I took the plunge and decided to buy Valspar from B&Q, the range of colours decided it for me. I read a lot of bad reviews about this paint, but figured I would find out for myself. I had a newly skimmed dining room, all fresh plaster and gave it a couple of coats of crown white emulsion. I opened my tin of paint, no smell, no stir, just got on and painted my walls. FANTASTIC paint. 1 coat covered, so easy to apply, very little mess, unlike Deluxe and Crown, there was no spray off the roller. You could not tell that I had recently painted, there was no smell. I love this paint, I am very impressed, and I will definitely buy it from now on.

I hired a painter to do my new house. I believed in my mind that your paint would be the best so I really didn't mind pay extra for it nor paying for having the walls washed and primed (also Valspar) - a job that should have taken 2 weeks at the most. Now 4 weeks later I'm still buying paint. I thought it would take 2 coats and 1 gallon a room (the rooms are not that big) - not so. It has taking 2 gals a room on top of Valspar primer 3 coats so far in each room and now today I'm going back to buy more paint (2 gallons). I have wasted my time and money. Also held up from other things getting done so now we are looking at another 30 days just to start moving in... I have never felt so cheated in my life through a company. Needless to say I will never use Valspar again nor will my painter or friend, family or anyone else that will hear what I have to say about this... Thanks for broken dreams and make this the worse nightmare I have ever had.

Spent £70 on the premium Valspar paint at B and Q, cleaned the previously painted walls and put several coats of white on first. When painting the premium paint it's blistering even on originally painted wood covering pipes. Took it back but B and Q won't refund £70 until it's been tested and a fault has been confirmed. I have five days until new suite arrives and at work . Definitely won't recommend Valspar paint or use it again!

Bought this type of paint due to the price and the name Valspar. The paint is very thick and I thought that by being thick and having the name Valspar cover and go, it would be simple cover and go. But I guess looks are deceiving and the term you get what you pay for are so true. Never will buy the paint again. It has taken 4 coats to paint a small apartment size kitchen. Never again. Thanks Valspar for wasting my time.

Used Valspar 2 in 1 on Kitchen walls stripped of wallpaper on the wallboard underneath. Even though Valspar states that this can be used on wallboard or wall stripped of wallpaper IT DOES NOT WORK!!! Tried a roller, pad and then brush on a test wall. Down stroke fine but upstroke clumped or removed parts of the down stroke. WHAT A DISASTER. Had to remove with sponge/water (only some came off) and then cover with white primer to restore to wallboard color. This paint came with a rebate that I never received. Trying to figure out if Lowe’s will refund or whether I have to go directly to Valspar.

I have now broke down in tears over the smell that is so bad I can't even go in my beautiful Art studio. This can't be happening to me. So please read my story and let me tell you what happened. We built this studio with everything new, New drywall, new floor, just everything. And we painted it with Valspar Signature paint. I have been painting interior and exterior for more than 40 years. So I do know what I am doing. I should have just used Benjamin Moore paint. It has been over a year with this horrible smell!!! So I hired two painters to buy Zinsser low Odor oil primer - it did not work. Then repainted with no VOC. Still smell it right though. So I really needed to do a process of elimination.
I had my vinyl floor picked up and put down commercial tiles - no it is not the floor. Then today we had pulled the wall air conditioner and heating unit, cleaned and used bleach and coil cleaner. It was not the air conditioner. Now it was time to put all my art chair, my easel my frames everything. I cleaned the studio of all dust. This room is really cleaned. The bleach smell was getting to me but I did not care. I just want to paint my artwork so bad. The building is in my backyard with three Church windows from the 18 hundreds with window boxes. Flowers are now full and beautiful with a 5 ft Angel outside between the windows. Painted the outside myself yellow. And everything an artist could ever want.
But you know the saddest this I guess of all is I am disabled and I see my dream and I can't go in there. Today I cried so hard and gave it my all. I hurt myself from lifting and all the things my Doctor does not want me to do. I don't know what to do. Can someone help me? But for sure it is Valspar that caused all this sadness. Thank you for reading my story

I first tried Valspar Ultra, with the walls primed and everything under showed. Tried to apply a second coat and nothing. Returned the product and was told at Lowe's I did it all wrong before even asking how I prepped the walls. Was told that there really is no primer in any of the paints and maybe I should try the signature series. I am going back to the store to discuss options with the store manager as it is totally unsatisfactory as to the outcome of the finished product. The ultra white is more of a white wash than a actual paint. For the amount of money paint costs and the amount of work I put into prepping the walls, I expect a product do what it claims. Cover in one coat.

This paint should not even be sold. I had to put on two coats of an almost white, light blue over a white primer for it to cover. There are roller marks and uneven sheen everywhere, despite using a very high quality roller. The dry paint scrapes right off the wall with your fingernail. I'm going to Lowe’s to ask for a refund, and will never buy paint from them again, since the quality of their paint can't be trusted.

We are currently remodeling my house which has been in the family since it was built in 1955. We decided to go with Valspar paint for the convenience since we were at Lowe's for almost everything else. Initially we purchased their Ultra line in semi-gloss and immediately began experiencing several issues with the paint. Each room was primed with the primer recommended by Lowe's and applied with the rollers that were also recommended. The first room was painted in a medium green and the paint didn't go on evenly, leaving areas that looked smeared. A second coat was applied and it did not resolve the problem.
The second room was painted in a taupe that left an uneven appearance as some spots were shiny and others were flat. After a second coat was applied, there was no change in the appearance. The ceiling in the second room was covered in roll marks and looked horribly uneven and after 3 coats just kept getting worse. The third room was painted in a dark blue and the paint consistency was very watery. While applying the paint with the recommended roller, the paint went on bubbly and looked like foam. I had read that sometimes paint will roll on like this but that the little bubbles pop and fill in. That was not the case here. All the little bubbles that popped left little holes in the paint exposing the primer beneath and the bubbles that didn't pop dried as a bubble. A second coat was applied and we experienced the same issue.
At that point, we had called Lowe's and had been in touch with Valspar corporate office. We were in limbo waiting for a return call from the regional Sales Rep. After several repeated attempts to reach this person, we finally were able to talk to the rep. Because of the severity and complexity of the paint issues in each of the rooms we insisted that Valspar send someone to our house to investigate the matter. The Regional Sales Rep. as well as the Regional Vice President of Valspar made a visit to our home and both of them were baffled as to what could have caused these issues as we had done everything correctly and to recommendation.
Valspar replaced the many gallons of paint used for these rooms with their Signature line paint in eggshell and included an extra 2 gallons in a dark gray for the living area of the house. We were told that each of the rooms needed to be re-primed and assured it would only take 1 coat of this Signature line paint to cover the walls. That information was gravely incorrect as each of the rooms still needed 2 coats of paint after the walls were re-primed. Each room now had been painted with over 7 coats of paint and with barely mediocre results. In the living, dining and kitchen areas, the dark gray Valspar Signature paint was applied to freshly primed walls with the most dissatisfying results. The Signature line paint did not adhere to the primer and is literally peeling off the walls in sheets, even after extensive surface prep.
Now we are left in a horrible bind as we can't re-prime the walls with the peeling paint and then apply another top coat. In order to remedy the problem, we have to peel and remove all of the paint off the walls down to the primer then prime and repaint again with a paint that is definitely NOT Valspar. It has taken us 11 painstaking months to paint the inside of this house and now it's completely destroyed. We are absolutely infuriated with Valspar and disgusted at their poor quality of paint that has left the interior of our home in horrible condition with an enormous amount of work ahead of us to rectify the damage.
Valspar paint is absolutely the worst. Please don't waste your time, effort or money on Valspar paint as it will only cause you severe grief and major regret. Thankfully we have switched to Sherwin-Williams for the remainder of the painting we have left and have not had a single problem with their paint. Thanks Valspar for turning this remodel into an absolute nightmare!

We agreed to make badly needed cubes for my niece's classroom. We are almost finished but the paint is horrible. Valspar said I put the 2nd coat on too soon. I waited the required time. Humidity is at 42% so that is not the problem. Valspar wants me to buy their primer and re-paint. They also said to wait another 24 hrs to see if the spots dry. We are out of time. The first coat went on smooth and looked good. However, you could still see the original primer and it definitely had to have at least two coats. I will NEVER buy Valspar again. They also said it takes a long time for black paint to dry.

After a recommendation from a friend, I tried the Valspar 4000 in a flat finish in two rooms. The first room was the kitchen and I had Lowes mix a gallon from a Sherwin Williams chip. The color was a relative dark mushroom color called Studio Taupe. I was very happy with the results. After it dried thoroughly a couple greasy spots bled through, but this was my fault for not decreasing properly. A quick touch up with a brush fixed the problem. This paint covered the previous bright gold color very well and ended up using much less than I anticipated.
The second room was a very dingy bathroom that was also painted the same gold, except in a high gloss, as the kitchen. Again, I used a color from Sherwin Williams, this one is called Resolute Blue. Coverage was not as good but I suspect that's because the tint base was much lighter and I was going over a relatively glossy surface. Overall, I'm very pleased with this paint. It's in no way a premium priced paint but for $13.88 per gallon, I was expecting a LOT less quality. I'd love to have a Pratt & Lambert budget on this job but since I don't, this was a very very good product for the price. I hope that others who might use this paint have equally good results.

Same as the other post, it took me 3-4 coats and the ** at Valspar requested pictures. Now, who even thinks to stop between coats to take pics not knowing that it would take 4 coats of paint? It's simple. Their product does not do what they claim it does. It doesn't perform. I wouldn't recommend it nor will I ever use it again. A paint job that should have taken only 7-8 gallons of paint took 13 gallons, cost over $300.00 to paint 988 sq ft of house. Do yourself a favor. DON'T waste your time or money.

Painted kitchen ceiling after priming. Used Valspar Ceiling paint with new 3/8 nap roller. After 1st coat, paint left (what I call tire marks) roller marks and start and stop marks in the ceiling. Waited until it dried, no change. Tried 2nd coat with different Lowes roller. After drying, no change. Tried 3 coat with 2nd gallon, after drying, no change. Tried 4 coat with another roller. After drying, no change. Switched to BEHR used less than 1/4 gal looks perfect and like pro job. Used a roller from the same initial batch purchased. Called Valspar, they wanted pictures. Reasonable request but not possible since the job is finished. However, I still had the Valspar cans and they never asked for the lot # or any number on the gal can. Enough said for lifetime warranties.

This product foams severely when applied regardless of type, nap and manufacturer of the roller cover. It does not level well when applied to a horizontal surface and whether applied by brush or Graco TrueCoat Pro II sprayer. The sheen of the coat is uneven and barely semigloss. Drying, even after 3 weeks seems incomplete as the surface will still dent with the touch of a fingernail. I returned a gallon of the same product due to the these same issues and the problems persist.
Most unusual is the fact that after sitting over the weekend, the contents separated with a one-inch clear oily layer on top. This is base 33817 Base B, gloss, and was manufactured in Feb. 2014, according to the customer rep I spoke with. He tried to be helpful but offered no solution. Perhaps there was freezing of the product during the winter. I am left with a job, renovation of a research laboratory, which, to my eye, is subpar and an embarrassment. I will have to choose a different paint manufacturer in the future, perhaps Sherwin Williams.

I bought two gallons of Valspar 4000 to freshen my bedroom which was an eggshell white. The color I chose was called Basket in the neutral yellow spectrum but appears bright cream. It took 4 coats to get full coverage and there are still certain areas which look splotchy. I am very disappointed in this product. I have painted many times in my life and have completely remodeled (down to the studs, hanging drywall and painting and never had this problem with any paint I have used in the past).
Valspar 4000 has almost a translucent appearance on first coat coverage. It took me from 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. to complete two walls in my medium sized bedroom due to having to paint a coat then wait for it to dry, then paint another coat then wait for it to dry X4. Normally a room this size would have been completed in the same amount of time and work. I still have two more walls to do (which will have to wait until next weekend). I have one more gallon to use in order to complete the job. But I honestly would rather have gotten a refund (which would have been fair considering the extra time and effort). If you are looking to paint your home avoid purchasing this product.

I have always used Valspar Signature paints and have never had a problem with coverage. Although I have noticed recently that the paint seems not to be as thick as it used to be. Even with the fact that my husband and I are both smokers, the Signature paint always did a good job of covering if I spent the time to wash the walls down. I recently decided to paint a bedroom and was going from a light beige to a light blue color. As always I washed and rinsed the wall before painting. I decided to try the new Valspar Reserve and have to say that I am very disappointed in the coverage. This is the first time in using a Valspar product that I had to apply two coats. With only one coat it dried splotchy and definitely needed a second coat. I will not ever buy the Valspar Reserve again.

I used the new Valspar Reserve purchased from Lowe's to paint my daughter's bedroom. Previously, I had always used Benjamin Moore or Dunn Edwards paint. I found the paint difficult to use and had to do three coats to cover, even though it was a light color. A few month later, I needed to paint my bathroom. I went back to Lowe's and told them my complaint about the Valspar Reserve. They recommended trying the Valspar Signature primer + paint, which I did. My contractor actually did the painting and advised me NEVER to purchase it again. Again, the light color required three coats. While painting the raw wood vanity, the paint kept bubbling. Very dissatisfied. Should have stuck with Benjamin or Edwards.

If I could rate this product/company with a negative 10 stars I would. I was in Lowe's randomly and bought the Valspar primer +paint on a whim (I usually shop at the Depot). The paint was an Easter basket violet for my daughters room in the 4 bedroom house we just started renting in San Diego. We are now literally dealing with a living nightmare. The fumes a month after painting have caused not only fevers in both my children but headaches and nightmares with my daughter. Our 4 bedroom house has turned into a 3 bedroom over the last month. From what I'm reading in posts from other sites is I'm going to have to take her room down to the studs (in a freaking rental!!) that nothing will take that chem smell away. We threw out the paint can or I would be at Lowes this moment screaming at some poor employee. Both my wife and I are desperately trying to look for the receipt to see if there is anything we can do through Lowes.

It's not often I am stuck using Valspar products on a job because I consistently warn customers to not buy it because it constantly fails to perform in the way a premium level paint should. I have been painting steadily for 8 years and on and off for 20+ and outside of Glidden products (which are junk but cheap), Valspar is the second worst paint I have ever used. It fails to cover properly, fails to dry properly, seems to have a bad habit of running and sagging and peels off with tape. When it comes to retail level paints, I generally recommend Behr's Ultra line which is in the same price range and is the opposite end of quality - dries quick, cuts in well and never leaves patchy spots and dots. It's pretty simple - and from a professional painter - do yourself a favor and steer clear of Valspar products. You're only wasting your time and your money and in fact can cause significant damage to your home.

Having been in the paint industry for more than 20 years I have never come across such a low quality paint. Trusting that the Valspar name on the Cover & Go meant quality was a mistake. After spraying the walls and trim 2 times and not getting the coverage I needed I was forced to buy more paint. However rather than buying more of this product I went with the Valspar Ultra and was able to get the coverage needed in 1 coat in a room not yet painted at all. My husband and I have renovated/built/restored several houses over the past few years and I have always used Valspar paints. I was always pleased with the finished product and never had any problems. Last fall we began the restoration of a very old house and once again, I went back to proven products including Valspar paints. I am having a completely different experience this time. Not only does it take two to three coats to cover primed walls, but the paint stretches apart (as it does when you paint latex onto oil based paints). It also comes off. I painted my kitchen cabinets after sanding and priming the doors, and I've had to go back and paint several spots where it's peeled off.
I am using neutral colors so there is no problem with deep colors that can be an issue, and I'm using the Ultra White right out of the can for ceilings and trim. I have had to put three to four coats of white onto primed white trim just to get the white to even out! I have one more room I need in which I need to use Valspar. After that, I'm looking elsewhere. Sorry to say goodbye to this formerly stellar product. PS.. also, forget color matching. Using exactly the same base and computer codes at Lowes, the colors come out shades different. Ugh... exasperating.

We were painting a window box in our dining room, and were expecting this to be a rather simple job. The wood had previously been stained and we sanded it down to bare wood. My husband applied the first coat following the instructions on the can to a tee. The paint was drying faster than my husband could apply and was leaving brush marks. We waited four hours, and because the brush marks were so severe we tried to lightly sand, at which time the paint balled up and still felt like it was not dry. It was 74 degrees in the house when this project was started.
After applying a second coat the result was the same. We waited until the following morning and the paint was still tacky. We, again sanded the entire surface and tried to use a foam roller to eliminate brush marks. The paint now looks like it is blistered, it has no sheen to it. It is so bad that we are going to have to start all over, once again. I will never use this paint again.

When we noticed the situation and went to move the curtain aside, we found it had adhered to the wall. (This was almost two weeks after the wall had been painted.) I have a $40,000 addition on my house. I have been in the construction industry for over 20 years doing commercial and industrial construction. I have gone to school for electrical, plumbing, HVAC and for construction management. My drywall contractor primed my walls using Valspar primer. I painted most of my walls in other rooms with other brands of paint over the top of Valspar primer and they really turned out great. I was in the neighborhood of Lowe's one night and decided to stop and buy some paint for one of my rooms. I told the girl that I want a semi-gloss in latex and showed her the color that I wanted. She gave me Valspar Ultra Paint + Primer. I used this paint to paint my room. There were a few spots on the wall where the paint bubbled.
I wiped that area off and repainted. The paint dried really quickly and I tried removing the tape and it was pulling the paint; it was peeling off with the tape. I stopped taking the tape off and looked on the internet to see what I could do. I watched a video on the Valspar website and it showed a girl removing the tape by scoring it with an X-Acto knife. It looked like she was having trouble removing the tape and it was pulling the paint off the wall. I went to Lowe's to see what I could do and when I told the girl that I had a problem with the paint, she just looked at me at said, "You did it wrong," and walked away. I never got a chance to tell her what the problem was. I called the store manager and he was to get in touch with the Valspar rep and never did.
I called Valspar and told them what the problem was and they tried to tell me that I did it wrong, then they said I used the wrong primer. When I told them what primer I used, they changed their mind and said that my drywall was too cold. I told them that this drywall was in my house for 3 weeks and the temperature was 70 degrees. Then they tried blaming the rollers that I used and I said that I used Purdy rollers. Then they were blaming my masking tape and I said that I used the green Frog Tape. They blamed everything but the product.
I have been doing this for a long time and this paint is junk. This paint is awful. It ruined my walls. It is impossible to sand this paint. When you try to sand it, it balls up. It does not cover in one coat and why put or call this paint and primer when you have to primer walls. It is very misleading. This paint is peeling off my drywall. The best they can do is offer my money back for this paint. I want my drywall replaced.
If it is peeling now, you know it will peel off more later. After dealing with Valspar and Lowe's, I do not recommend this paint to anyone. Valspar will blame you and not their product. Please go and buy Sherwin Williams Paint if you need paint!.
Valspar had cost me a lot of money. I had to stop my construction project until I got answers from them! I had to hold off on my flooring! I am not sure if it is worth taking them to court. I am looking in to it. I am going to spread the word about their poor quality of paint and customer service. This company should not be allowed to sell poor quality paint like this.

The "trigger" when depressed is radially moved to depress the valve on the top of the paint container. This rotation does not allow a seal between the trigger stem and the valve on the paint can. Consequently, the paint runs from under the trigger stem into the circular recess on the can's rim. Paint accumulates and when the can is tilted, the paint spills out in the form of drops which wind up on my shoes, the floor and the item being painted. I will stick with Rust-Oleum from now on. The retailer, Ashley Furniture in Reno, NV remains open but under a new owner. Guardsman claims since it's under new ownership that it's not the same retailer. I went back into the room and started to paint. I got very sick right away. I closed up the room and called the pros the next day.
They came in and also got sick from fumes in the room and informed me that the room was toxic. I called again and they sent a rep to my house. He also started to get ill upon entering the room. He informed me that he had bought another can of paint, same batch number in Southern California. Upon opening the can, the smell was bad. He informed me that the paint was going to be recalled and that Valspar would be taking care of this situation. I got a letter from their lawyers about 10 days later stating they tested their paint and nothing was wrong. They were not going to pay for damages.
