This was our first time buying flea and tick meds from the store and not the vet, worst mistake I could have made! The next day after applying the topical treatment my 16 month old Blue Pit starting itching so badly that he is balding in spots! He won't play, go outside or even sleep. A very playful and energetic puppy is now depressed looking and has no motivation to do anything! Worst product, sad thing is I always look at reviews and this time because I didn't my baby is suffering! ZERO stars, apparently it's mandatory that I put at least one. This company should be ashamed!

This product caused my cat 3 burns on her neck. If I knew this product was not accredited I would not have bought it. I was advised not to buy certain product from my vet so I steered clear of that product. I purchased Sentry dual collar from a respectable pet store. They need to pull this product out of store shelves. With all the complaints I wish I reviewed Sentry before putting the collar on my cat. I feel so bad for her; not knowing she was suffering.

Well I always used a flea collar on my stray cat I adopted into my home. Gave him a bath and then put Sentry flea and tick product on him as preventative. I did it correctly but it just wouldnt dry. The next day still not dry and cat was itching...hair was falling out. I washed off remaining product that was wet on his fur. Been over a week and scabs on neck, dry skin, and what looks like discoloration (yellow) of skin. It is as if it burned my baby. This cat did better outside than in my car. First time cat owner and feel bad for my Mischa. Will never again use any of these products. Hope one is more smart than me and reads reviews before using. Sorry for everyone's lose due to this chemical. God bless those innocent animals. This company should be banned.

This product caused my cat's skin to turn red by the end of the first day. Within a day or two he was scratching and pulling out his hair. His face and ears were red. He stopped eating. I did my best to wash it off and gave him a small amount of ** that quieted the scratching. He has started eating small amounts again. He has hyperthyroidism so losing even a little weight is a big deal for him. I would never use this product again.

We recently had a foster puppy stay with us for a couple days. After he was adopted we found out he had fleas so, I purchased the Sentry Flea and Tic topical solution. Within 48 hours my 7 year old Husky had a severe seizure!!! We had to rush him to the vet. This is a normally very healthy dog who has never had a seizure before I used this horrible stuff. Never again!!! Do NOT use this!!!

I wish I had read other reviews before I had applied this to my new cat. Within days she had bald spots by application side and now big bumps that she keeps scratching!!! I bathed her already and it didn't seem to help at all, now she has to wear a cone and I have to get her to the vet... She is traumatized already enough.

I bought a three pack of Sentry Calming Collars and put one on a cat that I have that tends to be a little more nervous. I was hoping it would calm her. Within 3 to 4 days I noticed a gummy substance under her chin and neck. I took it off and bathed her and as horrified to see a 3 in bald spot on my cat's neck!!! It was oozing! It has dried up now but she is still bald there. I hope her fur grows back. I don't know what is in that collar but it definitely had a negative reaction with my baby! Thank God I noticed it and took it off.

Not only did this product not work but it seemed to actually make it worse. Seriously the worst product ever! I put this on my dog assuming it would work but now he has doubled in the amount of fleas and I am taking a trip to the vet to make sure it is safe to use a product that really works.

I bought this ahead of time to give to my dog. I applied it yesterday afternoon like I always do with flea meds. Within an hour she was acting “different” and it kept getting worse, itching, crying, panting, drooling. I immediately put her in the bath and washed it off well. I thought it did. The night got worse, crying, panting, twitching and never slept. I called the vet this morning and they recommended bringing her in however emergency fee applied. I washed her with Dawn 2 times and then conditioned her poor red hot skin. Gave her ** and we are finally sleeping! A NEVER EVER AGAIN will I use this. Found over 600+ reviews on the Consumer Affairs website that were all the same symptoms. Very sad to feel like you are buying a reputable product from a big company. Thank GOD my little guy didn’t appear to have this reaction. He had lethargy. Please pray for my rescue dog. My next step is the vet.

ZERO STARS!!! Where can I report this product to authorities? FDA? SENTRY PRO XFT is a serious HAZARD!!! Not only for the pet, but for humans as well! To sum up: I have a 35lbs pug, he doesn’t have any fleas, I got the product as a monthly preventative. He has had previously about everything on the market as flea/tick prevention and he did very well on it! I saw this product in the store and decided to buy since it’s about twice less expensive than the other products! I WISH I HAD MADE A SMART DECISION AND GOT THE GOOD QUALITY PRODUCT!!!
I put the product on my pet around 5 pm, by 7 pm he was restless itchy uncontrollably, crying in agony (my dog is 8yrs old, I haven’t heard him crying since he was a puppy). I immediately put him in the bathtub and by 10 pm I had washed him 3 times!!!). By 11 pm my eyes were burning and I was nauseous and restless myself! The product had got into my system since I washed him with my bare hands!
I just spent the whole night up with my pet preventing him from stretching a wound open on his back, now the itching is not too severe, but he’s shaking uncontrollably, restless and he has vomited as well! Based on the other reviews of this product online. It’s safe to say that SENTY PRO MUST STOP BEING SOLD! THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS!

Simply put the Sentry flea and tick gel application does not work. This will cause your pet to freak and itch even more. Worst product ever. Do not expect you or your dog to sleep for the next 48 hours. The company acknowledged this is a common occurrence and they still sell this product. The only recommendation they have is wash your dog with Dawn four times.

This is the worse experience I've ever had with anything I've tried for fleas. I put it on as directed on the neck and the next 2 days my healthy 2 year old dog who is normally very calm and sleepy was very disturbed, acting unusual, whining and snapping her neck back trying to bite and scratch where the product was applied. The first day I thought it was just irritated but assumed it would be better but by the 2nd day it was clear she was in pain. I washed the area where it was applied, but it didn't seem to help much and she got worse. Long story short, I was up all night with her because she was in so much pain and had to massage her all night just to keep her from going nuts trying to bite her back.
As I was doing this I touched a damp area and smelled a strange smell and discovered the drops had chemically burned her skin and created an ulcer and swelling. She now has an open wound that needs to heal and I haven't slept all night. If you google this product you will see this is the NORM, not the exception for this product. It is clearly dangerous to pets and I cannot believe it's on the market and shame on them and PetSmart for even selling it. Some cats have even died from using the cat product on them, and 1 person said they'd be suing. Horrible, dangerous product. Even the fleas were better than this. My poor dog has suffered for days now and finally started to feel a bit better after multiple baths and vitamin E applied to the wound. Stay away from this stuff!

I bought Sentry Pro for my healthy and active 2-year old pug. I have never seen him so weak, sick and lethargic within 24 hours after we applied it to him. I was so scared that we were going to lose him. I should have read all these reviews first before I bought it. We were not able to sleep that night since our dog has been itching and was breathing hard and his back legs were stiff. I went online and researched what to do and the only thing I have recently applied or gave to the dog was this Sentry Pro and immediately, I saw all these reviews. I gave my dog a good bath and he has been better few hours since then. THIS PRODUCT SHOULD BE OFF THE MARKET!!! Something should be done please!!!

We put a Sentry calming collar on our 4 year old cat to help with anxiety and redirected aggression. He didn't mind the collar, but after one week of wearing it, he started to act up again, chasing the other cat and generally had increased energy. We noticed some redness near the collar where his white fur should be. The fur beneath the collar was completely gone and his skin was lightly burned (dark pink, light scabbing). One we removed the collar, he calmed down and slept most of the evening. Hopefully he heals okay and his fur grows back, but time will tell.

When my kitty was just a little over 12 weeks old, we noticed he had fleas. We went to our local pet store and was recommended to purchase the Natural Defense topical drops... spice scent... due to his age. Having used topical drops on our animals in the past, I didn't foresee any issues. Boy, that was a mistake. The moment I applied it, my poor baby literally looked like he was crawling out of his own skin. I bathed him in Dawn immediately soaking and finding several times before feeling safe enough to dry him off. I chalked it up to his age and figured I would try again in a couple months.
Fast forward to a couple weeks ago when I tried again. This time, he was literally scrambling all over the place and started foaming at the mouth. I washed him very thoroughly in Dawn again and he improved drastically. I will NEVER use not recommend Sentry products ever again. I cannot even imagine what poor animals go thru prior to these products hitting the market. Sentry should be ashamed. I purchased a Seresto collar for him and it was worth every penny!! He doesn't mind it one but and no signs of fleas after 24 hours!

Not happy one bit that I spent that much money and it did not work. Also it did not help with my flea problem at all, and they still have fleas.

We found a few fleas on our 16 year old Shih Tzu so I went to Petco. They highly recommended your shampoo. After following the direction as written on the back of the bottle my dog still had a flea alive while I was towel drying him off. So pick it off. The statement is it will kill fleas up to 10 days plus the oatmeal is to help stop the itch. This was on Friday 10-12-18. There was some redness to his skin and he was still digging himself so bad. I wash him again Sunday 10-14-18 just to follow up thinking that maybe missed one. At this time his skin looks like a major sunburn. His belly is raw and he licks himself and digs himself nonstop. Wakes himself up, starts digging. Why is there no warning that your product is more harm for your pet than the flea and if it is strong enough to burn the poor animal why does it not kill the fleas as stated. I hope the vet can help today. BIG waste of money. Not to mention my old buddy is so miserable.

My daughter noticed a couple of fleas on our indoor cat - so assuming our labradoodle brought them in the house I went to PetSmart and purchased Sentry flea treatment for BOTH my cats & dog. I applied to my dog about 3:15 pm and by 6:00 she was pacing, twitching, scratching, and labored breathing. I called an emergency vet & they said to bathe her in blue Dawn dish detergent. It is now 4:00 am and my dog STILL can’t settle down! She’s twitching, scratching, can’t fall asleep. After reading all the bad reviews on her about this product I am so mad at myself for not doing better research. I have unintentionally poisoned my dog and am worried about my cats too! I’m scared my dog is going to die!! They should recall this product and take it off the market IMMEDIATELY!!!

I purchased this product for my dog while shopping at PetSmart on Monday. Usually I use SimpleGuard 3, which I get from the veterinarian. I had no more left, so for my convenience I purchased Sentry Pro XFT while shopping because it saved me a trip to the veterinarian. Big mistake on my part. Four hours after applying the product my dog became suddenly restless, anxious, pacing and spinning around in circles. She paced from room to room, jumping onto her bed, running inside to her crate and whimpering. When I tried to take her outside the house she had difficulty walking on her left hind leg. She began to sit and bite her leg, lick her leg and hop on her leg. I never saw her react to anything like this. I tried to comfort her but she was too restless. She was shaking and had rapid breathing.
We survived the night but the next day my dog was still not her usual self. She remained anxious, had difficulty walking, her eyes were red and she did not eat, drink and just stayed in her crate. She continued to bite her left hind leg, limp and bite her tail. By the third day she started to feel better. I was able to hand feed her food and she started to drink on her own. As each hour passed she improved throughout the day. Her eyes are clear now and she is not limping or whimpering but she does occasionally bite at her leg and tail. I have never seen my dog respond to anything like this product. It was scary but she is now on the mend. Please keep away from this product. I plan to go back to PetSmart and make a complaint. This product could have killed my dog. Please do not use this product on your pet. I only wish I had seen these negative reviews before I purchased this product.

ATTENTION dog and cat owners: Please don’t ever use SENTRY flea and tick products! I found fleas on my babies for the first time last Thursday. I went to my local specialty pet store and found Wondercide products. The flea bath bar was safe and amazing, but I was still finding a few fleas on them a couple days later. I should have been more patient with the process...
I read great reviews of Seresto Flea and Tick Collars, and decided I might want to give it a try. At the store, I found what I was looking for... at least, I thought I did as the packaging was incredibly similar. Unfortunately, I had purchased one that could potentially kill my pups. I placed the SENTRY collars on my two babies the 30th of September 6 pm. About five hours later, my boy Rza became extremely restless. He couldn’t seem to get comfortable and would jerk his head up or kick his legs every 3-5 seconds. He was so tired but could not sleep no matter how hard he tried. He was running around, hiding behind the couch, burning up, and panting.
At midnight, I got the packaging and went online to look for similar situations, and I found myself on this site solely dedicated to complaints. My heart sank after the first two reviews. I immediately cut the collars off and bathed my babies in blue Dawn dish soap. Boo seemed okay, but Rza was still suffering.I took both of them to the emergency room and was told the damage had already been done. The vet assured me I cut the collars off early enough, that it shouldn’t cause permanent damage, but only time will tell.
Rza finally fell asleep around 830 am October 1st after nearly 15 hours of misery. He seemed better, but it may be a while if he has internal damage. I am so heartbroken and ashamed that I didn’t double check and make sure I was buying the right product. I am furious with myself that I didn’t research this company and product further. I could have killed my babies. Please don’t make the same mistake that I did!

On Monday, September 17, 2018, my indoor-only, domestic short-haired cat passed away at the age of 13 due to HORRIFIC complications directly-associated with the Sentry PurrScriptions Squeeze-On product. After seeing her suffer with flea bites all hours of the day and night, I chose the aforementioned product to treat her. I applied it topically—just as described on the package (at the nape of the neck and shoulder blades). Within a matter of hours, she was lethargic. My once-playful cat was laying in one spot. In finding her behavior odd, I picked her up and watched as she took two steps and then laid right back down. BAD SIGN #1. Shortly thereafter, I could HEAR her labored breathing and noticed it was very rapid. BAD SIGN #2.
In noting that the ONLY "new thing" that was introduced to her was the Sentry product, I quickly drew her a Dawn Dish Soap (the blue hand soap) bath and began wiping her down. For a cat who HATES water, she laid in my lap and allowed me to wipe her down while I frantically tried to get the medicine off of her fur. BAD SIGN #3. As she rested in my arms getting her bath, she began panting. BAD SIGN #4. I then made the decision to take her to our local 24-hour Emergency Vet (a 10-minute trip). By the time we made it there, she had experienced seizures and within 20 minutes of our arrival, my precious furbaby was DEAD. I am ANGRY!
After reading through the numerous 1-Star Reviews regarding Sentry's products for cats AND dogs, I do not understand how this product is STILL available for sale! Our furbabies are suffering needlessly and I, for one, am all for coming together with those who expressed interest to have a class-action lawsuit brought against Sentry. I pray my review helps save at least one. DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCTS!!!

Our 1 1/2 year old cat last night and within 30 min., she started drooling and foaming at the mouth. We immediately showered her, poor thing was freaking out. About 30 min later, the smell was still so strong from the drops, we showered her again and soaped her up really good. She is eating today, doesn't seem lethargic and while the fleas are falling off her body dead, I am more concerned with her being ok. We can still smell a slight odor from the drops and we are keeping a close eye on her to make sure she is seems like her old self, so far so good on that front.
I cannot believe a company would sell a product that contains an active ingredient in pesticides that has killed many of people's pets. I am looking to see if I can find any info about a class action lawsuit. Because of this experience, we now realize these same drops are what killed our 5 year old part bengal cat, Dexter, a few months ago. He was a much larger cat, so it took a little longer to notice anything until he suddenly became lethargic and just dropped dead.

I applied the Sentry Flea and Tick medicine between the shoulder blades on my 3-year-old [9lb] Maltese and within the hour he had the worst reaction. He wouldn't stop pacing/running around the house and scratching not at himself, but his bed, couch, towels, blankets, etc. I could tell he was so agitated and couldn't sit still. I finally got on this page and read how everyone was using Dawn dish soap, so I washed the spot I had applied the medication and it seemed like it helped a little, but he still wasn't acting normal.
The other reviews said the medication left a burn mark, so I slathered Aloe Vera on the spot and OMG he actually laid and calmed down for a few minutes. I kept applying more when I could see him about to act up again, but he finally started resting maybe an hour later. DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT!!! I purchased from PetSmart because it was cheaper, but never again. I was so upset with myself seeing my dog act like that because he never does and it was the adverse reaction to the medication I gave him. :/ I've never had any issues with other Flea and Tick brands.

Sentry Purrscription Indoor has TOXIC ingredients in it for cats! Peppermint oil, clove oil and lemongrass oil are all toxic to cats. It makes up 20% of the ingredients. The other 80% are canola oil, vanilla (toxic) and citric acid. Why are they selling this poisonous concoction to be put on cats when 2/3rds of the ingredients are toxic to the very animals they're being used on? I've washed my cat with Dawn dish soap and I'm praying that he doesn't get as sick as some other people's pets. I managed to wash him within an hour or two of it being put on him, but I'm still very upset and shaken by the revelation that a company is not concerned about the health of the pets they're peddling medication to. This product is absolutely horrible! PetSmart should remove this product from the shelves immediately. One of the scariest and worst nights we have had in many years. I applied this to my 45 pound Chow at 10 PM and by 1045 all of the symptoms described in other complaints were happening. By 11 o’clock I was on the Internet and knew this was a reaction to this product. I was shocked and appalled by how many people have had the same reaction to their pet. If the symptoms would have worsened at all I would have taken my pad to the ER. As it was when I open the door to take her out to bathe her with Dawn dishwashing liquid, she immediately jumped in the pool.
My dog swims daily and I was unable to get her from the pool because it was the only relief she could find. I immediately based her with Dawn dishwashing soap three times. Finally at 2:00 AM we dried her off for the last time but upon doing so she immediately started with all of the symptoms again. I ended up holding my dog until 6 AM massaging the area that the product was applied. It was the only relief I could get her all night long! What an absolutely terrible product! I believe the company Sentry as well as PetSmart should be responsible for the damage this is causing to our pets! So I put the collars on them with the summer coming to be ahead of the flea season and I had taken them to the groomer and found out both dogs are loaded with fleas. I am very disappointed in this product. I gave both dogs a flea bath tonight and then I am hoping I can find a groomer that will help to get rid of these things. My dogs only go out for the bathroom and then back in. Now my house, must be fumed.

I bought Sentry Pro Flea & Tick Squeeze On for dogs for the proper body weight. Within 15 minutes my dog started running around and panting hard. She seemed to be very uncomfortable and rubbed her rump against everything like something was biting her. She’s whimpering. She couldn’t stay still and hasn’t had a nap in seven hours. I keep picking her up to hold her and her heart is pounding and her breathing is labored. I’m going to bathe her to see if I can get the stuff off her fur. I will never buy anything made by this company again. This product is made by Sergeant's Pet Care Products, Inc. I’m going to see if Petsmart in Norman, OK will give me a refund.

LOOKING FOR A LAWYER WHO WILL TAKE ON SENTRY IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT! I purchased the Sentry Pro XFT for our 103 lb. lab "Marley" on June 29, 2018. On 7/2/18 I administered it to Marley per instructions by parting the fur down his back about 2 inches down from his neck. The next morning when I came downstairs, I noticed a little bit of pink on the back of his neck showing through his fur. For the next several days he became listless and was continuously breathing harder. He spent most of his time lying on the floor and it often looked like he was fading. On Thursday 7/5/2018, I called. I set up a vet appt. for earliest time on 7/6/18. When the vet noticed the red spot shining thru his thick fur, she shaved him and when I saw him, I was horrified, disgusted, and scared. He had a blistering rash that was oozing, bleeding, and spread like wildfire. She put him on ** and antibiotics.
That same day I hugged Marley at one point (before vet appt. in afternoon) and a few hours later out of thin air, I had the most horrific allergy attack I've ever experienced. My eyes started itching uncontrollably. My eyelids thickened and became swollen. I had to take my contacts out. By evening my right eye was totally swollen shut and lasted over 24 hours. I had a rash underneath my shirt on my chest/stomach area. Also I had spots on the inside of my right arm; all places that had been in contact with the dog. It wasn't until 2nd dose of ** was in Marley (7/7/18) that the spread of the rash began to stop spreading. On 7/7/18, I also went back to talk to the manager(s) at PetSmart in Raleigh, NC. (I had gotten my money back the night before, but there was no manager on duty that night).
So I showed them the photos in their office and I told them the only thing I truly wanted was for them to IMMEDIATELY remove the products from their shelves which they claimed they would do that day. (I plan to check this weekend). I have opened a case with Sentry. I would like my vet bill paid for. But what I want more than anything in the world is for this product to be REMOVED from the market. I've since done research and seen all the horrible photos of pets with rashes exactly like Marley and worse. I've read about all the people whose beloved cat or dogs died within hours or a few days of having had Sentry products applied to their skin. It truly is heartbreaking. And the five days Marley was on the floor were terrifying.
He truly seemed to be fading at times. His ears had uncontrollable and involuntary twitching. He hides and sulks in corners now. He won't get on the couch with us anymore (he is allowed this as we have old couches) and hides as if he's a "bad dog" for having a rash. It's really sad to see the dog avoiding socialization now. I would like this product removed from the market for several reasons: 1. It's harmful or fatal to pets. (The smaller pets seem to fare far worse). The labels even say fatal to cats. But the writing is small. And consumers often don't understand massive amounts of instructions on a very small box.
2. It's dangerous to humans. Have there been incidents of babies or small children being harmed? Would people with sick children even connect the dots? I'm thinking of families who allow babies or toddlers or small kids to roll around the floor with their beloved dog, pet and smooch all over the cat, etc., not knowing. 3. The active ingredient cyphenothrin is a synthetic pyrethroid that is a neurotoxin to ticks and fleas. In small doses, it excites their nervous systems. In high doses it paralyzes them and they die. Well guess what? That's what happens to the pets as well. Since it's a transdermal application, it gets in the bloodstream and for some pets, they have severe, even fatal reactions.
4. The vast number of pets harmed or killed can EASILY BE found online. I have already started an online folder of documented injuries/deaths as well as contacts of victims for any attorney who takes this class action lawsuit to assist with research. 5. Perrigo, the parent company of Sentry needs to OWN the responsibility for this as their core values state online say they are a company of integrity; doing what is right and accepting responsibility; holding ourselves accountable for our actions.
Finally, let me add I would rather see the product pulled off the market forever than receive financial compensation. However, those that have experienced vet bills, or worse...the trauma of losing a beloved family member simply because they were trying to be responsible, loving, pet owners deserve profound compensation for pain and suffering. Can you imagine the guilt you feel when you see your family member/pet suffer because YOU did not understand the risks of such a dangerous product? You thought you were being loving and trying to help rid them of fleas. Instead you killed or harmed them! It's horrible!
Lastly: When I spoke to manager at PetSmart, they were kind enough to give me back the Sentry Pro XFT that I had returned the night before. (There were 2 vials left). They are unopened and I would love to have them tested for toxicity levels. Even when I called Sentry on the weekend the first time, the lady with their answering service said I may have gotten a bad batch, and perhaps this vial was more "concentrate". That made total sense and perhaps is a possibility. This is long enough. Let the photos speak for themselves and if any law firm would be willing to take the case, you will be doing a favor for all the unsuspecting pet owners across America who buy this product every day NOT knowing the dangerous risks they are about to take with their pet.
I don't want to see more testing done with this product and thereby jeopardizing other animals. I want it removed from the market!!! Alternative/cheaper/organic solutions exist that would not interfere with profitability. I pray others will see this and think twice before applying chemical neurotoxins found in (also endocrine disruptors in people) to their family pet. Most of the brands have complaints, but Sentry and Hartz seem to have a ton!

I purchased this product over this past weekend and applied it to my 5 year Beabull around 11pm. By 1am my Beabull was crying, whimpering, barking (which is NOT like him at ALL), when I opened his crate to see what was wrong his eyes were red and watery, he was panting, couldn't get enough water to drink and wanted to go outside to urinate (which again is NOT like him at ALL), he continued to do this almost hourly until I googled Sentry Pro XFT to see the reviews... I was shocked... He was doing EXACTLY what the most recent reviews described their animals were doing once they applied this HORRIBLE treatment to them. I immediately placed my dog in the tub and washed him very carefully with oatmeal shampoo and he was crying and panting. I made sure that I washed extremely good near the application site and kept rinsing with cool water.
This Sentry Pro XFT was applied to my Beabull at 11pm and again by 1am he was having the WORST reaction to this (this was the only thing that was different I did during our night time routine). He was up panting, whimpering, crying, barking and rolling around almost every hour (1am, 2am, 3am, 4am, 5am) until I put him in the tub around 6am and scrubbed him the best I could to remove this HORRIBLE Sentry Pro XFT treatment from him... I wish I had read these reviews prior to my purchase.
I will NEVER purchase this again and I will contact Sentry Pro to let them know that this product should be BANNED as well as my local Petsmart to REMOVE it from their shelves. I feel heartbroken knowing that I'm the one who caused my little fur-baby Beabull all of this harm, irritation and discomfort... Never again... If you see this and are tempted to purchase it, PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE SENTRY PRO XFT at all... It's pure POISON and your pet will THANK YOU that you didn't.

Have used for 3 years - I have a colony of 6 feral cats in a protected wilderness area on Staten Island, NY. Spring thru late autumn, fleas are terrible & I must provide protection for my gang. I used to use a broad-spectrum, prescription-only medicine that got rid of fleas, ear mites, & worms, but not ticks. A couple years ago, the deer population boomed & we got ticks. My vet recommended Frontline, but the ingredients in Sentry Fiproguard plus are identical and at a price often half as much, an important consideration for me with multiple cats. It is important, critical even, to apply ANY of these medications with great, great care -- even on a wiggling, crying feral cat -- as they are basically insecticides. They absolutely MUST be applied at the lower neck between the shoulder blades where the cat cannot paw or lick, and to part the fur & get the drops on skin at the base of the fur so it can spread & dilute.
I have used Sentry Fiproguard Plus on cats as young as 2 and as old as 9, weighing as little as 7 lbs. and as much as 20 lbs. I always observe them after I apply the drops. I have never, ever had a negative reaction or side effects of any kind. And the stuff works. No scratching, no ticks -- or rather, ticks who drop by & dig in pull out fast. By the end of the 30 days, the Fip+ is weakened & more meds must be applied. But as I say, the area where my colony site is located is a wilderness and would put any vermin preventative to the test.
The Sentry Fiproguard Plus has performed quite well for me. The price points make it appealing to me but as I said earlier, this Sentry product is identical in content to a more recognizable national brand name. The lower price does not indicate that it is cheap & cut rate. Rather, it is comparable to buying a generic over a brand name drug. I've used some other Sentry products over the years and by & large have been very satisfied with the results.

I bought Sentry ear mite medication (Earmite free ear miticide for cats) to help treat ear mites in my kitty, hoping to avoid a vet visit. The drops caused her ears to become very red and hot to the touch. Some of the skin on the inside started peeling a little as well. It was obvious that she was in pain. She became very lethargic and nervous, hiding behind the couch giving off the most pitiful meows, and trembling whenever anyone would touch her. This was very worrisome since she's usually an active and extremely affectionate cat. When I saw what it was doing I stopped the treatment, bathed her right away to get it off, and took her to the local animal clinic.
This was a very hard lesson to learn about trying to medicate my fur baby at home. She did have ear mites as I expected, but also had an ear infection. Instead of taking her to the vet in the first place, I ended up hurting her by trying to use the Sentry product. She's now on medicine not only take care of the infection but also to try and fix the damage done by these awful ear drops. So far, she seems to be doing better... but after reading other reviews I am still a little scared.
I had attempted to post an honest review on Sentry's webpage. Nothing in the review was inappropriate... it simply stated what had happened. I didn't call the product horrible, and even made an exception that perhaps my cat was sensitive to the ingredients. So it surprised me that an hour later I received an email stating that company moderators had deleted it. The fact that this company deleted an honest review (I assume because it told the truth about what the "medication" could do) makes me very angry. I will NEVER buy any of their products again. I will also make sure everyone I know with fur babies avoids them as well.

The box on this product (Sentry Pro XFT) should have FAR clearer warnings about side effects. My Boxer is 90 lbs and I used the product for dogs 61 lbs or more and he still had a severe reaction. His entire body/muscles were spasming/tremoring for almost an entire week. He was treated with ** and the vet had to prescribe muscle relaxers and ** so he could finally sleep after the first 4 sleepless nights of tremoring and pacing my house. It was awful. Now we're 10 days in and he's ok, Thank God! But he's still very sensitive when you touch anywhere where the medicine was. His muscles just lock up when you touch that area. I have faith that will go away soon, but the stress for him was hell. Not to mention vet bills and worrying that I hurt my perfectly healthy dog.
Don't use! Also, if you unfortunately used it on your dog before reading this and/or have a dog having reactions, OR your cat gets anywhere near a dog that has the medicine on him, wash the pet VERY well with a de-greasing soap (Dawn or Palmolive). The box for the product says to use mild soap...but that will NOT remove the product. Both vets I saw AND animal poison control said you must wash with a de-greasing soap because it's an oil based product. I wish I knew this. Do this, and get your pet to the vet! If you're lucky enough to read this before use, DO NOT USE! Learn from my mistake. Ask your vet for a better and safer flea/tick product!

If I could give this company negative stars I would, because they don't even deserve the one I HAVE to give them in order to write this review. I am in absolute horror as I sit here and read all of the stories about people either losing their pets or their pets suffering injury, pain and irreversible illnesses due to these products that are MARKED SAFE AND NATURAL! Below is a link to the first story I found regarding death after our cat became ill from SENTRY, that led me to here... **. Here is my story. My husband and I went to Petco to find a NATURAL flea treatment for our family's cat Skully, there is NO WAY we were going to KNOWINGLY put something toxic and harmful on our baby. We read all the instructions and ingredients on the products in the store and decided to go with the SENTRY Natural Defense flea and tick spray for cats because the ingredients on the bottle were natural oils like peppermint oil and cinnamon oil.
With ingredients like that it has to be safe right? WRONG! Almost IMMEDIATELY after applying this spray to our cat she began foaming at the mouth and crying...acting weird and hiding. The being a little upset I could understand, she's a cat and we just sprayed her down with something. But the foaming? That scared me, so I IMMEDIATELY called the 800 number on the bottle, the lady on the other end took all my info and our cats info and even gave me a case #, she calmly told me that the product is indeed all natural and safe and that the only reason my cat was drooling was because she must have not liked the taste when she licked herself. Just give her some water and she would be fine. Again...WRONG! Next day she was still not acting her normal playful and full of life self, she was hiding and wouldn't come near us. We bathed her 3 times to wash the product off...and we can still smell it on her.
She was so weak she couldn't even fight us. A cat in a bathtub barely moved. What does that tell you? Our poor baby was ill. Hair falling out, she's now limping on her front legs and is very weak, breathing hard and in obvious distress. We are absolutely heartbroken that something WE put on our pet has done this to her. We thought we were doing the right thing by going the NATURAL route and not opting to put poisons on her, now we are sitting here praying she survives. This PRODUCT HAS NO BUSINESS ON STORE SHELVES AND MUST BE BANNED!!! We are taking her to PETCO this am and demanding their clinic to care for our baby and that they take this KILLER OFF THE SHELVES! Next call is a lawyer, this company needs to be held accountable for their irresponsibility. I know better now than to EVER trust a product label and a store website reviews on products. They just simply cannot be trusted.
PLEASE do your research before using products on your pet, just because it's sold at PETCO doesn't mean it's safe. I have started a Facebook group called "Pet owners against SENTRY" here is the link. **. Please come join and share your story. FiproGuard for Dogs completely doesn't work. Waste of money. I chose the correct product for my dog's weight and applied correctly according to instructions. In the case of flea treatment, I believe the more money you pay the more effective the treatment.

I recently purchased two Sentry flea and tick collars for my cats from a local Dollar General against my best judgment, I was desperate and was unable to drive, so I purchased them, something is better than nothing. I had to take pictures this morning after the fourth day of combing both my cats so people would believe me. I had the collars on both my cats for a week and I have my whole house literally crawling with fleas. I am spraying flea spray all over my furniture and carpeting due to my cats’ persistent flea problem. My cats are constantly scratching and I have fleas even on myself. The collars aren't working and I would like for everyone to know not to buy these products. How can I make Dollar General responsible for the product that is on their shelves but manufactured by a company that is creating garbage. Beware of any Sentry product!

My perfectly healthy long haired Jack Russell was active & fine until I started giving her SENTRY FIPROGUARD due to the horrible tick season this year. Within 2 weeks after the first dose she developed dehydration & severe intestinal tract problems resulting in emergency surgery. After that episode, and a second month's dose of FIPROGUARD shortly thereafter she started dragging one leg, then two & finally was diagnosed with a neurological condition called ATAXIA resulting in the brain's inability to translate messages to the legs & their movement.
Gracie's quality of life diminished from that point so with no cure to be had I dreadfully had to put my sweet girl down. From all the research I've done & from reading these posts I have no doubt that my baby was poisoned & wholeheartedly agree that there should be a class action suit against the makers of SENTRY FIPROGUARD!! I will work towards that end & fight for other animals in Gracie's name that have to suffer such a dreadful fate!

I took the product back to the store I bought and exchanged it for their dual action flea and tick collars, three weeks after having put the collar on the second cat, he ended up raw around the neck. He has no hair and sores all around the neck where the collar wore off the hair. THREE weeks! Now after talking to the corporate office regarding this product, and the other product almost killing my cat, they seem to think they are only refunding me two collars, they got another thing coming. I can't get my cat back to how she was before and that is bull!

A Petco employee recommended Sentry Pro XFT saying it is the same as Frontline which I quickly found out is not true! My poor pug was in agony after applying the flea medicine. She can't sleep and her heart is racing. She is scratching and rubbing against furniture and running in circles. She is whimpering and clawing at me for help and shaking. I have talked to 2 vets and they both said this is a toxic flea medicine that affects the neuro system with no antidote and I can only wash her with dish soap and give her ** and hope she comes out of it. After reading multiple complaints about this poison I am very nervous about the outcome. Many people have lost pets from this awful stuff and my hearts go out to them after this experience.

I applied the above Sentry product (Fiproguard Plus Flea and Tick Squeeze) to my Coton de Tulear last night. She had a horrible reaction to pooping in the house, vomiting over six times this morning, and now is shaking (tremors). I called the company and the representative states it is unlikely a reaction to their product unless she ingested it. Which is crap. I put a portion of it on her and threw it in the tall wastebasket. She never had additional contact with the medication nor could she reach it with her legs or head. The representative said this reaction is uncommon and never had heard of this reaction. As I read this forum, obviously it does happen and not limited to my dog. The rep said she probably needs to go to the vet. Disgusting company. At least have a back-up plan so when dogs have a reaction we can curtail it from the beginning. NOT IMPRESSED and very angry with Sentry.

Two days ago I bought a Sentry flea and tick collar. I needed an affordable collar for the moment until I were to get paid the following week. I noticed that the following day my Chihuahua was not acting normal. I brushed it off due to me thinking he "marked" in my home or done something else he wasn't supposed to do. I woke up this morning and he was still acting a bit strange (his collar fell off of him last night beside the bed, but I told myself I'd put it back on him tomorrow). Things happen for a reason! I started petting my pup and I felt something around his neck, kind of like dried syrup/candy on his inner neck fur. So, I look and was horrified at what I seen. My baby has a sore on his little neck. I cringed as I parted his fur to get a clear view of this... I am truly sick at what this "flea collar" has done to my dog. This is obviously poison to animals. Yes! I should have reviewed the product first, but at that time it didn't cross my mind.
I am livid that products like these are even allowed on the shelf... But not shocked. Everyone I know always wonder why I use all natural for just about everything. I use whether my own products or for my babies. That same day that I got the Sentry flea collar I also purchased some all natural flea powder and shampoo. I wasn't able to the all natural flea tags that evening, they are $50 per tag and I have three pups. Needless to say, I took both collars off of my pups (I also had a collar on my shepherd mix pup, thank goodness he didn't develop a rash or sore). I will NEVER in my life purchase anymore products from Sentry. I will definitely be calling Sentry today and give them a picture perfect piece of my mind.

I bought this product at Petsmart thinking it was a safe product to use on my 10 year old cat. I used other mid priced brands without any issues. I by no means wanted to go cheap but felt this product should be good at the price it was. $25 for 3 single monthly doses. I applied on the back of the neck between the shoulder blades. He seemed fine. A little groggy as usual but not out of the ordinary. I was horrified in the morning when I saw his neck with patches of missing fur and a red rash. He was upset but not physically sick but I could tell he wasn't happy with his human. I panicked but he ate his food and was acting normal without anything else but the rash. I certainly will not use this product and will be returning it back to Petsmart completely dissatisfied with the outcome. Shame on all of you that let this overpriced cheap product sell on the shelves.

About 2 hours after I applied Sentry Pro to my 60 lb boxer female she started itching and acting irritated so we kept an eye on her and gave her a **. She then fell asleep. The next day she was acting irritated again so we decided to give her a bath. After she dried we then observed her behavior to see if she was any better and she wasn't. So then we tried to give her another bath to rinse off the product. While giving her a bath, when I was rinsing her off she dropped dead in the bathtub and I had to immediately pull her out of the tub and onto the floor. I then began CPR and chest compressions and about five minutes later I was able to bring her back. We then took her to the emergency vet and after tests they decided to keep her overnight.
At around 6:30 a.m. that morning the vet called me to tell me that she had passed away. After reading the reviews and what other pet owners have gone through with this product and other flea and tick treatments it fits exactly what we went through with Lilly. I believe in my heart that this is what killed my three year old boxer. I believe flea and tick treatments are dangerous and should not be used on dogs or cats.

Sentry PurrScriptions - I bought this product for my 3+ month old kitten since I was bringing home another much younger, feral kitten. I bought without looking at reviews but the product *looked* trustworthy in the store. Anywho, I applied about half the dosage but the scent was still overpowering. I monitored my older kitten as much as possible but she still managed to get some in her mouth because she's a cat and she does as she pleases. She began foaming at the mouth and "chewing." I haven't noticed any major behavioral changes though save for the tension of the new kitten in her territory. I washed off as much as she would let me with Dawn but I can still smell the medication on her. It is late at night so there is no vet available. I am terrified that I will wake up to her sick, or worse. There doesn't seem to be a solution even if I do take her to the vet tomorrow. I don't know what to do.

My 4 year old cat had snuck out into the yard a few times. So against my better judgment we decided to buy a collar to prevent fleas and ticks. I went to PetSmart and after what seemed like forever I decided to go with a collar instead of the drops. Sentry PurrScriptions, dual action with natural oils. Now when I say I obsessively Google reviews on everything, know that that is an understatement. Why I didn't review something that I was putting on one of my animals is seriously eating away at me. My cat is usually snuggled up in his bed unless he's eating, so I did not notice the reaction until it was too late.
I was feeding him today and he happened to jump up to his food and I saw that his fur in the top of his neck was gone... bald, right to the skin. His skin is severely affected and raw, and the irritation started to completely ring around his neck. I immediately took off the collar and washed him. His behavior never changed after putting it on… he acted like it wasn't even there, I just can't believe this. Then I did a search for reviews and cried seeing the reviews for this company. HOW CAN THESE PRODUCTS STILL BE ON THE SHELVES!!! Today I'm going to PetSmart, bringing the collar and packaging in with the pictures. I will show the manager the reviews from this site as well as my pictures and demand they be removed, for whatever good it will do.

I bought this product at PetSmart on Saturday and put SentryPro XFT down my German Shepherd back. Within minutes my dog was running crazy scratching and whining. I thought because she is a big puppy and this was her first treatment she just maybe didn't like the feel. As the hour was passing she was acting worse and ripping out her undercoat. I looked up online then about the product and saw all the reviews in horror. I quickly got Dawn and bathed her three times. She was still miserable shaking, pacing, rapid heartbeating, whining, and now drooling uncontrollably. She didn't sleep. She was up yelping, scratching, having muscle spasms, pacing, and so on.
On Monday morning a friend stated his dog experienced the same thing with this product and recommended Burt's Bees dog shampoo. I immediately bought Burt's Bees shampoo and Benadryl. I gave her two baths with it and then gave her Benadryl. Still with little relief. She was running and yelping like she was set on fire as she was scratching out her hair. I continued to try to help her so by later in the evening I read Chamomile tea could help. So I boiled it, cooled it and started putting that on her back and giving it to her to drink. She stopped drooling. She was feeling relief as I did it but when she would get dry she was yelping in pain again here and there. I used a spray bottle to keep wetting her with the chamomile Tea. I gave her another bath in Burt's Bees and Chamomile tea. She finally fell asleep about 11:00 pm and was no longer yelping. She slept through the night.
By now Tuesday she is still not 100% but definitely feeling better! She is no longer pacing, drooling, yelping, having muscle spasms, scratching uncontrollably. She is eating and drinking fine. She is still trying to reach her back here and there licking where she was treated but it's not as often and is playing again! I'm going to continue with the Burt's Bees shampoo and Chamomile tea.
Due to all the online reviews I read I decided for my dog taking her to the vet was not worth it. So I tried other things which worked thank goodness. But I wish I would have read all the reviews before I used the product. I will say from now on I will do the research. Please beware and do not buy this product. As soon as I saw this reaction, I gave him a deep shower with his normal black coat shampoo, but still didn't help. At the vet they suggested bathing him with Dawn and I did, twice. Next day he went to the vet again where he was treated with antihistaminics, anti-inflammatories and another shower. He still is shaking his ears (floppy), but in better shape than the day before. I bathed my Frenchie Bulldog earlier in Sentry Flea & Tick Shampoo for dogs & Puppies Sunwashed Linen Scent, because I found a tick on her after being out on the property with us. Four hours later, I notice she's very lethargic, did not come get her dinner, and her head would shake and bob, and then every 15-30 seconds she does this quick jerk backwards with her head, and her eyes wide. She's pretty much limp, her back legs are always in squat mode, even walking. She's foaming at the mouth and it is all over her chest.
SO I bathed her in the Dawn twice, THEN I used a charcoal detoxifying shampoo on her and left it on for about 15 minutes wrapped up in a towel... limp in my arms. I got some honey water down her, about a tablespoon and a ** and some cheese. Just a bit... (Make a couple "cheese balls, feed it, then squeeze some around the pill, give it, then a couple more balls for good measure). Anyways the bath seemed to help a bit, but she seems the same... not worse. I will go on to the vet in a few hours, it's 2am. I can't sleep. I'm so worried.

A regretful life changing purchase as a first time customer. I purchased Sentry Purrscriptions Plus for cats from my local Petco store around May 25th, 2017. I went in specifically for flea medicine for my cat and after careful comparison of the different types, I chose this one. The deciding factor why I bought it was because it said quick drying, economical and it claimed to do everything else the other brands did. I also read the cautions on the box while in the store and my cat met all the requirements deeming it safe for application. So I felt confident and made the purchase. When I was about to apply it to my cat, I re-read the cautions, instructions and double checked I had the right one. Everything was a go and I had no hesitations about it in general or how to apply it as I have done this many times before.
Long story short is that as of today, May 30th, 2017 the end result is this: I tried to do something good for my fur baby while trying to save money but instead, I came home today with a near $300 vet bill and with news from the doctor that they recommend euthanasia for my family pet. He has heart failure and fluid filling up in his lungs. My cat went from being completely healthy and strong to doing a 180 degree turn for the unthinkable. He was active, eating and drinking like the little piglet he is, playful and social to fighting for his life throughout the Memorial Day weekend. I so wish I never ever bought this product because had I not, my kitty cat would be perfectly fine. His time with our family would not be getting prematurely cut short due to this horrible, I repeat HORRIBLE product! Completely heart broken!
The sickening part is Sentry has received an astronomical number of complaints concerning their products due to severe illness or death. This is for both dogs and cats. I myself have emailed twice in the last four days and I have not had a reply. Needless to say, even if my cat hadn't gotten deathly ill, their product is not quick drying as they advertise! It was the worst ever. Dark, oily residue at site of application with pink colored skin. My cat suffered severely and is paying with his life! Just as many other animals have too! All for the sake of Sentry's profits! They are completely aware of the extreme adverse reactions their products are having to people's pets, including mine.

I purchased the Sentry Pro XFT 61-80 lb. formula for my 2-year-old, 71 lb. Plott hound when we ran out of our usual preventative. I was trying to save some money and figured if it was sold at PetSmart, which is where I purchased it, then it should be fine to use. Wrong. My dog and I suffered allergic reactions to the product. I washed my hands after applying, but must have brushed against my dog at some point because my nose, eyes, and cheeks swelled. I felt a mild burning sensation throughout my nose and face for the next 12-hours and the tip of my nose went completely numb. Now, 36 hrs. later I feel fine.
My dog on the other hand is still suffering. Within three hours he was extremely agitated and couldn't sit still without scratching. Since I was also reacting, I knew it had to be the Sentry and immediately washed him down with Dawn soap and water. I washed him down twice more throughout the night while no one slept because my dog would only calm down if someone was running their hand over his agitated skin. I took him to the vet in the morning where he was given 5-days' worth of steroids. He is finally beginning to calm down. Having read reports about other dogs reactions, I know I am lucky that my dog's was mild by comparison and I don't foresee any lasting damage.
Going forward, I will never again skimp on spending for a product that touched my dogs skin. I will also say, and luckily can say since my dog is recovering nicely, that the support I received from Sentry was apologetic and helpful in telling me about the Dawn soap. That said, I will never be using any of the products owned by this company again.

As the evening progressed things only got worse. He could not sit or lay down due to discomfort. He began twitching, jumping, and running around the house.
At this point we poured cold water on him to try and settle him down which didn't help. During the night, we then gave him a full bath which did nothing to help his discomfort. I'm ticked off after buying this stuff and reading these reviews. I'm awaiting the outcome after putting it on my Shih Tzu. He didn't like it so I washed it right off and looked it up. Now I'm heated. Who do they think they are? I'd like to put this stuff on the owner of Sentry and see how he likes it.

After administering this Sentry Fiproguard Plus flea medication on my 3 cats (one who's nursing a 3 day old kitten) I went on to read the reviews and began to panic after reading the horror people have gone through with this brand. I am however one of the lucky ones. My cats had no bad reactions and the next day I started finding dead fleas on my bed and in my restroom floor. This stuff really works. I kept my cats away for a few hours after I administering the medication so they wouldn't lick it off one another.

As senior citizen on a very tight budget I decided to go to the local animal control facility and get a dog as a companion. For a fee of $40 I brought home an amazing little dog that the pound had named Snickerdoodle. Snickerdoodle obviously had been neglected and allowed to run loose before coming to the pound. In spite of this, she had plenty of energy and a perky personality but was infested with fleas. I brought her home and we bonded immediately as I gave her a warm bath with flea shampoo.
Later we went out to my large fenced back yard and as she joyfully raced around the yard at top speed I decided to rename her Bullet. The next morning as we snuggled on the couch I realized that she still had a lot of fleas in spite of the shampoo I had given her so I made a trip to Petsmart and purchased Sentry brand flea medicine for small dogs. Having had dogs in the past, I was aware of proper application procedures so I carefully applied the medicine as directed. I did not see an immediate reaction, however the following day I noticed that she threw up.
The next day there was more vomiting and she started to lose her appetite and only drank water. Although I gave her the food that initially she ate with relish, she only looked at it and walked away. By the next day (Sat.) she had become very lethargic and when I went outside with her I realized she had severe diarrhea. She was still drinking water but was not tempted by the bland rice with boiled hamburger that I fixed for her. Sunday she had diarrhea in the house and the odor was extremely bad.
On Monday morning, one week after I brought her home from the pound, I made an appointment at the vet as she was deteriorating rapidly and my efforts had not improved the situation. At the vet I explained that I felt the dog had a reaction to the Sentry flea medicine since she had changed drastically starting the day after I put it on her. The vet then asked if she had experienced any neurological symptoms and when I replied no, she stated in that case she did not feel it was a problem caused by the flea medicine but possibly could be Parvo. (The dog had been vaccinated for Parvo while at the pound.)
The vet then went on to say that in order to diagnose and treat the dog she would have to keep her for testing and observation. As there was no way a definite cost for this could be given at that point and I knew from past experience it would possibly run into hundreds of dollars, I made the unhappy choice due to budget considerations to have my sweet little pound dog that I brought home just one week before euthanized so her suffering would end. I feel that both Perrigo and Petsmart are unethical to continue selling this product and I also feel that vets should reconsider whether this product can be harmful and possibly fatal even when no neurological symptoms are experienced. Perrigo stated they would not pay my claim for the vet expenses I incurred since the vet felt their product was not at fault. However, they did reimburse me for the cost of their product (minus sales tax!) that caused me so much grief and expense.

March 24, 2017 at 8:00 pm after reading the directions and the all natural ingredients with no chemical mentioned I applied the flea tick mosquitoes drops to my 1 year old kitten. Immediately after application I smelled the very strong odor. He ran away into the corner and started to try and shake the drops off then my kitten started foaming white slimy bubbles at the mouth while making and doing a chewing sound and motion with his mouth. I immediately started to wash the now oily drops off. He allowed me to only to foam at the mouth more and the more I washed him he relaxed then running under my bed refusing to come to me. His behavior was completely changed. I serve a Mighty High Powerful God and He was in total control while I hysterically took care of my kitten (Son) who trust me to do so now has every reason not to trust me.
I watched him throughout the night into the next day. Washed him several times again and now noticing hair loss where I applied this product. I wished I never did this to him. I'm watching him get back to his lovable self and trusting me as his Mom instead of some kind of monster stranger. I had to tell my story and my horrific experience because I love him with all my heart. Then I Googled this medication, read these stories, cried, prayed and ask God to comfort these people. I don't know but we shared a very intimate experience by just loving our family member. I'm thankful my lil man (kitten) is going in a positive direction of feeling better but I had to publicly document this. This is a harmful product and need to be taken off the shelves and completely out of business. DOCUMENT, SHARE, KEEP RECORDS.

I used this product on Saturday, March 11th. My ex-husband brought his puppy over on Sunday to spend the day with our boys. Monday morning he is lethargic and wobbly, peeing appt and acting as if he couldn't get enough to drink. By Tuesday it got worse, he had trouble walking at all and would respond to sound. Come Wednesday he was running a fever so I gave him a bath to soothe him. During the bath he went completely limp so I took him out. His body tensed up, his head flung back and he began seizing (screaming out like no sound I've ever heard). I rushed him to the vet.
The vet said it sounded like he had gotten into a toxic chemicals so he gave him an IV and sent him home for me to monitor (money was tight so he couldn't stay). When home he ate a little but I had to force feed him Pedialyte and water every hours. He couldn't hold his eyes open, was not responsive and was soiling himself. His pee had specks of blood in it and he was peeing like every 20-30 minutes. Come 11 pm he started having seizures, his breathing got more shallow by the moment. He seized off and on for 3 hours struggling for breath (especially in between episodes). He passed at 2 am on Thursday morning. All this resembles liver failure which Sentry products have been known for. I am devastated???

I applied Sentry Pro XFT on our 3 dogs this morning. They are 80, 60 & 25 lbs and all are about the same age - 11 years old. Our youngest, Jack became ill a few short hours after the application. He has been crying, restless, panting, can't walk well and a host of other problems. Once we realized how seriously ill he was, we rushed him to our Vet. He looked the product up and found that it can cause neurological problems in small dogs. Say what??? He gave our Jack a steroid shot and told us to bathe him twice 3 hours apart with a product like baby shampoo. Nothing with flea or tick medications in it. He was so miserable after the first bath, I called the emergency 800 number on the package. I was told that there is a known problem using the product on smaller dogs. It has to do with one of the chemicals used. It causes tingling and pain and all of the other symptoms he is experiencing.
I was instructed to bathe him with Dawn, concentrating on the specific areas where it was applied, to open up Vitamin E softgels and apply the Vitamin E on the areas affected and to apply ice packs. The rep also told me that it could take up to 72 hours for all of this to pass. Now, are you ** kidding me?! These yahoos know this product should not be used on smaller dogs. Why are they producing an inferior product? This product is dangerous! DO NOT USE!!!
I told the woman that this is woeful neglect and is unconscionable to do this to animals. I then told her to take the product and apply it to her small dog and see what happens! I will be taking the product back in the morning and will be writing a letter to the company as I believe the more letters written, the better their response. So PLEASE if you have had problems with the product, WRITE! I wish I had asked for ** and or pain killer from the Vet but didn't. The only thing that seems to be helping right now is we are holding and petting him constantly to try to comfort him.

I recently purchased Sentry Pro XFT PetSmart. I had 4 dogs and normally buy the generic Frontline from Sams's Club but they haven't had any in stock lately and I was in PetSmart and decided to buy the Sentry product. I have never used it before but seeing as how it was a pet store I didn't hesitate to purchase this product, BIG MISTAKE!!!! On Jan 15th, around 3:30 pm I applied the Sentry product to all 4 of my dogs. At approximately 8:00 pm my 11 year old Chocolate lab started having convulsions. He was diagnosed with Laryngeal paralysis in Nov 2016 but has been doing well.
We attempted to get him to go out and it took approx 10 mins to get him up he walked the 75 feet to the door and then just collapsed. After much coaxing he attempted to stand and his whole body started convulsing like he was having a seizure and he was having trouble breathing so my wife and I assumed it was his larpar causing the issue. We then decided with heavy hearts that we couldn't make him suffer if he was going to keep having convulsions. So we called the vet and took him in.
He went peacefully that night. However when we got home we let our 2 9 year old female pits out of their kennel and Sadie couldn't stand and was twitching and convulsing just like our lab Brody. My wife and I then came to the realization it was the Sentry Pro XFC we had given them earlier. I immediately googled Sentry pro XFC and was horrified at what I found page after page about poisoning and other complaints against this product. Then this page almost 600 complaints to consumer affairs in almost every state.
I immediately called the vet and was instructed to bring Sadie in immediately. Once at the vet was told Sergeant's flea and tick products were toxic and never to use them. Sadie was bathed and observed overnight and as of today is symptom free. However this morning 1/17/17 my other pit and beagle were both anxious and when I tried to pet either of them on the back they both whined in pain near the product application site. I immediately bathed both with Dawn and thankfully both seem much better now. HOW CAN THEY SELL SUCH AN OBVIOUSLY TOXIC PRODUCT???

The only thing I did different was use this product. I got on here to research it and was shocked.
I bathed my girl 3 times, leaving the soap on each time for a few min. After that I poured baking soda and apple cider vinegar and let that soak. It's been an hour and she seems to be fine, but I think that is due to me noticing immediately. And I don't know how she will be when she wakes up. This all happened within 3 hours. I also bought for my 15 lb cat. He isn't showing symptoms, but I washed him too. I don't want the poison anywhere near my pets. I'm so disgusted with myself for trying to save a buck. She was in terrible pain. I got her into the vet and they actually had to sedate her to shave her down. She's now on medication for the next two weeks. What I thought was saving money by buying this, shall we say poison, ended up costing me close to $300.00 to save my dog. I sent a picture of my dog to the company and I was told to fill out the form they attached. I won't even bother because I know it will not go any further than an opened email on their part. My sister and I bought Sentry XFT Pro at PetSmart on October 29, 2016. My sister is a vet tech and applied the product to our older dogs -- Maybel (11) and Alvin (10) because we adopted a puppy that had fleas. (We also purchased Capstar -- generic version for the puppy.) Exactly 5 hours after my sister applied the Sentry Pro XFT, Alvin was growling. He was by my feet, so I checked on him. I noticed that he was air scratching with his hind legs, his muscles were twitching, he was having spasms, shaking like he was wet and trying to dry himself off, tremors, and weakness. He was taken to the ER. The vet thought his symptoms were back related because he had back surgery a little over 2 years ago.
On Sunday, October 30th, Maybel was sleeping with me, and I could feel her leg twitching. She had all the same symptoms as Alvin, but to a lesser degree. While I was tending to the dogs, my mom called the number on the box, and spoke to Abby. Abby told us to wash the dogs in a dish detergent, like Dawn 3x, apply vitamin E oil to the site where the medication was applied, and to use an ice pack on the site. She said the symptoms would resolve within 24 hours.
Alvin's symptoms got worse after his bath. My mother called the number on the box again. The representatives are basically reading off of a script and are no help at all. Alvin was taken back to the ER. The strange thing is, his symptoms would abate when he'd go to the vet. The vets were never seeing the full extent of his symptoms. (I think they thought we were crazy, even though my sister works there and showed them videos.)
On Monday, October 31st, we called the number on the box again. Both dogs were still experiencing symptoms and getting worse. The representative told us to take the dogs to the vet and have them call them... Our vet did not call the company, she called poison control and Ohio State. There is no antidote. The only thing that was recommended was ** 500 mg three times a day. That didn't work. Went back to the vet on November 1st. Another vet was there. He did research. He called the company. The representative told the vet that the symptoms could last 72 hours. Why did they keep telling my mom 24 hours? And, when the vet calls because my dogs aren't getting better, suddenly it can take up to 72 hours?
On November 2nd, we called the number on the box AGAIN. The product was washed off of both dogs on October 30th, around noon. Both dogs were worse, not better. Alvin's symptoms were much worse. Again, the representative said to take him to the vet. (That's what we had been doing every day since we applied the Sentry Pro XFT.) We called our vet. He thought it would be better to take him back to the ER. The same vet that examined him over the weekend, examined him again. He came into the exam room and apologized for believing the issue was his back.
Alvin's symptoms progressed from hind leg issues to twitching of the front legs. He also had facial twitching. (Maybel had the same symptoms, but as I said, to a lesser degree.) Although Alvin's symptoms got better when he was excited, the vets were able to observe his symptoms while he was hospitalized. Alvin's blood work was perfect. So an infection was ruled out. Alvin was released the following day. The vet said to keep both dogs on the ** for 7 days. If they didn't get better, the next step would be to consult with a neurologist.
I recently lost 2 dogs within weeks of each other. A 12 year old beagle who had chronic kidney disease and likely cancer. (She developed several large masses quickly, along with clumps of swollen lymph nodes). And, an almost 14 year old pug, who had so many health problems. I had 2 healthy dogs. Both recently had physicals. Now, they're air scratching, their legs are shaking, they're having muscle spasms, tremors, and twitching? Alvin is weak. He cries, whimpers, and moans. That's a terrible life. I don't know what they're feeling, but it has to be horrible to not have control of your own body. Their personalities have changed. I don't know if it's because they don't feel well or if it's because of the product. But they are not the same dogs.
When you call the number on the box, it directs you to the main company, which is Sergeant's. My mom was told that I could submit their medical bills and fill out forms. The bills have to be paid in full. And, from my understanding, they will decide whether or not they will pay the bills. I'm 36 years old and disabled. I've borrowed money to pay their bills. I don't even know the cost of the hospitalization. I know I can't afford to pay for it. Sergeant's is responsible. I would NEVER have applied Sentry Pro XFT on my dogs, if I knew there was a chance this could happen. From the research I've done, there have been enough incidences that it should be listed as a side effect/complication on the box. The fact that the company continues to ignore this problem is pure negligence. I may not have money to get a lawyer, but I intend to go to the media. Pet owners need to be made aware of the dangers of this product.
Today is 11/24/16. I'm finally finishing this review. We never had to take Alvin and Maybel to the neurologist. Slowly, their symptoms subsided. Both dogs still have skin sensitivity (especially outside when the wind blows). This product needs to be taken off the shelves before this happens to another dog or cat. We've used Frontline and Revolution before, without any problems. Sentry Pro XFT left a greasy mess all over my dog's fur.
In the past, whenever I applied Frontline or Revolution, once it was applied to the skin and I put their fur down. I couldn't see where it was applied. Sentry Pro XFT left a greasy residue on their fur. Their fur was still greasy when we bathed them the following day. That's extremely dangerous for humans and pets. The product can rub off on anything and an animal can lick it. A human can pet their dog and without thinking eat or do anything where they'd ingest some of the chemicals. Simply petting your animal, would expose humans to the chemicals.
I'm not sure if Sentry Pro XFT is supposed to be greasy or if I received a defective product? I don't know if the package was labeled incorrectly. We bought the package labeled for dogs 21-39 pounds. The barcode on my package is 7309102910. Regardless, the issue remains... I have 2 dogs that were healthy. My sister applied Sentry Pro XFT and they were air scratching, twitching, shaking as if they're trying to dry off, having tremors, spasms, and skin sensitivity.
DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!! (Because I am disabled and suffer from a disease that causes chronic pain, I advocate for chronic pain patients.) I will do everything I can to get this product off the shelves. I have videos of my dogs. Sergeant's knows this product is dangerous and continues to sell it, without even a warning on the box. If it was a human medication, and 1% of patients suffered a side effect or complication, it would be listed. It should be the same for animals.

I put the Sentry flea and tick drops on my 35lb beagle. Within hours the site where I applied it became severely irritated. He kept rolling on his back yelping out in discomfort. I called their after hours line and was told to bathe him with Dawn, which I did. It's been 2 days and he's still very uncomfortable and barking/yelping out in discomfort. The affected area was oozing and now it's scabbed up. He's still licking at certain spots and I'm afraid he's going to lose his fur. I've been giving him ** which seems to help for a while. But last night I was woken up by the constant rolling around and yelping. Terrible experience.

Do NOT use Sentry Pro Flea and Tick Topical Spray for Dogs/Cats. I am heartbroken as my third cat is dying from use of this product. It causes seizures, confusion, total neurological problems... stumbling when trying to walk, falling down, and hiding from the people they love so much. Then they stop eating and drinking. I am beyond upset, and so mad at myself for buying this product that has already killed two of my healthy babies, and the third will have to be put down in the morning. We are talking about healthy indoor cats!
Updated on 01/26/2017: All together I lost 4 cats. When I wrote my original complaint, my 3rd baby was dying. How can these people get away with this? HOW CAN THEY CONTINUE TO KILL AND MAIM OUR PETS? I lodged a formal complaint with Perrigo, who is the parent company of Sentry (and MANY other big name brands). They wouldn't even reimburse me for the cost I spent on the product!! They killed the loves of my life!!!

I had used it on a previous golden retriever without incident but today when I put it on my current Golden he experienced every single symptom everyone mentions here. Gave him **, bathed him with Dawn, bathed him with Johnson's Baby Shampoo, even had him swim in the pool for an hour. He came out of the pool & the first thing he did wasn't to shake all the water off, it was to start biting the base of his tail! Now he's scratching, rolling, drooling incessantly, panting again & he's suddenly jumping on my sofa - something he's never done! I will be filing complaints with the Consumer Product Safety Commission & anyone else who wields any power over companies with unsafe products.

We gave this treatment to our three dogs. Two did okay. The other we weren't so lucky. Within a short time (30 mins) he was pacing and acting like he was on fire, looked it up and saw all the horrible things. We immediately did the Blue Dawn twice it burned thru his fur and left him with huge sores. About a week later he was throwing up and acting lethargic so off to the vet for blood work. Came back with very high liver counts. Needless to say this Thursday we will be putting our beloved dog to sleep, our kids are heartbroken as I am too. He is in complete liver failure. He can't eat or drink without throwing up. His stomach is so bloated he looks pregnant. I swear if I knew this was going to happen I never would have put my dog thru such hell. We are heartbroken and hate seeing him like this. Why are they still selling this??? Maybe they should put it on themselves and see what it feels like!! How could you sell this? Heartless.

To say that I am angry is an understatement. I went to one of the largest pet supply chains and purchased flea medication for my 3 cats. I purchased Sentry Purrscription Plus for cats over 5 pounds and at least 12 weeks old. It is the purple box. Very soon after applying it to my animals in the correct dose, my youngest cat began having seizures and disorientation. She had vomiting and loss of balance. My two older cats also became skiddish and disoriented. They also have bald spots and chemical burns where it was applied. My animals suffered with these symptoms for 3 days. After doing research on the product, I became aware of hundreds of cases like mine with some having to euthanize their pets to end their suffering. Why is this product and others like it still being sold? Something has to be done! If a human ever had a reaction to meds it would be immediately removed and recalled. Please help. This is so disturbing.

He's okay now thankfully. After reading the other comments I feel terrible that I gave it to him without researching the product first. There seemed to be more fleas on him than he started with and it caused so many serious problems. Thank goodness he wasn't one of the cases where the animal passed away from it. A week ago I applied the appropriate dosage of Sentry Pro XFT topical flea and tick medicine to my 3 dogs, 2 labs, and a Shiba inu. One of the labs reacted where he started twitching while laying down. It wasn't a seizure but reminded me of when dogs run in their sleep. The second lab started gnawing on an area near his tail. He chewed to the skin. The Shiba inu chewed badly so I got her a cone. I called the vet line associated with the product which is really not a vet line at all but more like calling customer service. Was told to bathe 3 consecutive times in blue dawn. Did this with all three animals. Was told that in some pets it causes a tingling sensation like pins and needles. And dogs don't understand it.
It was supposed to go away after 2 days. Well it's been over a week. The vet told me to do ** to relieve any itching where they had already been chewing or scratching. Yesterday the Shiba inu got her cone off while unsupervised and chewed through her skin into her muscle. She's going in to the vet today and I'm praying there isn't lasting damage. Would not recommend this product. I only wish I had seen these reviews before buying.

We used the Sentry product nearly a month ago on all four of our animals, two dogs and two cats. Luckily, two of them, one small dog and one cat, did not have any reaction to the product. I would note that they did not kill the fleas on hand. However, the first reaction we noticed was on our 100 lb dog. He had open sores on the back of his neck where the treatment was administered. This took almost two weeks to completely heal. This was terrible but not even close to the worst reaction that was had by the product. A couple hours after administering this product to our cat, we notice he was lethargic, panting and have neurological issues, unable to walk correctly. We took him to the vet immediately. He was treated for POISON. After multiples phone calls with the veterinarian and discussions of possible euthanasia, they were able to administer enough fluids to flush out his system, enough to break his fever.
Now, I would do anything to save my animals as they are not property, they are family. That trip to the vet cost us in excess of $1,200. After looking at reviews, which I admit I should have done in the first place, many others have the same complaints of these symptoms occurring to their animals. I feel truly sorry for those who couldn't be saved. DO NOT RECOMMEND. EVER. They are marketing to the middle to lower class due to the lower price but a product that has had this many complaints from families with sick pets should have been taken off the shelf a long time ago. Again, I DO NOT RECOMMEND. Indulge and spend the extra $50 to get a product that has been proven to work and keep your pet safe.

Recently I have been getting a lot of flea bites, which I am allergic to. Haven't had this in many years. Have dogs 10 and 13 and never in their lives did I get one flea bite. Which brought me to the human flea bite site, which mentioned this site. My dogs are not itching and currently seem ok. However after reading the reviews I knew this was why I had the bites and thinking back to the beginning of the month when we give the flea drops, I was horrified. My two Bassett Hounds were so sick at the beginning of the month it was very sad. I have never seen a "lake" of vomit but this is what happened to both my dogs. Diarrhea and shaking as well. Looking frightened and acting very unusual. I guess I attributed the shaking to all the vomiting. At least they were continuing to drink, and one was eating small amounts. I never once thought it could be from the flea medication.
My husband had purchased Sentry Pro Fiproguard, he said it was less expensive and had the same medication as Frontline Plus. We never looked it up. I just thought our poor pups had a GI bug and I had examined the backyard to see if there was anything dangerous out there but found nothing. They were sick for about a week. We are in a slump financially or he never would have bought the cheaper brand. I also tried to not take them to the vet for the same reason, but almost did. I thought "they've vomited before and survived it ok".
Now that I know this is like poison I would have taken them. They did not get baths or **. I will say no sores or redness seem to be on them. They have had bath since then. The only reason I even found out was because of my own flea bites. They are not scratching but we surely will be going back to our Frontline Plus next month. I have to thank the numerous reviews here and elsewhere or we may have continued to use the other doses. I will report this and report it to my vet.

I gave in baths and they did not seem to help. I call Sentry and the medical person told me that if would not cause any neurological problems, which fly biting seems to be.
She said it would only travel on the surface of the skin, ya sure! I asked her why were some pets die from using this and was told she knew of no pets dying from using the product. I then talk to one of the customer reps and he told me that the company reads all of the complaints and determine from that about whether to leave it on the market. My 5 year old Border Collie immediately started rolling around on her back, rubbing against things, and running around the house. I let her outside and she found a dirt patch to roll in. She doesn't usually like having stuff on her so we thought that was all it was but the next day she was still upset, shaking, panting, climbing up on us obviously upset. We looked at her back where it was applied and it looked like she had been burned!!
We gave her a bath with gentle dog shampoo to wash it off (I hadn't seen the recommendations for Dawn). We washed her twice and have been putting triple antibiotic on her wounds. She seems better but is still trying to get at her back, where she now has a scab on one of the "burn" spots. We're taking her to the vet to have them check her out. She's fine now (thankfully all that was needed was a shot and it cleared up in a few days). My other cat (she's 7 1/2 years old) had the WORST reaction to it! She ended up with a bad eye infection that I had to take to an emergency vet since my usual vet is closed on Sundays. The vet blamed it on a herpes virus since they didn't want to get involved and gave her an eye drop for it. It's been a week to the day and now she's STILL having eye problems. It's still gunky, runny, red, and she's barely keeping it open. I think she's actually gone BLIND in the eye since I can put my finger right up near her eye and she doesn't notice it, but I have to wait till tomorrow to take her to my usual vet so she can be looked at by someone who cares.
All natural product? All natural my foot! Something in those collars is causing all these problems, and it has to be some kind of pesticide. Should have looked up the reviews before buying. People buy flea medication to kill fleas not our pets! We used this product last night on our dog, within two hours he was pacing through our house with a frightened demeanor, then started whimpering & crying with uncontrollable itching & it seemed like he was in pain. We too called the number on the box & was told to wash him 3x in a row with Dawn dish soap so we did. He then started having SEVERE muscle spasms & tremors. I stayed up all night with him giving him several baths & also wiping him down w/ a cool wash rag to get off as much remaining "poison" off of him.
The spasms, itching & tremors continued all night thru this morning. He got so weak he couldn't move nor lift his head. We felt so helpless watching this. I held him petting him, apologizing to him & praying. I carried him to the tub & scrubbed him with Dawn AGAIN. He had no appetite & refused to drink. I kept wiping him w/ a rag & massaging his body as he spasmed. Slowly he has begun moving again & THANK GOD has ate & drank a little bit. I believe he is going to make it. He still has twitching in his legs but not as severe as last night/this morning. Our vet told us the main ingredient in this 'medication' is a pesticide used in bug bombs & used for home extermination of cockroaches & has even caused complications in human health.
This product needs to be banned from the market asap! It is AWFUL to watch your pet in agony. This has potent chemicals in it that obviously shouldn't be on our pets but what about the kids & pregnant mothers who pet their pets & come in contact with this poison? I don't know how these people sleep at night knowing they are poisoning & killing animals. I pray our dog pulls through & also pray for the other dogs We've read about on here. Good luck & God bless!

I so wish I had read all these reviews before I purchased Sentry XLT. Petsmart is completely liable for continuing to sell this product and Sentry must be made to stop. I have switched to another pet store for my supplies. We administered the product to our 3 year old dog as per his weight and the instructions. My wife woke me up around 3am completely terrified of what was going on with the dog. He was laying on top of her shaking uncontrollably. He is not a nervous dog by nature so we were immediately tense about something being wrong. He could not stand on our tile floor so we moved him out to the back porch to see if he could stand on the carpet. He continued to shake and could not stand. He exhibited no other symptoms - face not scared, eyes were alert, no runny nose, no gastronomical distress.
I called ASPCA poison and she called the 24-hour vet. Fortunately neither one of them were panicked and responded pretty much identically when told we had applied Sentry product. Bath the dog with Dawn dish soap several times and observe. We bathed him multiple times, and he seemed to be relieved while being bathed. Over the course of the next few hours his shaking became less and he could move around. This stuff is not a bad product. It is a dangerous product and must be removed from the market!

This is the first time we have experienced any problems with ticks and fleas in our new home. Frontline wasn't available, and others weren't there in the sizes I needed. Now I know why, this product is terrible and needs to be recalled and off the shelf. It was expensive and I feel terrible that I put this on my fur babies. The 3 smaller ones didn't have much of a problem, but I noticed they were still itching some. My bigger one, woke up this morning barking and sounded like he was hurt, after it being put on him the night before around 9pm. He was very restless and then as the day progressed he was pacing, rubbing his back on everything, barking and just wouldn't sit still or be comforted. He was drinking and eating, but I knew he wasn't himself.
I had my son give him a bath to remove the medication from him, but it was still a Sentry product. I couldn't get Frontline for my dogs so I tried Sentry for small dogs. I put it on my Maltese and Mexican Hairless Chihuahua (she has hair on her haunches, head, and tail) and a few days later noticed that she was chewing on her tail and scratching continuously - especially the areas that don't have hair. The Maltese was scratching also. I gave them a second dose the next month thinking the apartment complex has a bad flea problem. It takes time to get rid of fleas. They scratched more. They kept me up at night with their scratching. I decided to give them a bath yesterday and the Maltese was loaded with fleas. I felt so bad. I immediately gave both a bath in Dawn and used a peppermint base all natural flea spray on them and they cut down the scratching 95%.
The chihuahua has sores from scratching and she is prone to them because of no hair but never several at one time - usually only 1 every couple of months if she is washing an area continuously. I will never use a Sentry product again. It did nothing for the fleas, caused my dogs to have sores and the Maltese has lost his hair on his front legs and behind from scratching so much. I will wash them every day in Dawn until they are well enough to go back on Frontline. I bought the product at Petsmart in Austin, Texas by Parmer Lane and IH 35. I still have the box for verification.

I bought this for my 6 month old border collie mix because I couldn't find the normal stuff I get. I usually get NexGard which works amazing and have tried other liquid kinds but he's gotten ticks whenever I used it (we like to go hiking a lot). But I thought I'd give something new a try thinking the worst that could happen is I'd have to remove another tick. I wished that would have happened.
Instead, he started whining and having tremors and couldn't stop scratching all over the floor. I gave him 50mg of Benedryl, washed him 3 times in dish soap and twice in his regular soap. He wasn't acting like himself at all. He wouldn't get up and wouldn't listen to me which never happens. He couldn't even walk right because it was bothering him so much. After I gave him a bath 5 times, I rubbed burn cream on his skin because it was bright red. Luckily, he would still eat and drink and I think the Benedryl knocked him out. Before he was so mad at me, he was pouting and wouldn't come near me. I don't know how this is still allowed to be sold. I feel like the worst person in the world though. I'm the type of person that always looks things up before getting them but this skipped my mind because I was in such a hurry. I put my own life before my dog's. I think it was already in his system. He's still having some symptoms so we will likely take him into the Vet. Why is this product on the market? These are not just our pets, they are part of our family, please someone help take this product off the shelves!!

I bought Sentry Pro Shampoo from this evening around 8:00 pm. It is now 5:50 am and my Shih Tzu is having what appears to be severe muscle spasms in his rear abdomen area. He yelps when touch in said areas and elsewhere on his body. If the symptoms don't subside, to the vet we go. Thanks PetSmart. Thanks Sentry.

Attention all PET OWNERS: DO NOT USE THIS PRODUCT: Sentry Pro XFT flea & tick!!! It can kill. If you applied Sentry Pro XFT to your pet, wash them immediately with Dawn Ultra original scent (blue). If you don't have any original or Dawn for that matter, any grease-fighting dishwashing liquid is better than nothing - Do not use powdered detergent! If you have someone with you, send them to get the following: Dawn blue Ultra grease fighter, cortizone cream, vitamin B12, 250 mcg, benadryl 25mg, & pill pocket treats.
After washing, rinse very well. The point is get this garbage off the dog completely, not diluting or spreading it. Do your best to avoid scrubbing in expansive motions, spreading the chemical to "untreated" areas - especially the face, eyes & mouth - this stuff needs to be handled like the hazardous toxin it is. You should wash the dog 3 or 4 times to make sure it's completely removed. The chemical in Sentry shrinks the skin which causes the extreme discomfort. We took our dog to a 24-hour vet hospital in Tinton Falls, "Redbank Animal Hospital" - dr. was good & they did follow up. They could not find any visual sign of skin irritation- but the symptoms spoke for themselves. They gave him a localized Benadryl injection. It worked for a few hours. We were told we could safely give him the over-the-counter human Benadryl 25 mg (Einstein is only 20 lbs).
There is dog & children's Benadryl, but I couldn't find any. I recommend you get the pill pocket treats because Einstein spit out the pill wrapped in meat, in cheese, & then a hollowed out marrow treat. We bought the dye-free gel caps, so I cut two open with a knife & spread it on a treat. We used 2 because it's a messy operation & most of the actual medicine sticks to the gel cap. He smelled & tasted the medicine, but his instincts made him eat it anyway. The yummy to yucky ratio was in yummy's favor. I called the vet back because he still couldn't sit still, which meant he couldn't sleep, which meant we couldn't sleep - 36 hrs!!! I asked if cortisone was safe because it worked wonders on my rash & the vet said yes, so we immediately massages some through the hair down to the skin where this garbage was applied. He loved it!!! whenever he would get restless we would apply more. it definitely helped him rest.
The B12 is for the kidneys. Loredana's friend is an experienced vet in Italy & told us to give him half of a 250 mcg tablet daily for a week. These flea & tick chemicals wreck kidneys. I don't think that's on the package. I know this all sounds like I have financial interest in these products & vitamins, I don't. I just know what works & I wish I had this information sooner. I searched for treatments online when he first showed seizures - yes seizures!!! All I found was what is wrong with Sentry & the horror stories it causes - no substantial remedy. I can barely believe the FDA allows this on the market & Petsmart, Amazon & others continue to sell it. We hope our run-in with this crap helps you & your critter pal. If you don't take my word for it, look at the manufacturer's own website. scroll down to the reviews. They didn't post my review, I guess it was my title.
BEWARE OF THIS TOXIC WASTE!!! We bought this garbage at Petsmart so we thought it was trustworthy. Wrong!!! Almost immediately our 20lb 1-1/2 year old Shih Tzu had diarrhea. He can't sit still, scratching panting, twitching. We washed him twice & very little improvement. The poor dog dug a hole in the yard & laid in it to try to cool his skin. Your dog is better off having fleas & ticks than putting it through the torture that this product induces. I feel like a fool. Contact Customer Service with questions or concerns. Applied this product to my lab. Within two hours she was whimpering and panting very hard. She kept bitting at herself and trying to scratch at the application site. She was acting restless and was unfocused and bumping into things. She was twitching her skin a lot like it bothered her horribly as well. Went online to read about this product and found hundred of reviews of how horrible and dangerous this product is. My sister and I immediately got Ebony in the tub and washed her down twice with dawn dish soap and then a third time with her normal shampoo.
She was better but stilled continued to whine and try at scratch at the application site. After giving her 75 MG of Benadryl she finally started to act more like herself. She is still twitching her skin as she is sleeping so I know she is still not 100% recovered. We will be bathing her again in the morning and re-dosing her with the Benadryl. This is a horrible product that is dangerous to dogs and should be taken off the market right away. Despite the thousands of complaints this company continues to sell a deadly product.

My older dog is just beside herself. And then I noticed her back skin was like having these tremors... I went online and see all these reviews about how bad dogs react to this product. Horrible!! Gave dogs a bath and but I think it's too late as the product has to just subside and run its course... I hope. Do not buy this product!! I bought it coz it was cheap and I couldn't find frontline at PetSmart. Bad bad choice in my part.

I thought maybe he'll be better the next day... he wasn't... I got online, read reviews, I went into panic mode, got him into a bath with Dawn, and gave him Benadryl. He got some relief, but yet another day went by and another bath, he started having tremors, and we went to the vet. She said that the residue was gone but it was already in his system and would have to run its course. She said to throw that junk in the trash.

This should be taken off the market. If you have dogs, please do NOT even consider using this product. I got it because it's supposed to protect against mosquitoes and mosquitoes are prevalent here in the Rio Grand Valley. We applied it to our dogs at 7:00 PM and about an hour after we put it on, our girl Sandy started being very rambunctious (I didn't think much about that because she's a rowdy girl) and that quickly turned into being very agitated, pacing, panting, itching, scratching, biting her tail area. She was so miserable. We gave her 2 baths and Benadryl and nothing helped. She couldn't lay down or stay still for more than a few seconds and she was back up biting and itching and pacing. She finally started to relax a little about 2:00 AM.
We took her to the vet this morning and they gave her a 10 day round of Prednisone and recommended bathing her with Dawn dish soap to help try to remove some of the product. She is still uncomfortable and not quite herself. Last night I went online looking for information about this stuff, Amazon has 21 reviews, 18 are negative. Their dogs had the same horrible experience. I wanted to post this warning so that it might save one of your babies from this poison.

Bought this because I was at Petco and they didn't have my usual brand. Applied it to my two corgis and within an hour they were both scratching like crazy, pacing, running around, panting... almost frantic. Finally got them to settle down for the night and the next day they seemed OK, but as evening set in, the symptoms all flared up again! Gave the worst one some Benadryl so that he could sleep and first thing yesterday morning we bathed them both 3 times with Dawn dish washing liquid and then once with their regular shampoo.
The panting, pacing and running around subsided, but they both seem to still be pretty itchy, though definitely improving. This is a horrible product and after checking multiple websites, all I could find are bad reviews... Not one single person reported a good experience! WHY IS THIS PRODUCT STILL ON THE MARKET?? Please don't use this product on your pets and please spread the word. A less healthy dog might not have a positive outcome.

I bought Sentry for my 3 cats this past Saturday at Petsmart. After putting it on the first cat he started licking a lot. I chalked it up to he knew something was on him and didn't like it. I put it on the other two and didn't really notice anything right away other than they seemed really tired the next day. Today I noticed my other male cat has a chemical burn where I put the product. As for my third cat, she passed away last night. She was 14 years old but seemed healthy until Sunday when she started peeing on the floors. By Tuesday morning she was just sleeping non stop. By Tuesday night she was dead. I'm not saying that the product killed her but after reading some other reviews and seeing the burn on my one cat it makes me wonder if this product had something to do with her death. I will never purchase this product again.

This is a terrible product to be allowed on the shelves. I bought this product because the store was out of my normal spot on treatment product. Put the treatment on per the directions, watched my 3 Border Collies for an hr and all was well and we went to bed. 2 hrs later one of them was barking very frantically and my husband went to check on them. One had thrown up her dinner and was panting very hard. The other two were foaming at the mouth and drooling all over their crates. I knew it had to be this product causing the issues so I immediately gave them baths to get the product off their skin. We got them cleaned up, calmed down and offered water. We left their doggie door open so they could go out for air if needed. 2 hrs later one of our Border Collies was barking frantically again. I went out to see what was going on, 2 were in the kennel area acting very nervous, the other outside but would not come when called.
I got a flashlight to go find him with terror in my heart afraid of what I was gonna find. He was out in the snow thrashing around having tremors so bad he couldn't bark, stand or walk. I carried him into his bed, wrapped him in a blanket, offered dry kibble and water which he ate. I laid with him for an hr and the tremors started to subside. In the morning everyone seemed better BUT we're very lethargic all day long, this is not normal for Border Collies. PLEASE DON'T use this product on you dog or cat it is a death warrant you don't want.

Applied product as directed. Within a few minutes my cat was running from me, rubbing on carpet and door frames and frantically trying to lick product from her upper back/nape. My husband and I grabbed washcloths and tried to wipe as much product as possible from her and noted, to our horror, that her skin was displaying signs of a chemical burn beneath her fur. She ran from us as we tried to clean more and irrigate the chemicals from her skin. We then called our vet who recommended that we give her a bath using Dawn dish soap as this would cut the oils and remove more product.
This poor animal, recently a stray had to be restrained and placed in a tub, terrified and mewing. As we saturated her fur and used the soap she calmed somewhat, seeming to comprehend that we were trying to help her (or perhaps the horrible burning pain dissipated somewhat). That night and the next day she was very lethargic, vomited twice and hid from us. We tried to hydrate her and encourage her to eat and in a few days she seemed to be slightly better - no longer hiding. It took a week for her to not run when we touched her back and by that time her back was scabbed and her fur falling out. My contact with the company was dismissive at best and wanted verification of the reaction. I told them to reference this site and get that POISON off the market. Clearly, they have not.

Let me start by saying, I have had dogs my entire life and I have never had a product do to my dogs and cats what this product did. The worse part is I didn't even put it on my cats. My cats got it on them after rubbing up against the dogs. On Jan. 2, I applied Sentry on all 8 of my dogs ranging from 3 lbs. to 85 lbs.. 2 hours after applying I noticed my dogs were scratching at the application site. I looked for irritation or blistering, and saw nothing, but they continued to scratch.
After several hours and showing no signs of stopping, I gave them all Benadryl for a possible allergic reaction. To my surprise by Sunday morning, 3 of my dogs cried when I touched them. None of them had slept much during the night. My husband had also mentioned, he had gotten some on his hand after petting one of the dogs and had a metal taste in his mouth and his eyes were very dry and itchy after washing his hands. That Sunday morning none of my dogs ate. Then I found myself giving them all baths to get it off of them and another dose of Benadryl. None of the dogs slept Sunday night.
During the night (Sunday night) one of my cats started crying. I got up to see what was wrong. I found my cat lying in the middle of the hallway shaking uncontrollably. So at 2am I was giving him Benadryl and bathing him. I felt terrible. On Monday I was calling my vet. My dogs were having (all 8) involuntarily shaking, jerking and crying. The Benadryl was helping, but it was they were all acting like they wanted to crawl out of their skin. My vet said the initial bath helped, but being a oil base product, they recommended I wash my dogs and cats in Dawn dish detergent to remove the oil. Monday night I found myself washing my dogs and cats (2) in Dawn. Within an hour of getting the oil off of their coat, they all started to turn around.
The neurological side effects of this product could of been so much worse. Several sleepless nights for me and my animals was a small price (make no mistake, they were all experiencing a lot of discomfort and involuntary shaking and jerking). This product could of killed them. I continued the Benadryl until Wednesday at my vets recommendation. Dawn saved the day. It was Wednesday when my dogs finally ate again. The smallest one scared me the most. I Do Not recommend this product to anyone!!! I will never use it again nor will I recommend it. No animal deserves to suffer like that. And by the way, it never killed a flea...

I purchased Sentry PRO XFT from Petco for my 25 lb Jack Russell mix. I figured it was like buying store-band Advil--what is the worse that could happen? We have used Frontline on our older dog and he never had a problem. I thought I was doing the responsible thing by putting flea and tick medicine on my dog, and I never thought it would endanger her life.
A few hours after applying the medicine, my dog started pacing, panting, and vigorously trying to lick and scratch the application spot. She even climbed under furniture to try and scratch her back. I figured that maybe the medicine was tingling a bit, so I checked the site and it looked as though her skin was fine. She grew visibly more agitated over the next few hours, and I knew something was wrong. About four hours after application, I wiped the spot down thoroughly with a wet cloth. I figured if it was off her skin, she would be fine.
I was wrong. She refused to go outside to use the bathroom or eat her favorite treats. I scratched her back for her but she continued to pace and whine. She did this through the ENTIRE night. Unable to get comfortable, she cried, paced and panted throughout the night. I did whatever I could to console her (thinking she was simply itchy) but she slept only fitfully.
At 6 AM, after a night of no sleep, I finally thought to google if any other pet owners had dogs react to this medication. I was HORRIFIED to find all of these reviews saying how this product had killed or injured their pets! In a panic (and with no vets in to work yet), I bathed her twice in Gain dish soap and gave her 25 mg of Benadryl as suggested by several people who had similar reactions in their dogs. I knew at this point that she was very sick because she hates water, and she just stood there and let me bathe her.
It has been a week since the incident and she has slowly been returning to normal. She has been/continues to be anxious, always wanting to be in my lap and have me pet/scratch her. She cries for my attention and tries to scratch herself on our furniture. This is not the normal behavior of my previously happy-go-lucky dog. In conclusion, this product is TOXIC. I'm furious that this medicine is still being sold by Petco and is hurting people's pets. I was able to save my dog, but some people were not so lucky. I am so upset that my baby had to go through this.

After 2 nights of extreme seizures (I didn't realize the first night what was going on--thought the cats were playing, then when my cat, Mr. Smootchie, finally re-appeared the next evening, it was non-stop seizures), I almost took him to the 24-hr. vet to put him down, but waited for my vet to open in the morning. My vet kept him all day (bathed him in 'Dawn', gave him IV fluids and Methocarbamol, which he thought may be an antidote to the poison chemical in this product). I brought him home last night and he cannot walk, and just sits in the corner and shakes. I don't think there is any hope.
Until 2 days ago when I applied this product, Mr Smootchie was the healthiest, most fun and affectionate, joyful cat I have ever known (and I'm more of a dog-lover). I had questions for them as to how long was reasonable to wait to see results before trying alternative methods/a shampoo, etc.
There is no warning or guidance whatsoever on the product to indicate that or that shampooing days after application is toxic to pets. Their customer service rep was abrasive and did not listen to questions just barked at me instructions. I'm glad I called but now after reading all the negative experiences feel very bad and regretful I purchased and used these products. Still not sure what to do if fleas are not managed but I know it won't be this product and I will get advice from a vet before purchasing anything from Petsmart. Why they continue to carry this line is beyond me. The reviews and harm it has caused should make it pulled from shelves.
