Read full reviewWhat is The Hanover auto insurance?
The Hanover is an insurer with a variety of auto coverage options, including accident forgiveness, bodily injury liability, rental car, medical payments and comprehensive physical damage insurance. It also offers original equipment manufacturer (OEM) coverage, deductible dividends and newer car replacement. Its roadside assistance coverage provides 24/7 emergency assistance and towing.
The Hanover’s Prestige coverage protects high-value vehicles and lets you tailor your coverage to meet complex insurance needs. This package includes global rental, rental upgrade, travel companion, lifetime OEM and new car extender coverage.
How does The Hanover auto insurance work?
The Hanover’s OEM coverage ensures you get original replacement parts in the event of a covered repair. In case of a total loss, the newer car replacement coverage pays the cash value to replace your car with the same vehicle (but one model year newer), and the deductible dividends endorsement saves money on out-of-pocket claims. You can file a claim online or contact an agent.
The Hanover’s Prestige package includes extra accident insurance for all rental cars when you travel worldwide. This plan also has no daily limit on rental car reimbursement during covered repairs and reimburses policyholders up to $6,000. Prestige also includes no-deductible glass repair and replacement. The company’s travel companion insurance for trip interruption pays $250 for towing and roadside assistance and $1,000 for hotel stays, meals and transportation.
The Hanover’s lifetime OEM coverage guarantees brand-name parts in case of a covered repair, and its new car extender coverage pays the full replacement cost in the event of a total loss. The company also covers auto-related pet injuries up to $2,500 and insures classic cars at an agreed-upon value with no depreciation.
The Hanover auto insurance quotes and costs
The Hanover doesn’t list its auto insurance prices online. To save money on your premiums, you can bundle home, auto and other coverages with The Hanover Platinum. Contact a representative for a customized quote. The Hanover also offers discounts for safe driving, payments in full, anti-theft devices, multicar policies, accident prevention courses and more.

WORST INSURANCE COMPANY EVER! Wish I could give no stars or negative stars. Cancelled our house and auto policies via email on 10/14/23. Took them two days to send me the Cancellation Request for our electronic signature. Electronically signed it right away on 10/16/23. They had already been paid by our credit union's escrow account for our annual house insurance ($1,680). The agent lied and said a check was mailed on 10/24/23. Then Citizens/Hanover went into our checking account on 11/3/23 and withdrew money for our cancelled auto policy ($379.25). They are refusing to put the money back into our account even though they have the routing and account number.
They requested a screenshot of the withdrawal from our checking account. This contains a lot of confidential information, but I sent it anyway. Then they replied via email, "Unfortunately this isn’t enough information. We can’t see the name of the credit union, the account it was drafted out of, or a positive balance after our draft, so I will need more information." They KNOW the routing and check number. They took the money! When I asked the agent where our check is that was supposedly mailed on 10/24/23, she said that there was no check mailed as it is under review. They have $2,059.25 of our money and are just sitting on it refusing to return it. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! They are thieves! I have had to file a complaint with the Department of Insurance and Financial Services to try to get our money back.

Car severely damaged in a Colorado hail storm while I was in town for my daughter's funeral. It took them 15 days to even have an adjuster look at it. They still have not towed it. They didn't total it when all 3 other family members at same location were totaled and already received their checks from their company. Now they are sending it to a shop that is over 2 months from getting to it, but I only have 12 days rental coverage left. I had to pay to fly back to Michigan, and will have to pay to fly back to get it. TOTAL **. And the adjuster does not return calls for days. WORST service imaginable!

I can't give a review on their claim processing as I have never filed a claim in my 8 to 9 years being with this company. Yet I paid $2400 a year!!! How is it possible that every year it goes up? How is it possible a 20 year old pays less than a 40 year old? I no longer pay that insane amount of money.

Omg is this for real? This company is the worst group of lying deceitful con artists. Everyone on my claim "No longer is employed there" lol. They give me bogus phone line extensions, continued denials, they open a letter from me and returned it "Non deliverable" yet it's the address on their letterhead. Lol I have a lifetime case, and they continue to close it and brush me away. They have been delinquent since 1993. Everything about this company is sickening lies. They held my awarded case from me hidden for 22 years, and left me to suffer! They to this day won't acknowledge me or the claim. They have never paid out for any bills yet.

The people that I talked to over the phone were polite and I can't confirm that they did anything wrong, but at the end of the day I was told that my insurance would cover the cost of windshield replacement when there was actually no intention of doing so. The person on the other end with Hanover told me that the computer system was down that day and they could not retrieve all of my information. They went ahead and scheduled an appointment to fix my windshield so that my car could pass inspection. Needless to say when the systems were back up there was no coverage from the policy that I had been paying for, for years. This all seemed too suspicious not to warn others about. Hope this helps discourage others from Hanover auto insurance enough for them to lose out on some of the money their customers are forced to pay.

Had a punctured pontoon as boat was dropped off trailer during transport. The 2 companies involved refused to accept responsibility. Hanover paid all repairs, after deductible and the check arrived in two days.

I have all my policies with Hanover. My agent rewrote my policies into new cheaper policies. Hanover told my agent the old policies were cancelled but they never were!! They even billed my mortgage company for 2 home policies and an auto policy! They were only suppose to bill for 1 new home policy. I found out they did this because my escrow we as over $3, 000 short and they were billing me. This is the most horrible experience!! I want my money back to put in my escrow. Do Not Get Hanover Insurance!! They are the worst!! Run! Run!!

NEW INVOICE FEES! Every time they send an invoice, even at inception with the declaration pages, Hanover will charge you an "INVOICE FEE". Apparently they will stop at nothing to extract a few extra dollars, even from long term customers and those who pay the full premium up front. Never been treated so badly even by customer service also. They seem to be fine with pissing-off their paying customers.

I have requested my coverage Agency respond to my inquiry regarding the outrageous premium that I am being charged. I requested/received a copy of my LexisNexis report which contained 3 entries. (1) 5 mph over speeding ticket in 2017, (2) A comprehensive claim for $282 dated 8/19/16 which I would not have made had my agent not told me that it didn't count against you, and (3) An accident (I was not the driver) from Jan 2014-over 5 years old. After speaking with LexisNexis regarding this report I inquired 3 x's if they did the scoring and was told no...these calls are recorded so I must assume that this is the truth. I have made repeated requests to my Agent for "the insurance score" and have been given the runaround and no information.
I finally found a CSR number for Hanover and made the same inquiry, but was told she can only discuss what is on my bill "not that," and "besides we don't create the insurance scores - LexisNexis does." When I requested an updated report due to my improved credit rating and 4.5 year perfect 100% payment history, my insurance rate was raised. Interesting in that this is exactly the same report as the old one. My rate was just arbitrarily raised because I asked questions? I sent an inquiry to Legacy relaying what LexisNexis said..." they don't score," and asked for information on who is scoring it then, or the phone number of someone I can discuss this situation with. No response.
I am of the opinion the insurance company is receiving unfair financial gain and basing it on some shadowy thing called an insurance score, which no one will tell me what it is and what particular information they are utilizing. For all I know it may be some information that has been reported totally in error. I have a right to know this information, and I am continuing to file a complaint with the insurance commissioner over this matter. This is legalized theft and someone should be looking over these insurance companies shoulder.

First of all, I don't usually write reviews, but this is beyond the pale. DO NOT use this company. I have never had such a bad experience doing something as simple as cancelling an insurance policy. It seems the left hand does not know what the right hand is doing in billing department vs the other departments. Even though I clearly stated I was cancelling the policy, etc they continued to bill me for months after the date, I would get random amounts on bills in the mail-- it just basically felt like they were just making numbers up and sending out bills expecting you to pay them.
It has taken me nearly 7 months to get something as simple as a policy cancellation finalized, and I finally just paid them an amount to make them go away, as I just couldn't deal with it any more and it was not worth the headache. I never even had a claim, etc with them. I can't even imagine what kind of experience it would be with that, given something this simple was so awful. STAY AWAY!
