Designed without consideration for consumers, and policies make repairing errors difficult. I submitted a correction of an incorrect address several years ago and no resolution forthcoming. Also, very slow to update with positives, but instantaneous with negatives, giving no time to correct before adverse effects. This can generally be said as true of other sites, but this one is in its own league.

Its rating is weird despite my perfect record of paying on time and low number of inquiries and several credit cards for over 40 years. I got 804 instead of near max 850. Always check my credit history annually and noticed some errors they displayed so it's very weird and inaccurate record.

They have stuff on there that's over 7 years, it's like nobody cares about that. And there are charges with companies, that I don't know. You would think that they would at least be fair and check off the items from over 7 years ago.

Equifax knew about security breach way before public informed. I was paying approx mo. Which I have had no compensation still. They attempted to send me a 38.00 check. Obviously, I would of been accepting it for settlement. Then class action suit gave me nothing. Or you could supposedly could have your credit monitored for so many years. I still have nothing. It ruined everything for me, my credit, yes hacked. I cannot use my email with another last name I have. This has been going on for years. I'm truly upset. Thank you!!!!

The people I dealt with pertaining to my issue were not friendly at all. Let me state that I have excellent credit and had a car loan from Toyota Motor Credit. Always paid car loan on time and paid off amount early to avoid any additional interest charges. Checked my score and it was down 10 points. Credit agency will list this as a closed account and penalize you for it.
Representative explained that due to the fact I closed the account it will affect my credit negatively even though I never closed the account. It was closed by Toyota due to the fact that the loan was satisfied. Please keep in mind if you are late or default on a loan you will lose points on your score and if you make all your payments on time and pay your loan off early you will also have your score downgraded. Just keep this in mind when they try and tell you how important it is to monitor your credit.

Each of these phone numbers 1-888-298-0045, 1-800-349-9960 and 1-888-202-4025 #6 (connect to agent) leads to the same automated system to "establish your identity." All fine until the last 4 questions-- Which of these bank cards did you open in 2012? None of the above isn't recorded as an answer-- The question keeps cycling-- Do you need more time? Do you need the question repeated? Which agency holds your student loan? Option 5-- none of the above (college days were in the past century...). Again none of these phone numbers registers a response. Three times they ended the same way "your identity cannot be verified, goodbye."
The last time the same question kept circling: which amount on the previous account (my "student loan??") represents the amount you paid? Again --#5, none of the above did not register as an option. The recording kept circling "do you need more time?" Asking for "agent" "customer service" "operator" "help" quietly or in an agitated voice did nothing. It was clear the only option was to establish an online account which I did unwillingly. They were hacked once. How do I know they won't be hacked again? Do I really want to give this information online? No choice if I wanted to temporarily remove a freeze to establish utility service.

This company need to be investigated. The employees hang up on you. Block you where you can’t get through and refuse to put a manager on the phone. Just a bunch of people who have total access to your life and can falsely apply disputes refuse to remove disputes and the people you file a complaint to against them is a joke. These people come to work and do what they wanna do. How can I apply? So I can sit and ruin people livelihood all day without a care or consequence. These people do what they wanna do because they know nothing will happen to them. I been trying to get a dispute remark removed for 60 days now. You say left they say right... They act like they don’t understand nothing. SMH. If I could give a negative zero.

I’ve been dealing with a dispute on Equifax for awhile. They can never verify me, yet the same info with the other two credit companies have no issues asking the same information. When they connect me to a agent their system is always down. The dispute I turned in is a no brainer. It’s been over a month and I’ve not heard a thing from them. Dispute is not even on the item I’m disputing. This last month my fico has done up 60 points with 2 out of 3 companies. Not Equifax. It went down. So from not being able to verify me, to every time I call the system is down, so I can’t be helped. Sounds shady to me.

I paid down 2 installment accounts and one of my credit card companies increased my line of credit by $100. As a result, Equifax dropped my score by 50 points! The kicker is the credit card company sent me the notification they were increasing my line of credit because of excellent payment history. I didn't apply! The other credit bureaus increased my score. How does it make sense to decrease someone's score for good consumer behavior and practices? Does not make any sense to me. Only Equifax does this and in my opinion... that's the worse practice ever. How do you overcome this????

This company constantly tries to get you to sign up for a monthly monitoring with “Boost”. You must select NO to a pop up each time you log in or you will be charge for a new membership ($24.99) without even knowing. Those boost points will stay on your credit as long as you continue to pay Equifax each month for that membership. As soon as you cancel your Equifax accounts, all these boost Fico scores you worked so hard for will disappear. A complete scams while acting like they are helping you “monitoring”. AVOID!!!!

Manier times their Customer service reps don't even know what they are talking about! Every time you call and you get a different information for the same problem. They have no idea why the score is, what it is, all they know is general, like pay bills on time etc etc. They always blame that the system auto generates the score and they have no idea about that. I argued many times that nothing has changed to my report, bills paid on time, no extra usage on credit cards, it is only 30% and no any credit inquiries and everything else is in place as last months and so then how come the score came down by 5-10 points and they had absolutely no answer and no idea. Also, If you fight for any dispute, the response is very late. Looks like they don't even know what they are doing? It is one of the biggest Credit Bureau and very sadly it is so damn poor in terms of service and knowledge.

I recently disputed the last two negative items on my credit report with valid reasons. These items were removed from Transunion within 48 hours. They are still showing with Equifax. Tonight I went to their site from Creditkarma's site once I figured out that I would probably have to dispute the negative items all over again with Equifax and when I entered the required information the first time I got a try again later our system isn't operating. Five minutes later I enter the info again and now I get "You must call customer care." So, I call customer care and after telling the computer things I'm pretty sure the government doesn't even know about me I finally get rung thru and YEP it's the computer guy again telling me they're closed.
My take? They could say they are closed before taking your first born. They could hire people because as far as I know the computer guy seems to be the only one actually working there. Finally, and this is my opinion... Equifax seams predatory in a way with regard to consumer credit reporting policies. I feel like there should be some kind of oversight committee if there isn't one. Either way what Transunion did in less than 2 days is exponentially more time consuming with Equifax and even though I won my disputes with Transunion I have this weird feeling it's not going to be a gimmie with Equifax. If there was a credit fairy I guess I just wish she or he would would beat the living daylights out of Equifax with an ugly wand. Thanks for reading!

I’m in the process of buying home and my lender has told me that in order to be approved for a mortgage with the best possible term, I should have any disputes removed from my credit files at all three credit bureaus and any consumer statements removed as well. To do this, I had to call and speak to customer support personally at Experian, Transunion, and Equifax. I called them all on Jan 31st. Both Experian and Transunion removed all of my open disputes and consumer statements while I was on the phone with them. Equifax, however, told me it could take up to 30 days to have them removed. Why does it take 30 days to remove the disputes that took me only 30 seconds to add back in 2018!
Fast forward to today, February 17th and nothing has been changed. I called them for the fourth the today and found out that the consumer dispute was never included into original call to remove disputes and consumer statement, so now I have to wait another 30 days for that and up to another 10 days for my original remove disputes request to be completed. CAN SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME GET THIS REMOVED!!! My financing contingency is Monday!!! Help!!

I've been having issues with Equifax for quite some time now. Among many other issues-- when something positive happens on my account, there's hardly ever a positive change to my score. The same information that is on Equifax is the same information I have on Transunion and Experian; yet, I'm always seeing it being reflected with a positive score change with each company except for Equifax. Equifax, is the only bureau that constantly take more than they give, from my experience. Just this past December there was a slight change (increase) in my utilization and it dropped my score on Equifax by 13 points!! 2 points on Transunion and 4 points on Experian. Now here come January-- my utilization decreased to 0% because I paid everything off, and wanted to give the system time to reflect the changes.
I also had an item removed in January which reflected on all 3 bureaus. The decrease in utilization gave me back my points I had lost in December with Transunion and Experian but not Equifax!!! The removed account had also bumped my score with Transunion and Experian but not with Equifax!!!! Frustrated at this point, I called Equifax, and they gave me the same run around every other reviewer is mentioning. They asked me these identity questions that honestly did not apply to me so they could not identify me. I was told to fax or mail identification along with a letter to get access to my report & score. I only wanted to know why that could possibly happen when there's positive information being updated on the account. They continued to tell me they could not identify me so they couldn't provide me with any information.
It honestly sounded extremely scripted-- as if I were talking to a darn robot, and as if these situations had always occurred. Now I see that there are thousands having these same exact issues primarily with Equifax. I just think it's super strange that both Transunion and Equifax uses the same scoring system; yet, the actual scores generated are extremely different. I am hoping to purchase a home before the year is out but I am really losing hope because of Equifax. Something is really off about this company or their system. This is by far the worse company I've ever had to deal with! I'd really like to sue the crap out of Equifax-- solely on the fact that I am also being denied certain cards because of their system not updating! They honestly need to really be looked into and put out of business the way they're destroying/hindering people's lives.

So about 3 weeks ago I had 5 collections showing as open, all medical collections, on all 3 reports I paid those 5 collections off at that time to the original creditor. As of last week TransUnion and Experian have removed them all. Excellent, faster than I could imagine. Equifax, however, has not. I went through the dispute process which I can only do one at a time. Did not help. I have tried on several occasions to log in to their website. To only find it always tells me I can't log in at this time. Please call customer service.
Today I finally called customer service to be put on hold. I could hear their music then it went silence. I said hello a few times. Nothing happened. Said hello a few more times. Still nothing that I said, "You must be on mute because I can't hear you," and then it went to a customer service survey on how they did which I of course said did nothing because I talk to nobody. Call back again. Finally was able to talk to somebody. They told me with an open account when it's paid it'll stay there for 10 years and I did but that is incorrect because the other 2 agencies have already removed them from my reports and the response was, "That's not how we work here. We are different than the other 2."
So I ask what can I do to expedite this since they were open collections accounts that have been paid off and by law should be removed. They stated they are currently having a system outage and there's nothing they can do until their outage is over and that I can call back and ask the same questions at another date. Now I don't want to disparage any culture whatsoever. I am sure there are plenty of fine call centers overseas but when we are dealing with our credit that is a factor in our lives and how we live them and within the agency that has already been hacked before. Would it not make sense that these call centers be located in the homeland of the country that is calling them. To me it just seems it would be more secure if the call center for Equifax would be in the United States or at least in North America.

First, Equifax got security breached and compromised millions of people's information and now they're unusable as a credit agency. And yet we consumers are required to use them to get credit. I am about to lose the opportunity to buy a house for the 2nd time because of this company. They have my last name incorrect and I have been disputing since July, sent documents by certified mail, uploaded them and since November I have disputed the same thing 5 times with same result. The bank can not get a credit report from them because of the name discrepancy. Also I have disputed my address several times and even with the documents they cant seem to get it correct.
Calling their customer service all out of US is a joke. They all say the same thing. Sound like robots and refuse to transfer calls to upper management. Playing with people's dreams is what they do. My last attempt was today. If it does not get fixed I will lose the opportunity once again to buy a house. All because how incompetent this company is. No matter what number I call I get the same employees in Philippines or India not sure and is not their fault but the company that has a mediocre way of serving their clients.

I usually do not take time to do reviews, but this interaction was so pathetic that it warrants a truthful review. I have a credit freeze across the board because my info was compromised in the 2017 Equifax data breach. I want to refinance a mortgage so needed to temporarily unfreeze the 3 large credit bureaus. Transunion and Experian were clear, straightforward and both successful online. Excellent job - just the way it should be.
Equifax on the other hand, was awful, unable to login online, then unable to utilize password help - both were "unable to process my request at this time", called the Equifax phone number, attempted the "automated" temporary lift of credit freeze - what a disaster that was, rather unclear questions and answer choices about "information contained in my credit report". I answered one of the questions incorrectly? Requested to speak to an agent. She was very pleasant but not too helpful. She informed me that my account was now locked because of the automated "help". She offered to walk me through the online login but subsequently informed me that the "online login" was also locked and I would not be able to use the 2 remaining login attempts.
Remaining options: mail documentation and a written request, which will be "processed in a timely manner" - 7 to 10 business days or fax for a processing time of 5 business days. I requested that our recorded conversation be forwarded to the company CEO. Read the other reviews. This company apparently has not improved operations one bit from the days of their avoidable data breach except perhaps to improve their CYA policies. It is infuriating that a profiteering company can collect and sell my data without my permission, then not protect that data from theft. On top of that, why do they remain in a position to then impede the business that I need to conduct.
Kudos to Transunion and Experian - 5 stars. I only gave Equifax a one star because a ZERO was not available. FYI - you cannot signup for Medicare or Social Security Retirement online if you have a credit freeze. You have to make an in person appointment to create an account. Thank you Equifax - the company that according to 2017 news stories, could have proactively avoided a massive data breach by simply installing the freely available Apache Web-server security patches. Google it, the former resigned CEO walked away with 70 million dollars. Good luck to everyone one of the 140 million data breached people that are forced to deal with Equifax.

My Equifax credit report has been frozen since 2007. I went online to open an account that I could manage myself. It said they could not verify me. I then went to the phone. After answering usual question it went to a new set of questions. Do I have any monthly loan payments - answer - no. Next question, how much are monthly payments - answer - none of the above. Next question, who is loan with - answer - none of the above. Last question was about a mortgage - I don't have a mortgage.
Someone with a difficult to understand accent told me I would have to FAX verification info, SS card, driver's license. So I left my house, one of the few times during COVID, and faxed it. The customer 'service' agent told me I would get a response within 30 days BY MAIL. It is 2020, almost 2021. My mailbox is more available to hackers than my computer accounts!

We are all busy. I have a few rental units I rent and need to contact Equifax for various reasons (ie. Check on an applicants credit worthiness). I have spent hours trying to reach a HUMAN or find a way to get to the information through their website but each number I call has an Auto attendant which directs me to another number, and another and then another. Equifax has more numbers than people it seems. This company makes it so difficult to reach anyone to make an enquiry of any kind. Why both using them at all? I could not understand their "English" and asked to be transferred to USA. They refused twice. I told the company that I was buying from to use Transunion because they are easier to deal with. Unfortunately they had a contract with Equifax so the "buy" fell through. The seller was very unhappy and I had to start all over to find the same item elsewhere.

I would rate this company at < 1 if it were possible. Every time I need to unfreeze my credit for something, they make it extremely difficult. The other two agencies are wonderful. Logging on to their sites and using their systems is a breeze. For some reason Equifax rejects my passwords and prompts me to call customer service; which by the way is a call service in India, which means you'll be speaking to someone reading a script who can't do a thing to help you. If this sort of thing only happened once, I would understand, but it happens every time. If you are trying to buy a house, this is a major setback.
Here is my complaint!!! Why can't these guys operate with a real customer service department that can solve problems? At the end of the very frustrating phone call, you are presented with two options. You can send a letter, or you can send a fax. Both of these options take 5 business days, which is more like 10 calendar days. There isn't a single person you can speak with for help. It is a real shame that Equifax is able to hijack our credit information and offer little to no assistance with resolution...very disappointing organization.

In applying for a mortgage refinance, I had to remove a security freeze with the 3 reporting agencies. There was no problem with TransUnion and Experian. Their customer service - telephone for TransUnion and website for Experian - worked well. The freeze was lifted in a manner of minutes. This complaint involves Equifax for not having adequate customer service. To this date, weeks after my request, the freeze has not been lifted which resulted in my lender not gaining access to my credit history from Equifax and has placed my loan application in jeopardy. And a potential financial liability. The fault is Equifax's totally dysfunctional customer-service system. Essentially, they have no customer service.
First, I tried dialing into their automated system. There are 4 security questions asked which I correctly entered into their numerical system. The system repeats the numbers so I knew that I had made no mistakes. Then it asks for a pin that was never requested by me or given to me. So since I did not have the pin the system connects - eventually - to a CSR. The representative stated he could not help me because "the system cannot verify your identity." So I asked, "How, after answering all the information correctly, we can verify my ID?" The representative said there was no way he could help me, and so I would have to submit a request by mail. He informed me that would take several weeks, maybe a month.
I explained that I had an interest-rate lock on my mortgage application that I would lose if my credit could not be unfroze. He just kept repeating the endless loop about "the system cannot verify your identity." I replied that I was willing to provide any information needed for this purpose. He again stated "the system cannot verify your identity." I insisted on speaking to a supervisor. Again he repeated the same computer generated message. Finally, he connected me to a “supervisor(?)” The identical conversation ensued that I had had with the first CSR. In frustration I insisted on speaking to an actual supervisor. I was connected with Dinna. She repeated the exact same message and stated there was no way a human being could assist me because of "the system."
I was totally frustrated by this experience - especially after the other two credit agencies had so easily assisted me. I called my lender to explain the situation, and he informed that I would absolutely need all 3 of my credit info unfrozen. He suggested that I try their website. The experience was just as infuriating. After I provided all the information correctly, the programmed response was that I needed to fax or mail in some identity info. A fax number was provided on the website. I faxed the required info to Equifax. Attached to my fax request was a copy of my FL driver's license, and a copy of my monthly mortgage information confirming my address. I asked to "please expedite" due to interest rate situation.
Three week after my fax, I received a form letter from Equifax asking me to send in the same information in a mailed letter. They gave no explanation why they had not accepted the information that I had already provided in the fax. In again attempting to remove Equifax's obstruction, I again tried to get assistance from customer service. Both times the agents hung up on me without explanation. Equifax has a totally anti-consumer CS system. It may have cost me a favorable mortgage loan. I feel their operation deserves to be shutdown and prevented from damaging other consumers.

I have been fighting with Equifax for nearly 3 YEARS to gain access to my online credit report and their online dispute system. There are several derogatory marks on my Equifax report that are from old medical bills, which should NOT be on there because they were paid by my insurance, which I have full proof of. However, I have NOT been able to access either my Equifax credit report or their online dispute system in the nearly 3 years that I have been trying so that I can dispute these items to have them removed. Out of the 3 credit bureaus, my lowest score, by a landslide, is with Equifax because of all the inaccuracies. I have tried SNAIL MAILING my dispute to them on several occasions over the last 3 years and I have never even so much as received an ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of receipt of my dispute.
One time after I mailed my dispute, they just mailed me a copy of my credit report! That is NOT what I needed! I can only view my Equifax report via Credit Karma, but I cannot dispute anything because that needs to be done directly through the Equifax website, but guess what? I can't do that because it NEVER works!!! I can't even access my credit report on their website! Every single time I try to access either my credit report or their online dispute center, I get the message, "We are unable to process your request." I have CALLED Equifax on the phone multiple times, only to get some foreign idiot who just tells me to mail my dispute. Um...HELLO?!?! I have already done that MULTIPLE times with absolutely NO response whatsoever!
I have reported Equifax to the CFPB, but that was a complete and total waste of my time as nothing ever came of that. I finally reported them to my state's Attorney General Consumer Credit Protection Bureau, but they were totally useless as well. It is a CONSUMER'S RIGHT to have FULL ACCESS to their credit reports with ALL THREE bureaus and ALSO have full access to be able to dispute any inaccuracies and discrepancies on their consumer credit report. I have NEVER had a single problem with Experian or Transunion and my scores with them are substantially higher than my score with Equifax (by nearly 100 points), all because these people are criminals who are doing nothing but stonewalling my access to my credit report and their online dispute system.
If I want to see my Equifax report, I have to go through Credit Karma, but whenever I try to dispute any items, it just directs me right to the Equifax website, where I constantly get the previously mentioned error. My wife and I are planning to purchase a new home within the next year to year and a half, but these frauds at Equifax are preventing that from happening until I can get some of these inaccuracies removed from my credit report with their bureau. My next step is going to be legal action.

Every time I call Equifax to temporarily lift my credit freeze it takes an hour (Experian and TransUnion take about 2 minutes). Equifax asks a bunch of secondary questions from a decade ago, and many of them don't pertain to me (e.g. Who did I have a car loan with in 2010? I pay cash for all of my vehicles?!), then tells you that you are wrong. They then ask you to fax (who has a fax?) information, or mail a copy of your social security card and drivers license. (Who is going to MAIL those sensitive documents?!) No email option, no ability to update your data.
The kicker is that I also have an account set up on the website which claims you can handle it there, but even after authenticating who I am it says I must call the 800 number to handle. I just spent 30 minutes on hold and another 30 minutes trying to work through a temporary lift - again - unsuccessfully. The closed credit card account still had a balance on it, but it stopped impacting my credit and my credit was building up until the time that I made a mistake of filing a dispute on Equifax's website. After filing my dispute, the Creditor confirmed that I had already paid off the balance. However, after filing this dispute Equifax dropped my credit score by 11 points and a week after dropped my credit score again by another 18 points. When I called them I said I only have one collections on my credit. I paid off all 10 of them within a year. Why hasn't my Equifax moved since March when the government shutdown. They have no answers. They are the only one that has not moved. Experian moved and Transunion moved. Equifax seemed to be damaging my credit. I think I might have to sue them.

I answered all security questions but operator was not able to access my info to correct wrong info on my report. Asked for a supervisor and was told because of Covid19 Equifax has LESS offices open. So a normal employee can work but having a supervisor is somehow more dangerous? I was repeatedly told that I was not able to access my own credit information because Equifax was (concerned) with my safety! Keep in mind Equifax released MILLIONS of their customers credit information to farcical entities (criminal organizations) keeping my credit safe for these criminals to see and use while locking me out of my own information! I logged into Transunion, and did the unfreeze, no problem. I logged into Experian and did the unfreeze, no problem.
When I attempted to log into the Equifax page, problem. It didn't recognize any of my information, so I called the customer care number. My call dropped, twice. When I finally got connected, it was an automated system. For 17 minutes, I had to wait on a barely audible robotic voice to offer options that had nothing to do with temporarily removing a freeze or to speak with a representative. I finally selected 0 and a rep came on. The moment she asked for my SSN# the automated voice came back on asking me to take a survey, then the line dropped. Of course, I called back and sat through the robotic voice, but this time, it asked me to answer 4 questions. I could barely understand the questions, but I answered them.
Finally, it said, connecting me to a rep. A male rep comes on the line, ask me for my SSN# and address. Once I gave it, he told me that I missed two questions and that I had to fax over my driver's license and my social security card, or my W-2. When I asked him, what two questions did I miss, he refused to provide me any information. He just read me the fax number and then proceeded to say, once they get my information, give them 5-7 days to get back to me. Let's just say, if I could cancel Equifax, I would because that experience, I wouldn't wish on my enemy. By the time I returned to the dealership, the salesperson told me they had the information they needed, and I drove home in my new car. But they were saying that the $5 charge bumped me up into a higher usage percentage, going from 9% to 10%. Even with the new math 286.58 + $5.00 is 291.58 and is NOT 10% of $3000.00.
When I called and talked to a representative they tried to blame the figures and subsequent charge on the Credit Karma model for the increase. I flatly told her that Credit Karma uses the numbers/info that you provide them and refused to acknowledge who the entry was done by, someone at their agency or Lowe's. Little bit of background information first... I've been in the process of looking for a new home and being approved for a mortgage. As of three days ago, my credit score through Equifax was at 708, but when I checked this morning it had dropped by 58 points! Naturally I was concerned and curious as to why it dropped by this much since all my credit accounts are in good standing and been paid on time for the last 3 years. I decided to call Equifax and this is where my real nightmares began!
The first representative I spoke to acted as if she didn't understand why I was concerned about the drop in my credit score and could not provide me with a concrete reason as to why my score had dropped by so many points. To make matters worse, she decided to hang up on me before she even helped me with my question. So of course I became frustrated but decided to call back and give them another try. I went through the process of calling and explaining my situation to a different representative.
The second representative was just as helpful, if not less, than the first. He also could not give me a concrete reason as to WHY my score had dropped by so many points. He just kept repeating "all your accounts are in good standing" and "please hold." To make matters even worse, he just continued to give me advice about things I already knew like "you can build your credit back up by signing a mortgage and paying it on time" or "you could open more lines of credit through a bank or department stores." I continued to explain to him that would take time and that would not help me solve the mystery as to why my credit score dropped for no apparent reason. With no concrete answer, the second representative also hung up on me.
Now being rather heated and not wanting to give Equifax a win, I decided to call one more time. After putting in all my personal information for a THIRD time and going on two hours of being on the phone with this crooked institution, I talked to another representative. She began by asking me for ALL the personal information I had just typed in through the automated system (first & last name, social security number, address, & even date of birth) which was a huge red flag to me. During the time I was on the phone with the third representative, she had her t.v. up so loud in the background that I could barely hear her.
The call finally ended after another 45 minutes and STILL no concrete explanation as to why my credit score dropped by so many points AND I was left with the feeling that now my identity may have been stolen. I can't believe these people have control over people's financial well-being when they can't even tell you how they calculate the credit score they give you. Makes you think it's all make-believe and just to keep people financially dependent on this large, crooked institutions...

I will try to keep the frustration out of the content of this experience. I just called Equifax at 1866-349-5191 #5. This is the number I was transferred to regarding an issue of my wallet being stolen with my CC's in it. All I wanted to do was let them know that although I froze my 3 Credit Bureau Reports, I did it after there was an arrest and my wallet recovered and that there may have been some inquiries on my report that were made and were not mine. The person on the line validated that I was "me" by asking social security number, address, and a few other questions. Unfortunately, she had five more questions regarding loans and credit cards from the past.
I had to validate the exact credit card or loan that appeared on her screen in 2018. I could not because I have not had loans since 2018 (just student loans and I validated those as well)... I currently own only two credit cards and thank goodness because I am "sheltered in" without employment since March 29th. However my wallet was stolen from inside my car in April and all I simply needed was to tell this person that inquiries on my report in April, were not mine. I was willing to provide past addresses, I gave her four or five different credit cards that I remembered having in 2018, I gave her the name of the loans I had in 2018. However, she still said it was not enough and that I did not name the one credit card she needed to hear.
I asked her if she was reading a script and she said no. I asked if she could tell me the options and I would choose the correct credit card and she said no. She ended up telling me she could not help me or ask me other questions and therefore whatever was on my report I would have to either send in a copy of my Driver's License (which I clearly told her was stolen and I had a police file report number if she needed it, as it was in my wallet and I cannot get a new one issued during Covid19). It was an incredibly exhausting experience, I will not call Equifax again to get help because it left me feeling powerless.

I filed a dispute with Equifax on 04/02 in regards to an account that should no longer report and old late pays I believed to be erroneous. I filed similar disputes with Experian and Transunion and they promptly completed my requests. Equifax updated the dispute on 04/29 and added a 90 day late in March to an account that was closed and paid 0 balance in 2015. I was alerted by my credit service myFICO and my Equifax score dropped 44 points per their alert. I have called Equifax numerous times to resolve the issue. I have had long hold times and a long process on each call to have my information validated and explain the issue from the beginning over and over again.
Their call center help associates all speak English but with heavy accents so I had to have a lot of their responses repeated to me several times to comprehend their response. They are firm gatekeepers and make it difficult to escalate to a supervisor. They do not listen and provide scripted responses. One associate closed out the call without my permission. None of them understood that the issue was not the creditor, it was Equifax, even after I told them I spoke with the creditor and they confirmed verbally and in writing they have not reported on the account since 2015. I also pulled my other two bureau reports and they are still reporting the old account but no 2020 late pays. The associates each refused to listen to me and told me to take it up with the creditor.
I was able to push enough on two calls to get to two people that listened and promised to help. On the one call they put me on hold off and on while they tried to delete the late pays. After an hour they were confident it was fixed. I checked my Equifax credit report in 24 hours and the account now shows 120 days late instead of 90. I called back several times and was shot down until a nice guy answered and he immediately transferred me.
Went through the same process again and was told to wait 48 hours to check my report. I waited the 48 hours and checked again and the 120 late for March 2020 was still there. I called back and pushed to get a supervisor again. She kept repeating same script as her employee and would not listen. I told her I needed her entire name and title as I was documenting for further escalation. She would only give her first name but told me her title was Escalation Manager. Since she just kept repeating that Equifax does not add or delete information which I know to be untrue since Equifax added it and then employees tried to delete it but made it worse, I asked to speak to her supervisor. She at first refused but then agreed after I took down her first name and title.
The higher supervisor got on after I was on hold again for another 10 minutes which I must also emphasize is not consumer friendly. They are only open 9-5 EST Monday-Friday and calls last at least an hour forcing people to take time off of work to resolve which is a wasted personal day since their people are so poorly trained and unwilling to provide assistance. The next higher supervisor repeated the script again and sent me back to the creditor. I have filed a complaint with the Florida Attorney General and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. With the CFPB complaint I was able to upload the creditor letter proving it is Equifax’s error. I am under contract for a home loan and am basically being held financial hostage by Equifax as my score dropped substantially and a recent 120 day late could result in a denial.
Equifax completed the investigation and reported the account closed and paid as of August 2015 and show the 2020 late pay as accurate in their own letter. I have documented very well and now even have documentation in writing from Equifax showing their gross negligence. All they allowed me to do earlier last week is to issue another dispute. Their last one took nearly 40 days and resulted in the 120 day late I have now for 2020. They also just reported a credit card I have open and active as closed by consumer. They are so dysfunctional I can only see it as financial services malpractice. My next step is to retain legal counsel as I have exhausted other options and may lose the house.

To restore my credit to my rolling average score of 760 I had for 20 years. Whats transpired is not short of comical how one company could be so inconsistent offer such poor service have my Data breached and caused additional stuff to get reported which is now used to verify and account I can no longer access, and have jumped through the fax hell and mail hell the put people through..
This clueless, utterly useless, waste of space has not figured out that the cherished Fax they ask you to send to verify one's information, does not work and provides illegible pictures making verification hell. I placed a security freeze on my Equifax credit file 5+ years ago. If I remember correctly I paid a fee of around $15 to have lifetime access to be able to place and lift security freezes as I see fit. Exactly like SO MANY OTHERS here at ConsumerAffairs, I have been unable to log into the MyEquifax account for over a year. I have called Equifax many times, always waiting patiently on hold until I am able to speak with one of their partial-English-speaking representatives (I have spent HOURS AND HOURS on hold with them). I have "supposedly" had my problem elevated to their IT department on multiple occasions in an attempt to have my problem solved, ALWAYS TO NO AVAIL!
This is not only a real problem for myself, but obviously for MANY others. Some ambitious attorney needs to start a class action lawsuit against the incompetent bastards at Equifax. Not only did they compromise the security of MILLIONS of people several years ago when their system was breached, but their continued incompetence makes it impossible for the consumer to manage their own credit bureau data. Additionally, I have credit freezes on my credit bureaus at Experian and Transunion, and their systems work flawlessly.

Called back 24 hours later "system is 'updating', call back in an hour or so". Checked online for others experiencing same problem, have found many consumer flag sites dating back A WEEK AGO with the same issues. So our credit has been hijacked for over a week?!! Now on hold yet again for a "supervisor". Hoping that she will at least speak English well enough to give me some straight answers rather than the garbled rote responses I am getting from the grunts. Only get a robot that says to use the website, fax or mail a letter. I tried typing a letter with copies of ID and faxed it in. Their fax machine does not answer. I tried sending the letter in via US Mail. I got a letter back confirming that the freeze had been lifted. But it hasn't. The lender told me they could not get it. Equifax says my credit score is 0. The woman tells me the system is down and to call back in 30 minutes. I protest that I was told on this very call that they close at 5pm EST. She said no, they're open until 6PM EST. I call back and suffer once again through all the BS automated questions to get on hold for a human, but I'm now told by an automated voice that they are indeed, closed. Their system says if you remain on the line after your call, you can participate in a survey. Nope. Their system hangs up on you. TransUnion and Experian were both cake walks to unfreeze my accounts. I’ve been trying to remove a freeze with Equifax. The customer service rep asks a ton of questions to authenticate you are who you say you are before they can help with your reason for calling. First of all they ask a ton of questions, many very old, over 20 years old. After being on hold for 30 minutes before reaching a human being, I answered all their questions only to find out I failed to answer them correctly so they said and therefore they couldn’t help me. I asked to speak with a manager and hung up after being on hold another 30 minutes.
The next day, I called armed with a copy of my credit report so I could answer their asinine questions correctly only to find out so they say, I didn’t answer them correctly therefore they are unable to help me. What a horrible experience. So I am unable to remove the freeze on my report with them even though I definitely answered them correctly since I was reading the answers off my credit report!! I didn’t have any problems removing the freeze with Experian and Transunion. It was a breeze.

I don't remember if I had a store cc and how much I paid from years ago. The questions were ridiculous. Asked to speak to manager who was no better with trying to help verify my identity. Last week my husband received a letter stating he needed to confirm his credit monitoring service so he could qualify for the cash payout (initially told would be $125, now told will be less). He went online and confirmed his without issue. Anticipating I would receive a letter also, I logged in but got a message that said my confirmation deadline had expired. What??? I contacted customer service to see why this would be, given that our claims were filed on the same day. The answer I received was that they had contacted me by email and since I never responded, it was essentially my fault and there was nothing more for them to do - the message could have gone into my spam folder and I should check with my internet provider. I thanked them for their prompt response and expressed concern about the inconsistencies in their communication methods.
I got another very timely response letting me know that they emailed my husband also but his message was returned as invalid for some reason, so that's why he received a letter (nearly 2 months later). Apparently because my email address was "valid," they were under no obligation to send me a letter. Even though the email was not sent with a read receipt request confirming that it was read, they technically met their obligation, so good job by them. Equifax is reporting inaccurate information without adequately investing disputes of the erroneous reports. The multiple choice selections are not inclusive enough to aptly dispute errors outside those limited choices. There is no adequate space to present or explain factual supportive information on line. The telephone experience requires dogged determination to connect to a representative to present evidentiary information. After a prolonged wait (more than 10 - 15 min), the phone disengages, prompting another desperate attempt to reach someone. After several attempts to reach someone, hours pass with no productive engagement. Further, the attempts were to correct information that I have evidence from the debt purchaser that knowingly reported the misinformation. Equifax should require verifiable documentation before reporting negative information.

No one really likes credit agencies right?!? You make some mistakes and then your life is hell for years afterward, especially if you need to buy anything like a home or vehicle. But Equifax is something else! It doesn't appear to be a new issue that Equifax historically gives people the lowest credit scores. I've researched this, and time and again people are taking to the internet to write stories of how the Equifax score is substantially lower than scores with Experian or Transunion; sometimes up to 70 points lower. No one can really seem to figure this out and with so many bad reviews and comments all over the internet, it's amazing to me the company is making some changes, especially after their data breach. My experience is no different. My Equifax score is 55 points lower than with Experian or Transunion. They aren't reporting open accounts correctly.
I try to file a dispute online 3 TIMES! Each time takes about 20 min, and each time I get to the "submit" button I get a message that their system is down. So the system was up when you made me type in all the info you wanted, but down only when I try and submit??? Hence the phone calls to customer service in India where you are taken through a 25 min verification process that includes telling them every account you've ever had in your entire life, the balance, when it was opened/closed, etc etc. Then after that you have to try and painfully walk through the dispute process with someone who barely speaks English. I just did this, and about a week later my Equifax score went DOWN 23 points. Weird because my Experian and Transunion scores both increased. So the 55 point difference remains. EQUIFAX IS CRAP. GET RID OF THEM.

Contacted Equifax, Experian and Trans Union all separately to remove a negative factor on my otherwise perfect credit report that was made in error. Three weekly check-in calls to Equifax they had no information to share, then an email to link stating update not deletion two days short of their 30 day allowed time frame. Over two hours on the phone with the dispute department over how they will not delete the issue on report because the creditor has not contacted them over dispute. Questioned if confirmation from debt owner that it was made in error would suffice to have item deleted from report..
I was then transferred to a supervisor after informing the individual that the confirmation for error and authorization for deletion from debt owner was attached to the original dispute submission. At this point I spent the last 45 minutes of my phone call debating with the supervisor about how a confirmation letter/number from the debt owner was not sufficient proof for Equifax or how the fact that the debt owner never replied to their dispute inquiry merited an update to paid rather than deletion over confirmed deletion request from debt owner and uncomfortable debt verification that was then not confirmed by debt owner.
Experian and Trans Union both had investigated my dispute and had it removed within two weeks of submission meanwhile Equifax drops my 801 score to somewhere in the 600s (only one active line of credit for 4 years, 3 lines 4-10 years ago thus the huge drop). I hope the two 800+ scored from Experian and Trans Union float the Equifax clunker of a score or it will will cost me a boatload on my next mortgage. First of all Equifax is absolutely the worst credit bureau to have business with. It took me several months to proof my identity and receive a free annual credit report. 1. The first attempt was online. I entered all required information and answered verification messages, but the system displayed the message, “Online Delivery Unavailable” and information about how to request the report by mail.
2. On the next day I called Equifax customer service and was advised to FAX or MAIL a copy of my SSN card and ID. What year is it?! I faxed the documents as advised anyway. A week or so later, I called Equifax customer service again and was informed that the faxed documents were received but illegible. Later, I received a letter in the mail from Equifax telling me that they were unable to locate my credit file in their database and I needed to provide two items of verification. Moreover, the letter stated that SSN card with a note “Work Permit Only” is not a valid proof of SSN, but W-2 is! They literally say that SSN card with such a note issued by the US government is not a valid document! I mailed the documents as they requested. The letter also listed two addressed where to mail the documents to and only one turned out to be a correct one!
3. Later, I called Equifax customer service twice and spoke with two representatives and a supervisor to confirm that the mailed documents were received. The first representative informed me that the documents were not in the system and I was advised to send the documents again! The next day I called again and another representative informed me that the documents were received, but they were not uploaded into the system. Since the explanations I was given were unclear and confusing, I requested to speak with a supervisor. The supervisor did not provide any clear answers either. During both calls I insisted that they start an investigation to look for my mail, since it had my very sensitive personal information in it, and since the USPS tracking information showed that the mail had been delivered.
EQUIFAX LOSES A MAIL WITH YOUR VERY SENSITIVE PERSONAL INFORMATION AND DOESN'T EVEN BOTHER TO SEARCH FOR IT! It also appears that Equifax customer service representatives as mostly located in India which made it additionally insecure since you have to tell them your SSN and most of the time it’s very hard to hear what they say or explain. I myself immigrated to the US, but even I suffer when I have to deal with very thick accents when I try to speak about very important business.
4. Several days later I received another letter in the mail from Equifax stating that Equifax needed additional information again to verify my identity and address.Next, I tried to request my annual credit report online again, and I was asked to answer four verification questions about information on my credit report. However, not a single question applied to me. I had to answer “None of the above” to each question. The system then showed a message explaining that I must request a credit report by mail.
5. My last attempt was before I I was going to file a complaint against them with Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and maybe later hire an attorney was to mail my documents for the final time. I wrote an explanatory letter with details of my previous attempts to receive a free annual credit report and sent it with other documents. I informed them that I have all the correspondence I sent to them and received from them, and I also reminded them that they must be compliant with the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Finally, after months of stress and despair I received my free annual credit report. It looked like Equifax did not have neither my previous address nor current address on the file since both addresses had a remark "Reported: date I last mailed the documents".
In comparison, I was able to request and see my free annual credit report online with TransUnion and Experian with no hassle or any trouble. So far, I find TransUnion the best to work with, Experian is also all right, but Equifax is the worst of the worst! Also, when my husband passed away, I mailed to all their credit bureaus a letter about his passing and a copy of death certificate. I called Equifax several times, verifying my personal information each call including SSN. However after they verify my information they refuse to proceed with helping me place a credit freeze. I placed a credit freeze with the other 2 bureaus online without any issues. Equifax has been persistent in requesting I use the postal system & mail in a copy of my DL, SSN, address, copy of a utility bill maybe other stuff. They want me to use US Postal System who by the way loses mail on a regular basis. This company is absolutely useless. They a supervisor was suppose to call me this morning at 9am CST. No call from Equifax this morning. Useless useless useless. Who else would be trying to freeze my credit? Anybody know who it is? I was attempting to refreeze my records but cannot contact Equifax via phone, website or email. Called 5 different phones numbers, answered all the identification and security questions asked by the automated system (no way to talk to a human being of course) but the automated system cannot verify me then suggests to go the the Equifax website to contact them. Go to the myequifax.com website to log in and send a message, login with the correct user ID and password and it tells me to call one of the 5 phone numbers I previously used.
Icing on the cake was looked up on Google what phone number to use to talk to a honest to God live person, tried it and after 30 seconds it hangs up on you. I am in an unending cycle and cannot accomplish my goal - TO TALK TO AN EMPLOYEE OF EQUIFAX! I'm not in the habit of bashing companies, but this is ridiculous. I currently have a freeze on my credit report with this company, but needed to release it this week since I'm shopping for a new car. The website will not function, and tells me to call an 800 number. No luck in contacting them through that. A little supplemental digging on Google showed another number, where I spoke with a customer service rep, who was equally unable to access my account online. I asked to speak to a supervisor, who told me the same story. The only two alternatives through them was a) wait until the website was back up, and they would notify me via email, or b) mail or fax in my information and wait for an unfreeze. I do not have fax at my disposal right now, so in order to use this system, I'd have to wait more than 10 days for the report, which is completely unacceptable in this situation.
I'm extremely frustrated, and while I see several vehicles online that would fit my needs and in my price range, I can't do a thing about it, because my credit report is being held hostage. Let's just say that after this experience is resolved, I will more than likely closing my account with Equifax and looking for a better alternative that won't have this kind of disaster waiting in the wings.

The 4 CS people said no reports go to Thailand. One CS person did finally give me a confirmation number and said it's in the mail. It's already 10 days overdue now!
Annualcreditreport.com doesn't work for foreign IP numbers so you must plead and beg to Equifax for your report. I gave them 7 items of data and all were quite readable by Equifax. One CS person told me to resend them all again. Because I choose my time here in Thailand to help young underprivileged boys and girls get a good education and qualify for college, Equifax and annualcreditreport.com discriminate against me. Then in the first week of August 2019, I was alerted by all 3 major credit bureaus than my score dropped from 790 to 605 because Macy's reported that I was "2 months overdue" causing 2 late payments at this point of time. I had my Macy's credit card since 1974 and always paid my card off monthly during the 45 years I have had them buying thousands of dollars from them over that time period. I called Macy's, and it took time to talk to the right person there concerning the "fraudulent" charge and reporting me to the credit bureaus undercover before I knew of anything of this situation. Macy's acknowledged the $42 charge was in error, apologized and removed the $42 amount and "2 late payments". Transunion and Equifax sent back letters with a list of required documents WITHOUT telling me what was actually missing in my application. Experian - no problem, they accepted my documents. Transunion - no problem, I missed something and I spoke with a very helpful woman who was ACTUALLY in the United States who could pull up what I'd already sent in and tell me what was missing.
Equifax - after being jerked around for about a week and spending way too much time on hold, I finally reached the end. Another foreign representative who did not understand what I was asking. He explained about 5 times what documents I needed to send in and that they don't save anything from applications, not even a note of record, so they actually had no way of telling me what I missed.
