This is one of the worst Insurance companies I have ever dealt with! The level of ignorance and lying in this company is beyond nothing but scamming! I will share full scenarios sooner! If there is a way to avoid this company, run, run, run! Run for your peace of mind and everything! Customer care is far below average! If negative infinite reviews existed, I would give it with receipts!

I can honestly say that this is LITERALLY the worst Insurance company that I have ever dealt with. AFI's insured crossed lanes and hit my vehicle. It has now been 6 months, and the claim is not settled. I followed all of the proper steps and have followed up several times and requested a supervisor call back (which I have yet to receive). The only contact that has been initiated by AFI is that I received a claim form after filing the claim, which was filled out and returned expeditiously. Yet still no settlement. I went to their preferred body shop for an estimate, yet no settlement.

They are advising me that since their insured did not report the accident, they are not able to pay. There were multiple vehicles involved, so I find it hard to believe that no one else has called. ABSOLUTELY horrible customer service and sense of urgency. If I could rate them negative 5 stars I would. There are always high call volumes, and you hold for minimum of 30 mins, they have an automatic call back feature that has yet to call me back.

Bought a new car. The dealer said I had to have ins. They gave me this company. Who took $588. I canceled the ins 1 day later when I researched that they gave me really low coverage for a brand new car and charged me way too much. I was told they canceled the ins & sent the details to the “review” board for refund. LIARS. I never heard from anyone and never got a refund. Then was charged the next month! They are a bunch of Scammers stealing people's money!!

I hard to turn them in to the Illinois Insurance Review Board first of October for an accident that happened in July. Their insured rear-ended my stopped vehicle at a stop sign. Even after they responded and had an adjuster look at it, took another 3 1/2 weeks and they took off $600 for comparative negligence on a $2,700.00 claim.

The insurance company does charge a lower rate, however after more than 3 years of coverage we had our first accident. Someone hit our car and kept going, our car was parked outside of our home. My husband called and was treated like he was the one who committed a crime, fraud and broke the law. He was asked “are you even working?” The entire experience was stressful but to have a company who does not have your back is sad, especially when you are at an emotional state when someone hits your favorite car and keeps right on going.

We had to almost stalk them for the check to be sent to their suggested repair company and the excuses for no response was simply it’s due to Covid and they were working from home. I said, well so am I but I do not get to not actually work because I’m at home. We finally got the car repaired after MONTHS of calling to ask for the check and yet, even their repair company did a below average repair job, that still needs to be finished-which of course they refuse to accept as their responsibility. We of course cancelled our insurance coverage and went to another company. No one attempted to ask why. A recovery email was sent once (still not asking why we cancelled). So their service is just not service. In summary, don’t let the cute radio jingle make you feel covered. Pay a little more to make sure you get the coverage and support a consumer deserves.

An American Freedom insured rear-ended our vehicle on 12/20/21. My 90 yr old Aunt was in the passenger seat, my daughter was in the back seat and I was the driver. My Aunt was rushed to the hospital due to stomach pain and her age. Fortunately we all walked away with little injury. A claim was turned in with American Freedom by their insured on 12/20. After 2 wks of hour after hour holding with trying to reach an adjuster at American Freedom, we turned in our claim with our own carrier (State Farm). Finally American Freedom reached out to us on 1/19/22. Fortunately we are insured with a stellar company and State Farm has already taken care of us (a totaled vehicle and med bills).

I am in the insurance industry and this is by far the WORST carrier I have ever experienced. Pay a little extra if you must but DO NOT insure with these folks. Remember we pay premiums so in the event of a covered cause of loss they will respond accordingly and in a timely matter. It's all about service and how they handle a claim at the end of the day - Good luck American Freedom, I don't see you staying in business much longer. If I could rate you as a negative -10 I would.

If there was a way to leave no stars for this company, I would. One of their insurance clients hit my parked car. I have been waiting two weeks for payment. Each time I call I am told the process have to go through more steps. I have spent hours on paperwork and phone calls to this company. Today I waited 30 minutes on hold, just to be told nothing will happen until next week. I have been without a car for 3 weeks thanks to a young man who couldn't properly park his oversized vehicle in a parking spot. No apology, no payment, no help from American Freedom Insurance Company. I would not recommend this company.

Horrible and unethical business practices. AF insurance made up excuses so they don’t have to pay out claims. My parked vehicle was struck by their insured driver and they gave excuses and refused to pay the claim. Horrible business. They have a history of refusing claims. Stay away.

The scam: American Freedom Insurance Company advertises itself as the Company with a Long Term Perspective. That is exactly their modus operandi: they stall and cheat in the hope you will walk away without the money they owe you. As you can read from the reviews here, they are a very shady company. As others reported they will keep your claim under review because they claim that they could not talk to their client to confirm the story. After a period of being unable to talk to their client they will complete “their review” and reject the claim. Mind you, our car was rear-ended by their client and their inspector confirmed that the damage was at the back of our car. On the day of the crash their client agreed with us that it was her fault in front of the police officer who said it was not necessary to draw up a police report when both parties agree whose insurance will need to pay for the damage.

After their rejection of the claim I filed a complaint with the Illinois Department of Insurance (the main office of American Freedom is in Illinois). This is a governmental department whose mission it is to protect consumers by providing assistance and information, by efficiently regulating the insurance industry's market behavior and financial solvency. They initiated a formal investigation and contacted American Freedom Company. Suddenly the company called me, stated that their client finally spoke with them and they could pay the claim. But…their client had an insurance policy with a maximum of $5,000 per accident. So, after more than 2 months without the car, this bad excuse for an insurance company paid up for that capped amount.

Here is my advice: When you get hit by someone with American Freedom Insurance: call the police for a police report on the spot, otherwise they will fail to get the story corroborated by their client and reject your claim. When they open their box of tricks to avoid their responsibility: complain formally to the Illinois Department of Insurance, you can submit online. (**). For any legal support call your local car accident lawyer, they provide free consultations and they only charge when they win your case and they recoup both the payment for the damage and their legal fees from the insurance and their (under)insured client. They also provide important medical advice on bodily injury. Good luck to all victims of this company, stay clear from American Freedom Insurance!

I was hit by one of American Freedom's clients on 12-13-2019. It is now 1-17-2020 and not only is my car not fixed the only time I speak to anyone from this company is when I call them. How can a company like this be allowed to exist. I really hope if you have this company for your insurance needs you so not need to use them. You will be dead before your car gets fixed.
