I bought Valspar because I liked the June color of the month called Snow in June. It's sort of mauvy pink, very soothing and warm, which I like and it was on sale that week from Ace Hardware. It goes on smooth and I only needed one coat to finish the wall. The finished results look like a professional did it. It's the best investment and it brightened up my dining room. I would recommend this paint to anyone who wants a clear finish and have already advised a few friends that are planning a paint job.

My experience with Valspar has been excellent. I purchased it because it was the cheapest brand. I do not have a lot of money to spend on home improvements, therefore, I often look for an acceptable inexpensive brand. But I wish Valspar was sold in stores such as Walmart.

I purchased two gallons of Valspar semi-gloss Aspire paint and primer - exclusive ever*luxe - low odor, zero voc. I ended up in the ER with breathing problems, chest pressure and headache. Had an EKG to rule out heart issues, x-rays, breathing treatment and missed work. I can't sleep in my bedroom for the smell of chemical. Right now with inhalers, **. No one knows how to get smell out, except take out all of my walls out my bathroom and replace sheetrock and start over. That is not in my budget!!! The paint container clearly states to low-odor which I asked consultant over and over low-odor for me and my special need son. He was truthful, but the product's label is NOT!!!

I used to be a die hard Sherwin Williams fan but after trying the Valspar Reserve line (paint and primer in one) I was hooked. I went over a very dark hunter green, with satin shadow stripes to make a solid color in a very light, almost white pinkish color. One coat and it was covered solid, over the flat and over the satin stripes no problem. Even in the sunlight there were no thin spots, or streaks showing through. I am truly impressed by this paint and will always pay a little extra for it. To be fair I have a good painting technique from many years of trial and error and moving too. Anyways... Best paint, hands down.

I had a dismal experience with Valspar Optimus Semi-gloss paint. I can believe it was an isolated case of bad paint, but I did have two cans tinted: A gallon of white and a quart of medium tint base. Both had the same problems. I might add that I bought the paint from a hardware store in California, which has laws that affect the composition of all paints sold within the state. I was painting kitchen cabinets, with the doors a contrasting color from the frames. I had scrubbed all the surfaces with Spic-and-Span, lightly sanded everything, then wiped it with clear water. I primed any spots that had needed repair.

Right out of the can, the paint began drying too quickly. Before I got a single panel finished, the paint pulled when I’d try to smooth it, leaving brush grooves that never leveled. Within the first week we found the paint scratched easily. After it had been on for 3 weeks, in normal wiping of splashes, the paint began rolling off with the rag. I had to use a kitchen scrubber and rub all the paint off all the surfaces, and it peeled off the primer just as it did off the un-primed surfaces. Then I sanded the surfaces and began again with a different paint from a different store. This took about a week’s worth of work, but the results were excellent. I contacted Valspar, who were very polite and apologetic. They offered to refund my money, but made no effort to find out what went wrong with my paint, nor even contacted the store or store chain about it.

The paint had obviously begun reacting in the can, whether because of bad formulation, being exposed to heat, or being too old. My advice to purchasers is to be wary if the paint you’re using seems to be drying too quickly. Any quality paint should allow leveling and have good adhesion. If, in the initial stages of a job, you can’t go back over what you’ve painted within a reasonable time (let’s say 3 minutes) without leaving brush grooves and a dull finish, stop using the paint.

I like the quality of the paint, the color and it goes on smooth. The other paint goes on not as smooth as Valspar. It is good to use with a paintbrush or roller. Because of quality it goes on and you do not use a lot of paint. No chipping or peeling. But I wish more stores can have this paint. It is only in very few stores. They should sell in Walmart and Target. It is around some of the prices in these other store. Even though the paint is priced a little high, I have not found a paint that I like any better yet. My overall experience with the paint has been very good. There are many colors and with television advertisement allow me to gain knowledge about purchasing the paint.

I liked it, it covered well and was done in one easy step. It was easy to apply and looked professional when done. Great coverage and no strong odors. It was pretty quick drying. They have beautiful vibrant colors. And I'd like to see even more original unique colors.

Valspar is well known for the quality of paint that they make. It is not only sold at hardware stores but at other places such as WalMart. The fact that it is not only paint but primer is with it just makes it have more quality. Valspar is one of the best paints you can choose from. This brand has many different colors of paint. Many are already premixed ready to use. The color stays bright and beautiful for years. With the primer added it took less coats to cover. The paint rolls on so evenly and smoothly. Not having to wait in line to have a color mixed just adds to the experience to make it nicer. Love it.

I had a great experience with this paint brand. I had originally purchased a Behr paint but it started bubbling and it was VERY thin when I put it on the walls. It would of easily taken 3 or more coats to get the proper coverage. I bought a can of Valspar paint to paint over the Behr paint and it covered it in one coat and was a more consistent color. I like the vibrancy of the colors and the different array they have to choose from. Also, in my experience, Valspar paints take less coats than any paint brand I have used. Their in store display is eye catching and they make it super easy to choose a color. But, it's a little on the expensive side and I wish I could get it at a variety of stores as opposed to just Lowe’s. But overall, I'm happy with this product.

I had heard a lot of good things about this brand from family and friends, one of whom is a painter. This paint went on smoothly. It covered completely without having to use primer with it. The color was brilliant and it was exactly the shade I picked out. I loved the bold colors and the way I could mix them to get my own unique color. It also holds up to sunshine and washing (my 2 year old great granddaughter got crayons and had fun!). So far it holds up well, has not gotten lighter or dingy.

It has very good coverage, only need to use one coat which saves on time and money. I was able to complete my project. I had so many people tell me that it looked like a professional did the paint work. Valspar is somewhat expensive but you get what you pay for. I wish it was less expensive. I selected this brand because it is sold at Lowe’s which is my preferred home improvement store. The first time I used Valspar I was impressed because of its true one-coat coverage. It covers in one coat and does not spatter and run like cheaper paint. It scrubs well when it gets dirty. Lowe’s was able to match my new bedspread perfectly. I would like it to be a little less expensive so that I could paint more often to change up colors. I would like it to not leave open spots, but that is mostly my shortcoming as a painter.

Many options are very similar and offer comparable features. As a non-professional painter, ease of use and quick application are paramount to my use. I do not have any problems with the finish, look or style; the requirement for multiple coats and long drying time were undesirable. Overall, the product was acceptable. Below is a pic of what I had to do after using the Valspar Furniture Paint on a wooden computer desk. Had I had Hazardous Area Yellow Tape, that would have been appropriate to tape plastic to cover the entire room, containing the painted desk. The odor was bad, I mean bad enough to make my chest hurt, likely the lungs were being affected. The odor did not immediately become bad until a few hours later. Right out of can, it had little odor and proper ventilation was fine. As the evening wore on, things got worse, the next day was like a tour of a paint factory. I do not recommend this paint as it would ruin any space you put your painted project in. I have no idea what is happening to my furniture in the toxic space with the painted desk. After 3 days, it is as bad as the first when I approach the plastic enclosed room. This stuff needs to be taken off the market... Some serious illness can result.

Last year, whilst visiting our local B and Q and having several pots of Dulux paint in our trolley, we were persuaded by staff there to purchase Valspar Paint instead, as it was on offer, and was, according to them, more than comparable in quality and finish. So we swapped our paint over, and applied it to our hallway. A year on, I must say how really disappointed we are with the product. We did save some money, but we have painted other rooms in Dulux and are very pleased, but the Valspar paint is of far inferior quality and finish. The paint is flaking and very difficult to wipe clean, unlike the Dulux paint. It also has a strange dull finish to it, like a very cheap paint, and smells.

We are extremely annoyed that we didn't stick to our usual brand. We approached Valspar, and after many emails going back and forth, supplying pictures and being asked for minute details of how it was applied, what was the substrate, etc. we are fed up with complaining. I bought some Valspar exterior paint (around $50/gallon) 3 summers ago to paint my exterior wood railings. The railings were cleaned and sanded well before painting. It was advertised as one coat, stain blocking, paint plus primer, advanced, mildew resistant, lifetime warranty. I have been very disappointed with this paint... After 3 summers, the paint is flaking off in chips and there is severe mildew on my railings! I should have bought a cheaper paint and just planned to repaint every couple of years... I feel that I wasted my money by buying the expensive paint!

Upon contacting Lowe's, I received a phone number to call. When I did (even though I had the original can), they wanted the receipt (no longer have) and pictures of the deterioration (which I could provide) when I bought the paint to be covered under warranty. After 3 years, I do not have the receipt. I will buy a less expensive paint next time and just plan to repaint after 3 years! They offered to replace the paint if I sent them photos (I see no need of re-painting with the same paint... it is just a waste of my time). If you decide to buy this paint after reading this, I would suggest saving the receipt and putting in your safe and keeping it for the rest of your life!

Valspar paint what a joke... I used this paint back in 2016. After about a week it began to smell. First I was should that my dog had peed on the walls but then I could smell it higher up on the walls. I contacted Valspar. They told me that I must have DAMP in my walls that's why it smells. I told them that the walls were are new as I had just converted my loft, then they said that I had not prepared the walls correctly, which I told them was rubbish as I have been painting/building for over 25 years and had never had this happen before. Then they said because I didn't use Valspar undercoat that I was to blame. I Then had to explain exactly how I prepared the walls from the plastering to missed coat and top coat.

Each time I had emailed/phoned them I was talking to someone with NO painting/building skills. After being passed to B&Q then BQ HLC they told gave me a gift card £200 to buy some paint Alkali sealer which they told me to do which I did and repainted my halls. At first it seem to work as it was winter when I did repaint it. Come February 2017 the smell came back. So I started emails to Valspar and B&Q. Valspar kept passing the buck telling me to repaint again with Zinsser sealer and said they would compensation will be paid if they is proof that the paint is at fault.

I asked for my house to be painted by a contractor as I was not willing to do it for a 3RD time and to compensation for the time, stress this and caused my family. B&Q head office told me the matter had reached deadlock and as I had taken the £200. The matter was closed and told me speak to The Ombudsman. Now the papers/TVs report prove I was right back in 2016. They offered me small amount of money. I said no and am waiting to speak to Valspar high level complainants team...

Kindly note most companies use marketing companies that place positive reviews on feedback sites so as to jew the customers into buying products and guess what, it actually works... Most customers get duped into buying the brands and products we would not buy if we knew the truth about them. Customers are hood winked and they call this marketing. Anyway, Just wanted to contrast any bit of the false feedback on sites regards Valspar paint bought from and sold in B&Q.

We recently painted our rooms in the house. I've done three rooms in our house with Valspar and it's been the worst nightmare ever! The paint is watery and very unlike any other paint. Never mind good paint. The Valspar Goes on very poorly and the coverage is patchy, the colour is very weak and poor, The finish you get is absolutely poor. We decided to try Valspar paint due to encouragement from B&Q staff and also because of its American reputation. Please also note this paint sold in the UK is very different to the one in America. Also please remember that most items in America are overhyped to market the products.

Anyway, despite having read all the bad reviews. We thought "It's only paint, surely it cannot be that bad". And because of the reassurance we got from B&Q staff saying this is the best paint ever... Yes we bought this paint and we now regret this as the worst decision ever... We have decorated many times before, have used Dulux, Crown and Wickes and never had any problems at all. Well, there is always the first time... The Valspar paint, this stuff is incredibly thin and despite well prepared perfect walls left a lot of patches, we left it after the first coat as it looked like it would need at least another three. We felt it looked so bad we got some more paint Berger paint which was much thicker and was perfect. For sure we will remain with the tried and trusted normal British brands, we don't want to waste any more time or money. We would recommend that everyone remains far away from this Valspar paint as it's absolutely pathetic.

My problem began as with so many others by using a Valspar V500 paint. Within a week or so the horrific smell began, we blamed pets, kids etc but eventually discovered it was the feature wall in our kitchen! We tried to contact B&Q but they didn't return calls so we posted on their Facebook page and sure enough we got a reply promptly. They forwarded our complaint in to Valspar and we received a standard email saying it was a rare issue, 1 in 100,000 consumers affected apparently!!

Well we must be unlucky eh! They said we needed to purchase Zinsser BIN sealant and seal the wall to trap the horrendous fume. They also said they would refund the cost of this and offered a voucher for more Valspar paint!! We declined that offer, never again will I be using their horrendous products around by precious family. They said they understood (Really !?) and would cover the the cost of new paint. In the meantime the awful fume affected my health, I experienced breathlessness which continued to get worse over the weeks and resulted in a chest infection and hospital tests.

Valspar don't respond to this in an email, they ignore any mention of the effects their known faulty paint has on anyone. They simply reply to say they will pay by BACS the sealant cost and then new paint - not the paint which caused all the issues. Shocking! I have now taken this up again with B&Q as they sold me this product which is not fit for use so I feel they too should be held accountable for this. I have told them both that I will take this matter as far as I can, to the papers to social media and tell as many people as possible to avoid this product. AVOID at all costs.

We returned the paint to B&Q who advised that there was a bad batch which contains too much of a chemical and the headache will eventually pass. I would strongly advised people to avoid using Valspar. B&Q will provide a full refund even if it's a bit used.

Absolute garbage. Concrete paint, 2 coats and it washed off with NO ONE stepping on it for over a week. It rained 4 days after we put it on... It went on like dollar store paint... We thought... "Oh well that's how it is..." Well it lived up to its name. So we went to LOWE'S to take advantage of their paint guarantee which turned out to be BS as we were told to call Valspar. Our call was returned and as usual we were told we must have applied it wrong... Seems after 40 years and 5 homes we do not know how to apply paint... It was only a $20 can of paint.

We requested a refund and they told us we had to send in an email, pictures, receipts, UPC codes... They made it such a hassle that it was not worth our time and the person that handled our call might as well have worked at Walmart. If you're reading this buy your paint at Walmart... They have CIL which is an old established paint company and they make great paint. And if you need to return it, Walmart would treat you better. Avoid Valspar. PURE GARBAGE.

Just adding to the hundreds of other reviews on this paint! We painted our daughter's bedroom with the paint (V500) in the 2nd week in May 2017. The paint was difficult and sticky to apply and needed two coats. After a few weeks we found that there was a strong ammonia smell when the room was hot. We could not trace the smell initially but when my daughter started to complain of a sore head we moved her out of the room. We then tried to look closely at where the smell was coming from and found it was coming from the paint on the walls. The first thing I did was to search the internet to see if anyone else had an issue and found many had the same issue.

Last night I went back to B&Q to explain what had happened. The sales assistant had not heard of this problem but spoke to her manager. She said it was a 'well known problem' and gave me a dedicated helpline number to call. This morning I called the number, which was just the B&Q helpline number, and spoke to someone who took all my details and passed it to Valspar. I will update on what happens with Valspar but the question is why is B&Q still selling this stuff if is a well known problem?

I bought this paint this weekend and painted my entire living room and hallway. I also used my usual brand choice, Crown, to paint my kitchen and utility room (a small unventilated space). The areas with Crown paint are fresh and unaffected. The smell in my living room and hallway however, is become worse by the day. Apparently as my windows are open and the weather warmer this is aggravating the problem. It smells of cat wee/dead animal and I don't own a cat!!! We have had terrible headaches and I can't bear to sit in the lounge! Nowhere at point of sale were we advised of any potential issues (though many forums are saying one should seal the walls before or after to kill bacteria??). And then repaint!!! Besides for wasted effort, £71 spent after a lengthy decision for the "perfect shade" and make the best informed choice... My house is no longer refreshed as I had intended. Absolutely shocking product!! Do not buy!

A few month ago we decided to repaint the whole house (except for the lounge). We bought the scrubbable Valspar paint. The 1st annoying thing was that the staff at B&Q did not think of telling us that we would need to recoat at least 2 to 3 times on each wall! A different member of staff did tell us that info after we had already bought at least 4 large tins of the stuff. The painter we hired mentioned the problem of the coverage being sticky and streaky and that it was not good paint to actually do a smooth coverage with. Eventually job finished, and lots of money paid out on expensive paint, at least 3 coats on each wall.

About a week or so after completion was when I noticed unpleasant cat wee odor! I was going round smelling carpets, curtains, doors and when I smelt the walls, which was when I could smell the unpleasant odor. I am at my "wit's end" which is why I thought I would google this problem, and hey presto, I am not going round the twist as there are similar reviews. I am now going to take my complaint to local store from where we purchased our many tins of Valspar paint and see what they say. To be honest, I would like to repaint over all the walls with another brand but we cannot afford it as we spent a huge amount on the paint and then we had to pay for a painter to apply it to the walls. Would not be buying this brand of paint again and would tell anyone else not to either!

I painted my 11 month old daughter's bedroom with Valspar paint on top of lining paper two months ago. I began to notice a smell of sulphur about three weeks later when we had that really hot week a little while back... This smell, a smell that reminded me of the putrid smell of being in a sulphur bath abroad. It was my partner's mum that confirmed the smell that I had been experiencing. We smelt all the linen, every cuddly toy, every item of clothing, the brand new carpet, the new curtains searching for the source of this stench. And then my partner's mum smelt the walls (each painted a different pastel colour) and bingo, finally I had found the source of this nasty stench.

I had been very excited to get my daughter into her own bedroom, but I have since had to move her back into our room, as not only do I not want my daughter having to sleep and play in a room with that horrid smell. But most importantly, I am uncertain as to whether this stench could be emitting gases that could be detrimental to my daughter's health. Valspar have since promised to refund me the money for an alkaline sealant (Zinsser BIN) of which they advise will eliminate the smell. This refund is to be made upon proof of receipt of which I am waiting for a back payment to be received. There has been no apology for such inconvenience caused by Valspar but they have told me that should I have used a primer paint on lining paper before applying their wall paint.

However, I cannot thank B&Q enough for their help with the matter, as they have allowed me to return the 4 paint tins in exchange for a credit voucher for the full price of the paint purchased without receipt. I was a little concerned though that both companies played completely dumb, claiming they were unaware of the bad reviews escalating against Valspar. I have had a purifier running in the room with the door closed and have not allowed my daughter to use the room. The smell went away with the purifier running constantly day and night, but returned after I turned off the purifier one warm day to test if the odor had disappeared.

I now have to apply this sealant and wait to see if the smell disappears, if not I will have to strip back the lining paper of which I have been told will it be easy as it is so freshly laid. I will post another review and inform anyone interested as to whether the sealant advised by Valspar actually removes the smell. I have read that this is not just experienced by customers of Valspar but people who have used other paint suppliers, but I shall certainly never used Valspar products ever again.

Hi all. Read all the comments about the Valspar paint. Have been doing A LOT of reading around this as we have had the same issue. Renovating our house. New stud walls with new plaster are fine when painted. Freshly plastered walls or painting over old walls however is a different matter. Gas/egg/sulphur smell developed a week or so later. Worse with windows open and warmer connections. This is due to something called wall odour phenomenon where bacteria on the existing wall react with the paint and release the smell. No long term health consequences apparently.

Seems to be a new issue since paint companies now have to use low volatile compound paints. High volatile compound paints used in the past killed the bacteria hence not really an issue in the past. We treated the (completely refurbished) room with a alkali resistant (oil based/high volatile compound) primer and then painted 2 coats on top which has sorted the issue. I'll be contacting B and Q as spent a fortune trying to rectify this issue. Hope this helps.

As per the previous reviews here we have had a terrible experience with Valspar paint purchased from B&Q. We painted our 3 year old's bedroom in a beautiful blue colour and the paint went on well. However, a couple of weeks later a strange smell began to develop. Like other consumers our initial thought was that the cat had peed on the carpet (which he has never done before in his life). So carpet cleaned. Smell remained... so we took each piece of furniture out of the room. Still the smell continued! In an empty room I smelt the walls - horrendous stink emanating from the walls. I called B&Q 3 weeks ago now and am still waiting for a response. Having called again today I was told they have a 'backlog' - I'm presuming caused by Valspar.

Removed our child from the room in case as have no confidence of a speedy resolution from B&Q. Our entire upstairs now smells particularly on warm days unless we completely seal the room off. I'm loathe to repaint in case the smell leaches through a coat of another paint. Worried I may be looking at a sand down and reseal - which I fully expect B&Q to pay for, if they ever get back to me... Don't buy this paint, it's not worth the risk of having this inconvenience and terrible customer service.

I had never smelt something so strong. I brought a black light to try and find it, literally smelt every cm of the carpet, furniture etc. Last resort was the walls. Then the external wall that gets hot with the sun, Britain generally doesn't have that many sunny days in a row, but we had had a week of extremely hot days, hence the smell.

I found various parts of the wall with the ammonia smell so started googling 'stinky cat urine paint', not expecting to find anything. However it seems that there has been problems with this for years and apparently it only affects 1 in 100,000 people. There have been problems with Crown, Dulux, and most recent Valspar. This bedroom had been freshly painted less than a month ago with Valspar paint custom pink colour.

I have found so many people having problems with Valspar paint, so I have just texted my friend while she is on holiday to explain all this. There is no way that their 4 year old can sleep in her bedroom when the smell is at its strongest. I have had to have all the windows upstairs open 24 hours a day just to try and ventilate the room and make the smell bearable.

I thought I was going mad as it took me so long to figure out what the problem, I had to empty all the furniture out of the room so I could eliminate what possibles it was. I know the cat hadn't been in there and where I located the smell he couldn't get to as furniture was blocking it. Just don't buy this paint, as you might experience the same problem and it is the most revolting smell in the world and unbearable on a hot day.

I bought some Valspar emulsion paint in April 2017 and started decorating my hall/stairwell on May bank holiday. The hallway had been painted previously - emulsion onto plaster direct. However I prefer to paint on lining paper - which I had completed a few weeks previously. Both the lining paper and paint were purchased at B&Q. Everything was fine for about a week, then I noticed a smell appearing. Exactly the same as previous comments on here, the smell was a combination of gas/cat urine, and the smell is getting stronger daily.

Maybe connected to the warmer weather as some suggested - as the smell is worse where the light floods into the hall/or windows are open. I've been to B&Q to complain - and they were as baffled as I was and although very nice, only suggested to use Neutradol air freshness (other sufferers had suggested this on other complaint forums, which the B&Q staff were reading along with myself!!) This was despite them admitting when they opened the paint tin themselves that it was extremely strong smell...

Now I appreciate this may be a one off bad batch of paint as I've certainly never heard of it before? I've owned 3 houses/rented plenty more in my time and consider myself quite competent of decorating. I'm interested to know what Valspar (and other companies) are doing about this? Some guidance would be appreciated! Would sealant solve my problem? Do I have to strip back the lining paper and start again? My hallway/stairs is unbearable making my nose burn. I can only sympathize for those who has suffered when painting bedrooms, as I certainly couldn't sleep in it! How do we even know it's not harmful bacteria???

I've been corresponding with Valspar over an issue with smelly walls. An odour that was being omitted smelt like cat wee. My poor cat nearly got rehomed. It took weeks to realise it wasn't her to blame. Valspar were not sympathetic to all the distress I've been going through and still are. When I found out through my own research about this so called 'Wall Odour Phenomenon' I contacted Valspar, it was only because I'd publically published the email I sent to them on their Facebook UK page that they responded.

They asked how I'd prepared my walls beforehand (I have 4 years training in CITY & Guilds Painting and Decorating). They were happy I'd followed the right procedure. They asked what the wall substrate was. They couldn't blame this as I've been emulsioning my walls for over 25 years. They proceeded to blame the Dulux paint that was present underneath. There was no need to prime the walls as the Valspar paint used was paint and primer in one. I'm so angry that if this 'phenomena' has been known to the paint manufacturing business for years then why isn't there a warning on the paint cans? Or at least in their brochures? Something should be put in place on how to prepare walls to stop this from happening and what measures should be taken to safeguard the walls from this so called bacteria in the future.

There is very little if no information out there about this issue, unless you are experiencing it for yourself you would never know the so called 'Phenomenon' existed. Both the supplier B&Q and Valspar were really unhelpful. They just regurgitated the word for word report from the PRA (Paint Research Association). My gut instinct is that this isn't a wall bacteria but something that is either present within the paint or the shelf life of the paint has been dramatically reduced due to the removal of solvents to cut emissions. I'm still waiting on a response from B&Q over the matter and Valspar have sent me a voucher to cover the cost of a new tin of paint. I will however have to use a Sealer to seal in the smell but this is very expensive and it's going to cost over £200 to put right so sorry Valspar. One tin of paint doesn't cut it!

I have been a homeowner for 28 years and call me crazy, but I actually enjoy painting my walls. Over the years I have used many different brands of paints and have used Valspar in the past with good results. I am a picky painter as I like for my walls to be smooth and detest roller marks! After two recent experiences with Valspar, I will never use this brand again!

The first round, I used the most expensive Valspar which is touted to be the "primo" one coat, easy peasy paint! It is the absolute worst! The paint is thick, sticky and doesn't level well on the wall. I even changed rollers after a few passes thinking I had too much of a nap on the roller, even though it said for smooth walls and satin paint. I was painting a small bathroom, so I went ahead and finished the job as we have deadlines to meet with plumbers and granite installers and you know how it is, when you're already home with your paint color that you've taken forever to choose, your favorite angled brush and a good roller... you're ready to paint!

Several times I almost gave up. It's just a sticky mess and after just a few minutes of painting it started to leave little gritty particles on the wall. It was like the paint was drying between the bristles of my trim brush and in the roller tray and then leaving the particles on the wall. It just does not leave a desirable smooth finish. Now I regret that I didn't stop because I feel that my walls would have to be sanded to get them back as smooth as they were prior to painting! And, on top of that, my brush was ruined after using it for only a couple of hours and never letting it dry out. When I tried to wash it out, it was like trying to remove oil paint, but it's latex! And, I literally had to scrape it out of the tray. I went back to Lowe's where I purchased the paint and I must say our local store has great paint people! I took my ruined brush in and explained to them what had happened.

They were very apologetic, even gave me a new brush and a complimentary gallon of the mid grade Valspar paint which I was told would be much better and that they had received some complaints on the higher grade paint about its thickness. So, I went home very optimistic about painting the adjoining hallway with my free brush and paint. Unfortunately after about three passes with the roller, I realized I was in for it again! The same problems as mentioned above only the paint wasn't as sticky and seemed to level out better with multiple roller passes. However, I was painting in evening lighting and this morning when I looked down the hallway, I was sad to see that the paint did not "lay down" well and is actually even rough to the touch in some places. So, my solution is this... I will be heading down to my Benjamin Moore in a few minutes to purchase a couple of gallons of their paint which I have never been disappointed with!

It's too late to do anything with the bathroom as the new vanity, wall cabinet and tile are installed. With it being a small room it won't be that noticeable. But, I will be sanding the hallway and repainting it with a quality paint as Valspar apparently no longer has a paint that is even slightly acceptable! Don't buy this paint, you will be very disappointed! I had to rate it 1 star as there wasn't an option to leave a zero, but I would absolutely give it a zero!

On two occasions the paint has been patchy and left a series of discoloured patches across the walls and only after 4 or 5 coats has it finally covered. We have reverted to Dulux and other brands and have never had the problem again. Valspar and B and Q (UK) have been very unhelpful. My first time using Valspar reserve with HydroChroma technology (purchased at Lowe's). I've been painting (part time) for over thirty years and this is easily the most difficult paint I have ever dealt with. It's incredible how bad it is, never seen anything like it. When applying the paint with a 3/8" nap roller, if you overlap the area just painted 20 seconds before the paint lifts right off the surface. You can't get the roller wet enough. The finish is sooo blotchy where the roller has lifted the "skin" off the paint from the previous pass. 3/8" nap and looks like I shot the surface with a texture gun (and screwed it up). Disappointment is a gross understatement.

I am an experienced painter and bought Valspar cabinet paint for a bathroom vanity. A quart cost me $25 and the can said "no brush marks." What a crock! I followed the instructions on the can knowing I had to prep the cabinet by sanding the old finish and used a tack cloth to remove all the debris and used a new high end brush to apply the paint. The instructions stated to apply the paint in thin coats so I assumed that the paint would have a nice flow. It was thick and sticky and really difficult to work with. After 2 coats I abandoned my quality brush and bought a 59 cent foam brush. Two more coats later I finally was able to get a finish that was marginally acceptable but it wasn't what I expected. I am so glad I didn't try this paint on a kitchen because I would have gone postal. Save your money and sanity. There are many less expensive paints on the market that outperform this product.

To start I would not give the Valspar Signature one star but had to select something. I have painted for many years and seldom have I crossed garbage paint like this. The last time I had a similar problem was with Walmart paint back in the early 2000's. Short story: Went to the local Lowe's to buy paint after hearing Valspar signature was the best paint around and covered in one coat, was told it was pricey but worth it. After speaking to the paint pro I bought 30 gallons of paint in different colors. RED, YELLOWS, BLUES, GREENS AND GREY. The walls were primed prior to painting with the top of the line signature. HUGE surprise when the paint was not covering!!!! The yellow took 7 coats, the greens 3, red... I lost count, the blues ranged from 3 to 5 and the grey was the best with only 2 coats.

To add contrast in one room we wanted to add a lite purple and decided to grab Walmart color place paint. Another huge surprise it covered in one coat. Went to wash the walls after just 30 days thanks to little kids and the Valspar paint is coming off the walls!!!! Garbage paint, should have stuck with Behr paint which holds up great. Do yourself a favor and buy Behr paint or color place.

The first problem is one can't roll it but once as the paint lifts off the wall otherwise. That means one swipe of the roller, which causes paint runs which can't be brushed or rolled out. As if that wasn't bad enough the "one coat coverage" was not accurate as two coats were required, and this was painting over a light pale yellow with a variation of white paint. To add insult to this the paint cost was in the $35 range. Stay away from this paint unless you like sanding runs and painting over and over once each coat is completely dry.

I built a Murphy Bed and after completing it I wanted to paint it white. Bought a gallon of Valspar Signature Paint with Primer in the paint. I had Lowe's shake the paint, went home, stirred the paint and began to paint my project. This paint is VERY runny and the first coat had little hiding power. Once dry I gave the wood a second coat of runny paint. To my surprise the second coat actually covered the wood and the project looks GREAT. Here's the problem, it is now Day 8 after painting and the paint is still not completely dry. You can touch it if your hand is moving but if you stop for a second your hand sticks to the paint. I tossed a small white empty envelope on the flat top board and after not more than 10 seconds I had to peel the envelope off.

I called Lowe's and they told me I needed to prime the wood first. I then said "But the paint has primer in it." To which I was told, "That's not real primer, that's just to make the paint color even." When I questioned the Lowe's man what I should do he said "Wait for it to Dry!" Well I hope to be able to use this bed before I retire or my wife wants to renovate the room again. Listen. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER buy this paint. For the $38.00 price tag I would go directly to Sherwin Williams or Home Depot and buy their interior paint. P. S. Don't buy the Ace Hardware paint, it's not much better.

What a load of rubbish this paint is! We bought 5 litres and - unfortunately work conspired so we didn't paint immediately. The stuff separated out over a two-week period and had a revolting sludge at the top. Try as we might, we could not get the stuff to mix so off I went back to B&Q. I was told there that this paint should be used within a couple of days of purchase and that, really, the Premium is a better product. We have used the stuff, as £35 for the 5l can is too much money to ignore, but I am not overly happy with the result.

Equally unfortunate was that the 5l was not enough and I had to go back and get another 2l. We poured the 2l into the last of the 5 to make sure we had a good colour and was not going to differ for the second coat. It has not covered particularly evenly. Certainly will not be using the stuff again - back to Dulux for us which is, incidentally, slightly cheaper for the 5l can!

We bought 10 gallons of signature for our walls, 2 gallons in a different color for two bathrooms for our upstairs a little over 1100 sq ft. Pro painter friend of mine painted with it against all of his wishes! He would never buy this paint. SW is the only good paint, etc. The whole time he painted (2 days for everything literally!) he complained about the paint. Granted, we painted the bathrooms, same paint different color. The paint went on the same, and covered the same. Is was exactly what we picked out, covered extremely well. Even the pro said we didn't even really need two coats. It covered so well! And it pained him to say that! The only reason we did 2 coats is we put up crown and 5 1/4" trim throughout the whole house! With all that being said we didn't use both of our gallons for the bathrooms and we didn't even open seven gallons for the rest of the home!!

Our experience with this paint could not have been better!! For those experience issues I believe others have offered advice but I'll put my 2 cents in as well; if you use tape (which really you don't need to, just cut in!) take it off as soon as you're done, or you will end up tearing off paint you want to stay on because IT HAS DRIED AND BONDED LIKE IT'S SUPPOSED TO! Use new rollers/brushes, quality ones and a high nap for your rollers, 3/4" for us was perfect! If you pick out a grey, and the other "greys" around that swatch look like they have a blue hue to it, so will yours. Pick out a swatch with whites or blacks around it, then you will have a grey without another colored hue in it!

This is my first review I've ever written and as it's a lot easier writing a negative review, it really bothered me seeing these aggressively negative reviews. To each their own for sure, but as of now I will not buy anything other than Valspar signature! Unless I'm doing outdoor then I will purchase the Valspar that's a little more but made for outdoor. Side note, I just redid this old dresser and used Valspar spray paint and a can of Valspar lacquer. Could not have been happier with the outcome!!

I wanted to paint front door because we are selling our house and needed to spruce it up a bit. Went to B&Q expecting to get some Dulux paint to be mixed to the colour I wanted. To my amazement, B&Q do not mix DULUX any more but have this "Incredible new paint from America that is BETTER than Dulux!" chimed the salesperson. "It's more expensive but better quality paint," she said. I found colour similar to the one I wanted.

After paying 27 for a tiny 1 liter can, I went home and sanded and primed my door. After a couple of hours letting the primer dry on a hot and breezy day, I proceeded to paint the door. The paint went on in strange lumps so I changed brushes. It went on super streaky and there were huge lines where the undercoat came through. If there was a drip, even if you caught it instantly, the finish remained marred with the outline of the drip. As you paint, it drags and the finish looks like it was put on with sandpaper. There is NO GLOSS at all to this gloss. Just with your fingernail, you can scratch the paint and you will see the previous colour right there.

The paint dries super fast so as you try to paint a section you cannot blend it into the next section because it just pulls off and you are left with a lumpy mess! It does not hold onto the surface of the door. I have never seen anything like it. Tomorrow I am going to sand the whole thing down and try to hunt down some beautiful Dulux. This is a nightmare. I have just painted my front door using this Valspar 'Exterior Gloss'. The door had previously been primed several times, sanded down to 800 grit paper to a super flat surface. Then I put this gloop on. Biggest 'bad decision ever'. Firstly I feel that Valspar have deliberately misnamed this product - this is VINYL paint albeit a little bit more 'glossy' than Vinyl Silk interior paint. The surface finish is awful (It dries in moments so when you try to brush any little runs you get an awful finish (Imagine dragging a fork through whipped cream). Every single brush mark shows up and it is impossible to leave a flat finish. If you have one of the textured effect doors and you're not too fussy about the quality of finish- go for it, but look for cheaper alternatives. This is not premium paint at all.

If you are looking for a premium paint look at Craftmaster paints from the UK (for steam engines and boats). That is what I used 8 years ago and the finish was mirror flat and glossy as any car! Customer service from Valspar support- really poor too. Their attitude is - "you did it, it's your fault, not ours you should have used our primer". I have asked twice now "how to remove Valspar exterior gloss"- the silence is deafening!! All in all, the most awful, weak exterior 'gloss' I have used. It's not even very glossy and at 27 here in the UK for one liter there are much better alternatives around.

Once the second batch had been applied we noticed a completely different shading difference. I then applied the two different paints onto a sample board and then took it down to my local B&Q store.

What happened next was over 2 weeks of emails between B&Q and Valspar. Both companies' responses were pathetic even more so as I informed them that my client was not going to pay me for the work as the paint did not match the furniture, fabrics etc that she had chosen and had made from the original chosen colour. So what was their offer for their mistake - 2 x 5ltr and 1 x 2.5ltr, pathetic! Basically I ended up not getting paid so I picked up the bill for their mistakes. Have small stain on ceiling and covered with Kilz and covered with original cheap ceiling paint leftover from when house built 10 years ago which matched up pretty good but you could see it in the sunshine. I changed to Valspar because it was sold by Lowe's and the original painters used a cheaper made by Gladden and sold at Home Depot and it had been discontinued. I purchased 5 gallons of the premium Valspar ceiling paint that painted on with purplish tint so you could see missed places.

I painted my large living room, dining room and small breakfast area and ran out at a place very noticeable. I came back and talked to the same lady and she told me the Valspar ceiling paint they had would match just fine so I purchased one gallon to finish the last 10. The area painted did not match and stood out like a sore thumb. The only I figured I could remedy the situation was to repaint the whole thing again. I complained to Lowe's and they had the Valspar rep contact me. He seemed very indifferent and told me they had just sold some ceiling paint to Ollie's Discount Store.

I went to Ollie's, they had 5 gallons of Valspar Ceiling Paint that I had paid around $125.00 for, for only $49.00. I purchased 10 gallons for $48.00 per 5 gallon container and then paid somebody else $500.00. I'm obviously not a professional painter but from the start I did not think Valspar covered as good as the premium paint I always purchase whenever I go to the trouble to paint. I will never use it again. I will continue to shop at Lowe's but will not purchase paint from them. I think the price I paid at Ollie's would be the appropriate price for Valspar paint.

I bought some samples of Valspar paint from Lowe’s, chose a color (1001-10C March Breeze), went back and bought a gallon of the chosen color in Valspar Signature paint, then proceeded to paint every last drop on the walls of my Cape Cod-style attic. Throughout the week I decided I really didn’t like the color (my treadmill is up there so I had a whole lot of time to look at it).

I decided to paint over it, and took out my samples to get an idea of what direction I wanted to go. I noticed the dried up paint on the sample container of my chosen color was different than my walls. I painted some of the sample on my wall. The walls had a pinkish hue, and my sample was the beige-y hue I had wanted.

I went over to Lowe’s with a swatch of the sample painted on the gallon lid of the Signature paint I had used. The person who helped me did see that they were different hues (he described the hues as salmon vs. putty). He mixed me another gallon of Valspar Signature, and it came out the same color as the original gallon I had used. He ended up using the Valspar Reserve, which was what was used to make the sample (he did not charge me the 10$ price difference for the Reserve).

I contacted Valspar customer service via their website (http://www.valsparpaint.com/en/contact-us/) regarding this experience. I explained what happened, and that I was upset that I had to repaint because of this issue with Valspar paint. Once again I had to haul everything out of the attic, go through the headache of taping, and deal with the messy clean up, not to mention the cost of the supplies I burned through and the hassle of actually painting (I hate painting - I guess it's good I can't afford a professional painter, because I would be out that money too). AND it took up another entire weekend day. I wrote that I wanted two free gallons of Valspar Reserve for my trouble.

I have been corresponding with ** from Valspar Customer service. In addition to being incredibly rude (in his opinion, I should be writing him a thank you note for scoring a new gallon of Valspar Reserve since its 10$ more expensive than the Signature I purchased). He has not expressed any concern that when mixed, Valspar Signature and Valspar Reserve come out different hues even though its the same color being mixed. The last I heard from ** was that he was going to run some Valspar Reserve vs. Signature tests on my paint color. I guarantee my incident is going in the cold case files at Valspar.

I had the Home Depot color-match the Reserve with their Behr paint in order to finish up my attic (one gallon wasn’t enough to do the whole thing). Apparently ** thinks I have all the time in the world to wait on him to finish his experiment. I will NEVER buy Valspar paint again. You literally do not know what you are going to get (at least ** gets to play mad scientist thanks to your wasted time and money).

The Dulux colour charts were still on display so I chose my colour and went to the counter to have it mixed. Now normally at the mixing counter you can wait for ages and be ignored by no end of staff but unusually this time I was met straight away by a member of staff. This quickly became two members of staff so I told them what I wanted and they scanned the colour chart. At no point was I aware that B&Q no longer mix Dulux paint. I thought my paint being mixed was Dulux.

As I waited I discussed this new Valspar range and the staff were full of praise for it. Much better than Dulux they said. Anyway after it being mixed I noticed it was in a Valspar tin, this not being too uncommon as I've had Dulux mixed paint in other containers before. When I got it home and opened it up I noticed immediately it didn't smell like gloss, didn't look like gloss and didn't have the consistency of gloss. Against my better judgement I started to paint a fully prepared and undercoated door. It was terrible! Nothing like gloss at all, more like a satin, sheeny finish. Parts of the door were touch dry within minutes which as anyone knows isn't gloss at all. Well after wrecking a well prepared door I took the paint back. Was told by returns desk that mixed paint isn't refundable but to take it to the paint counter anyway.

Chap there looked a bit sheepish when told of the problem but proceeded to paint a little on a piece of wood he had behind the counter. Dried it with an hairdryer and tried to tell me that it was kind of glossy. In the end he conceded that it wasn't anything like the sample piece on display and although very unusual he said he would offer a full refund. I got the impression this wasn't the only complaint he has encountered with this product. Anyway I did a bit of googling and it appears this Valspar is an American company. Maybe American gloss is different to what we are used to but I'm just trying to warn anyone else thinking of buying this in gloss then don't expect a good finish like Dulux and be prepared to apply at least three coats. Honestly I just hope others take heed of this and similar warnings of this paint range and steer clear of it. Believe me you will regret it.

I was pleasantly surprised on how easy it was to paint and the color was exactly the same as the sample (not like Dulux which sometimes wasn't 100 % accurate) and I only needed two coats. To be honest I did the second coat more to be safe rather than because it needed it. I did now use all of them and they are stunning colours and the paint very easy to use. I am not an professional, just someone who doesn't want to waste her money on professional and do the painting herself. Some of the reviews of so called professionals seem to prove me right. I used new rollers and new brushes, Harris brand.

So why so many bad reviews, I only have some guesses: Some used the wrong equipment, (very old rollers with dried previous paint), some painted on humid walls, some as mentioned by another review, have some interest to lie which would be crazy but who knows as it's definitely a good competitor for Dulux. I just don't know but one thing is sure, this paint is absolutely great and considering the almost unlimited choices of colors we have with Valspar, I have no doubt. Next time I need paint, I will buy Valspar without hesitation. Shame about the bad reviews really.

Like others, we were dazzled by the big display of Valspar at B&Q. And the colour mixing. So we decided it must be better than Dulux, which is really pretty good if one can't get Pratt & Lambert, which is not available in the UK. (I used P&L almost exclusively in the US. Sigh.) Anyway, I painted my office six days ago. It is a small room, thank goodness, and one entire long wall has built-in bookshelves. Still, it took two coats to almost cover, and the paint dripped everywhere, but worst of all, it smells. It is horrific. I could not spend any time in my office at all the first three days. And that after having a large window open virtually night and day.

Today, I read that slicing onions and scattering them about would absorb the odour. Really? Not the industrial-strength stench of Valspar's premium paint. At this point, I'm seriously thinking we might have to have someone in to strip and refinish the walls. It is an unbelievable disaster, and I've been avidly painting rooms on two continents for forty years. If you are even remotely tempted to purchase Valspar, be sure your nose is totally insensitive (although what the noxious chemicals will do to you anyway is anyone's guess), or your house has been purchased by someone you loathe and you want to deal them a dirty trick. Worst. Paint. Ever.

My local B&Q will only mix the Valspar paint now. I was painting one wall in a mixed blue. The color great, the paint terrible. It bubbled, would not cover, there was an uneven sheen - some parts dull, some with a sheen. It was a silk mix. After a week or two I had to have a Dulux paint mixed up which although not as nice a color went on a treat. I also had a satin paint mixed up the same color as a Dulux satin paint I had used over a number of years. This again has always felt nice and smooth to the touch. The Valspar was rough to touch and had no sheen. Back to Dulux from now on.

I have been a painter and decorator for about 10 years now and my job has taken me from small rooms that require a quick job to the heights of really big projects. I have not signed into any other forums but I feel compelled to due to my recent experience with Valspar silk 'paint and primer.' I have dealt with a range of paints, from the very low quality to the seriously over priced for no apparent reason just because you have the money to... This particular project the customer decided on the paint. I had not used Valspar, but since it was BNQ new flagship paint I was not too skeptical as Dulux done well.

I pre misted the walls, filled any defects, gave a matte undercoat so the silk had something to sit on, standard procedure. What was odd was there was lumps in the paint but I didn't think nothing of it, then the coverage was poor and I thought nothing of it. It required several coats and now I was starting to question my ability to judge the coverage. I had finished the rooms and now was moving to the rest of the house. The family moved in and there was already marking on the wall. I just assumed the family were a bit reckless, but confused as I've never experienced silk being marked so easily. So when I was shown the ease the paint was coming off I started to wonder if I had done something wrong. I patched things up but it seemed if you made a little contact with you could go right back to the white base.

I was so baffled by this point I had to ask my colleagues if they had ever experienced this. One suggested it might come down to the paint, didn't think it was likely so I did a little more research. There was nothing suggesting the silk in any brand reacts like this until I typed the Valspar silk 'paint and primer.' I found that I did not have a career stroke but this product is actually that bad.. so I felt I needed to express that. Do not buy this product unless you like spending money for no reason.

Eventually I decided to go for 'marmalade magic' which although not a very dark colour it is bright and vibrant so I expected that it would require 2 coats on my newly plastered and primed wall.

After the first coat it was as I suspected patchy but then hours later it started to bubble - soon it was peeling and taking everything back to the plaster. I allowed it to dry and tried to feather and sand the 'bald' patch. I then went for coat number 2 which took even more of the first layer off and still the rest of the wall is patchy. We have used so much paint that we have had to buy another tin, we are on coat number 4 and we have a patch that seems impossible to feather as it just keeps peeling away. We are left with 2 choices now - re-skim the wall or find a massive picture to hide what looks like a botch job. All my other wall are Dulux and are fine.

The paint has floaters of teflon and that is not acceptable. After painting the trim we started painting kitchen cabinets using a spray gun. We had done all the preparations prior to starting to paint. We cleaned everything, sanded everything, taped what we didn’t want paint on. We cannot use this paint with the spray guns that we have. I mounted a hanger on the closet door a day or two after paint felt dry to the touch. Wife wanted a different hanger 2 months later. No problem, I thought. Removed the hook and filled the hole with wood filler. Then the problem started. Of course I had to sand the area and "feather" the paint around the wood filler so as to paint over the area and blend in the new paint. The Valspar paint could not be sanded, I tried course paper and fine to very fine paper, but the paint only peeled off of the door. It was like peeling dry skin from your sunburned back. The paint is rubbery and can not be feathered to a fine edge so a cover coat can hide a sanded area. Not a recommended paint!!!

After sanding, cleaning and undercoating my woodwork with Ronseal One Coat Primer & Undercoat I applied 2 coats of the Valspar product. Some of the woodwork was given a third and fourth coat. I was really appalled at the the dull matt chalky finish. I have been in contact with Valspar and to cut a long story short I took the paint into the B&Q store where I purchased it so the Valspar rep could test it. This was tested on a piece of lining paper which was sitting on the tin when I collected the tin after it was tested.

I received an email from Valspar stating that after conclusive testing there was no fault with the paint. Previous correspondence from Valspar said there should be a smooth finish with a slight sheen. I should add that I had to give the details of the paint formula in an email to enable same mixture to be tested in a "lab". I'm intrigued at how these tests were carried out without the company knowing or seeing what I applied the paint to. I did offer to have someone come and look at the finish, but my request was ignored.

As the rep. was in the area to test the paint I see no reason why they couldn't come and see the finished result. Valspar have washed their hands of my complaint by saying I should have used a Valspar primer or perhaps did not leave enough time between coats. A coat a day seems more than adequate when the instructions clearly states 2 to 4 hours. Valspar have clearly ignored my account of preparation etc, and chose to wash their hands of accountability and responsibility of their product. Unfortunately I did not keep the receipt as I did not think I would need it. I have never needed to complain about a paint product in the 30+ years I have been decorating. I do have an Email trail that I can send if need be.

We used Valspar paint plus primer on our living room and 2 bedroom walls. They were common paneling which we washed/scrubbed with TSP prior to painting as we have been remodeling homes for 20+ yrs. This Valspar product was recommended by Lowe's paint personnel. Soon after/days after having dried we noticed the paint would peel off with the slightest furniture abrasion or even fingernail abrasion. It doesn't simply abrade where the item touches the wall, as it peels away on either side ~1/8" of where the point of contact impact the wall as well, in other words, the paint sticks to itself, better than it sticks to the wall.

In material science this is a flaw when it comes to fasteners, as when testing a fastener, the test should result in failure of the parent metal, otherwise the material is weak and will not provide any protection to the substrate. This material is not simply subpar for its purpose, it is not recommended at all, where people or objects may come in contact with the walls. The major problem now is that we will have to strip the walls in order to paint with the expectation of getting something to stick to the substrate. We would like a refund as this product does not perform as suggested nor as any other paint product should. I worked in a paint department for competitors BEHR & Pittsburgh paint for 7 yrs and will never suggest or use any Valspar product again.

I went into my local B&Q to purchase a Dulux paint. I had previously had a Dulux colour mixed at this B&Q but to my surprise the Dulux range had disappeared and I was told by the B&Q member of staff that the Valspar was a better quality paint. I still had the old Dulux sample card and I wanted to choose the same colour but 2 shades lighter. The B&Q member of staff advised me that they could colour match this colour using the Valspar paint and it would cost 21 for a 2.5 litre tin. I had a quick look around the other colours in the shop in the normal Dulux and Crown range but couldn't find a similar colour so decided to give the Valspar a go.

I explained to the B&Q member of staff that I was painting over the Dulux paint that I had mixed previously and showed them the colour card, but I now wanted to go 2 shades lighter. The B&Q member of staff advised me that it wouldn't be a problem and that 2 coats would cover it. So knowing that a 2.5 litre tin would cover my room I then purchased a 2.5 litre tin of Valspar mixed to the colour of my choice. I thought the tin looked rather small as it is shorter than a normal 2.5 litre tin of Dulux or Crown but it was a wider tin.

Anyway I have spent today decorating the room with the Valspar paint. Not long after starting I noticed some lumps in the paint, like it wasn't mixed properly, but it also looked like it would if I had closed the tin then reopened it and the dried bits of paint had fallen in from the lid! I continued painting and just fished out the lumpy bits, which was a bit annoying. The first coat seemed to cover ok but it was very patchy and I had used a roller so I was wondering if it was just me, but I have painted with a roller many times and not had this.

I am used to painting with Dulux so I was expecting that the second coat would cover this so didn't really worry. BUT it hasn't covered properly and the walls are still patchy. I don't have enough paint left to do a 3rd coat and I am now wondering what to do in the morning. I was assured by the B&Q member of staff that 2 coats would be fine and this paint was far superior to Dulux. I have now closed all my windows and put the heating on and I have noticed a very strong smell in the room, but not the usual paint smell. I am wondering whether just to buy Dulux paint in a different colour and just cover it up!!

I was initially impressed, good coverage, the colour I had matched was near perfect, it dried really quickly, and had no smell. However, the finish is not what Brits are used to as eggshell. No smooth finish with a soft sheen. It dries almost flat and has a texture to it. It feels exactly like the chalk paints I use.

This product claims to be scrub-able. It's not! When it was completely dry I rubbed it with a fine sanding pad to try and even out the surface and it distressed the paintwork - it may be wipe-able but definitely not scrub-able. Overall a disappointing product. F&B is the same price and far superior to this. Luckily when I contacted B+Q they agreed to refund.

Also, the humidity in my house has risen by 25% and all the bread went moldy over these couple of days he was painting - another first. Fits with your description of watery quality and not drying out properly. So, I discover now that this US product most likely contains toxic substances ('VOCs') that I am now breathing in. It should be tested in a lab for this. Fine idea by B&Q. Avoid!!

I was given a voucher by a chap in B&Q and told they have stopped mixing the Dulux because of the amount of complaints received on the colour matching side of things. So FOUR coats later I am still left with a streaky, multi tone wall. I think the paint is mainly water. It looks more like a water painting!! By this time I have run out of paint - was told by the B&Q guy it would only need one coat as it was the premium paint. So off I went to Homebase (where I received exceptional customer service) to colour match the Valspar in Dulux. One coat later and it looks 1,000 times better already - will be doing a further coat as painting you would expect. But I am so angry with B&Q because the new carpets are now down so I have had to buy plastic sheets and risk the drips!! Funny thing is that the previous room I had painted was with Dulux and I was very impressed with the coverage of the bold colour having so much depth. I shouldn't have been tempted by the voucher!!! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR TIME - AVOID!!!

I bought two 5 Litre tins of paint - standard vinyl silk emulsion. When the paint tins were opened there was quite a bit of water sitting on the top - the paint was thoroughly mixed and then applied to the walls - the first coat did go on a bit patchy but we thought it would dry fine then the second coat would fill in all the "missing bits and a third coat would sort it all out and it would be fine. However on applying the second coat (yes the first had dried adequately - overnight) the second coat started to rip up the first coat and we were left with a very nasty mess on the walls. I took the tins back to B&Q who rang the customer services line who in turn emailed me and said they would test the batch numbers that had been given - so I awaited another email which I received today and it is posted below for you all to see:

"Thank you for your email. Following your recent enquiry, I can confirm that our Quality Team have performed the necessary tests and the results have confirmed that there are no performance issues reflecting your concerns. Valspar can confirm that we are happy with the quality of the product that you purchased from us. Our lab technician has added the following notes; "A similar case in which sugar soap was used. The sugar soap if not properly cleaned off wall will leave a crystalline structure that prevents adherence of the paint."

What a load of rubbish - the sugar soap has nothing to do with the paint adhering to the walls, which, I may add were sanded down thoroughly before painting. And on buying another brand of paint, we painted the scraped (yes the Valspar paints peels off!!) and cleaned and sanded walls again with no problems whatsoever so the sugar soap theory is a load of rubbish. I don't suppose I will get my money back but please people avoid at all costs! B&Q made a big mistake having this contract!

Valspar silk vinyl - Paint has been on a week and is still tacky. Having read other reviews am concerned that it may never dry properly. 3 coats applied on white wallpaper. Appears to have dried on previously emulsioned plaster. Should I put all the furniture back or is there something I could do to rectify this problem? Please advise.

I purchased Valspar paint for the interior trim inside my house. It was the glossy type with primer. I did the required sanding to slightly roughen up the surface for good adhesion. It took me 4 coats of this paint to even cover my surface due to the fact it was so thin. Then I noticed that it had a tendency to run. Then since I did not catch all the runs in time due to so many, I had to let my paint dry, sand it out and repainted those areas.

I have been a professional decorator for 39 years and previously a Dulux Select Decorator, and do a lot of high end work. I have been using valspar premium (gold tin) for over a year now and would not touch Dulux again. The coverage is second to none, I have coated a canary yellow bedroom with valspar ink blue and it went in one coat, however best practice is always at least 2 coats. The durability is great. It cleans without leaving a white residue, and spreads or flows off the brush with ease. Dulux or crown retail paints don't compete with valspar premium. I have never had issues with flaking or excess splatter, good quality tools and techniques are key. If care is not taken when using masking tape or using a high tack tape, you may get seepage which can cause any paint to peel or perforated edge effect. I have no affiliation with valspar, and all my customers have been more than happy with the results.

Bought Valspar eggshell with primer at Lowe's. Painted whole house except laundry room. 5 gallons, with a little left over. Loved the color. Bought 1 gallon for laundry room and closets....took whole gallon to do 1 coat in small laundry room. We have very long hallway...my grands love sliding on hardwood floors but every touch on the wall leaves marks. Not good! Was told this was washable....it is not! Was told it would be resistant to most all scuffs and rubbing against even hand prints as long as the hands were not greasy. It is not! I love the color but the paint sucks. We just moved in a week ago and I already see nightmares ahead.

I just finished painting a kitchen ceiling and walls with Valspar Signature Semi-Gloss. When I used a brush to do the edges, it left brush strokes which I could only cover by using a roller. When I rolled the walls, it didn't cover good at all. I had to put 3 coats all over to hide the same white color. The paint was dripping all over the place too. It seemed runny when I mixed it up and then got gummy if I went over areas twice. I was not happy at all with Valspar paint.

Went to B&Q to buy some paint only to find that they now only mix Valspar paint. "Not a problem" I thought as they have a huge range, it must be good stuff for the Buyers at B&Q to replace Dulux with this. It is also a little more expensive than Dulux, again "not to worry" I thought, mixed paint usually is a little more expensive. The chap did a great job, exact match, bravo computer mixer thingy! I get home, I pour the paint into roller tray, "bit thin" I think. So I pour it back and give it a stir. STILL THIN!!....Consistency of cream, cheap cream at that. Well I can't return it, as it is mixed and I did like the color....4 COATS LATER it looks as good as 2 Coats of DULUX. What on earth were the buyers at B&Q thinking??? They have either a) been thrown a back hander; b) taken leave of their senses, and been thrown a back hander; c) Valspar sales people plied them with huge quantities of booze prior to the sales pitch then gave them a back hander; or d) I am sure that no untoward things happened between Valspar and B&Q. But honestly WTF!!! Steer clear of Valspar.

I found Valspar interior latex to be significantly thinner than other comparable paints--even more so than Sutherland's in-store brand, Golden Glow. Valspar offered very poor coverage (requiring multiple applications) & was difficult to use because of running. I would not recommend this product to anyone.

Paint peels off kitchen cabinets. It's like silicone caulk, never dries, tacky! (Been months). They claim I didn't prep proper! I washed + lightly sanded! Valspar said in the beginning when I suspected a problem that it would take a week due to color! My kitchen is ruined! I worked a week of my vacation painting! The can says its paint and PRIMER! Bought this from B&Q as no longer mixing Dulux. I was told it was a premium paint costing 27 quid for 2.5l tin. I have used Dulux, Crown Berger, Leyland and B&Q paint, but this Valspar I could not work with. It was so runny most of it landed on the floor before I could get to the wall and I gave up after half an hour and took it back where they gave me a refund. I have been painting for 27 years.

My experience with Valspar's Reserve exterior paint was no better than the other reviewers' comments about interior paint projects. I was painting wood siding over almost identically colored Sherwin Williams paint used about 15 years ago. The Valspar paint was watery, making it a constant battle to avoid drips and runs. It didn't cover well--3 coats were necessary despite the fact that what I was painting over was almost identically colored. The paint came off with the masking tape, and the paint layer itself, even with 2 or 3 coats is very thin. There is no way this paint is going to last. Frankly, selling this paint as premium paint is fraudulent, in my opinion.

I recently purchased Valspar emulsions at the local B & Q as they no longer mix dulux paints. They matched the colour from a Dulux colour card. The price was about the same, but the quality is not. I was a bit suspect after opening it and gave a good mix. It's so thin in viscosity. I have been a painter and decorator for many years. The viscosity is more like fence paint. I carried on first coat, was rubbish. Sometimes first coats can act strange so I carried on four coats later, still rubbish. This was a bright orange on a previous white wall. In my experience I would expected it to cover in 3 coats.

I did one wall six times to prove a point that it has no covering ability, everything shines through. It does not flow as it should and has no leveling properties. The worst paint I have ever used as a reputable decorator. I am telling you to steer well clear of Valspar emulsions. If you think the paints a joke, wait till you contact Valspar customer services. OMG you're contacting robotic air heads. YOU NEED PRIMER, YOU NEED PRIMER. Go away and sort out your formulations. Who else says you need primer to change a wall emulsion colour? Not me in 20 years and I am sure that goes for most of the UK decorators. Waste of time and money.

Seeing the signature brand was on sale, we decided to take the time to prep the living room for new paint. We filled in holes left from nails, sanded smooth and then completely wiped down everything. We avoided the cheap tape offerings and used the 3M brand painter's tape. Then 2 gallons of Valspar Signature Satin.

On went the first coat and all we could see were streaks/see thrus all over the place. After 24 hours, it looked better, having dried. To be sure, we gave it another 48 hours, so we could finish up on the weekend. The second coat went on and after 4 hours, tested to see if the paint was dry and begin to remove the tape from around the windowsills.

Much to our horror, the paint started lifting off with the tape, leaving huge gaps and tears in the room we worked so hard to make look nice. Reading the other reviews, we are heartbroken and feel duped at wasting our hard earned money and time on this product. We are trying to patch the areas that lifted/tore free with the tape. Clearly we can't return the product since we used it all and reading other reviews, seems unlikely Valspar will do much more than shrug us off as an annoyed minority. That said, we will share our experience with the nice people at Lowe's we buy lots of stuff from.

I don' think it's the brand, it's the base that's the problem. I've used Valspar, Benjamin Moore, and Sherwin Williams. I've done everything right and the paint is problematic from the get go. My dad who's had lots of experience says he's never had these problems with oil based paint.

Problems: 1.) It's like painting with Elmer's glue. It goos up/gets sticky immediately so brush strokes can't overlap without changing the smooth texture and or the paint comes off and the color gets blotchy. 2) Four coats minimum to cover the blotchiness. 3) Surfaces that touch always stick together even years later like doors & door jambs, windows & frames & anything I set on my shelves gets stuck. 4) "Easy to clean. Just use a damp cloth and mild soap." YEAH RIGHT. The paint comes off even without soap!!! 5) Paint comes off with the painter's tape. 6) Despite sanding and priming the wood grain stands up. 7) I painted my wood floor with Ben. Moore Floor & Patio and when the air is humid, it gets sticky and is always sticky for a day or so after cleaning (which by the way removes some of the paint).

I've read the stickiness is due to "paint blocking" and is common with latex paint. Paste wax can help but has to be reapplied regularly and builds up. My friend says I should put a coat of water based urethane on my shelves which I haven't tried yet.

Just finished painting my room 2 coats of Crown white base coat then 2 coats of Valspar top coat. Left the paint to dry overnight and in the morning proceeded to remove the masking tape on the edges of the room where I didn't want painted. The Valspar paint peeled away from the wall. You can see in my photos that the undercoat managed to stay on the wall but the Valspar paint peeled away and had an elastic skin like texture. 1 month on and the skin like texture remains. Valspar's advice was to sand the edges, implying that the paint would be flaky like normal paint but sanding the edges simply blistered the paint and left grubby marks on the surface. Valspar informed me that they tested the paint and "This is NORMAL". Has anyone else had this happen. I've used Dulux, Crown and many other brands of paint with the masking tape on the edges technique and this has never happen? What kind of NORMAL paint can't stick to walls!
