It was very easy to set up the initial 16' box truck rental on Penske's website, and a plus was a discount for veterans. I made the rental over two week before I needed the truck to be sure it would be there when I needed it. My wife dropped me off to pick up the truck, did all paperwork for a 16' truck, and then went out back to get it. Turns out Penske had a 12' truck for me that was way too small -- despite the just completed paperwork on renting a 16 footer. Penske "allowed" me to cancel the reservation saying some other renter still had the 16 footer. No prior notice, email or text from Penske about truck availability, nothing, no apology. I'm 77 years old and hope I never have to rent a truck again, but if I do, it certainly will not be from Penske. My wife had to do another 20 mile r/t drive to pick me up and take me to U-Haul where I got the truck I needed in less than 15 minutes. Don't waste your time with Penske.

Booking was fairly simple and the truck itself was fine, but dealing with any customer service representative both in store and on the phone was bad. Our reservation was at 3:00pm, I arrived at 2:45. The store closes at 4pm. No one was at the store and no one was answering the number pasted to the door. I called the corporate number, they said they would have the store manager call me. A few minutes later, the manager called and was very rude! He said he didn’t know there was a booking and it was somehow our fault. He said he’d call someone to give us the rental and they’d be there in 45 minutes.

It was now well past 4pm and the person who showed up didn’t even work there, was just a friend of the manager. She was heavily intoxicated and obviously didn’t know how to do the paper work. As far as prices, there are a lot of additional fees that aren’t made clear in the booking process. What seems to be an affordable rental is actually quite pricey. By 4:45 we were on the road. We were supposed to be in a town half an hour away at 4:30. Drop-off was no simpler. We arrived at noon the next day, once again, there was no one there. We put the keys in the drop box and never got any confirmation of return and never got our security deposit back. I called a few weeks later to at least get our deposit back, the customer service was incredibly rude and refused to give any sort of refund or return the deposit.

Penske Truck Leasing has demonstrated unacceptable business practices. A vehicle rented from them was in extremely poor condition, dirty, unstable while driving, and unfit for safe operation. This posed a serious safety risk and caused significant delays. After reporting the issue, their representatives verbally confirmed they will take care of the issue. Yet instead of honoring that, Penske attempted to issue a waiver to limit their liability after making verbal commitments, a misleading and unprofessional approach. Penske attempted to charge another card that was used on a previous reservation for gas with permission, which violates their contract if the truck was told to break down.

Additionally, after the vehicle was towed to the Carrollton location, personal property was discovered missing from inside the truck. This raises serious concerns about how Penske handles customers' belongings when vehicles are returned or towed. Even more troubling, there was an unauthorized attempt to use a payment method unrelated to the reservation, which is not only inappropriate but may also constitute a violation of consumer protection laws.

To date, Penske has failed to address these serious issues appropriately or take responsibility. This experience has raised multiple red flags involving customer safety, accountability, and financial integrity. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Penske to others and advise extreme caution when dealing with them. This company operates with: Zero accountability. Unsafe vehicles. Deceptive refund practices. Negligent and possibly criminal employee behavior

You could give more informative training to employees before they start. I was price checking all my moving options. A gentlemen called me to give me the pricing of my move. I told him I only needed the one day. He did not explain that that automatically gave me five days to go across several states and not around town he said stated that no other company could verify that I’d have my truck the day that I needed it and the Penske would reserve it and assured that it would be correct and all the time I needed it I booked a 16 foot truck and a tow dolly when I went to go get it they didn’t have a tow dolly so they upgraded, but I didn’t know how to load it. I didn’t know how to hook it up nor did the young lady there.

I got lucky and had another customer of Penske. He was dropping off a truck to hook it up for me. The lady same as the gentleman who set up the account was both very nice. She stated to me that if I dropped off my truck early cause I only needed the one day to make sure it was checked in and given the time I checked it in so I can get my refund that it would take a few days to process I, of course, knowing that there is a shortage of trucks, according to the gentleman who sold it to me, hurried when I got here and unloaded it I returned it promptly and asked the woman here about the refund, she said it must be done through the office and if there is any refund, it would probably take a few days.

I called a week later to check up on that refunds to find out that they don’t do refunds for one-way trips. The first woman who I spoke to even laughed through the phone about it, thinking that this whole scenario was funny when I told her it wasn’t and I wouldn’t be leaving a good review and then she offered to give me to a supervisor, who then just simply says, "Well, I can’t help you and I apologize." Mind you if I’ve gone through U-Haul they would’ve hooked up my equipment for me and checked all of the equipment and we didn’t know I had a headlight out before I made my trip. I will not be using Penske again. They give out false information. They don’t have people who understand the equipment nor able to hook it up and then they think it’s funny when you get where you went and told things that don’t exist.

Renter Beware... These people do not check the tires on their trucks or car dolly/carriers. We rented a 26 foot truck and car carrier from Ocala FL, during Pick up we mentioned tires looked bad, we were told they were fine and if there was a blowout the roadside service would be quick and efficient. Well let me tell you, it was pure luck I was driving behind my spouse as a pilot car because I'm that truck you don't hear the tires blowing. And we had not 1 but 2 separate blowouts putting our family in bad areas for 6+ hours and on dangerous roads waiting for help and then stuck overnight.

The corporate offices promised us extended contracts and refunds on the two extra days it took to make it the 28 hour drive from Ocala FL to Las Vegas NV (6 days total) and we've done this in 2 before. We never got the extensions and never got reimbursement for the extra days on the road. Not to mention Penske is so cheap they actually wanted us to drive an additional 260 miles on another bad tire because they wanted to save money on a fix. I've spoken to people at the corporate offices that promised to make things right and still not a phone call back. I would steer clear of this company no matter how much you are saving, your lives are not worth the risk.

I say NO STARS but it won't let me! On 01/11/2024 My mother picked up a Penske truck rental for me. (Due back 01/14/2024) I was moving to Decatur, Alabama from Jasper, Georgia. I was given a Drop Off location, Bryant Brothers Automotive, Decatur, Alabama. The pick-up was perfect, no complaints. However, when I was trying to drop the vehicle off, I had to call for the location since it was just a warehouse and I felt uneasy leaving it there. I was assured by the woman on the phone that it was ok. I dropped it off on the scheduled day with a full tank of gas as required. I didn't think anything else of it. I was back at Fort Benning, Georgia and received a frantic phone call from my mother that I received a certified letter from PENSKE. I told her to open it immediately. It stated that I had not dropped off the vehicle and that I was liable for it.

I immediately went into panic mode, I was a Soldier and I was about to be in trouble! This letter stated that I had not returned the vehicle, which I did, and even had a conversation with the woman on the phone of how to drop the keys for it in the mailbox! How am I responsible for this when I did as the contract stated! I made a minimum of three phone calls to rectify the situation, eventually they said they found the vehicle....right where it was supposed to be. I never received an apology. This situation has made it difficult to ever trust your company again.

Penske billed my credit card first then two weeks later I get a bill in the mail stating why I was billed. They had two different addresses for my rental on file. How this is possible is beyond me. The date of the unpaid tolls from two different states btw was the same day I rented the truck 1200 miles away. The agent could not explain any of the charges as they made no sense to her either. Great equipment and the rental itself was fine.

The home depot service desk needed me to call penske first to even rent it out, as there do not the rental contracts. I called Penske and ask for an estimate for going back and for to texas from tennessee. I told customer service, we estimated 600 miles, so 1200 back and forth and needed it for 2 days. So she told me around 600 dollars, what I thought would be ok, plus insurance. I ask her twice and she said again around 600. If she had told me the charge is 99 per mile I would have driven my own truck with a trailer. Very disappointed with their service, feel like they pulled me really over the table on this one. The end bill has been 1985.00 $. So if anyone wants to rent from Penske be aware of their shady practice. I won't ever deal with this company again.

I will be honest in my review and say the truck rental process was somewhat easy in the beginning. We rented a truck at Home Depot in Iowa for our move to South Carolina. Upon pickup, we found our rental had an upcharge for insurance even though we said our auto policy covered us. After a bit of a struggle we were able to review the truck. The Home Depot employee was more interested in documenting scratches instead of going over operation and safety features. We were able to load and go to South Carolina where, unfortunately, we ran into Hurricane Helene. The entire west side of the state was without power, and Home Depot in Spartanburg was running on generators. We wanted to turn in the truck and evacuate, but we were being fined almost $200 for "not filling the tank".

The state had no power, no gas, no services, even the 911 system was down. The Home Depot employee would not back down. A state of emergency with no gas available is apparently not reason enough for Penske and Home Depot to waive a punitive fee. One hundred percent would never rent from them again nor can I recommend to others due to inability to compromise in extreme, unforeseen circumstances.

This was the worst experience I have ever had renting a truck that was totally unsafe to drive. The tires were so bad that the truck vibrated horribly during the whole trip I thought that we were going to break down. When I tried to speed up the truck started slowing down. This vehicle was totally unsafe to drive. At times it became hard to steer. It was so nerve racking for me and my wife the fear of a breakdown, the fear of losing control of the vehicle. On a grading scale I would give Penske an F-Plus for allowing this vehicle to be rented over $1100.00 Never again.

I sat there and waited. Blew my horn, nobody came out, I called again, the woman said she would send someone out. Nobody ever came out, after 20 I left with no fuel. Leased 7 tractors from Penske in Long Island for approximately 5 years. They will give you the price that you want but then go on to charge you for things that you're warrantied for and then some. You will have monitor your invoices very closely and fight for your credits. They'll give it to you but if you don't pay attention it will cost you the savings from their competitors and then sum. Have Ryder for over 8 years also and though they are not the cheapest they are easier to deal with and the invoices are consistent. Will transition to all Ryder next contract. The grass is not greener on the other side.

I thought I did my research for truck companies and saw the great video for the newer vehicles at Penske. I reserved a high roof van on 24 Aug for a 7 Sep one-way move. I received a confirmation but when I went to the storage facility franchise, the only vehicle available was a 16' truck which was too big for my job. The attendant said, "high-roof vans are hard to get." I expressed my extreme disappointment in his response and he was apologetic but neither he nor the Penske Chandler central office were able to find a vehicle to fit my needs in the entire Phoenix metroplex. I was totally stuck and had hired hourly labor waiting at my apartment. I asked why Penske didn't contacted me about the lack of vehicles and the central office manager did not have an answer. I told him to cancel my fake reservation.

Panicked and not from the area, I just started Googling other truck companies in Chandler AZ. A lady in the lobby overheard the discussion and told me to go to a nearby U-Haul. Thank God for her. I took an Uber to the U-Haul facility, had my pick of newer smaller trucks and was on my way in 10 mins. I was amazed at the superior customer service and selection. I will never consider Penske in the future. Penske should resource their contracted vendors better and improve the customer experience with better communication that matches their slick websites and videos. Having the local vendor "figure it out" is not fair to them.

Penske website doesn't offer reviews apparently, I don't think they care. I had to hunt for this web to write a review. Called main corporate. Couldn't get an answer to place review, want my info before helping me, placed on hold forever, finally hung up, chat service on web never shows up, they shouldn't offer it if it is just for show.

Had to make dozens of calls to get my reservation straight, then fight for pickup location. Website won't let you see prices, everything I was clicking on to look at for figuring prices and dates just for a guess of what and when to get it, website kept sending me reservations which I wasted an hour canceling. Inefficient company set up. Everything is a hassle and unclear. Bad tires on truck, worn out. Had to fight the steering wheel for hours and hours of driving, exhausting, heavy vibration, worn out tires, hydraulic lift losing fluid, had to keep elevating lift as it keep dropping, causing us to step out of truck and almost fall, had to strap the lift up while traveling to keep it up as well, I won't go on and I won't use them again. Gave them 2 stars since I did end up with a truck that got me back and forth.

Rented a truck with a car tow from Penske in Kalamazoo, MI. First it came missing a safety pin, when we called they said it “should be fine” without it. Then halfway to our destination (which was 500 miles south) we noticed that the hitch had been attached improperly by the worker at the Kalamazoo location. After being on hold for upwards of a half an hour, they said roadside assistance would be there in 90 minutes. No care was shown & nothing was done to compensate for the issue they caused, and about 3 hours were added to the time we were on the road because of their incompetence. Additionally, if we hadn’t noticed the mistake, someone very well could have been injured. There are so many other rental options, choose one of those.

This has been one of the worse experiences I had in purchasing a truck. They lie, they just want your money and they offer 15 days of warranty because they ensure to have the truck running with no issues for at least 15 days but then after that you start having all this issues with the trucks. Penske reps, they sale you a dream and painted all good until those 14 days are up then they just kick you to the curve and if you're lucky to buy NTP which is their so best claimed truck protection is a hassle and headaches. Stay away from this company as they scam you and sell lemon trucks. Take your money somewhere else and save yourself the headache and hard working money.

I will never do business with this company again. Bought a truck 2 and half weeks later transmission problems is giving. I get lucky and not need a transmission. I took it the shop and they are talking about taking down the transmission. It's sad that a big company like this with such a big reputation has to come down to scamming people and selling bad trucks that will leave truck drivers stranded in the middle of a load. Penske needs to improve on their work to selling their level 1 trucks. Customers trust what they say and when customers like me start loosing trust in your brand, trucks I'm done. If I could give zero stars to Penske I would. I reserved a Penske truck to move my late brother's belongings from Harlingen, TX to Midland, TX, with the truck to be picked up at 8:30 AM on July 6. At 6:45 PM on July 5 I received a voicemail from the local Penske office informing me that because of impending Hurricane Beryl they are closing their office and that my truck would not be available until Tuesday, July 9. Bear in mind that forecasts don't have the storm coming ashore before Monday morning, 48 hours after my pick up time. So essentially they're saying that you and your family, who drove 9 hours to get here to load the belongings and help with the move, can cool your heels and ride out a hurricane, because they don't have a single employee who can check out a truck to me at 8:30 AM, two days before landfall, when the forecast is warm and sunny.

They confirmed the reservation in numerous emails, the weather is going to be clear until Monday, they have the truck, but they can't bother to find a single employee to check out the truck. A call to the national Penske office was met with "Sorry, you know, weather." Complete and total disregard for the customer. And by the way, we would have been taking the truck well out of harm's way. So I canceled the reservation (having no alternative) and was able to rent a larger truck from U-Haul. And by the way, the U-Haul truck rental will be $800, as opposed to $1,400 for the Penske truck. There is no conceivable circumstance that I would ever do business with Penske again. I would rather walk. Enough said.

She was quick and efficient with the paperwork. We added drivers (that turned out to be essential) and bought a padlock for the back (that was also essential because the one we had at home didn't fit! NOTE - the strong padlock is well worth the low price - approx $10). The Amazing Spaces store is a great place to rent. No line. Nice store. Packing supplies available. The truck was clean inside and out. It was ready to go. ** gave us advise for our trip and made sure we had all the emergency numbers that we needed. It felt like renting from a friend.

The drive from Houston to Salt Lake City went smoothly and the truck ran well. There is an AC outlet for charging the phone and also a USB plug. The truck had all the safety features you would hope for, including 2 airbags. The front cab is very large. We carried our plants in that part of the truck. Do NOT use Hertz-Penske. Never had such a horrible experience renting a one-way truck and we've moved a lot over the years. We booked way in advance for a 22' truck with car tow. Got to the Home Depot at the appointment time and were told they didn't have the vehicle. After a wait, we were told that a different location had one and switched the reservation to there. We got in front of that Home Depot and Hertz-Penske called to say they were mistaken, to go to a different Home Depot that was very far away at this point. We were told that they had called that Home Depot and that they definitely had the truck. We got there, and guess what? No vehicle. They had a 26' but after being on hold with Penske for too long to get that approved, the guy shrugged and said there was nothing he could do.

As a side note, I am 68 and my husband 71. We should have been helped way more but the incompetence was frightening. I called the 800 number and they called the last Home Depot. They were told they indeed had the 26' and to go back. I was told by the employee that someone would definitely be able to help with the car tow, after we asked multiple times if they could help. My husband dropped me off at home and drove back, another 30 minutes and they had the vehicle. They showed him the basics, but wouldn't help him figure out how to strap the wheels on. Another delay, so now it is 4 hours after our original appointment and we are both exhausted.

I called the district manager who told me they couldn't help with the strap due to liability reasons. My husband finally figured it out and got the vehicle on the road, but each time he goes over a bump, it sounds like an earthquake. I'm sitting here worried that he won't make it home in one piece. This is by far the absolute worst experience with a truck rental ever. Now we have to lug a 26' truck towing our brand new minivan across the country. Never again with Hertz-Penske!!

We had a very bad experience with Penske (understatement). When we went to rent from the 19103 I-45 Conroe, TX location on 4-3-2024, the van we had reserved was damaged (the side door was secured closed using a strap attached to the other side of the van as it would not stay closed otherwise). They only had one other van available, but it was for local use only, and we were dropping the van off in Galveston, which is not local.

After the very kind and helpful staff at the 19103 I-45 Conroe, TX Home Depot location, tried calling Penske a few times and received no help, they decided to let us take the local use only van because we had been there already a couple of hours after our reservation time and we needed to start using the van to move. After inspecting the van, the registration sticker was not current, and we felt uncomfortable driving it. Penske may advertise that they have a newer fleet but the maintenance on their vehicles is a huge problem. So we went back into the store, and after a few more phone calls, the helpful staff found a van for us at the 1241 W Davis Street, Conroe, TX Home Depot. We then drove the 15 mins to the location.

The process went pretty smoothly and we were out of there after another 20 minutes, we had to drive another 15 minutes south to begin our move. By this point, we were delayed from our original pickup time by 3-4 hours. The move went smoothly. When we went to return the van ON TIME to Penske at the 702 65th Street Home Depot in Galveston, TX the information for the van was not changed in the rental system. In the system was the original van that had the expired registration and the original time we picked up the first vehicle.

The woman that helped us at the Galveston Home Depot at first was confused because the van that we returned was not the van in the computer. We explained the situation and she made some phone calls for us. Unfortunately we had an obligation in Galveston at 2pm that we couldn't miss, so the woman said she would take care of it and call us when it was all set. My wife got the call that everything was taken care of.

The next day, even though the vehicle WAS returned on time, Penske charged us $100 for an extra day saying it was returned late. It was returned on time but due to the employee's error of not changing the truck number in the system to the actual truck that was used and the inability for the Galveston Home Depot employee to get ahold of Penske and to fix this issue in a timely manner we were charged for an extra day.

This whole experience was a nightmare. Not only was there a multiple hour delay to get our move started (due to having poor maintenance) even though we had a reservation and on top of that, had to travel out of our way to another location which delayed us another hour or so, this mixup with the wrong vehicle in the system also cost us financially because we were charged an extra day. We contacted Penske for a refund of at least the extra day and they agreed but it never was sent. It has been over a month. This review is going on the 3 Penske/Home Depot locations that were involved in this disaster of a rental experience. Do yourself a favor and don't use Penske.

I picked up a one way rental Penske truck from Home Depot in Bowie MD. It was a nightmare!!!.. First of all, I was charged for service options I specifically waived. When I noticed the significant price increase the HD employee told me that it was for a security deposit. She explained that I would get the deposit back on my credit card in 3-5 days and only explained this to me after I questioned the significant price increase. I later learned on my own that there is no security deposit if a credit card is used.

I called Penske and was told later that I was charged for a total insurance package which I specifically waived. Secondly, the Home Depot employee could not charge me at the Penske desk because "the computer was down". I waited about 30 minutes for the "team lead" to figure out how to charge me. A nice cashier at the Home Depot service desk put her into a computer and I received my contract. This only happened after the employee disappeared and I went to look for the "lost" employee. On a previous occasion, my son rented a one-way truck for a move and filled that truck up before drop off was still charged for refueling. (I was with him). He let it go because he was frustrated and too busy to worry about "40.00".

In summary, I called Penske and Hunter promised to refund me for the insurance 83.00. He told me that I would see the refund on my credit card in 3-5 days. He also suggested that next time, to avoid issues, I should pick up and drop off at a Penske location. Enough said. No more Home Depot and no more off-site drop off and pick up. However, after that, there were no problems at all with the van, and throughout the process customer service was terrific. People at the Penske hotline and at each location (even non-Penske like Home Depot) were patient, helpful, and informed. They helped me get a better discount than I initially found online, gave me a new contract to account for the initial delay, and waived the late fee when I returned the van a few hours late. So, despite the problems getting the van in the beginning, the excellent customer service throughout more than made up for it and I would happily rent from them again. - Adam N.

So I left and found out on driving back from getting truck on my moving day that I had a headlight out. So while moving in rain had to be on phone with roadside to get it fixed. I reserved a Penske Rental Truck to move from San Francisco to Boston. It was difficult from the start. I set up the pickup from one location, but the truck was 90 minutes late arriving. When it did, it was very low in diesel fuel additive and very low in fuel and they didn’t have any. They said for both shortcomings, I would receive a discount. They asked me to drive their truck to another location to get the additive, when I arrived they said it was not a good idea to take that truck because they were not sure why the level was low and sending it out before it was checked over was not safe. They said they would give me a different truck but it was not ready. I waited another hour and was given a freshly washed and gassed truck. Once again I was told I was going to be given another discount for my inconvenience!

I had prepaid the entire move so they were going to be giving me 3 credits against my charge. The drive was fine across half the country but in Iowa the transmission started to lock up whenever I put it in park. As I was stopping and sleeping on the road this was a major problem. A few times I was able to enlist over the road drivers to help me get the vehicle out of park. My only recourse was to put the vehicle in neutral, use the parking brake and leave the vehicle running.

I called Penske “roadside” service, but they were always hours away from assisting us even though we were traveling US 80. Penske “roadside” also offered that Penske would likely give us another discount for all the time we were losing. When I arrived, unloaded and returned the truck I was told there was no way they could offer credits as they were only a drop off location. I received a phone contact for a regional office, but never made direct contact with the man I was to speak to. He NEVER responded to any of my voice messages! Moving is hard! They did NOT make it easy!!! The people at origin were very polite and tried to be helpful. The company did not fulfill their obligation. It was a very poor experience!!!

When I rented my first truck in August 2023 no one was in the office and the doors were locked and it was raining. Finally he showed up and we got the truck. We had to go back in the office because he forgot to open the gate and we didn't get the hand truck we ordered and everywhere we called we couldn't reach anyone. Finally we did the next day but then we didn't want it. Then I ordered another truck a week later. First they had an extra 160 miles on it and we had to go back in and have it corrected. We had the truck for 6 days and instead of mileage for 44 miles they charged us for that plus the 160 from the beginning. I had to fight to get that money before they finally gave it back. I told them they never gave me back my 100. 00 deposit but they ignored me. They won't acknowledge it at all. I wrote and requested a paper receipt sent to me itemizing each thing but they just ignored me.

At 8am I was advised that they didn’t have a 26’ truck, and was advised to call the metro Detroit Penske and they could advise where my truck was at and when it would arrive. So, I moved from Knoxville, TN to Vermont. I reserved the truck 30 days in advance both times. Both times, the truck I reserved was not available. The first move, they told me I needed to drive to Sevierville, TN. to pick up the truck. It's a full hour away. I was a big enough jerk to corporate that they drove the truck to Schaad road Home Depot for me. Took 5 hours. So I lost 5 hours of drive time. Ended up costing me $480.00 for 2 motel rooms because we couldn't make a 17 drive in the dark. I had only planned on 1 night in a motel.

Two months later, the same thing happened again. Except I only had to drive 30 minutes to Maryville, TN. to pick up the correct truck. Then back to Schaad rd. Home Depot to get a hand cart and moving blankets because Maryville didn't have either! Really? You're a moving company! The second truck was also a piece of junk. Dirty in the cab, dirty in the back, dented, scratched, bumper was almost falling off. Now let's discuss the car haulers. Both had broken ratchet straps. This is what holds the car in place on the trailer!

So, rent from Uhaul. Penske used to be a good company, but it's now run by a laughing stock of clowns. You might get a better price from them, but the reality is that their lack of professionalism WILL cost you money. And they don't care. Corporate are a bunch of selfish and careless people. I will never rent from them again!

After having stood there for 45 minutes waiting for him to come up with a solution, I decided to call other rental services in the area. I was able to secure a U-haul which was available immediately. When I called Penske to ask what they were going to do about their failure, they told me they aren't going to do anything since the truck was never checked out to me. We loaded up the truck and drove to Ocala. No problems !! We parked and rested in Ocala. When started leaving the tires on the carport were smoking. We pulled over it stopped smoking so we left. We notice it smoking again and we pulled over. The first tires on the carport were on fire. My car was on top and the carport was on fire.

They had a fire extinguisher but thank god we had water bottles. My car would have blown up and all my stuff. Took over an hour for them to come and get the car port. When I dropped off I said I’m the one with the car port that caught on fire. Acted no big deal!!! I said I’m not paying for it and I need a discount. I was given a number to call. I was told not to worry about gas it will be fine won’t be charged. Basically don’t want to hear me complain. I have reached out for my refund and was told I need to call the office for the drop off. got a 75$ bill today for gas. The truck was almost full and that’s what I paid to fill this it up. We just finished using a Penske truck to take our daughter's stuff across the country. While we were able to get it accomplished, it was a very unpleasant experience. First, we specifically chose Penske so we could rent a van. We were going to be driving through several cities and wanted a vehicle that would navigate the local streets a little easier. They assured us over and over again that the van would be there but when we showed up, we got a 12 ft. truck. No discount or apology for not giving us what we ordered.

We had to significantly alter our trip due to the much larger vehicle. Second, the cab was extremely loud. Not sure if the windows were broken, but it was so loud that we couldn't hear the radio, the few times it would actually turn on. Third, they have a governor on their trucks. The governor is set at 75 mph. That is fine, but when the speed limit is 75 and you're trying to pass a truck going 72 mph, it does not allow you to speed up so you can pass at a safe rate. Instead, you are holding up traffic while you inch past a truck. Some might like that, but I didn't. Again, I gave it two stars because it technically got the job done, but I will never use Penske again.

Penske relies on a legal disclaimer in their online terms which says if the truck you book is unavailable they reserve the right to stick you with a bigger one. Based on prior experiences where the same thing occurred, Penske seems to disregard the customer’s needs and safety in exchange for Penske’s business convenience. This review is about Hermitage, Pennsylvania. You would have to be out of your mind to rent a Penske truck from these Home Depot people. We picked up a truck on a Sunday afternoon. The Home Depot staff had no idea what to do and were on hold with Penske for more than 20 minutes. The next morning, after the Home Depot staff was on the phone with Penske for at least another 20 minutes, we picked up a car trailer for that truck. The Home Depot staff refused to give us any assistance with hooking it up to the truck and getting the car onto it although the Penske brochure says its agents will help customers hook up the trailer. When, at our insistence, they brought us the brochure on how to hook up the trailer, they acted like they had never seen the brochure before and never been asked for one before.

Overnight, our reservation had mysteriously disappeared, so when we called Penske to complain about Home Depot, Penske said it had no record of us (even though, at that point, we had both the truck and the trailer). Penske wanted to give us about one-third off our bill because of our horrible experience with both their company and with Home Depot, but Home Depot refused to cooperate and we ended up having to pay the entire bill anyway since the charge was made by Home Depot and not by Penske.

When we were almost to our destination, we hit a deer. I called Penske's national customer service, and the lady was helpful overall. However, the next morning a repair guy simply showed up and started working on the truck, without either Penske or the repair guy informing us who he was or when he was coming--I just happened to notice a man working on the truck's front left fender. I cannot emphasize how terrible and absurd the entire experience was from start to finish.

I paid what I owed, the original amount of $591.63 for less than 24 hours use of the van. I do not owe another 3 weeks of use. The bills show weekly billing cycles. I did not use or authorize any weekly billing. I am formally complaining and am planning to make my complaint public as much as possible. These charges are blatantly fraudulent.

BEWARE!!!! My husband and I drove from Virginia to California in a 16 foot truck that included a car carrier. During the entire process we broke down twice due to receiving a faulty car carrier. Our carrier completely detached from the truck itself and almost caused a crazy accident. We were unable to get roadside assistance to help us, so we had to pay out of pocket for the damages. After repairing the damages we got on the road the next day and experienced another major issue with the car carrier. The back tires completely blew out in the middle of the freeway. And on top of that the trailer started to catch on fire. Long story short please give your money to another reliable moving company. This by far has been the worst experience I have ever encountered with moving.

Penske wanted to double my rate from 2K to 4K today because I made my reservation in May 2020 and in Nov. they would only honor extending me out 1 month to Dec. 31. Who in their right mind would move across country on New Year's Eve by themselves?? I told that supervisor he could drive their truck for me as I refuse to depart on that date with high possibilities of snow, sleet & ice. Did he want their truck totaled?!

Today, Joe would not work with me either as I pissed the first supervisor off in Nov. and I'm sure he put a RED flag by my name amongst other things. I pointed out that it's all about money along with supply & demand. EX: if I were in Phoenix wanting to move to Los Angeles the rate was $300 vs. $3,000 LA to Phoenix. That in my book is corporate greed. I can understand a little lead way but really 10x the amount?? They honor discounts and gouge you if you need to change your reservations. So what if I've changed my reservation in the past! These are scary times esp. for a senior even before Covid.

I will never use Penske again and have always used them in the past, nor will I ever recommend them to any of my friends. Their supervisors are rude and I would hope they don't treat their own parents this way. Penske used to be a really good outfit. I don't know if mgmt. changed or ownership, but they aren't the same company they used to be. Shame on you Penske for gouging a senior citizen who lost their job due to Covid amongst other things. Also, gouging anyone leaving LA for that matter right now.

For that reason, along with every competing truck rental, prices were double on our one-way move to Idaho. Other than that, everything was pretty much as advertised. Reservation was fulfilled by a self-storage place, truck was practically brand-new with very low miles, and ran with no issues. A large dolly was provided, along with the requested furniture pads that were in new packaging. I actually ended up with more days on the rental than I needed, so I was able to use the truck to get a new washer and dryer into the house before returning it. Other than being bound by market rates, Penske delivered everything I wanted.

I rented 26 foot truck with car carrier from Penske. I was moving from Mesa, AZ to Dyersburg, TN. A trip that should of took 2 days took me 9 days. First upon picking truck up I noticed steering wheel was not straight and had lots of play. Also would pull into shoulder or other lanes when hitting potholes or bumps in road. I took back to Penske. They told me to take to their repair shop. No. That's not my job. So after they looked at truck they said it was safe. So I loaded truck and car took off on my trip with my kids. Well it took me two days to leave Arizona. When getting to Albuquerque I called Penske. They told me notes say truck was inspected so stayed at motel.

Next morning started journey again. Got what would of took 1 hour from Albuquerque which took me 3 hours. Once again called road side. They sent mechanic. He advised I was lucky I didn't lose control and wreck. The whole front suspension needed repair. So they sent new truck at 3 am and movers to swap trucks which upon unloading they broke a lot of my stuff. Well the loaded took all day. We stayed in new Mexico again. In morning upon getting on freeway new truck started vibrating. Stopped. Called road side again. Talked for 2 hours well in front of truck service station Penske has contract with. So come to find out new truck has bad tires so here goes another 4 hours. Too late to get on road we checked back into motel. Once up got on to highway to Santa Rosa, New Mexico. That's when truck got flat after inspection in Albuquerque. So back to the phone and another motel.

In morning truck got fixed. Headed back to highway but not after going back to truck service station for new valve stems cause I was losing air. Was told that would be 5 hour wait due to them being busy. So back to a motel. Finally in morning got on highway. Made it to Oklahoma and vibrating started again. Took to truck station. They said tire was cupping. So here we go again I left truck and took car and checked into motel which now are being paid for by Penske but still inconvenient. In morning got truck and back onto highway. Finally at 1 in morning on the 9th day made it home. Even though I been refunded money for truck and rooms plus extra $800 I will never use or recommend Penske. They need to fully inspect trucks before renting to public.

I recently utilized Penske for a move out of Chicago due to COVID-19, and was VERY disappointed in the rental service for a number of reasons. I booked a Penske high-roof van a month prior to my actual move date, in order to ensure a seamless process. I booked it out of a location within walking distance from my apartment. Since I didn’t have a vehicle in the city, and I have a member of my household high at risk for COVID-19, I wanted to take all the precautions to make sure the move was safe, efficient, and allowed me to pick up and drop off the van without having to take public transportation or an Uber.

Less than 24 hours before my move, Penske called me to let me know that they were unable to have a van at the location in which I originally reserved the rental vehicle. Instead, they told me I’d need to pick up AND drop off the vehicle on the other side of the city. There was “nothing else they could do,” as vans are in “high demand” at the end of the month. I called Penske back to see if there was anything else they could do, and expressed my concerns about having to take public transportation to get there. On such short notice, was there any possible way they could get a truck to the original location? They told me no. Since I booked so far in advance, I asked why there wasn’t a van at the location, and whether it was normal for them to make such drastic changes to reservation less than 24 hrs before pick-up is scheduled (I couldn’t find note of this being a possibility anywhere in their rental policy). They said it “happens.”

After asking for more help repeatedly, all Penske did was knock some money off of the price (after some nagging from me to make SOME kind of reparation for the new and unexpected difficulties), to account for the fact that I had no choice but to Uber to the pick-up/drop-off location and back, twice, or else walk 6 miles across the city each way. The discount did not end up covering the full Uber costs, and created a lot more stress during the move. The extra unexpected exposure makes it stressful even after the fact.

To top it all off, for advertising their vans and trucks are 2 years old or newer, the high roof cargo van I requested during my reservation did NOT have a high roof, and looked to be a 2015 or 2016 model. I’ve used Penske before, and was satisfied the first time, but this move was an entirely different story. In such difficult times, it would have been nice to have Penske be more accommodating and flexible. Looks like I’ll be going to U-Haul for my next move.

That was hard to say the least. I also incurred more cost to rent the other truck. Now here comes my complaint: Penske truck broke down due to fueling problem, and remember I had a breakdown policy, i then make a claim to Penske. Complete silence for about a week.

An email shows up saying they are sorry but after investigating the claim, they offer to make things right....good, right? Well they kept my money and complete silence and no refund. When looking for a way to move from Chicago to LA, I had many options to consider. First was who will move me? Myself or a moving company? I figured that out rather quickly because Pods and Relocube quoted $3k for my move of a one bedroom apartment. I felt this was expensive and they couldn't even drop the pod/cube on my street anyways due to city regulations, so I would have had to get a truck and bring my stuff to the terminal. I didn't want that kind of hassle and waste of time and additional money. My dad recommended Penske as he had used them before several times and was happy with their service. I didn't opt for Uhaul based on reviews of truck conditions/reliability issues and price.

I made my reservation online with Penske and got a discount because I opted to move in the off season, Dec 9, 2019. I reserved a 16ft truck w a car carrier, plus moving blankets and handtruck. I paid $1550.00. $1150 for one way truck w/ taxes to CA and $400 for car carrier. There was a promo running when I booked so prices may vary. Easy process, I think I had to put a cc on file to reserve but that's normal for renting vehicles. I did have to call Penske a couple times after I booked when my departure date changed. They were very helpful and changed whatever I needed, with no change to my rate either.

I picked up from a Home Depot near my home. Very easy process, took all of 15 minutes. They charge the whole cost on your cc when you take your truck. No hidden fees. They let us leave the car carrier there so we could load up and come back for it. Worked out perfectly. They also have a 24 Roadside Assistance for you in case of any issues. I actually had to call bec one of the tie down straps was stuck and we couldn't load my car. The roadside assistance set up someone to come out and replace it, but 15 minutes later, we got it unstuck and canceled the call. But it's nice to know that service is with you on your move. The truck had Onstar as well, but not sure if that was activated or not since I just used my cellphone to call.

Easy to load truck with pull out ramp. 2 captains chairs in the front made for an easy drive. They don't recline, but it wasn't an issue since we stayed in hotels during our trip. We drove from Chicago to LA, using the south route thru OK, TX NM, AZ and CA. Truck got about 260 to 300 miles per fill up, $66 or so until you hit AZ and CA whose gas prices are higher. I think we had 9 fillups, but we drove in a national park too, on the way to sightsee, so maybe 10 fillups. But driving in cooler weather helps gas economy and traffic activity. Fyi You can only do 75mph max as it had a governor on it. But with a car in back, that's fast enough really.

Not a single issue with truck or trailer. Dropped back off at a Home Depot here in LA. So if you are looking to rent for a one way cross country, Penske is the way. I highly recommend for peace of mind and safety as their trucks are 2 years old or newer. Ours had 100k miles on it, but ran like a champ. I will always use them in the future.

I turned the truck in later that day and when I saw the receipt it had a CHARGE of the rental & the deposit! When I looked online at my bank account they took the Charged amount that included the deposit so when I called the local office about it she said wait until the next day and see if the deposit gets taken back off. So next day I checked and nothing was refunded. Then I called again to the local office and now they say wait 3-5 business days for a refund.

I started reading reviews about this problem at Penske and the refund wait was either told as 3-5 days to 7-10 days So I called Penske Corp about it. They said I had to wait 7-10 business days! Ok so If I had known how screwed up Penske was on this policy I would have paid cash and gotten my remainder back that day. Penske was quick to take my money that Saturday with the deposit but I dont get why it takes 7-10 Business days to get my deposit back. Penske - If you really value your customers like you say then update your refund policy and process to the 21st century and give the deposit amount due back the day the truck is inspected & turned in. The quote after my reservation was for $34.49 with .79/mile. I had also made reservations prior with Budget Rental (cheaper). I have used U-Haul and Budget in the past, but recommended by a friend I decided to try Penske Truck Rental. The day I was to rent the truck which was July 27, 2019, in order to move locally which again was 4 or 5 miles from the store, it went downhill from there. This Penske is located inside the Home Depot store in Grand Prairie, TX. I was moving within the same city and a local move. After I was asked to make a deposit (which was listed as around $100.00). I was charged $261.25. I immediately ask the representative why was I charged $261.25. She advised it was for the deposit.

Thank Goodness I had brought along my documented reservation printout in detail. She told me she had to contact Penske to see what the issue was. She was told I was charged for a 85 mile move. I told her according to my reservation I was making a local move less than 10 miles. Penske decided to charge from my checking account $261.25 and she had to relay to them the document she had in hand that stated the amount along with my reservation number. She was told that they would refund me within 5-7 days. I advised to her that I needed it back immediately since I had not planned to spend this amount. I had people helping me move waiting. On top of that, after Penske agreed to refund me, I was charged $60.00 after I returned the truck within 3 hours same day back to Home Depot which rent out moving Trucks. This caused major problems with my bank account.

It left me with penalties, not only that but a negative account since I had paid bills prior to that in order to have my apartment home ready. After contacting Penske to complain about the service via online contact. It was an "we apologize" you will be refunded 5-7 days. It took within an hour to charge my account with an error Penske made, but my bank account is in the red due to their error. I regret canceling my Budget Rental or not going back to U-Haul. Penske made little care about the consumer in order to rectify their mistake. I have never had problems with other Truck rentals until this nightmare which I am still affected.

I contacted them twice in detail and all was responded was 5-7 days. Penske doesn't seem to care what the consumer thinks as long as they have taken money from the consumer. I am also disabled and on a fixed income senior citizen. I feel taken advantage of from a company that does nothing to try to provide customer satisfaction. It's as if they could care less. It has been almost two weeks and I have not had any satisfaction from Penske.

Their prices for truck rental and car towing were better than others. The rep I spoke with on the phone initially was very helpful and pleasant to talk to. We did have some difficulty with the car trailer upon pickup but Kathleen at customer service was very helpful. They gave us an even bigger discount and even drove a new car trailer out to our home so we could continue to load the truck which the employee who drove out the new trailer was awesome. Moving is very stressful but these reps for Penske made our day a little more bearable. Thanks Penske.

I rented a 16' truck and trailer for my car from Southern Pines to Blanchards appliances furniture store in Chattanooga, Tn. I returned my truck the night before my due date, could not find drop box was not labeled. Left Southern Pines with 4 gallons short of a full tank did not realize you have to exact on your gas to return truck. So I was charged 8.00 per gallon equals 32.00 dollars plus charged me 100.00 dollars for an additional day. So if you want to throw away an extra 174.00 with tax of course plus the rental charge of 462.00 dollars use these these businesses.

First and only time I will rent from Penske. Rented a 16' one way to move from San Diego to Austin, paid by debit. The whole process went smooth, better price than their competitors, got a brand new 2019 truck that had less than 100 miles on it, no issues the whole trip, easy pickup and quick return. I was quite satisfied with the experience and even told my wife that I'd consider paying a bit more for Penske if we need to rent a moving truck again.

About a month rolls by and I'm looking through my bank statement and see a $40.20 charge from Penske pending... no notification whatsoever, if I had not scanned my bank account I would have not known Penske tacked on an additional charge. After navigating their automated customer service number and explaining the charge, I'm told it's a toll charge they received from the time during my rental. I'm 100% confident I did not pass through any tolls, I intentionally looked up the route I was to take before I made the trip. No tolls. My wife followed behind me on the same route during the move. No tolls were charged to our personal vehicle. In California I traveled a small section of the I15, CA94 and mostly eastbound on the I8... no tolls. Arizona and New Mexico have no tolls within either state.

Texas I traveled east on the I10 across most of the state, then the 290 east to I35 north until the 290 east picks up again, I get off on the last exit before the 290 toll begins after the intersection with the 183. My new apartment is off this exit and explicitly remember thinking about how it was nice to be avoiding the tollway right at my journey's end. I ran the Penske truck's plate through the Texas site that tracks all pass through tolls. No records of a toll with that plate. I run our personal vehicles plates through the same Texas site. No records of toll charges.

I explain this to the rep, who informs me that I need to speak with the 'citations department', gives me a number. That number goes to another company and an automated messages asks for a party's extension and NOTHING follows, just silence... Tried pushing 0 for operator and other numbers and NOTHING. I call back to the customer service number, they transfer me to the same number with the same dead end message. I call back to the customer service a third time, getting upset at this point. The rep is empathetic and transfers me to the 'Austin Division' as this is where I turned in my rental. I get a guy who seems genuinely baffled that my call was transferred to him. He asks me for the invoice number of the charge and I explain that I received none, it was just pulled automatically from my bank account.

I explain further that I don't believe I passed through any tolls and went into detail with what I described above and asked to be sent verification of the charge from whichever state it was supposedly from. He claims he can't see that or access that, though he can see the additional charge on my account. He doesn't know who would be able to do that for me. I'm feeling pretty taken advantage of by this point, as I did a little internet research before my calls and found I'm not the only person that this has happened. The Austin division rep admits there may have been a mistake, another renter may have passed a toll and it was mistaken for my rental period, though he is unsure about this. After a little further back and forth, I can sense he is tired of my now angry banter and reluctantly agrees to refund the $40.20 back to my card on file. He takes my email and says he will send a receipt.

This was about 6 hours ago and I still have not received any email. I'm currently giving him the benefit of the doubt as a chargeback to a debit card can take several business days. We will see. This whole experience of dealing with Penske customer service reps that can provide no customer service, can't access toll billing files to verify for the doubting customer and generally just given the runaround on a unverifiable automatic charge just ruined all goodwill I had for the company. I have rented from 'the other' big name moving company on several occasions for local use and once for a move from college in Iowa City, IA to Chicago, IL and had 0 issues on the many times I've used them. I'll be going back even if Penske has the better deal, this B.S. charge and how I had to fight to get it removed is just shady and apparently I'm not the first. Penske You had a new customer and you killed a new customer.

I recently rented a Sprinter from these people while ours was being repaired. Problem #1 They forgot to give us the vehicle registration. Problem #2 The rented sprinter was in very poor condition with numerous dents. Problem #3 We were hit during the rental period which caused a dent in the side of the van. They used this opportunity to try and swindle the insurance company and sent in claims for all of the pre-existing damage. Problem #4 they continued to charge our credit card for rental of the vehicle for months after we returned it because they claimed it was out of service and being repaired during this entire time. These people are dishonest or incompetent, I would run the other way. Try Rider instead.

Originally we shopped around online and got quotes from different moving companies. After doing the research online we decided not to go with Penske and then we received a call. Great customer service and dedication for reaching out to us. They gave us a competitive and better price than the other options we had. That part was great and effortless as far as setting everything up. Once we got the truck, we loaded it and started our drive. Being military we e moved a few times so from Vegas to Colorado we went. The ride was just awful. Every divot in the road threw the entire truck off track. It’s as if Shocks don’t exist.

The entire 15 hours we were flying out of our seats, spilling drinks, being pregnant this only intensified my nausea. We had to physically stop to drink a cup of coffee. We packed our stuff as we normally have on every move with little to no issue with broken stuff. Not the case. I have dishes inside packing material and dish specific boxes that are broken. A trip that should have taken 12 hours increased due to the extra care we tried to take but still didn’t seem to matter much. My suggestion would be to test drive a truck if you do rent from them. The money you save will cost you in broken items.

SERIOUSLY! DO NOT USE THEIR BUSINESS!!!! Rented a truck to drive cross country from Columbus Ohio. And a Trailer/dolly to pull behind it. The first trailer they gave us was broken so we had to drive a half hour to pick up another one from their location because they refused to drive to us. Then they were on lunch and didn’t tell us so we had to get another one and wait for them to get back. That second one had broken chains so we had to go buy them ourselves out of pocket to use this BS POS dolly.

Thought the truck was leaking oil turns out it was the brake fluid. While on the freeway our brakes went out and we had to exit, and drive around a parking lot until it came to a stop while pushing the brakes the entire time. My wife and I could have died and the car we were pulling could have been destroyed which was the whole point in getting the pull behind dolly. They haven’t offered a refund of any sorts and instead of offering a new truck they sent a mechanic out. So now we have to wait for the mechanic himself to drive an hour and a half round trip to get the part he needs to fix it. Totally putting us off schedule for the trip. Happy and grateful we are okay, no thanks to Penske Truck Rental.

They CLEARLY DON'T CHECK THEIR EQUIPMENT before sending you off with it even if they know you plan on driving across the country. I am beyond upset with their business and truly want everyone to be able to read this and think twice before risking their lives on a brand that clearly isn’t concerned with your wellbeing and happiness!!

We switched from renting trucks from Budget to Penske because we heard great things about the quality of their trucks. Big disappointment! We reserved a one way truck to drive over 2000 miles for our move west several weeks in advance. We arrived to pick up our 16 ft box truck on time, and was told it wasn’t available yet. There were three other 16 ft trucks in the lot, but we were told they were for someone else later that day, and one was “local” rental only. After an hour wait, Penske employees arrived with two trucks from another Penske location. The attendant said “Well, looks like your truck has 99k miles on it”.

I was dismayed and said we are driving over 2000 miles. They said, “Well you can have the other truck, but it looks like it has a bad tire, and you will have to wait for someone to come to change the tire at your house.” They said the bad tire must have happened on the way over. We noticed that the front right part of the box part of the truck had a repair, and we feared water leakage...so, we were told to choose, truck with the bad tire and damage or the one with 99k miles. Already an hour late, with people coming to help us move, and assurances that the folks at Penske look over the trucks before they send them out, we took the truck with 99k miles.

The truck day 1: very poor acceleration and rattling from the front. Day 2: acceleration and rattling continue. Late afternoon we got a strong rainstorm, and all the windows fogged up from the humidity and rain. Defrost, air conditioner, all blew warm air and made it worse. Now, we couldn’t see a thing and needed to put our hazard lights on and crawl to the next exit, frequently wiping the front of the windshield to clean the condensation off. We found a hotel in a small Indiana town, and called Penske customer service who told us the only thing we could do is call roadside assistance. They would come when they could and determine if we needed a new truck. No empathy that it took us all day to load the truck, and how would we unload and reload in the rain?

We called roadside assistance. They told us they would only come to us if we were broken down or had a flat tire. We would have to find the nearest Penske garage for them to look at the air conditioner, but they would never give us a new truck just because of a bad air conditioner, even if the defrost wasn’t functioning. He suggested that maybe the air conditioner froze up, and if we only opened the windows/ used it infrequently, we would be ok. Day 3: driving rain throughout Indiana and Illinois, windows cracked open and rain pouring in, we can see through the windshield, but want to warn you to BEWARE when you rent from Penske!!!

So where to begin? Penske gave us a car carrier to go on a 26 foot truck from Florida to the northeast but the car carrier that was given to us was put in a class of it needed to be repaired. We lost our brakes and the car carrier blew two tires and now Penske isn’t doing anything to help us. Trying to get our vehicle are the moving truck to our final destination. So it is after 1 o’clock in the morning here in Connecticut and we’re being told that Penske will not help. So now it’s going to cost us extra money for a person to drive our other vehicle and pay for another day of this stinking truck because Penske has aired on the side of their so-called preventative maintenance but the carrier was issued to us so the liability is on Penske and I will be filing a suit in federal court.

And I will go after what remedies that are afforded to me as I am a prosecutor in Collier County. To all the other people that I’ve had such bad luck or Penske running a scam on them we should all get into a class action lawsuit. First thing you need to do is cancel your credit card and recoup your charges from Penske that is covered under your credit card issuer. That’s the first one and that’s probably the most that you’ll get for now until you do bring your case to court.

Charged me $264 (33x$8) for returning the truck that they claimed was empty! Since this was my 1st time, I did NOT know anything about truck renting. I just trusted the guy (in SFO) and signed end page of the agreement. They claimed the truck was given as "Full" and was returned (by my driver, who I hired to drive) as "empty"!

Even if this is true, as I never checked by myself. I called multiple times and I cried and begged the Manager (of Minnesota PENSKE) for doing some adjustment - No effect - just like a Robot, she kept saying "NOTHING WE CAN DO IN OUR END!" In Minnesota gas is now ~$2.19/ gallon. I offered to pay $100 for filling up the truck for me and report it as- "FULL" instead as "empty"!

They don't care about the customers and all they care about the money. This was my 1st and definitely last experience with these awful peoples! This was NOT a deliberate or repetitive event. As total layperson I just trusted and signed (probably) the fuel agreement (although I don't see my initial or sign on the paper they gave me in SFO). So with the roads being wet and all the back splash we need the wipers working. We talked to the people at the storage place where we rented the truck from and they said it would defrost once we started driving and we would be fine. 5 hours later they are still frozen so we call the roadside number. When I called Penske rentals corporate office they explained the environmental fee was to recoup cost of disposing of hazmat waste from the engine (oil, etc.)

When asked about the vehicle license recovery fee I was told it was to recoup registration cost for the vehicle. My first thought is, “then just raise the price of the rental, don’t nickel and dime consumers on the back end with “fine print” costs. Rented a truck with a lift gate to help us move. We were able to load just fine. We got to our new place and the lift broke at about 8pm. At 11pm they sent out a guy who tried to fix it. He said he couldn't, the next morning we called again and they sent out someone else, who also could not fix it. In the meantime it was leaking fluid into the driveway. Around 2pm they brought another truck. At this point the movers we had hired had left and me and my husband had to push all of the things in the broken truck across to the new truck... Either the one lift crooked. After all that we were then able to move everything that we had to move from the broken truck into the new truck to be able to unload.

We brought the truck back and they tried to charge us for the time we had it... even though it was due to not being able to unload the truck for almost a full day. They resolved that. Then we discussed the damage to the driveway. They said they would send someone out to clean it. That was fine... Never happened. After a month they said they couldn't get anyone to come out so we have to file a claim. Been working with them for 4 months now and now our adjuster doesn't respond to our requests... Absolutely ridiculous. We had to pay movers that weren't even able to unload a truck. We will be filing on small claims court for a lot more than what we were asking to resolve this. Things break and we get that, but we shouldn't have to deal with all the issues. Penske should have resolved this better. Will never use them again.

They told me that they will get me a new truck in the morning and get the mover to transfer my property over to the new truck. In the morning Penske rep. Got me a new truck and got the mover to move my stuffs to the new truck. I have a lot of wood carvings so I specifically told the mover to put my wood carving stuff on top and wrapped them in the blanket that I had provided. The movers agreed to do exactly what I told them to do. However they did not do what I had told them to do so all my wood carvings and furniture were damaged.

When I got to Petaluma, CA I filed a claim through Penske’s claim department. I was working with Ms. **. Penske hired an Adjustor to come out to inventory my damaged property. The Adjustor gave me a form to file out, listing all of the damaged property, and email or text him back the completed form. I did just that and damaged properties were mounted to $8,200.00 dollars. Penske came back to several weeks later and offered me 4000.00 for my damaged property. I told them no and they bumped it up to 5000.00. Again I said no and they bumped it up to 6000.00. I told them the wood carvings are hard to find because I bought them from Guam and the various islands around it. It would cost me 2500.00 dollars just to take a flight to Guam. I later asked them to bumped it to 7000.00 and I will cut my loss but Penske was firm on their offer. They want me take the 6000.00 and don’t blame them for their carelessness.

I had a great experience with my rental truck. The truck itself was in good shape and very clean, and I was very happy with the great staff that helped me at pick-up and drop-off (different locations). Everything was super easy. I think they are the best rental truck company. I wanted to write a review on here because reviews on these sites are highly skewed, and because I’m really happy with how easy my move was.

I rented the 26 foot Penske for a move from Naples, FL to Mississippi. At the first stop for gas (about 3 hours into the trip) a warning light came on that the truck couldn't go over 5 MPH. My driver called the 1 800 number and was told that the place we picked it up from was supposed to "regenerate" the truck which is apparently something you have to do with diesels. So now my driver sits at a gas station losing time while waiting for the mechanic to come out and regenerate the truck then we were told that he has to stop every several hours during the 20 hour trip to let the truck regenerate and each stop will be 30 45 minutes of him sitting while the truck regenerates. We were never told anything about this.

This is completely unacceptable and is going to end up costing us additional time and money. I have always heard that Penske had superior service and vehicles but clearly that isn't true. Make sure you know what you are getting in to - don't rent from them unless it is the smallest truck for a very very short distance. Even then their service where we picked up the truck is substandard.

A friend called the rental place for me because the truck I had reserved from U-Haul wasn't going to be in the right location. He was told that I should book a truck online because it was cheaper and that they would match the U-Haul quote ($120). Next thing I know, there's a receipt for almost $400 in my email. I called customer service to see if there was any way to get it cheaper and the lady was extremely rude and pretty much refused to talk to me and made it pretty clear that they had my money and I was screwed. I called the number for corporate and was told they couldn't verify it and said they would refund a whole $50. Just looked at the receipt again and realized the online booking discount was never applied either. So, totally screwed and paid 3 times what it would've cost from U-Haul.

WE flew from Chicago to Atlanta to help my sister move very valuable items, China, crystal, antiques etc. that we would not trust to a moving company. We rented a 26 ft truck. 1 1/2 hours after we left Atlanta lights came on the dashboard and it immediately started losing power. We got it 1/2 mile to the next exit and into the first gas station. They came out over an hour later and worked from 5:30 pm until almost 11:00 pm. Could not repair. Told us they would take us to a hotel and they would pay the cost. They towed the truck to a Penske repair center in Chattanooga Tn. We went to the repair center the next morning. They worked until about 3:00 pm and then decided they could not repair it - we had to move everything to another truck. They called a company to come and unload/reload. They were good but it took them almost two hours to get there and three to change out.

We finally left Chattanooga that night. Traveled four hours in the dark through the mountains. Stopped and had to once again go to a hotel. We were told that our hotel would once again be paid for. A two day trip turned into a grueling four days. When it was done and over they reversed the rental of the truck but refused to reimburse hotel rooms that we were told by Penske employees would be paid for. This was the FIRST and LAST time we rent from Penske. We have rented U-Haul and others with NO problems.

The problem with the truck has to do with the new exhaust system. Apparently they do this continually. BUT the repair shop did not have the part needed on hand. Five days to order and get it in. And they call this service?? And then after we were told we would be reimbursed for hotels they refuse?? NEVER AGAIN. I have told anyone and everyone who would listen to never rent from Penske. Everyone said that was very good to know. We are a very trusted family business- in business for 55 years. And NOT treating customers like Penske treated us has KEPT us in business. Word to the wise!!!

I was very skeptical at first because the comments kept saying that the Penske truck break down or they overcharge your card for little things but it was my only option due to my budget. Thankfully my experience was NOT bad. The Penske truck we got was very clean, and well maintained. It was about a 17-19 hour trip and we made it safe and sound. If I have to say anything negative was that it ate a lot of gas but that’s expected. We returned the truck clean and with a full tank. My card was not charged for any extra fees and I was able to transport my home to my new apartment. Thank you Penske. I would definitely recommend it to everyone.

So long story short, My friend is going through a divorce and the house has sold. Today is the day he was scheduled to get his things out of the house. He called and reserved a 26 foot truck last week and they even called a few days ago to confirm his reservation and make sure he was still needing the truck, etc. Then three hours prior to his appointment to pick up the truck, they call and tell him he was bumped by a business and they had no trucks available. Penske does not guarantee personal home moves but they won't tell you that over the phone until you have a complaints. Now after a heated chat somehow all of a sudden a 26 foot truck became available again but what a piss poor way to do business. I drove another 4 miles before it broke down again, this time it was a 7 hour wait alongside the interstate. This time Penske brought a different truck. Because the brakes were not good in this truck, I had to take the long way to Florida. I had the experience with Penske Truck rentals because Budget Truck rentals dropped the ball. I had reserved with Budget some 3 weeks before I needed the 26' truck to make sure I would have it the day I needed to move 3 households into one location. Less than 2 days ahead of this move they called and said they were not going to have the truck. WHAT?!!? So I started calling and hit Penske. Not only did they guarantee they would have that 26' truck available for me, they also had it available closer to where I needed it, and for unlimited miles on a one way rental. Kudos to Kellie at Penske Truck Rental for hooking us up! The day of the return my son was at the gas station trying to fill the truck with the amount of gas it had when he picked it up and he didn't want to go too far over and they could see him at the gas station and even though he was late on the return, they waived the late fees because they could see he was out there filling it up!!!

This company has found a new lifetime customer! Next move will be with Penske and I won't even bother calling anyone else. I highly recommend these guys even though they cost a little more. It's so worth it to not have the added stress of having to worry that there won't be a truck available and the peace of mind knowing that when I go to pick the truck up it will be there and ready to go!! Thanks guys!

First of all, this Penske Truck Rental Acton, Ontario location is a satellite location. There is a full time business there and they rent Penske trucks as a sideline business as well. I live just around the corner from this location so seeing that I had rented from other Penske locations in the past with good results, I saw no reason why I shouldn’t try this location as well.

I dropped by the rental location about a month before I needed the truck and spoke to a very nice woman by the name of Andrea. We made all the necessary arrangements and upon my request to rent a 5 ton truck instead of a cube truck (they only have cube trucks at this location). She said that this would not be a problem and she would have a 5 ton truck brought in for me from Brampton.

I just got off the phone a few minutes ago after calling to confirm my reservation and details. Andrea, unfortunately was not there, otherwise this rental would have moved forward. A grumpy sounding guy answered the phone and when I asked to speak with Andrea, he said that she was not there. When I inquired when she would be back, he replied that she was off for the month.

When I gave him the confirmation number for the reservation and went over the details, he refused to honour it and also informed me that I would also be billed for an extra day, based upon my rental requirements. I said that this was NOT agreed to at all when I spoke face to face with Andrea. I told him the details of my arrangement with Andrea and he refused to budge and he abruptly hung up on me.

I am now forced to rent from another truck rental location under duress hoping that I can find a truck to meet my needs with little time left before the day I need it. I just wish to go on record that anyone in the Acton area wishing to rent a truck, to steer clear of this particular location. They may refuse to honour arrangements made prior to the date the truck is needed and they may try to extra bill you also.

While I appreciate the 10% discount, I learned that Penske dropped the truck off at my pick up location, which means it was in their hands before. I was appalled that they did not do anything about the case on dead bugs covering the windshield nor the filth in the back of the truck. Interior of cab stinks, has what appears to be coffee spills on floor & seats & was overall disgusting. Thanks but no thanks Penske, I'll stick with U-Haul from now on.

We rented a 26’ reefer for harvesting from the Penske Tallahassee Florida office. Two weeks in, the transmission failed on our first truck. We were stranded an hour out from home. Penske brought a replacement the next day. The replacement truck’s reefer blew a fuse and fan a week later. We called SOS and a technician replaced and repaired that. Two days later during harvest another fuse blew. SOS was called and an hour later it was repaired. We immediately drive to the packing house per the SOS technician instructions. Half way to the packing house we received “alt-aux” error and the reefer shut down. Each of these shut downs resulted in a rise in temperature. We called SOS again. They GPS tracked us to the packing house and home. A technician came out at 9pm and said everything was running fine.

The Tallahassee office, after hearing the reefer was running fine, chose to classify our report as fraudulent. The Tallahassee office then dispatched a recovery team to pick up the vehicle at 1am without notifying us. We had harvest supplies in the truck. We contacted them Sunday and requested the return of our supplies and they did return them by 4pm. Monday Penske contacted us to inform us we are banned from future rentals due to fraud. This adds insult to injury because of the failure of Penske equipment, we lost over $15000 worth of product. We were not going to use them anyway, but to ban us when all matters were due to Penske equipment failure is at a minimum UN-professional.

So for a few weeks now I have been paying insurance on a truck that is not even in my name/possession yet! I would not recommend buying anything used from Penske as this is ridiculous. Did I also mention that I also live a few miles down the road from their offices in PA? Where I have told them multiple times that I can just come in to sign/verify things in person if needed.

Case in point. Very disappointed in a man who company I once worked for (Roger Penske) 20yrs ago who was centered on customer service to now a company that doesn't care about customers, just $. Even his corporate accounts don't matter. The ones that rent 15 to 30 trucks a month. We will be changing our account. I have never worked with such an awful business. No integrity. A bunch of deflectors and liars. Penske stated it takes 3 to 5 days for deposit return. It’s been over a week. I see so many bad reviews of this company. I had a different result. I shopped around, U-Haul, Budget and Penske. Penske was 2/3 the cost of U-Haul. I went to look at the trucks before the move and found the 16 foot to be more than enough for my move but it was the smallest I could get with the car carrier. I picked up the truck on my move date. The truck had 66k miles on it with a new car carrier. It was clean and had a few dings but nothing unexpected. The tires were new, the fluids topped off. The rep made sure I understood everything on the truck, adjusted the mirrors and helped me load my car (There is a good video on YouTube to explain how to do it.).

Truck drove fine the whole trip with the occasional transmission revving too high when going up or down a hill with the button for the tow/haul engaged. I would just hit the button, the gear would change and then I would re-engage the button. The only downgrade for the truck is it didn't have any way for me to charge my phone. Constantly running the maps drained the phone battery but that isn't the fault of Penske. I wasn't thrilled with the gas mileage but that is the way of trucks. I averaged between 8-9 MPG on a 1600 mile one way trip.

The drop off spot was perfect and secure. The rep allowed me to store the truck there for a day while I removed my car and looked for an apartment. I really didn't want to drive around a metro area looking for an apartment with a truck and car carrier. It isn't easy making corners, you are fighting with traffic and lights. Also, unscrupulous rental agent would see the truck with a carrier as a sign of desperation and possibly charge more rent. The rep from Penske even recommended some people to assist me with moving in. I would use them again and I would recommend them to others.

This last trip I went one was the worst customer service experiences that I have ever had from Penske, I have to start by saying, I requested this truck three months in advance, I had SPECIAL requests and needs for this move. On your customer service line it says all customers have unique needs and Penske promises to meet all those unique individual needs. SO that being said, My special minor request were simple... I requested the newest Highly maintained truck possible, I requested that it was NOT a FORD, I’ve had bad luck with them, I requested AIR RIDE for AIR BREAKS, I requested 6 dozen pads, I requested low miles vehicle, with all fluids topped off. These were my needs, and a car hauler, and Two wheeler dolly.

WELL let me tell you... I get to the pick up location in TILTON HOME DEPOT, TILTON NH, Where I am stopped in my tracks when I see the OLDEST truck in the FLEET, the trailer was good. But listen to this... No pads, not swept out, fuel was minus a tiny bit, but worst of all There was NO AIR RIDE, and THIS TRUCK HAD MAXIMUM MILES TO PENSKE STANDARD. WHAT HAPPENED??? I came back the next day another two hours because I thought maybe they would give me a different truck. Ok, The lady overseeing that Home Depot, the CENTER overlooking it, laughed in my face. Said, “Sorry get what you get.”

The total was ranging in the $3,000 range because I was going to California from Vermont, the MOST miles you can go with a truck. SO... The lady tells me over the phone laughing is what it is basically, I paid cash, now keep in mind the lady at the Home Depot now said, “Ok, Cash will be a Hundred dollar deposit,” I pulled out another hundred. SO I take this truck, I drive almost 3500 Miles. So going over the Colorado Rockies this truck ate up so much gas, also NO DEF is ILLEGAL IN CALIFORNIA PENSKE. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. So I use twice as much as budgeted in fuel, I go thru deserts, and mountains...worst fuel mileage I have ever had in any rental EVER! Sooo It gets better. ENGINE overheats every few hours. Even when I turned off the AC for miles.

SO I get to the delivery, I go to return the truck, and the agent tells me There’s NO PROOF of my $100 deposit. SO THEY NEVER GAVE ME BACK MY DEPOSIT, after I fueled it all the way back up. WORST RENTAL EXPERIENCE of my life. I am truly disappointed Penske, I am going to tell everyone how pathetic this was for you to do this to me. A PAYING LOYAL CUSTOMER. I asked for special needs on this one . I will never rent from you again . Costed me hundreds of dollars in fuel Penske. So let’s recap… My special needs that were not met. No furniture pads whatsoever. High miles on vehicle when I requested low miles. Worst fuel economy no DEF which is illegal in California. No air ride. No air breaks. Not swept out. Horrible customer service. Refused to refund me my $100 deposit.

This is all pretty serious Penske, NOT just for my contract, but for the hundreds of people that will see this post, I may even pay for a newspaper ad and tell my community. I HAVE BEEN SCREWED SO HARD BY YOU. You lost me as a customer. Learn to train your team in customer service skills. YOU ARE lacking big time. I CALLED SIX TIMES on RECORD to follow up to make sure you gave me the best truck possible for this long trip. Documented. But I guess my hundred bucks wasnt documented huh. My one piece of the puzzle is now a snowball effect for losing customers. I know a lot of movers, and a lot of business owners, this was your biggest mistake yet. Thanks for the ** service and for ripping me off!!! Regretfully your last rental from me. Get your ** together!!!

From start to finish, Penske made my move as smooth as possible. I rented a 16" truck and tow dolly. Since parking near my apartment complex would've been near impossible, I asked if I could pick up the tow dolly right as I was driving out. They added it to the notes on the account and agreed. When I went to pick up the dolly, it was gone. There was only a car carrier (which is typically more money). But Penske let me rent the carrier for the price of the tow dolly.

Then, unfortunately the truck had a leak in the corner (of course it poured as I was packing) but I worked around it with some towels and only putting my plastic storage bins in that corner. On the 4th day of driving across country, it rained again and the wipers were terrible. Luckily there was a nearby truck stop where we purchased new wipers. We let Penske know about the leak and the wipers and they were happy to give us a reimbursement. I will gladly use Penske for all of my future truck rental needs and I highly recommend them as a quality company who cares for their customers.

Rented a truck and car hauler from a CO Penske site for a move to CA. Truck and trailer looked to be in good condition so I checked out and drove away. After loading the truck and car I took off on my 2 day journey to CA. Was 2 hours into the move and the front steer tire blew up and shredded. Fortunately for me I was climbing a steep grade in UT and the truck was grossly under powered so couldn't top more than 30MPH when the tire blew almost ripping my arm off trying to control it to the side of the road.

Upon inspection of the tire I noticed that the tread on the both tires was non-existent and the steel belts were showing through almost the entire circumference of both tires. Clearly a DOT violation at least in the CDL world. Had I been descending a grade I am positive I would not have been able to control the truck and trailer and would have crashed. Can't help but wonder what liability Penske has for allowing a vehicle to dispatch with such a clear safety violation as any CDL vehicle would have been cited and forced to park had an inspection occurred by a highway patrol or scale location.

The inspection sticker was several years out of date as well which also makes me wonder if they are following the DOT requirements. I will be reaching out to my DOT contacts and possibly pursuing legal action to the negligence on their part for allowing a vehicle to dispatch with such a blatant safety issue. On a positive note the 24/7 line was quick to help and the company they dispatched to fix the tire was top notch.

Upon pickup 22 ft truck wasn't ready so I got a 26 and DEF fluid was below 1/4 of a tank. Fuel wasn't full either. Truck broke down in NM. Things happen but, the location took forever for diagnostics and they determined that the truck could be fixed. Load change to another truck was a disaster. They hired another company which were not professionals at all. That stacked heavy items on small items. On top of that they wanted me to sign a form to relate liability for moving the items. We ended up doing it ourselves.

Truck they gave us required 4 fill ups in a day as opposed to the other truck which was once a day increase the cost of fuel which we booked with Penske because of the newer trucks and diesel fuel. Have contacted Penske to make it right on 6/21, 6/22, 6/24 and 6/26. Was promised phone call back from Roger and Roger has yet to return it. This would be my second bad experience with Penske. On May 31st at the Las Vegas Hacienda location an employee named Morgan assist me in getting my rental truck and car dolly. I did the paperwork and he put the dolly attach to the rental truck. Then he told me to drive my car onto the dolly. Morgan strapped on my car himself which I witness (not using the chains to strap on) and check out the straps and told me we were good to go. So my journey was to get from Las Vegas to St. Louis, MO in one piece. What happens next is shocking.

Once I got to Hays, Kansas I was pumping gas and my car was attach. An hour and half later in Salina, KS I get out and my car vanished. So I made some phone calls including the Kansas State Troopers and they tell me it fell off at a bridge 14 miles off of Hays and that the autobody shop tow it to their location. I called the autobody shop but it was closing time so had to wait till the next day. I also call Penske roadside service to file a claim on their end.

The next day I go to the Salina Penske and they inspect the dolly which was in good shape. I tell them what happen and they told me that the Penske in Las Vegas was suppose to give me a video, manual and that it was my responsibility to hook up my car which in Vegas they never did and took it upon themselves to hook it up. After going to the Penske in Salina and finally learning how to hook up my car by them describing how, I drove 93 miles backwards to the autobody shop in Hays Kansas and was lucky it was still driveable and that the damages which now amount to over $6000 were on the outer surface of my car. I after paying the impound fee got my car on the dolly and not only strap it but chain it up also and that day on 3 hour later drove all the way to St. Louis.

Once I got in St. Louis, started not only trying to get estimates on my car but it was hell in some ways trying to get a hold of the district manager of Penske to talk to us, but we did. We also called Penske's claim department and told them bit by bit what happened. After a week later Penske finally got their adjuster to come out to inspect my car. Also by this time the one who originally was suppose to handle the claim got in touch with us. We email back and forth and show him documentation of the estimate and other cost associate with my car. The trouble was when I got back into St. Louis I need my car for work, not to just drive for work but it was suppose to be use as what I needed to work so I was without making money.

So to fast forward today on 6/19/17 I had a long chat with the person who was handling the Penske claim and it didn't go in my favor, in fact the complete opposite. The Penske employee named Morgan confess based on Penske he didn't not strap on my car when in fact he did. Morgan also did not tell me about the video or manual. Morgan took it upon himself to strap on the car himself. Now I am finding out if the Penske place in Vegas has a camera there both in front of their store and inside to document this situation to show proof he did as I said. When your Penske employee lies that's not a good sign. Either he forgot or is saving face from losing his job or doesn't want to get demoted. Either case I am getting screwed from his lie.

Also the person who was handling Penske claim said that nothing happen for the first 1100 miles of my drive but then falls off in Kansas. I did not touch the Penske dolly the whole time nor was I told by Morgan to check the straps either at when he strap on the car. The only thing I did when I was park at a motel was get in my car to get the keys out since it was in neutral and couldn't do so when it in this position, so every evening when I was parked put my car in park and took the keys out but never touch the dolly. In the morning I would put the keys back in and put car in neutral.

I am truly so piss off of this situation. I would think Penske with all that I have shown would help me out better but they let me rot in the dust. I wish Penske would train their employees efficiently because this is not right on their part and that I should get compensated as a result. One very unsatisfied customer indeed.

I rented a small truck for a one way haul for some couches on April 14, 2017. We picked it up at a Home Depot location and it was filthy. We also were charged a $100 deposit, which we were never told about. I even went back to the website and my reservation confirmation email, there is nowhere even in the fine print, that states you will be charged a deposit. U-Haul places a hold on your account and only charges you when it is dropped off. They charged me over $200 for a 30 mile trip. I had the truck for a three day rental a returned it on April 15th, the drop off location was closed that Saturday, probably because it was Easter weekend. I called Penske the following Monday asking about the refund of my deposit. They said it would take 14-21 business days to refund to my debit card. It never did, so I called them again, and they said they were sending a check. Which was funny because I never gave them an address before. Red flag.

I called every week since. I have been getting the runaround every Friday that a check has been sent. I have emailed, live chatted and requested a corporate number so I can talk to someone in charge. They gave me a corporate call center. I Call Center. That can't do anything, they don't even communicate with one another. I talked to someone named Jeremy who told me he was the call center's supervisor. He constantly shut me down and would not let me speak. He said it did not matter what happened to me before I spoke to him, that I had HIS WORD that he would send a check via FedEx. That was two weeks ago, so I assume it's on an island somewhere with Tom Hanks, because I still don't have it.

I called them again, today and got the same damn runaround and that no record of a check had been mailed. I am at my wit's end. I only used them to save $14 using my AAA card, so obviously if I used them to save $14 the $100 is a whole lot more important to me and my kids? This company is a scam. I wish I had done more research but seriously it's a rental truck I didn't think I would need to. It should be pretty cut and dry. It has been a stressful irritating 7 weeks. I just want my refund, is that too much to ask? And to stop being lied to. Has anyone ever actually gotten their money back? Or is this company a complete scam?

My experience with this company has been less than ideal, after a purchase of a truck with Penske. I purchased the truck with a Standard warranty of roughly $2,000.00 USD; while I know that any "pre-existing conditions" are not covered under warranty, Penske should have taken responsibility for the Truck I was sold. I had to take the truck to the manufacturer for repairs of said "pre-existing conditions". Penske at this point said they would no longer take the truck back for repairs.

After a back and forth (mainly one-sided) correspondence with Penske representatives, no proper resolution has been made. Their final answer has been that I should have read the fine print in the warranty; although after thoroughly reading the warranty there is no mention of fault on my end. I have recently received a check from them that covers approximately 1.3% of my troubles; which makes me neither happy nor convinced that they are taking my complaint seriously. To make matters worse I just received an invoice for all the damages in said truck totaling $5,200.

I had the worse experience with Penske on 5/7/17!! Let me start at the beginning. I rented a 22 foot truck going long distance and when I left the place, the truck immediately was losing power and shaking. I turned back around to the location in Greensboro North Carolina to inform the guy this was happening. He tells me this is normal for a diesel vehicle, not knowing that I have a CDL and I have drove commercial vehicles that require diesel fuel and this is not normal!!! But he is adamant that it has to do with diesel and once I get going and driving at a higher speed this should not continue. So I proceeded (which I should not have BIG MISTAKE) to my POD to load the 22 foot Penske truck. It still did the same thing, the truck was losing power and it was shaking.

I called customer service to inform them of the situation, at this point I'm in Virginia. I have to wait for a service guy to come out which I was told would take 70 minutes which ended up being longer than that. The service guy/mechanic gets there, I ask "Are you going to get in or drive the truck so you can see it's losing power and shaking?" He informs me that no he will just follow me and he should be able to tell that I'm losing power and the speed it drops to!! Now I'm not a rocket scientist and I wasn't born yesterday but driving behind me you can actually tell the exact speed that it drops to, losing power and the vehicle shaking, THAT'S BS!! Why the mechanic did not get into the vehicle. I don't know but he proceeds to tell me that his shop is only 8 miles up the road, while I've been sitting here for over 70 minutes waiting and your shop is 8 miles up the road. What the hell!!!

Get to the shop he still never drives the truck, all he did is hook it up to a little black box and says "Oh, nothing showed up and let me call Penske to see what they want me to do." He says Penske said just get back on the road, REALLY even though the truck is losing power and is shaking and I'm driving long distance from NC to Ohio with a 22 foot truck through the mountains!! To top it off the mechanic tells me all of this is NORMAL for these type of trucks to lose power, down to 45 mph which is a bunch of BS!! So I get back on the road and the truck still continues to shake and lose power throughout the whole trip.

I called back customer service to let them know I am still having a problem with this truck and it's a hazard and dangerous when you have a flow of traffic that at some point going 65 mph to 70 mph and all of a sudden the truck am in loses power and it starts to drop to 40-45 mph. The guy on the phone tells me well I could pull over again and wait for service guy to come out, I don't have this it do, to be told more BS!!! No thank you!! This trip was supposed to be seven hours, this trip took over 10 hours!! Ridiculous and unacceptable. So I guess since I'm a female and I'm telling you the truck is losing power they don't seem to take it serious and think it's a big deal!!!

I finally made it to Ohio, by the grace of God!!! I call Penske on 5/6/17, to explain the horrible experience that I had driving long distance with your truck!! The guy of course apologizes because when you're providing customer service that's the protocol. But didn't seem to get that I should be compensated in some way for the inconvenience. Keep in mind I have rented trucks several times from Penske and didn't have any problems!! He says, "Well I could take off $75.00, which is taking off 25% since you already received 22% off having AAA/using a code off-line!!" Wait a minute, this was with no issues, no problems and no inconvenience!!! So to me this was the ultimate slap in the face your 25%!!!

Then he kept asking me, "Well what do you think is fair?", so I threw it back on him, "What do you think is fair if this was someone you knew, a family member or yourself that experience this, what would you do???" He says "Well I can take off another $25 which is a total of $100 being taken off!!!" Then he asked "Well is this fair?" It's not a question if it's fair, the question is what is the right thing to do if someone has experience something like this!! I get things happen but for Penske to downplay the situation and the severity of a truck losing power, is unacceptable.

The bottom line is Penske YOU DROP THE BALL!!!! If I could have had another company bring me a truck, I would have gladly unloaded the Penske truck and left it on the side of the road, this is how bad the truck was driving!!! I am leaving this comment/review because I do not want, (especially a female) to go through or anyone else renting a truck, especially long-distance, to experience this. I will NEVER USE PENSKE TRUCK RENTAL AGAIN!!!! Terrible experience.

I purchased a company that unfortunately leased Penske trucks and trailers. Penske will only lease to you if they can draw the payments directly from your account (ACH) so they can charge you anything they want for "damage". I have been around the truck and equipment business for 25 years and one thing I have learned is that trucks break. It just happens but to Penske everything is damage. I just had a truck break a drive shaft. The truck is an automatic and was on dry roads. We were hauling 47,000lbs. Well within the 80,000 gross the equipment is rated when the truck shifted into 3rd gear it broke. To me and all the truck shops that I talked to this just happens but to Penske it is damage due driver error.

Michelle ** the operations manager for Penske Reading lied to me and said my driver told her he was stuck in a snow bank. When I called her out on the lie she admitted that she lied and that she just heard being stuck can break a drive shaft then they tried to take 2,000 from my account for that repair. The trailers are about 9 years old and the wood floors are starting to rot but to Penske their wood never rots (if I had the secret to this I would sell it and be a very rich man) so everything that happens to them is damage.

They told me that they have an "expert" look at it and it's damage when we get a hole in the floor because we overloaded it. I can guarantee that expert has never seen any of my loads or has any idea as to how much we haul. So I stopped the ACH payment and sent them a check for the legitimate amount but that is not good enough so they sent District Manager Brian ** to threaten me that I am in breach of the contract and their attorney will attack me.

I said, "Can't you call the Home depot and verify the A/C is not working." I'm an independent trucker and last week my truck broke down. I had to rent a commercial truck tractor to complete the delivery of the load I was hauling. I called the Penske office in Pensacola, Fl. and after making sure that my truck's towing and repairs were properly scheduled, I went to the Penske location to get the rental. Because it was my first time renting a commercial truck from them, I had to leave a deposit of $5000.00 over and above the cost of the rental. Four days later I returned the rental to their location in Mobile, Al. which is where my truck was towed for repairs. I had to check in to a hotel until it was fixed, and I was relying on the $5000.00 deposit being returned to my account so I could pay for my repairs when they were completed.

A couple of days passed with no reimbursement so I called the Mobile office and they explained it would take a few days to process, and I would see the funds returned by then. I waited four days with no refund and started calling both offices for an answer. Now I was told a check would be mailed to my residence and I should see it in the mail in a few days. I asked why they didn't just return it to my account and was told this is their procedure. That's not what I was told initially! This sounded like a stall tactic to me so I decided to call their corporate office in Reading, Pa. I told them my story and they said it had to be handled by the original office in Pensacola. So they weren't very helpful. At that point I was convinced that they were going to hold onto my deposit for as long as possible.

I know this situation probably only applies to commercial rentals, and the average consumer may not need to leave a deposit. But just because I own my equipment doesn't mean I'm made of money. That deposit put a massive strain on my being able to pay for operating expenses and the repairs to my truck. Small business that are close to the edge of losing their business, can be pushed over the edge by situations like this. I hope I never find myself in this position again. If I do, at least I wouldn't be a first time commercial renter with Penske and wouldn't be subjected to the deposit, but I would caution anyone else to expect waiting for your reimbursement a long time. And maybe shop around for a company that doesn't have that policy.

When I asked what the delay was they kept giving me excuse after excuse. I inspected the truck and found minor damages that they fixed. I used the truck locally for over 2 weeks and it was running fine. On my first trip away from Miami, I was traveling to Orlando, Florida, the truck broke down and would not start. I had to tow the truck to a repair shop were they informed me that the DPF filter was too clogged and the regen system could not work properly. They informed me that this filter gets clogged around 280k-300k miles. My truck has 304k miles. He said it had not regened properly in quite a while.

I remember asking the maintenance supervisor Robert what the delay was in getting me the truck because I noticed a weird smell like fumes when I went to inspect the truck. He said nothing was wrong and that I picked a great truck since this one DID NOT HAVE A DPF SYSTEM. I truly believe that they were aware of the damage to the DPF filter. Penske says they are not responsible because it's been over 2 weeks since the purchase date. The repair cost is over 3k plus I'm already out almost 1k between the tow and the cost of being broken down in the middle of nowhere. Use them for rentals but for purchases beware! I purchased from Penske because they offer maintenance records and have their own shops and are supposed to be reliable. At the end of the day they should be considered as any other truck dealership, they need to sell trucks and will screw you if possible!

My sister rented a truck from a Penske agent on ward rd. In Arvada, Co for me to drive her belongings to Virginia. We began our trip and before we made our first fuel stop we had three warning lights and a message saying warn engine. After my sister and I agreed with Penske to drive to Salina Kansas over 200 miles where we would stop for the night and they had a mechanic. We pulled into Salina about 11pm and fueled up again. When we started the truck it said stop engine with all the same lights on. The truck had just enough power to pull out of the way at the gas station. Penske sent a runner about 11:30pm to take us to our hotel. We saw the mechanic before we went to the hotel and it was agreed with the mechanic that he would drop off the keys at the front desk when the repairs were completed.

At 7am my sister picked up the keys at the front desk and we drove just far enough to get stranded on the side of the highway about 15 minutes out. After a phone call to Penske they said the mechanic wasn't done with repairs, so why did he leave the keys at the front desk without even a note. We waited on the edge of the highway in Kansas for repairs a little over an hour. We got back on the road all the lights were off so we were excited to get this behind us and finish our drive. We made it to Kentucky before the same warning lights were back on. We once again agreed with Penske to drive to our hotel that we had booked in Tennessee.

We made it there and the mechanic that came out said it would have to go to the Penske shop. In the morning we took the truck to be repaired, three hours later it was ready to roll. We left for Virginia to finish the last leg of the trip. It wasn't too long before the same lights came on the dash. We finished our trip thankfully. When Penske got their truck to the shop they said we filled up the def tank with diesel fuel. We never touched the def and besides the diesel nozzle is bigger than the def filler hole. You'd have to be a half wit or less to make that happen.

Long story short Penske is calling us liars saying that we put the diesel fuel in the def tank and the repairs are on us unless we can prove it wasn't us that put the diesel in the def. They are unwilling to investigate the true reason the diesel was in the def. They just want to pin the repairs on somebody because it's easier to close it this way than to know the real reason. Penske found their scapegoat now they don't have to care about their small customers. Penske is threatening to ruin my sister's credit because they are going to send this matter to collections.

Penske is an unscrupulous company. I don't know how they're still in business obviously not because of their support for the little guy. What happened to customer service? I will take every avenue to make sure this doesn't happen to anyone else. Unfortunately I doubt I'll even have an impact, if I could save just one person from the crap Penske has put us through then it's worth it.

We would typically handle this situation the correct way by contacting Penske directly and speaking with management, but it is not possible to find those direct numbers, so here we are putting this out there for the whole world to view. We own a local moving company in the Central Florida area and we actually have a commercial account with Penske that has spanned several years. We're not Penske's largest account by any means, but we have used them often and had established some fairly reasonable commercial pricing.

On December 23rd, 2016 we were in Daytona Beach on a big job when we realized that we needed an additional vehicle to transfer some items 60-70 miles back to our home base of Orlando, so we were in search of a small 17' truck early that morning. After checking with a few different places and Penske competitors we came upon a corporate Penske owned shop that was open early and requested pricing. At this point in time we were desperate to find a vehicle and this location had one that was available right then, which was great. What wasn't great was the PRIDE the rental agent took in sticking us with a $600.00 bill to transfer this truck 60 miles for a one day rental. We attempted to explain that we were a commercial customer and had an account with them but this lady was bound and determined to stick it to us 2 days before Christmas and there was no negotiating with her.

We accepted the vehicle because we had no choice at this point, but we left their property with a nasty taste in our mouths and the realization that we had just gotten completely price gouged... Again, 2 days before Christmas! Way to stick it to a returning customer Penske! We will not be renting from Penske ever again because we don't do business with scammers!!

Rented a truck from them and got down the road and had a flat. Turns out Penske left a foreign object in the tire and didn't replace it. We then were responsible for replacing a 600.00+++ tire that they failed to fix earlier. They will stick it to you!! They say their calls are recorded but cannot verify information I was told to do. Was told to return the old tire by their roadside assistance and we did so along with someone signing for it. They also require you to return the semi truck back to where you rented it unlike some other rental companies. Therefore you must drive hundreds of miles to return it and are out hundreds of dollars more on the rental.
