What is Hagerty?

Hagerty is a classic and collectible vehicle insurer. Its premiums are lower than most standard auto insurance because most collector’s cars are rarely out on the road. Hagerty offers guaranteed replacement value, low annual premiums and flexible usage. Its specialized coverage includes instant new purchase, spare parts, motorcycle safety equipment and auto show medical reimbursement insurance.

Hagerty covers collectible and classic cars from 1979 and older, collector trucks and SUVs from 1996 and older, limited-edition vehicles, supercars and exotics from 1980 and after, rods and replicas, motorsports, military vehicles, retired commercial vehicles 25+ years old and classic tractors and motorcycles. Hagerty Drivers Club provides 24/7 full-service roadside assistance for collector's cars.

Hagerty also offers protection for automobilia like posters, signs, hood ornaments and license plates, as well as track day insurance with time trial, towing, storage and pollutant removal options.

How does Hagerty insurance work?

Hagerty’s agents and industry tools determine the value of your collectible car and create an agreed-value policy to guarantee you get the full value without depreciation in case of a total loss. It customizes coverage based on travel, restoration, automobilia and valuable parts and tools. You must meet specific storage requirements in order to qualify. Hagerty allows flexible usage with no fixed mileage limits.

Hagerty’s new purchase insurance provides 30 days of coverage for up to $50,000 of the value of new collectible cars. Its auto show medical coverage applies up to $10,000 if you or a family member is injured during an auto show or related function. The company covers spare parts up to $750, and if your car needs repairs or restoration, you can choose the facility — or Hagerty will pay for you to perform repairs yourself.

Hagerty auto insurance quotes and rates

Hagerty doesn’t disclose specific pricing information on its website, but it claims its insurance premiums are, on average, 36% lower than daily-driver auto insurance, with an average savings of $264. Contact a customer service representative for a customized quote.

Still have questions?

Is Hagerty insurance good?

Hagerty insures a wide range of collectible vehicles and provides highly customizable coverage. The company does have specific storage requirements, and its coverage doesn’t apply when you drive to work, school or other daily activities. Collectors might like its spare parts and automobilia coverage, as well as its in-house parts specialists. I have 1930 Ford Model A. I needed a jump and requested roadside service. I informed them in writing on my request that it's a 1930 Ford model A and it is a 6 volt system with positive ground in capital letters. They are classic and antique car ins. Provider that's why I insured with them. The guy they sent assured me his jump starter does 6 volt up to 12 volts his word. He also showed up in a regular truck with blacked out tint so didn't think that pickup was for me, but it was. So I showed him the negative side for the positive red cable and same with the positive side for neg. cable.

When I tried to start the car his jumper fried my 6 volt system! He then said, "Do you want to try it again?" WHAT! I said, "Let me see your jumper. You assured me was for 6v." Nope it was a 12 volt jumper. Needless to say he left, so now I'm calling a tow truck flatbed. They finally showed up and got the car back home. But WTF do I do now? Other than replace my electrical system.

I was denied coverage for lack of high performance car experience. I'm a retired Los Angeles cop of 27 years with mandatory high speed drivers training every two years of my 27 years. I have owned a corvette, two Porsche Macans, Mini Cooper John Cooper Works, several Mr2 sports cars. The underwriter sounded and acted like a day one 18 year old. I'm exactly what any insurance company in the world would want to have as a client. Very poor experience from Hagerty.

Then start asking me for pictures of prior the wreck. I was never asked for when I started my policy? Bullshit and will not provide rental or none motorists no deductible. Better Business Bureau call getting made.

Hagerty SUCKS and denies claims no matter how much documentation I provide and they are even asking for documentation that can't be provided and by their own admission they wouldn't have the documentation they are asking for. And giving them 1 star is to more than they deserve. Bad Faith Policy wrote all over it.

I have had Hagerty on and off for ten years. During which time I had one or two small claims. They always paid out as needed. Thank God, right now, I have FOUR cars insured with them. The total AGREED value of the policy is $104,000. I hope what I am reading is NOT true. I have been paying Classic car insurance for 55 years! I am a die hard collector. Without taking sides with the insurance company, there are those that use insurance for their own purposes. I'll leave it at that. They Never consider how lucky they are to drive MULTIPLE cars cheaply.

I just cancelled my new insurance policy. Hagerty billed me $409 more for my policy than the quote they sent me. They claimed my broker had verbally approved the increase, which my broker denies. I believe my broker. Since this made the Hagerty policy 25% more expensive than my prior insurer, I cancelled and returned to my prior insurer. What a waste of time and money, not to mention the frustration. Terrible customer service over the phone, to boot.

The two times I’ve needed Hagerty and they completely failed.
      1. Was for a minor claim for a front bumper. Took them months to pay for it and just left me hanging with no follow up.
      2. Used Hagerty to get the car towed. After hours of waiting on the side of the road no one ever showed up. There was no communication from Hagerty.

I’m going to look for a different provider. The Hagerty you once thought was great is no more! Do yourself a favor and avoid all the time and frustration.

I shopped for insurance in late July of 2025 for my 1949 Ford F-3 which was expiring in September. I received the Hagerty's quote for $223. I spoke to Charlie on 8/9/25 to sign up. Charlie told me to call back after the 16th because it was more than 30 days before my previous insurance was expiring on September 16. In the meantime, I sent two requested photos of my stake bed to Hagerty. I called today and spoke to Miranda and the price was now $273. No explanation other than the effective date was in September. BEWARE!

They will insure your vehicle but you cannot drive it. It can only be inside a garage 100% of the time. If you ever file a claim they will drop your coverage immediately. They love being paid but filing a claim is a death sentence.
