They are taking the benefit to scare people about their credit or financial reports. When people are stressed, they offer monthly plans to get out of their stress. If people do not accept their offers to pay them monthly. They put them in trouble i.e. putting the wrong information into their account or putting it in their file for inquiry. It's all going to harass the people.

Despite reaching out to Equifax for assistance with a credit-related issue, their customer support was shockingly unhelpful. It seemed like the representatives were either poorly trained or simply uninterested in resolving customer concerns. I encountered a complete lack of communication and responsiveness, making it nearly impossible to get a straight answer or any assistance with my credit problem. It's disheartening when a company, especially one dealing with such crucial financial matters, fails to prioritize effective customer support.

I had a very terrible experience speaking with a "Supervisor" after speaking with an agent. Today at 12:25 p.m. The manager's tone was curt and rude, after the discovering the misspelling on my information was the fault of an agent. He then started trying to gaslight me telling me that the mistake was made because of me, lied and said they didn't received my documents and that nothing was sent even though the agent already confirmed it was received and I had confirmation of the sending and delivery, telling me not to point fingers at them, after telling me that he cannot control how I feel about the issue.
After telling him that I felt his tone was very rude and that as a supervisor he should be trying to resolve the issues, he continuously talked over me and cut me off as I was speaking and then he rudely hung up on me. Very poor customer service and no way to complain at Equifax's actual website. Also why are these jobs handling something as sensitive as credit and Social Security numbers outsourced outside of the US? It is counterproductive to "security".

I was having an issue with a customer service representative, who didn’t want to help me file a dispute properly. I very calmly asked for a supervisor and she put me on hold for about 20 minutes then came back and said, "There’s no supervisors working right now." That’s the craziest experience I think I’ve ever had from a company that should be so reputable for telling the truth such as them.

I am attempting to finance an HVAC unit through Alabama Power Smart Financing. I received an instant rejection notification....WHY? I contacted Equifax and was told that there was a hold on the account. That was removed, we ran it again. It still looked like I had a freeze on the account. I did not. This went on all last week. Finally got a representative from Smart Financing to contact Equifax. They explained that they couldn't see my credit report AT ALL. Palo from Equifax stated it had to be an error on their end and it would be fix within 24 hours. He would e-mail me when they had it corrected. LIE! I never heard from Palo and the situation hasn't changed. I call today and Stacy keeps talking to me as if I'm a child. Why is this so hard for them? Isn't this their job? I'm fed up. There needs to be a better system.

Equifax's decision to disclose my personal information to individuals who subsequently opened accounts in my name is **deeply troubling**. What is even more **disconcerting** is that there seemed to be a lack of oversight, as no red flags were raised to these individuals, despite the fact that they has already open a First Premier Bank credit cards in my name. 3 capital one cards In my name and many other accounts.
This situation escalated to the point where multiple credit cards were opened in my name, resulting in a **severely negative impact** on my credit score. It is important to note that I have always been cautious about applying for credit, reserving it as a last resort for significant financial matters such as home loans. Regrettably, when the time came for me to refinance my house and secure its future, I discovered that my credit had been **severely compromised**.
The extensive stress and emotional distress caused by this situation cannot be **overstated**. I was forced to dedicate numerous hours to rectifying the damage inflicted upon my credit and ultimately had to resort to filing for bankruptcy to protect my home. The resolution offered by Equifax, promising to make amends, proved to be **inadequate and even insulting**. A mere $5 compensation is a **slap in the face**, considering the magnitude of the harm caused. The apparent lack of accountability is **deeply frustrating**, especially when compared to the legal professionals who appear to have benefited substantially from the settlement, while individuals like myself received an inconsequential sum.
Since this incident, my credit score has struggled to recover, and the time and effort spent rectifying the damage has been nothing short of **exasperating**. It is difficult to comprehend how those responsible for this situation can rest easy at night. I beg for strict actions to stop these people from getting my personal details or using my name for money matters. The carelessness and its results that I have faced are too much to understand. If it wasn't illegal to do what I want to do I would have done it long ago, you people don't understand how difficult this has been in my life and for 5 ** dollars you have got to be kidding me.

In November 2021 my family and left Canada for 5 months during which my credit took a beating. Within ten months I became debt-free and during that time I had no missing or late payments. Early 2023 I lost 10 points for no reason, so I called Equifax and not too long afterwards my points were restored. Mid 2023, I lost 10 points again and so I called, only to be told that I lost the points because I didn't use my credit card for one month. I was upset and told him that that doesn't make sense. He told me if I don't want to lose credit score I need to use my credit card.
However, what got me really upset is the fact that I have lost 19 pts between August and September. I would like to know why but I am getting nowhere with them. I filed a dispute about the matter but to no avail. We live in Ontario and my family and I aren't able to rent because of my credit score. Even though, I never had missing or late payments as it relates to rent; Ontario landlords require credit score and or report. I've had a lot more issues with Equifax that caused undue stress.

The person in the other country couldn't figure it out and said they would escalate the matter and they would get back to me in 7 to 10 days. After 15 days and no news I tried to sign up again. Same error message. I called again and they saw I had been escalate a few weeks ago and we need to do it again. This company is a horribly managed rip off artisan. So I get a credit pull and the company tells me, "Hey you have a negative report for a company on Equifax." I disputed this item, wait 40 days and nothing so I call them. Mind you they go through extensive measures to get you verified to give you your own information. So I call in 3 times to speak to 3 different supervisors. So I say, "Hey this is fraudulent. This shouldn’t be on my account." They all say, "The only thing we can do is dispute this item and you have to call them to get it removed." So I call them. They said they don’t have any signed documents so they have to remove the item on my account. So I tell them, "Yes I’ve already called and disputed the item." They told me they do not have any signature of mine or court documents so they removed all my information from their system. Is there any way you can call them to confirm this so they said they have to receive a letter from them.
I’m like ok but you asked me all these questions to give me information on my account so how do you verify the creditors information is correct to put this on a report. Nobody knows. They all give the same answer the creditor reports it to them. So I say, "We’ll can I call in and say hey this person owes me 2000 and it automatically goes on their account with any evidence that’s it is there’s?" Nobody knows anything.
Finally a supervisor puts me on hold for seems like forever hopeful I would hang up I’m sure. But he proceeds to tell me that the creditor go through a 30 day process through their bank. So I say, "We’ll what proof does your bank have that’s telling you that this belongs to me?" And they say they don’t know so I ask to be connected to their bank to find out and they told me no they don’t have that information. All I can do is dispute this item. Equifax does not protect their customers when it comes to creditors. They will add anything on your account so make sure you keep a close eye on your accounts. Anyone know the information to the banks they go through?

I then called Equifax on 4-17-2023 @ 5:42 pm EST to report my problem and had to answer all their required security questions and then get put on hold and then disconnected. It took 3 calls and 54 minutes to get a person to speak with at Equifax to report my problem. I was told by the Equifax Operator ID # X1S that Equifax would be in touch with me in 10 days about my problem via email.
This is absolutely unacceptable to have to wait 10 days for Equifax to resolve this problem; and for me to have to wait for my credit report that I pay monthly to Equifax. I signed up for monitoring because my wallet was stolen. Equifax was decent enough, had good interface, and helped me understand my score. But I find it's stupid that you really need to get a TransUnion account and an Equifax account to cover all your bases since credit bureaus use different one. My dissatisfaction with Equifax starts with the price which I find is high. After abut 10 months of monitoring I decided I was in clear for identity theft and wanted to cancel my account. However I couldn't do this online which pisses me off. They don't make cancelling easy. So I called in, and they made me jump through hoops to verify me, and then magically offered me a special deal for 50% for 12 months if I kept my account. This also left a bad taste in my month. He should ask me to spell my first & last name and that will figure out my full name got switch between first & last! But he didn't and stated the system could not pull up my file, and I have to submit some sort of document to proof my ID..! I told him that he was so unprofessional and should not work in a call center and that is a shame that Equifax had such unacceptable offshore worker! So, I hung up and call back and got another representative answer my request, this time the new representative asked me to spell my full name and resolved the issue due to their system indicated my last & first were switched around! So, Equifax offshore call center in Philippines a customer representative name Marvin, employee ID #** was an unprofessional and unacceptable worker in his field!

I was forced to use Equifax due to the company I was working for had it as their credit report. Useless report that is accessed from an error prone system which kicks you out with no warning or advice except - "try again". Then, when you get your monthly invoice, you find you have been CHARGED $7+ for each "error". I contacted equifax about this and the "researched" my claim. They said I "ordered incorrectly" and they would only give me a credit for $59 for the $198. OVERCHARGE. That, in a nutshell, is equifax. You do what THEY want, they WILL NOT DO A THING for you.
It took me 3 months just to get them to tell me we had an account with them and discuss my account and what else I could access with my account. 3 months. I guess they have sold enough, why sell more???? They certainly lost me and our company as an account. I see no valid reason to pay a company to treat you like dirt. Claims aren’t being investigated with documents and not timely per their own employee. Then claimed we have to do more to file disputes other ways. Why when they claim to have an online tool? Won’t offer alternative upload like secure email. Won’t update the disputes, asked for government ID (not related at all to the case or charges and they know who I am). Only signed up because I was trying to buy a cell phone that required a credit check and they said that Equifax denied my credit - some sort of error came up. What?! I have amazing credit! Just for a cell phone? So I signed up and saw nothing out of the ordinary, except for a company that was listed as an open account that had been closed over a year ago. I decided I had to phone them to get some clarification, and they said that it was because they just hadn't updated the payments, so it was just a technical error on their part that made it look like my credit wasn't acceptable. WHAT?! So I was denied credit for a cell phone because of their error.
So I tried to cancel my account so I wouldn't be charged and they said, "Ma'am we advise that you keep it for now so that you can make sure that everything has gone through correctly." Seriously? So I kept it because I was already flustered. Then a month went by and during that time I tried to sign in 3 times online but couldn't get in. Tried phoning a couple times but being on hold isn't easy when you have limited time. By then, I was charged their monthly fee, so I phoned them again, this time staying on hold until I got through. Turns out, my phone number wasn't even on file correctly so that was a hassle and a half. Do NOT purchase a credit report with Equifax or subscribe to their credit report services. It has been a nightmare dealing with Equifax these past 4 months. It was not accessible on my online account, and I never received a physical copy either. I contacted Equifax, and the customer service rep indicated there was a glitch on their system and that they would "escalate" my request so that I could access my report. The rep told me that I should hear back within 6 business days. I never did.
In September, I was charged again for another credit report. Again, I never received this report. In October and November, I got charged again for credit reports that I never received. I contacted Equifax two more times in October and November. In October, the rep once again told me that I should hear back within a few days of them "escalating" my request. I did not. In November, the rep told me that my "escalation" request was still in progress with Equifax's budget/finance team. At this point, I was no longer interested in receiving my credit reports and just wanted to cancel my subscription and get a refund. However, the customer rep told me that they could not cancel my subscription or offer me a refund without "escalating" the request.
There is no option for you to cancel your subscription online, so Equifax forces you to go through their call centre to cancel while they continue to charge your account in the meantime. It is not considered an escalation when it takes Equifax over 4 months to resolve a simple issue of getting a consumer report to the customer or to cancel/issue a refund.

Some bank made a hard inquiry and Equifax reported it. I want it removed because I didn't apply for an account. You have to submit a police report to get it removed! And it takes 30 days to process! That's the summary, more to follow. Somebody applied for card with CBNA (not me) and I want a hard inquiry to be removed. Calling Equifax... You have to go through several identity verifications first before they can answer any questions. And every time you get connected to somebody else, you have to go through the same online verification again. Awfully complicated and unnecessary cumbersome.
Then you have the option to file a fraud report. But you need a police report, because my word is not good enough. As if my word to the police will make it any more true! Absurdly complicated and not in the consumer's interest at all. And the police will not do anything with this anyway. Besides, the only proof I have is my credit report that shows a hard inquiry, which Equifax can see for themselves. As such, their policies are ridiculous.
You can also dispute it, after you make an online account. So I did, and then asked the person on the phone how long that will take. 30 days he says. 30 days! What a nice way of saying: we don't care about identity theft. Then he said you can also freeze your credit; also here it is the consumer that has to do the work. I asked the guy if he can give me the phone number of CBNA. And to my frustration he said he needed to verify my identity. I had it with them and hung up, after an hour of getting nowhere. So I just called CBNA directly and found that the application was denied, they will inform Equifax that the hard inquiry should be removed, and I will get a letter confirming that my application is rejected and the inquiry will be removed.
Equifax hides behind government policies to protect identity theft, but once you are a potential victim of theft, they take their time and don't care about the consumer they pretend to protect. It's a shameful display of disdain. Bottom line: Freezing your credit can be a solution, but you can just do that online. You can unfreeze it there as well. Strangely enough you don't even need to provide a copy of an ID for this, but you do need it over the phone. Baffling. But if you want to get a hard inquiry removed, call the company that made the inquiry. They can tell you what the status is and help out much better. Equifax has no regard for the consumer. It's time to get this stupid system overhauled.

I have been charged for a service which I no longer have in June, July (double), August and Sept. 2021. I called company in August 2021, they said I would get my refund in 3-5 days. Today is 9-26-21, just checked my statement and no fecund, and a new charge for Sept. Finished calling Equifax and the response is that, "We will send your refund 3-5 days." I have called my credit card to stop payment for Equifax to protect myself from more charges.

My score was 675.. two months ago.. But after I paid off 2 loans together of about $14,000.00 and a collection of $5,000.00... it went down to 585? I don't understand. My score should have went up to almost 800? Maybe it because so many people are doing bad because of the Corona-virus and their scores are going down... But don't pull my score down with them.

The 2018 breach of Equifax is possibly the most severe of all for a simple reason: the breath-taking amount of highly sensitive data it handed over to criminals. By providing Equifax with full names, Social Security email private home address still puts everyone at high risk if you have any dealings with them. AVOID EQUIFAX. ALWAYS.

I just paid all credits cards down to zero balances. Had to use one for expensive pharmacy. I literally closed 2 credit cards out same day. No credit cards late or in default. These people dropped my score 35 points for using one credit card! This is totally uncalled for. They should not be in the people business, they can destroy lives too easily. Companies rely on them for deciding credit worthiness.

I don't normally write reviews for anything but my experience with them has made me want to warn others of how awful their customer service is. Cancelled my account in June and they have continued to charge me for a service I don't use (or ever used since they couldn't even provide what I signed up for in the first place). I have called countless times, every time being told that I need to wait and that it has been escalated to the highest point, but finally gave up and tried to file a dispute with my credit card company but Equifax refuses to send me the information I need in order to do so. Not to mention if I log into Equifax it tells me to buy a subscription, so I'm being charged for a service that I can't even use if I wanted to. Avoid them if you can.

I canceled my Equifax account 3 months ago and they continue to charge me the monthly fee of $22.54 for a service I no longer have. I have called in repeatedly and been given multiple case numbers. I always get the same response of needing to wait 5-10 business days for the complaint to be escalated to the billing department, which never happens. There are many other online credit providers (TransUnion, Credit Karma). If you are looking for your credit score do not use Equifax. Very concerning and disappointing.

Updated on 09/05/2021: This is an update to a review I filed awhile back on Equifax. I had a company called LVNV Funding LLC (AKA) resurgent Capital services to report a fraudulent debt on my credit report. Equifax knew this debt was fraudulent. Equifax went on record 5 separate times and said they validated this debt to be accurate and mine, They said they contacted the original creditor and the original creditor verified that this was my debt. I contacted the same original creditor and they sent me a letter and said they had no knowledge of any debt that I had with them. I submitted this letter to Equifax.
Equifax responded and again said they had contacted the original creditor and verified this debt to be mine. I contacted the original creditor again and again they sent me a letter saying this was not my debt. I again submitted this letter to Equifax and Equifax again replied that they (Equifax) had contacted the original creditor and verified that this was my debt. I requested to see the documents Equifax claimed they received from the original creditor that verified this was my debt. Equifax refused to supply me with a copy of those documents.
Finally the Original creditor sent Equifax a letter asking them to remove LVNV Funding trade line from my Equifax credit report. Again Equifax refused to remove LVNV Funding trade line. They said that the original creditor could not ask them to do that only LVNV Funding could request their trade line be removed from my credit report.
I called Equifax and talked to Evone (Probably not spelling the name right). Evone admitted that Equifax knew this was a fraudulent debt and that the original creditor had verified that this was not my debt. Evone told me that Equifax would not remove LVNV Funding trade line from my credit report despite knowing this was not my debt. Evone informed me that only LVNV Funding could request their trade line to be removed from my credit report. Finally Equifax finally removed LVNV Funding trade line from my credit report after 6 months of battling them. Check your Equifax credit reports. Equifax admitted knowing this debt was fraudulent and despite that they still refused to remove it from my credit report for over 6 months. I can prove every word I say.
Original Review: I filed a dispute with Equifax on a company called Resurgent Capital Services AKA LVNV Funding LLC. In this dispute I asked for this debt that LVNV is claiming I owe them to be validated. This is a scam debt. This company creates false debts and submits them to Equifax to scam people into paying them. Equifax ruled in favor of LVNV and said this was a legitimate debt. I filed a complaint with the SC Attorney Generals office (Resurgent Capital corporate office is in Greenville SC) accusing LVNV of fraud. I submitted the documents in my complaint that Equifax and LVNV Funding LLC submitted in the resolution to my dispute that Equifax claimed validated this debt and ownership of debt by LVNV Funding LLC.
The SC Attorney General accepted my fraud complaint and said that the documents I provided in my complaint that Equifax supplied me with did not validate this debt and were fraudulent. Despite this Equifax swears that this debt is legitimate and refuses to remove LVNV Trade line from my credit report. Keep in mind the SC Attorney General's office ruled those same documents to be fraudulent yet Equifax says they validate this debt. Equifax is part of this fraud committed by LVNV Funding. Check your Equifax credit report for fraudulent or inaccurate information because Equifax will allow companies to report fraudulent debts on your credit report.

No idea why it is so hard to investigate an identity theft dispute with all my valid government-issued documents. Transunion already solved everything but Equifax just cannot change any fake info on my account. I finally freeze it and rely only on Transunion, but the experience is so annoying. My friend has had no SSN issued ever, but Equifax assigns him a fake SSN to put a fake collection under his name and refuses to change any info. That is so annoying.

This is the worst of the worst credit bureau. It’s like they’re out to make your credit as bad as possible. I had paid off an account (that I didn’t even know I had because all the stupid bureaus bury all the negative stuff so you have to go around digging) over six months ago and this stupid Equifax people randomly recorded it as a severe delinquency. Meanwhile they didn’t make that information clear on the report but BURIED it deep in the closed accounts section. I then called to ask them to delete this account that’s 10 years old and they refused and asked me to call the lender. The customer service was terrible and was just repeating words like a robot. I can read all that on the website! I hate these bureaus with my whole heart. I hope the government folds all of them into one. Or destroy all of them altogether. What do we need 3 credit bureaus for? Useless people.

It's bad enough we are forced to deal with 3 credit bureaus in the USA. Worse Equifax is so incompetent. First of all the 2017 data leak is ridiculous; a company that's supposed to safeguard your data has a leak? Wow. And most times I got to unfreeze my credit they have an issue. I should be able to un freeze my credit online 24/7 in 2 minutes. But the website has issues and I have to call M-F 9-5 and go through a phone tree for 5 minutes to talk to someone. These kind of issues indicate the company is run poorly from the top. The CEO needs to make this company run correctly and stop putting so much emphasis on profit.

Designed without consideration for consumers, and policies make repairing errors difficult. I submitted a correction of an incorrect address several years ago and no resolution forthcoming. Also, very slow to update with positives, but instantaneous with negatives, giving no time to correct before adverse effects. This can generally be said as true of other sites, but this one is in its own league.

The people I dealt with pertaining to my issue were not friendly at all. Let me state that I have excellent credit and had a car loan from Toyota Motor Credit. Always paid car loan on time and paid off amount early to avoid any additional interest charges. Checked my score and it was down 10 points. Credit agency will list this as a closed account and penalize you for it.
Representative explained that due to the fact I closed the account it will affect my credit negatively even though I never closed the account. It was closed by Toyota due to the fact that the loan was satisfied. Please keep in mind if you are late or default on a loan you will lose points on your score and if you make all your payments on time and pay your loan off early you will also have your score downgraded. Just keep this in mind when they try and tell you how important it is to monitor your credit.

Each of these phone numbers 1-888-298-0045, 1-800-349-9960 and 1-888-202-4025 #6 (connect to agent) leads to the same automated system to "establish your identity." All fine until the last 4 questions-- Which of these bank cards did you open in 2012? None of the above isn't recorded as an answer-- The question keeps cycling-- Do you need more time? Do you need the question repeated? Which agency holds your student loan? Option 5-- none of the above (college days were in the past century...). Again none of these phone numbers registers a response. Three times they ended the same way "your identity cannot be verified, goodbye."
The last time the same question kept circling: which amount on the previous account (my "student loan??") represents the amount you paid? Again --#5, none of the above did not register as an option. The recording kept circling "do you need more time?" Asking for "agent" "customer service" "operator" "help" quietly or in an agitated voice did nothing. It was clear the only option was to establish an online account which I did unwillingly. They were hacked once. How do I know they won't be hacked again? Do I really want to give this information online? No choice if I wanted to temporarily remove a freeze to establish utility service.
