I recently paid a personal loan of 9800.00, with Avant in full only after 11, months. For some reason Avant decided to report to Equifax - Paid in Full/ Closed, my credit score went down - not up, after I made significant efforts to increase same. Equifax stated that my credit was impacted because it reduced the time in years of credit history. I am 63 y/o with a credit history since 1980. Their formulas are horrendously flawed and not consumer friendly in my opinion.

When it comes to something as important as a credit report, consumers should have every option possible to fix inaccuracies as easily as a creditor can affect it. It seems as though creditors have more rights over our credit profile than we do. It's unfair that a consumer can't easily dispute inaccurate or unauthorized items. When it comes to hard inquiries from rate shopping, if there are several inquiries in a certain time frame, it would be good to see those inquiries categorized together so it's easier to tell they are considered as one inquiry. So, we know it's only affecting our score once. The way a consumer sees these, when reviewing a credit report, it appears as multiple inquiries, therefore they might be adversely affecting a credit score individually for each one.

From personal experience it's very difficult to contact a "request to delete" from these creditors because many creditors don't keep a record of the credit pull. To dispute a Hard Inquiry, it is required to obtain a request to delete from the creditor to move forward with the dispute. Even though rate shopping inquiries has a small effect, those few points literally make a difference to creditors. They have a bottom line for a minimum score to be considered for any credit applications. Please consider making the dispute process easier as well as categorizing rate shopping inquiries together so it's known that those are affecting a credit score as one.

I needed to to a freeze on my credit (again) due to hackers in my medical insurance company. It was easy with Experian and Transunion BUT Equifax is horrible! They have a bunch of questions about your credit from years ago with the names of companies and dates that I did not even recognize. I tried to reach a human agent in every way their recorded message said and their website said but you just get caught in the same horrible automated system! I ordered a credit report from them because apparently you need to have it in front of you to verify you are who you say you are. I think every company doing business should have human help - it should be law!

On a third call, after 25 more minutes, somehow managed to get a human who agreed with me about how hopeless and screwed up the system is. And WE got nowhere because one of 5 steps to verify my identity involved him sending me a link that wouldn't open. This is a multi billion dollar company that clearly has NO interest in their constituents. Sound familiar? Welcome to the future folks.

I have an account with this company. I was unable to sign in to freeze my credit after a health organization was hacked and I was advised to secure a freeze through all 3 credit reporting agencies because my info was compromised. I couldn't sign in although I know that I was using the correct info on my account. I called and the employee told me that I needed to send in copies of my ss card, drivers license, birth certificate and other government id. I did so and have been advised that my info was incorrect on my report/complaint. How can it be incorrect when I submitted the documents?

I suppose that I will have to file suit against them morons to get any reasonable action and looking over all of these complaints there should be a class action suit filed. Considering this company's incompetence I think that most companies offering credit will not use these people as a reference. At present I still do not have access to my account. The stonewalling from these people is unbelievable and consumer protection people should do something other than compile complaint reports.

Asked many ridiculous security questions...and also questions of my son's school loan under my name... I think they just wanted to keep me on the product...getting the auto payments. I called 3x before I could get off the product.. They sent me a link to take a picture of my drivers license and took my facial picture. I even started thinking they're fraud. All over $19.99 auto payments... They're taking off my account monthly. Equifax has changed. I called them... before October payment due date... They still went ahead to deduct October payment.... The online account says there is no account affiliated with my email- I try creating another one and it says "an account already exists with this email"... After jumping through exhausting robot hoops providing my personal info to literally a robot, and after being on hold for 2 hours 17 minutes, they finally sent me to their IT dept. The IT dept said the issue would be fixed within an hour and all should be OK. Nope it was not and I sent an email to the customer svc complaint dept and a week later it still is "not" ok. I get an email from Equifax UK saying I have contacted the wrong Equifax and to click a link to the correct location {?} --- no I did not click the link. Instead I am now on hold going on my 2nd hour trying to simply get into my account.

It's very scary to think bad guys on the dark web have easier access to my account than I do. I saw their CEO on the news [Mark Begor] saying the importance of freezing your account[s]. Try calling his office. Equifax lists a dozen phone numbers to call, send you to robotic questioning and once they finally do answer the phone, you get sent to the wrong people anyway. Man, I just want to access my file. I will contact the same news station at this point and see if they can help since they literally just interviewed Mr. Begor. For a service that has so much control over our lives, and one we have no choice over, I thought they would have a reasonable call center capability. What a train wreck. You are forced to interact with an automated call system that is falling apart. So many questions to get through and every time it started listing options it would cut immediately to "I don't understand your answer" before it had even listed the options. All this just to get on the wait list for a real human. And that's all you get. A wait. 30 minutes and counting. I can only imagine what they are like to deal with if you have a credit emergency. And their technology is so poor it's no surprise that they had a data breach. Given their unrequested role in our lives shouldn't there be government controls on their competence to serve?

The call I placed to Equifax (that obviously went overseas) was a huge waste of time and effort, all the rep did was place a DISPUTE on my report to correct old information that had been corrected over a year ago then went on and on about trying to sell me some sort of membership in a very inept company. All Equifax had to do was open my file and actually look and compare the info they received and what the status was on that item. Rather than support a person, they just drop their FICO. My problem with that is that when my balance was reduced by $2000 my credit only went up 20 points. So you’re telling me that a $104 usage increase is worse than a $2000 decrease. Equifax is a joke and I told them that on the phone when I called asking why my credit went down when I started a dispute. They said that shouldn’t happen but it told them to look and sure enough it was down. Of course, they said it didn’t have nothing to do with the dispute but couldn’t tell me any other reason. In my opinion, I don’t know why anyone or any financial institution would use or rely on Equifax for anything. Their reporting is so far off from Experian and TransUnion, it’s not even close and neither of them have the swing in credit ratings for such small amounts but hardly any comparably for large amounts paid. The free credit check failed, as did the new password... still interested... So I rang 138332 option 2 and was promised human contact. Unfortunately, after offering me 6 noncontact options that did not suit, the line terminated...several times. Maybe it's an OK service but such a bad start well, it's not the risk. Nor the time.

I had heard of a company before that does a great job (Sentry I think it was), but they were not taking new customers. It's depressing that our new IT revolution has seemingly added to difficulties for the common man (and less paper). Now I learn A4 paper use is up 4 times... and I'm wasting way too much time hanging on the phone for help that just is not there, and on sites that are dysfunctional or not operational. Terrible process canceling. I called in and waited on hold to finally talk to a lady who would not let me cancel!!! After she confirmed she verified my identity by asking me about 10 questions, she then went on to verify my account with another 10 questions. After I got fed up I finally asked if she could just cancel my account as she has already verified so many questions. Then she tries to sell me 50% off which I denied. Then she is asking for my SIN as well as more questions about all my accounts at different banks.... at this point I gave up and asked one more time if she could just cancel already. We have verified my identity with about 15-20 questions now. Finally I just hung up. I give up I guess I'll just cancel that credit card....

I have no issue paying a subscription fee for a service like this, provided they do what they advertise. Equifax does not. My score dropped considerably over two months while I had a collection agency trying to collect payment for a speeding fine that was sent to my old address. I wanted equifax specifically so I knew when my credit rating was impacted and so I could correct it immediately. I didn't find out about this from Equifax, I found out about it while at the bank trying to qualify for a mortgage. The next month, equifax adjusted my score downwards but it happened beyond the period I could correct it. It is a terribly run business that doesn't serve it's intended purpose. We want advance notice of material changes to our credit score so we can immediately fix it. Equifax does not do this and doesn't have customer support to assist either. 0/10.

And when you call to cancel, you have to listen to their robotic like agent ask 100 questions before you actually can cancel! Absolutely terrible company that basically makes money on the assumption people will forget to cancel their subscription, which is sadly true. The matter was escalated on Sat, March 9th to their IT Support team. I was advised that the IT Support team has a Service Level Agreement of 7 to 10 days to resolve this issue. I addressed my concerns and asked for a manager or for the request to be treated with urgency. However, the agent kept repeating policies vs addressing my concerns. I'm well aware that most corporations hire third-party companies to save cost. However, there needs to be a contingency plan for matters that are out of the agent's control. I will avoid doing business in the future due to the lack of customer service/concern.

Equifax's decision to disclose my personal information to individuals who subsequently opened accounts in my name is **deeply troubling**. What is even more **disconcerting** is that there seemed to be a lack of oversight, as no red flags were raised to these individuals, despite the fact that they has already open a First Premier Bank credit cards in my name. 3 capital one cards In my name and many other accounts.

This situation escalated to the point where multiple credit cards were opened in my name, resulting in a **severely negative impact** on my credit score. It is important to note that I have always been cautious about applying for credit, reserving it as a last resort for significant financial matters such as home loans. Regrettably, when the time came for me to refinance my house and secure its future, I discovered that my credit had been **severely compromised**.

The extensive stress and emotional distress caused by this situation cannot be **overstated**. I was forced to dedicate numerous hours to rectifying the damage inflicted upon my credit and ultimately had to resort to filing for bankruptcy to protect my home. The resolution offered by Equifax, promising to make amends, proved to be **inadequate and even insulting**. A mere $5 compensation is a **slap in the face**, considering the magnitude of the harm caused. The apparent lack of accountability is **deeply frustrating**, especially when compared to the legal professionals who appear to have benefited substantially from the settlement, while individuals like myself received an inconsequential sum.

Since this incident, my credit score has struggled to recover, and the time and effort spent rectifying the damage has been nothing short of **exasperating**. It is difficult to comprehend how those responsible for this situation can rest easy at night. I beg for strict actions to stop these people from getting my personal details or using my name for money matters. The carelessness and its results that I have faced are too much to understand. If it wasn't illegal to do what I want to do I would have done it long ago, you people don't understand how difficult this has been in my life and for 5 ** dollars you have got to be kidding me.

I dispute several credit card accounts that were paid in full and instead of getting positive results for paying down approximately $9000 in credit card debt bringing my utilization down to 8% they decreased my score by 67 points for things that they had already penalized me for previously virtually penalizing me twice for the same previous things which can only be because I made them work. My advise is don't dispute things even if you're right. It won't go well for you!

The dispute function on their website in which Equifax says it will "investigate the inquiry" is useless and a SCAM. You get results within hours that states, "investigation has been concluded" with no change. No research has been done by Equifax or they would have removed them. I had to call, and the on-site listing which said I could connect to a live agent during business hours. (It was during those hours.) Equifax is one of the entities that provide your credit score when asked. This way you can see if there is any activity on your accounts that should not be there. You are told that you have to go to the Equifax site and sign up for the free service. You are provided a code to enter for the free one year service. Unfortunately, if you use VPN like a lot of people do, you will not be able to sign up for the free Equifax service because they do not allow you to have VPN on. What is VPN, well it is a service you buy so you can protect your data and computer against any kind of hacking. It encrypts your data in and out. This is one of the best ways you can protect yourself against hackers. When I called Equifax to tell them about this they said write us a letter. I decided I had to phone them to get some clarification, and they said that it was because they just hadn't updated the payments, so it was just a technical error on their part that made it look like my credit wasn't acceptable. WHAT?! So I was denied credit for a cell phone because of their error.

So I tried to cancel my account so I wouldn't be charged and they said, "Ma'am we advise that you keep it for now so that you can make sure that everything has gone through correctly." Seriously? So I kept it because I was already flustered. Then a month went by and during that time I tried to sign in 3 times online but couldn't get in. They won't remove an inquiry from an account I didn't open. They wouldn't do it from when I submitted a dispute online, so I called and they told me I need to contact Citi to request that they send Equifax documentation. I did that. I got a letter from Citi saying that they sent Equifax the documentation. It says that it may take a while to reflect on my report. A few months later still not removed. I call Equifax they say they don't have documentation. I call Citi and because the fraudulent account was closed and it's been so long, they now no longer have any record of the account. Yet, Equifax kept telling me that Citi needs to handle it even though I explained all this. Then they say I need to file a police report. Why would I file a police report on an account that was opened and closed last year?

They say file a FTC report. Okay, if that's what I have to do then fine. But why is it so difficult to have it removed??? All the other credit bureaus had it removed after I disputed it with them. They check with Citi themselves and found that they could remove it since I didn't open it. But Equifax either doesn't do that or somehow the Credit Card company who opened the account and then did their own investigation to close the account and saying it's fraudulent isn't good enough for Equifax. They want you to jump through unnecessary hoops to do what the other bureaus did easily. And the customer service reps are rude; they cut you off and talk over you and don't have the patience to listen to the situation. They just want to be done with you without any effort.

I called 2 weeks ago and spoke to an agent who escalated the concern as she had a good understanding and couldn’t see why the score would have dropped. I then followed up today and was treated horribly by three separate agents who read from a script and didn’t have any customer service. This was inclusive of a supervisor who didn’t listen to my concerns. I requested a call back from the supervisor confirming they listen to my initial call when my concern was escalated (by a helpful agent). Very poor service. Certainly wouldn’t ever pay for it. My credit report was frozen due to no fault of my own, yet I'm being negatively affected by it. It's impossible to handle it via online or by phone if you can't prove who you are. Their record keeping department is an absolute joke. For an institution as vital as they are to the individual's day to day functioning, you'd think they'd have a system in place to verify identity rather easily. In comparison, TransUnion and Experian rarely have any issues. Faxing or mailing social security cards and Identification is cumbersome and dangerous yet it's the only method available if they claim your Identification is in question. Even still, fax and mail often avail nothing. I'm totally frustrated that a simple task like renting an apartment is hindered due to this bureau's incompetence.

I explained the circumstances and paid them, and the collection company removed references to them.

Transunion showed them removed without a trace of negative the NEXT DAY (12/2/21, because there were extenuating circumstances). Experian and Equifax have not! I've disputed them ALL and each dispute is somehow "verified as accurately reported", sometimes within hours of me disputing them - in the middle of the night! I disputed several at approximately 11 p.m. and they were cleared by 2:30 a.m.

Equifax shows my date of birth a year EARLIER and won't correct it. They also still have me "married to...", my ex husband! We've been divorced over 10 years and they refuse to correct this! Additionally, I reviewed free people search dot com and found this EXACT information there for the public to see!!! I KNOW IT'S THEM and they're either selling our information or they own the website! I'm so frustrated dealing with these morons who have so much power in their hands to destroy lives! Do NOT purchase a credit report with Equifax or subscribe to their credit report services. It has been a nightmare dealing with Equifax these past 4 months. I first purchased my credit report in August. Based on how Equifax's website is set up, you're automatically subscribed to a monthly $20.95 payment plan. In August, I never received my credit report. It was not accessible on my online account, and I never received a physical copy either. I contacted Equifax, and the customer service rep indicated there was a glitch on their system and that they would "escalate" my request so that I could access my report. The rep told me that I should hear back within 6 business days. I never did.

In September, I was charged again for another credit report. Again, I never received this report. In October and November, I got charged again for credit reports that I never received. I contacted Equifax two more times in October and November. In October, the rep once again told me that I should hear back within a few days of them "escalating" my request. I did not. In November, the rep told me that my "escalation" request was still in progress with Equifax's budget/finance team. At this point, I was no longer interested in receiving my credit reports and just wanted to cancel my subscription and get a refund. However, the customer rep told me that they could not cancel my subscription or offer me a refund without "escalating" the request.

There is no option for you to cancel your subscription online, so Equifax forces you to go through their call centre to cancel while they continue to charge your account in the meantime. It is not considered an escalation when it takes Equifax over 4 months to resolve a simple issue of getting a consumer report to the customer or to cancel/issue a refund.

Some bank made a hard inquiry and Equifax reported it. I want it removed because I didn't apply for an account. You have to submit a police report to get it removed! And it takes 30 days to process! That's the summary, more to follow. Somebody applied for card with CBNA (not me) and I want a hard inquiry to be removed. Calling Equifax... You have to go through several identity verifications first before they can answer any questions. And every time you get connected to somebody else, you have to go through the same online verification again. Awfully complicated and unnecessary cumbersome.

Then you have the option to file a fraud report. But you need a police report, because my word is not good enough. As if my word to the police will make it any more true! Absurdly complicated and not in the consumer's interest at all. And the police will not do anything with this anyway. Besides, the only proof I have is my credit report that shows a hard inquiry, which Equifax can see for themselves. As such, their policies are ridiculous.

You can also dispute it, after you make an online account. So I did, and then asked the person on the phone how long that will take. 30 days he says. 30 days! What a nice way of saying: we don't care about identity theft. Then he said you can also freeze your credit; also here it is the consumer that has to do the work. I asked the guy if he can give me the phone number of CBNA. And to my frustration he said he needed to verify my identity. I had it with them and hung up, after an hour of getting nowhere. So I just called CBNA directly and found that the application was denied, they will inform Equifax that the hard inquiry should be removed, and I will get a letter confirming that my application is rejected and the inquiry will be removed.

Equifax hides behind government policies to protect identity theft, but once you are a potential victim of theft, they take their time and don't care about the consumer they pretend to protect. It's a shameful display of disdain. Bottom line: Freezing your credit can be a solution, but you can just do that online. You can unfreeze it there as well. Strangely enough you don't even need to provide a copy of an ID for this, but you do need it over the phone. Baffling. But if you want to get a hard inquiry removed, call the company that made the inquiry. They can tell you what the status is and help out much better. Equifax has no regard for the consumer. It's time to get this stupid system overhauled.

Updated on 09/05/2021: This is an update to a review I filed awhile back on Equifax. I had a company called LVNV Funding LLC (AKA) resurgent Capital services to report a fraudulent debt on my credit report. Equifax knew this debt was fraudulent. Equifax went on record 5 separate times and said they validated this debt to be accurate and mine, They said they contacted the original creditor and the original creditor verified that this was my debt. I contacted the same original creditor and they sent me a letter and said they had no knowledge of any debt that I had with them. I submitted this letter to Equifax.

Equifax responded and again said they had contacted the original creditor and verified this debt to be mine. I contacted the original creditor again and again they sent me a letter saying this was not my debt. I again submitted this letter to Equifax and Equifax again replied that they (Equifax) had contacted the original creditor and verified that this was my debt. I requested to see the documents Equifax claimed they received from the original creditor that verified this was my debt. Equifax refused to supply me with a copy of those documents.

Finally the Original creditor sent Equifax a letter asking them to remove LVNV Funding trade line from my Equifax credit report. Again Equifax refused to remove LVNV Funding trade line. They said that the original creditor could not ask them to do that only LVNV Funding could request their trade line be removed from my credit report.

I called Equifax and talked to Evone (Probably not spelling the name right). Evone admitted that Equifax knew this was a fraudulent debt and that the original creditor had verified that this was not my debt. Evone told me that Equifax would not remove LVNV Funding trade line from my credit report despite knowing this was not my debt. Evone informed me that only LVNV Funding could request their trade line to be removed from my credit report. Finally Equifax finally removed LVNV Funding trade line from my credit report after 6 months of battling them. Check your Equifax credit reports. Equifax admitted knowing this debt was fraudulent and despite that they still refused to remove it from my credit report for over 6 months. I can prove every word I say.

Original Review: I filed a dispute with Equifax on a company called Resurgent Capital Services AKA LVNV Funding LLC. In this dispute I asked for this debt that LVNV is claiming I owe them to be validated. This is a scam debt. This company creates false debts and submits them to Equifax to scam people into paying them. Equifax ruled in favor of LVNV and said this was a legitimate debt. I filed a complaint with the SC Attorney Generals office (Resurgent Capital corporate office is in Greenville SC) accusing LVNV of fraud. I submitted the documents in my complaint that Equifax and LVNV Funding LLC submitted in the resolution to my dispute that Equifax claimed validated this debt and ownership of debt by LVNV Funding LLC.

The SC Attorney General accepted my fraud complaint and said that the documents I provided in my complaint that Equifax supplied me with did not validate this debt and were fraudulent. Despite this Equifax swears that this debt is legitimate and refuses to remove LVNV Trade line from my credit report. Keep in mind the SC Attorney General's office ruled those same documents to be fraudulent yet Equifax says they validate this debt. Equifax is part of this fraud committed by LVNV Funding. Check your Equifax credit report for fraudulent or inaccurate information because Equifax will allow companies to report fraudulent debts on your credit report.

Each of these phone numbers 1-888-298-0045, 1-800-349-9960 and 1-888-202-4025 #6 (connect to agent) leads to the same automated system to "establish your identity." All fine until the last 4 questions-- Which of these bank cards did you open in 2012? None of the above isn't recorded as an answer-- The question keeps cycling-- Do you need more time? Do you need the question repeated? Which agency holds your student loan? Option 5-- none of the above (college days were in the past century...). Again none of these phone numbers registers a response. Three times they ended the same way "your identity cannot be verified, goodbye."

The last time the same question kept circling: which amount on the previous account (my "student loan??") represents the amount you paid? Again --#5, none of the above did not register as an option. The recording kept circling "do you need more time?" Asking for "agent" "customer service" "operator" "help" quietly or in an agitated voice did nothing. It was clear the only option was to establish an online account which I did unwillingly. They were hacked once. How do I know they won't be hacked again? Do I really want to give this information online? No choice if I wanted to temporarily remove a freeze to establish utility service.

When they connect me to a agent their system is always down. The dispute I turned in is a no brainer. It’s been over a month and I’ve not heard a thing from them. Dispute is not even on the item I’m disputing. This last month my fico has done up 60 points with 2 out of 3 companies. Not Equifax. It went down. So from not being able to verify me, to every time I call the system is down, so I can’t be helped. Sounds shady to me.

The kicker is the credit card company sent me the notification they were increasing my line of credit because of excellent payment history. I didn't apply! The other credit bureaus increased my score. How does it make sense to decrease someone's score for good consumer behavior and practices? Does not make any sense to me. Only Equifax does this and in my opinion... that's the worse practice ever. How do you overcome this????

Those boost points will stay on your credit as long as you continue to pay Equifax each month for that membership. As soon as you cancel your Equifax accounts, all these boost Fico scores you worked so hard for will disappear. A complete scams while acting like they are helping you “monitoring”. AVOID!!!!

They have no idea why the score is, what it is, all they know is general, like pay bills on time etc etc. They always blame that the system auto generates the score and they have no idea about that. I argued many times that nothing has changed to my report, bills paid on time, no extra usage on credit cards, it is only 30% and no any credit inquiries and everything else is in place as last months and so then how come the score came down by 5-10 points and they had absolutely no answer and no idea. Also, If you fight for any dispute, the response is very late. Looks like they don't even know what they are doing? It is one of the biggest Credit Bureau and very sadly it is so damn poor in terms of service and knowledge.

I recently disputed the last two negative items on my credit report with valid reasons. These items were removed from Transunion within 48 hours. They are still showing with Equifax. Tonight I went to their site from Creditkarma's site once I figured out that I would probably have to dispute the negative items all over again with Equifax and when I entered the required information the first time I got a try again later our system isn't operating. Five minutes later I enter the info again and now I get "You must call customer care." So, I call customer care and after telling the computer things I'm pretty sure the government doesn't even know about me I finally get rung thru and YEP it's the computer guy again telling me they're closed.

My take? They could say they are closed before taking your first born. They could hire people because as far as I know the computer guy seems to be the only one actually working there. Finally, and this is my opinion... Equifax seams predatory in a way with regard to consumer credit reporting policies. I feel like there should be some kind of oversight committee if there isn't one. Either way what Transunion did in less than 2 days is exponentially more time consuming with Equifax and even though I won my disputes with Transunion I have this weird feeling it's not going to be a gimmie with Equifax. If there was a credit fairy I guess I just wish she or he would would beat the living daylights out of Equifax with an ugly wand. Thanks for reading!

To do this, I had to call and speak to customer support personally at Experian, Transunion, and Equifax. I called them all on Jan 31st. Both Experian and Transunion removed all of my open disputes and consumer statements while I was on the phone with them. Equifax, however, told me it could take up to 30 days to have them removed. Why does it take 30 days to remove the disputes that took me only 30 seconds to add back in 2018!

Fast forward to today, February 17th and nothing has been changed. I called them for the fourth the today and found out that the consumer dispute was never included into original call to remove disputes and consumer statement, so now I have to wait another 30 days for that and up to another 10 days for my original remove disputes request to be completed. I've been having issues with Equifax for quite some time now. Among many other issues-- when something positive happens on my account, there's hardly ever a positive change to my score. The same information that is on Equifax is the same information I have on Transunion and Experian; yet, I'm always seeing it being reflected with a positive score change with each company except for Equifax. Equifax, is the only bureau that constantly take more than they give, from my experience. Just this past December there was a slight change (increase) in my utilization and it dropped my score on Equifax by 13 points!! 2 points on Transunion and 4 points on Experian. Now here come January-- my utilization decreased to 0% because I paid everything off, and wanted to give the system time to reflect the changes.

I also had an item removed in January which reflected on all 3 bureaus. The decrease in utilization gave me back my points I had lost in December with Transunion and Experian but not Equifax!!! The removed account had also bumped my score with Transunion and Experian but not with Equifax!!!! Frustrated at this point, I called Equifax, and they gave me the same run around every other reviewer is mentioning. They asked me these identity questions that honestly did not apply to me so they could not identify me. I was told to fax or mail identification along with a letter to get access to my report & score. I only wanted to know why that could possibly happen when there's positive information being updated on the account. They continued to tell me they could not identify me so they couldn't provide me with any information.

It honestly sounded extremely scripted-- as if I were talking to a darn robot, and as if these situations had always occurred. Now I see that there are thousands having these same exact issues primarily with Equifax. I just think it's super strange that both Transunion and Equifax uses the same scoring system; yet, the actual scores generated are extremely different. I am hoping to purchase a home before the year is out but I am really losing hope because of Equifax. Something is really off about this company or their system. This is by far the worse company I've ever had to deal with! I'd really like to sue the crap out of Equifax-- solely on the fact that I am also being denied certain cards because of their system not updating! They honestly need to really be looked into and put out of business the way they're destroying/hindering people's lives.

So about 3 weeks ago I had 5 collections showing as open, all medical collections, on all 3 reports I paid those 5 collections off at that time to the original creditor. As of last week TransUnion and Experian have removed them all. Excellent, faster than I could imagine. Equifax, however, has not. I went through the dispute process which I can only do one at a time. Did not help. I have tried on several occasions to log in to their website. To only find it always tells me I can't log in at this time. Please call customer service.

Today I finally called customer service to be put on hold. I could hear their music then it went silence. I said hello a few times. Nothing happened. Said hello a few more times. Still nothing that I said, "You must be on mute because I can't hear you," and then it went to a customer service survey on how they did which I of course said did nothing because I talk to nobody. Call back again. Finally was able to talk to somebody. They told me with an open account when it's paid it'll stay there for 10 years and I did but that is incorrect because the other 2 agencies have already removed them from my reports and the response was, "That's not how we work here. We are different than the other 2."

So I ask what can I do to expedite this since they were open collections accounts that have been paid off and by law should be removed. They stated they are currently having a system outage and there's nothing they can do until their outage is over and that I can call back and ask the same questions at another date. Now I don't want to disparage any culture whatsoever. I am sure there are plenty of fine call centers overseas but when we are dealing with our credit that is a factor in our lives and how we live them and within the agency that has already been hacked before. Would it not make sense that these call centers be located in the homeland of the country that is calling them. To me it just seems it would be more secure if the call center for Equifax would be in the United States or at least in North America.

I usually do not take time to do reviews, but this interaction was so pathetic that it warrants a truthful review. I have a credit freeze across the board because my info was compromised in the 2017 Equifax data breach. I want to refinance a mortgage so needed to temporarily unfreeze the 3 large credit bureaus. Transunion and Experian were clear, straightforward and both successful online. Excellent job - just the way it should be.

Equifax on the other hand, was awful, unable to login online, then unable to utilize password help - both were "unable to process my request at this time", called the Equifax phone number, attempted the "automated" temporary lift of credit freeze - what a disaster that was, rather unclear questions and answer choices about "information contained in my credit report". I answered one of the questions incorrectly? Requested to speak to an agent. She was very pleasant but not too helpful. She informed me that my account was now locked because of the automated "help". She offered to walk me through the online login but subsequently informed me that the "online login" was also locked and I would not be able to use the 2 remaining login attempts.

Remaining options: mail documentation and a written request, which will be "processed in a timely manner" - 7 to 10 business days or fax for a processing time of 5 business days. I requested that our recorded conversation be forwarded to the company CEO. Read the other reviews. This company apparently has not improved operations one bit from the days of their avoidable data breach except perhaps to improve their CYA policies. It is infuriating that a profiteering company can collect and sell my data without my permission, then not protect that data from theft. On top of that, why do they remain in a position to then impede the business that I need to conduct.

Kudos to Transunion and Experian - 5 stars. I only gave Equifax a one star because a ZERO was not available. FYI - you cannot signup for Medicare or Social Security Retirement online if you have a credit freeze. You have to make an in person appointment to create an account. Thank you Equifax - the company that according to 2017 news stories, could have proactively avoided a massive data breach by simply installing the freely available Apache Web-server security patches. Google it, the former resigned CEO walked away with 70 million dollars. Good luck to everyone one of the 140 million data breached people that are forced to deal with Equifax.

Next question, who is loan with - answer - none of the above. Last question was about a mortgage - I don't have a mortgage.

Someone with a difficult to understand accent told me I would have to FAX verification info, SS card, driver's license. So I left my house, one of the few times during COVID, and faxed it. The customer 'service' agent told me I would get a response within 30 days BY MAIL. It is 2020, almost 2021. My mailbox is more available to hackers than my computer accounts!

Logging on to their sites and using their systems is a breeze. For some reason Equifax rejects my passwords and prompts me to call customer service; which by the way is a call service in India, which means you'll be speaking to someone reading a script who can't do a thing to help you. If this sort of thing only happened once, I would understand, but it happens every time. If you are trying to buy a house, this is a major setback.

Here is my complaint!!! Why can't these guys operate with a real customer service department that can solve problems? At the end of the very frustrating phone call, you are presented with two options. You can send a letter, or you can send a fax. Both of these options take 5 business days, which is more like 10 calendar days. There isn't a single person you can speak with for help. In applying for a mortgage refinance, I had to remove a security freeze with the 3 reporting agencies. There was no problem with TransUnion and Experian. Their customer service - telephone for TransUnion and website for Experian - worked well. The freeze was lifted in a manner of minutes. This complaint involves Equifax for not having adequate customer service. To this date, weeks after my request, the freeze has not been lifted which resulted in my lender not gaining access to my credit history from Equifax and has placed my loan application in jeopardy. And a potential financial liability. The fault is Equifax's totally dysfunctional customer-service system. Essentially, they have no customer service.

First, I tried dialing into their automated system. There are 4 security questions asked which I correctly entered into their numerical system. The system repeats the numbers so I knew that I had made no mistakes. Then it asks for a pin that was never requested by me or given to me. So since I did not have the pin the system connects - eventually - to a CSR. The representative stated he could not help me because "the system cannot verify your identity." So I asked, "How, after answering all the information correctly, we can verify my ID?" The representative said there was no way he could help me, and so I would have to submit a request by mail. He informed me that would take several weeks, maybe a month.

I explained that I had an interest-rate lock on my mortgage application that I would lose if my credit could not be unfroze. He just kept repeating the endless loop about "the system cannot verify your identity." I replied that I was willing to provide any information needed for this purpose. He again stated "the system cannot verify your identity." I insisted on speaking to a supervisor. Again he repeated the same computer generated message. Finally, he connected me to a “supervisor(?)” The identical conversation ensued that I had had with the first CSR. In frustration I insisted on speaking to an actual supervisor. I was connected with Dinna. She repeated the exact same message and stated there was no way a human being could assist me because of "the system."

I was totally frustrated by this experience - especially after the other two credit agencies had so easily assisted me. I called my lender to explain the situation, and he informed that I would absolutely need all 3 of my credit info unfrozen. He suggested that I try their website. The experience was just as infuriating. After I provided all the information correctly, the programmed response was that I needed to fax or mail in some identity info. A fax number was provided on the website. I faxed the required info to Equifax. Attached to my fax request was a copy of my FL driver's license, and a copy of my monthly mortgage information confirming my address. I asked to "please expedite" due to interest rate situation.

Three week after my fax, I received a form letter from Equifax asking me to send in the same information in a mailed letter. They gave no explanation why they had not accepted the information that I had already provided in the fax. In again attempting to remove Equifax's obstruction, I again tried to get assistance from customer service. Both times the agents hung up on me without explanation. Equifax has a totally anti-consumer CS system. It may have cost me a favorable mortgage loan. I feel their operation deserves to be shutdown and prevented from damaging other consumers.

I have been fighting with Equifax for nearly 3 YEARS to gain access to my online credit report and their online dispute system. There are several derogatory marks on my Equifax report that are from old medical bills, which should NOT be on there because they were paid by my insurance, which I have full proof of. However, I have NOT been able to access either my Equifax credit report or their online dispute system in the nearly 3 years that I have been trying so that I can dispute these items to have them removed. Out of the 3 credit bureaus, my lowest score, by a landslide, is with Equifax because of all the inaccuracies. I have tried SNAIL MAILING my dispute to them on several occasions over the last 3 years and I have never even so much as received an ACKNOWLEDGEMENT of receipt of my dispute.

One time after I mailed my dispute, they just mailed me a copy of my credit report! That is NOT what I needed! I can only view my Equifax report via Credit Karma, but I cannot dispute anything because that needs to be done directly through the Equifax website, but guess what? I can't do that because it NEVER works!!! I can't even access my credit report on their website! Every single time I try to access either my credit report or their online dispute center, I get the message, "We are unable to process your request." I have CALLED Equifax on the phone multiple times, only to get some foreign idiot who just tells me to mail my dispute. Um...HELLO?!?! I have already done that MULTIPLE times with absolutely NO response whatsoever!

I have reported Equifax to the CFPB, but that was a complete and total waste of my time as nothing ever came of that. I finally reported them to my state's Attorney General Consumer Credit Protection Bureau, but they were totally useless as well. It is a CONSUMER'S RIGHT to have FULL ACCESS to their credit reports with ALL THREE bureaus and ALSO have full access to be able to dispute any inaccuracies and discrepancies on their consumer credit report. I have NEVER had a single problem with Experian or Transunion and my scores with them are substantially higher than my score with Equifax (by nearly 100 points), all because these people are criminals who are doing nothing but stonewalling my access to my credit report and their online dispute system.

If I want to see my Equifax report, I have to go through Credit Karma, but whenever I try to dispute any items, it just directs me right to the Equifax website, where I constantly get the previously mentioned error. My wife and I are planning to purchase a new home within the next year to year and a half, but these frauds at Equifax are preventing that from happening until I can get some of these inaccuracies removed from my credit report with their bureau. My next step is going to be legal action.

I pay cash for all of my vehicles?!), then tells you that you are wrong. They then ask you to fax (who has a fax?) information, or mail a copy of your social security card and drivers license. (Who is going to MAIL those sensitive documents?!) No email option, no ability to update your data.

The kicker is that I also have an account set up on the website which claims you can handle it there, but even after authenticating who I am it says I must call the 800 number to handle.
