While it is more expensive than kibble, it has been easy to use and my cats' healths have improved. I have a cat with cystitis, a cat who is a rescue and needs healing up, and a third cat who is a kitten. This food is moisture rich and balanced. Much fewer urinary issues with my cystitis cat since we switched. It is less expensive than feeding canned, but more than kibble (which should be avoided as cats need moisture in their food). The company had also been really supportive when we lost a cat a year ago to stroke (she had a congenital heart issue). This is the best food for a cat that can be bought. It is easy to use and portion out. My cats like it and get excited when they see the container come out of the fridge at meal times.

My cats have been eating Smalls for 2+ years now. You can really, really see the difference it makes. I had them on one of the healthiest kibbles on the market, but once I switched to Smalls, their coats started to shine like never before. My girl also used to throw up all the time, and she stopped completely. They love the pulled chicken the most, which I supplement with the freeze-dried raw duck kibble. It’s expensive and a bit of a hassle not being able to just leave out a bowl, but it’s very worth it to me.

I first heard about Smalls while on Facebook. I was hesitant to try at first but once I did, it was success. Hades fell in love with his food. I tried the chicken and turkey but, Hades finally chose turkey recipe. Besides the raw recipe, Hades adores the freeze dried in turkey and duck. Hades was having stomach issues and couldn't keep his store bought food down but after switching he no longer suffers from it. He became a different cat. I'm glad I decided to try smalls. I do wish I could call instead of email or text but anytime I have issues, the staff helps me resolve the issues and it does work out. I recommend this to who wants a healthy diet with their fur baby.

Smalls Raw food plan as well as the mixed wet food and dry food plans are amazing. The foods have virtually no fillers, are low in carbs and high in fats and proteins needed for cats. After 1 month consumption, my cat's fur coat was shiny. He absolutely loves the food. The only con is that food is a little expensive but the customer service is great.

I am a very satisfied customer of their products. There were a few times I had to contact their support, and support people were very very helpful and fixed my subscription issues very quickly. They sell fresh cat food (shipped frozen) and my cats are totally spoiled LOL. They do not want to eat anything but their cat food anymore. Also, my cats are getting older but they seem very healthy.

We have been using Smalls cat food for about 1.5 years. Our cat loves the food and is very healthy, what I like about the food is that it does not smell awful like most wet cat food does! Some people are complaining about the food not being pre-portioned; weighing out portions with a scale is easy and convenient. In the beginning we had issues with poor customer service, but I am happy to report that it improved over time!

I order the fresh food, 6 different flavors, on a recurring 3 week basis. My cats seem to like the food, one is more picky than the other so she will only eat 4 flavors. I like that the food is high quality and that there is a lot of variety. I was told that they were bringing back a fish recipe but haven't seen it yet. They did add a new "pulled" variety which I think is the best one so far. The packaging is terrible, messy to open with either kind of packaging, but the tubes are preferred. Sometimes they mess up the order and then the timing is really annoying to get back on track. Customer service is just ok, but you can tell they try. Maybe a tad expensive but I'll keep buying it because it's quality food.

This cat food is expensive, I will not argue that. However it is worth its weight in gold. My cats love it and their coats have never been healthier. My one cat suffers from a canned food allergy and this fixed that problem. No more poop streaks on my carpet or messy litter boxes. My other cat is just picky but will literally inhale this food. The vet is happy too. I hope this food will always be available, or I’ll have to start cooking for my cats.

I ordered the pulled chicken and turkey and my cat loves the food. Food looked very good (looked like when you get your own BBQ pulled chicken from restaurant). The price is comparable to the grain free can cat food that I used to feed my cat (Smalls cost about $27 per week per cat). The grain free food cost me about $20 per week per cat. Cat is happy, coat looks good and soft and his poop is not so stinky. I had adopted another cat (I had to take her back to the shelter as it didn't work out - sad- but she was adopted right the way), her poop smelled like naphthalene but after she stayed with us and feeding on Smalls it went away.

I've been using Small's consistently for about 3 years now and it's the best quality cat food I've found besides cooking my own. It took me a while to figure out portion sizes, feeding timing (I use the fresh meat only) and what flavors my cat likes, but now that we've got it down my cat is a totally different animal health-wise. The improvements in her coat, body, energy and overall health has been amazing and without a doubt worth the extra money. Also the customer service is excellent.

It was a little bit tricky at first to figure out the portioning, but since speaking with the cat concierges I was able to order the correct amount of food. Their website is very user friendly, and they recently added the option to edit the size/portion/when your box ships. I've only ever had one issue, and the company solved it right away and was courteous and willing to help. Thanks so much, Smalls! -Kelly, Pedro, and the three cats (August, Onyx, & Lua)

Smalls is great. The quality of the cat food is great and my cats actually enjoy it. I love knowing that my cats are getting quality food. I know it’s better for them because their poops aren’t as smelly and their fur is a lot softer and their breaths don’t smell as bad. When I used to feed them canned and dry food, they would have diarrhea constantly and the poops smelled so bad. I feel like they are healthier now and have more energy and they are all at a good weight for their size. I first started getting Smalls three years ago when I only had one cat but now I have two more and I did not have any issues with starting the other two on it either. Their favorite flavors are the turkey and chicken. They don’t really like the beef that much but they’ll still eat it when they’re hungry.

I like that I can customize my order and only get the flavors that they like and will eat. They also really enjoy the freeze dried food and I like giving it to them as a snack and I prefer to give them that over the terrible quality kibble they sell at stores. I have never had issues with the packaging or the food coming thawed. Once you get used to dealing with the dry ice and the really cool dissolvable corn packaging, it’s actually really easy to handle. Straight from the box into the freezer. Their customer service reps are great too and are usually pretty quick to reply.

I highly recommend Smalls for your cat's overall health. It is pricey but to me I would rather pay more for good quality food rather than feeding them low quality food that is cheaper and then spending more in vet bills because their health isn’t good. Cats can be picky so if they don’t take to it right away, give them some time. Of course if they had to choose between something healthy and the smelly canned food they would choose the canned because it’s more enticing. If you really care about your cat's health, go with Smalls.

I'll keep this brief. Customer for over 2 years now, and I wouldn't change back to any other option. Before finding Smalls, I went through a bunch of different trials of pretty much every decently-reviewed brand on the market—all the big ones like Blue Buffalo, Nulo, Stella & Chewy's, Open Farm, Honest Kitchen, etc. But I always had an issue with either the fact that the food came in cans (would like to avoid as much as possible), was ridiculously stinky (if you're using mostly chicken and vitamin blends, your food shouldn't release a noxious cloud the second it's opened), or was too heavily processed for my likes.

After deciding to give Smalls a go, I was happy to see that the chicken was so minimally processed that it still looked and smelled like chicken and not some undeterminable "cat food" smell. There was a bit of an adjustment period to get my cats used to it, but they are quite happy with it now, I supplement with a bit of Smalls Freeze-Dried, too, and have had no issues. That line they use in their ads—"less stinky poops"—is not just a line, btw.

On the business side of things, their website can be a little glitchy sometimes, but if I want to change something and having an issue with the site, it's always very easy to just text them and have them take care of it. Never had any issues with charges, shipments, etc. So, the bottom line is: yes, it's pricey, but it's definitely worth it in my opinion.

My cat loves the Smalls food, and it’s improved the texture of his fur quite a bit. He’s very silky and smooth now! Smalls has a few shortcomings in their infrastructure however. Their ordering system is limited to basically a week out, you don’t have a lot of flexibility with ordering food. This might improve as the company grows. Overall the customer service has been good and I found it easy to postpone or cancel orders.

If you truly love your cats, you are doing the research and taking action to create a happy, healthy and enriching environment for them. You know that cats need a certain amount of calories and high protein diet with specific nutrients twice a day (no free feeding unless they are kittens). You know they need good litter and plenty of scratching posts and catnip toys to entertain them. I knew all of this, but I still couldn’t find a good wet food for my cats that didn’t make them throw up. Enter Smalls: their kibble and minced chicken sent my cats over the moon. The newer pulled chicken recipe is their absolute favorite; they almost look like little wild cats hunched over their prey, gnawing at it. They know the sound of the freezer opening and come bounding over when I shake the freeze dried giblets. Their coats are soft and shiny, and they are maintaining healthy weight.

Probably one of the most underrated factors of feeding them a Smalls diet is how I don’t even smell their poop anymore. This is how I know their body is absorbing and digesting every little nutrient. As for their customer service, I’ve only had polite, helpful interactions. All in all, Smalls might be pricier than your other “leading cat brands”, but knowing the quality of my cats’ lives is improved is worth it. It means I get more time with them in the long run, and that’s worth every penny.

My other cats who are entering senior status I wanted on a better food as well. One of mine is allergic to fish and has had massive ear infections due to that. Well, since he is now on Smalls we do not have that issue anymore! My other male loves the freeze dried as an alternative during the day. I see an improvement in them all - especially my eldest. He is doing really well and enjoys the food. We did have a process of finding what they preferred, and we are settled on the pulled bird and pulled other bird. I've been feeding this to my babies since they were kittens. They LOVE it. On top of that, I know it's so good for them. We feed them 100% fresh wet food. Everyone comments on how soft their coats are, they're soft like bunnies. I know they're hydrated, which is big with kitties as they don't always love to drink water. On occasion, if I run out before my next shipment, I notice that they have less energy with other wet foods. The vet says their body composition is perfect.

You also can't beat the convenience of having the food delivered to your door every month. No trips to the store, I don't ever have to think about it. The packages are marked with servings, so I know exactly how much to give to them every day. Plus, Smalls has tupperware that fit the foods perfectly. Also, they sent us a catnip toy once and it was seriously my cats favorite toy ever. It may be a little pricier than other brands, but it is worth it. Our pets are like family, and they deserve the best we can offer. I genuinely rave about Smalls to everyone in my life.

I have been a customer of Smalls for almost a year, at first receiving shipments every 7 or 8 weeks, now around 4 or 5 weeks. I like being able to adjust how often I get shipments and which exact products I want. However, at least 5 yikes (if not more) I have either: 1) received the fresh frozen food in damaged condition with cuts that left the food exposed, or 2) not received the correct amount of items I ordered. In scenario 1 they have either given me a refund on the damaged items, sent me replacement ones, or given me a store credit on my next shipment. In scenario 2 they have either given me refund on the missing items or sent me the correct items after the requesting it. In scenario 2 I have always asked to be sent the correct items because otherwise my cat doesn’t have enough food to last until the next shipment. But they have only sent me the items about twice.

Usually they give a refund because they can only ship out specific items in certain quantities. Very odd and frustrating because they should be able to fulfill orders properly or at least have a system in place to ensure that the customer’s food needs are being met if their fulfillment process didn’t go as planned. They are very unreliable in order fulfillment and the return/refund standards in their customer service. Otherwise my cat loves the food, but it sucks to have to supplement my cat’s food with store brands when Smalls is unable to fulfill my order properly.

Her coat is soft and silky and she doesn't scratch her face and skin due to allergic reactions anymore. Plus, I don't have to pay for allergy medications for her anymore. I have been ordering Smalls cat food for my 9 year old kitty since February this year (that's 9 orders so far). I will discuss 3 things in my review: the quality of the food; the packaging; and the customer service. First, the food. My cat has had digestive issues including loose stools and frequent hairballs. Her phosphorus levels were low and her carbohydrate levels were high (pre-diabetic) so my vet recommended switching her to a raw food diet and eliminating the dry food that I had been feeding her. She recommended Smalls. I was nervous to commit to the high price but decided to try it for a year and see if it helps her digestive issues and phosphorus/carb levels at her next wellness exam.

That exam hasn't come yet but my cat now has healthy stool with less odor, and very infrequent hairballs. She prefers the pulled chicken recipe, but will also eat the smooth chicken and smooth beef. For whatever reason, she will not eat the turkey (she ate it the first few times but then decided she didn't like it I guess). I am very happy with the quality of the food and am confident that it is improving my cat's quality of life.

Next, the packaging. Smalls using a cornstarch foam as an insulator which dissolves in water and can be rinsed down the drain. We have not had any problems with clogging while dissolving it. I really love that the packaging is mostly sustainable, as I was afraid it would come in styrofoam which is incredibly wasteful and not biodegradable. I had one problem with some of the food packages being cracked because the dry ice keeps the food so cold the plastic becomes brittle. I was assured by customer service that the food was safe to serve provided it was fully frozen upon arrival. My cat ate the food and didn't have any health problems. They seem to be switching to a 'sausage' style packing which should eliminate this kind of brittle cracking I had that time. All other orders have come perfectly packaged, and I have never had the food arrive thawed even throughout the hot summer we had this year.

Finally, customer service. I have had all positive experiences with the customer service team. They are quick to respond and always find a solution within one or two emails. I once had an order missing some items, so I contact customer service via email and asked them if they could replace the missing items. They informed me that they cannot just send 2 packs of food, but they would refund the missing food and move my next order up a week so that I would not run out of food. While I would love it if they had an 'a la carte' option so that you could just get one or two items outside of the subscription I understand that from a shipping standpoint it is much more efficient to send out full boxes. I think that there is room for improvement but I appreciate the quality products and customer service that this company offers. If you have a cat that needs a special diet, or simply want to give your cat 'the best' Smalls is for you.

Both of our cats eat it just fine, but they both love food. The subscription service is nice not having to worry about running out of cat food. To echo some of the other reviews, there has been a couple of times in the summer, where the dry ice was gone and the food was dethawed, however, smalls reimbursed us for those boxes with no hassle. Obviously this is not a problem all year around. It is a little on the expensive side, but I'm also one of those pet parents who pays the extra cost knowing what ingredients are present. Depending on the day I will have no issue feeding my cats and they take to it like candy, on other days when the one is being picky I will take the dry chicken treats that I get with each order, crush and sprinkle some of it on top of of the food and she will devour it all. The only issues I have with this service are the difficult multi portion single packages, and it being somewhat expensive. Smalls has a quality product compare to other animal, (cat in my case) foods. They offer human grade fresh; it is not inexpensive. It is, from my research, a healthy alternative for an animal's diet compare to the "major name brand" foods, (many if not most have "fillers" in them which are unhealthy for animals and not part of their natural diet.

Smalls' customer service, however, is HORRIBLE. Their shipping times are never exact, which I can take with a grain of salt these days. BUT, I have been expecting my latest shipment to arrive anytime in the past 3 days, and it is not here yet. I went on their website to track my shipment, and of course their shipper wants an order number. I gave the one provided me and the shipper said it was invalid and asked for a tracking number. I went back to Smalls site; there is no tracking number. There is an option on the Smalls site that says "speak to a live human". I called the number, during the listed hours AND A PRERECORDED "ROBOT" answers and says "We do not offer phone service!!!"

It is a Friday, and I plan on leaving town for the weekend. Smalls fresh, human grade food comes shipped on dry ice. I live in a major city with a high crime rate; packages are stolen from the front of people's houses every day...literally. I think it would be a bit unreasonable to ask a neighbor to look for a POSSIBLE delivery of my package, then, handle it containing dry ice, which can "burn" human skin if you do not know how to handle it, and freeze my package until my return. For over $100 a month, I believe this is unacceptable. Fresh pet food companies are trending now; I will be looking for a different to purchase from.

I've learned which ones my kitties prefer, and still blend it with other cat food that they enjoy which has made the experience excellent overall. It is very healthy food and I feel good knowing that this is a permanent part of their diet.

My 5 year old long-haired buddy, Frank Zappa, has been chowing down on Smalls twice a day for about a year and his now silky, shiny coat puts my hair to shame. I usually get a variety of chicken and turkey, ground and smooth, and sometimes he just prefers one more than the other. I blame the inherent finicky nature of cats and not the food. We have another cat who shows zero interest in Smalls, but also zero interest in any wet food, so go figure! It's par for the course with cats. Smalls recently added pulled chicken and turkey to their menu, and Frank is BANANAS for it. He sits there eating until his bowl is licked clean.

The quality from Smalls has always been top notch, and they've never missed anything in my order. I have had a couple of issues with the website over the past year (ship date and subscription changes not updating, etc), but when I reached out, customer service got back to me immediately and was very helpful in solving my issues. It seems like most of the kinks have been ironed out, and I haven't had an issue in many months. I definitely recommend giving Smalls a try. If your cat likes it, it's definitely worth the money. If your cat doesn't like it, just remember that you are not alone, Picky Cat Parent! :)

We began feeding our three cats Smalls wet and dry food about 16 months ago. The transition from the food they were eating to Smalls took time and persistence but paid off in the end. All three cats love the pulled chicken. I can't get it in the bowl fast enough before they try to start eating it. Their coats are shiny and beautiful, they have energy and very playful. I agree the price is higher but having lost our previous kitties to disease, I am happy to pay a little extra.

My cat loves this food & gobbles it down. I wanted to feed him like family, and after doing extensive research, this was the best option for us. His fur has gotten softer, and his poops are smaller and less stinky. I've had family members say he's the healthiest cat they've ever seen. The price is hard to swallow, but I later found that it's actually cheaper than other high quality wet foods per meal, and I want to minimize his dry food intake. Also when I've had to switch back to other wet foods on occasion, I could really tell the difference in quality. Smalls is definitely messier and a little more complicated than other foods, but it's not rocket science. Just be warned that it takes longer than 2 weeks for cats to adjust to new food. My cat seemed hungry all the time at first/wasn't absorbing the nutrients, but I put him on some (inexpensive) probiotics at my vet's suggestion, and that did the trick.

My cats love this food, and unlike others they started eating it without any difficulty. You can see a noticeable difference in how soft their fur is. My issues with Smalls is the not the food but the company. Firstly, I have had issues with deliveries. Once they shorted me 10 pieces, which luckily I counted and checked because I was charged for the full order. I was refunded the amount missing, but such negligence is not reassuring. Secondly, the packaging is annoying, but not necessarily a deal breaker. It's not single serving, which I like because it is less wasteful. Overall the regular delivery of food is convenient, though it does take up a lot of freezer space. It's expensive, but not any more so than other high quality cat foods. Just wish they would tighten up their systems a bit more.

Our last cat developed diabetes from all the kibble he was fed (didn’t know before this that was a risk) so we decided to get better food for our new kitty. We did the sampler pack to find what she likes. I think she’s getting bored with just one kind so it’s nice to be able to switch the order each month. They have been adding more and more options to the plans. The food is really good quality and our kitty likes it. The litter is a complete rip off, it’s cheaper at any pet store. Sure, the portions aren’t packaged per meal, but the Smalls team helped me figure out how many ounces to feed my cats per meal. I use a scale to portion out my meals for my cats, and it literally takes less than 2 minutes. I don’t get why this is listed as a “con” when opening up a can of cat food for every food serving is just creating more waste. And lastly, my cats are so healthy and their vet says they're in perfect shape and I know Smalls is a big part of that assessment!

I found Smalls online after a year + of dealing with chronic diarrhea and vomiting in my male cat who was 15 years old at the time. I took him to the vet to diagnose his illness and they wanted to run a full slate of tests - of which I felt was unnecessary. This is an indoor cat who was fed a prescription diet from the age of 1 year onward. Out of the blue he got sick. I systematically began switching out brands of cat food. He could handle it for a month, then the diarrhea and vomiting would return. He was also pooping outside of the litter box. Every brand, the same thing happened. I came to determine that the dry kibble he was eating made him very thirsty, then he would drink large amounts of water, and throw up due to food expanding with water. Changed him to a wet diet. Still the same story, less vomiting though.

I decided to try a traditional human chicken breast and rice, and of course it worked! But I did not want to commit to making my cat a from scratch, homemade diet for life! That's when I found Smalls and my cat is healthier than he's ever been. He loves the food, the litter box is greatly improved, and he went from 20lbs to 15 lbs. I still have no idea where my cat's health crisis came from, but am overjoyed it's been solved by Smalls! I highly recommend them and their customer service. This is expensive cat food. Before Smalls I just got a decent brand at retail stores and it was much cheaper. However, smalls is worth it. Having food delivered on a schedule takes so much stress out of my life. I can't tell you how many times me or my SO didn't realize we were out of wet food until our cats were begging for it. Smalls delivery is so convenient for my lifestyle. My cats love the food. We get chicken and other bird flavors but skip on beef because they seemed to not like it. The trial of smalls was perfect for finding this information. We feel we can tell a difference in our cats. Our cats are more energetic and affectionate after switching to a smalls only diet. One of our cats also vomits much less than she did with other foods.

I am not a fan of the packaging. The "line" system of measuring the food is a bit odd and more importantly I have never been able to peel back the cover on the package. We need to cut the package open which is frustrating only because it tells you to peel and I am not sure why it's not an easy thing to do. Overall, for us smalls is absolutely worth the price.

I was told that telling them my cat didn't like it wasn't the same as asking for a refund under the guarantee that you will be refunded if your cat doesn't like it.

If your cat doesn't eat it, make sure to state that you "want a refund" in those words between 14 days after your order but before 30 days after your purchase or you will not get a refund. They contacted me more about how I was NOT getting a refund than anything else. I guess they REALLY need my $30. Sad, they would have possibly kept a customer if they exchanged the food. However, the customer service for a "high end" seems to be less than "high end".

Have a recent addition to the household and decided to see if the subscription based was for us. It wasn't. The kitten was a challenge as the breeder started the litter off with a raw diet, so transitioning her into a healthy human grade food was the major hurdle. Once we got her acclimated to high quality pet food [initially Caru]. Did the trial where they ship out the turkey, chicken, beef chubs...supposed to arrive frozen. It wasn't. Dry ice was gone when it arrived. Added in the food as recommended with zero luck. Got to the point where we followed her around with the food dish.

Barely used any and switch back to the Caru with decent results. Get an email basically letting me know the next box was already getting ready to ship. Lucky I jumped on this and tried to downsize the automatic refill which was 161.00?? Tried to move the date out, and it jumped to 200.00? Not sure what planet they are on, but transitioning a cat is a slow process, so had to scramble to just cancel it altogether.

Figured the account was closed and started getting phone calls from them asking how the food program was going [so, obviously whatever communication a business should have, they didn't]. I told them I canceled the account 4 days prior. Got 2 emails and was still able to log in, which was strange. Texted them to confirm cancelation and remove credit card, and to again send a confirmation.

So yeah, be careful and pay attention. I can buy a case of Caru for 32-35 bucks...which now lasts her 3 weeks. It is human grade boxed food with good variety and the bonus is, the cat was loving it once I stopped the transitioning to the Smalls. True experience, so again, when the trial is over and they try auto sending a large amount of food, double check the out and the pricing. Seems like a company that everyone works remotely doesn't communicate at all, and the system takes its time even after canceling, removing you.

We have a few cats at home. Plus, there are a few strays out and about. I feed one cat and my mother feeds different food to 2-3 other cats. About a year ago I was trying to get my cat into best wet food I could find. Did a lot of research and somehow smalls came up top. I went ahead and decided to try it. It took some work but cat seemed to like it okay. He wasn't crazy about it but would eat it if nothing else was available. I figured it would be okay and went ahead with the subscription. Two order later and my fridge was full of frozen cat food because cat would only eat small bits whenever he felt like it. I had to chase him around the house with the cat food just to get him to take a few bites. Then, I'd put down any other kind of food and he'd devour it. Lot of times I'd put down his "premium" wet food and he'd walk away to go patiently wait to see if any of the cats my mother was feeding left any behind.

Eventually things got to the point that he wouldn't even look at the food. As I write this I have a fridge full of frozen cat food that nobody wants to eat. I defrost it, put it down for anyone to eat it and it just goes untouched. Sometimes I put it outside and not even the strays will eat it. The only animal that will eat it sometimes, it's a small dog that my mother owns. Dogs will eat anything, including cat dropping so...

There is also the fact that some of the food I've received lately is different in texture. The soft bird meat from previous batches was true but the new batch has a hard texture. It's hard and rubbery even after being thawed. I am a vegetarian, therefore I am not very experienced when it comes to meats but this meat seems off. Texture is rubbery, leaves my hands oily with a strange smell. Other can food I can touch and just rinse away with water but Smalls I need to wash my hands with soap. I don't recall this being an issue with the first batch, but I don't know could just be my lack of experience dealing with meats.

Now, onto the customer service. There is absolutely no way of speaking with a human. All you get are text messages with a bot then depending on the issue you might get a "human" to text with. I kept putting off my next order due to still having so much food leftover from previous orders. They'll usually email you letting you know when your next box is due. I went ahead and delayed the delivery by another 2 months. However, a few days later I noticed a $300 charge from smalls on my cc.

I texted customer support and they basically told me my changes wouldn't reflect until next time because the order had already been processed and there was nothing they could do about it. This was on a Friday and the order was scheduled to ship out next Monday. I argued with them for a while but they were firm, no refunds even though order hadn't shipped and I still had a fridge full of food that my cat/s wouldn't touch. Time went by and the order didn't ship until next Thursday. Order was supposed to be shipped that Monday/Tuesday in order to arrive at my door Thursday/Friday. Order didn't arrive until Wednesday the following week.

Long story short: Cats, including strays won't touch the food. Something is off with the texture/composition of the food. Customer service is limited to a bot or text chat with a "human". "Human" because only a machine would ignore the fact that I have a fridge full of food that cat(s) won't eat and still proceed with the order because transaction has been com.

    Original Review: March 8, 2022

I love Smalls' cat food for my cats, but my cats didn't. However, I was motivated and tried a multitude of methods to get them to eat it. It was only after the entire trial pack and first box that they finally started eating smalls with just a food topper. The problems started when I received an email that my next box had shipped. This e-mail typically includes the tracking information, but this time it didn't. So I reached out to customer service to ask for my tracking information, but they did not provide me with this and instead reassured me that my package would definitely arrive by that Saturday. Saturday goes by, and no sign of a package.

So I reached out to customer service again and they said "for some reason the package isn't moving but I can issue a replacement for next week." At this time, I had already run out of smalls cat food, and spent over a month transitioning my cats... Switching them back to their preferred food for a week means I'd likely have to go through that process all over again. I asked for a refund or credit towards a future box for the inconvenience, but smalls wouldn't offer me a thing let alone admit they had never shipped out the box. They blamed the carrier, but were unable to provide tracking information from the carrier. I'm worried this will be an ongoing issue with a company that has 0 incentive to offer quality service, so I will be canceling.

After he developed a chicken allergy and suffered from FLUTD, I made the full switch to Smalls and he's not had any issues since!

o begin, I've had my baby girl for 13 years since she was a runt on the streets. This food has given her more energy, softer fur, and has helped loads in the litter box department. If I ever have questions about editing my orders, or making changes to my subscription the concierges have always been incredibly helpful and helped make my experience meaningful. They LOVE to talk about cats just as much as I do, and that's saying something. I wish more companies showed the same dedication to their customers as Smalls. I'll be a lifelong customer!

Smalls' customer service has been excellent and shipments have been regularly coming on time without any issues. Overall, Oscar's been loving Smalls and I'm not sure he would want us to switch over to anything else!

Before Smalls, I'll admit, I was feeding my cat whatever cans or kibble I remembered to pick up while grocery shopping. I noticed that switching brands/recipes around was upsetting her stomach so I went on the hunt for something that would meet her nutritional needs and be convenient for my ever-changing schedule. Enter Smalls. Talk about game-changer. It took us a week or so to fully transition, but since we did, there's no going back. My cat loves the recipes (chicken is her favorite) and I love that it's all delivered to my doorstep. Our vet is consistently impressed with my cat's weight, coat, and overall health too, so wins all around.

The food contains high quality ingredients for sure. My cat simply adores the stuff and, if you can afford the hefty price tag without issue, I can recommend it. However, the average person cannot drop a small fortune on this food every month, when you can otherwise just go out and buy chicken breasts and rice at any grocery store and cook it up for your cat for significantly cheaper pricing. I understand that their market is catered to cat owners who are finicky about what their cat eats and are on a time scrunch, but just the "trial shipment" alone costs $40; to only have 3 1/2 pounds of food sent to you. The actual monthly delivery costs over $100 for a little bit more food, but not enough to justify. I'm almost spending just as much money on feeding my cat as I do feeding myself. This is a problem, considering I eat 10x more calories than my cat.

At the end of the day, they deliver on their promise of high quality food. That much is certain, and I can't place them below 3 stars as a result. If money is no object, definitely subscribe to their monthly shipment. However, if you're concerned about your cat's pallet but are on a budget, just whip up unseasoned meat, with some whole grain, and a smidge of greens, and it gets the job done.

My cat wouldn't eat this food. He won't touch the treats either. I wrote to cancel the autoship, and I was told that I should give my cat more time and warm up the food and all sorts of other things. I tried, he still wouldn't eat it. They wanted me to wait two more weeks. I tried a different food as my cat wouldn't budge -- and, he is actually NOT a picky eater. He's gobbled up every other brand, including Acana, Open Farm, Solid Gold, Instinct, etc.

Well, it's the end of term, and I remembered to write and ask for a refund, but unlike other quality pet food brands I've tried, Smalls has a strict 30-day refund policy that it will not budge on. Go with a quality food and quality business. Skip Smalls -- you'll be glad you did to save yourself your hard-earned money and the headache of dealing with their business strategy. The food and treats are not very affordable...

Smalls is pricey but seems to be of better quality than the others we have tried so far. It took our cat a while to get used to it, so some food does go waste. He did refuse to eat one type (turkey) from the sampler package. Their biggest problem is their delivery mechanism. We have only one cat so I found it inconvenient to cut the frozen packets up so that food would not go waste.

Our first, sampler package arrived rotten, but I was able to get a replacement after contacting customer support. The second package had items I did not want including turkey which our cat does not eat. This time customer service really pissed me off. They politely implied that I was an incompetent idiot when it came to using email; their system clearly showed that they sent notice of the substitutions and I likely "accidentally" deleted the email. There was no email in the trash or spam or inbox that said anything about substitutions or asking me to confirm the substitutions. There were only three very generic emails giving me status updates about the shipment.

My cats wouldn’t touch this food and I have been left severely disappointed with the deceptive sales tactic and poor customer care of this brand. Smalls lures customers in with a good deal on a trial and then deceptively slaps on a $172 charge to your account for the following month that’s nonrefundable before the product has even shipped. Customer care has been very limited in response and hard to deal with on this matter.

Listen to all the bad reviews about this company. It’s true they are deceptive. First of all, while their customer service is responsive, it has to be because their website is so terrible. Most of the time, it doesn’t work properly and you have to ask customer service to do it. It took me a while to figure out the right amount for my kitten so I spent more than I expected month to month. When I finally did, I made sure to have an extra 2 bags as they recommended. But they decided, without giving notice to me, to switch out my cat's food from chicken to turkey. This was such a risky move because I had no supply left to transition and I was leaving on vacation by the time I noticed the ingredients were turkey.

When I emailed them, they said it was my fault for not reading the email, but it was buried in an email that I always get each time my email ships. They expect me to open the same email with the same subject title I get every month my order ships — when they should’ve changed the subject title to tell customers that the change is happening. This is deceptive and extremely inconsiderate to a cat’s health. They refused to provide me a refund upon request or ship me replacement.

My cat has a very sensitive stomach and can’t just switch off like that. I’m still figuring out her food allergies and some cats are allergic to turkeys. I thought they were honest about their ingredients but I can’t trust a company with dishonest practices like this. Prior to this, I had Nom Nom Now and they were soo much better at measuring how much food your cat needed and obviously way better quality.

Taste-wise, one of my other cats refused to eat Smalls food after about 2 months out of nowhere so I had to switch out it, and I was willing to stay with their company for my one other cat but not anymore with deceptive practices like this. I can’t trust their ingredients or the disrespectful way they go about switching out products without consent.

The food is good quality and my cat likes it. With that being said, they have the worst logistics and customer service. Orders are often wrong, late, or not packaged properly and arrive defrosted. With each issue there’s a new excuse from their team. The worst part - they ship once a week only. This means each time their team messes up an order or it doesn’t show up, you have to wait a full week to (hopefully) have a new/correct order. I’m not sure how this company is still operating.

I like the quality and variety they offer and my cat liked the food just fine. I would have been a long-time customer were it not for their handling of a customer service issue that arose. Last week I received the email that a shipment was pending, to remind me to make any changes. I edited my order and decided to add something new while I was on the site. When I received something different from what was ordered, I thought it was an honest mistake and figured they would simply reimburse me for the product they'd sent in error. Instead, they informed me that the new product I'd added was low on stock, that their staff was directed to substitute, and that this was referenced in a footnote to the email which they apologized for my failure to see.

I've worked in online retail and produced the emails that go out to customers, as well as the website and shopping cart experience. There's no excuse for the fact that they were so subtle about this substitution. There should have been an alert at the top of their website, and certainly on the product page, itself. It should have alerted me when I tried to add the product to my cart. And there should have been a dedicated email seeking my approval for the substitution or, at the very least, a prominent announcement in the head of another email. To make matters worse, they substituted with an item of lesser value and didn't bother to adjust for the difference or acknowledge the fact until I mentioned it. When I raised these points to them they only buckled down, again apologizing to me for my error in a backhanded manner. It left such a bad taste in my mouth, I couldn't continue to give them my business.

Looking for the best cat food is a priority for most people within their budget. Smalls offers a sample pack which you have no option to modify, 2 - 4oz kibble and 4 bags of freeze dried food. Freeze dried, my cat hates that stuff. It wasn't cheap either. Worst part, I was not aware when you sign on their site, you sign on for auto order. I found out the hard way when they shipped me $183.00 frozen cat food for one small cat. I asked for refund and they refused. I would never order that much cat food and especially not at that price. Customer service was anything but genuine.

I think they are experiencing rapid growth and figuring out some of the kinks along the way but I do appreciate their willingness to work with me!

tl;dr: Warning!! Do not order from this company, they have a very deceptive business strategy!!! You will automatically get enrolled in a VERY expensive subscription service and have to fight to cancel your account!! I want the absolute best for my cats and after researching, Smalls fresh cat food seemed to be very species-appropriate. I also love the convenience of subscription services, so I was looking forward to trying this and ordered the sample box. My cats wouldn't touch the stuff, and I tried everything to get them to try it (warmed it up, topped it with gravy that I know they love, etc). I didn't hear anything from Smalls for about a month and as I had only purchased the sample box, I unsubscribed from their promotional emails and didn't think anything of it from then on.

Three weeks later and I see a whopping $265 charge on my credit card from Smalls. I searched my email for confirmation and lo and behold I find in my spam folder an email titled "Order Confirmation." So they automatically enrolled me in their very pricey subscription service. I don't remember agreeing to auto-enrollement when I ordered the sample box -- if I did, it was in the VERY fine print.

I immediately reached out to their customer service (only by email as they don't have phone customer service, always sketchy) and was told that there are no cancellations or refunds once your order is processed. Other subscription cat foods similar to this company almost always offer full refunds if you're not happy with the product. So I'm down $265 and I will be stuck with a giant box of frozen cat food that my cats won't eat - big bummer. But even worse is that when I FINALLY was able to figure out how to log into their terrible site (extremely confusing), there is NO way to actually cancel your account or remove your credit card! What the heck! I'm going to have to call my credit card company and tell them to stop authorizing payments to this company. Smalls has a very deceptive business model. I encourage you not to get lured in by their fancy packaging and nice ingredients, this company is honestly not worth the hassle to work with.

I am trying to do right by my kittens and feed them a food best for their health. I ordered the sample Smalls. After ordering the sample it thanked me for the auto-subscription. I hate companies that do this! I would not have placed the ordered for a sample if I had known I was signing up for an auto-subscription. After receiving the sample food, and feeding to my kittens for five days, twice per day, of small portions with their regular food, I found my kittens would not eat the food - ate around it, even my boy cat who eats everything. They started scavenging for food on the counters, which they don't normally do at 10 months old.

I tried to find a welcome email with the agreement and how to cancel, or an email to a customer portal to cancel the auto-subscription, but there were NONE - just one email confirmation of the sample order with no other content. I tried calling, but received a message that they don't answer the phone. So I sent an email telling them I could find an order confirmation for auto-subscription or a way to cancel the auto-subscription, since my cats don't eat the food and it's very expensive. The Cat Concierge responded to my email and stated: 1) "You do not currently have an account that can be accessed via our website.", 2) "As soon as you know what your cats enjoy feel free to let us know their favorites here! Then your Cat Concierge can help you build your first full order." - didn't happen, and 3) "We'll never ship an order without checking in with you first, and you can always reschedule or edit your orders through a Cat Concierge".

I truly believed I'd taken care of this and put it out of my mind. This is why I was surprised today when I received an email thanking me for my order with the amount. So I searched my inbox and found an email from THREE DAYS ago with an invitation to a customer portal from Smalls. In an attempt to cancel this order, I sign-up for the portal, and there are no pending deliveries, no orders in the history, no record whatsoever. I click all throughout the site. I cannot remove my payment method. There is nothing to cancel anywhere on my profile. Having reviewed the response for my inquiry to cancel the auto-subscription, I did a second search in my email on "Cat Concierge" (not Smalls) and there it was. THREE days ago, I received an email from this email to contact them by the next day (1 day) or my order would be submitted and shipped. Then it happened. I hate business practices like this that set the customer up to fail, and take their money.

Ordered a trial for my mother's cat in January. Her cat hated it, and the food went to neighbors with less picky cats, who still wouldn't eat it. Ultimately it went to their dogs, who would eat it. Given this information, I attempted to cancel the subscription, found no way to do so, and so removed my payment method instead, as the only way to prevent more unwanted cat food, or so I thought.

I was frustrated to learn that I was charged nearly $250 late on a Friday to assure I couldn't challenge payment with my banking institution closed for the weekend. I attempted to contact their customer service line, only to find that they don't actually take phone calls at any time for any reason. I then emailed them and received an automated reply that due to high volume they won't be getting back to me for quite a while. Further, they neither accept returns nor issue refunds for unwanted deliveries. Smalls.com, based on my direct experiences with the company, provides a mediocre product and has no customer service whatsoever. They would do well to redirect some of their excessive marketing budget to customer service. I strongly advise you to avoid doing business with them.

After my cat nearly died of a blocked bladder a year and a half ago, it's been very hard to find a food that he won't refuse but is also healthy for him and moist enough to discourage crystals from building up in his bladder/urinary tract. Smalls' food itself is great and my cat loves it, never threw any of it up, and seemed to be healthy with it. However, the company is semi new, and it has the WORST customer service ever, and horrible logistics.

They gave me completely wrong food, or forgot to ship me everything they had charged me for on multiple occasions. And they only ship on Tuesdays. ONLY Tuesdays. The food doesn't arrive until Fridays or Saturdays, so the window for keeping the food fresh is super slim. And then if the food gets caught over the weekend (as USPS, UPS have been backed up due to COVID) then you're screwed. They make it difficult to get a new shipment sent, and were very combative as if I had done something wrong or were trying to get free food or something. This is the most expensive cat food I have ever purchased and it's completely unacceptable for a cat brand trying to sell high-end expensive food to treat their customers like that (tbh it's unacceptable in general to treat customers like that).

Furthermore, the fact that they have very rigid yet inconsistent & unpredictable shipping practices means my cat has gone through a very unstable two months of trying this food, being without food for periods and having to pay the consequences of an inconsistent diet that could cause him damage and issues, such as vomiting a new food that he is not compatible with that I had to purchase as a stop-gap when smalls wasn't able to ship replacements for spoiled food. I can NOT believe they suggested I try to use food that had been stuck in the mail for 5 days and been exposed to temperatures that would promote bacterial growth that could harm or even kill my cat. It feels illegal to do so.

On top of everything else, the food comes in sausage-like packaging that is difficult to store and is super inconvenient to ration for your cat compared to every other cat food option. They use sustainability excuses but it's definitely a cost-saving solution for them. Oh and the sampler isn't a sampler. It's just a box of their different recipes each packaged for 3-ish days of food. So you have to try them one at a time, or have them go bad in the fridge when you're 1/3 the way through the packages (if you want to have them all side by side by your cat's old food to let them smell, explore, etc every day, that's gonna be super super difficult).

They seem like a new company that is really failing with logistics and customer service. They don't know how to treat customers well or track customers with a CRM and know the history of the relationship. If the food you ship doesn't arrive frozen, SEND A NEW BOX. That's such a simple solution, but they refuse to do it. They even emailed in November to say they weren't shipping food from 11-28th of December. Cool. I ordered food to ship out before then. I'm still trying to gauge how much my cat needs to last two weeks or a month. That shipment went out a day late, and ended up stuck until the following Monday. They didn't ship a new one out, and I was stuck without cat food for now going on three weeks. I can't have my cat subject to such inconsistency and poor, HORRIBLE service. He deserves better, and so do we all.
