Do not waste your time. Such a headache to deal with customer service and the person who signed us up! I can’t imagine filing a claim with this company. Seems like a bogus company. Thankfully I never paid them, no one would help me set up the deductions anyway. They contacted me through Facebook then came to my business. My husband broke his back so we saw the value in supplemental insurance, but definitely not this one.

I crashed my dirt bike and thought I had just suffered bumps and bruises (and pretty nasty road rash). After 2 weeks I sought treatment because I wasn't recovering like I thought I should have. Turns out I had aa torn rotator cuff and Labrum which required surgery and physical therapy to repair the issue. My claim was denied because I didn't seek medical treatment within 72 hours. What a joke! I sought treatment as soon as I realized I had an actual injury and not just bumps and bruises. I believed most people would have done the same. I guess I will start seeking treatment anytime I stub my toe incase it turns out to be something more serious. I had AFLAC before and they would have covered this injury without question. An accident is an accident! Back to AFLAC I go. I would stay clear of this company as they seem more interested in denying claims instead of providing the coverage you thought you had. Shame on you Colonial!

They came to my work offering me and my co-workers, life insurance and a bunch of other things and they had us fill out forms. I wrote my name like it should be and then they mess up my name and then they refuse to fix it without me happening to print out their stupid form and send it by mail due to their own ignorance. If any company or self-serving person wants good life insurance and good coverage. This is not it. Go anywhere else. Anywhere else is better than here.

I was sold a life insurance policy when I was in my 40s. The agent did not explain that it was a universal life policy nor did they explain how expensive that policy would become after the 20 year mark. Insurance policies often pay out a percentage of what the policy was worth if you cancel it. The agent also did not explain or disclose that this policy was not one that did that. After paying on the policy for 20 years and putting in over $23,000 on it and not being able to afford to continue it I canceled and I receive $1,300 of the benefits back. If agents had been upfront I would have never signed up for this type of policy.
After receiving the check Colonial Life put a stop payment on the check for no reason which cause a major problem with my account. I had to call the company cause they did not even give me a curtesy call telling me that they had put a stop payment on the check. After calling the company I was told they would send another check out as soon as possible only to find out the check was mailed 10 days later. It had caused my bills to be late and I have drained my savings account. I would not do any business with Colonial Life nor recommend them to anyone. Needless to say I worked for the company for over 20 years. I can see why they have a very low rating and so many lawsuits against them. The company is very unprofessional and untrustworthy.

This applies to Colonial Life Critical Illness policies. I am an atypical presentation heart patient. I have had two "Silent Heart Attacks". They were found days, weeks after the event due to stress tests. Colonial stipulates showing 3 of 4 presentations, stated chest pain, abnormal EKG, biomarkers present in the blood, etc, etc. Well when you have silent attacks, you may not check the box on all of their requirements, yet you have new dead heart muscle. They are behind and their policies are outdated. Not everyone is Fred Sanford. Customer service is great. Paying off on valid claims, not so much.

It’s depressing honestly. My husband died on my birthday this year in April. A representative and co worker convinced me to sign up right after his passing 54.XX a week. I fell into depression and was suspended from work. I ended up taking a LOA. June 6th is my initial claim date. I been waiting and waiting. Every time I send in what they ask it’s 5-7 business days, then you call back or look online to check, then they need something else, another 5-7 business days. Ow it’s we gotta make sure it’s not a pre existing condition.
If I’m mistaken you can only die once. Bills piling up. It’s time for back to school. By the time they pay me I’ll be back to work. My primary doctor doesn’t know my husband is deceased, only my therapist knows and that’s who took me off. It’s like listen just tell me what I have to do so I can get back to it. And I also told piedmont (billing company) I can’t afford to keep paying y'all 53.XX a week if Colonial isn’t paying me. I can’t support my family and pay this at the same time. It’s a headache and I’m starting to feel like it’s a waste of time.

Just wanted to pay our premium on the phone with a checking account. I was cut off and right after received a call labeled as 'potential spam'. The person claimed to be from Colonial Life and immediately asked for my personal information. I wouldn't give it and called back. After waiting 5 minutes I was cut off again. Called again asking for a manager. I told her the problem I with the payment system and when I was finished speaking... nothing. Dead air. A company representative should have the company name appear on caller ID, not 'potential spam'. What should have been a 3 minute payment call is now a 45 minute annoyance. And I'll have to mail a check anyway. Hope I never have to make a claim with these people.

Colonial life just another bullshit company, delaying my claim after surgery claiming they need records from my doctors to see if it's a pre existing condition. Because I upgraded my policy they don't want to pay out the amount. I had them for 3 yrs paying premiums just to deal with this bullshit!!!

I carry their sickness and injury policy each time you try and file a claim it's a run around trying to get them to pay if the amount is beyond routine wellness. They claim they have 5-7 days to review, they take the 7 days then ask for more information, take an additional 7 days. I have been waiting over a month for my claim to be paid only to find out they crossed my claim with an old claim that was already paid out months ago. Not only did I have to point it out to 3 different people, but I again had to wait 9 days only for the claim adjustor that it supposedly got bumped to for review to send another letter requesting the same documents that have already been submitted and were entered into the wrong claim... Incompetent to say the least, supervisors down.

I've had Colonial Accident & disability for over 19 years. This company has turned into a major disappointment. They constantly remind you of when your payment is due, but when it comes to them honoring the contract, they pay the least amount possible or nothing at all. In 2019, a pickup truck slammed into my vehicle causing 2 collapsed disks in my neck. Colonial stated that I didn't qualify for disability because it was a vehicle accident. And I was in a lawsuit because of it. In Nov 2024. I had an idiot cut in front of me, slamming my knee on the dash, causing patella tendinitis. Colonial paid $178. I was out of work for two 1/2 months healing from that.
In March 2025, I had to have a hysterectomy and the doctor accidentally punctured my bladder. I had to wear a catheter for 2 weeks. It takes 6 to 8 weeks to heal from that surgery. I sent Colonial every paper required, describing the procedures, the doctor's information and my doctor stating (no driving for 4 weeks and no heavy lifting). Colonial denied my claim stating that I'm not totally disabled. What a bunch of cheats. They'll take your payments, but they aren't a honorable or good company at all. In my cases, they have come up with every excuse not to honor the contract. So I'm taking steps to file a complaint with the government agencies in my state.

This has been a complete nightmare people. I have done everything possible on my end in the situation I'm in loosing my beautiful Mother. My experience started over a month ago trying to get the police my Mother left me. They have pushed me off so much that I'm going to the internet for help. I've talked with a supervisor at the Texas branch Mrs **. I thought she was going to help being a supervisor. That did NOT happen. I got the same run around. I know the other life insurance company paid within maybe a week. I'm looking for life insurance and can assure everyone it won't be with this place.
Well, it started when I could only find policy where it was from which was colonial INS. I call them and they said they sent out information because I could find the policy paperwork. So she had me as a beneficial of her policy. I gave them her SS number everything they needed to find it. They said that they needed a affidavit because I didn't have policy number. The very next day I found it. I figured since they had all her information and mine as well on being the only person on her policy it would be kinda fast. 5 weeks into it still no answers and nothing but the run around! I'm going to all social media and letting everyone I know about the experience I've had in my hard times with this place. I will do my best to contact a regional or district manager to try and help this situation out. Please people do your research on the time frame the policy will take when loosing a loved one.

Colonial stole 495 out of my account for premiums they say were unpaid by my employer. With no changes to the job or paper information they state they were not paid from August to January. The job stated they were paid and colonial denies the payments. DON'T USE THEM OR TRUST THEM. COLONIAL IS A SCAM AND THIEVES. I will never recommend them to anyone. I thought they were great till they pulled this. I also spoke to multiple people including the lady that signed me up for the premiums. She offered to help then in the same breath told me to contact them myself that she had no answers. Her name was MJ. If I could give them half a star review that's what they deserve.

I am 72 years old with cancer on social security at $1350.00 a month. I have been paying Colonial Life for cancer insurance since 2002. They do not like to pay you anything but will pay the minimum amount. When they operated on me for my chemo port so the chemo goes straight into the heart they paid me $150.00 out of $4000.00. When they removed my entire stomach and put a plastic tube in they paid me $1500.00 out of $4000.00. They pay a fraction of what they say they will pay. I am not eligible to collect money for being out of work because I am on social security.

This is an extremely long time to continue paying for a service no longer needed. Also be sure to read all the reviews of Colonial life not paying as promised. This company is a scam.

Called 4 times because I needed to get into policy just to look it over. This is a policy through the workplace but was going to purchase extra on my own. After reading reviews I was thinking I probably won't get the extra insurance but then thought I may give it a try as I did have a good experience about 6 years ago. Long story short finally took a user id. Said ok log in so put my new username and pw in only to get the error that they were not correct but of course they were. I have been trying this for 45 mins and am done. If I can't get into the policy, I can't imagine how hard it is to get a claim paid the amount and coverage I was going to get was decent but can't take the chance!

I have not been able to log in to register on the platform to view the policy I signed up for almost a year ago (September 2023). I called to ask for help with registering, and the link that the representative sent me does not work either. The issue seems to be with creating a username. It kept telling me that there were issues with the username I would pick out, and so I spent about an hour changing it to different options that were good for me. I finally tried typing something completely random as a username several different times and that also did not work in creating a username (it kept saying there were problems with the username I picked). Really inefficient and likely to cancel soon, if I can't see my policy.

I was recently in the hospital for a few days causing me to miss 3 days of work. I submitted an online claim and after seven days (5 business & 2 weekend days) my claim was still pending review & approval. After day #3 of submitting my claim, I began calling in daily to ask if there was anything further needed from me. I was told very sarcastically (in my opinion) that I would have been notified if something further was needed. I had asked why the claim was still pending review & approval and was told that "We are very busy". When I asked the CSR if I could speak to a manager, they advised me that the Manager would only tell me the same thing. I held twice from 10 to 15 minutes trying to speak to a manager and finally gave up. I was very disappointed with the customer service that I experience and in my opinion, would not recommend them.

The worst dental insurance on the planet!!! I had cigna dental 31 years in Florida, never had a problem. I had a government job in Indiana and it was presented as an extra policy offering, it looked really good so I took it out. That was a major mistake. I got stuck with 98% of the bill and then they had the audacity trying to get me to sign a paper in the mail authorizing double my premium. Because that company's HR department was really weak, I could not stop the deductions out of my pay until open enrollment. I no longer work for the company so that is not an issue. At least it's my back tooth only, Long story short stuck with a temporary crown on my back tooth for about a year and it will stay there until the tooth breaks off and needs pulled.

I called in the January 4th to surrender my universal life insurance policy. I hadn’t worked for the company in 5 years and they were taking out the premium out of the cash value. I was sent an Adobe sign form. I was told it would take 5 business days to cancel. I checked in with the customer service through the online portal on January 10th. They stated they did not receive it and to fill out another form. I did this again and then checked in them again. I was told they received it. I checked on it again on January 16th. They told me there was an issue receiving the documents and they received it on January 15th. I once again checked in o. The surrender form on January 23 through the chat. I was told it was processing. I told them it had been 5 business days. They told me due to high volume it could take longer. I then told them that not one person I spoke to said any such thing.
I then decided to talk to a live person. I literally talked to 6 different people and after talking to a supervisor they told me that the form was filled out wrong. They stated I sent I forms which I only filled out 2. Not to mention when I was talking to the many representatives the 4th one said, "Let me transfer you to the right department." The miscommunication is deplorable not to mention I have to wait an additional 5 days for it to process. If my future employers were to use this company I would decline and go without or find my own company. I am completely unsatisfied with the communication.

Tried to file a claim, it was too difficult to do. Wanted me to sent all the records by pdf. I don't have the ability to turn my paper records into a computer file and got no help from customer service. So I finally decided to cancel my policy. I spent 20 minutes on hold. We were visited twice today by the same independent sales rep during a very busy day. We told them we would give their card to the appropriate person and they would call if they were interested. They showed up again with a very long line. We are not interested in this service and this isn’t even our call to make as we are corporate. There is no info to reach out and get taken off the list either. We don’t have time for this nonsense. It’s so inappropriate to show up at a very busy place of business twice in one day. We are corporate and cannot even make a decision about this service. It seemed extremely predatory and pushy and honestly uncomfortable. If I could leave no stars, I would.

I will cancel these policies at my current employer when they come up in January and I will not allow my wife to sign up with her next employer when she hopefully recovers from this illness.

I have never been more dissatisfied with a service. I have been a member since 2011 and they used to be great. However for the last few claims I have had to call and follow-up as my claims have not been processed in the 5-7 business days they state on the claims portal. My last claim is by far an insult. I uploaded my claim with all the necessary documents to the claims portal on 8/28/23. I called on 9/11/23 and they said I had to wait 10 business days. So I did and nothing. On 9/13/23 I called again and they said they were going to escalate it (I spoke to a supervisor) and to give it 2 more days.
Again today 9/15/23 I called as nothing changes on my status and was told again to wait 2 more business days that they were going to escalate it. I requested to speak to the supervisor's supervisor and was transferred to a lady by the name of Karin. She said there was no one above her and sorry but she couldn't do anything else. I assume at this point my claim may just sit there forever as no one can do anything but keep adding business days to wait with no results. I strongly recommend staying away from this company as their customer service, productivity and delivery of the product they advertise have clearly gone down the drain. Go with Aflac instead.
