When I got my dog and took him to the vet the first time I had a $1500 bill which was expensive so I googled online and AKC Pet Insurance was more reasonably priced than the other pet insurance. It's very valuable. I've been with them for almost two years and so far, they were fair. But recently, I went up there to get his pills for flea, tick and heartworm and I don't know if it was not his time to get it but they paid $3 towards the pills, where I thought it would be paid off cause I have the extra plan for wellness. Other than that, they respond quickly and reimburse very fast. They have all different plans in all different places so it depends on what you get. They're very fast, accurate and efficient.

Having a pet insurance is very valuable. It's like having an insurance for yourself. I had a seven-year old Rottweiler mix with no health insurance who died of cancer and I had to pay everything out of pocket. I then started with AKC when it was still Pet Healthcare. After several years, I've heard other people getting other types of insurance which were cheaper than mine. But I have more coverage than theirs and I was very happy with the wellness, the medication and the surgery. I have AKC for 12 years now and my dog had several surgeries, illnesses, wellness checkups and she's on thyroid medicine and incontinence. They've been very kind.
However, I'm disappointed that I wasn't aware that I could have had more insurance for each special incident. And sometimes in getting the insurance coverage, one person will say one thing and one would say another. But overall, I've been very satisfied with AKC. When I call them, they've always answered my questions and they've been very good on the phone.

Poor customer experience. Submitted claim on 2/14/2017 and claim was finalized on 05/09/2017. Every time I would ask for clarification on what the policy covered, I would not get a straight answer. Disappointing that it had to take this long to be finalized and still have not been received benefits yet. I talked with Amy (customer service rep) and she could not tell me where or when I would receive, just that the EOB would be mailed out with the check. I talked to supervisor Adam on 5/2/2017 and he told me that I would receive a email of the EOB the next day and that did not happen; lack of communication. I would recommend looking at all your options before going with this company.
Hi Shaun,
Firstly, I hope your dog is feeling better. I’m sorry to hear that you were not satisfied with your customer service and claims experience. Occasionally claim processing time is delayed due to missing information. Once we receive all the necessary documents, our claims team works diligently to get those claims processed as quickly as possible. I’m sorry that information was not relayed to you in a follow up call as stated by our customer service team member. There was a lack of communication on our part and we apologize for that. During that time, your claim was actively being worked on.We strive for all of our customer interactions to be a positive one so I am sorry that we did not provide you with that. If you have any questions or would like more clarification on anything, please don’t hesitate to call.

My puppy was registered to the AKC. There was a 30-day trial of the pet insurance and then I just stuck with it. I've been a policyholder for a year now and so far, my experience with them has been good. However, they make up charges for things like if I go in for X-rays and put a $2 medical disposal fee that doesn’t exist which my hospital doesn’t do. That’s the only thing that they can improve on.

When I originally got my little guy, my Oreo, the pet store set up everything and they gave us all the AKC information. I called and we got the pet insurance. We had it for a good year but we didn't use it. So I called a month ago and asked to lower the payments a little bit. I spoke to Rose and she was such a sweetheart. She was able to lower the payments for us. In my experience, AKC has been reliable, friendly, understanding, and accommodating. The customer service has been really nice.

We had experienced having extensive bills with cancer treatments with the dog. So, I thought it might be prudent to get an insurance for our dogs. Now I've been with AKC for five years and I have two dogs with them. The insurance gives me peace of mind, and I have confidence in the AKC brand. I'd recommend them.

My puppy had a fractured abscessed tooth that was medically required to be removed. I submitted a claim with AKC Pet Insurance but apparently, the insurance won't pay for anything but adult teeth and not puppy teeth. They denied my claim even though it's a medically necessary procedure. They didn't even call me. They just sent an email that said, “It's denied and here is why.” They made some reference and it says, "Only adult K-9 teeth will be covered." So, I'm not very happy that I just prepaid for the entire year.
Hi Erin,
We hope that your little girl has made a full recovery from her fractured tooth. You're correct, in that our policies exclude medical intervention to puppy, or non-permanent, teeth even if medically necessary. According to the Terms and Conditions of your policy, we will cover "medically necessary extractions for permanent broken teeth due to an accident." We apologize if you had any misunderstanding about your coverage. It appears that you chose to receive your policy documents via email and you would have have received them, including your Terms and Conditions, shortly after enrolling.
Additionally, we are sorry that we are not able to personally call each of our policyholders regarding their claims. We would love to be able to provide that service, but it is not possible with the number of claims we process. If you have any questions or need more clarification, we would be more than happy to talk to you. Please don't hesitate to call and ask for the Customer Service Supervisor. Again, we hope that your puppy is back to feeling 100%.

I bought the dog in December and it came with 30 days of insurance. Before it lapsed, I talked with the AKC Pet Insurance people and they explained the programs they had and I made a decision then. Since I never had pet insurance, I was a novice. I didn't understand how it worked and it's difficult because I never did this before. But the young lady explained all of the different programs based on pricing, what it covered, what my deductible would be, and then I chose that fitted my needs. I took it out this time 'cause I paid all money for this dog to make sure that as it grows up it doesn't develop any problems that I can't afford to pay for. The person on the phone helped me put it into terms I could understand so that's what made it easy.

We have had a Shepherd many years before and never had insurance for that dog. Pets can have problems and they can be very expensive if there are serious problems so I would rather pay for pet insurance and make sure that our boys were covered and taken care of. AKC was the only one that was recommended so we went with them. Our old veterinarian was farther than the new veterinarian and there are several people on the street where I live that use the new veterinarian, so we changed. When the dogs had to be re-evaluated for the new vet, they immediately just sent off what they did to the insurance company and we were reimbursed for what was covered immediately.
I’m very happy to have the insurance and we were compensated very quickly after we had a problem or went to the vet. There have been some changes in the coverage and we don’t get compensated as much as before because there is a cut-off time. But I really find that it’s very valuable to have the AKC insurance. Another thing about AKC was that our dog thoroughbred like horses and I felt that they were a very important one to support and to have them support us. Overall, it was an excellent experience.

The cost of veterinary care is outrageous, so I looked into acquiring a pet insurance. Having a pet insurance is very valuable. I tell people all the time to get it. Whether they use it or not, it’s a great benefit because when our dog gets sick, it comes in handy. It gives peace of mind. Years ago, I’ve done a research, and AKC was really beautiful and it's the only one available. I trusted AKC so I went with their insurance on two of my Golden Retrievers at that time in the early 90’s.
Right now, I’ve got only one of my Goldens on AKC Pet Insurance. I have my other on another insurance program because I wanted to see the difference. I really love AKC Pet Insurance but I have some complaints. The last few times, it took them anywhere from two to three months to pay my claims. I can’t leave the AKC Pet Insurance because my dog has conditions that won’t allow him to pick up insurance anywhere else. I love that AKC pays better, but I’m really upset with how long they’re taking to pay and I don’t understand why the vet has to sign all the claim forms if there are the receipts that go in with it. It’s the only company I know of that require that.

I have a Leonberger puppy which is a huge breed of dog. My breeder gave me all the information and she suggested AKC. It was very easy to sign up for and it didn't take very long. I also had a lot of options on what I could do and the price was fair. I only called them to find out how I download the claim form and the gal answered back for me. So, I went online then they emailed me back the contract. I went ahead and printed it and put in the name of my dog. I've submitted a claim and it wasn't submitted right so my vet resubmitted it. What's really nice is that my vet sent the claim form in. So if I have to make any other claims, they have it already there at the vet. But, I haven't heard anything back from them.

Having a pet insurance is extremely valuable like any other insurance. AKC Pet Insurance's pricing was comparable to other insurance providers and it was easy to use their website. But they sent the wrong receipt, so I had to call Pet Partners and I got very good customer service on the phone. So far, everything has been as advertised.

When I registered my dog with AKC I was given a one-month free trial on their pet insurance. This is my second pet that I’ve had insurance for. My first dog that I had it with passed away and it did come in very handy. I noticed that AKC's policy is a little different. I had a larger deductible than the other policy that I had but that’s okay. I just feel like I have a very expensive dog and I have to have very good insurance. But signing up for this was very simple and easy. The people explained the policy and were wonderful to talk to. I was very happy with their service.

I have used AKC for a couple of claims and the only thing is that they're slow at it. Once you file a claim and sent it there, it takes about 30 days before you get any response. I think that's kind of long. Then, I had to file stuff out for my other vet, and I had to give AKC information to get stuff for the vet. That was the first time but the second time wasn't so bad.

I had gone online to register my new puppy with AKC because he's a purebred. That's how I learned about the insurance option. It's user-friendly as far as when I've had to take the puppy to the vet for regular routine care and services. It's willing to file the paperwork for us so I got reimbursed within a reasonable amount of time. It's been a very easy process so far. But when I tried to call once, they were short-staffed and the girl apologized. This was early on when I first took out the policy and I had a question. That would be the only thing. Maybe they can have the customer not having long wait times or if they can avoid it. Besides that, I would definitely recommend AKC Pet Insurance.

I got AKC Pet Insurance for my first dog, a Doberman, when she was young about three years ago. The insurance I have now doesn't really cover anything when they get sick. It is more of an accident insurance. I could pay more and get illnesses covered but that's a lot of money.

I've been a member of AKC Pet Insurance for nine years now. My first dog, who's no longer with us, had a very bad health problem and I would not have been able to treat her as I did had it not been for the insurance. It was expensive and I ended up with a ton of out-of-pocket expenses, but AKC paid a lot too. They defrayed enough that it made it doable for me and I am always grateful for that.
In my most recent experience, my girl dog that had some measles issues. She went for three visits to the vet and I got $200 and something back for the visits and the meds from AKC. It was pretty good. I'm sad, though, that they moved the dental to the higher paying policy, which is really expensive. My dogs have their dental every year. Having the dental paid for was one of the big draws for me. That's one of the things I do preventatively for my dogs and I miss having that be paid for. I wish that they would make that more accessible. Other than that, I've recommended AKC to many people.

The vet's office gave us a free month of the AKC, that's why we stayed with it. But every time I go to the vet, I send my forms in and nothing seemed to be covered. Like when my puppy had an ear infection and I thought that was covered. But I never seem to get back what I put into it, which is why I think they call it an insurance. So I'm not thrilled with the plan, and I don't think it paid for the neutering as well.
I don't get any information from them. I get no regular mailings from them. I don't even know when I'm paying my policy. I wasn't even sure if I still had the policy with them until recently. It bothers me that I have to go after them for information. They should send me a statement every month. I'll be happy if I got that. I was thinking of changing to my old company again. I had Pet's Health before with my other dog and they're comparably priced with AKC, but Pet's Health gave me more benefits than AKC did. Also, they were all kinds of warm and fuzzy and friendly whenever I call, and much more concerned for me and my dog than AKC seems to be.

My pets are registered in the AKC. I wanted them covered by insurance because bills can be very high and they qualify since they're full blooded. It's very clear in the contract we signed what they cover and what they don't. I submit the claim and either they pay it or don't pay it. In the last six months, AKC Pet Insurance has become extremely prompt in answering a claim submission which is a huge turnaround and a plus for them. They used to take forever.

When I bought my dog, it came with a 30-day complimentary insurance from AKC and I got the coverage from them after that. My daughter who works for a very large animal hospital was talking about Trupanion but I did not have complaints about AKC so I didn't change. I have never submitted a claim but when I called to find out about AKC's services, their reps answered all my questions. I called the other day to add my daughter as a second owner to the dog and they've been awesome. Her working at an animal hospital, we’re gonna pay half of the bill which is better for the insurance anyway. The coverage from AKC is also much better. The only difference is AKC just covers dogs while the other one covers the bunny that my daughter has. Everything is A+ with AKC.

I've been quite pleased with AKC Pet Insurance for my first dog and my current dog. We lost our first dog two months ago. She had to have a very serious surgery the first of September and it would have been a worse nightmare. The surgery was over $5,000 and that was covered. The limit of the policy we had was $5,000 on an incident, although I was able to increase that to $10,000 for our other dog, for the future. That was a lesson we learned along the way and the policy covers the dental.
However, the second dog had some ear issue when we first got the policy and AKC called that a precondition. That’s the only thing that I’m not thrilled about ‘cause whenever he has some ear infection, that’s not covered. Other than that, the insurance is of high quality and customer service has been good. I'm very satisfied with my experience with them.

The only problem that I had with the last time was with the animal ER that we were staying in. Close to a year ago we had our dog in the animal ER for a stomach issue. He had severe diarrhea that he was pooping straight blood. I took a claims form with me when he was checked in and the ER admitted him overnight. They had the form but the vet that was on didn’t fill it out and it took me two weeks to get them to do their part. Once they did their part, I was fine. We have used the policy three times and we’ve always gotten a check within two weeks of filing. We've never had any questions on what the vets have written down so it's been a very good experience.

I was just about to sign up for pet insurance with this company as my certificate from the shelter was expiring. As a matter of fact, I was going to call them this afternoon after work and set it up. Yet, I log into my email to find that they are not reimbursing anything out of a 327.00 bill. My kitten was showing signs of a UTI. This would qualify as an illness. She ended up having a specific type of worm that is not heartworm, roundworm, etc, but Capillaria. Capillaria affect the bladder and cause urination problems. The only treatment for Capillaria is NOT a regular wellness regimen like Revolution or Advantage or a basic dewormer. Let me tell you how rare Capillaria is...when the results came back, my vet had to actually find out what it was and had not had an animal test positive for it in over 14 years. It requires a prescription only medication that was prescribed after my vet spoke to an internal specialist. I had to pay for two fecal kits for testing.
My policy clearly says it covers lab tests which this is x 2. She was given three prescription meds in addition to Revolution (which is a prescription in itself.) Out of 327.00, they applied only 57 to the deductible and are claiming the rest was denied because it was wellness for the regular kind of worms you see that Revolution would aid with. Revolution does NOT, I repeat NOT work for Capillaria. I don't know if the free certificate is that you sign up, you feel safe, you then sign up and pay for policies before you have to submit a claim, so you don't know you won't be covered. But they lost a customer today and I will be expressing this to the tons of people I know who have pets and were interested in getting pet insurance after I told them I was seeing how it went.
We are sorry to hear that your cat has not been feeling well. According to our records your cat was treated for Giardia, Capillary, and round worms as well as a UTI. The UTI was eligible for coverage which was applied towards your deductible. However, Giardia, Capillary, and round worms are different forms of internal parasites, which are a specific exclusion in our terms and conditions making them ineligible for coverage. We hope that you understand that your claim was process according to the terms and conditions. We hope that your cat is feeling better. If you have any specific questions regarding this claim we will be happy answer them over the phone.

When I adopted my French Bulldog, I changed the registration and AKC offered me the opportunity to buy health insurance through them. I was a policyholder from the day that I registered her with me until a month ago when I canceled it. During the adoption, they told me she had seasonal allergies and it was on her papers. Also, she would need to have allergy medications ahead of time when she gets the vaccines from the vet. That was all that they had, no other information, and they took her to clinics in Manhattan. So they didn’t really have anything else and I had four pieces of paper to go with her.
So I took her to my vet and I gave them all the information I had. When she was due for vaccinations, they pretreated her with the allergy med first. And after one of the vaccinations in October, she had a little bit of Alopecia on one side. But I began to notice that it happened again right on the other side in her rear flank. Then she got all these spots all over her after the vaccination. I took her back to the vet and he was very concerned. He suggested I take her to a dermatologist which I did. I called AKC ahead of time and told them everything. I said it could be very costly and that I’m gonna do it no matter what. The skin testing alone would have been almost $1,000 and they said it's absolutely covered. They told me to bring the paperwork to them and they'll take care of sending it in, which they did.
Then I got a denial because her records say she had seasonal allergies and it was preexisting. I told them it was an allergy to an injection. I never ever board her. I have only gone away from her in the last year and a half twice overnight and a relative comes and stays with her at my house. I've never ever put her in a kennel. Then they even denied the one injection that I didn’t need to get her and which I won’t ever do again. They said I could appeal, but it’s not gonna do any good.
So I spent money for them faithfully every single month then I can’t even use it? I’m not a wealthy person and the $35 a month is hard. I was so hoping I would never need to use it and that the money can go to somebody else whose dog does. But then it came to that I needed it, and I was flat out denied after I even called and spoke with someone ahead of time. At least I had a $250 deductible which I had already met from the visit at the vet’s and the specialists were wonderful. It was the first time I ever had health insurance for a dog but it was not a good experience.
We are so sorry to hear that your dog is experiencing health issues. According to our records your dog was seen for recurrent hair loss. According to the medical records received during the investigation of your claim the recurrent hair loss had been ongoing since February 2015. Since your pets policy did not start until March 2015, the condition is pre-existing to coverage and unfortunately not eligible for coverage. We also reviewed the phone call you made with us asking if our policies covered allergies; at that time the customer service representative did explain that allergies are eligible if it was something new and not something that had been ongoing. As the customer service representative explained allergies can be eligible for coverage but like any illness or injury, our terms and conditions do not provide coverage if something is present prior to the start of the policy. We sincerely hope that Coco makes a quick recovery.

Then, I saw that if you register with the AKC, you get one free month of pet insurance. It sounded good and I did more research and looked at six different insurance companies for pets, and AKC was the best. They have the best build-your-own plan. They're the only one that had a $100 deductible when all the other plans out there were $200 or $250. You could set your limits for the year. A lot of the other ones didn’t offer that.

It's a very good idea to have a pet insurance. They’re covered if your animal was well when you took out the policy, and that’s reasonable. I had a cat quite a long time ago that developed a malignant tumor somewhere in her gastrointestinal system. She had surgery and survived it. I could not have afforded $3,500 to do that, but the insurance that I had at that time covered it. However, I wasn’t satisfied with the insurance and I thought that AKC would be a better choice. So far, I am satisfied and very pleased. When I take one of my four cats and two dogs to the vet, the vet will fax in the claim form for me and AKC gets in touch with me to tell me they got the form and are considering it and then I get a check. When I registered my puppy, I learned about AKC. They've been around for a while and I chose them for their name. My puppy insurance expired last September 19th so we rolled right over into the new thing. I'm very grateful to have her covered because she is my BFF.

Our dog was diagnosed with what the vet thought might have been puppy strangles. I submitted the claims to AKC insurance that were pertaining to the medications and the visits. She's perfectly fine and came through real well with her condition. But we’ve had very little refunded in terms of what we paid out.
We are so glad to hear that your puppy has made a full recovery and that we were able to help with some of the expenses incurred.

I chose AKC because of their pricing but I actually only had the policy for about a week. I started it in early September and then I had to end it. My dog wasn't diagnosed yet and she was sick but nobody knew what was wrong with her. Then I found out that she had a really bad form of cancer and the policy wasn’t gonna cover anything because it was a pre-existing condition and it was too late to use. But they were so nice about it, let me cancel over the phone, and didn’t keep me tied in any contract. I told the girl that I will definitely be getting it earlier for my next dog and go with the same company because they were so nice to me on the phone. It was a great experience overall.
We are so sorry to hear that your dog is not well. We are however, happy to hear that your experience was positive and helpful. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to the day that we can serve you again.

So I purchased AKC Pet Insurance because AKC is a trusted brand. Well, I submitted three claims for vet visits, one for a wellness checkup and two for my GS having worms. According to my policy documents, I have the CompanionPlus, DefenderPlus, ExamCare, and InheritedPlus, and my coverage covers De-Worming and Heartworm Prevention. But, since this was not diagnosed during the annual checkup... it's excluded. In fact, all my claims were denied... WHAT?!? So if I understand correctly, I pay almost $700 in premiums annually, and my dog can only get sick once a year around the annual checkup... This is a big disappointment and I'm currently looking at other Pet Insurers to avoid misleading/dishonest vendors like this.
We are so glad that you decided that pet insurance was an important investment in your pet’s future. We have looked into the claims in question and apologize that there has been some confusion. It appears that the claim submitted on your wellness visit was in fact denied by our system in error, which we spoke with you about yesterday. Our system shows that we have corrected this and that your check for this claim should be in the mail today. However, reimbursement was denied for the Pyoderma (skin infection) because the onset of the infection fell within the 5 day waiting period. Again we apologize for the confusion and we hope that your pet is on the road to recovery.

When I registered my dog I got an email which put me in an automatic trial period with AKC Pet Insurance. I haven't done insurance in the past but I purchased a very expensive dog and it did not breed. I used AKC when the dog had to have emergency surgery and once I sent the information for they massive bill, they responded quickly. I got a check within three weeks after the dog died in the operating room table.
Two weeks before the emergency happened, my dog has been favoring his shoulder and my vet couldn’t find anything wrong with it. So as recommended by a good friend of mine I took him to a different vet and my claim came after I lost him. They did call me and ask me a couple of questions, but I didn’t know if they’re going to reject the claim. They should let me know, like shoot an email, to inform me they got my claim and it’s in the works. But there’s not a lot of back and forth. They’re waiting to see if there’s any questions. There should be more dialogue for me to know my claim's status.
I thought doing the insurance was a good thing with the price. But going forward, I'll change what I purchased. It was $5,900 and it would’ve been more if the dog completed the surgery. I learned that next time I get insurance I have to read the copay portion. I will change my deductible of what I fit, and not go with a $5,000 per occurrence because surgery is obviously ungodly expensive depending on what kind. I will do more investigating when I ever decide to get another dog and see if I purchased the right thing for me.

Acquiring a pet insurance seemed like you could get walloped with a big charge. Like all insurances for human beings, we all have to pay our annual charge for coverage, and it looks like a lot at first glance. A lot of people aren’t able to come up with that amount to cover their pets. It’s another $500-600 a year bigger than you’re paying. But it worked out when I put forth my claim, and it’s very simple. My veterinary hospital put it in for me. I provided them with some quick information, and everything went really smoothly. My dog had a little growth removed this spring, and they came through for me. Then came my reimbursement check. I’m very happy with that.
However, I am a little disappointed because it doesn’t cover teeth cleaning and, like human beings, teeth cleaning contribute to overall health and well-being. I wanted to keep the charge for the year at a certain amount. What I have wouldn’t cover it. Yet with poodles, my vet tells me that particular breed often needs repeated teeth cleaning. It would be good if I could claim that. I wish there would be a provision with what I’m paying, if at least they would pay a percentage of it. How to make teeth cleaning more affordable and incorporate it into coverage without skyrocketing the amount of premium you would have to pay.
But, the way AKC Pet Insurance handles things are a lot better than any of the insurance companies for people’s health; it was fairly quick with them. I have a very positive experience to date. I hope it continues ‘cause my dog is getting up there in years and I hope he’s in good health. I also hope that I won’t have to be in a position to file a lot of claims. I would recommend them to someone else.

I have been an AKC Pet Insurance policy holder since November of 2013. I got a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon puppy then for the first time. They’re rare in the country but they’re not real common gun dogs, but now I have two. I got the male first in November and then we got the female a year ago. And when we file a claim with AKC, our experience has been easy. My vet sent off all the information and within several weeks, I got a check. Everything that I submitted was approved except for something standard that 0they don’t generally approve but happen to be on the receipt.
Having a pet insurance is one of those things I hope I’m wasting my money on. I don’t want to use it but I don’t want to be without it. Our dogs are like our kids so if something happens, I can do something that would help them. And if I had a bad experience, I would switch because my dogs are so young and they don’t have pre-existing conditions that I can easily switch. So far, my experience was great and if ever I would need it for something major, I hope that it’s the same experience. The only thing that concerns me about pet insurance in general is that there are so many caveats of what they may or may not cover and I don’t ever want to find out what they don’t cover.

When my pets were young, the cost of treatment was pretty minimal. But as they get older, a lot of things can happen and sometimes treatments are very expensive. We had a dog at North Carolina State for seven weeks and that was very expensive and we didn’t have an insurance. So that’s when we really thought, we “locked the barn door and left the horses out.” And so I got a pet insurance, but I wasn’t satisfied with it because I didn't vaccinate my dogs, I titer them. And AKC Pet Insurance covers titering.
I've been with them for a long time now. I started with the puppy we have and she’s three years old so it’s in that vicinity that I'm a policyholder. It’s always been easy with them. The forms are pretty straightforward and I usually have those filled out for my vet and all he has to do is write in what he did and sign it. That saves him time and it's not very complicated.
I thought that what they pay for some of the things is pretty low. I pay $300 for a titer and they pay me back 20-some dollars. Also, one of the things I really appreciate is that all my dogs have been therapy dogs and they passed the Canine Good Citizen Test. And when that happens, they reduce our monthly payment which is a great help. That makes up for a lot of things so I like that part of their policy. It's a good experience and I would recommend them to a friend.

My dog is AKC registered and there's a little newsletter that came out mentioning the health insurance policy. I ran a couple of different bids through some other companies and I was happy with the deductible and the premium that the AKC policy offered so I got it. Getting a pet health insurance policy is a little price to pay to protect a big investment. I'm buying peace of mind at $60 a month and so the pet health policy is well worth having. I pay a little bit each month and when times are tight, it's easy to look at that and think of that expense that you could drop. However, we know how expensive it is when our dog actually has something serious, and that just adds to the stress of it.

When my dog broke his leg when he was a little puppy nine years ago, AKC gave me a $500 reimbursement even if I haven't even gotten a policy yet. It was so impressive that I registered with them for pet insurance. I was pleased with it for many years but now I'm very unhappy with it. They've changed their policy carrier which changed the policy tremendously. With Well Care before, it includes anything if he was sick plus vaccinations and Advantix. Initially, $125 has to be met before one gets anything and then for years it paid 80%. With this new carrier, I still get the same policy but only covers a certain amount of money for things like my dog's Advantix. It's not covering very much at all.
I've let them know about this. I also opted for only another year because it's too late to go with a different policy at this point that my dog's nine and a half years old. My vet told me of a policy that his clients are happy with, which is not AKC. If I was to get another dog, I'd certainly research policies before I opt to go with AKC again. Moreover, I don't even know if I'd get a policy again since it's just cost - there's got to be a big problem to really use pet insurance. A friend of mine who also owns a Vizsla had $4,000 in vet bills within a couple of weeks, but the dog died anyway. I thought in that situation, it might be worse having pet insurance. Nevertheless, I'd still recommend this company.

Hence, I've been a policyholder with them since November. Having pet insurance is worth it for all of my babies.
Then sadly enough my dog had damaged her ulna plate. The bone stopped growing and so she had to go and have a major surgery. Granted they may only cover up to $2,000 per surgery per leg, at least that’s that and they didn’t give me a hard time at all. I brought all the information to the vet, they filled it out, and they sent the medical records. AKC emailed me a check within three weeks and they were really good. It was convenient and there was no hassle, no BS, and so I enjoyed. I definitely would recommend them and I have already recommended them to other people. It sounded good to me so I went with them. It was wonderful and it’s been a good experience so far. I've been a policyholder for two months now. My dog recently had an operation and it went smoothly. I had questions and the person on the phone was able to answer them all and everything went fine. He may still be a puppy, but in the long run, I’m sure we’ll be happy that we have pet insurance.

I got papers from where I got a puppy and AKC insurance was the option to enroll. I didn’t research any other providers and went by the AKC reputation. It’s my first dog and I have no previous experience with insurance, so I said why not try. I've been with AKC for two months and so far it's a good experience. I got a month to the end of next term. I filed a claim with the initial one-month insurance and the process was easy. I got a check a few days ago.

AKC Pet Insurance came with a free trial that's why I signed up. I started the insurance around the end of April and we rehomed Toby in mid-May. We thought we could make it work, but he and the cat never got along and he got to be so strong that my wife couldn’t attend to him during the day while I work. We haven't filled the paperwork to change the registration yet.
I have a hard time justifying the expense of getting a pet insurance. I equate it to the vision insurance that I used to carry at work. By the time I added up my premiums relative to what I got back, I was better off self-insured. For catastrophic incidents, accident, illness things, I could see where the insurance would certainly help with out-of-pocket expenses. But for routine care, there were more exclusions than benefits for wellness. For that reason, I don’t see a lot of merit benefit. It makes sense if somebody has an animal that has the propensity to get sick, but it’s not for everybody. A $500 deductible is a pretty steep price when the average vet bill is $100. We have not filed a claim but we took the puppy to the vet for what we thought was going to be his fourth week shots. We weren’t allowed to do that because he had an ear infection. So for that series of expenses, I will be filing a claim.

I had a free month with AKC Pet Insurance initially when I got my puppy, and then I rolled it over into a plan which was very easy. Having an insurance for my pet was valuable because we'd have that peace of mind to not have to dole out a whole lot of money if in case something major came up and I know how expensive that can be. However, I just canceled it yesterday after having it for a month because my puppy was sick and needed to be put down. It was horrible. He was having seizures and they kept getting worse even on phenobarbital. I'm a veterinarian and it was the saddest thing in the world. I had submitted a claim for his emergency room visit ever since he started having seizures and AKC Pet Insurance paid me promptly. It was processed very well.

I have had dogs since I was 24 years old and I'm 67 now. I have never had pet insurance. Some of my dogs would get very sick and I still never got pet insurance because you never know what's going to hit them. I had a lot of expense when Athena, my seven year old dog, died. I got a new puppy and ended up having AKC insurance through a friend who knew about them. Getting an insurance when the pets are young is important and a good time because I looked into pet insurances a number of times but my dogs were too old. The price goes up as they get older.
I talked to the person at Pet Partners and I was very favorably impressed with the comprehensive services even if they were a little expensive at that time. But it's more than what you pay for it. Then I added the additional wellness feature which is not included, or they may not have it at all, in the normal amount of one of the big insurances that I was looking at. With AKC, it was $43.95 without wellness and $59.95 with wellness. I shopped around before I made the selection and AKC has been a good choice. It has better, more comprehensive services whereas the others, if you read the fine print, they are limited on certain things.
The new puppy had a lot of expenses and the insurance has really paid for a lot like labwork, microchip, neutering and wellness shots. I've been pleasantly surprised. I send in a claim and they pay it very promptly. Sometimes there's something that will be excluded, which I understand, but they have done an excellent job. They also seem to have very available hours and I could call and email them, which is something that's impressive to me.

It's still good because I used to spend $200 to the vet and still come back. Somebody told me they have a better insurance but my dog is already old and I don’t wanna change right now.

We love AKC Pet Insurance. It was highly recommended to us by my sister-in-law who was the breeder of Bernese Mountain dogs and from whom we got our dog from. Our dog is the kind that eats grass if she has to throw up. In December, she had eaten about three feet of the small bathroom rug and she had to have surgery. We took her to the emergency vet on a Friday night. We were concerned that there was going to be a blockage and the vet eventually found that she has some fluid in her lungs and her heart was erratic. So we had to go to another fancier emergency vet in West Palm Beach. They were able to get her stabilized.
She was able to come home and eventually, the rug passed through her system. Nevertheless, the latter emergency vet referred her to a neurocardiologist vet. So she's been under the care of the cardiologist and on medication. She just had check up the other day - her heart is doing well and she looks good. She's put weight back in and acts like a puppy even though she's ten and a half.
This most recent experience of ours is a case of prescription refill and we have no problems with the insurance. AKC pays for everything they allow and they do it promptly as well. I would recommend AKC to anybody. I just did to a man I sat with at the neurocardiologist's office who had a dog that's been rescued from Turkey. I also recommended them to someone who has a puppy that's only a few weeks old. Even if the premium increased from about $800 to $2,000, it's worth it.
We are so glad to hear that your pet is doing well. We thank you for your recommendations and hope that your pet continues to do well.

Since I had a Doberman before who had $1800 worth of surgery, I decided getting an insurance was a good idea. I heard some people saying that they weren't satisfied with the service that they got. I figured with AKC, if I had any complaints, I can get in touch with them and that should take care of things. I send everything in and they send me a check. I've been with them for at least 10 years and so far, every time I've had to use the insurance, they paid very well. They have paid twice to one of my dogs quite a bit. Being retired, that's important. Paying a little bit each month is an improvement to having suddenly a whopping bill of maybe over a thousand dollars. Once I ended up taking one of my dogs, Lexi, to emergency on a Sunday and it's $500 in the door. By the time we were through, it was a whopping bill all the way around and AKC paid at least $900 of it.
Recently, they got in touch with me because they were trying to get the monthly payment. Someone had gotten my credit card number and we had to cancel the card so I couldn't deal with the things that are automatic every month. I couldn't call anybody until I had the new number. Whoever I talked to was very helpful and understanding, and got it all straightened out.

Jessie is 13 years old now and AKC has come through pretty well for me when she got injured and even when she got cancer. She also ate rocks twice. It's better than our own health insurance because it’s cheaper and they cover more stuff. It’s a little bit expensive but every time I’ve sent stuff in, there’s not a question about it. When we have the forms sent in, they send me a confirmation that they received something and that they’ll check it out. And then within a week or two, I get a check to reimburse me.
Having a pet insurance is very valuable, especially when you have a sporting dog. Now, I have two more Chesapeake Bay retriever puppies that are four months old and are susceptible to getting injured. Both of them are also insured. Right now we have something outstanding because I sent in all of Jessie’s wellness and checkup bills from last year but I haven’t heard anything yet. But everything is very good and I'm satisfied. I live in a mountain area and I had talked to some other rep because I had a question, and he said that you do all the claim filing on your own so it doesn’t matter if a vet takes that insurance or not. My brother and I were talking about pet insurance yesterday and I told him to go and check out AKC because from what I’ve seen, the premiums look reasonable compared to what he was talking about. My dog is young but I already see the value in getting an insurance policy for my pet, as something could happen and the pet insurance would help offset it. It just seemed like a smart thing to do. AKC Pet Insurance's branding is appealing and gives the idea that the company is reputable so I signed up.
The people at AKC have been nice to work with. I had to call them a couple of times though. It seems a little cumbersome and I don't know if there's any other way around it... For example, I found out there was something the vet had not filed. It wasn't the insurance company's fault but it's difficult trying to keep up with all of the stuff. I don't want to miss out on anything that could be filed. Then there's no communication from AKC saying, "Hey, I received this." I was a little surprised at the lack of communication from them. However, they don't tell you when you have insurance above and beyond what you need, which I think is bad that I as insured need to call and try and work that out with them. And the rates had gotten so ridiculous and until I did a reassessment with them they weren't going to say anything to me and I don't think that's right. And the fact that if I got the same dog in another state it would cost me half the money is bothersome.

At the end of November, they said they had not heard from my vet, so I called the vet and she said, "Oops! I'm sorry, my bad." She then said she sent the information to them. I have yet to hear back on the status of the claim. I also had a claim for Loki, a Doberman, for bloat. But his took a while to get through the system, but not as long as the other one. They haven't let me know anything and I keep thinking, "Well eventually they will let me know."
Having a pet insurance is very valuable. I've had Loki for four years, I paid insurance on him and I've only had one claim. But still, it's a good insurance in case of emergency, because there's nothing that pays the doctors, the vet, bills on animals unless you have pet insurance. Fortunately, she didn’t need to have surgery as they were able to induce getting rid of them. It happened twice within a period of two months and has now stopped. But they said that they only cover it once in a year.
It’s rather arbitrary. It’s probably on the fine print of the policy. But when you think about it, it’s like if you break your leg and it’s covered by your medical insurance, then you break your other leg, for example, they don’t come back and say, “oh, you’re only allowed to break your leg once in a year.” I know they’re probably trying to juggle what’s covered and what happens versus having the premiums which are high enough, so I think I understand the rationale, but it still seems somewhat odd. Most of the time, if something happens, like infections, she has to have antibiotics and stuff, it gets taken care of. There are forms and stuff for her. They’re kind of a pain to have to take, but of course you have to have the vet sign them.
There was one instance when, for some reason, the vet had neglected to write the explanation in the box and then the whole thing got rejected and we had to go back. But they might as well say, “we need to have the vet write something other than just stamp it.” But anyway, I’ll say they’re generally satisfactory, a little weak on some specifics, policy not very helpful, but it works out. We’ve been with them for 11 years now.

I've been an AKC policyholder for a year and a half but they only cover accidents, not medication and visits. They also said they would cover MRI, but they didn't cover it at all. So far, the insurance is not worth it since I haven’t had a situation where it’s been beneficial or worthwhile, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to be of any help.
Thank you for bringing forward your concerns. We are looking into the processing of your claim. We apologize for the inconvenience and will be in touch soon with an update.

Our dog was registered through AKC. When we got it, it came with a trial of the AKC Pet Insurance. After we had the trial period for three months, we decided to continue it. It's been four months now. Their representatives were very quick and efficient in getting our questions answered and in picking a plan that worked for us. Also, our most recent experience with AKC was easy and helpful. We're overall pleased with them.
Thank you for your positive feedback. We are very happy that you decided to continue with our insurance. Best wishes to you and your new dog!

My experience with AKC Pet Insurance wasn't the greatest of all experiences for the money, and the coverage and the way it was somewhat deceptive of the amount of coverage that's available. It was not pleasant. And when my girlfriend Linda decided to question the representative about it, she was told in a very smart aleck tone, "That's why you should read it all and shop", or "That's why you should shop and compare everything". Her tone, her behavior, and what she did, were completely uncalled for. And at that point, we terminated the insurance because of such poor customer service. First, we couldn't get good answers. When we finally get an answer, the overall attitude of it was very poor in my experience.

We adopted a boxer and she came with a free month's worth of insurance with AKC. We're happy with the insurance. Every time we file a claim, within a week or two they'd send out a letter saying they're reviewing our claim. And then within a month, we usually get a yay or nay on the policy claim. I like that they send out an email to say that payment is due. They're very upfront and the way they pay out a claim so quickly is really something. We’ve got a policy where we only are responsible for 10% after deductible and they honor it. Great customer service. I recommended them to someone I saw the other day.

I was pleased with the customer service provided from the initial phone call and sending me a copy of the claims form. The only thing that caught me off guard is that I was under the impression from the initial phone call that I was getting all this stuff, and then at the very end of the spiel it's more sales speech. I received the price and it was just a little on the high side. I haven't used AKC yet. My pet had some kind of parasite in her and the pet shop that she was purchased from is taking care of the expenses. But the vaccines are coming up and I'm pretty sure it's covered.
Welcome to the family! We are glad we could give you the coverage you were looking for.

AKC is excellent. Their insurance for my dogs seemed to cover more items for the price. I've had some of the expensive things and they covered the majority of it. Even with the debts, the claim forms, and everything, they’re still very quick getting the reimburse claim process. I would highly recommend everyone to have insurance with AKC.
We thank you for your excellent recommendation. Please let us know should you need any assistance with future claims.

AKC has been excellent. They processed our claims well and we haven’t had any issues with processing claims. There is a limit on what they will pay for though because once your pet gets identified with an issue or a problem, if it becomes chronic, they have a maximum amount that they will pay. And that was a limitation that we weren’t particularly aware of but probably if we had read everything, we would have known it. So when we found out our dog has a tendency for bladder stones, once we ran up the bill enough, that was it. They wouldn’t pay anymore. But they’ve been good particularly about paying though they cover quite a bit. We’ve been pleased and it’s saved us a lot of money on our pet. I’d recommend them to a friend.

I have been a policyholder with AKC for about a year and it has been a wonderful and great experience with them. I didn't know anything about pet insurance but it seemed like a good idea. I've been a dog owner for about 15 years, and I know that one catastrophic illness is expensive. I've had very sick animals that have had to have surgery and didn't even make it. I thought I'd do things right this time and I don't think I'll ever not have a pet insurance for my animals.
My puppy which will be a year old in December has been well and had no problems. I've only filed one claim and what I did was held on to all my expenses for the visits, immunizations, heartworms, pills, etc. then filed for the claim. I made copies of my expenses, mailed them in, and within three weeks they sent me a substantial check. They paid me back for a whole lot of those so I was quite pleased. It couldn't have been more simple. In fact it was simpler than it is to file claims on my own insurance. Everyone at AKC was courteous and helpful.
Thank you for your kind feedback. We are so happy to hear that your puppy has been well. Please let us know if you have any questions regarding your policy in the future. We would be more than happy to help.

I can tell there was a change in carrier with AKC Pet Insurance somewhere along the line. There was a definite difference in them speaking as a 37-year claims person from the insurance industry. There seemed to me to be a bit of a difference in claims philosophy, in terms of having a tighter look at things than there was before. But I'm overall happy and satisfied, and there's no question about that. I've always been glad I have the insurance but I'm sure for many people, it's disconcerting to be told that a surgery was paid for by mistake and that it should not have been paid for because the dog had bladder stone. If I understood correctly, that's a condition that wouldn't be paid for a schnauzer. I have an issue with that because not all schnauzers have that and different dogs have different conditions.
I paid for prescription myself without submitting them because the vet prescribed it but it seemed too difficult to get an explanation through to somebody and to understand it. Everything became much more difficult. Maybe the other folks have too much the other way because I get that too. I get both sides of it in insurance that somebody has got to be paying attention to these things. But from the standpoint of responsiveness and timeliness, I have no issues because AKC has been awesome. They aren't perfect but I recommend them to friends. I've told many dog owners and all my friends that if they are going to buy pet insurance, they need to go with AKC. My sister and brother-in-law even had insurance with two other pet insurance and through my experience, they moved to AKC.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We do our best to provide the best healthcare at the best price possible. Thank you so much for your recommendations.

Rep said there is a 100.00 deductible and they did not pay for exam. Bill was only around a 140.00 they paid nothing. Glad that I didn't sign up for policy was going to see what they did, took a long time, the claims have to be reviewed. This was pet partners thru AKC.

It's been 7 years that I've been getting AKC Insurance for my pets. AKC has always been highly regarded by me because I get dogs that are recommended by the AKC and are raised strictly AKC. After my Husky, Kayla, had two knees done, had diabetes, and also had cataracts which we had to pay for out of our pockets because we didn't have insurance, I said no more having dogs without insurance because they're just as important as people. I don't want to be in a situation where I don't have the money and say they can't have treatment. So we go for the best. AKC did some switching wherein they made it a little cheaper on the wellness plan but they left out the teeth cleaning and other things. So I went back on the highest plan so that those things could be covered.
Filing a claim is hard and time consuming. I have to get a copy of the receipt, fill out a claim form, send that to the vet for him to fill out a claim and then they have to send it in. It's a little time consuming but in the end, it's worth it. They pay eighty percent of what's charged for almost everything. I like the confidence I get. Like today, we took Teddy. He's eight now and had insurance since the beginning. He had it going because he was limping - getting older and has arthritis. I want to be able to not be afraid to take the dogs in to get care because they are members of our family and I’ve had dogs all my life. I recommend AKC Insurance. It's been very good except when I got about 15 policies in the mail when there was a computer glitch, but they straightened it out.
Thank you for being a long standing customer. We are so glad that we are able to give you the confidence and peace of mind you deserve as a dedicated pet owner. Thank you so much for your recommendation.

AKC sounded good and it's been good ever since. They also offered a month free and those were the reasons why we chose them. We had two dogs for 16 years, never had insurance but didn't cost so much at the vet. But our dog, Weddy, has been a problem and AKC has really helped out. Never again go without pet insurance. My experience with them for the past 2 years is nothing but wonderful. We never looked at another one. I like the constant communication and they are always checking with us either with a note or by phone. When I filed a claim, the process was painless. I gave my veterinary office a copy of the claims form, she fills it out and faxes it. They know what's going on with us and we know what's going on with them. It's been fun.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We are so glad we were able to help out with Weddy's medical care needs. Your recommendation is much appreciated.

I have a German shepherd and they are known to have physical issues from time to time so I figured it was best to be covered. I've had AKC insurance for three years. I sent a claim recently but I haven't heard anything back yet. But they did promptly reply that they were working on it. A little over a year ago, I submitted a claim which ended up where I wasn't covered for the incident. It's a little disappointing, but it is what it is. But in general, having a pet insurance is valuable.

We registered our pets with AKC because they offered a free 30-day trial. After the time expired, we stopped being a policy holder. We had a situation with our first dog, Mira, where we did put in a claim, but they didn't pay. The other dog, Macy, we have not had any claims. I wasn't happy that they didn't pay the claim. I think they should have paid part of the claim anyway. I am dissatisfied with my experience.
We understand your frustration and we have looked into the claim in question for your first dog. It appears that there was an amount covered by your 30-day trial; however this did go towards the $100 deductible that is standard on all 30-day certificate policies. If you would like to discuss this in more detail we would be happy to answer any questions you may have. Please contact our customer care team at 1-866-725-2747. We appreciate your business and wish you all the best.

The breeder that I got the dog from told me about the AKC Pet Insurance. My dog is registered with AKC and since I like to keep everything in one place, I got the insurance and have been a policy holder for about 14 months. I called and asked about reimbursements for medication and the lady sent me a form to complete. I need to fill in the blanks and mail it back to them so I can be reimbursed some expenses I've had this past year, but I haven't gotten to that yet. Everybody there cooperates nicely. So far, so good.
