Daniel, West Babylon, NY: EmPower was on top of everything from the very beginning, reminding us about documents or information that we needed to get them, all the way through to the turning on of the system. They worked well on permits. They updated us about delays with the powerwalls that we had installed. They followed up when they didn't need to. I was impressed with the installation team. I went out there to ask them questions and they spent 10 minutes explaining things to me. I ended up going to get them lunch because they were so friendly and professional.
We've had no issues with roof leaks or damage to the panels. The production, which I can monitor on my phone, has been amazing since day one. The powerwalls that we have are also great. They seamlessly flip back and forth. If there's ever a power outage, we don't even know about it unless our powerwall alerts us that they turned on. We have around $15 a month electric bill now, which is the base charge that our electric company has to charge. Beyond that, we paid nothing for electric and we have an electric vehicle and most of our heat and AC is handled through ductless systems, which are also electric. It has been amazing with EmPower. I love them. They are pricier than I would have paid going with another company, but the Maxeon panels that they installed from SunPower are some of the best in the industry.
Alicia & Mike, Farmingdale, NY: The installation was a quick process. They were very neat and they did everything. They had the system charged up and running and signed off on by the town with no problem. The system generated a lot of electricity. It's only been installed for just about a year now and we have a credit of 5,000 kilowatts, which is great. But one of the things that they didn't divulge to us is how often it has to be cleaned. We still don't know. The panels get dirty especially on the roof. Also, we were supposed to get a certain amount of money when I filed my taxes but they didn't say that in order for us to get that money back, we have to have owed so I didn't get the full amount. They didn't say that the tax credit does not come automatically. It's based on how much you make. Also, I don't have the dependents to get back that kind of money.
One of the things that sold us was for example, our system cost 65,000, they said that we would get approximately 20,000 something towards the credit to pay for it for the loan, which is not with EmPower Solar. It's with the finance company. Now, the payment will be higher than what it was. Our payment per month might be like 240 now and it was supposed to go down to like 143 or something to that effect with a $22,000 credit, which we obviously were not going to get to help us with the solar. That was a little unclear and not defined. You don't find all that stuff out until you see a tax person to explain to you. Other than that, we have recommended them.
