What is The Hanover auto insurance?

The Hanover is an insurer with a variety of auto coverage options, including accident forgiveness, bodily injury liability, rental car, medical payments and comprehensive physical damage insurance. It also offers original equipment manufacturer (OEM) coverage, deductible dividends and newer car replacement. Its roadside assistance coverage provides 24/7 emergency assistance and towing.

The Hanover’s Prestige coverage protects high-value vehicles and lets you tailor your coverage to meet complex insurance needs. This package includes global rental, rental upgrade, travel companion, lifetime OEM and new car extender coverage.

How does The Hanover auto insurance work?

The Hanover’s OEM coverage ensures you get original replacement parts in the event of a covered repair. In case of a total loss, the newer car replacement coverage pays the cash value to replace your car with the same vehicle (but one model year newer), and the deductible dividends endorsement saves money on out-of-pocket claims. You can file a claim online or contact an agent.

The Hanover’s Prestige package includes extra accident insurance for all rental cars when you travel worldwide. This plan also has no daily limit on rental car reimbursement during covered repairs and reimburses policyholders up to $6,000. Prestige also includes no-deductible glass repair and replacement. The company’s travel companion insurance for trip interruption pays $250 for towing and roadside assistance and $1,000 for hotel stays, meals and transportation.

The Hanover’s lifetime OEM coverage guarantees brand-name parts in case of a covered repair, and its new car extender coverage pays the full replacement cost in the event of a total loss. The company also covers auto-related pet injuries up to $2,500 and insures classic cars at an agreed-upon value with no depreciation.

I have been with Hanover for years. They like most companies have completely lost their way. It's about their profit, policies and procedures. They no longer care about their loyal customers or offer any quality customer service. I can't wait to switch to another company.

My bank account was double charged & when I first noticed they tried to blame my bank saying that it was pending. The following day both charges had gone through and instead of charging my card back the amount of money that they had charged for a year worth of insurance they decided to write a check out instead. It has not been a little over two weeks & I have not received my reimbursement check. I reached out to the insurance company last week & they did not respond. As of this day, still waiting on a response & my money back.

They determined that my car was totaled after a 5mph front-end collision. All the airbags went off. Almost zero external damage. And since it is totaled, I only get 7 days of auto rental. The pay for 30 days. They towed it 500 miles away to Flint MI. Now they say it’s not totaled. Still hanging in limbo with my drivable, not totaled car. My auto business people say this is a s…. Show.

I recently started a new home and auto policy with Hanover. The quote I received was competitive and I had received recommendations from others who knew the company and told me they were good and that - customer service was excellent. After I signed up a home inspector came to my house and looked the place over to verify the property was as depicted in county records and what I supplied in the sign-up process. The inspector found a few minor issues like no water sensors under my sinks which could easily been corrected. There were some other things found like no guard rail on a second garage rear exit that are almost never used by anyone but me. I was given less than 48 hours to address the issues found and then I received a notice that my annual rate was increasing by 45%. After I complained my policy was immediately terminated. I am now switching over to another insurer who had been my second choice.

I had Hanover Insurance for a year, and my experience was incredibly disappointing. My wife, an excellent driver with over 20 years of accident-free history, had an unfortunate year where she was involved in two incidents—one where her car was totaled (with no other party involved) and a hit-and-run that Hanover investigated.

Despite her long history of safe driving, Hanover decided to drop us at the end of the year. This not only impacted our ability to find new coverage but also damaged my reputation as an insured driver, making future policies significantly more expensive. It felt as though Hanover penalized us simply for needing to use the insurance we paid for. After much difficulty, I finally secured coverage with Progressive. My experience with Hanover made me feel like if you have an accident, regardless of your history, they will treat you like a liability and drop you. I cannot recommend this company to anyone looking for fair and reliable insurance coverage.

This company should be called Handover insurance premiums for nothing in return. If you google and click long enough you will see that Hanover obviously has a person in charge of getting the bad things about them removed from the internet BUT if you dig deep enough you will find that Hanover LOVES to sue anyone with a major claim instead of paying it out. They will lie to you, they will misinform you, they will hire investigators to look into all of your past relationships and will run up this huge bill pulling skeletons out of your closet from thirty years ago and then they sue you to not pay your claim AND to force you to pay their lawyers and investigators fees.

I have a friend that had a valid claim and come to find out Hanover spent $1.3 million investigating him and then sued him for the $1.3 million and denied his claim because "he told them no original documentation was available and it was lost in the fire." To which they replied, "We don't care where it comes from we just have to have something to give to our bosses to get the claim processed.... just get copies made based off of memory," which he followed through per their request and then Hanover cancelled his claim and got him indicted!

This company is every horrible insurance company that you have heard stories about and seen on the TV. If they have to choose between you living but it will cost them an extra $9 just tell everyone goodbye because you have zero value to Hanover other than being a premium payer. They should actually change their name to The Hanover Premiums collection agency because they do not insure anything. The only thing they insure is protecting those premiums from ever being distributed into claims. Garbage company with sociopaths working for them. RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!! NO INSURANCE IS BETTER THAN THIS COMPANY!!

As a loyal customer of Hanover Insurance for over five years, I've always felt secure knowing my house and car were protected. However, everything changed when we were involved in an accident that was clearly not our fault. Despite our diligent insurance history, we were unfairly blamed simply because we didn't have a dash cam installed – a requirement I was unaware of until now, and one I'll certainly never overlook again.

To compound matters, the truck driver involved in the accident brazenly lied about the events, further complicating our situation. Despite our innocence and the evidence at hand, Hanover Insurance shockingly decided not to support us. Now, after promising to rectify the issue, Hanover has only added insult to injury by consistently misleading us and failing to follow through on their commitments. This experience has shattered my trust in the company and left me deeply disillusioned.

Had Hanover ins bundle for years. Bought a new car. Received an extremely high auto ins bill. Was away on vacation, cancelled us for lack of payment. Called to straighten things out. They now wanted a thousand more. Pay all upfront. I never missed a payment. I had a perfect credit score. Frustrating at best. Found new Ins Co to bundle so we can get rid of Hanover altogether. Now getting letter from debt collection from Hanover for some umbrella ins. Everything was cancelled. No reason for a bill just let me leave.

WORST INSURANCE COMPANY EVER! Wish I could give no stars or negative stars. Cancelled our house and auto policies via email on 10/14/23. Took them two days to send me the Cancellation Request for our electronic signature. Electronically signed it right away on 10/16/23. They had already been paid by our credit union's escrow account for our annual house insurance ($1,680). The agent lied and said a check was mailed on 10/24/23. Then Citizens/Hanover went into our checking account on 11/3/23 and withdrew money for our cancelled auto policy ($379.25). They are refusing to put the money back into our account even though they have the routing and account number.

They requested a screenshot of the withdrawal from our checking account. This contains a lot of confidential information, but I sent it anyway. Then they replied via email, "Unfortunately this isn’t enough information. We can’t see the name of the credit union, the account it was drafted out of, or a positive balance after our draft, so I will need more information." They KNOW the routing and check number. They took the money! When I asked the agent where our check is that was supposedly mailed on 10/24/23, she said that there was no check mailed as it is under review. They have $2,059.25 of our money and are just sitting on it refusing to return it. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are thieves! I have had to file a complaint with the Department of Insurance and Financial Services to try to get our money back.

Car severely damaged in a Colorado hail storm while I was in town for my daughter's funeral. It took them 15 days to even have an adjuster look at it. They still have not towed it. They didn't total it when all 3 other family members at same location were totaled and already received their checks from their company. Now they are sending it to a shop that is over 2 months from getting to it, but I only have 12 days rental coverage left. I had to pay to fly back to Michigan, and will have to pay to fly back to get it. TOTAL **. And the adjuster does not return calls for days. WORST service imaginable!
