I finally get someone on the line after an hour wait. She helps me, but notes I have to be transferred to dispute resolution to finish resolving the issue. I ask that she resolve my issue directly as I do not want to be on hold again. I am put on hold and after another hour wait, someone answers and says they are happy to take my callback information, but are closing for the night. Why even bother to leave me on hold.

It boggles the mind that the government basically allows these nobodies to have access to OUR personal information, and then, as if adding insult to injury, these ** (Experian) DON'T ANSWER THE PHONE and only have limited options that 80% of the time do not pertain to why someone is calling in, and only serve to keep you going around in circles. Seriously. Someone PLEASE begin a class action suit because based on the precepts upon which most laws were written, this CANNOT be legal.

I have been with Experian for several years with no problems and then I received an email from them advising me to review my alert. They even give me the link to my account which I did not need or use. I instead went to my login page for my account and tried to log in only to get a reply that my account had been lock due to multiple attempts even though I only tried to log in once. I then called the 800 number on my membership card and got a message that the wait time would be more than 1/2 hr so I waited but never got a rep. I disconnected and did some running for a friend and then tried to call back only to be advised the wait time would be over one hr. At this rate I will probably be dead by the time I get in contact with Experian on this ALERT.

I am currently disputing a $29.95 charge on my card for an Experian membership. I've never signed up for that! Called the automated service and CANNOT get through to anyone. The automated service even verified that I do not have a membership with them. I have looked all over for a different way to contact Experian and all phone numbers lead to the same automated system. There is no email address or chat option. You literally can't get to anyone. This company is so crooked it's amazing that they are in business and have access to all of our personal information. They are outright thieves. They need to go down - be out of business - be against the law.

I was offered to sign up for a FREE membership, but somehow they must've snuck in a checkbox somewhere and charged me 20$ a month for several months before I noticed, since the first time I was charged I thought a landlord was checking my credit report. I feel cheated out of my money and lied to. Furthermore, when I recently tried to downgrade to the free version of the membership (which was a hassle to find on their webpage in the first place), I found out I apparently have to *wait* to downgrade because my order has to be "submitted" first.

In other words, it seems I'm still signed up for the paid membership until the system decides they've bled me enough. It's taking ages for my "order" of a downgraded membership to be "processed" on the webpage. When I click the "stop charging me monthly" button, I want to KNOW that I won't be charged, and I want it to work RIGHT AWAY. We have the technology for that; Experian is just holding my credit card hostage at this point.

I was a victim of the Experian data breech resulting in my social security number, date of birth and address being released. My identity was stolen resulting in 8 fraudulent credit applications in 3 months. I had to purchase credit monitoring because what they offered victims wouldn’t work when I tried to register. I had to freeze my credit. They never sent me the required letter with information confirming the freeze and how to unfreeze it. I now need to unfreeze my credit to purchase a car for my 72 year old mother in law.

I have contacted them online and by phone and they refuse to do it, even though I provided all the identifying information and the personal pin they gave me when I requested the freeze. They will assist if I pay $24 a month for their monitoring, which I thought was illegal. You can not reach anyone on the phone except the automated system and there in no email addresses. Their dispute system is inaccessible and discriminatory, their security practices are clearly inferior and their response in clearly negligent. I have filed complaints with the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Protection Bureau.

However, trying to use the activation code proved impossible so I tried to talk to someone at the company, what a joke. I have been on hold for 30 minutes after being told it would be 2 minutes. You can only talk to them by scheduling a call back on-line. Why do these companies make it so difficult to talk to them? I am going to try another company, even if I have to pay for it. I even contacted the state attorney general and they didn't stop them either. I called the number on the Experian charge profile and entered into an automated system which did not offer the option to speak to a representative. Once I navigated to the option to cancel the membership, I received a response stating that I did not have one. I contacted my credit card bank to open a dispute. I was told that they are receiving many calls about this same Experian charge. I will get the charges reversed. Beware, check your statements closely!

I think this tactic is very sly and purposely meant go unnoticed by many consumers in order to basically steal money. I always remember what bills are being deducted out of my account because I receive some type of notification. However, I did not receive any email or letter stating money was being taken out of my account. I believe as a credit union this is not a fair service to advertise, and the money should definitely be refunded. Very disappointed and seriously angry.

A company I am doing business with needed access to my Experian account. For whatever reason, I could not log-in to my account and the website did not recognize my SSN. I have spent 1/2 a day and 7 different phone numbers trying to get into my account. Can't get a live rep at any of the numbers. Wish I was not even associated with his organization. If they were not a company that the general public HAS to be enslaved to, they would out of business in a day. If I could give them a 0 rating I would. What a great way to run a company; avoid your customers at all costs. Does anybody know if Experian even has a phone system in their offices?

It's unacceptable for a credit reporting bureau to be that difficult to reach on the phone. Their automatic menu is frustrating and doesn't cover 1/2 consumers' needs, and if you don't have a membership with them...then good luck reaching a customer service representative, I mean a live talking person to explain your situation to and try to resolve your report problems with. They seem not to care about others than their monthly paying members, and I say that from experience: after several ridiculously frustrating calls where it was impossible for me to speak to someone, I subscribed for their almost $20 monthly plan with a free trial month, and surprisingly, the call that followed went through like a breeze. It's outraging that a company that monitors and manages something critical like people's credits use such low-level tactics to discourage people from contacting them or pushing them to pay for what is their right.

Most phone numbers found in searching (the list I tried is posted here- all numbers end up saying "Goodbye" with no options for a live rep.) get you into a frustrating, non-productive loop: 866-617-1894; 714-830-7000; 877-284-7942; 800-493-1058. I actually called an Equifax "live number" and a rep. was kind enough to give me an Experian "live number". THE NUMBER TO CALL FOR A LIVE PERSON IS: 866-640-2273. After waiting 20 minutes, the rep. who answered told me she couldn't help with membership and transferred me. After a few more minutes of waiting, a live person in membership responded. I asked for their direct number in case we were disconnected: 888-397-3742. (Note that I tried this number later. Again, it is the endless loop. Don't use it.)

The rep. found my account (that I couldn't find by phone or online) and cancelled it; however, she firmly stated the contract notes that no refunds are permitted and my $32.57 now pending on my charge would remain. I asked her to connect me to a supervisor. She "tried connecting me" and 5 seconds later came back online to state that she could now refund $29.97. I told her the charge is $32.57.

I insisted on speaking to the supervisor. After holding for several more minutes, the supervisor came on. I stated my whole case. He apologized for the glitches in the system, stating that the entire amount of $32.57 was being refunded. His explanation is that they are working on integrating their system to avoid these situations. Overall - horrible experience. Feels like a total scam. Do not purchase the free trial unless you want this frustrating experience.

I tried automated phone service (Experian service number), but it was keep being told by machine that my account doesn't even exist...and I was stuck. So, knowing ProtectMyID company is also a part of Experian, I called their customer service number instead. 1-866-960-6943. Of the three credit bureaus I had to contact about a death in my family, Experian was terrible. I had to speak with a person about what process I had to follow in this case. Getting to speak with a human was almost impossible. I wanted to put a freeze on my deceased father's account. All due respect to non-native English speakers, but this is an important matter. When I did finally speak with someone, they did not understand my issue, thinking it was "me" that I was making the freeze for! VERY frustrating and time-consuming. But Experian was the worst by far. One point, (for better or worse) these 3 Credit Bureaus are NOT part of the government and so they do what is financially best for them.

I was greeted with a foreign voice which fortunately I was able to understand. I asked him to cancel my account. The payment was not yet due until the 27th of the month - an auto deduct from my credit card.

What I was told made no sense to me- First he tells me because they are doing a migration of the accounts my account was canceled. I should have received an email stating the migration not that my account would be closed. Since I rec'd no email I asked him if it stated in the email that if I didn't reply to the email would my account automatically be cancelled? He said it would be upgraded to the new system? MORE CHARGES??? I don't know. I asked him, "Please cancel NOW" (to make it official that I cancelled) even though he said I no longer had an account, and "DO NOT charge me on the 27th."

He said I need to call back in a week. That they will charge me again and credit me??? I told him, "NO, I did not want to call back. I want this off my plate now at 11:35 AM 11/14/2018." He said because of the migration he can't do that? I said, "It is already cancelled. Why not? This seems highly illegal!" HE HUNG UP ON ME!!! Had I not called I never would have known my account was cancelled. What kind of company is this that holds you hostage giving out credit scores yet can jerk people around when it comes to their business. This is exactly WHY people have trouble with creditors - this is why it's hard to fix credit - you would think they would be sympathetic? They have their own rules.

Unbeknownst to me, or other Experian Credit Tracker app users, recent phone updates made it so that app was no longer accessible. The app WAS THE ONLY reason why I agreed to pay $24.99/month for credit monitoring (it was convenient). For the past few months, I have tried countless times to make contact with Experian to cancel my membership. EVERY phone number provided is an automated, with NO OPTION to cancel the paid membership. I have sent emails to Experian, with no response, and if not for the help of blogs, I wouldn't know how to deal with this issue.

Since we can't dispute the credit card charges, and recurring charges will continue to post, I was left with no option other than to use a prepaid credit card number (I don't think it has a balance) on my billing profile online. When they attempt to charge it, it should HAPPILY reject. We've all been taken advantage of here, to the tune of $24.99/month for many of us. I'm looking forward to the class action settlement where I am able to recover 1/100 of the money lost to Experian. Shame on them.

I do not recall ever getting a credit check or signing up with Experian for anything at all. After 6 years of continuous monthly charges, I cannot get a hold of anyone at the company to cancel and get these charges to stop. I have tried numerous times to get a representative at the Experian number but can never get someone to talk to personally. When I key my social security number and birth date into their phone system it states that the system cannot find me and that I do not have a subscription with them, although they've been charging me a monthly fee for 6 years now.

I've emailed their support email address twice and never get a response. The fee started years ago at $19.95 and now it’s at $24.99 a month. This company has gotten so much money from me. I am frustrated because I cannot get anyone on the phone or get a response back from their support dept. through email and I need these charges to stop. I would like to cancel whatever subscription they claim I have with them but have had no success at doing so. So I am still paying them monthly charges in the meantime.

We have had Experian credit monitoring for 2 years, after a free period offered by the Target hack. We signed up at their 79.95 coverage. Last week we received an email "announcing" that we were being upgraded. This was not presented as an optional offer. The email said that once the upgrade was complete we would be sent additional information. And they announced that our next billing would be at 99.95. (I just paid 79.95 in August.) I sent an email to their customer service dept and they responded that they couldn't do anything because they could not identify my account with my email address. Funny, it was the same address that they sent the announcement to. I responded with all of the information that they asked for and asked to have them call. Yes, I did also tell them that I did not appreciate their scamming techniques. No email reply and no return call.

I called their customer service dept. I finally was connected to a woman who said she would transfer me to the upgrade dept. She simply disconnected the call. I called back and spoke to another woman who was apologetic, gave me another number in case I was disconnected and then did successfully transfer me to a CSR who was willing to help. By this point, all I wanted to do was cancel. She wanted to know if I didn't maybe want to wait until more information came out about the new upgraded program, which she said still was not finalized, and that perhaps there would be other options that might interest me.

If a program is not finalized, why send out a notice of a more expensive, non-optional upgrade. Total scam. It is like having the wolf watching the hen house. We cancelled our accounts. I have never written a review, so I guess I must be upset. They are supposedly protecting us from scammers, but they are just as guilty. There are other monitoring options out there, choose one of them instead.

My Experian credit report contains more of another women's credit than my own. Her maiden name is my married name. Our social # only two digits apart. Didn't discover sooner because she pays her bills too. But when I went to take out a mortgage loan, her loans trumped my ability to qualify. I contacted her... she has contacted the company, but nothing has changed, even though her loan companies have been in touch with me. Only Experian... both of the other companies show me all clear. How could it be so far wrong, in the first place, and 2nd why can't you make a direct call to a real person and get this fixed. Most infuriating, I can't log on to file or view my report online because I can't verify the details of the loans that aren't mine!

They speak fast with an accent and have a total inability to say the name of American cities which is a problem when the correct answer to a security question is the name of an American city.

Yesterday, I applied for a car loan but the application would not go through MULTIPLE TIMES because Experian wouldn't remove lock and security freeze on my data. I tried to do it online at their website and also phoned 3 times and spoke to customer svc incompetents. NOTHING WORKED!!! I spoke with Vivian in Costa Rica, Roxie in the Philippines, another guy in the Philippines, and Ace in the Philippines. All gave me incorrect misinformation. When I asked Roxie to connect me to a Supervisor she told me she couldn't get the call connection to go through. Finally, I called back and cancelled the svc. My husband is being punished TWICE for the same exact student loan on his Experian credit report-one open, one closed-and Experian JUST. WON'T. REMOVE. IT! No matter what we do, or how many disputes we enter/proof we submit, they just won't remove off of his credit report. He just recently disputed it again, final results came in on Oct. 16th...2 days ago. Still there! It's a very clear mistake, even Credit Karma immediately recognized it and removed it for us, off of his report through them. I even told Experian this and yet there it is! Still remaining on his report through Experian! Spare yourself and don't waste your time. Use Credit Karma. Not to mention the fact that you get a free score through Credit Karma and you don't get one through Experian, at all, they make you pay for one.

I'll NEVER get behind a company that doesn't care and doesn't do the right thing and fix problems for people. It's been brought to their attention and addressed many of multiple times now... Someone could have fixed it by now. Anyone! Their dispute center is just AWFUL and USELESS! On the other hand, Credit Karma's is awesome and did remove it because it was the right thing to do. Credit Karma has a wonderful dispute team/center. They are actually trying to help people improve their credit score and remove errors that are HURTING PEOPLE... Experian doesn't care about helping you or your credit score, apparently...AT ALL!

I get SO mad every time I see that CLOSED loan on there. Not to mention the account is already how many years old now...5...almost 6. Like they couldn't just remove it for the sake of it being a disputed problem from us over and over again, for so long and that it's been on there hurting his score for long enough now?? I tried to call them and could not get a hold of them. Their website said I was using too much of my credit and the best way to improve my credit score was to make a small purchase on the card each month like gas and put the card on auto payments. My question is how much does Experian get paid for getting me to take the card that total messed up my credit. Now they are offering me more cards saying, "These are a good match to help you improve your credit score." They also tell me if I want to protect my credit from the dark web I need to take out their credit watching service.

After filing disputes and many hours of phone calls they found that they accidentally merged another individual's information with mine, despite the other individual living in another state, and having a different SSN, name and gender. Once they fixed the problem I asked for the new credit report but they said if I wanted the updated report I would have to purchase another credit report from them ($40!). In other words, they made me pay for a credit report they screwed up, jeopardized my rental application, cost me hours on the phone and email, and then wouldn't send me an updated credit report without spending another $40. I was told by Experian that having a "Bank Issued" Credit Card would increase my Credit Score and Credit Worthiness over time. So, I looked at the offers that they provided as matched to my Score. I found one that was acceptable and applied for it. Experian shows me on my account that my credit score was 707 (A Good Rating), yet provided to the Credit Card Bank a score of 652 (A Fair Rating).

What is the point of offering me a Credit Score every month if a different score is provided to inquiries by companies? I was denied the Credit Card by Chase Bank because I do not have a Bank Issued Card. Duh! Thats why I was applying for one. How is it a "Matched" card if I get denied for not having a bank card when that is one of the negative factors of my Credit Score. Not Matched. Now, I am dinged for another Hard Inquiry that cannot be disputed perpetrated between Chase Bank and Experian.

Be aware, potential creditors can see those too! So, when Experian reported that I have "few accounts that are in good standing", "short credit history" & "no recent activity on credit cards and/or open-ended accounts" I was upset to say the least. Especially, considering I am 43 yrs old with 25 years of positive credit, all of which are open & currently being used. I opened a ticket with Experian in the beginning of July. This is now the end of September. I have called & spoken to multiple supervisors (the latest being Brenda) all who assured me their IT department is aware of the ticket & are handling the tickets in the order in which they are received.

I asked Brenda if there are really that many inaccuracies being reported that they have a 3 month + back up? Possibly, can they really not afford enough staffing to correct the issues with a net income of almost 1 billion a year? I tried to explain to Brenda that it has been a quarter of the year & interest rates are increasing. As time goes on & they fail to correct this issue, Experian costs me more. Just like every other representative/supervisor I received nothing but indifference & no assistance. They will offer NO information or further assistance. I asked Brenda who I could call or speak to that could help me & she plainly stated, "No one. I.T. doesn't accept calls & we have to wait for them to review your ticket." I am still waiting. Pretty sweet system. Experian collects substantial income, reports misleading, inaccurate information that can be damaging & very costly & they have no consequences.

Of course we did.

We tried this over and over, over the course of two days, at different times of the day. We attempted to find phone support, but after doing everything we could figure out to reach a real person, we gave up, went online, and found several pages of reviews by people who were unable ever to reach a live person at Experian. We then tried the phone method to lift a credit freeze. This we did about six times. We'd enter or say all the correct information, but eventually the regular recorded voice would change, and we would hear "please send us a letter to accomplish your credit freeze" (or words to that effect). This recording came on at a different time each time we tried. I am full of helpless loathing. Their telephone prompts for me was like you were on a merry-go-round. Kept bringing me back to the main menu when all I wanted to do was speak with a rep to have my freeze removed. So, I decided to attempt it online and I got to the portion where they ask you security questions. I answered all of them correctly and submitted the form. I then got booted off the system. I must have tried about 10 more times online and to no avail could I do it. So again, back to the phone.

I finally found a phone number that will eventually put you through a rep. 800-493-1058. Get ready to press many buttons. It was a guessing game that finally got me through. I thought I had success, but I've learned, according to the rep, if you failed to answer a security question online, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing they can do for you to remove the freeze. They could not ask me any security question to remove the freeze, because the backward system that Experian has there does not allow them to do it. So, I was told to upload documents (License, utility bill, bank statements, etc...), anything that proves your identity. I asked for an email or a fax. They don't have one. That's right, THEY DON'T HAVE ONE. Imagine that. In today's day of technology, they don't have one.

All the rep could tell me was, it's for security reasons. LOL... More like, they are living in the stone ages. So, now I am back to the computer. After 5 tries, I finally got my documents uploaded. I was told it will take 5-10 business days before it happens. What am I supposed to tell the Seller of the house I am buying? Experian offered 3 credit reports and FICO score for $1.00 for 7 days, as long as you cancel before then, I tried canceling as soon as I got it and was unable to due to voluminous hours of being on hold. After the 7 days they started charging my account $29.95, and 4 months later I still cannot cancel. After numerous times of trying to cancel my account with no avail. I contacted an attorney and filed a class action suit. Don't let anyone at Experian tell you they won't give you a full refund when you are tricked into paying a monthly membership. I recorded the customer service reps telling me that I had zero activity in my account for over 3 months after my "one dollar" credit report, and then I complained to the Better Business Bureau. In the complaint, I said that I had evidence that I never used the service and that Experian never sent one receipt for the charges against my account. Experian gave me a full refund for the months I didn't use it after this complaint.

Do NOT let them tell you that they can't give a full refund, demand to talk to a manager, and then show them my response from the BBB as proof that they give full refunds. Tell them you have recorded the conversation and that you are complaining to the BBB and FTC. The managers are hostile, so be sure to record your conversation. If they say they don't consent to being recorded, tell them that you didn't ask for their consent. Consent is already implied because of the recording at the beginning of the customer service calls that say you may be recorded.

Experian's entire business model is built on doing the least amount possible to let you know you are being charged for a monthly membership, and then making it as difficult as possible to cancel. Customer service reps will tell you it's completely impossible to get a full refund, and then managers of the reps will bully you into not calling anymore. Complain to the BBB, file a complaint with FTC, and then contest the charges with your bank. Don't let them continue to get away with this.

Today finally I got a representative on the phone who told me that my husband's account is still active and asked for the CC, which I gave him right away cause they are charging my CC. So I requested a refund, rep said I need to speak with the manager, manager turned out to be really rude and was yelling at me that I was using the wrong login. I was trying to explain to her that I used my husband's SS# and still was getting no account message. But was interrupting me at every word yelling.

Finally I gave up, said thank you and hung up. I personally cancelled all the accounts and they made a mistake and cancelled only 1 account and now I have to pay for their mistake as they are refusing to issue a refund. I also have emails that state that there is no account under my husband's SS#. And after all, how can they employ such rude customer support managers??? Outrageous!!!

So I go in and register for my FREE credit report that I am supposed to be entitled to by law. The company is in partnership with Experian. Okay. Cool. That's a name I recognize. I sign up for my FREE credit report (stated about 5 times on the first page alone) and then they tell me it's a $1 charge to verify my identity. Cool. No problem. I give them the $1. Well lo and behold - here we are 15 days later and my account has been charged $21.95.

I called customer service and told them that their website is EXTREMELY misleading and that I wanted my charge reverse. The rep said that she could cancel my account but "the system" wasn't allowing her to reverse the charge. I told her that was unacceptable and that I needed the charge reversed. She said "Sorry, I can't do that, the system won't allow it".

I then asked to speak to someone whose system could reverse it and she played dumb and replied with "Ma'am I'm not sure who you want to speak with" and I repeated again, that I needed to speak with someone who could reverse the charge. We did this song and dance for about 5 minutes and then FINALLY she put me on hold - for 10 minutes might I add - and came back and said her supervisor was able to reverse the charge. I requested a confirmation so I can follow up in case my charge isn't reversed. We'll see if it actually happens... If you're seeking your actual free report visit annualcreditreport.com.

In only four attempts, my husband and I have spent a total of more than four hours on hold. Each time, we've had other business pull us away from the phone. The worst part is, that after each abandoned call, we've gotten distracted and allowed another month and another $25 to evaporate. In my opinion, Experian already owes us about $100 for having such lousy customer service! As I write, I've been on hold this time for 57 minutes. I called the phone number noted on the statement, but got a message that the wait time was in excess of two hours. I did not have two hours to remain on hold at that time. I called my credit card company and reported the charges as fraud. They canceled my card and returned all charges to me. I have no idea how these charges were first started. I read other complaints online about this same thing and learned that I had probably gotten into their site by mistake when the data breach of the other credit bureau happened.

I was receiving emails from Experian, but didn't read them and deleted them without knowing why I was getting the emails. I then reviewed my credit card history and found out I had been charged $21.95 for October - March. I felt so stupid that I had not noticed the charges. I then called Experian and waited 2 hours 33 minutes only to be disconnected. In order to get into their phone system I was required to input my full ss# and zip code which I have been told is a dangerous thing to do and opens me up to having my data hacked. It seems contrary to the mission and purpose of the credit bureau to have this requirement in order to speak to a customer service person.

When I was disconnected, I received an email from Experian asking for my evaluation of customer satisfaction. I rated them very low and told them about the charges in the email. They responded that they would refund me, but did not say what the refund would consist of. I am now not sure if this was "fraud" or more of a consumer scam to get me to sign up for a monthly charge. Regardless, I was getting charged, I did not know I had agreed to the charge nor that I had an "account" with Experian; Experian is not reachable by phone using a reasonable response time; Experian requires every caller to input their full ss# and zip in order to proceed into accessing their phone system; Experian has a great deal of power to retaliate on any individual.

For everyone who needs to cancel their membership sign in. Then in the top right corner click on your initials. Then on the left click on my membership. Then click on update online which is on the bottom of the page. After clicking update online click the option that is free no charge and that's it.I really wish Experian would let everyone know how to do this. It causes so much stress.

You all literally echo my thoughts and frustrations with Experian. But I would like to share with you all what I did that worked for me to at cancel my subscription. When you call Experian first you are asked questions to verify your account. After you have answered the personal questions you will start to be asked questions to determine why you are calling. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT follow the prompts leading to “cancel my subscription.” As soon as the automated system started asking the questions to determine why I was calling I began pressing random numbers that weren’t any options being given (#, 0, *) in hopes it would just transfer me to a rep, and guess what it did. I was on the phone and canceled all within five minutes.

When I followed the prompts to cancel the subscription I was on hold for 2.5 hours before I hung up. Then I tried what I just explained. Don’t let them tell you they can’t do it, they can! I was never put on hold or transferred. When my call was answered I told her I wanted my subscription cancelled. I had no interest in hearing any new promos, and she cancelled my subscription. I also received an email regarding the cancellation. Hope this helps.

Like many of you, I was pulling my hair out unable to get through by phone to cancel my account. I was fuming over the scam they are running. You can sign up in a few minutes but it is pretty much impossible to cancel. I never got through by phone or email but it struck me that they probably have a Facebook page. They do and I found it. Left a comment calling them bad things and suggesting that their management should be in jail.

The comment disappeared and I got a pop-up that said the comment was under review (I assumed they would just delete it). But just shortly after, my comment actually showed up, including my profanities, and there was a response asking me to send them a note through FB messenger. So I did and the woman I chatted with through messenger closed my account and refunded the last charge... instantly. No problem. Finally happy this is over, but I feel bad for the literally thousands of people who didn't find this approach. I hope this helps people.

Every year, I check my credit report, and I pay a fee (usually $4.95), to receive my credit score. This year I found, to my surprise, that I had unknowingly signed up for a $19.95 monthly fee to be a "member" of Experian. I was scolded by the customer service representative, told that I should have read "the fine print"! I demanded a refund for the two months that I was charged. After much debate, I stuck to my guns and was told that I would be issued a "one time courtesy" refund. After checking my email, I found that the company was only issuing a refund for one month. When I called back and questioned this to a different customer service rep, I was scolded again and told that it was very generous of them to have even issued a refund at all as I obviously should have known what I was signing up for.

I requested to speak to a manager, who scolded me yet again, by telling me that the first customer service rep. was kind enough to have cancelled my paid account, reimbursed me for one month, AND signed me up for a FREE monthly service. She acted like I should be really grateful to the Experian gods, and how stupid I was for not understanding all this when all I wanted was my credit score, and to pay the $4.95 like I do every year. When I persisted, she said that it is "company policy" to only issue a one month refund, and if I was unhappy, that I should contact my bank to try to recover the other month. She reiterated my "new, FREE membership" that was so valuable and so nicely bestowed upon me by the great Experian, and if I didn't like it, she could cancel that as well. What a deceptive, underhanded, and just plain nasty business model. As others have stated, Experian most certainly does suck!

In February 2018 I signed up for a trial subscription with Experian and I tried to cancel by phone before my subscription expired. Even though they claim that I can cancel at any time, it is not true. I tried dozens of times in the course of a week, at different times during the day, and I was simply not able to get through to them. Then I wrote them a letter with my account information asking to cancel my subscription immediately. More than two weeks later I got a letter from Experian regarding my letter saying that "the information that you provided was not eligible"... The letter was typed in Word and printed in a very good printer! My gosh, I realized that these guys are nothing short of crooks! When I try to contact Experian, the auto attendant is forcing people to key in their Social Security Number. That is logged in plain text on the phone server that doesn't have the same level of security as the Application and Database Servers. So I have always refuse keying in my Social (you should too). Anyway... They are forcing people to subscribe to their Credit Lock Service so they can charge you. Credit Freeze is free or $10 one time fee. On 12/18/2017 I agreed to a $1.00 credit card charge to access my Experian credit report. It was posted on 2/19/2018. Subsequently, the following charges from Experian have been posted on my credit card: Post Date 01/02/2018 for $21.95, Post Date 01/30/2018 for $21.95. On 02/27/2018 I called Experian customer service (1-855-962-6943) to ask what these charges were for. In response to the questions asking why I was calling I said yes to wanting to cancel. The recording response told me I have a three month free membership, and then said "goodbye" and hung up. I then called the number shown on my credit card charges (1-866-751-1326). This time I stated I had a question about my membership. I was advised the wait would be over an hour, so I hung up as anytime after an hour could be several hours.

Today, 02/28/2018, I mailed a letter by Certified Mail Receipt to the contact mailing address shown on their website, which is ConsumerInfo.com, Attn: Customer Care, PO Box 2390, Allen, TX 75013. My letter states I have never agreed to the charges, and their recording stated I have a free membership so the charges are not valid. I asked for immediate action to issue a credit of $43.90 and to cease making further charges on my credit card. I gave them my name, address, home phone address and email address.

Updated on 06/22/2018: This is an update to my original submission/complaint of 02/28/2018. On 02/28/2018 I wrote to Experian advising I had never agreed to charges on my credit card of $21.95 dated 01/02/2018 and 01/30/2018, respectively. Their first response email of 03/13/2018 (1:13 PM) advised they were cancelling my membership effective 03/29/2018, and no further charges would be applied to my credit card. Their second response email of 03/13/2018 (1:16 PM) advised they were processing my refund of $21.95.

My next credit card statement had a single credit of $21.95 and a new $21.95 charge posted on 03/01/2018. On 03/30/2018 I wrote back asking them to remove all three charges as I had been advised by a recording on 02/27/2018 that I had a free membership. They now responded by letter dated 04/10/2018 that an additional credit of $21.95 would be made and they would be unable to process an additional refund.

My letter of 05/10/2018 again requested they issue a third and final credit of $21.95. In return, their letter of 05/22/2018 for the first time claims when I was charged $1.00 for a credit report on 12/18/2017 I was advised I now had a monthly trial membership that would activate after a period of time unless I notified them I wished to cancel, and they will not be able to process any additional funds to my "membership" (my quotation marks). I appealed again in writing on 06/04/2018 and they have advised me their position remains the same. I am going to bring this to the attention of those whose need to know how they operate.

I did not supply an updated credit card for billing and tried to reach them online to request cancellation; however I was not able to sign on to my account until I supplied an "updated credit card". Meanwhile Experian has been accruing charges but not allowing access to my account. I have tried to reach them by telephone but have been on one hour and ten minutes as I write this review...I have reviewed old paperwork I downloaded a year ago and it appears impossible to cancel membership. I am now forced to send certified mail to request cancellation to this company that portrays itself as looking out for you!!! Apparently it is a one-sided relationship. They are out for themselves and are unreachable, on purpose.

I had a nasty experience with Experian customer support earlier today. I paid $1 by credit card in September 2017, for what I believed was a charge to place a credit freeze on my account. However, I was actually scammed into signing up for a 7-day trial membership to their Credit Works Plus program, costing $21.95 per month. I did not notice the monthly charge to my credit card for the next few months, but when I did finally see what was going on I tried canceling the membership online and started calling Experian customer support for a full credit.

This was impossible to do over the past month because the of extremely long wait times (45 minutes to over 1 hour) when you call. Who do they think has time to waste waiting on hold for more than 45 minutes!!! When I finally reached them today after only 40 minutes on hold, they would only cancel the membership and credit me the last charge in December. However, they would not credit me for the Sept/Oct/Nov charges, which totaled $65.85. Like other consumers who have fallen for this Experian trap, I am appalled by their deceptive and dubious sales tactics.

I noticed in today's news that Senators Mark Warner and Elizabeth Warren introduced legislation to severely punish Equifax for their major security breach blunder last year. I believe the Senators should also look into the deceitful sales practice that Experian uses on consumers. Whatever license Experian possess to be one of the three credit bureaus, should be revoked and they should be required to refund consumers in full.

Several months ago, I subscribed to Experian's credit reporting service as I was planning on refinancing my home. I saw that my credit card was being debited $24.00 per month by Experian as a recurring charge for this service. After combing through the website, I learned that the ONLY way to cancel this subscription was via 1-800 number. I finally got through to a rep after being on hold (listening to advertisements for premium Experian services) for over 2 hours. I would have to suggest that any reasonable consumer should look to other consumer credit reporting services before dealing with Experian. If you can sign up online, you should be able to cancel online. To require a customer to place a 1-800 call that required a 2+ hour wait on hold is not borderline abusive... It is abusive.

Big mistake!!! The bank account bounced after paying a lot of bills. Thinking I made a math error I went bank through the statement to find a charge of $39.90. Had to ask the bank what the charge was since I didn't know what it was. They said it came from credit report.com.

Found a phone number and called it only to find the correct name (EXPERIAN CREDIT WORKS!!!) I'm now on hold, while writing this, in the hopes of canceling this membership I didn't know we had. Been almost an hour wait time and counting. I wonder if a lawyer got stung by this company? At last count, on the Consumer Affairs dashboard, there's over 1000 people and counting that have been burned by this. How many people do you need for a class action lawsuit? They owe me for $39.90 and bouncing bank charges $39.00. Now I can't cancel!!! I can see a trip to my bank in my future requesting a new debit card!

There is no way to cancel online which is strange enough, but when I called them, I was on hold with them for two hours on three different occasions and never even got a person on the phone! I tried some other numbers listed online but they were always busy. What kind of company runs their business like this? Ultimately I had to call my credit union and have them cancel my debit card and issue a new one to stop the charges. What a pain. So here I am having to donate at least an hour of my day to hopefully speak to a human being and get the charges reversed. There's no email or chat feature or any other way to speak with customer service, hence why their phone lines are heavily impacted. They're just a terrible company. Don't support them.

An email saying you will be billed 21.95 a month in the subject line would be nice as I am sure few people would file a credit dispute against Experian. I feel they should have given a full refund.

I supplied them with my Discover Card info etc.; I.E, a huge mistake. Due to the fact I didn't call to terminate my association with them via their initial scan they started billing me $19.95 per month. I've tried time and again to get through with an average wait time of one hour or more. This is ridiculous.

I called a number not provided by my account info that I acquired via researching complaints against this company. I finally reached an operator at 714 830 7000 who in turn transferred me to the same line that has a one hour queue. Prior to her doing so I laid out my complaint concerning customer service and I then realized all she did was punch my T.S. card. I've called Discover and stopped payment to them via the dispute process explaining I cannot get resolution via their contact numbers. No problem on the part of Discover. I've still tried to do the 'right thing' by making contact, but it's not going to happen.

Why oh why did I trust a company that lost millions of records due to a hack and decide to enlist their service is beyond me? I have their California address so I'll write a snail mail letter. I'm just a responsible person and will complete my part to terminate my membership. Based on my experience this company is engaged in consumer fraud even though they are in the business of tracking consumer credit for determining our FICO score/s, preventing fraud etc. How crazy is that?! Personally, I believe the whole thing is a scam. Experian, drops the ball with our info. Seem like a great marketing scheme to get more revenue from us. Very disappointed that a company this large is not forced to step up to the plate and make right with the individuals whose information got compromised. Profiting on their mistakes is extremely unjust!! However, if intentional how long till the other 2 agencies jump on board with this nonsense?

Experian was not authorized to charge me anything except $1 one time for what it gave some lame excuse for in order to send or give me a copy of my "free" credit report. Then on Oct. 2 I see that I've been charged $21.95 and also that Experian made this a monthly charge! So my bank has canceled my credit card to ensure they cannot do it again and I have to take about two hours, so far, to fill out the charge dispute form and fax it back to my bank.

I simply called to find out why my score drop so much. The first operator didn't understand why. She connected me with somebody else who was totally belittling arrogant nasty & put me on hold. Recording said I'd have to wait an hour. Their customer service is by far the worst and caring has very little knowledge of their service as to explaining issues.

Your credit card gets charged regardless of whether you cancel or not is my experience. I send a letter to cancel, and called. I was on hold for 1 hour and 38 minutes before getting a representative who said she was canceling the membership. Two days later I have a charge on my card. Also, they provide no online way to lift a freeze long enough for a creditor to review your credit. And no one can wait that long on the phone to try to get them to lift it. I had to jump through so many hoops to get a credit check for a recent purchase. None of them helped by Experian. I encourage you to stay as far away from this organization as you can get.

Due to the breach at Equifax I wanted to freeze my credit report. However Experian is the ONLY one that doesn't accept an online submission. In fact they make you jump through hoops so they can take your money. This is absolutely ridiculous! First I tried online, During that process I provided all information that was requested. Apparently it wasn't enough. Then I was redirected to "upload" documents and that process did NOT ask for the same one that were ultimately required in a letter that was sent me. They are the ONLY one out of the three that makes it nearly impossible. The others allowed me to accomplish the freeze online without any stupidity. Why can't they get with the program and provide a BETTER method? I think that they want to allow people to have the credit compromised or it's means for force you into paying a ridiculous monthly fee for "protection".

I signed up for trial. Said would be able to get a 3 bureau credit score/report. That's untrue. Was only able to get the Experian report. Their customer service is also horrible and have waited 3 hours trying to reach a representative at least 5 times. Do not do business with them. They will continue charging your credit card. I suggest just paying for your FICO score from each bureau and getting your 1 free credit report from them once a year. I will never order any of their services ever again.

I had the CreditWorks service which include 3 bureau credit monitoring, ability freeze Experian credit report, able to get FICO score and report from other 2 bureaus free once a year. Tried to get the 2 reports and scores from other 2 bureaus and their site wouldn't allow me. So I called Experian multiple times and they kept saying you need to contact the other bureaus as the problem is on their end. I did contact the other bureaus and they couldn't do anything about it. I called Experian 4 other times to tell them the other bureaus couldn't do anything about this problem and they kept saying contact them. I told them contacted them already. Like I said it’s a ring around the rosy contacting the other bureaus. I canceled my subscription and that’s why I will never do any credit bureau services as they all are the same.

I went to their Facebook page and sent a messenger request. They responded within hours. Took me off the monthly charge, refunded my CC, and told me how to put a free freeze on my account. I was unable to get any satisfaction on the website and never got through on the phone. Sarah did a great service to me. So my advice is to go to their Facebook page!

I signed up for $1.00 credit freeze on September 8th. September 14th they charged my credit card an additional $23.49 which I did not sign up for. I am on hold 45 minutes so far and can't get through. They should stop this practice. Can't something be done? I see a lot of the same complaints here.

The phone has not worked for hours (with no online notification) and my credit freeze application was turned down because my scanned file was too large. But, the company required that it be a TIFF - why not a jpeg? The whole experience has been incredibly frustrating, with no end in sight.

If could give ZERO stars on this review I would have! Due to the Equifax breach it has been advised by many experts to freeze one's credit with the three major credit bureaus. It has been a couple days now and I can't submit the freeze online with Experian. I've tried several times and it keeps informing me that they were not able to process my request. I then tried to search for a contact number on the website so I can speak to an agent and after searching high and low no contact number.

I finally Googled them and called a number where the agent told me they didn't handle freezes. She proceeded to give me another contact number which I tried a couple of times. Both times more than an hour on hold only to lead me to frustration and hanging up. I can't believe this a major credit bureau?? Very unprofessional and it seems they don't want to be called upon. I am now very scared that I filled out their questionnaire online with all my personal information and wondering where that might be. The previous poor reviews that I read here about their lack of customer service and borderline scamming is not reassuring or comforting either!

I had to use a credit service and used Experian. They charged me 1$ which I agreed but after two months, I realized that they were monthly charging me for 24.99$ or 21.95$ without agreeing to join their premium service. I tried to contact them a Wednesday and Thursday morning at 8am (they are open 6-6) at two different numbers: ** and 866-751-1326 without success. They do not have any email or forum online. I had to raise a dispute with my credit card company.
