I was very disappointed that after I committed to Travel Insured, recommended by USAA Member Travel, the insurance policy recommended by Viking Cruise Lines, was not only several $hundred cheaper but included better coverage on several important line items. I have been with USAA for 54 years and trusted that any product they recommended would be competitive. So, color me ashamed and disappointed.

When we were on vacation the hotel staff went on strike. I had travel insurance but they say it does not cover strikes. I paid for a vacation with certain amenities and I was not given all of those amenities because of the strike but according to Travel Insured there is no travel insurance that will cover staff going on strike.

I've been skeptical of travel insurance and whether it would cover an event. I'm a frequent traveler (long-time United Global Services or 1K flyer). I scheduled a unique, complicated vacation trip over a year in advance (lots of non-refundable reservations), and just before traveling, my wife broke her leg. Luckily, I had purchased travel insurance through a carrier related to USAA for the first time. I diligently put together a complete document package for Travel Insured (the carrier).

I was surprised to have an initial reimbursement made within 1 1/2 weeks, with the remainder coming within four weeks. There were no gotcha's or convoluted fine print: the request for documentation was reasonable and straightforward. My only issue was with their website. However, I called customer service, and they gave me an email address and said send the documents using it. Perfect solution. I won't hesitate to use them again - I trust them, and it was well worth the cost.

You get better coverage if you have just booked the trip than if you wait longer.

This rating is based on the quality of the coverage at a reasonable price and ease in setting up the policy. We've used them multiple times now due to an aging parent and the fact that we are a little older now and may need medical evacuation from a foreign country. We also like the fact that they are approved by USAA. Of course, the real test of a travel insurance company is in how well they handle an issue or a claim. Fortunately, over past few years with 2-3 international trips per year, we have not had to use their services. However, based on their affiliation with USAA we have confidence in their services.

This was the first time I purchased from Travel Insured International, and I was happy with the purchase. It was easy to get information on the different travel insurance options and to eventually purchase the insurance. I was impressed with what was offered considering the affordable price. It turned out our flight was delayed, resulting in my family missing the connecting flight. We were able to reschedule the connecting flight but had to pay significantly more for the changed flight.

Later in the trip, my daughter got sick where we had to see a local doctor. I was nervous about making the claims for the delay and medical expenses (because I always dread insurance claim processes in general). But the process went smoothly. The company requested more information, which was not unexpected. Once I submitted the additional information, the claim was approved and paid in about a week. I plan to purchase from them again the next time I have a big trip.

While I was not thrilled with the paperwork and need for doctors to sign off on everything, (as I assume all insurers would require the same) - once received, they paid immediately. Well I just returned from Greece and my luggage was damaged on one of the flights. Aegean refused to honor the damage as I did not report it within 7 days. Their website was so horrible. I could not find a form to report it and finally had to reach out to customer service and that was their answer - you did not report. Oh might I mention I got covid and was trying to fill out the damage claim. So I had bought insurance from Travel Insured international which covered baggage. So I filled out the claim. Of course, they came back with another list of things they wanted beyond the original. I submitted those. Now they came back with another list of things they want. I mean, really? I sent the flight info, luggage tags, pictures of the damaged luggage with a 9" split and they want more.

I can see they will come up with an excuse to not pay. The latest was paperwork from a luggage repair shop for an estimate on the repair! So I am on vacation in Greece and I am supposed to drag this broken piece of luggage somewhere for repair?? Horrible experience and will not use them again. If I can't get paid for a piece of luggage, they most certainly will not pay for anything else without a major hassle.

Premiums seem somewhat inflated for value of coverage. I'd be willing to self insure (accept more personal financial risk) with a higher deductible or only partial trip coverage up to a specified limit/amount. Another option might be let consumers choose to exclude airfare (most carriers provide credit or reimbursements for cancellations or delays). MULTI TRIP COVERAGE: I frequently don't plan trips more than 1 month in advance. A multi-trip travel insurance coverage plan should be developed that would cover me up to specified limits for X number of trips (e.g 5-10 trips over a one year or longer period). Higher risk countries/itineraries could be excluded. For example, I would like to be able to purchase coverage for five trips (up to 30 days each) with the same maximum limits (trip cost, airfare, medical evacuation and other specified benefits) for up to five trips to any covered location/destination.

Advance notice of travel dates should be forwarded to insurer within 10 days of actually booking air travel, cruise cabin, or contract date for sponsored group travel (e.g. with Overseas Adventure Travel and similar companies) for each of the five trips. Destinations must be specified to insurer 24 hours prior to first leg of any trip. There should be no requirement to pre-book all trips at the time multi-trip coverage is purchased. If a traveler purchases coverage for 5 trips and fewer than 5 are taken over the specified period (e.g. 1-2 years), there should be no refund of premium. Trips longer than 30 days would require purchase of a rider or addendum. It appears Travel Insurance companies have not adequately considered products to better reflect travel preferences and habits of many travelers.

I bought travel insurance in June 2023 for my upcoming trip to Israel in October 2023. It was obviously interrupted because of Hamas committing acts of terrorism. Travel Insured sent me an email on Sunday, October 8, stating it was terrorism and that their supplier, Farmers Insurance, would cover it. Their website also stated that any insurance bought for Israel before October 10 would be covered but that they were no longer going to ensure Israel going forward. I submitted all of the documents and took a lot of time doing it, even consulting with the travel company. Angie, the rep who reviewed my claim, denied it without giving any good explanation or without telling me what documentation I needed. I immediately contacted the owner of the tour company, Brad **, who sent additional documentation the very next day.

I did not hear anything for two weeks. I finally got an appeal letter from Travel Insured with a rejection after reviewing Brad‘s documentation. I never appealed formally as of yet, so I was shocked to get this letter. I called Jenn **, who owns a travel company here in the Pittsburgh area, because she sold me this policy. She has been trying to work with her rep at Travel Insured named Mike for months now. She even got Mike and Brad on a three way call in order to try to figure out how to move this claim forward. According to Mike, apparently it is the semantics. Brad forwarded a new letter around Thanksgiving time and since then, there has been no response. Jenn has tried repeatedly to talk with Mike and we are all very frustrated.

This company claims they are dependable, but they are anything but that. They have shown no moral standards whatsoever. I would never do business with them again. There are several of us on this trip to Israel who are out $5000. Please don’t use this company because they don’t deserve your business. I am also going to turn them into the Connecticut Insurance Commission along with The Better Business Bureau. They will do anything they can to not pay what they owe you.

Traveled to Peru and Galapagos. I came down with Covid halfway through the trip and had to isolated and did not get to participate in the Galapagos trip. Travel Insured would not cover the "trip interruption" because I did not go to a doctor in Peru to apparently confirm I had Covid. I had taken the home test that was positive, I was extremely ill, I had to isolate from the travel group but they wanted me to go to a doctor's office in a foreign country when I was so sick? Makes no sense. When I got home, I went to the doctors to confirm I had Covid and sent in that paperwork but even that was not good enough for them. DO NOT use this company.

My initial flight was delayed by 55 mins causing a knock-on effect, missing my connection to London and final flight to Bangkok. I had to buy a second ticket to fly to Bangkok a day late, costing $1573. They deemed my claim a 'Travel Delay' and sent me $300. I paid $149 for this insurance. I returned their check, contacted the NC Department of Insurance and before the DOI could contact them, they sent me a second check for $300. I'm returning this check also. Their 51 page explanation of benefits doesn't match their online claim options. So you'll think you're covered for "100% payment on un-used, non-refundable expenses" but you're not because they'll deem it a 'Travel Delay' which pays a max of $300. PLEASE, DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DON'T USE THEM.

They took over 3 months to finalize the claim and did everything they could to not pay the claim - not returning phone calls, not following up, asking for the same information two or three times, asking for additional excessive information that they just kept adding to the list as time went on (I provided a paid in full invoice, but they needed a bank statement showing that the money was actually taken out of the account, then asked for additional verification from the camp that I paid for the camp), asking for irrelevant information like asking me for plane tickets - twice- for a trip that did not involve airfare.

Finally after three months it was paid. The camp is considering dropping them as an insurance carrier because of how bad it was. I will steer clear in the future.

They advertise "trip interruption" as being able to file a claim if "you have to start your trip late," but when I tried to file a claim for that, the customer service admitted that actually I can only file a claim once my trip has started, therefore not if I have START my trip LATE which by definition would mean that I would have to file a claim/have a qualifying event BEFORE the START date.

This patently false claim that you can file an interruption claim if you have to START your trip LATE is the main way the benefit is advertised all over their quote pages and other promotional material and also in their description of benefits. So either they can honor what's advertised or they will continue to falsely advertise, but multiple CS agents told me they will just continue to falsely advertise and won't even compensate me for paying them based on fraudulent claims. Below is part of my recent email to the company. They responded that they understood my frustration, but that what they require is “standard” for all insurance companies. I have not attempted to verify this, but it is clear to me that they were truly interested in discouraging valid claims, rather than preventing fraud. They were asking for a long list of documents from various sources, many of which were not relevant or necessary to our case because it was a COVID cancellation beyond our control. Not worth the money and definitely not worth the hassle!

Your company has made this into such an unnecessary hassle by requiring so much documentation. This school trip was cancelled due to COVID. There is no way anyone could have gone, and some of the paperwork you are asking for we never had in the first place, such as an itinerary, because the trip was cancelled before we got it. I don’t even know how an itinerary would be relevant when the entire trip was cancelled for everyone at the school. We purchased this policy directly through the travel website, so we were not expecting to have to work so hard to get our money back. This may have been company policy and fairly typical of an insurance company, but it was an incredibly poor way to treat your customers during COVID.

In your email you ask for extra time for claims due to higher volume due to COVID. A year and three months later seems like a long time to still be milking that excuse—but do you not realize that things were also harder and more complicated for the families who needed to file those claims? It was a terribly stressful time for us, and we just couldn’t handle the paperwork scavenger hunt you sent us on. The ethical, kind choice would have been for your company to consider the incredible stress almost everyone was under, and take steps to NOT overwhelm your customers with excessive paperwork that you must have known was going to be difficult to gather. You obviously decided to go a different direction.

I have never been able to speak to "Tara" the analyst assigned to my case but I have no reason to believe Tara has any interest in processing this claim and cutting me a check as I deserve. Also, Like a few other mentioned in their reviews, I bought this through Insuremytrip.com and they also bear responsibility for working with this company. I don't believe they have any intention of paying any claims. Even if they do, it was not worth the time and effort it has taken to collect. This is a horrible company with no customer service. Would absolutely not purchase insurance through them.

We purchased insurance for an international trip in March of 2019. This company was recommended by our travel consultant. We haven’t heard anything except a request for additional paperwork to be submitted and that has been pending review since May. It is now July. We have thousands of dollars in airfares and travel arrangements that we hoped to be refunded. Our trip was canceled as I had emergency surgery shortly before the trip and we were unable to fly. I have been on hold for over a half hour and tried to send a message via their website but it wouldn’t even go through. Think we’ve been hoodwinked from this company. After reading others reviews I don’t think we’re going to have any luck. Wish I had researched this company rather than taking someone else’s word for it. Hope you weren’t taken in by this company too.

I am a personal assistant to a family and I purchased Travel Insured Protection Plus from C&F for a little over $4K. Then the COVID-19 pandemic hit and the airline cancelled the flight and fully refunded it. Since it was after the 14 day "look" period, the company only offered a voucher for future travel, not a penny in refund. I filed an exception as the family is elderly and will likely never travel internationally again. The exception was denied. I have filed a complaint with the Florida Insurance Consumer Protection office, but I want to warn people out there - DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

We heard everything: from systems down, to 30 day review time, to requiring all kinds of documentation that have nothing to do with the claim. They literally asked for Travel Agency Bank Records. Yep, not our Bank Records, Travel Agency we purchased the trip from, their Bank Records. Now, 7 months later I am still waiting for a response. I am 80 years old and they must be hoping to run out the clock on me. Well, I am tired of waiting, might need to hire an attorney to go to court to get the money from them.

Was easy to purchase and pay. Do not purchase this to insure travel to a convention for work and training purposes. When my convention was cancelled they informed me they do not cover event cancellation under trip interruption. Their recorded message says they might possibly cover the cost of changing your flight ticket, however if the event has no reschedule date this is impossible. Seems like a token of hope that they know will likely not produce a payment on their part.

Something is going on with this company. My travel friend and I had to cancel a trip because she was injured, and we filed a claim in September. We submitted all the required materials and were told that they would process it within six weeks. Long story short: after over four months of numerous calls and submissions of papers with the same information over and over, and numerous responses that “we just need one more thing,” a conversation with my attorney, and two calls in which I (at the direction of my attorney) spoke as sternly as I could, we finally received our refunds on Jan. 31. The delays and delaying tactics made me wonder if the company is in trouble or has adopted shady business practices. I will not use it in the future.

We were delayed due to a well documented/national newsworthy storm. We were on our way home from vacation. Got stuck in our connecting city (so not anywhere near home). Submitted our claim for travel delay and for baggage literally the next day. Our baggage ended up at our final destination when we didn't...so we were without our luggage for over 24 hours.

I had to call the claims dept after several weeks of hearing NOTHING. A claims adjustor called me. They "don't have" my travel delay form, so I have to re-submit it. I know I submitted it...but funny how you cannot see or review the documents once you've sent them. You just have to take the adjustor's word that they "don't have it."

The baggage delay claim is being denied because we were on our way to "our final destination" although we were NOT at our final destination...we got stuck in a connecting city! I am going to try and escalate this to a manager. Our airline sent our bags on a plane that we were not on. Isn't that proof enough? I am so frustrated. I bought this through USAA and will also be complaining to them. Never again. I learned my lesson, stick with the larger, more reputable companies for travel insurance.

Etc etc. They were incredibly sluggish and unresponsive, and never took responsibility for any of it. In the end we only got action after our trip organizer herself did some action behind the scenes through a personal friend she had working there. An ugly and very frustrating experience. AVOID.

I made the mistake and never again. They are happy to take your money but when it comes to claims, they do not respond, they do not call you, and they do not email you. I called several times to find out what the issue was, and all I was told is, "They will call you, and they are working on your claim."

Now I am used to claims in a way, that after you open a claim, they call you and go over what happened, get a chance to speak to you and begin processing the claim, as well as have an email and a phone number to your agent. Now none of this happened. It's almost like they were ignoring you. Finally 2 months later they send me a letter that says, "Your claim was denied." I don't understand how this can be. We were evacuated due to a flood in Valencia this year 2019 and we left much sooner than we were supposed to, so we opened up a claim for the airfare and as I mentioned, with no response for 2 months, a letter arrives that sorry, we do not cover natural disasters. My wife broke her foot on our trip to Egypt. We called to get a referral for a doctor and were told they didn't have anyone to recommend. Our guide recommended going to a pharmacy (where most Egyptians appear to get medical advice and medications). My first aid, a medication to reduce swelling and a pain ointment seemed to help and the opinion was that her foot was not broken. If we terminated our trip, we would have to pay for return flights and might not get compensated. We decided to stay for the last three days without pushing my wife's pain levels. Upon returning to the U.S., my wife went immediately to an orthopedic doctor and x-rays revealed her foot was broken. She required taping and a boot for 6 weeks healing. A request was made to pay for the deductible on the boot ($185) and for one hotel stay ($87) on our last day before the flight left so my wife would be comfortable and be able to care for her injury. Requests denied.

"Any care after returning to U.S. is not covered." "Payment for in country only if trip was terminated." We have use Travel Insured for many overseas trips without problems but when there was a problem, we felt like we were on our own. Something is wrong with this picture. My expectations were way off and all of these rules and limitations were quite a surprise. I question the value of these travel policies in general and feel that when a medical emergency arises, there should be some clarification of options and resources which were not forthcoming. If one has a severe injury, say a broken hip, would you be limited to the care in Egypt? Would you be able to receive care in a location known for their medical care such as Dubai? Lots of questions about what is covered and what is not.

This is the worst insurance company I have purchased Travel insurance from. But they will provide you with the highest premium with lowest coverage hiding few key material items. They know that most of the travelers are ignorant about travel insurance. And the company takes advantage of their ignorance. They will elaborate on useless insurance items and hide key items where it matters the most for travelers.

So we purchased travel insurance to go to Scandinavian countries for about 2 weeks. It just so happened that my wife's purse was stolen on day one in Helsinki, Finland. As a result, we lost several key documents such as passports and other valuable items. Our entire world turned upside down. Our world was in that purse. When we came back to USA we filed insurance claim with C&F.

They asked all types of questions on their recorded phone lines. We answered all the questions. With the claim we sent all the required documents such as police report, copy of travel itinerary and all other information. After filing claim, eight months went by no response of any type from insurance company. Every time I called them, their response was they are working on it. In the meantime they kept telling me the person who is assigned to my claim has been promoted. And they gave me the new person's name to handle my claim. I kept calling this new person and left several messages. The calls were not returned. I am in an absolute limbo.

Finally, I gave up. I complained with Florida State Insurance Commissioners and filed a case against C&F. Since there was no response from C&F after 3 weeks I called them to remind them of my complaint with the State Insurance Commissioner. Then, finally I started getting response. Even then, they tried to con me. They said there were several items not covered through C&F. They were still asking for receipts of several items after 8 months had gone by. Even though I had already sent those receipts with the initial claim. I filed for about $14000 worth of claim of which they only paid about $1200.

Not only that the company is morally bankrupt but hinging on illegality. They are very nice when it comes to taking our premium but diametrically opposite when it comes paying the claim. That is how they are trained to handle the claims by senior management and possibly by the president of company. That is how the senior management make money by getting bigger bonus every year.

They definitely believe in "everything is insured but nothing is covered". As far as I am concerned this insurance company is a fraud. I have asked the State of Florida to conduct a thorough audit of all claims received by the company in last 3 years and if any issues discovered bar them from doing business in the state of Florida. The reviews on C&F site are all bogus. They screen it to make sure the travelers write good reviews otherwise they do not publish it.
