Terrible company. When you need to withdraw they limit how much you can take. If you request to transfer your shares they take 3+ weeks and have no communication if it fails. It's cost me over $5K. NEVER AGAIN. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY.

This has been one of the worst experiences I've had when trying to close and cancel an account. The account was requested to be closed several weeks ago, then it took at least 2 weeks for the company to close out everything in order to refund the money I had deposited. And now I'm having to research and send in documentation that was sent by the company regarding my cancelation (on 12/29/24) and the refund to my bank account that was stated to take 3-5 business days and if there was any sort of issue with said refund, I have never been notified. Just a horrible experience all around. Will not use again and definitely will not recommend either.

I joined Stash when they first came on the scene. Attempted to close both accounts in 2019. One was closed then, one had less than $1 in it (how, I don't know since I transferred all the money out at the time I closed them). It was subsequently closed in 2020 according to Stash. Flash forward to 2024, I started getting emails that a subscription payment couldn't be made. I ignored them since they weren't able to process a payment. Had a $3 payment go through. Emailed them about the matter via a reply to the email they sent me. They replied, "We'd love to provide more personalized support today, however, the email address you wrote in on is not associated with your Stash account."

Went back and forth with them via several emails trying to prove that the email address I was using was the one associated with my account. I ultimately called them and demanded my account be closed and the credit card associated with my account be deleted from their records. The day that I called, they charged me another $3-which I didn't know at the time of my call. They sent a follow up email that they are supposedly sending me a refund for the balance in my account. I just emailed them demanding a refund of the $6 in subscription fees plus the balance in my account. This is not high stakes here folks, it is just utterly ridiculous that they charged me a subscription fee twice on an account that was closed almost 5 years ago. Thinking of joining Stash? Save yourself the hassle and just don't.

I believe this group to be legitimate however, they are quite scammy. I am attempting to close the account since I switched to e Trade but unfortunately I cannot. If you forget your pw they utilize the two factor authentication widget. Unfortunately the account is tied to my old number which is no longer in service. I have tried to reach out to customer service but to no avail. There’s neither number nor email provided in case you need to reach someone. I am charged a fee of 3$ each month because I cannot close the account. As decent as the app actually is I find this hiccup to be extremely annoying.

I have had an account with Stash since 2016. I never had a problem with the account and used the investments, retirement and banking account. It wasn't until the last month that I had an issue and it is a doozy. I am in disability and received back pay into my banking account from the state disability office. This increased my banking account with them from $2500 to $10000. During my wait to receive this backpay I had to sell my car.

Once the backpay was in my account I reached out to Stash asking how I can withdraw $5000 of my money as I needed to purchase a new car. Immediately my account was locked. This has gone on where they have requesting document after document to verify me as the owner and bank statements for my linked account, first pictures then pdfs. It still is locked and I keep getting the runaround, another 48 hours is all I hear every time I call. I even talked to "supervisor" who escalated the account complaint on several occasions. I am still dealing with this and have no car. I opened a different account at a brick and mortar bank for all future disability deposits. In the meantime I keep trying. I plan to close the account as soon as this is taken care of. I feel like they are holding my money hostage at this point without any clear explanation since I have done everything they asked.

I wanted to transfer my money out and it is painful. The staff is super nice. But their SOP’s and operational training needs improvement. I was asked to submit a wire transfer for requests exceeding 6k as that’s their limit for online transfers. Wire transfer form had to be motorized and sent to them. Nowhere in their site it says you can’t wire transfer to a beneficiary other than yourself or you have to transfer only to your own personal checking account. I am redoing my form and getting re-notarized. It’s been painful and none of the staff know how to get me to an executive to even submit a grievance.

Their supervisors do nothing to right wrongs and are quite arrogant. When asked for proof my withdraw was started when requested they were unable to provide the info.

I am on the phone with them AGAIN right now trying to get them to protect their customer (ME)! They keep saying "no error" occurred. THIS IS NOT AN ERROR - IT IS FRAUD! Don't trust this business! I've been trying for over 2 months to close a Roth IRA that they tricked me into opening even though I was not qualified to have one. I filled out the required excess distribution form and they sat on it for a month before kicking it back and telling me it was filled out wrong (even though I pestered several times per week during that month). On the rare occasion that they responded to my email; they would reply back asking for information that I'd already provided them.

I finally got frustrated and tried to transfer my accounts to their competitor and they BLOCKED IT. I've attached the email showing WHY they blocked it. Good luck figuring out what the problem was - they were intentionally vague and none of these applied. So they have my money, they will not disperse my funds and they are continuing to charge me $9.00 per month because I have an active account. I cannot disconnect my payment method to stop them from charging me since they have my money. If you value your money and your time, avoid these guys. It should not take months to disperse my excess contributions in my Roth IRA.

I signed up for Stash after seeing an ad on Facebook. They were advertising, "Get $50 to invest after making your first $5 deposit." I decided to sign-up and deposit $5 to give it ago. Went through the sign-up process, linked my bank account, and deposited $5. Invested the $5 to their "Smart Portfolio" since I'm not familiar with investing. A few days later I sent an email to their support team inquiring about the $50 and was told it would take 2-4 business days and that it was confirmed. I waited 4 business days and logged into my account to see the $5 I deposited was missing from the "Smart Portfolio". I sent an email asking about the $50 sign-up bonus and to inquire about the missing $5.

The reply I got back was, "Unfortunately the transfer of $5 that you initiated to receive the Quick Start promo never actually made it successfully into your invest accounts. Because the terms state you need to complete a transfer of $5 into your account and you did not our system retrieved the promotional funds back. You do however have until 4/30/2024 to deposit $5 successfully and if you do you can contact us again and we can apply a new Quick Start promotion with the same terms but for a $5 & $5 value this time."

I contacted their support number who put me on hold for 5 minutes after listening who then returned to tell me the same thing. I asked how, if it never made it there, I was able to invest with it. She told me it's just their system and that it happens and that I was no longer eligible for the bonus, which is fine, because I instructed her to close the account.

I'm glad I did not deposit more than $5 and even more happy that I decided to wait to turn on "Auto-Invest". I'm down $5 to company who has no idea where it went. Avoid this company. After reading other comments on that ad on Facebook, I'm not the only one who has had issues with this promotion. They bait you into depositing and signing up for the app, which has a monthly subscription fee by the way, and make it to where you can't take advantage of a promotion. Lesson learned. Scam company.

Because the fraudulent activity happened two years ago, Stash was unwilling to reimburse the money that was stolen from me. I thought my money was safe with them but it turns out I was wrong. I repeated the process with the new form. Two weeks later, nothing... I called Stash Support and their response was to send an email requesting "additional information" with a series of questions. He comes back and says they can only refund me for THIS year which is 2 months' worth of Stash payments. I told him this was unacceptable & I wanted to speak to a Manager. "John" continued to tell me over and over again that they can only give me 2 refunds. I continued to ask for a manager which he NEVER put on the phone. By this point, I'm pissed. STASH is a mobile investing app like any other (Acorns, Robinhood, etc.) where you have to subscribe to a monthly plan in order to use their services towards a personal/IRA/custodial account. The features they advertise are great based on what plan you subscribe to, you can even have your investments set up automatically from your banking into a personal or retirement.

However, I’ve had great too many problems with this app. Come Dec 2022, my partner and I hit a financial bump in the road that caused us to cancel and budget down our expenses. STASH being one of the expenses that would need to be stopped. While waiting for the account to be closed, I would “pause” the automatic investments only for them to randomly be turned on by themselves again without my consent or knowledge until money would be taken out as we’d checking our online banking with our personal bank account.

Upon receiving notification of their team being in the process of closing my account for good, I attempted to transfer funds from the IRA in STASH to my personal banking, of around $30, only for them to get back and say they’ve initiated it but as our personal banking reflects they did not deposit my money but instead took our last $30 from our checkings and an additional $10 for overdraft fees causing our account to be completely drained.

I’ve been on hold for 45 minutes with their customer service line which is ridiculous and all of this should not be this complicated. This app is suppose to make your personal financing experience easier but when you cannot afford monthly subscriptions and investments, attempting to cancel and get your $ returned to you is a nightmare.

Would not recommend just because of my personal inconveniences but if you can personally afford their features, I see the benefit that it may have in the long-run just as is expected with any investing app. I am so upset and now we are worried about how we will support ourselves until we can figure out how to make more $ in the meantime for necessary everyday expenses. STASH, you deserve 1 star from my personal experience in closing/canceling with your app, and the wait times to get any support from your customer service teams are ridiculous. I expect for all my emails to be answered ASAP and for my money to be rightfully returned to me. So upset.
