What is Hagerty?

Hagerty is a classic and collectible vehicle insurer. Its premiums are lower than most standard auto insurance because most collector’s cars are rarely out on the road. Hagerty offers guaranteed replacement value, low annual premiums and flexible usage. Its specialized coverage includes instant new purchase, spare parts, motorcycle safety equipment and auto show medical reimbursement insurance.

Hagerty covers collectible and classic cars from 1979 and older, collector trucks and SUVs from 1996 and older, limited-edition vehicles, supercars and exotics from 1980 and after, rods and replicas, motorsports, military vehicles, retired commercial vehicles 25+ years old and classic tractors and motorcycles. Hagerty Drivers Club provides 24/7 full-service roadside assistance for collector's cars.

Hagerty also offers protection for automobilia like posters, signs, hood ornaments and license plates, as well as track day insurance with time trial, towing, storage and pollutant removal options.

How does Hagerty insurance work?

Hagerty’s agents and industry tools determine the value of your collectible car and create an agreed-value policy to guarantee you get the full value without depreciation in case of a total loss. It customizes coverage based on travel, restoration, automobilia and valuable parts and tools. You must meet specific storage requirements in order to qualify. Hagerty allows flexible usage with no fixed mileage limits.

Hagerty’s new purchase insurance provides 30 days of coverage for up to $50,000 of the value of new collectible cars. Its auto show medical coverage applies up to $10,000 if you or a family member is injured during an auto show or related function. The company covers spare parts up to $750, and if your car needs repairs or restoration, you can choose the facility — or Hagerty will pay for you to perform repairs yourself.

Hagerty auto insurance quotes and rates

Hagerty doesn’t disclose specific pricing information on its website, but it claims its insurance premiums are, on average, 36% lower than daily-driver auto insurance, with an average savings of $264. Contact a customer service representative for a customized quote.

Still have questions?

Is Hagerty insurance good?

Hagerty insures a wide range of collectible vehicles and provides highly customizable coverage. The company does have specific storage requirements, and its coverage doesn’t apply when you drive to work, school or other daily activities. Collectors might like its spare parts and automobilia coverage, as well as its in-house parts specialists. If you’re a supercar driver, Hagerty also offers flexible track day coverage to keep you protected during track events.

I had my classic Cadillac breakdown on me. I called to get a tow was informed that because I didn’t know my member ID number off top of my head. I would have to pay for the tow and be reimbursed. That’s fine. When I called to get reimbursed for the tow I was informed that my roadside assistance had been canceled. Not understanding what had happened I asked a few more questions and as It turns out that I had made a phone call to cancel the magazine that comes with the drivers plus subscription because I do not need a magazine coming to my house, during that phone call it was never told to me that canceling the magazine subscription was also going to cancel my roadside assistance so here I am out $250 for the price of a tow because of information that was never told to me through Hagerty for canceling a magazine subscription.

Hagerty Insurance is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. They used to be good when they were a private company but not anymore. They contest the most basic claims and draw out the process endlessly. My car has been in the shop for months battling with them to approve necessary work. On top of them "revising" their previous authorized work, it is almost impossible to get an actual human being on the phone who will do anything. I can't wait to get it finally done and cancel both of my policies.

I have 1930 Ford Model A. I needed a jump and requested roadside service. I informed them in writing on my request that it's a 1930 Ford model A and it is a 6 volt system with positive ground in capital letters. They are classic and antique car ins. Provider that's why I insured with them. The guy they sent assured me his jump starter does 6 volt up to 12 volts his word. He also showed up in a regular truck with blacked out tint so didn't think that pickup was for me, but it was. So I showed him the negative side for the positive red cable and same with the positive side for neg. cable.

When I tried to start the car his jumper fried my 6 volt system! He then said, "Do you want to try it again?" WHAT! I said, "Let me see your jumper. You assured me was for 6v." Nope it was a 12 volt jumper. Needless to say he left, so now I'm calling a tow truck flatbed. They finally showed up and got the car back home. But WTF do I do now? Other than replace my electrical system.

Car is never driven rain and is stored 7 months out of the year. Our standard insurance company will not allow us to list me as the only driver on the Hellcat. I found out about Hagerty and called to get a quote. Was on the phone with their insurance agent giving them all the information requested.

Mind you, this car is mint, and I wanted to insure for $90k. It makes 1001whp and has about $40k in exterior and engine modifications. This information was presented to the agent at the time and no issues were mentioned. Fast forward to the next day. I receive a call from the underwriting team, I missed the call, as I was at work, so I called them back on way home from work. They proceeded to tell me that my quote was denied because of how much horsepower the car had. I have a perfect driving record and I am 42 years old. No blatant reason to not insure me. At no time during the inquiry to quote was I told anything about not being able to insure due to horsepower. This place prides themselves on insuring cars like this and then denies me. What a joke, a waste of time, there has to be better places out there.

We had auto insurance on our 1980 trans am starting in 2012. Filed our first claim ever in 2023 and Hagerty has been terrible. Will not pay claim! They have put us thru hell. Do not use this company. This has been the worst experience our my life.

I have over 15 years experience being a claims adjuster and the lack of communication from this company needs to be reported. I plan to do so! Accident happened 10/2/23. I have only received 2 calls on the property damage portion. The first in November when I threatened a DOI complaint and the next time was mid December asking if so had completed repairs. My vehicle was a total loss and I just went through my own carrier. Which I advise others to do if able. It should not take this long for a response, even involving further investigation. No letters. No calls. No nothing on status for over 30 days is unacceptable in this industry and for this claim. I truly give grace to adjusters but you have to learn better time and tasks management, or the DOI fines will catch up and leave a company in a real bind!

In past experience with Hagerty claims has always been 10 stars, however recently dealing with Claims Adjuster Clarence ** and Supervisor Michelle ** on the difference between small fire and electrical failure has lead me to filing a complaint with the Attorney General Office. After reading numerous complaints over the past six months, I am noticing the same trend of lack of communications, return calls, finding ways to not pay the claim, first time hearing an adjustor must review the claim at a reputable repair shop before repairs are completed and blatant lies over the entire process. However, I found a case online with Brian Roe taking Hagerty to court in Western or Eastern Kentucky. I am hoping someone has a copy of this complaint with the District Attorney Office to assist me with my claim with Hagerty.

I have 30 days to respond to the complaint file with the Attorney General Office in Arizona for Hagerty continue efforts to decline my claim stating electrical failure, when this cause of the damages was a fire. As I stated in the past Hagerty was 10 stars with claims and roadside assistance to process your claim if you provide supporting documents from a reputable repair shop. If anyone has any information to support my claim as fire causing the damages, whereas Hagerty changed the wording to "electric failure" would be great to provide to Attorney General office as supporting documents. I am so frustrated with the entire ordeal and now afraid drive my classic vehicles because I know Hagerty new team will find ways to deny the claim. Roe v Hagerty case number Western District of Kentucky 3:2023cv00117 and Eastern District of Kentucky as case number 3:23-cv-00015, filed 03/14/2023.

I have a vintage Jaguar E-type that I rented out on Hagerty's DriveShare website. I had multiple issues with the whole experience and I might have to sell my car because of it. In short, the driver who rented out my car ruined the automatic transmission and they are not taking care of the $6,000+ claim. I am looking at hiring a lawyer now to go after Hagerty and maybe the driver, who's based out of state. How can they claim to be an insurance company that doesn't stand behind their own products and rental platforms?
