We moved to a new house Nov. of 2012 and I went to Lowe's to buy a new refrigerator. The last refrigerator we bought was a Maytag. It was a LEMON and probably had every part replaced because we had the warranty. At Lowe's I thought the Whirlpool Refrigerator would be a good choice. We didn't purchase the warranty, big mistake. After only 4 YEARS, the refrigerator is DEAD, not in working order and would too expensive to fix says our reliable repair serviceman.

We have had this Refrigerator for 3 years in December of 2016. To date, we have had to call a repairman (in February 2016) to replace a circuit board on the back of the refrigerator. That took 4 days, as the company sent the repairman the wrong parts. After that $300 repair, which we got at a discount because, the repairman felt bad that the company actually sent the wrong part. Since then we have taken it apart ourselves for several reasons: The freezer compartment filled up with a layer of ice and started to melt all over the floor, shutting the refrigerator off, (which then forced us to borrow coolers to store the food) until it could be repaired. The drain tube was completely blocked and in order to fix this problem, the tube had to be taken out and modified, according to the Internet videos we then watched. In order to make all of these repairs, the door, the shelves and baskets have to be removed, which is definitely not an easy thing to do at all.
There are so many 'hidden screws and tabs' that must be manipulated with tools and by hand to remove the doors, shelves and trays just to get where you need to be in order to make these repairs. With each repair, the ice maker and water dispenser started having problems, because, each time the refrigerator has to be shut down, it takes hours for it to 're-set' itself. Luckily my husband had the tools necessary, with videos on the Internet to assist us. However, once the first problem started, it was a snowball effect, literally. ALL of these problems have been identified by the manufacturer, however, nothing has been done. VERY POOR DESIGN!

IPod the Gold Series from Whirlpool appliances including the French door with the freezer on the bottom the induction still two ovens and glass top the microwave in the dishwasher does it cost me about $8,900 dubstep problem with it is after two-and-a-half years of using it the freezer stopped working and coming to find out that not only mine but three other ones in my account have the same problem. The sealed system for the freezer had a leak in it. I lost the freezer traffic to Whirlpool. First time around they said, "No problem we'll take care of the part." To take care of Labor. I waited a month. Nothing happened. I called them back. They said I needed to do something else so I waited for it to happen. Nothing happened. Now I call back 8 weeks later without a refrigerator my house come to find out they told me they're not doing nothing.
Well four weeks later now I'm sitting with the stove which cost me quite a bit of money like $2,000 for the induction stove. Now it's burned out the computer components. Control panels are both out. It will cost $800 to repair it. Now we'll pull. Said they will also pay for parts for that but not for the labor so now I'm stuck without a refrigerator and I don't have a stove in my house and they're saying it's okay that these very expensive piece of equipment that I bought and it's okay for them to only last 2 years. Never had a Whirlpool last me less than 10. I think there's something wrong with this picture.

I have called Whirlpool six times to request a replacement for a broken deli drawer in my refrigerator. I was told to throw everything away from the unit, since the whole assembly would come complete in the mail. First call: Ordered the replacement: what came was a glass shelf without a drawer or gliders and hardware. Second call: requested the drawer and remaining parts. Third call: only received the plastic drawer without any means of installing it. Fourth call: received only one side glider, again without hardware to install. Fifth call: requested a supervisor (Kimberly) who took the order for the remaining glider and all hardware. Received second glider and (1) screw when two are needed.
Sixth call: asked rep Brigitte for a supervisor and was not connected. Given the run around and told that the rep spoke with a supervisor for me and would send out a repairman to assemble the unit. I just need the missing screw. I have spent a lot of time on the phone trying to get what I need from Whirlpool and do not have time to wait for a service repairman to come out. I just cannot fathom how that many calls - with me being patient and calm - cannot produce the required items. Horrible.

Whirpool Part #WPW10564292 refrigerator handle - I am a property manager who has 264 units. We have only been open for 1.5 years and have had to replace 30-40 door handles because they crack at the top where screws are. We tried calling Whirlpool Customer Service because obviously this is a defect and she said they looked in the system and didn't see any recall or issues. We also asked for a representative from Whirlpool to stop out so we could show them the issues and she said "we have nobody in the area". We have 9 service requests outstanding that need a new refrigerator handle.
On July 19th, we ordered 3 handles from our distributor and we were told they're on back order until September 6th. When I called at the end of August to make sure we were on schedule with delivery, I was informed they are now on back order until November 5th. I just called our part rep. this morning and now they said the current part number does not exists and gave me the new part # W11026870, and they are on back order until mid or end of November. I am not going to keep quiet about this issue. We have paid $79.89 per handle on a refrigerator that is only a 1 to 2 years old appliance. I am requesting a returned call or email on what you are going to be able to do for us. This is not right or fair to a company that spent a large amount of money to have your appliances in 264 units.

I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator (dbl dr) from Home Depot and received it on August 4th. When I went to clean it I found that blood had spilled from a roast and had accumulated all around the inside of the plastic shelf seal. It was impossible to clean. Water just ran inside the seal and diluted the blood. Then, it leaked all over my kitchen. I had a serviceman here for another problem, sent by Whirlpool. He said he'd try to get them to replace the shelf. Never heard from him again.
I called Whirlpool today. Was told I could buy another shelf. Otherwise, they didn't care. Said it wasn't a functional problem. This is a definite health hazard. Whirlpool used to be wonderful. What happened? I have a dryer, washer, and water tank about to need replacing. Whirlpool won't see a dime from me. (Home Depot, either.) This has become a very bad company. I've contacted the NY Dist. Atty's office. Meanwhile, I have a fridge with a major shelf missing for the holidays and for the foreseeable future.

I have a double door refrigerator with a bottom freezer. It is slightly over 2 years old and has been in use for only 7 months of that time. We just got off the phone with Whirlpool service. They will cover the cost of the control panel and defrost control. The other one I paid to replace was only one month old and it failed again. In the time between that I had to have an Icing kit put in as the Ice maker was causing ice to form inside the back wall of the refrigerator. My first call to Whirlpool was very unsatisfactory. I ended up paying for the part and the service call.
The second call was about the ice-maker and they were aware of the problem and sent me a repair kit for the problem. I still had to pay for repair service. So far I have paid $561.62 for their defective parts and service calls. This time my wife called (while I was taking my frozen foods to my neighbors freezer for the second time) and went through 3 people before being told the part was still under warranty and they will send a new one. When we pushed for proper service we got it. We should never have had to go through all this. We also lost over $300.00 of frozen foods. Never buy a Whirlpool refrigerator!!!

I have a double door bottom freezer refrigerator manufactured by whirlpool. It is less than 2 years old and is an absolute piece of garbage! In less than a year the noise started, then the freezer became a refrigerator and my frozen stuff melted. I had a local technician come in and he fixed it but he indicated that the fix would not likely correct the problem. Sure enough, about 6 months later the same problem started all over again. Nowadays one is never sure where a product is manufactured. However, if Whirlpool had their products made by chimpanzees in the jungle they would be better than the pieces of trash they are now selling!

Our Model # WRF532SMBW refrigerator was purchased on 8/21/14. In the last several months, it has begun having problems with ice build up in the bottom of the freezer, as well as water puddling around the front legs on the floor. I called Whirlpool and they suggested it was our water line, but it does not leak onto the floor daily. They then suggested I have a serviceman come out for a $120.00 service call, plus whatever other expenses that occur. Or, I could just pay $322.00 and that would take care of the service call, parts and an additional one year warranty. We just bought this refrigerator 23 months ago and it cost $1618.92. Now I need to spend $322.00 additionally! What a rip off. Do not purchase a Whirlpool Refrigerator or any of their other appliances. I see this is a common complaint and wish I had read the reviews earlier. The appliance is only 2 years old.

I bought a Whirlpool french door refrigerator, model # ED5LVAXWS about five years ago. I didn't have any problems until last month, on August 25, 2016. The ice dispenser stopped working, and the refrigerator went off. I had to throw out a lot of food. I got a new extended warranty that day, and a serviceman came out the following day, 8/26. It turned out he wasn't a repairman, just someone to diagnosis the problem and order the parts. The part was ordered, and the fridge would be repaired within 5 days, but the part was delayed because of a Hurricane Hermine, which completely understandable.
On 9/8 the repairman arrived, but he realized that the original guy who "diagnosed" the problem was in error. He had ordered a compressor, and what needed to be replaced was the thermostat. As of today, 9/29, the part is still not in -- I was told it's on backorder with no ETA. If I didn't have a mini fridge, I'd be at a complete loss. I called what I thought was Whirlpool to complain about the part taking so long to arrive, but was told they can do nothing. It turns out that a company called AIG U.S. Warranty Division handles Whirlpool's guarantees. I am not a happy camper.

My experience w/ Whirlpool has been disastrous. Whatever you do read the reviews on products before purchasing, do your homework first before purchasing any major appliance. Whirlpool company and its employees are a joke. We are paying consumers and spent our hard earned dollars to support a company that could care less about us and our problems with their products they sell to us which are a piece of crap. I purchased a refrigerator made by Whirlpool from hhgregg in Oct 2015, which took 2 months to get it delivered. The refrigerator is not a year old yet, and cannot get anyone to come out to repair it. I have called Whirlpool numerous times, and so have my husband to come and repair a refrigerator that is less than a year old.
The ice maker stopped working. Then I came home and discovered that the refrigerator is not cool, and everything in the bottom freezer had almost thawed out, and a repairman was supposed to come on August 31, 2016. It has been hot as Hades, during August, Sept, in the high 90s and they had the nerve to call and say they had to order the icemaker and when it came in someone would be out to fix it. I called the company in Maryland to find out what part did they order because a technician hadn't been out at this point to determine what part needed to be replaced. I called Whirlpool, and yes was put on hold for 45 minutes each time, and when I asked to speak to a manager, I was told that the manager said I could call a repairman and they would reimburse me up to $150.00. I replied "That that is not my job. Your job is to send a repairman to fix it."
The name of the company that they gave me and the phone number is located in Maryland, I live in the state of Virginia past Richmond, 3 hours away. Then I was told by the company in Maryland that they don't have technicians to Repair Whirlpool Refrigerators. This is totally unacceptable. It is Sept 19, and since August no one from Whirlpool has been out to fix it, neither have they tried to rectify the problem. Bottom Line, DO NOT BUY A WHIRLPOOL PRODUCT, not from hhgregg, Sears, Home Depot, Lowe's, anywhere because this is how they treat customers. I have an 88 year old Aunt that lives with us that we're responsible for, and she can't even get a glass of ice cold water from a brand new refrigerator that's still under warranty. What's wrong with this picture?

My refrigerator serial number and model number are affected. Because I am outside the one year warranty, Whirlpool refuses to provide service that is required to fix this known issue with my model/serial number. After having to talk to four "supervisors" the only resolution that was given was that they would cover the cost of the 7/16 hex nut ($4.33). Don't get me wrong I do appreciate the offer.
The two "supervisors" that were below her assured me that no one can do anything to assist me further. The attitude of the second and third "supervisor" was pathetic. After over a hour on the phone I was so disappointed that I could not take it further. The cost that we are talking about that I am asking them to pay is $154.28. I am very disappointed. They say they stand by their product. To me standing by your product means that you will fix or replace any known issue. $154.28. I hope it is worth it to you Whirlpool. I purchased a Whirlpool Side by Side Stainless Refrigerator with Water and Ice Dispenser Model #GSF26CYEXY03 and Serial #HR22908384 for $1397 in October 2012 from Orville's Home Appliance (GREAT COMPANY!!!). It had problems from day one. The handle wouldn't even attach on the one door so Orville's graciously went back to their main store and took a handle off their display and put it on ours until the new one was delivered. Then there was a $100 rebate on the fridge. Unfortunately, we misplaced the paperwork and sent the rebate in a little late. We apologized for the delay. The end result was a declined rebate. That was one of the reasons that we chose this particular model in the first place.
Next, both of our doors rusted. After Orville's contacted Whirlpool and went back and forth with them, Whirlpool decided to replace both doors. So Orville's came back to our house and changed them. The guys were baffled about the rust. Thank goodness that it was still under warranty for that. Next problem was the ice dispenser. It makes ice perfectly but dispensing it is another thing. For the last year we have had to take the ice bin out and empty it and start from square one over a dozen times. I contacted Whirlpool just the other day and was told "Sorry. It's out of warranty! We can arrange for you to have the Repair + 1 for a total charge of $356 and then you will have a 1 year operational warranty with that." My thought was "REALLY!!!" While I was on the phone I mentioned the next problem with it.
This problem is with all 3 storage drawers. The fronts of all of them have broken off and now I had to tape them. They all broke within a matter of a few months apart. When I talked to the girl from Whirlpool, I told her that I looked them up and the drawers cost about $54 each. Her answer was "I know and I am sorry ma'am. Unfortunately there isn't anything we can do. That's why I choose my appliances very carefully!" I was shocked to hear that. Just to sum everything up... I am so glad that I spent $1400 to have so many problems and then was given the opportunity (which I declined) to spend another $356 to repair an appliance with icemaker problems and then be expected to spend another $150 to replace plastic drawers. This company is absolutely terrible!

After 4th visit cooled moderately (42 degrees) for 5 weeks. June 24, renewed service contract for 1 year for $112. July 12, stopped cooling! Took 8 days for service person to arrive; 5 days for him to tell Whirlpool that repair needed 5 parts, one of which is no longer made! But they sold me a service contract?? 16 days after initial call, Whirlpool says my case is in "adjudication", which will take 7-10 business days. So I won't know what they are offering till Aug. 8th-11th. Four weeks living out of a cooler. The product is rotten, and the service is worse.
Just recently discovered that all this time when I thought I was talking to Whirlpool, it was actually sub-contracted to AIG. Yes, the AIG that needed a massive government bail-out. Whirlpool customer service refused to talk to me; referred me back to AIG. The only other all-refrigerator (no freezer - I have a 20-year-old Sears freezer in the kitchen that works just fine) I can find is an inch too tall for the space. But I plan to spend for my handyman to raise the cupboard floor above, rather than buy another Whirlpool! Most of May, four weeks in July/Aug without a fridge. Hours on hold. The first service firm they used was incompetent, couldn't find the cause. I wonder how much of my $1,353 purchase cost, and my $112 "service" contract they'll refund?

The manufacturer drop shipped a new piece, after several attempts of "adjusting" the closure, and it still does not work.
I have written Whirlpool and am told they have a new door on order but it will take 6-8 weeks, that was in March. Now when I contact Whirlpool no one ever returns my calls or emails. I purchased this Refrigerator Model #wrb322dmb, bottom freezer, 21cu ft. last year on July 3, 2015. In September I noticed rust spots on the top door. I called Home Depot where I purchased and they directed me to Whirlpool. I did purchase an extended warranty with Home Depot. Whirlpool did replace the top door. Thought that took care of it. Today one year and two weeks out of warranty, I again notice rust on both doors. Called Whirlpool. They said "too bad out of warranty," not considering I had a previous report of this very same issue. So since I am very unsatisfied with this result and the fact that an expensive product is rusting, I decided to share to try to prevent someone getting stuck.
Stainless steel is not supposed to rust which leads me to believe that it is not Stainless steel, but a Stainless Steel finish and not a very good one. So I am stuck with a rusting $1200.00 refrigerator only after one year. I have always purchased Whirlpool, but no more. They lost a 40-year customer. I have always bought American made but no wonder people are not buying American made any longer. TO SUM IT UP WHIRLPOOL STAINLESS STEEL APPLIANCES RUST! DO NOT BUY!

Now, 6 months after the almost-$500 out-of-pocket repair was performed, the refrigerator and freezer compartments are running warm again. The replaced part was a Whirlpool-supplied part, and it was installed by one of their authorized technicians. Of course the part and service are past their warranty periods - by only 10 days this time. Once again, Whirlpool products are (consistently) failing right as their warranty reaches expiration. My husband and I purchased a "Gold Series", French Door refrigerator/freezer in 2012. Everything was fine until our icemaker took a dump a few weeks ago. It had to be replaced. Taking time off from work to meet the repairman with that repair was an inconvenience but it was only magnified when we were told he would call us an hour before the repair, which never happened. We were given the usual 4 to 5 hour window in which we could expect a service call, which is the standard these days. But I had to rush home when he called because we never got that courtesy call an hour before. The repair, as frustrating as the situation was, was made and we thought that would be end of that for a while.
Things were fine until today when I discovered puddles of water on our wood floor as I was leaving for work. While mopping things up with a paper towel and trying to determine what the problem was, I discovered a frozen puddle of ice on the floor of the freezer when I pulled it out. This situation, obviously, was more urgent than the last one we had a few weeks prior so we were hoping for a bit more than the "We'll have someone come out on the 20th" response I was given. It was only after jumping through hoops like a trained monkey at the circus and raising my voice a few times out of frustration, did we get a call from the actual repairman who said he would be out within a couple of hours.
By his own admission, the small rubber seal the repairman replaced somewhere in the refrigerator, was known by the manufacturer to be an inferior part. He told us they are well aware of the problems caused by this inferior seal and that they eventually need to be replaced with one that is of better quality. Apparently, it's cheaper for them to use the inferior one, and they choose to disregard the inconvenience, not to mention the potential damage that could be caused to a person's home because of it.
We have a great many concerns on a great many levels surrounding this product and the way we were treated as paying, extended warranty consumers. This refrigerator was a major purchase for us. We placed our confidence in a company and a product we thought we could trust; not to mention making the assumption that if we paid good money for an extended warranty, a problem like this most recent one would meet with more of an eager attempt at getting us the help we needed without having to become as insistent and frustrated as we were forced to be.
How disappointing to discover that spending over $2,000 on a major purchase like this and then being told we would have to wait 3 to 5 days for a repair. Having to take time off from work, or being told to wait for up to 5 days for any sort of help to replace a small rubber seal, known to be of inferior quality, that was replaced in 10 minutes is absurd. Think twice before spending hard-earned money on this product!! The tragic lesson, however, in all of this is the verbal confirmation by the repairman that just about all manufacturers are the same when it comes to corporations trying to save $$$ and blowing off the inconvenience and expense of their customers.

We got a brand new bottom freezer french door Whirlpool refrigerator in our brand new apartment. Since we moved in last week the temperature control in the refrigerator box has failed three times. The freezer stays cold but the coils are frosted solid and no cooling gets up to the refrigerator box. We turned on moisture control but that didn't help. The user's manual is completely useless and in fact doesn't even match the control panel. The numbers for temperature settings on the instructions don't match the numbers on the panel.
We had to turn off and thaw out the unit completely three times already and this is just the first week! Last night the building maintenance guys came in and sprayed the back panel of the freezer with warm water. He said he talked to the GE tech, who suggested we also increase the freezer temperature settings to 4 and the refrigerator to 44. But this morning the temperature rose again. It sure sounds to me like the daily defrost cycle isn't running at all and nobody wants to consider that possibility. Thaw the unit several times a week is completely ridiculous. I purchased Whirlpool french door refrigerator wrf535smbm00 at the beginning of this year and it has really made my house an unpleasant place to be. My main complaint is that it is very, very loud, and seems to vibrate through the whole house. It runs most of the time at a level of 60 dB, which might be considered a low noise level for a mechanical appliance that runs occasionally like a dishwasher, but is quite loud for an appliance that, according to their own specs, runs at least 40% of the time. Nobody wants to notice their refrigerator. They just want it to work.
Which brings me to my second complaint, the temperature control is all over the place, generally ranging from 25-50 F. I find it difficult to believe that the government, which always seems overly concerned about the temperature of restaurant food, or the pasteurization of cheeses doesn't care that an appliance nearly every American household has doesn't necessarily do its job, and isn't required to display internal temperature. The old-fashioned set this dial to an arbitrary number and hope it's cool enough is not charming.
Finally, though the finish is listed as "stainless" steel, mine started sporting tiny rust spots after only three months. Whirlpool states that "Cosmetic issues are covered by the manufacturers warranty for the first 30 days of ownership only. After the first 30 days any repairs for cosmetic issues are the consumers responsibility." It seems as though they know they've used a low grade of stainless steel.

I purchased a Whirlpool fridge in September of 2015. In March of 2016 I noticed the Fridge portion was getting too cold. By April 2016 the freezer stopped freezing and fridge started warming up. I reported the issue to Whirlpool and made an appointment. The day of the appointment the first company called and their tech couldn't make it because of a family emergency. They sent another company out instead. That company diagnosed the issue as a faulty chiller and ordered the part and told me they would be in touch. A week goes by with no working fridge and I call them. They say it will be another week for the parts. Two weeks go by - no call. I call them and they say they have the parts and I make an appointment.
The day of the appointment I call them to find out what time they will be out and they tell me they don't have all the parts. And when I mention that I have been without a fridge and that I am frustrated that they aren't calling me and that I am having to call them back the lady starts yelling at me asking me if I want to cancel my appointment. So I call Whirlpool and ask for another company. They send a company out that is not trained to be working on a sealed unit. So I call Whirlpool back again and they send an in house tech out three days later. This is over about a month without a fridge at this point. Their tech simply recharges the system and says that it should be fine.
A week later the freezer stops freezing and the fridge warms up to the point that both are not usable. The tech comes out and diagnoses that there it is most likely the chiller because of a build up of frost in the freezer. Orders the part and a week and a bit later I call Whirlpool up to get an ETA on the parts. They say they have the parts now (no call??) and they schedule an appointment. The tech comes out and puts the part in almost a week later (2 months now) and says that it is still building up frost in an area that it shouldn't and calls tech support back and forth for the next two hours. He leaves saying "give it some time to see if it works," but admits to me that it is likely it is leaking in an area that he can't access.
So I call up Whirlpool and explain the situation and ask for a new Fridge. It has been two months and the tech by his own admission could not say he fixed the problem and thought the problem maybe somewhere else. After looking at my case and me being on hold back and forth for about a half hour the supervisor says that at this time I need to wait to see if it fails again. And that if it does I need to have a tech back on site to verify. So this will be the seventh time I took time off work, it will be the fourth time the fridge fails and that I will have to throw out groceries. When is enough enough. I am into this now for almost double what the fridge is worth in lost wages and groceries.
Do yourself a favour and stay away from Whirlpool!!! If I have to guess the following will happen: five days from now the fridge will stop working again (when the Freon leaks out - same timeline as previously) and then I have to call for a tech (3-4 days) and the tech will come out, determine that it isn't working. I have another conversation with a supervisor asking for a new fridge and they miraculously agree (yeah I know). Then what two weeks, a month... before I get a new fridge. I anticipate that I will have been without a fridge for 3 months before it is all resolved. Ridiculous is all I can say. Whirlpool should be embarrassed.

Purchased new Whirlpool 2-door, side by side refrigerator from Standards store in December 2010 for close to TT$10,000. For 2-3 years, it made a very loud noise. Each time it cut off that disturbed my peace and quiet. I complained, to no avail. In early 2015 or thereabouts I began experiencing severe warming problems in the non-freezer compartment and, since that time, I have suffered large losses from spoilage. The warming coincides with over-freezing (icicles, thick frost formation and whirling, dense cold air) in the freezer compartment and icing up of the vents in the non-freezer section. Moreover, the cool air flows from the top vent only when the freezer door is left open. Since that time I've only been able to marginally cool the non-freezer section by unplugging for up to an entire day, at least once per week.
I believe this is a manufacturing flaw rendering the non-freezer section not fit for its purpose although it manifested itself sometime after purchase. My prior experience with another brand has been totally different (13 years and still working). It is totally frustrating. It is also unsafe since spoilage is sometimes difficult to detect. Here, we have to deal with the seller and that is often a hopeless situation, particularly outside of the warranty, as has been my experience with another household appliance. I've been advised by independent technicians who reportedly have encountered this problem that the solution lies in boring a hole connecting the two compartments which then enables efficient cooling of the non-freezer compartment. Quite frankly, I would like to have the refrigerator replaced despite the fact that it is outside of the warranty.

Now the unit is about 3 years old and I just finished paying it off and all the door shelves are cracking. Contacted Whirlpool and was told by email politely, "Too bad. You are out of warranty, but please buy parts from us and say nice things about Whirlpool because we so value our customers." Never will buy Whirlpool again and recommend you DON'T.

We bought a travel trailer and it has a refrigerator with an ice maker in it and we've only used for 6 months out of the last year. The fridge is already broken (doesn't cool). They promised they would fix it even though we were out of warranty (by 7 days). That was 2 weeks ago. They've had one person come out and look at it, that couldn't fix it and now they're claiming that they never told me that they would fix it and they will only cover up to $100 for someone to come fix it but I have to find the person because they couldn't find anybody. I asked them that if this was a fridge in the house how would they go about fixing it and they said it was the same process. How do you expect somebody to go out without a fridge for two-plus weeks?
So many people told us not to buy the Camper because it had a Whirlpool in it but we didn't listen and we are regretting that now. The worst part is that after 48 hours we were promised they would replace the fridge if they couldn't get anybody to come out and fix it because they already okayed for the warranty to be used. But now the lady didn't put it in the notes which her name is Terry. We can't get a new one and we are waiting for a supervisor to call us back which probably won't even happen!!!

We purchased a WRF989SDAM03 model French door refrigerator in September. A month later it began to make grinding noises when running. The noises got louder until it sounded like a car idling. We called for service, and the technician diagnosed a failing compressor. They replaced the compressor with some difficulty. Three days later we lost cooling. They replaced the compressor again. Now the refrigerator cools, but it runs 100% of the time. I don't mean "frequently," I mean it NEVER. SHUTS. OFF. It's never not running. Today a technician came out, and after 1.5 hrs of diagnostics on the phone with a Whirlpool engineer, they've declared that "it works." Paid about $700 for it at Lowe's, and no, I didn't buy the extended warranty, thinking that for $700, a dishwasher should work a few years. Today, I arrived home from getting a haircut to a house reeking of melting plastic. This is coming from the door of the dishwasher.
I checked online, and sure enough, Whirlpool/Kitchenaid/Kenmore dishwashers have had this problem for MORE THAN TEN YEARS. There's a class-action suit that got a 15% discount on a new one. WHY THE HECK would I want ANOTHER Whirlpool or Kitchenaid ANYTHING? I called, and of course, "since your dishwasher is more than 6 months out of warranty, we can't do anything". So it only matters if your house catches fire and your family and pets die of smoke inhalation if the thing is under warranty? I'd like to fix this thing and recoup some of my $700, but as I have at least a smidgen of a moral compass, I cannot. Guess I'll have to eat it myself...

In looking at other reviews I came across one that had the same issues. It's from Richard in Eatonton, GA on March 14, 2016. The doors did not line up and would not seal properly. Whirlpool was notified right away and a tech came out the following week and said it appears as though the inner door seal wasn't sitting properly. One was ordered. He returned again with the new part and installed it. Didn't help a thing. Another call was made. Tech came out again and noticed doors were not lining up and no adjustments could be made. Again, nothing resolved. Contacted Whirlpool again. They told me they were going to send the tech back to put a shim on the back right hand corner in hopes it would twist the refrigerator enough to have doors close properly... Really!! Shim did not do a thing.

Now, less than 4 months later, the refrigerator is again not working properly. Freezer is not freezing properly. Takes 2 days to freeze ice. This is the absolutely worst refrigerator I've ever had. My last refrigerator lasted 20 years. This one is only 3 years old and of course, the warranty is now expired. I will never buy another Whirlpool product. Purchased WRF989SDAM00 French Door refrigerator in 2013, and 33 months later it is not cooling (fridge 45/freezer 36 degrees). Service call diagnosis is a leak in the sealed component area. Since it out of the 1 year warranty period, nothing is covered. This is the first of Whirlpool's dual evaporator models, and is technically challenging according to the service technician. Most likely one or both evaporators are defective, and this type of failure comes with a recommendation to change out the compressor as well as it is moisture compromised.
As my previous Kitchen Aids had 10 year sealed component warranties, and the Whirlpool is the same base mechanism as the Kitchen Aid, I contacted Whirlpool to see if they would extend my warranty coverage to these sealed components. Website submission - never got an answer. Called the customer service line - they politely told me they were sorry but there is nothing they can offer me. Even the extended service plan would not cover me as this refrigerator has a "preexisting problem" and it must be 100% operational to begin an extended service contract.
I'm extremely disappointed in this fridge only lasting 33 months, in comparison to my previous Whirlpool/Kitchen Aid refrigerators. Of course the internet just allows me to see that I'm not alone is purchasing a short lived appliance. So here is my contribution to the internet of things: Do not purchase Whirlpool refrigerators expecting them to last much beyond the warranty period. Buyer beware.

Purchased this Whirlpool refrigerator WRT771REYM at Home Depot in June 2014. Within a few months of purchase, had to call for a repair tech because the water line had frozen. Tech unfroze it and told us not to block the air vents to avoid this happening again. The amount of care we have to take to load this fridge so as not to have the water line freeze is ridiculous. It's very picky. For a while, we were still having to unfreeze the line every couple of months. Then it became more and more frequent, to the point where we can't keep it unfrozen for more than a few hours. This seems like shoddy design to me. And of course, the warranty is expired so I am out of luck unless I want to pay for repairs out of pocket.
Adding insult to injury, Whirlpool claims that this isn't a common issue. Not true - there are numerous reviews about this very issue on Amazon, Sears, Home Depot, etc. Just try googling the model #. Sad that Whirlpool does not stand behind its products. Yet another American company to stop building quality and rely on planned obsolescence to ensure revenue generation.

If you like having to use a funnel to refill plastic water bottles, and enjoy ice splashed all over your kitchen floor then the Whirlpool Gold refrigerator is the model for you. The problem with ice is if you don't have your glass "sealed" up to the ice dispenser it will shoot ice out over the top of the glass, and even if you DO do that when you try to remove your glass to cut off the ice supply it continues to disperse ice everywhere. TIP: The only way to more efficiently stop ice from spraying all over your wood floor is to do this: When your glass is full of ice, simply open a door on the refrigerator. That IMMEDIATELY stops the flow of ice OR water. Works great, and it's the only way to deal with this horrid design flaw in this product....

My first thought was "I have been a homeowner for 30 years and countless appliances and never heard such a horrible sound." At the same time they sold me an extended warranty over the phone. He assured me sounds were covered. The sound just kept getting louder and more frequent. I could not take this piercing sound and called back. They sent a local repair service. When I called to register the brand new range they told me it had been previously registered to someone else and they made me fax my receipt to them proving that the appliance was purchased new. Lowe's said it was brand new in the box when I purchased it leading me to believe Whirlpool tried to pass off a refurbished product onto Lowe's and then onto us. No surprise when the stove stopped working 3 times in barely over a year. It was so defective Lowe's ended up replacing it for us. Not Whirlpool... they only argued with me about how the third time it was out of warranty and offered no help in fixing or replacing the defective oven.
Now our ice maker just stopped dispensing ice 7 days after our warranty expired on our refrigerator model # WRS586FLDM00. Whirlpool will only agree to cover parts and is sticking us with the service call and labor! And that's not all... the plastic coating on the dishwasher racks started coming off exposing rusty metal when it was barely over a year old and I have received a postcard indicating there is a lawsuit involving our model for overheating and fire events! Now waiting for that to be our next issue. I am so disgusted with Whirlpool. We bought Whirlpool appliances believing they were quality products. They are quite the opposite. We bought all Whirlpool Gold Appliances when we re-did our kitchen 5 years ago -- fridge, d. washer, oven, glass top stove, and microwave. Recently I noticed a pool of water in front of the fridge. Turns out there is a "sticky grommet" problem that prevents moisture from draining into a pan on the inside back bottom of the fridge. Whirlpool will send you a replacement part that is totally different than the original poor design (a long hose affair) BUT won't pay for the labor to put it in unless the unit is less than 2 years old.
I watched a video showing how to do it, but it looks pretty tricky and involved plus risky because you can break the drain pan in the process. Spoke with a Whirlpool rep and a supervisor -- both admitted to a "quality" problem but got nowhere on the labor. They're sending the part, and the supervisor's supervisor is supposed to give me a call, so we'll see if they eventually do the right thing and cover the labor. I mean c'mon... the part's obvious a bad design, or they wouldn't be sending a totally redesigned part! Covering the labor only if it's two years old or less? Even the Whirlpool techs online are saying the problem happens after about 4 years! The grommet gets sticky and won't drain due to heat from the compressor, and that takes time to happen. I'll update this when I hear back from Whirlpool.

Once the warranty had expired I continued upon the advice of Whirlpool Customer Service to schedule their certified Technicians to work on the problem. A year and a half and several hundred dollars later I am still unable to get ice cubes when desired.
Ultimately I was advised that I would need to use the ice maker once a day to keep it from forming into a block. When this didn't solve the problem I again contacted Whirlpool, had another of their recommended service technician come and give his advice. I was told that the ice maker needs to be in constant use or it forms a block and this is a defect in the design of this unit. A Pro Tech Appliance Inc. I just contacted them today 2-9-16 to inquire about my doors since it has been well over the 4 to 6 weeks Whirlpool said it should take to receive them. The Whirlpool rep on the phone had no information about the status of the doors and said that they would have to contact the service company to inquire more about the status of the doors. He also said that under special circumstances, it may take an additional two weeks for certain door orders. I once again requested a different model of refrigerator or a refund.
I tried to get HHGregg to allow me to return the 2nd refrigerator just days after I received it since I was having the same issues as the original one I purchased. HHGregg said they could not since the 2nd refrigerator did not come from them. HHGregg said that they did not know why Whirlpool sent me a replacement refrigerator directly and added that normally the returns go through them. Whirlpool sent me 5 replacement parts and they were all defective with the same crack visible in the replacements.
Finally I got a replacement handle that looked good and it broke today, Feb 6th 2016, in the same place as the first one. I should mention that each time the company replaced the fridge it was with a different and better model and each with a slightly different handle. There are other design flaws with the fridge. The door is in a corner and there are cabinets on the wall so the door can only open slightly more than 90 degrees which makes it impossible to open the crisper drawer enough to get a cabbage in it and if I want to clean the crisper drawer I must move and turn the fridge in the kitchen. Also if the crisper drawer is not closed completely it causes the guard rail on the bottom door shelf to fly off sending everything on the bottom shelf to fall to the floor. Fun when some are made of glass and filled with liquid.
You would think I would have learned my lesson about this company but no! I went to Lowe's and bought a Whirlpool dishwasher and when I saw that the automatic door would not open enough to dispense the soap, powder or packet I called a certified Whirlpool repairman who told me after receiving a duplicate that of course would not work either, that there was no solution to the problem and I went back to Lowe's and bought a Samsung and my problems were solved. I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER Whirlpool or as I now call it, Whirledpoo, product, EVER.

We purchased the Whirlpool refrigerator on July 9, 2012. Refrigerator was replaced on August 23, 2012. Since then there have been many, many service calls. I wish I had kept records to be able to tell you exactly how many times, but we purchased an extended warranty. From memory, I can tell you the ice maker has been replaced twice, new doors have been installed for refrigerator and freezer (replacing ice maker a third time), then within the last three months the freezer door was again replaced (replacing ice maker a fourth time). The gasket on the freezer door has been replaced. At one point the refrigerator was colder and freezing and the freezer was not freezing. Parts and pieces have been repaired on several occasions. The inside of the freezer door next to the ice maker is still frosting up and yet again the ice maker is not functioning and needs to be replaced a fifth time.
In other words this Whirlpool refrigerator has been a lemon for us. Finally, we figured it out. There is a fairly large gap at the top of the freezer door between the case and the gasket. If you run your hand across the area where the gap is, there is definitely a "dip" in the face of the refrigerator case where you can see the top of the ice maker. A picture showing the gap is attached. I am not sure that our purchasing a store extended warranty was fortunate or not. My husband has insisted on repairing this thing over and over and over because of the extended warranty. I think repairing it is futile and the only people being punished by all the repair calls is us because we frequently do not have ice, we are losing food because of freezing or not freezing or cooling or not cooling as the case may be.
Thank God, the warranty expires in July and we can repair this Whirlpool by replacing it with another brand -- not in any way associated with Whirlpool. If you Google Whirlpool, you will find that Whirlpool is affiliated with almost every other brand of refrigerator and really limits your choices. Based on my experience with this Whirlpool refrigerator, I will never purchase another Whirlpool or any other brand associated with the Whirlpool brand. The myriad of repair persons in my home probably find a Whirlpool refrigerator is job security for them.

Went to Sears {place of purchase} and we were asked immediately if we had purchased the extended warranty. We purchased a brand new Whirlpool refrigerator (model WRF990SLAM00) when we bought our house at the end of 2012 (possibly beginning of 2013). It ran seemingly well for the first year or so. About 1.5 years into its life we started seeing small amounts of water on the floor near the unit. I should point out that this may have started sooner and not been noticed, as we could have mistaken tiny puddles for spilled water or ice. Over the course of a few months we realized that there was an intermittent water discharge from the bottom of the refrigerator, approximately once per month at first, and eventually about once per week. Through a little research and investigation, we found out that the entire evaporator coil in the freezer was frozen over. We went through the standard procedure of defrosting the ice, and after that we stopped seeing puddles of water.
Into year three, we began noticing that the ice cream in the freezer was not staying as solid as it used to. As time went on the problem got worse ever-so-slowly, until eventually we lost all the food in the freezer. Over the next few months, the freezer went from freezing to cooling, to pretty much room temperature. The refrigerator seemed to work okay, but when we measured the actual temperature, we realized that it was also not cooling properly. We had a certified service technician come out to diagnose the problem. He took a picture of the model/SN tag, briefly glanced into the main refrigerator compartment, and without any further diagnosis, was able to tell us that there was a leak--something to do with the evaporator and the sealed refrigeration system. He quoted us about $600 price to fix it, which would be in addition to the fee for the diagnostic appointment.
We asked how long the fix would last, considering that from a brand new condition we started seeing problems about 18 months into its life. He told us that once the leak is fixed it would not need to be repaired again. That didn't make sense--how could a brand new unit start leaking just after its first year of service, but after the leak is repaired it's permanently fixed? The unit must have been defective right off the manufacturing floor, and we likely didn't notice the symptoms until over a year later. After consulting with certified Whirlpool technicians and doing some more research, we discovered that this is an extremely common problem with these refrigerators. It seems that Whirlpool is aware of the issue and for whatever reason does not resolve it. I contacted Whirlpool's support department for help. They explained that the refrigerator only has a 12-month warranty. How convenient...
The appliance seems to have been built to last just a little longer than the warranty. If this is a known and common issue that costs each consumer almost $700 to repair, I would have expected Whirlpool to either resolve the issue on the manufacturing floor, or at least stand by their defective product and repair it. After about 20 minutes of "negotiations" with the support team, a supervisor offered to pay for a replacement part as long as we pay for the repairs. What a slap in the face! We went with Whirlpool, thinking that it's a solid brand--huge mistake! To make things somewhat worse, we recently purchased a Whirlpool convection microwave to match the styling of this refrigerator. I sincerely hope that the microwave is not a dud also.

I bought a Whirlpool fridge in 2014 and started having problems a year later. It was making really loud noises and the fridge part wasn't working. All the food was warm. Of course there is no warranty on it after one year. I called a repairman and he said that the doors don't seal properly so the warm air is getting in causing condensation which freezes the engine/fan which is the cause of the loud noise. The reason why the upper fridge is warm is because the fan pushes the cold air up from the freezer, which of course wasn't working. Then I noticed that the frame at the bottom of the fridge is bending causing the freezer not to seal properly which would be the reason for warm air getting inside the fridge.

I received this Email from the Whirlpool Director of Consumer Care to evaluate my experience with their customer service department. I filled out the survey over a week ago including a complete documentation of my problems and have not even received an acknowledgment of the survey or promise to look into my problems.
In the last 7 months I have experienced problems with 2 Whirlpool major appliances which both appear to be unrepairable and which have been unsuccessfully brought to the attention of your customer support group. In March a fridge and in October a clothes washer. Both were high end products roughly 3 to 4 years old. I did not have an extended warranty with the fridge so I dealt directly with the customer support group. However I was covered by warranty with the washer and your distributor Bad Boy have been making the calls on my behalf but have been just as disappointed to date as I was.
Both cases were very similar. In both cases the repairman came out within a few days and promised to return the following week with the broken part but I have never heard from either one of them EVER. In the case of the fridge I was told to defrost it the day before the promised repair date and lost all the food $$$. At this stage a number of calls went out from me to Whirlpool for the fridge and from Bad Boy for the washer and eventually we both got a new delivery date of roughly one month. Both times the date passed with no shows and no call backs. Repeated calls later to the customer service group, with promises of EXPEDITING the delivery, the fridge part delivery date was extended to 3 months so we had no choice but to buy a new fridge. As for the washer, Bad Boy even had an unsuccessful face to face meeting with your representatives and we have had no word back or expected delivery dates well into the third month.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO? I have made so many calls with so few call backs and no clue what to expect or when? Your representatives use the word expedite with no idea what the word means. At the suggestion of one of your representatives I even called one of your distributors Sears to see if they had the part. Their Canadian head office is in the Philippines and they said they had the same problem with Whirlpool. Twice I tried to talk with your representatives supervisor and both times were unsuccessful.
In a world of computers where it should take seconds to find inventory parts and expediting packages usually refers to next day delivery, the fact Whirlpool requires months is unbelievable. The only explanations I can come up with is 1- You don't make parts for your appliances. 2- New appliances are made so poorly all parts are gone. 3- You could not care less about your customers. 4- You don't own a computer. Most of our appliances are Whirlpool because we thought you had a good reputation. We had to purchase a new fridge and still have had no word on the washer?

Best Buy wanted to fix it but after much arguing with them and Whirlpool they brought me a new refrigerator. Now, the same thing is happening. We bought the Gold Series Whirlpool fridge (Model WRF990SLAM00) in December 2013. A few months after its first repair, (dripping on the top left inside of the fridge), which happened within the first year and was covered by the manufacturer’s warranty, it started to make an incredibly loud whirring sound that kept us up at night. Our bedroom is upstairs and far away from our kitchen, and I had to sleep with earplugs to not hear the noise. We tested the noise on a decibel app and it came in between 66-70. A normal fridge noise level should be around 52 decibels. We had a repairman come out and he replaced a fan even though he told me it wasn't going to fix the problem. Wait, what? After he replaced the fan and the whir continued, we called Lowe's extended warranty again, and they sent out a different company: 1-800-Appliance.
The second guy replaced two kits and found some issue with the ice maker, which we were not even aware of, but the noise remained, and he then had the gall to say it was a normal noise. If it was normal, wouldn't it have been making that noise the first year we had it? We had 1-800-Appliance come out again and he determined he couldn't fix it, so Lowe's sent another guy from the same company, and he replaced the same fan that the first guy replaced, which was clearly not the problem. Three perfectly good fans were wasted. BTW, the repairman who said the noise was "normal" told us that the fridge had a part that was made to be replaced after purchase because if Whirlpool had the part at the point of sale, the fridge would not meet the Energy Star standards. Hello, lawsuit! After three repairs for the same problem and five visits that did not fix the problem, we were told Lowe's would issue us a return order in three days. Finally!
Not so fast... one week later, no one called, so I called them and then Lowe's denied having told us that! We gave them the name of the person who told us they would take the fridge back, but the woman on the other end said she had no record of that (how convenient) and, despite the California lemon law requiring only three attempts at a repair, they would require yet another attempt by one of their repairmen. She told me that if he determined the noise was abnormally loud and not repairable, then she could contact the manufacturer and go from there. So they sent a guy from the first company out and he wrote down that the fridge was not repairable and was very noisy. He said that should take the fridge back at that point.
My husband called Lowe's several days later after not being contacted by them and they told him that they need to send a different repairman out from 1-800-Appliance and that only 1-800-Appliance could determine if we could get a refund. If that was true, then why send the other company out? By the way, the second guy sent out by 1-800-Appliance wrote down that the noise was very loud and wasn't fixed by his repair. But the notes Lowe's said they received from him didn't say that at all. They told me that he wrote that the noise level was normal. I am starting to think there is collusion between Lowe's and 1-800-Appliance. Something very wrong here. So, six visits later and horrible customer service from both Lowe's and 1-800-appliance, we are now being told that the "repairs" need to be 30 days apart from each other before they will issue a return.
If the cause of the noise was never actually repaired, then why do we have to wait a month between repairs? We continue to jump through the hoops that Lowe's keeps throwing our way, but it is now clear that they have no intention of taking the fridge back. The fridge is less than two years old, and we have the extended warranty. We couldn't take the noise any further because it felt like it was causing hearing loss and after several months of that horrible sound we were both on edge, so we bought an amazingly quiet fridge from Pacific Sales, and they assured us that they would not do to us what Lowe's did. Pacific Sales pride themselves with having good customer service. Lowe's seems to have taken delight in lying to us, selling us a lemon, and then not righting a wrong.
We have moved the loud piece of ** into our garage, and if Lowe's continues to change the rules of a return and act in collusion with 1-800-appliance, probably in hopes that we will simply throw in the towel, then at least we don't have to hear that horrible sound in the meantime. If they don't do the right thing and take back the fridge, then we will simply keep calling out a repairman to "fix" the problem. We have three more years of our warranty, and if Lowe's doesn't do the right thing, we will make them pay for this one way or another. Viva la revolucion!!

We bought a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator new. When the first one was delivered it had electronic problems. We sent that one back. The next one, same model, seemed to be alright for a few days then it developed electronic problems. My son discovered the problem was caused by a faulty door panel in the freezer. The panel would come loose and if you knocked it back in place the electronics would work until the panel came loose again. Whirlpool would do nothing about our complaint.
Now the refrigerator section freezes things. We paid to have it fixed 2 months ago and now have the problem again. The repairman said he had brought up concerns in meetings about the same door problems and been "blown off". Our food is freezing in the refrigerator again and Whirlpool has "blown us off" again. We will never buy Whirlpool again. I trusted Consumer's Report when I bought the Whirlpool and that goes to show you that doesn't always work either.

Have had it repaired once and the second time the repairman said we need a new evaporator and condenser. Called Whirlpool and they said since it is out of warranty we are on our own. According to both repairman this is a common problem with this model (WRF989SDAW00). I understand that appliances break and they need repaired; however, you would think a refrigerator that cost over $3000 would last longer than 2 years. Do not purchase a Whirlpool French Door Refrigerator; even if you purchase an extended warranty, you will still have spoiled food and leaking water to tend with. I went online to compare and found out I could purchase the exact same washing machine at home depot & best buy for $50 cheaper. I called back to see if there was anything they could have done and they would not budge.
Shame on you Whirlpool. You have lost a customer and I will make sure no one I know buys one of your products ever again. I cannot believe that you would not make any accommodations for us. Retail price, $3100. Purchased from Sears Outlet for 2/3 of that amount due to dings on a side panel, back and some blemishes on the front. Still sold as 'new' with a new warranty (Good thing!). I've had full use of the unit for 1 month out of 3 that I've had it. Freezer stays at a temperature in the mid-20's and, after 4 repair visits, it turns out the compressor is faulty and now I'm waiting for the 2nd part to arrive and be installed to see if that corrects the problem. Sears stepped away from the problem saying it will be repaired. Whirlpool has wonderful telephone support that is totally committed to me staying with a faulty appliance until it's "fixed". My view is that a unit that expensive, should be no problem to replace allowing Whirlpool to take as long as they want to make repairs and re-sell it. But no; their commitment is to keeping the refrigerator in my house and running a service tech back and forth while I continue tossing food that cannot be used.

According to a quick google search, it is a widely known issue that Whirlpool has not addressed. We have never used abrasive cleaners, only wipes that are made for stainless appliances. We use them on all of our stainless appliances. The fridge is the only one that now has 10+ areas of pitting rust. It continues to spread! What the heck?
Secondly, the ice maker stopped working at 16 months. First it was just the auger that stopped turning. Which was inconvenient but not the end of the world. It still produced ice, but we had to open the door and pull ice out instead of having it dispensed. Now it has stopped producing ice altogether. We had the repair guy out today. Apparently, the motor for the auger and the actual ice maker are not receiving power any longer. The certified tech said it was either the main control board or bad wiring somewhere from the control board to the ice maker.
For a small fortune, we can try putting in a new board. If the new board doesn't work, we will then know it is a wiring issue. If it is a wiring issue, we will have paid for a new board that was not needed, and we are out of luck completely on the wiring issue. Part of the wiring is sealed within the freezer door. A new freezer door costs nearly as much as the fridge. Part of the wiring is sealed in the back of the fridge. It is impossible to open the seal without breaking the fridge, because the back is a sealed system. But it does keep our food cold. Just don't put anything the top shelf of the fridge because it will freeze. Thanks for the 1 year warranty Whirlpool! You timed it perfectly! What a joke.

The refrigerator section isn't keeping as cold as it should. I call Whirlpool, but didn't have a warranty, so if I paid more money we could have a warranty and get it fixed. Who has that kind of money. When we purchased our appliances we thought we were buying good quality appliances. That sure isn't the case. They should last way longer than less than 3 years.
I called where we purchased it from. Had the service man come out. There are four major parts that are wrong with it. $800 plus at least 3 hours of labor. Not worth that. Again who can afford such money as this. I called Whirlpool again. They could give me money off a new fridge but it would still cost almost $1600. I'm so unhappy with the appliances. We also have a stove and that doesn't work right either. I believe that we should be compensated way more than they are offering.
I would not buy another Whirlpool again. I will make sure people know that it isn't good quality. I'm so sad. Who would have thought. It is time that the people at the top of the company think of those lower than they are. The people I spoke to on phone were very kind. I know they really can't do much. DON'T BUY WHIRLPOOL! I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator 5 years ago. In June I had to have a new thermostat put in because the refrigerator would not stay cold. The food in the freezer would defrost and then freeze, defrost and then freeze. I had to throw all of the food out. Two weeks ago the refrigerator was making a groaning noise so I looked in the freezer and the temperature was up to 30 degrees. The ice cream was soft, the bread and buns that I had in the freezer were defrosting and small things like crab cakes had also started to defrost. Eventually the temperature went back down to zero.
So I called out the repairman AGAIN! He told me this is "normal" that the freezer goes up to 30 degrees to "defrost" the freezer and the groaning noise I heard had to do with the Freon. It cannot be "normal" for food to freeze, defrost and freeze again. I called their customer service and their representative, Jasmine, basically told me all she could do for me was to schedule a service call. Really? I just had the repairman out the day before. I would not, at this time, even really give this product 1 star, but that was the lowest rating allowable. We purchased a Whirlpool Gold French Door Refrigerator at Lowes a couple of years ago after our Amana was toasted by a close proximity lightning strike. (It got more than just our frig, but the replacement frig is the only item we have had issues with.) We even got the extended warranty thru Lowes for the unit. Shortly after the extended warranty expired we started having issues with the bottom freezer door icing up. We thought that possibly the grandkids had not shut the freezer. So we cleaned up the ice around the door, but the problem persisted.
The ice cream in the freezer was rock solid, to get it out of the container you had to put it in the microwave for a couple of minutes. The items in the frig were also frozen. So we emptied the frig and freezer, unplugged the unit and let it sit for a couple of days with the doors all open. We then plugged it back in and hoped for the best. It seemed to be ok for a couple of days then the ice on the freezer door appeared again. At this point, I contacted Whirlpool to see who was a licensed repair company in our area. I contacted the licensed repair service, explained my issue, they got the model and serial number info and ordered what parts could conceivably be the culprits.
The tech came, the unit was frozen up, all the vents in the freezer were showing icing. So he removed the back of the freezer compartment and thawed the unit out. At the same time I mentioned that the ice maker had quit working, he found that the wiring connection was not properly connected and fixed that while he had all the stuff out. After re-assembly he ran all the diagnostic tests Whirlpool lists and found everything passed. Since the boxes of parts had not been opened they could all be returned to stock. So no charge for parts, as he could not find indication that any were needed.
So 1 service call at $100 and it appeared that maybe the issue was resolved, not the case. Not even a month later, issue re-occurred. No grandkids had been there, no instance of the freezer possibly left ajar. Another service call, and by the time the tech arrived, since I had unplugged the unit and emptied it again, all the frost/ice was melted. $100 for a service call, tests all came back as nothing indicated as not functioning.
So if I don't put too much stuff in the freezer or too much stuff in the frig it will run without freezing up for about a month. Oh and weekly put it into the defrost mode a couple of times. Now it has started making a tic-tic-tic or rat-tat-tat sound to the fun and games. If the noise is non-stop, it only stops when you open the freezer door. Leading me to believe it is a fan. (Correct, I was told by the local Whirlpool licensed repair facility.) I have spent the weekend, again thawing out my unit in hopes that the noise will cease. It is loud enough to be heard at the other end of the house.
No such luck, so I spent an unproductive 1-1/2 hours on a call to Whirlpool yesterday. The larger part of the time was "on hold" waiting to talk with someone, anyone. "Due to our unusually high call volume, wait-time is long today. Thank you for your patience. To retain your place in line, do not hang up." Finally, I got a rep named Karen, who sounded like she was almost asleep. She had very little to offer except, "I'm sorry you are experiencing these problems. I have no record of previous complaints like yours on record for this model of our product."
Hello, I found 929 reports of the same issue on Consumer Reports. "Oh, you can't believe what you read on the internet" was her response to that tidbit. She offered to sell me a Repair Plus 1 Plan for only $359.95. A licensed repair service comes, repairs your unit and the plan gives you ONE YEAR of peace of mind. "Let's see..." I said... "so you are offering me an extended one year warranty?" "Oh, but it comes with a repair first then one-year peace of mind." Seems that Whirlpool has moved into selling warranty extensions rather than fixing the issues with these Whirlpool Gold French Door refrigerators. With what I have already paid for service calls added to this Repair plus 1 Plan, I would have invested $$$ enough to BUY A NEW FRIG that is not a Whirlpool product.
Seems a bit foolish to me. So Whirlpool is not admitting that there is a design or manufacturing problem with these units. Even the ones sold just this year seem to have the same issue. They have not corrected this and it appears they have no intent to do anything about it. She did indicate that they had a known issue with the drain and that a fix was offered for that (a redesigned drain unit could be installed). But since I was not getting ice build up on the bottom of my freezer compartment I did not appear to need the redesigned drain unit. Her evaluation of my issue was that the drain did not appear to be a problem.
So after a fruitless call to Whirlpool, oh and they did have my previous emails concerning my issues on file but did not consider my complaints to be part of a 'known issue', I have the local tech coming back to see if possibly there is something, anything to be done with this refrigerator. So another $100 at least, likely no resolution if the service tests all come up normal again! So when the tech comes, I am going to ask him to contact the "service engineer" that he is supposed to have the contact info for (per Karen at Whirlpool) and see if he can get any resolution to my issues by using that 'service engineer'.

When I called Whirlpool 10/19/2015, 800-253-1301, I was told by their representative that this was normal, that air from the freezer blows into the refrigerator through vents and to just re-arrange my food so that it is not pushed to the back of the refrigerator. I asked him if this was normal why wasn't this happening in the first few months but only developed later? He had no answer. I asked him if it made sense if this was normal then everyone who buys this refrigerator has to make sure their food is not pushed to the back of the unit, then why don't they state that in the directions for use???
"Ok everyone make sure every day you push all your food to the front of the unit so it doesn't freeze" ridiculous. He just said "that's the best thing to do". I asked him if I could talk to a technician, if maybe there was a way to fix it manually and he said "there were no technicians there". I asked him if he knew about the lemon law and he said "they don't have that there"... ok. We moved to the mountains of Florissant, CO mid November of 2012. The home we bought needed some renovations. In February of 2013 we bought three Whirlpool appliances from Best Buy before we were ready to. Renovated our kitchen, because they were having a great sale. That was our first mistake. The appliances had to be ordered, and it took a while for all of them to finally come in. We had no idea that it snows up here until almost mid June, and Best Buy wouldn't be able to deliver the appliances until June.
We had hired a contractor to renovate the kitchen and had given him half of the money. To make a long story short, he took our money, wouldn't come do the job, but wouldn't give us our money back. Finally did part of the work and never came back again. He sent someone else to do the rest of the job, but he was not licensed, did horrible work that needed to be torn out and be completely redone, yet demanded to be paid for what he did. We ended up in a lawsuit and couldn't hire anybody to finish the kitchen until the lawsuit was settled. By the time the kitchen was finished the refrigerator was already out of warranty.
Within days of the refrigerator being plugged up ice began to form at the top back part of the refrigerator. I called Best Buy and over the phone they told me what it was. The refrigerator had been poorly designed. A tube that ran up the back and across the top of the refrigerator to the ice maker created a lot of condensation and was causing ice to form. The Geek Squad representative said that Whirlpool had been aware of the design flaw and had created a kit to fix it. It consisted of insulation, a blower, and maybe a different type of tubing. Anyway, Best Buy said that Whirlpool was responsible for this repair and that it was around $400 and a $100 trip charge, so we're talking $500 plus. Since the refrigerator was no longer under warranty with Best Buy I was advised to call Whirlpool since the problem originated in the factory and came like that.
I called Whirlpool and they lied and told me there was nothing in their computer system about this design flaw. I called Best Buy back, and they said that Whirlpool had sent something to them about it via the computer and that it was definitely in their system. I called Whirlpool back in July of 2014 and tried to escalate it, but only got the runaround.
Now they admit that a recall was done, which had to be in their system, but said that there are two different types of recall. One type is a recall for something that could be dangerous to human life. That type of recall they will take financial responsibility for. Then there is what they call an inconvenience recall. They do not take financial responsibility for anything that falls under that category. For inconvenience recalls, they apparently only contact the companies that have sell their products are contacted, so that they are aware of potential problems that may need to be addressed by their maintenance departments. I feel that a decent, honest responsible company should be willing to take responsibility for things they know we're wrong with their product before it ever left their factory or warehouse.
Now the freezer isn't working. I called and complained because I thought it was connected to the original problem. All Whirlpool offered to do was to sell me an extended warranty for $319. It's with a company called Assurant, but when you call them they answer as Whirlpool Extended Warranty Program. They told me this would cover the original problem, whatever is wrong with it now, and anything that goes wrong in the next year. I was also promised to not have to put out another dime, so I bought it. Assurant was suppose to set the repair up and pay for it.
After almost a week of not hearing from them I called. They informed me that they couldn't find anybody who was qualified to come up here and work on it. I asked them why they didn't call Best Buy. They said it wasn't their policy. I was informed that I was to find someone on my own and have the repairman call them with an explanation of what was wrong with it and the repair cost. If they approved it, then I was to pay for all of the repairs in advance, and they would reimburse me. I had a fit, but they told me that I would either do it that way or the extended warranty would be canceled, and they would just reimburse me the $319 I had paid for the extended warranty.
I called Best Buy. They sent a repair man out. He found that the coil at the back of the freezer was covered in a block of ice. He took a blow dryer and thawed it up. He said to put something in the freezer that would freeze it to see if it went back to working properly. He gave us his cell phone number and told us to call him the next day to let him know. In the meantime he was going to contact Whirlpool to see what would have caused that. Well, nothing froze. He called us later and said that Whirlpool had informed him that the coil probably had something that was causing a blockage. It was either a piece of trash that had gotten into the coil at the factory or a bend in the coil, which had to have occurred at the factory; because it's inside a closed unit. The repairman said that Best Buy never goes into a closed unit to try to repair it, because they are not qualified, but that if they were it would still cost me a fortune to have that done.
He said that Best Buy just replaces the refrigerator, but that's only when it's under their warranty. The repair man told me the bill to fix the condensation problem was going to be about $550, and that was before the coil problem was ever discussed. I asked him to call Assurant and tell them everything he told us. He did, and was told there were options to escalate it to the next level. He gave me the phone number. I called it and talked to a representative who told me what the notes in their computer system said. Basically it said to give me my $319 back. Then I was given a phone number to Whirlpool, because I demanded to escalate it.
I called the number she gave me. The Whirlpool representative asked me why I hadn't called Sears and offered to call them for me but told me I would be responsible for all the repairs, and that they would not be financially responsible for anything in any way. The guy kept putting me on hold and was apparently getting advice from someone higher in authority.
I had already been told that no one in Colorado Springs would go into a closed system to repair that refrigerator, because of the labor and costs. I asked this guy if he just didn't believe the Best Buy repairman or what. There is no telling what Sears will charge me to give me a second opinion. Best Buy has offered to reimburse me for their diagnostic trip up here. If Sears finds the same thing, I'm sure they won't reimburse me their trip charge because it didn't come from there.
This refrigerator was regularly $2,600. I got it on sale for $2,000 plus sales tax. I can't sell it like it is, I can't get it fixed, and it's too big to use as an anchor. In other words, it's cost me $2,000 to use this refrigerator for two years, and I have nothing to show for it. You may be saying that I should have bought an extended warranty from Best Buy when I bought it, but that would've only taken care of the condensation problem. We would've ended up with an unfixable freezer problem anyway. That wouldn't have changed a thing. That extra year warranty would have expired by now.
Whirlpool products are inferior, and Whirlpool doesn't take responsibility for their mistakes. They are no better than some of the car companies that have been on the news lately. Take my advice, don't buy Whirlpool products and don't ever be stupid enough to buy their extended warranty. I will never buy another Whirlpool product as long as I live, and if you have any sense, you won't either.

Last December our refrigerator began to freeze food - gallons of milk, bowls of food, and produce. I called Whirlpool: Of course the warranty had expired. It was suggested we turn the unit off back on to reset the computer. We did this for 2 or 3 months and eventually it worked properly. We were gone for 12 days, now the icemaker has stopped and all food is frozen. I called - they will send a tech for a minimum of $95. Read how many trips are usually made before a problem is solved. Cheaper and more logical to buy another unit from anyone but Whirlpool.

Last week I gave my credit card # to the rep - who told me my part was sitting there, waiting for my # to be shipped. When I asked why no one had called me to let me know, especially considering the amount of time I have been waiting - she said she didn't know.
One week later, I call AGAIN to find out why my credit card does not show the payment. Only this time to talk to a fellow who says my part is still on backorder, and they used my card # to put a $1.00 charge against it - to hold it for "when" my part arrives.. BUT has NO IDEA when that may be! I feel Angry, totally discouraged, lied to, and used! I will NEVER purchase any appliances under the Whirlpool affiliate. Whirlpool WRF 990SLAM00 - I'm 62, I have owned, and my family has owned a number of refrigerators and never have had any problems. I have been used to my refrigerators and major appliances lasting 15 plus years without any problems. I mostly bought Maytag washers and GE kitchen appliances. I had trouble with a GE dishwasher, out of warranty, but GE was very nice about it and came out and fixed it at no charge, then replaced it for free when it failed again. (No new problems in 4 yrs.).
Then I made the big mistake of going with Whirlpool products in my new house in Florida, where I live half the year. What a mistake. First there was the Cabrio washer. After 1 yr and a week, It would not go to the spin cycle. I called Whirlpool, they said, "Sorry, out of warranty." I told them, "I only live in this place for half the year, so I have hardly used the machine." The Whirlpool person said, "Sorry out of warranty." I asked for a supervisor and they were worse than the first person. The attitude was screw you, you should have bought the extended warranty. I called a repairman who fixed it for 150 dollars. During the spin cycle it gets really loud, but at least it works.
Then the refrigerator. I arrived back in FL and the 1.5 year old refrigerator was not cooling. I called Whirlpool and said I needed a repairman. They said, "Out of warranty, you can buy an extended warranty for 345 dollars." I said, "No, a refrigerator should not fail at 1.5 years, send a repair man." He was great, but said the unit had a Freon leak somewhere in the box that was un-repairable. He told me, "You need a new refrigerator." I will now call Whirlpool and see what they will do for me, but I expect little based on my experience with the washer, and others comments above. I will go back to all GE products after this as at least they seem to stand behind their products. Oh, and since Whirlpool now owns Maytag, as Whirlpool owns them now. Sad.

We purchased a side by side Whirlpool refrigerator/freezer in June 2011 and have had nothing but problems with this piece of crap appliance. Ice maker has been repaired 3 times, water line clogged twice because of freezing and thawing. Now the machine only cools both sides to 45 degrees F. I am having a repair person come out on Monday to tell me what is wrong but I am so upset with the poor workmanship of this product I don't want to put another dime into the repair. We paid $1100 on this and have paid at least $600 in repairs over the past 4 years!! I agree with all of the other comments on the poor manufacturing choices. We had a GE prior to this and it lasted 10 years but we had the same issues. Repairing it every few years. I am not sure what brand to purchase next. If anyone has a suggestion I would be open to it.

Whirlpool Refrigerator WRS526SIAH00. Well we have always had a lot of trust in Whirlpool appliances over the years. Just about everything we have is Whirlpool brand including water heater. We remodeled our kitchen and bought a new refrigerator in July 2013 (just for the color/look change). We have had nothing but problems from day one with the water/ice dispenser water may or may not work. Now (AUG 2015) the refrigerator side started freezing our food, milk and tea gallon jugs frozen solid. Went down a self fix list on an appliance parts website using our fridge symptoms, said it was probably the bimetal defrost thermostat. Replaced that part. It didn't fix it.
So I did my own troubleshooting and found the cold air was continuing to push from freezer into fridge area, found this cheaply made plastic damper broke and stuck open. Now that part will cost another $50+. Whirlpool knows about these cheaply made parts they have put in these appliances. You can't even get to this part without taking things apart. This is a cheap manufacturer's plastic part and Whirlpool knows it. It's not the consumer's fault.
It was a joke when we received an extended warranty offer from Whirlpool for just $208 per year or $626 for 5 years - I wouldn't spend another dime with Whirlpool. The price is high because they know how many parts are breaking on these units. You shouldn't have any repairs for 10 years on a refrigerator. We are stuck with a lot of Whirlpool products now, but we are done with this brand. Don't waste your money.

Bought a Whirlpool Gold stainless steel refrigerator and the thermostat didn't work after a couple months of use. Lost all the product in the refrigerator and freezer and whirlpool would not compensate us. They did pay for the $29 part because it was under warranty but still think it was completely their fault for putting a defective thermostat in it. Last night the relay on the circuit breaker stopped working and I again lost all my refrigerated food overnight. This time it is not under warranty because the warranty was only good for one year. So, I just paid $314.03 to have it repaired. So angry that I spent so much money on 4 Whirlpool Gold products when I remodeled my kitchen.

Refrigerator was purchased in March 2015. Icemaker filled the basket two times then never worked properly again. The water would enter the tray, freeze, but never drop the cubes. In order to drop the cubes, we had to unplug the refrigerator for a moment then we would have those few cubes. We used one service company sent by Whirlpool that came 3 times, adjusted temp, and replaced one electrical part. It didn't work. The repairman was going to call for support from Whirlpool to see if anyone else had had this problem. I didn't hear back from him until I called him 1 1/2 weeks later. He basically said there was nothing else he could do. Whirlpool sent out another service company. He replaced 2 electrical parts. They didn't work.
We have no choice but to keep having service men come out and try to repair the refrigerator. What happens when the warranty has expired? They are trying to sell me an extended warranty. Give me a break. It would be nice to have a working refrigerator first. I wish I would have read these reviews before I ever bought a Whirlpool. I'm 78 and I'm still learning. Never again, Whirlpool. I'll spread the news as well because we all work too hard for our money to throw it away on poor products.

I am very impressed with Whirlpool. After seeing my review, they contacted me and offered to send the parts to fix the problem with the LED lights. They sent a Whirlpool authorized repairman to my home with the understanding that since the refrigerator is out of warranty, I would have to pay him. Whirlpool also asked me to return the faulty part so they can research the problem. We are once again happy owners of Whirlpool products. Thank you Whirlpool!

Updated on 09/07/2019: I contacted Whirlpool and they were nice enough to send us the parts to have it fixed and I paid a Whirlpool authorized repair man to come and repair it. Yesterday the light started flashing again, September 2019. I am so disappointed to purchase a whirlpool refrigerator that has major problems and it isn’t quite six years old yet.
Original Review: We have always purchased Whirlpool appliances and have always been extremely happy. I never dreamed when I bought our new refrigerator in November 2013 that 20 months later there would be such a huge problem. I loved this refrigerator from the start, everything about it. My appliances are the color "Biscuit" and there are only a limited number of models available in this color. The LED lights started flashing in the freezer and refrigerator at the same time. We called a serviceman and he checked it out and gave us the bad news that it would be $450 to repair the problem. He also said these parts were on back order indicating we aren't the only ones having this problem. We called Whirlpool to see if there was a recall and were told no and there's nothing they can offer. Very disappointed in Whirlpool's customer service and products! We now have a disco refrigerator.

My Whirpool refrigerator model # WRF990SLAM01 was 14 months old (2 months past the new product warranty) when we started having issues with multiple areas. The ice machine stopped making ice and started dripping from the dispenser and the freezer stopped freezing food. I called and was told to purchase an extended warranty which cost me $375.00. The service tech has been to my house 12 times over the last 9 months. They have replaced multiple parts and even started replacing parts a second time. I was instructed by the service tech to call and request a replacement fridge.
Whirlpool customer service told me that it would have to be considered a "lemon" before they replaced the product. I was told that would require each component to be replaced 3 times. I would need to take off work 27 more times for the repairs!!! The service tech came out one more time and he said there was nothing else he could do. I called again to complain and even wrote to Whirlpool corporation (though they never called me back at my request). After much complaining, which I do not normally do, they have decided to replace the unit. BUT I have to pay and additional $476.29 for them to replace this unit!!! I feel like I was totally raked over the coals from this company. I will never buy another Whirlpool product again and I recommend you do not either.

I purchased a Whirlpool French door refrigerator (model #WRF736SDAW12) with the bottom freezer last year. From the day it was delivered, it's been broken. It was pouring so much water from the top panel, it would run over the top shelf and fill the shelves below. This was not a small drip. From the beginning, I was calling and requesting a new refrigerator this one was obviously defective. Whirlpool insisted on sending repairmen over and over and over again. I kept calling. I did not want this refrigerator. What if they finally fix the water problem and down the road, it has an electrical problem because of the amount of water it was internally leaking? Well, guess what? Not even twelve months in, there's an ELECTRICAL FIRE in the refrigerator! Thank goodness it was contained within a metal box within the fridge. It otherwise could have burned my house down. The refrigerator has finally been deemed irreparable.
So for almost $300, Whirlpool will send a new refrigerator. Am I crazy? They're going to charge me more money? It's for depreciation, they said. I've used the refrigerator for a year. I said it was broken when it was delivered. I requested a new one then. They're the ones who kept replacing parts. Now I'm supposed to pay more money for a product that I paid full price for? I was told I have 14 days to accept their offer. WORST \customer experience\ EVER! That’s what their customer service line is called – customer experience line. Sheesh!

After having the ice maker replaced on our 14-month old Whirlpool refrigerator, things seemed to be working fine for a while. However, now there are puddles appearing on the floor in front of the refrigerator. This is a freezer-on-the-bottom model and the ice maker is at the top so I was fairly certain it has nothing to do with the ice maker. Turns out there is something dripping into the back of the freezer and over time it builds up a giant ice sheet on the bottom of the freezer compartment. When the ice sheet gets large enough, the dripping water flows out onto the floor. Now I'm going in every couple of weeks and chipping the big ice sheet off the bottom so it will stop leaking for several weeks. When I see puddles in front of our refrigerator I know it's time to go chip the ice sheet out again. Seriously, I don't think I've ever had a brand new, and expensive, appliance perform so badly. I purchased the extended warranty after a year and in addition to the above, had a new ice maker replaced, and a part in the freezer as the freezer wasn't freezing. So I called them to replace the drawer plastic track again and they say that it's a cosmetic problem and they won't cover it. Are you kidding me??? It holds the drawers in for crying out loud!
Also told the repairman that the ice gets clogged in the dispenser and either 1) melts all over the place or 2) comes pouring out when you open the doors. We bought a complete set of Whirlpool Appliances three years ago. The set we bought were in the upper price range. In the past three years: The freezer began forming ice on the bottom which melted and poured water all over the floor (a unit on the freezer had to be replaced 18 months ago). An element on the stove quit working and had to be replaced (12 months ago). The ice maker quit working and had to be completely replaced (9 months ago). The dishwasher quit working and the entire motor had to be replaced (3 months ago). The ice maker quit working again four days ago. The repair person who just came said the entire unit needed to be replaced, AGAIN. He said the warranty on the part is only 6 months.
I called Whirlpool itself - their warranty is only 1 year. The fact that their warranties are so short, and there are so many problems with their products is evidence that they do not make products to actually work. They simply make them to sell. They do not care if the product works once the consumer has paid for it. This was obvious in my conversation with the Whirlpool service person. She took 10 minutes to gather all my personal information then took 10 seconds to tell me there was nothing they would do.

After months of careful research and comparison, I finally bought a pricey (over $2K) Whirlpool refrigerator with a bottom freezer and French doors with water dispenser on top. I really did not want any fancy features, just narrow doors because of my small kitchen, and a fridge on top because of my back pain. Since the date of purchase in May, 2014, I have had 4 service calls.
The first was covered under warranty, but no cause of the sheet of ice collection and underside water leakage was identified; I did, however, receive a somewhat patronizing lecture on the importance of thorough reading and comprehension of the owner's manual, and a statement that most of my service calls are for customer education.
A follow-up service call, a few weeks later and also covered under warranty, identified the cause of the ice collection and water leakage: a faulty "duck bill" little piece of plastic in the drainage system that is a problem well known to Whirlpool. In mid-June of 2015, the ice maker had to be replaced, to the tune of $360.00. Today, I had a service call ($103.00) and received an estimate of $405.50 to replace the broken freezer drawer slides, which prevent the freezer drawer from fully closing.
I will be applying that $405.50 to the purchase of the simplest model, non-Whirlpool refrigerator available, and have the Whirlpool hauled away. Besides the problems noted above, the center of the refrigerator freezes the food, while the freezer compartment arbitrarily defrosts. There are alarm icons that go from blue to red to alert you of the need to replace the (expensive) ice and water filter, refrigerator air filter and crisper freshener. Alarm bells ring to inform you that the doors have been open too long, but nothing alerts you to the fact that the freezer door is not completely shut, or that the freezer has gone into defrost mode because someone inadvertently brushed up against the control panel and changed the settings, or that water is pouring freely out from underneath the appliance.
I have had to change my buying habits because fridge holds at least 15% less food, even though it is the same cubic footage as my previous (top freezer) one. Freezer contents easily slip down behind the top freezer drawer and jam the door open. I have to take most frozen boxed items out of their original containers and pack them flat in freezer bags to get enough storage. Some tall bottles do not fit anywhere in the refrigerator compartment, and have to get put in sideways. Even in the absence of mechanical problems, using this refrigerator is like packing and unpacking a suitcase many times a day.
While Whirlpool customer service personnel were not overtly rude, there were dismissive and condescending overtones in some of the questions and directives I received from them, and another insinuation that service calls would not be covered under warranty if they end up being for the purpose of customer education. The extended wait (7+ days) for appointments with a Whirlpool-certified appliance repair company, along with the customer education exclusion, were absolute deterrents to the purchase of the extended warranty. Besides my personal disappointment and disgust with the purchase of this appliance, I am sad to see that the Whirlpool brand has slipped so far in product design, quality and customer support.

As a result of inaccurate information contained within Whirlpool's publicly available literature, we were presented with an unexpected and unwarranted problem. At time of purchase, Best Buy furnished a copy of installation dimensions which showed a width of 12 and 9/16. We were puzzled that a 15 inch wine cooler only required a cavity of 12 & 9/16. All of our kitchen appliances were designed to be "built in" so this was a critical measurement. In July 2015 before the enclosure was built, my wife after researching various websites selling the same 15" wine cooler called Whirlpool customer service and asked the question regarding the dimensions. Whoever she spoke with which was a lady, reiterated that those 12 & 9/16" measurements were accurate.
Since we got reassurance from Whirlpool we continued building our project expecting the wine cooler would be delivered soon. You see, we were told by Best Buy it was on back order and could not be delivered together with the rest of our appliance order. Best Buy suggested we try and find it elsewhere and we did at ABT, so we cancelled the original purchase of the cooler from BB and purchased the cooler from ABT. We were against a timeline and needed it ASAP.
Having been reassured by Whirlpool customer service, we allowed the contractor to finish building the wall that would enclose the cooler. The cooler arrived after the enclosure was completed and to our detriment was almost 3" too wide to fit into the already made cavity. We are very angry at Whirlpool for allowing this misinformation to have existed in the first place and exasperating matters by reassuring us it was alright to proceed. It is interesting that the inaccurate information that existed everywhere we looked online and in our very own owner's manual received with appliance, has now been updated everywhere to show a correct width of 15".
I can only surmise that this measurement inaccuracy might have had something to do with the back order issue we had with Best Buy and why we happened to find one in stock at ABT. As a matter of fact, ABT was the only online vendor we found that had it available for immediate delivery. There certainly must have been other complaints and or Whirlpool realized the error and held up deliveries until the owner's manual was updated. Either way, we suffered the consequences.
As I mentioned, I have the old version of Whirlpool's manual that arrived with the cooler August 11, 2015 and that matches what Best Buy gave to us months earlier. I am sure Whirlpool knows about this error because updated dimensions are all one can find now on the internet including at Whirlpool customer service as I was told by them thereafter. You see, customer service sees no problem now because they are looking at very recently updated information. Furthermore, Whirlpool repeatedly denies wrongdoing and refuses to accept responsibility for this error. They are blatantly lying to me even though my delivered wine cooler arrived with "THE WRONG MEASUREMENTS" depicted in the owner's manual.
Whirlpool use to be known for its dependability, value and reliability, clearly that is no longer the case. As far as customer service is concerned, they score a BIG ZERO! I will begin a campaign now on every available consumer format that exists which is something I warned Whirlpool I would do. To those of you that are considering any Whirlpool product beware. In particular if at some point your situation will require assistance from their customer service department. You see, you will not receive any help.

It has worked great until this past April when the freezer began to overfreeze, cause frost and ice to build up. I have had Whirlpool Factory Service out to repair the unit twice a month since April with still no resolution and the appointments are getting harder and harder to get someone to come out in a timely fashion. I called on September 1st and the closet appointment is September 15th. They weren't even able to book the appointment when I called. I was told someone would call back within 3/4 days. When I didn't hear back today, I called to find out an appointment was set.
I've called the Resolution Team to obtain back records of service but haven't been successful in receiving a phone call or email. I haven't received all of the follow up emails after service which is frustrating since there have been two technicians that have come out for repair and were not provided any history on the unit. If I had the follow up emails, I would be able to share that information with them.
I contacted Customer Service to find out what I can do in regards to the issue I am having and was told it's best to stay with the service provider that I began with since they are familiar with the issue. I would imagine if they are familiar with the issue that it should have been fixed by now. I've also sent a response card back to Whirlpool Home Appliances at the Survey Response Center and haven't heard anything from them either. When I called to follow up there wasn't anyone that could point me in the right direction to obtain answers.
They were able to provide me with the mailing address for Consumer Affairs though. I've been told numerous times that if it gets to a point it costs too much to fix they will replace the unit. I'm not sure when that decision is made. I have an extended contract and will extend it again in October when it expires. I just want the unit fixed or replaced. It's been since April with the same issue. Very disappointed consumer.

We called another company (SoBellas) that charged us $85 to tell us that it is the seal system which should be covered up to 5 years by Whirlpool. The man showed me the Whirlpool refrigerator warranty on Google which states the sealed refrigeration parts are covered up to 5 years. There was no specific model numbers listed which gave me the impression this was a standard warranty for all Whirlpool refrigerators.
I explained the situation to Whirlpool customer service including the 5 year warranty that is found on Google for everyone to see. I was told that our refrigerator model number did not qualify for that specific warranty. We ended up having to buy extended warranty for $350 on top of the $85 we already spent. This started July 24, we had to wait until August 10 for Whirlpool's warranty company to see us. They checked it and said they had to order parts but he supposedly tweaked it to make our fridge run better.... It made it worse and it ended up completely breaking down. We had to buy ice chest and waited until Thursday August 27th for them to finally come back with parts and fix the refrigerator. I took time off from work once again due to our time slot being between 3 and 5 but the guy didn't even show up until 7:30. I could have worked my normal hours instead of taking more time off!
The guy never once called to inform us that he was running late. We kept calling the company to make sure we weren't forgotten. The guy told us that everything should be working within 20 hours or so, by Friday our freezer was still not working and no ice either, back to square one! I called Whirlpool customer service once again to explain the situation, nothing could be done. The next available time for them to come back out is September 17 for them to come look at our refrigerator. We have been stuck without ice and a freezer, buying food every other day waiting for our brand new, horrible Whirlpool refrigerator to be fixed. Will never ever buy Whirlpool brand again! Actually, we purchased all brand new Whirlpool appliances... Good luck to us!!!!!

I never knew an appliance could be manufactured as poorly as my brand-new, expensive, side-by-side whirlpool refrigerator. Within the first year, the icemaker line malfunction because of a fan problem, causing the line to freeze, break, and leak water everywhere. The ice maker stopped working. Everything on the top shelf In the refrigerator freezes. Everything on the bottom shelf stays warm. The motor is so loud and can be heard of rooms away. It is less than two years old now, and I am sincerely considering buying a new refrigerator altogether.

Problem of refrigerator is working good for a few days, then the freezer is all melted down for a few days, then back to working good again. Model: FD2560HES. Serviced on and by: 7/16/2015 - ** - told me the controller board is bad, need to order part. 7/23/2015 - ** - replaced the controller board. Resulting same problem. NOTE, which means my old controller board is as good as the new one. 7/30/2015 - ** - opened the freezer, back of refrigerator, told me the compressor is no good, gave me an estimate of total cost $817.86. I did not accept the proposal, and I did not agree the compressor is no good. I called and scheduled for service after and scheduled to have service on 8/4/2015. Then got called from the office, said, "Can't come on 8/4/2015" and told me I have to pay the $95.00 first visit. So I called and spoke to the manager, then scheduled for next service.
8/13/2015 - ** - when he came, the refrigerator is working fine. He said, "Can't diagnosis the refrigerator," told me to call for service when it is not working. He said the compressor is good. 8/15/2015, early morning the freezer is all melted. I called, been told can't service the same day. 8/17/2015 I called the office (1-888-717-9322), requested to talk to the manager, promised to call me back. By this date 8/28/2015, still no call back from the manager. They are located in Michigan. I was told the local office address is: 9582 Katella Ave., Anaheim, CA 92804.

My refrigerator was purchased in May 2014, and died in August 2015. Before it died, it produced a very loud, rattling noise for two days. Thus, the refrigerator cost me $100/month. It does seem, upon reflection, I would have been better off buying a piece of junk for $50. It would have lasted longer. Additionally, the so-called stainless steel started rusting all over the front surface, first popping up in one spot, then another. One year old, rusty and dead. Great job Whirlpool. Buy American.

We purchased a new stainless steel Whirlpool refrigerator in February 2015. Within the first few days the fridge door handle broke off. Not that we have super human strength in our 60's but the handle connection is a very thin plastic. We put it down to the possibility that the warehouse or shippers may have banged it and perhaps we just didn't notice the initial crack. The handle was out of stock so it took 8 weeks before the new one arrived. This week the freezer door handle cracked! Same problem - cheap plastic handle connector doesn't withstand the vacuum seal. Whirlpool's handle connection to the door is comprised of a 1/8th inch thick by 1/4 inch square piece of brittle plastic. This is screwed onto the door. In reality this needs to be metal. Enough said… Check out the handle connection before you buy this appliance. You will wait months for replacement parts as they cannot seem to keep enough of them in stock.

Purchased a new home in Florida. Builder used Whirlpool appliances. For a year opening the refrigerator door has caused breakers to trip off. No matter what builder and Whirlpool do, breakers keep tripping. Cannot sell house with this issue. If someone was counting on electricity for a medical device they could die when refrigerator causes power to go out. Unfortunately, it looks like legal action is the only thing that will save our investment in the house.
