The current situation with Viking is an oven relay that has been backordered for over six weeks. Considering the poor quality of Viking appliances, their parts department should be overstocked. The Viking refrigerator is even worse. Egg bin door broken. Deli drawer (big drawer on bottom) broken twice. Have not replaced it yet because it costs over $500 for this plastic piece. Never will I buy Viking again and I tell anyone and everyone not to do so.

Stephen and I purchased a Viking kitchen package and the 5 year warranty in October 2010. We spent over $16,000.00 on your kitchen package. When the Viking range arrived we were extremely disappointed to discover the range rear panel exhaust fan was broke. Since then we have had repeated calls to the repair company for the same problem never to be resolved. The oven shuts off in the middle of cooking when at 425 degrees. The range will not go on until it cools down after 30-45 minutes. After the oven is turned off it makes a terrible loud noise. Our warranty has ran out and I will not pay out of pocket for repairs. That have been occurring since day one. I want my oven repaired as soon as possible. If no repair can be done then I would like a new range that works!
This was November 2015, still have not received the fan. Range is still not working. Called repair center over and over they have not received the part and Viking does not answer the phone or call back after leaving messages. Viking has never back these products or been concern with our problems. We had many issues and repairs. Range is not used daily, should not have all these issues. Advise anyone looking at their products should take the time to educate their self on Viking issues. Sales man talk us out of Wolf and subzero. I should of stay with my first choice. Seem Viking don't care about your post seeing all the complaints listed. I wanted to leave no stars but I had to leave one before it would post.

Viking 36 inch convection range. I prefer gas but we don't have that option, so I went with the electric convection model. I chose Viking because of their reputation. I am not a fan of this range. The 36 inch range has four burners with the smallest burners in the front. The right side burners can be used as a single cooking zone, but the heat isn't consistent. All of the burners adjust the temperature throughout cooking which I suppose is a good feature unless you're trying to boil water. The oven is noisy even without the convection. The oven is self cleaning but it takes 8 hours to go through the cycle!
Make sure your installer is familiar with Viking. Ours was not. He was there all day trying to get the range installed, and we had to have a technician back immediately to make adjustments. The range is nothing special for the money. It isn't cheap or cheap looking, but I have had much less expensive ranges that I liked better than this one.
I find this range very frustrating to work with. The 36 inch, ceramic top convection model ran about $5000. It's self cleaning, assuming you have the 8 hours needed. The middle rack in the oven glides beautifully which avoids spilling of quiches, souffles, etc. The features I find the least appealing are the ceramic top and the tiny burners in the front. The ceramic is impossible to keep clean and the small burners don't heat the pan evenly. Also, the knobs don't lock into place, so you constantly have to check the settings. The burners self regulate, so the burner will reduce the heat throughout cooking. This becomes very frustrating if you are trying to boil water. Gas is probably more consistent. The oven seems small. The racks do not cook evenly, so you can't use all three simultaneously. I can't tell any difference between convection and non-convection cooking except convection is louder.

Had Viking stove top for 3 years without any problems. One day spilled about 3 tablespoons of water over a flame adjuster knob which somehow shorted the wiring inside!!! Then it seems in the entire Northwest suburbs of Chicago, there is only ONE Viking authorized repair service. So you guessed it... they charge astronomical prices. Went to a highly peer-rated appliance repair service that was a lot less costly. They stated Viking is slow as snails in giving up replacement parts unless you work through their authorized repair shops. Sure enough, it's been almost 2 months without parts shipped. Don't buy Viking if living near Chicago.

We purchased a Viking double oven 10 years ago and it has never worked properly... Will burn backside of pizza, pie, any dish that isn't rotated by hand, so much for the convection. The cost to repair is quite expensive, especially if you do not live in a metropolitan area, due to lack of "Viking qualified" repairmen.

After reading some of the reviews, I guess I've gotten off easy with my fully Viking stocked kitchen, but nevertheless I feel compelled to add to the pile of one star ratings. Granted my Viking appliances are 10 years old, but having had GE and KitchenAid appliances, which last 20 years, my expectations are that if Viking is going to charge THAT much money for an oven, or a dishwasher, then it'll last even longer than the other brands. We had a year's worth of trouble with our oven burning everything before it finally exploded (literally). After 2 months Viking finally sent the right part. Oh, but they told the repairman to bend the piece to make it fit; even the repair man was incredulous.
Now we have been waiting 4 weeks for a part for our dishwasher. I called the day it was due in (today), and nope, not ready. It'll be another 2-3 weeks. It's back ordered. Who is making these parts? Elves that work only by the light of the moon?! Viking: Figure this out. Figure out how to make better appliances (Many, many of your competitors have already figured this out. It's not rocket science). And then, figure out how to get your parts faster. Your turnaround time takes me back to the 1860's. It's absurd. Thankfully we didn't buy these appliances, the previous owners did. But I cannot wait to replace them. My plan is to take all 4 Viking appliances to Burning Man and set them on fire.

8 years ago we did a total renovation to our kitchen and chose to put in a 48" Viking range/hood. This undoubtedly was our most expensive purchase. In the last 7 years I have had nothing but problems. 2 of the burners never light unless done with a match. I am now on my 3rd thermostat for the broiler, I have been waiting 3 MONTHS for this part... Again!!! The oven thermostat has been replaced 2 times. Of course these repairs have cost us $500-$1500. This has been the most disappointing purchase I have ever made. Terrible product and terrible customer service. Don't DO IT... Buy something that backs up its product for more than a year!!!

I have a full Viking Professional kitchen: 48" gas range, 48" refrigerator, 24" undercounter bev fridge, full height wine cellar, dishwasher, and a warming drawer. The range and the beverage fridge did not work from the day they were installed four and a half years ago. We asked for a new bev fridge and were told it was a production issue and a replacement part would be sent when the issue was fixed. So we had a non-working, brand new beverage refrigerator under our counter for at least three months before the replacement part was sent.
Since then it requires repair, on average, every three to six months. And since the warranty is no longer valid that costs $500.00 each time we repair it. It's always the same issue, which is the display board needs to be replaced. There was a time that I refused to have it repaired because of the cost and the number of times we've had to have it repaired and the fact that Viking would not cover the repair because the warranty was past.
Our range, from the day it was installed, didn't work properly. I found this out the first time we went to use it while hosting an engagement party for my sister in law. The caterer came to me to tell me the oven wouldn't stay on. After replacing part after part on the oven, over many months, we finally were given a new range over a year later. This is at least five times that someone had to come out to our house to try to repair the oven, and went on from July 2011 until August of 2012 when we finally received a replacement range.
A month after the new range was installed we began having issues with it. I have invoices for six more service calls for repairs on the range alone. Most recently, we had to have the hinges replaced on the larger ovens door, which was in September of 2015. And just three months later the new hinges need to be replaced again. That's $380.00 a pop. The range will still shut down if you are using too many components. If you're using the oven, the burners and the griddle it will overheat and shut down.
Our wine cellar has had to be repaired on quite a few occasions. It has even had to have the condenser replaced in more than one zone. We've had to have our ice dispenser repaired on at least two occasions because of poor design. It causes the dispenser to grind down plastic from the bucket as well as in the dispenser. The result is plastic in your drink and a dispenser that wears down. We have had to have just about every single Viking Professional appliance repaired at one time or another over the past four and a half years and most of them several times.
Granted, we do have a couple of appliances that we haven't had repaired, but that's just because the malfunctions are so trivial I don't have the energy to deal with those since there are usually larger issues with other appliances that need to be dealt with first. For example, the warming drawer grates don't actually fit. They are too large to lay flat. And when it heats up the drawer scrapes somewhere on the interior. The door in the dishwasher that holds the detergent in is broken as well as the door on the butter compartment in our full size refrigerator. I've also had to replace drawers in the fridge because they cracked or plastic popped out in the crisper. This is completely unacceptable. When you purchase high end appliances, spending tens of thousands of dollars you do not expect that they will require repairs several times a year, nor that you'll have to spend thousands more for said repairs.
I have well over 20 invoices for repairs. This doesn't even go into the time we've had to go without an appliance while waiting for parts to come in, nor the times wrong parts arrived or broke immediately after being installed. It seems a complete company overhaul would be necessary to correct all of Viking Range's problems, and unfortunately I cannot afford to hold out hope for that to happen, neither financially nor intellectually.

Purchased a 30 inch Viking gas range that was delivered Dec 9, 2015. The oven temperature was anywhere from 25 to 100 different from the dial reading--had to buy an oven thermometer to realize that it was the oven and not me. Service guy came out a month later and "recalibrated" it. Temperature was still 25 degrees different than the dial reading. Technician returned two weeks later and replaced the thermostat and "internal computer". Still 25 degrees discrepancy from the dial reading. Viking rep told me that I just needed to get "used" to the oven. A $6000 range should not perform this way. I was very persistent with rep calling and THEY WILL BE REFUNDING THE PURCHASE PRICE AND REMOVING THE OVEN!!! I am thrilled!

Purchased 2 Viking ovens in 2012, stopped work properly in about 10 months. Called Viking for service, found out Viking only warranty is for 6 months. Had a repair person come out, he said the parts would be around $500.00 for each main control boards to fix the problem. Tried using only the convection functions to do most of baking for several years. I did this only because I did not want to spend an additional $1,000. on these damn ovens. Now, the convection is out, called back repair, when everything is completely fixed on both ovens, we are looking at $1,600.00. I think Viking is truly an awful brand, they do not stand behind their products and part are expensive. Buyer beware!

Then the oven worked for 20 min and it blows again and in the blow it make a short circuit in the microwave oven so now I have a completely destroyed oven and no microwave. My husband and I purchased a BRAND NEW Viking VDOF730 professional series double wall ovens with the french door. It was installed on December 21st 2015. It worked beautifully for 10 days. The bottom oven stopped working on December 31st 2015. Turning the bottom broiler or convection on and the oven still doesn't get over 150F. When I finally got through to Viking customer service this morning after a 30 minute wait on hold, they authorized appliance service to come out and 'fix it' on Wednesday, the day after we can no longer return the product. Let us hope that it keeps working afterwards.
Updated on 03/10/2016: I first posted in the beginning of January 2016 regarding brand new french door stainless steel double wall ovens. It took several days for a serviceman to come out and verify that indeed the bottom ovens are not working. He ordered the replacement relay board and bottom element that day. Then the service department did not know when the replacement parts would ship. After almost a month of daily telephone calls to the customer service and to Pacific Sales, Viking finally agreed to replace the whole unit.
The second unit was going to be sent to another city as there was an error on geography. Another two weeks pass. The replacement was damaged -- enamel cracked and scuffed off, oven webbing ripped, spiral machine marks on the racks and off-center doors. They were notified and we were told another new oven would be sent out. This time, 11 different signatures were on the inspection paperwork and it was installed. Then the installer damaged the doors. A different service is finally sent out -- without the french doors, or bottom hinges as the bottom oven is not closing properly. But it is okay to cook with -- so I am told.
Within 2 days of it being installed, the ovens are running hot. You set it for 325 and it goes to 450. I am greatly annoyed. Yesterday, we are not notified that the service guy would be here to replace the inside of the french doors and the bottom oven hinges -- on a brand new oven. It was a fluke that he pulled up as I was coming home. He installed everything but still doesn't like the replacement hinges. I am giving it another try for a month; otherwise, goodbye Viking ovens. The gas cooktop appears to work fine although our downdraft pulls the flame out. I would NOT purchase their products again.

The first range, a 36" open burner and the range hood, have been fine for 12 years. Surviving a move to a new house even. The dishwasher purchased at the same time started badly staining glassware & silver after a couple years. Viking said it was crappy dishwasher soap (phosphates removed) but the Bosch at our ranch did fine. Limeaway removed the staining temporarily. Inspected the racks and found the plastic coating cracked exposing the carbon wire core which was rusting. Viking said they'd happily sell me new racks for $450. Compared it to a neighbors' dishwashers, found it to be an Asko. Racks were less than half Viking's. Very Funny. 30" open burner gas stove at ranch would not light/stay lit. Viking said likely master propane regulator was bad (but fireplace & Rannai water heater worked fine).
Third-party repair person specified by Viking found range regulator out of limit, requested replacement. A month later, no regulator after many calls. I built a water manometer, adjusted Viking regulator to spec, range worked fine. Then noticed when range top leveled, triangular gaps between range & counter face. Adjusting feet to plumb range sides with counter made range top 1/2 bubble off. Viking said floor not level (it was fine). Problem was range not square, back had been screwed on with sides not plumb. Called third party repair person, he said call somebody else. Viking hadn't paid him for diagnosing the regulator problem. Removed back, squared stove, replaced back (new screw holes required), problem solved. BBQ looked massively "professional" but cast-iron burners' holes continually rusted shut, had to be reamed twice a year.
Porcelainized sheet iron flame diffusers and grates didn't last two years (their new ones are stainless), found SS burners, diffusers & grates on the internet for 1/4 Viking's prices. Drip-drawer plastic (!), rollers melted immediately, replaced with SS. Moral: Great appearance, great brochures, celebrity endorsements (paid, most likely), a generous retail mark-up (probably) encourages dealer loyalty and dealer omission of known crappy quality control, crappy build details and total absence of warranty service discharge. Wouldn't buy anything Viking again...

We purchased several Viking "high end" appliances for a condominium about 6 years ago. I have never been so dissatisfied with an appliance line ever. We opted for induction cooktop as we could not do gas. It has been highly disappointing! All of the large burners have stopped working. First one about a year ago then two others less than 3 months apart. I was told by service rep for Viking the parts alone will be over $3,200. Are you kidding me? The elements usually burn out affecting same circuit. One large and one small burner share but our small burners work.
I would never buy another and suggest you DO NOT either. In addition our Viking ice maker does not work. Our refrigerator ice maker became our source for ice since. It works only if you manually move arm each time shelf is pulled out. I can not begin to express the poor quality and especially short life cycle of these very expensive appliance.

Viking six burner gas cooktop - I confess. I saw some of the bad reviews for Viking customer service and thought that out of the large number of sales, it is the angry customers who write reviews. But here I am. My appliance is still under warranty. I ordered a part on November 3rd. Weeks before Thanksgiving, the part is still not here and will not be here by Christmas. No one knows when it will be here. Not so much as a clue. The Viking customer service is really simply nonexistent. The part is "on back order." They "do not know when it will get to the factory." They have absolutely no sense of how disappointing it is not to be able to use a brand new kitchen for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
The customer service department is universally cold and uncaring. At this point Viking cannot possibly redeem itself. They cannot turn back the clock. But not to worry. They do not even care. I bought the cook-top. There is no return policy. I made the bad decision to purchase Viking. I should have just lit a fire with my old cook-top and burned a few thousand dollars. In which case I would have been better off because I might be able to have used the huge fire to cook for my family over the holidays. Please look away from the shiny brand name. Money cannot replace the time that you will invariably lose waiting for parts. Buy a different high end brand.

When we first took delivery of our Viking stove (double oven, 4 burners and grill) the larger of the two ovens didn't work and the computer motherboard had to be replaced. The company servicing it was great so the impact was minimal. Within the first few months, the black finish on the grease trough, although never used, started to peel, exposing the shiny metal underneath. Since it is so visible on top of the stove, I reached out to Brigade (the new name for Viking in Canada) for a replacement part, under warranty. After much waiting on hold, and back and forth emails, they agreed to send the replacement part.
I waited five months only to find out that the order was never placed and a new company has taken over their parts distribution. They have informed me that since my warranty has now expired, they will SELL me the part at a discount. How nice! This stove, which looks beautiful, was meant to be a once in a lifetime purchase. Not only is it showing early signs that it won't stand up to normal use, the lack of customer service is disheartening! I wish I loved my stove but I don't and would not recommend a Viking/Brigade due to the poor customer service.

I have had this repaired just a few weeks ago and it is happening again. I have been waiting for a call back from Viking since Monday and this is dangerous. My husband has called many times daily. The oven thermometer read over 700 degrees. Viking will be responsible if something happens. Weeks without an oven is unacceptable when you pay almost $5000 for an oven. I want this fixed. I am extremely frustrated with my viking appliances. We saved a long time to purchase the best I thought at the time to be viking. I purchased the microwave, dishwasher, and range. From the very first month I had nothing but problems!! I have never been able to use the stove. It had to be repaired from day one. Can't bake cookies - one side is done, the other burnt. What is sad is that I a have brand new stove and can't use it. Last Thanksgiving I had a half done turkey with 20 people waiting to eat dinner. This is after it was repaired for the 5th time.
Now it is Thanksgiving again and I can't use my brand new stove and have to go rent one because my Stove is not working again. The repairman informed me that the part had to be back ordered. Are they Kidding!! With a company their size and how expensive their unusable appliances are, you would think they would have a little replacement part that they could fed-ex the next day especially when they know it is close to a holiday, especially Thanksgiving.
The microwave didn't work either and had to be replaced and it still doesn't work, it continually kicks a breaker. We have lived in our house 20 years and never had a breaker problem with our old microwave. Also the knobs on the front of the stove are a fire hazard, if someone even brushes up against them they will turn on. Afraid for the kids.. We've had nothing but problems with both the broiler and the bottom burners. Both burners have required constant repairs and the broiler still won't light on the convection setting. We've had to replace the bottom oven pan because it had a broken weld and we replaced the convection fan cover because it was rubbing the fan.The stove looks nice and it definitely gives the impression of quality but its reliability is horrible. I purchased a new home with a Viking VWH3648SS "professional style" residential range hood to accompany the Viking Range that was installed below. It is fitted with a 1200CFM in-line blower. The package cost close to $2500 new. We use our kitchen daily for a family of 4. At the 8 year point, the lighting control knob began to loosen. Eventually, we called an "authorized" Viking Service provider called, "Mr. Appliance" They sent out a repairman who worked on the hood and seemed to have repaired the problem. But within three or four weeks, the knob came loose again. We called and the head honcho from Mr. Appliance came to fix the problem. We thought that was the end. Fast forward 5 years later and the knob loosens again. Not wanting to spend another several hundred dollars, I decided to address the problem myself. As an degreed engineer, I am not one to avoid a technical challenge.
I pulled the hood switch panel apart only to discover that the switch had been tie wrapped into place. Over the years, heat, vibration and usage caused the tie wrap to stretch. The proper way to have made the repair was to remove the switch face plate which is held in place by the fan, lights and heating lamp rocker switches (spring clips). This provides access to an underlying nut plate to which the control should have been mounted using a 1/2 inch nut. In the process of disassembly, I discovered that the control thread, made of nylon or plastic, had been stripped which might explain why a tie wrap had been used. I ordered a new part for $58 and mounted it correctly, adding a lock nut to the assembly.
But that's not the biggest problem. Upon disassembling the hood, I discovered inaccessible areas to be caked with grease so thick that it took a scraper to remove. This grease was checked separately as being flammable. The recess areas and sockets where hot halogen light and heat bulbs sit was particularly thick with burned grease. There were pools of liquid and solid grease in inaccessible areas of the hood that if ignited during a pan fire or electrical fire would provide fuel to burn the surrounding wood cabinets, the drywall and the exposed studs behind the hood covering. Mind you, these areas are not normally accessible for cleaning by a consumer.
In my attempt to clean and repair this poorly constructed product, I was exposed to razor sharp sheet metal edges and burrs which had not been properly or safely machined during the manufacturing process. Particularly dangerous is the access holes surrounding the range hood lights where a consumer might attempt to clean only to be cut in the process. There are dozens of complaints in various internet review sites that complain about this issue in consumer accessible parts like the filter elements. Any machine shop professional will tell you that Viking Range has used improper technique in their manufacturing process which expose service people to the possibility of serious cuts.
A call to Viking Range customer service resulted in the answer: "We don't recommend that consumers access these areas and any tampering will void the warranty". Of course, the warranty is long expired. There didn't seem to be any concern (or understanding) by the Viking Range person of the dangerous design that Viking Range has released to the market.
I have video taped my work and after I have a chance to edit the raw material, I will post the shocking videos and will be sending a copy to the CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) for recall consideration. This range hood is a fire danger and a health hazard that should be addressed with the thousands of customers who unknowingly have installed this product.
I would love to see responses from authorized (or freelance) service personnel with opinions on these issues. By the way, the Viking Range VGRC365-6BD commercial grade open burner gas range that accompanies this hood is just as poorly constructed with dangerous sharp edges. It is a nightmare to clean. Never again a Viking Range product.

We never really thought too much of it until just recently when the oven would quit working after being on for a while, for example, when cooking a turkey etc. Through my own investigation, along with limited help from Viking I figured out that the oven door doesn't seal at the top. There isn't an adjustment to rectify this problem.
Viking suggested new hinges, at the bargain price of $120 each, which I fail to see making any difference as this has been an issue from day one. Not to mention I removed the door, inspected the hinges and could not find anything wrong with them. I strongly feel that the only solution to this problem is to buy a new stove, one that doesn't have the Viking label on the front. This will be our first and last Viking product EVER!

I'm a kitchen and bath remodeling contractor and I installed a Viking rvgr3305bss 30" gas range and, it came with 2 out of 5 knobs, were missing inserts, and called, and was on hold forever. Then when I explained the problem, they said it was probably Best Buy's fault??? Luckily they are sending replacements but it's a problem that should not exist. They should check these out before shipping them. I've installed ranges from others that are a third the price and have much better quality - very disappointed. Might I mention this range cost $3,600. Buy Kenmore or Whirlpool, they are of much better quality.

We bought a house that needed to be updated and remodeled. We decided that the one thing we would splurge on was kitchen appliances. We purchased a range, hood, and dishwasher from Viking. From the moment we began the install, we were disappointed at every turn. For starters, the company sent the wrong metal bracket that attaches to the underside of the hood where the exhaust pipe attaches. It took them THREE MONTHS and three tries to send the right piece!
The woman who answered the phone at Viking was useless and it took my husband days to of calling to get someone who could answer questions on the other end of the phone. When they sent the first replacement piece, we called the installer and had to pay him even though he couldn't finish the install because it was the wrong piece. When the right part finally arrived we had to take the hood down and start all over again. The customer support? As far as I'm concerned it was nearly nonexistent. The oven itself doesn't seem to be regulated properly. On a 350 degree setting, baked goods bake too fast or burn. I'm 62 and I've baked all my life. It's not me, it's the oven. And trying to slowly simmer on the stove-top? FORGET IT! Everything boils away.
The dishwasher is another story. It was part of a "package" deal and now I know why they were practically giving it away. I have two college degrees and I can't make this thing operate properly. No matter what I press when I open it after a cycle everything is wet. The other night my husband started the cycle before we went to bed. When I woke up in the morning it was STILL RUNNING. I am so disillusioned with the products but even more so with the VIKING Company itself. I would never recommend this company to anyone. AT these prices one would expect consumer service to be stellar. Instead I felt as if they resented our calls. SHAME ON YOU VIKING. I was so happy when the appliances arrived. Now I'm thinking of selling them.

Just describing facts: you can judge if you want to go through this headache. Bought in 2011; Model # CVDSC548T64SS. First problem: noisy vibrating fan required between 2012 and 2013 several service. First replacement fan had same problem needing replacement again. Now, in 2015 (oven is just 4 years old!!) the Temperature selector switch not working. Needs to be replaced (cost 435 $ + tax + service call). The service company has had to change this part 4 times already for other customers. I called BRIGADE but they refuse to consider this a defect.
Considering that this range costs at least 10,000$ I CAN NOT RECOMMEND SPENDING THIS MUCH MONEY FOR POOR QUALITY OF PRODUCT AND SERVICE. Just found out Viking no longer called Viking but BRIGADE! Daniel came a few times until June 6, 2013 to solve the problem of the noisy oven. Now Sep 11, 2015: control knob for temperature and mode not working clockwise only counter clockwise.

We have owned many Viking appliances over the years. Our most recent purchases have been a $5,000.00 freestanding gas range (VGSC530-4B) with 2 safety recall problems. Very inconvenient and required 2 days of my time to coordinate service people and repairs. Second, an undercounter microwave oven (VMOD240) which cost $1,300.00 and has a cheap plastic keypad. The finish started wearing off of the numbers within 18 months of normal use (by 2 people).
Now it looks unsightly and dirty even though it is clean. I just ordered a replacement keypad part which cost $90... ridiculous for a strip of plastic. A microwave this expensive should be of higher quality and last longer. Also, over the phone, Viking customer service representatives can be snooty and surly. Hello... We buy high-end products. Why? Because these products are usually well made and come with excellent customer service, but not VIKING!!! Our oven just stopped working. We paid $200 for an outside technician to come take a look... twice, because VIKING failed to tell them the first time that this was a recall issue. Needless to say, we are now going into month 5 of not having a working stove! Numerous calls and all we get is the same runaround. "Part on backorder, will send out as soon as it's in." Luckily the pot of boiling water did not go up in the air (the gas tubes held one side of the stove top in place). After repeated calls to the dealer, distributor and CEO's office I was told that since the unit was 2 months out of warranty it was not their problem. Amazing. Now I have 2 30" ovens that are about 7 y/o and they beep all day and night. However, they don't make (or repair) the electronics panel parts anymore. The module was replaced over a dozen times, and during one period where we were waiting for parts, the company installed a temporary 30" range of the same model, and it failed within 2 months for the same reason. The repairman set up surge protectors, ran a new electrical circuit, had the utility monitor for electrical surges, and had us use a door wedge to hold the oven door tightly closed (the last theory was that heat was escaping from the oven and "burning" the circuit board). Viking range model number: VGCC5366BSS. We purchased a Viking stove a little over a year ago and are very disappointed with the quality and design of the stove as well as the recommended Viking service centers. We selected the 6 burner stove which all have the same size (diameter) burners. The physical diameter of the burners are all too large for the typical household pot or pan. Except for our largest pot and frying pan, the flame and heat are concentrated around the outside edge (perimeter) and as you turn up the burner it only makes things worse. There is no flame in the center of the burner. Our pot handles are all damaged due to the heat going up the sides.
The second issue we have is the oven door does not seal. It is not flat and flexes when opening; so the top right corner does not seal. We have had 5 or 6 service calls to fix the problem with no solution. They say they are NOT allowed to order a completely new door, just the parts that are bad. Three out of the five service calls ordered new parts but they were not the correct parts and had to be returned. A couple of them had no idea how to fix it. They tell us it is very confusing when ordering stove parts from Viking. Believe it or not, you can't just give them the model number and order the parts off a schematic drawing; that is what we are told. I cannot recommend this product for the typical family or household.

First of all their hinges on the door break very easily, the door to the oven is very heavy and can withstand constant use. Once the hinges break, the oven door cannot seal properly and therefore the oven will not run. The broiler coils burn out very fast. The oven cooks well over temperature, so you can trust the exact temperatures. The lettering on the wall peels off very quickly. After the warranty lapsed, we had a 4th service call with estimated parts and repair at (00 for hinges. We were told the hinges were not holding the door to create a strong enough seal within the oven and the heat fried the control module. We contacted Viking Range, who agreed the hinges were a manufacturing defect and replaced the hinges.
Six months later, using the oven at 450 degrees for 30 minutes-- it shuts off and the ignition spark went off (sparking but not catching for about 30 minutes until we had to pull the huge oven away from the wall and unplug it). Another service call, another $900 to explain why the oven overheats-- this time saying the seal on the door isn't trapping heat and the heat is again reaching the control module. This oven is defective, we have never been able to use it above 450, which is why I bought it in the first place. The oven clock, timer or the self-cleaning has not worked since the time we bought the appliance. The dishwasher has worked but the control panel on the inside of the door has cracked and it has holes on the panel from what appears to be dry rot. Purchased this stove (VESC Professional 30 Freestanding) in April 2012 because we wanted a "Viking Kitchen". Big mistake. Here are the comments I sent to the chairman and CEO of the company after using the stove for two months: At the front of the cooktop there is a small gap/crack between the cooktops metal frame and the main body of the stove. Crumbs and other waste accumulate in this space, which is very difficult to clean. The GE range and many others have a completely smooth top, with no gaps around the cooktop, making them much easier to clean.
We ordered the optional backsplash, not realizing that it completely replaces the original vent grill which has become surplus. Rather than forcing customers to order both, it would be much more reasonable, and less wasteful, to substitute the optional backsplash at the factory and not send the vent grill, offering an corresponding price adjustment. Ranges costing much less have more features and are better designed. I cannot recommend paying Viking's very high prices (the stove cost over $5000) for a poorly designed product and this will be my last purchase of a Viking product.

I came home, oven was installed and working well. I asked Ben Franklin guy why the door were not aligned, handles not perfectly aligned, right door sticking out a bit. I asked 2 of my neighbors that were quite handy if they could adjust them both. Smart enough to say that would violate warranty.

We bought our Viking oven 4 1/2 years ago because I like to cook and wanted an oven that could stand up to that. Sadly, I have been very disappointed with the oven. From the beginning I noticed that the knobs on the front of the oven would get almost too hot to touch whenever I had the oven on over 400 degrees for a length of time. Two weeks ago the oven broke. We had to replace the DSI control panel at a cost of almost $700. The oven worked for one day and then broke again. I'm now told I will have to wait 2 months for another DSI control panel to become available and I can't be certain that is even going to fix the problem. When I told the repairman I would never again buy a Viking, he said I should have bought a Wolf because he repairs about 10x as many Vikings as he does Wolf ovens. Wish I had known...

I have a 60" professional quality Viking freestanding oven & range. It's never worked correctly - the oven "fails" with one or two uses, and this started within 24 months of original installation. I've spent over $1,500 on repairs (Viking said it wasn't under warranty, though the warranty clearly states THREE YEARS) and it still doesn't work. The Viking authorized repairman told us this week "Viking is not willing to take responsibility for their product and they've suggested you have the oven wiring replaced at your cost....I am so frustrated with Viking's treatment of our customers that I'm considering not working for them any longer." This is what I get for $9,000?

We bought our Viking range when we built our house and wanted good range. So we purchased a 36" with a griddle and 4 burners. The problems started 3 months into the lift of the range with the oven igniters failing. The serviceman said "these do wear out" and this is common - not something you really want to hear this early in use. This happened a couple of more times under the warranty period and as soon as the warranty period ended, I have my first $300 service call to replace them. After 2 of those calls ($600), I started replacing myself with Viking parts, and soon switched to non OEM parts from Ebay that actually lasted longer. Spent some time on the Viking service/support line on the root cause and was told that I probably had "dirty power," so I had a electrician check it out and reported all was fine. I have not mentioned that the burners also burned through and needed to be replaced twice in the course of this as well as well as the burner igniter that never stops sparking after the burner is lit.
The hinges on the oven door have now broken and rather than spend a couple of hundred dollars on this, we have decided to finally invest in a new range. It is most disappointing when you spend nearly $6000 on a range, but when you have to put in $500/ year to keep in working properly, it is just ridiculous. So today, we have decided not to invest one more penny in the stove and go shopping for a new range. Sad to say, but the experience of the "top notch' Viking was a very bad experience. I long for the old gas range from our last house. The best part is that this is my first "online" review. As I was looking for new ranges, I just happened across this discussion and if I can prevent one other person from wasting their time/money on a Viking range, I have done a service. I wish someone had saved us.

After 4 repairs on an original and 10 repairs on a complete replacement Viking double wall oven, we gave up. We couldn't spend any more time waiting the four-hour window for repairmen, and no correction to maintaining a constant oven temp. Two repairmen broke fingers during repairs, no lie. Viking warranty people lacked response often, and convinced me to keep trying. Also, the cook top grates have little rubber feet that kept melting and falling off. DANGEROUS! Replaced about 6 times. Ten years later, dozens of burnt or under cooked meals, cookies etc., we are finally able to and frustrated enough to get something new. The hesitation is the cabinet was cut larger to fit Viking. I purchased a Professional Series Viking Range this past summer. Used it very little until the holidays came and day before Thanksgiving, it pooped out. So long story short, they got it working for a few days then 10 days before Christmas and all the house guests, the oven stops again. Parts ordered over 10 days now and no one seems to know where they are. The people who are contracted to service the oven are most definitely not the problem, it is Viking. This company has bar none the absolutely worst customer service I have ever encountered. They do not return calls, they put you on hold for literally hours. No one seems to know anything about anything. Even their supervisors are bad. All you can do is leave a message. It is a true shame that a company that is representative of how things are done in the United States of America has screwed it up so badly. They are apathetic. Too bad because not every American company is this bad. I have had a much better customer service experience with my foreign made TV. We remodeled our kitchen in May 2010 and installed a Viking professional 48-inch freestanding gas range. I rarely used the large oven since there are only two of us. On 11/15/13 the gas would not come on. The service company came out on 11/23 and ordered DSI module. The part was installed on 12/12. This was too late to bake Christmas cookies to send to my son in Afghanistan. I complained to Viking and they paid for the part. The labor was 250 dollars. On 12/5/14 my oven would not come on again. Last time the oven was used was two weeks prior. I called the repair shop and was told labor and part would be over 500 dollars. I called Viking and after considerable effort they agreed to cover parts and labor.
But conveniently the part is on back order for 2-4 weeks. My son is finally home for Christmas after being in Afghanistan twice, Korea and other duty stations the last four Christmases. I will not be able to bake cookies for the holidays or Christmas dinner for him. I am so disappointed and hurt. We are very disappointed in the product. We spent over 10,000 dollars on it. Our kitchen looked beautiful. Viking appliances look great but don't last. Bought a wall oven in 2006 and had it fixed twice and then had to replace it with a Maytag in 2012 because the self-cleaning option burned up so much of the electronics that it was cheaper to buy a new oven. Our microwave, also bought in 2006, has been repaired twice and now we are going to replace it because it needs to be repaired again. Our beverage refrigerator either freezes anything close to the sides or can only keep things above 40 degrees, nothing in between. The thermostat was replaced but it made no difference. We are now using it as a cabinet for extra housewares. Our dishwasher works GREAT since we only use it about five times/year. The oven door on our large 6 burner stove has never been level but it works well enough for my use. My calls to Viking have produced nothing but "oh sorry, you are just out of warranty but here is your closest authorized repair shop". But the D3 has never worked right including a month after we purchased it. We had to cook the holiday turkey in the microwave, one part of the bird at a time. After contacting Viking, they sent out a certified repairman who had to order a part from Viking to make the oven usable. That took two weeks. From then on, the temps seemed to be accurate (we had to buy a hanging oven thermometer to tell), but the oven took forever to heat up. Even then, we couldn't cook anything then or now other than one item at a time and have it cook in the desired time. There are three racks in the oven... the instructions even show and explain how to cook using the three racks at once. However, the oven temps will not support using all three racks. We are also dissatisfied with the five upper burners. The center burner can only be used if the cooking pot/skillet is smaller than the large burner size indicates IF you are trying to use the other four surrounding burners simultaneously. You either use the four outside burners OR you use the large center one, but not all five at once due to size of the cooking containers. I am so disappointed. Our Viking sealed 6 burner cook top is about 8 or 9 years old. Five of the 6 burners are fine. One burner (front right of course) ignites, but keeps clicking the starter for all 6; after it ignites. Called Viking and then their "genuine parts" distributor for suggestions and parts. Bought a new sensor (with only comes with ring) for about $90.00 with shipping. Although they wanted me to buy a $50.00 tool to remove/install, I rigged my own special wrench to unscrew and screw in the ring/sensor. In short, the burner does the exact same thing it did before. A lot of time, effort and $90.00 wasted.
As an FYI: when we did this kitchen, we also got a Viking built in side by side refrigerator. After 3 defective units in less than 6 months, they gave me my $$ back. All units were bad in multiple ways. Gotta give them credit as they really tried to satisfy my wife and me, but they just could not. I have a double electric built-in oven approximately 11 months old. The temperature has never worked properly, and in August, I had a technician come out to regulate the temperature. In the process, we realized the convection feature did not work properly in the top oven (and later also in the bottom oven). After two trips to regulate the temperature, the technician also ordered a new fan for the convection portion. Shortly after that, we told him to order a bottom fan as well, as that was not properly working either. He called and told me the fan would take three weeks to arrive from the factory. I asked if it was in China, and he said no, he got parts faster from China than he did from Viking in the Midwest!!
I had bought the oven from Albert Lee Appliance in Bellevue, WA. I called their service department initially to complain about the temperature, and they put me in touch with the local technician, who is excellent! I never had any follow-up call from Albert Lee to see if I was being taken care of. As time progressed, and the parts had not arrived, I again called Albert Lee service, and later the salesman I bought the oven from to ask for their help. The salesman referred me to to his service department, and they said they would look into it. After three weeks, and another call to the service department, I have never heard from Albert Lee.
I finally called Viking, and after three re-routings of my call, was connected to the rep in Southern California, who told me to call the Northwest rep. He returned my call the next day, and promised to get the parts overnight so my oven would work. After a week and a half, and no parts forthcoming, he called and said he would replace the oven with a new one. He did mention receiving an email notification about bad convention fans in wall-mounted ovens (which I knew from three weeks prior from the technician!). At any rate, I am now awaiting a new oven (no delivery date yet). I would NOT recommend Viking to anyone based on my experience with their sloppy, untimely repair issues. I do have a Viking cooktop, and am happy with it, but hold my breath if something goes wrong with it after this experience. Also, I would not recommend Albert Lee Appliance to anyone, for their lack of customer care, and general lack of any follow-through on customer complaints. They sell and forget, it seems, so I will buy there no more.

Our business is residential remodeling. In 2006 we remodeled our home and spent extra money on Viking appliances (double ovens, cooktop and microwave), because of their previous reputation and because clients often look at our kitchen. We've had issues with each of the Viking appliances, but we've had the most complaints with the ovens from the beginning. They take a long time to heat up and the bottom oven does not heat up as well as the top one. The broil function is ridiculous because there is no prop on the door to leave it slightly open when broiling, so the oven gets too hot and turns off the broiler and my steak doesn't cook properly unless I leave the door completely open to keep the top coil hot.
A couple years ago the clock went out on the oven and when we tried to have it repaired we found the part had been discontinued after only 7 years. I haven't been able to find an aftermarket part so my self-clean and timed baking are virtually gone. When spending extra for high end appliances, I expect them to function properly and to last and to be able to find parts for them for at least 10-12 years. I've tried on different occasions to contact Viking, but have gotten nowhere. I know appliances don't last as long as they used to, but to quit providing parts on appliances after 6 or 7 years seems ridiculous in the customer service world. I don't recommend Viking to any of my clients.

Evidently, the oven door locks when the self cleaning feature is activated to prevent a child from opening the door and getting burned. Makes sense (except any opening of the door while in use would result in burns). One would think that a distortion of a bi-metal plate would enable this locking feature. Viking, however, uses some electronic mechanism (some cheap piece of crap) which breaks down when exposed to heat! GENIUS! This mechanism evidently breaks down often and the Viking-recommended repair man suggested breaking the lock mechanism to enable opening of door rather than repairing since it would break again! Eight years ago, we remodeled our kitchen and purchased four Viking appliances - two wall ovens, an eight-burner gas range and a microwave. We spent in excess of $10,000 on these products with the expectation of high quality and the hope that they would be life-time investments. All still function well and we have had no problems up until now.
Approximately 3 months ago the lettering and numbering on the oven control panels began to come off. I contacted Viking regarding this issue and was informed that I would need to purchase new control panels at a cost of over $100 each plus the cost of installation. Not only is the problem disappointing, I'm even more disappointed in the complete lack of customer care or support demonstrated by Viking. I was unable to speak directly to a Viking customer support representative, instead was directed to a regional supplier who was less than engaged or helpful.
The Viking call center is a maze of transfers and the corporate office phone number listed on the web site is simply a number that directs you to the same maze of transfers and "select-an-options". Viking manufactures a good product and should stand behind it with stellar customer service and support. Numbers/letters rubbing off on a product meant to last a life-time is unacceptable and Viking should be willing to rectify the problem with minimal inconvenience and cost to their customer.
I suggest Viking review the customer service/support policies of other high-end home product manufacturers and implement some of their strategies. In particular I mention Kohler. We are also experiencing a minor issue with a faucet we purchased during our kitchen renovation. Upon contacting Kohler, I spoke directly to a representative who immediately placed the order for the replacement part. It is being shipped directly to me at no charge. Companies who market themselves as offering high-quality products to discriminating customers should stand behind their products no matter how large or small the issue may be.

If you have invested in a Viking Oven or Range - you know that it is just that - an INVESTMENT. Or at least it is supposed to be. A $7,000 oven should not have any issues, not at 1 year or even at 5 years, frankly, with nothing but normal domestic use. I understand that the warranty is expired - and we didn't expect a completely free solution.
Admittedly, I am severely disappointed that a name like this doesn't stand behind the product for ten years! Our expectation was that the company could at least have a certified service technician it recommends - at a reasonable Viking supported rate. Not referring us to a technician that costs $200 JUST to come out and look at the oven - not even DO anything!? They are viking certified and can't tell over the phone if there is any common problems - of course - it will be $200 to come out for what will probably take 10 minutes. Then there will be the time to order a part and then come back out at $50 per 30 minutes for labor.
The reason we spend more up front on quality is to not have these issues. It's a shame that as I look online I see this Name is now riding on a reputation they no longer uphold. I see countless complaints about quality - and Viking is no different than ikea as far as standing by a product. Shameful.

I was baking and I fell ill by the fumes - the nausea was horrible. Shut the oven and called the gas company. They said carbon monoxide made me sick and they took the range's output measurements of that dangerous gas. The problem was the flame spreader located on the underside of the oven floor. It was bolted and all the bolts came loose - hence the large spreader fell into the flames. This is an atrocity that for the amount paid for a Viking that this design element should last for the life of the range! How many of us take out the oven floor on a regular basis? I would think welding that element to the underside of the floor would work! Viking has been horrible about customer service so I am taking to social media as well. I expect when I pay money for a system that responsible service results and that the item can last. If I could give zero stars on this rating, I would!

Our Viking Microwave that we purchased 2008 has blown a hole in the bottom of the microwave. I contacted three representatives from Viking, including the West Coast Office president, Bob Woods, who could not help us. We took numerous pictures and e-mailed them to him. He then talked with their engineers who had no idea what happened. This is supposed to be a top of the line product. I am extremely frustrated that I have been given the runaround with no answers. Our appliance repairman (Executive Appliance) said he has never seen anything like this, as the bottom of the microwave is metal. My husband and I live alone and are in our late 50's and do not put anything exotic in the microwave, so this is not an issue. PLEASE HELP!

All I can say is that I wish I had read these other reviews before buying our very disappointing Viking D3 Electric Range!!! It hasn't cooked right since the day we got it. Being on a special medical diet, I need to have all 3 of my meals cooked along with what I need to cook for my family. So, needless to say, my range gets a good work out. Thought I was buying a high end brand to fit my needs. Unfortunately, the oven does not cook to the proper temperature & takes forever to cook anything.
1 1/2 hours to cook thin chicken cutlets, almost 2 hours to bake a blueberry loaf that ended up being still uncooked in the middle & all the blueberries sunk to the bottom. The best was some birthday cupcakes I baked on the convect cycle which got over cooked on the outside & not done on the inside & actually exploded part of the tops off. I'm going to try & include a photo if I can. All I can tell people who are looking to buy a range, DON'T BUY VIKING!!!!! I wish I never bought one.

We have a 6 burner Viking professional range that is about 7 years old. In that time we have had over 10 service calls and replaced the igniters for the oven 3 times. Now again the oven does not work and will take over an hour to reach 375 F. I contacted Viking again and am now told that all of the times we replaced the igniters we did so with the wrong part number. They are telling us that we live in a low voltage area and have no data to support this. Long story short, we are now on the hook for another $600.00 repair. We have already spent well over $1000.00 on repairs and Viking will not support their products.

We purchased the top of the line (so we thought) Viking double wall ovens for our re-model. They arrived with broken glass in the 2 doors. The oven was installed, without the doors, into the custom built cabinet based on the specs from the manufacturer. It didn't fit properly, no matter how hard we pushed on the approx. 400-lb. appliance. There was nothing in the way of it being pushed fully into the cabinet, and finally we realized that the oven itself was twisted a bit so that while the right top corner and bottom corners fit, the top left corner sits out about 1/2 to 3/4 inch. It looks hideous but we live with it because the company wouldn't respond to our concerns. We assume the unit was dropped somewhere before it reached us.
Replacement doors finally came, one had broken glass again. New one came and it was installed. Then when I began using the top oven it burned the bottom and left the top undercooked. I thought it was me at first, since I may not have been used to this particular oven. Not me. It's the oven. If I use it, then I lower the temp. 50 degrees and hope for the best. I contacted the company from which we purchased it as well as Viking, but nothing was addressed to remedy the problems and, funny thing, our warranty expired.
Then there is the issue of the self-cleaning function which I used maybe 4 or 5 times. I don't use it any more. I am worried, because of the extreme heat coming from the ovens and what I can feel on the wood around it, that it will catch fire. We heard that the self-cleaning is a problem with Viking. Anyway, we limp it along because we spent thousands on it and to replace it is an expense we can't assume right now, but I tell everyone how much I hate our Viking ovens and that they should never buy one. At a home show convention several years ago, the Viking reps were out trying to drum up interest. I told them of my experience and they took my name, etc. with the promise that they'd help me... Right, never happened. Lousy product, lousy customer service.

In December of 2010, I had my kitchen remolded and bought an 8 burner, double oven Viking Pro range. When I owned a restaurant in the mid 80's we had a Viking range and I loved it. It cooked evenly and baked, roasted, broiled - fantastic. So Viking was naturally my choice. I paid around $12,000 for the range and $4,000 for the vent hood. The first year after it was installed, I did not use it much. My Mother became ill and I went to take care of her. When I started using it last year, it worked fine for a few months. Then in October of 2013, the oven started to cool down after an hour or so of cooking. Thank goodness I purchased a warranty for five years.
The Viking certified repairman came out in November 3 times until a part was replaced that was recalled or so they said. The ovens and burners worked fine when the repairmen left. Two hours later, nothing worked - not even the burners which had no previous problems. Nothing would come on. Three more times repairmen come out. Finally in February, it was fixed until May when it started to do the same thing. The oven would not hold heat. Two more service trips and two months later, it was once again fixed. 10 days later after cooking and baking every day, the oven did not cook properly. My cheesecake and pies were not done in the middle and the bottom crusts were uncooked. A 3-lb chicken took 3 hours to roast and still was not hot enough to be safe to eat. A week later, the repair service is out again. Only this time he only puts his thermometer in the oven and after 30 min. says its holding temp. properly.
Can't tell you how frustrated I am. I am not an amateur cook. I was a chef for 15 years and I used good ole recipes that have worked more than a thousand times in the correct time limits. Even after adding an additional hour to hour and a half baking time, pies and cakes were raw in the middle. Repair man doesn't understand it should be cooking properly. Hello, I showed him one of the pies I kept - nothing to say. Hate this oven by now. Can't understand, unless it can't work when used daily, for more than an hour. I will never buy a Viking range again. Bought my son a nice LG. Works beautifully - no problems at all.

This year went to use it and the downdraft wouldn't raise. Locked up. Warranty at this point 6 months remaining. Called one of the service repair companies highly recommended by the viking site. This company diagnosed the problem as the motor and track as defective! New part ordered under warranty however, the technician doing the install was brutal with the equipment manually pulling the downdraft up and bent the entire cap top. Now the whole housing is very unstable in rocking back and forth inside the housing and wobbles when wiping down the top bar. The initial company that DID the install DID a superb installment with everything tight and functioning smoothly. Now I have a downdraft that raises but is so loose and unstable it will surely go off track again...hence when the warranty of 6 months is over.....then 90$ trip charge plus a very expensive motor that is not worth investing in!!
I have had kitchen aid products that worked remarkably well and were very efficient, never breaking with minimal use. I will never purchase Viking again...not even a toaster. When I attempted to contact Viking, their customer service was beyond inept. They referred me to a repair facility who came out and said they would order parts and schedule a return visit. They never ever returned my phone calls and when I reported this to the Viking manufacturer, they said they could do nothing.
What are the problems? (i) I cannot turn on the inside oven lights. (ii) It takes at least 20 minutes to heat up, (iii) The inside temperature in all three ranges are different and bake unevenly. This means that if I put three trays of cookies in each of the ovens....at the same temperature -all convection @ 375' - 9 minutes. After 9 minutes, one tray of cookies is baked perfectly fine. The cookies towards the rear of the oven on the 2nd tray are burned, and the 3rd tray is raw and needs several more minutes of baking time. We purchased a 30 inch Viking Gas Range about 5 years ago and were so impressed with it we bought their dishwasher 2 years later. What a mistake. I called Viking to find local service and they tried to send me to a repair service about 100 miles from where I live. When we found the local authorized repair service they pulled it out and found a very small moisture sensor in the bottom tray under the dishwasher was to blame. The repairman could not get any information on when Viking could send the part. When I followed up directly with Viking parts, I was told they would get back to me, but never did. I was eventually told by Viking's authorized repairman to throw it out. $2,400 for a 3 year old dishwasher and it was useless. I replaced it with a Bosch.
Now it is the gas range. The oven won't light, the burners won't light first time and the grill goes out. We replaced the electronic thermostat ($378) and it initially worked, but has now reverted to pumping gas into the house without ignition or resignation if we manage to get it going. Poorly constructed. Gas ignition/temperature control does not work and has never worked. I purchased my range in 1997. Since then I have replaced the bi-metal gas valve 5 times and the two bake igniters 4 times and broiler igniter once. At present the right burner does not go on unless the gas valve is tapped manually with hammer or butt end of screw driver - so looks like the igniter or gas valve or both are no good again. Also, the oven door never closed evenly, leaking heat. It leaks enough heat to have burnt the exterior finish off the door. One of the oven door hinges has been broken for ever. The oven temperature is always inconsistent. The control knobs, since new have been loose with a lot of play in them. The oven floor is deformed/cracked from the heat of the burners. The wall panels are loose and sloppy and impact the sliding in and out of the racks. We bought a new house 3 years ago. The house came with 'all brand new Viking appliances', wonderful we thought... until we actually wanted to use them. We have a microwave, fridge/freezer, 6 burner range oven and dishwasher. Fridge/freezer and microwave have worked fine, so no complaints there.
Oven and dishwasher however, are a bit of a disaster. First of all the oven - the gas was coming in too far from the flame, so it would never light properly, or it would light and then go out after a few seconds, just leaving the click click click as it tried to reignite, and the smell of gas everywhere. Called the engineer and he repositioned the pipe so it would work properly (the original issue might have been the problem from installation and not a Viking problem, I'm not sure). Then after this visit, the fan in the oven makes a ting ting ting noise knocking against something if we try to use it - as we'd had the engineer out for the dishwasher in the middle of this, I couldn't face getting him here again, so we have lived for 3 years without using the fan.
Now onto the dishwasher which wasn't working when we moved in (brand new dishwasher), sometimes it would stop mid-cycle, other times it wouldn't go on at all. We had the service engineer out several times. First time he tried resetting everything, then second time he ordered a new electric panel on the front and came back and installed it later, then after that it seemed to work fine. Until yesterday, when the electric heater 'failed' - at least this is the word on the Viking website talking about this very issue on a product recall (which doesn't include our dishwasher).
As I sat about 3 feet from the machine, I heard a strange short circuit sound and a pop, seconds later there was smoke coming from the machine (which was running), I grabbed the fire extinguisher and switched everything off. Moved our two babies to another room, and pulled the machine out of the wall with my husband, smelt where it was coming from, and dismantled the thing to find a completely burnt out electric heater and wiring on the bottom. Very dangerous. We now have a semi-dismantled dishwasher in the kitchen and we are trying to get the part replacement - officially this is on a 6-week order lead time. More to come, but 100% sure that I would not purchase Viking again.

I'd love to jump on this band wagon right about now. I'm most specifically upset about the oven ignitors needing replacement, as they say, every 3-5 years. I can read about it anywhere now, but I wasn't told anything about ignitors needing replacement when I bought it. Our repair bill was about $500 to change out the bad parts. I feel lucky, I think ours have been done only twice and then now, so 3 times in 10 years. Our oven hasn't been in working order for about 4 months while in my very limited spare time, I tried to figure out what ignitors will work, and be as good as the genuine Viking ignitors.
My husband will soon be attempting to make the repair when the cheaper, similar Maytag ignitors arrive. He is so mad about the ignitor situation that he wouldn't allow us to call for the oh so expensive repairman to fix them. As he was assessing the ignitors/why the oven wasn't heating again, he took out the bottom pan of the oven and it fell apart into 2 pieces, with some partially melted insulation in between the two pieces of metal. Viking insists we need to buy a new bottom pan rather than my husband simply repairing that. It is $281. I will now be frantically try to find some of that insulation so my husband can spot weld the pan back together. It's weird stuff. I might try a fireplace shop. Thanksgiving dinner may be pretty sad this year. I would think for a $5,000 appliance that the manufacturer could help out their consumers.
Yes, we could afford the expensive repair if we had to, but we spent that ridiculous amount of money on the Viking, that it's a matter of principle. It should work for that amount of money. When we did our do-it-yourself major kitchen remodel in 2003 the Viking was the gem to us. Stainless steel with Brass accents. Most all of the finish on the brass accents has deteriorated from, well I don't know, heat or cleaning supplies, I guess. That part may be a poor choice on my part. I know the salesman did mention that, but it really was pretty at first. We still have the 1950's Magic Chef stove that came with our home in the basemen. I guess I'll have the hubby fire that up, if all else fails.
During this 4 months of being without a working oven, I have been using a variety of other small appliances. I will keep doing that even after the Viking is repaired to save the wear and tear on it. I have been using a counter top "Jet Stream Oven," a Pizzazz rotating pizza oven, and some outdoor grilling. I'd like to maybe be able to use the Viking oven to bake some Christmas cookies and roast a chicken now and then. Thanks for letting me vent, I feel better, not really.

I bought a fridge and dishwasher back in 2011. The fridge was fine, however, the dishwasher was just dreadful. After going through several channels, a Viking rep told me to pull it out and sell it. Eventually, the store where I bought it ended up replacing it. I then opted for a Miele dishwasher. In June 2013, I decided to try again with Viking. I ordered a range top, range hood with fan, and warming drawer. The range top had to be replaced as it arrived very badly scratched and dented. It was yet another ordeal to get it replaced. The warming drawer is sitting all apart on my living room floor. I've never had the chance to use it because the cabinet rubs against the drawer and screeches metal to metal when trying to use it.
The Viking rep sent out a panel to be screwed into the base of the drawer to keep it flat but that did not work. Now we have another part ordered but Viking has the flippant attitude of telling us they have no idea when the part will arrive. We purchased a Viking microwave, range/oven, dishwasher, and refrigerator in February 2008. The appliances were beautiful. Unfortunately, they did not last. Between February 2008 and November 2012, the oven had to be repaired twice. There was an issue with the temperature gauge both times. In addition, the microwave/range hood required multiple service visits, and at one point Lakeview (the authorized repair facility) took the microwave back to the shop and replaced every working part in the appliance in order to get it to function again, according to the repair person who worked with us. The microwave completely stopped working in 2010, and we purchased a temporary countertop microwave to use. In 2012, the dishwasher completely broke down and was irreparable.
In 2011-2012, I repeatedly contacted Viking Customer Service and attempted to get our microwave repaired again. After numerous unsuccessful attempts to get any sort of information or resolution (multiple emails went unanswered after I provided the information requested by the customer service agent), I contacted the Better Business Bureau. After Viking was contacted by the BBB, a representative contacted me relatively quickly. But Viking would only offer to cover the cost of the parts needed for the repair and would not cover the cost of repair, although we had already paid for the microwave to be repaired more than once.
Lakeview, the only authorized repair group in our area, charges $180 for the first hour of service and $90 per hour after that for repairs. In the end, we ended up sending the appliances to the junk yard and paid $1000 for a temporary microwave and dishwasher from GE, both of which function just as well or better as the Viking appliances when they still worked. We are now waiting for our Viking refrigerator to stop working. The water and ice dispenser in the door has already stopped functioning very well, so we do not use them any longer. In addition, the temperature in the freezer occasionally fluctuates for absolutely no reason. Sometimes it is 5 degrees, sometimes it is 0 degrees, or some other random temperature.
Additionally, when we purchased the appliances from a licensed vendor, we were informed that we were eligible for a small rebate for the appliances. We verified that we were eligible with the manager of the vendor, who confirmed that we would be able to obtain the rebate. Viking refused to honor the rebate. We will never purchase Viking appliances again, and we make sure that we advise our friends, family, colleagues, and acquaintances to avoid the company's products as well. When we redo our kitchen in a year or two, we are planning on purchasing our appliances from Wolf and Subzero.

One might suspect that the repairman didn't know what they were doing, but it's actually quite the contrary. They started the process by trying to eliminate the most commonly occurring problem(s) first, then moved on to the more complex issues. Bottom line, during the course of the multiple visits, the repairman said that it takes them an average of 4 to 6 visits to get Viking products working properly!!! (If I produced such an inferior product at my company I'd have been out of business by now.) One big problem that still needs to be addressed is the obnoxiously noisy fan that Viking provided, to keep the oven cool enough to not melt the mother (control) board. The range was purchased in 2005 for a limited-use home, with minute amounts of cooking. The igniters failed in 2011 and they failed again in 2013. We were told that we could expect the igniters to last only 2 years. Each replacement of igniters cost us over $500.00. In addition, we had to replace the hinges on the oven door for another $400. Viking builds a disgraceful product and I would never buy another one, nor would I recommend it to anyone but an enemy! To top it off, their customer service is more like customer torture. I was preparing bacon in the oven. As I have before, I used a jelly roll pan fitted with a cookie rack so the bacon fat drops into the pan. After the required Viking wait period, the broiler came on. The tray went in the second rack down. I smelled the bacon cooking and checked it; it was doing fine. I then turned to get a plate and I smelled gas and turned to see flames coming out of the oven door and the back vent up the wall. I turned off the oven but that did not stop the fire. We did not open the door. The flames were coming out the vent and up the tile wall. My husband got the fire extinguisher and doused the oven and top. I believe we were close to having a house fire. The wall was hot and thank goodness, we own a fire extinguisher.
At the time I smelled gas, I also heard a "whomp" sound. Perhaps the thermostat failed, something went very wrong. This could have been a disaster. We are very adept at handling situations but this left us a little rattled. Having had numerous problems with this Viking Professional Stove, e.g., disconnected wires, burners that don't work and need replacement, oven ignitors needing replacement, broken oven hinge, incorrect installation of stove parts, burners that have holes near the ignitors, burners that won't come on if I am preheating oven, etc. I contacted Viking Customer Support (?) and spoke with a very sweet voiced, concerned sounding woman and others. We were informed that their technician would call for a time to come by and "evaluate" the stove.
He immediately took out the thermostat and took it to his van for "testing" and then returned and reinstalled a part and said it was "no fault of the stove; it's safe to use." I called their customer support to tell them how I felt in detail and that we expected some sort of compensation/repair, etc. The response we received was to contact an authorized Viking repairman for parts/service. It would be an ordinary service call that we would be responsible for. This happened on May 12, 2013. I have not cleaned or used this oven since. Today is June 18, 2013. What recourse do we have other than selling it for scrap? BTW, I do have pictures on my cell phone. I firmly believe this stove is a hazard and a threat to health and safety.

Well, once again, burners, ignitors, you name it; everything falls apart on this 36-inch 6 burner $7,000 paperweight. Paint fell off of edges of doors, bottom kick plate rusted out, on and on. In the past, I paid a repairman to fix... normally an $800 to $1,000 repair. Since I lost my wife to cancer 2 years ago, and have an 11-year-old, I can no longer afford the cost. So the last time they went, I went online and figured it out. So I will be doing it again this weekend. Burners, ignitors, etc... Viking is a terrible company. Truthfully, I can't believe they are still in business. Their service department is a waste.
Comments they have made to me: "You cook too much, you are using excessive heat in your oven??? Most people do not use their ovens 5 nights a week???" They suck. Never again, and I tell all of my friends to not buy any of their products. The last kitchen renovation was $13,000. I'm going to a different vendor for the next renovation. Remember Roper? I still have one from 1947 that my parents gave me. It runs perfectly in our second home.

In 2007, when we had our hood installed, we thought the contractor installed it wrong because we could not get the waffle plates out to clean. A service technician was ready willing and able to come and take the whole thing apart, but thank God I also called another technician who came first and said that the motor was installed correctly but that there was something wrong with the design and the filters were not able to come out. I called Viking and they sent one of their technicians. This guy sat on the stove and told me to look carefully. He said, "You have to punch in this side while pulling down and shake it around a lot."
Needless to say, that idiot was out of my home in a flash. I had not yet paid for all of our appliances with the retailer: Viking 6-burner stove, two Bosch dishwashers, one Subzero fridge, one Subzero freezer, etc. A big bill. Eventually, a Viking big shot came to our home and redesigned pieces so that the filters could drop out easily. Customer service on the phone had asked me why I needed to take the filters out so often. Hello? I cook. Hate Viking. Today, June 5, 2013, the hood which has been turning on its own for a month with minimum heat blew. Wish me luck. Have to make one of many calls. Oh, and the burners in the oven had been replaced 3 years ago and I was told that I use my oven a lot, NOT. The burners cost over $1,000 to replace. Hate Viking.

Viking 6-burner Gas Range - Viking authorized repairman has been out twice for my 6-year-old Viking, each time to replace all ignitors and the seal around the door glass. This is extremely expensive and unbelievable that a commercial range cannot take a daily 20-minute usage of the broiler without wearing out in 3 years time. The excuse I was given was that most people don't broil and their stoves last much longer; and that they mostly go out to dinner. What kind of bologna is this? I wouldn't mind repairing it every 3 years because it really does cook food very well when it is working, but the last time I had it repaired, which was a week ago, it cost me about $800 and I expect it will be even higher in the next 3 years! We purchased a home with a Viking range and dishwasher. We have lived here five years and we have our dishwasher serviced at least once a year. Wires continue to burn up. We've placed major parts and the pump, and last night something in the front panel started a fire and melted a hole in the inside metal. We had a house full of smoke, but thankfully we were home before the kitchen went up in flames. We've already spent the cost of the washer in repairs and will not even call a technician this time. We will be buying a new dishwasher, but never again a Viking appliance.
Our range has not had all the same problems, but the igniters are unreliable. The oven takes 1/2 hour to reach the desired temperature. The door is heavy and we're just waiting for it to break. The writing has worn off in many places on the knob panel. These are just not problems you expect from "high end" appliances.
I do not recommend Viking. They are not worth the money and their customer service department is entirely useless.

After finding the tripped fuse switch, we tried it again with the lights off. It worked once and then the burner fell off as it had melted. Viking says that this $6,000 plus range actually won't let us close the canopy and heat it up. They said to just put the food on and it will eventually get done (have they ever tried a turkey or even a chicken breast). They say that people call in all the time with burned wires and knobs falling off, and that you really aren't supposed to warm it up (contrary to what the manual says). In fact, the canopy thermometer must be a decoration as it's never going to go up at all! I'd like to return this sucker, and I do accuse this company of fraud!

On 1/6/2005, I purchased a Viking 36 inch free standing range model VDSC3656BSS dual fuel, 6 gas burners open face, and a single electric convection oven costing approximately $7,000. This oven had no frills, no electronic digital displays, just a good basic heavy duty range. This was a major investment in a kitchen appliance for our 7th new home. My husband was very resistant to making that type of investment, but I stated it’s a “Viking” and very dependable. The 6 gas burners were great (and still function) and the electric oven (although was running cooler than other cheaper oven and had to increase the temperature settings by 25 degrees to achieve correct temperature) functioned. That was up until 3/8/13 when the electric oven failed; the heating elements will not get hot.
The oven on light turns on, the interior light turns on and the electric convection fans work but no heat to both (top and bottom) oven elements. On 3/11/13, a repairman was out and identified the defective part, the oven control (not the thermostat or the elements). The power is getting to the control but not passing through. The part was ordered the same day. There have been several follow up calls with the parts distributor. As of 4/9/13, there is still no replacement part. Both the repairman (a certified Viking repairman who has worked on Viking ranges for over 10 years) and I have been searching the internet and warehouses for this part.
I emailed Viking, no response to the emails. I called Viking customer support and related the repair issues specifically noting the lack of (availability of) a replacement part and asked if there is a problem with this range. Viking stated that there is no recall or safety notices for this range and provided a name and phone number of a parts distributor. I forwarded this information to my repairman; however to date, 4/9/13, no replacement part.
From internet blogs, this particular model with an electric oven (no heat to elements) is a common repair problem resulting in down time anywhere from 6 weeks to 6 months. Imagine a restaurant with a Viking range that is out of use for 6 weeks to 6 months! I am an individual who loves to cook and bake; Viking is breaking my heart! Okay, so the range is out for a month, I shouldn't complain compared to others out 6 months. However, an extended outage of any duration is not acceptable for professional ranges. A cheap range can be fixed generally the same week it is serviced, aren't expensive ranges deserving of something much faster than 1-6 months?
So what do I do with a $7,000 paper weight? I find it extremely difficult to recommend a “Viking” range. As of my posting today, the Consumer Affairs website has 266 complaints about Viking, numerous ones similar to mine. Is anyone considering a class action suit on this particular model for this particular repair problem? Maybe that would get some attention! In any event, the oven is down and out for the count. Next stop might be the scrap metal dealer! Viking what happened to you?

They’re now 7 years old and absolutely worthless. From day 1 both ovens couldn't hold a temperature. Set for 350, they would rise to 450. Viking’s solution was for us to install a $5.00 in oven thermometer so we could better control the actual temperature. We have had numerous repair calls, changed knobs, changed thermostats... no change... still junk! Wife can't use the self-cleaning because it either locks the door and has to be reopened with a service call or it runs for 5 hours and does absolutely nothing.

We bought a Viking 30" gas range with sealed burners 7 years ago. The oven stopped coming up to temperature after 3 1/2 years. The Viking people said it was probably the ignitors and that they normally only last 3 or 4 years. They recommended a repair company, and the range was repaired for $600. The repairman asked if we did much cooking and was surprised when we said yes. He said, "Most people who buy this stove don't do much cooking." This is outrageous! Why did we spend $3516 on a stove only to have it break down? We could buy a new stove or range for not much more than $600! And it would probably last as long as the Viking.
Now the ignitors are broken again, but this time I did my own research and found a local repairman who is charging a lot less than $600. Apparently, if you read the message boards, all the ranges or stoves now are junky and need repair after a couple of years. Next time we will get a range with dual fuel because I think the electric oven will last longer. We also have a Viking range hood for exhaust. It is really junky too, and there is no way to override the switch, so it goes on when it wants to, and then we cannot turn it off. That is unacceptable.

Viking should be sued. It's beyond me that this company that sells garbage to consumers for top dollar is still in operation. I guess if you never plan on actually using your appliances, then all is good and they look great. But if you would like an appliance that actually works and you intend to cook for family or friends, well then you're out of luck. You just flushed a chunk of money down the toilet! In 2009, we purchased all Viking appliances for our new custom built home. This included a refrigerator, separate stand alone freezer, 6-burner/griddle cooktop, double oven with warming drawer and microwave. This was quite an investment. However, since we cook and entertain so much, we felt it was well worth the cost for so-called top of the line appliances.
It's truly unbelievable that every one of our Viking appliances has fallen apart, broken down and needed repair - which is not cheap by the way. Here are just a few of the problems: knobs falling off the cooktop, griddle on cooktop does not heat to proper temp, lock on oven for self-cleaning won't lock, microwave fuses blowing out (the inside is all GE), every drawer in refrigerator is cracked, freezer drawers cracked and racks don't slide out properly. I could good on, but I really just want to make sure that consumers do not invest their hard earned money on Viking appliance. Viking appliances are for show only, not for quality or function!

I have bought Viking appliances for my past two kitchen renovations and I have to say I am disappointed in the quality of my latest Viking range; especially when I compare it to same Viking range we had before. The latest range makes a loud bang sound whenever we turn the oven on and it is heating up. It sounds almost like a small explosion and when it first happened, my wife and I thought something seriously happened with the oven and that it was faulty. We had a Viking technician come out to look at it and he informed us that it is becoming increasingly common with Viking ranges and that there is nothing much we can do about it.
I have to say that paying a huge premium on an appliance and being told that there is little we can do about it is not a very satisfying answer. It is also embarrassing whenever we have company over and they hear the bang go off with our oven and are surprised to learn that is something we put up with every day especially after spending so much money on a high-end item. I am not exactly sure what can ever be done about this but I must say that if or when we renovate our next kitchen, I cannot say that Viking will be high on my list as appliances to purchase.

I am writing you this letter to make you aware of the quality control, R&D and customer service issues that you have with your products and within your company. As you read this letter, you will see that I have purchased quite a few of your products and have owned eight homes which exposed me to many brands. I also cook almost every night. Unfortunately, my Viking appliances have been the worst appliance purchases I have ever made. The issues I have with my Viking appliances are what I would expect from a much cheaper brand. With the money I spent on your products, I expected your products to be of commercial grade and able to hold up to repeated use. Based on the blogs all over the internet, I can see that my issues are in line with a lot of other folks. I have outlined the issues of each Viking product that I have owned for your review.
In 2005, I bought a Viking 54 gas grill in Texas which I used through 7/8/2008. This item was a fire hazard waiting to happen. We used it 3-4 days per week. The grates that redirected the grease down to the grease pan were poorly designed. It was shaped in a V with round holes the size of a pencil eraser. The holes would clog and the grease and droppings would stay in the V. This forced me to clean them weekly to reduce the risk of fire (hardly ever had to clean the grease pan). Even after a thorough cleaning, you could not leave the hood down for extended time (even on low) or you would have a fire (my wife and post owner blew the knobs off the grill.). Fortunately, no one was in front of the grill at the time. I would never buy another Viking grill. The grates were a poor design. Weber and Wolfe have a much better design.
I had a Viking dishwasher DFB450 (serial # 031109D00003895 & 031109D00003878) installed on 7/14/2009. I have two of them. First, the technology in the motherboard creates more problems than the benefits. After trying to reset the dishwashers by holding down the buttons (in manual), I can only get it to work occasionally. I do not know of too many people that enjoy pulling out the manual to decipher the many error codes your dishwasher has. There has got to be a better way to let the customer know what to do when an error light flashes. At least once per month, I have to flip the circuit breaker to each dishwasher to reset it. This cost me $75 for an appliance technician to show me this. I have never had this issue with the other seven brands I have owned. There is no indicator light to let you know the dishes have been cleaned (i.e., green light next to the blue running light).
Since the dishwashers do not clean well all the time, we rinse our dishes off before putting them in the dishwasher and we end up running them again. Enclosed is a plastic clip that snaps in and holds a wire shelf for long spoons, knives, etc. All four clips are the same design thus preventing a snug fit causing the shelf to constantly fall/come undone. One of my clips broke (clip in itself is a bad design) and guess how much your company wanted to charge me to replace it? You can’t buy the clip. You have to buy the entire rack for $360 plus tax and shipping. You talk about putting the screws to your customer. Would you be happy if your clip broke and you could not replace it for a reasonable price? After about an hour on the phone with customer service, they finally authorized a new rack to be sent to me. How much did that cost you for the part and an angry customer? There is another plastic part (U- shaped) that snaps on to the right side of the dishwasher that also continually falls off. Again, this is what I would expect from the cheap brands, not a Viking.
My two and a half year old dishwasher (031109000003895) needs a new heater/wire harness (part#016403-000/P870612). This is something that is not needed by most dishwashers until much later in their life cycle (never had this issue with any of my previous 7 dishwashers including the one we owned in Texas for nearly 10 years). Also, when the non-Viking technician came out to look at my problem (popping the circuit breaker), he noticed a wire that had been crimped badly which he thought was the cause to the circuit popping. After running the dishwasher and watching until it popped, it was determined that the heater was bad. Was the poor quality (crimped wire) the reason my heater went out?
After arguing with your customer service department, I am having a Viking technician (Lakeview) come out to tell me why the wire is crimped and how it would affect other parts to my dishwasher. Unless he is a certified electric engineer, his word is not any better than the other technician. Unless this is covered by Viking, I am being given a $500 price to fix it. Before I throw that kind of money at a Viking product, I will replace it with another brand. Lakeview fixed the issue prior to me sending you this letter. Covered by Viking because of a bad harness. My last dishwasher of 10 years was a KitchenAid and I never had it serviced. We used it every day not every other day (have two) like this dishwasher.
Viking 6 burner stove with griddle VGRC6056GDSS (Serial # 050609C00015117) installed 7/14/2009 - First time I used the griddle, one side did not heat up and one of the control knobs did not work. Viking replaced both. The convection switch keeps popping out due to a poor design. Should have a nut on the backside to hold it in place instead of a cheap plastic catch. My wife and daughters were baking Christmas cookies in 2009 and had to open the windows (Chicago) to cool down the kitchen. After looking at the stove, I noticed one oven door stuck out more than the other one. A non-Viking technician came out and replaced the hinges and made other adjustments. We have not had that problem again when baking Christmas Cookies. I won’t even touch on the clicking noise from burners not in use and the sound of the gas being blown-sounds like wind in the oven blowing out the flame. Again, this gets back to my letters theme - this is what I expect from a cheap brand not a $13,000 Viking product. After reading hundreds of blogs on the internet, I have a feeling the worst is yet to come. My last stove and oven (10 years) was a Jenn-Air and I never had it serviced.
The hinges of my Viking refrigerator DFSB483 (serial # 051508R00010392) replaced to support the custom wood covers. If Viking is going to sell a refrigerator with custom built in capabilities, your R&D team should have accounted for weight greater than the heaviest wood cover. Heavy-duty hinges should have been the norm not the afterthought. My wife left Warming Drawer DFWD101 (serial number hidden behind custom cover) on high for three days and it caused the custom wood cover to separate where it had been glued ($100 replacement). I realized that leaving the warmer on was my wife’s fault. However, your R&D department should have realized that a custom cover would hide the control knob, thus out of sight, out of mind.
My last warming drawer had a timer which shut off the unit after a period of time. I ended up getting thermal heat foil and placing it between the warming drawer and the custom cover. I assure you that it will not be the last time my wife or other Viking customers leave the warming drawer on. Again, with the amount of money the Viking warming drawer cost versus other brands, your customers should not have to worry about these things. I would not have purchased the drawer if it wasn’t for the discount we received by buying all Viking. I had a feeling this purchase would come back and bite me and it did to the tune of $100 and a lot of legwork to get the cover fixed and prevent future issues.
Viking Microwave DMOS200 (Serial # 05772W205079) - Over heated and caused the glass plate to break and the tri-wheels to melt. I replaced the glass plate and the Tri wheels for around $30 but the turn motor was destroyed. Viking replaced the motor at no cost to me. The problem was due to a sensor not responding to the issue. I was told by the technician that there were several sensors. We were lucky we caught it before a fire broke out. Is this a quality control issue or a fluke? I have no issues with my Viking Dishwasher DFVD042 to date because we hardly use it. It’s in the basement bar and we use it two to six times a year.
As for the Viking customer service, after spending a lot of time on the phone with your customer service about the enclosed part, I was told that Viking would send me a new rack at no cost. Three weeks went by and I called customer service again. I was told that an Email was sent to Lakeview. I called Lakeview and they had no record of the email. I called back customer service and they informed me that they would resend the request. The next day, I called Lakeview and they still had no record of the request. I called your customer service again and had them copy me on the third request (which I never received). The whole point is that I had to do all the follow up, do your employees job and waste my time (not to mention Lakeview’s). Your customer service team should have put me on hold or a conference call and resolved this issue on the spot.
I called customer service about the heater element on my dishwasher and they gave me the cookie cutter response that it was out of warranty. I explained the crimped wire and all the other issues I had with Viking products and that I was very upset because I would have to pay a Viking technician to come out to dispute the observation of a reliable technician that I used and had already paid for. I was told that Lakeview would call me to set up an appointment. After not hearing from Lakeview for 30 plus hours, I called your customer service again to find out when I could expect a call (I needed it fixed with Christmas coming up and knowing I was going to have lots of guests). I was informed to call Lakeview directly.
Again, an already unhappy customer was asked to do your employees job and waste more of my time. After leaving a message with Lakeview to call me, I received a call 60 hours after I had my initial call to your customer service department. After talking with your customer service department, I get the feeling they are there to do a 9-5 job and after they hit send, they are relieved from all obligations related to that call. There is no sense of urgency to take care of an irate customer. Maybe this is the norm within Vikings customer service department because the internet blogs and the issues I have with my purchases tell me you have a lot of irate customers. Lake view does a good job.
As you can see, I have had to deal with several issues concerning your products. To say the least, I am a very unhappy customer and will be very reluctant to buy another Viking Product. I am also informing everyone I know about the Viking quality and customer service issues. I wrote this letter in hopes that you are not aware of the quality issues your brand is having as well as the lack of vision by your R&D department. I just don’t understand why your company would risk the loss of customers over the cheap parts you are designing and putting on your expensive products. Being an owner of a company myself, I just don’t get it. Below is Viking response, a couple of generic I- am-sorry letters:
"Both dishwashers have been fixed since these letters at a cost of approx $200 each (motherboard went out on one-labor only, rubber gasket came off the other parts/labor). There should be no reason a rubber gasket comes off on a $1700 dishwasher. Also, the icemaker's water line froze and was replaced with a better one. How long have icemakers been sold to the consumer?"

The new range was delivered without the fan retrofit to cool knobs. This was a known problem! Oven again was not maintaining temp. We own several high end Viking range products - a professional series wine cellar, a professional series steam/convection oven and a professional series microwave. We installed these in mid-2009 into a new home we built. All had several months of downtime on more than one occasion, while "parts" were on order. First, the trim kits on the stacked microwave and steam oven did not and still do not match, very noticeable difference that 3 subsequent replacements never addressed (we were copied on an email form the regional manager that the Swiss sourced steam oven never matched, but no one gave a rat's **). The compressor on the $7,500 wine cellar failed (2-3 months waiting for parts), then the motherboard on the steam oven failed (3 months), then the control panel on the microwave (3 months). Now the microwave does not work again. The steam oven failed a 2nd time.
Does it ever get any worse? You bet. The servicing company hates dealing with Viking. They are put on hold for 30-40 minutes constantly and advised us to never ever buy another Viking range product. As I am also a CEO, I am absolutely appalled by the deplorable quality across the spectrum provided by this company. We also have Miele, Asko, SubZero and LaCanche products in our kitchen - all have performed flawlessly. Viking range should be avoided at all costs.

I have the top-of-the-line built-in outdoor lighting barbecue grill complete with rotisserie into adjacent gas burners. My flavor grids rusted quickly. I sought warranty relief and contacted customer support at Viking. I made initial contact with Jennifer **. She referred me to their distributor (Gateway Appliance). I sent pictures of the rusted out parts. They referred me to Jennifer again to discuss the warranty. After 20 initiated phone calls over three weeks leaving voice messages each time, she failed to respond to any of them.
I finally left a message for her boss. Jennifer reluctantly called me after that. She stated if the parts are made out of porcelain, the warranty would not cover them. I let her know that the specific parts that were rusted through were stainless steel and not porcelain. She promised to research the issue and call me. She never did. Instead, I received an e-mail from Gateway saying that Jennifer had told them warranty would not cover porcelain parts.
On further research via many Viking parts distributors and Viking repair companies, I discovered that Viking had never made the specific parts that were defective on my outdoor grill out of porcelain. The runaround has been outrageous. I am still awaiting a response from Viking. I will be filing a Better Business Bureau complaint. This company degrades the image of "made in America.”

I wish I had read these reviews before I bought my brand new Viking refrigerator this year. Here is an excerpt from my letter to the editor of Consumer Reports Shop Smart Magazine about Viking. They had a piece in their latest October 2012 issue on recalled dangerous products and the Viking refrigerator is among the top 10 and clearly verifies the company's lack of responsibility.
Letter to Editor: "I wanted to thank you for your recent coverage on the top 10 Dangerous Recalled Products and the companies that are in the Hall of Shame. I am a very dissatisfied Viking customer and was an owner of the refrigerator that was on recall. The fridge was recalled because of faulty and dangerous door hinges. Viking replaced the hinges and then soon after, the replacement parts themselves were on recall! The Viking recall center called me to offer me a new fridge at 50% off. I took them up on the offer because my fridge was over 10 years old and is a built-in. I thought it would be nice to have a new fridge that would be similar to the old one and fit into the built-in space in my kitchen. I got the new fridge in February of this year and have constantly had problems with it overheating and spoiling my food. I have had it repaired many times under the warranty but it continues to have the same problems. The Viking techs seem to be at a loss as to how to permanently fix it and have now been slow in getting back to me.
I continue to have a fridge that I cannot count on and a company that I cannot count on either. I have had to purchase a small dorm-size fridge to put in my high-end kitchen right next to my high-end Viking fridge that doesn't work properly. I was not surprised and somewhat relieved to see the article in your magazine about Viking. I now know that I am dealing with a company that fails to report defective products and continues to produce defective products. The lack of responsibility that this company shows to their customers and to the consumer is appalling and they deserve to be in the Hall of Shame. I am writing to their President and CEO and am enclosing a copy of your article in my letter. Thank you again for looking out for the consumer."

We purchased a complete Viking kitchen package from Pacific Sales and it was delivered on 11/04/2008. Appliances were installed in late November. So far in less than 4 years, we have had problems of malfunction with every single appliance. But by far, the worst is the 30" stove # VGCC5304BSS. On March 31, 2012, we had to have the convection oven motor replaced at a cost of $661.19. After it was replaced, we realized from the sound of it that the motor had not been working properly from the start. We also asked the repairman to look at why the oven would sometimes ignite and other times, nothing for days. He was not able to recreate the problem and left about 4 pm.
At 5 pm, I went in to turn the oven on to cook for a party and, no oven. He returned the next day and said he thought it was the control board. He returned on 5/5/2012 and at a cost of $447.36, replaced the control board. Less than four months later, 9/4/2012, I went in to cook dinner and turn the stove on and, once again, nothing. I have tried repeatedly over the last few days but zilch! I had a cheap Hotpoint for 20 years that worked better than this piece of **! I am once again waiting for the repairman to come out this Saturday and I fully expect I will once again be asked to shell out several hundred dollars. I think everyone who has a problem with Viking should complain to the store where they bought it until Viking gets heat (no pun intended) from the places they expect to push their garbage off on people who still believe in the Viking name. As, for me, never again!

For the love of God, do not spend your hard earned money on Viking appliances. I purchased an entire kitchen appliance set from an authorized dealer in 2009, spending about $20k. Within the first year of purchase, my top-of-the-line built-in fridge stopped working and it took them more than a week to repair and thank God it was under warranty. A couple of weeks ago, my dishwasher, which I have used maybe 20 times, stopped functioning. I called Viking and discovered that it only came with a 1-year warranty and that I was responsible for the labor portion. **, I spent almost 2 grand and you need to tell me that it only comes with a 2-year warranty. The following represents my email conversations with the Viking rep who basically doesn't give a ** about a customer who just 3 years ago gave them so much business:
My first email to them: “Purchase Date: 08/05/09; Type of Appliance: Dishwasher; Model Number: VDB325SS. Dear Sir/Madam: Less than 3 years ago, I purchased an entire kitchen appliance set consisting of fridge, stove, hood, and dishwasher totaling close to $20k. However, I am writing to you today to express my dissatisfaction with the purchase of the dishwasher referenced above. While we have only used it about 20 times, I discovered that your company only warrants the parts for 3 years and not the labor portion. Consequently, I had to pay $305 in labor to repair the unit. To be specific, through Viking, I contacted Airflo in Van Nuys, CA, and their technician came out and upon inspection, he stated that, due to lack of 'frequent use', the 'circulation pump' had gone bad. He said this was common for this type of model and to use the dishwasher at least once per week.”
“The technician further stated that had I purchased the appliance just months later (early 2010), Viking would have covered both parts and labor for 3 years. Upon hearing that, I became extremely upset at the fact that here, I spent almost $2000 for a 'professional brand' dishwasher that came only with a 1-year labor coverage which seems kind of unreasonable as this warranty is comparable to basic units costing $200. I honestly do not think I should be obligated to pay the $305 especially when 'months' later, you decided to extend your coverage. In all fairness, taking into consideration the extraordinary circumstances, Viking should reimburse the labor charge which I paid. Thank you for your time and I hope to hear from you soon.”
Their response: "I'm sorry for the issues you have encountered with your dishwasher. As far as the warranty, the changes to the Viking warranty were implemented on 05/01/11 not in 2010. I'm sorry for the misinformation you have received. Your unit would have a full 1-year warranty from your purchase date. At the end of your warranty period, you would be responsible for the charges. Thank you.”
My response: "I believe my concern was not the 'exact' date when Viking implemented the change in their warranty policy but rather your company selling a defective product, specifically, the circulation pump in my unit. It seems this is a bit too common issue based on my readings online and according to your Viking 'authorized' repair technician statements. In fact it is so common, that the technician always carries around a couple of circulation pumps in the van when he goes out for service as more than likely, this model dishwashers stop working because of the circulation pump. In any instance, this is not a monetary issue for me, but rather a principle one. Also I don't appreciate the corporate response I received from you since as a customer, I think I deserve more. Thank you."
As of yet, it has been more than one month and no response. Anyone considering purchasing Viking Appliances better think twice. This company, through its retailers, promise you the world but when you have any issues, they are nowhere to support or address your concerns. I am going to make sure that all my friends, family, co-workers, etc. know about their dirty tactics.

I haven’t had the first glass of chilled wine. I called corporate and was told that sometimes it happens. Not much concern was shown. They made sure that I knew that the cooler has a 2-year warranty. Viking stove should be recalled. Since the first use, we have been having the same problems all of the other people have been having with the stove. It should be recalled because it is a danger to use. Our oven gets so hot that it has melted the stove wires and control box. It has warped our oven door so it doesn't shut all the way, and the heat reflector (not sure if this is correct name) in the bottom of the oven is cracked and buckled. The oven gets so hot that if you touch the outside of it, you will get burned. The oven also fills up with gas and makes a popping sound or just blows the door right open! Mr. Appliance of New York City was recommended by Viking as the authorized service representative. Between November 2011 and June 2012, I have had 8 visits by Mr. Appliance. They replaced a thermostat control (twice), replaced the circuit board and still haven't found the problem. Amount paid by that point was $670. At the 8th visit, they said the reason my oven wouldn't work was a broken oven door latch, broken (they said) during the self-clean cycle. Additional expected cost, $460, except I have never once used the self-clean cycle. It was most likely broken by the repairmen in their attempts to find the source of my problem.
In dealing with Viking Customer Service, they didn't even bother to be charming. The people I spoke with were defensive, unsympathetic and unpleasant. Maybe they have had too many fed up customers and are tired of all of us. They simply told me to try another authorized service dealer in my area. Frankly, this is outrageous. I had expected more of a company that charges $5,000 for its products. The quality of the unit is low. The customer service was poor and the authorized service dealer (Mr. Appliance) is even worse. What I don't understand is how this company is still in business? There needs to be someone to start a class action suit against this company. The burners work, but there is no such thing as low.
