I had gone online to register my new puppy with AKC because he's a purebred. That's how I learned about the insurance option. It's user-friendly as far as when I've had to take the puppy to the vet for regular routine care and services. It's willing to file the paperwork for us so I got reimbursed within a reasonable amount of time. It's been a very easy process so far. But when I tried to call once, they were short-staffed and the girl apologized. This was early on when I first took out the policy and I had a question. That would be the only thing. Maybe they can have the customer not having long wait times or if they can avoid it. Besides that, I would definitely recommend AKC Pet Insurance.

I got AKC Pet Insurance for my first dog, a Doberman, when she was young about three years ago. The insurance I have now doesn't really cover anything when they get sick. It is more of an accident insurance. I could pay more and get illnesses covered but that's a lot of money.

I've been a member of AKC Pet Insurance for nine years now. My first dog, who's no longer with us, had a very bad health problem and I would not have been able to treat her as I did had it not been for the insurance. It was expensive and I ended up with a ton of out-of-pocket expenses, but AKC paid a lot too. They defrayed enough that it made it doable for me and I am always grateful for that.
In my most recent experience, my girl dog that had some measles issues. She went for three visits to the vet and I got $200 and something back for the visits and the meds from AKC. It was pretty good. I'm sad, though, that they moved the dental to the higher paying policy, which is really expensive. My dogs have their dental every year. Having the dental paid for was one of the big draws for me. That's one of the things I do preventatively for my dogs and I miss having that be paid for. I wish that they would make that more accessible. Other than that, I've recommended AKC to many people.

The vet's office gave us a free month of the AKC, that's why we stayed with it. But every time I go to the vet, I send my forms in and nothing seemed to be covered. Like when my puppy had an ear infection and I thought that was covered. But I never seem to get back what I put into it, which is why I think they call it an insurance. So I'm not thrilled with the plan, and I don't think it paid for the neutering as well.
I don't get any information from them. I get no regular mailings from them. I don't even know when I'm paying my policy. I wasn't even sure if I still had the policy with them until recently. It bothers me that I have to go after them for information. They should send me a statement every month. I'll be happy if I got that. I was thinking of changing to my old company again. I had Pet's Health before with my other dog and they're comparably priced with AKC, but Pet's Health gave me more benefits than AKC did. Also, they were all kinds of warm and fuzzy and friendly whenever I call, and much more concerned for me and my dog than AKC seems to be.

My pets are registered in the AKC. I wanted them covered by insurance because bills can be very high and they qualify since they're full blooded. It's very clear in the contract we signed what they cover and what they don't. I submit the claim and either they pay it or don't pay it. In the last six months, AKC Pet Insurance has become extremely prompt in answering a claim submission which is a huge turnaround and a plus for them. They used to take forever.

When I bought my dog, it came with a 30-day complimentary insurance from AKC and I got the coverage from them after that. My daughter who works for a very large animal hospital was talking about Trupanion but I did not have complaints about AKC so I didn't change. I have never submitted a claim but when I called to find out about AKC's services, their reps answered all my questions. I called the other day to add my daughter as a second owner to the dog and they've been awesome. Her working at an animal hospital, we’re gonna pay half of the bill which is better for the insurance anyway. The coverage from AKC is also much better. The only difference is AKC just covers dogs while the other one covers the bunny that my daughter has. Everything is A+ with AKC.

I've been a policyholder with AKC Pet Insurance for two years. Overall, it's been good with them. It's very valuable to have pet insurance. Recently, my credit card was blocked and I had to give AKC a new credit card. My dog has allergies and I don’t know if he’s capable of being reimbursed for that. But I probably won't use the insurance unless my dog has a catastrophic problem, like cancer.

AKC Pet Insurance was part of the package when we got the puppy. I just had to apply it. It's been good and easy with AKC. If I needed additional documentation, they went back to the vet. If the vet wasn't cooperating, then we would intervene and push the vet to give to AKC the information they needed. It was very clear and specific on how everything worked. It’s been an outstanding experience with them.

I've been quite pleased with AKC Pet Insurance for my first dog and my current dog. We lost our first dog two months ago. She had to have a very serious surgery the first of September and it would have been a worse nightmare. The surgery was over $5,000 and that was covered. The limit of the policy we had was $5,000 on an incident, although I was able to increase that to $10,000 for our other dog, for the future. That was a lesson we learned along the way and the policy covers the dental.
However, the second dog had some ear issue when we first got the policy and AKC called that a precondition. That’s the only thing that I’m not thrilled about ‘cause whenever he has some ear infection, that’s not covered. Other than that, the insurance is of high quality and customer service has been good. I'm very satisfied with my experience with them.

We adopted our dog through Lab Rescue, and he came with a three-month policy from AKC. We’ve filed a couple of claims and we’ve always been very satisfied. The only problem that I had with the last time was with the animal ER that we were staying in. Close to a year ago we had our dog in the animal ER for a stomach issue. He had severe diarrhea that he was pooping straight blood. I took a claims form with me when he was checked in and the ER admitted him overnight. They had the form but the vet that was on didn’t fill it out and it took me two weeks to get them to do their part. Once they did their part, I was fine. We have used the policy three times and we’ve always gotten a check within two weeks of filing. We've never had any questions on what the vets have written down so it's been a very good experience.

I purchased the pet insurance from AKC and it was easy to contact them either over the phone or online. They're very friendly and helpful as well.

Also, my daughter has dogs and she's the one that insisted I had to have it. They had more options than other providers, too. The experience was wonderful. I printed the form on the internet, took it to my vet, AKC completed the process within a matter of weeks, then I was reimbursed. They are a great insurance company and I'd recommend them to anyone.

I was just about to sign up for pet insurance with this company as my certificate from the shelter was expiring. As a matter of fact, I was going to call them this afternoon after work and set it up. Yet, I log into my email to find that they are not reimbursing anything out of a 327.00 bill. My kitten was showing signs of a UTI. This would qualify as an illness. She ended up having a specific type of worm that is not heartworm, roundworm, etc, but Capillaria. Capillaria affect the bladder and cause urination problems. The only treatment for Capillaria is NOT a regular wellness regimen like Revolution or Advantage or a basic dewormer. Let me tell you how rare Capillaria is...when the results came back, my vet had to actually find out what it was and had not had an animal test positive for it in over 14 years. It requires a prescription only medication that was prescribed after my vet spoke to an internal specialist. I had to pay for two fecal kits for testing.
My policy clearly says it covers lab tests which this is x 2. She was given three prescription meds in addition to Revolution (which is a prescription in itself.) Out of 327.00, they applied only 57 to the deductible and are claiming the rest was denied because it was wellness for the regular kind of worms you see that Revolution would aid with. Revolution does NOT, I repeat NOT work for Capillaria. I don't know if the free certificate is that you sign up, you feel safe, you then sign up and pay for policies before you have to submit a claim, so you don't know you won't be covered. But they lost a customer today and I will be expressing this to the tons of people I know who have pets and were interested in getting pet insurance after I told them I was seeing how it went.
We are sorry to hear that your cat has not been feeling well. According to our records your cat was treated for Giardia, Capillary, and round worms as well as a UTI. The UTI was eligible for coverage which was applied towards your deductible. However, Giardia, Capillary, and round worms are different forms of internal parasites, which are a specific exclusion in our terms and conditions making them ineligible for coverage. We hope that you understand that your claim was process according to the terms and conditions. We hope that your cat is feeling better. If you have any specific questions regarding this claim we will be happy answer them over the phone.

When I adopted my French Bulldog, I changed the registration and AKC offered me the opportunity to buy health insurance through them. I was a policyholder from the day that I registered her with me until a month ago when I canceled it. During the adoption, they told me she had seasonal allergies and it was on her papers. Also, she would need to have allergy medications ahead of time when she gets the vaccines from the vet. That was all that they had, no other information, and they took her to clinics in Manhattan. So they didn’t really have anything else and I had four pieces of paper to go with her.
So I took her to my vet and I gave them all the information I had. When she was due for vaccinations, they pretreated her with the allergy med first. And after one of the vaccinations in October, she had a little bit of Alopecia on one side. But I began to notice that it happened again right on the other side in her rear flank. Then she got all these spots all over her after the vaccination. I took her back to the vet and he was very concerned. He suggested I take her to a dermatologist which I did. I called AKC ahead of time and told them everything. I said it could be very costly and that I’m gonna do it no matter what. The skin testing alone would have been almost $1,000 and they said it's absolutely covered. They told me to bring the paperwork to them and they'll take care of sending it in, which they did.
Then I got a denial because her records say she had seasonal allergies and it was preexisting. I told them it was an allergy to an injection. I never ever board her. I have only gone away from her in the last year and a half twice overnight and a relative comes and stays with her at my house. I've never ever put her in a kennel. Then they even denied the one injection that I didn’t need to get her and which I won’t ever do again. They said I could appeal, but it’s not gonna do any good.
So I spent money for them faithfully every single month then I can’t even use it? I’m not a wealthy person and the $35 a month is hard. I was so hoping I would never need to use it and that the money can go to somebody else whose dog does. But then it came to that I needed it, and I was flat out denied after I even called and spoke with someone ahead of time. At least I had a $250 deductible which I had already met from the visit at the vet’s and the specialists were wonderful. It was the first time I ever had health insurance for a dog but it was not a good experience.
We are so sorry to hear that your dog is experiencing health issues. According to our records your dog was seen for recurrent hair loss. According to the medical records received during the investigation of your claim the recurrent hair loss had been ongoing since February 2015. Since your pets policy did not start until March 2015, the condition is pre-existing to coverage and unfortunately not eligible for coverage. We also reviewed the phone call you made with us asking if our policies covered allergies; at that time the customer service representative did explain that allergies are eligible if it was something new and not something that had been ongoing. As the customer service representative explained allergies can be eligible for coverage but like any illness or injury, our terms and conditions do not provide coverage if something is present prior to the start of the policy. We sincerely hope that Coco makes a quick recovery.

I looked AKC up when the breeder gave us the AKC stuff. I wasn’t going to register my puppy with AKC. Plus, I’m going to have him fixed because he had a hernia so he shouldn’t be bred. Then, I saw that if you register with the AKC, you get one free month of pet insurance. It sounded good and I did more research and looked at six different insurance companies for pets, and AKC was the best. They have the best build-your-own plan. They're the only one that had a $100 deductible when all the other plans out there were $200 or $250. You could set your limits for the year. A lot of the other ones didn’t offer that.

It's a very good idea to have a pet insurance. They’re covered if your animal was well when you took out the policy, and that’s reasonable. I had a cat quite a long time ago that developed a malignant tumor somewhere in her gastrointestinal system. She had surgery and survived it. I could not have afforded $3,500 to do that, but the insurance that I had at that time covered it. However, I wasn’t satisfied with the insurance and I thought that AKC would be a better choice. So far, I am satisfied and very pleased. When I take one of my four cats and two dogs to the vet, the vet will fax in the claim form for me and AKC gets in touch with me to tell me they got the form and are considering it and then I get a check. The process could be quicker but it’s the way they do it.

I chose AKC because of their pricing but I actually only had the policy for about a week. I started it in early September and then I had to end it. My dog wasn't diagnosed yet and she was sick but nobody knew what was wrong with her. Then I found out that she had a really bad form of cancer and the policy wasn’t gonna cover anything because it was a pre-existing condition and it was too late to use. But they were so nice about it, let me cancel over the phone, and didn’t keep me tied in any contract. I told the girl that I will definitely be getting it earlier for my next dog and go with the same company because they were so nice to me on the phone. It was a great experience overall.

So I purchased AKC Pet Insurance because AKC is a trusted brand. Well, I submitted three claims for vet visits, one for a wellness checkup and two for my GS having worms. According to my policy documents, I have the CompanionPlus, DefenderPlus, ExamCare, and InheritedPlus, and my coverage covers De-Worming and Heartworm Prevention. But, since this was not diagnosed during the annual checkup... it's excluded. In fact, all my claims were denied... WHAT?!? So if I understand correctly, I pay almost $700 in premiums annually, and my dog can only get sick once a year around the annual checkup... This is a big disappointment and I'm currently looking at other Pet Insurers to avoid misleading/dishonest vendors like this.
We are so glad that you decided that pet insurance was an important investment in your pet’s future. We have looked into the claims in question and apologize that there has been some confusion. It appears that the claim submitted on your wellness visit was in fact denied by our system in error, which we spoke with you about yesterday. Our system shows that we have corrected this and that your check for this claim should be in the mail today. However, reimbursement was denied for the Pyoderma (skin infection) because the onset of the infection fell within the 5 day waiting period. Again we apologize for the confusion and we hope that your pet is on the road to recovery.

When I registered my dog I got an email which put me in an automatic trial period with AKC Pet Insurance. I haven't done insurance in the past but I purchased a very expensive dog and it did not breed. I used AKC when the dog had to have emergency surgery and once I sent the information for they massive bill, they responded quickly. I got a check within three weeks after the dog died in the operating room table.
Two weeks before the emergency happened, my dog has been favoring his shoulder and my vet couldn’t find anything wrong with it. So as recommended by a good friend of mine I took him to a different vet and my claim came after I lost him. They did call me and ask me a couple of questions, but I didn’t know if they’re going to reject the claim. They should let me know, like shoot an email, to inform me they got my claim and it’s in the works. But there’s not a lot of back and forth. They’re waiting to see if there’s any questions. There should be more dialogue for me to know my claim's status.
I thought doing the insurance was a good thing with the price. But going forward, I'll change what I purchased. It was $5,900 and it would’ve been more if the dog completed the surgery. I learned that next time I get insurance I have to read the copay portion. I will change my deductible of what I fit, and not go with a $5,000 per occurrence because surgery is obviously ungodly expensive depending on what kind. I will do more investigating when I ever decide to get another dog and see if I purchased the right thing for me.
Thank you so much for your feedback. We are sorry to hear about the loss of your pet. We hope that you found value in our insurance and think of use when the time comes. If you ever have any questions about coverage please don’t hesitate to call. We are here to help!

I bought my supplies at Petland and got AKC Pet Insurance. I've been a policyholder with AKC for close to a year now. My pet Muriel was two at that time and was getting older, and I'm sure that I'll be able to provide care for him if anything goes wrong. It’s a Bichon Frise mixed with Shih Tzu and he’ll be turning three. He’s a family member. When I see him hurting, I want the best care possible and that’s definitely very expensive so it’s good to have a little bit of shock absorbent. I got my money pretty fast when he has his checkup. Everything’s been pretty positive with AKC. Their guys answer real prompt. Since nothing major has happened, I hope they will be as great as everything now.

Acquiring a pet insurance seemed like you could get walloped with a big charge. Like all insurances for human beings, we all have to pay our annual charge for coverage, and it looks like a lot at first glance. A lot of people aren’t able to come up with that amount to cover their pets. It’s another $500-600 a year bigger than you’re paying. But it worked out when I put forth my claim, and it’s very simple. My veterinary hospital put it in for me. I provided them with some quick information, and everything went really smoothly. My dog had a little growth removed this spring, and they came through for me. Then came my reimbursement check. I’m very happy with that.
However, I am a little disappointed because it doesn’t cover teeth cleaning and, like human beings, teeth cleaning contribute to overall health and well-being. I wanted to keep the charge for the year at a certain amount. What I have wouldn’t cover it. Yet with poodles, my vet tells me that particular breed often needs repeated teeth cleaning. It would be good if I could claim that. I wish there would be a provision with what I’m paying, if at least they would pay a percentage of it. How to make teeth cleaning more affordable and incorporate it into coverage without skyrocketing the amount of premium you would have to pay.
But, the way AKC Pet Insurance handles things are a lot better than any of the insurance companies for people’s health; it was fairly quick with them. I have a very positive experience to date. I hope it continues ‘cause my dog is getting up there in years and I hope he’s in good health. I also hope that I won’t have to be in a position to file a lot of claims. I would recommend them to someone else.
Thank you so much for your feedback and recommendations. We are so glad that your experience has been a good one. I had English Mastiff before that had hurt himself and surgery for him was so expensive. It was ridiculous. So I thought next time I'm getting a pet insurance especially if there's an emergency and I have less money that time. It’s valuable having one and it's an investment. So that's what I did with my other English Mastiff. I got her an insurance and got it from AKC Pet Insurance since their price list looks good.
Then recently, my dog ate something and I had to take her to the vet. I sent in a claim and it was easy once I figured it out. I heard back that AKC received it but I haven't heard anything else since then in about 30-something days. But the girl I was talking to on the phone when I called, because I guess my first fax didn't go through, was so nice. She sat on the phone while I re-faxed it and made sure they received it. Everybody I talked to there was very nice and I have recommended them to a few people. I'm also looking into having insurance for my horses since their shots, visits and exams are expensive.

I have been an AKC Pet Insurance policy holder since November of 2013. I got a Wirehaired Pointing Griffon puppy then for the first time. They’re rare in the country but they’re not real common gun dogs, but now I have two. I got the male first in November and then we got the female a year ago. And when we file a claim with AKC, our experience has been easy. My vet sent off all the information and within several weeks, I got a check. Everything that I submitted was approved except for something standard that 0they don’t generally approve but happen to be on the receipt.
Having a pet insurance is one of those things I hope I’m wasting my money on. I don’t want to use it but I don’t want to be without it. Our dogs are like our kids so if something happens, I can do something that would help them. And if I had a bad experience, I would switch because my dogs are so young and they don’t have pre-existing conditions that I can easily switch. So far, my experience was great and if ever I would need it for something major, I hope that it’s the same experience. The only thing that concerns me about pet insurance in general is that there are so many caveats of what they may or may not cover and I don’t ever want to find out what they don’t cover.

When my pets were young, the cost of treatment was pretty minimal. But as they get older, a lot of things can happen and sometimes treatments are very expensive. We had a dog at North Carolina State for seven weeks and that was very expensive and we didn’t have an insurance. So that’s when we really thought, we “locked the barn door and left the horses out.” And so I got a pet insurance, but I wasn’t satisfied with it because I didn't vaccinate my dogs, I titer them. And AKC Pet Insurance covers titering.
I've been with them for a long time now. I started with the puppy we have and she’s three years old so it’s in that vicinity that I'm a policyholder. It’s always been easy with them. The forms are pretty straightforward and I usually have those filled out for my vet and all he has to do is write in what he did and sign it. That saves him time and it's not very complicated.
I thought that what they pay for some of the things is pretty low. I pay $300 for a titer and they pay me back 20-some dollars. Also, one of the things I really appreciate is that all my dogs have been therapy dogs and they passed the Canine Good Citizen Test. And when that happens, they reduce our monthly payment which is a great help. That makes up for a lot of things so I like that part of their policy. It's a good experience and I would recommend them to a friend.

He had become ill and it involved quite a bit of money. So I decided it's better to pay quite a bit of money over time rather than pay all at once. They seem to have lived up to what they say they're gonna cover. And I’ve been with my vet a long time, so he lets me wait until I get paid from them to pay him. It's very convenient.

AKC seemed to offer more. I liked their program and how I could pick from different types depending on how much I wanted to insure her.
I have the insurance for a year now. I know the form I have to give and get the vet to fill out, and it took a while for me to learn what I had to do. A couple of times I had to take it in again and then fill it out. But it was not a problem. I called AKC when I had a minor question about the stuff that I squeeze on the back of my pet's neck for the fleas. I thought that they would pay a portion of it each time, but they only pay for it once a year. It was okay. I now know the rules. I find nothing wrong with AKC. My dog is my best bud and one of my chief obligations is to take care of him. I wanna be able to make a decision based on what's best for him and not what's best for my pocketbook. My dog is AKC registered and there's a little newsletter that came out mentioning the health insurance policy. I ran a couple of different bids through some other companies and I was happy with the deductible and the premium that the AKC policy offered so I got it. Getting a pet health insurance policy is a little price to pay to protect a big investment. I'm buying peace of mind at $60 a month and so the pet health policy is well worth having. I pay a little bit each month and when times are tight, it's easy to look at that and think of that expense that you could drop. However, we know how expensive it is when our dog actually has something serious, and that just adds to the stress of it.
I've been an AKC policy holder for three years now and fortunately, I haven't had to use the insurance policy at all. My only contact with AKC was when my old credit card that they had on file expired. It's always a nightmare trying to track down everyone that had automatic payments on that old card and AKC gave me a nice courtesy call saying the number no longer worked. When my dog broke his leg when he was a little puppy nine years ago, AKC gave me a $500 reimbursement even if I haven't even gotten a policy yet. It was so impressive that I registered with them for pet insurance. I was pleased with it for many years but now I'm very unhappy with it. They've changed their policy carrier which changed the policy tremendously. With Well Care before, it includes anything if he was sick plus vaccinations and Advantix. Initially, $125 has to be met before one gets anything and then for years it paid 80%. With this new carrier, I still get the same policy but only covers a certain amount of money for things like my dog's Advantix. It's not covering very much at all.
I've let them know about this. I also opted for only another year because it's too late to go with a different policy at this point that my dog's nine and a half years old. My vet told me of a policy that his clients are happy with, which is not AKC. If I was to get another dog, I'd certainly research policies before I opt to go with AKC again. Moreover, I don't even know if I'd get a policy again since it's just cost - there's got to be a big problem to really use pet insurance. A friend of mine who also owns a Vizsla had $4,000 in vet bills within a couple of weeks, but the dog died anyway. I thought in that situation, it might be worse having pet insurance. Nevertheless, I'd still recommend this company.

Hence, I've been a policyholder with them since November. Having pet insurance is worth it for all of my babies.
Then sadly enough my dog had damaged her ulna plate. The bone stopped growing and so she had to go and have a major surgery. Granted they may only cover up to $2,000 per surgery per leg, at least that’s that and they didn’t give me a hard time at all. I brought all the information to the vet, they filled it out, and they sent the medical records. AKC emailed me a check within three weeks and they were really good. It was convenient and there was no hassle, no BS, and so I enjoyed. I definitely would recommend them and I have already recommended them to other people. AKC Pet Insurance came with a free trial that's why I signed up. I started the insurance around the end of April and we rehomed Toby in mid-May. We thought we could make it work, but he and the cat never got along and he got to be so strong that my wife couldn’t attend to him during the day while I work. We haven't filled the paperwork to change the registration yet.
I have a hard time justifying the expense of getting a pet insurance. I equate it to the vision insurance that I used to carry at work. By the time I added up my premiums relative to what I got back, I was better off self-insured. For catastrophic incidents, accident, illness things, I could see where the insurance would certainly help with out-of-pocket expenses. But for routine care, there were more exclusions than benefits for wellness. For that reason, I don’t see a lot of merit benefit. It makes sense if somebody has an animal that has the propensity to get sick, but it’s not for everybody. A $500 deductible is a pretty steep price when the average vet bill is $100. We have not filed a claim but we took the puppy to the vet for what we thought was going to be his fourth week shots. We weren’t allowed to do that because he had an ear infection. So for that series of expenses, I will be filing a claim.

I got a new puppy and ended up having AKC insurance through a friend who knew about them. Getting an insurance when the pets are young is important and a good time because I looked into pet insurances a number of times but my dogs were too old. The price goes up as they get older.
I talked to the person at Pet Partners and I was very favorably impressed with the comprehensive services even if they were a little expensive at that time. But it's more than what you pay for it. Then I added the additional wellness feature which is not included, or they may not have it at all, in the normal amount of one of the big insurances that I was looking at. With AKC, it was $43.95 without wellness and $59.95 with wellness. I shopped around before I made the selection and AKC has been a good choice. It has better, more comprehensive services whereas the others, if you read the fine print, they are limited on certain things.
The new puppy had a lot of expenses and the insurance has really paid for a lot like labwork, microchip, neutering and wellness shots. I've been pleasantly surprised. I send in a claim and they pay it very promptly. Sometimes there's something that will be excluded, which I understand, but they have done an excellent job. We love AKC Pet Insurance. It was highly recommended to us by my sister-in-law who was the breeder of Bernese Mountain dogs and from whom we got our dog from. Our dog is the kind that eats grass if she has to throw up. In December, she had eaten about three feet of the small bathroom rug and she had to have surgery. We took her to the emergency vet on a Friday night. We were concerned that there was going to be a blockage and the vet eventually found that she has some fluid in her lungs and her heart was erratic. So we had to go to another fancier emergency vet in West Palm Beach. They were able to get her stabilized.
She was able to come home and eventually, the rug passed through her system. Nevertheless, the latter emergency vet referred her to a neurocardiologist vet. So she's been under the care of the cardiologist and on medication. She just had check up the other day - her heart is doing well and she looks good. She's put weight back in and acts like a puppy even though she's ten and a half.
This most recent experience of ours is a case of prescription refill and we have no problems with the insurance. AKC pays for everything they allow and they do it promptly as well. I would recommend AKC to anybody. I just did to a man I sat with at the neurocardiologist's office who had a dog that's been rescued from Turkey. I also recommended them to someone who has a puppy that's only a few weeks old. Even if the premium increased from about $800 to $2,000, it's worth it.
We are so glad to hear that your pet is doing well. We thank you for your recommendations and hope that your pet continues to do well.

We have reviewed your policy and it appears that the claim you submitted is for a condition that began during the policy waiting period, thus making it ineligible for coverage as stated in the terms and conditions. If you have any further questions please contact our customer care team. They will be happy to assist you.

I got Chesapeakes before and they always got injured or sick, but I didn't have insurance on them. So when I got Jessie as a pup, I purchased AKC. Jessie is 13 years old now and AKC has come through pretty well for me when she got injured and even when she got cancer. She also ate rocks twice. It's better than our own health insurance because it’s cheaper and they cover more stuff. It’s a little bit expensive but every time I’ve sent stuff in, there’s not a question about it. When we have the forms sent in, they send me a confirmation that they received something and that they’ll check it out. And then within a week or two, I get a check to reimburse me.
Having a pet insurance is very valuable, especially when you have a sporting dog. Now, I have two more Chesapeake Bay retriever puppies that are four months old and are susceptible to getting injured. Both of them are also insured. Right now we have something outstanding because I sent in all of Jessie’s wellness and checkup bills from last year but I haven’t heard anything yet. But everything is very good and I'm satisfied. Thank God I haven’t had to use AKC for my new pups yet.
We are so glad to hear that all of your fur-babies are well. We thank you very much for your loyalty and feedback.

When I got my dog registered, I heard about AKC Pet Insurance. I've been with them since January, and they were fast and covered what I needed covered. My dog broke his legs, so the insurance was important, and I was really impressed with their service. It takes about a month to get my refund and when I texted them and told them I needed it immediately, they did the check and I got my refund right away. That was really nice and was a good service.

AKC Pet Insurance had good prices so I got my pet's insurance from them. So far I like the great service. They always answer my questions when I call and let me know when there's something going on. My puppy had a broken leg for a minute, but she's better now. The process of filing a claim was easy. I would have paid a lot and got nothing back if I didn't have the insurance. But because I have it, I got my money back.

I have a puppy, and AKC insurance is part of the registration. It was a 30-day trial period certificate. So far, my animals have been healthy and I thankfully did not need to use it. It seems like a nice package, but I don’t know if I’m going to continue with it. I live in a mountain area and I had talked to some other rep because I had a question, and he said that you do all the claim filing on your own so it doesn’t matter if a vet takes that insurance or not. My brother and I were talking about pet insurance yesterday and I told him to go and check out AKC because from what I’ve seen, the premiums look reasonable compared to what he was talking about. He just had a $2,000 vet bill. Their dog got sick and the veterinarian ran every test one can imagine on the dog and it really wrecked it up for him.
We are so glad to hear that your pet has been healthy thus far. We appreciate your feedback and thank you for your recommendation.

When I was a policyholder of AKC, I filed a claim for my pet's ear infection and I didn't have any problem doing it. Pet insurance will get more valuable for my pet especially as he ages and he's a very precious pet, but he's far too young for me to be able to afford that much for him at this stage in his life because I'm a widow and on a very fixed income. I know catastrophes happen, but we took out the insurance for that. I needed it on me before I put it on him. I have to make some choices at this stage in my life. Other than that, I had no problems with the insurance and I would recommend them to other people.

I have not had to use the insurance yet. I got her the shots and took her to another vet to get her fixed. I paid for all that with the AKC card and some out of my pocket. The insurance is valuable because if ever I walk him and step onto a glass, my pet will be taken care of if I can't do it. It will come in handy a lot.

Whenever I browsed dog web pages, AKC seems to be very popular. And then I thought it just makes sense that if you're going to have a dog long term, to get pet insurance. My dog is young but I already see the value in getting an insurance policy for my pet, as something could happen and the pet insurance would help offset it. It just seemed like a smart thing to do. AKC Pet Insurance's branding is appealing and gives the idea that the company is reputable so I signed up.
The people at AKC have been nice to work with. I had to call them a couple of times though. It seems a little cumbersome and I don't know if there's any other way around it... For example, I found out there was something the vet had not filed. It wasn't the insurance company's fault but it's difficult trying to keep up with all of the stuff. I don't want to miss out on anything that could be filed. Then there's no communication from AKC saying, "Hey, I received this." I was a little surprised at the lack of communication from them. But overall they are good. When I have called them to ask questions, they are efficient. I guess I'll just have to keep up with it myself just to make sure.

I wanted a very thorough provider as a first-time dog owner and wanted to be sure I had a good insurance so I went with AKC Pet Insurance. I've had a policy with them for almost eight years now. They do very well when it comes to their turn-around time when I file claims. It's fairly quick. However, they don't tell you when you have insurance above and beyond what you need, which I think is bad that I as insured need to call and try and work that out with them. And the rates had gotten so ridiculous and until I did a reassessment with them they weren't going to say anything to me and I don't think that's right. And the fact that if I got the same dog in another state it would cost me half the money is bothersome.
We are so glad to have you as part of our pet insurance family. We appreciate your honesty and feedback as this helps us to improve our ability to serve our customers. We do our best to provide you with the right amount of coverage without over-selling you on coverage you do not need. We do recommend that as your dog ages and your needs change to revisit your policy periodically and assess your coverage. You are correct that premiums vary from state to state. Premiums are dictated by your location which does bring into account the cost of living in that location. This is standard practice in the insurance industry as a whole that allows us as an insurer to provide coverage that everyone can afford. Thank you again for your feedback.

When their titles came in, the literature was in there but I don't have the insurance anymore. I didn't even use the free one-time that you take the pets and get their vaccinations. What I didn't like about the AKC program is that they send me the information through email saying that if you print this out, then you take this certificate and you can get it. I don't do anything on computers. Why not send it in the mail so people that don't get on the computer can go present this paper. AKC Pet Insurance is good. It's just not for people like me that don't know how to do stuff.

I have a Golden Retriever that has insurance on AKC. In October, she came down with a weird ailment. She wouldn't eat and didn't want to chew. I took her to the vet and she was diagnosed with masticatory muscle myositis. I submitted a claim and they said I needed to send more information and so I got the vet to fill that information. At the end of November, they said they had not heard from my vet, so I called the vet and she said, "Oops! I'm sorry, my bad." She then said she sent the information to them. I have yet to hear back on the status of the claim. I also had a claim for Loki, a Doberman, for bloat. But his took a while to get through the system, but not as long as the other one. They haven't let me know anything and I keep thinking, "Well eventually they will let me know."
Having a pet insurance is very valuable. I've had Loki for four years, I paid insurance on him and I've only had one claim. But still, it's a good insurance in case of emergency, because there's nothing that pays the doctors, the vet, bills on animals unless you have pet insurance. If a friend asks me, I would honestly say exactly what I'm telling now. AKC tended to be slow on this claim and I don't know why. If they want to disallow it, fine.

I had AKC Pet Insurance three years ago. During those times, I filed some claims to them - typical vet bills and preventive stuff. The only thing I didn't like was that I had to wait so long to get my money reimbursed. They should have assigned vets that take the insurance and not from out of pocket upfront. After that, I had to wait and see what they were going to give me back. I had to look up the policy all the time.
We are so glad that we were able to help serve you and your pet. We appreciate your suggestion to incorporate networks into our plans. Unfortunately, at this time the pet insurance industry as a whole uses the claim reimbursement model, similar to that of Aflac. This model does allow the customer/pet owner more freedom in the use of the coverage as there is no network base. Our plans allow the customer to use their coverage at any licensed veterinarian in the US and Canada. We bought Chloe from a breeder. Since she was a show dog, she came with the first year of insurance covered. We decided to continue it because it seems like a good idea. It’s generally okay. It’s rather slow. The decisions about what’s covered and what aren’t are often a little strange. Chloe has had a number of serious problems over the years which were handled pretty well, like when she had to have surgery. That was when she started eating stuff she wasn’t supposed to, like rocks. Fortunately, she didn’t need to have surgery as they were able to induce getting rid of them. It happened twice within a period of two months and has now stopped. But they said that they only cover it once in a year.
It’s rather arbitrary. It’s probably on the fine print of the policy. But when you think about it, it’s like if you break your leg and it’s covered by your medical insurance, then you break your other leg, for example, they don’t come back and say, “oh, you’re only allowed to break your leg once in a year.” I know they’re probably trying to juggle what’s covered and what happens versus having the premiums which are high enough, so I think I understand the rationale, but it still seems somewhat odd. Most of the time, if something happens, like infections, she has to have antibiotics and stuff, it gets taken care of. There are forms and stuff for her. They’re kind of a pain to have to take, but of course you have to have the vet sign them.
There was one instance when, for some reason, the vet had neglected to write the explanation in the box and then the whole thing got rejected and we had to go back. But they might as well say, “we need to have the vet write something other than just stamp it.” But anyway, I’ll say they’re generally satisfactory, a little weak on some specifics, policy not very helpful, but it works out. We’ve been with them for 11 years now.
