About Renogy X

Renogy X is a solar and sustainable energy company that was founded in 2010. It specializes in solar panel planning and installation and also sells and installs inverters and batteries. It has proprietary software, and the equipment comes straight from the factory.

An added benefit is that the company’s panels use passivated emitter and rear contact (PERC) monocrystalline solar cells, which Renogy X states delivers 6% to 12% more energy than traditional panels.

With a direct-to-consumer model, Renogy X offers an all-in-one solar panel installation process. The company provides free quotes, and Renogy X solar panels include a 25-year warranty.

Renogy X solar panels and equipment

Renogy X manufactures its own panels and equipment. Once ordered, equipment comes directly from its warehouse. Products are backed by warranty and include:

  • Solar panels: Renogy X’s solar panels have an all-black design and use PERC monocrystalline solar cells that offer 6% to 12% more energy than conventional panels. Solar panels are backed by a 25-year power output warranty.
  • Inverters: Solar inverters take captured direct current (DC) energy from the solar panels and turn it into alternating current (AC) electricity to power your home or business. Renogy X’s inverters are low voltage and have an LCD screen to monitor system operation, energy production and power usage. The inverters also include an emergency power supply in case of a power outage.
  • Batteries: The company’s batteries are designed to maximize storage stability. Its battery systems have a capacity ranging between 10 to 60 kilowatt-hours (kWh) and are connected to Wi-Fi for remote monitoring.

I installed a Renogy X hybrid inverter 48V 8000 W. The electrical connections are non standard US but they can be made to work. Difficult. I had an existing Renogy inverter that went bad after 3 years. No support and no way to repair. So bought this one. The manual does not match some of the menu options. I probably have new firmware in my inverter. The manual sent is the same as available online. A0. Some options such as CAN id and RS485 id are not discussed. The inverter will not talk to my renogy 48V batteries. I have called an emailed renogyx support three times over 3 weeks and I have not received a response. I bought the inverter through Renogy but when I called their support I was told I have to call Renogy X. So I am not happy. I would rather have my money back.

I have had several issues with this company so far. I've purchased three self heating batteries for cold climates and the BT-2 module. First issue batteries took a long time to arrive, when I called they said it was because they were on backorder, but I was never advised and there was no tracking. Took a little over a month. Second when I called to get help installing the technical person started to give me instructions that even I knew was wrong. They were just going to have me start connecting to live wires while solar was producing. I asked for a call back as I found it was that person's first day.

A Rom was to call back in 10 min. It's been a month now and after 4 tries to get Rom at different days I looked at videos on youtube. It then started with throwing the main breaker and making sure the batteries were off. . . Seemed like safer advise from you tube than Renogy techs. Next the BT2 only showed 2 batteries not three. Tried customer service again, interesting similar dangerous advice unscrew live batteries on producing system while grid tied and flip the batteries around till you figure out what battery has the "bad com port". Asked if I could talk to supervisor as there has to be better ways to trouble shoot and really safety seems to be furthest thing from Renogy's customer service minds... "ROM will get back to you"...Does Rom really exist, I have my doubts. No call back. Ok I'll just monitor two of the three not the end of the world.

Lastly it got to like 20 degrees today. I got an alert that the batteries were too cold. I looked at the DC Home app. The batteries monitored stated that the heating status mode was off. There is no way to turn it on or off manually that I can read. It is to automatically turn off when cold. Renogy is closed on Saturday so went online to read and you tube again. I finally encased my battery rack in the garage with mylar blankets used a hair dryer for 3 hours and warmed the batteries enough for the lights on the batteries to go from red to green. I now have dog bed warmers under the battery rack that is encased in mylar blankets. It's supposed to get to negative 4 in a few days. If they don't work at 20 what will happen at negative 4? I've put in a ticket but do I really expect a call back.
