First off honestly, to say I can't believe some of the reviews on the Kirby what's being said on this site. I don't consider them accurate at times. Yeah I agree to some, that the Kirby company is really messed up forcing people to buy their vacuum and taking advantage of the elderly and everything else with Kirby company being a billionaire company. Honestly there are more problems with the marketplace and business with Kirby than the vacuum itself, so please don't tear down about the vacuum. Yes I agree it's not for everyone, since it's really heavy.
Now I have owned a Kirby Heritage II for near three years and never had any problems with it and know very well it's the best performing vacuum you can ever have but I did not buy it from the Kirby company. I am extremely happy with it. Yeah it needs belts and bags time to time but that normal for owning a vacuum. The belts with me usually last 4-5 months until it needs replacing.
Also this is my personal belief that the vintage Kirbies are better than the new ones. To me, the Kirby company has changed a lot from the last 40 years, and how I see it's not good. Now when it comes to me and my strong opinion owning a Kirby, I advise is not get a Kirby from the Kirby company and don't believe it's a good idea to directly buy from them but just buy one from eBay or Amazon. Don't pay the overprices for one - that part is absurd. Max one should pay for a Kirby is 800.00 if near new but I won't buy any higher. This same goes for a Rainbow.
Yeah, I know if you don't buy from Kirby you don't get warranty or you can't bring a Kirby to them if anything goes wrong, so what! Take responsibilities to fix them yourself and save money if you can! Example, eBay has brand new Kirbies time to time and they are usually 400.00-700.00 with shipping, depending where you live. I am done talking about Kirby but that's my review.

I purchase a Kirby vacuum a few months ago. I fell one month behind on payments, they called everyday and pretty much every hour. As I was getting my kids ready for the day. A Kirby employer was knocking at the door. I didn't hear the knocking, so due to that the work just walked in my house and started searched for the vacuum. I told him he's breaking and entering and that I'm going to call the cops. He told me to go right ahead **. I asked for his name or business card. He said he didn't need to give that information and called me a ** again. Got the cops involve and made a report and got the license plate ** New Mexico plates. He said he would be back, I now do not feel safe in my house. Not satisfied at all with the Kirby employees. I do not know what kind of employees you are hiring to have someone do that to a single mother.

First of all I will state that I have sold Kirby products myself, when I was in a desperate situation and this was the only job I could find. It is very hard work, it is hard to be invited into a home, this is one reason salesmen work so hard once there. But, work earnestly, not deceitfully once you have the privilege of showing your product. This product is extremely overpriced. I understand there are many players that get a cut of that pie, so inevitably, some must pay the highest price. But they do have the ability to negotiate a much lower price to seal the deal. There is also free financing if you do not opt for the auto payments and low low payments. Ask for this option and you save a ton on finance fees. There was a statement from a person in AL that rang true with my sales experience.
My salesmen were from Tuscaloosa AL. The salesman told me if I changed my mind within ** amount of days, I want to say 50 days, I could return it. So while on the phone with finance Co. I mentioned this and they said no way. So I caught him in a lie... which was a deal breaker for me. He was pissed. But after they left I decided to buy it, they offered it to me at a price I can't even mention on here. Very low, having ceramic I needed it, to replace my older Kirby. But the other "boss" had to come back from Tuscaloosa the next day to bring it to me. Don't be afraid to haggle for the lowest possible price and zero interest. Don't listen to lies. That's my rant.

I bought this vacuum a while back. Idk why. I had laminate floors, but they showed me how dirty my mattress and rugs were. So I bought it, but never used it, couldn't figure out the attachments to mop and it never vacuumed well. Now I have a carpeted house and this vacuum sucks and I need a new bag which is irritating. It costs like $45. And I had hoped to clean my car and house with the carpet cleaner attachment, but it's useless, I'm lucky if I get dirt up. Ugh don't buy this stupid, bulky piece of crap.

I purchased my Kirby about 2 months ago. The demonstrator was an hr late! And didn't leave till after 10 pm! I had said no numerous times, till finally I said yes just to get him out of my house. The Kirby is very bulky, and I don't feel it does a great job at cleaning, as I thought it would... Sent an email the next day, and no response, tried a few times and nothing. Now they are saying there is nothing I can do because it's past the return deadline... Needless to say, I will never tell anyone to buy a Kirby!!

A couple weeks ago, on a Monday evening, a girl and boy came to the door asking to clean my floors and leave a free air freshener for my time. I unwillingly acquiesced. It was hot out and she was pregnant. They were both sweating profusely and I figured they could enjoy the AC and I would offer them a drink. She left and let the boy do the work. We exchanged conversation. I let him know I wouldn't buy it but I know how being a vacuum salesman can work. I've had friends that did it. Besides a commission they make a base pay as long as they do a minimum number of demonstrations. So me allowing him to do the demo wasn't completely wasting his time and I let him know upfront I was only allowing the demo to be nice. He said he appreciated it and went ahead telling me a few things but he thankfully wasn't pushy.
When it came time to close he told me he has to leave all the little dirt covered discs laid out until the end for his boss and that he was gonna call the office and they will haggle. He warned me it would take a few calls because they will keep lowering the price. I said "cool do whatever" so after several calls they tell him he can put up the shampooer part and his boss is on his way to try and close the deal. The kid told me he would probably work out some great deal if I really wanted it. I jokingly tell the guy when he comes it would have to be less than a grand and less than $30 a month. (the price started at $2495 and they wanted $100 a month) The guy says "sold!" and puts his hand out for a close-the-deal-business-shake. I looked at him incredulously. He said, "Hey, they may not like it but I like you. Blah blah blah. Wanna help people out." Maybe it was the several cold canned Dr. Peppers. I'm not sure.
So anyway we signed some paperwork. Gave them our checking account. I clarified that we would be approved and he said "automatic approval with a checking account" then he says the first payment isn't until October 6th and the rest of the details. The next day he comes back for a couple signatures he forgot. Fast forward two weeks and without a phone call. The pregnant girl shows up with a new guy to pick the vacuum up. When I asked why they said they didn't know. It was just on the pickup list. I made him call and he couldn't get a straight answer basically. I told him we haven't missed one payment. Payment isn't even there for another month.
He explained that sometimes they go ahead and leave the vacuum but it's possible they didn't approve it. Especially after he heard the discount we got. What **! Nobody ever said, "this sale is pending approval" or anything of the sort. No warning. Nothing. The worst part is this new kid had no identification for being a salesman and I only recognized the pregnant girl. They were very insistent on needing to pick it up and I'm calling first thing tomorrow to put a stop payment at my bank. If they try to take the payment now I will raise hell. IDK what kind of business they run but they all seem sketchy and full of **!

I am writing this review to commend the group of hard-working Kirby representatives who visited my home today. The first two were polite and respectful; I didn't hesitate to invite them into my home. After scheduling my free carpet cleaning, I met the upbeat team leader and the positively lovely young lady who would be demonstrating the many features of this cleaning legend. She was very knowledgeable about her product, quickly putting it to use in my home and answering my questions. When it came time to close the sale, the team leader was responsive to my needs and concerns. Next came the presentation of MY Kirby. Neither would rest until they were assured that I could use it! Overall, it was a great experience.

My mother recently purchased a Kirby... I've told her several times Henry HOOVERS are incredible but she bought a Kirby after a salesman came to her door!!! She has had it a week and I hate it. It doesn't pick up dirt. It is too big and heavy. I can not get under the TV stand without having to search for a million different attachments just to clean! Trying to hoover the stairs is awful! It is far too heavy! And today the carpet cleaner attachment overheated and stopped working! I would rather she bought a Dyson! As she is disabled she cannot hoover so it is me breaking my back every day just to hoover the stairs! I am disgusted in the product and it was not worth £1700!

Like the representative said, What is MUD spelled backwards? I can't believe I let these people into my house! My experience and the 2 hours of being verbally abused by a young woman who 'was trying to win a trip to Cabos' match every other bad experience documented on your complaint file. I, too, had to threaten to call the police to get them to pack up all their equipment and exit. I do have a dirty carpet--IF they had removed the stain (and they did not) I might have listened further. This was an unbelievably bad experience. I am going to buy a NO SOLICITING sign for my front steps tomorrow. Enough said.

I felt very violated. Their original conversation turned out to be very misleading. The salesman was very pushy about selling you the product, and spent the next three hours trying to sell me the vacuum. During those three hours he basically sounded like a high pressure car salesman, trying to convince you that you were getting a great deal, and that the vacuum was only running a 1/3 power because he wasn't using the bag which seemed suspicious. The deal was that by having him show the vacuum in your home for one hour that they would give me a food processor. After those three hours he left muttering curses under his breath, and guess what, no free food processor!
The whole time he kept trying to look in every room like he was casing the place. When he called his manager every time, he would try to wander out of earshot and sight. Some of the times I could hear his conversation with his "manager". They were laughing and making jokes about how if we sold our stuff we could afford it. The deal started at $2500 for a new unit, and the last offer three hours was $1400 for a used one, a $69 trade in for my current vacuum, and $55 a month payments. He kept acting very nervous and was constantly looking around like he was expecting something bad. The other reviews on this site that are bad about this company are sadly spot on. Nothing seemed very legitimate about what he was doing. I was so glad when he finally left.

As many of the same of you have talked about your experience, I had the same thing happen to me. I thought free cleaning of my floor, great... After at least an hour later, my kids wanting dinner and the sleazy "boss" came to my house and would not stop pushing me. There were all these special discounts and would even take my old vacuum for me. I told them over and over again that I had just been laid off work and I am a single mother so I didn't have any money to spend on this. Again, he wouldn't let it go. His final approach was that he would leave it with me for 60 days and if I didn't find a job to afford the 52.00 a month payment then he would come pick it back up and it would not affect my credit. THAT WAS A TOTAL LIE TO NOT ONLY ME BUT ALL THREE OF MY KIDS WHO HEARD HIM SAY IT. When I got a call from the collection about a past due bill and I told them what I was told, they quickly informed me that was never even an option.

Last Monday in the early afternoon I was tending to my sick toddler when I got a knock at my door. A very rough-looking young guy with piercings all over his face and mud on his shoes and pants immediately starts talking at me at a million miles an hour as he hands me a tacky fluorescent pink flier with the words "AVALIR HOME SYSTEM - win a FREE carpet cleaning!" on it.
I honestly wasn't paying much attention to him as my son was crying and I was trying to comfort him and I was jet lagged from having only just gotten home from an overseas trip that morning but nevertheless he talks and talks and I get the gist of what he's saying. Give me your details and go in the draw, we will call you if you've won a free carpet cleaning, blah, blah blah. I'm not really interested but I'm preoccupied and I feel kind of bad for this scruffy kid out in the cold and rain having to hand out these fliers for what I assume is dismal pay. I give him my name and cell phone number and off he goes. Except he doesn't. He stands on my driveway under his umbrella for 30 MINUTES talking on his phone. I thought this was really odd at the time but I now realize he was probably calling his "boss" to let them know I was easy harassment material.
As soon as he leaves and I've settled my son, I decide to google this Avalir Home System thing that I've never heard of and I came to find out it's a model of Kirby vacuum. NOWHERE on the flier was there any mention of anything to do with Kirby and as far as I recall from the scruffy kids super fast speech, he didn't mention it either. I did a little more searching and that's when I found this page. I then remembered reading online recently about a local woman who was basically held hostage in her own home by a Kirby salesman for 8 HOURS until 1 AM! Like most people she didn't realize until it was too late that he was a salesman and then he wouldn't leave. She was a single mother with young children in the house and didn't know what to do to get rid of him. I think she ended up calling the police.
Anyway I realized my mistake in giving the guy my details so I told my husband should anyone call or come to the house mentioning anything to do with carpet cleaning or Kirby, he was to immediately slam the door in their face. Then the next day I get a call on my cellphone from a number I don't recognize. I just knew it was them so I didn't answer. Looking back I should have answered that first call and told them where to get off. But I didn't so they kept calling back approximately every hour throughout the day. I never answered and the more they called the more intimidated I felt.
I told my husband when he got home from work and he said the next time they called he would answer it. Sure enough another call came through and he put the phone on speaker. A woman was on the end of the line and seemed genuinely surprised that someone seemingly not me answered the phone. She asks for me and my husband asks her what her name is and what she wants me for. She never gives her name but says "Oh, I'm from PUT Ltd. We made a call at (my name) house yesterday and she was interested..." My husband hung up the phone. Then literally 20 seconds later she calls again. I don't answer, she calls again, and again, and again. Then suddenly I start getting calls from an unknown number. I was honestly starting to feel scared and was now MAJORLY regretting ever even answering the door to that scruff ball.
After about the 10th call back my husband is getting really pissed off. He picks up the phone and unleashes an obscenity-filled tirade at this woman that I think even surprised him. He ends it with "IF YOU CALL THIS NUMBER ONE MORE TIME I PROMISE YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!" And he hangs up. Finally my phone fell silent for the first time all day and thankfully I haven't had any more calls since. Today I figured out how to block numbers on my phone too so I blocked the listed number she first called off for good measure. All I can say is thank God for my husband!
Backtracking a bit, it seems PUT Ltd doesn't even exist. There is nothing about them online so I figure they're another one of these "independent" Kirby suppliers. I'm legitimately flabbergasted at the amount of effort these people put into harassing me. Unlike most of the other reviews here they never even got into my house yet they still managed to intimidate and harass me! I don't know what they thought they would gain out of treating me like that. Perhaps they figured pretty early on that I wasn't taking the bait so they decided to have a little sick fun instead. Who knows. But even if my carpets start growing new life forms in them, I sure as hell will NEVER EVER be buying a Kirby.

I am open minded and friendly... When a young man asked if he could clean one of my carpets FOR FREE and demonstrate a superior American product in my home, I was open to it. I was like: Hey, I have a stain on my rug and this dude want to do his thing... a win, win! It's FRIDAY NIGHT at 5pm. I figure I have a little time before dinner and a romantic evening I have planned with love interest... Then the MEGA-PITCH starts... He is unpacking boxes with at least 20 parts all over the living room. He wants to take the show on the road, showing me HOW FILTHY every room in my house is... How my bed is full of dust mites and their **! Shows me on 6" white round disks, which he frantically keeps changing and putting the DIRTY DISKS out on my clean counter, dinner table, EVERYWHERE!
I am clearly upset and say: "I don't want all this loose dirt here, Please throw it away." He says: "I can't yet! I have to show them in pictures to my supervisor" (a HARD SELL LOUDMOUTH I could hear thru the phone). I was getting mad and my home was becoming a mess! He would not stop the hard sell! I said I was hungry and I had company coming. I said: "Please wrap this up." He says: "I can't. I have to call my supervisor before the carpet shampoo." I say: "I'm done, I would NEVER buy this. I'm hungry and tired. Please go now." He does not listen. He fills the shampooer and starts soaking my carpet! I am HORRIFIED! He tells me only the top is damp and it will dry in 1/2 hour... It is over 12 hours later and I have a fan blowing on my WET RUG! He washed all his dirty parts in my sink and used my clean DISH TOWELS for his FILTHY MACHINE PARTS! WTF?
Now for the Coup De Grace: Calls supervisor and I can HEAR them discussing overcoming my objections and making a payment plan... The price goes from $3000 to $1600 in mere seconds, because 'I'm getting the friends & family special'. Ummm... I was born at night, but it wasn't LAST NIGHT! He was INCREDULOUS, when I told him to get out! He took his sweet time and kept up the hard sell. I was furious and SAD. I wanted to help an independent young business person and get the stain out me carpet! HEY? WTF? Where was MY consideration? He was suddenly surly and cold. He left muttering about how my FILTHY HOUSE WAS MAKING ME AND MY FAMILY SICK!
I am sure Kirby is a pyramid scheme. It was EXCRUCIATING and I am still paying for my open minded friendliness. One of the WORST experiences I have had in a long time! I feel very sorry for the people taken in by this PYRAMID SCHEME! The Kirby sales force are PAWNS in a much bigger corrupt game. I am NEVER opening my doors to ANYONE again, thanks to KIRBY HELL!

A young woman came to my door with a gift card claiming to be a local business owner trying to get people to review her product. I agreed. She went to get said product and returned with two boxes and an older gentlemen. As he set up she took off. He proceeded to show my all these features and mentioned if I buy told I can help him win a vacation. I told him no one said anything about buying, just reviewing. He continued saying I'll fall in love with product if I see it. I again said, "It's nice but I won't buy." After an hour, I told him I had somewhere to be and I needed to get dinner ready so he needed to leave. He asked if I like the product and I said it was nice. He told me I could buy it in stores for $3000 but his boss would give it to me cheaper. I laughed and said it has to be less than 175 or I wasn't interested and again I had to leave. He said ok. He had to pack up but he would call his boss to get me a great deal.
I told him leave a catalogue or a number for his boss because I wasn't buying anything today. As he packed his "boss" showed up. She was a pushy individual when I told her I had to leave. She said, "I can give you a deep discount price of 1300" which I could pay $53 monthly. I laughed and told her I don't do monthly payments. If I can't afford it with cash I don't buy. At this point she got nasty and said, "I don't understand what you are telling me. That's stupid. What's wrong with you?" At this point, I told her I have to leave so they need to go. She tore up the yellow sheet of regular lined paper she wrote the price on and glared at me. It was ridiculous and unprofessional. I, like most people, don't buy products without researching them. They didn't have a catalogue, a store, or online shop... she claimed. Kirby needs to step into the 21st century and fire these high-pressure sales people... invest in advertising and a website.

I use to love my Kirby until I had to change the belt. Now every time I try to use my vacuum I have to put a new belt on. It is driving me nuts. It is so heavy and not easy. I would never buy another Kirby again. It is not worth the frustration. I can use any other vacuum and it would be better than this. I have so many bags and belts that I have to keep using this until I run out. I HATE it.

We were offered an in home demo and accepted. (Please be responsible homeowners when letting independent sales persons into your home.) Our demo went very well. The sales people were very polite and knowledgeable. Yes, they were in our home about an hour but they demonstrated everything the carpet cleaner could do. We have 2 dogs and a bird so the dog hair, dander and seed debris was too much for our older cheap machines. And I hated cleaning because the house never looked clean when I got done. The Kirby does all types of cleaning well and I will never go back to a cheaper brand. I also use it to dust the walls and drapes reducing the dust in the air. We even traded in 2 crappy vacuums and a carpet shampooer. I would encourage you to be patient and attentive during a demo of a Kirby because it is worth every penny. I can provide my sales receipt upon request.

The Kirby Vacuum door-to-door saleswoman would not leave my house after I repeatedly asked her to. I literally had to call 911 to get her to leave! She kept giving me excuses: "But you invited me into your home", "Don't throw away those dirty filters; I have to show them to my supervisor", "Can I get a wet paper towel and a dry paper towel to clean my equipment?" "I can't pack up my stuff until I clean it," "Can't I call my supervisor?" etc. I finally said "Do I have to call 911 to get you to leave?" She was yelling in the background the entire time I was on the phone with the 911 operator.
Also, she was using a filthy vacuum to make it seem like my house was dirty. I know this because the first time she turned on the vacuum she just demonstrated the suction by showing how an entire stack of HEPA filters would stick to the nozzle. Yet the filter she then removed from the vacuum was filthy from all the dirt that had been picked up "out of the air". Finally, as she packed up she muttered something about "your dirty house". Not cool.

It started off with a girl catching me while I was sweeping our living room. She offered for someone to do my chores. I wasn't interested. She said it's for a new startup business in town and we would just be reviewing their service. I said "Sure" (unwillingly). My boyfriend hates salespeople more than me but I always respect the hustle so I let her do her thing.
She leaves and comes back 10 minutes later with 2 other guys. A big guy, about 5'5 blond hair, beard. He wouldn't give me his name at the end. And a younger gentleman by the name of Samuel who did the cleaning and demo of the vacuum. My boyfriend got along with Samuel. He was very respectful and did a great job. We loved the vacuum but to pay $2000 for a vacuum seems INSANE so we declined but thanked them for the demo. We tried to be patient after an hour of them being in our house and delaying me of cleaning as I was doing when they showed up.
After 1.5 hours, I got impatient as my boyfriend had to leave to help his dad in an emergency. So I was straight up with the salesperson in the photo, I told him that my life isn't about cleaning and I could care less what is under a microscope. I've traveled to rural places and have seen the living conditions of others. What I have is LUXURY. Yes my vacuum doesn't work like the Kirby but can I sleep at night knowing that? YES I CAN. When I was trying to express my feelings, his phone rang and he didn't even excuse himself and gave me his back as he answered the phone. I GOT SO MAD. I let Samuel to clean up and for them to head out.
The salesperson got off the phone and continued to be extremely rude with me telling me that I was rude. First of all, at this point as a salesperson, you excuse yourself and try to make things better and not point out that I'm becoming irritated. YES I'M IRRITATED. My boyfriend hasn't eaten dinner and is too nice to tell you to get out. Recommendations to make experience better for the customer: TELL THE TRUTH. If you come knocking on someone's door, it's likely that you're interrupting something. Be honest as to what you're offering. This will save you irritated customers.
CUT IT SHORT. Dragging it on to 1.5 hours was just too much for me especially at dinner time and having been cleaning my house. WHEN YOU MESS UP, ADMIT IT AND FIX IT. Having been a secretary for 3 years, I learned this is the best thing you can do to turn around a bad mood/experience. Admit your faults and apologize and fix the problem. He left storming out all mad in such an unprofessional manner. I WILL NEVER BUY A KIRBY VACUUM EVER. I feel bad because Samuel did awesome and the vacuum is great but I believe that customer service comes before the actual product.

Gentlemen comes to my door, saying he is starting a new business in the area and wanted to introduce himself, says they clean carpets. He said he would clean one area of my house to show what he can do. When I asked him to come back because it was 6:30 pm, he insisted on doing it that evening to get paid $35 from the "company". When I told him he could clean my small hallway, he said he had a bad back but had a family member that would do it. When Joe came in, he is carrying 2 boxes of the new Kirby vacuum. As he is setting it up, and he starts talking, I realize this isn't for carpet cleaning, but to sell a new Kirby. I told him right away that I was not interest in buying anything. And, if he wanted to clean the carpet, he would have to finish by 7:00 as my 97 year old mother would be going to bed. He said he would hurry. Right!
Tells me the carpet would be dry in 15 minutes compared to hours using a steam cleaner. The carpet was still wet at 10 pm! He kept offering to vacuum different areas, showing me how nasty my carpets were after I had vacuumed with my new Shark Rotator Powerhead, which I absolutely love. He kept pulling these white discs from the vacuum showing the dirt and telling me how the Shark was ripping my carpet and that was what was on the disc. He just kept trying the hard sell. I tried to be pleasant.
Finally, he sits down to tell me I can have this carpet vacuum/cleaner for as little as $58 a month. He started at 2,400, which all the discounts he was giving me "because I like you" he says, it got down to 1,700, then 1,500. I kept telling him no, even when he got down to $1,040, or $39 a month. I then started asking, "is there interest charged." "Yes, there is, over 19%," couldn't even tell me exactly. But, kept saying there was no prepayment penalty, I could pay it off any time. He kept saying if I bought it, it would help him win another vacation. He said he was bragging but he was ranked #7 best salesperson with the company. I told him I couldn't buy it that night, but if he could give me 2 or 3 days I would think about it and see if I could budget for it and I'd give him a call.
At that he said, "everyone says that". At that point I thought, there is no way I would buy this vacuum from him. I should believe everything he says, but he doesn't believe what I say. I have a one of those very old heavy Kirbys, never use it anymore. I really was thinking of buying the Kirby. But, once he said that, he lost the sale. The next day I looked at the carpet he cleaned, and once dry, didn't look any better than when I clean it with my Hoover carpet cleaner. That whole disc thing they do trying to tell you how much is being picked up is a bunch of baloney!
Buyers beware! These guys were the epitome of the door to door, hard sell salesperson. Oh, and by the way. They weren't family. Joe, the one that cleaned the carpet, said Robbie, the person that came to the door, was his boss. They finally left at 8:30 pm all upset that they had to clean and pack up the Kirby! But, they'll sell it as brand new to the next unsuspecting person. :(((

His name is Nik. Lol. Nik... He starts a demo. I watch it for a while. Not interested. I tell him he's gotta finish up. Got somewhere to go. He has the nerve to ask me for the 5 dollar card back. I tell him no. I've wasted my time. He's wasted my time. So he packs his **. Asks me for a drink of water. With my back turned he steals the card he gave me off my table and also lifts a half pack of smokes. Really? I hope Kirby sends another salesdemon over here again. Time to thin the herd of pieces of **. This is Kirby's finest? Can't wait till they sink. ** you kirby. Not only will I never buy a kirby... but I will do everything in my power to help sink you.

The salesman was nice and thorough but my problem is cost! I know 2 individuals that have had the demo and bought the sweeper after comparison of the bill of sale. We all paid 3 different amounts - my boss' friend was $900, my boss $1400, and me $2400!!! I get the company wants to make money but selling sweepers to people at different prices and get the most money you can is morally sick! I don't know maybe I am just a good person with a conscience!!! No matter what your income is they are going to suck every dollar they can out of you. Like I stated before the product is good but $3000 for a sweeper is ridiculous! In the end I gave mine back the next day and canceled the contract!

Few min as she followed through stating she will get someone to come by and showed me that she did bring her manager, Dwayne, and John will did the demo but they left him to go to other people's home in the vicinity. The carpet looks better than it did before if I had more time for them as only one room was done free.

A representative from the above-mentioned company sold my father, 69 years old a New Kirby vacuum and he had a perfectly good Kirby vacuum at the time. At worst of all, my Father had just lost his wife, a few weeks before the event and He told the rep that, but the person continued to sell him a vacuum he could not afford and will not pay for because he has no money to pay for it. Now I have to try to fix this problem. I know that these representatives have a job to do. But they should not sell to people who can't afford this product.

I bought the vacuum a few months ago from a salesman who "appeared" to be very nice. He said the sale would allow him to get a vacation or something like that but little did I know that that was just a line as he had said the same thing to other people. As some reviewers have mentioned the vacuum is very heavy and too complicated to function. The salesman promised to come back to assist if I was having difficulty but once he was paid, he never responded to my texts.
Recently, Kirby's representatives were back in my area and I had a relative have them demonstrate the use of the machine. This guy was more professional and very patient but still there is too much to change from one thing to another to get the service you desire from the vacuum. Also, he told me that I paid double the price that he was asking this time which made me even more mad. I know it's my fault but I was surely duped and have a vacuum that I can't use. I wish I had just gotten a Dyson or Shark which cost a whole lot less.

I purchased an Avalir after an in-home sales presentation. Two months prior to the presentation I had my carpets professionally cleaned after a continually spilling roommate moved out and had been vacuuming with a Dyson. The amount of dirt picked up was incredible considering it is my cat and myself and occasional company! The shampooer got out stains, the professional didn't! If you have no mechanical inclination, do not buy this. If you are not in good physical shape, do not buy this as there is much lifting and bending down required and it is not lightweight. Although I love it, it is not for everyone. This vacuum is the best I have ever had! My house smells better, my carpets do not look down trodden anymore and I know clean carpets last longer so less expense for me in the long run.
Cons: The shampooer has a very small holding compartment and must be emptied frequently. It is also a bit flimsy and I can see breakage happening if not handled with care. If you mix as recommended you have tons of bubbles and run through shampoo quickly. I mix the proper amount and put it in a spray bottle and pre-treat area to be done. I then put water and a small amount of shampoo in the container in order to get the suds. It is easier to put the container on the machine and then use a measuring cup to pour in mixture. I recently found a wonderful dog and had him neutered. Everywhere he sat he left small amounts of blood. The Kirby shampoo/vacuum got it out of my light tan carpet!!!
I love the extra long cord, the power and capability of this machine. The cost is high but I will get several more years out of my carpet due to this vacuum. I would not recommend this to my 84 year old mother but I would recommend it to anyone who is physically capable and has some mechanical aptitude especially if you have young ones crawling on your carpets. I will be taking it to a few of my older friend's homes and giving their carpets a good cleaning (yes my parents will get the first cleaning). If I could afford a cleaning service this is the vacuum I would want them to use!

I was very hesitant but felt bad so I let them in. Took them over 20 minutes to get the pieces together and put the white paper piece on the bottom to show how much dirt was on the floor. He told me he only needed to sale one more vacuum to win a trip to Disney or something. I felt this whole thing is very misleading, way too expensive and actually pretty heavy versus my normal vacuum. It does seem to work well after watching the 3 hr. demo and the "bargain" of a $1700 vacuum. But I would have liked to be told the truth from the beginning.

Very few months I'd be rung up and offered a bargain service call, something I soon needed as the machine needed more attention. This year a salesman in the guise of a service giver insisted on demonstrating the new model, saying it was lighter in weight and cleaned floors as well as vacuum. I declined. Today, at about 1 pm shortly after my husband left for work, a young lady knocked on my door. Usually I don't answer the door--but, she knocked just like my brother so I thought it was him. She handed me a bottle of cleaning product and before I even knew what was happening a young man hopped out of the van and grabbed two boxes and they were pushing their way into my house.
They gave me the same spiel about a contest and how they just needed to do a quick demo and the new guy would get paid. The lady takes off and leaves the guy at my house. I told him straight off, I have a son at football practice, the team is going for lunch after practice then I need to pick him up. He says 'Oh it'll be quick and so he played with my dogs and spent forever hooking things up and taking them apart and 'cleaning' small areas with every single flipping attachment. Meanwhile, it is now 2 pm and my son texts me and says he's done with lunch and practice.
I told the demonstrator SEVERAL times that I HAD to go pick up my son from the school. We live 20 mins from his school, walking home is not feasible. He continued on with his spiel as if I said NOTHING. I texted my friend freaking out about needing to leave and that I was stuck. She couldn't help me out, her car was broken down and her husband had the other. So she sent my other son and her son down to my house to tell me that Son #2 NEEDED to be picked up. They got to my house and the demonstrator introduces himself and seems all nice. My sons says LOUDLY, 'Mom, T needs you to pick him up, he's been waiting for an hour already'. The demonstrator got kind of short and says 'Oh yeah we're almost finished' and carries on.
Meanwhile I'm trying to find my kid a way home because it's 3...then 3:30...then FINALLY he calls his people he was riding with and says he needs to finish up so I can pick up my son. An HOUR AND A HALF after I first told him. So, the lady shows up again and then offers me several prices. Makes me feel guilty about not wanting her cool vacuum and this guy's stupid trip. I tell her I can't commit to such a large purchase without talking to my husband. She tells me that he'd just be like 'Oh well do you like it, I don't care if we get it' because that's how ALL husband's are.
Finally she gets down to $50 down and 54 a month. At 4:30, my child has now been waiting for TWO AND A HALF HOURS. Her response is, "aw a little extra practice won't hurt him." He's NOT practicing! He's sitting at a school by himself! She still has to make phone calls for financing and stuff. First call she makes, they say no--but, there's another avenue she says. But they'll come back in one hour so I can go get my kid. FINALLY they pack up their stuff and go. At 5 pm. I had finally found someone who could go get him for me. I don't think they came back. I wasn't here because I had stuff to do, but she did call.
My son answered the call while I was at dance with my daughter. Hah. She wants me to call her back?? NOT likely. I didn't give her money and I didn't receive any merchandise so I'm hoping they can't charge my account for anything. I don't like them having our info on the application, but I really just needed them to leave so I could get my kid!! I could not believe the blatant disregard for a child!! He waited for just under 3 hours. Absolutely disgusting. I would never consider buying from them after this experience.

My husband insisted on buying the Kirby. I HATE IT. It is heavy and cumbersome. The head is too big and I can't even vacuum under the kitchen cabinets or under the nightstands and dressers in the bedroom unless you take off the head (each time) and put on the other head for the attachments and then replace the other head for regular vacuuming. This is time-consuming for each room that you have to vacuum under items and in corners. Besides you have to carry the attachments around with you. Not even a handle to carry them! This is no provision for them to be in the vacuum. If you have a two story house, it would be extremely heavy to take up the steps. If you need a good workout without going to the gym, this is it! Kirby needs to redesign the vacuum! I much prefer the Rainbow vacuum cleaner!

They conned us into buying a Kirby for $2300 to my husband who is disabled. I called them directly back within 10 hours as it was night time and I had to wait until the morning. They came back and offered the vacuum for 1300 dollars and I told them to take their vacuum and please leave!!! They sat on my couch and kept trying to sell and I finally had to get brash and say, "It's time for you to go!"
I was then told that I should be ashamed of myself because the salesman spent 6 hours and would lose their vacation to Universal Studios. They didn't bring back my vacuum cleaner that evening. Now they're sitting at my door with my vacuum cleaner pounding on the door for over 30 minutes now when a posted note was hung in huge letters to leave the vacuum cleaner at the door!!! I had a legitimate Kirby Sales rep stay at my establishment for 1 month while selling Kirby Vacuum cleaners in our area. He left without paying his bill which is over R20,000, even after filling in his booking form and Indemnity with all the terms and conditions. I was offered a vacuum cleaner instead of payment. I was so insulted. I have taken the matter to Kirby South Africa but to date I am still no closer to getting my money. It has been 4 months and I keep getting the Runaround. My services were delivered and I went above and beyond to assist this guest and I've been left with Pie on my face. This is totally unacceptable, Kirby cannot have people representing them that are dishonest especially that these people are coming into our homes. Kirby does not seem to be too concerned with the trail of destruction of its sales reps that I've now been reading about. I want what is due to me as my services have been delivered 10 fold!

I've read through many reviews on this site. I cannot believe that Kirby still believes that door to door salesmen are the best way to sell their machines. The fact is, a Kirby is worth about $900. That's how much I paid our door to door salesman after they started at $2500. Their folks came in, talked to us for an hour, then let us try it out and came back after an hour. During that time, I printed out testimonials from the Internet stating how much others were bought their units for and had a check ready. They took the $900 and I got a Kirby. That was... 8 years ago?
In those 8 years, we have absolutely loved our Kirby Sentria. We haven't bothered with the shampooing system and don't even know if it does a good job. We don't really care. We've tried Hoovers, we even had a second vacuum for a while because we decided that the Kirby was too heavy and we were too lazy to order the bags and belts from Amazon that time around...and then realized how much of a POS the most popular Hoover WindTunnel was that Costco sells and returned it. We've demoed Miele and Dyson units -- and hey, those are nice. They might actually be better value. But if you can get a Kirby for $900, it's a better vacuum. It has AMAZING suction and it DOES the job very well. It's a solid machine. It has patented technology that other technologies just don't match no matter how clever they are.
So in summary - if I were to review Kirby Salesmen, it would be a 1 star review. There is a special place in hell for Kirby salesmen. I hope our little salesman won his stupid trip to Disney World that I could give a flying crap about. But if you want to know about our Kirby Sentria, I will tell you that I see us owning this for another 8 years and unless Dyson and Hoover finally crack the code for suction, filtration and reliability, we'll keep counting. Kirby is a vacuum for a lifetime. It baffles me that they use salesmen to sell their vacuums door to door who ask for 3x the actual price of the unit. Go online and ask how much you should pay and you'll see that $900 is about the price from a salesman. Go on eBay. You'll find them there from $400 and up. It's completely worth it.
I don't understand some of the bizarre reviews on here. I'll clear some things up. Yes, you have to attach a belt and you have to replace bags. It's a commercial grade vacuum, so you might need to actually learn how to use it. If you smell burning, your belt is on wrong or you need to replace it. Sorry. Our belts last at least a year -- sometimes 2. They aren't that expensive on Amazon. Again - buy one from eBay, not from a rep. This review does nothing to benefit Kirby at all because I am encouraging people to practically put the company out of business by buying a pre-owned reconditioned one. I'd love Kirby to be FORCED to sell their [initially] overpriced scam that is an awesome vacuum at Costco and Sam's and other places like everyone else. If they had them on sale next to Dyson, perhaps Dyson's would not be as popular.
If the ONLY way to buy a Kirby was through a rep, I'd tell you to get a Dyson or a Miele because I am completely disgusted by their reps and their method of doing business. I think I might go get some Saladmaster stuff off eBay now while I'm at it... as that's another one of those door-to-door pushy things that is a great product in need of losing its sales force.

It was obvious we didn't need a vacuum (hardwood floors) yet they kept pushing. I was nice and let them do their little demonstration, even though one of the people didn't have any idea what she was doing! They claimed she was training.
Again I thought Kirby was a trusted brand. My grandma had one after all. I thought "ok I'm buying a house soon and this would be good" so I purchased. BIG MISTAKE that I'm ashamed to say that I'm still paying for. One would think if you have to finance a vacuum cleaner it would be amazing. It practically fell apart the first time I used it. Near impossible to switch attachments and the belt fell off on the third use. Hate, hate, hate this piece of junk.
We ended up shoving it to the back of the closet and buying a cheap stick vacuum that does an amazing job! I've had it for almost 2 years and used less than 5 times due to breaking. If I could return this for a refund I would but I'm sure they would have another excuse on what I'm doing wrong or that it's been too long (Couldn't find the paperwork to file a complaint until now). Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THIS.

We had just gotten home from work. On May 17th, a young girl came to our door. I open the door part way because I don't like opening the door to strangers. She put her foot in the door to try and get in. She said that she was demonstrating a vacuum and that she needed to come in and clean one room in the house, that it would take no more than 30 minutes and she could get paid. I asked her if that's all she was going to do - just clean and leave. She said yes, 30 minutes was all she needed. I agreed to allow her in to clean my one carpet. She told me she'd be right back and a few minutes later two other Kirby Associates walked into my home with a pile of attachments and a Kirby vacuum cleaner still in the box, not yet assembled. As the men jostle around trying to put the vacuum cleaner together, they are doing their best to strike up a conversation and ask questions to distract me from what has taken forever to complete.
As they start to demonstrate, they are pulling out these little white filter papers and laying them on my floor to show me how dirty my carpet was. But the filter papers keep getting knocked around as the rep is demonstrating, and the dirt is going right back into the floor and onto the carpet. About 1 hour in and I ask them how much longer this will be and how much this vacuum system is going to cost. They let me know that they are going to be here awhile and that the price is about $2,500. I am taken aback, and tell them that is far too expensive and that their girlfriend said 30 minutes. Just then my husband walked in from work and I tell him that we are having a carpet cleaning as a demonstration of a vacuum cleaner. The first question out of my husband's mouth is, how much? I tell him the price is $2,500 and he immediately goes to his phone to look up comparable pricing.
Turns out the cost of the vacuum everywhere else is somewhere around $900. At that point we tell the sales folks to leave, we have plans. They start packing up but with all these parts, it's going to take them a while. When they've finally finished packing, they don't leave but instead, stand on my porch because they have to wait for someone to pick them up. The next day I called their manager to let him know that I would not be interested in purchasing the vacuum cleaner. He fought with me for 15 minutes telling me that there's no possible way I could have found the vacuum cleaner for less money online. He told me that these kids were getting a trip and that I was ruining that for them. It was a terrible experience. If a Kirby vacuum cleaner representative comes to your door, don't answer the door.

We have the same story of high pressure sales, long winded salesperson, amazing product you can't live without. I always thought the Kirby name represented a high quality, superior merchandise brand. I love that it is made in the USA ~ if that is true. We have owned one of their models for about 6 years, and I have "cussed" Kirby every time I have used this piece of junk! Salesman said the attachments are unbreakable ~ some broke with the first use. Salesman said it would super clean our carpets/upholstery ~ can barely get it to function properly. Nearly every time I use this hunk of trash I end up spending more time taking it apart for some kind of maintenance than I do actually vacuuming. I have shared my experience with other salespeople and gotten blank looks that were no help whatsoever.
We periodically see the salesman that sold us this stress-inducing monster and he has the grace to at least look ashamed of himself. He rarely looks us in the eye and when I have approached him to ask about parts (consistently replace broken belts), he always places the blame on our inappropriate use of the machine. We actually had a couple of younger guys come to our house out of town and hand me a bottle of detergent as a gift for participating in their survey. I just got smirky with them and questioned them hard. Thankfully, I was out in our yard at the time and absolutely refused to let them do a demonstration. Once again, I told them what a lemon Kirby had been for us and I was certainly not interested in replacing the present lemon with a newer hunk of junk. They laughed at my stupidity for not taking them up on their generous offer.
When they finally understood that I was serious about my intense dislike for Kirby they began to walk back to their vehicle. I had to laugh out loud when one of them had to backtrack and ask for the bottle of detergent back. Poor guy was so embarrassed. I hope it was a good lesson for him and that he found a reputable job collecting garbage rather than distributing it!

I also had a young and friendly girl come by my home introducing a new floor cleaning company that was planning on starting up in our town. She offered to clean carpet in one room to show how well it would turn out and then pass on the word to others so when they locate to our town, use them again. I was also in a hurry but felt sorry for her and told her to return 3 hours later. A van showed up with 2 men and a Kirby. I knew then it was a sales pitch. I told him I was misled and he apologized but wanted to still clean the traffic area. I let him but didn't have time for the foam cleaning. There was a lot of dirt left on my carpet from my old vacuum. But no way was I going to buy one and told him that. Thanked him and sent him off. My complaint is that the initial contact lied when she said they were starting a floor cleaning business. This was the first and last time in our 40 years of marriage that I will do something like this again.

I am overall pleased with the product. Only issue with it is I almost went bald because of it and now my jaw hurts. The brush thing wasn't working as it should have been so I changed the rubber thing and it still would work so I wanted to take a closer look to see why it wouldn't start working. In a split second my head and face were up against the metal part of the vacuum. Good thing I kept my hand on the start/off button. I took off the head thing later on and noticed that my hair was rolled on the motor area. A good chunk of it was literally ripped out of my head and while that happened, I hit my face against the vacuum. Now it even hard for me to swallow. I don't know what to do with that now. :(

WOW these reviews are bad. I was actually looking up reviews because a guy came to my house recently to do a demo and I wanted to see if this was a good vacuum as I was thinking of following up with him to purchase one. My experience started like most others on this site. I get a knock on the door and a strange guy is there but I figured he could be anyone from the neighborhood as we just purchased our house and people have been dropping by. When I answered, he handed my some dawn dish soap and said, "That's my free gift for showing me (mumbles) and is that ok?" I say, "Ok?" and he runs off to grab the vacuum.
Admittedly, he was a great sales person. He was warm and friendly but it took forever. "I just want to show you one more thing" was uttered a thousand times. He did a HUGE area of the floor with the vacuum and shampooer and he also did the bed. It took an hour and a half so it sounds like I'm extremely lucky based on the experience of others. Thankfully he didn't seem to be any kind of a nefarious character like some others have mentioned. He did say he was trying to win a trip.
I was eventually offered all these discounts and told I could get a display model for $999. I politely declined and he was not too pushy. He understood and called his boss to come pick him up. We even talked for a while and drank a couple of beers. I have had friends who own a cleaning company swear by these things. As far as I can tell they're great, but the price tag is insane. I'd rather strip out all the carpet in my house and pay for 1/3 of the place to be floored in wood than buy a $2500 vacuum.

I had someone show up to my door and I had just gotten home and was in a hurry to grab something to eat quick and back out the door. This girl showed up, mumbled something about cleaning products, I said yes without realizing really what she was saying and before I knew it she went running to the van to get this box and brought it up and asked to come in. Not wanting to, I was trying to be nice and let her. This went on a 3 hr sales pitch trying to make me feel bad because my house wasn't clean and that I needed a Kirby to do this. No I just need time to clean my house! I have 2 cats and one is long haired and sheds bad. But anyways, I got suckered into buying the Kirby with the shampooer.
I will start with the vacuum - every time I use it I spend more time pulling the cat hair out of the brushes and sucking it up out of my hands with the nozzle then actually vacuuming. It doesn't suck up into the want, it just gets stuck on the brushes (I have all hard floors). The zipper tool that is supposed to get pet hair off of the furniture, same thing. The pet hair just gets stuck in and in the little holes do not suck anything in it just all gets stuck there so I have to stop several times take it apart, clean all the hair off of it and put it back together. This is for a small area where my cat always lays on the back of the couch. Other than that the vacuum is clunky and heavy.
We used the shampooer on a very low pile carpet in our basement - I thought it worked fine until that room got some water in it and I used my old carpet cleaner to suck the water up. I had to keep emptying the reservoir because there was so many suds from what the Kirby left behind. I did not put any soap or water in the old carpet cleaner so it wasn't from that. The Kirby is the worst vacuum that I have tried. I haven't tried to return it as I figured I am locked into my contract. But, I just would like to warn other people to not let them into your house. Do not buy a Kirby. It does not work as they show it to work.

On 10/19/2012 Jed ** came to our house and demonstrated a Kirby Vacuum cleaner. I was familiar with the vacuum cleaner and after 2 hours, both my brother and I were tired. And we are both seniors and one of us has double scoliosis and wear a back brace, which I was overdue putting it on and taking my muscle relaxers to deal with the pain. At the end of the demo, he said that if we gave him our old vacuum he could give us a discount on our Kirby. He said that if I took his demo vacuum, I would not have to wait 2 to 3 weeks for my vacuum to be delivered. The vacuum he wanted to leave us I noticed had scratches on top of the base of the vacuum. He said the scratches would not hinder the motor. On our financial contract, he had put a total different serial number. I looked under the vacuum, and was told by Kirby company that the serial number is located under the light. I noticed that it was not matching either.
I believe that Jed ** took advantage of 2 senior citizens, one with a disability. He gave us an old Kirby vacuum and I believe he kept the newer one for himself. The vacuum look at least 10 years old, the brush is stained. I have tried to contact him by the cell number he gave me and he never answers!! What can I do to make people aware of the salesman running a scam selling old Kirby vacuum cleaners for new ones. Do I contact the BBB? Please get back to me.

I recently worked with Kirby to do in-house demos, aka sell the Kirby vacuum. I read a lot of these reviews and know just what you're talking about. Each individual distributor is ran a little different - some better, some worse. The one I worked for was horrible. It's all a sales pitch. Don't let them fool you. I felt extremely uncomfortable and sleazy just doing this job let alone being around the people I worked with - some were cool, others were heroin addict... The whole goal is to get in a house and then sell hard. I will say that the machines usually do a good job and probably are the best vacuum you can get but the price is bull and so is the way they go about selling it... PS they buy them for 300 dollars.

Again they targeted her. I was there for her and the family through major medical issues. She has the beginnings of dementia. I tried to use the Kirby and besides having to be a very strong man, the machine is impossible to move around the room. Well, my husband and I ripped out our carpets and now I'm stuck with the danged thing locked into a contract from Merchants Acceptance and where do we go from here? They call ALL the time!! At one point they disguised their phone number to make us think it was a real estate company!!! Pretty brazen if you ask me.
I loaned the vacuum to my mother in law since she still has carpet. I changed the bag for her, and the bag while still intact had debris in it but the zippered part that holds the bag is filled with dirt, hair dust bunnies etc. In the ZIPPERED PART!!! I'm so pissed off!! All I want is out of my contract, I don't care if my nephews want to use it for target practice. I hate this vacuum! If I sell it am I still responsible for the damn payments???

I felt I needed to share after reading all the comments. I bought the Kirby Avalir and can honestly say I love the vacuum cleaner with the shampooer & attachments. Now with that being said, the biggest turn off is their approach to sell. I will agree that my experience with that part made me mad. I had just gotten off work (nights) and unfortunately due to the most beautiful weather we finally got in Wisconsin, my front door was open! I was in pajamas ready for bed when this guy in a suit comes bounding up my sidewalk. And yes he saw me (there was no hiding).
I have heard horror stories about Kirby so as soon as he opened his mouth and said he was with Kirby I started to panic. He said they would clean (shampoo) 1 room for free and if I liked it I could pay $35 per additional rooms. I told him I just got off work and was heading to bed. He said "oh it won't take long" so I asked "HOW LONG?" He tells me 45 minutes. Now let me tell you I have 1 large black lab & 2 cats, hadn't vacuumed in a couple days AND the cat threw up on the carpet sometime while I was at work.
As I hesitated he said "can I just take a quick look?" as he was coming through my door... I told him I was planning on doing my carpets the next day because I own a Rug Doctor & he said "OH no, let us do it!!!" I asked who would be doing it & he replied he and another person. Agreeing to let them in for 45 minutes (entire time kicking myself in my head) I rushed upstairs to dress. He comes back to the door with a younger guy (Steven) brings him in, introduces him and walks out my door!
Now the guy was same age as my son who is 28 and very nice. I let him start his demonstration and I could tell he was very nervous so I did my best to make him feel comfortable by joking with him. I told him in advance that I hadn't vacuumed and it was going to be disgusting with 3 animals (and it was), so as he cleaned I was very pleased and appalled at the same time as to how much he was pulling out of the carpet AFTER I went over it 50 swipes with my Shark that I also loved... until then. He had his work cut out for him. He has been with Kirby for 1 year, moved to Green Bay WI from Chicago ILL and is their top seller for this area.
I did buy it for $1,000 with $50 monthly payments (I also saw this as a great way to rebuild my credit). 2 1/2 hours later he was done! He went to leave and his ride misunderstood the getaway plan so left this poor guy stranded. He tried to get a ride home with no success, so yes I gave him a ride home. A couple of features I really liked was the brush attachment which spins for the steps, and an attachment that has a small brush on the end to get into crevices like my patio door. First time in 8 years I was able to get it completely clean. So on that note... KIRBY needs to take a different step in training the peeps that come around to your door. This guy that did mine was so down-to-earth and funny... Never pushy at all. Turns out the guy that made entry to my home was the actual owner or independent owner for this area!

Had a friend of mine over for dinner, and while I was just about to sit down and eat, we hear a knock on the door. And I normally would ignore the door if it's someone I don't know, however the lady was already talking before I had even opened the door. As soon as I did, I regretted everything. I was handed a Glade solid air freshener for "allowing them to take some of my time". They asked if I knew about Kirby. I said I didn't, and was told I must be living under a rock. She then had her saleswoman (whom was very new to working with this product) go into the vehicle and bring out the product. As soon as she came back to the door the pushy woman (I'm assuming she's a manager?) let herself into my house and started unboxing the vacuum. They could see I was trying to eat dinner and simply said "Oh looks good! Continue to eat, cause this is going to take a few minutes!"
She then told me to bring out my vacuum, which I thought was odd, but I did. She proceeded to vacuum a patch of carpet and show me the dirty samples while making snarky little comments and analyzing my face to see if I was TOTALLY WOWED yet. She ended up leaving her assistant at my house while she went to help someone else. So at that point I was really nervous as to how long this was going to take. So the new saleswoman was absolutely sweet, very nice to talk to, and the poor dear was very frazzled as this was her second demonstration. So I clearly couldn't tell her to pack up and go. Especially since she no longer had a ride.
So about two hours later she calls her manager to come help her with the shampoo aspect of the vacuum and she comes in, sets it up, does a patch of our carpet and then gets right into how much it would cost if you bought everything individually, which is apparently $5,000. "But the Kirby isn't that much, or 4,000, or 3,000, but in fact $800, crazy cool right?" Her words not mine. She keeps getting called while here, and eventually decides to take it. And I could hear her outside saying "They haven't bought it yet, but we're working on it right now" Once she comes in, her piece of paper has several prices on it and tells me to pick my favorite. I told her "I couldn't choose any, especially since my husband isn't here". She then tries to keep pushing me into picking one and that he'd clearly understand since I'm the one that does the cleaning. I was very insistent on not getting one, at least not right now.
So she left again for another "call" and brought in another paper offering $50 a month and no payments until June. Still told her I couldn't do it. So she rudely said "Okay." and they finally packed up and left. It was just ridiculous, and so frustrating to feel like my house was being invaded and I had no say in what was going on. Interesting to see how many others had similar experiences.

Had a knock on the door during a rainstorm. They asked to come in. They were passing out free cleaning supplies so I let them in. A few mins into they say "have you heard of the Kirby Avalir". I said no so they ask "can I show". I said "yea I guess but to tell you the truth I'm not a buyer. I just bought a Shark". They said "no problem we get paid as long as we do the demo". They swept my carpet with the Shark then theirs and said "do you want all this in your home?" lol. I got up reswept with my Shark and got 3 times the white powder/dirt they had on their little pads. lol. Was $2700. He said he could do this deal only today then it went to "I take trade ins to help you out". [I wouldn't trade the Shark even up for the Kirby] They said "How much can you pay? This cleans all the dust mite from your bed. You don't wanna come home from a hard day's work, get a shower then sleep in a dirty bed".
I told them "hell that vac is more than I paid for my car". He said "We'll just make an offer. You won't hurt my feeling". Then he made a number of phone calls from his cell which won't get service where I live saying "I'm in the house". Made me feel lucky to have my gun in my pocket! Well I told him I seen them online for 485.00. He said "Well I can do that for you. It's getting late. It's raining. Let's get it done". I told him "It's a gimmick. No one besides a crack head would come down from 2700 to $ 485.00. Not interested so you can just pack it up." I think 1/2 of what they swept up was my carpet so if you need a good vac check out the Shark. Heck if you don't like Wally World, Walmart will take it back full refund within 90 days. I took the Dyson back and went with the Shark. It's great.

Ok so I've been staying at my mom's house for undisclosed reasons. She already owns a Kirby since 2001-2002 and the machine is great. I have borrowed it several times and I can honestly say it is a good vacuum. However, a very unprofessional looking lady came in handing me a voucher for some free carpet cleaners. I thought it was great, then she said she would be back because she wanted to do a demonstration. She didn't ask. She pretty much stated that she would be doing it. I politely told her we were busy at the moment and didn't have time for it. She insisted that it would only take 20 minutes and we would have a room cleaned for free.
So I agreed, to the hesitation of my parents because we were getting some inventory of their business counted etc. I specified that we were busy at the moment and the lady said again it would only take 20 minutes. So I let her into the guest room I've been staying at, after all I thought it would be a nice gesture to get it nice and clean for my parents letting me stay here. So then a younger, even more unprofessional looking girl comes in with this a massive amount of equipment. I recognized it. It was a newer version of the Kirby my mom already owns, so I told her we already knew all about it. She insisted that this version was so much better. I had already let her in so I let her do her thing. She took over 2 HOURS demonstrating the same stuff we already knew. At this point I couldn't really kick her out without sounding like a jerk.
I did tell her several times that we were content with the vacuum my mom already had. She proceeded to do her demonstration, laying the dirty disgusting dust-filled disks that they use EVERYWHERE. My parents were not pleased because we were truly busy with all the clutter from the inventory they had just gotten, but the lady didn't care. Dust got everywhere, my parents had to tippy toe around the dirty dust disks.
The lady showed me some really stupid informational tier video on her ancient phone. She finally got around to cleaning the carpet, but only cleaned a tiny portion of it. The worst part was when her boss finally came back after 2 hours, even though she had promised to be back after 20 minutes, and kept insisting we buy the vacuum. I already knew all the features the previous version has and this new version was pretty much a re-polished version of it. After I had turned them down for the last time, the boss lady had the audacity to try to make me feel bad for not getting her girl her commission. What the hell?

Anything broke Kirby man was straight there at my door and fixed it. Any new parts they had them in the van and put them on with no extra cost. I missed a service one year and it broke down so I left it and got a cheap vacuum. Wish I hadn't. I have had 2 vacuum cleaners in a year, they just don't clean like the Kirby. Thinking of getting another as the new ones look a lot lighter. I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Kirby or their service.

From reading pages of these reviews, I believe I have won for being offered the Kirby at the lowest price yet seen on this site. A nearly identical experience to so many others posting here. At 4:45pm a knock on my door and a pleasant young lady offers me a free carpet cleaning. I mistake this for a legitimate carpet cleaning service and I am moving out of my apartment soon, so I thought sure. I even commented on this fact so it was clear that I believed this to be a cleaning service. The lady certainly didn't correct my assumption. Not once was the Kirby name mentioned, much less that this was just a sales pitch to buy something.
I told them I was leaving in about a half hour so they could come back tomorrow. She assured me that they would be at my place in 10 minutes, and only take about 20 minutes to just clean the high traffic area by my door. I actually had about an hour to kill so I figured that even if they ran long like 40 minutes I would be okay. I had people expecting me. Nearly 40 minutes later two completely different people showed up at my door. Still no mention of what this really was or what product they were shilling. The salesman asked too many personal questions before leaving and the guy doing the cleaning was left alone. I'm a veteran and have tattoos and a mohawk, and even I was in a class above the guy actually left to do the cleaning. I don't care about tats and such, but I can imagine how uncomfortable a single woman or elderly person might feel with this person alone in their homes.
He was actually a nice guy, but after telling me about his felony and how he was nearly off probation - I couldn't believe this is who gets sent into people's homes. Again, I am not trying to judge the person but what kind of company hires a guy still on probation to enter people's homes? Almost immediately it became clear this was just a lame sales pitch. By this time I was really running up against the latest time I needed to be leaving, but the guy spread out 25 pieces of this machine all over my floor. The cleaning consisted of him moving the machine back and forth twice before having to swap out paper disks, taking forever to even do a tiny area (in a small one bedroom apartment no less).
To further pad out the time he was taking, he insisted on making at least 3 calls to his 'boss' updating him on literally every action taken so far, and putting words into my mouth while describing my enthusiasm for the vacuum (I had only agreed that it was picking up more than my cheap $100 vacuum). "He really likes it" and "he can't believe how much better than his vacuum it is" neither of which did I say. In retrospect, I don't believe he was actually on the phone with anyone. Both he and the salesman (who made 3 calls of his own) constantly called the boss "sir" to such a degree that it came off as completely phony. I called officers 'sir' less in the military than these two called the mysterious vacuum boss sir. I got the same nonsense about a contest, and of course how close they all were to winning and just needed one more sale. The cleaner claimed to be working for a hoverboard, while the salesman wanted a vacation.
It reminded me of grade school cookie sales more than any professional business. As the time dragged on I became angrier and angrier while my phone blew up from my friend's texting to find out where I was. I told them to wrap it up, I was already late and needed to go. This had no effect and the cleaner continued to move at a snail's pace. Absolutely no respect for anything I said about needing to be somewhere. More than 2 hours later I told the cleaner to pack it up, he had made me late and I wasn't going to buy anything from them, so stop wasting both our time. He then had to call the salesman to even get a ride. To his credit, the cleaner guy seemed fairly embarrassed by his job and barely bothered a sales pitch.
Once the salesman arrived I told him that I was told 20 minutes and it's been 2 1/2 hours and I had missed dinner and was over an hour late at this point. He didn't even flinch and just laid into his pitch as if I existed only to make him money. Forget my schedule, forget lying about the time it would take, forget that I was anything but a potential sucker. At this point the salesman actually revealed the cost of the Kirby... $3250. I literally laughed out loud. He then offered $2200, then $1700, then $1200... I told them they had wasted my time and I wouldn't buy it even if it was made of gold. At this point the salesman sent the cleaner to the van with the box and wrote down on one of the paper disks two offers, one on each side. The first was $700 on credit with 0 down and no payment for 45 days. The other side was $600 cash or credit card if I paid right now. I still have the disk.
I believe this is the lowest price offered to anyone that has posted here. I still told them no and to leave. I literally walked out the door behind them to leave, now more than 2 hours late. After reading this site, it's clear that the 2-3 hour mark is their intention all along, simply because so many people have admitted to buying one just to get these people out of their homes. It's obviously a tactic they know works. Oddly, no mention was made of taking my current vacuum in exchange. I believe that would have only been brought up after I agreed to buy a Kirby. I am floored that so many people actually let these people walk away with your property. I paid for my vacuum, and certainly wouldn't just let someone take it without giving me the money I paid for it. Nowhere on the disk nor verbally did the salesman ever mention taking my current vacuum.
Come Monday when the office at my apartment complex is open, I will be down asking if these people even had permission to be on the property (I doubt it). This is a criminal enterprise and I highly encourage everyone to never let these people into your home. If their product was worth a darn, it would be sold in reputable stores. This is 100% a scam.

Needless to say, she went to the van and brought back a box, and kinda forced her way in saying, "I have to show you in here."
Next thing you know another lady came in, and the original chick disappeared. Just like everyone else, the price kept dropping from $3000-$1500. Kept showing me how dirty my clean to the eye house was, saying, "You let your son live in this." So I called my husband down hoping he can get her to leave, and he gets sucked in as well. Then the lady calls her "boss." He was not too happy, but they will be okay.
Final thing, when the lady left after 2 hours it is now 3:30. My husband left to get our son, and the lady was in our driveway! They left her in demo without transportation. I kept peeking out the window to see if she had left. Felt bad but did not want to let her sit in my house by myself. This lady was sitting outside my house until 4:37, smoking and looking pitiful. So about 5-6 years ago I was visited by a Kirby door-to-door salesman and invited him in to get a "room in my home cleaned for free". At the time I thought they were a carpet cleaning company and would try to sell me on cleaning the whole house. Please note that Kirby Sales personnel do not want to tell you what company they work for until they start doing the demo. They have several ways of getting into your home telling you the process will only take 20-30 minutes. If you fall for this you will be treated to a 2-3 hour sales pitch, and that's if you say "Yes". If you don't want to buy it you have to deal with another 30 minutes of pressure selling. 5-6 years ago when this first happened to me I was amazed by the product. I won't lie. I loved the thing but there was no way I could afford it. I told myself, "If these guys show up again someday I will probably buy it."
Fast forward to yesterday when I was approached again but a girl in leggings, a sweatshirt and slippers... I kid you not, and asked me for some honest opinions. Honestly, who dresses like that in a sales position? The person that visited me 5-6 years ago was well dressed and professional. This girl in casual "Saturday-morning-lounge-around-the-house-all-day-clothes" was a sales professional? Come on! I was wearing jeans and a t-shirt and felt more dressed up than this girl. I was not busy and the rest of the family was out of town so I said I would do a survey for them if that's what they wanted. Remember they want you to invite them in without revealing who they work for or what they are selling. I indulged them and let them do their thing.
Once I found out it was Kirby I was kinda excited, but at the same time I made it incredibly clear to them that I knew EVERYTHING they were going to do. I knew their spiel and regurgitated their demos for them before they even got the thing out of the box. This totally threw them off and I felt I had the upper hand from the get go. I was incredibly friendly and offered my house guests some water and some snacks, but I still had to endure the 3 hour process, and once again declined to be a part of the "Kirby Family". My current financial situation is incredibly frugal at this time. They started at $2773 and they haggled all the way down to $863 after making me feel incredibly guilty for cutting out their "entire commission" and making it so the sales rep wouldn't win her "contest".
So after my visit this time I decided to really research the company and the vacuum, because I am honestly still interested in the engineering of this machine and its apparent diversity. I was very disappointed to see this site come up FIRST on a search for "Kirby vacuum reviews". From everything I have read it sounds like the vacuum is actually pretty damn good, heck they proved that to me in the demonstrations. But now I want to steer clear of Kirby because of the marketing, sales tactics and support. It has become clear to me that Kirby stays out of retail businesses and does not advertise because no one is going to buy a $1500-$2500 vacuum on a shelf sitting next to $200-$400 vacuums. You have to see what this thing does in its entirety before wanting one. You need to see what it does compared to your current vacuum in your own home before wanting one, I get that.
The horror stories I am reading on this site about warranty, customer care, the 3 day policy, the typical problems with the product have turned me against the product. Kirby does not want you to read reviews on this product before you have already been pressured into buying it. In today's world there is too much information out there to ignore. I hope for your sake that you were able to read these reviews BEFORE you got pressured into buying one. If you did buy one I hope you enjoy it and get what you paid for cause it sounds like you are forcibly stuck with it based on what I have read here today.

I will be happy to join in with anyone who wants to start a class action suit against Kirby because as everyone has said in their reviews, KIRBY SUCKS!!! I was told that someone would be out to show me how to use it, especially how to shampoo the carpet. I haven't seen anyone yet. It's too heavy for me to lift. Now no one will answer the phone!!! If we band together, we can get some action going against them. I'm going to contact my lawyer to see what can be done. We have paid too much money for a product that doesn't work the way it was represented. Maybe if we stop paying the finance company, someone will take notice. If we pursue this legally, it shouldn't affect our credit if we put a note in our credit file about it.

So the wife and I heard the pitch and signed the contract. Later that night she wanted to see if we can return, so I was like "we signed our name, lesson learned." So it bothered me all night. So I woke up read the contract and BAM we have 3 days to return, so after reading all the horror stories and the LOST mailed slips, I walked in the office and asked for the cancel. Yes they tried to persuade me. But not this time. So they took their copies of the bottom cancellation, and the rep initialed my signed copy and I VIDEO recorded this. And he told me that someone would come out to collect the Kirby and give me my old one back. Well if you read the contract, if after 20 days you have the goods "or haven't made them available to the seller" then guess what you are still on the "HOOK".
So DAY 2. We packed up the car and was at the place an hour before it opened and we had a printed checklist of all the items we should up and the owner "Max" of Max's sales seen I was waiting and came to me with a smile, asked if he could help me. I said "yes actually I am here to complete a transaction." So he helped me bring everything out of the car and confirmed that it was canceled, and I had a printed out paper of all the pieces of the package and had him sign and date that he received everything back. He was a little surprised and yes I video recorded this as well. I then said I called the finance company and they said the account was noted as FROZEN. Not canceled. So he said "sounds like you are all set." YEAH RIGHT. I walked back in the car and called the finance company. They told me "OH I can note your account but we need to hear from the distributor that the account was canceled."
So I asked to be copied on that communication and of course they couldn't do that. So I was just as persistent about the cancellation as they were about selling it to me. So when I told them I would call back every hour on the hour every day till they told me it was canceled, they put me on hold to call the distributor, I said "that is great I am right outside the distributors office." She came back on line and said "SIR this ACCOUNT has been canceled." OH YES and I recorded that entire phone conversation.
So my credit took a hit because they ran an inquiry. Which they said would be a soft hit. I should have known better however since I handled all of this on DAY 1 and DAY 2. I do believe I am in the clear. I will continue to call to validate that this account has been canceled and keep monitoring my credit to make sure that no new accounts appear and watch my account to make sure no debits occur.
So was I persistent? OF COURSE. I am sure there are far and few that do everything I did. Glad the wife and I talked afterwards. Happened on a Sunday night and made all the moves on Monday and Tuesday. So do everything I did and video it for your records. Do not trust the Distributors that it is taken care of. If you financed you better get on the horn and be the bug in the financial institution or else you will have a different game to play once they start taking out of your account and this account is on your credit history. Word to the wise this is a world of everything caught on camera. Use it to your advantage. I was trying to be nice. After the wife and I talked, she was like, "Naw I want the old one back and I don't want to spend that kinda money!" CYA take video, DOT THE I's and CROSS THE t's.

We purchased a Kirby vacuum on the evening of 02/18/16. In reviewing the attachments in the box on 02/21/16 we discovered that the attachments were previously used. Which led us to believe it was used as a demo model. I called the number on the contract that the distributor left immediately and left a message that we wanted to cancel the vacuum and explained why. We again called on Monday left a similar message and then twice on Tuesday with no reply from Next Level Distributing. Since we received no response we wrote a letter and sent it certified mail to the address on the contract. I received the signed return receipt back. We received a phone message back from Veronica at Next Level Distributing on 02/29/16 which was very difficult to understand. We called back and explained that we had left 4 messages trying to cancel the contract.
We were told that the only way to cancel the contract was to send them the Notice of Cancellation from the bottom of the contract within 3 business days of the purchase which we were never told by the sales person. We also received a Kirby owner registration form from the sales person that states "Your Kirby Distributor is required to disclose to you prior to your purchase whether your unit was subject to prior demonstrations and or sales" which the sales person did not. I asked him if the vacuum I was getting was brand new and he stated that it was. So now I am stuck with a used vacuum and I'm being charged for the price of a brand new vacuum.
I went to the Kirby website which led me to this website where I found over 1,000 complaints similar to mine. I read that Kirby was contacted and did not respond. I am very disappointed with a company of Kirby's reputation that they would allow this type of scam to go on and not seem to care. I have known of the Kirby brand for most of my life. They make an excellent vacuum cleaner and do not have to stoop to this level of tactics to sell their vacuums. I am not rating the company because of the poor quality of service that we have received.

I "invested" in this vacuum as gift for my mother. I thought she would love this product. Unfortunately, the demo was obviously more seamless than when you have it at home. Once they left I was a "proud" owner of the worst vacuum for the highest price. I still can't wrap my head around the fact that I paid for literally the worst product I have come across. First of all the product is so damn complicated, I have to re-watch the outdated video they provide you with. It rarely works well. After the demo the stain that they "removed" was WORSE the next day.
The worst part - which has brought me here today, is your payments can be made online. (So nice you think, so convenient!) WELL! You can only access the financial website through Internet Explorer. What a joke. Which I guess would be fine, if Macs supported the worst web browser possible, which naturally they don't. In every possible aspect of this product, it is hands down the worst possible thing you could ever purchase. I could literally go on and on but I have to go shopping online for a working vacuum after I figure out how to continue my payments through booklet, because they are so damn outdated.

Do NOT let these people in your home! In May of 2015 I had a sales guy come to my home at supper time when all my children and grandchildren were there along with the fact we were in the middle of severe storms. He pressured me for two hours. I explained I was disabled and on limited income. At first I didn't get approved. Then his manager came in and they did something to approve it. I'm not sure what because I was very distracted. I tried using the machine but due to my health and disabilities I cannot use this machine to its fullness. I cannot lift it or hook up the attachments.
I have been trying to cancel this since last year with no luck. The distributor is the rudest most horrible person I've spoken to. I have stopped paying for it so now I'm getting calls from finance company. The letter my Dr. wrote concerning my health apparently was not good enough for the distributor to cancel under their disability cancellation policy. I am now starting to call attorneys.

I bought a Kirby vacuum seven months ago. The bearings have already went out of the front of the shampoo system. I have contacted my sales rep, and he will not answer my calls after telling me he would send someone out to fix my shampoo system a month ago. I have contacted the Kirby company with no satisfaction. I have talked to nine different people nine different times and am still getting the runaround. It would be so easy to just send me the new part, but no not Kirby.

My experience seems very similar to the complaints posted here. The customer service is ridiculous. I am not at all satisfied with the vacuum and wanted to cancel but they refuse to cancel and said they were sorry. I wasn't happy with the product. Pretty much saying sucks to be me and I'm stuck with it. I tried contacting Kirby but said they can't do anything about it.
I feel like the sales guy lied to me about the product. He said it would vacuum as it mops. It doesn't. He also walked right into my room WITHOUT ASKING, and took my sheets off my bed to vacuum the mattress. Then, he told me not to tell my neighbors how much I paid, which was close to $2500. I then find out that most people pay HUNDREDS less, even a thousand less. And they took my Shark vacuum, which I loved compared to Kirby. It leaves soap and water on my floor after I mop. And it's too clunky and heavy. It takes me hours to clean the house now instead of 30 min.
I feel like I have been scammed, especially since no one will help me. They just refuse to cancel my account. And now that I know how they operate, I do not want to keep this product from them. They are dishonest people who are in it for the sale and not their customers. The guy said whatever he had to do in order to make a sale. He lied to me and from all of the other complaints, they all lie. I am looking into filing a class action lawsuit against this company. I am so furious. I just wanted to cancel and have them pick up their vacuum but they refuse, so now I will take legal action. This could have been an easy problem to solve.

I cancelled my contract and had to return their product and didn't get my money or trade in back. I was surprised that the exchange of theirs and mine would be at the same time. Clearly it was all a lie. Please do not deal with these people or this company. What they are doing is not fair. I hate that I opened my door and welcome these liars into my home. Just so you know the product starts at $3000 but once you say you want to cancel they will offer to cut your payments in half and also half off the product. When that doesn't work they will offer to return the deposit and take another 500-700 off the product. Please don't become a victim of the kirby family.

After reading the reviews I was a little disillusioned by the fact that the people who wrote don't usually mention the vacuum itself, just the process by which they were sold the vacuum. Try to remember, the people who are selling these vacuums are working hard and this is their job, to sell vacuums to make money to make a living for themselves. They are trained by Kirby, who has been in business over 100 years. That does say something about the fact that if it were not a quality product it would have been long gone. You are holding against the salesperson a technique that they are trained to do. They are merely doing their job. They are not to be despised - "Don't let these people in your house!" God forbid...
This is a MACHINE that has powerful suction, an actual transmission, a rug cleaner, and multiple attachments, including a great upholstery cleaner. Hygienitech is a product that has sold for $10k, and appears to be nothing more than a KIRBY beater bar with a light on it so the dust mites in all your mattresses and rugs in your oh-so-clean homes can be eliminated. I love my Kirby vacuum cleaner and even though the salesperson spent time in my house "doing his job!" I feel like I have a quality product. Jeez, people give these hard-working folks a break, huh?

I am referring to sending in the cancellation paper. I don't have proof that I sent it in. I can tell you that I put it in an actual post office box on my way to work on 1/29/2016. I have never had a problem doing this before and everything has been received. Again, I called on 1/28 and was told to send it in. I was asked the names of the sales reps but she wasn't interested in my name or information. I called at 9:25 on 1/28. I called again on 2/9 at 9:24 and left a voice mail and the phone call was never returned. I have not touched the Kirby. If my intention was to run a scam, I would have used it. I'm not the type of person to do that. I tried to take a picture of the contract also.
I understand that you can't enforce a return. But, Kirby can choose who to do business with and GPD (or Team One) Promotions doesn't reflect positively on Kirby. If I would have bought a $2000 appliance anywhere else, it would have been easier to return. So, basically, I feel like I have been scammed and taken advantage of. Again, Kirby chose to do business with GPD. It's like Walmart buying products from vendors. If a customer has a problem and wants to return it, Walmart is in charge of that but if they have multiple issues with products from one vendor that relationship will be scrutinized and possibly terminated. It's a real shame that this has happened. I have no way of showing that GPD received it but they did. Again, I have had no issues before with places not receiving letters.
I was told that the managers were in a competition to see which team could sell the most. I was told that if Michael ** (the seller) had 3 cancellations in 90 days that he would be excluded from a trip to Las Vegas. On top of that, I was told that I would get the wet or hardwood cleaner part because they were supposedly out of it. I never received it this either. So it just seems like one big scam all the way around. Kirby chooses to do business with GPD! Either way you look at it, GPD is representing the Kirby name. And it looks like a scam. I just want to return the Kirby that I have never once touched and also don't have all the parts for anyways. I am very disappointed and feel like I have been scammed.

My baby was overdue for his nap, I have a line of soap scum on my window where they never finished washing it, the floor needs to be re-vacuumed from the demonstrator setting around about 30 filters covered in dust that got bumped back into the rug (until I picked them up), my house still smells like unwashed body from the less than clean-cut demonstrator, and there are chunks of gunk from their machine that he washed at my (formerly) clean sink. OMG. Last night, I had just arrived home from work when there was a knock at the door and my husband went to answer it, big mistake. He soon called me to the door and there was a young girl there who asked me if I heard of the Kirby. I said yes. She said "Oh good, well we clean houses for them and we have to do 15 or we do not get paid and I have one more to clean and it will only take 15 minutes. It's just one room that I need to clean and by the way you have to watch me or I will get into trouble." I literally asked her "So you mean you just need to clean one room to meet your goal and then you will be done?" She said "YES!" I looked at my husband and we both shrugged and were like "Why not?"
It was about 40 degrees outside and 7pm so I felt bad for her. We let her in to wait on her boss to come and bring her the vacuum cleaners. I told my husband something was weird about it but was like "Well I guess they can just clean the kitchen floor, that won't take them too long." The boss arrives and drops the vacuums off and leaves and we sit down because we 'have to watch her'. She starts asking us questions and by the time she finishes putting all the flippin' pieces together it's already been 30 minutes. She asks us a gazillion questions and starts to show us her vacuum and all the dirt she was pulling out of the carpet. It WAS pretty impressive what the vacuum can do but had I known she was trying to sell it to me I would have told her NVM. I am so dumb because we did not realize that we were being sucked into a demonstration of the $2,800 vacuum.
After being in the living room for a while she looks at my bedroom door and says what is in there? When I told her it was my bedroom she let herself in and proceeded to take the covers off my bed. What the hell?! Anyways at 9 PM (2 hours later), I think she is done! She tells us how much it is, we tell her we have a baby on the way and there is no way we can afford it. She makes a phone call, offers us a different price, makes another phone call and offers us another price. We still decline. I can tell she is kind of irritated by now but she says that she still has to finish cleaning my rug or she will get in trouble and I am thinking "OMG I have not even made dinner for my family, showered, even taken my clothes off from work." And by the way she keeps saying she is hungry so I almost felt obligated to feed her.
So OK she cleans the rug, AN HOUR LATER and it's 10pm. She is just sitting there for about 15 minutes waiting awkwardly with my husband while I finally change into PJs and I think she is about to leave. Evidently 1 boss takes several demo-ers at a time and drops them at different places and when each one is ready the boss goes back into each home and makes HIS final pitch. SO he finally shows back up and she tells him how much we loved it but the price is not right. He makes a pitch, we tell him no. He tells us about his family and how his daughter is going to college soon and when he found out where she wanted to go he says "Daughter don't you know I sell vacuums for a living?" You know, insinuating that his struggle is real also.
He thanks us and walks out the door and calls the girl out there with him. We thought she was getting yelled at or something but she came back in and hands us the final offer and it was $37 a month, no money down, and $998. She tells us that she forgot to mention this contest she is in and she needs a few more points to win the final prize. I don't know what I was thinking, LORD HELP ME. I think it's that I was feeling weak and I needed my husband to be the one saying NO but he did not say anything and I felt obligated. UGH. So I said OK. She says "OK, I just need to make a couple of phone calls." By now it's about 10:45pm. WHO STAYS IN SOMEONE'S HOUSE THAT LONG and THAT LATE???
In the meantime I post on FB making fun of myself for being suckered into this deal and a friend immediately calls my husband and says "DON'T FALL FOR IT. DON'T BUY THE VACUUM!!" He said he used to work for the same company and although they are awesome vacuums, that they could sell it to us for $300 if they wanted. By now she is already on the phone with the credit people and I am frantically trying to figure out how I can get out of this. My husband wusses out and says he is not breaking the news to her. Then I remember that she had mentioned I would have a few days to cancel without being charged so I calm myself down and decide that's what I would do. I go back and sit with her in the living room. She can tell I am bothered by something so I tell her that a friend is telling us not to go through with it and then she gets mad and I feel awkward so I'm like "It's OK, just go ahead."
And remember that comment the boss made to his daughter that I mentioned, well the girl is now telling me that she has the opportunity to be in the same position as the boss and said "Yeah he started where I am and look at him now, he is a millionaire." Imagine that! And by 11:15PM we are finally DONE. But by now I am just pissed, confused, feeling so stupid. I mean why did my husband answer the door in the first place?? She does confirm that I have 3 days to cancel (which I plan to do as soon as I get home TODAY) but now they have ran something on my credit so it was just a HUGE waste of my time.
The last thing that pissed me off was when she was leaving I was going to put our old vacuum away and she says "Wait, I have to take that with me" and I said "WHAT??" Cause in my head I am thinking about my plan to cancel so now I will be left without my own vacuum?? And she says "Yes it was part of the reduced price that he gave you. We have to take the vacuum as a trade in." She could just see the annoyance in my eyes. So I asked her about if I cancel then what happens and she said that they will switch the old one for the new one if I cancel. Therefore I will receive my old vacuum back. I have my fingers crossed but have just been rubbed the wrong way over this stupid vacuum. I cannot believe I fell for her spiel and reading other reviews that are just like mine just make me all the more mad!!

I am so beyond furious with how these people handle business. I'm a 24 year old single mom trying to make ends meet and I was somehow persuaded into buying this Kirby vacuum by a salesman who made me feel like I wasn't doing my job as a mother at keeping my house clean for my child. So being young and dumb I agreed to pay a load of $1800 with an extra $1000 off if I referred people... Should have been a red flag there that they could drop from 2500 down to around 800. Well little did I know the vacuum later turned out to be complete garbage. Doesn't even work properly for the whole 3 rooms I have in my house to vacuum. They slapped on 36 months of interest because I don't make a lot of money so my payments couldn't be that much a month so I am ending up having to pay the original 2500 anyway.
I missed 2 payments because my car broke down and my Water heater went out. I was past due by $124. Not a lot of money, but the way they are treating me you would think I ran off with 15 vacuums and all the money. I received countless harassing letters from the company telling me I'm causing myself embarrassment and they have reported me to several collections agencies to make it impossible for me to get any sort of loan and if I want to avoid any more derogatory reporting I better pay them within a couple days of these letters being sent out. The vacuum doesn't even work.
I called them to explain my situation and how I was appalled by how these people have been treating me. They refused to cancel my contract which I asked them to do because a vacuum is not worth all this and take the vacuum back and in short pretty much told me no matter what I do I owe them all the money. They will not cancel my contract and it's not their problem I have other debts in my life. The lady was extremely rude to me on the phone. I literally hung up and cried. People this is a freaking vacuum. You would think I bought the fountain of youth. All I can say is DO NOT BUY THEIR PRODUCT AND DO NOT PUT YOURSELF THROUGH THE HELL THEY ARE PUTTING ME THROUGH!!! I wish I could go back and shoo the salesman away...

I asked them to leave several times because they were taking way too long and I had to leave. They took their time and kept throwing their pitches. At one point they even offered the vacuum for $900 after starting at almost $2000. The worst part of the experience were the comments they were making to my wife, son and two friends I had over. Comments such as, "How can you live in such a dirty house knowing that it could be cleaner" and "I don't need to sell these; I don't like selling to poor people." Yes, that's not an exaggeration. They called me poor. I was not rude at any point nor deserving of the comments. When they left, they took the complimentary gift that they used as bait to get in the door.

I normally don't answer any door bell, but seeing her trying to work so hard makes me want to pity her. 30 minutes later, two completely different kirby salesman came to my house asking to do 20 minute free demo which turned out to be 2 hours. In the end, was trying to sell it to me for $2500. I was headstrong and finally they said they'll do it for $1000. I still say no, they even try to play trick in front of you such as "but I'm only 1 sale away to get promoted", and "you have 3 day window to return", and it's lifetime warranty so I can pass down to my kids.
THANK GOD I didn't fall for any of their **. They also say something about would I consider one if the price is more affordable. LOL, the whole time I just want to tell them affordability is never an issue for me, but I do look at the value and see if the product worth its price. But a vacuum for freaking $1000 are you out of your mind? 2 hours after they left, I looked online immediately and there are 2400 one star review on consumer report saying they couldn't even cancel within 3 day, and they wouldn't even honor to replace/fix the part within couple years that it broke.
So it shows you how crooked this industry is, and guess what, it took 4 hours, and I'm not joking, 4 freaking hours for my carpet to dry after they left. My old cheap carpet cleaning vacuum only takes 1 hour to dry. Also, they also left all kind of oil spot on my driveway from their van, so I was wasting time scrubbing my driveway after they left. Oh... My... Goodness. A fast-talking young lady knocked at my door at 2:30 saying that my neighbor two doors down was getting their carpet cleaned (lies) and as a special, three homes in proximity to my neighbor's house would get a free stair cleaning. It was made to sound like a carpet cleaning company but that was a huge misrepresentation. I said no to the stairs but I had an area rug I'd been meaning to have shampooed professionally, so I hesitantly let them in. As soon as I saw the Kirby box I knew I had made a big mistake. Little did I know it would be an excruciating, three hour mistake.
A different lady (the demonstrator I guess?) and a hyperactive salesperson came in. The demonstrator lady was very nice. She's the only reason I didn't want to totally pull my hair out. We chatted and I actually enjoyed her company. She wasn't pushy. Looking at some of these other reviews I was lucky I had a friendly one.
The two salespeople, on the other hand (who came in at different points in the 3 hour process), were ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE. I got the vibe that the demonstrator lady felt bad for me and was embarrassed by them. I felt bad for her too, for working for such a sleazy company. Both salespeople were extremely pushy and would not take no for an answer. I was made to feel like a dirty, gross person if I didn't buy. ("Why would you choose to sleep on such a disgusting pillow?") Making people feel bad about themselves is the "opposite" of how you get a customer.
At one point, Mr. Hyper sales guy knocked over my dog's water bowl while telling me how my current vacuum was the devil reincarnate. Water went everywhere. Later, when the other one called his "boss", I was trying not to laugh because it literally seemed like he was listening to a recording and repeating it. Ha. I don't believe there was a "boss". Just another tactic. The price kept lowering with each of my refusals... 3000, 2500, 2000, then 1500. Still an astronomical price for a vacuum.
I could maybe afford it, sure, but I didn't WANT it at ALL. I was happy with my current vacuum. The Kirby looked ridiculously hard to use AND my area rug was not clean at all after the shampoo. Three hours of my life I won't get back. And nothing to show for it since my rug is still not clean. I have a "real" carpet cleaning company coming next week. At one point I almost caved just to get them to leave but I thank my lucky stars I didn't. Big lesson learned today, for sure. Never ever again will I let any random company into my home.

I work at home and 2 people came to the door handing me an orange flyer stating that "Dry Foam is the way to clean your carpets." Kirby was mentioned once in small print, kind of like Kirby was endorsing the shampoo people. They claimed to want to do 1 room (shampoo) if I let them do a demonstration. I had an hour available and my dog had just had an accident on my large area rug. I have hardwoods but area carpets in 2 large rooms (about 400 square yards).
I let them in and probably would do it again. They were kind of dishonest about who they were but I am very familiar with Kirby and what a great product it is. I know they don't do advertising and that this is the only way it's sold. So while I was slightly put off by that, I needed my carpets cleaned. They were there for about 2+ hours and basically cleaned and shampooed all my carpets Plus a runner. I was upfront with them when I let them in telling them that I was not going to buy although I knew and liked the brand.
Told them I needed the carpets cleaned and if they would do them all, they could do a demonstration. Also told them that I have a cleaning lady and she uses her own supplies including vacuum. So, they came in and not only vacuumed and shampooed the carpets, they groomed my German Shepherd with the dog tool, and vacuumed my bed for dust mites and their feces. (This was the part that really grossed me out) If I was going to buy it, I'd buy it for that. I was horrified at what came up from my mattress. They also didn't do the best job cleaning up all their little filters. I had to vacuum some of it up (with my Dyson which I love dearly). So I'd probably give them a C because they over delivered on service, but were somewhat dishonest getting in the door and sloppy on the clean up. They used me but I used them back and am pleased at the way my house looks. They didn't hassle me much about buying it.

About a week ago I had a knock at my door and it was a Kirby sales rep. He said he wanted to come in and clean one room in my house and it would take no more than 20 mins of my time. When I opened the door I was in a towel so I had the door just cracked enough to see his face and said I couldn't talk but my husband was coming up he could talk to him but he still continued with his act... So my husband says yes not knowing any better. I did not want to let them in knowing they don't take no for an answer and honestly I get suckered into things too easily sometimes. So he came back with two others - a sales rep and a "cleaner". My landlord had came to the door to do his normal check around the building and said they weren't supposed to be on the property and I noticed they were also going to every other home in my building.
After about an hour of dirty pads and about a small square of my living room rug being done, which never got shampooed by the way, I wanted these people to just get out. We tell them we can't afford it. They continue to call their boss and reduce the price. This happened about four times. They were very eager and pushy. Then one of the guys that was cleaning goes to my kitchen and makes himself at home by eating food that I had out from lunch on the stove... Wow. Needless to say I got pulled into this vacuum just wanting these people out. Ended up costing me 50$ down 70$ a month. I looked into contract and saw that we had 3 business days to return with no penalty. So I cleaned, signed, and returned. Lesson learned DO NOT let them in.

A few days ago I had a knock at my door and silly me opened the door. A man was standing there with a huge smile on his face. He said "Hi! I'm a company called Kirby, we're new in the area and we're going around offering a free carpet cleaning for one of your rooms. All we ask of you is to spread the word if you like what you see." Now him saying that made me think they were a cleaning company or something. I said "ok sure." He had told me to clean up anything that was on the floor in the room that I wanted them to clean and that he would be back in 20 minutes. I decided on our living room/play room so while I was picking up my daughter's toys off the floor he came back with 2 women. He introduced them, one was the woman who would do the "cleaning" and the other was a sales rep in training. Him and the sales rep in training left and the other got to work.
While the woman who was supposed to be cleaning my rug was showing me how dirty my rug is my landlord came to my door. He hadn't been around for a while so he was going around checking up on everyone. While he was at the door he asked me what was going on inside because he heard the vacuum turning on and off I told him about the vacuum company and he said that they didn't even have permission to be on the property. So now I'm wondering how they even got into our apartment building. He left and I went back to watching her. The whole time all she was doing was vacuuming small parts of my rug and showing me filter papers with dirt on it. Then went into my kitchen and vacuumed under my stove to show me the dirt from there. About 2 hours goes by and I'm still waiting for her to vacuum my whole living room and shampoo it. She might have vacuumed about half of it and then shampooed a tiny corner of my rug.
The sales rep in training who had come in with her earlier had already come in 2 times asking how I liked the vacuum and if I thought I might be interested. I told her I would have to talk to my husband about it and see what he says. She wanted me to call him while he was at work to ask him and when I told her I wasn't going to bother him at work about a vacuum she got mad. Finally the woman was finished with the "cleaning" and she was packing up to leave. The pushy sales rep is still standing in my doorway trying to get me to give her money which I told her I didn't have. I said "why don't you give me your number and when my husband gets home I'll talk to him, if we decide on getting it we will call you." She said "ok!" with a big smile and left. Well we decided that we couldn't afford the crazy expensive vacuum and I didn't call her. Around 8 at NIGHT our door buzzer rings and my husband let them in without asking who it was.
He opened the door and the sales rep in training just walked right in with the one who was supposed to clean. We told them we weren't interested and they kept pushing and pushing trying to go down on the price when we said we couldn't afford it. At one point one of them got so mad we weren't going to buy this stupid vacuum she said "fine then your child will be playing in dirt since your rugs won't be clean" I said "don't say crap like that in my house. We're not buying your vacuum so get out and stop bothering us." They finally left. They act like jerks when they start to realize that they aren't going to get any money from you! Don't open your door for these people! I learned the hard way!

I live in a very small town and was surprised when someone knocked on my door. It was just me and my daughter who was home sick from school. Probably around 3:30. They told me they were from Kirby and asked if they could show me the demonstration. His boss had other people in the area and went to check on them. I invited him in and he started. He showed me everything that it could do, with their Kirby pads showing the dirt. (Honestly, it was gross how much it pulled up.) Some people on here said that the piece could be already dirty from other users. He showed me how it was perfectly clean beforehand. Demonstrated with napkins, everything. I know the dirt came from where he was pulling it. We chatted and talked while he worked, my son came home from school and he showed him how easy it was to use. He stayed at the house until close to 6 pm.
A very long demonstration yes, but he was really nice, friendly and wasn't pushy. He understood that my husband had to be involved as the price was over $2,000 for the machine. Kirby's ARE worth it as they have a 100 year warranty. His boss came back and when my (annoyed) husband came home, (there was a strange man in his house with his family so safety was a concern for him) the boss started trying to sell it offering a cheaper payment, etc. but Stephanas stepped in and told him we discussed everything and that my husband and I would have to talk about it.
I hate door to door salesmen as much as the next person. They waste time and I don't want what they are selling. Even though the Kirby was out of our price range at the moment, I eventually want one. I have read all of the negative reviews and wanted to give one that was decent. The machine works. The salesman we got to our door was one of a kind and gave a great demonstration and was overall excellent in his profession.

I had 2 sales girls knock on my door. I knew I shouldn't have opened the door. She said she would show me a demo of the Kirby vacuum and would clean my carpet for free. I said sure. She gave me two scented candles as a gift. There were here for 1 and a half hours. One girl called her "boss" like 3 times. And then the boss showed up to discuss the price. He was dressed in dress clothes. But his shoes were some dirty old Jordan's. He also looked like he was smoking on some illegal stuff and smelled like smoke...the price was offered $90 a month and would be $2,189. Hell no.
As I am sitting there, they are telling me about the trips they would go on if they sold a certain amount of vacuums a month. Then asked if I could afford it. I said no and that I would have to discuss this with my husband which would be home any minute. I had my 4 children home with me. But I made sure I had my oldest on her phone ready to call the police if needed. I even took their pics in case something happened and sent them to my husband.
Long story short, when they left they thanked me for my time and seemed very rude before they left because they knew I was not going to buy one. Lesson learned...I will be buying a 'no soliciting' sign for my door. But for now I wrote out a sign that said "If you are selling something, danger, turn back now and get away from my door". Thanks to my 10-yr old daughter for making that for me.

Our story is just like everyone else. Do NOT let the Kirby sales person in your home. Once they are in they will not take no for an answer. They are overly nice, but very aggressive. I kept saying no, but my wife would say, "Nice feature" or "Wow, it cleans great." They will hook onto any of your words, so don't say anything. We ended up buying the vacuum to literally get them out of our home. Two years later, this super heavy duty vacuum is broken. Now, they want to come back to our home to help repair the vacuum, but they said I might have to buy a new one. Are they freaking crazy? It's going in the trash can.

I answered the door, and some sales kid did his usual pitch. I said no to him, and he went on his way. I thought that was the end of it, but he returned a few minutes later with his more aggressive sales partner. Again, I said no to them, but they wouldn't take that as an answer. I should've just shut the door, because they proceeded to guilt-trip me into letting them into the house. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't extremely suspicious and scared. Two strange men, asking me for my name and personal information, and trying to convince me to let them into the house. They finally left after I told them the decision was up to my husband who wasn't home at the time.
I can safely say it was the most terrifying and unpleasant experience I've ever had with any door-to-door salespeople. They left their number, and I looked up what company they were working for. Sure enough, I found myself here on ConsumerAffairs, reading everyone else's stories about their bad experiences with Kirby Vacuum Cleaners.

I've moved into a very upscale neighborhood just about a month ago. When I received a visitor who was very friendly, he offered to do a demo cleaning an area room of my choice & claimed that it would take no longer than an hour of our time, as I also had a full house of family over. The man said he was doing it to win a contest trip to New York & we wouldn't regret his company (at least it will give him credit & keep him out of the cold). Well, I was more interested in him wasting his own time than my own, & I wanted to know the price - $2400! I proceeded to warn him that he was wasting his time, but he insisted he was just doing me a favor & once finished I can decide to retract that fact.
My hubby & I took turns following this guy around as he offered to show us different things to do with it, including the bed in my son's room. He was too comfortable touching intimate areas of furniture unbeknownst to him. I ushered his presence back to a more comfortable area of the home - back where we started near the front door. Funny how he offered to set up in our living room 1st thing... So happy we kept him away from my children. He was a creepy character with missing teeth & a suit on. He never did clean an entire area of our hardwood foyer, but instead kept to small samples of areas, whipping round disks to show the dirt lifted from these areas. I distracted him while my hubby looked up reviews and came across this site. It was too staggering to miss.
THANKS YOU PUBLIC FOR SHARING ALL EXPERIENCES!!! The sales pitch has been way too familiar. He kept making calls to his sprvs when we decided we had no interest in paying anything upfront. He offered price decreases continuously, offering final price of $1300 with a monthly payment of $34 for 49 months - well we did the math - that's $1666 - who was he kidding??! I mean, hubby wasn't even interested in calling him out on his rubbish. He simply told the guy to wrap it up and informed him straight up that he viewed the reviews status of the product and was no longer impressed. The cost is a joke. I even asked the guy if he would offer leaving the demo filter operator that shows me the dirt as it's being lifted and he behaved like he had never been asked such a request.
Of course I only asked to test the loyalty of the product. Their own supplies are sure to work but you won't fool me when you thought you'd leave me the product you put together in my home (which I have no clue how many times had been used). I truly believe they also sell the vacuums they take from homes in "trade value" which they also claim to give to the needy. Again - who are they fooling?? I happen to like my lightweight Christmas gift from my in-laws!!! Please let the next unsuspecting prey of people stumble upon this site before they get sucked into this scam, lawd!

She said I didn't have to buy anything just let them clean a section of my carpet. Her manager and a sales rep showed up about 30 minutes later to perform the cleaning, but once they were in my house, everyone left except the sales rep. Well that was my big mistake even letting them in my home. He was overly nice, which should have been a warning sign, but kept trying to show me more and more of what the vacuum could do. I asked right away what it cost, which he tried to avoid answering, but finally said it was around $2800. Then it went up to $3600, but he could give me a bunch of discounts bringing it to $2700. He kept calling his manager (I think he called like 3 or 4 times) and telling him I loved the vacuum (which I NEVER said not even once) and wanted one but couldn't afford it.
I told him I was allergic to fragrances when he first came in, but then decided during the time he was here that he would spray some cleaner all over one of my living room chairs. Well guess what, it had a strong fragrance and ended up giving me an instant headache and made me really sick to my stomach. So at that point I had enough and asked him to leave. He then got back on the phone with his manager and continued his sales pitch, now it was $1800 (His great deal for making me sick). This all took about an hour and a half or so. I couldn't get the guy out of my house after repeatedly telling him I was not interested and had things to do so he needed to go.
I had to threaten to call the police if he didn't leave. I was home alone with my 3 young kids and it was starting to get scary the fact that he wouldn't leave. Once I brought up the police he finally starting packing up and that was the first time I had seen him move so fast. I will never do that again and will NEVER buy a Kirby. A woman knocked on my door at 7pm and I thought it was a neighbor because I'd been in my new house for all of 6 hours. Turns out she was selling a cleaning service and said she'd have someone over to clean one of my rooms for free as a demonstration. Previous tenants of the house left the upstairs carpet a complete wreck and the property manager failed to have it cleaned properly so I was thinking of hiring a cleaning service anyway and said "Sure, why not." I should have taken it as a red flag when she mentioned it would help her win a trip to Las Vegas.
2 men showed up about 15 minutes later. The "boss" asked me if I was moving and I said "Yes, I just finished unloading the moving truck 6 hours ago, which is why all my furniture is wrapped in plastic and there are boxes stacked to the ceiling." I saw his jacket and asked him about the Kirby that the other man was setting up. I should have put a stop to it there but my mom uses a Kirby canister vacuum so I was slightly interested and am empathetic to sales people. Long story short, boss left, I offered the other man some water which he took, and let him know there was a bathroom around the corner and he was welcome to wash his hands when necessary because he was handling his little dust bunny pads.
An hour and a half later and he's talked a lot of talk and has only touched a 1ftx1ft square of carpet downstairs. He's insulted my Dyson (which I bought 4 years ago for $400 and I have definitely gotten my money's worth even for it being made of plastic), he keeps calling me a clean girl (insulting), and anytime I try to get him to move upstairs to really show me how the vacuum works he deflects and sticks to the new carpet downstairs. He had caught sight of my uniform and asked me if I was military and I said yes. I saw the dollar signs light up in his eyes and that's when he finally got to the price of the vacuum.
In my stunned silence at learning these beasts cost $3500, I stuttered about how, yes, I'm a clean freak, but... which prompted him to immediately call his boss and say that he made a sale and kept saying "Yes she's a very clean girl... very clean girl and she wants the vacuum..." He did NOT read my body language at all. I was agitated, uncomfortable, pacing, arms crossed, I even chewed my nails a bit. I had to push the anxiety away, take a breath, and steel my spine. I had no idea these were $3500. He kept mentioning a trip to Las Vegas and how he needed to sell 7 more units in 2 weeks. He tried to play it off like he could give me the vacuum at any price and I should tip him at least $100. He also tried very hard to play the sympathy card on me, mentioning how he lives in Wyoming in a really small and crappy studio apartment and sometimes he doesn't have enough money to eat.
He kept asking me about my military experience and I told him I have debts and bills to pay like everyone else, I can't afford $3500 which prompted him to try and strike a deal with this $30 a month with a 20% interest fee and all that nonsense and I told him it wasn't in cards, I can't afford that. He then tried to persuade me to put $900 down right there to buy it and I could leave any tip I wanted. I told him "No, I can't afford it." Almost every time I told him I couldn't afford it, he was on the phone with his boss talking about me like I wasn't there. "The clean girl... yeah... she says she can't afford that." He then said he could sell it to me for $800 and I said that was my share of the rent for a month. He seemed frustrated with me almost as much as I was with him.
His last ditch effort was basically saying that without my sale he couldn't go to his "dream trip" to Las Vegas, and I told him for $3500 I could take myself and my boyfriend to Las Vegas 4 times, lavishly! That was a downpayment on a car to drive myself to Vegas! I told him there was no way it was happening, it wasn't my job to pay for his trip to Las Vegas. He could just as easily go back to Wyoming, work at an Old Navy store, save up for a few months, and then go on his trip. I was so frustrated, exhausted, and I had just had it with these strangers in my life. It was nearly 10pm and I hadn't been able to get my house together at all. I put my foot down and said "No, it isn't happening. I have extended my hospitality and you've worn out your welcome. Please leave." When he finally left, he had done me the favor of knocking his full glass of water over on my carpet. I went and bought a No Soliciting sign the next day.

I stopped him during the process of assembling it and asked him how much it was (I am actually considering a new vacuum). $3000!!! THREE THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! Quickly told me he could get it down to under $2000 if I bought right away. Well, the only good thing about a $2000 "discounted" vacuum is that I can't afford it.
He started talking about financing, how he is working his way through college, etc. After a little discussion, they both left. Took the bottle of spray cleaner with him, not that I care. After they left, I looked online, which brought me here. Although I did not buy, I wanted to post to warn others. NO household vacuum is worth $2000!!! My wife bought a Kirby Avalir less than a month ago and now it doesn't work. She tried to cancel order less than a week after purchase but was told she waited too long. The rep that sold her the unit left the demo model and told her she would have a new one in less than 2 weeks. We haven't seen a new one or heard from rep since. Just tried to use unit and it is no longer working.

I recently became victim of horrible and shameful salesmans who came to give home demo of Kirby vacuum cleaner by assuring me that it is just a demo. These people came at night 7pm and for 2 hours tortured me and my family with the product features. I shouldn't have allowed them but they entered my bedroom, my children's bedroom and literally tried to vacuum my bed, mattresses and everything which he shouldn't have done. Worst thing was that this horrible salesman was not ready to leave without confirming the order. He even pushed me that keep the vacuum and start paying from Jan 2016 but was just not ready to leave.
Finally I gave him warning and then they left. The value of vacuum was set to 13000 AED which itself is too huge. When I told him to give me time to think, he was just not ready to listen. I asked references of existing customers multiple times but was not ready to give. Final verdict: PLEASE DO NOT FALL PREY. These salesmans are cheaters and crooks.

Had some guy knock on my door about 2:30 pm. Said he would vacuum and shampoo one whole room of my house, no cost, no obligation. 15 minutes later a sweet young lady comes in and sets up a freaking giant vacuum with a dozen attachments in my living room. Starts vacuuming about six inches of rug and couch at a time. I figure out not only is she not going to shampoo my living room, she's not going to leave until I buy this stupid vacuum. Exhausted and fed up with the sales pitch (I met two of her "bosses") they wore me down and I bought the thing.
Right after she leaves, attempt to vacuum my whole house. Vacuum is cumbersome, heavy, complicated, and very unpleasant to use. Mailed in my cancellation that night. You only have 3 days to cancel so I wanted to get it over with. Shame on Kirby for real. The young lady was talking like she changed her life thanks to them. Reminded me of when I drank the kool aid and sold Amway garbage for about a month. Classic borderline pyramid scheme. If you want a powerful, but heavy and poorly designed vacuum, you can get a genuine Kirby for about $350 on eBay.

Yesterday was such a waste of time. Time that I will NEVER get back. The whole experience was horrible. And these people don't care about YOU. I was ONLY supposed to be home briefly. Normally, I wouldn't have been there at all. I would have come home... dropped off my breast milk... get ready for the gym... and then pick up my 2 younger children from daycare and off to the gym we'd go! I work from 6 am to 3 pm... And I am ALWAYS tired -- too tired to watch someone perform a demonstration. And definitely too busy. A young girl who said she needed the college credit asks if they can sweep up a small high traffic area. I said sure. She said she would knock on my door after she gets all of the stuff from her car. She knocks and she had 2 other males with her. At this time, I was very confused. Hell - I could have been raped or murder with my stupidity.
The sales guy stayed and the girl and the other guy (the manager) left. And I was alone with Kirby the salesperson. Like many of the other reviews have said, it takes forever. It was about 5:30 pm and I told him I needed to pick up my kids. I've never picked them up that late before. And I was mad because they ruined my routine. They made me sacrifice my children so that I can listen to a stupid demonstration. And the guy knew he had to leave asked me when he could come back. I told him I didn't know... which was a lie. I just didn't want him to come back. He mentioned trying to win a trip to Arlington, TX. What a horrible trip! Why NOT something more believable?
I think Kirby is in the business of lying to make money. I don't believe in their product. I'm sure if we put filters on NORMAL vacuum cleaners it would look just as dirty. I can NEVER support a company that lies upfront to get into your home, continues to lie to make you feel dumb, ridicule your vacuum cleaner -- which I agreed was trash, but I needed a new one anyway. I told him we were thinking about getting iroomba because I don't have time to clean and it can clean when I'm gone. He then tried to say he has a daughter... blah, blah, blah! I have 4 children that I have to support. I researched them after the fact. I wish I had known about them earlier on so I would never have let them in. Don't do it. Don't buy it. Don't give them eye contact. Just shut the door in their face! And don't feel guilty. They don't.

Okay let me start by saying we just purchased a brand new Kirby a couple of days ago. It is the new Avalir model...Yes, they are EXTREMELY expensive. Keep in mind this is a product that will last 30 to 40 years. They are not built to be "disposable" like most garbage sold in stores these days. This is a company that has been in business 100 years. It is NOT some fly-by-night set-up that is here today and gone tomorrow.
To the other folks complaining about the sales tactics...well, I have mixed-emotions on their sales methods, but sales is sales and a lot of times people say "not interested" as automatic response before the salesperson even has a chance to show them whatever it is he or she is selling. So, I guess some salespeople can be a little pushy.
However, to the folks out there whining about not being able to get refund because they owned the product less than 30 days.. In most states you have a 3-day cooling off period. This means you have 72 hours from the time you sign the contract to cancel the sale. The 72 hour period includes weekends and usually this cooling off period does NOT extend to car sales. Those usually do NOT have a cooling off period. The law was set up because people have been known to be "pushed" into purchasing something through high pressure sales tactics. So, this law was passed to give people a chance to cancel the sale AFTER signing the contracts... 72 hours is enough time to figure out whether you were "pushed" into making a purchase or now.
To the folks that are complaining at the price of a Kirby.... that would be like complaining about the price of a Ferrari or Maserati...Those are costly cars... and so are Kirbys. I admit the price was a bit of shock, but considering my husband purchased one in 1989 for the cost of $1600, then I could understand the latest "sticker price" of just over $3200. Notice I said "sticker price." This is NOT what we paid for unit. This is when YOU need to use your negotiation skills...The salesperson is there to make money and you are looking to get a fair deal...just like when you buy a car...You BARGAIN. If bargaining is not your strong point, then don't deal with any Kirby people.
Lastly, to the folks who think they can get a better deal online... Well, you can, but that deal will NOT be from Kirby or an AUTHORIZED Dealer. It is AGAINST Kirby's policy to sell online or through any other outlet than going door to door. So, if you buy a unit on the web, it is NOT from Kirby and I would bet it will not hold the same warranty as Kirby... Ours has a 3 year warranty extended to the original owner as long as we purchased it from an in-home sales presentation (which we did). The warranty covers just about everything except bags and belts. Plus, it's got fire insurance... if the darn thing burns up in a fire they will repair (if possible) or replace. Point is... buyer beware, if you are NOT buying the unit from an authorized dealer.
We got a VERY good deal on our new Kirby... My husband has owned Kirby's his whole life (he even fixes old ones he's found that were discarded). The older ones were a bit heavy, but the new Avalir can be pushed around with a finger. I'm not disappointed with our purchase...we worked out a great deal that was really to our advantage and we saved MORE than 50% from the "sticker price." I would HIGHLY recommend Kirby vacuums to people.

Two Kirby sales reps came to our a few months ago. The boss left leaving the younger guy to do his thing to sell the Kirby. I am disabled with severe migraines & fighting brain cancer, my mother is 87 yrs. old & a male friend that was here is disabled with a fused wrist, bad back (looking at future back surgery). The salesmen went through everything the Kirby does, showing us, we did not use it at all.
After hours & hours, partly talking about his own personal life, we said, "We have to have you go", as we were trying to leave to go to town. When they knocked on the door & said, "Hi! Can we shampoo your carpets for free?!" So, he finally called John, his boss, to come get him after we told him we couldn't even pay $20 a mo. right now. So he said, “Let me talk to John & see what kind of deal we can do". So John says, "Well, I'll defer payments till Dec. 25th since you expect your SS settlement around Jan.'16" & "If it doesn't come?" then we asked, he said, "No problem we can just pick it up."
Weeks later when we felt well enough to try it out, it was WAY too much machine for us to handle. Then a $77 payment came for NOV (not Dec.). I've talked to John by phone & text back & forth & he will NOT honor his word to us. So now my 87 yr. old mother has this going against her credit, she's scared to death she'll be called to court, go to jail. I sent this John a text about this as the finance lady said he's the ONLY one who can fix this, and it's BEYOND me, WHY this man can do this to my mother and live with that? My advice, DON'T EVEN LET ANY KIRBY SALES GUYS IN YOUR HOME. Turns out, this is COMMON for them.

I felt the salesman was courteous and polite. He knew the product well, and wasn't too pushy. He uses a few test to show the power of the Kirby to suck air, etc., compared to my Dyson. It is a better appliance than other vacuums I've had in the past, and the attachments are a nice plus to the purchase. So, yes, I bought it. I will use it soon in many different ways and will gladly come back later to give it a rating on performance actually using it after a while.
I'm writing this review to say that the sales experience was not bad in any way, other than it caught me at a time when I didn't expect a salesman at the door and it takes a couple hours for him to fully explain all it can do, demonstrate how it works, and talk to a sales rep. I'm hoping it lives up to its name, because I will actually be one to use it for many different task that the attachments make possible, such as painting an old work van, blowing the garage/deck, and spraying insecticide on some shrubs. So, we'll see. Till then, my experience wasn't so bad.

My mother is over 70 years old and yesterday I am cleaning the house and go and pull out this brand new vacuum cleaner out of her closet. The thing weighs a ton and I'm wondering how in the world she uses it. Come to find out she has had it for several months and has been unable to use it because of how heavy it is and because you need a degree in engineering to figure out how to use the attachments. I vacuum the floor and go to shampoo. While getting the book out I notice they charged my mother 2700 for this vacuum AND had her finance to bring the total to near 4000. Keep in mind she is retired and lives off SS only. My jaw drops to the floor, I asked, "what on earth possessed you to buy this?" She informed me they kept pressuring her and basically would not take no for an answer.
I go to try to shampoo and all it does is spit foam out all over the place. I go get my 100 vacuum and at this point I notice just how much she was ripped off. The canister on my vacuum filled up, and this was AFTER I vacuumed with the KIRBY then I go to shampoo again with my cheap Bissell and guess what? It cleaned 100 times better than this 2700 machine that was sold to my elderly mother. I call and it seemed as if it wasn't taken seriously, my concern that my mother was taken advantage of, didn't even offer to fix it. SHAME, SHAME, SHAME. No sales person was available so the office clerk (for lack of a better name) said he would forward the message. 2 days later I get calls from the finance company to verify the terms of the loan. I tell them I had verbally cancelled the contract.
I called the sales office and told them, I had cancelled. They said I had not sent the paperwork back so I sent the paperwork back (this is on day 5 now). The sales girl said she would talk to the main office about this and get back to me. A few days later the finance company calls again and tells me the sales office said the contract was not cancelled. The only calls I have received were from the finance company. The sales office apparently does not feel they need to speak to me. I will not ever give this company my seal of approval. Besides this what else can I do?

Just discovered that my father was sold a $3600 Kirby vacuum financed with United Customer Financial Services for 36 months at 96.64/month. He is 73 and is on disability. I am reading the reviews on here for this company and shaking my head at how the same tactics appear again and again. They are hard selling these expensive vacuums to consumers (often elderly people) regardless of suitability. They are still coming into the homes of people too nice to not open the door to them. How can someone feel they acted appropriately by selling a 3600 vacuum to an elderly man and then take away his supposedly inferior previous vacuum?
Like some of the other comments mention the "dealer" in our case also left a fake number which appears to be a convenience store. The paperwork lists his name as "Keeynan". On the company's Twitter they asked how was your Thanksgiving? Mine was ruined as I learned that due to this purchase, my parents will have a bill for the next 36 months that is as late as their annual property taxes. Often when our loved ones are scammed or feel they've been talking advantage of, they are too ashamed to even discuss the issue with relatives or even the BBB and therefore the cycle continues. Can't believe an American company in business as long as this one would turn a blind eye on the sales practices being perpetuated by their staff. I've never heard of Oreck customers getting gouged like this.

I contacted the distributor and never received a return call. Then I contacted Kirby directly via email and was told to contact the distributor to purchase a new one. I am shocked that a $2,000.00 vacuum wouldn't last more than two years before needing a replacement part (a glorified rubber band) and that it wouldn't be replaced free of charge and without drama. I am very disappointed and will never purchase or recommend Kirby Vacuum Company or its products.

Ok today I go to vacuum, still set up from the rep, and after turning on a large black mark again. The worst thing I have ever bought. My carpets are dirtier now than before. So my cousin called me last week and told me how she bought a $1,200 ($50/month) vacuum and she had put my name down for them to come clean my carpets. My first thought was, "who spends $1,200 on a vacuum" and my second thought was, "they brainwashed her!" I decided to play along and allow them to clean my carpet.
A representative called and set me up with a date and time. Exactly on time a guy comes knocking on my door and tells me he's here to clean my floor and hopefully sell me a vacuum. He told me about his job and a little about his life and then went straight to work. He was here for 4 hours, showed me how every piece worked, put some baking soda on my carpet and had me vacuum with my dirt devil (which I always thought was a great vacuum). I vacuumed the small soiled area as he counted how many strokes it would take to clean. After 20 strokes it looked good. He told me to do it 100x so I did as he counted out loud.
Then he put the Kirby on the spot and counted to 3, shut it off, opened the filter and it was full of baking soda. I was impressed! He said he was gonna vacuum the entire carpet and then shampoo it, assuring me it would only take 10 minutes and then about 45 to dry. While I made a list of relatives and friends to recommend (I couldn't believe how impressed I was, honestly) we talked about the price and the discounts I can get. Also gave me $ off to take my old vacuum. At the end of his presentation I was excited and impressed. I bought the vacuum and cleaned the hell out of my house. I was not fooled or tricked. Only impressed..

In the year 2011 I allowed a Kirby salesman into my home since I already owned a vacuum cleaner from the 90s which worked fine. He ended up selling me another unit which was the one he used for the demo and had probably been using for a while. I asked him to give me a new one from his car since he was taking my old unit anyway, he said this one was new.
We had problems with it, I ended up calling the office about it and the person I spoke with said she would take off and have me pay $1500 instead of the $1700 sales price. I agreed to it but this cleaner was not working right. I finally found a dealer in my area, was told that the person that worked out the deal was no longer employed. I ended up paying $1700 the machine that is still not working. All the parts with it are still new in the box. I have been to the office a few times, last time I was told the owner was sick. I am stuck with this vacuum cleaner that doesn't work. It's paid in full and I want either my old one or Kirby to do something about this one. It doesn't pick up dirt and I am frustrated. Thank you.

I was sitting at home during a Monday afternoon when my dog starts barking up a storm. The young woman at the door told me she was with a cleaning service and they only needed to do one more demo for the day to be done. They would be real quick and clean a high traffic spot on my carpet. I told her "no thanks", I was sick with head cold and didn't want anyone in the house. She repeated that they only needed one quick demo to finish up to meet their quota for the day. I use to work in sales so I could relate. I said okay, but was unprepared for the nice young lady to walk away and some middle aged guy with, I kid you not, his goatee in a ponytail walk into my house. I saw the Kirby box and remembered a demo at my house when I was a kid. I was a little interested in what they could pull out of my carpet because my current house is 200 years old.
He asked me where I wanted to clean and I told him the entry way was the place with the most traffic. The sales guy ignored me and went into the living room where my 3 yr old was watching TV in his underwear. I should also say that for the entire demo I was in my bathrobe, pj's and slippers coughing up a storm and blowing my nose. I told the guy I only cared about helping them out to get their last demo so they could be done for the day and I wasn't buying anything. I repeated that several times over the next 2 and 1/2 hours.
The guy did all the usual demonstrations, yeah my carpet is dirty, my current vacuum isn't as good, blah, blah, blah. I told him I saw the value in the product but absolutely was not going to buy it. I told him it wasn't a matter of value it was that I had absolutely no money. He just kept going, calling his boss to get some special deal and lower payments. He kept bringing up meeting his quota and winning a trip to Florida (for him, not me). Finally he got the payments down to just $25 with nothing down and putting "$100 he was going to win by meeting his quota" and the full cost of my Shark vacuum off and casually mentioned that the payments would go up to $89 next year (it's November). He did the whole assumptive sale and handed me the paperwork. I handed it back and said I still wasn't buying it. He just stared like he couldn't understand.
I had to repeat that I wasn't under any circumstances buying the damn thing. He just wouldn't stop and I started to get really uncomfortable. He then told me he won a free Kirby just that morning in some drawing and he could sell that to me for really cheap. He asked what we would have to do to get that done. I told him flat out he'd have to give it to me for free (I knew he wouldn't, but at this point I was past being nice and understanding). He said he was going to ignore that.
Finally I had to get angry and told him I was done and he needed to leave. He was still trying to make the sale and trying to move on to the shampooing demo. I told him not to bother. He told me my carpet was so dirty it probably wasn't a good idea anyway (jerk). By now the van that dropped him off was gone. He had to call them to pick him up. He cleaned the vacuum with a wet paper towel and left it on my floor along with all the dirty filters he'd used. I'd asked him earlier if he wanted a garbage bag and he said no he had a bag to put them all in. He stood outside my house smoking and flicked his cigarette butt in my yard (you know, that place where my children play).Thank goodness they were pulling out when my husband pulled in from picking our daughter up at school. He probably would have punched the guy.

I answered the door and a young fella asks if he can clean my carpet in one high traffic room/area so that he can get credit and go on a trip to Reno. Today was some big important day for Kirby and if he could clean my carpet and get me to just tell one person about my cleaning experience with the vacuum I could help him win and go on this trip. I probably asked about 4 or times, that's it??? Just tell a friend about my experience with Kirby??? He pointed out that this is the only way that Kirby advertises, that I would never see them on TV, online, or in advertisements. I really needed my hallway cleaned and so I agreed.
About 20 minutes later he and another guy came with the vacuum and the new guy started demonstrating it and the original salesman left. The vacuum was impressive in my opinion, the gentleman did keep cleaning the same area and never really totally vacuumed the hallway. This rep was somewhat professional, however he was moving really slowww and after vacuuming with 20 pads, showing me many different uses of the equipment, and cleaning a window he then started to shampoo and discussing price. In the meantime he made a phone call saying that I liked the vacuum, but that I wasn't comfortable with the process.
Knock Knock! A nightmare came through the door, this man Devonte made me feel really uncomfortable. This young man was so rude, verbally abusive, shady, and he even started insulting me at some point. I started raising my voice letting him know that it was time to leave after the insults. I'm glad that I stood my ground and hopefully taught my children a thing or two.
Don't ever let a vacuum cleaner salesperson in your home and stand your ground to avoid getting ripped off. I was being offered this vacuum anywhere from $2400 down to $1080 or $30.00 per month. I'm sure I took a ding on my credit for them checking and I don't have $30.00 a month for a vacuum and well that would have been a rip off considering the machine was used, is about 4 years old technology wise, and you can buy it for about $500.00 brand new online. For the entire day after this incident I felt terrible about this experience and cringed at the thought of other people who were scammed into highway robbery!!! I just want to tell every consumer beware! If Kirby is associated with these salespeople, nobody should ever purchase their vacuums, I was just moments from calling the police I was so uncomfortable and I have been around the block a few times!!!

HOWEVER, I bought a Kirby Ultimate G series vacuum 13 years ago and it lasted me this long. There are so many different attachments for so many uses. In 13 years, I've never had a problem. If you want a cheaper vacuum, you'll be buying a new one in a couple years.

I actually had been wanting a Kirby because my piece of crap Hoover WindTunnel died. Again. And it is my 2nd WindTunnel in 2 years. Both were purchased new and both died. I hate them. I also have a DirtDevil and it is a piece of crap, too. I have spent over $500 in the past 2 years on vacuum cleaners and about $200 on repairs and I am just done. Kirby vacuums work, even if they sell them door-to-door, which is super annoying. I love this vacuum cleaner. I do. The guys who came over were nice and respected that I gave them a time limit of an hour. They left in an hour. So I have no complaints. I just wish you could order online. I might have bought one 2 years ago if they did...
It actually pulls up pet hair. It cleans wonderfully. Most of the functions are very basic, mechanical things like actually turning knobs and winding your own chord instead of the retractable thing. After 2 vacuums with retractable chords that ended up refusing to retract after a while, I am happy to have something that just lets me do things manually. Lets parts to break. Oh, and this isn't plastic and cheap. It is heavy-duty. You get what you pay for. The end.

One day, my husband received a call from a man offering him a free cleaning on our home, our carpet or our tile floor. It sound kind of weird but, since it was free he agree to have our home cleaned. We set up an appointment at 7 pm, October 29. We assumed it was a kind of a new carpet cleaning, a pesticide company or company trying to advertise themselves. The guy who called never mentioned that it's a vacuum demonstration.
So 2 guys (one maybe his supervisor and the other one is a Filipino, a sale representative), anyway, they arrived around 7 pm with a "new vacuum" in a box. The Filipino stayed and the other one left then we realized it was a sales presentation. But at this point I felt terrible for this Filipino guy trying to do his job. He explained to me that he will do a Kirby vacuum presentation with no obligation to buy anything. Just fill up the survey forms, comments and rate us.
Anyway, he started to unpack a vacuum and a bunch of attachments then he started to clean our carpet, our mattress, our floor (a small area on each one). Then after 3 hours of watching his demo and hearing the wonders of this machine, he started to clean the floor, what by the way, ended up looking exactly the same dirty as it was before. He asked to guess how much this machine was. I said, AED 1000.00? He said, AED 12,959.00. We was shocked by the ridiculous price, then he said, "I need to call my boss to pick me up". Then he call his "boss" and started to go lower in the price and after 3 calls the wonderful machine ended up in AED 12,959.00.
We said, "NO!" And we are not planning to buy anything. We explained to them that we are in no position to have an extra bill but they won't stop and he had to call his boss to explain the situation! He was in some contest so he had to at least sell! My husband with a good heart agreed to pay AED 1000.00 a month, he give a check and the seller tells my husband not to tell to others the price even to our friend who refer us from this Kirby Avalir vacuum.
After 5 hours of purchasing the item, we canceled within 24 hours. We notified the sales representative that have the vacuum pick up from our house and we are canceling the vacuum for financial reason. We keep on calling the Filipino guy and he never answer. After 3 days they come back informing us that we can't have the vacuum to be returned because it was registered at Kirby warranty unless we will pay the AED 4,000.00. They are telling that one name one registration only so it can be cancelled.
We are canceling our order because it's not worth it at all! We can use that AED 1000.00 to buy diapers, milk for our newborn and food for our kids in the Philippines than a heavy and complicated vacuum! We can't afford to be so stressed and to get pushed so hard by someone, I am avoiding my husband from all of this stress because he just have his ischemic attack (stroke) one (1) month ago and he still under medication. They are very pushy salespeople!

When I answered the doorbell a woman I had never seen before gave me a high speed plea to allow her to clean something in my home because she wanted to move into the area and had to demonstrate. She could do 100 cleanings before she would be allowed to open an office here. She seemed very serious about that and emphasized I would not need to buy anything, asking me if I could refer her to anyone else so she could meet the number required. Just let her clean ANYTHING, she said, even just a pillow or a cushion counted.
I do not like strangers in my home but she seemed harmless and I am an older person who was raised to try to be nice to people and look out for neighbors and so on, so I finally asked her to have a look at my bathroom floor and see if she could do anything for it--it looked like it had never been cleaned before I moved in and I can't get down on my knees to scrub anymore. She assured me she could and left to get her equipment. When she came back she brought in a strange man carrying boxes who was actually doing the cleaning, thanked me, and left. When he pulled out that distinctive lower part of the machine I knew I'd been hornswoggled.
I am quite familiar with the good and bad points of Kirbys from growing up with one owned first by my grandmother and then my mother but I figured I might as well let him take 30-45 minutes of my time to try to clean the bathroom floor and practice his sales pitch in return. That was a bad mistake. He spent a long period of time running the vacuum over the same small patch of carpeting near my entryway door over and over, showing me how it continued to pick up dust and carpet fluff for several filter pads worth and talking about the various selling points even after I explained my familiarity with Kirbys.
When he touched on price I told him I was uninterested in buying one, and asked about the bathroom floor. "If it cleans that, will you buy it?" he asked, and I burst out laughing. I truly thought he was joking. When I said no, he replied, "Why bother, then?" Until I pointed out I'd been told this was only me allowing someone to do some small cleaning job to fill some requirement and that the woman and I had specifically settled on the bathroom floor. At that point the salesman told me he hadn't known that and changed the machine to clean lino, sprayed the bathroom floor with something, and ran it over the floor. (The only change I saw was that most of the floor got shinier. The dirt in the pitty portions of the textured lino didn't budge.)
Then he proceeded to take the shampooer/floor cleaner off the machine, asked if he could rinse it out, did so in my KITCHEN sink over the dishes waiting to be washed, and tried to wipe it off with my nice dish towel which he called a rag!!! After I stopped him and got him something else to use he carried it and the attachment back into my living room and proceeded to dismantle the rest of the machine, wiping other shampooer parts with the rag and dropping it on the carpet after each as well as wiping his fingers on the carpet after he touched each of the two other parts that were soiled with the oily stuff he had used on the bathroom floor!!! All this RIGHT on the same area he had demo-vacuumed, which is exactly where anyone coming in will have to step, ensuring the oily stuff will be carried all over my home!!! He was "disinclined" to not do any of this... and worst of all, he kept pushing me to buy the Kirby.
I finally explained that my health is deteriorating and that I am currently looking for a car that can just get me back and forth to physical therapy which (along with other elements of my medical plan) will hopefully change that, and that even for such an important reason I can't afford more than $1000 for the car which is making THAT difficult to find... "So you can understand why I would never spend $3000 for a vacuum cleaner, or even buy anything I had to make payments on at all". His reply? "So if I get it down to $30 a month you'll buy it." I just stared.
Yes, salespeople like to make sales, that's how they earn a living; but any salesperson who first brags about how he normally pays $3500 for a POOL CUE and just saw one for a real bargain at $2100 and then utterly ignores the health related reality of someone trying to explain it to nicely and politely turn off his constant pushing to buy an unaffordable vacuum is not a real salesperson. There are other words to describe such people--some are in the title. And EVEN THEN, he didn't quit pushing. He took up 3 or more hours and upset me so much by the end I was thinking of just yelling at him to get out of my house and tossing the various parts of his demo Kirby out the door after him.
Why, exactly, is this kind of abusive misrepresentation and unresponsive psychological pushing legal? I am a veteran and one of my disabilities is PTSD, and now I am seriously considering never opening my door to anyone I don't know well again. I can't afford to be so stressed and to get pushed so hard by someone who invades my home on pretext and stays long after I need him to leave. It's as if the scary PTSD vet behaved morally, nicely, politely, and with great restraint while the "normal" people did all the "bad" stuff--right from lying through insulting/besmirching my home and into intimating that my health and life mattered less than buying an overpriced vacuum so some fool could get another several thousand dollar piece of wood!
Makes me wonder if Warren Buffett, who apparently is behind the fashion in which these vacuums are sold according to the guy who was here, ever told anyone "Thank you for your service" with a straight face. My advice? Never say yes and open your door to anyone who shows up with a sob story involving ANY kind of cleaning!

I have to say the product is extremely well built. My mom had one for 17 years and never replaced anything but the belts and bags. The sales pitch though, is exactly what everyone else here has described. Kid gets to the door, wants to make sure he cleans something or he doesn't get paid... I assumed I could let him clean one carpet and sign something to show he'd given me the pitch. 3.5 hrs later, he's still in my house, his "manager" is there too, and they're dropping the price like crazy. 1/2 off the list price. So I bought it... and candidly I've already washed all my carpets (YAY!) and my mattresses and used the synthetic horse hair extension to dust everything in the house.
I believe there's a lot of value here. The one downside to the product is that it IS very noisy. That said, I was already researching carpet cleaners (about $300) and a canister vac (anywhere from $100-$400). So I felt like this saved me from buying three items which - honestly - I would hate to have to stuff into my closet anyway. If you can make it through the sales pitch, or, somehow avoid it, I recommend the product. The sales approach though -- leaves something to be desired.

I have read some bad repo have went on. I'm scared my daughter will be threaten or called names. They don't even have carpet. They sure as heck didn't need or want a $2000 vacuum. Kirby sucks. Buy one from Walmart $200 or under. They work just as good and you won't have payments that could go towards something much more needed than a Kirby. Kirby should be shut down! Or have rules and time limit on how long they set and bug the crap out of people to buy. If you're reading this tell them you don't need their services, make something up, get them out your home now!!

Reading all the comments regarding the sale of Kirby vacuums, it sounds like these salesperson have the same training or a script they follow. Last night I got this guy knocking on my door asking me if I wanted to hear about their "cleaning services." I agreed and he said he would get some material to show me from his vehicle. He came back with a couple of boxes in hand, immediately I thought this must be sale; which I asked in the middle of the 2 1/2 sales presentation.
Same story line as everyone here, no commitment to buy but when it came down to it, it was offer after offer to get you to make a purchase. I finally agreed to buy the machine. In the process of filling out the paperwork I pick up my phone and search the internet for Kirby vacuum and I find this website, with not one single positive comment about the vacuum or the sales people, which immediately raised red flags and I tell him about this, which in turn he says that they have an A plus rating on Better Business Bureau and I should look at the Kirby website (they have positive comments about the vacuum there, I don't doubt it they do). I look at the Better Business Bureau website and his company has a big F for rating. I showed him and he seem very surprised by this. Hopefully more people are doing their research and due diligence before getting into a contract deal from these door to door sales.

I've read tons of complaints on the Kirby vacuum system, and I'm sure there are terrible salespersons out there, but for once, I'm going to say something positive. I already owned a Kirby Sentria for years and I loved everything about it (other than I got the vacuum at a discounted price because I wanted a used one and it had no warranty). Angela was my salesperson (from San Antonio) and she was fresh out of the "academy." She was extremely polite and used all the right tactics, plus she was beautiful. I allowed her to come inside and show me what the new system could do knowing that it's a pricey product and I wouldn't be able to afford it. She entered, set up the equipment and explained everything in detail. After vacuuming a few spots on my house I was amazed at the amount of dog hair and dirt pulled from my carpet. I knew my other Kirby was old and not functioning as well as it should but I didn't know it missed that much.
Other than the fact that the new Kirby worked properly and would come with a LIFETIME warranty, I was pleased with the cages in the product, especially with the visual design and the shampoo system. After Angela called and landed me a great payment plan that fit my budget well, I signed the contract. I thought after my name was on the paper, she'd pack up and leave, but she didn't. Matter of fact, she stayed at the house and continued to clean the 54' piece of carpet she said she would, and as it dried, she stayed around and played with my children, encouraged them to help me with household chores, told them stories, and even signed my daughter's cast (she had broken her arm 4 weeks ago). My Kirby experience in the past was good, this time around it was even better. I'm proud to be a part of the Kirby family.

I have to preface this with the fact that I was genuinely curious about Kirby and what they had to offer. I'd heard of them but never had a demonstration done. I thought, why not? Never again! The guy doing the demonstration was very nice and not pushy at all. Great guy. He spent 3 1/2 hours in my house. WAY too long. Should be an hour tops. Something went wrong with the vacuum and he filled my house with smoke. He "washed" a window for me. It didn't work, the foam stuff just dried all over the window and looks worse than before, and that's saying something. THREE men came into my house to sell this thing to me after the demonstration. That is way too many for a SAHM with two little kids (and expecting a baby). Very uncomfortable.
They got very pushy at the end and couldn't understand why I didn't want to buy a $3500 machine. When he finally shampooed the one "area" (which was more like, spot), it smelled bad, like yucky soap and wet dog. He promised it would be dry in 20-40 minutes. It took HOURS. And now that it's dry, it's gross and sticky feeling. The "boss" talked to me on the sales guy's phone, and tried all the same tactics the original guys did. No, no, and no. Not interested. All in all, the machine did pick up a lot of dirt that my Shark left behind. But I can live with a little dirt in my carpet.

I was relaxing minding my own business (football Sunday) when I notice a lady walking onto my porch. When I opened the door, the lady tells me that they are offering a FREE (should have been my first red flag) carpet cleaning in the room of your choice. I initially thought she was from a carpet cleaning company -- plus I did have some spots on my carpet that needed touched up, so I told her, "Sure." She then made a phone call and a black suburban pulls in front of my house within three minutes. Some guy comes in and tells me that he is going to make my carpet look brand new again. So far so good. The salesman then starts putting together his Kirby machine while asking me to grab my current vacuum. This is about the time I realize I made a mistake.
Why is he so concerned with my vacuum cleaner? And why am I doing all this work to aid him in his "demonstration" when all I want to do is sit quietly and watch my football games while my carpet is being cleaned. The salesman keeps telling me how terrible my vacuum cleaner is and I assure him I have had no problems with it. The demonstration then turns to him gathering dirt that his Kirby is sucking up and collecting on these little white filter pads. Pad after pad is put into the Kirby and then pulled out with dirt and dust on it. All of these pads the salesman tosses to the side once he has shown the amount of dirt on them. At this point, these pads are piling up and cluttering up the floor. The salesman up to this point had been very friendly, but it was becoming clear that he was there to sell me a Kirby.
Fast forward three and a half hours later... By this time in my ordeal, the salesman had become an unwelcomed house guest. I had grown tired of hearing how my vacuum is terrible and frankly was just ready to get my carpet clean. Once he did the carpet, I will admit they looked nice. But my carpet looks nice after I shampoo it with MY OWN carpet cleaner as well. This was the longest path I had ever taken to simply get my carpet cleaned. Once the "nice" salesman realized that he couldn't "welcome me to the Kirby family" his entire demeanor changed. He brought the price down from $2700 to $1500 to $1100 all the way down to $800 if I could pay now. I again told him no and he shook his head and acted like I was a major disappointment to him. He had finally gave up and began putting his stuff back into the boxes.
I asked him to make sure he grabs the dirty pads which were lying all around (about 40 of them in total) and he told me they were to serve as a reminder to me of what I was turning down! His ride/manager shows up in the middle of me telling him that he will be picking up these dirty pads before he leaves. The manager literally writes down a figure and slides it to me as if I'm not standing four feet from him. I tell him no and he sighs heavily and starts picking up the dirty pads. The salesman never picked a single one up. I was shocked. I bet they would have picked them up had I purchased a Kirby! In summary... unless you want a Kirby, clean your own floors and tell them, "No thanks." It will save you an entire afternoon.

10/3/2015 Two folks knocked on the door and was asked if they could present a demo of a sweeper. The fellow said they were training a new girl and I could help out by letting them give a demo and clean a room for me. Okay. It is cold, rainy, and I was bored so go ahead. The room quickly became heavy traffic area only. They would be right back. Two other folks showed up with equipment. A young lady stayed and the other new girl soon arrived. I did not appreciate the demo although I could tell it was a good sweeper. First thing I noticed is both girls smelled of cigarette smoke. Second thing that got me is that before I knew it she had this thing up on my bed running it over the same spot over and over. Never asked. Absolutely ruined the sheet fibers where she ran it and it was the best set I had in the house.
If you are going to demo it on a bed BRING YOUR OWN PROTECTIVE COVER to run the machine on. Did not noticed the damage until bedtime. She asked for baking soda. I had some. Totally unaware of the fact that she would dump 1/2 of a brand new box on one spot in my carpet and rub it until you could not see it any more. Again, if you are going to need baking soda for a demo - BRING YOUR OWN. Then she proceeded to clean the heavy traffic area of my bedroom with so many soap suds it was bubbling out the back and fronts of the machine.
She had made it a point that professional cleaners soak the carpet with water and ruin the boards underneath the carpet. Hers would use a foam that would evaporate and the rug would be dry before she left. It was not. As a matter of fact it took a good 17 hours before it was mostly dry with just a few spots still damp. Plus, she never said a thing about the fact that pet hair removal needed to be on a special setting and probably a special brush. Although we discussed the cat at length. No wonder I did not see much pet hair in the demo discs. I do not regret buying the thing but I do regret letting them take my Bissell Pro 2X carpet shampooer.
It has a suction feature that sucks up most of the water and a heating element that helps to dry the rug. I saw the suction of the water in action for the Kirby as she was shampooing but it definitely did not soak up close to the amount she put on that floor. I bought not knowing the necessity to sweep at higher level settings to get the cat hair up. Hope it works. At least my old Rainbow definitely picked the cat hair up even if it was not doing the deep cleaning so emphasized in the demo.

It was a Friday night, 8:30 and already dark. I was finishing up washing my truck, when I agreed to let Joe ("Here's my California I.D.and social security card for you to hold, my proof to you that I can be trusted) come into my house and demonstrate Kirby's new 1.5 hp vacuum. Yes, I was impressed, with what he showed me. But did he finish, no. He was "waaay over the customary time limit, one should spend in a customer's house." So needless to say, his "boss" needed to come in to get started on the paperwork. Boss shows up, has me fill out paperwork for a credit check... I said "Save yourself some time, I have no credit, no bank account, and no job. They aren't gonna go for it." "Let us try, Kirby does their own financing, and they might do it. We are affiliated with Warren Buffet...etc."
Quite honestly the "boss" was hardly a "closer", he did and said what Joe the salesman told him to do... I don't even think he had someone on the phone. (It was almost 11:00) Another guy also shows up to use the bathroom and help clean things up, 'cause at this point it's pretty obvious my credit will be declined. So I have 3 guys in 3 different places in my house... (cause they roll as a team, keeps em motivated...). Anyway, they declined my credit. But, if I could give them $500.00 tonight as a down payment, that would show good faith...
I said, "I'm not giving you anything tonight. Come back in a couple weeks, like I initially said, I'll have some money, we'll go from there." "Joe won't get his commission and credit for this sale if you don't sign tonight." Joe says, "They still may approve you, they use numerous financial lenders. But, if you insist on 2 weeks, we will hold your paperwork, and your vacuum for you in our warehouse and wait for your call. Better yet, I will call you in a week to just touch base. Here is my personal cell number if you have any concerns."
I did. I didn't want my information floating around. They told me to black out my social security number, then they made a big production of sealing it in an envelope, to be opened when I'm able to proceed in a couple weeks. In hindsight, I was a complete idiot from the get go. I was impressed with the vacuum, all three guys were likable, and non threatening, but I can't help but feel bad things are gonna come from this. I will send the cancellation notice to them tomorrow, for all that's worth... My information has already been compromised... Unable to sleep, I figured I would research them... HA!
I have never allowed someone into my house nor given anyone my personal information before. I seriously liked the product! I already have a Kirby (secondhand but like new) Joe was gonna take it as a trade in, and knock $1500.00 off the price of my new one, but my neighbor came over to check on me, and told Joe he used to sell Kirbys himself briefly, and knows that he can still sell me one for "cost" $1600.00, let me keep my other one, and still make a profit. So Joe agreed. I couldn't pass it up. I was getting half off! I'm afraid what I was really getting is screwed.

The vacuum started out at $2000, down to $1350, and then down to $850 if I wrote out a check. What bothers me also is that they were going to sell me the used vacuum they used in my house and who knows how many other houses for that much money instead of a brand new machine. At first I was not angry, but after thinking about it, it was a rotten thing for them to do. Oh - and they said the floor after shampooing would dry in about an hour, it actually took over 8 hours. The carpet was soaking wet in places. I don't think the guy knew how to use the machine properly. Plus, the shampoo they used stunk so bad it gave me headaches that I could not sleep. Will I be required to knock on residential doors, if so I have I real problem with that and cannot accept the job if be the case. You are telling me you are going to have three preset apts. already set up for me daily. And the canvassers will be the the neighbor trying to get us a fourth, so sometimes we might have to work past 7:00. I can handle that. I asked what time will the apts be set up generally, I was told 10 am, 2 pm and 4 pm and then an occasional fourth when we could catch people home. But not to worry they would all be pre-qualified and it would only be good quality housings. After the pricing was a three way split. A third to me the dealer, a tip to the canvasser, a third to the mgr who closes. None of this is true. - All lies!!
The mgr low balls the price so much there is no commission left $$ coming my way when I did meet the 3 min sales per week. But of course as far as I know the distributor gets his money, the canvassers get their money but I get nothing of it - my time wasted where I could actually be useful, doing something. Even if it was not bring in money. Working from 8:38 or 9:00 am until 11:00 pm Mon to Sat is unreasonable. But it is acceptable because weaver call contractors. Even though as contractors we are required to be at the daily meetings and ride in the broken down physically unsafe vans. -Independent.

My grandmother and mother have both purchased Kirby Vacuum cleaners and they absolutely love them! I was present for both of their demonstrations and the gentleman that did the demonstration for my grandmother was very kind and considerate of our time. It only took him 5 minutes to impress us! Although expensive, they offer a very affordable payment plan. The vacuum itself performs way better than any other vacuum we've had in the past. If you like your house clean and don't want to buy new carpet you'll save money in the long run!

Buying Kirby is the worse buy I have ever made. First, I was forced to buy it, the lady won't leave my house and it was past 9 pm. The machine is too expensive, heavy, complicated to use all the attachments. They make it look easy, but when you use it couple of times, you find out is not what you want. You cannot even return it because it will ruin your credit. Katie ** even took my new vacuum.

A young women knocked on my door telling me she was from a cleaning company just starting out looking for new clients. Saying they would like to clean one room of carpet for free in hopes I'll like their services. My carpet was needing a shampoo so I after a few question I said ok. She was on her cell instantly, telling someone I wanted a cleaning. Instantly 2 men were right there at my door. "Now?" I asked. My gut told me to not let them in but they rushed pass me into my home with a box. I was not understanding at first, then realized I was scammed. They are salesmen. Still my gut was telling me to ask them to leave, everything seemed to move so quickly at this point.
After 3 1/2 hours it was 9 pm I told them I had to go to bed as I get up early in the morning. Another man came in, asked if I'd like a vac and wrote down a price, told me I could make payments blah blah blah.. I sign!!! Next day I realized I made a big mistake, sent them my cancellation form. They get it the next day, which was within the 3 days required on the contract. I get a call from the second man that come in my home. He was VERY RUDE and angry over the phone, saying "It's a pain in my ass to pick it up, you'll have to mail it to me." He says he's in RI. I am in Mass. "The contract says you must pick it up with 10 days of cancellation," I say. After some more nasty words, he said "I'll pick it up when I feel like it." No time, no agreement when he’ll do so....
Not trusting he’ll do the right thing, I spent a lot of time googling and phone calls trying to track down answers about this. GOT nowhere, NO one oversees the distributor!!! NO ONE!!! All I got was what was told to me by 1 women in the Kirby company main office. The salesman MUST by law cancel my order. If I have any other issues to call her back and they will try to help me sort it out. NEVER ever thought this would happen to me! I am always (till now) very good at not buying stuff in this way. They are VERY good at what they do.

My mom is 68 yrs old and on a fixed income. She suffers from myasthenia gravis and has to buy expensive medication for it in addition to her other health issues. She was swindled by a young Kirby salesman into purchasing a $3000+ vacuum cleaner. I visited her a about a week after the purchase and was shocked to find out someone had come into her home and taken advantage of her. I called the number on the contract and was told it was too late to cancel it. I then called and asked them to come and pick it up because she could not afford it and they in turn mailed her a payment book. My mom is not going to do without her medication because some young man told her he had not eaten in a week and she felt sorry for him and fell prey to unscrupulous practices. I am notifying the Better Business Bureau also because elderly people need to be protected from such people.

Feel I was so taken by them. First they said they wanted to clean carpet in one room. I had no idea this would lead to a sales pitch for a vacuum cleaner. The cleaner is expensive, awkward, heavy to use. The demonstration showed it as so easy and quick. You find out later you need to view a CD read a book to be able to use it. Who has time for that? Next a belt broke. When I was called I was told there was an extra belt enclosed because this happened frequently. So do I need a supply of belts? Neither I or my husband has been able to figure out how to get it on. He was told just to use it without the belt that it would still work. If I could get half what I paid for it I would be happy. This is really terrible.

A sleazy little rep from Kirby knocked on my door today. I felt a little sorry for her because her sales pitch was so pathetic. So after explaining that I absolutely had no interest in a stupid vacuum cleaner, she said that she gets points for doing any kind of free cleaning, and asked if I would let her vacuum my entrance way mat so that she could earn points for some stupid trip. Being the nice person I am (never again!), I said fine. But instead some other nitwit shows up with a vacuum cleaner in a box and asks if he can set it up in my living room. They are offering free cleanings and don't have a vacuum cleaner assembled? What a bunch of idiots.
When I asked him to leave, he said that he first had to call his boss. I would not allow him to call his boss from inside my house and explained to him that I am the boss of my house and to get out or I will help him out. He seemed shocked, but these are some of the dumbest people I have encountered. And, frankly, if you have to sell anything door to door, your product sucks. Just based on the fact that some sleazy ** weaseled his way into my home and then refused to leave is about all I need to know about this lousy company.

We bought a Kirby vacuum from a seller that came to our house. We bought it, even though it is super expensive. I did not want to but my husband was sold on it. Now the belts break all the time, and when I vacuum it smells like it's burning. It is heavy and awkward. I exchanged my Oreck for this and I am very sorry I did. I now use my small Oreck for everything even though it is a pain. As soon as I can buy another vacuum and abandon my Kirby at a Kirby store.

Original Review: Aug. 31, 2015
First I got a phone call from the call center offering me a free shampooing of my 4 rooms with carpet, and for letting them come do this service I would receive a free roadside kit. I declined this service but they said I still qualified for the free gift and could they have the address so they could come by and give it to me in person (I should've known something was up). So I gave them the address and gave a time that would work for me to bring it to me. The day they were to bring it out to me I get another phone call verifying my address so I verify it and get told they want to do a product demo of a vacuum so I was "ok cool, sure whatever." So the guy calls for directions on how to get to my house (which is ok, I live in a rural area) so I give him directions, he does his demo which he did a good job on.
So we agreed to buy it. My wife and grandma do the contract and all, the sales guy had to keep calling his boss for help on it from my wife's phone because his didn't have service. My brother-in-law calls after learning we getting a Kirby and asks how much we paying while the guy was here we told him and he said that we were getting ripped off because he got his for 1300 and some change. So he talks to the guy on the phone and tells him how much he paid and that we were being ripped off. So at this point the guy calls his boss again and tells him we feel we are being ripped off. So he proceeds to tell me and my wife that his boss will be out in be 20 mins to talk to us so we are like "ok." So the sales guy leaves promising his boss will be out in 20 mins to talk to us. He took my damn handle to my vacuum so we can't use the canister feature. Before he leaves he gives me another freebie.
So me and my wife wait and wait for his boss who never shows up. So my wife calls his boss, the salesman used her phone to call his boss for the contract, and asks where he is and what time he will be here the boss says he isn't coming out here at 9:30 at night and his kid is in bed. So my wife tells him that she doesn't want the vacuum at the 2,500 price tag and to come get it. He said he will send someone out to get it. So the next day I called their main number so I can properly cancel my contract, so they transfer me to their sales department. So I tell the guy I'm canceling the contract for it being too expensive and can't afford it and being unhappy with the way the sales guy did us. Well turns out the guy I'm telling this to is the sales guy boss and knew exactly who we are and what sale I'm talking about.
So I go through telling him I want to cancel it. He tells me he can as low as 1,600 at 62 a month which my wife and grandma are happy with. So I tell him we like the price and he tells me since it's Saturday he can't come out but he can come out this coming week to do a new contract. But Monday is my third day of having this thing and after 3 days I can't get out the current contract with this crappy price. So now I don't know what to do because we were told a new lower price we like but can't get someone out til after our 3 days are up and we don't want and can't afford this price as it is now. Since I did call and say I want to cancel it am I safe?

This is the worst vacuum ever. We got conned into keeping it after I took it back to the Kirby people. I called the finance company to cancel the finance for the vacuum and I told them that I didn't want the vacuum anymore and they turned around and called the so-called owner of Kirby and I told Dontay what was going on and how the people that I took vacuum to were rude to me and threatens to call the cops on me for no reason. Dontay conned me into keeping the vacuum after I told him that I didn't want it anymore by telling me that he is going to bring me more stuff for the vacuum and he hasn't brought it to me and this is going on 3 months of having this piece of crap of a vacuum.
When I called Dontay about the stuff that he was supposed to bring me he told me that he couldn't do anything about it because he was out of state and when I asked him when he is going to be back to bring the stuff to me he said a couple days. Well haven't seen it to this day and when I call him and all he does is send me to his voicemail so that way he don't have to talk to me about the vacuum. All I want to do is throw this vacuum away, it is a piece of crap. It don't vacuum very well and we have to go the same spot like 2 times for it to pick up the stuff on the floor and when we clean it still don't want to work right after it gets clean. We have had nothing but problems with this vacuum since we got it.

So today I had my first Kirby vacuum experience, complete with sales pitch and push. It all started out when a man and woman walked up my driveway. While I was busy building something with my power tools, the woman did most of the talking, and gave this vibe that they were college student, and they were in a contest, and branching out to the community and wanted to show me a demo of their product. She made it should like it was some kind of "cleaning shampoo". I told her my house was in no shape for company. I have just returned from vacation. The roommates had the house completely... unlivable, and I was outside making a closet rack so we could hang all of our laundry which was everywhere in the living room.
The girl was very friendly and told me how they have just come from a neighbor’s house, who was a hoarder, and they have officially seen it all, and that they LOVE dirty houses. And then she asked if they could just take a look, and just "really quickly" do a cushion on my couch or a rug. Pushing her way to my door I showed her my horrible house. She said "Yup this is perfect, so we will be right back." Without "cleaning supplies". I told her I was busy and had to get this closet project finished while it was still light outside. She said that was fine, they will just do their thing while I did mine. 15 mins later a white van pulls up.
I then tell them, if this involves trying to sell me something, it's not that I don't want it's the fact that my husband was going on a month of being unemployed, which was the truth, and I myself was on a medical leave from work and money was very tight, but I told them that I understood if they didn't want to waste their time, because time is money. The lady made a joke of "Oh your husband is unemployed? Well never mind then." and then she laughed and said "We're not like that." So they get out the vacuum, and the girl hops in the van and leaves the boy there. My husband was not home. He was out of state. I have an almost 2 year old and thankfully had two guy roommates present. Asked one of them to sit on the couch and watch the guy and make sure he didn't steal anything, and I went back outside.
The "boss" as the boy called him, showed up to bring the kid something. He was very polite, asked what I was building, and asked what I did for work and what my husband used to do, trying to show interest in me and before he left he said "Okay well he may pull you aside 2-3 times and show you some techniques or attachments. So keep that in mind, we will come by later." This kid wanted me to babysit him, and vacuum my own rug. They showed up at 7:30 pm. I haven't made dinner. My two year old was trying to play with all the attachments, in the "dirt samples" that he has everywhere. My kid was crying. It was bedtime around 9-9:30. The man was still running the vacuum, so my kid couldn't sleep. It was NOT working and he just pretended it was flowing well. The "Boss" showed up a few times to talk about my financial situation, ask what I could afford for payments.
I told him I was a financial advisor, and nothing goes on credit, only cash, and I don't have $2,000 in the bank to buy a vacuum. I also don't have $50-65 a month for payments, interest free for 6 months or not. He also tried to use the vacuum as a way of "insuring" or taking care of the appliances and other things within the home that I wouldn't have to replace if I maintained them with the vacuum, like mattresses, carpet, couches. He also for some reason asked about appliances and electronics in the home. It made me feel very uncomfortable with him asking about my valuables. Then he left. So I finally started cleaning up his mess, told him he needed to go, that I was trying to shut the house down for the night. My roommates work graveyard and had to leave for work soon.
After more payment pushing and sales pitching and BEGGING to show me the shampooing part. I told him "My answer will not change. It is no, and for good reasons. But if you want me to tell your boss that you did show me the shampooing feature I will do that for you. 2 and 1/2 hours he left at 10 pm. My roommates were enjoying humoring themselves. One had my unconcealed 19-11 45 on his hip, the other roommate went through the living room to smoke on the front porch and felt the need to carry his 12 gauge shotgun with him while he smoked. The kid was very uncomfortable. Noticed the guns that started to come out of the rooms, and I think that helped speed up the process. Tonight all the doors and windows are locked. One roommate is sleeping on the couch the other with his shotgun, and me with my German Shepherd and 45 on the dresser.
They asked way too many personal questions that were not relevant to the vacuum. It was very shady, and I know sales. I'm a product and service rep at a large financial institution, so a financial advisor, a sales rep. I know the game they were playing, but they didn't play it right and it came across very misleading, unprofessional and faulty. I was impressed with the vacuum itself, but I would much rather get one on eBay for $325 than brand new with only a 3 year "Limited Warranty", and when I call you on your ** sales pitch and ask why you said "Lifetime" when it clearly says something different right here and your response is "I'm new, and I honestly am not educated enough with that, to answer your question." And after 2 and 1/2 hours you have vacuumed all 4x6 foot rug, and a small section of my bed. I'm done being sold to. Next time I'll either tell them I already have one, or to move it along cause ain't nobody got time for that.

This is by far the worst sale experience I have had in my entire life. I do not recommend this machine to anyone ever. No longer use it after about three months of having it and only using about six times. Within the three weeks of having it had malfunctions over 6 times. Not to mention that when sale rep gave it to us there already problems with the handle, the cord wraps around and it took two week to bring the replacement. He was supposed to be bringing right Back. Needless to say after about three to four weeks of having and barely using I decided to return without success. NEVER AGAIN.

They said they would be right back with their cleaning supplies. We get a knock on the door 10 minutes later and to our surprise it was two men this time. Really confused about who these people were, not to mention, looked a little shady. They came right in and pulled out the Kirby and had a big long speech about everything it could do. I am a young woman and I felt very nervous and would not take my eyes off of the salesman. The other guy finally left and this guy stayed in my apartment to do a demo. I told the guy I'm not going to buy the product but I will politely listen.
They started the price at 3200 and after 3 hours in my apartment, he took it all the way down to 950. I probably would have been more inclined to purchase the product at that price if he handled himself better. Trying to watch the football game and he would not shut up. I finally told him to get out of my apartment after an hour and a half from being there. It took an hour and a half to kick him out!!! I felt extremely uncomfortable with this man. He was asking us if he could have a shot of our alcohol, have a beer, and have a smoke. Very unprofessional and then he gets on the phone with his sister and states, "Oh you know, cleaning houses for free". At that point I was done with him and it took 4 handshakes and goodbyes to get him out. I will never let Kirby in my house ever again and I will slam the door in your face. Two guys showed up at my door telling me they would clean the carpet in one of my rooms for free, just to demonstrate their service so that I could recommend it to family and friends. They then mentioned they were with Kirby, but they assured me that they only wanted to show me the product so that I could remember them in the future if I ever decided to purchase a Kirby.
Fast forward 3 1/2 hours later. Yes, it was almost 11:00 at night when they finally left my house (they started at 7:00). They had made it sound like it would be a quick thing for them to step in and do, so I hadn't eaten dinner yet before they started because I figured it would be a half hour thing and then I would be on my way. (From how they had described it to me they would step in, clean my carpet, I say "hey that's cool, thanks for showing me that" and I'm on way.) I was starving by the time they finally left.
Worst of all, they flat out lied to me about only wanting to show me the vacuum for future reference. They pressured me like crazy to buy it over and over. As good of a vacuum as the Kirby might be I don't know if I could buy one just on the principle that they lied to me to get their foot in my door. I will not buy from liars. I would rather keep the dirt in my carpet and live with it happily.
DO NOT, I repeat DO NOT let them into your house no matter what they tell you at the door. Like another user here said, they also tried to use the guilt tactic on me about the "contest" they could win if they sold enough vacuums. So it went from "we just want to show you it, you don't have to buy one today" to "you must buy one today to help us win this prize in the contest!" THAT is dishonesty.

To be completely honest, I am a new Kirby employee. I've been in sales for five days. I see that the business tactics are independent of the Kirby company. They are sold through independent dealers. If the dealers are doing something shady then it's on them. Yes they are expensive but we do take trade in credit. I sold two in a day and got a refurbished model from the 80s that my boss gave me. Still runs great. I have yet to be paid but all my coworkers seem to be satisfied. As an employee I can't help but think that independent businesses are using the pushy and shady tactics. Me personally, I wouldn't sell anything that was crap. I apologize for the amateurs in the past but I'm here to show a superior product.

My sale rep was fine not too pushy. I vacuumed my house right before the Demo and regularly clean my house and the Kirby Avalir picked up so much dirt and the shampoo was not as harsh as Stanley steamer. Not the wet smell. Most of the reviews are bad because of salesman not the product. Lifetime Warranty payment plan 6 month. $1400. We spend about $300 a year for carpet clean. Don't have to worry about that and I like to work, so if someone need their carpet cleaned I can do it half the price. But the DIRT from my floors and bedding was extreme. And my kids have allergies. We will see if this helps.

Getting roped into this overpriced product was one thing, with monthly payments that equal a budget car. But the worst part of all is trying to get someone at customer service to respond to your need for technical assistance so that you can use one of the features on this beast of a machine in order to MAYBE make its value equal its price tag.
You can't get a hold of the local team that sold it to you, nor can you get a hold of anyone at the 1-800 number, especially if you live on the west coast and work during the day and their hours are 5pm EST. Nor do they respond to emails. Their YouTube videos suck, in which they use all this verbiage that is unique to the Kirby itself and is hard for the user to follow. Buying this Kirby vacuum is literally the worst purchase I think I have ever made. I so regret it. Even pulling it out and using it for regular vacuums isn't even worth it, as it truly is a beast of a machine to operate and using any of the attachments is so complicated that you lose all interest and motivation to make it work at even just the thought of it.

Made it sound like they were a carpet cleaning company, which I was interested to find sooner or later because I have 3 bedrooms with carpet that needed to be clean. Then she ran off saying she'll be right back. I got 2 guys instead at my door half hour later. I didn't want to let them in, but they let themselves in, completely ignoring my "What? Wait!" I am a single mom with a 4-year old daughter and do not allow a stranger man in my house because that's not safe and it's not how I want to raise my daughter. But I didn't have much of a choice. In seconds they had a vacuum with many parts spread on my floor and a guy talking. Started whining that this was last day for a contest he wants to win, how he is a top seller and wanted to stay on top of the list... I was his last hope. Sick of saying no to him, I finally agreed to checking it out and returning it in 3 days if it wasn't for me. I'm a software engineer working from home when two kids knocked and solicited a free carpet cleaning. I've heard this pitch before and knew they were from Kirby. However I was very polite when the kids mentioned they were in a contest to win a trip to Hawaii and a scholarship, and wished them the best of luck. I explained I work from home and don't have time for a demonstration, but to be nice I said if they finish with the entire complex and no one wants a demo, to come back and I might not be busy. They admitted they started on my side of the townhome complex and had the entire complex left to check (there are around 100 units). About 10 minutes later they came back and said they'd finished the entire complex (all 100 doors had been knocked on (maybe one of the kids had a space-time manipulation device?), only this time they had two adults in business attire holding a Kirby vacuum box.
I advised that I'm very busy with work, but the oldest looking adult (they called him their boss) insisted that I'd scheduled a cleaning and they wanted to demo the product. At this point, they were already starting to come inside and asking what area I wanted cleaned, so again because I am nice, I humored them, thinking it might not be a long demo. The boss was affable and liked my geeky collectibles in the house, but I made it very clear I was on a time crunch and wasn't interested in buying so they had to be fast. 3 hours later, the salesman (the other adult that had shown up) was winding down his pitch. He was a very gregarious and seemingly intelligent man, very humorous and with a good handshake, but intermittently "the boss" would show up at the door and try to push a payment plan on me for the item.
I declined multiple times and eventually had to cite that it was a decision I would have to make with my significant other, who was working, and that she would flat out refuse. He wanted me to buy the item anyway and apologize later, but there is no way I'm going to spend $3400 on an appliance with a 7 year payment plan, no matter how low you bring the price. In the end, he tried to knock the price from 3K+ down to $900 with 60/mo payments, removed the couple hundred dollar deposit amount, and then said he would bring the price down if I would "trade" items from my house to him, like my old vacuum and even a painting on the wall he liked (I think it was a joke but I can't be sure). He did not take no for an answer, and I wish I had been more aggressive, but again I was trying to be polite (though it was hard because at this point, 3 hours I didn't have had been wasted).
He even insisted I text message my significant other at work (several times even after I said no), who just started a new job, and ask for permission to buy the vacuum. I ended up using a web-based text service to text myself with a fake response, just to get them to go away. Just because someone is being nice doesn't mean you should keep pushing your product on them... for shame! Pack up and leave with dignity, especially if it was made clear I would not buy anything, no matter how effective the demonstration might be. The experience left me exhausted and frustrated, although I did like the vacuum (no matter how great it is though, it's not worth the price of a used car), and I did like the salesman and his "apprentice", the kid who first knocked on my door who stayed for the whole demo.
I do not like that a product can be marked down by 74% and still be considered a legitimate business deal (this is just extremely shady), as is not being able to contact these salesman or Kirby to buy at a later date (they insist you buy it now and try to use sympathy and guilt to trick you into making a spontaneous decision, a very ancient and predatory sales tactic). During the demo, I mentioned a few times I really needed to get back to work, and each time the salesman had to call "the boss", explain I didn't have time, and then mentioned it wouldn't be too much longer. Next time, I will just smile, wish them luck, and slam the door in their faces. Pushy, manipulative tactics and door to door selling in the internet age, combined with taking advantage of others politeness add up to just a dismal experience and a waste of an afternoon.

Hello. I placed an order for vacuum bags on July 31, 2015. Today is Aug 12, 2015 and I have yet to receive my order. I received a tracking number that gives me no information whatsoever about my order. I sent an email to Art ** who said he would look into it. It has been three days and I have not heard anything. The money was deducted from our account right away. The receipt states it's been shipped but we have not received anything at all.

This salesman knocks at our door 1 year ago - says he just wants to demo the Kirby to get experience doing demos. So fool that I was I let him in. This was on a Friday afternoon, he showed me many thing except how to use the hand tools. He said I had three business days to return if I was not happy. So over the weekend I tried using the cleaning tools, found it was very difficult to then replace the vacuum head. I called on Monday - told them I was not satisfied, was told my salesman would call me back, no return call. I called on Tuesday to talk to a supervisor. He informed me my three days were up on Monday. I informed him it was bought on a Friday afternoon, traditional business days mean Monday through Friday. He informed me I was wrong and too late to get my old vacuum back as well as return their product.
I told him about getting fleas from his product also after use of salesman demo. He stated I was lying as all their products sold are out of the box brand new. I tried couple of other times to call. My call was not answered nor was I ever sent the video promised as to how to use this overpriced machine. NO ONE has ever helped me resolve any issues. I hate this machine - can't wait to get out from under these payments so I can sell it to some other sucker at a yard sale. Kirby does not care about the person buying their product just the bottom line MONEY as in profit.

l have been a customer of Kirby for over 20 yrs. l have always been happy with the service till now. They always try to sell you a vacuum when they come to service your vacuum, even if it's only 6 months old. ln January this year the service man came into my house telling me he was giving me a brand new vacuum cleaner for nothing -- "WE ARE GIVING IT TO YOU. We are not allowed to sell them in the UK because of EEC rules because we can't sell 900 watt, only up to 500 watt." I said, "Nobody gives anything away." "It's because you have been with us over 20 yrs. You're getting it free." 3rd lie -- "As you know, you owe over 36 months on your old vacuum, so all we will do is add a small amount to your monthly payments, i.e. a couple of £ and it's yours."
So as they say there's no fool like an old fool I agreed. Then you speak to someone in the office and they tell you the same thing -- they are adding a small amount to your payments. "You had over 36 payment left on your old vacuum to pay." - lie 4 . As it turns out, I had no payments left to pay on my old vacuum as I had paid for 48 months. So all I was doing was buying a new vacuum for the price of £1,900,00.
I am 62. The vacuum I had was working perfect. Why would I want another one? I have been in touch with Liverpool and all they say is, "You signed for it." How can people you let into your homes treat you like this? Why should they try each time they do a service try and sell you a new vacuum when you pay for a service plan, not a sales rep to call. I DO NOT WANT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT THEY SAID WAS FREE. Why should I? So I am seeking advice.

We had a salesman knock on our door and say he wanted to show us a carpet cleaning machine and so we took a look. It was a Kirby and he was a professional looking guy, seemed educated, and he was very funny. He vacuumed our carpet with our Dyson then he re-vacuumed with his Kirby and the dirt he pulled out was astounding! He showed us all the tools and he also cleaned our mattress which we couldn't believe was so dirty and it's only a couple of years old! Anyway, he shampooed the carpet and we're completely sold. The unit is really expensive but worth it. We always check Consumer Affairs before we buy and the reviews here are mostly bad, but we had a good feeling so we bought and we are completely satisfied, so the salesman asked us to post our review and we are very happy to do so.

Kirby handled the issue as supposed to. They contacted us and found our message sent to them on the refund period. The refund was received and we are satisfied with their customer service.

Bought a vacuum from one of their salesman and got completely SCAMMED by him. After 2 days with the vacuum I wanted to return it and he said he would come next week so that we could discuss the issue. He never came nor called back and after MANY attempts trying to reach him, he said we couldn't return it anymore because it was already past the 3-day period (even though we talked on the 2nd day and I say I didn't want the vacuum anymore). Now I'm stuck with a product I do not want and that is absolutely overpriced. NEVER buy anything from their distributors. They will try to trick you because they care 100% about their profits and 0% about your satisfaction. Watch out all of you living in the Orange County in California. The salesman and his wife are 2-faced and will (because it happened to me) avoid your calls and hang up (it happened too) on you if necessary.

After a knock on our front door about 7:00 PM my husband answered the door and salesman began his pitch. He stated he was demonstrating Kirby Vacuum Cleaners and came in and started his demo. He claims he was in competition for a Cleveland football trip. We told him we didn't have money for his product and he continued with the demo. The house had been cleaned within a few days and his product did a great job. But after being here until 10:00 we finally said we needed to go to bed. Salesman not very professional saying he had served time and even smoked pot. We did not buy the vacuum.

My wife allowed a salesperson to do a cleaning demo recently then convinced her/us to buy one. Starting price was $2500; then lowered to $1600. Feeling the remorse of already having an older Kirby plus a Rainbow units we cancel the deal. The independent dealer offered to lower the price by phone to approx. $950 if we keep it. Answer was still no; but we are still awaiting for our refund a month after the cancellation submittal. Lowering the original price from $2500 to $950 sounds very dishonest.

Well reading the reviews below, I think Kirby should really probably just get better people to sell their products or just sell it in a store. Thankfully, the young man my family dealt with was extremely pleasant and he didn't push anything on us. He chilled with us and cleaned our carpets over time. It's 100+ here in AZ and we were pretty bored. Even at the end of things, he still didn't push the products. He looked at my vehicles which I keep immaculate since they're sports cars and noted that I had a very nice carpet shampooer for the vehicles and my home already and that's where the challenge started.
He the driver's side carpet on my 350z that I had just painstakingly cleaned with the Kirby and after that I was sold. The damn thing had that carpet feeling new. I don't know if it's the shampooer or the cleaners they use but it works. Even then, he still didn't push anything. We just went on to clean more things and the more we worked, the more myself and my family were impressed. I do automotive detailing on the side so I was willing to pay for a good product so when he dropped the $1000 price tag on me for the whole system, I just took it. It's pricey yes, but my Dyson was $500 and could only shampoo. This damn thing could vacuum, shampoo, and spray degreaser if I needed it to.
I'm used to using Dyson and Rug Doctors which work nice but not nearly as well as my Kirby has. I'm only four weeks into ownership and I have redone over everything I did with my Dyson with great results. Now I've heard some people say they're hard to put together and I agree. At first, the manual was daunting. I actually let it sit for a few hours just because it was so daunting but after I do it for a few times, you can put together whatever you need in a matter of seconds.
Now for those of you that have had a bad experience, I'd just offer some advice. If they push their way in, be firm and shove them out. I at first told this guy to just leave and he asked if it wasn't a good time and I said it wasn't. He asked to come back later to which I said sure and then left immediately and came back a few days later and things were a lot better. He was well trained. I never felt forced nor did he ever mention winning a trip or anything though when he left he did leave us a kind note thanking us for helping him get a trip to New Orleans or something like that.
My only complaints with the Kirby is that there is no steam cleaning attachment or mode. I've really love that since then I could get rid of one more appliance. Also I wish the tank was bigger. My house is 6500sq ft with more than half of that being carpet. I got the hardfloor attachment also but the tank size is pathetic for cleaning rooms in a house this size. I usually go through three tanks cleaning ONE room in the house. Besides those small things, I'm extremely happy with the product and the work it does. Now I just have to resist the urge to drive my vehicles barefoot.

Recently a man came to my home to sell a Kirby vacuum. He spent about 4 hours showing us all the features the product had. After being friendly we finally gave in and signed the contract. Later on the next day we regret buying the product so we canceled. He came by our home and was very rude. He kept using bad language in front of my 5 year old son. As he was cleaning up he noticed some scratches, which I was pretty sure I had not done. He kept calling me a liar and said I had done those scratches. I was almost convinced it was used before because when he gave me that vacuum the box was already open. Please be careful!

I bought a Kirby Heritage II Vacuum in 1986 (It is now 2015) and it is heavily used in my house and is by far the favorite and the most expensive of all the vacuums I have ever owned. The problem is the way they are marketed (basically sold door to door). So you get a bunch of hype (Sometimes lies... Yes salesman do lie.) and more useless attachments are pushed on you as a package than you will ever use. Eventually I threw away all the stupid attachments (including the supposed mattress cleaner) and just use it as a floor vacuum. In hindsight I should have probably kept the hose attachment and end pieces. Great vacuum but outdated sales methodology that encourages customer dissatisfaction.

A lady knocked on the door saying they had a carpet cleaner and they'd clean my stairs and hallway just for my review. We scheduled a time. She came back with a guy in a dress shirt and tie. He was to demonstrate it to me. She left, and he stayed and set up the machine. He showed and explained each step of the way. He vacuum what I thought was a clean carpet, only to show me dozens of filter piece with gross dirt and fuzz. Spread baking soda on my carpet and rubbed it in. Then used my Dyson to vacuum it up, counting 100 passes over it. Looked clean to me at fifty. Then he used the Kirby and I was shocked at how much more it picked up! It does and great job! It can do everything, even can use it as a paint sprayer or unclog drains. The guy vacuumed and shampooed my stairs and hallway cleaner than I've ever seen.
The manager came back and checked all the work out. Forget to mention he vacuumed part of my mattress and I was grossed out from all the dead skin he picked up, the mattress is only a year old. Also did my sofa and loveseat, which is also a year old from Pottery Barn that still looked new. You should've seen the dirty filters! They offered me a price of $1800, but came down to $900 with my old Dyson. They were all nice and not pushy one bit. I would've bought one, but I just can't do it at this time. My neighbor got one and I'm so jealous! Very nice machine with lots of features. I wouldn't hesitate letting them show you! You will be amazed!

I answered the door at 2:40 and a man said he was trying to extend his business of carpet cleaning to our area and that he would dry clean one of my rooms of carpet for free and just asked for word of mouth recommendations in return. He left and came back 15 minutes later with another guy and he brought a vacuum in and started to show my Mom and I each and every part, accessory, etc. Well, two hours went by and we were certainly impressed with the dirt that was picked up from the floors and my couch. My husband walked in and watched for a few minutes (he even tried it) then he asked the price. We both knew we were never going to pay $2400 for a vacuum cleaner, so my husband did not want to waste any more of his (or our) time.
The demonstrator wanted to go to our bedroom and clean our mattress, to which we both said that was unnecessary. The demonstrator said he "had to" and my husband asked him to leave. The demonstrator said he would have to call to get picked up and that he would be assembling the parts to the vacuum while we waited. It took about 15 minutes for the other guy to show up and thankfully they left, but what a waste of an afternoon that I wasn't expecting. I don't know how they sell 50 - 60,000 of those a month at that price point.

I was sceptical with the price of this vacuum but 16 years later it has paid for itself twice over. Easy maintenance and runs like new still, with 2 cats and 2 dogs. Would recommend to anyone who appreciates a clean house.

I bought my Kirby in 2012 because I felt guilty and obligated when my husband let the Kirby salesmen in our home. They did their demonstration then we went over the price. They first said 3500. I said "No thank you. Have a nice day," then it dropped down to 1700. Then they started to guilt us into buying it. I asked what is the return policy. He said only within 24 hrs and then he stated the only reason people want to return it is because they do not use it or take the time to figure it out. So many red flags but I bought it. I used it - didn't like it. Thought maybe I'm using it wrong. Watched the video demo that came with it. Read the booklet that came with it. Months went by I continued to use it and hated it every time I used the Kirby vacuum. It is very very heavy, it doesn't even pick up anything off of the floor. I have never been so displeased with a product in my life. Kirby please stop making vacuums - you're just not good at it.

I live in a very rural area and very few people come to our house unannounced. This afternoon a black van pulls up our driveway and a man steps out and hands me a bottle of laundry detergent. Says they're opening a new store in town. Then he says "Have you heard about Alerea?" And has this little box in his arm. I said "No but I'm really busy." He said it'll take just a second can I come inside out of the heat. Silly me thinks he's just going to stand right inside the doorway. Nope he walks straight in my house. My kids are freaking out because they aren't used to strangers just appearing out of nowhere. So I say again, "This isn't a good time." and I'm completely ignored and he goes on to tell me about this girl trying to win a trip to Vegas and she's just a few away from a free trip. And then the girl appears and starts opening boxes and pulling stuff out everywhere And I'm in shock. I can't believe this is happening.
I tell her I'm not buying anything today and not to bother but she insisted on cleaning my floors. So I completely ignored her for the next 3 hours. She would show me these dirt pads and I would pretend she didn't exist But she kept on. Then had the audacity to ask me what I thought of the product. I said she was being ridiculous that I had repeatedly asked her to leave and she refused or ignored me and I thought she was being rude and needed to leave. She slowly packed up her crap. And since she couldn't get a phone signal since we live out in the country I had to let her use my landline to get her ride to come back to pick her up. When they finally showed up (or so I thought) it was "a supervisor" who wanted to offer me a better deal since I was so unhappy with "the performance of her show." I said I never asked for a show that I kept asking her to leave and she kept saying she needed to finish.
And then he tried to guilt me about this trip and I said told them I didn't care if the girl went to Vegas or not and not to try that with me. I kept saying I wasn't buying anything and I wanted them out but they just wouldn't. They finally went outside where they had to wait almost 30 minutes for their van to come back. It was absolutely insane. I refuse to ever spend that kind of money on a vacuum. For $1000 I can pay someone to come clean my house weekly for a year. They even had the gall to ask for a post dated check. And their flyer didn't have Kirby on it anywhere. It was shady the way they went about it.

I answered a knock at the door around 4 pm and a courteous young man had a "voucher" and said they were representing a new better vacuum cleaner. I said I would like to know more and he said another young man would bring one inside and show me what it was. First he opened a brand new box and assembled a cleaner which took a while and began a set presentation with flash cards that I found repetitive. I said so and asked him to get on and show me the cleaner in action. He continued his speech. Eventually he vacuumed dust out of my carpet and I was impressed because it has been professionally cleaned very recently.
He continued his repetitive speech. I asked him to hurry up because it was now 5 pm and I had to prepare dinner. He was insistent about accessing my bedroom to demo mattress clean but I refused. This repeated a few times. I refused to let him. He then said he had to "shampoo" demo and I did not mange to stop him setting up the water chamber and spreading shampoo. What an unpleasant smelly (fragrance) and time consuming activity.
I kept asking for him to pack up and leave but he refused. Said he had to do more shampooing. Repeated his long speeches. Messy emptying and cleaning up after shampoo. Finally chased him out the door after more than 2 hours. Only managed it not to be longer by repeatedly asking him to leave and refusing all discussion about their pricing and payment methods. So I cannot give feedback about those. Please take care about letting these salesmen in your home.

Yes there are bad sales people. The young men who came to my door did not push their way in. They stood outside and talked to me for a while then asked to step inside and look at my carpets. They were there a lengthy time is my only complaint. They were extremely nice and very respectful. Asked to go into different rooms before they did so. The guys I went through goes through the credit company that is legit. I have gotten calls and mail from this place telling me what I owe and when. Also they never ruined any of my things. Just because someone is selling you something door to door doesn't mean they are a bad person. It's when they don't have good communication skills that make it a little iffy. I love my Kirby. It's heavy if I carry it but not unbearable. My carpets have seriously never looked better. Just because you had a bad sales rep doesn't mean the vacuum is not good. It's well worth the money.

Begged to do the demo, even after I said not buying. 3 mins. later, he is at the top of my stairs, talking to my kids, then spraying cleaners on my living room carpet. Told him I had to leave 7 times. An hour later, he was still in my house arguing with me in front of my children about earning his trip to Vegas. My husband came home from work to get him out of the house, and he argued with my husband. This was the WORST experience in my life, in my home, with my family there. KIRBY NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN!
