This was the best food I found for my cats. I like that it is grain free, high protein, good ingredients, and affordable. I noticed when my cats are on Taste of the Wild, they stayed trim and fit, ate less food, and pooped less. I could really see the difference in my cats' weight from changing from cat food with grains to grain free.

I had been feeding my dogs TOTW High Prairie Grain-free food for the past year. All was well until this last bag which made both my dogs sick after they hesitated to eat this newest bag. As it turns out, I called the manufacturer and they have swapped ingredients for cheaper, crappier compounds. There is NO warning on the bag that the formula has been changed. They will try to blame you for your dogs' being ill before acknowledging the change in ingredients. Don't fall for it and don't buy this food or trust this dog food manufacturer. My dogs are ill and didn't have to be if I had just had the luxury of a banner on the bag that says "new ingredients" or "new formula" or anything at all indicating they changed the food's ingredients. This manufacturer needs to be shut down so dog owners are not duped by non-disclosure of new ingredients or changed formula. Shut them down! Haven't they killed and made enough dogs sick yet?

We adopted a dog from a rescue a few years ago and they gave us a sample of Taste of the Wild. We decided to try it with our other dogs as well and they went crazy for it! Our picky eater who would graze on everything suddenly started gobbling up all of his food. I love the limited and high-quality ingredients and genuinely believe my dogs are healthier because of this food. For many years, I have fed my beagle Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream. He liked it (of course, beagles will eat almost anything) and it gave him a lustrous coat. It also was recommended by friends. But the last two bags (well within their expiration date) have been problematic. One bag contained oil at the bottom of the bag. I threw the rest of the dog food away. The second bag also had oily food at the bottom. When I tasted it, it was very salty, which explained why my dog was drinking so much after eating. Very suddenly, my dog became very sick, with extreme lethargy, loss of appetite and vomiting. The vet reported bad liver enzyme levels. I am very distressed and concerned that the dog food may have caused the problems.
Update- We are glad that Loper got over his nonspecific illness and that he's still enjoying eating Taste of the Wild

I got Pitbulls and Bullies and they have had litters probably twice a year in the last four years. People should use Taste of the Wild. Most of my family use it during the puppy stages and they usually sell the puppies at eight weeks. Occasionally, I give buyers a small bag of TOTW when they buy the puppy and take them home. I tell them that the puppy should be eating that for almost nine months to a year. I add a little water and I use the blue bag. Eating TOTW helps the digestive tract, the muscle intake and the diet. Generally, when the puppies eat the cheaper food, their bowels are soft and running. But when they eat TOTW and better dog foods, they have a solid one.

But my Shepherd slash Malamute mix, Shibu and Pitbull like it and they notice when it's Taste of the Wild. We don't get it that often but it’s one of the better grain-free dog foods on the market. I used to feed my dogs a raw diet, and then I'd gotten to where I couldn't afford it, so I switched to dry food. I got a puppy and she was eating Taste of the Wild then she got a growth on her. My other dog had a growth too. The only thing that I changed was their pet food, so I wondered if it was the pet food that was causing these growths. Taste of the Wild appeals to me, from the marketing to the dog food bags with pictures on them and the ingredients, and I wanted to keep feeding it, but I need to make sure my dogs are not getting more growths. My one dog has had a couple of them, while the other dog had one.
I switched from Taste of the Wild to a different food, and there was another growth, so I contemplated on it.. I'm trying to figure out what in the world is causing that. I've talked to other people about Taste of the Wild and I've voiced my concerns, but my conclusion right now is it's not necessarily Taste of the Wild. My experience recently has been less than enjoyable with Taste of the Wild. I left a review explaining how my 3 giant breed dogs loved your food. I explained that I had fed them this food for many years. When the review asked what you could do better, I was honest and questioned the lessening of volume and the rising of price. I was not rude, unprofessional or impolite. I received a prompt automated response stating that my review was not in compliance with policy and could not be posted.
I spent time sharing when asked by the automated emails, was truthful and was given no reason other than a "do not reply" email stating "no thank you". For this reason I have unsubscribed from all further advertising and now cannot honestly say I would recommend your food based on the way I felt I was treated. My dogs love your food and I feel it is still the healthy choice for them but the way your company treats loyal customers, leaves a bad taste in my mouth. These are my honest experiences and I am unsure if one email said my review was not acceptable. I do not know why I would receive another thanking me for my review. I got a mutt that looks like a pit bull and Lab mix. We know she's part pit bull because she has that frame, but she's a little leaner. She was a stray, so we estimated that she was about eight months old at the time. She might be a little less than four years now. She's a pet and I just her to be healthy. Taste of the Wild was the one that had the lowest amount of carbs that was widely available and I've exclusively used that. I started out with the one that was mainly venison, a forest style one, but then I switched to the Southwest because it uses more pork and garbanzo beans.
I've noticed my dog gain a bit of weight, but I can't say it's attributable to the dog food because we have a three year old who is constantly hooking her up with extra food. To be fair, we sometimes hook her up too, so she may be about five pounds overweight, but she's in great health. She has a ton of energy, so it helps her maintain a high energy level and good joint health. She's a rock star on the Frisbee too.
I hope they are able to somehow formulate a total ketogenic ratio for dogs because I want my dog eating as few carbs as possible. I know it's tough to come up with that in a healthy formulation that's also maintaining a price point, but I'm happy with the results overall. I hope it contributes to her long-term health. I would recommend Taste of the Wild if you're going to get a food that's widely available that isn't like some high-end especially formulated super expensive dog food. It has a price point and it's a little bit higher than a lot of dog foods, but I appreciate the attention to the dog’s health.

The female is 10 years old and we've had her for a long time. She's playful. I don't take her on walks anymore but she always wants to go out on a short walk. The other one is a male and he's about five. He goes with me on the long walks every day. Taste of the Wild seems like a steady player and the dogs like it. We haven’t had any issues with it and they're always interested in dinner. The dogs are very healthy. They don't have skin issues or other problems. I'm a breeder and I had a male and female Bichon Frise. They're AKC so I let them have some litters, which they did. But now, I’ve decided to retire them. I’ve been using Taste of the Wild since 2016. It’s not that long but it’s a lot of bags of dog food. I would buy the puppy one also because the Bichon Frise would have hotspots every once in a while.
When I first got my female, I just used what they gave me. It wasn’t necessarily grain-free and she was chewing on one spot and she would pull all the hair off. So, when I found out that people were suggesting to go grain-free, that was when I first found the Taste of the Wild at the feed store. I tried that and she stopped immediately with the hot spots. Then when I got my male, I put him on grain-free. And when the puppies were born, I went to a puppy Taste of the Wild grain-free because I figured I'm gonna just start them out right with a grain-free. That was what I encouraged people who bought the puppies also and sent them specifically Taste of the Wild brands. I always sent them an extra bag full of it and a picture of what I was giving them and telling them where to get it.
I was buying the small breed adult grain-free Taste of the Wild and then when I bought the puppy, it turned out that the puppy was larger than the small breed adult. That was weird but I'm sure the nutrients were specifically for puppies, which was why I stayed with the puppy for them. But as I'm moving them to dry dog food away from nursing from the mother, I would wet it down with a puppy formula and then eventually just with water and let it soften up and then squish it up and make a gruel to feed the puppies with so they could get their teeth all in good. Then I would give the regular with the hard chunks. My adult dogs took the time that they would not eat the dry dog food unless I put water on it because they were used to trying to steal the puppies’ food and they wanted water with it just like for the puppies.
Now, it’s back down to the two of them and I have no puppies to worry about. I was using TOTW but it’s a little higher-priced so I tried NutriSource, which is grain-free also consisting of quail and duck. Even though I mixed it in slowly and got them used to it, when it was straight on that one, they threw it up, each one separately. So, I'm not gonna try to deter away from the Taste of the Wild anymore. I'll go back to buying that. I just bought a little bag. Overall, TOTW is good. I wish though that it has a grain-free for weight control.

We were breeders of Bulldogs, so we used Taste of the Wild for a long time, probably 10 plus years. They had the best puppy food that we could use to grind up and soak. It would soak it up really well and it ground up really well. Our experience had been really good. Bulldogs have really sensitive stomachs and skin issues. But we never had any of that with Taste of the Wild. They didn't have the allergy issues that we had with some of the dog food. We used their puppy formula pretty much all year round ‘cause we had puppy litters every year. Then, we had the salmon formula and then a meat one with the bison. Those ones were good. We’d go with this bison for five months and then we’d switch it to the salmon. When they got the salmon, they would go nuts because it was different. Then when we brought the bison back, it would be the same thing.

I used to be a Poodle breeder. I advised a client to buy Taste of the Wild with Ancient Grains. Dogs need to be on a totally grain-free diet as it has been demonstrated that humans are giving them heart attacks. In the wild though, dogs don't totally eat grain-free. So, I always make sure that there's grain in dog food that I recommend to my clients. Taste of the Wild is good quality dog food for its price point. However, the package disappoints me. They currently say that they use globally sourced ingredients from trusted partners. They didn't use to buy ingredients from out of the country. That gives me pause to not recommend their food is because it's not sourced in the United States.

The one we use is grain-free. I've been using it for two years and she definitely enjoys the food. We also rotate the flavors every time we buy a bag. We have been buying dog food from this place called DogSupplies.com. They have a warehouse in Huntersville, North Carolina and we've been dealing with them for 10 years. They recommended Taste of the Wild to us and we've been using it for less eight years now. So far, our dog is very healthy. He's got a little bit of hip dysplasia, but he's about 12 years old. I got him as a rescue when he was about two and he's like a puppy sometimes. He likes the different flavors. They used to tell you that if you're gonna change the food, you should give them half of the serving of the old food and half of the new, but we just go from the different flavors and he's fine. As long as it's food, he doesn't care.
I like that Taste of the Wild has a variety and he seems to like them all. He grew up on dry foods and the kibble is great. But it's got a higher protein in it than the other foods that we have been giving him. When we first started giving it to him, he was getting a cup twice a day and he put on about 8 or 10 pounds. The vet said that was a little bit too much, so our dog broke off a little from the protein. The vet said cut him back to a half a cup twice a day and that's what he gets.

I don’t trust a dog food company that sits in these comments and denies any responsibility in what their food may be doing to our precious furry family members.
If my dog doesn’t die outright from this, she may need a pacemaker. That’s thousands of dollars and who’s going to pay for it? Definitely not the makers of this food. My dog just turned THREE. Sorry to hear about the skin issues. These are typically from a food allergy and/or a seasonal/inhaled allergy. Since you also fed Pacific Stream to no avail, I would avoid fish based formulations for her as well.

I am a veterinary school student and as such know that glass could have easily killed him, and/or resulted in thousands of dollars spent at the emergency department. The piece of glass was thin and flat, about half the size of a 5c coin.
I approached the Australian supplier with all the order details who said they would get back to me, and yet two weeks later after they convinced me to send the glass to them, I had received no reply. I then contacted TOW company directly with the same order details, and received a two-sentence response from a salesperson claiming that because I couldn't give them the bag details (I no longer had the bag at the time I found the glass) they wouldn't look into it. Their disinterested, almost automated response and their lack of surprise/shock seriously concerns me.
This is clearly a company that has no real commitment to the safety of our pets, and puts money before welfare. As explained in the lengthy email that I sent TOW, there is no possible way that this piece of glass came from anywhere but the feed bag. I had already been considering switching brands based on further recent education on canine nutrition, but will now actively be warning all my future clients, and colleagues, about the potential dangers of this brand.

All in all, I'm sure Taste of the Wild is great for some dogs, but it didn’t really work for ours.

I have a Pomeranian Chihuahua and a purebred Pom. One time, my Pomeranian had gotten a super short haircut which was inappropriately short for his undercoat. So, we had a really hard time growing that back. I read that the salmon oil and fish oils are good for that, so I switched both of my dogs over to Taste of the Wild and they did really well on it. I tried a different formulation one time and they didn't seem to like it as much. So, I just stuck with the salmon and with it, their health went up and they got more energy. So, I kept them on it and I've been using it for about five years now.
Other than that, my Pomeranian gets blood work done once a year for his teeth to be cleaned and every time, especially in the last five years and with his age, his blood work came back great. For his age, his blood work was amazing and I attribute that to the food. I also tell people that the food they're on is awesome all the time. But it is pricey, so if it's possible, they should lower the price.

Taste of the Wild is really good. It’s the only thing I fed my Weimaraner-Labrador mix since I got him. I liked the way that the ingredients were listed on the bag of Taste of the Wild and the different varieties that I could give the dog plus, it was very accessible to the pet store that I use. My dog is a mix of a Lab and a Chow and she's 55 pounds. At first, Taste of the Wild was good and then she just kinda tapered off as dogs do. They get used to the flavor so we would switch the flavors every bag or two. The most often that we used were the wild boar or the salmon. She took to the food and stayed on it well. She seems pretty happy and we probably used it for about nine months but we stopped using it because of the studies that came out about Taste of the Wild being linked to animal heart disease. So, we switched over to the Costco brand.
The jury is still out, as far as whether there is in fact, a correlation between food and DCM. Almost every pet food company had some cases as revealed in the 701 page FDA document that was released under the Freedom of Information Act. That includes Purina, Mars and Science Diet as they own brands such as California Natural, Evo, Iams, Crave, Royal Canin, Merrick, Whole Earth Farms, SD Adult Grain free free chicken and
potato, Ideal Balance etc,so DCM may not be linked to pet food after all.

I've never really had overweight dogs and that always seems to work out all right for me, so I just fill the bowl up when it's empty.
My Akita is an adult. She likes the waterfowl and she likes the boar the most. My puppy, on the other hand, is on the puppy venison one. I got the puppy after he was about four months old and he was on a cheap Purina type food. With Taste of the Wild, both of my dogs' coats have gotten noticeably softer and they are in good health. The Akita is 11 now and she's still kicking strong and doing the trick. The only thing with Taste of the Wild is it's expensive, but you pay for what you get. I started using Taste of the Wild in 2006. At the time, I had adopted a pit bull and he had wildly sensitive skin and hot spots. He was a year and a half old when I got him and he had a lot of sores through to his tail. I quickly started experimenting with different kinds of foods for him and I did some of the Pure Vita salmon for a little bit. But that was a little bit harder to find and only one place had it. I found that Taste of the Wild worked really well for him and it was a little bit more readily available. He stayed on Taste of the Wild his whole life then eventually, my cats had it as well. I prefer it for the dog that we have right now as well just because it fills him up better. He’s more content. It feels like a healthier alternative. Taste of the Wild is just a better food for my pets. I live in the Midwest now and around my house, there are not many good dog food. I like to drive to a good dog store and get a big bag from our local place.
But my dog developed an enlarged heart issue. There is a high fat and a high sodium content in the Taste of the Wild. It's higher than maybe other alternatives that may be recommend for a dog that is going into heart failure. I tried something new but my dog wasn’t happy with it so I just went back to Taste of the Wild. He only had a year left and I wanted him to be comfortable. But it seems that they digested the smaller kibble much better. The dogs are healthier with Taste of the Wild. We also use Taste of the Wild for our two rescue cats, and they have the biggest positive effect from it. They're Russian blues, and their fur really shined up. The other thing is that they don’t go to the bathroom that much, and I think that’s because they're digesting more of the food and they're not getting rid of all the byproducts that’s in normal pet food.

I finally found a new brand, The Taste of the Wild, free of the grain I was sure was causing the problem with yeast. This was 12 years ago, the GSD with the yeast issue cleared up within a week of changing, never refused another dish of food and was able to live YEAST FREE.

Also, he had worms at one point but she was definitely having those symptoms after the worms were long gone. We tried different things at the vet like doing anal gland expression and nothing worked until I quit using Taste of the Wild. She has stopped licking since.

I like that Taste of the Wild is grain-free and mostly full of protein. I'm feeding it to my cat and the experience has been fine. My only concern is when there were tons of recalls on cat and dog food.

With Taste of the Wild, my dog has a good looking coat. During hunting seasons, I add a little bit of the wet food to it, which she really loves. Recently, she had a stick shoved up her nose, sneezed really hard and broke several teeth. She's gonna be on a little bit more wet from here on out to make it easier on her to chew. When she had her teeth removed, the vet asked if my dog was on a grain-free diet. I didn't get to talk with her too much about it, but she said that dogs needed grain.
I have a nine-year-old black Lab retriever. She's about 59 pounds. She's a working dog so I try to stay very consistent with what she's intaking. I look for the quality and the ingredients and everything has shown that Taste of the Wild has a consistent recipe. Consistency is also very important to me because I buy bags of dog food if the dog wanted to eat. A lot of different dog foods seem to change their recipe. Every once in awhile, they'll change it for a bit then they'll change it back. Eukanuba and Pro Plan have done the same thing. I used to be a Pro Plan guy 20 years ago but now, I'm done with them. Now, I'm into Taste of the Wild and have been for quite some time.

We got a pitbull puppy back in June. At the time I was feeding her Iams and she was having skin allergies. She lost fur and was itchy all the time. I tried shampoos for her coat and her hair never would fully grow back. I switched her over to Taste of the Wild Pacific stream puppy formula and her hair grew back within 2 weeks. Her coat is so soft and shiny now! Love this dog food.

We no longer have our pet. But we've used Taste of the Wild since we got him. The veterinarian recommended it, and we still order it and send it to his new home. He likes it and eats it. We had dog food that causes reactions to our pets in the past. This doesn't, so I think it's properly made. But I'd love it if it costs less.

My American bulldog was having allergy problems so I made a switch to Taste of the Wild. I use a venison buffalo one, the salmon one -- I use all of them just to switch up so she’s not getting tired of the same flavor. When I first switched over it was a big difference. She gained a lot of healthy weight, and then her skin got better. But then, I don’t know if it’s seasonal allergies or what, but now she’s shedding a lot. She has a lot of allergies and itching. But I don’t think it’s the food because I tried switching over to something else and limit her ingredient diet, and it still didn’t work. So, I just went back to Taste of the Wild because she likes that one.

We had a Rhodesian Ridgeback who had a very particular diet and he couldn’t eat anything with grain in it. That led us to try a couple of different foods and Taste of the Wild was the one he tolerated the best. He has since passed, but we just keep buying the food. We’ve got two dogs now and that’s what they’ve only eaten. I’ve done the bison, the salmon, and the venison combo. But the place I go to has about four versions and I’ve gotten pretty much all of them. The two dogs that we have now just devour their food. I could put anything in the bowl and they would go for it. In fact, one of them gets medicine and I just throw the pills in with the food and it’s gone.
We’ve got a German Shepherd and the other one is a Pit bull mix. They are healthy dogs, they’re very active and their coats are lush. They love to run, play, and walk. So, the food is a benefit to them in terms of contributing to that. They’re great dogs and giving them quality dog food is important to us. And Taste of the Wild a brand that I would recommend to anybody.

We tried to keep him on no soy, no grain, no sugar type of food. Then, we've had him on Taste of the Wild for about two and a half years now and he hasn’t had any problems with it. We switch it up so that he doesn’t get bored with the flavor. But even though he’s almost 6, we still feed him the puppy formula most of the time because his coat seems to be shinier.

So far, my experience with it has been really good. I live in the city, so my dog doesn’t get a ton of exercise outside besides in my yard, and I feel like it’s a good food for him to kinda compensate for the fact that he may not be running around as much as other dogs. I used to use the puppy formula and now I use the adult food. But he has had all the different kinds and all the flavors, and he’s never had any issues with it. He really likes it.

So, I went to a meat-based food and Taste of the Wild was recommended by the vet. Since using it, there's not as much itching, and he tends to like it better than any other kind of food. If I have to get him something else, he doesn’t like other food as much. I've been using Taste of the Wild for about eight years. I've been happy with the product. My dog likes it.
I use the small kibble one and I kinda bummed that it only comes in one flavor. But sometimes, I mix it up. Sometimes, I’ll get my dog some of the bigger kibble. He doesn’t really like the fish ones. Otherwise, he likes the small kibble because he’s a smaller breed. He gets sick of having one flavor all the time, but I gotta stick to that.

I had a really good experience with Taste of the Wild. I was going between the Bison and Lamb. But I stopped using it suddenly. The vet recommended me to change my dog’s diet because of the grain-free and all the dogs dying. My fault for not getting more information together. I listened to him and changed my dog’s diet. And since then, my dog has been very sick. I had spent $2,300. I changed and I wanted to go back to Taste of the Wild because it works for me for over a year. But now, her stomach is not agreeing with any of them and Taste of the Wild is not working. My dog was fine, and she never got sick. She’s a Boxer and she was perfect. But now, I’m having all these problems. She’s on a low-fat diet. My hope is that when she gets back to healthy again, I can go back to Taste of the Wild because she loved it and we never have problem before.

Taste of the Wild came recommended from our trainer as it doesn’t have the carbohydrates and all the fillers. The first ingredients are natural protein. We have a female German Shepherd that we had had as a puppy and now we have had her for 3 years and 7 months. Taste of the Wild has good ingredients and it’s not a crazy price like most of the other dog foods. I'm a pet owner and I've been using Taste of the Wild for 6 months or more on my 2 chocolate Labs. Molly, the younger one, would eat anything. But Leila, who's about 13, is a little picky when it comes to eating, but she seems to gobble Taste of the Wild up. So, that’s maybe another reason why we started giving it to her. She also seems to push more towards the Pacific Stream and more of the fish formula. We have her on thyroid medication and her hips are getting really slim, but it's just a Lab trait. Her coat wasn’t the best when we got her on the medication, and she’s been on Taste of the Wild for a while, but she's definitely doing better in general. All in all, my dogs enjoy Taste of the Wild so I don’t see why other people's dogs wouldn’t.

They're feeling softer and shinier and, overall, their activity level seems to be higher. I have only started feeding Taste of the Wild with this set of dogs, but before that, I used the generic Purina and the dogs didn't have as much energy and weren't as soft and fluffy. I've been giving my Mini Dachshund Taste of the Wild for about five years now. It was recommended to us by one of the vets that we see. We’ve been told by our vet that the grain-frees are good, but some grain is actually good for the dog too. We mix Taste of the Wild with Royal Canin, the one that’s made for Dachshunds, at half and half. My dog eats any of the food that doesn't have salmon, because she gets a stinky butt when she eats salmon, so we usually stick to the venison mix one.
