I had an awesome experience with the handyman I used yesterday for furniture assembly.... The company is KFW Home Improvements from Philadelphia.... He was prompt, and he had all his tools with him and he had my Coffee table put together in 20 minutes and my 67 inches tall bathroom cabinet put together in a short period of time. He cleaned up the area he was working in as he went along. Very neat and very reliable. Considering I was ghosted by 2 other people and quoted outrageous price from another one... I would hire him again in a second. Very good. Very good.
Wendy, we are thrilled that KFW Home Improvements delivered such prompt, spotlessly neat furniture assembly for your home. Thank you for sharing the love for our Thumbtack pros!

We had an above ground pool that needed to be installed where a previous one had been. I contacted Thumbtack to inquire support. My responses were immediate, getting 5 interested messages from contractors. We chose to go with MCI Construction LLC. Iskander, (owner) came out to view the job and then promptly gave us a bid. He is knowledgeable, conscientious, clever, and a master of many small and large projects throughout Oregon/Washington. We were so pleased with the work he and his stepdad, Juan, did for our pool that we had them build a deck to access the pool. Both are artists in their trade. We will definitely call on MCI for future projects!
From a simple pool setup to a brand-new deck, that sounds like the ultimate backyard transformation! We love making it effortless to connect with master craftspeople who take home projects to the next level. Thank you for sharing your experience with us.

I contacted Kuts, LLC to replace a faucet and the connectors for a laundry sink. Yurii ** was the handyman that came over to replace the faucet. It was exceptional! He was very communicative ahead of time, was perfectly on time and relaxed the faucet expertly. The space is not so big under the laundry sink and this man did an amazing job and he triple checked to ensure everything was working properly before departing. He was polite, professional and very good pricing. I am holding onto his number for any other issues I have as he was efficient and cleaned up everything before departing. I will gladly share his name with neighbors looking for someone to do this type of work. So glad I found you on Thumbtack Mr. Kuts, LLC
It sounds like your laundry sink met its perfect match in a tight squeeze! Making it seamless to connect with meticulously thorough pros is exactly what we aim for, and we appreciate you sharing this experience with us.

I’ve used Thumbtack several times for projects around my home and have had a great experience. The platform makes it easy to find local professionals, compare options, read reviews, and get quotes quickly. I’ve hired pros for everything from home repairs to larger projects, and the process has consistently saved me time compared to searching on my own.
What I like most is the transparency—being able to see reviews, pricing information, and communicate directly with pros before making a decision. The app is easy to use, and I’ve always felt confident in the people I hired through the platform. Overall, Thumbtack has become my go-to place when I need help with a project, and I would definitely recommend it to friends and family.
Thank you for making us your go-to partner for home repairs. We are thrilled that comparing options and reading reviews has given you total confidence when hiring local pros. We look forward to helping you tackle your next home project!

I am very pleased with the referral I received through this company. I needed various remodeling jobs at my home and had Gabe Clinton Co. referred to me. He responded quickly when I left a message wanting to receive a bid on some remodeling work. Gabe set an appointment time and came out on time reviewed the work I wanted done and gave me a quote. He seemed kind and honest so after reviewing his estimate he gave me I hired him for a job. He was punctual and the quality of work was very good. I was completely satisfied with the work he did. I would highly recommend Gabe Clinton.

I am a female senior citizen who needed a roof repair after the last rainstorm. Through Thumbtack I hired Everlasting Roofers. They came to my home, checked my roof and asked me if I wanted the leak fixed correctly with new parts, or just sealed. I told him to fix it correctly because I am planning on selling the house. He quoted me a price of $1200 to repair the leak the correct way and seal all the open nail holes. He showed up the next day and painted bright white sealer on my roof and put some kind of sealer on the nails that were exposed and left.
He still charged me the $1200 and when I paid him he came back and said that the Zelle didn't go through and he wanted me to send it again. I told him the money was sent and it cleared my bank, and did not hear from him again. I now have bright white sealer painted on a dark brown roof, and I am planning to put my house on the market, so I will have to do something about that too.
We are deeply sorry to hear about your frustrating roof repair experience. We hold the pros on our platform to high standards and want every customer to feel confident in the work completed. e would love the opportunity to look into what happened with your project. I have always enjoyed using Thumbtack and found their services to be very helpful when you need work to be done. I am glad we were able to resolve my situation where I have continued access to the Thumbtack platform.
Original Review: Sept. 10, 2026
I have used Thumbtack several times over the years and have always had a pleasant experience. HOWEVER, I recently purchased a condominium and had some repairs which needed to be performed. I went to Thumbtack, as my "go-to option" and was sourcing professionals to perform the job. I hired my Pro and then tried to hire additional pros for other jobs but then for some reason, Thumbtack arbitrarily deactivated my account. I contacted them and was told it was because I had violated one of their "Terms of Service."
However, they could not or would not tell me which one I allegedly violated, and I was told I could not appeal their decision. I received no advance notification, nor have I received any follow-up as to why my account was deactivated. I find this to be a horrible way to do business. Given the way they arbitrarily deactivated my account and no appeal process, or at a minimum the courtesy to let me know what "Terms" I violated - have they never heard of an honest mistake? I, in good conscience, cannot recommend Thumbtack to anyone. I will also be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
Thank you for being a longtime customer. We hear your concerns regarding your account hold and are happy to share that after a full review, the restriction has been removed and your account has been reinstated. We enforce our terms (https://thumbtack.com/terms) to keep our platform secure. We value your business and wish you all the best with your upcoming condo repairs.

Before you waste a lot of time and energy -- like I did - STOP. It is not free as advertised and they should be held accountable for saying they are. The whole setup is an elaborate ruse to charge for "leads." And they say they do a background check, which I doubt they do. There is no proof they do it. Some oversight board should seriously look into this farce.

Thumbtack is hands down one of the most predatory platforms I have ever encountered as a service provider. I genuinely cannot say enough bad things about this company. Even their responses to negative reviews are filled with corporate talking points that completely miss the actual concerns being raised. When you really look at their business model, it becomes pretty clear who their customer is: the service provider—not the customer. Yet the providers are the ones who seem to have the least protection. Their entire model depends on vendors paying for leads, and they have created a system where you can be charged repeatedly for customers who were never realistically going to hire you in the first place.
For starters, Thumbtack does not make it particularly obvious to customers that service providers can be charged simply for receiving a lead or message. Their platform also encourages customers to automatically “reach out to the top 3 pros in your area.” So with one click, Thumbtack charges three different businesses for the exact same customer inquiry. They also conveniently recently removed the ability for customers to see your actual pricing when submitting inquires to service providers upfront unless they read your profile. But with the feature to “message the top three pros” they simply do not. This means customers with budgets far below your minimum pricing can contact you anyway. They obviously aren't going to book you, but you are still be charged for the lead.
I've also had customers contact me about jobs that required special licenses or qualifications that I do not have. Thumbtack still charges for those leads and provides no meaningful protection or refund for situations like this. Recently, Thumbtack changed its refund policy so that if a customer doesn't respond to any pros within 72 hours, you may receive a refund. Sounds great, right? Not really. The customer only has to respond once—even if they don't book anyone—and you no longer qualify for a refund. So if a customer responds to you with a simple “thanks” and never hires anyone, you've still paid for that lead.
At the same time, Thumbtack significantly increased lead prices. They tell providers that they can “choose lead prices that fit within their budget,” but there is an obvious catch: if your lead prices are too low, you receive little to no leads. I recently increased my lead prices significantly, yet my leads still decreased, and I'm still being flagged as “less competitive” even with the slider set roughly three-quarters of the way toward the maximum lead price selector.
And then there is the issue of fake or bad-faith leads. What's stopping a competitor from creating a fake profile and contacting multiple competing businesses simply to make them spend money on leads? What meaningful oversight is in place to prevent this? If businesses are being charged simply because someone sends them a message, there needs to be serious fraud protection and accountability. Instead, providers are essentially told: you pay us because someone clicked a button. That is not a sustainable or fair business model for service providers.
I understand that Thumbtack is a business and needs to make money. But there is a huge difference between charging for a legitimate customer acquisition opportunity and charging businesses for inquiries that were never viable customers to begin with. If you're a service provider considering Thumbtack, I strongly recommend doing your research first. Read the reviews across multiple platforms, understand exactly how their lead charges work, and think carefully about whether the potential return is worth the cost. As for me, I've had enough. I genuinely hope service providers eventually have better alternatives and stop supporting a platform that, in my experience, takes far more from vendors than it gives back.

Thumbtack has let me down countless times. They have this choice that people pick which gives them flexible dates and we don’t get a refund. Thumbtack really needs to think about it and how they are ripping off their vendors. I know so many people who are pissed off about this particular thing and want change to happen. It feels like the company doesn’t listen. Sometimes I get refunds but then other times I don’t for ridiculous reasons mostly because people are able to pick the availability to be open other dates. I also get messaged on dates that are not in my calendar. This company needs to get their act together. They also refund your thumbtack balance, which is ridiculous because it should be going directly to the bank account. Otherwise, how do they expect people to run a business or live?

My experience with Thumbtack. I decided to deactivate my Thumbtack account after realizing that the platform’s lead pricing model simply doesn’t work for my business. Professionals are automatically charged for leads, even when the customer doesn’t become a client. Customers can communicate initially and then disappear, yet the professional is still responsible for the lead charge. I also found the service categories too limited. For example, one lead contacted me specifically for state tax preparation. My business only prepares state returns when they are filed with a federal return, but Thumbtack doesn’t give professionals enough options to clearly define those service limitations. I’ve requested two lead refunds based on situations where the leads did not result in a viable client opportunity, and both requests were denied.
As a small business owner, I have to be able to see a reasonable return on every marketing dollar I spend. At this point, Thumbtack feels more like I’m paying for access to customer inquiries rather than paying for legitimate opportunities to acquire clients. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend the platform based on my experience. I’m deactivating my account and will be investing my marketing budget elsewhere.
We understand how vital every dollar is when running a business, and we appreciate you sharing your perspective. We recognize our platform isn't the right fit for every pro, but detailed feedback regarding tax preparation categories and lead settings drives the improvements we make for our community. We truly appreciate your time on Thumbtack and wish your business continued success.

For professionals, this platform is a rip off. They pit professionals against each other in a race to respond instead of providing quality matches. This guarantees that 2/3 of the companies referred to will pay for a referral they will have no shot at getting unless they do nothing but sit around waiting to reply to leads the moment the notification appears. Good luck if you’re working with a client or doing anything that takes your eyes off of their app. They penalize you with their internal pro rating based on the speed of hitting the reply button instead of prioritizing quality of reviews and quality of the match.
Their customer service is lousy—no availability on weekends and they don’t respond to submissions made through their chatbot, which can’t even remember your last message in the same chat thread. It’s a joke. I was asked about a dozen times for my email address in a single chat thread, only to go in circles and then get no response from them after being assured I would. I submitted a detailed dispute of a review that violates their terms. I waited 5 days and never got a response from anyone in their customer service team. See photos of my complaint they just ignored.
Their lead pricing is totally a mystery—adjusting your weekly budget or maximum lead price makes zero difference in the quality of leads. I have also used the customer app to see how I appear in customer searches and often get a message saying that my business is not a match for the services that are selected in my account set up, when in fact the search criteria match my account settings exactly. It’s all very shady and incompressible from a professional’s perspective. Most of the money you pay for leads is just a waste.
Discovering friction with lead response times, pricing settings, and customer support can be deeply frustrating when working to grow your business. Pros deserve transparent tools and dependable communication as they connect with local customers.
We know you have shared your frustrations with our Support team. However, we would highly encourage you to reach back out to us so that we can dive into your account and hopefully resolve these remaining concerns.

We signed up for Thumbtack as a contractor hoping to try the platform for a few weeks and see if it could help our small business. Unfortunately, we canceled after only one week. We set our weekly spending limit at $150, but within the first four days, we were charged around $400. Even worse, we did not get a single job from the money spent. The few customers we were able to communicate with either had already found someone else or never followed up. I contacted Thumbtack by email, explained the situation, and requested a partial refund for the amount charged above our $150 weekly limit, but the request was denied.
Overall, this was a very disappointing and expensive experience for only a few days of using the platform. We understand that paying for leads does not guarantee a job, but we expected the spending limit we selected to actually control what we were spending. Small businesses and contractors, please be careful with this app and pay very close attention to your charges and account settings. This review is in reference to W&DD contracting. Firstly, Thumbtack does not vet their vendors because if they did W&DD would not have been on the website. This vendor destroyed the crown molding they were to install. They initially measured incorrectly for the amount of material required for the install. The pieces that were installed need to be taken down and replaced. Another expense. The molding was painted before installing which incurred more expense. The incorrect measurements cost me more material and freight. I’ve been advised it will cost an additional $2500.00 to correctly install the molding.
A word to the wise. Any vendor that requires a down payment in advance run away. And if the vendor does not accept credit cards another big red flag. With a credit card a consumer can dispute the charge. It’s my belief that Thumbtack bears responsibility for this egregious event. DO NOT USE THUMBTACK. Save yourself a lot of grief. My experience with the Thumbtack Guarantee was disappointing and far less protective than advertised. I submitted extensive documentation after a contractor hired through the platform left my project incomplete and caused major damage. Even though I followed every instruction, the requirements kept changing — new conditions appeared only after I had already provided what was requested, and deadlines shifted without warning. Thumbtack later rejected my property‑damage claim, saying it was past a 14‑day deadline that was never disclosed to me. This was especially concerning because just two days earlier, they were still asking me for additional repair estimates.
In the end, Thumbtack told me they removed the contractor from the platform and that I “may be eligible” for their $2,500 guarantee — exactly the situation where a guarantee should offer real protection. Based on my experience, the process lacked transparency, introduced shifting criteria, and ultimately provided no meaningful resolution. Customers should be aware of these limitations before relying on the Thumbtack Guarantee.

I cannot recommend Thumbtack Pro based on my experience. I signed up hoping to grow my handyman business, but I spent money on leads and never received a single job. While I understand there is no guarantee of being hired, I found the platform confusing and difficult to manage, especially when it came to understanding how charges and leads worked.
After deciding the service wasn’t a good fit, I requested refunds for the leads I paid for, but those requests were denied. I then removed my payment information and attempted to deactivate my account, only to discover I couldn’t because there was still a pending charge. That was extremely frustrating, especially since I no longer wanted to use the service.
In my experience, I spent money without seeing any return, and the cancellation process was much more difficult than I expected. I believe customers should have clearer information about how lead charges work, more flexibility when disputing charges for leads that don’t result in meaningful opportunities, and a simpler way to cancel their accounts. This was my personal experience, and unfortunately, I won’t be using Thumbtack Pro again.
We hear how frustrating it is to feel like you spent money without seeing results for your handyman business. Running a business takes a lot of effort, and running into roadblocks with billing or getting stuck while trying to close an account is the last thing you need.

I recently hired a cleaning service (rated 5 stars) through Thumbtack for a deep clean and they left the job incomplete. When I expressed a desire to discuss expectations, the vendor instantly deleted their account and texted me from a random number pretending it was a "glitch." I reached out to Thumbtack’s trust and safety team to help find a resolution. Turns out, when a vendor deactivates their account, you can't leave a public review anymore, and Thumbtack doesn’t pursue the matter any further. In my case, the vendor refused to mediation via the platform and started harassing me via text and email. We started using Thumbtack 8 years ago and it was great. Leads were about $6-$8 and as a one person electrical com, I was able to start a good base of customers. Now leads are running around $40-$50, even for a $75 service call. It is awful. I would use any other lead service. Their customer service is very responsive, but they normally cannot do anything about it. As a small business handyman or service person you will pay more in leads to Thumbtack than you will make on jobs.
We appreciate your partnership with us for the past 8 years and hearing that lead costs are putting a strain on your electrical business is truly tough. Market demand and dynamic pricing have shifted over time, but supporting local service providers remains our top priority!
We would encourage you to reach back out to our Support team. We would be happy to dive deeper into your account and see how we can find a budget you're comfortable with and hopefully help you find success.

My experience with the Thumbtack Guarantee has left me seriously questioning what protection it actually provides to customers. I submitted a claim after a project arranged through Thumbtack was left incomplete and required substantial corrective work. Throughout the process, I provided extensive documentation, including the original contract, proof of payment, photographs, correspondence, receipts, and independent estimates.
Despite cooperating with every request, the requirements appeared to change repeatedly. New conditions were introduced after documents had already been obtained and submitted, deadlines were moved, and I was eventually given only a few days to provide additional information that had not previously been requested.
Thumbtack ultimately refused to accept one estimate because the contractor did not have a sufficiently verifiable online business presence. This requirement had not been clearly communicated when I was originally instructed to obtain estimates. Had it been disclosed from the beginning, I could have ensured that the estimate met their specific criteria.
I was also told that Thumbtack is a neutral platform that cannot take sides. However, Thumbtack repeated the original contractor’s claims regarding the value of work allegedly completed without explaining what independent evidence supported those claims. At the same time, the extensive photographic and documentary evidence I submitted did not appear to receive comparable weight. Rather than providing meaningful protection under the Guarantee, Thumbtack closed the claim and advised me to pursue the contractor directly through local resources. That is precisely the situation in which a customer would expect a guarantee to provide assistance.
My concern is therefore not simply about the contractor. It is about a Guarantee process that, in my experience, lacked transparency, introduced changing evidentiary requirements, imposed shifting deadlines, and ultimately provided no practical resolution. Customers should carefully review the terms and limitations of the Thumbtack Guarantee before relying on it as protection when hiring through the platform. Based on my experience, the Guarantee did not provide the level of support or security I reasonably believed it would
It is disheartening to hear about your experience with our Trust and Safety team. Customers deserve clarity and consistency when navigating unexpected project outcomes, and we hold ourselves to a high standard to make sure our processes and guarantees are transparent and clear as well.

I was a plumbing contractor for Thumbtack and it has been a horrible experiment. Lead quality is horrible. No customer service. No manager to speak with. They want you to beg for refund by email. They give bad leads. I get a lead for 79. The job pays 50. The point system is a joke. My points haven't added up correctly since I first became a platinum badge member, which is probably why I haven't been getting as many customer responses. I call. Ask for help and the lady named Cat can't do anything but make reports that never get answered. Very disappointed. I figured thumbtack would provide the same level of service I do as a company owner.

You pay for leads before you get the job!!! Other people are trying to get the same job you are so they are getting money from you plus the other people waiting for the customer to pick who they want for the job. You pay 53.00 so does everyone else almost like bidding for it. So say there are 5 other people that's 53.00 from you and 53.00 from the other people that's 318.00 they have made off of the one customer looking for a clean. You don't get your money back if they don't pick you!!!! I lost 138.00 in one day my first day on the platform. Please don't use Thumbtack. They should be ashamed!!! Since then I've deleted my account now trying to get my bank to refund me since thumbtack won't.
Starting a new journey as a local pro takes real dedication, and experiencing unexpected marketing costs on day one is deeply frustrating. Thumbtack operates on a pay-per-lead system to connect pros with customers actively looking for services like house cleaning, rather than charging a commission per completed job.
We recognize this model might not be perfect for every business. However, we would love to get back on the phone and see how we can help you have better success!

This service is horrible. They will charge you when ever they want, even if you do not reply to a customer and getting a refund is almost impossible. They will put you on hold for 30 minutes only to hang up on you when inquiring about a refund. Also, most customers on here only use the lowest bidder, so if that is who you are looking for, it might work out.
Discovering unexpected charges and long hold times when managing your business budget is incredibly frustrating. Thumbtack charges for upfront connections based on your profile's set preferences, but hearing that your refund requests and support calls led to disconnections is deeply concerning.
We're also disappointed to read about your feedback regarding our Support process. We will take this feedback back to our team to hopefully improve your next interaction with our team.

They let customers write bad reviews just because you declined a job.
Reviews are such an important part of the customer journey on Thumbtack. This is why we allow reviews from the moment the interaction starts, not just when you are hired for the job. We understand how disappointing a negative review can be. While we don't edit or remove reviews, we do encourage our pros to respond to these reviews with their side of the situation. This is a great chance to show future customers how you handle tough situations!

These guys are big scammers, STAY AWAY., I register with them, they asked me to put my debit card information "for customer direct deposit." The minute I put my card info, I was charged $208, 2 days later I checked my bank account. I found out they’ve charged me 3 times after that, each time $225, I tried to call or leave note but AI answers, I had to canceled my card and call my Bank. I also found out they tried to charge me another 3 time but the charges got declined, without even open their app,
We never want our lead charges to feel like a surprise. Pros on Thumbtack do agree to the lead costs associated with connecting to potential customers. However, it's important to be in control of these charges and we understand that! If you haven't yet, please give our Support team a call at (866) 501-5809. I have heard about this site for quite awhile, this morning I went on the website, found a contractor I thought was a good fit, I filled out all the information that was asked for and then I received an email telling me this. "You’re off to a great start. Here's what's next: Thumbtack Instyvis will get back to you soon." NO ONE EVER GOT BACK TO ME, VERY DISSAPPOINTED
Hearing that this pro did not get back to you is certainly disappointing, and your frustration is completely understandable. Since Pros advertising on Thumbtack operate their businesses independently, we always encourage sharing request details with a few different Pros. Doing this allows you to gather multiple quotes and perspectives to select the best fit for your specific goals. If you want direct assistance connecting with an available pro, please give our team a call at (866) 501-5809.

Beware!! Read the other reviews. Customer service is horrible. They have refused to honor a new customer $50 off promo. They've agreed that I should have received it but won't refund me the promo amount because of technical issue they refuse to fix. It is incredibly disappointing to hear about your experience with our customer service team and the trouble with your new customer promo. I suggest people not use Thumbtack with the experience I just had, June 19, 2026. Ashcraft Tech a firm in Denver, Colorado that does Home Entertainment installs and breakdowns. I had this firm do a breakdown of the $60,000 to $75,000 Audio/Visual equipment to move to a new home in Centennial, Colorado, was done on June 19, 2026 and new install on June 22, 2026. Team was to state install after 11:30 and go to later afternoon. Two young people showed up at 12:30 and could not do any of the work and had to call the owner for support. Jordan Ashcraft showed up, angry and mad, why I don't know, I was told by his helpers the work on the reinstall since they did not know who the equipment was to be put together.
From that the owner got mad, call the employees to leave the premises and told me the they were not going to do the install, as he yelled at me walking away to leave he yelled how my equipment was junk and trash and he was use to working with the rich people in Denver, throwing out name of people I knew. Leaving me with my equipment on the floor of the entertainment room with no power cables or any of the wire hook up for all the equipment. I texted I wanted my cords and wiring back, so far no response. At this point I have contact one of the local TV station to see if they can help me retrieve what I need to make my entertainment equipment whole and useable, otherwise it is useless to me and he has cost me $75,000 in equipment I can only look at.

I have sent email after email including pictures where the customer says they have hired someone else. Or just browsing we are still changed. They make it their business to get at least $50 out of you account rather you do a job or not. I'm starting to believe they are make fake job postings. Imma just save all my screenshots and emails and await on a lawsuit to get started. “” They have to be breaking some law. Please take a deeper look into this company.
