I purchased a travel insurance policy for a recent trip to Italy. My return flight was cancelled (twice). During this process I called Travel Insured's 800 number and they reps on the phone were very attentive and helpful. I kept all of the receipts and documents I would need to file a claim. Upon return home I filed a claim with very detailed backup (I'm a CPA). The claim department did come back and say they needed two backup documents. Even though these documents were included in my original submission I resent them anyway. Two months later and the claim is still in "review". I have left three voice mail messages (each a week apart) with the person who is suppose to handling my claim with no return call. Very dissatisfied with the claim processing service.

If I could give this company Zero Stars I would! All insurance companies are scams, but this company takes scam to another level! Travel Insured need to be sued for telling customers to get coverage and can cancel for any reason only for when you have to cancel and spend weeks sending in documents you find out that cancel for any reason is a lie. Our flight and hotel was canceled due to war strikes. We didn't cancel. If we could go, we couldn't go because the hotel and the airline closed and canceled. The airline fully refunded but the insurance would not reimburse the hotel stay saying war strikes weren't covered and we needed to purchase additional coverage. LIE and SCAM!

Purchasing travel insurance with Travel Insured International was probably the best experience I've had with this need. I have purchased trip insurance before and also insurance with various travel suppliers (airline, rental car, etc.), but on this trip, I was traveling with my mother who, because of her advanced age, was rated a higher risk. Since my wife and I were the principal travelers and the cost of adding on my mother was minimal, we were able to reflect the higher coverage against my wife and I and tailor a better quote than other websites that just look at a trip total and the travelers, and not the cost of the trip by traveler. This provided a substantial savings. I'm glad the trip went well, and we didn't need to file a claim; however, the trip was expensive enough, and my mom was old enough that it gave peace of mind to have the insurance in place.

If you are considering Travel Insured for "peace of mind," look elsewhere. My experience has shown that when things actually go wrong, their "Assistance Company" is worse than unhelpful they are negligent and contradictory. I recently faced a travel disruption and reached out for help. I was initially told by an agent that they "cannot book or modify commercial flights." When I pushed back, I spoke to a concierge agent the very next day who confirmed this was completely false. The concierge agent admitted the previous representative was negligent, acknowledged that flight assistance is a service they do provide, and even opened a formal case to address the failure. Here is why you should stay away:

Inconsistent Information: One hand doesn’t know what the other is doing. You will get different answers depending on who picks up the phone.
Negligence in Emergencies: When you are stranded and stressed, you need a company that acts. Instead, I was met with agents who refused to perform the basic duties of their job.

Refusal to Acknowledge Mistakes: Even after a concierge agent admitted fault and opened a case, their corporate response ignored those facts entirely to protect their bottom line.

A travel insurance policy is only as good as the support you get when you're stranded. Travel Insured proved that their "support" is a scripted wall of "no," even when their own staff admits they are wrong. Save your money and your sanity book with a company that actually stands by their service promises.

      1) FALSE ADVERTISING!!!! When you first look them up online, they say they will refund your money for a canceled trip. I had to cancel a trip overseas because of an emergency room visit. I sent in all the documents they asked for--including the doctor's form. Even though I sent (the beginning of Nov. 2025) in everything they requested and they sent an email saying that they received the forms, they kept asking for them again and again. One of the questions on the customer's form was, "Do you plan to use the credits." I wrote that I HOPE to, but with all the diagnoses that I had and what the doctor wrote, I didn't know if I'd actually be able to. In fact, I did make a reservation for another time and, again, had to cancel because of another ER visit. They claim that the use of the credits is explained in the plan material all the way down on page 12. I would say most people trust what they are told to sign is correct and don't bother to read all that.

      2) This was going on for more than 3 1/2 months.

      3) They very specifically say that the documents must be sent within 15 months. What they SHOULD say is not to submit them until the year (of credits) is finished (because a person might decide to use them in that time). Or don't bother submitting if you might use the credits within the year.

We had a last minute medical emergency that forced us to cancel our trip to Africa. After the emergency was resolved, we were able to protect our $16,000 + investment in the land side of the trip by rebooking to a future date — money that Travel Insured would have had to reimburse to is if we had not rebooked. In order to rebook, we had to pay an additional small amount of less than $800. Even though this modest payment protected Travel Insured from having to repay us the original $16,000, they refused to reimburse us, citing the dubious technicality that it related to a “different trip” that they had not insured — the rebooking. Never mind that the payment saved them $16,000 on the trip they DID insure. They refused repeatedly. Such a concept of basic fairness was clearly foreign to them. Not the way they operated. Will never use them again.

I'm a big believer in travel insurance and always purchase it for big trips especially those involving varied family members. I also understand the importance of why there are specific explanations as to what is covered and what is not. Frankly, I feel in this case, the failure of evaluating our situation with some logic, was quite unreasonable. The trip was to be for 8 family members (4 cruise cabins). My step-daughter started ONE YEAR in advance to secure her birth certificate... born in Australia when my husband was an exchange pilot in their air force. If she applied for her updated passport PRIOR to getting her birth certificate, there would have been a "flag" so to speak in the system that she had applied and it had been denied (because of lack of all documentation). She was advised to wait for the birth certificate... and has a trail of phone calls, messages, and emails to demonstrate her effort to get it.

It finally arrived 2.5 weeks before the cruise--not in time to get the passport. The entire family trip fell apart. Even though she had been following all proper procedure in an effort to secure her passport, because that didn't include the actual application for IT, our claim was denied. Thousands of dollars lost because a human couldn't see clearly that she had work diligently to apply for the actual passport. I do realize her failure to apply meant that it didn't technically meet the criteria, but I'd have to say that the insurance companies have totally lost the human logic and human touch in providing their service.

I purchased this insurance upon the recommendation of my travel agent. I don't know if she has ever dealt with Travel Insured International's claim process, but it isn't straightforward. The website encourages you to start the claim on line, but uploading documents fails on multiple browsers. Then I called and was told there's a ticket submitted on the document upload process so they'll email me the forms and I can email my documents. The emails did not include a Trip Interruption Claim Form, which I needed. That was solved by another exchange of emails since I couldn't find the form on their website.

Long story short my claim was approved in slightly less than a month from my first attempt to file, or two weeks after they got their last required form. This company requires you to use their own forms which complicates the process. If you're good at scanning and uploading forms and can tolerate some frustration you'll get there eventually. This was only my second travel event that required a claim, but I found their processes unnecessarily complicated compared to my previous experience.

DO NOT - DO NOT – DO NOT use this company for any type of Travel Insurance -YOU’LL BE SORRY YOU DID! In my opinion, it is absolutely, the worst staffed company in the USA, including the President and CEO who have absolutely no customer care skills, no compassion, ridiculous rules, and horrific and torturous claim filing procedures. The bottom line, they will do anything to deny your claim. After getting nowhere with their claims representative, I asked to speak with a supervisor. IT TOOK 3 DAYS FOR A SUPERVISOR TO RESPOND and he give me the same excuses why the company could not pay the claim. I then wrote the CEO and the President of the company and here is an exact quote from the response I received from the President’s Office:

“I wanted to review where we are now with your claim. I understand that Justin from claims reached out and you two had a conversation regarding our need for the supporting documents we have requested. You are right that it would seem insensitive for us to question your claim request. We looked into the timeline of the claim and the trip was cancelled prior to your wife expiring. Hence, it is a claim for trip cancellation based on sickness, not death.” “We understand why you feel we are insensitive as we have a death certificate. However, because of the trip cancellation prior to your wife’s death, we need to review for payment based on sickness. I hope you understand."

My wife took out their insurance in March or April for a trip to Italy in September with her brother, sisters, nieces and nephews – a trip of a lifetime that she was looking forward to. On May 10th, 2024, she was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer and died on May 31st, 2024. In May she filed a claim with the company that she wasn’t feeling well. In the beginning they sent a claim form for the charges that were being claimed. When she passed away just a few weeks later THAT’S WHEN ALL HELL BROKE LOOSE. As her surviving spouse I simply forwarded the DEATH CERTIFICATE, since we took out the optional coverage, to cancel for any reason. IT SEEMS THE DEATH CERTIFICATE IS UNACCEPTABLE TO THEM TO PROCESS THE CLAIM – IT DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR “ANY” REASON.

Their response was “She started the claim as “SICK” and must be “PROCESSED” as sick.” That’s when I was tortured by them making me revisit all the doctors and clinics to get the ridiculous claim forms filled out by the doctors. Bringing back the devasting memories of my poor sick wife, suffering in pain, at all these locations. The doctor’s offices were MORTIFIED that this company refused to accept a DEATH CERTIFICATE, whereas in the medical and legal professions, a death certificate is considered as absolute proof. COMPLETELY INSANE and INHUMANE.

This whole process has been going on for over 6 months and no payment for the claim has been sent to me. Just more forms and more excuses. Not only will you lose your premium money, but you will also lose your claim as well! In fact I just received their formal letter of denial of claim. This is a sham of a company. I am certain you can find a more reputable travel insurance company in the USA. Just stay away from this one! I would not recommend this company to my worst enemy!!!
