Walmart thinks your family needs one last party before school starts. And it’s going as all-'80s and ‘90s as anyone could with its upcoming Summer Rewind event – bringing back bounce houses, Spin Art booths, the Forbidden Ball Cage, and a giant Lite Brite.
And, yes, it’s free. And, yes, anyone from anywhere can come. Registration for the events is not required for attendance but is highly suggested to receive event updates.
Getting your freak back on
Life in 2023 is a little more buttoned-up than 1993, but Walmart feels comfortable that it can produce enough innocent fun at Summer Rewind to more than make up for it.
If you want to jump in the Forbidden Ball Cage, go on – no hand sanitizer, mask, or vaccination card required. Barbie will be there, too. Well, at least, some Barbie-like activities, like having your picture taken in a “Barbie box.”
Upon entering, attendees will see an oversized version of Walmart’s original Smiley emoji. From there, they'll be taken back in time to things like the giant Walmart vending machine for the chance to win an exciting surprise, or to try something mom never let you do: get inside a freezer. Actually, it's a freezer speakeasy featuring a colorful selection of frozen summer treats.
