I was trying to get my free annual credit report, the website shows that my information provided does not match the information in the system and let me sent a proof of my identity and proof of address to the address of Equifax: Equifax Information Services LLC PO Box 105167 Atlanta, Georgia 30348. After what they officially said 5 to 7 business days of waiting (first time calling customer service), I got nothing changed or even "notice letter". Then I called customer service again and figured out this address WAS NOT CORRECT! Okay, fine, what is the correct address? PO Box 740256, Atlanta, Georgia 30374-0256.
Then I sent my document for the second time 5 days ahead of today. I still got nothing updated and I cannot access to my credit report. Then, I called customer service again. No surprise, they told me I need to wait for 5 to 7 business days to get a response/notice letter. "Alright, I just want to know whether Equifax received my documents or not", I said. "I am really sorry for your inconvenience, it will take 5 to 7 business days to process and send you a response/notice letter." I got this message from customer service again! SO, what can I say? Very disappointed with the customer service and the efficiency of Equifax. It's been almost two months since the first time I was trying to get my credit report from Equifax. Let's see how long they can take to finally resolve my issue.

First Equifax got me and my mother confused. They put her credit card on my credit report, we asked the credit company in question to please contact Equifax to get them to update their report. After Equifax was contacted by this credit card company and that information was removed they then reported that I missed a payment on a credit card I never activated. They invent problems where they do not exist, and make you interact with a website that never works and an automated phone tree that is horrible, getting to a person is difficult and once you do they are from the Philippines and have difficulty understanding you. I wish 0 stars was an option. At this point I'm going to try to convince the bank to ignore Equifax as they have me rated 126 points lower than all the other credit companies.

OK first off I am aware my credit is not great. I have spent the last couple of years working on it and it is coming up. My problem is Equifax shows my credit score to be 55 points lower than the others. My credit score is my credit score. How the hell can one credit company see my efforts to improve my score and reflect my efforts yet Equifax doesn't? My last report showed a 31 point jump up in my score and Equifax shows a 6 point drop... Get rid of this company. Give Americans a credit company that will pay attention and get with the damn program.

I had 2 fraud attempts on my account. 2 hard copy inquiries were done. All of the companies removed the hard copy inquiries except Equifax! I have the copies of the letters from the fraud departments where the attempts were made. I sent copies to Equifax twice, "We never received any letters from you or any companies." I am trying to purchase home and need this score to match my others and they will NOT work with me. They said they needed my credits' names and amounts to verify who I was even tho they had everything else. I told them I do not have any credit cards or payments. So I was told "then we can not verify who you are if you do not give us this information." WHAT! I dont have any for over 25 years. Are you stupid? YES!!! They repeat what they are saying over and over. "I can not help you until you give me this information."
Plus don't we have any Americans working in this credit company? Is everything sent out of the US just to cause us extreme upset and frustration! I have everything documented and all letters, they don't care. Thank goodness the other bureaus are kind and caring and DO their jobs the right way! Where is the quality customer care. Oh yea it's in the Philippines. Dumb me, where the robots work.

Their employees there are not English speaking people first of all. I reported an unauthorized address change and Equifax contact credit company and said I was getting that card under false information and the card company stopped my card. This damn reporting company needs to eliminated from reporting for the millions of complaint received by the FTC and not is changing. Also this damn company give you one score on their site and when creditors run your credit it's a different credit score score. We need to collectively have this company removed from all business. It's too much to deal with.

My credit score is constantly up and down, with them docking 35 points for $1 added but only adding 2 points for me paying off $400 in debt. They have no idea what they are doing.

Spent 2.5 hours one day after being transferred 8-10 times from Nevada--India---South America----Atlanta. Asking for status of dispute, after 45 days in their possession. Spent over 3 hours another day after sending second dispute, same locations, no help. Personnel completely inept. Seemed unable to verify any information. Second dispute was there for 9 days. I would not recommend anyone pay for any service with Equifax. They have to be the worst company I have ever dealt with. I have done several disputes on items that are clearly not mine nor have I ever had any contact with these companies and equifax does a sloppy rush job insisting they have reviewed the information and that it appears to belong to be. It's clear that they never followed the actual rules and did a proper investigation because if they did then they would have found the items to be fraudulent. Please do yourself a favor and avoid paying equifax for any type of credit services. It will be just a waste of money.

Equifax' office is located in Atlanta 10 min. away from where I live. My call was answered by someone in the Philippines who I can't hardly understand. I was placed on hold a couple of times because the representative did not know the answers to my questions. Lastly, I ask if I could go in person and submit the required copies directly since I felt uncomfortable mailing personal/sensitive information by mail. She said that she did not know and then said it was not advisable. I would rate this agency a zero for no access and customer service.

Offshore Agent, Impossible to get my own information. Logging in online did not work because "the site is being upgraded." I called to find out if I froze my account (I want it frozen). Agent was hard to understand and couldn't always understand me. Asked me a myriad of questions, all of which I answered, but refused to give me any info because I could not tell her when the last time I asked for a report was (it was long ago). Then she proceeded to tell me I had to send in documentation at which point I hung up in frustration. Awful experience and I still don't know if my account is frozen or not.

I wish there were negative stars to rate Equifax. I have been trying for months to set up a free security freeze, of which a Bill was passed directing all of the credit bureaus to comply. I finally ended up calling and after 30 minutes of questioning about accounts that I had 20 years ago, he told me that he put on a freeze and that he was sending to me by mail a PIN to use for freezing and unfreezing the account. Long story shorter, I have tried multiple time to check the status of the freeze and test how I would freeze and unfreeze the reports online. However, I have not once been able to even access my account but always end up having to call them. Their answer is always the same, after verifying my personal information, they say their system is down, try again in 48 hours.
Now I am fearful that I will not be able to unfreeze my credit if needed. After reading other complaints I thank the Lord that I never signed up for any of their paid products. I should have know there would be problems with them, because years ago I stopped trying to get my one free annual credit report, since they could never figure out who I was. I have never had any problems with TransUnion or Experian. My credit rating with them is always in the high 800's. Freezing and Unfreezing my reports with them are easy. Equifax is a travesty of a credit bureau and should not be allowed to be part of the credit bureau system. The consumer should have the option to opt-out of having their information collected by Equifax.

Equifax's "customer support" is filled with a bunch of ignorant people, who do not even know their basic policy procedures. I have been trying to get a removal of my credit freeze since the beginning of June. However, since I don't know the exact month and year I put the freeze on, I'm denied. Further, because I can only get one free credit report (I've used mine), the free monitoring trial I used to get a copy of my report apparently does NOT match "the official report Equifax has." So, when asked a series of questions about my report, I can't "pass the security questions about my report." However, I relay my personal information: Name, address, DOB, etc. But for Equifax, that is not enough. To get my information, I had to fax in a copy of my driver's license and social security card, and wait TWO WEEKS for an update, as I was told it could take up to 14 days.
BUT, when I did that, I went through the same issues! Then, I demanded to talk to a supervisor. However, I was then told that on my cover letter, I HAD TO SPELL OUT THAT I WAS REQUESTING A LIFT ON THE FREEZE, SOMETHING THAT NEITHER OF THE RANK AND FILES MENTIONED TO ME! I would have waited ANOTHER TWO WEEKS, AND NEVER KNOWN THAT I NEEDED TO REQUEST THE FREEZE ON MY FAX'S COVER LETTER!
I just tried to confirm that they actually received my fax from 06/24/2019, and THEY REFUSED to do that via chat. They want me to call in, and I would go through the same issue for the third time! How is it that I can get copies of my credit info from a credit monitoring site (something I would have to PAY FOR, if I don't cancel the trial! ), but I can't even get a freeze lifted, contacting Equifax, direct?
As long as I am on it, why should we have to ever pay for our credit reports, or access to our FICOs? This is our personal information. With the data breaches, and Identity Theft targeting even kids--with hacking technology that allows them to *predict social security numbers*--and Identity Theft being HUGE, We The People should be able to have full access to our reports and FICOs, and any other information, as our credit is virtually everything from jobs to getting a place to live.
I had put a freeze with all of the agencies, and only spoke with Equifax, as that is who my Credit Union used for pulling my credit. As a result, I have a few Hard Pulls. I haven't spoken to the others, as I don't want to fax in copies of my driver's license and social security card to more companies whose "customer support" appears to be in India. Also, if by the credit reporting agency's "logic," if I have all of my information, but can't answer information about my "official report," then how do they know that the person faxing in the driver's license and social security card didn't steal it? I know my personal information, and have those forms of ID, but it's not enough.

Then they said they had no such email registered. After the 4th person, they said they did have my email registered. They finally sent me a link to change my password. Credit is basically our life and future. Imperative to obtain the American dream. Unfortunately the American dream is handle by representatives from every place in earth but America. I don't really care much about that. My concern Is that I am not able to exercise my right to obtain information about my credit report, or open a dispute. They do not know who I am nor they believe anything I say. My data was included in the breach last year. My life has become hell when accounts began to pop up under my name and I have no way to dispute them because I keep sending Equifax via fax copies of my Social Security Cards and driver license number and explain the reason why I need my own information from them. I guess I may be because I am in the group of people suing them for that data breach fiasco. I hope it ends that bureau and a decent and proper bureau be born and help us move forward.

Equifax has continued to provide misinformation on my credit report. I have faxed copies of my passport, utility bills, social security card to them over 5 times. I have wasted countless hours going over the erroneous items with their representatives. Equifax representatives and managers have systematically continue to read from a script re-requesting (new Equifax term from one of their call centers in India) the same documents BEFORE they can assist me with the issues they created. Equifax has misspelled my address and has a phone number (only God knows where they came up with it) on my file. Because of this faux pas I do not have a credit profile with Equifax. Transunion and Experian both have my correct information and my score is in the 800s.
Equifax mailed a letter to my address with a verification number so that I could identify myself and Log in with the verification number that Equifax provided. Guess what, Equifax would not allow me to log in without calling their number to proceed. I got their call center in India. The female representative could not/would not understand my frustration or request. I finally asked her to transfer me to the United States and she complied. The nice young man with a southern accent requested..you guessed it ..for me to fax my driver's license, utility bill with a letter requesting these changes to the fax number he provided. I asked him.."what no copy of my social security card?" I was placed on a "brief" hold while he checked. Which he incorrectly stated "no a copy of your ss card is not needed".
Last question I asked from this nice informed young man "If my information differs from what you have on record, WHY did Equifax mail a letter to the address I provided with a verification code if it differs from what you have on my profile?" Alas he had no answer other than, "Please fax your driver's license, utility bill and a letter requesting changes and we will email/call you in 7-10 business days." 45 minutes I'll never get back. Good luck everyone. I will be filing a complaint with the CFPB.

Terrible company. All I wanted to do was undo a freeze I never put on my account. They kept asking for a PIN which I don't have. Then I couldn't even access my online account. When I found an incorrect item on my credit report, I tried to open a dispute with Equifax. Their system would not allow me to open a dispute through their website, so the site brought up another page where I filled in my information and submitted it. I waited about a month and did not hear anything from them. Not receiving any information, I again, opened a dispute. This time the dispute was accepted. Several weeks later, I received a dispute number. After attempting to view my dispute for days upon days, I called Equifax, and could barely understand the person on the other end of the line!
Equifax is refusing to give me the results of my dispute! They asked questions about loans and credit cards I do not have. Now, they are telling me that I have to send them a copy of my Social Security card and Driver's License! This is utter nonsense! The item on my credit report is simply NOT mine. It needs to be removed, and they will not even tell me whether or not they have done this. My guess is that they have not since it is still showing on my report. Equifax not only had 1 breach October 2016, they had another November 2018. In these breaches they allowed our personal information with SS#, names, address, phone, email and addresses with legal middle names to be sold to the open market by an insider and now hundreds in of thousands data brokers are either selling the information, distorting it or other hackers have it to use as identity theft or fraud. Equifax has taken no responsibility for their actions and refuse to remove inaccurate information from the report or delete or suppress files when police reports and notarized affidavits are submitted. They are a total fraud and con and continue with their fraudulent ways regardless what federal laws are in place to protect consumers.

I have been battling ID Theft since for about a year now. Try to navigate through this process is enough to make a person go insane. Equifax failed to put a fraud alert (initially) when I first learned someone was attempting to get a credit card in my name. I did not know they failed to place the fraud alert until months later, when my bank account was emptied & much more credit had been given to the thief.
I have since been working to rectify everything, however Equifax refuses to give my access to my report. No matter how I request it, it is not given to me. I can see my report via Credit Karma, and I utilize the dispute option, however I cannot see the dispute result. Like EVERYONE ELSE on this site, I get the "We are sorry, our online system is unavailable at the moment" message. This is unacceptable, I have been trying to establish credit with vendors for my new business & Equifax is reporting false information, DESTROYING my ability to get my business going.
Equifax asking questions to verify I am me, but they are asking questions about the accounts I did not open, & I'm disputing, as they are not mine, they only ask about accounts I have no idea about. They claims that the verification questions being asked are random every time, & they have no control over what they ask. Problem with this lie, is that it's ALWAYS the same questions. They never ask about any other accounts, or details about me, and the fact that I cannot see my report except thru Credit Karma, how can I validate what I didn't do...hence the reason I'm disputing it. Neither of the other CRA give me any issues, they have removed all things that are not mine & I have full access to my reports.
SOMEONE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS. THE FTC CLAIMS THEY NEED MULTIPLE PEOPLE TO BE AFFECTED BEFORE THEY CAN DO ANYTHING. Well, but the looks of the website, many Americans are being affected by Equifax. Why spend taxpayer money on establishing laws & rights, SUCH as the Fair credit reporting act, & FDCPA, if no one is going to uphold them? Furthermore, how is it that Equifax seems to validate lies, but the other two CRA cannot? How is it that this CRA gets away with mishandling millions of consumers Private Information, cause millions of consumers to face Identity Theft, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars, and nothing is done.

This company will do nothing for their customers. I had several negative accounts fall off my report. I saw an increase with the other 2 bureaus but not with Equifax. They never change your score when something positive happens in your file. And even though I have no new negative accounts, as my credit profile gets better it never goes up. I have called many times and the folks working there can never tell me why my score never seems to go up no matter what I do. When these negative accounts were on my file the representatives told me they were the reason for my lower scores, but once they fell off nothing changed.
I have seen a 90 point increase in the other 2 bureaus. But this agency is so lazy, and nasty and so powerful, they do as they wish and they have no concern for doing honest business. That is how they got caught in such a massive breach. Being cheap, and taking short cuts. I do not understand why businesses still use them. I was unable to bring up any results and was told to call. Oh, brother! I spoke with a man who was not understanding my problem at all. He proceeded to open a brand new dispute. He gave me the confirmation number. I then asked him to check the original confirmation number I had given him. He asked me to wait and then cited a dispute from several years ago. I gave him the confirmation number for the third time and he said, "which dispute do you want to know about? There are 15."
At this point, he was useless in explaining so I asked for a supervisor. She finally came on and confirmed that ALL of my creditors were being disputed... EXCEPT FOR THE ONE I WAS DISPUTING!!! I have excellent credit (805) and she assured me my credit would be restored within 30 days of the end of the complete investigation. She said there was no way to stop this. Frankly, I do not trust this company and do not want them anywhere near my credit history. I wish there was a way to shut them out completely. How Ironic, Equifax is there to protect consumers from credit fraud and ensure a persons credit rating is protected against whatever malicious may be out there. The truth is, Equifax is whom the public needs protection from. For the second time in about 4 years have gone into the site to purchase a 1 time credit report I ended up being charged every month for "premier" service, the first time I called and they canceled it, the last time they canceled after trying for 45 min. to tell me the system is down, my info is not popping up, call back another time, the supervisor is not available and just trying to wear me down so I could go away, I persisted but would not reverse the charge.
I called my credit card to dispute charge and the person handling my call told me he was victim to the same scam Equifax runs. You call in to buy a 1-time service to view your credit rating and you are by default signed in to a 1-year contract as stated in the "fine print". Being in Canada I will complain to consumer and corporate affairs and as Equifax is US based I am certain the dept. of justice will have a field day with them as mail and wire fraud is criminal in the US which takes these things extremely seriously especially due to the fact that a company that is there to help consumers takes advantage of its position to itself commit fraud.

All their calls are forwarded to India so I couldn't understand a single word the person said and definitely didn't feel comfortable disclosing my personal information. Then after I did disclose my personal info the person started asking me the same questions that I couldn't answer online. What sense does that make? How could I know anything about accounts that aren't mine. I without a doubt would never send them anything in the mail as I doubt they would even do anything with it. When I asked if there was a protected way for me to send this information I was told I could send it by mail.
As yet this situation is unresolved and talking with anyone at Equifax is a tiresome repetitive pain. They do not listen and offer no realistic solution to this issue. Considering the impact this company has over our ability to buy or secure employment it should be far more customer friendly. It also needs to get with the times and improve their means of communication and protect for consumers.

An honest agency would report accurate information, not Equifax. They lie about verifying the information dispute if they truly they would see that collection agency has no business trying to collect sometime already paid. I submitted a dispute and received an email stating the dispute was ready to review. I clicked on the link they provided, entered ALL my information, answered the security questions and then clicked on the dispute number. I was linked to a blank page. I attempted this process again and received the same results. I started an online chat and was told the dispute site was down and to call 855-332-4646 and spoke with a Rep, provided her with all my information, explained my situation and after all that she told me I needed to write a letter to Equifax asking for the result of my dispute. I explained that I received the email and because their dispute website is down, I shouldn't have to write a letter asking for my results.
I asked to be transferred to her supervisor. After the Rep arguing with me, she finally transferred me. I was transferred to Rose (Supervisor - no last name) and she asked me all my information. I said, "I have provided all my information to the prior agent and if I do that again, I do not want to be told the same thing." I explained that I am just looking to find out my dispute information. She asked for my info again and I provided it to Rose.
After all that done, she tells me I need to write a letter to them asking for the dispute resolution. I was LIVID! I said, "What did I just explain to you and why did I just provide you with my information again." Asked for her supervisor and unfortunately the business phone rang, so I had to hang up. I went to online chat again and explained the situation and asked for another alternative. They gave me another number 800-604-6570. I called the number and it's to order a credit report. About two years ago we got an email indicating Equifax had a security breach and our information was probably compromised, and they would provide us a year of security freeze on our account. That freeze was initially easy to place (Nov 2018). It was also easy for me, for my husband, to place security freezes with Experian and Transunion.
On April 26, I call Equifax and asked to have the freeze lifted as my husband was applying for a loan for a lawnmower. The loan was in his name only. Lifting the freeze with the other two credit bureaus, online, was easy. Lifting with Equifax was a nightmare. I could not do it online even though I credited an account for my husband. I had to call, give the phone to my husband, then answer tons of questions about loans we had years and years ago. I did have our credit report from Equifax so thank God I was able to answer the detailed questions. I did have to give the phone to my husband to verify the rep could talk to me. We lifted the freeze, finally, until July 1 2019. The loan went through fine.
Called yesterday, May 2 to put the freeze back on and horror erupted. The rep told us he had to talk ONLY to my husband, that getting permission for my husband to let me talk to rep in his place was not acceptable. Rep's accent was so strong my husband could not understand or hear him and the call ended up with rep asking us to SEND him vital driver's license, social security numbers, etc., through the mail. No, I won't. I tried to put the freeze back on through their website, with my husband's login info and keep getting message, day after day, site is down, try again later. This company is bogus. No wonder they had a security breach. I am reporting them to whomever I can find to take action for me.

I will have to say that to representatives that I spoke with today on April 25th, 2019 was very unprofessional on so many different levels. I called three different times and spoke with three different people and you could not understand either one of them. One guy sounded like he was talking to someone else while trying to ask me questions. The fact that I am a nurse and don't have a lot of time on my breaks I tried explaining that to him and it was like he didn't care. I asked to speak to his supervisor and was on hold for over 30 mins. To me that is bad management.
Then they had to nerve to tell me in order to get my results from the investigation that I would have to fax a copy of my social security number and driver license with other information. I nicely explained that it was not safe to do that and that it was also a HIPAA Violation to send that kind of information by mail or through a fax. I have never had to deal with unorganized, unprofessional people in my life. I really wish they would teach them how to speak English as well. So I'm just reading all these reviews after many months of attempting to resolve a credit freeze issue with Equifax, and the story being told by everyone else is EXACTLY as it's played out for me too. Equifax can never 'verify my identity' despite being given exact data I'm reading off a balance or account sheet. At one point, I read the account number off my bank statement to Equifax and they still came back with, 'I'm sorry we cannot verify your identity because they information you provided is not correct.' This is criminal. Then they demand that you MAIL IN your social security card, credit card numbers, bank account info, passport, and more.... Does that not sound unsafe to anybody else??
Now, for the last 4 days I've been attempting to reach an agent and have heard (for four consecutive days, and 13 logged phone call attempts), 'I'm sorry our system is currently updating. Please call back in 30 minutes to one hour' from every. Single. Agent. Every. Single. Time. But I think I have it figured out. I'm betting that Equifax lost everyone's data. Think about it. They lost everyone's data and in order to get it back, they're forcing you to re-submit all your documents by mail, or answer questions about your account's history that they SHOULD have on record. Instead they're probably just re-inputting all that data again. Re-collecting, in hopes they can re-build people's accounts before any word gets out that they don't have the data.
This would explain not only the scheme they're running, but also why every. Single. Agent. Is out of the country. I've asked agents on the phone, "where are you located?" Agent: "Indiana." Me: "Where in Indiana." Agent: "I'm sorry sir I cannot provide you with that information." This is criminal behavior and it's utterly enraging that we are FORCED to have our credit accounts impacted by this company. The federal government needs to shut this down.

As it is February but their last update shows December. They had me answer a series of questions and the information they had me verify was all incorrect, they said that my birthday was wrong in the system - how could this be - I would never put my incorrect birthday into their system. It didn't make any sense to me.
They started to give me information on lenders that no longer handle my account as I am currently paying off student loans they had those as incorrect marks. I paid off my car loan. They placed it as a closed account and gave me the wrong Atari marks for that. It was only $2,000 that I needed to pay off to end the car note. Compared to TransUnion everything Equifax have about me is wrong. My credit score with Equifax is literally a 60% difference compared to TransUnion and Experian. I don't know what needs to be done because the people that are handling their calls are rude and generally don't want to assist you. How could this be a consumer reporting agency when all the information is not up to date. So if I am going to look for anything concerning credit because of experience incorrect data incorrect updates and lack of concern for consumers it is affecting my credibility as a borrower. If you try to use Equifax's online system it's a crap shoot if it works or not. I had to dispute several amounts that were already paid but still showing up on my credit report. The first time I tried to dispute these online with Equifax their system would throw security questions out at you, some that are incorrect but I have no way of correcting these random security questions and would be barred from my account online for not having the correct answers. However, the next day I tried again, received more random generated questions that were correct about me and was able to finally get in.
Once I was into the dispute portion for my issues, I started the dispute process. Fast forward to several days later I received via email Equifax's confirmation with a number saying they are working on my dispute and "You may view the results of your dispute online" with a hyperlink to click on to view the status of my dispute. That hyperlink takes you to a form where you fill out your name, SS#, DOB, etc. I put all the correct information in and hit the "Locate my credit file" button. It then cleared the entire form out and I had to start over again.
By the third time, I am giving this message, "We are currently unable to process your request! The information you have provided does not match our records; therefore we are unable to process your request online. Please try again later or submit your request via our secure Online Dispute Form. We apologize for the inconvinience." Yes, it had inconvenience spelled wrong. But more importantly I was unable to get into the status area to see how things were progressing. This isn't the only time I have had to deal with Equifax's malfunctioning site. If you try calling be prepared to have to hold for up to an hour and or get the run-a-round.
I finally sent in some of my disputes by actual "snail mail" but I am not getting a response by snail mail from them, only these generated emails with a number and link to click on that seems to not work. Some "How to" information regarding Equifax... I am still on hold with Equifax. I initiated this call over 90 minutes ago. I spoke to five different people so far. The last is Rocky, ID # **. He is the first person who was able to understand my request, because he was located on the Mainland of the United States -- not in some foreign country.
Based upon what I have been able to ascertain, glean, surmise, guess--when you call Equifax: Begin by asking for the person's name. Insist on that before you are even willing to give them your name. Then, get their employee ID #. If they will not give it to you, ask for a supervisor in an American office. If the agent you are speaking to refuses, hang up and call back. Next, if you hear a heavy accent, ask for an American office. Equifax seemingly has off-shore offices all over the world. When you finally get through to an English-speaking person, confirm their location by asking for the names of the cities in which Equifax has offices. If they fail to say "Atlanta", ask if they have an office in Georgia, without providing a hint. If they do not say "Atlanta", you may be running into your first obstacle.
If any asks if for your full Social Security number, never provide it. Last four digits, that fine. Last six, you are in risky territory. By exerting due diligence at the beginning of your call, you are more likely to succeed in getting an acceptable response from Equifax. Never yell! Chances are that either Equifax does not have a policy regarding your issue, or that they did not tell their employees about that policy, or that the employee does not understand your query. So, call back again. Aloha from Hawaii, Glenn.

It is unfortunate to see so many negative reviews but it's nice to know I am not the only one that has had/is having, a terrible experience with this so-called company. I recently moved to a new Province and was hired by an insurance company. In order to be able to sell insurance I had to write 2 certification exams and then a government exam. I passed all the exams yet I am still not able to get my license because of Equifax. In order to get my license the company I am employed by needs to do a credit check which they are unable to do because Equifax has my wrong year of birth. Therefore, I am unable to work.
It took for 2 weeks to get the number to reach an actual live person (if you live in Canada you understand, the States have a much easier live contact as I reached the States representative no problem). Anyway, I finally reached a live person and they told me to submit proof of my proper birth date therefore I faxed them my dispute form along with my passport and driver's license. I then called them the next day to see if anything had been changed and I was advised that since I didn't put a rush on it it wouldn't be processed for 2 weeks. I was advised to resubmit my paperwork and documents and write a letter explaining the rush I needed. I was also advised that they have two files for me, one with the wrong year of birth and one with the right year of birth. Since they have two files I had to write a letter requesting that my files be combined so they can merge my birth date.
After doing all the above, and signing the dispute form, I receive an email saying they cannot make any amendments on my file and then I need to submit my social insurance number (which I did), sign my dispute (which I did), and submit proof of my date of birth because my fax wasn't legible. I sent my documents in twice, on different days, there is no way both aren't legible. Regardless, they entered my year of birth incorrectly, not me. It should not be a battle to get it changed especially when they have the correct date as well, like just delete the wrong file for goodness sake.
Long story short, this company is making me do all the leg work to right their wrong. This mistake is on their end yet when I dispute their mistake they reject it. Equifax is a complete joke and I don't know why/how it exists. They should be ashamed of themselves. I moved provinces for this job and need to be able to make money. This has been going on for almost a month. It's ridiculous.

I had/have a fraudulent account listed on the three major credit agencies - Experian, TransUnion, and Equifax by an organization called LVNV Funding LLC. July 2018 Certified mail was sent to LVNV Funding LLC asking for a dunning letter of proof they were authorized to collect this debt and that this debt actually belonged to me. As of November 2018 no response had been received so I challenged the entry on all three credit reports - Experian and Transunion deleted the entry after their investigation. Equifax not only left the entry on my credit report, but lowered my credit rating.
Now I am forced to spend more time by composing a letter, with documentation, to put in my Equifax Credit Report laying out in detail the above. I have screenshots of the before and after Equifax "investigation" showing the lowering of the credit score for what I deem as spite akin to a punishing a bad child standing up to a authority figure. Equifax has lived up to everything we hear about them...

It is so terribly sad that this company will drop your credit rating at the drop of a hat. As a small business owner, I have paid nothing late. I don't qualify for low interest rates because this company doesn't look at 18 years of hard work and paying bills. There is no way to fix what they report. It seems a conflict of interest to pay Equifax for anything. Who monitors them anyway.

Equifax sent email to indicated their 1 year free service, after Equifax failure to protect our information, was being cancelled. They said they would remove the lock on my credit bureau and I could get at no cost a security freeze. I filled out their form and created a password and the screen said I was unable to verify code sent to my email. The code was never sent.
A screen appeared to verifying purchase of an auto in 2013 with several screens about the bank name, payments etc. No auto was purchased so I answered none of the above for all of the questions. Equifax locked up everything and gave a toll free number to call. Equifax has done this 2 years in a row when I tried to print out my credit bureau. This is a possible scam to get people to sign up for their service to straighten this out. I called Equifax and answered numerous questions including my last credit card amount and Equifax said I would have to send in copies of my DOB and Social security number.

Firstly, I'd like to say that I worked in customer service for almost 10 years and know how tough the job can be and how little say the representatives have in the processes they're asked to advocate for & present to often-frustrated end users. That said, Equifax is by far the worst process I have had to deal with regarding customer service. The online tools don't work, the phone queues are ridiculously long (called on different days at different hours and had the same experience), the agents read from a script and have very little flexibility in what they can do to assist the caller & the same goes for their supervisors.
My issue was not resolved and I was given a convoluted, archaic process to pursue which is purely internal and not available for customers to read for themselves - the steps and details are only available through a phone conversation. Normally, you could just opt to deal with a different company. Sadly, there are very few options when it comes to massive credit firms like Equifax. If anyone from the company chances to read this, please invest some money in improving your customer service experience - it's a gold-plated ** right now.

To add insult to injury, in their latest dispute confirmation letter (1/11/2019), they even deleted my previous employment record. The worst customer service of any company I've ever dealt with. First of all, every call taker is based in India. Equifax is an American company holding highly sensitive data about nearly every American and they are putting a foreign country in charge of all our private information including addresses, employment information, social security numbers, salary info, credit card data, etc. None of these three agencies should be outsourcing our personal American data to any foreign country or vice versa. We don't have Americans holding the financial information of every Indian citizen in their hands. Think about that for a minute. Cleary they do this to save money, however, they are putting all of our financial data at risk, which may be why they have had so many security breaches in the past.
What are the statistics on identity theft and fraud? Yet, the American government allows these companies with such sensitive data to outsource all of it to poorly paid, incompetent people out of the country! This is total insanity. Who has more to gain by selling American data? For two years now when I have tried to access my annual report, I get an error from Equifax, even though the other two agencies ask the same info. I am not alone. Thousands of people have the same problem. We are all then asked to send copies of our Driver's Licenses and Social Security cards via fax or regular mail. Then we have to verify our data again with customer service reps over open telephone lines providing things like our full social security number, addresses, date of birth, and personal security questions, that could easily be hacked or sold.
Even after all of that, they will only mail a hard copy of your credit report in "7 to 10 business days." Another security risk. You cannot access your report online to dispute the plethora of inaccurate data they have. Both TransUnion and Experian offer online dispute recording and resolution. With Equifax, you have to mail in or call in your disputes and speak with a ESL rep. Something needs to be done with this system. Hire fewer American call takers to handle our data and make sure they are trained in the handling of sensitive data. Hackers are constantly blamed for breaches, however, just like store theft, most loss comes from within a company or organization.

All I asked was a return email from Equifax stating that they are not able to pull my records and hence asking me to send my personal documents via fax/email. I was ready to share my documents copy if they reached out to me via email.
Also, I wonder what difference will it make if I had sent those documents immediately, as all these documents will state the same thing what I gave them several times over phone call. I was never told that my Equifax account had a security freeze placed on it until I tried to lease a car. What is the purpose of these credit monitoring companies? Seriously? When the dealer ran my score I had excellent scores from the other 2 agencies, but my Equifax had a freeze on it. So I called customer service and spent a LONG time in their automated crap service. All that did was waste 30 minutes. Then I went online and tried to figure this out. The other 2 credit agencies were easy to navigate and I could see that everything was fine with my account with them. Equifax online gave me an error and a phone number to call.
Equifax online did give me one option: sign up for $4.99/1st month and then $19.99/month afterwards. "Cancel any time within the 1st 30-days to avoid auto charging of my credit" or something to that effect. I felt I didn't have a choice, so I started signing up. Then their system locked up on me halfway through the signup process. So now I'm paranoid to try to sign up again, because I believe they would charge me for 2 accounts. And I can only imagine how difficult it will be to cancel the accounts once they are established.
This number rang through to India, or somewhere rather fast. At first, I was thrilled to be able to speak with another human. Until the attitude bomb was dropped on me within 30-seconds. Whoa! I kept my cool and tried to deal with the English as a 2nd Language guy on the end of the line. After giving him my address, date of birth, social security number 3 times he finally said he cannot help me and I would have to send in a written request for them to take action. ARE YOU KIDDING ME??? This is 2018. I have to send a paper request in. Insane.
If there is a major problem with my credit I believe I should have a right to know right away. I would go so far to say that Equifax should have an obligation to let me know what the problem is. AGAIN - WHAT DOES THIS COMPANY EVEN DO? I then asked the Equifax guy how long this process would take and he told me that they would "respond" to me in 30-days. Huh??? I have an excellent credit score and I cannot think about getting a car for 30+ days. How is this possible? I was so floored that I told the guy that he was of no use to me and I thought I hung up the phone. Then I let my feelings flow out in a series of curses.
Next, I hear the guy admonish me for my use of foul language. So I can only imagine that he put my bad mojo on my credit report and I'm going to have to beg forgiveness to the credit Gods in India. I can't imagine why they put this freeze on my account, but I am not happy I was not notified about it. And I am even less happy that I am now in a car-less position because of Equifax.
And worst of all - this is the only place I can vent my frustrations. If I could I would FIRE EQUIFAX and never let them around my credit information again. But they are a nameless faceless monster and I can't impact them whatsoever. I am extremely flustered. 1 star was too high of rating for the experience I just had in every way possible. Bad automated phone system. Bad online help system. Bad customer service support. Terrible problem resolution (send in a written request). NONEXISTENT notification of the credit freeze (I don't even know if I have a real problem). Charging me to sign up for monthly service ($19.99/month) to see what the problem is. What does this company do to protect me? To protect business? To protect America? I can only hope that Karma will find their business and place the same pain upon them that they dish out. UGHHHH.

About 2 weeks ago I called TransUnion and Experian to have a fraudulent account disputed and removed from my credit report, both of those experiences went smoothly. So today I decided to call Equifax with the same dispute. I waited 2 weeks because of various reasons: work, plus I’ve heard they’re difficult to deal with so I needed to wait until I had a day off... Anyway I eventually got placed on a line with a non-English speaking gentleman (go figure) who couldn’t understand anything I was saying, making the multiple security questions a 2 hour long process to get through. By the time I had verified who I was to their satisfaction, I was finally able to tell them I wanted a 9,000 charge from Alliance One removed based on false information.
They told me they cannot remove the account, and tried to give me Alliance One number and I explained to them I already called Alliance One with the number they listed on my TransUnion account and that they said they didn’t handle my account and transferred me to multiple other numbers who also didn’t handle the account. So the number was wrong to begin with hence my dispute. The gentleman from Equifax wanted the number I called, but I could not give it to them as it was on my TransUnion report which has since been removed (I called 2 weeks prior to this) so I no longer had access to the phone number. It was like this guy was trying to protect Alliance One and not help me.
So by this time I was getting upset. I asked him why he was giving me such a hard time about something that I’ve already had removed by 2 other major credit agencies. I told him I didn’t appreciate the runaround and how he was trying to keep false information on my account. I told him how it negatively affects my day to day life (and that if and when Alliance One decides to report accuracy on my account that they can at any time). So why give me such a difficult time about having it removed in the meantime? It was absolutely the worst customer service experience I have ever encountered. They do not care about you!!! Only about the credit agencies reporting false information. They do everything in their power to keep it on your account!!! Absolutely insane that the government allows this **.

Every customer service department has given us the runaround, the website won't allow you to create/use a login. You have to unfreeze or dispute anything. All in all, it's been over 12 years, we've faxed them (mail or fax are the only options), all the documents they've requested, numerous times. We've wasted days (not hours, but DAYS) on the phone and we've come no closer to having a clear credit record or a record that an agency can check (due to the freeze) when we need it.

Equifax cannot even access information related to us. In the past few months, we've been rejected for two credit cards after hard inquiries thru Equifax. The credit rating for each of us is over 800. The dealership tried multiple times to check credit. I went back on Tuesday late afternoon. AGAIN, I had to get online, but this time it let me log on. Got the freeze lifted for 7 days. Waited two days and multiple checks by the finance and dealership. Still no lift.
Thursday: First I went online and again LIFTED FREEZE. Called them to complain and to verify. First I was told that the supervisor was unavailable and I could wait or get call back. Decided to try to talk to MEKHI who answered the phone. After going thru their questions, again!! He told me it showed that my freeze was lifted. I complained about the multiple problems and said they were at fault. When I asked for MEKHI's employee number, then Lo & Behold, the supervisor comes on the line. (Thought he was busy?) He insisted it was not their error but the error of the GM Credit company. Then when I wanted to do their survey, I was disconnected. I hope I never have to do that again. I am signing up for LIFELOCK and getting rid of these freezes.

I pretty much had the same exact experience that Renee of Dallas, 10/25/18, had. I was applying for a 'Chase Freedom Visa Signature Card and Chase sent me a letter telling me that I had to call Equifax to either or temporarily my freeze on Equifax sharing my credit information with anyone. I put the freeze in place originally because of the massive security breach had a few years ago and all the local and national news talking heads told us that was one way to protect myself. So, I contacted Equifax per the number on Chase's letter. First they requested the 10 digit PIN on the letter they said they had sent me when I did the originally online freeze of the distribution of my credit info. Who the heck reads or keeps all the stuff that every entity under the sun sends you nowadays!? I don't know where the heck that letter is!
I asked them what else I could do to unfreeze my credit report. Then they started into the questions, and like Renee in Texas, I had a hard time understanding them. They asked me for my full name, my SS number, my date of birth and my home address. They started asking all kinds of other so-called security questions "to verify my identity". I asked why they needed that information (old mortgage accounts, old credit cards, etc) and, of course, they repeated that same mantra "to verify my identity". I told them that I didn't have information at hand on some of that old and, frankly, forgotten information, I asked them what else I could do to convince them that I am who I am. They repeated that they had to ask these security questions to move on with the process of approving my unfreeze of my original freeze.
I was getting very angry at this point and emphasized that I had already verified my full name, my SS number, my DOB and my home address so why isn't that enough to verify my identity? They repeated again, that I needed to answer the security questions "to verify my identity." I told them to get me a manager, which they did. Along with barely understanding the person on the other end of the call, they repeated exactly what the first person had told. I got angry with them and asked this manager what else I could do "to verify my identity". This time the manager told me that I needed to make a copy of my SS card, a copy of my driver's license/ID AND a cover letter of what I was requesting and why I was requesting it. They said that I could fax those copies to them.
I said that I didn't have access to a fax so I asked if I could send them PDF copies via email attachment. They said they did not accept emails with attachments. They did offer that I could send them copies via snail mail to 'Equifax Security Freeze Department' at PO Box 105788, Atlanta, GA 30348, which DID NOT match the address in Chase's letter to me. How would I have know this different address if I hadn't gotten to this point in the conversation? I am not going to make copies of my SS card and my driver's license/ID card to anyone! After all, maybe this is an elaborate scam or phishing attempt to get that information and then be able to easily duplicate my identity??? I wasn't born yesterday!
I called Chase and they pretty much told me that I had to play Equifax's game if I wanted to be considered for their card. They did not volunteer the alternative that maybe they can go to another one of the Big 3' credit verification companies. I will call them back to make that request. I am also going to report this entire situation to the Attorney General of Minnesota, Lori Swanson. She is a superb "voice of the private citizen" activist and has filed suit against many large organizations and companies. Maybe that will get Equifax's attention. I urge all of you disgruntled Equifax customers to do the same in your state. Ms Swanson collaborates with in your fight against this madness!

I have a fraudulent account on my report and Equifax will not remove it. The other 2 reporting agencies removed it immediately, but this unethical agency will not. They say you can add comments but so far after 3 years, I cannot get anyone at this agency to do what they are legally required by law to do. Why is it that these big companies do not have to follow any laws? They clearly state the consumer rights, but the problem is getting them to comply. They just ignore the disputes saying they did the 'research'. How in the world do they decide a fraudulent account is not? Luckily, most lenders know this company is incompetent and do not even use their report system.

I went through Annualcreditreport.com and received two of the three reports, no problem. Equifax, however, would not provide it online and is trying to strong arm me into paying them from simply wearing me down with frustration in hopes I'll just pay to get what I want. The instructions clearly state, "If you close your browser it will no longer be available online." Great, got it! As I was filling out the security questionnaire a Chrome extension popped up. I closed the extension which caused the Equifax questionnaire to start over but did not close the browser and had never caused any problem with any other site before. I filled it out once again only to receive the message I would not be allowed to receive online now even though the browser itself was never closed.
Thinking they would understand and give me a break, I mean I just went online to get it free, how would allowing me to get it free five minutes later be any different? I would have two copies? Why is that a problem? TransUnion even allows you to save as a PDF so you could access over and over or make a trillion copies. If I was successful at getting an Equifax report I could make trillions of copies just by scanning into the printer, so…? It just makes zero sense except that they want to drive you crazy until you tap out and give them money. They’re withholding my information for ransom. How is this legal?!
I spoke to the first customer service rep who went over a ton of security questions. I answered them all. When he asked about my house loan I advised it was just sold from one bank to another. He asked what my balance was with the first bank and I repeated I no longer had a loan there so I would not have a balance there. He repeated this question like 10 times, not exaggerated until I finally yelled 'Zero!' and then he was ready to move on. Are you serious?! To top it off he ended with 'you'll have to get it in the mail in 7-10 business days'. Infuriating!! This is highly inappropriate behavior. I never asked these people to keep track of my personal information and now they're going to abuse me while I try to retrieve it? Wow, there are no words.
But wait, there's more... I asked to speak with a supervisor who started going back over the same security questions. I asked her why we needed to do this again as the previous rep had already spent 15 minutes of my time doing this. She said for security reasons. After MANY more questions, I stopped her and asked 'are you going to advise me I have to wait 7-10 days after I answer all these questions?' She said no. She needed to ask more questions first and continued. I answered all her questions only for her to then say... you guessed it. '7-10 business days'. This was my breaking point. Now I’m angry.
I calmed down and called back later. This rep advised that I needed to go to Equifax.com NOT annualcreditreport.com. I was not in front of my computer at the time so I followed her instructions later. The site has a link and it’s the only link to get your report. You guessed it… annualcreditreport.com. When I was researching how they are allowed to do this I found that Consumer Affairs showing one-star rating, so obviously I am not alone here. I hope a lawyer forms a class action lawsuit. This is certainly not right!!

How is it that my credit is with a company that uses foreigners to talk to and you cannot understand a word that they are saying. I turned in a dispute, but by the way I had to do Webmail for this, because their security questions wants details such as how much was my monthly car payment 6 years ago. How the hell should I remember this. Or you had a mortgage in 2012, who was that with? I remember that it was bought and sold several times, so I have no clue who had it last. Then when you call, they ask these same damn questions. I have a dispute case number and an email stating they have closed my dispute to contact them for the results.
After a half an hour they finally agree that I am who I am and then can't find the dispute, but state that I have no negative claims on my account, which means they deleted it. So once again, my credit is based on an incompetent company and this could be a reason for the banks not to give me a loan!!! Seriously!!! This company should be disbanded!!!

They made me talk to someone else who couldn't access my account using the same info I gave the last person. It went on like this for 45 min before they said they would transfer me to a supervisor of the supervisor because they were incompetent as well. They then left me on hold for 40 min before I hung up and called back which they then argued with me and told me I had the wrong information for my account again. For months now I have been trying to get Equifax to correct an issues they created during a Sunday (upload/download) of data of my credit file. I’m in the middle of trying to close on a home and they stated that one of my new accounts had been in a bankruptcy. This account was not in a Bankruptcy and to make matters worse this account is only two months old which make it appear as if I have been late as recent as two month ago (while I’m in the middle of trying to close). This is severely impacting my score and Equifax is giving me only two options which is dispute it (which I can have anything in dispute status because again I’m trying to close on a home) or I can send in documents stating this account is not in bankruptcy. (Mind Blown!!!)
They want me to prove they made the obvious mistake on my credit file as a public record of filing bankruptcy would appear as well which is clearly doesn’t. It’s not a joint account so there’s no other possibility other than they messed up. I requested them to send me a copy of what they received showing they had the authorization to put this account was in bankruptcy on my credit file and instead I was met with further hostility and frustration. The Supervisor then hung up on me. This is at least my second complaint against Equifax. The other was regarding having my file unattainable because of their systems issues. This has occurred three times this year alone! Now the data integrity is causing me further harm!!

I got an alert from Credit Karma that a new credit inquiry was added to my Equifax report from AT&T. This was alarming to me because I don't have an AT&T contract and didn't try to sign up for any. This inquiry did not show up on my TransUnion report. I immediately went to the Equifax website and filed a dispute. Then I called the fraud department at AT&T. They verified that the info listed on the inquiry was them, but they searched their system for my personal information and couldn't find any record of anyone applying for anything with my name or social.
Since filing my dispute, the Equifax system has refused to let me log back in to check my status, even with the confirmation number they sent me. It tells me that they're unable to process my request because my information doesn't match their records. It's the same information I originally put in to file the dispute. After doing some research, I found out this actually happens to everyone who files a dispute.
After a couple of days went by, I got an email from Equifax saying my dispute had been completed. It had a link for me to log in and see the results, but the system still wouldn't let me in. Getting frustrated, I used the chat feature on their website. The chat person told me they were having "technical issues" with the website (for about 4 days?) and gave me both a phone number and a mailing address I could use to check my status.
I called the phone number. It was an automated system. After putting in all my information (the same information the website says is wrong), I got a pre-recorded message telling me my dispute was complete and I could log into the website to see the results. Then it asked me to either press 1 to replay the message, 2 to check a different dispute or hang up and end the call. There is no option to speak to a representative.
At this point, I can only conclude that Equifax is completely incapable of handling the responsibility they've been entrusted with. I believe the false credit inquiry is their fault, whether it's accidental or intentional. They've had the SAME technical problem with their dispute portal for close to 2 years and haven't fixed it. There have been FAR too many major issues and complaints about Equifax for them to continue operating as a trusted credit bureau. Their business practices should be thoroughly investigated, and, in my opinion, they should be shut down.

In the mail I get a letter, not properly spelling my name, saying information was incorrect and to provide my full SS# and other forms of ID in order to facilitate my request, keep in mind this was sent almost one month later. I will not do that considering they have my name wrong.
I then get a letter addressed to my proper name stating my address has changed (which again is the fraudulent address used to open the cards) and I have to contact them AGAIN. Not only was I victimized by the thieves, but worse by the Bureau that is supposed to protect my identity. They don't listen to what I say, put me on hold forever and then never get back to me waiting for me to hang up, totally unprofessional and when I provide proper information they say mine is wrong. I just got the "results" of their investigation; however, when I try to access it I can't because they say I did not properly answer the questions.
I tried again and it won't allow me back in to it and I have to call them AGAIN. Of course it takes forever to get through to them because I have to go through numerous people to try and speak to someone in the US Fraud Dept. This is totally unacceptable, unprofessional and has been a waste of my time to prove who I am because even in writing, with proper ID and proof, they don't believe ME.

I've been hacked more than once. Just when I think everything is resolved, it starts again, charges on my credit card etc. I have changed my credit card 3 times, the first time I under a free sample which was really my fault because it was actually a membership where they send you skin care product every month and charge you over $150 US for skin care you can buy at pharmacies for $60. It was on the Fifth Estate, a Canadian that lived in California. Fool me once, but not twice. I have a new credit card. Do not order online anything anymore. I realized it started again getting charges on my credit card. Looking back what I did in the last month. I had purchase a monthly service with Equifax so I can check my credit score again, and to make sure nothing negative. Sure enough I see my credit score is low 585, after paying well no late payments for 6 years.
I sent them a letter to complain, also I seen I had a collection that pop out of nowhere amount $1200+. I needed a loan, so I paid it off and would dispute it with company after. Sure enough it was a pay loan that I did not apply for in 2015 through a company that doesn't exist anymore. That was the year I started to work for CIBC and was hacked through my email. I had to change all my accounts, passwords, debit, credit card. I was also with TD bank and had to change everything there also. They tried to get a loan, got the alert, "Congratulation your loan has been approved". Equifax says I will have a hard time getting a loan due to my credit score. If I can't get a loan, but a criminal that applies for a loan online is approved, something is wrong with their system.
I can't dispute with company to get my money back, but at least remove the collection report off, and bring my credit score to normal. Who are the people that work for this company, CIBC hacking was a technician that was laid off so he sold data to black market. Ever since banks have outsource work to other countries like India. We have problems with hackers, and stealing identities.

By far, THE WORST of the credit bureaus to deal with. None of the features work on their website. I was in the middle of submitting a dispute (for two companies) and then automatically booted out of the system. So, I try again...answering all of the security questions and begin the process over again... to be booted out of the system RIGHT BEFORE pressing the submit button. Alas, I try a third time, except this time the system does not recognize me. At all.
I try Chat. They are unable to help me and provide me with a phone number to call... they give me the wrong phone number. I find the right number online... however, they too are unable to help me. Apparently, the only way I resolve an issue at this time is to send them a letter in writing. Seriously? This cannot be true, so I request a manager. Luckily, the manager was able to assist me with processing my (2) disputes (which took a whole 3 minutes to complete). Fast forward a week later, I receive an email re. the status of one of my disputes. Excited, I try to review the results. I click the link to view my results. The link is broken, it doesn't work. The accounts referenced are several years old; one of them is even a duplicate. So, this company can use its systems irresponsibly, and still have the power to have hold of your financial future. Why they still possess such a stronghold in the credit industry is perplexing -- they have already proven they cannot handle data responsibly.

I disputed inaccurate information on my report. It was a charge from a collector I had no knowledge of. I was positive it was not mine but how can you prove an account is NOT yours? Multiple disputes with Equifax and they always came back with same response saying the information was accurate. To prove to myself what I already knew I disputed the balance reporting on an account that had not updated and was paid off 45 days prior. I have a receipt showing the balance on this account is $0 and paid in full. AGAIN, EQUIFAX SAID INFORMATION WAS ACCURATE AND HAD BEEN VERIFIED AND THE BALANCE WAS $4300.
I had contacted the creditor before I sent the dispute and made sure the balance was 0$. This is undeniable proof that Equifax DOES NOT investigate disputes per FCRA. I will be seeking legal advice because the impact Equifax has on peoples lives is huge and they have a responsibility to report accurate information. It’s bad enough their security is weak and hackers steal millions of identities because of it and then don’t even own up to that. Now I proved they don’t even investigate disputes. They should be dismantled as a CRA and pay punitive damages that are unprecedented.

On May 11th, I ordered a copy of my 3 bureau credit report. The report did not show any credit history. I contacted (by email) Equifax customer care. 3 days later, they closed the case without providing any information as to what they did to correct the situation. I then contacted them by Chat and for some reason, in the middle of the conversation, the Chat was disconnected.
When I reconnected, I was told to call them the next day between 0800 and 5 pm. I then emailed them again and was told that I may have a freeze on my credit report and would need to contact them by phone. I checked my account and no such freeze was placed on my report. So I called them at exactly 8 am, provided the case number and after a bunch of questions I was told that I contacted the wrong department and to call a different number from 9 am to 5 pm. (The number that I called was the number they provided to me to try and resolve the issue.) Getting frustrated, I contacted them by chat again and now I'm being told that I need to call a different number from 10 am to 5 pm. I keep getting the run-a-round. I paid for my 3 bureau report and got nothing except of the perpetual loop of "Call this number, Call that number, call at this time or that time".

When I ask why it says my information is incorrect, they say, "I do not have access to that information." So I ask if there is anyone I can speak to that DOES have access to that information.
They all repeat the same response over and over again, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience but the website sometimes does not work." Or, "I do not have access to that information." There has to be SOMEONE who can figure this out. TransUnion and Experian helped WONDERFULLY when I was trying to remove false information. Equifax is a poor excuse for a credit reporting company. If these people lose their credibility with many cases I DO NOT KNOW WHY BANKS and other still use their "UNFAIR" evaluation. First off hold times are ridiculous if you call first thing in the morning when on the East Coast. I have experienced holds of over 25 minutes on more than 1 occasion and finally had to hang up as I have other things to do. Longer holds more understandable if calling after that as more time zones would be calling in. Why not set up a call queue like many companies have to return calls in the order received. Secondly, why do I have to input answers to all questions if you are not yet open? Why not advise us to call back during business hours and state what that is, INCLUDING time zone.

I have had many bad experiences with Equifax. The website is virtually unusable, and I am very computer literate. I will describe as an example my attempt to access my dispute resolution information just a few minutes ago. I had received an email saying a dispute was resolved and it had a confirmation number that must be used to access my report online. I went to the website and the dispute resolution page where I was given a form that included that number and asked for my biodemographic information, including previous address. Because I have auto populate software, it took me about 1 minute to complete the form, but when I submitted it I was told that the process had timed out. I repeated the process, timing my entry, in less than one minute and was again told I was timed out.
I used the chat feature, which was slow and the agent was rude and closed the chat to stop me from commenting, but during the chat gave me a phone number for dispute resolution. I called that number, and after a long series of messages saying to use the website, I waited for an agent. I got one in a reasonable time but could barely understand him. He gave me a verbal report and when I asked for a paper copy he agreed to send it but had an address from over 4 years ago listed as current, despite my multiple attempts to correct biodemographic data on the website. I then tried the automated service again and this time wasn't timed out. But then you are required to answer 5 questions about credit accounts to "verify who you are." I have seen that page on multiple occasions, and despite being certain about the information I entered have always been told it doesn't match Equifax records and am denied entry.
Generally I have found that virtually every question they ask me requires me to use the "none of the above" answer, so knowing that they must give trick questions to keep you from accessing your information I carefully scrutinized the questions this time and detected that one of them asked about my getting a bank card on a certain date. I knew that the card was from Credit One, but it was not one of the options.
I Googled Credit One and found a site detailing the many complaints against the company, and in that document found this: "Credit One cards are issued by Credit One Bank of Las Vegas, which is a subsidiary of Sherman Financial Group" so I answered the question of "what bank offered the card" as Sherman Financial Group and got access. So that was what they deemed to be the correct answer was absolutely wrong, and to beat them at their game, I had to NOT correctly answer the question as "Credit One Bank" because that would have denied me access to my information. Instead, I had to know that an obscure financial group that owns the actual Credit One Bank was being deemed by Equifax as the correct answer. That is absolutely wrong.
Now I understand why I have tried to get access through that question bank on many occasions and have always been told my information was incorrect, when I knew it WAS correct. But this time I managed to get past the trick question and was given a link to view my results, and the LINK DID NOT WORK. I tried every trick I know of... I tried control+click, I tried right clicking to open in a new window or edit or view the URL behind the link... Nothing worked. SO AFTER AN INCREDIBLY ONEROUS PATH TO THE LINK, THERE WAS NO WAY TO GET TO MY REPORT. This is just one example of how horribly Equifax treats paying customers.
After trying to use the Equifax website for several months I have concluded that they actively obstruct customers from accessing the information they pay for. And like many of the other reviewers on this site, I have also found that Equifax data on my credit report is incomplete and largely wrong. Experian and TransUnion have very similar data and have a reasonable method for disputes, and they both complete the investigations and fix the errors in a timely fashion. Equifax data is totally different from the other two reporting agencies, generally wrong, and very difficult to get corrected. How is Equifax allowed to exist with security breaches, bad data and absolutely horrible customer service?
Equifax is the worst business entity that I have ever encountered. They should be shut down. I also have found that few, if any, lending agencies even use Equifax. So they really aren't used by most lenders, I can't get them to fix all of the errors in my report and I generally can't access the dispute initiation or results pages on their website, I am just no longer paying for their LACK of service. If I could give them a negative star rating it would be some infinitely negative number of stars. I'll have to settle for one star, but they don't deserve that.

I contacted Equifax multiple times at various times of the day and ALWAYS get the same caution "We are experiencing extra-ordinarily high volumes at this time". So I try a CHAT sessions during regular weekday hours. 3 times NO response whatever after the initial pre-call welcome stuff. The 4th try, someone apologizes and declares they are busy. Well, I expect they are busy ALL the time. The system isn't designed to handle volume.
The phone service utilizes non-native reps that are often VERY difficult to understand. The Lock & Alert app to lock and unlock your credit freeze is great in theory. Still, you get a letter after EVERY interaction to confirm what you did on the app. Hardly efficient even if it is driven by computers. Trying to get information via email doesn't exist. A timely call-back to the customer would be a nice service but doesn't exist so you are placed on hold. No indication of your place in the queue as most large companies offer. YES, it's a big company servicing untold millions of people BUT in an era of digital communications it appears that Equifax simply doesn't care and it works under woefully outdated processing.
Now I must wait "up to 30 days" for a confirmatory letter that acknowledges AND confirms the erroneous data has been corrected and my identifying info submitted last week is acceptable for that correction. MANY large companies offer a secure email service and utilizes some software like Adobe Sign to get electronic signatures. In my situation, the change of banks to get a change in check deposits should and could be far more seamless. A bank certification should be the simplest way to do this but isn't even on the radar. Trying to accomplish all of this creates much angst and large companies like Equifax simply don't care enough to update their systems to accommodate the volume of customers that depend on them. My mantra has been and will continue to be "Bigger is NOT better".

After news broke about the Equifax breach, I went about freezing my credit with all three major credit reporting agencies, including Equifax. I did so using the online portal where I gave them all the usual information. In return, I was given a PIN to be used to lift the freeze at a later date. Well, now it's that later date. I tried using the online portal per instructions, but it stated that my request could not be processed then provided steps to mail my request. They want me to put my sensitive information as well as copies of my ID, another form of identification (such as a bill), and PIN to verify that it is me. That's all fine and dandy, but I'm not exactly confident in sending this physically to them through the mail. So I tried calling them directly. The number given would only begin a freeze or issue a credit report, despite stating that I could request a lift.
Eventually, I found another number that allowed me to talk to actual people. The person I spoke to did not provide me with a name, employee ID, or any other means to reference him or the call. He also had such a thick accent that I didn't understand half of what he was asking of me. Now, I am not usually a person to get upset over such a thing, because I can't criticize someone's grasp of a second language when I only speak one; but when it comes to a job that requires communication via the phone, I really do believe that people should be chosen based on how clearly they speak. That's not the employee's fault, that is the business's.
It was obvious that the employee was frustrated with me when I kept making him repeat himself - not his fault, but, then again, it's not mine, either. I gave him the PIN that was issued to me multiple times. Despite giving that, though, I also had to provide the following: The name of any creditors I had active accounts with AND the balance of those accounts, all the debts I owed AND the balance of those, and also the date I first started the freeze. I understand that this is all meant to verify who I am and protect my credit, but that is the point of the PIN! It was beyond frustrating because I had to access this information right then and there (thank goodness I use a service that aggregates all this for me in an easy to use format that is readily available).
Unfortunately, by the end of the process my request to lift the freeze was denied because I could not recall the date that it was started. I could verify my lines of credit and debt, but not the date that I signed up. I wasn't given an e-mail with this information, nor were there instructions to record the specific day for future use, and I didn't imagine it'd be - that - important. (Silly me.) Had I know all this I would have had the information recorded and prepared. Instead I was left scrambling with this person on the phone steadily getting more and more aggravated with me. Afterwards, I demanded to know if there were alternative methods of unfreezing my credit. He couldn't tell me anything, didn't even mention that it could be mailed, and was generally unhelpful.
I asked to speak to a supervisor to at least see if THEY could give me more information, but he told me that they would ask the same questions and that nothing else could be done. Again, I know that this is meant to protect my information, but they have made the process at all user friendly, and I feel like my credit is being held hostage by an irresponsible company that can't be trusted to protect that information in the first place. This has delayed mine and my husband's to move forward with a small loan to complete a renovation so I can sell our house. My only alternative is to risk sending my personal information through the mail and hope that 1) it isn't stolen and 2) hope that Equifax actually performs the lift. Needless to say, I'm not at all confident that they will bother.

Right now both our reports are clean except for Equifax which continues to report outdated debts that they are no longer supposed to report. Our scores on Equifax are 80 points lower than the other agencies.

My information was compromised due to the Equifax negligence. I contacted Equifax about this information. Equifax has granted the TrustedID program and waiving the freeze fee by Equifax. However, there are other agencies where my information is at risk due to what Equifax has done. I have to put a freeze on my account with those agencies as well. Those freezes cost money. Equifax should cover the fees of putting these freezes on my account with other agencies because without the negligence from Equifax I would not have to put these freezes on my account.

Okay August 2nd Equifax contacted Mandiant, a professional cyber security firm to help the company assess what data has been compromised. With help from Mandiant, Equifax was able to determine a series of breaches had occurred from May 13th through July 30th. Tell me why I get a letter from AT&T December 14th just a few days ago and not Equifax.
I have no service with AT&T. I never had service with AT&T but I received the letter from AT&T with my name on it stating that I am possibly a victim of Equifax data breach, confused I do what the letter asks. I put in my info on the website. I get information back stating that I am victim of the data breach that my information was exposed. I tried to sign up for this stupid free service for 30 days or whatever but the website wasn't allowing me to. Kept giving me an error so I call Equifax phone number I tell him what AT&T sent me.
I inform him that I don't really understand what's going on and if he can please explain it to me to help me understand better what a data breach is and what information of mine was exposed, he was so rude. The first words that came out of his mouth was so rude, he said "you don't know what a data breach is?" "That's why they have Google." "Why don't you search it. Maybe you should." "Maybe you should try to get informed about what's going on with your information." I told him I am. That's why I'm calling Equifax because Equifax should know! Then I told him, "Thank you for nothing," and hung up.
If you don't know how to treat someone then you shouldn't be working with customer service and Equifax is so not a responsible company obviously. Look how long it took for me to receive info about what happened to my info. And on top of it all Equifax wasn't even the one who informed me!! It was great old AT&T and it wasn't even their responsibility.

Equifax reports soft inquiries as hard inquiries such as Apartment Renter's credit checks, opening a new internet account etc. Transunion and Experian count these as soft inquiries. Equifax also has no data validation process for reporting medical delinquencies. My Equifax credit file shows a medical delinquency for a hospital I never visited and dates of service during which I was on extended visit out of state (Other friends have had similar issues with Equifax only). What a joke. Not to mention their data breach. Undermines all credit reporting this country. Shut them down.

A Negative mark appeared in my credit report. TransUnion removed the mark within 24 hours and Experian removed it within 5 days. Equifax however has taken their sweet time (3 weeks and counting). By law, credit bureaus need to add/remove information depending on other credit reports. Equifax has refused to remove the mark even after the collection agency withdrew their collection and Comcast has already stated I owe nothing. Equifax is absolute garbage and after the data breach I can't believe this bureau is still allowed to exist. I saw the TransUnion reviews on this site. Some of you have no idea. TransUnion is heaven compared to Equifax. I hope none of you ever have to deal with the garbage that Equifax can offer you.

Contacting Equifax either online or by phone was a painful experience. I attempted to put a temporary lift my freeze & was unable to do so online so I tried via their CS phone number. After listening to endless babble I finally reached an operator who's native language wasn't American English & was difficult to understand. My greatest frustration here was the website experience, my second was finding the phone number & then having to listen to unnecessary babble rather than being able to go directly to a CS rep!

So like others on here I thought I would do the credit freeze because I did not want my identity stolen. I went on right after they started doing it entered all of my info and kept getting the error so I just said forget it. Fast forward 2 months and I ACTUALLY want to get a credit card. I have been going back and forth between Equifax and my bank and I never DID get it unlocked. They claimed I needed a pin to unlock it online but because it never went through I never got confirmation of the freeze NOR this elusive pin. Now my bank can't get in and after I tried to unlock it just for them and finally just took the freeze off altogether. The bank says it is still frozen and Equifax said it is on my bank's end and the bank says it is on Equifax's end.
Needless to say I have excellent credit and can't even use my OWN credit because they have locked me out. Thank god I am not trying to buy a car or home. I don't know how I will EVER get it unfrozen because I have done EVERYTHING they have said to do and it is NOT working. I am furious. And the most ridiculous part is we as consumers have NO choice. It is not like we CHOSE to have these jerks have our info. I am livid and there is NOTHING I can do because Equifax is incompetent and the bank isn't helping much either. Equifax said to have them call their business number and they said they can't which I don't believe either. As much as I wanted this rewards card it is probably for the best because I honestly have had issues with this bank in the past. Such BS!!!

Yesterday, I received a notice from Equifax, dated Oct 13,2017, that I am one of the 2.5 million additional potentially impacted U.S. consumers that has personal information was potentially exposed. Put in all required information in the website but when I got to the last page (setting up a password) - a message popped up telling me there was an enrollment error and I could not enroll and providing a customer service number to call to activate.
The site would not let me try to enter info again - Just kept returning to the error page. So, I called the number - they wanted my complete SS# - which I will not provide over the phone. They got very rude and told me they were hanging up on me and if I called back, they would hang up again. Something has to be done about the attitude of this company. Today they told me I have been assigned to this consumer affairs department and any time I need to have my credit report run I will need to call them and they would have to ok the credit pull. I am not allowed any online monitoring or internet access to my report. I've been trying to contact Equifax online and over the phone for three hours to lift the freeze and haven't been able to have my request fulfilled. They don't have access to customer service at all! All their phone numbers refer to automated systems which also don't work and offer you to send requests via mail!
One customer service representative whom I got on the so called 'dedicated call center' line at 866-447-7559 was very rude and unprofessional and refused to help me or to refer me to a person who would be able to help. He also denied my request to speak to a supervisor and simply hang up on me! I have never had to deal with so unhelpful and unprofessional business. Equifax should be especially attentive to its customers now after the data breach, but it seems that the company doesn't care about its reputation at all. Currently I cannot access my account with Equifax and was unable to activate my wife's account. I was told I would have to lift the freeze on Experian and TransUnion to get enrollment which would cost me another $40 in fees. (Equifax freeze changes are currently free). Each time I called back, I was asked for a confirmation # and was told there was not any evidence a request for the lift was requested. Of course I spoke to a foreigner each time so on the last call I requested to speak to a Supervisor.
I was asked why and I explained that none of the cust service representatives were helping me. After another 10 min hold, a so-called Supervisor went thru the same steps as the others. Well needless to say, she did nothing. The freeze is still on my report, and no one works on the weekend at Equifax. Equifax should be fined big time and their people need more training. In light of the recent breach of millions of consumer data and the articles written about such I've decided to highlight a few key points that for whatever reason simply are not being metioned: 1- The consumers whose data was held by Equifax had no bearing in the first, second or third place on their data reaching Equifax at all. Their data was sold to Equifax via many public and private institutions with no choice much less any notification to the consumers. Therefore it is entirely the complete fault of Equifax that the data was breached. Brings me to point 2:
2- All Equifax could offer consumers was a choice to "freeze their credit," however not without first paying a fee to Equifax to do it. Excuse me!! A FEE! FOR Equifax's personal screw up! Are you kidding!? How DISGUSTING IS THAT!? 3- IF Consumers wished to pay the fee, and then freeze their credit, they would be issued a pin number to unfreeze it. God forbid a consumer loses that pin, they would be stuck in a 3 month battle with Equifax trying to claim they are who they say they are, yet Equifax never tried to prove any identification of the consumer in the first place when purchasing that consumers data.
4- An article in ConsumerAffairs news states a large percentage of consumers have not froze their credit. I say good! Why bother with that hassle, especially when the number of consumers data allegedly hacked and stolen totals enough to make sense that one consumers data stolen being used further is the equivalent of that consumer hitting the lottery as far as chance is concerned.

After initiating the enrollment process in TrustedID since my information was among that which was compromised, I eventually received an email to finalize the product. This link did not work. I called the help number in the email and spoke with someone I could barely understand who confirmed my identity after I answered some questions and said that he would have another email sent within 48 hours. This email never arrived, and I always checked junk mail box. After waiting about two weeks, I called the Equifax support number (866-447-7559) and spoke with someone who directed me to the TrustedID number (866-640-2273).
Calling this number only led me through automated prompts and when I was led to speak to someone, was left on hold with no hold music/message, indefinitely, no matter which option I tried (called back several times after waiting so many minutes in silent). I then called the first number back and spoke to someone else who gave me this number to call: **. I called that number, and that person explained that I should have received an email with a log-in ID and temporary password. I never received that email, needless to say (and we confirmed my email account). She tried to transfer me to speak to someone in customer service in order to request that they send another email since she did not have the authority to do so (888-548-7878) but explained that line was busy and recommended calling at 5 pm.
I tried calling just now and received a busy tone (no automated message or option to wait for an answer). This is by far the WORST customer service I have ever received, especially considering the reason I have had to waste so much time doing all of this is due to Equifax's own security breach. It is bad enough that even occurred and that we have only one year of the free service (really, it should be freely provided indefinitely). It has become an awful experience that I can't even complete the enrollment process, and dealing with such inadequacy has left me with zero faith in this agency that unfortunately has all of my information. With such failure, this agency shouldn't exist.

I had to stop her and state and restate and restate two more times that the process should take 72 hours, as she read off also, I was told I just have to wait. She gave me the excuse their system was down a couple of days and I responded does that total 15 days? She would not put me through to a supervisor; I guess they are all following the executives out the door!
I finally hung up and called back and got Cathy who at least was courteous and attentive and appeared to actually care. Can you believe they can't even confirm on notifying TrustedID for an individual who has enrolled, like me? I'll make this short: TrustedID phone was BUSY every time I called. I say close Equifax down and let Experian be the boss. I already have my credit frozen there, plus they actually have people that answer the phone who know what's going on and can get your issue resolved! I really do think the best resolution is to shut Equifax down completely and purge/totally wipe out ALL DATABASES. I don't see a need for 3 credit service companies. In the wake of the hacking of Equifax, my wife and I tried to put on credit freezes. We filled out the online application. After a few days, we each got email responses saying that due to the volume it would be a few more days before we could activate our accounts online. After about ten days my wife got an email. She tried to activate the account from her home in London and was told she couldn't do it in that country. She forwarded the email to me and I tried to activate it from US. I put in her birthday as was first requested prior to being forwarded to the page for security questions, which I probably could answer.
After hitting "continue," the page crashed. Could not get to the security questions. I tried again and was informed online that the freeze had been set up. How, if the security questions had not been answered? Called customer service and was reasonably told that I couldn't do anything for my wife. We will have to wait until she is here because it takes forever to get a live person on the line, if at all.
So, I moved over to dealing with my freeze activation, since I hadn't gotten an email for that purpose. Gave the agent my email and phone numbers. She couldn't find an account for me. Told her that Equifax had sent me an email saying that my activation email would come in a few days. She told me I'd have to apply again. Went online and tried to apply again for a freeze. Only got to a page that gave me the option of lifting a freeze. Called customer service again and this time the call was disconnected every time the automated voice said I was being forwarded to a live agent. However, when I requested credit scores through Karma, I got a totally different credit score (but these are scores which I believe are correct based on previous experience).
