They pulled the bait and switch on me. Signed up for a "ONE TIME" fee, yet 10 months later I was getting billed $25/month. Yes... I should have caught it sooner. I did not expect a full refund, but I figured if I explained that since the first time I used it I had NEVER logged in again, they would work with me. Nope. I waited on hold for TWO HOURS!!! Once I got a real person, they literally did nothing for me. Just kept saying, "We're very sorry sir" and "We understand your frustration." Yet nothing changed. They waived one month. I got screwed over by their bait and switch tactics.

This company has to have the poorest customer service I've witnessed in all my years of interfacing with various companies via memberships, products etc. After the massive data breach on their part, I foolishly opted for their $1.00 scan of the web which included the 'dark web'. I supplied them with my Discover Card info etc.; I.E, a huge mistake. Due to the fact I didn't call to terminate my association with them via their initial scan they started billing me $19.95 per month. I've tried time and again to get through with an average wait time of one hour or more. This is ridiculous.
I called a number not provided by my account info that I acquired via researching complaints against this company. I finally reached an operator at 714 830 7000 who in turn transferred me to the same line that has a one hour queue. Prior to her doing so I laid out my complaint concerning customer service and I then realized all she did was punch my T.S. card. I've called Discover and stopped payment to them via the dispute process explaining I cannot get resolution via their contact numbers. No problem on the part of Discover. I've still tried to do the 'right thing' by making contact, but it's not going to happen.
Why oh why did I trust a company that lost millions of records due to a hack and decide to enlist their service is beyond me? I have their California address so I'll write a snail mail letter. I'm just a responsible person and will complete my part to terminate my membership. Based on my experience this company is engaged in consumer fraud even though they are in the business of tracking consumer credit for determining our FICO score/s, preventing fraud etc. How crazy is that?! Do NOT get involved with Experian Credit Services unless you want a major headache.

Experian keeps charging me for a membership I canceled three months ago. This makes the second time they have billed me 21.95 on my credit card. I called them and canceled, and now three months later they are billing me again. I have already been on the phone with them 53 minutes and still holding. Someone out there needs to do something with this fraudulent company.

I went into the website to dispute a mistake made on my credit report. After jumping through many hoops to create this account and then was not able to complete. I had to call the 800 number. And that’s where the fun really began. I was transferred to 4 different departments having to give all my data 4 different times. On the last person I spoke to talked so fast asking numerous questions I couldn’t understand what she was asking. So we got cut off before I could tell her to slow down. Then the 100 emails began one right after another telling me all the disputes. And I had only one dispute. They push the identity theft program like crazy. Especially after the so called data breach. I believe that the data breach they reported was just a way to sell more identity theft programs. This is wrong by any standards. If there was a lower star count for reviews I would give a neg 3.

I clicked to reviews of this company as I sit here and wait (over 45 minutes) for customer service to cancel an account I wasn't aware I had. As I read the reviews I see that I am not the only one with this problem. I too signed up for the one time $1.00 review and cancelled in the required 7 day free trial. Well I guess they didn't get the cancellation (and I haven't been checking closely), but unlike all the other customers that are being ripped off and paying $21 to $23 per month, I have been paying $29.95. This has been going on since April and I need to get it cancelled. But by the looks of it, they don't cancel. What a terrible company.
I have to check closer in the future and now I have to call the bank to see what they can do for me on this. There is still no customer service person on the phone and I don't have time for this bs. Good luck to me and to all of you too. Don't do business with these people. Oh, by the way, they now advertise they will do it for free (HAHAHAHAHA). Every month (HAHAHAHA). Go through Credit Karma.

Worst consumer care service I've ever seen. I'm trying to cancel my account, and it is impossible. They don't allow cancellation online, only by phone. They don't answer a call. I'm writing now while on hold on the phone for 25 minutes. I'm sick of this company, they don't provide any information worth the monthly payment. The credit card or bank company can provide the same data for free. Worst experience I've ever had with service in US. Do not recommend for a enemy.

DO NOT sign up for anything with this sleazy, dishonest, joke of a company. They are in the business of scamming you out of your money, NOT protecting you from anyone or thing. They will take your info and charge you for services you don't even want and then make it impossible to cancel your "account" that you never even signed up for. Any lawyers out there that want to start a class action lawsuit against their lying **? Based on the complaints here, you'd have plenty of plaintiffs!

I also submitted my information to obtain my FICO credit score. $1.00 was charged to my account. Now I see recurring payments of $23.72 to my card. I never consented to this, however apparently there is a fine print clause unknowing consumers are missing. I attempted several times to call the number Experian provided to cancel this "subscription," only to remain on hold for hours. No estimated time given. I've now simply cancelled my card and ordered a new one. Hopefully they can't continue to charge me. Buyers beware! Use Credit Karma instead!

I’m actually typing this while I’ve been on hold with Experian for exactly 1 hr and 2 mins with no human contact stating “we’re sorry for the delay the next available agent will be with you shortly”... I wanted to know where my dispute with Diversified Collections on behalf of AT&T. I canceled AT&T UVerse within a matter of a week and go back to our DirecTV (keeping in mind this was during the merging of the two companies). AT&T sent me a $700 plus bill for that 2 weeks and I said absolutely not! We were not happy with UVerse. And even though I sent AT&T all of their equipment back and took pictures on my phone of each piece, they’re still saying they never received it! Diversified had to be removed from my public records for several years before I even knew it and couldn’t even say who or what they were collecting for!?
What’s my main complaint is the reporting systems themselves and bottom feeders such as Diversified buying up debt. They can’t even tell the consumer who what when and they’re just slapping suits against we the little people who can’t fight for themselves and doesn’t even know what they’re collecting for! I’m working so hard to fix my credit and instead am getting worse and worse down go my credit points. Unfair! And now Equifax wants you to “pay them” to keep a better watch on our credit for a mere $19.99 a month and so is Experian!? That’s their job to monitor your credit and now want to get paid more for doing their job?! I’m sorry but I’m so confused.

I signed up for a $1.00 trail of credit monitoring from Experian for 7 days. If you cancel within the 7 days there are supposed to be no further charges. I signed up on 10/16/17 and cancelled 10/19/17. Experian charged my credit card $23.32 on 10/28/17. I have filed through my bank for credit as I do have my cancellation confirmation number. Either their customer service is horrible, their systems are really antiquated and don't work or they are completely dishonest. Mistakes can happen with any company I understand, however I don't believe that is the case with the number of complaints for the exact same problem I see here. We let these people monitor our credit? Scary!

Received an email from what I thought to be Experian. Offering me to check my credit rating to make sure of no fraudulent activity. Suggested I check my score which I did for $1. Did not realize the $1 fee signed me up for monthly credit monitoring. Said I had "7" days FREE trial membership. As soon as I realized I was signed up for monthly fees, I called the number of 855-962-6943 to cancel. Got a recording stating wait time would be 1 hour, 45 minutes. While I left that phone on hold, I called another number I found of 866-617-1894 (supposedly c/s) they would only tell me that I had to call the 1st number to cancel or go directly to their website of support@e.usa.experian.com (which was not legitimate). On hold twice for over an hour each and finally had to hang up each time because I couldn't wait anymore. Tried to do a stop payment on my bank account so they couldn't charge it but couldn't because Experian puts it through differently each month so it doesn't show the same charge. Sometime it is charged as a one time, some as a monthly so due to inconsistencies you can't put a stop payment. This is horrible business practice and slimy. I will NEVER use their services again. I understand "things" with technology happen. Was so excited that Experian was allowing us to find out if we were compromised from the information breach. Went to experian.com/scan. Got my email 24 hours later which said nothing. Except that if I want a true full scan of my info to see if it is out there in the web (I thought that was why I was on the site in the first place) somewhere that I could get 30-day free trial to see if there was an issue. This is where I get irritated. Why does Experian need my credit card info for a FREE trial? Why should I have to subject myself to remember in 30 days to call you and tell you I do not want you to take $19.99 out of my account? Is it not these frivolous charges that I am trying to avoid in the first place.
Personally, I believe the whole thing is a scam. Experian, drops the ball with our info. Seem like a great marketing scheme to get more revenue from us. Very disappointed that a company this large is not forced to step up to the plate and make right with the individuals whose information got compromised. Profiting on their mistakes is extremely unjust!! However, if intentional how long till the other 2 agencies jump on board with this nonsense?

Your credit card gets charged regardless of whether you cancel or not is my experience. I send a letter to cancel, and called. I was on hold for 1 hour and 38 minutes before getting a representative who said she was canceling the membership. Two days later I have a charge on my card. Also, they provide no online way to lift a freeze long enough for a creditor to review your credit. And no one can wait that long on the phone to try to get them to lift it. I had to jump through so many hoops to get a credit check for a recent purchase. None of them helped by Experian. I encourage you to stay as far away from this organization as you can get.

Due to the breach at Equifax I wanted to freeze my credit report. However Experian is the ONLY one that doesn't accept an online submission. In fact they make you jump through hoops so they can take your money. This is absolutely ridiculous! First I tried online, During that process I provided all information that was requested. Apparently it wasn't enough. Then I was redirected to "upload" documents and that process did NOT ask for the same one that were ultimately required in a letter that was sent me. They are the ONLY one out of the three that makes it nearly impossible. The others allowed me to accomplish the freeze online without any stupidity. Why can't they get with the program and provide a BETTER method? I think that they want to allow people to have the credit compromised or it's means for force you into paying a ridiculous monthly fee for "protection".

I signed up for trial. Said would be able to get a 3 bureau credit score/report. That's untrue. Was only able to get the Experian report. Their customer service is also horrible and have waited 3 hours trying to reach a representative at least 5 times. Do not do business with them. They will continue charging your credit card. I suggest just paying for your FICO score from each bureau and getting your 1 free credit report from them once a year. I will never order any of their services ever again.
I had the CreditWorks service which include 3 bureau credit monitoring, ability freeze Experian credit report, able to get FICO score and report from other 2 bureaus free once a year. Tried to get the 2 reports and scores from other 2 bureaus and their site wouldn't allow me. So I called Experian multiple times and they kept saying you need to contact the other bureaus as the problem is on their end. I did contact the other bureaus and they couldn't do anything about it. I called Experian 4 other times to tell them the other bureaus couldn't do anything about this problem and they kept saying contact them. I told them contacted them already. Like I said it’s a ring around the rosy contacting the other bureaus. I canceled my subscription and that’s why I will never do any credit bureau services as they all are the same.

If could give ZERO stars on this review I would have! Due to the Equifax breach it has been advised by many experts to freeze one's credit with the three major credit bureaus. It has been a couple days now and I can't submit the freeze online with Experian. I've tried several times and it keeps informing me that they were not able to process my request. I then tried to search for a contact number on the website so I can speak to an agent and after searching high and low no contact number.
I finally Googled them and called a number where the agent told me they didn't handle freezes. She proceeded to give me another contact number which I tried a couple of times. Both times more than an hour on hold only to lead me to frustration and hanging up. I can't believe this a major credit bureau?? Very unprofessional and it seems they don't want to be called upon. They informed me that when I purchased a credit report for $4.99 some 9 months ago, I was automatically signed up for a monthly membership, which increased to $19.95 going forward. I received no notification of this recurring charge over that time period, so I had no idea it was happening until I reviewed my credit card statements line-by-line in the wake of the Equifax breach. What's more, my account was upgraded to premium in August, increasing the charge to $24.99. I never once accessed this account during this time period, and I certainly did not upgrade to premium. However, the representative informed me the account was being accessed several times per month. As I am not accessing it, clearly there is fraudulent activity, to which Experian was not only completely unsympathetic, but shockingly unconcerned.
I understand there's a chance I was tricked into the original monthly charge, but I would have at least expected them to work with me on the premium upgrade in August (for which I was also double-charged). Instead, I received some dismissed boiler-plate language about terms of service and was told to speak to my financial institution. A horrible experience from start to finish. I have one installment loan and two credit cards. I always pay off my credit card balances every month. Both services use Experian to calculate scores for me and other customers. My rating went down even though I made two extra principal payments on my installment loan and paid off both of my credit cards. Now here's the interesting thing: The reasons given for why my score went down (which are very nebulous, by the way) differ completely on the two cards. By the way, the Experian rating from my bank was substantially lower than the one these credit cards are reporting to me. The credit rating industry is a joke, and it's a crime that consumers are unable to exempt themselves from the system.

When I finally got my card (it took much longer than usual) I called them to reinstate my account. Instead of charging my account moving forward, they immediately charged my account for the last 2 months, and DIDN'T TELL ME THIS until after I gave them my payment information. They refused to refund my money and were incredibly rude. Am now disputing charges with my bank. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY.

I signed up on June 10th and cancelled on July 8th, before the 30 days was up. I have copies of the emails from them with the dates on the emails. The cancellation letter states that I can still use the free basic services. Of course, I have viewed my credit since then because they say you can do that for free, in the cancellation letter. There has been nothing that popped up while I was on their site informing me that they would charge me for anything I have done or allowing me to authorize any charges.

I signed for Experian to keep track of my credit score and to see if I can do anything to improve it ($9.97 per month). Turned out to be a vastly inaccurate and misleading score. First of all, if you want to get your credit score from the three agencies they will charge you extra $39 per report. Secondly, I kept receiving that my score is in very good/exceptional category. However, once I applied to a loan, they did a credit check and turned out that my Experian score was over 100 points off. Called the customer service, they gave me the whole speech that scores can be calculated differently, and algorithms and such. Personally, I do not care, I signed for the service expecting to get a good estimate of my score, after all Experian is one of the scores on the credit report. If I cannot get a good estimate then I do not see the point of having this service.

Even when I try to cancel the charge (I've tried for over a year) they will not stop charging my card. I've changed card numbers, twice, and received a different account number but the charges keep coming. I try to call, each month, and the outcome is never satisfactory... to cancel the monthly charge. My credit card company says Experian needs to stop charges but they have every excuse, including long waits and call disconnects, that keep the charges coming. It's a huge time waster and very upsetting to see the month after month charges and to know I will have to take more time trying to get it taken off.
I've contacted ** and filed a complaint with a government agency. Experian has been deceptive, greedy and dishonest in many regards. They seem to think they are above ethical practices. Please don't end up like me and so many others. Don't buy anything from Experian. You can get a free credit report... working through other sources. Investigate the deception and crimes, even the lawsuits, charged against these credit reporting agencies. They can do anything they want and get away with it. After I paid the $1 then I never got an email from freecreditreport.com. Instead I began getting emails from Experian but I thought they were spam because I never went to the Experian site and never signed up for newsletters from Experian. I never used the service, I was never sent an email welcoming me to a monthly charge service, there was no warning that I would be charged at all. I was signed up from January until June being charged $21.95 each month. My husband and I moved across country and missed this charge for whatever reason.
When I called they would only refund me "as a courtesy" one month of $21.95. I waited more than 30 minutes to speak with a supervisor and she argued with me saying that I paid the $1 and should have seen that I was enrolling in a monthly program. Honestly I thought that it was an "option" not something automatic but would never have gone through with the $1 if I had known. I did not want the monthly program, I did not request the monthly program, and I never used the program that they offered.
They said that it's not their problem that I never used the membership... The problem is that I never knew I had a program to use because I never requested, wanted, or signed up for the membership... So I never knew I had a membership to use. The "supervisor" decided to continue to argue with me. It was the worst customer service that I have ever experienced. This business model is highly unethical and the worst customer service I have ever dealt with. This company is basically stealing people's money by signing them up for something they never wanted or asked for.
They only refunded me $21.95 and would not budge on the rest of the money. I tried calling again but they would not budge. The people who take the calls are very well trained and have no real heart. They basically told me that it was all my fault. This company chooses to not be transparent intentionally because if they had just sent me an email saying that I was not going to be billed monthly I would have called to cancel... But that is the way they make all of their money. I guess I've been gotten by a truly rotten company.

I am honestly surprised that Experian's tactics are legal. Coming from a background of owning a web app & website development company, I was still duped by Experian's sinister registration process of conning their users (victims) into a subscription that they are unaware of -- then telling those 'customers' it was their own fault, and then refusing to offer refunds. I actually think that their entire business model is run on this model, intentionally conning people. I called Wells Fargo Fraud detection and they mentioned that the complaint was so common, they had a customer service number for Experian ON FILE.
Think about that for a moment. I was so disturbed by this, I wrote an article about it. I encourage everyone to take some form of action -- dispute your charges with your bank/card, file a complaint with the BBB, and take to social media against this injustice. This is not simple miscommunication within an organization. I believe this to be intentional -- all the way up to the highest ranks within the company.

Unknowingly I signed up for the Experian Consumer Services, Experian Creditworks that costs $21.95 monthly. Just like previous reviews, I feel tricked by using the Experian website. My goal was to see my credit score one time and in order to do that I paid the $1 to sign up for the free trial. No word ever from them again that they were charging my card $21.95. Also, I was charged $39.95 after apparently clicking that I wanted to see my FICO score. Throughout this whole process I was not notified in advance of my card being charged and only realized it when I went to pay my credit card bill. I called customer service to cancel the membership and asked for a refund. The woman refused and showed very little initiative to help the situation, giving me the feeling that this is a rather common occurrence.
I will NEVER use Experian again and as a word of advice, if you do, read every single word of the fine print because who knows what they will charge your card for without asking permission. I feel shocked that this company is as successful as it is when it does these types of arrangements. To me, it is very deceptive and I hope in the future they learn to be much more upfront and clear with what they are charging you with. I'm baffled that I didn't receive any mail or emails warning me in advance that these charges were going to occur... I'm just glad I keep up to date with credit card transactions or it could've been a LOT worse. What's so good about this site to charge $21.95 and then $39.95 anyway??? Waste of time and money.

I talked to a Experian rep and then was on hold for 25 minutes to talk to a manager and both refused to refund my money. I just said I didn't want the service and I had no intention of signing up for it.
It was weird the whole time. They asked me questions like "Do you remember giving us a CC? Do you remember authorizing us to charge your card a $1." It was like they didn't know what their own signup process was. It felt like they were trying to find the best way to trick you into signing up for their service. It is from a credit agency too... The whole conversation just didn't feel very good when it's coming from someone who is trying to help prevent fraud. I ended up just sucking it up and saying cancel me, and eating the $21.95. I have experienced the ongoing fraud from Experian, as they are using the terms and conditions of an online transaction, such as the purchase of a credit report, to add and hide a very different transaction, such as a monthly subscription plan at $21.95. Without my clear consent, they collected payments for 3 months out of my bank account, furthermore without receipt of the transaction or email to communicate the cost and terms of the product they claim I purchased by agreeing to the terms of a different transaction. They first refused to refund any of the monthly payments. But when I told them that I contacted a lawyer to see if there is a case for class action, they refunded everything by the same day. Today, we are 1,216 consumers who posted about this ongoing fraud. There is a case for class action.

I needed to check my credit score and Experian had a $1 offer. I signed up for that and I thought I was done with Experian at that point. Then a week later I see a $20.95 on my credit card from Experian. I started searching around and realized that somehow they signed me up for a monthly membership subscription that I did NOT know about and could care less for. They must have had that in super tiny print somewhere when I paid for that $1 credit report. I was really angry by how sneaky they were!!!
Luckily, when I called the next morning they answered right away (NO waiting time) and they agreed to refund the money instantly and to close my account. It was very easy. So they basically lure people in with this $1 offer and then sign people up for this BS monthly subscription "membership" without them noticing. Nasty dirty tricksters!!! They're basically trying their luck as I'm sure that many people would get fooled by this for years with charges on their cards. Unfortunately, this kind of deception is entirely legal. :(

I just realized that I had three charges on my credit card from Experian for a "membership" to some credit monitoring service. Apparently, back in October/November when I was checking my credit report and purchased my FICO score online from Experian for $4.97 I didn't realize that somewhere hidden in the fine print, I was also purchasing a monthly service/membership. I was never alerted to the fact that I was actually making a membership purchase, nor that I was purchasing anything other than the FICO score for the $4.97. I called the customer service and they only offered to refund one of the three charges and I demanded that my membership be canceled. I think that the consumer protection agencies in this country should penalize these companies and especially when it is something so delicate as my credit score, they should not be trying to make money off of this.
There should be much more regulation of these kinds of sneaky and misleading practices. I would not trust Experian with my credit score or my money. Who knows who else is paying them to manipulate all of our scores one way or the other as they see fit for profit. I hope the government starts to see that consumers need to come first and these companies should not be reaping a profit. In fact, this is not a for-profit service they should be doing, the government should take this on so that there are no hidden interests involved. Do not buy the credit tracking service from Experian and if you need to know your FICO score, know that they will try to cheat you with this tactic.

Bottom line: I didn't have a membership - or did I approved this membership. Monthly fees of 24.99 hit my account every month. I called today to speak to a Escalation team, Karabel but he would only give me one month 24.99 refund and was told they would stop the billing the monthly membership. Although he stated it was in the fine print of the $1.00 sign up of only 7 days. And I needed cancel it.
They take advantage of this because of busy consumers who don't have time to monitor every small charges that hit their statements. They might as well be hackers that hit millions of people to steal your money for something that is not being used or you approved. I wonder how many Experian members -- actually agreed to the membership or even use it? Probably thousands - I would imagine. Perhaps they need a quota, similar to banks by opening fake accounts. The information on how to cancel your membership is quite well camouflaged, requiring sharp eyes and a bit of determination. And then the fun begins...
I sent an email using the email address provided on the website, included my name and, membership number, with clear instructions to cancel my membership. All within five days of joining this nefarious scheme. And then I checked my credit card account to find $21.95 had been charged by Experian. When they call and hear my minimum balance and fact I've never been bankrupt. They say... I don't have a problem. 3. This false tilted reporting stereotypes me which I can not get out from under. As a result I pay a high rate on interest on my car loan... double of anyone else. This does increase the profits of the banks as I am blacklisted for no reason. 18 yrs ago I paid off my mortgage 12 years early. I have no other debt. I am blackmailed into paying high rates for no reason.
I had signed up and paid full price for my credit report. Not knowing they would charge me forevermore. My bank has only been able to recoup $39.00 of 196.00 taken falsely. Medical City did not reply to my written complaint logged and sent the unpaid bill directly to Experian credit agency. I went online to get my free credit report from Experian to verify the reason my credit rating had been lowered and did not read the small print, in that I had to decline in 7 days an annual agreement to continue this service.
When it hit my credit card I called and they stopped the service, tried to sell me other less expensive products and refused to refund the initial month prorated charge. Based on what I see they do this to a lot of folks. I have had two medical bills in the last 15 years that are the only bills I have not paid timely --- the other was for $150. Both of these bills have/will have a 7 year effect on my credit rating. There is no review of whether the amount being sent to the credit agency is correct and no thought given to the materiality of the charge versus the credit worthiness of the individual. I tested out Experian's free credit report (well $1 is not exactly free). I was then billed monthly for $24.50 until I just discovered this today on Nov 22. I'm out over $180. In discussing this with their customer service I was given every "no" answer including wanting a human being to file a complaint with. It's such a shady practice to opt people into something they have no idea they are getting. Worst thing is I do business with this company. I guess I will have to switch vendors in the future.

I went to Experian's website to order my free credit report. It prompted me to get my FICO score for an extra $1. I went ahead and did that and did not see their fine print about automatic membership enrollment with a $21.95 fee. As soon as I noticed I was being charged for that, I contacted Experian customer service and they refused to refund me. Super shady business practices to enroll people in this plan on the sly and refuse to refund them even though they haven't used ANY of the services.

Why is it that Experian is infamous for being the lowest credit bureau out of the other two? We need to make this an issue. We have to use every single social media outlet to blow this up. I am writing and visiting our local and DC congressmen to get the ball rolling. It's unfair that I have worked very hard to get my credit really good. But Experian is the lowest by a lot. They do not update my payment history at all. They are out to keep all of us hard working people down. They strike deals with Lenders to go with Experian so they get an incentive to mark us low. In return the lenders are able to "better negotiate" a higher interest rate with is potential clients and what do we say from there? It's legalized corruption.
I work so hard to stay on top of all that I do. And it's not fair that I am being penalized for a company's greedy behavior and politics. Just so they can profit. We have to stand up and fight this credit issues. There should be only one score and that's it. Experian continues to affect my progression in my life in regards to obtaining a good loan. It's aggravating and this will change. But whoever is reading this please stand up together and fight this corruption. Enough is enough.

I was charged 21.95$ though they mentioned free credit score check. Once you sign up you click on the membership terms and conditions as well. I cancelled my account knowing this on 8th day. They didn't refund the cash stating trial period is within 7 days. These people are so cunning. Never do business with these vultures. No emails come with the receipt of charges incurred. Only it reflects in the credit card.

Reviews need to be moderated better. It's obvious, at least to me, that the same two or three people are writing all of the one-star reviews. I've signed up for Experian twice, and I haven't had any problem canceling within the 7 day trial period and not getting billed again.

I called in to cancel my membership and spoke with a representative at Experian. I wrote the confirmation number down with a date the membership was to be discontinued. I did not follow up to ensure the membership was canceled, and that was my fault. However, I called in 4 months later after realizing they were still charging my credit card, and the rep said there was no record of the cancellation and would not accept my confirmation number. So I was overcharged $100. And the most ridiculous part is, she ask that I write the new confirmation number down! Now I have to monitor my credit card to be sure they do not continue to charge me. I will not be paying for a membership with Experian ever again. I encourage every to just use the free services out there. Equifax and Transunion scores are provided for free through Credit Karma and Credit Sesame. Experian is the only one who does not provide a free score.

I just realized that my subscription to Experian is subsidizing a company that, in effect, is the ONLY reason my credit rating has declined in the past year. Their "robot" is incapable of considering any factors outside the boundaries of their super rigid formula that tosses people like me with a very longstanding excellent credit history with folks who are reckless with credit. Here are the problems that seem to have had with me: INQUIRIES. I just bought a house and, as a wise consumer, I shopped for a mortgage. I considered six lenders. Every time one of them checked my credit, Experian lowered my credit rating by six points. So, I list 24 total points just by applying for mortgages. Their very broad description of "too many inquiries" actually discourages the very sound practice of seeking the best possible mortgage package.
At one point, one credit bureau showed a FICO score of 814 for me. Experian moved me down to 780 while I looked for a mortgage. So, instead of a 3.44 interest rate, which my eventual lender offered, I ended up paying 3.66 per cent, solely on the basis of Experian's report. They moved me from an excellent rating to very good and it's costing me money for 30 years!
RETAIL ACCOUNTS - According to Experian, I have too many. Here's what really happened. I asked my bank to change the type of VISA card they issued to me. The old one was carrying one of those interest free balance transfer balances for 18 months. So, I didn't close it. I left money in my investment account, which earned 12% last year. Simple math. I made money by doing this. I had the funds to pay it off but decided to continue to earn very attractive dividends by leaving it where they were. But the "robot" read this differently. Another credit card! An unpaid balance! Ding this guy! Then US Air merged with American Airlines. My previous card was converted to an American Express Advantage Master Card. Oh boy! Another inquiry! Ding this guy!
Then I moved a long distance to my new house. The mover would take a certified check or money order or charge to move to a credit card. Since we didn't know the final charges at pickup time, I used a credit card. Oh boy! He just used a greater percentage of his available credit! Ding this guy! During this process, I was awaiting two major financial settlements, both of which were in my favor. My plan was to pay off all of my credit card balances when the funds were received. Well, I received both in the past 10 days. So, I want to pay off what I owe (which is only 6% of my total available credit) and close a few accounts. But if I do, Experian will be waiting to ding me again for closing accounts and reducing available credit. Bear in mind. No late payments for more than 20 years! Practically no debt! Yet I continue to pay Experian a monthly fee to feed their robot, which in my view, is my only credit problem at the moment.
I have given up trying to talk to a human being there. Their dead-end phone system always manages to put my call through, referring me to their useless website. I am contacting my congressman this week. It's time that Experian be held accountable for the damage they are doing to responsible consumer such as myself. Ironically, I spend a portion of my career conducting financial literacy programs for 3 million school children. If they do what we taught them, they will be responsible consumers and victims of organizations such as Experian. This robot needs a brain and a set of ears!

I only used my card on their site to get my FICA SCORE FOR 1 DOLLAR. TWO DAY LATER I GET AN ALERT OF FRAUD FROM MY BANK. Someone had got my card number and attempted to purchase a gym membership in P.A. I don't know anyone, purchased anything, visited, lived in that state or area. I've almost only lived in California once I moved to Oregon. Now 2 different states have caused me to close my checking account cut up my card. So not only do they not protect your information, they report incorrect items on things like I cancelled a service and the company charged me 4 or more months. When it wasn't suppose to be under 200. It's almost 500. They share your information with companies that pull your credit. Do hard inquiries. I've got debt on my credit I don't know why they are there.

The supposedly canceled but NOT SO MUCH because I was charged 29.95. I called to have it taken care and was reassured I'd have my refund in 5-7 business days. Time went by without a refund. Called again and said they would expedite the refund. Waited a few days and called again after finding out STILL NO REFUND. Today 10/10 after this has gone on for 4 weeks I called again and spoke with a rep who stated his system showed they refunded. They actually told me to call my bank. Really?!? I applied for a loan in June 2016. As I have not checked my credit score in a while, I was curious to see what it would be. Without a question of trust, I used the Experian site. We are not supposed to be concerned that the 3 Credit Bureau have all of our personal information. They are supposed to be vaults for our complete financial data.
Experian advertised in big letter "One Time Report for $39.95!" I used a debit card by one of my banks to sign up for the "one time report." Next thing I know, I am receiving charges for $39.95 every month since. I called Experian who defensively replied that it was no mistake on their part and I "HAD to have signed up for a subscription." I am a senior on social security, so why on earth would I need to view my credit report every month, especially since Experian can see that I hadn't looked at it in years.
So, Experian reversed the charges and assured me that the subscription that I "had to have signed up for" would be closed. Then in August 2016 (one month after!!) I start getting recurring charges for the exact same $39.95 from "Scoresense," another credit report company, but on a completely different bank checking account. Now is it not ironic following that same month that I supposedly closed my account with Experian, I start getting charges from Scoresense. That's not the end of it. I also happen to get a letter from Comenity Bank that they received my application for a Wayfair Credit Card, but cannot proceed until I call them to verify some information. Again, the credit card request happens in August 2016, following the supposed closing my "Experian" account.

Very disappointed with Experian. I received 3 charges of $21.9540 for an updated credit report which I NEVER intended to sign up for. They offered "Free Credit Reports" for a $1 which is a "gotcha" to do a continuous monthly charge to your bank account for $21.95 (without prior authorization), because "the consumer didn't read the fine print!" I called after realizing I had been debited and they said that they are not able to refund the payment because "you did not cancel the membership soon enough." They reversed the "membership", yet said they couldn't reimburse this charge because "it was VALID!"
I will NEVER do business with Experian again and will share this news with anybody who is considering using their service. Experian should be reported to the Better Business Bureau by every consumer experiencing this unfortunate situation. Their system is very sensitive & deceiving to the customer. Finally, don't bother speaking to a supervisor, they are only there to repeat the same scripted line over & over again!! VERY, VERY DISSATISFIED.

Saturday, I signed up for Experian's $1 credit-report-and-subscription (cancellable within 7 days), on behalf of my wife. I downloaded the information, which was useful to us, and wanted to close the subscription. It was not at all obvious how to do that from their website, though they had a 'Contact Us' link that I could not use then. Afterwards, I read the reviews on this site, and was pretty worried (though I didn't have a lot of sympathy with the reviewers who claimed ignorance about the $1 actually starting a subscription), but I decided to continue diligently.
I called Experian two days later, on Monday. After a 20 minute wait, I talked with "Brad." He said that he could not help me, because the account was to get credit information on my wife and I was not her, even though I told him I had Power of Attorney on her behalf. He asked if I had any other questions. I asked something like, "Why are you illegally refusing to honor my Power of Attorney?" He politely replied that it was company policy.
I insisted on speaking to his supervisor (Thanks, ConsumerAffairs, for the review that clued me into the efficacy of this approach!). After about a 5 minute wait, I talked with "Morgan." She was MUCH more helpful. She had me give her detailed information about the credit card I used for the $1 charge, and my name, and said my subscription was terminated. And I immediately got an e-mail confirmation of the cancellation (to my wife's e-mail account).
That was a pretty good result for me. I have been on the phone for two hours with other companies before getting results. The only complaint I have is that if I had not known to insist to talk with Brad's supervisor, I would have had to resort to Plan B: reporting my card as stolen (Fortunately, that would have been easy. The card was from USAA, and they have my Power of Attorney on file under her account.). Lessons: 1. Read the fine print (especially when you are giving out your credit card information). 2. Cancel within the 7 days. 3. If you can't get cooperation, talk to a supervisor.

I told her that "first of all, we trust you for our credit history, we give our sensitive information to your company, and you are stealing our money". When we did not authorize to take from our account, why ask for $1.00 dollar and then charge us continuously and upon request you do not want to return our money? Even the bank gives back within 90 days, and as of yesterday you have charged me and she gave me only one month back and refused the other month. I mentioned I am going to write to Consumer affairs. First just wanna say after reading these reviews I just experienced the same thing. I should of read these reviews first. It is after business hours to contact this company but how do you take 21.95 off my card and it's after business hours. I get an alert on my phone at 9:45 pm and office is close at 6:00 pm that a transaction was made from Experian. So I go on to the site and can't even cancel the membership. It won't let you and won't even let you edit your information even where it says edit. I did the $1.00 thing in the beginning of the month and never authorized for no 21.95 to be taken off my card. I am literally pissed off right now and I will be calling this company first thing in the morning. As I read in these reviews I'm sure I'm not the last one that's going to have this issue. I am on the Board of Directors of a company that closed in Dec. 2015. My responsibility was helping with the final closing financials and shareholder distributions. The business used Experian's services concerning individual's credit ratings. In May 2016 I noticed Experian debited our bank account in the amount of $312. When I called Experian on the 2nd of June I was told that they would complete a refund for that amount and the funds should be back into the account within 2-5 business days. Today's date is Sept. 28 and the funds have yet to make it into our account. I called my first contact (Adrian **) around June 14 and was given a number for accounts receivable. The number went to voicemail and was told that they will return the call within 24 hrs. When they didn't call back I tried about 15 times on different days after that leaving the same message but my call was never returned.
I finally got a live person (Cepilia **) on August 15 and she had me email her the request with our account #, invoice #, and credit memo #. I was told that the funds could take up to 45 days to be returned. 45 DAYS!! IT'S OUR MONEY!! Now here it is 45 days later and no money. Experian ads say their responsibility is "doing business the right way". If this is the right way to do business then I have been doing it wrong all my life. If I owed someone this long you can bet Experian would be downgrading my credit rating. It looks like I will be calling our attorney in the morning.

Almost a month later, to avoid getting charged again, I called my bank, placed a stop payment on all Experian charges, and made a claim for the $21.95, which the bank refunded. Experian is now top of my list of BAD CONSUMER companies. I am a victim of identity theft and was doing what I have been advised to do: freeze my credit and then order a report every 6 months. I have done this twice now with the other companies with no problem but in June I ordered my report from Experian, apparently paying $1 to get it, and inadvertently was "sold" a $21.95/mo subscription to something I never used, asked for, or authorized. I am pretty good about not getting burned in this way, but Experian apparently is either too tricky or as a consumer, I was too trusting. Of all the companies to resort to this online trickery! These credit score companies act almost like quasi-government agencies. They should not be allowed to prey upon already victimized consumers. What a shameful practice. Experian should be embarrassed.
