Our Whirlpool refrigerator was delivered July 27th, 2013 after waiting 6 weeks for it. I was getting something off the top shelf (side by side refrigerator) when a 2-liter plastic bottle fell and put a hole in the bottom shelf where it sticks out under the vegetable tray. I have had grandkids sometimes stand on that shelf of our other refrigerators without ever doing any damage to it. It makes me nervous of dropping something else. I would like to send a complaint directly to Whirlpool but don't know how to reach them.

My refrigerator will be 3 years old in September. It stopped working two months after my warranty ended, in November Thanksgiving Day. I was so thankful that I had snow on my deck to keep everything cold. I had several family members in my house and watching my husband defrost a frost-free frig? This was a nightmare. Then a few weeks later, my husband company refrigerators did the same thing: freeze up and stop working. He defrosted theirs as well.
I know that lots of consumers have had the same issue with any of the bottom freezer refrigerator doing the same thing. I think we, consumers, should make these company recall these lemons. Why should we have to pay more and buy more our parents had their appliances last for years. He had done this approximately 3 times since my warranty ended in September of last year. The problem is the food goes bad, the freezer ices up, causing the refrigerator to ice up and stop the air flow.
I contacted the company and this is what they told me: I had to pay $295.12 to get the repair completed. It was the DEF control board. I guess others have the compressor go out and that cost over $600 to fix. Why is it our fault as a consumer buying their products promised and concern for 1 year, not 10 years. It is no wonder why America is broke? My question to the Whirlpool was, how on earth can this be the consumer's fault? Here is their reply:
"According to the model and serial number provided, we do not indicate that there are any known recalls with this particular model. A recall requires that a product poses a threat to a person's life or health. Since this is not the case in this instance, we do not have a recall. Once a product warranty has expired, any costs for maintenance, service, or component replacements are then within the owner's time frame of responsibility. Taking this into consideration, I regret to inform you that due to the age of the product, we will be unable to assist with the cost of the repair. If you have purchased an extended warranty, we would recommend contacting your extended warranty provider directly to discuss the options they provide."
Oh, they sent me a postcard asking if the repair service I received was good... Yes, the company who came out did a fantastic job. I think I may have to call them back; it is acting up again. I have 90 day warranty....

Same problem a lot of people have written about in your forum. Purchased a double door stainless steel refrigerator, bottom freezer, # GX2SHBXVY from Sears Canada on 12/17/2011. Warranty expired December 2012. Now we have ice forming on the floor under the bottom freezer though water hasn't seeped out as we are now cleaning it daily. Sears wants to charge $75 per hour + parts as there is no extended warranty. Whirlpool says it's a common problem with most other Competitor models too. REALLY, IT'S NOT. Have checked with a lot of friends of mine with similar models. Nobody is having a problem with especially units hardly one and a half years old. My bro-in-law also bought a Whirlpool a year prior to mine. He is having no problems. See no reason to spend $300-$400 on a comparatively new unit. Also have a 7-month-old stainless steel Whirlpool dishwasher and 4-year-old Gold Accura cooking range. Now spend morning and nights looking at them wondering when they are gonna blow. Need to replace my washer/dryer too but guess which brand I am not opting for.

I have a Whirlpool french door unit with ice & water through the freezer door. I recently noticed rust in the ice. When the extended service plans tech came to see it he told me that the ice bucket would have to be ordered. Almost a month later, I called him and was told that rust isn't covered. I understand that surface or cosmetic rust shouldn't be covered, but rust in a place where it can be ingested is different. Anyway, I called Whirlpool directly and a very nice phone rep agreed with me and asked her supervisor. Needless to say, I just sent Whirlpool a letter stating that I would pursue this through legal channels if I don't get satisfaction.

Bought a $2500.00 fridge in Dec. 2012. By July, we were dealing with our 4th repair. Customer service in warranty department is non-existent. They act like you are a bother and have no right to demand replacement. I sent an email. No response. I wrote a letter to Corporate. No response. Not until I made comments on Facebook. Then I get a call offering me an extended warranty (which I already had purchased) so they said they would give another year (total of 3). This was a few weeks ago. I still have yet to receive anything or hear anything. This morning, our fridge is on the fritz again.
I am loathe to have to deal with them again, but have no choice. It's either deal with them or throw out the 8 month old unit and buy something else. I should not even have to consider that. Whirlpool is a huge company. I do not understand their reluctance to just replace a product that is obviously defective unless they have no confidence in a replacement unit. This is so frustrating and upsetting to me. I did my research. I thought I was getting a quality product from a quality company. What a disappointment.

Whirlpool Gold French Door refrigerator freezer on bottom - I purchased my refrigerator at Lowe’s on 9/26/12 and it cooled OK for the first 3-4 months but it was very noisy along with water dripping from the ice maker door. Then sometime in Feb. my freezer started to warm so I contacted Lowe’s service and they scheduled Tech. to come the following week. He found that freezer evaporator was freezing - suspected a leak and ordered one. Replaced that, and a short time later it was warm again. To make a long story short they have been to my house approx a dozen times replacing the freezer evaporator, control boards, adding refrigerate, and replace the reversing valve, and no time at all it was warm in the freezer again.
Tech could not find anything wrong with it and added a little refrigerate and the problem was solved... I thought! Two months later the freezer was warming again. Now they say it’s the evaporator on the cold food side has a leak and needs replacing. Been waiting two weeks now on parts. Talked with Whirlpool and Lowe’s about replacement with a new unit but they tell me they only cover parts and labor. Needless to say this is my last Whirlpool appliance!!

Our 2 yr old Whirlpool Gold refrigerator (French doors, bottom freezer) stopping freezing/cooling. When we got a repairman to come take a look at it, he said the compressor is not working. The warranty on the fridge is only 1 year. However, the compressor is the main component of a refrigerator, and the repairman said 5-6 years is the minimum it should last before breaking. I called Whirlpool and asked them to pay for the repairs of what is quite obviously a defective part. They refused. Needless to say, I will never, ever buy another Whirlpool product again.

We purchased a brand new Whirlpool refrigerator in December 2012. It is model # WRF989BAM, a French door style with the freezer in the bottom. We have had problems with this refrigerator since a few days after it arrived. The first occurrence was when we arrived home one evening to find water all over the floor, and food thawing out inside the freezer. Everything had to be thrown out or placed in a different refrigerator.
I have no idea what that repairman did, but luckily that issue hasn't happened since. Something about the temperature controls. We have also had frost on the back inside panel, and it leaks inside the refrigerator constantly, so bad that we have to keep a large bowl inside to collect the water, and it has to be emptied two or three times a day. We have had two repairmen out to look at that. The first one installed a new filter, which seemed to fix the problem...for about a month until it started leaking again.
They tell us these filters must be replaced every 3-6 months...interesting as it says on the refrigerator every 6 months. Regardless, we can't get a filter, or any other parts that the repairmen "think" it might need because parts take months to arrive. We bought this refrigerator under the recommendation of a technician who came out to repair the refrigerator we were replacing. "Buy American" he said. They last longer and the parts are easy to get. What a joke!

Since July 9, I have been trying to get my replacement from Whirlpool and always told they will call me 24-48 hours - never calls. Asked for supervisor on July 22, then asked for her name and direct number. Supervisor said someone would call me about delivery. Supervisor told me if a local store would have had in stock, they would have sent it out from there (called local store and was told 6 were in stock and could be delivered tomorrow). Tried to call supervisor back to inform her, but number would not go through (apparently bogus number). As of July 22, 2013, still no refrigerator. Very poor customer service/service repair. July 24 - asked if I needed to get an attorney and/or contact local new consumer advocate - Whirlpool said they would issue a refund check for the refrigerator, and that I should receive it in 14-21 business days - said they could not refund on credit card I used to make original purchase. Hopefully, the check will arrive.

We purchased 29.7 cu. ft. side by side in February 2013. Ever since we got it, there is an excessive amount of moisture that builds up in the refrigerator section. It is to the point that the bottom shelf must be dried every other day; otherwise water spills out the front. Most of the moisture forms around the cold air duct work leading in from the freezer. We placed collection containers under the duct work which helped a little. We also tried various temperature settings, still no help. We tried online support and were given many excuses for the excess moisture. Support advised to change the defrost cycle, which we did and failed to correct problem. Support finally threw up their hands and said to call for service. Unfortunately, we were advised since the unit was purchased in Florida and shipped out of the country, the warranty was void. Try and get service in the Bahamas! Ha! This will be the last Whirlpool product we will ever buy.

I've owned this Whirlpool, bottom freezer refrigerator for two and a half years now. About a year ago I began to notice water on the floor in front of it. I had the ice maker hooked up, which I never used, so I disconnected that. The problem continued. I discovered that the bottom of the freezer compartment would fill with ice and once full the next dose of water would flood the surrounding floor. I have cleared the ice out, on a weekly basis, but have still had the water flow onto my floor. It's a daily thing now as I've gotten tired of pulling the unit out and removing the ice build-up on a weekly basis. My replacement refrigerator will not likely be a Whirlpool of any model.

It has been since June 13th and my $7000 48" refrigerator that is under warranty has yet to be repaired. When the refrigerator was first diagnosed I was told it would take 2-4 Weeks for the Circuit board to be rebuilt, which was not under warranty. Of course they charge you for that at the time of your agreement. Their Sealed system issue was under warranty. I have been checking with the Local repair service Active Appliance once a week to at least get an Update. They are terrible - would not recommend to anyone. So last week on July 11th I contacted Whirlpool directly so they could find out what the hold up is. After a long on hold wait I was told that the Circuit board would be at the shop in a few days and repair should be this week.
Yesterday Monday the 15th, I was finally contacted by Active the repair service only to be told my Appointment for Repair could be set up on the First available day Friday July 26th - another 11 days or in total 44 Days to wait on a repair. I'm very frustrated. I bought a Whirlpool Refrigerator for nearly $1300 in Sept. '11. It is a side-by-side Model #ED5KVEXVL00. The refrigerator side started warming up to the point that we noticed. We put a thermometer inside to confirm; it went up to nearly 60 degrees. We tried cleaning any dust underneath from the coils and even unplugged it for a while. The compressor appears to be the potential problem. Sears is not sending a repair guy for 2 WEEKS (It is a hot July here in NY)!!!!
We are saddened that Whirlpool says it is out of the one-year warranty - so now we are facing the choice of a large repair bill or buying a new refrigerator. What a waste of money... It's not even 2 years and it needs service or a dumpster. Shame on Whirlpool for not standing up for customers when clearly there is something wrong with this machine so close to the warranty and so new. I purchased a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side Refrigerator on June 15, 2013. The freezer works fine but the refrigerator does not feel that cold and when I put a thermometer in there, it reads 42-43 deg although the refrigerator is set at 37 deg. The tech was just here and told me to put a thermometer in a glass of water and read it again. His thermometer read 46 deg when reading a bottle in the door although he explained that he had had the door opened for a while during his visit. He said his reading of the bottle upon opening the door was 36 deg. I do not believe that.
I just measured some bottled water temperature and it was 48 deg. I have a hard time believing the temp went up 12 degrees and he has been gone for a half hour. My food is cold but not like you expect from a refrigerator. My bottled water and soda, etc., are not very cold. The worst is the water dispenser. That water is barely cooler than tap water. There is almost no difference. The water temperature has been in the 60s when I've measured it. The tech says the first glass won't be cold (have never had that with any other refrigerator) but even if you get the second and third glasses of water, they aren't any colder... maybe a couple of degrees. If anyone else is having this problem and Whirlpool will do nothing, then I'm interested in legal action.

I am excited that I found this site, putting it in Favorites! Using the advice from ConsumerReports, we purchased a Whirlpool Gold French door refrigerator model GI 6SDRXXY02. We were looking forward to the energy efficiency reported. I blamed the kids and my husband when the water started appearing on the floor by the refrigerator. After a while, I started investigating and I saw the sheets of ice that had formed in the bottom of the freezer. Several times, I removed the ice, only for it to form and start leaking on the floor weeks later. We discovered the drain was frozen and that during the defrost mode, water would freeze in the bottom, and once the ice was too high, the water would flow over the ice onto the floor. My husband has unloaded the freezer and defrosted the drain with a hair dryer several times. So sick of this!! We never received a recall notice and of course, the warranty is out. I wish we hadn't paid so much for this refrigerator. It would have been out by the curb months ago. We are in the middle of a kitchen remodel and getting new cabinets. I will have to dispose of this expensive refrigerator. UGH, money down the drain!! We won't buy a Whirlpool!!!

I have replaced the temp control thermostat and I am waiting to see if this fixes the problem. I have researched and checked the other possible problems and it is unlikely that it is a defrost fail as there is no frost build-up in the freezer section. And, I checked the heater element and there is continuity through the element. If this does not fix the problem, I believe that there is one other possible solution. I don't have $300.00 to give to an appliance repairman. Maybe I should give it a rap on the side as one other customer said a repair person did to make it work for a few more weeks.

Own Whirlpool GB2FHDXWS04 refrigerator for 14 months. From the beginning, the ice maker made gross tasting ice and never got better (had to start buying ice). Then a smell started coming from the fridge every time the fan came on. We called before the warranty was up and talked to Whirlpool, and they said that we must have put something smelly in the fridge that caused the plastic to absorb the smell (which we didn't). They told us to put baking soda in and change it everyday. No change. They kept telling us there is no way it could be giving off a smell for any other reason and if they sent a tech out, we would have to pay for it. Trying to intimidate us until the warranty was up.
Then after a month or so, the bottom mount freezer starts leaking water all over the wood floors every 3 days. At first we turned off the water line, but then realized it is coming when the freezer defrosts. One good thing, the freezer, from the beginning, knocked really loud and now that it's leaking it doesn't knock. We spent $1,200 just over a year ago and will probably have to go purchase a new one now. I will tell you it will never be another Whirlpool product. Whirlpool has not apologized or done anything but say, "Now your warranty is up, you should have bought the extended warranty." Great customer care! We haven't moved into our home yet, but turned the refrig on the next weekend after closing, started painting rooms, even had some nice ice water. I came back next day to a very large amount of water all over my hardwood floors. We are talking bath towels. Who would know you are supposed to call Whirlpool directly? We sure didn't. We called Hart Appliances, where we purchased it from. They gave us a number to call for service on Monday. I won't dare go away for a weekend without fear it will leak all over my floors and ruin them. We were going to purchase a chest freezer and small full fridge for drinks and overflow to keep in the garage. Instead, that's where this fridge will end up. Expensive lesson learned. We bought a Whirlpool refrigerator, model ED5LVAXWSOO. Although we didn't need or want the ice/cold water dispenser, we bought the model anyway. We have never hooked up nor used the ice maker/water dispenser. As the refrigerator was powering up upon its initial start-up after delivery, we found that condensation was leaking from the ice maker on the door. Upon closer inspection, we found that the "hatch cover" was not sealed and actually jiggled around when the door was opened or closed.
A service man came, had difficulty with the issue, but eventually said he fixed it. It didn't leak again for almost three years. Then the exact same problem. (Remember, the component is still neither hooked up nor used.) Apparently, the opening and closing of the doors eventually caused the same defect to reappear. Of course, since the warranty has expired, Whirlpool sees no obligation on their part. But the value of a product is not based on a limited-time warranty, but on how the product holds up. This has to be a manufacturing or design defect as it came from the factory broken, and eventually the same problem re-appeared even though there was no wear and tear on the component, as it is not used. These products are much too expensive to begin failing after a few years.
I would caution buyers based on the product being delivered broken (where's their quality control?), its lack of durability even when not being used, and the Company's disavowal of any responsibility beyond the limited warranty period, even though it is a recurrence of the original problem (which to me means that it wasn't properly repaired/corrected during the service visit). Whirlpool eagerly grabbed our hard-earned money, but delivered an inferior product made worse, in turn, by its sub-standard service and lack of accountability.

I should have known at that point - they had over 20 in stock instead of "making it to order with a several week wait" as the rep expected. I complained again (out of warranty for the refrigerator, but less than a year for the replacement door) and was given the "too bad, so sad - next question" routine. Now the freezer won't hold frozen food. If I turn up the dial, I end up with frozen lettuce, etc. So much for Whirlpool! I'm not so much angry at this point as I am "talky" - at the grocery store to perfect strangers, at church, etc. I'm disappointed that Consumers didn't respond - they still rate Whirlpool fairly high - makes me doubt Consumers, too.

Approximately 2 years after purchasing a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side/counter depth refrigerator, I noticed cracks on the interior walls. This was in 2011. First, I contacted the service contract people. They told me this was not covered under the policy. Next, I wrote & called the company. They told me they could send someone out to "EPOXY" the walls. I told them this was not at all acceptable to me and that I believe this is a defective product. I have never heard of this happening to a refrigerator. I am also quite concerned that there are toxins emitted through these cracks. After a time with no response, I wrote them again.
This time, they referred me to Ms. Alicia ** at the Exec. Offices. She wrote asking me to call her. After making several calls & leaving messages to no avail, I wrote her asking that she kindly write back to inform me what the company was going to do about this defective product. I can't help thinking they did not want to commit to anything in a letter because I never heard from her or anyone else at Whirlpool. Small Claims Court cannot help as the company does not have an office in New York. I am very worried about the possible health hazard this possesses. I am very careful to completely cover all food inside the refrigerator. At this point, the cracks have increased in size and new ones have appeared. I am very upset over the lack of concern and lack of response from Whirlpool.
I've owned many Whirlpool appliances through the years and trusted the brand. This is not a cheap appliance. Consumers don't expect to spend a few thousand dollars on a product just to dump it in a year or two. Given the size of the Whirlpool Corp., anyone would think they would simply replace their defective product to keep their reputation if not for the health concern of their customers, which should be a priority. Over the past few years, I have had increased respiratory problems and so have other family members. I believe it's due to the emissions from the cracks. I will have to dump this defective refrigerator before it gives me cancer! Thanks Whirlpool, great doing business with you.

I called corporate to ask them to stand by their product and ask them at what point they would just replace the whole fridge! The girl I spoke to never once said, "I'm sorry for your inconvenience"! Whirlpool fridge still freezes water in the bottom of freezer... after five service attempts. We purchased a five-year warranty and so far, they claim that as long as the warranty is good, they will continue to warranty it. We now have three and a half years left.
We have currently owned our refrigerator for just over a year (approx. 18 months). During this time, it has had the same warranty repair issue that has been serviced five times so far. We now have an appointment for a sixth time since RC Willey does not want to fix a lemon the right way. The first three warranty repairs were under the manufacturer's warranty. We are now under a warranty (extended) that was purchased from the place we bought the fridge from, RC Willey.
I want my money back on the whole deal. I was going to be civilized about it because I thought they were common sense decent place to buy from. I thought they would, through common sense, realize that this unit is a lemon and allow credit towards another fridge. In just the past two years, we have bought from RC Willey over $10,000 worth of flooring, appliances, etc. and that's not counting previous years.

The repair person is now here and replacing the control board. This piece alone is costing me $184.12. Then the labor hours and service call. The plastic frames for the glass shelves are cracking at the corners and the only option Whirlpool has given me is to replace the shelves at about $150 each. Needless to say, the cracks started just after the 1-year warranty expired. If only one shelf was cracking, it could be my fault; but since all are cracking (some on the front, some on the back and some in multiple places), I believe this is a design flaw and should be covered by the manufacturer. When I call, I can only get through to someone to schedule maintenance or order parts. What can I do?

We bought a brand new basic refrigerator, freezer on top, no frills, no ice maker, no water dispenser (model #WRT359SFYB) in Dec. 2011. For months, things on the bottom shelf of the fridge would freeze. The more we turn the control dial down, the more things would freeze. Finally, everything stopped freezing, including everything in the freezer. After having to throw everything out, we called for service. One year and 4 months out from our purchase date and without an extended warranty, we were offered no help. The repairman said that we had a leak as a result of poor manufacturing and there was no refrigerant left. He filled it but said he needed to check with Whirlpool to see if they would cover the repairs. It turns out they won't.
I called them myself and spoke with a manager who offered no options at all, other than paying more than the price of the fridge to have it repaired. I asked if they were okay with their product having such a short life, filling landfills and causing such problems for their customers to which she replied that they are man-made and have no life expectancy. Crazy! For a manufacturer of large, costly appliances, one would think they would stand behind their product more. She also said that she would file my complaint and would have let me know if there was a recall on the fridge or any of its parts. It appears to me that others have had similar complaints. I wonder what warrants a recall. I will never buy Whirlpool again.

Cost for repairs would be more than half the purchase price and the wait for parts would be weeks. Contact to Whirlpool customer rep (Brittany) said no assistance was available, even for obviously a defective product. Solution: I had the store remove the defective appliance and purchased a new fridge (not Whirlpool) at about the same price it would have cost to repair the defective one. With delivery within 3 days, I likely saved time and money over dealing with Whirlpool. I had purchased a Whirlpool stove at the same time and am feeling quite anxious about it.
Consequences: I plan to purchase a washer/dryer in the next year. No Whirlpool products considered.

In 2006, I paid $1,300 for above fridge and bought extended warranty. Within a year, I had four service calls for condensation in bins that causes freezing of lunchmeat, veggies, etc. and anything put in them. The A&E service company said to use plastic bags and then said I should keep the bin drawers open at an inch so air could flow. Next call said vacuuming underneath would solve it. Final call said again to use bags and suggested modifying the fridge by making a hole in the sidewall (which would nullify the warranty).
Since I declined modifying the fridge, he contacted Whirlpool saying I declined service. I still have this problem, was going to call for service because I could really use the space the drawer provides but I have a feeling I will just be throwing money away. On 3/31/2012, we purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator (model #ED5FVGXWS07, serial #HR14602963) from the electronic appliance store called SuperCo, located at 17523 Colima Road, City of Industry, CA. Within around a month, we noticed that things kept in the refrigerator all showed weird phenomena; raw eggs were frozen inside the shells and ice is frozen on food and utensils stored, not in the freezer, but on the fridge side. At the same time, all food kept in the refrigerator turned bad easily, especially during summer time. Cooked food went bad and had a bad smell within just three days of being kept in the fridge. Also, the ventilator-like part on top of the fridge (the part which released cold air) had ice frozen around it from time to time.
Obviously, the fridge was not working, as the freezer was not cold enough and the side was either making food turn bad or causing ice to freeze on stuff kept inside. The temperature seemed to be extremely uneven inside. We then asked SuperCo for repairs or a replacement, but they refused and referred us back to the manufacturer, Whirlpool. Repair services have been called three times on 2012, according to the paperwork records I have: a) on 5/31/2012, bad damper was broken and replaced; b) on 6/7/2012, (according to paper records from SuperCo), replaced parts; and c) on 6/20/2012, turned ice maker off and cleaned (the hand writing was hard to read).
Then, around December of 2012, after the services, we experienced another great problem with this fridge again. When ice cream was kept in the freezer, they appear to have melted and my brother suffered from diarrhea after eating the ice cream. The ventilator-like part on top of the fridge still had ice frozen around it. We then took pictures as fresh vegetables kept at the bottom drawer of the fridge had ice frozen on it, too. I finally emailed Whirlpool through their official website on 2/7/2013 and asked for a new fridge replacement based on the Lemon Rule. An e-solutions specialist, Judy, replied that the product was warranted for a specified time period for repairs, not the replacement of the product, and Whirlpool declined my request for a replacement.
Repair service was then requested by me for the fourth time, through email. On 2/21/2013, this fourth repair company came and checked the fridge. After a detailed inspection, the technician concluded that some parts of the fridge needed to be replaced, one of the parts called the thermostat. Strangely, after he called his company, he changed all that he said before and claimed that the fridge was 100% working and that no repairs were needed at all. Even when we showed him the frozen vegetables from the fridge side that we got recently, he insisted that the fridge had no problems at all and left.
The way Whirlpool responded to my request was extremely disappointing, with their refusal to replace the fridge after three complete repair visits, and the fourth visit changing the inspection conclusion with no reason. Of course, the disappointment is greatest with the extremely bad quality of this electronic appliance. As of this moment, my fridge could still not keep food well and is causing us bad health. I think the only way I could go to now is to take action against the company for the lemon refrigerator, for breach of warranty, and maybe fraud.

The fridge is kept at number 1 of 5 for coldness. All foods are left on counter to cool, but three times over my Christmas holidays this year when I swore I would throw this fridge in the garbage - the drain froze, water all over the fridge, food having to be removed and placed in other people's fridges, blah blah. Now it did it again this weekend! There are only two living here. I work all day and no one even opens the fridge much and again this happened.
I'm really sad that such a faulty product (too much insulation hiding the drain pipe behind the fridge and it must be much too small in diameter; otherwise, it wouldn't freeze up). Talking about work. We have two fridges there with 50 people using them all day and they run perfectly for the last 8 years that I have been there. So I think it indicates that my fridge is faulty. I'm so sad too because I don't have the money for a new one. I just turned 65 and am about to retire (single mom). You would think that a $1,300 fridge would last longer than 6 years!

I did as suggested & they sent out their service co. tech, Turner Consumer Services. I had all the same issues as everyone else in these reviews. i.e., food freezing where it shouldn't or spoiling when the stat was turned down even one "notch". The staff at Whirlpool was as uncooperative as is possible. They "smiled" and lied to my face during phone calls - anything to get me off the phone.
During the next 4 months (till Nov.), techs came out 5 times, never having the part "needed" on the truck. Always, it was "my fault" somehow that my stuff was freezing. Their chosen "tech" service employees were rude, condescending and without knowledge. Five service calls, 3 parts replaced and numerous calls to Turner & Whirlpool got me nothing but stalling tactics. I, too, was told that their "tech" had to fail the appliance before they could consider replacement - all lies. The tech, when he gets here, says he's not allowed to fail the unit.
On the 11th of Nov., I awoke to totally frozen-up coils which kept the fridge box from cooling. We had company here from out of town. We moved out the new fridge, moved back in our 21-yr-old unit and got through till our visitors left. Whirlpool has been completely unresponsive to my appeals for some relief from this fiasco. We purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator from Conn's Appliances on 2/2/12. It worked fine until about 2 months ago. Then it started freezing food in the refrigerator. We called Conn's, and they sent a technician to replace the thermostat. A couple of days later, it was still freezing food. So we called Conn's again. They sent a second technician. He called Whirlpool tech support, and they told him to adjust the position of the thermostat sensor. A couple of more days went by, and food was still freezing. The problem had gotten even worse.
I called the manager at Conn's and suggested that we should consider replacement since the previous 2 technicians were unable to solve the problem. He sent a third technician. Tech #3 called Whirlpool tech support and re-adjusted the sensor. He said there wasn't a lot they could do and that if I wanted to get it replaced, I would need to call Whirlpool.
I called Whirlpool Customer Service and explained everything that had happened. They told me they would need to send another technician. I asked why, since 3 technicians had already looked at it. She said there were different levels of service and they would have to send someone from their authorized service company, as if Conn's is not authorized. I asked if this problem was common in this model of refrigerator. She said she could research that if I could hold, so I said ok. After being on hold for several minutes, she came back and said she couldn't find any record of this being a repetitive problem.
I didn't have a thermometer, and I thought if I had more concrete evidence of the problem, then maybe they would replace the refrigerator. So I put a glass of water in the middle of the top shelf. Within 24 hours, it was frozen solid as an ice cube!
Technician #4 came and called Whirlpool tech support. This time, they told him that this had been a problem ever since this model came out and they had a fix that had been on the books since day 1. So the customer service lady obviously lied to me. Technician #4 stuffed a piece of Styrofoam in the hole where the air comes from the freezer into the refrigerator and he re-adjusted the thermostat sensor. I asked if we could just replace the unit and be done with it, but he said we had to wait and see if his "fix" worked.
I went to Ace Hardware and bought a refrigerator thermometer. Two days later, we had frozen strawberries, frozen lettuce, frozen milk, and even the meat and cheese were freezing. My thermometer said temperature was 32 degrees. I called Whirlpool back and insisted that they replace the refrigerator. They told me "The unit was not authorized for replacement and they needed a 2nd opinion." I was very angry. I told them there had already been 4 opinions and a 5th wasn't necessary. I wasn't getting anywhere, so I asked for a supervisor. They transferred me to someone named Sue. Sue told me the same thing - not authorized, need a 2nd opinion. I told her that I work at The Men's Wearhouse and that if a customer spent that much money on a suit and had trouble with it, they certainly would not have to bring it back 5 times to have it re-tailored. I asked to speak to her supervisor. She said, "Sir, my supervisor doesn't speak to consumers." I could not believe my ears. Where would they be without consumers? I was so mad I hung up on her.
Later, I realized I had no options and called to request the "2nd opinion." I was told that the technician could authorize the unit for replacement. They also told me I couldn't get a technician for a week because their technicians were all booked up repairing their faulty products. I had no choice but to wait. I moved my thermometer to the bottom of the refrigerator to see if the temperature was the same there as on the top. The temperature there fluctuated between 28 and 34 degrees. I called Conn's to tell them the story, thinking maybe they would go to bat for one of their customers. They told me this should never have happened and that the matter should be escalated to their home office and that a manager would contact me within 30 minutes. He never called.
Two days after that phone call, I went to Conn's to speak to the manager. I told him the whole story and told him that if Whirlpool would not replace the refrigerator, then I would have no choice but to contact Discover (my payment method for the original purchase) and dispute the charges. I pointed out that even though it should be Whirlpool paying for it, his store would take the hit if Discover reversed the charges. He called someone and told me a Conn's service manager would contact me within 48 hours.
More waiting. Technician #5 came. I told him he was to authorize the unit for replacement. He said he couldn't do that and that Whirlpool tells all their customers that just to get them off the phone. He re-adjusted the temperature sensor and left. I was livid. Now the problem went the other way. The temperature wouldn't go below 50 degrees. We filled an ice chest with food and ice and began living out of it. The Conn's service manager called and said he would have to send a technician. This would be #6. I was very angry with the service manager and called Discover to dispute the charges. Discover opened an investigation, sent a letter to Conn's (and maybe Whirlpool, I'm not sure) and issued a credit to my credit card account.
#6 came and re-adjusted the thermostat sensor. The next morning, he called to see how it was doing. The temperature was still around 50 degrees. He wanted to come and adjust it again. I told him to get the unit replaced! So he submitted paperwork to request a replacement. He called back and said that he felt sorry for us because he knew we had a 3-month-old baby in the house. Since the replacement had been requested, Conn's wouldn't pay him to come again; but he said he would come on his own time, on his lunch break, and readjust the sensor in hopes that it would get us by while we waited for a replacement. He said it might take 3-4 days to get the replacement. I told him he could come, so this was technical visit #7. He adjusted the sensor. The next day, the temperature was still 50 degrees.
I called the service manager at Conn's to confirm that they had requested the replacement. He said the paperwork was submitted, that the home office would review it, make a decision, and that we should know something in "a couple of days." That was on Wednesday. On Monday afternoon, I called him again. He said the paperwork wasn't submitted to home office until Saturday and that he was expecting to hear from them by end of day Tuesday. In the meantime, we were still living out of an ice chest.
I had already determined that Whirlpool wasn't going to help me, and now, Conn's was giving me the runaround. That afternoon, I was working on a project at work with a lady who was fairly new in our company. Turns out she used to work at the Conn's home office and she knew people in high places there. She called a VP on my behalf. The next morning, I got a call from the VP telling me that I could get a replacement. I don't think I would have gotten my replacement if I hadn't bumped into the lady who used to work at Conn's.
I called Conn's store, and they said a credit had been issued and I could come to the store and pick out whatever I wanted up to the amount of the credit. I knew I didn't want another Whirlpool. The selection was very limited, but I found a Frigidaire that I thought might work. Then they told me I would have to pay extra for an ice maker, even though I had bought the ice maker for the Whirlpool that was being replaced. I argued with the manager until finally he agreed to give me the ice maker, delivery, and installation.
Yesterday, Conn's called to tell me they were coming in the afternoon to install the refrigerator. They had the audacity to ask me what was the matter with the unit they were replacing! They did come and replace the unit. But wait...That's not all! This morning, the ice maker had not made any ice, even after running all night long. Conn's sent a technician today, and he said all of the parts were not installed and it was preventing proper water flow. He is coming back on Tuesday to install the missing parts. So we still aren't done. I don't know if I'm more angry with Whirlpool or with Conn's. Whirlpool did not honor their warranty and Conn's got stuck with it. But then Conn's provided poor service too. I got stuck in the middle, and it still isn't fully resolved.

I purchased a Whirlpool 3-door refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom on 8/17/12. Within 4 days, the ice maker stopped working. It took two days for the repairman to come out and fix it. So all is well with that. Less than 2 weeks later, the refrigerator isn't cooling. Several days later, the repairman came and determined it was the evaporator fan motor and clutch. The parts were back-ordered for 10 days. Parts came in 2 more days before he can come out and install them. He realized they sent the wrong parts. Another week went by, then he came and replaced the fan motor, which is now making an ear-piercing buzzing sound. He came back a week later and said it needed a gasket, which is back-ordered.
In the meantime, he put some stick on insulation around the unit. Not much help. Another week went by, and the gasket showed up. It is still making a high-pitched whining sound. He said it was the compressor. Whatever! I hate the refrigerator. The sound is one that just grates on your nerves and you can hear it in all the rooms surrounding the kitchen! A repairman has to deem it unrepairable before they will even consider replacing it. They consider it fixed. What about my bleeding ears! I just want it gone! I am so disappointed. I thought Whirlpool was a good product with a solid reputation. I have a $2300 noise maker! Is there a class action lawsuit?!

Let me just start by saying I have multiple Whirlpool appliances, and I have always bought Whirlpool appliances in the past. I bought a refrigerator 3 months ago, and it quit working. So, I called Whirlpool to come service it. The service repairman said someone left the freezer door open and it froze up. Two days later, I had to call them back again, because now, the fridge part was not keeping food cold. He came back out and told me it was the compressor. I then in return called Whirlpool that afternoon, and they refused to replace it saying they had to follow their "Warranty Policy" and they would call me back on Wednesday. They did call back on Wednesday and told me they had located the part. I got a call on Tuesday of the following week and was informed they could not locate the part. I called Whirlpool the next day, and they told me they would have to send it to their "Exchange" department for review and I would hear back from them in 3 business days. I asked for them to rush my request, but they told they have no way of doing that. I will never buy a Whirlpool product again!

I purchased a Whirlpool French Door refrigerator (G16FDRXXY07) from h.h.gregg appliances and electronics in Columbia, South Carolina, on August 3, 2012. It was delivered and installed on August 11, 2012. It functioned well for three weeks, and then temperature of refrigerator dropped to 25F. Vegetables and eggs got frozen. I made a service call to Sloan Appliance Service as soon as I was aware of the problem. In the 3rd visit, the thermometer was replaced after troubleshooting. After replacing the thermometer, the temperature of the whole refrigerator got higher than it was supposed to be. Refrigerator got around 53F, and freezer got 34F. All foods in the refrigerator got spoiled.
In the past six weeks, the company sent technicians to my house to check the problem, and they tried to fix this refrigerator for 5 times. The situation got worse and worse. I have not had a functional refrigerator for 6 weeks. A technician came with a compressor on 10/22/2012 to see if replacing it could fix the problem. When he cut the copper pipe, he found that refrigerant was leaked out. There is no refrigerant at all. He refilled refrigerant without changing compressor. Because he thought the leak was slow, it should be caused by the evaporator.
He thought it should work and last long enough when a technician comes back with evaporator replacement. It turned out what the technician thought was wrong. The temperature of both refrigerator and freezer did not drop to normal, 53F/34F. The problem persists. I called Whirlpool customer support line several times. The response I got was that Whirlpool would not replace for having manufactured a faulty appliance during manufacture warranty. They can only keep sending technician onsite to check and repair. For 6 weeks and 5 times onsite visits/repairs, this newly purchased refrigerator still does not function.

Then, we complained because you can only put things on the front half of the shelves or they freeze solid. We were told, "This is the way they are made, don't put things in the back.” So, I have to put my eggs in sideways so the back ones don't freeze and can't use the back portion of the refrigerator shelves. Glad to know we are not alone in our disappointment with our Whirlpool French door refrigerator, but I am wondering what and when Whirlpool is going to do something about this. What a blow to their reputation. Goes to show things are not made as they used to be. We purchased our Whirlpool Gold French door (bottom freezer) in August of 2010. Here we are October 2012 and this is the third time it has stopped working. We have lost food, weekends waiting for repair people and cleaning up messes, and money. Same problem as others are reporting - the electronic board and controls. I just spent my Friday evening on the phone with Whirlpool, first explaining the problem to no result then waiting for a manager to call me back. Who (guess what?) never called.
I finally called them and got the same script as the rest of you. It is outside the manufacturer warranty. Really, that is what you are giving me? Plus they will only look at it if we have a Whirlpool repair person come see it. When can they come? In 4 days! Ha, not likely. I am not giving this company another cent. We spent almost $2,000 on this fridge, all we are getting is 2, 3, 5 years? What a shame. We are fortunate enough to have had some space in our garage "beer" fridge for what I can save of the food. Our 7 years old, $300 Moffat fridge has been working like a charm. We will never again fall for the looks of a Whirlpool, let alone purchase another one of their appliances.

I phoned Whirlpool Canada, and they said they had to send a service tech. The service tech came, and he confirmed the damage and was told to patch it with a proxy. Sorry but I had just paid $1500 for a new fridge. I didn't want a dent and damage. We received no offer for discount to accept the damaged fridge. They sent another one, still damaged. They used their truck to deliver and the guy had no idea how smashed our brand-new trim.
So Whirlpool sent another fridge, and even though I asked them to check it before sending, they didn't. It was damaged. This is four fridges. I'm tired of fighting with Whirlpool. I called Leon's, and they take care to get me a new fridge undamaged. I told Whirlpool about the damage, and they sent a form. First, they wanted me to claim on my house insurance. Why should I put on a claim? If not, get two quotes and fill out tons of paperwork. I'm just too tired after fighting for over two months to get a fridge that isn't damaged. Not even an offer of compensation to cover all the time taken off work and the stress on me and my family. This is the second set of Whirlpool Gold we have purchased in the last 4 years. I bought three Whirlpool appliances (fridge, gas dryer and washing machine) from Abt in June 2012, delivered in July 2012. The fridge has not cooled from the moment we plugged it in and because I am out of state from Abt (IL), I have to deal directly with Whirlpool. According to both the Whirlpool customer service rep and her supervisor, if a product is defective from the start, Whirlpool's policy is to try and repair it until they determine it to be scrap and only then will they replace/refund. I find this policy appalling since I paid for a good working product, from a company Consumer Reports rates very highly, but was shipped a defective one. Now, I have had two service visits, the second because according to Whirlpool the first technician did not perform the correct service. I have been told not to put anything valuable into my freezer for 5-7 days because most likely I have a coolant leak and the fridge is bad.
This is terrible customer service and instead of fixing their error which is the purpose of having customer service, they are quickly building a reputation for a terrible product and terrible service. Good customer service would be replacing the defective fridge as it is clearly their manufacturing issue, taking the item back to their warehouse, repairing it if possible and selling it as reconditioned for a discount. I am noting my suggestion in case any Whirlpool representatives read this website. Another interesting item to note is the gas dryers absorb air from the environment around them so if you do any painting (full room or touch ups), the clothes that come out of the dryer may have a burnt/gas smell for up to 7 days. I am still waiting to hear back from the Whirlpool technician as to my burnt smell problem/resolution, but was told this from a separate service representative so I thought I would pass it on.

We have had problems with the very cheap plastic drawers that are at the bottom of the refrigerator to hold vegetables and meat. We have to be extremely careful so they will not break when opening the drawers. As of late, the fruit and vegetables have been freezing. I went to change the temperature on the outside gauge and dropped the control to 33 degrees and it stuck there. I tried to unplug the refrigerator to reboot the system, to no avail. The temperature is stuck at 33 degrees which will freeze most of our food in a few hours. The freezer side temperature gauge does work.
We also have problems with the ice/water machine. I pushed the water button a week ago and from then on, I couldn't get the ice to come on. I did unplug the refrigerator to reboot and then I was able to switch over to the ice, but I could not get back to the water side. Also, there is no crusher on this machine so the ice comes out in chunks. If we had to do over again, we would not buy a Whirlpool as it appears that they are not interested anymore in quality products and consider cheap junk something to be desired. Not by us! We will get this albatross fixed and see about getting rid of it. It is a buyer beware market so I suggest others beware of Whirlpool products.

I am in construction and have had to deal with failed motherboards on new Whirlpool fridges that we put in some rental properties. Knowing that, when I went to buy a fridge for my own house, I went to a very reputable appliance company and talked openly about getting a fridge that wasn't going to be a problem. My sales agent and I go back always and he was very open about the problems with the more "gadgeted" Whirlpools so we picked a low bells and whistles French door fridge to avoid that. It stopped cooling at about the same age as all the rental units did and had a control panel fail. The sales guy and I laughed about how even knowing about the issues I didn't avoid it. Their company came out and fixed it for just short of 300 bucks.
Two months later, it stopped cooling again. The service tech came out and this time hit the side of the fridge with his hand and opened a relay getting it to work, at least for another week. The tech told his boss that I must not have shut the freezer causing it to go into defrost mode. The third time it failed, we were out of town and lost all our perishables. We had the same tech come out and replace the board he got to work the last time with a whack to the side of the unit. That board should have been under a parts warranty for 90 days but I may have missed that with the slap repair working for the additional 2 weeks.
I'm trying to put this behind me but Whirlpool sent me an "Extended Warranty Plan" opportunity. I can now buy a plan on an almost 3-year old fridge. I am wondering if they are trying to give me the hook up on a bad product or just hoping to prey off my fears and cash in. The company I bought the appliance from has been first rate but their hands are tied by Whirlpool who has virtually no support for their vendors. Before buying a Whirlpool, consider a Sub-Zero. After you figure in the repairs, they aren't too far apart in price.

I did not want to pay an additional $100 for a warranty, unless the company would guarantee me a solution, preferably my money back. I did not really believe the warranty would help me after the warranty was expired. I would still have the same problem and I feel that in the event after the extra warranty expired, the company would tell me I should have kept the coils clean, which is my complaint. There is no way to keep the coils clean. I guess blowing out the residue, then all that residue material would end up all in my house.
Also, very important, there have been 3-4 technicians to my house the first year. I was told various things to do, such as adjust the refrigerator to a lower setting and freezer to a little higher setting. One tech actually replaced a part? The second tech said he would clean the coils. The last tech told me the problem was my coils had to stay clean. My question is, how the heck is that possible with the coils on the bottom of the fridge and susceptible to a lot of dust and dirt, unless I move my fridge everyday? Most people do not expect to have to clean under the fridge each day and the coils would still be dirty anyway. It is very dumb that the coils are not on the back of the fridge. I am the owner of a 4-year-old stainless steel Whirlpool refrigerator, Model GB9SHDXPS02. Yesterday morning, my 5-year-old daughter opened the fridge door to get a snack. The door came crashing down, hit the floor - missing my 21-month-old daughter by less than two feet - the drawer smashed off on impact and flew across the kitchen floor and the contents of the drawer (salad dressings, syrup, condiments, etc) went flying too. Miraculously, no one was hurt. My children were obviously upset and crying, and I was shaken. My laminate floor has a large dent and long scratch from the impact.
My fridge door is broken. I cannot get through to Whirlpool Canada's corporate office to speak to anyone. The Whirlpool Canada call center is giving me the runaround. Yesterday I spoke to a supervisor at the call center who advised me that someone from the Corporate Safety Division would phone me within 24 hours - but I have not received a phone call and it has been more than 24 hours. I am noticing a complete disconnect between the gravity of the situation and an appropriate response from Whirlpool. I am a mother of 4 small children - two of which were very nearly killed/badly injured by a faulty refrigerator door. I can't even get a phone call in response. This is a serious safety issue. I'm tired of apologies, some real action needs to be taken to ensure this never happens again to any consumer.

We have a Whirlpool Gold fridge that was manufactured in 2009. MOD: GS2KVAXS01. SER: HRY0570897 and it has not been cooling properly for the last few weeks. Some days it is fine, the next day not and we have had to throw our a lot of rotting food. We got the fridge checked out and were told the Electronic Control Box for the fridge was not working. My question is, why would a Whirlpool Gold fridge that costs $1800 or so have such a large issue with 3 years? It's practically a brand new fridge and I'm outraged that a large part of the fridge is not working. I understand parts break and there is warranty but it's pretty bad that after the warranty expires the control box would become defective. I have been a loyal Whirlpool customer and solely buy the brand and this break upsets me very much. Especially since replacing the part will cost me $400 plus labor, we are talking about a part costing 30% of the total fridge cost! That is ridiculous. I am hoping there is something you can do to rectify this, as a fridge manufactured by what I thought was a great company should not cause such an issue and I would like to continue to buy Whirlpool products but not if this is the case.
We have called Whirlpool customer service many times to be ignored, berated, told "I cannot speak to a supervisor" and "nothing will be done." Never in my entire life have I ever known a company so horrible to exist. I have had bad service before but this takes the cake. Plus, no company that I have ever dealt with would ignore you and not provide any discount or remedy. I can't believe this is a big brand with the way they carry on. You would assume they would be some one person owned company who doesn’t have a penny to spare. I don’t respect this company at all and expect a resolution because they are truly insulting in all the channels.

The doors were not the same height. There were stains (which looked like rust) on both doors. A shelf on the door and one in the fridge were missing. One of the deliverymen adjusted the door height then, and the door has been creaking on opening/closing since. That door has been replaced, but the problem continues. The freezer (which has an icemaker/water dispenser built in) started to produce ice on the inside of the unit door and on the wall surfaces. Attempts made to rectify the problem were unsuccessful. The first 7 technicians(!) did not have a clue of what the problem was. After many calls, they sent a supervisor who "discovered the problem" and finally, after 10 months of this battle, they changed the fridge for a new one. But guess what?! The Ace service guy called to confirm his schedule. Avoid Whirlpool at all cost. I have had the GSS series, which was horrible. It was declared unfixable by service after 2 weeks of ownership. It was replaced with a similar WP model WS series and was told it was basically identical to the GSS series except for some 'cosmetic differences' (They do 'look' identical and yes, it’s just as horrible as the GSS.). The first one was defective from day 1. It was replaced and assured the next one would be thoroughly checked out prior to delivery. Obviously, nobody did this (was still in box and never opened).
The fridge arrived and had the same exact defects as the previous units. Service literally said these were junk and they had nothing but issues with them that they simply cannot fix, and issues Whirlpool is obviously aware of but will not admit to, nor back up their products. Service literally told me to avoid WP at all cost or I will have nothing but non-stop issues and non-stop service calls and the fridge will still not be 'fixed'.
I purchased the extended 5 year warranty that clearly states that the fridge will be fixed or replaced if deemed 'non-repairable'. Mine was! Yet, neither Whirlpool nor the retailer will do anything. I was literally told 'Take it to the dump and go buy a new fridge' by both Whirlpool and the retailer. My purchase was less than a year ago. The 3rd fridge has only been here 3 months. They took my $1,500. They took my money for the extended warranty. It has been declared non-repairable, yet Whirlpool’s and the retailer’s response is "Too bad, we are keeping your money, not honoring the warranty. We don’t care if it’s 'non-repairable. Take it to the dump and buy a new one."
This is new! The money it cost, the money for extended warranty, the money for lost food, the money for lost wages due to having to be here for repeated service calls, the huge amount of time spent using hair dryers and everything else under the sun (this fridge must be 'baby sat' and monitored pretty much 24/7 due to more issues than I can list). The fact this fridge has taken over my life, with freezer and fridge unusable (totally unusable, it has taken over my life, but I still can’t use it and spend a fortune getting take-out food) is just shocking, but more shocking is the fact neither WP or the retailer (the blue one that starts with an L, ends with an S and competes with HD the 'orange store') will stand behind the product or the warranty and instead is telling me to flush multi thousands of dollars down the drain and take my new, with extended warranty, to the dump and buy a new one. Calls to both companies only led to more wasted time and frustration.
I don’t even see how this can be legal. They happily took my money. They fully explained how I needed the extended warranty in case something like this happens and assured me the extended warranty would protect me in case something goes wrong for 5 full years. They will replace it with a new one if un-repairable. Yet in less than a year, I've gotten 3 defective ones with the last one only 3 months old with the first service call made on the day after delivery, but I’m supposed to throw all this money down the drain, take my new fully warranted fridge to the dump and buy a new one?!
Shocking and not something I can afford to do. If I could afford it, I would get this thing out of my house in a heartbeat and buy something else, but I’m not made of money so this is not an option. Not sure what I can do other than to warn others to avoid Whirlpool and avoid the retailer (L---s). I’m just in shock and to say I’m upset would not even come close to describing my utter disappointment and frustration with both companies and this whole ordeal (never ending nightmare is more appropriate).

We bought a new Whirlpool counter depth side by side stainless steel refrigerator in January 2012. We have had 7 service calls because things were freezing on the top shelf. They installed a new part and it still froze. They told us to do dumb stuff at Whirlpool like turn the temp up, don't use the top shelf, etc. The money they want for these appliances and you should put a band aid on it to make it function properly? Duh? The final fix was to duct tape the vents to allow less air flow. This appliance should have been recalled.
I have since read reviews and it is an ongoing problem. Before buying, do your homework and make sure the other brands are not manufactured by Whirlpool. The Whirlpool hotline for problems is not that service friendly, they have an attitude. I need to replace two more appliances and they will not be Whirlpool. The repair service was great but they are independent companies, not Whirlpool.
How do you fix a lemon? Consumers need to be aware of this. Whirlpool would rather spend money on repairs that did not work instead of replacing the appliance. If you want 7 or more repair visits and no results, buy Whirlpool.

I took everything out of the freezer and removed the panel over the coils. There was major ice buildup on the coils. I completely defrosted it and dried it out. I restarted it and it seemed to be working okay. But a few days ago, when I got something from the top shelf of the freezer, it was not even frozen. So, here I go again. When my wife and I were planning our retirement, we made a to-do list before we officially stopped working. We are loyal Whirlpool users and over the next 3 years we purchased 4 major Whirlpool appliances in preparation of having 8-12 years of problem-free time as we go from a two-income working family to two people on fixed incomes. I retired in December of 2011 and unfortunately this did not pan out on 2 of the 4 appliances. The washing machine, in late February 2012, blew a transmission 23 months after purchase and 11 months after the warranty expired. Discussions with Whirlpool by phone were unsuccessful in getting the repair covered.
Ultimately, this repair cost us $265.00. In late April, 9 months after the warranty expired, the refrigerator iced up and had to be manually defrosted, despite being equipped with ADS. My family and I did the defrosting because it was a weekend and tech support was not available. On Monday, the refrigerator was functioning, so I was told to run it and see what happens and call the tech if it happens again. I had done research online and found many folks were having trouble with this refrigerator model and the main problem was the "control board”, a board that is used in many Whirlpool refrigerators. I ordered one after the initial problem and waited for it to ice up again. On Sunday, May 20, it repeated the same symptoms displayed and I put the board in myself and it solved the problem. This computer board cost me $95.81.
I contacted Whirlpool about the two premature, post-warranty expiration issues in hopes of getting some reimbursement for the repairs. The Whirlpool rep told me that because there had not been a recall on either appliance, they could not reimburse me. They instead offered me a 6-month extension on the dishwasher I bought last July. I have been on several complaint websites and have seen the refrigerator control board repeatedly mentioned - all within the approximate 2-year timeline as my control board failed. My refrigerator was a GB9FHDXWQ01 model, but the control board is used in many of their refrigerators. If this has happened to you, please contact me at ** and, hopefully, together we can get enough data to get a recall and get proper treatment from Whirlpool. Please include your refrigerator’s model number so I can verify the board is the one in question. Thanks.

We've had water overflow on our wood floor. When this happened the third time, I called Whirlpool to send a repair person.
The person I talked to said it could be over $400 to repair and that it would be more economical to get an extended warranty for about $314, which I did. I did not receive the contract via email (it may have gotten lost in spam). The repair man came and said yes, this was a common problem due to a design flaw and that it needed a $6 part to make the water drain smaller - so that too much air didn't get in.
It was May 1st before the repair could return to install it. This was done and we thought - expensive but it's taken care of. Today, May 5th, the same problem happened and I have to throw away food again. It's the weekend and there is not a repair person available for two weeks - I got an order number and may request that the repair come sooner. To add insult to injury, I found out that the extended warranty is good only up to $450 and not good for any repair that might be needed in a year. I was told today 04/11/2012 at 9:18am after remaining on hold for over 25 minutes that the order had been already been "shipped by FedEx Ground delivery" (highly unlikely). Since it was apparently "my error" that the coupon code had not been entered or accepted on my original order, Whirlpool would not take any steps to apply the discount to this order (one day later)! A supervisor ("Matt") absolutely refused to make an effort to correct this situation and would not transfer me to his supervisor. His was the final word as to the position of Whirlpool in this matter. Totally unacceptable! I am a senior citizen with limited financial resources.

We bought a new brand Whirlpool, ice berg, 2 door refrigerator in 2006. It worked fine for 6 months and then started giving all the problems. Until now, we have repaired it at least 10-15 times with company servicemen and also private repair shops. We are just so tired and frustrated will all that we have gone through because of this fridge. Today, the main door just came out and it is probably the 16th incident. We are hardworking people and take a lot pleasure and find lot of happiness in buying something new. It took us almost 2 years to save money for this new fridge with cost us about Rs. 20,000. But I should mention this that we have already more than Rs. 10,000 in repairs.
I am sure this would just be another email in one of your inboxes but wanted to write this and convey the message that we are hurt. We do not want to take any legal actions as middle class men in India do not have the resources to do that. But I would surely not buy anything of your brand going forward and would not suggest anyone for it. Writing this in assumption that you understand the pain middle class men goes through to but something worth Rs. 20k and spends another Rs. 10k for repairs. We had high expectations from your product but that was not to be.
Following were the problems we face in last 4 years: 1. Refrigerator not cooling (5-7 times); 2. Top door broken (1 time); 3. Main door broken (1 time); 4. Water leak problems (5-7 times). I hope someone will read this and forward it to concerned department.

We bought the Whirlpool Gold series side-by-side about 2 years ago with an ice maker in the door and with this design, the ice bucket is on the inside of the door, which we thought was a very clever design, taking up less freezer space. Well, to remove the ice bucket, we had to use a blow dryer because even though you press the button which is supposed to disengage the bucket from the door, it has always been frozen onto the base.
Then we started having issues of water leaking from the ice maker. It turns out, that the lever that controls the chute was broken. We called a certified Whirlpool technician to come out to fix the ice maker dispenser lever. Well as it turns out, it cannot be fixed. It is a "sealed in the door" unit and to fix it, we have to replace the door, a repair estimate for door and labor is approximately $800. That is absurd.
I contacted Whirlpool and was told that my refrigerator is out of warranty and that there is not an option to repair the dispenser. There is nothing we can do. I said that according to the repairman, we are not the first to report this problem. When I contacted Whirlpool I was told there is no recall for this item. We purchased the Whirlpool based on the reputation that it has had in the past and the good product we have in a Maytag (which is associated with Whirlpool) dishwasher. Well, never again are we going to purchase a Whirlpool or any of its subsidiaries products. I have read so many unhappy customers here that I cannot believe that Whirlpool continues to make such inferior products or designs.

I am a Whirlpool Privilege Member - IFB privilege number **. This is Mrs ** here and I possess two Whirlpool Fridges, one single door and one double door (Elite Model). In fact, all my family members have Whirlpool refrigerators because I recommended them and because I have had a very satisfying experience with your service until now.
I recently (first week of March) logged a complaint as my fridge was not working (it was working on and off). The Mechanic from the service center visited us and said that the compressor was at fault. I had some doubt about this as the Fridge was working on and off and I requested my friend who had a workshop to come and have a look. He checked and said that the compressor was working perfectly but looked like there was some problem in the supply of current which could be a loose contact or something.
So I logged another complaint and when the mechanic came (this time a different one), I was out of the country and my husband was there in the house. He checked the fridge and said the compressor was working and apologized for the earlier mechanic’s wrong diagnosis. He also said that it was difficult that since the wires were inside the beading or the Puff, or whatever, the fridge could not be repaired.
I am really astonished and pained by this comment by the mechanic as we spent a lot of money and bought a fridge for its brand worth name. I shudder to think if this complaint had happened two years after I brought it, should I simply throw the fridge because it can't be repaired? Is there anything at all where the company can say it can’t be repaired? Are fridges used and thrown in India? I am all the more worried because I have been recommending Whirlpool Fridges left and right to everyone and I tell them that there could be a situation when Whirlpool would ask you to simply throw your fridge away. I still have belief in Whirlpool and I firmly believe my recommendations would not go wrong, and it is only the fault of the mechanic who could have made this remark unwittingly.

After 1 year, my fridge's plastic interior wall/liner started cracking everywhere. One crack is right across the entire back wall; other smaller cracks are on the sides and back. Three fridge shelves literally fell apart: pieces fell off! The glue came undone on the sides of the shelf that hold the glass in. Pieces of the shelf itself were falling out of the fridge. The microwave door has plastic trim around the glass on the door, and it is cracking also.
It seems that anything that was made Whirlpool and is plastic is cracking and/or disintegrating. Sears caulked the cracks in the fridge and is replacing the shelves, but nothing is being done about the microwave. Whirlpool said, "Too bad. Go to Sears. We may have made the product, but Sears is responsible." And Sears is saying "Too bad; we've done all we can."

I called Whirlpool’s 800 customer service line to let them know I was having a problem with this loud humming and rattling noise coming from my refrigerator because of a manufacturing defect (according to the service tech that came to my house to fix it). Apparently, the metal grid is being held by a flat mental hook which vibrates. What a loud noise. We cannot eat in our kitchen: the noise it terrible. The repairman's solution was to put a piece of rubber between the two metal pieces. It worked until he left. I told him it would start again and it did! I even let the customer service rep hear the noise and she agreed. I am in the early stages of my problem, but from what I have read I am not very hopeful. I would like to have the names and phone numbers of the people at Whirlpool who refused to help. I purchased a new Whirlpool stainless steel French door refrigerator MSRP for $2,500 in good faith. If something were to go wrong with the appliance, Whirlpool would fix the unit as applicable under their accompanying written Whirlpool Corporation Major Appliance Warranty for the duration of one (1) year from date of purchase. However, this has not turned out to be the case at all. As per their written Whirlpool Corporation Major Appliance Warranty for one (1) year from the date of purchase, when this major appliance is operated and maintained according to instructions attached to or furnished with the product, Whirlpool Corporation will pay for factory specified parts and repair labor to correct defects in materials or workmanship that existed when this major appliance was purchased. Service must be provided by a Whirlpool designated service company.
My refrigerator was purchased on 10/27 and delivered on 10/28. Service repair performed by a Whirlpool designated service company was on 11/30, 12/30, 1/9, 1/18, 2/9, and 2/23. A future appointment was scheduled for 3/22. Whirlpool’s designated service company notes from 2/9 specifically state that the refrigerator will not run and parts were ordered. Whirlpool’s designated service company returned on 2/23 for parts installation and noticed that other components of the appliance were not functioning properly and proceeded to call the "tech line" for support. After hours of troubleshooting and multiple failures to function properly, the service company deemed the refrigerator as un-repairable and clearly stated in their notes that the unit was not cooling, there is a manufacturing defect, restriction in the unit's seal system, and the unit needs to be replaced. I was instructed that the "tech line" would complete the ticket, send the information over to Whirlpool Corporation, and I would need to follow up with Whirlpool’s customer service to set up the delivery of a replacement and haul away of the non-working defective refrigerator.
Furthermore, the company (manager Wanda at the TN office), had already promised to replace this unit if the service repair performed on 12/30 did not fix the unit, which the company has never honored and has since decided to recuse themselves of this promise made on behalf of their employee. In addition, this Whirlpool manger (Wanda at the TN office) even gave me her direct phone number and extension to follow up with her. She has never answered any of my 10 phone calls over a period of 3 weeks and never attempted to return a single voicemail that I left for her. Since the promise of a replacement refrigerator, I contacted Whirlpool by phone on the following dates: 12/30, 1/3 and 1/16; 1/17, 1/19, and 1/30; 2/20, 2/24, and 2/28; 3/2, 3/9, and 3/13; and 3/15, 3/16, and 3/19. I as well have emailed them information they have requested on 2/20, 2/24, and 2/28.
Below is verbatim of the last few Whirlpool customer service representatives that I have had correspondences with.
2/28 (Tabitha): I have sent in your information for the PEX (replacement unit) since I see here that your unit is un-repairable. Someone will continue to contact you within 24 to 48 hours to go over the PEX process with you.
3/2 (Brittany): I see we received your file on March 1st; however, it was denied because the request was blank. Can I place you on hold on a moment? (After a long pause) I apologize for leaving you on hold so long. Your records were listed under two different accounts on our end with one being linked by your phone number and another being linked by your address; therefore, all of your records have probably not been viewable. Upon further review of your information, our Whirlpool designated service company that performed service on 2/23 will have to call into the tech line to complete their notes before we can proceed.
No, you cannot speak to a manager. If you wish to have a manager contact you, one will do so within 24-48 hours. You cannot speak to a manager because at this time there is nothing they can do to assist you; unfortunately, this process is moving along at its fastest place and there is nothing more we can do for you at the moment. There is nothing that we can accept from you to speed this process along, even though your copy of the service company’s receipts include the statements of work from our designated service company. If you wish to escalate this matter, you can write to Whirlpool Customer Relations Department at 553 Denson Road.
3/9 (Kia, supervisor): Although our designated service company may deem your unit un-repairable, Whirlpool has to deem your unit un-repairable for a replacement to be issued. At this time, Whirlpool does not deem your unit un-repairable. You will need to contact our designated service company and have them forward over your information. I am the highest level of supervision for the company and if you wish to escalate this, you can write to Whirlpool Customer Relations Department. Their mailing address was already provided to you previously. At this point, our conversation is over. We will not be replacing the product as we do not determine it to be un-repairable. Thank you for calling Whirlpool. The information we have discussed will be documented. I am the highest level of management for the company, so your request to be transferred to management is denied. I am aware of everything you have said and I have documented this information. At this time, I am done discussing this with you and will now hang up the line.
This kind of customer service is not only discourteous, but it is despicable in the upmost matter. This displays complete corruption in regards to the written warranties provided by Whirlpool Corporation that come with your Whirlpool product at the time of purchase. Currently as it stands on 3/20, my $2,500 valued Whirlpool refrigerator is just under (5) months of the purchase date and has been deemed as having a significant manufacturing defect, as well as needing replacement by Whirlpool’s designated service company that they hold a contract with. Yet, Whirlpool refuses to replace the unit and refuses to speak with me based on the ground that only their contractactually designated service company deems the refrigerator as un-repairable, but they do not. My refrigerator has not worked in weeks!
From reading the Whirlpool appliance product reviews online, I discovered that I am by far not the only consumer that has suffered from victimization on behalf of Whirlpool Corporation. I saw numerous consumers who had purchased the exact same product (matching model number) as me, had issues, and Whirlpool refused to assist them. Therefore, I think that we as consumers need to take a stance to stop these unethical practices of Whirlpool Corporation and demand that they honor their written warranty for their products. This company’s abuse and neglect of their consumers is absurd.

The average life of a refrigerator is 11 years. We purchased a Whirlpool convertible refrigerator (Model EL7JWKLMS02, Serial # EWR1339731) on 6/12/04 from the Lowe's here in Visalia, CA. The first delivered was DOA and Lowe's delivered another. That should have been a warning sign. We have had several problems with the product, as early as 2006. All repairs went through Sierra Appliance & Franks Appliances.
We are now in the market of another refrigerator to replace this one. We have had to have freon added now for the third time. Sierra Appliance was unable to find any leak, but each time, the freon was depleted. In addition to the health hazard of having freon leaking into the house, we have had the distinct displeasure of having to deal with food waste, etc. Because of the ongoing problems with this product, we are now facing the reality of purchasing another refrigerator to replace this Whirlpool product.
Due to this, I feel it is difficult to consider another Whirlpool product and will question any product to ensure that it is not Whirlpool-related. If there is anything that Whirlpool or Lowe's can do at this point, it would be appreciated. Thank you for reviewing this note of dissatisfaction. It appears that we will be shopping for a new refrigerator this weekend unless we hear from Whirlpool. In any event, I would like this recorded as a complaint from a former customer.

I called Whirlpool to have my dishwasher and fridge fixed. I knew exactly what was wrong with my fridge. I asked how much it would cost and was told $129.99. I asked why so much. I was told that it included the labor and service charge. I asked if I would need to pay for both units if I did it the same day. She said that the company provided a 30-dollar discount. I decided to only service the fridge at this time. I spent the entire day today, waiting for the service person to come. And when he showed up, I told him that the fridge needed a computer board. He then started telling me that it would cost $200 for labor. I explain that I was told that it should be $129.99 for service call and labor. And he said, "No lady, it's $70 for the service call and labor is $200.
I then called Whirlpool where I spoke to multiple people within a forty-minute call to explain that this is absolutely wrong and that I am not going to pay for the service call. I then spoke to a Niki (3544) who is supposed to be a manager, who basically said my problem now is with the service company, not with Whirlpool and that there is nothing they can do even if they misquoted me. I agreed to pay $129.99 for service and labor, not an $70 service plus labor.
I am so upset because I have been a client of Whirlpool for ten years. I have called for service on multiple items in my home, and I have never had a problem. This is so outrageous. I absolutely expect Whirlpool to rectify this mistake. I am also going to report this matter to the BBB and to Fox News. I didn't know how smoothly an ice dispenser was supposed to work until I got this one.
To remind you of my experience, it died on Thanksgiving. I purchased side-by-side model ED2KHAXVQ just over 18 months ago. It quit cooling on Thanksgiving Day. I got a repairman out the following Monday. He diagnosed it as a “sealed system” problem and would be $500-800 to repair. He was surprised that a serious defect like that wasn't in their warranty. I went to the Lowe's where I purchased it. He said he couldn't help me and told me to call Whirlpool. Customer Service said all they could do was send a repairman. I informed her I had just spent $70 on a service call and didn't need another one. I told her what the serviceman had told me regarding the warranty, and she said they took that out of their warranties in 2009. Well, of course they did! My mother has a similar model and has nothing but trouble with the ice maker since day one.

Hard to believe Whirlpool has gone so far down hill. The products are no longer quality and their customer service couldn’t care less. I am now on my 3rd Whirlpool. I had concerns due to many reviews stating numerous issues. However, after speaking to whirlpool numerous times they assured me--heck, they promised me that none of the issues I mentioned were accurate. They claimed the reviews were written by the competition or disgruntled employees. I pointed out there were far too many reviews all mentioning the same issues for the above to be true. They again stated none of the issues mentioned were known to whirlpool and again assured me my fridge would have none of the issues mentioned. I now have my 3rd one with each one having the exact same issues and the very same issues I found on tons of reviews that Whirlpool claimed were fakes.
I have never been so frustrated in my entire life. This fridge is ruining my life. Weird crazy graining non-stop noises. Awful smell like the compressor is overheating. Unit runs non-stop. Negative 30 degrees in freezer and it will not cut off even if I raise it to the warmest setting. Sometimes it defrosts 5 times in one day and other times it goes 5 days without defrosting a single time. When it does defrost, 50% of the time the hole in the defrost drain pan is frozen and the water cannot drain down in to the pan and instead ends up on the bottom of the freezer under the basket and all over my floor. This beast is impossible to move due to the awful 3-wheel design, yet it has to be moved daily or more then that to wipe up all the water. The doors are loose and get looser with each door opening. The ice dispenser operates on its own! Yep, the pad that has to be pushed to work, does it on its own, dropping ice all over the floor, with nobody touching the dispenser pad. The ice maker itself is 100% useless unless you consider having to spend 4-6 hours everyday--yes, everyday, using a blow dryer to melt the frozen dispenser tray as being useful.
I don’t! The ice does not drop in to the bin. It just sits on the dispenser tray the ice comes out from. Fills with water and causing the entire thing to freeze. The motor will kick in to dispense the ice and since it’s frozen solid, it just runs and runs the motor but will not do anything because everything is frozen solid. Turn ice maker off and blow dry to melt and as soon as bin is put back in and even though it is off and the ice is now melted water, it dispenses the water in to the bin! This happens 2-4 times everyday: frozen solid, blow dry, dumps water in to bin; blow dry and clean out bin; drops ice into hot bin even though ice maker is off, causing you to repeat again and again. Water line freezes causing more need to blow dry and again. Once unfrozen it immediately wants to drop the melted ice in to the bin even though maker is off. Without even dumping any ice, the water valve kicks in and fills the tray that has frozen ice in it with more water. Obviously, this ends up getting the water in the bin and all over the dispenser, freezing it solid. I could go on and on, but frankly am sick of typing. Each of my 3 fridges all have done the exact same things, with tons of others posting online that theirs too have these issues.
I bought this based on Whirlpool assuring me these issues so many mentioned were non existent, yet they quite obviously are and I’m on my 3rd one with each having the same exact issues. Whirlpool could not care less. My retailer said if the 3rd fridge didn’t work then “too bad.” They claim I can’t be satisfied. Nope, wrong! I just want a properly working fridge that I paid good money for. I never asked for a different model, so quite obviously it has nothing to do with me not liking the fridge or no fridge will satisfy me! Just give me one that works. But nope, Whirlpool could care less and my retailer could care less, even after seeing the issues themselves! I am so dismayed it is not even funny. This fridge is killing me. It’s a 24/7 job for god’s sake. I mean that literally. Between all the many issues and the non-stop blow drying, this fridge has me working on it 24/7!
I can’t work, can’t sleep, can’t eat--my entire life is spent messing with issue after issue. Who ever heard of needing to blow dry 3 or 4 different parts of a fridge 3 or 4 times everyday? Like I said, I could go on and on, but I’m worn out. 4:30 pm now and just like everyday, I have been blow drying and doing the same ** I have to do everyday since 5 am and when I’m done typing this, I have to go blow dry again since I hear the motor humming and the tray filled with water without dispensing the frozen ice from the frozen dispenser and it’s now frozen solid again. I've never experienced anything like this, and again neither Whirlpool nor my retailer will do anything to resolve this. I paid good money for this defective piece of junk. I have a warranty. Service has been out and they are clueless. They just keep saying, “Awful design. Seen many others with exact same issues. We can’t get them fixed.” Can’t fix it? Can’t replace it? So what the heck do I do? Although it has a lot of issues, I figured I could eliminate some by just cutting ice maker off. Nope, doesn’t work and get this: Whirlpool said I can’t cut my ice maker off for more then 8 hours or my water line will freeze! Um, didn’t they tell me 20 times there are no issues with the water line freezing? Yes, they sure did! And they said I had to actually turn off the water valve behind the fridge if I turn the ice maker off or it will freeze/rupture/flood my house!
Stay away from Whirlpool! They used to make good quality products with great customer service, but no more. They have lousy defective products that they will not stand behind and non-stop lies about issues they claim don’t exist when they most certainly do exist and they are aware of it and are lying saying they are not aware. Then the retailer won’t do anything! Beyond frustrated!

We are on a fixed income and cannot afford to have it repaired. On investigation, I found hundreds of complaints about the same issue with the icemaker flap. I would appreciate you trying to eliminate this problem.

We bought a Whirlpool side by side refrigerator in September 2009 for $898, which was a lot then. Last fall the ice maker jammed and started dumping ice in the floor. Yesterday, we noticed that things in the freezer weren't solid. After checking, we found our frozen food had thawed and things in our fridge weren't very cold either. We called Whirlpool which was no help. Then we called a repair man who told us, “There was a leak in the seal system and it was low on freon. Would have to replace a compressor, evaporator and it would be better and cheaper to just buy a new refrigerator." It has just turned 4 years old. I called Whirlpool again and they said they didn't know why it went bad. I said is it a recall or just a bad refrigerator. The girl was no help at all; I kept asking to talk to a tech and finally asked for their corporate office address which she said was 553 Benson Rd., Benson Harbor, Mich. 49022. I now have to buy a new refrigerator and it will not be a Whirlpool.

We bought a Whirlpool model GC5SHAXVY01 side by side. The ice maker had problems within the first month, and they continued until the following year. Finally, the ice maker was deemed irreparable. Whirlpool worked with us, and we got a replacement for $600.00. The replacement had been in our home 3 months, when we realized it was leaking water. The guest room behind the fridge, had water soaked carpet, and molds growing on the baseboard. The hardwood under the fridge had been water soaked, and could not be dried by professional machines running 24 hours a day for 4 days. Oh the noise! The guest room carpet was pulled out with the baseboard immediately, and today, they are ripping out the hardwood affected in the kitchen. We called the CEO's office at Whirlpool to tell them. The answer was "talk to our legal department".
We are very angry. This has been very disruptive and upsetting. The floor is black under the hardwood. We are now awaiting the drying machines to come in for 3 days, and waiting to learn about what appears to be black mold. Be careful, and good luck if you buy from Whirlpool.

I am completely dissatisfied with the competence and accountability that I have encountered while dealing with Whirlpool Canada. I ordered a Whirlpool Refrigerator in September of 2011. I opted to switch the door swing myself since it is a relatively simple task and of course they charge you extra if they do it for you. Once I had the door installed, the last step was to screw on the handle. The door was missing the threading which allowed the handle to be installed. I contacted Goehman's to set up a service call. They looked at the fridge only to tell me that they needed to order an entire door. A month and a half later I had not been contacted by anyone regarding the whereabouts of the replacement door.
Long story short, over four months later and after hours of phone calls recounting the details of the events numerous times to numerous employees, all Whirlpool had to say over and over again was "I understand, but unfortunately we do not provide any compensation.” They said that the warranty only covered repairs and not product replacement, which would be fine if it ever broke but they delivered a fridge that was not built correctly in the first place. They took no responsibility for the lack of quality control.
After speaking with the supervisor Josh, and insisting that we be compensated for the inconveniences and frustration, he finally agreed to extend the warranty by 3 months. I told him that they should offer a year extension since if they stood behind their product that it wouldn't even cost them a cent. He politely told me that he understood and what email address did I want the extended warranty information to go to and that he would offer only the 3 month warranty. When I received the email, I found out that I had yet another phone call to make in order to engage the extra 3 month warranty.
I am extremely frustrated with the level of service and I feel as though they school their employees to be therapists that offer no solutions. They were all very willing to listen and offer a sympathetic ear, tell you that they understand but not to take action or offer a solution. They seemed to think that it was acceptable that I pay them full price for a fridge but not deliver the full appliance for a projected 6-8 months. In my book and to most consumers, this is not acceptable. When I pay full price for a product, I feel that a full product should be delivered to me in working order. Whirlpool got their money and the "special order" door seems to be at the low end of their priority list. How else can they justify a 6-8 month wait for part replacement?
Somebody please sell Josh a car with no stereo system, make him pay for the option and see if he if he thinks waiting 6-8 months for it is acceptable. Oh yeah, and waste 6-10 hours of his personal time trying find out where the heck his stereo system is then tell him how much you understand. I guess I can stroke Whirlpool off as a brand of appliance for any future purchases.

Whirlpool sent me drawers, sliders and glass shelves after calling it in and talking with 5 different customer service reps. Less than 2 years later .all the above cracking, breakage, fracturing of the drawers and liner have come back with a vengeance. Whirlpool asks did I purchase an extended warranty.
It wouldn't matter with the cracking and stress fractures of the liner because Whirlpool considers all of it cosmetic. I say **, they fixed everything the first time. They should stand behind the flimsy plastic used in the manufacturing of this appliance. Whirlpool says the defects do not impede the functionality of the fridge. I say **, the appliance runs more than usual with the cracks and will shorten the life of the product.
I am but one person with many voices. USA might stand up and enforce the manufacturing quality as it once was. I do not want to ever hear from another Whirlpool Rep. I understand that because if they did, they would stand behind this shoddy workmanship found in the Whirlpool Refrigerator I purchased in 2009. He said that it could not be fixed (internal leak or something). An aside to this story was that a tank of compressed oil blew and damaged my hallway and kitchen walls and floors and 2 rugs. That was being handled by the repairman's insurance company.
We called Whirlpool and they said that they we could pick out a new refrigerator priced at no more than $2399 even though we paid $2799 for the Jennaire and would have to pay the difference for a model costing more. We went with a Maytag (Whirlpool product) that listed for $2899 but was available at 2 local stores for $2050 and $2100 but I had to give Whirlpool anther $500 because they use the MRP.
They finally delivered it on 1/5/12 but would not leave it because no one disconnected the water line to the appliance and they would not touch it. It took me 20 seconds to do it and if they would have told me so it would have been done on the 5th. Rescheduled delivery for 1/8/12 and the unit was delivered damaged (large dent in front) and they would not temporarily leave it until a replacement came.
I called Whirlpool again and asked them to just call a local Home Depot or anyone in my area (all had the unit in stock) to deliver one but they told me that it must come from the warehouse in Michigan (I live in PA) and that it would be yet another 5 to 10 business days to receive it. So, I am paying $700 more for a unit that I could have bought and had delivered before Christmas not to mention the inconvenience of no unit for a month. Not to mention the damage to my home, $200+ dollars in thrown away food, time to shop for new unit, time for 2 repairman appointments and time for the 2 deliveries thus far and countless phone calls to Whirlpool to get the new unit.
Today is 1/10/12, so I guess I'll have by month end if there are no other problems, you would think that they would try to expedite this just because its been so long or give us a substantial credit for all the trouble. Never again Whirlpool.

Purchased Whirlpool refrigerator at Lowe’s. Refrigerator would never get cold enough, so I exchanged with a Whirlpool Gold side-by-side refrigerator. After installation coffee was spilled behind refrigerator. I was unable to pull refrigerator out from wall to clean coffee spill from behind. When checking with Lowe’s on the 35th day, I was informed that Lowe’s 30 days warranty had expired and I would have to work directly with Whirlpool.
I discovered it was very hard to communicate with Whirlpool; there was a problem that they only had on file the first refrigerator I purchased not the one I kept. The Whirlpool service rep did not seem very cooperative but with insistence they told me they would change my information to the correct model and serial number and a repair order was sent to a local service shop.
The problem with not being able to roll the refrigerator out from the wall is that Whirlpool had changed their wheels to a tri-wheel support and there was not enough height on the single front wheel to lift the refrigerator to clear the screw down leveling stops on each corner. The service rep had no solution for the problem and had to call the Whirlpool service. He indicated he never was able to get assistance from that department. I told him I would talk to them as the consumer but they refused to discuss the matter with me, so I gave the phone back to the service tech. Whirlpool told the service tech to order replacement wheels of which I knew this would not resolve the problem.
After two weeks, the replacement wheels arrived, the service tech installed them and as I expected they did not resolve the problem. I then requested the service tech to remove the rubber from the stops on the corner to allow for the additional required clearance and this solution worked. This is a very poor design for Whirlpool, but I accepted the results. Two weeks later I receive a phone call from the service business and they tell me that Whirlpool did not have the refrigerator model/serial number they worked on. Whirlpool was not willing to resolve the problem I had with them initially and the service business would have to bill me directly and was not covered under the warranty.
At this point I lost it and informed the service business I resolved this model/serial number with Whirlpool before. Whirlpool gave them the authorization to work on the refrigerator and they would need to collect the fees from Whirlpool. I have purchased my last Whirlpool appliance mostly because Whirlpool makes it very difficult or refuses to talk to the consumer and it appears the quality is no longer there. Will Whirlpool become the next Kodak? With this kind of service, people will just quit buying from them.

Regarding a Whirlpool Refrigerator (model ET8CHMXKQ04) purchased in '05. I don't remember exactly when the problem began but the freezer starts its defrost cycle, water drips down through the refrigerator compartment (soaking all paper/cardboard covered products), collects under the crisper trays and eventually spills out onto the floor. It's a river of water that requires a towel to collect.
I believe what's missing is some sort of collection funnel and tube that catches this dripping water and delivers it to the evaporation tray behind the base cover plate under the refrigerator. Obviously, Whirlpool has no quality control nor does it do any field tests to ensure their products are designed and operate properly.

The second one was also loud and we debated if we should send it back also but we just put up with it! Second mistake was not buying the extended warranty. Since we have always had good luck with WP we didn't purchase the extended warranty. Neither WP or Lowe’s would do anything to help.
The repairman who looked at it and diagnosed what was wrong said the compressor was undersized for the size of refrigerator and that it had worn itself out trying to keep up. He said he would not put in the same size compressor or it would do the same thing. Hence the loud noise of this model. Our Whirlpool refrigerator, model MODGI5FSAXVYO, began leaking water from the freezer onto the floor about 3 months ago. We purchased the unit in January 2011. We had to keep a towel on the floor to absorb the moisture. Our troubles began after the freezer door was left ajar and the interior became quite frosty. We had turned off the freezer several times to defrost but nothing helped until this morning when I read the comments of Marea of McClellanville, SC and Ruth of Vavenby, BC.
I then decided to begin exploring taking apart everything until I reached the freezer unit in the back of the freezer. I discovered a lot of ice with the ice blocking the drain hole which is supposed to drain condensation from the freezer fins to a drain pan in back of the freezer. Apparently, leaving the freezer door ajar caused the drain hole and surrounding area to ice up. Condensation from the fins would keep dripping until it overflowed onto the bottom of the freezer until it filled up with ice. The water then had nowhere to go but out of the freezer onto the floor. The simple solution to this problem is to turn off the fridge, empty out the freezer and allow the frozen drain hole to thaw out. You can easily remove the back panel of the refrigerator to see if water is then draining into the drain pain. Good Luck! Ed

Next day itself, 19th of October, '11, the door lock of the fridge is not working and the defrost light is also not working. Immediately we logged a complaint in Whirlpool customer care, which is in Chennai (mother's care). The engineer came and he removed the lock and he said, “It's a new model lock, we don't have any spare. We will raise an incident to Whirlpool and will replace with a week.” But almost one month over, today is the 21st of November, ‘11. We called the customer care office more than 10 times in this period, but we are not getting any response from them.
Today, I spoke to one of the executive in the customer care Mr. R. and asked about the status. But he said we don't have that lock and he asked me the copy of the purchased bill of the refrigerator for replacing the unit. Really, it's very poor customer service and I’m very much disappointed with Whirlpool's product. We used Kelvinator for more than 11 years and we never had any problem. But with this Whirlpool product, within 2 days we faced these problems. Cooling coming out through the lock hole in the door of the refrigerator. Electricity consumption is more. No defrost happens automatically so far. Almost, it seems that the refrigerator may go down to critical condition. Request your intervention to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

I bought a Whirlpool refrigerator model GSF26C5EXW02 from Lowe's. It is a huge piece of crap that has had so many visits from the Royal Appliance guy, that we are now on a first name basis. Lowe's was awesome and has actually replaced this junker twice at no cost to me and has, in fact, reimbursed me for all the food this fridge has ruined by freezing. The appliance repair guy can't seem to find a problem so I just keep getting ruined food because of this hunk of junk.

All I ever wanted was a nice refrigerator with the ability to get crushed ice from the door. We bought our refrigerator from Lowes several years ago and have had problems with the ice dispenser ever since. Lowes sent repairmen many times and even replaced the one we purchased with a newer model. Whirlpool refused to replace. The problem persisted and we had to continue calling repairmen. The last straw was when the repairman asked to borrow my hair dryer to help him melt the ice that continuously builds up in the door chute. I stopped going through Lowes and went directly to whirlpool for repairs.
Since then I have been told that I should remove the ice box and clean out weekly, be nicer in order to get better help and that my husband should do the talking so that Whirlpool will be more helpful. I am so disappointed. It's been a couple of years since I last called for repairs even though we had the extended warranty. I have to clean the chute daily in order to get crushed ice from the door. Whirlpool knows that their engineers developed an ice dispenser with problems but will not admit it. Their customer service is the worst ever. I will never buy a whirlpool refrigerator again.

This is the most horrific episode in my life. Our Maytag refrigerator caught on fire started the kitchens vinyl floor on fire completely totaled the refrigerator. It ruined all of the carpet, all wall coverings and paint were turned gray or black , smoke damaged the family clothing in the laundry room, water damage, curtains, metal leveler mini blinds, everything ruined, air duct system contaminated with smoke which moved all of the particles of the melting insides of the fridge throughout the entire house. This was at 2 am when I was awaken by horrifying screams from my youngest daughter, that I could only assume was being attacked.
I grabbed my firearm and ran through the house as fast as I could and found myself in a dark haze and still heard screaming coming from the haze which I soon realized was smoke, but I was still afraid that this was part of the attack on my daughter life until I found her trapped in the upstairs stairwell afraid to come down through the smoke. I found that the Maytag refrigerator was on fire and ran out the back door and grabbed the water hose and began fighting the fire. I had knocked the fire down some and found my way to where we keep a fire extinguisher and emptied that on it. And then removed the power and we escaped the home grasping for air.

Purchased side-by-side model fridge, and within a month, the ice-maker froze up. Within a year, the relay switch failed, and caused the compressor to fail. What a lemon. Also, the clear bins in the door of the fridge side, have all cracked. Whirlpool says it is a cosmetic issue, but I think it is hazard and a material processing failure during their manufacturing process. They obviously would not cover any cosmetic issues under the warranty.
I was one of the lucky ones, at this point, as the repairs were under warranty (expensive compressor, only by one week), had to buy an extended warranty to cover me in the future. I was only out the cost of extended warranty, and a fridge full of food. Lucky me. Customer service is worthless for any issues. I don't think I'll buy another Whirlpool product again. Buyers beware.

Do not purchase any Whirlpool product. Whirlpool outsources its work to other countries which add to the poverty and joblessness in the US. Try to buy appliances that have employees in the US.

This will be the last Whirlpool appliance I will buy. We purchased this Whirlpool refrigerator Model # ED5GVEXVD literally a few days over 2 years ago. It is a side-by-side refrigerator with shelves that are supposed to slide out, however, we have never used it in that capacity. The problem is that the plastic frames on every shelf, even the ones that do not slide out over the bins, have cracked in no less than 2 places on each shelf.
We contacted Whirlpool over a month ago. The good news is that they responded quickly. The bad news is that they stated, "It is unfortunate that you had problems with the shelves, but we are unable to do anything for you because it is out of warranty. If you would like to purchase replacement shelves, we could order them through their consumer parts department. "
This is such a crock. If it was one shelf, I could justify the possibility of it getting smacked or something overweight was placed on it, but every shelf? As I said, not a single shelf is crack free, including the ones that sit directly over the bins, which should have additional support from the bin construction.
By the time I replace every shelf that is cracked, it will be equal to what I paid for this refrigerator 2 years ago, and it will net me maybe 2 more years of service. If I have to invest that kind of expense into it, the refrigerator will go to the recyclers and I will buy from another manufacturer, which will definitely not be a Whirlpool or Whirlpool subsidiary.
The cracks were noticed early last month. The cracks are already getting larger. I will no longer allow my children to get anything out of the refrigerator since I'm afraid that the shelf will crack, the glass in the shelf frame will break and we will have an injured child, which instead of reaching this website, I will be contacting a lawyer. I need to do something with this refrigerator, but with the economy, I can't afford to just keep replacing a $1,000 refrigerator every 2 years.
This refrigerator does not get extreme use since it is the 2nd refrigerator in the house. The primary fridge has been in our house since 2005 and I wouldn't trade it for anything. This Whirlpool refrigerator, however, is poorly made. The materials that the refrigerator shelves are made from were just a poor engineering decision because it is not holding up to mild to moderate use without cracking.
We purchased this Whirlpool appliance thinking we were getting a quality product from previous reviews we had read, however, this is obviously no longer the case with this company and seeing the complaints that I now see online. Someone would have to give me really compelling evidence to make me decide to ever purchase another Whirlpool appliance again.

My whirlpool refrigerator relay switch caught on fire and customer service told me that my model wasn't on their list of problems refrigerators, but they know there are a lot of units out with the chance that it could start a fire if anyone has a whirlpool product refrigerator. I would call 1-888-923-8502 and check to see if it is on there list to replace the switch.

I purchased a side-by-side Whirlpool refrigerator in May 17, 2010 from Lowe's in Gilroy. After 17 months of service, the compressor went down this morning. I have called the service center and they can't give any help because it was over the 1-year limited warranty. More than $500 is good for just 17 months' usage. Would it be worth it to have Whirlpool appliances? Do think about it before you choose a Whirlpool refrigerator.
