The most recent claim I had with American Home Shield was for when my pool filter motor died. I submitted it online and it's very easy. Also, dealing with their reps and their contractor was good. Everything was outside and as long as I give permission, they were able to go in the backyard and do what they needed to do without me actually being there. That was convenient and the pool filter now seems to be working fine.
I am glad that we were able to repair your pool filter motor just in time for the summer! We appreciate your for choosing American Home Shield as your home warranty provider.

I had a problem with the dishwasher and filed a claim with AHS over the phone which was a quick process. But the tech came with a part the first time thinking that that's what was needed and it was for the wrong dishwasher. If he had known the model number of the dishwasher before he came he would have had the correct part and it wouldn't require two visits. But it's not his fault. Whoever called the appliance repair person should have given him the model number of the dishwasher before he came so that when he did he was prepared. But normally the contractors AHS sent out have been good. My only complaint is that American Home Shield continues to go up in price and has gone up a lot. I started off with a $50 fee and now it's up to $100.

I'm very happy with American Home Shield. I put in a claim for a thermostat and burner problem. I did it on the phone and the representative was absolutely fine and pleasant. Everything went well, except the person who was supposed to come took a little bit longer than we would have liked. But we did okay in the end. The repair was done, everything has been good, and we're satisfied. However, I got something saying that I was delinquent in my payment even though I had set it up so that it would come out of my account every month.
I am glad that we were able to repair your thermostat and burner in such a timely manner. Thank you for allowing AHS the pleasure to service your repairs.

I've been using American Home Shield for two and a half years and my experience with them has always been excellent. 60 days ago, the pilot light on our heater wouldn't light up. I called them and their representative was very friendly. The next day, they sent a contractor out to check the pilot light. He was really nice and had a lot of good advice for us. It was a simple fix and the heater has worked perfectly since the repair.

American Home Shield was really good. We have to pay $100 deductible and we call them if anything goes wrong. I had a booster pump put in my pool and submitting the claim with American Home Shield was great and they did an excellent job. The contractor they sent out was friendly, on time and they told me that they were coming. Then they showed up and did everything they're supposed to do. Everything has been fine since the repair. Overall, dealing with AHS has been good and I'd recommend them.

Had issues with some smoke alarms, submitted a request via their website. Immediately a contractor that lived FORTY FIVE MILES AWAY was assigned. I called to inquire and was told if I'd just called in the request instead of using their website they could have found someone closer, and to change now (three hours later) would result in "a lot of paperwork." After a pretty unprofessional service call, to which the contractor indicated he would need to contact AHS to verify if my contract covered the necessary repair, I waited two business days and contacted AHS again, this time to learn my contractor still hadn't reached out to them (or me, still hasn't a week later), but that it "didn't matter since smoke alarms weren't covered."
I did more research and discovered my contractor was littered with F ratings online, in addition to not being accredited with the Better Business Bureau. Why would you waste my time and money (and other's) with shady characters/businesses that are nowhere near me? And the best part? While this company has a complaint department, they are unwilling to disclose a telephone number or email address: only a mailing address for note-writing is accepted.
Hi Mike, I apologize for this situation that you are experiencing with your smoke alarms. I value your feedback and the chance to resolve any issues that our customers may have. I have called and left you a message with contact information. I look forward to hearing from you to bring this to resolution.

This has been a very difficult experience. I've been a finance director for a multiple franchised dealership. Working with service contracts and helping clients who need my advice. We have gone months without heat, in Pennsylvania... in the middle of winter! They recently had a technician explain it was the hot water heater that ran throughout the heating system who was the culprit. They authorized the repair. We thought this was a miracle, finally heat!! Well, after they removed the hot water heater they realized it was the wrong model. Now we sit without both heat nor hot water. With children in the house as young as 3!
Hi Vincent, I apologize for the inconvenience that you experienced with your hot water heater. I value your feedback and the chance to resolve any issues that you may have. I will look into this matter and follow up with you soon.

I have been working with AHS regarding my broken pool heater for the past 2 weeks. My pool heater broke. The technician that came out stated that the heater broke approximately 6 month + based on visual estimate. I bought my house 4 month ago therefore AHS denied based on pre-existing condition. However, I have a home inspection report from when I purchased my house stating the heater is in fact working 4 month ago when I bought the house. AHS representative stated if I can provide the proof, it should be covered. I faxed and emailed the report. Then, I called back. The representative initially told me it's been "overturned" and therefore approved. I was happy. However, when I called back, the next representative denied this ever happened and stated that it was under review still.
I been calling for the past week. Each time I call, I'm on hold for 20 minutes then I spend 30min-1hour explaining and answering questions with a customer service representative who states someone from the appeal department would call me back with the decision. They said only the representative who helped me initially can appeal it. I have spend 8+ hours on the phone and still no callback or explanation. Each time, the customer service representative, including escalation department supervisor cannot solve the issue yet no one in appeal department associated with the original representative who reviewed the case calls back. I am extremely frustrated with this situation.
Ms. Lee, thank you for allowing AHS to provide your home warranty needs. We have appreciated your patience as we worked to address and resolve your concerns. Thanks!

My experience when submitting the claim for our dishwasher was reasonable. I went online and called the contractor that AHS picked rather than wait for them to call me. They sent a guy from Sears who diagnosed the issue right away and fixed it. I’d recommend AHS.

We've had a couple of claims previously with American Home Shield and they were pretty smooth. But the current one was a nightmare. The claim started in January and we asked somebody to come in and look into it. They came and they did some mistake. The guy said he will look into it but he never listened to us and went away. He was also rude so I told my wife to not worry about it and that I will call AHS. We requested them to send another one but they said they cannot send it unless I pay them $75 but if the diagnose is different, then we don't need to pay. I told them to forget about it. I knew definitely that's not our fight.
Then, they came in and the guy said it's not our fault. He diagnosed differently and he said he's gonna come back to fix it. He came back after four or five weeks and then he was not able to fix it. He said that he moved to another company. They came and did twice but they were not able to do it. They called another company and that company said it's going to take us. Then there came another one and they said they were gonna send a technician as soon as he had a technician. But those guys did not schedule an appointment and they didn't show up. We called twice and they didn't pick up. Then, we called American Home Shield and told them about it. They called us back and they said they'll schedule and they solved the issue. But it took almost three months to process.
Some of the vendors are not very knowledgeable and have to be really looked into. I don't care whatever it is but they should not be rude to my wife. Being customers, that really is important. Another thing was we had an initial premium of $65 or $60 per month and AHS increased it to $100 per month. We referred my brother and my brother-in-law to them. They live in the same community that neighbors to us and they still pay $55 per month. I don't know why they want $100 from us per month. But of course, in a certain angle, AHS has helped and they responded to every call.

Submitting a claim with American Home Shield was easy. I had a problem with my microwave and I made a claim through their website. The repair looked good but then it had the same problem so I recalled the service. Other than that, my experience with AHS was mostly positive.

I called American Home Shield recently because of my ice maker and it was a good experience. They had technicians come out when they said they would. They were polite and very nice in assessing the problem. They ordered a part, came back, and put it in. The technician was awesome, so I couldn't be happier. The ice maker is working so well and although it sometimes freezes the whole tray, that's okay. We also had a fix care service for the air conditioner. Overall, the experience was seamless.

I have submitted two claims to AHS but there were problems with both of them and only one was successful. The work that was done was quite excellent. The first time was for a problem with the pool. The man did not do a thorough job and he didn't clean up after himself and it wasn't fixed. The second time, when he came back, it was like night and day. He was totally different. He was nice, informative, and helpful. And as I remember, that day, I gave him a tip and he didn't even wanna take it. I said, "No, it's okay. Please. You had a bad day yesterday. We all have them." He fixed the problem and he was wonderful. So I just chalked it up that everybody has a bad day and this was a bad day for him. But the next one was a bit more serious and a bit more aggravating.
The service people they sent for my dishwasher was from Sears and I had never had such poor service. The tech didn't show up three times and they never called to tell me he wasn't coming. It went back and forth and finally when the technician did get here, he wasn't aware of all this that was going on. I had called Sears service and they had told me that it would be handled and as a courtesy, I wouldn't have to pay the $75 to it. They were waiving it and I thought it was taken care of. But when the serviceman got here, he knew absolutely nothing about it. So he called whoever he was supposed to talk to and it was straightened out.
And then about six weeks later, I got a dunning letter from American Home Shield that they were going to cancel my policy because I owed money. So that's a bit of back and forth to get it straightened out and then I got an email that I owed them $75 and again, my policy is being cancelled. And at that time, I called up a lady again and I told them "This was straightened out. I spoke with someone and they told me it was taken care of and now you're doing this again to me." The first lady rep I talked to had given me a confirmation number so I was able to give her that information and at that point she did apologize and it was finally worked out.
As far as the service, the first one was fine but it was bad looking. And the other one, the booking was excellent but the service was bad. But both things eventually worked themselves out. If they have another service, that'll be the charm if they'll get their act together on both sides of the coin. But so far, it has been problematic. There were a lot of stuff I had to handle that I don't think I should have had to handle.

Our pool pump suddenly stopped working so I logged a request online with American Home Shield. It was a smooth process. Usually I submit the claims through the website, and when I had to call them a few different times, I was not on long hold. Then they called me and said they were gonna send somebody out, and then that contractor came. They fixed the problem, we left them a check, and our pool pump has been working fine ever since. Their customer service reps help solve the problems and are always nice.

I had a leaky pipe. Tried to pull up my contract with AHS on their website to see what is and isn't covered. The website continuously says "PDF unavailable", I tried several computers to be sure it wasn't a problem on my end. I went ahead and put in a service request. The company that responded failed to show up for their appt., after several calls, another appt. was scheduled. I attempted to give details about my leak and was told, "No just tell them when they get there." The guy finally arrives and says my leak isn't covered and leaves! I called the company for clarification because I was still was unable to access my contract online. I explained my problems with the website and the contractor, asked if they had a customer service department that I could speak with since the woman that answered had no answers and only attitude for me. I was told there wasn't a customer service department!
I said, "Ok I want to cancel my contract," and of course was transferred and placed on an endless hold. I called back, spoke to someone else and they said I needed the customer service department!?? I was connected to customer service and told them to cancel my contract. I was offered a credit for my next service request, but refused a refund for the $100 I was already out, they refused. I again asked to cancel my service and was told that it would cost $68.31 to cancel! Everybody I dealt with was rude, and it actually sounded like I was "transferred " to the same rude woman I started with.
This company is dishonest, rude, and unwilling/unable to provide quality service. My water has been off for two days trying to get this resolved. Now I have to pay for the repair myself and I don't have the money because they took my $100! I have 6 children at home, they don't deserve this, and neither do I! I wouldn't suggest this company to my worst enemy. Disgusted!

I am posting exactly how I responded to AHS directly:
I spoke with Nicole at length the other day. She listened to all of my issues and addressed them. Although I still believe AHS should revamp their policies concerning Air Conditioning repair, I am satisfied with the outcome. I hope to continue my relationship with AHS and review the limitations of my policy before I blindly renew it. Again, I want to make it known if I had spoken to someone like Nicole from the beginning I don't think it would have had to go so far as me complaining on a consumer site. AHS, please take note how valuable she is and how some other reps may need better training on how to deal with customers.
Again, this has been resolved to my satisfaction and I am reevaluating my score to four stars. I hope after some time I can update this to five as my relationship with AHS continues.

Let me start out by saying service has not always been this bad. I have been a customer with AHS for over ten years. Over the last few I have been noticing a increase in the lack of care given to us as customers. We have had several issues with bad plumbers sent to our house but in the end the situation was rectified so we kept with AHS.
Recently one of our two A/C units went down. This unit has gone down almost every year for the last 7 years and each time AHS send out the same incompetent people to repair it. This year the same unit went out again. This time it is the compressor. The last time I spoke with AHS last year they said to me considering the fact the unit was consistently problematic the next time they would go ahead and replace it. The tech came out said they "could" replace the compressor but it does not make sense to do so and he would recommend replacing it especially since it uses R22 and it will be obsolete soon as it is.
Next thing I know the manager or owner of the AC place calls me to set up a time to come out and replace the compressor. Leaving me with a $1400.00 bill to replenish the R22. I called AHS on this and they were completely unsympathetic and in some cases rude. Not to mention they offered me a 2nd opinion and then retracted it stating there was no one else in my area they could send and I would have to use the crooked company that conveniently gets to come out year after year. What a way to piss off a long time customer! I guess I will be looking elsewhere when my contract is up. I suggest you all do the same. Long hold times, compassionless personnel, and not true to their word. Bad form AHS!
Benjamin, we would like to thank you for being a loyal customer of AHS for ten years! We regret to hear that you have encountered a less than satisfactory experience recently, as we strive to exceed our customer's expectations. As a long time customer, we know that you must see value in the warranty, although there are still sometimes some out of pocket costs due to the limitation of contract coverage. We would like to speak with you to address your concerns. We will be reaching out to you soon. Thanks.

I had a very bad experience with AHS and it is just total ripoff. I had an issue with the water heater which has to replaced. I have been a customer for 4 years and paying premium of 50/Month. Now they want to replace and they came up with charges which I need to pay from my pocket around 610 which is more than the Heater itself if I buy it from Home Depot and installation will be 300. My impression was that AHS will cover everything and it's a surprise to see the charges I need to pay from my pocket. It is just a total ripoff. So I don't recommend AHS at all. I am cancelling now.
Mr. Doe, we value all feedback to improve our processes and we'd like to help. Please provide a good contact number and/or your full property address so that we can assist if you have an ongoing issue. Thanks.

Whenever I call to submit a claim, sometimes I get someone right away. But sometimes I have to hang up a couple of times, and sometimes it's the busy time and they always ask to leave my number and they will call me back. So I try to understand that because that's just some highs and lows. There are peak times when people call especially in the winter and we always have bad weather. In my whole time it's about twice that I've gone through a problem when no one got back to me right away but that's fine.
But the experience in claims is always on the very good one though it depends on who I get. The last, they're not very helpful. Sometimes they're just back and forth but the people who came out were very good. My most recent claim was with the plumbing. There was a leak in the sink and he came out and fixed it. Sometimes I run into some issues like them asking me questions I wouldn't know the answer but she said it is okay. I told her if she can set an appointment for me right away because it's leaking. She said no and they will email me all the information. She also gave me the number I can call.
The technician was very good. He said he'll go pick something up, and then he came back and fixed the problem. Overall they're very good, understanding, sympathetic and listen more than abruptly try to get me off. I haven't got much of a complaint but the customer service can be difficult. I've recommended AHS to lots of people.

I was contacted by a customer service agent named Stacy, and she was the most professional and helpful person that I have been in contact with from this company. She was able to recommend that I get a second opinion from another plumber. I contacted a local plumbing company and confirmed that my repair was something that should have been covered. I did have to pay out of pocket for the repair up front, but Stacy came through, and I just received a check for the full amount of my repair in the mail. My experience with Stacy from American Home Shield is the main reason I am considering renewing my warranty with them next year.

My sump pump at my house started spraying water out, so I called American Home Shield to file a claim, because it said in my contract with them that plumbing was covered, including sump pumps. I had a company assigned to the case, and they came to my house late, which caused me to have to wait needlessly, and when they went to look at the sump pump, they didn't touch anything or do any real work to diagnose the issue, but they assured me they knew what was wrong with it.
I waited several weeks without an answer, and then I get a phone call from American Home Shield that they wouldn't cover the repair at all. I told them that under my agreement plumbing was covered, and I wanted them to tell me where in my warranty it said that this diagnosis would not be covered. They could not find anywhere that said my repair would not be covered, so they put me on hold, and then hung up on me. I called back and got another customer service associate who I talked to for over half an hour, and they were unable to find a place in my agreement that said my repair should not be covered. They had to go to a supervisor to find a loophole in the agreement so that they would not cover my repair.
When I pay money for a warranty that is supposed to give me peace of mind, the company should not try to find any way out of paying for a repair. I will make sure to let everyone I know, including realtors, and other real estate websites that American Home Shield is a terrible company that should not be trusted. I will not be renewing my contract with them, and I will make sure to do everything in my power to stop anyone I know from purchasing a home warranty with them.
Mr. McMahan, we would like to thank you choosing American Home Shield to provide your warranty needs! We regret to hear that you have encountered a less than satisfactory experience, as we strive to exceed our customer's expectations. There is a lot of value in having a warranty with American Home Shield, although there are still sometimes additional out of pocket costs due to the limitation of contract, as well as situations that are not covered by the warranty. We would like to speak with you to address your concerns, and as a first year customer, review your coverage in detail with you. We will be reaching out to you soon. Thanks.

About a month ago, our water heater wasn't making hot water anymore so I sent in a claim with AHS. I got somebody assigned and they came out the same day and fixed it. That was a very smooth process and a good experience. However, some things are very hit-and-miss. Sometimes I get a good contractor and sometimes I get a terrible one. More often than not, it's a disappointing one wherein, when I call them, I can't get through or I'm on hold for a half-hour. They want to schedule me, but it can take a few days to get a date when they're going to come out. In fact, I had experiences wherein I got frustrated and I couldn't get them on the phone to schedule, or the contractor came out, needed more stuff, but then I can't get a hold of him. We've also had some techs who don't speak English and some are lazy. Usually, we cringe when we are waiting to see who the assigned contractor is.
But as for our water heater problem, it was perfect. I placed the order request online, got my email confirmation from American Home Shield about who the contractor was, their phone number, and my reference number. I called the contractor and it got through pretty quickly. They said the tech would be out that day and he showed up on time. It took him an hour to fix the heater, I paid the fee, and everything was great. We had a very nice time. Every now and then, I'd get someone like that. But more often than not, it's not that pleasant.
Additionally, if AHS wants to fix something, they should be quicker. If I know there's somebody who is on their list of contractors and I've used them before and liked them, I don't understand why I can't request them and why I have to be randomly assigned to a terrible company when I know there's one or two good ones I've used in the past. The other thing that's really frustrating is when I am frustrated with a contractor, it's impossible to get them fired and have them give me somebody else.
Hi Richard, I apologize for the inconvenience that your have experienced with previous contractors, but I am glad to hear that you had a great experience with your most recent issue regarding your hot water heater. The oven stopped getting hot, so I went online, and put a request in. American Home Shield said that someone will contact me. Then I got a text and an email who it’s going to be. That company then called, scheduled an appointment and their service guy came in on time. He told me the heating element in the oven went out and before he did the work, he explained to me what was going on. I thought he would need to order the part and I would have to wait. But he just went to his truck, got the part, came back and placed it. He was quick and he fixed the issue. He also set expectations, saying it was going to have a smell because it's new. He told us to let it sit for five minutes and the smell will go away. We did that and there's no more smell. After that, I got a notification that they took the money out of the account. And I’ve been using the oven every day.
I really like submitting the claim online because I don’t like having to call. And it’s a lot easier because it’s available 24 hours a day and simple. I’m usually busy and in the times that I have to handle my personal matters, either it’s really late and most places are closed. The long wait time during calls is just a hassle. So I need something that's simple and easy to get through. I’ve signed up for the service years ago but I didn’t keep it. I didn’t see the value of it, but my dad kept saying to do it again. So I signed up with American Home Shield again but this time, I just went online.

My original complaint is that it has taken 72 hours to get response from AHS and a local HVAC service provider for furnace repair. We've been without heat all this time. More importantly, the local vendor by the name of Mr. Absolutely Fabulous HVAC, LLC (can you believe the name?) has on its website a link to Arms.com which is a weapons and arms "marketplace". Really, what is this all about and why is American Home Shield letting its vendors promote arms sales?! On top of it, based on previous experience, we believe Mr. Absolutely Fabulous is incapable of servicing Carrier Products, which is the brand of our furnace. This whole AHS insurance deal comes off as the worst possible scam.

I have been a great customer, paying my American Home Shield bill on time every month for the past 3 years. Now that I need a repair the true colors of American Home Shield show. I have been dealing with a broken stove request for 3 months. The customer service of American Home Shield saddened me, the American Home Shield employees I've spoken to have had no clue of what is going on with my request. Every phone call, of me having to ask about the repair and get the same response pains me. I personally ended up paying for two service fees due to a home shield contractor's error. Beware, if you have rental properties, your tenants may be let down.

When I have a claim, I call American Home Shield and tell them what it is. Then they tell me who's going to come and follow up with an email. It works perfect and I have not had any problems with any of the work that's been done. The last time I called was about my water heater leaking. But when the guy came out here, he found out it wasn't the water heater. But he fixed it and he was real friendly. He was great and I like him. As a matter of fact, if I have any more plumbing problems I would ask for him. However, it looks like the warranty's going up every year because on my first year, it was $58. Then for my new contract, which started on February, it went up to $60.99. They said that it was because the rates were going up in my area. But there's no way I can verify that and I don't like that. If it goes up again next year, I'm going to be looking for something else.

American Home Shield has been very good. I almost get an instant response online and it’s much better than searching in the dark for repairmen. Ten years ago, I had to replace my stove and their buying power on appliances is excellent which is one of the reasons I belong to AHS. Then one time, a couple of years back, we had a repair on our microwave. The repairman was a lovely man who worked very hard but he was having difficulty getting a part. I also didn't quite understand why the repair cost over $500 and they didn't replace the microwave. But it was their decision and I got my microwave. My most recent claim was when the coil in the bottom of my electric oven was on fire so they had to replace it. I'd recommend AHS to a friend.
I would like to thank you for the years of patronage to American Home Shield. W appreciate hearing about the great experiences our customers have encountered.

We had a leaking sink in one of our bathrooms at a vacation home. We called AHS and they gave us an appointment in the next five or six days and that's when we were leaving. They were unable to come out. I turned the water off so that it wasn't leaking all the time. We're very disappointed on that. When we got back, we called AHS again the first day and said we need to get someone out to fix this thing. They set up the appointment almost immediately, came out two days later and fixed it. There were a bunch of clean towels stacked up in the cabinet underneath the sink and the technicians got about half of those wet somehow in fixing the sink. We just had to rewash and dry them.
They did not bill me at that time, which I thought was unusual. Normally, whoever the contractor is takes a credit card. Then I received a couple of emails from American Home Shield saying that I'm past due on this invoice which I never received. Other than that, I've been serviced four times maybe by American Home Shield and we've been basically happy with all of them. This last one, I'm happy with getting the sink fixed but wasn't real happy with how we had to wait a month and a half to fix the darn thing and how long it took and two appointments, and then the billing.

My air conditioner went out. I submitted a claim online and the dispatcher called me to make the appointment locally and then I waited for my appointment. The contractors sent had been fine. However, they’ve had to come back with a part. And every year I've had to have something done to my air conditioning, so I am a little concerned with that. And I don't know if I can completely blame that on them. But I have recommended AHS.
I would like to thank you for recommending AHS to others. I appreciate your feedback and I hope that you don't have any further issues with your AC unit.

I filed a claim for an electrical work. The process was easy and went smooth, however, the rep I talked to couldn’t answer any of my questions and wasn’t sure of anything I was asking. So, I ended up hanging up and doing everything online. The technicians were great. They described everything that they're doing, what was wrong and how they're going to fix it, and they fixed it. It was done fairly quickly. I would use them again if we needed them. The overall experience was very good and the response was fast after putting the claim in with AHS.

I have been having an issue with my stove since 7/30/2016. The contractor they set me up is woefully inadequate to take of the job. It took me calling both the contractor and the AHS to get this resolved and each time AHS would just pass the buck and not get back with me on a status of either switching over to a new contractor or some status from the original contractor. Now I am on the phone with them now as of 3/20/2017 and after several phone calls they finally decided to switch contractors. They didn't take the initiative to realize if they cannot get in contact with original contractor to go ahead and switch contractors and let me know. Their customer service staff is woefully ill-equipped to handle this issue and I am still on hold now as they finally try to escalate me to Contractor support. Save your money and take the money you would pay in premiums and put it in a savings account for a rainy day. It ain't worth it.

This is by far the worst company I have had to work with. I have had so many issues with this company. I called in a service request for my garbage disposal which is cover. Tech came out, plunged the stopped up sink and got product info for the disposal. Never came back out to replace. Called AHS and informed them of this. That the stopped up sink was not the issue, but from of the broken disposal not working. Job was marked as complete. I had to buy my own and replace this. Spoke with a local AHS rep, was asked to send in proof of purchase for my purchase of disposal. They told me they would refund my money for this and apologized for the confusion. Never heard back from this over month ago.
My other service call was on a microwave that wasn't working. Tech came out, turned off breaker, said it was a magnetron (which is covered), wouldn't touch it since it was hardwired even though he diagnosed the problem knowing that it was like this. So AHS contacted a electrician to come out. Electrician came out and he wouldn't touch it and wouldn't even unhook it even after showing tech a breaker. It was already off when he arrived. I offered AHS that I will disconnect this microwave, just fix my microwave!!!
Now tack on the fact it's at least 25 minutes per phone call to get someone on the line to hear "hold please". That was 3 calls for a microwave. Called in a request on a ceiling fan, was told it was covered. Apparently not. Tech came out. However back in July that ticket is still open from nearly a year ago. Save your money. They cover next to nothing. What they do cover they drag out and never follow through.

I generally had a good experience with American Home Shield and I'm happy sticking with them. The one claim that we had was some leaking issue in the garage. I submitted the claim through mobile and it was good and quick. My husband interacted with them directly and he was happy with the result. The only thing with them was that the issue was a little bit urgent and there's a bit of a wait time. It was one second to file the claim but you need to wait for somebody to get back to you. Then you’d miss the call and then you have to call back and they schedule it a few days after. If there's any way AHS can shorten that period, that would be great. We're still monitoring their repairs because it may get more complicated issues, but it's working so far.

I would not recommend American Home Shield. I’ve called them four times about my air conditioner and different things but they never paid for anything. I have one air conditioner upstairs and one downstairs, but they're not cooling and it was 100 degrees outside. When I called them, they said that it just needed some Freon. The tech said that it's not covered except for the first pound, so I paid him for that. As soon as he left, within an hour, it wasn’t cooling again, but I couldn’t get in touch with anybody all weekend. I’ve also called the tech and left messages. What happens is if you already have a ticket going, you can’t fill another one out and it took five days before anybody got back out here.
When the other tech came out, he said that the A/C has a hole in it and it looks man-made. And I said, “Listen, I have not been out in there. The only person that has looked in that air conditioner was the other guy you sent.” He had let all the refrigerant out and it was $900 to replace all of that. AHS did nothing about it so I’m still not happy with that. It was cooling until he went out and within an hour, there was no air conditioning in my house. He took a picture of it and the tube had a big hole in it. No wonder it wasn’t cooling. I think the first guy did it by accident. He came in with nothing, went up in my attic and he didn’t even have a flashlight, and it ended up costing me a fortune. I wasn’t happy with the air condition people and that’s the worst experience I had.
Also, I’ve called them about th b e dishwasher and the garbage disposal, which had a hole in it so they replaced that. But that’s not covered so that was $350 plus the $75 I had to pay to AHS. The next day, my dishwasher was draining because there was a plug in the bottom of the garbage disposal that they forgot to take out. When I called them, the lady said that dishwashers are not covered. So I called the guy who did our garbage disposal and asked him if there was a possibility that he could’ve done something. He said yes, came right out, and took care of it. And he did what he was supposed to, was real nice and quick.
So I don’t know what AHS covers. They don’t cover garbage disposals, dishwashers, and air conditioners. They have different levels of warranty and I think what I have is the basic one. I got it when I bought a house as part of the deal so I’m sure they got the cheapest one but I wouldn’t more so recommend that again. I could just call an appliance person and get it done. Everything I’ve asked them about was not really covered and it was expensive, $800 for the whole year and $75 every time I call them. Hoping that they’d cover some of the cost but they haven’t so I won’t do it again.

Our $700 washing machine was broken. I called AHS and there's a lot of hold time, about 15 minutes, half an hour. They sent a guy out and he was great, but he has to report back to them to see what they're allowed to fix or not allowed to fix. Then he has to leave and then we have to make another appointment weeks later. AHS is offering us $300 to buy a new one but we can't afford it. They said that since it's a new one, it has to have its own manufacturer's warranty but why would they want me to use the warranty if I've paid them? That's the reason why we bought the contract. So we're still stuck with a broken washer and it's been a couple of weeks.
Hi Doug, I do understand that you have a frustrating situation that needs to be addresses as soon as possible and we are here to help. Long hold times as well as a delay in service can be an inconvenience. I'm in an area in the country where home warranties aren't as prevalent as they would be in the south. We're in New England and I only knew about home warranties from down in Florida, because everyone has them for their air conditioning and they live in places where everything breaks. But my two cents is now that appliances are such crap that having a warranty is one of the best ideas ever. I'm in the real estate and development industry and we used to offer, with new construction, a 2-10 Home Buyers Warranty. We stopped doing that a long time ago, but my initial goal was to have something to offer because we're an independent agency. So, we don't typically get involved in that and I haven't seen a lot of it lately with the agencies anymore.
We remodeled our home in 2005 and I bought the first generation of all the new high-end stuff from KitchenAid. I bought wholesale and it worked out great, but after five years everything starts to need work. I live in an expensive home and I spent ridiculous amounts of money on appliance repairs. I spent thousands of dollars on a 20-pound ice maker that we have at our kitchen bar. It was just stupid. My appliances are getting older, my appliance repair people can't seem to get these things done, and I'm just sick of spending money so, I started looking to replace them. When I sold one of the houses to some close friends of mine from New York last year, they have a different mindset of how things work. They had a home warranty and I went through it with them.
Then, shortly after I got the plan with American Home Shield, my dishwasher started acting funky. Because of memory, I called my appliance guy. They came out and said they needed a new pump. It cost me around $200 and it still didn't work right. I remembered I got a warranty company now and I called them. Then, I've got these drawers that come out of the counter and they're refrigerated. They're up against one wall. I call it a bar and next to the under the counter ice maker, there's these 26 and a half inches wide, counter-height two drawers with the wooden custom panels on it and you pull them out and it's a beverage center. I get them out of the refrigerator and the home warranty thought it's the refrigerator and that I need new refrigerated drawers. They've been very confused that I'm not looking for them to repair my refrigerator and I keep putting in refrigerated drawers.
I explained to the service guy that one of the problems with this set up is KitchenAid discontinued this model. I can get from Japan. They'll still manufacture the control board, but all the appliances today have these control boards with an overlay, like the TV remote control. The difference is the part where you push the buttons is put on adhesively. If you don't take that off correctly it can tear so you need to order both parts. They stopped manufacturing the overlay so I wasn't going to spend $300 for the part and then maybe they can make it work. Then, Sears came out. The guy that came said it's this control board. The part came in and he said it's all fixed. Then, they left and it still doesn’t work. It doesn't eject anything and it doesn't keep temperature. So, they'll be coming again on Monday because both of the appliances are still having issues but they only charge me one service charge.
But one thing is that we've had several calls already to get a couple of appliances repaired and the process isn't as smooth as it should be. Because I'll put in a call to home warranty that I need something done and then it could be several days before I get contacted because the work is performed through some kind of a contract with Sears appliance repair. What happens is it's not automatic. I often end up calling the Sears number and ask if anyone scheduled anything for my repair and they'll say no and we'll do it then. So, I'm wondering why didn't anyone contact me.
Through the learning curve, for someone who has never dealt with the home warranty program, there's a disconnect. The very first repair, I got a phone call or an email that said if I haven't heard from the repair people, to call this certain number. So I called the number and it was Sears appliance repair. Then I spoke to them and they said I needed to call the home warranty company. But the email said to call them so, I ended up calling the home warranty company and then wait for someone to do something. But it hasn't been a problem since then. They're responsive but you just have to do a little more effort.
But overall my experience so far is good and I haven't had to argue with AHS about anything yet. If I come to an impasse where they can't fix it, I'll have to go ahead and buy something new and we'll work it out. There's something in the contract that says if the appliance has to be replaced, they'll cover up 'til 3,000 per appliance. So, no matter how many appliances I buy a year for my projects in my home, I'm constantly dealing with it and all those appliances are expensive. I think it's a great idea as long as it all works.

I submitted a claim to AHS for my leaky shower. Everything I’ve had with their representative has been great. However, the contractor wanted to rip my whole bathroom apart so he could get into the wall. It took me 20 minutes to convince him that if he just stepped to the other side of the wall, he doesn’t have to cut the whole bathroom apart, he will just cut a little hole in the wall. Finally, I told him, “I'll just cut the hole. I’ll show you how to cut it.” He was like, “Oh, well, look at that.” And then finally, he fixed the shower. I walked over there and said it’s still dripping. He says, “No. It will stop dripping in about a minute.” Fair enough, about a minute later, it stopped dripping. And then about three hours later, it started dripping again and then stopped.
I called AHS again and they said, “We’re gonna put you in touch with his manager.” The manager said, “Send me some pictures of what's going on and I'll get right back with you.” I sent the pictures but I haven’t heard anything from them and it’s still a leaky shower. But at this point, I don't want to have him in there again because he left a lot of junk around, too. He didn't even caulk so I still had to finish the caulking and cleaning up. He also left all the gunk on the shower and I had to take all that off. So all in all, I'm not pleased with that part of the work. I’ll just buy the piece and put it in myself. I just haven’t gotten around to it yet.

I had some other contractors come in and redo my terrace level. When they pulled the furniture away from a corner, there was water damage and looked like mold. So I called American Home Shield and they sent someone out really quickly. It was an old water leak from something that I had gotten fixed back in September, but the company said if I see anything within the next 60 days, they’ll come back out with no charge. The contractor was very thorough and very professional. He examined all the areas to make sure there wasn’t a current leak. He went outside to make sure there was nothing going on. He said he could go through the wall and see if there’s still a water leak, but because everything was bone-dry when he knocked on the wall and looked outside, he went to the water shutoff and made sure that he didn’t hear anything from it. He was very good.
I had an account with AHS a couple of years ago but I canceled it because I wasn’t in the house a lot. I didn’t need a warranty to cover stuff I’m not using. When I came back into the country and started staying in the house a little bit more, I re-upped with them. I can make a claim online but I can’t see my current policy if I go to their website. What's showing is the old policy I had two years ago. I’ve reached out to them but they said they can’t do anything. They gave me an email address to email but I still can’t see my new policy.

When I had a plumbing issue, submitting a claim was not a problem, but getting someone to fix it was. I already paid for the service about six months ago, but the person who came and fixed it didn't do a good job. So I paid again for something that should have already been fixed. The guy who came over did a great job though. He even followed up which is the first time ever since I used someone that American Home Shield sent. A follow up on a plumbing issue that wasn't as dramatic just to make sure it held and if other repair needs to be made for a family with a newborn goes a long way with me.
However, nothing is ever easy with AHS. When my house was freezing, they can't get someone out though I have a newborn in my house. If they can't get someone and if I don't get approval from them to go with an outside contractor, then I eat the cost. If I have a serious enough problem that isn't fixed within 24 hours, then I'm gonna have a bigger problem. They need to reduce their timeframe in emergency situations like freezing temperature.
Also, my air conditioner is covered as per their policy, but they told me it's not. In the end, they wound up covering the cost and because of the problems they gave me where they would only pay $12 of the $25 per gallon of freon for an air conditioner, they ate the whole thing to make up for what they did to me. Without my insurance background, I would have been out about $2,000. So, I do not appreciate them and I'm not happy with them. AHS is horrible, but the cost that I save makes it justifiable. My stuff has always been covered because of the fight that I put up. If my wife gets a claim denied, I call up and it's covered.
The time I have to give up and the work I have to make up to fight with them during business hours is another problem. For anyone else without my background, AHS would not be an effective buy. They've denied things numerous times and in the end, they wanted to pay more because of my knowledge of insurance. I'm the President and CEO of an insurance company, but I don't throw that out right away. I throw it when they try to educate me.
I know more than they do because the people they have calling me are not trained in insurance. They're trained to say no. When I get on the phone with a supervisor who then tries to educate me and I explain to them what I know, all of a sudden they would say they would put it up to the next supervisor level and they'll have someone call me. And then, it starts with an apology, and they'd say they'll cover even things they wouldn't cover before because of what they put me through. But rather than crediting me my money back, they give me a credit of $75 to use towards my next service call. And I argued that and told them "What if I cancel the service based upon this poor service? I want my money back." They said, "No, that's how we do it." And they get me to leave them alone until the next call.
I got involved with AHS because I'm a former military member and they were a partner of USAA about 10 years ago. Within 2 years, they were no longer a partner with USAA, but I continued with them. And they can't just get rid of me because they're tired of paying claims. The reason AHS is no longer a partner with USAA is USAA doesn't wanna put their military members and their families through what I am experiencing. USAA thought that AHS was providing a benefit as a partner with a reduction in premium. However, members started complaining that though they're giving them a 10% reduction in premium, they're not getting the claims paid.
If another company came out that had a reputation that I couldn't compare, had security behind it, was another USAA partner, and would charge me double but I don't have to fight this way, maybe I will lose 20% in the long run but that 20% is worth it for my quality of life. That's how bad AHS is. I would never recommend them to a friend. I'm getting my house redone and I don't have to deal with AHS anymore which is one of the most exciting things for me for our renovations. I'll be able to minimize my cost with all-new appliances. I would only need coverage for the plumbing and stuff inside the wall.

It was a big relief off of me instead of going up there myself to let somebody in and stay there while they do their work. Needless to say, they were early and there was no question asked. My agent said the process went very smoothly and she was very pleased. They were punctual, very courteous and very thorough.

When we purchased our home in September of 2009, American Home Shield was one of the things that came with it. The seller had included it for a year in case there were any issues. And we were grateful we had it because we ended up having some issues so we continued it after that. The reps were polite. But there's quite a lengthy wait to get a hold of somebody and had to sit on hold for a while. And I have tried doing the online request, and I feel like I'm explaining to them more what the issue is on the phone than me trying to type out what I'm trying to do.
My gripe is we can go for years without using their service and our policy is $58 a month. Then, we have the $75 service fee whenever we use it. So, if you take out what we're paying a year, we could have already bought the appliance. If I'm using rounded off figures, it's $645 a year. And I may go two years without using it so, basically, I put out around $1,200 to $1,300 plus the service fee of $75. But I could have gotten a brand new, really high-quality appliance for that money. So if you don't use it excessively, you're actually losing money.
When we had a furnace issue, American Home Shield only covered $1,500 worth of our furnace and we still had to come up with $7,000. A furnace is $10,000. So, in all these years I've been with AHS, I could have bought a new furnace. A couple of years ago, I used it for my dishwasher. I hadn't used it prior to that for three years. And I paid the $75 service fee plus the $650 for a year for it. I went into Lowe's and could have bought a high-quality stainless steel dishwasher for $1,000. The warranty seems expensive for those of us who really don't use it a lot and only use it in an actual emergency. My suggestion is that American Home Shield should give vanishing deductible to people who don't repeatedly use the service. For example, if I don't use it for 18 months, then give me $15 off. And then if I don't use it for another year, then deduct it off to a certain point.
Also, the price is slowly climbing but we're not actually using it. And American Home Shield said it's because the cost of living goes up. My cost of living goes up too! And when I tried to explain this to their rep, she didn't seem to understand what I was saying. I talked to somebody the other day and they've got American Home Shield too. They said, "If you've been a faithful client for 10 years, take off a certain amount of money as an incentive to stay with them. Don't jack up their rates the longer you're with them." I like to be rewarded for not doing something or doing something correctly.

AHS is always great. had excellent interactions with their rep when I called a claim in for the dishwasher. They notify the repair people and the repair people will text or email me and say they would need to schedule an appointment. Last time it had to be a double repair trip and I had the same contractor come out twice. We put the pump in, it ran one-time and stopped. That same time, the board was going out, too, but we didn't know that. So he had to come back out and put the computer board in. I've only used the dishwasher a couple of times but so far, it's worked fine.
I am glad we have been able to fulfill your home requests and provide you with a great customer service experience while doing so.

Our dishwasher went out. After waiting almost a week for the plumber to come out and fix it they ended up doing more damage than good. Home Shield says they aren't responsible even though it was the company they sent out. Over a month later and 4 visits from said plumber still not fixed. Home Shield finally offers to help me get a new dishwasher but the one they offer isn't even comparable to the one I own. If you are looking for a home warranty company this is not the one to get!

My shower was horrible and the water would never go down, and it was a little easy to submit the claim online. It took a few days back and forth because I have to outsource, but once AHS got the company to come in, they took care of the job properly. The contractor was good and professional. He fixed my water system, my tub, and my pipes. He did a really neat job and I'm very satisfied with the service. Now, since he fixed it, everybody in the household is much happier. And it's much better to take a shower these days. American Home Shield did everything I asked and I really appreciate their help. They followed up and made sure that the job was completed. They are very professional. They listen and follow through. It's been a long time since I've been using them and I have no problems. Filed a claim with American Home Shield when I had a plumbing issue. I did it over the phone and their automated process was simple. The contractor called me back right away, we scheduled the appointment and it went great. The plumber who came out was very good. When I told him what the symptoms were, he walked outside and knew right away what it was. He was very knowledgeable and very pleasant. He pinpointed that it wasn’t a plumbing issue but was a problem with my septic tank. He then made a recommendation for several septic people and I called one of them to come out here and then they solved the problem. I'd recommend American Home Shield.
I am glad that our process is simple for customer such as yourself to file a claim. Also I am glad we have been able to service you and fulfill the claims that you have submitted.

Recently, I had an electrical claim for my kitchen ceiling light and another for my stove. Two out of four of my stove's burners weren't working. AHS' contractor was able to get them to work so they are fine. However, my biggest problem was the light in my kitchen. I ended up calling AHS because the contractors said they tried to contact me and they couldn't. AHS told me to call them and I did. I was told they have scheduled me and were going to be out in a day or two. I stayed home all day waiting. Almost past the time the contractors were supposed to arrive, I called to make sure they're still coming but they did not have me on schedule.
So I immediately called AHS and they got me another company that actually came out the next day, which was good and I had lights put in. However, we had a problem with getting my deductible paid. I was using my debit card and they couldn't take the payment. So I ended up writing a check. About 15 minutes after writing the check, AHS called me back to tell me that they put the payment through. They were supposed to send me back my torn up, voided check but I haven't gotten that yet.

American Home Shield is great and I love them. I started with their service way back in 2001. We have changed houses a couple of times so every time we moved, I get another warranty from them. I call them when I submit a claim and it's easier for me. There is no a wait time. If it's the weekend, somebody's calling me first thing Monday morning. Recently, my washer was not draining. It quit rinsing and spinning and I need to get this fixed. A guy came in, and he was the nicest person in the whole world. He tried to clean it and fix it but it didn't work. He had to order a part for it, then he came back and fixed it.
I'm a realtor too and I put American Home Shield warranty on every house that I sell. I order and I pay for it or we get the sellers to pay for it. I actually had a customer last month who was gonna buy a different warranty from a different company. She went on to Consumer Reports and researched it. Consumer Reports says American Home Shield is number one so she got it instead. I was glad to hear that. I won't use anybody else.

About two weeks ago, I placed my fifth call to American Home Shield for the heat furnace. The first time I called was in December. They had solved the problem but then 2 to 3 weeks later, it broke again. I called again, they came back, and fixed it. It happened about 4 or 5 times. But I'm not sure if it's the same issue all the time because it's a rental property and I don't live there. One time, it was the thermostat, and another time, it was the valve. But every time the contractor goes, the furnace would run. And then it would go down again.
But there haven't been any difficulties when submitting the claim. Every time, they come within the day. Sometimes it’s snowing, so I understand they won't be able to come right away. I didn't understand too much what kind of warranty it was though. I never had that kind of insurance or warranty before. I thought when they couldn't fix it, it will be replaced. But they told me that's not the way it works. They would keep fixing it until they aren't able to fix it anymore. And if they need put a new one, I will have to buy it myself. I realized that the last time I called.
I would like to thank you for the positive feedback!

The hot water pipe burst under the sink, so I raised a claim with American Home Shield. They had Hers and His Plumbing come out and according to the service guy, it would spring rather than running it down. So, it wasn't collecting in the plastic thing I had in the bottom. We had to pull the whole underneath of the cabinet out, and I'm waiting on my homeowners. I've had this contractor before and they are really good. They had to come back out a couple of days later because there was a drip and they corrected it with no problem. However, after submitting a claim, it takes a little bit longer for somebody to come out, especially on a Friday or Saturday. American Home Shield would contact the contractor who will call me back. And for my last claim, it took four days for a contractor to call me. But the claims agents were wonderful.

First of all, I have been an American Home Shield Customer for many many years. My downstairs heating unit went out a week and a half ago and I am still without heat (Mind you, it is very cold here and I have children in the home). I put in a work order to have it repaired and the Heating company said they had to order a part for the unit. After waiting a few days (still freezing cold), my husband called to get a status on when the part would be in and they told them it would be a few more days.
Soon after he hangs up, the Heating technician called and said the part was in and an appointment to come out to replace was made. When he gets there the next day, he tells us it's the wrong part and he told his boss that before he came out but the boss said, "Go out there anyway and get the number off the unit" so they could order the correct part. Another day passes, they called and said the part was discontinued so they could not repair it. This means AHS will have to replace the unit. Now we have to wait for a quote from the Heating Company to AHS and a call from them.
Another COLD DAY, AHS calls and tells us, "According to the information from the contractor, we will pay for parts and labor but you have to pay the additional $3000 out of pocket as we do not cover that part." I'm like, "Whaaaat? We don't have that kind of money for these unnecessary services." I called and spoke with several AHS customer service reps and they are telling me the most AHS will pay is $1800 towards a new heat unit. Really? This is insane! Anyone with knows it costs much more than that for a new unit and labor.
Come on, AHS. It costs at least $3000 for a gas heat unit including labor. You should be ashamed of yourself. They are frauds and work with these companies to rip customers off. This is unfair and they know it. They are allowing the contractor to quote these extreme rates for services so they won't have to pay the contractor any reasonable money and the contractor in turn tries to recoup from the customer. Horrible business practices at the expense of the consumers. I thought this was a good company but I see otherwise. I am now without heat and AHS won't provide reasonable assistance to accommodate me and my family, fairly.

You're given the opportunity to pick the appliances of your choice. So far, I have no complaints at all. The contractors they have sent have kept me very well informed. If there’s a delay in a part that was needed, I was very well-informed. I am very pleased with their service and everything is working as it should be. I used to be with First American when I lived in Central Florida but they don't cover the area where I moved to. I talked to the Realtor that I bought the property from and they had mentioned American Home Shield and other companies but they didn't make a recommendation as to who to go to. AHS was the first one that reached out and their price was in line with what I had been paying before so I thought I'd give it a shot for a year.
The policy went into force at the end of January and about the third week of last month, our AC unit went out and had an issue with the blower motor or the thermocouple and they came out to replace that. The service tech that showed up was courteous and knowledgeable. Everything worked out but I wasn't happy with the response time. It happened on a Friday afternoon and I found out when I came home from work that night. By the time I was able to reach the office, they couldn't schedule anybody to come in until the following Tuesday. They were not willing to come out on the weekend unless I wanted to pay them an up-charge. The prior service that I had in Central Florida offered coverage 24 hours a day, seven days a week. If I called on a Friday, even at 8:00 at night, they would have somebody out by noon or early afternoon the following day. Other than that I had no issues with the service that was performed at all.

I'm a realtor and have AHS on a rental property. There was one particular vendor I was not pleased with. I had an AC company come out three different times but they still couldn't fix the problem. They wound up pulling the unit out of the wall. It messed up the wall so I went ahead and had them send me a check and I hired somebody different. Most recently we had two issues. One was electrical. They said something’s stopped working and the kitchen area had power. And then the second was that the stove stopped working, but they weren’t sure if that was related. So I put both of those things in on the claim and then the electrical people came out and said it was all related and they did a new fuse. So I cancelled the Appliance Pro people from coming because the electrical people had already fixed the problem.
The $75 fee was supposed to be collected by the Appliance people. When they didn’t come, there was no fee collected. Then I didn’t hear any more about it. I tried to call the electrical people back and they said no fee collected so they weren’t gonna collect the fee from me, and so I waited. I finally got an e-mail this past week that said I was past due for paying the premium. So I called them and paid the premium. I filed this past claim over the phone. Talking with their reps has been good, especially the regional person. She and the people that I've talked to on the phone have been very helpful. Overall, I've been pleased with AHS. We've had a few claims in our first year in this house, and AHS has been absolutely reliable, trustworthy, and helpful. I just call them up and tell them what the problem is, they ask my location and give me the name of a couple of places or one place. And they even give me their number in case I want to call if I'm not going to be available too frequently so that I can set the appointment up with them, which I have done a couple of times.
The contractors have all been terrific. However, the contractor that they sent to fix the heater from my pool last year had to come out here two or three times to nail down the problem. Then we had the problem again. When I spoke to them, they said they can’t do anything with the problem because the pool was closed for the season. So I don't know where I stand this coming year with respect to paying another $100. Nevertheless, the whole service has been very acceptable to us. We like AHS. They do what they say they are going to do and have suggestions for me, too. It's been a very nice experience with them. In fact, we have signed up for this coming year as well. And the house we sold before we bought this house, we bought them the first year's coverage through AHS.

I just had to replace it and that wasn't a big deal. Other than that, everything he did was fine.
One thing about AHS is that the wait time for someone to come and the response to service call is quite long. Somebody takes two days and sometimes what needed to be fixed has been out three days that's why I ended up canceling my last call. I called on a Monday and they said that they couldn't come until Wednesday afternoon. My issue was I had a shower that wasn't working and I needed to take a shower. I understand the American Home Shield claim process and how it has to work. I understand going into a queue so I don’t have a problem with doing it that way. I have my own little two-step process, which seems to work best. I go online and submit a claim. I then get a response back that tells me that someone will come and fix the problem, for example, a week from next Tuesday. I get who that someone is and I get a phone number for the business. I call up the business and I make my own appointment, usually within the next one to two business days.
For the most part, their contractors are fine and professional. I only had one instance of someone being unprofessional. It was an electrical issue two claims ago. I stopped them before they even came out to my house. I called AHS up and told them I didn't like the guy on the phone and I didn't like the way they handled themselves. I asked them to cancel that contractor and to give me another company which they did. When I am asked to do a survey on the company that came out to the house, I’m usually pretty nice on that too. But I don’t get a survey all the time. Recently, I had dishwasher issues where the soap dispenser door was broken. The dishwasher we have will never clean like a Bosch, but it’s doing the best that it can. Everything that the contractor came out to fix, they fixed. However, the quality of the dishwasher sucks.
When I’ve had to deal with customer service at AHS, I only had one issue in the past year or two that I’ve been a customer and it was quickly rectified. My mom and dad also use AHS and in the last couple of years there was just one issue that needed to be rectified and it was. For the most part when it comes to AHS as a service organization, I’ve yet to deal with people on the phone that didn’t care. Nobody's perfect, but I have recommended American Home Shield to friends.

American Home Shield is a company backed on lies and stipulations within contracts that prevent them from actually covering the expensive materials in your appliances. They are manipulative and unreliable. Do not ever buy an American Home Shield warranty, my AC has broken 3 times in the last year and they will not replace the unit, they simply fill it with Freon and say "it's fixed."
When the technician came out again for the FOURTH time suddenly he found a leak (how convenient our warranty is about to expire) and requested the unit be replaced and now American Home Shield has stated that they are going to "fix", not replace the unit per the company's diagnosis. Even though I called Harbor Point Mechanical and they diagnosed a replacement of the entire interior unit. American Home Shield has stated that suddenly we are responsible for the Freon also which just had to be tipped off in the past three visits. And now the unit is completely empty somehow and we owe $990 for Freon. I am tired of being hot and cold all the time and being lied to, and never called back. This company is founded on lies!!! We have been customers of American Home Shield for over a year. When we submitted our first claim for our heater, it is denied. There were a lot of technical terms thrown around not only by the HVAC company that they sent to our home, but also by AHS. We were told that we are having flame-outs on our unit and that the flames melted a pipe which caused water damage to our control board. So... AHS has denied the claim based on water damage... Which was caused by the flame out of a heater that needs to be replaced. We are still working with the HVAC company as well as AHS to see if we can come to a resolution.
This isn't the service we expected to get from AHS since we had heard a lot of positive things about the company. We are still hoping that this can be resolved and we can get our heater fixed under our AHS home warranty... But people definitely need to beware when dealing with this company that they will seemingly see what they want to when reading a claim to avoid paying for replacements.

Twice they were supposed to schedule someone to come out and they kept giving it to a company in Pittsburgh, which is six hours away from me. I'm in Lancaster. I kept trying to tell them that the company is not here and they kept saying, "No, it's okay. You're in their service area", which was insane. I'm so far away. So, I waited a week and I never heard anything from them. I then called back and it turns out that it was all messed up. In the end, it got all fixed and someone came out and it's all done. The contractors have all been great, and overall, I've been happy.
I am pleased to hear that we were able to repair your oven.

American Home Shield's representatives have usually been good and have definitely improved. I used to have them at my old house, but I dropped it for a while when I came to this house because the seller bought a different policy. Now that I went back to them, they're getting better throughout the years. Although, sometimes it's a challenge getting the contractors scheduled or getting a ticket open, but once the people show up, it's always a really good experience. I once had a plumbing issue so I submitted a claim online, and the contractor they sent out was really good, professional, and explained some things to me that I'm sure he didn’t really have to do but it was helpful for me. I give him a really excellent rating. Everything's been fine since the repair.

I had a plumbing issue with the kitchen sink and my experience when I submitted a claim with American Home Shield was a disaster. They sent a plumber from Lane Plumbing but he was a joke. He called me the week between Christmas and New Year’s, and before he even got to the house, I could tell he didn’t want to be there. He got there and told me I had a dead rodent in the wall. Then another one who I’ve worked with before came out. He told me it’s not a dead rodent - that I got a leak in the smokestack and I need a smokestack test.
All the time that I’ve called American Home Shield, they only got these two guys and neither one of them did a smokestack test. So then AHS had to go out and get this guy up in South Jersey across from Philadelphia. He called me and surprisingly over the phone, he’s trying to figure out what’s wrong. Initially, it sounded that he knew what he’s doing, but it turns out he didn’t. He set up an appointment, but he was a no call, no show. Finally, a guy comes out and fixed the problem. He was spot on the first time I talked to him.
American Home Shield advertises on the radio and even on Fox News, and it sounds great. But sometimes they don't approve stuff. You gotta battle with them for what’s covered and what's not when you call up. It’s like I’ll need a lawyer every time I read their contract. And things are smooth depending on the contractor. I’ve had other calls and one of them, a refrigerator guy came out and he was great. But this last plumbing, three people came out - the first two giving me different things that were wrong, and the other guy coming out from far away and they cancel him because of that. And every time I call up, I gotta explain myself to somebody new and they got to get a supervisor. AHS needs to firm it up.
Hi John, I want to thank you for being a valued American Home Shield customer. I know that it can be very frustrating to deal with plumbing issues. It is in our best interest to assist you as a customer. A social media specialist will be contacting you to follow up with your situation at hand.

For the most part, I'm happy with American Home Shield. The representatives are great. However, whenever I'm calling in a claim, it takes them some time to respond and it's very annoying. It can be as little as 10 minutes and sometimes I've given up after 25 or 30 minutes. And sometimes I try to do it online because that certainly would eliminate the waiting time but for some reason, I'm not able to do it. They should improve their phone communication system.
I recently called AHS when my water heater would not turn on and they dispatched Moore's Plumbing. Their plumber has been to a number of my properties and he promised me he was coming. I texted him the tenant's phone number but at the end of the day, when I heard from my tenant that he didn't show up, I texted and asked what happened. He claimed they never texted him the phone number. So what I did was I took a screenshot of our conversation showing that I had texted it to him.
And when I followed it up the following morning when he said he was going there that day, he texted me back just to say something about some sort of voicemail message which I was assuming he was referring to mine and he said American Home Shield will dispatch somebody else. And they did and the new tech came the same day. All they had to do was relight the boiler and that was it. It could have been done within 48 hours from the initial call but because of all the delay back and forth, it's done in 12 hours and three or four days later which was unnecessary because the vendor was not American Home Shield.
I'm perfectly happy with almost every other vendor. Some are more pleasant than others but Moore's Plumbing is a problem and I've asked AHS to tag my account where they are not going to be an assigned vendor. The plumber was a total jerk and I've had nothing but trouble with him. He doesn't show up or doesn't show up on time and claims that AHS messed up. The bottom line is that I can wait sometimes a week to 10 days before he even comes to service.

It's been over 1 week so far, and I still have not had a contractor come out to fix my water heater. It's currently leaking into my neighbor's space, and I have to turn it off -- which means no hot water for me. I have taken this whole day off -- spoke to a rep this morning and have yet to have a contractor respond to me yet. I have now been on hold for about 20 minutes waiting to speak to someone. I have just got on the phone with a Rep and I will see how long this takes before I complete my review. I am now back online and the rep is telling me that I should have received a call from the contractor -- this is absolutely ridiculous. Do you use only one contractor in an area? Or maybe there is nepotism in selection of a particular contractor out of favoritism? I will continue to hold. What should I do if my neighbor sue me for damages from the water that is flowing to his storage?

Dishwasher repair turned into Nightmare! We have waited going on 2 and a half months waiting for it to be fixed or replaced. Still no resolution. Starting in early January we ran into issues with our dishwasher. The dishware is not draining. Our home warranty sent someone out a week or 2 later. They looked it over and said they needed to order parts. So they ordered them, and came back out a couple weeks later. This time the parts were here and the tech installed them, and reported that the issue was fixed... He left, and when my wife came home reported that it still was not fixed. We called the American Home Shield and let them know and they said they would schedule them to come back out a couple weeks later.
2 weeks pass, no dishwasher and the tech doesn't show up on our service day. We call home warranty and tells us that GE was scheduled to be out but that they would call to see what happened. They called GE and were told that they didn't have us on schedule and we would have to wait a week. So my wife calls back because this was getting out of hand, and this time she was told that there were actually more parts being ordered and that was the issue. So parts get delivered the guy comes out a week or 2 later and installs some of the parts. Says it's fixed. Shows us that it drained, and leaves. We try to wash dishes and not only does it not drain but it isn't washing dishes anymore.
We call American Home Shield and they try to get a diagnosis from GE to see if we can replace it. Which we asked to happen several times and never did. Apparently they couldn't get a diagnosis from GE so they transfer it to another company that came out last week. This person let us know how bad American Home Shield is... Looked at GE's repairs and saw that not only did they not fix it, but they broke it further. The spray arm was broken so water wasn't coming through the nozzles, and the ball was removed from the unit to fix the not draining part. However that ball is needed to prevent back flow which is why our dishwasher is retaining water. This tech sent us a copy of the invoice because he knew American Home Shield would jerk us around with how much they would pay out... The total cost was 250.
Now I get a call today saying that they will pay us 140 as a buyout to replace the unit. Not a replacement cost but the cost of the repair... Which I have proof is about 100$ less than what the tech emailed me... Now on top of this she called me back stating that they can't find proof that we paid the 75 dollar service charge. And expect me to go through my bank account and find it from months ago otherwise they are going to deduct that from the check they are going to send me. I have asked to talk to a manager for the 3rd time, every time I am told they will have to call me back 24 hours later. Which has yet to happen.
This is the first home warranty company that I have had these type of issues with. Their communication is awful, the service they provide is awful. I also have never written a bad review, but this time I cannot hold my tongue. This complaint will be filed with every realtor I know that sells their warranty, every online review company, and anyone that will listen.
I spoke with Mr. Chase and was able to resolve the issue with his dishwasher. The customer has my direct contact information if he has any questions about this issue in the future.

I've had American Home Shield for the last three or four years and I've only used one claim. It was for the washing machine and I submitted the claim over the phone. Dealing with the rep was good and they were pretty friendly. Then, the contractor that came was pretty professional, on time and good. They came in and it was very quick. They knew exactly what the problem was, they fixed it and left. It's been good since then and I haven't had any problems with it. I also hired them back to clean the ditch on the dryer.
The only thing I don't understand is with my air conditioner. Every year, I'm losing Freon and I have to buy it and have stuff done to it. The technician continuously comes out here and do something to the compressor because he said it's consistently breaking and that I have to replace it. But AHS weren't gonna warranty it unless it completely breaks. It doesn't make sense to keep patching it and to have to wait until something breaks then be out of heat waiting for somebody to fix it. But I didn't read the contract well and it is what it is. I haven't said anything and I'll wait 'til it breaks. But I'm pleased overall and I have no complaints about it. Also, all of my children have AHS so I'll recommend it.

American Home Shield has been excellent. I’ve never had a problem submitting a claim. I had this company many years ago in Georgia and Ocean City, Maryland and I've never been disappointed. There was one time that they sent a bad person but they corrected it. I recently submitted a claim for the furnace, which was not working. The lady who runs this plumbing and heating company came right in. Her men spent three hours repairing the furnace. They ran to get a part from Home Depot, came right back, and repaired it. They set the thermostat, and it’s been fine ever since.
The lady who owns the company was great and kept in contact with me through the day and wanted to assure me that everything would be all right. Her guys got here when they said they would. She called back to see if everything was okay and wanted to let me know that if I have a problem, to call her night or day and she would correct it. She and her brother own the company and they really take an interest in the homeowner and only say good things about American Home Shield. I come from a business background so I've dealt with electrical contractors, plumbing contractors, and general contractors, and I found this particular company to be ideal.
The guy that did the washer from Sears taught me a great deal about the washing machine when he was here. Every time, it’s been a learning experience and their prices are very fair. Last year, we had a refrigerator issue. They could not repair the part cause they couldn’t get it. AHS gave us a check and we replaced the refrigerator. It was an upgrade. The check was equivalent to one we could have bought that they could not get the part for. That was unbelievable. I've already recommended them to other people.

The boiler mechanic that American Home Shield sent was not the best because he just came, looked in the boiler and said it's fine. But the boiler is no good. In fact, the gas company came and said there's carbon monoxide leaking and I should put the boiler back into service. They said it was dangerous to my house and my health and they wanted the name of the mechanic who worked on the boiler but I didn't give it to them because I didn't want to get him into trouble. He was a nice guy but he was not competent.
I called the mechanic back, told him what they said and he advised me to replace the boiler. I asked him why he didn't do that in the first place instead of replacing the vent on my furnace where he spent $800 for nothing, and he said it was because AHS will only reimburse me $600 or $700 for the repair. I told him if that's what's in the contract I will accept it. So I ended up replacing the boiler. I spent $6,000 for that but AHS was only willing to reimburse up to $1,500. And they were supposed to send me a check for $715 but I never received it. It's very difficult to get somebody on the phone because it takes a long time for anybody to come on it. So I feel lethargic and not following up on that. They said they will send it in two weeks but it's been two months now.
I'm happy with the rest of the experience though. The other mechanics that American Home Shield sent were prompt in doing their work. And when there was a problem with the cook stove, they replaced it. Also, when the refrigerator had a problem sometime back, the tech correctly diagnosed the problem and fixed it. However, AHS never asked for a feedback on the the contractors they sent out and that's something they should.

I submit my claims to American Home Shield either on the phone or online depending on where I am and whether I have my contract number available immediately for me, though I prefer to call on the phone because then I know I'm talking to somebody and not a piece of automation. The representatives are usually very helpful and it's very good when the technician shows up. I had a plumbing issue at my condominium and it was a leaky valve. A technician came in, replaced the hot and cold water valves under the same sink in our bathroom. It was done and the plumber left in 30 minutes. The repair was completed, was perfect and fantastic. It was one of the best service calls I've had with Total Air and Polar Plumbing. I wrote a letter last year complaining about Total Air and their lack of responsiveness, but since their recent visit, that seems to have been cured. I also recommended AHS several times.

AHS had a plumber do a repair on my gas hot water heater. He replaced the gas valve and the water heater started to work fine but a few days later, I went down to my basement for something else and noticed that there was a lot of water in the pan underneath my water tank. I learned when American Home Shield replaced one about seven years ago that a water tank should be put into a plastic container and then that container be placed into a floor drain. And since it was no big deal -- it cost me $35 to do, so I did it. It saved me this time from having my whole cellar flooded. Since the repair, it's been excellent.
AHS was able to dispatch a very professional plumber. He called me within five minutes of me speaking with American Home Shield. He made an appointment to come to the house and diagnose the problem. And the following day he replaced the equipment and cleaned up like the professional that he is. And the nice thing is he lives three miles away from me so it's not like I had to wait four or five days for someone from two or three counties removed where I lived like I had to in the past. The service of AHS in the past two years has become excellent. There was a lot to be desired then but they have definitely improved and I have recommended them to many people.

Submitting a claim to American Home Shield was a relatively easy process. Apart from the fact that I have to make a call, it was seamless and good. The technician that they sent out to my home has been also good. He took care of the problem. He's also very courteous and very honest. I had to call him out twice because American Home Shield has a maximum that they'll cover for. So the technician that was sent down on behalf of American Home Shield didn't want to just start fixing parts before he knew what the actual problem was. He came back a second time two days later to fix the actual problem once we identified it. I was happy with that.
It was the first time that I called and it has worked out right away. I didn't have to chase people around so it was okay. The customer service reps at American Home Shield have been great. They were able to help me and they didn't ask too many questions. I told them what the issue was and they right away created work orders. The only complaint I would make is that in emergency situations the best they were able to do instead of being able to contact a contractor by phone, was to send an e-mail. They send work orders via e-mail and then the contractor has 24 hours to call me back. The problem was that my boiler busted on a Saturday night. I had kids in the house and my house was going down. They were anticipating a snowstorm the next day which means that there was a period of time that I had to go until morning without proper heat. That was a little bit of an issue but otherwise everything was beautiful.

I filed a claim with AHS online and got a technician out three days later. He didn't look quite experienced. It took him about one and a half hour to figure out the problem. And he came half an hour late, too, and I had an appointment so I was a bit on edge. I had to call in AHS to see where he is, and the guy on the phone was very nice and managed to get ahold of the company and the guy that was coming to my house. He told me that the technician's gonna come late and that he'll contact me. That's when the technician called me to say that he'll be late. When he arrived, he didn't even apologize.
He told me that the issue with the washing machine can't be fixed so either AHS would send me a new one or I could choose myself and send in the receipt for reimbursement. I sent the receipt already two weeks ago and still have not received the check. I got an e-mail that I didn't pay their call out technician fee so I called in. I had to wait in line 38 minutes until I got through to somebody.
After waiting, she told me that the check was being processed but it's not being written out nor sent out and that's only gonna be this week. She said I will receive it not before beginning of next week. I told them that I was not gonna pay the technician fee until I was sure on the check that the fee hasn't been taken off because this is what I was told. I wouldn't mind if things would be a little faster because I laid out the money and have to pay that. It was a washing machine so it was urgent.

I had a water leak up under my kitchen sink. I submitted a claim with American Home Shield and the claim representatives were fine. Everything went well. They called and said that they submitted the request and that company would be calling. And within maybe 30 minutes to an hour they did call. The contractors were fine. But they had to come out a couple of times.
The first time the repairman came out, he just looked at it and I wasn't so pleased with that because they didn't fix anything. So luckily I have some people at my house doing some repairs or so I would have to take off from work again to meet the repairman again. Then when he came back the second time he fixed one problem but then there was another problem.
I had to resubmit another request so he came out a third time and lucky I had some people there, that I didn't have to leave work to come. The repair was finally done. But now I'm waiting on another company to come back out and fix the hole that they had to cut during the repair. So that's another day that I take off to be there. Overall, AHS was okay. It's pretty easy to submit claims to American Home Shield online. It's very straight-forward and they were pretty good in calling me if I had any additional questions. But there were multiple times where the vendors that they picked didn't respond even if I left them multiple messages. I've noticed it more only in the East Coast because I've had AHS when I was in the Mid-West and they were much better. I contacted them about it and they said they were having trouble with the vendors out there. It's a small town and most of them are mom and pop shops so they don't really want to work with the warranty company. It really is not in American Home Shield's control.
I had multiple plumbing issues last year and there was one plumbing company that I'm so annoyed with. I think I made ridiculous complaints to Steve's Plumbing and American Home Shield, that this year when I had an issue, Steve's Plumbing called back after the first call. My recent service call with American Home Shield was for my InSinkErator in my kitchen sink. I was definitely not satisfied with that because the person who came did not do the job completely while I told him that there's a leak going on but he refused to even accept it. Then the leak really happened after that and then I had to call them again. All the people who are coming in to make the service call were really doing it for the sake of just coming there, getting done, doing a quick fix to it and hoping that the problem doesn't come back. I've also had this issue even with my dishwasher. They refused to replace it or they don't know what they are doing.
I really don't have a good experience with the providers associated with AHS. The repair was fine the second time around, but definitely, not the first time. Also, there are a lot of things which they say that is covered, but then there are a few things that are not. When we had a problem with the water heater in one of my homes and it needed to be replaced, they did replace it with a good brand. But they also charged me some about $380 because the part where they had to change the pipes was not covered. This is a very new house, so I'm not really sure whether that's true or that's something that the providers used to get money out of us.

I had a claim with American Home Shield for a dishwasher. They got us connected with somebody from Sears, and their guy did a good job. He didn't have one of the parts which he would normally carry with the gasket. So, he came back for a second visit to install the gasket and it worked out just fine and then, we got the receipt. The technician coming out and taking care of business and the claim with AHS was pretty smooth.
But then, there was a weird follow-up. The back office wasn't connecting with whatever they needed to do with Sears because a couple of months later, January timeframe, American Home Shield said I owe $15 for something. I don't know what so I called and they said that it has something to do with the claim when the guy came back in the fall. I told them I have a receipt that says I paid for everything. I'd paid my service fee and I paid $129 and something cents because there were taxes involved. So, they took that all back and they said okay and at one time, they said that maybe I ought to call Sears because there was something related to Sears. They gave me the telephone number but when I called, they didn't answer. So, I called AHS back and asked them to call Sears which they did.
Then I noticed that there's a due amount on my account. I asked why it keeps showing up and they said they're trying to sort it out with Sears. I asked if they settled it and then they came back saying they have proof that it's not my bill. I asked if they can take it off my account and they said yes but it will take maybe two to three weeks. I called back later to tell them it's still showing up. So, there was a couple of back and forth and about a month altogether of going through that, I asked what was going on. They said they're gonna basically resubmit to straighten it out and it might finally be off my account. I've had American Home Shield for several properties over time and it's all been pretty good. I went through retention and they ended up working everything out for me. It was excellent and the guy wanted to help me in everything. But American Home Shield is not consistent with their customer service. It's actually horrible. Also, the vendors that they use try to make extra money on the side. When I got my pump on my pool, the guy said, "I could just replace all the parts or I can give you a new pump." I told them that we'll get a new pump, and he said that would be an additional $60. But the pump is covered by American Home Shield.

My microwave was running but not heating and when I turn on the electronic ignition of our cooktop, it sparks. And when I turn it off, the sound is supposed to be off too but it's always on. One gentleman from American Shield's office said I can order one service to solve these two problems so I took this advantage. I ordered then one guy came in and tried to fix the appliances. He was very responsible but he couldn't do it and said that he needed to order parts for both problems and that he will return in about a week.
After one week, no sound so I called him back and he said that the parts have not yet come. I called again after that and he said that the parts had to be ordered through AHS. I called AHS and one lady said it shouldn't be ordered through them. So I called the contractor again until eventually, I called American Home Shield and they said the parts would be ordered through them. So it took a little bit too long and I called AHS several times but after that, the parts came in and the tech fixed the appliances. The reps were good and very nice but I was not very satisfied when I was put back and forth several times for that claim. I have AHS for 10 years and every time I called, they sent some people and they fixed the problem without this kind of hassle.

I recently called AHS to have a faucet fixed, but didn't find out until after they had sent the technician, he had done the diagnosis and I had paid him, that they weren't covering me for faucets. I've been a customer for several years and at some point, my contract changed but I wasn't notified. And it was very upsetting that when I made the call, the rep I spoke to didn't know that I wasn't covered. They said they had sent me a different contract. I remember talking to someone when I renewed my contract and asking them if anything changed, and I was told nothing but the amount. I had so many claims last year that they were going to charge me a higher amount, but everything else in the contract is the same, and that turned out to be not true. The sales and service processes don't connect as efficiently as they should.
I've also had a bad experience last year with a woman in the option to pay department and I wrote a very lengthy formal letter of complaint on her. I thought she was very rude and unprofessional. She didn't appear to have a lot of knowledge about what I was discussing and she wasn't interested in providing any customer service. But I have never had a bad experience with any other AHS staff. They're very pleasant and professional. Even the person who made the mistake the last time I called was professional.
As for the contractors, I had told one plumber that he can't come back to my home. He was very inappropriate in his conversation with me. But the last couple of times, I've gotten Spry Plumbing and Heating and they were very professional and pleasant to deal with. Also the tech from Supreme Appliance had come several times and was very professional and diligent. When I had a problem with my dishwasher that took several trips to get right, the technician sent out was very qualified, it was superior service.
I also had a problem with my tenant’s faucet which cost me $275 in labor and another $100 for the faucet. That and paying American Home Shield $133 a month, plus $100, I really have to question whether that’s going to work for me. Not covering my faucets means a lot of money for me. Most people want to know that everything that they’re paying for is covered and at $133, I'm paying over $1300 a year, then AHS adds around $400 to that, and it can really throw a person off. I'm curious as to what else I'm not covered for. I've had very good experience with AHS in the past, but I'd be hesitant to recommend them right now.

I love American Home Shield's program and I'm happy with the service. Most of the contractors are very pleasant and I get what I pay for. They do very good work, especially the plumber who is awesome. The pool heater people are always very good, too. They call us and come every year and try to get it up and running. I'm sure I’ll see them in the summer.
However, I did not have a great experience with the person who came for my most recent issue. My water and ice tasted funny coming out of my freezer and the guy said he would bring something out and he would call me back about putting on a water filter in a line, but he never called me back. Then he asked if I can fill out his survey, which I did, but the guy never fulfilled his obligation, so it was disappointing. Other than that, I've had no extremely horrible experiences.

My ice machine in my freezer and my dishwasher buttons got broken. I had never used a home insurance service in my life and had never used AHS before so I didn’t know it was supposed to be one claim. I thought that I needed to pay for two separate services so it never crossed my mind to not put them in separately. I reported them a couple of hours apart. They assigned me one service and the vendor never called me in the proper timeframe. So I called American Home Shield and waited a ridiculous amount of time. I figured I’d contact them by e-mail and so finally, the first vendor came and the person who came to service was wonderful. He was fast, efficient, and really nice.
When I called American Home Shield for my second claim, the person I first spoke to was yelling at me for not putting in both things together. She cancelled that vendor without telling me and assigned me to someone else. Then when they tried to give it to someone else, the other person didn’t want to take it because it was reassigned.
It was a really awful experience with AHS on the phone and I had a terrible experience getting somebody to come. The people on the phone for American Home Shield are awful. They could use a little work in their friendliness and helpfulness. The customer service person who helped me last was wonderful, but the two people before her were not helpful and one was genuinely nasty. But the actual service and the completion of both repairs were awesome and phenomenal. When they finally did come, they did a great job. They were quick and really nice, and both items were fixed well. I wouldn’t recommend AHS but I won’t cancel my subscription either.

I submitted a claim for my refrigerator last week because it had ice built up at the back, and submitting it online was very easy. However, there was an issue with the phone number of the company that was outsourced to fix the problem, so I had to call them two days later. They came out on Monday this week to check out the issue, but they're still going back and forth with American Home Shield on the parts that they want to install, so the issue isn't resolved yet. I called the appliance company today to inquire what was going on and I haven't heard back from them yet. So, overall American Home Shield was not good.

Whenever I call American Home Shield, they usually are able to get somebody here really fast. It's not as smooth always as I'd like it to be but it really does help to get somebody out and diagnose the problem as fast as they can. But sometimes, it takes a little bit longer than it needs. But they do fix my issues and for the most part, they have reputable people. I'm pleased with their service. Their contractors are very friendly and very knowledgeable. Unfortunately, with the hot water heater, they sent a plumber but my geothermal system was attached to it and the plumber didn't do that. AHS was able to tell me though that I could find somebody on my own and then they would reimburse it. So, it all worked out.
The most recent claim we had with was for my refrigerator. The ice maker wasn't working. However, I'm still waiting for a part and it's still not working. It's been about three weeks. Once the technician got the clearance to order the parts, AHS said, "No, we'll order the parts." I had to call two days ago and asked, "What's going on with the part? Because I just called the guy, and it's two weeks and I don't have a dispenser." They said the part is coming. That's the shipping company's fault. But then, the technician called me to keep me abreast on what's going on. He said, "AHS said that they shipped it but I haven't received it yet. Hopefully, we'll receive it and I'll come out next week." But it’ll get fixed.
We've also been having a little bit of a spat between what they cover and what they don't cover. There was an issue with my beverage refrigerator which they still haven't replaced because they can't find somebody to fix the parts. And then, after their customer service representative told me that it was covered, when I called again now which is about a year and a half later, they tell me that they never covered them. There are the plus and the minuses. I've had them here for a bunch of things. I've had them here for my dishwasher and my hot water dispenser and it was perfect. I've also had them here for a regular water heater that wasn't attached to a geothermal system, and they came and fixed it. It's also very timely. If it's something simple, you want this company.
The only thing that I really have a problem is when they don't know what to do with it, they never get back with me and they never tell you what the next steps are going to be. I have to call the person that came here and then I have to call their customer service department again. That's not good. For instance, I'm supposed to have somebody for my pool and they'll tell me, "Well, you have to find your own technician." I say, "The only technicians that we have won't do business with you. So, what do I do here? You're gonna have to find somebody." They bring somebody in from Hagerstown, which is just like Chambersburg. They have a limited supply of vendors that they can work with for whatever reason.
AHS’ customer service needs to be worked on a little bit so that they're in line with what the policies. It’s nice if you have something that's very straightforward. If you have something that is custom-done, I don't know if they are the ones that you would want to have as insurance. But other than that, I've had good experience with them in the past. We've been with them since 2007 and we've stayed with them. They're a reputable company.

My water heater kept turning off so I called American Home Shield and presented my claim to them. They had a different company give me call and sent me an email of who would be contacting me first. The people contacted me in less than 20 minutes and said they could come out the next day but due to my availability with working they came the next week. They found out that they couldn't fix the problem right then and there and that they would have to order the product to fix it, so that's what they did. They ordered it, it came back a week later, and the contractor came back. I paid $75 the first time he came and then he fixed the problem when he came back. Everything was okay and I didn't have to pay again. He did a great job. Everything's working fine with no problems at all since the repair. I was surprised they were responsive.

We had a leaking pipe in our basement. I submitted the claim online and the process was quick and easy. The company called us within an hour and asked if they could come out on that weekend. They did and they did exactly what I was hoping they would do. It was perfect. What happened was there was a tiny pinhole leak in our copper plating. The copper plates needed to be replaced so I was concerned that the company would just gonna solder it over to keep it from leaking. But when the technician came, we explained what had been happening to him and without any further discussion, they replaced a good fourth of the copper plates with a PVC pipe. So that wasn't just a temporary fix, it’s the real deal. It was just $75 which would have been at least $400. American Home Shield has often saved us hundreds of dollars that would have been a huge headache.

I selected highest plan from AHS considering I will get full protection and peace of mind. My first ticket raised is still not solved after one month. Instead AHS is asking money for each visit of different vendor for same ticket. And there is NO TIME LIMIT to close ticket. One month back when I had first issue and logged service request, it was good experience as I get mail of acknowledging request immediately. I logged complaint for appliance issue. They assigned a vendor company to do the service. Vendor company gave me appointment after 6 days to visit my house. They have no other time available so I must had to wait for 6 days.
When Technician from vendor company came he charged first $75 for visit. He said Oven board needs to be changed. He ordered it with AHS and next appointment is after 2 weeks. After 2 weeks when he came with board, still oven was not working. Technician said AHS gave him used and faulty board. So he need to order again. Again after 1.5 to 2 week he came and again Oven was not working. So he said he again got faulty board. And there might be issue with current. He also acknowledge that before he open oven for first time current was fine and he can see display. And maybe Oven needed to be replaced. But AHS will not do it probably as they will try for repair. So AHS send electrician and asked me to pay $75 again. I said there was no issue of current before and if there is issue now it must have been caused due to faulty board supplied 2 times.
As of now electrician and Oven technician want me to schedule their timing so they can come at same time. Most IMPORTANT is that there is no time limit for ticket to close. So this can go on for one year and AHS will send different vendors and try to repair Oven and I might need to pay for each different type of service. AHS must have time limit of closing ticket and responsible for service. Not saying it's supplier problem who is giving faulty parts. I have contract with AHS and not with their supplier. In summary after one month issue is still not solved. And I don't see any timeline or way forward to solve it.

The first company they sent us was sucky, so we ended up having to look around and try to find someone else. We went back to American Home Shield as my wife’s decision. I wanted to go with someone else, and we asked for another one.
The second one they sent us was great and did what they needed to do. However, as for the electrical system, they neglected to put a service order back with American Home Shield, so we had to contact them ourselves and find out. Eventually we were able to get in touch with them and they got the information they needed from the plumber so they can get an electrician out. Then the electrician came and did a great job. Everything’s back to normal. However, I’m dissatisfied as I don’t think AHS vets out the companies they choose to use very well.

When he got that sorted out, we tested the dispenser and it was dripping, so the whole unit needed to be replaced. He had scheduled appointments through the day but he had someone from Sears drop off the parts and told me that he would come back in the evening when he was done with all his appointments and would call me when he was on his way, and he did. He came back and fixed it and I haven't had a problem since. I'm happy I bought the warranty from American Home Shield. It's worth every penny.

First 35 years good service, last 10 years it was awful. The past 14 times I have had to contact them has been progressively worse. First of all it is nearly impossible to get through to them by telephone or email or online. Wanting it in writing, my emails do not go through, are rejected. By phone one must listen to a long advertisement then engage in an automated Q&A session.
But if AHS sends a person, most of the contractors have been indolent, spend 5 to 10 minutes walking around with hands in pockets when water seepage has ruined a new hardwood floor for example, or gas fireplace has a roaring flame and will not shut off, or all electric in home goes off in a Texas summer. My a/c and furnace are 31 years old now, 2017. I have paid for them in my membership since 1973. Now that the furnace has been diagnosed as dangerous, by a Structural Engineer (paid by me $$$) and now another individual company this year. The company AHS finally gave me just now has NO REVIEWS but does have 6 (SIX) complaints at BBB, one of which was an "out of business" response.
I have asked on numerous occasions over the years when I renew with AHS whether they will replace my a/c and furnace with a Trane unit or the equivalent in case Trane goes out of business. Always am assured they will. But - I have been told that AHS will put a "band aid" on the furnace or a/c and not replace them. Now however I feel as though the lack of interest and general avoidance is pushing me toward dropping the contract. It is a Catch 22, I've a lot of money invested with them and two ancient large dollar items on the brink of failure or fire.

I contacted AHS approximately 4 weeks ago regarding my Whirlpool washer (10 years old). The washer was working fine with the exception the clothes were not completely spun dry. Prestige Appliance was the first contractor to diagnosis the washer. Due to my schedule and the contractor's schedule it was hard to schedule an appointment. However, he finally showed up on a Saturday, although this is not a normal work day for him. The contractor provided me with a handwritten diagnosis... In short the machine could be repaired. The contractor stated he would submit the diagnosis on the following week.
I called AHS February 20th to follow up and found out Prestige had not submitted the diagnosis as promised. I contacted AHS three days in a row and Prestige still had not contacted them. I requested a different contractor as my washer was still not working and my dryer also stopped working. I took off work for a 4-hour window on March 1st for Ukon Appliance Repair to diagnosis my washer and dryer. Per Ukon Appliance Repair both appliances were repairable. During the diagnosis process with Ukon, my washer was ran to see exactly what was going on. Unfortunately the water would not go out. It stopped working completely.
On March 2nd Prestige Appliance called me stating they have the parts and asked if someone would be home so that he could come by and repair the machine. When Prestige came out again, he took the machine apart and reported to AHS that the machine was overloaded with a piece of clothing in the pump and therefore that is why the transmission stopped working. On March 6th AHS reached out to Prestige to get clarification from as either it is wear and tear or it was due to overload... which of course is not covered.
Today AHS called me to give me the great news that my machine is not covered. I asked how two companies can give conflicting diagnosis, but I got silence. Here is the caveat, Prestige Appliance said the machine is not working is due to wear and tear and overloading. AHS has offered me the cost of the parts of $81.78 to purchase a new washer through them or purchase a washer with a one year manufacturer's warranty and they will refund me the $81.78 with a receipt. I plan to call AHS back after being on hold and eventually hung up on, to request another contractor to diagnosis my dryer. I am scared I may get another diagnosis for my dryer. AHS has been a waste of money. I will probably cancel my account and just save the $38.99 in a savings account just for home repairs. It takes too long for the process, I would hate to think if the repair was a clogged toilet or tub.

The claim process was pretty easy. But the company that works with American Home Shield can be a little difficult with trying to take the call and work through the process of getting the repair. The last representative that I dealt with wasn’t courteous. The situation was that the person in the property had a young child and the place needed heat. And they couldn’t service it that night but they said, “If it's an emergency, you got to cancel the order and call us back.” He wanted me to do an expedited order. I believe he was saying that it should be in the policy of emergency situations, but I was never informed of that by the company.
I called them on a Friday but the call didn’t get through ‘til after 5:00. And they said that they were not able to go out there because the call was made after their closing hours. It became a little difficult because he didn’t wanna hear my concerns. So I just worked it out with the parent if they could take the young child to another home for that evening until the contractor can get out there, and they were able to make it happen. But overall, the experience that I've received from the time that I took out the policy until now, I would recommend American Home Shield.

I submitted a claim with American Home Shield for a dishwasher. We were trying to find a vendor to come out and the rep said it’s going to take a little bit. And then they called me when they had a vendor available. After I looked up who that person was, I called them back and asked if they could find another vendor because I had read all the reviews about this vendor and they were not good. The rep said they couldn’t do that so we went ahead and used them.
The contractor came in, looked at the dishwasher and right away knew what the problem was. It was a very quick visit and my husband had no issues with them. The contractor said that they would order the parts. We told them that if it was going to be over $400, we did not want to put that much money in the dishwasher because it was old. So he said that they would make sure that AHS knew that.
Then AHS called us back and said that they couldn’t get the part. They emailed us back an option. It’s either they would bring the GE dishwasher that they picked out and install it from another vendor or they would give us $490 towards another dishwasher. So we went out and bought our own dishwasher and submitted the bill to them. I had called them and they said it could take up to 21 business days to get that paid, and it did. From reading all the reviews, I was pleasantly surprised that they took care of us without any issues. I never had to call them to ask where my check is.

On December 20th, I had put in a claim to American Home Shield for a fan above my stove that was non-functioning. I've called them 12 times and every time I called, I had to explain the same thing over and over again. They also sent me to purchasing and I got to explain everything to them. I was told to call Whirlpool to have them come out and pick up the unit and bring a new one. So, Whirlpool came out here and said they don't take the fan back. They thought they were coming out to pick up an appliance, and they were going to charge me a service fee for that. And then, American Home Shield called and said that they'll get rid of that and order a fan.
And then, I have to call the installer to have them come and install it when it comes here. I do not think I should be calling the company that's going to be replacing my fan. That should be taken care of by AHS. Unfortunately it's a product that hasn't been around for 20 years. The first product we got was damaged and we were going to be charged for restocking fee. It was not my fault it came damaged since it was packaged damaged. It's taking me six weeks to even get a response from them. So, it's very, very disconcerting that I paid this amount of money for AHS and I still do not have my fan fixed.
So far, everybody's been nice. They're trying to help me out but they're not communicating amongst themselves. I've had American Home Shield in the past and I've never had an issue with them before. I don't know if this happened to be because this product is such an old product and they can't find it. I recently submitted a claim with American Home Shield and it went good. The contractor came and did my doorbell. The lady replaced the two parts that were messed up. Now my doorbell is ringing right. The sensors on my garage door opener were also going off and the wheels were off balance. They replaced the sensors but I had to pay for the wheel. Now my garage is going up and down by itself without me holding it, so that’s good.
However, there was a problem with another contractor, Albritton, concerning my ceiling fan. The first time they came, they took it down and said they were gonna replace it with the same kind of fan. But I found out that they didn’t. They put three bulbs instead of the four bulbs that I had. So, I’ve been talking with John from AHS about that to make sure that the contractor gets the job done. And as of today, they have not come back. According to John, they can’t replace the fan with what I had even though they’re decorative. They just have to make sure that it’s close to it. But it isn't even close to it. So I told John to tell them just come, take the three bulbs, and put the four bulbs on it. But they haven’t done it as of yet and I haven't heard from them. And this has been going on ever since the 14th of February. I’m hoping they will come and do what they’re supposed to do.
Although my interactions with the people at AHS are great, I was about to change them and go to another company because I don't like what this contractor, Albritton, is doing. AHS gets my money every month out of my account, but the contractor hasn't done what they were supposed to do. And I told AHS, if I get any other electrical work which needs to be done, I do not want to go through Albritton anymore. I sent some more people to American Home Shield and I’m thinking about letting them know of not dealing with Albritton, too. Nevertheless, I would recommend AHS to a friend.

The most recent claim with American Home Shield was for a dishwasher. The spring that holds the door so that it goes up easily and closes popped off. So, the door was like a deadweight. You can lift it but you'd be surprised how heavy that door is without the spring. I submitted the claim online and scheduled it which was very easy. But it took the contractor maybe a week or longer before they got to me. It was really concerning because when I looked up the company, Google showed them as out of business. They obviously weren't out of business but they also obviously didn't give a ** about getting into 21st Century and update their information in Google for anybody else that might want to find them. So, right off the bat, I was a little like, "Hmm."
Then they came and they said they had to order a part and install it. Then when the part came, they had to turn the water valve off to the dishwasher so that they can install or check something but they couldn't turn the valve. I don't know what kind of person that services and or potentially install dishwashers can't turn a water valve on and off, and they were trying to do it with their hands when any normal person would have done it with a wrench. So then they put another call into American Home Shield and requested that a plumber be sent to my house to turn our water back. When the plumber came, he asked me what kind of idiots couldn't turn the valve and if they were trying to use their hands. He did it in literally two seconds and I don't believe that he was able to do so because he's a professional. I believe he did it in two seconds because he knew he couldn't do it with his hands.
Then I had to wait for a time for the other people to come back and try and do what they were trying to do in the first place. So,over that course of time, it had been about a month. Also during the time when they were there to first look at it, the knob that is the dial that shorts the cycle process fell off. It hadn't fallen off before, only since they touched the door, so I mentioned that to them at the time. So, when they came back they fixed everything that they said they needed to fix but they couldn't fix the knob. The knob was able to go back in but not securely.
Eventually the dishwasher was working again and the door was working again. But then, a week or two later, the knob fell off and was permanently unable to be put back on. So, I called American Home Shield again and notified them of this and said that since it was part of the initial issue that I brought up with the previous service from them, I needed something to happen with it. The only thing that American Home Shield wanted to tell me at that point was that I might have to pay for another service call to come out if the service person can't confirm that I brought it up to them. So, basically, they were telling me that if the moron, who tried to turn the valve off with their hands, didn't remember that we have this conversation, they were gonna take that moron's word against their own customer's and charge me another $100 for a plastic knob.
I eventually had a conversation with the people and they had to come back out again. They said that I definitely mentioned it to them before which I was thankful for. They were little difficult, at one point when I spoke with them. I had a little bit of a heated discussion with the rep but when they came back out they were nice. However they said they don't make this part. Basically, when there was a mechanical or structural thing wrong with my dishwasher that they keep sending me these idiots back to fix, for a plastic knob that can't be replaced I am now going to get a new dishwasher.
I've been away on vacation so I haven't given them all the paperwork I need to start that process which is fine, that's not on them. But now, I continue to get a bill for another $100 service call not for them coming out to the plastic knob but for the plumber that I didn't request. I just spoke to someone at AHS who seemed to have enough of a brain on them and I say that because I find that the level of CSR's at American Home Shield is absolutely horrible. Well, I didn't expect my experience to be overly awesome because it is an insurance company who looks for ways to every engagement to cost them the least amount of money possible. But they looked at my record and they saw I did not request the plumber so they would take care of it and I shouldn't worry. But then, two days ago I got another bill. So, I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that since they move at the speed of snail as a company, that maybe it hasn't been rectified yet.
American Home Shield is okay if you're willing to deal with their ** and the fact that they're making blatantly clear they are an insurance company and trying to do the least expensive thing possible regardless of timeliness or without any real care for customer service or who they pick as their vendors.

I found a leak under the sink. It was in the evening, so I called AHS and left a message. They called me back and the gentleman came. We've had the same person a couple of times. He knew exactly what to do and was very professional. He cleaned everything up and I was very satisfied. I’ve always been happy with American Home Shield and I would gladly recommend them.

I had some problem submitting a claim to AHS, but other than that, it was okay. The most recent claim I made was for the bathroom piping. The guy came out and he said he wasn't going to do anything unless it was leaking. But the reps and techs have been good. All in all, I was satisfied with my experience.

I called AHS for a plumbing service and they got people to come out and work on the pressure valve on the same day. I got rid of the first tech that came out as he told me he was coming back in an hour and I didn't see him in three hours, but a new tech was sent on the same day. The claims process was pretty fast and easy. The customer service was pretty good too. I couldn't get them before and would be on the phone for an hour, but now they changed and I only have to wait five minutes or so to talk to somebody.

My most recent experience was very good. I had some electrical work done. I put in an online claim and then I had a couple of different things that I needed fixed. Then the person called me and I walked him through on the phone and he came and he fixed them all. He was very good, polite, clean and was knowledgeable. So it was very positive. But I have had some experiences that were not as good. It all depends on the service that you’re trying to get done and the contractor that you are working with.
An instance where I was extremely unhappy with them was when I had a problem with my air conditioner and the contractor called me very quickly, they sent someone over and they then said they needed a part. Then I did not hear from them for a very long time. I couldn’t get the contractor on the phone and I had a very difficult time getting American Home Shield on the phone as well. There were waits of 45 minutes to an hour on hold for someone to answer the phone. There is no system to email them. You can put in a claim, but you can’t send an email asking for a follow-up on a contractor. So the only choice you have is to call the contractor or to call American Home Shield.
After they have left messages for the contractor, three times, I told them that I needed a resolution. What ended up happening was they sent another person back out and re-diagnosed my problem. This was in the summer and I was without air conditioning for a month. They completely diagnosed it differently than the first people that came and they ended up fixing it differently than what was originally recommended. So it started running, but I don’t know whether it was a patch or a repair or ultimately what happened.
Then I had another issue with my air conditioner at the end of the season. But because I spent six weeks without air conditioning I learned that I would want to get it fixed at the end of the season instead of waiting for the beginning of the season. I called them and told them that I would not use that same contractor and they honored my request. The contractor called me, but they couldn’t fix it because it had gotten too cold to get it fixed. So they said they had to come back, which I was fine with that response. I’ve been mostly happy with all of my claims, it was because of my issue with the air conditioning that tainted all the other ones.
Thank you for providing us with the positive feedback on your good experience with AHS.

There was an issue with our garbage disposal so we set up a claim online. American Home Shield reached out to a local plumbing company who then contacted us to set up an appointment. I got an e-mail from American Home Shield almost the same day that the company would be calling us in a couple of days. The first contractor wasn't the most helpful so AHS ended up having to send out a second contractor a couple of days later who ultimately diagnosed and repaired the problem that we had with the disposal. Although there was a hiccup at the beginning, AHS did right by us and had someone else come out and and leave us satisfied. My wife and I are very pleased that they were professional about it and it worked out nicely.

The garbage disposal was leaking and we called American Home Shield to file a claim. The contractor they sent was good. The repair was perfect and it was short easy and done.
I am pleased to hear about the good experience you encountered with your garbage disposal. I am glad we were able to repair the leak so quick.

The door hinge had broken on the washing machine and we submitted a claim online to American Home Shield. Then they picked a contractor who called me and came and I paid him the $100 deductible. I read all the terms and conditions, which if there’s a part that’s needed and he doesn’t have it then they will come back once the it is in and install it. And there will be no additional payments. It sounded very fair to me when I first signed up. So it turned out that he didn’t have the part. He said that he would order the part and for us to call the contractor when it was delivered. They ordered the part promptly and about three days later the part came in so I called them. They said, “Well, he can come in about 10 to 15 days.” We didn’t have the use of the washing machine so I said, “You can’t come any sooner?” They said that they were very booked up.
We waited for 10 days, and a different guy came. The first thing he did was take out his pad and said that I have to pay them $350 for the part and the service. I said “No, I don’t. I have insurance.” He asked me for my credit card and I said no. So that started the calls. He called his company and I called American Home Shield. It took us about a half an hour, back and forth, and we finally got it sorted out. He did a nice job installing it. I had no problems with that and everything is fine.
It seemed strange that we had to have that kind of dispute for no reason. We’re happy that AHS got it sorted out and the people they picked to service were very competent, but we're unhappy about the issues about the payment and the time delay. Other than that, everything was fine and they lived up to the policy, so I have no major issues. We’ll be staying with AHS.
