What is Faye?

Faye is an “insurtech” company selling whole-trip travel insurance underwritten by United States Fire Insurance Company. It is 100% digital: You can get quotes, purchase coverage, make claims and get support 24/7 online.

Faye’s standard plan covers your trip and your belongings and health while you’re traveling in the U.S. or most countries. Faye offers add-on coverage for rental car damage, any-reason cancellation, extreme & adventure sports, pet care and vacation rental damage.

Faye started in early 2022. As of publishing, its plans are available to residents of all states.

How does Faye work?

To get pricing for your trip, enter your trip and traveler details on Faye’s website or in its mobile app. Your custom quote will be available in 60 seconds or less and will include the total plan cost and the cost of any additional coverage. You can adjust the estimated total trip cost, which is the maximum amount Faye will reimburse in the event of a cancellation.

Once you’ve received and accepted your quote, the next step is to have Faye’s app ready to use while on your trip. Faye’s app provides flight alerts and COVID-19 requirements, helps you file claims and receive reimbursement, and gives you access to 24/7 customer support.

Faye coverage

Faye offers whole-trip insurance, dividing coverages into three categories: your health, your trip and your stuff. Most of its coverages come standard, with several add-on options available.

Faye also offers add-on coverages for rental car damage, canceling for any reason (at least 48 hours ahead of departure), vet and kennel expenses, and vacation rental property damage.

How much does Faye cost?

Faye trip insurance costs vary based on factors including where you’re traveling, the length of your trip, any add-on coverages you choose and the estimated total trip cost (the maximum amount Faye reimburses you in case of a trip cancellation).

We requested a quote for Faye travel insurance for a family traveling from Colorado to Hawaii in December 2020. Faye quoted a price of $269.77 with an estimated total trip cost of $2,000. Increasing the maximum reimbursement to $5,000 increased the total cost to $361.34. Adding on cancel-for-any-reason coverage would have cost $38.28 or $95.70 for each plan, respectively.

Faye FAQ

When should I purchase Faye insurance?

Faye recommends purchasing travel insurance as soon as possible after booking your trip so you’re protected in case of any unforeseen event. To get the full range of coverage options, you must purchase your plan within 14 days of booking your trip. You can purchase coverage up to the time you leave.

Where is Faye available?

Faye offers plans for domestic U.S. travel and most international travel. It’s available to residents of all states. It is not available to Washington, D.C. residents. Faye is available to residents of New York, with some modifications due to state-specific insurance regulations.

How do I file a claim with Faye?

You can file a claim using the Faye app. You can then check the status in the app or by emailing or calling the company. Faye aims to process claims within 48 hours of receiving all necessary information.

What is Faye’s cancellation policy?

If you cancel within 14 days after purchasing a Faye plan, you’ll receive a full refund as long as your trip hasn’t started and you haven’t filed a claim.

    This is the second time I have used Faye Insurance. They are on the ball, so quick to answer any questions. They keep up with your flights and let you know about delays.       I was happy to have the peace of mind of trip insurance. The only thing that annoyed me was that I couldn't add my rental car to my policy. I get rental insurance with my credit card, but the car rental place insisted that we purchased insurance through them. I reached out to Faye to see if I could add it to my policy and they said there was a 48-hour waiting period. I guess that would've been helpful to know ahead of time.

      I didn't have to actually use the insurance I bought but Faye was the best priced, and I found the app and all its options extremely good. It notifies you of flight time changes, baggage claim info (most of the time), gate info and, since it uses location info, the nearest doctors and pharmacies as well as local emergency (police, fire, medical) numbers directly in the app. It also can notify your designated contact of your safe arrival after each flight. Very nice!

      Our trip was good although we had to miss one excursion due to my husband's ability to handle all the up/down and walking. We do feel like the wording on how rough the terrains is for the older folks isn’t accurate. We also had a very rough night at sea even after having to miss a port due to the weather. Although you really weren’t able to move around the ship due to safety. The winds were at 80 knots. Pretty rough, thank God we arrived in Spain safely.

      This is a fraud. They will absolutely take your money and then if they need to pay out, they will absolutely do everything to avoid it. This includes lying and trying to pretend the airplane issues started before the coverage, even though the airline has a record of when the issues started. Do not use this service. They will absolutely take your money and leave you stranded without assistance in another country.

      My wife and I bought a Faye policy to cover a 15 day Viking ocean cruise in the Mediterranean. My wife became ill and was charged for the ship doctor visit as well as medication. She also was unable to attend one of our pre-purchased excursions. The cruise also missed three of the scheduled ports due to weather, although Viking replaced two North African ports with two other island ports. Once we were home used the Faye app to file claims for the above. It was my first time using the Faye app, but it was quite easy to navigate. I thought I had provided all of the data they requested, which was a lot. However, this began a three month long process to close our claim, which we just did today.

      We found that Faye rejected the claim multiple times and asked for additional information, not just the medical expenses and the receipt for the purchased excursion and cost of the cruise, etc. We provided all that they requested, but there was always additional information requested. After a month and a half I finally requested through their Chat service that I speak with a person. Eventually, I did get a call from the claims department. The woman we spoke to on multiple occasions, was very polite and helpful, but sometimes the action she said would be taken, did not occur. Faye had actually done some of the math incorrectly, which affected the delay. Also, I received online requests online that had already been covered or was outright incorrect. We felt like the system was stalling.

      Later, the claims examiner confirmed when questioned, that Faye uses an online AI system to augment responses. She said she did not have a record of what I had received although I had taken screenshots of these entries. This confusion and some delays on behalf of the claim department made this process tedious and it just took too long to be settled. However, in the end Faye did agree to reimburse us for the full medical cost which was around $350 and for the cost of the excursion. So in summary, they took too long and the process and tedious, but our claim was eventually approved. Faye did not agree to reimburse us for what we considered trip interruption because of the port that was missed entirely, and the two ports that were swapped. We were told by the claims examiner that this is not covered under the policy.

      If you are considering using Faye insurance, I suggest that you keep excellent records of every invoice, purchase, medical expense, bank draft, or credit card receipt for everything including the initial trip purchase because they will ask you for it. Use discernment when reviewing status updates from Faye about your claim. Several times we received messages that asked for things we had already provided or that we're not relevant by what turns out to be the Faye AI system. When we spoke with the claims examiner, she said she had no knowledge or record of these, although she did acknowledge that they use an AI system. My suggestion is that if you don't get a satisfactory response quickly, request that the claims department call you directly. That is the only way we finally got this closed, although it took three or four live person conversations.

      We encountered a blizzard which shut down the airport for multiple days and we could not get to our vacation. Faye decided that since we had gone to the airport, our trip had started therefore they wouldn't pay for the trip. The person on the phone could not come up with any circumstance under which they would pay for a trip. I can't imagine why anyone would ever use Faye.

      January 1, 2025 mailed claim papers to Faye. After more than 6 calls and a month, someone finally found them, telling me they received on January 5. Called, several times, couldn’t find them, even though they acknowledged they received documents. Faxed 13 pages on February 4th. Called three more times until a clerk named Phoebe, found the documents and said she would send them to claims. No one has contacted after 1 1/2 months on my claim. What can be done??? I’m so disappointed. Never again! Beware.

      We missed our connecting flight from in Dallas to FSD due to mechanical issues with the plane in DFW/Fort Worth. We changed the flight to Des Moines and rented a vehicle and drove home to Sioux Falls. The airline tried to change our flights to Dallas to Chicago then chicago to Sioux Falls but they were not confident that Chicago would not be affected by some bad weather.       Faye is a scam, just go somewhere else. Honestly don’t know how there are so many positive reviews on here, they may be rigged somehow. Faye put me through the wringer on my claim, no matter how many documents I provided they just asked for more and more with no end. After about 12 rounds of this it became obvious that they never intended to help at all and 3 months of wasted back and forth resulted in nothing but frustration, despite them having full records of the medical event that disrupted the trip and a mountain of documentation. I would have been better off with no insurance at all, at least I’d still have my premiums and the dozens of hours I wasted with these clowns.
