I bought a new Whirlpool dishwasher from Sears 14 months ago. It just died and the repairman says it needs a new motor. I don't see why Sears and Whirlpool would promote such junk. I will never buy from either of them again.

He said the water isn't hot enough to wash the dishes.
The 5 year old dishwasher which was used before I gutted the kitchen-worked fine! But it was almond.....
This is a new Energy Star appliance.
The technician from A&E appliance services said I needed to do something to get the water temperature up and suggested a point of use water heater. They defeat the purpose of purchasing an Energy Star appliance. That type of equipment costs more to run every month than the dishwasher!!!!!

This is a complaint regarding Whirlpool model KUDP02SRSS3 dishwasher, door latch failure. I have had this dishwasher for slightly over a year. The latch started popping open intermittently a few months ago. When we called the warranty service company to look at it, they told me there is a re-designed strike and door latch available. Obviously the original latch has been recognized by Whirlpool as being inadequate.
In an instance like this, if a company values its reputation, I would expect them to stand behind their product and install the replacement latch at no cost to the customer. Kitchenaid refused to take any responsiblity for the defective latch design. Based on this level of service, I will never buy another Whirlpool or KitchenAid appliance.
My cost to replace defective door latch with the new model was $206.71.

In March 2006, we purchased a Whirlpool Dishwasher, Model GU24000XTPS7, but did not get the extended warranty based on the good reviews for this model and its cost, thinking that as a top of the line dishwasher it would be dependable. Well, less than 2 1/2 years later, it became very noisy when washing. The authorized Maytag repair service agent said the bearings on the motor were shot and it would cost over $300 parts and labor to repair, with a 90-day warranty only on the new motor.
We're better off buying a new dishwasher and purchasing an extended warranty. We don't feel comfortable buying another Whirlpool/Amana/Maytag product after this experience. Never again will we spend a lot of money for an appliance. It seems they're only made to last as long as the original warranty, and all manufacturers are offering only a one-year warranty on their products now. What happened to the days when appliances lasted 20 - 30 years and the Maytag name meant a quality product?

In 2005 I purchased a Whirlpool dishwasher model # DU1148XTPB0. Has had 3 circuit boards go out within several months.
The circuit boards are costing me about $100 a piece every time I have to buy a new one when it goes out. Even though Im a licensed AC & appliance contractor, Whirlpool wants to send out there authorized dealers to diagnose a problem that my company and another local company already diagnosed. This machine is a lemon and Whirlpool should replace the dishawasher machine, where for this machine has a bad design. Replacing the circuit board every 2 months is gona waste my timeand money for the next several years til the whole machine goes out. This is rediculous. I need to get a different model dishwasher in exchange.

In May of 2002, we purchased all new Whirlpool Gold appliances for the new home we had just built. As of today, we have had eight service calls on the dishwasher, replaced the micro wave with another brand and put a new compressor in the fridge. Every time we called the company, we would totally get the run around.
I know they were just hoping we would go away but we kept calling and calling customer service. If we didn't get satisfaction we asked to talk to the supervisor until we got to the top of the chain. We finally got a lady who sympathized with us and got something done. As of today, eight service calls and probably $1100 or more later, they agreed to replace our LEMON dishwasher. The supervisor said it should have been replaced a couple years ago. Just what we were trying to get through to them!
They have replaced two heating coils that burnt and snapped apart(very dangerous scenario), replaced a thermostat, replaced two control boards, replaced the detergent and rinseaid dispensers, replaced the pump, had us increase the hot water temp, run faucets to heat the water (is this very energy efficient? I think not.) and had us try other little things.
We have no children left at home, we travel a lot and don't use the dishwasher that much but it was always broke down. Usually we had to wait 2 to 6 weeks for parts! I thought dishwashers were made to be used. We thought by buying a more top of the line product, we wouldn't have all these problems. When our company would come to our house, they were always having to wash dishes by hand.

on 9-23-06 from Lowes. In March of 2008 the washer started squeaking and making grinding noises. It gradually
increased in sound until we could not talk in the same room while it was was running. I had a Whirlpool authorized serviceman check the dishwasher. He found the wash motor bearing was burned out. His fee was $63.00.
I should note that we are retired and spend three months each year in Florida.A total of six months since the purchase of the dishwasher. So in actuality we have only gotten one year
of use from this appliance. We feel we should be compensated for the purchase price of an appliance that we paid $472.00.We were expecting a more reasonable length of use.
We would are awaiting a rapid reply to this complaint.

We recently purchased a new home built by Whitestone Custom builder (August 2007). The builder had a base model Whirlpool dishwasher installed in the home. It did not clean dishes, left grease marks on glassware from drinking water or milk, left tea stains, coffee stains and any stains for that matter.
After a number of visits from A&E Repair place and some other repair place, the bottom line was (as are the cases with all the other complains I read in this site) the water is not hot enough or the water is too hard. Well we have just moved to this house from our prior residence, which is only a mile or 2 away, in the same city. In my prior residence I had a Maytag and we did not even had a water softener (which is present in the current home of ours), and the dishes came out spotless.
However, after seeing my grief my builder, Mr. Tim Rice, was very gracious and exchanged my dishwasher with a supposedly upgraded one (DU1055XTSS) just weeks ago. But this one, though had a bigger tub and a few extra buttons, is no better than the earlier one. I seriously think Whirlpool needs to stop selling the dishwashers to rip off the consumers. They should also ask the repair men to come out with a new believable line other than water is not too hot or the water is very hard. I feel so sorry for the consumers like us who are stuck with these dishwashers and the A&E repair services.
Now that I learnt that recent models of Maytags are made by Whirlpool, I am debating whether to buy Maytag dishwasher or not. I am going to replace this dishwasher by a working one that is going to work as a dishwasher and not a stainkeeper. I was also told to increase the water temperature in the water heaters themselves, run hot water till I feel the water is very hot and then turn the dishwasher on. So why do they advertise with their 2-4-6 hour delay wash function keys. Are they asking the consumer to use the delay wash and then just before the dishwasher starts to wash, to come to the kitchen and make sure the water is hot!!!
Running hot water for 5 minutes before the dishwasher starts is definitely increasing the energy bill for the household. Looking at the stained and clouded dishes, food soiled silverwares and food remaining on the dishes after a full wash is not only frustrating for ones mental health but definitely a clinical health hazard.

Our dishwasher model GU1200XTLB1 has always taken a long long time to wash the dishes and did a poor job. We contacted the 800 number and told them that it takes about 3 hours on the short wash and over 5 hours on the regular wash; and they told us it was our water, so we turned up the water heater to the highest level and allowed it to run to get hot before turning on the washer. It still took over 5 hours for a normal wash and 3 hours for the short wash.
Thinking that I could improve the performance, I filled the rinse aid with Jet dry (had been using the basket type attached to the rack). On the first load after that, the washer started to smoke and smell really badly. We turned it off; when we tried to run it again it would not fill with water or pump water out. Any suggestions? My mother has been washing the dishes by hand now and then putting them in the dishwasher for a final rinse. Now it won't even rinse. I know this washer is no longer under warranty, but I am wondering if there ever was a recall on this washer?

I currently have a Whirlpool dishwasher, model GU2500XYPQ1. It's one of their top of the line models and is less than two years old. It began to have smoke pour from it with the stench of melting plastic on Christmas day. Thank goodness it wasn't running at night while my family was asleep. I had to run out to the garage to the circuit breaker and trip it myself. Who knows what would have happened if I had not been there to prevent this electrical malfunction from spreading? The A&E technician arrived and took apart the door assembly and showed me the damage. The electrical board, the wire harness, and the wiring were black and disfigured. The plastic safety coating on the wiring had completely melted off in the area.
I immediately called Whirlpool to have the technician explain these scary results so that I would be able to get a voucher to replace this defective unit. To my surprise, Whirlpool would only give authorization to replace the damaged components despite not knowing the cause of the electrical meltdown. I have been shuffled from one person and department to the next and cannot get them to replace the product that nearly caused my house to catch fire. When I asked one of the representatives (Hamda, extension 6424) if she could assure me that replacing the damaged parts would prevent this situation from occurring again, she replied that we would have to wait and see if it did! I would think that Whirlpool would want to collect the unit to test it rather than have my family become guinea pigs. This unit already had a fire-related recall service performed on its heating element. While performing an internet research on my model to find out if anyone else experienced a similar electrical meltdown to mine, I discovered another yet-to-be-completed (or even the courtesy of Whirlpool notifying me) fire-related recall on this model in relation to its motor wiring. Jim Kuhn (extension 6485) assures me that Whirlpools failsafe standards make it impossible for my dishwasher's electrical meltdown to have resulted in any damage other than to the dishwasher itself. My family is more important to me to take another chance on taking Jim at his word. I would sooner place trust in the honesty of a guy selling refurbished appliances out of the back of his truck at a flea-market before placing my trust in another Whirlpool product.

My whirlpool dishwasher motor broke after less than 3 years of light use. I called the company hoping that they would stand behind their product. Of course, the motor is out of warranty and I am out of luck.
It seems that there is a frustrating trend to sell throw away products, charge exorbitant amounts of money for them, and then offer an extended warranty for even more money. It is becoming almost necessary to purchase these extended warranties because no one is manufacturing products to last within the normal warranty time period. It seems to me an appliance that costs $600-$700 ought to last more than three years.

I purchased a Whirlpool Dishwasher model GU2400XTPT7 in January, 2006, and it has only lasted 23 months. The motor and pump assembly have both failed. I spent $499 on this dishwasher, and it certainly should be expected to last longer than this. Whirlpool has said that they are sorry for my problem and would be glad to send A&E appliance repair to diagnose my problem for $60. I advised them that I have already had the problem diagnosed by a reputable appliance repair man and that I don't feel A&E is a very reputable organization. Whirlpool would only offer to schedule an appointment with A&E.
I would not advise anyone to buy a Whirlpool product or any product sold under another name that Whirlpool manufactures. It should have lasted longer than 23 months, and now have to spend hundreds of dollars to replace it.

I purchased a NEW Style CABRIO WASHER and DRYER set July 11,2007. I began to have issues within the first use, but assumed it was lack of my education on the washer. After re-reading the instruction manual and calls to both the seller and Whirlpool the problem still continued. The washer tears permanent press clothes, pulls the threads in towels, damages quilts and blankets. It so tangles and wrinkles clothes that I end up ironing most everything, and these are items that never had to be ironed before. Then the dryer catches these STRINGS the washer created and further causes damage. The dryer takes forever to dry and when using the sensor option, the dryer stops while clothes are still damp, further wrinkling them.
After many calls to Whirlpool they gave me a repair number in Grand Rapids. The man came out saw what the machines were doing, and said that is the way they should work. Calls again to Whirlpool and another repair repair man who was not used to this new machine, so he called Whirlpool for suggestions. Ordered a new plate and circuit pack; he came back in 2 weeks and replaced both items, and also the sensor in the dryer. Now the washer doesn't tear clothes but stills tangles and damages them, and the dryer still catches the damaged clothes and does not dry fully. Called Whirlpool and was told that's all they will do, this is the way these appliances were supposed to work and the trouble I claim to be having was a matter of opinion.
I'm stuck with $2000 appliances: CABRIO WTW6600 and WGD6400. I threw out some of the damaged clothes and other items. I mostly now wash my clothes at my sister's. I just turned 64 and thought this would be the last washer and dryer I'd need to buy. HA!

I purchased a Whirlpool dishwasher (M# GU2400XTPS7)on July 9, '06 for $568.00. I did not purchase an extended service contract for two reasons; 1)Consumer Reports found this specific model to have an outstanding review, 2) It's a Whirlpool. Initially, this appliance performed above our expectations. However, that changed approximately two weeks ago. We've had problems with soap not dispensing, dishes not cleaned, decal on control panel peeling, and motor noises.
I called Whirlpool and a repairman was sent. He suggested remove and replace: pump and motor, sub-valve and sub-panel. Total estimate parts and labor, $727.06. I paid the $65.00 diagnostic fee and declined the repair. I plan to purchase a new dishwasher of similar quality. Once installed the cost of both dishwashers including related expenses will be approximately $1600.00. My house has had only two dishwashers prior to this one. Both were the cheapest models available at the time, yet lasted a combined total of thirty three years. My Whirlpool lasted only sixteen months. I have written a letter to Whirlpool expressing my dismay at buying this appliance.

I purchased a Whirlpool Calypso prior to the class action law suit. It had problems with poor wash quality, noise, water splashing out and rusting of the lid. After a great deal of run around the unit was replaced. The new unit worked for 6 months and then had the same types of problems. A leveling plate (the item the recall was for) was replaced. Now 6 months later I am faced with the same problems. I believe this is a poor quality product. Whirlpool will only send someone out to fix the problem. I feel that they should replace the unit with a different type, especially since I have had so many problems (with two different units).
My clothes do not come clean and many have been ruined due to staining, fading and other issues. I am going to have to get a new washer.

I purchased a Whirlpool dishwasher for my tenants' apartment 2 yrs ago. They have taken perfect care of it. They noticed a smell in their house and some gnats. After a lot of reserch we found the diswasher had drained through the sub floor under it. When the repair man came we found the tub of the 2-yr-old dishwasher was cracked. Whirlpool sent out their repair man to the tune of $53.00 who told us the tub was cracked. I wasn't shocked by this since I already knew it. So now I have a wet, moldy floor that needs replacement, a dishwasher that needs major work for which I will have to pay an additional $150.00 plus have unhappy tenents who must wait a few wks for the part to come in.

The book says it should take 86 minutes to clean the dishes. It takes 3 hours. Whirlpool sent 4 different technicians to fix it. It didn't help. Each one told me I should run the water until it got hot. Which doesn't sound energy efficient to me. And it still took 3 hours. I called other appliance repair places and none of them agreed with Whirlpool appliance repair people.
