The Microwave caught fire as a result of using the microwave sensor cooking option to cook a medium size potato. It burned the potato to crisp leaving the oven scorched and ruined. Apparently this is not an isolated incident and in my opinion it is an safety issue that should be addressed by Sharp ASAP. My confidence with sharp and its products has been shattered. Would never buy again.

I bought a microwave and the light blew after 5 months. I got a replacement, and the same thing happened within 6 months. It is a design fault. They are no longer using incandescent lights which would last years. Sharp are trying to reduce energy consumption with new electronic low energy circuit lights which have a short life span. I was advised in store that Sharp know about it and are trying to rectify. I asked if I could return the microwave given it was twice in 12 months, and Sharp have said NO.

Another issue is the clock doesn't run properly. I thought my husband was accidentally pressing wrong buttons, but looking at other reviews, seems this also is a problem with clock not keeping correct time. The warranty is only 12 months, so be warned, if you buy this microwave, based on my experience, you may be visiting the service centre every 6 months, and having to pay for the replacement bulb after the the 12 month warranty runs out. Very disappointed in Sharp, having been an avid user for over 30 years. Customer Care response was a definite no. You can't return. Go to service center - and it will take 2-4 weeks to repair. Not a satisfactory solution given it has happened twice now in 12 months.

When we first purchased it I burnt some popcorn because I pushed the wrong button and the bag caught on fire. We had to unplug and take the microwave outside to cool down and it has worked perfectly even after that catastrophe. The coffee reheat button is 1min 10 secs which I wish was 1min 20 secs. Overall it is a great microwave oven. Purchased at Walmart and not overpriced. I would recommend this oven.

This is an under counter “drawer” type MW. It has all the features one might need and works well. Instead of a rotating plate it has a dispersion unit built into the unit. One downside is that the control panel is not backlighted and this is minor problem but for those who don’t want to turn on the lights to make a bag of popcorn it is a problem. The drawer operates smoothly and there are no spills on opening or closing as long as you use the auto function which can be overridden just by pulling on the drawer. However not a good idea to do that if you have a bowl or cup full of liquid.

I purchased the microwave in Jan 2014 from Best Buy. It was the display model. The manufacturer date is Oct 2011 but was not used. Last night while defrosting bananas, it smelled like our house was on fire! We didn't immediately consider the microwave because there were no flames or smoke but it is under the granite countertop in our island. We checked everywhere in the house looking for a fire, even turning off the can lights but did not find any flames.

We decided it had to be the microwave and removed it from the cabinet. The inside smells just like a fire. It was very scary. I called Sharp this morning (knowing it is out of warranty) and they honestly didn't care a bit. Said they could send out a service tech for a fee. I am not interested in fixing the microwave that could have burned down our house. I am disappointed in the lack of concern from Sharp. Will not buy any more Sharp products. This is the second Sharp microwave I have caught fire in less than 5 years! Each one started a fire inside and left a burnt mark on the right inside wall of the microwave where there is a small cover plate that seems to be made of paper! The first microwave fire was caused by using sensor cook, the microwave was still cooking when I saw a small flame from the right side of the microwave. I have since replaced the microwave with the same model.

The second fire was just last week while I was reheating a muffin for 20 seconds, I did not see the fire but I smell the toxic fumes when I open the door and also found the burnt on the paper covering on the right inside wall of the microwave. Same spot as the first fire last time. I am concern that this microwave is unsafe to use, I mainly use the microwave for reheat and I am not a frequent user of it. Not more than 10 minutes a day. So I don’t think the microwave should have this kind of performance. How do I file a consumer complain about this safety issue?

This is my second Sharp microwave to burn up. We called the company the first time to report our microwave had went on fire and my husband hurt his hand throwing it out the back door. It was right before Christmas so we were forced to go out and get another microwave for the holidays because they refused to handle this in a timely manner. We purchased another sharp thinking that they would reimburse us when we settled with the company. They sent me a disclosure letter that I refused to sign so they were not willing to discuss any reimbursement after that.

Moving forward a couple of years later with the second microwave while cooking a Potato, on the potato setting the microwave started to smoke up the whole house. It was a electrical smell and fried itself out. When I called the company to explain that this is the second time this has happened and to ask if maybe there was a recall they said no. After sending photo upon their request they contacted me and offered ME TO BUY another one directly from THEM. They also wanted the sticker from inside the microwave and for me to sign a disclosure. Bottom line... this is happening very often and probably should be recalled. I hope someone doesn't get really hurt. This is negligence.

I bought this Sharp Carousel microwave (Model SMC1840CS) in January 2018 to replace our old Sharp that we had used for a number of years. This one worked well, until it quit heating on February 23, 2019. From troubleshooting it sounds like the magnetron is done. I used the 30 second button for something and remember smelling a strange odor, like a mechanical smell, from the microwave. The food seemed warm enough so I didn't worry about it. The next time I used it the buttons worked, display worked, light came on, microwave turned on (made a louder buzzing sound), it beeped at the end. However, the food was still ice cold.

Since I'm writing this review there were some other minor issues with the Sharp that we didn't like, but just dealt with. The buttons were difficult to see in low light (I can't be the only one who doesn't want to have to turn on a light to be able to use the microwave.) The display was extra bright, but it didn't help with trying to see the buttons. It blinded you, like high beams on a dark road. Backlit buttons would have been nice. The beep at the end was louder and beeped longer than necessary and it didn't stop if you opened the door. You had to touch the stop button to shut it off. So if you only need a microwave for about a year, this may be the microwave for you.

Sharp called us and offered to replace unit for $325.00. There is a 5 year warranty on tube. My main concern now is why so many of these $1000 plus unit fail and potentially are a fire hazard. I have written Sharp voicing my concerns and feel a recall is in order especially if there is a fire concern as reported by many consumers and if they have addressed the faulty part. I purchased the Sharp microwave on June 26, 2018. Many times the glass cooking tray did not remain on the coupler when it was cooking and especially when removing items from the microwave. Several times I have experienced the microwave cooking for five (5) minutes and it just shut off ? powered off. Then I had to wait about ten (10) minutes before it powered on again. When it powered on again the microwave was not in the cook mode. The microwave had to be reprogrammed. What can I do about these problems.

Sharp's Response: “I understand that the turntable tray will not stay on the coupler in your SHARP SMC1132CS microwave and the unit also shuts down. I do apologize for the inconvenience and I will be happy to advise. Where is the unit located e.g. on the counter, in a trim kit? Is the unit properly ventilated with at least 4 of space around the unit? Have you tried unplugging the microwave for approximately 30 seconds and then re-plug to see if the issue remains?”

My Response: “The microwave is on the counter. It is not enclosed in a trim kit. The microwave is properly ventilated. Yes we have unplugged the microwave and moved it on the counter to a different outlet. The problem continued to exist. We have used the first outlet for another appliance and we have not had any problems with that appliance working properly. We checked with an electrician and the power sources in the kitchen are very adequate to accommodate the microwave. What is the next step to correct this problem?”

Sharp's Response: “Thank you for responding with that information. In order to move forward with your case, we ask that you send a video of the unit shutting down to cecrl@sharpsec.com, and attach your case number in the subject line. The video should be approximately 10mb in size. After we have received your video, your case will be sent to the relevant department and you will be contacted within one (1) business day.” My Response: “I cannot imagine that you would expect someone to try to make a video of the unknown. We do not know when the microwave is going to shut down, if so we would not use it at that time. This is the first Sharp product we have purchased and it will be the last. We will discontinue using the microwave and purchase a brand that is more severable and reliable. This microwave has been such a headache. We will not donate it to any organization. We bought this microwave (Model Number SMC1840CS) July last year at a Walmart. We usually don't buy appliances from Walmart but we just moved to the area and it was the closest store. A couple times over the year it would make a funny noise while microwaving. Then this morning, I went to heat something up, and it was making a very loud buzzing noise. The item did not heat up. I tried 3 more times unplugging and plugging back in and nothing. No heat, just a loud buzzing noise. I need to go out today and buy a new microwave now since I use it often. I will not be buying a Sharp, that is certain!

I have owned 3 Sharp microwaves. The first one lasted almost 20 years. I don't expect anywhere near that for this new one. I purchased this one in March 2015. The roller ring under the glass tray lost a wheel. I called Sharp with all my info (model, serial #). I was then told they don't have that part. I was given a number to a company who doesn't carry Sharp parts yet and said Sharp is constantly giving their number out. I have searched online with no luck. My model # doesn't even exist so how am I to find a part. You have to use the ring for your glass tray so I guess I'm out of luck and need to buy a new microwave over such an important part! I will say one thing... MY NEXT MICROWAVE WILL NOT BE A SHARP!

Spoke to this guy in the morning and still didn’t hear from this company.

The reviews on this microwave are horrible and they need to fix the problem once and for all!!! I will never buy any products from this company ever again. This is my fault for not looking up the reviews on this piece of garbage that they sell. Soon I will walk into P.C. I purchased a new microwave in July 2017 - Model R-1214-T. I placed a microwave meal in the oven and set the timer. When I looked through the oven window several minutes later, there was a flame and a smoky smell. Something in the microwave happened that was hot enough that it melted a hole in the glass turntable. Glass melts at 2600 to 2800 degrees. There was also a blackened spot on the floor of the oven showing signs of the severe event. I contacted Sharp and they concluded that there was a fire caused by food build-up.

Their conclusion is not possible. First, it wasn't a fire as much as it was some type of electrical event. It was hot enough to melt a hole in the glass turntable and incinerate the microwave meal. Second, they are claiming the soot from the incinerated microwave meal is evidence of the food build-up. They are effectively claiming the results of the event caused the event. Fortunately, it didn't go beyond the oven and burn my house down. Unfortunately, Sharp is not taking responsibility for a dangerous product.

We had a Sharp Microwave of this size that lasted for 15 years until it gave out, so decided to get another Sharp of this size. The SMC1442CS 1.4 cu.ft. met our requirements, so I bought one. It has some basic design & engineering flaws that are the reason for this review: 1.) The control panel is not backlit & the print on it is impossible to read in a well lit kitchen. How much money did they save by eliminating that feature?

2.) The numerical keys from 1 through 6 serve several functions. If I or my 4 year old grandson push the 6 key, it immediately comes on & cooks for 6 minutes. A more logical choice would have been to push a [EXPRESS] button then the [6] button so g'son could not have been able to turn it on with the push of one button.

3.) To set the time & cook for 65 seconds, I must push the [TIME COOK] button, then the [6] button, the [5] button, and the [START] button. A more logical choice would have been to push the [6] and the [5] & the [START] button with no need for a [TIME COOK] button.

This might seem trivial, but it is unsafe with a child in the house. It has "CHILD SAFETY LOCK" feature, but it is a nuisance, inconvenience & annoyance. If # 2) & 3) were implemented, the "CHILD SAFETY LOCK" would be unnecessary. This is why I rated it ✮✮ (Dissatisfied with the experience). I do not recommend this product.

This time I set it up in the store to make sure everything was working. Same thing, the power level button didn't work.

I called Sharp customer service to find out if it was the machine or me that was doing something wrong. Wouldn't you know I got some guy in some foreign country with a heavy accent. So I had to get a manager to approve this and when they went to get it the guy on the phone says I can't stay on the phone any longer. That set me off and I told him so and hung up. The guy at Best Buy then comes back with another Sharp and we checked it out and that one had the same problem with the power level button not working. That was 3 Sharp microwaves that were the same model that didn't work. Is there any quality control at the manufacturer? Oh that's right, they're made in CHINA!!!! Don't waste your time with Sharp.

The replacement unit is now priced over $1,000. We were told by the repairman that popcorn and bacon ruined the microwave. Tried to work with Sharp to at least get a discount on a new one and we were declined. Now we are understanding that the magnetron usually comes with a 5 year warranty... Which neither Sharp nor the technician bothered to mention. Very disappointed with the quality of the microwave - our previous microwave lasted 15 years. Also disappointed with the follow up service and their lack of support for their own product.

One was a 20-litre capacity Sharp which went wrong while under warranty and was replaced by an identical model. This too simply broke down and could not be repaired satisfactorily. So we simply threw it away. The second microwave in question, is a Sharp R-959M-A with grill and convection. This is cutting out when in use and is evidently overheating. We emailed Sharp in UK and they did not even bother to reply. We got it checked by a qualified technician and are seriously considering simply throwing it away because it appears that Sharp machines have an unreasonably short trouble-free lifetime and that it is not cost effective to repair them... "When?" - and then Sharp responded "well, we do not know when. We do not have any in inventory."

After attempting to get any ETA from the rep on the telephone (thru a laborious, inane, scripted response), we simply agreed they would call us weekly. We called the store (Setzer's) that sold us the microwave and they told us to call the warranty number and tell them they had several in stock that could be used. So... we called Sharp back and they said "we have a policy that we cannot work thru the store - it has to come from our stock." I again asked if the policy could be reviewed. They noted they would take a look at it and see what they could do. I am fairly confident that we will not have the microwave in time for XMAS Dinner. As I re-read my comments above, I can only wonder how many other folks have suffered through the Sharp warranty process. This is definitely a company that DOES NOT stand behind their product.

Just a few days back I am ashamed to say that I wrote a bad review about Sharp microwave when mine broke down after 8 days beyond the warranty period. I SHOULD have contacted Sharp customer service before writing the review but it was a Sunday. Monday morning I called Sharp microwave division using and explained my problem. I was transferred to customer service and the person was extremely polite and nice and told me just fax or e-mail as an attachment the label from inside my microwave and the bill of sale. I sent them and within minutes got a response thanking me and explaining that I will be getting a replacement within 3-5 days. That was on this past Monday - 11/21/16. Expected the delivery after this holiday rush. To my surprise, I got the replacement this morning. So in future I will buy only Sharp equipment - we already had Sharp TV and another microwave. Thank you again for posting my review.

    Original Review: Nov. 20, 2016

I purchased a Sharp microwave last year, on 11/12/2016. This morning when I tried to use it to cook some potato pieces suddenly the sound of the microwave changed and a burnt smell came. So at once I switched it off. Then I tried to warm already cooked sweet potato pudding just for 30 seconds. Again burnt smell and the sweet potato did not warm at all. When I looked at the warranty, it says "Parts and labor for I year." So exactly one week after purchasing it went out of service, as if the company knew that it will last only one year. This is the last time I purchase one. We -- both in our late 70's mainly use the microwave just to warm the cooked food and occasionally to defrost some vegetables. Purchased from BJ's wholesale store.

My Sharp Microwave Drawer was provided by our builder in our brand new home. I had used the microwave and after three months the microwave made a popping sound, smelled like burnt rubber and emitted smoke. I called the company and was told that even though it was a new microwave, I had to provide proof by faxing my home settlement papers. After retrieving one of the papers from the lock box at the bank, I copied and sent it to Sharp. I received an e-mail back saying they will contact me in 7 to 10 days. After two weeks and my follow up, I received a call from a delivery service, not a repair person, who came and put my microwave in. I have no idea how safe this all is but know this is absolutely unacceptable.

Sharp knows there is a serious problem with these microwaves and that the company did not correctly cover and paint the heating element properly during manufacturing. This is why the microwaves blow up. Sharp is hiding from product recall and liability by refusing to accept adequate responsibility for the company's manufacturing defect. Until Sharp is pressured by a government agency or other institutional board they will keep stuffing the problem and preventing any public notices for as long as they can. Or Sharp will be forced to accept liability because someone was seriously hurt or injured by their faulty product.

Discovered that under the drawer, there was metal that was burning! We were in the house approximately 5 months when this occurred! It took them 2+ months to finally replace the microwave! Now, approximately 2 months later the "replaced" microwave started smoking and smelling. Definitely, a serious problem with these things! They want to do nothing to help you. Now they are sending "someone" out to look at it and it will be another 2+ months before they get back to me! Certainly, a disgrace of a company! They keep telling me that I'm the only one that has ever had this problem??? With two of their microwaves? I should play the lottery!!!

I bought an R-551ZS on Nov. 30, 2016, after ice storm power surge killed old reliable Sharp purchased ca. 1990. That unit would stop, with no display, with the back upper right corner very hot to the touch, and not resume until cooled for 5 mins or so. Sharp sent an identical replacement. It did the very same thing on first use on July 4, 2016. Sharp then sent an R-651ZS, which had worked fine since received about 10 days later, until this evening. I microwaved a cup of coffee for 40 seconds and on opening the door at end of cycle, the display went to "0" instead of the time of day and the internal light was brightening and dimming, while a sizzling sound emanated from inside the back of the unit where there are vent openings near the power cord, where I would assume can be found the electronics and power supply. The sizzling sound stopped the second I unplugged the unit.

As an experiment, I plugged it back in and there was no sizzling sound, the internal light was steady, and I was able to reset the clock. However, I will NOT risk a fire in my home with a disabled sister who might not make it out in time, so I will not be using the unit. I e-mailed the last customer service contact from the last episode within 5 minutes of the event, today, Saturday. I don't expect a reply until the next business day. The reps were very responsive on the earlier two incidents, but at this point I will never buy another product with the Sharp brand name on it. Three defective units in such a short time suggests to me that their quality control is ineffective and perhaps their engineering design department or they're getting defective electronic components from their suppliers.

This is really a shame as the product I bought ca. 1990 was a trooper without a single issue. It was that reliability that induced me to buy that first replacement Sharp unit on Nov. 30, 2015. I haven't looked, but I'm guessing that the 1990 unit was likely U.S.-made and these later units Chinese. There have been many documented cases of Chinese electronics suppliers delivering counterfeit capacitors and such. I'm thinking Sharp may be a victim, in a sense, of similar supply issues, but when it comes right down to it, Sharp is responsible for their own quality control not just in their own manufacturing process but for the parts they buy from vendors that go into their products.

And you can bet that if their product results in a fire, I will hire the world-class attorney (used to be Richard Nixon's guy), who lives just up the road from me, to recover costs of any home repairs. Not that I would let it get to that. The thing won't be used again and I'll be researching other makes for its replacement (not to include Whirlpool, with their record of recent fires in THEIR units!).

It seems ridiculous to think you cannot go into a store and buy a piece of mature technology and have it actually work, SAFELY, in this day and age. These companies building to a low price point have got to realize there is a threshold below which they should not go and which the consumer will not either when pennies saved here or there result in products that are unsafe and potentially deadly. No matter the future response to today's issue, I will have no faith in Sharp to deliver a reliable or safe product. And I don't even much care about a refund. The safety of my home is worth more than what I'll spend to replace this unit tomorrow.

Purchased microwave December 2014 - after year and a half the following occurred. Family sitting in kitchen - microwave not in use - heard crackling noise like when someone puts metal in - then door of microwave shatters like crackled glass - immediately unplugged. Contacted Sharp to find out if this had ever happened before - stated "no" - was told they would contact their technical experts and get back to me? Experts? Said it was not a manufacturing issue??? They asked me if I thought it was a safety concern? Of course - Yes! duh. They opened up a case # on the incident and then offered to prorate a new one, same model for $100.

After jumping through hoops to provide paperwork - finally received the new model. Guess what? They shipped the wrong one - lower wattage and smaller. I was not home to unpack - relative did. When plugged in to use, sounded like a Mack truck - smelled like something was burning up inside and did not heat food. Now back in communication with Sharp to take back incorrect model R-559Y and send another - hopefully the correct model. Very dissatisfied with customer service - should have replaced POC at no charge. Good luck with your safety if you purchase this model or any other Sharp microwaves.

We originally purchased this convection microwave in 2011 and just after the 5 year warranty the motherboard and microwave tube burned up. I found the same model at Home Depot and purchased on 4/9/16 (as we had the original installed into a cabinet and I didn't want to do any construction as I now take care of my paralyzed husband who had a massive stroke 2 years ago).

Last evening the microwave started emitting a very unpleasant chemical odor, so I turned it off and began searching for the cause. The turntable motor shaft, turntable support and the bottom of the removable turntable were all burned. I suspect faulty components in the motor. I spent over 2 hours on the phone this morning with their service department (can't even call it customer service because there was no customer service) with 4 different people all telling me different things.

I explained my fear with having this product repaired as I believe it is the motor and I can't chance a fire in my home as it might be impossible to get my paralyzed husband and myself to safety should it cause a fire. I asked for my money back as it has only been 4 months since it was purchased. They refused. Their supervisor also told me that you are never to cook food in the microwave covered. I asked them to review their own product booklet as page 7 stipulates food is to be covered. I sent them an email and asked that they might consider obtaining additional training to their supervisors on their company's products. Will never purchase another Sharp product and will use my night time hours researching various sites to post complaints on their products. Am also going to find out who the CEO and President are and send them detailed complaints with employee names.

When I called the authorized dealer they shared they no longer deal with Sharp. The authorized dealer said Sharp offers no technical support, also it takes up to 3 months to get parts as well. The authorized dealer shared Sharp is not a good company to work with. I've been left high and dry with a dangerous problematic expensive microwave and no authorized dealers to fix the microwave. I followed the instructions and called Sharp for an authorized servicer. Long story short, no one within a two-hour drive would service my appliance, whether in warranty or out. Sharp's customer "help" line was useless - and their annoying people just kept reading from their scripts and passing me to yet another person that would read me service provider lists several hundred miles away. I was on the phone with them for well over an hour.

I also called the place I bought the unit from (Appliance Factory Outlet) - they do not service anything, but dump the service on another company. That company (Brand Source) would not work on the microwave, citing inability to get parts reliably. I also talked to one other service professional that I found locally, and he would not work on the unit, citing how difficult it was to work with Sharp and that the pay for warranty work did not cover his costs. Note: the magnetron was still under warranty, even though the rest of the parts were not, so I had to get someone to confirm if the problem was in or out of warranty. If you are foolish enough to buy one of these units, make sure that you buy it from a company that SERVICES THEIR OWN APPLIANCE SALES. The other option is to pay the extra money for an extended warranty - then the insurance company has to deal with the problem.

We turned it off and unplugged it immediately, removed it from the space and the kitchen. Sharps briefly took our complaint seriously, sent someone out to evaluate it, etc., but because it was a problem with the fuse, noise filter unit, and switch - which had started on fire (and not a problem with the magnetron) - they refused to cover it. We appealed the determination on the grounds that it is a safety hazard but they still refused to replace the parts of or the entire oven. This is a photo from the video we took of it smoking. This is after we pulled it out of the space to take it outside so it wouldn't start a fire in our kitchen. It was very, very hot to touch.

I'm sorry to hear of everyone's problems with their Sharps' but mines been fine, must be the model #. Anyway I've had it for years (can't remember how long but it's probably more than 10). The only reason I'm now looking for the exact same model I had is because it's been so great! I scratched on the inside, now the plastic's come undone and it's started to rust. but for the amount of years I've had it; it's been well worth it. No overheating, no on by itself, not an issue whatsoever. Loved using the 1 touch button feature for: coffee, popcorn and 1 plate heating feature. Even the defrosting was awesome it would stop halfway and ask to turn the product over and press the start button off it went to re-heat the other side. I am not a paid actor or paid for this endorsement. Just wish I could remember where I bought this one, so I could get the exact same thing. :)

Purchased first one for kitchen remodel. It worked for less than 2 years with light use, and consistently using the "open" and "close" buttons instead of manually opening and closing drawers. Drawer mechanism failed. Shaked violently then sparked and buzzed and eventually burned out. Called Sharp after reading of many other similar experiences. I am a very busy mom and business owner and am not interested in the numerous service calls, replacement parts, dissatisfaction that I discovered many others have had. I have no time. I don't want the aggravation or anger that will certainly come with it. So, I was willing to just purchase a new one and cut my losses and certain frustration. I was hoping Sharp had a customer retention program where they would offer a discount on a replacement.

After 6 weeks of runaround and multiple phone calls (that were polite and non-confrontational) it was escalated to their Customer Response team. They eventually declined my request (after stringing me along for too long) and offered me several phone numbers of local repair shops. EXACTLY what I was trying to avoid, and could have done 6 weeks earlier and had a new microwave by now. During this time, I did some research and learn that the only other drawer microwaves are actually Sharp products with other manufacturer's (GE, etc) nameplates and fronts on them (essentially). So no matter what "drawer" microwave I choose I am actually buying another Sharp product. No wonder they have no incentive to provide any customer credit whatsoever. So I contact Karl's Appliance with whom I purchased my first one (as well as other appliances), and tell them the story of how I need to replace my $850 broken microwave.

They at least did provide a reasonable discount towards a new one. Almost 3 weeks to the day, AND after purchasing an extended warranty this time (which ate up the difference in Karl's discount, btw) the new microwave buzzes and grinds for a few seconds upon start. Doesn't happen with each use, but enough for me to have serious safety concerns, and regret that I designed my kitchen with a drawer microwave, because I seem to have no choice now but to continually replace with Sharp or Sharp derivative products. I just called Karl's again to let them know, and am currently awaiting their reply and advice as to what to do next. WTF Sharp? I maintained my cool. I was polite. What I was asking for was beyond fair, even generous considering your products are worthless, faulty, dangerous, and overall low-quality goods and expensive to replace.

I WILL NEVER, EVER BUY ANOTHER SHARP PRODUCT. EVER. Even if it means I have to replace the custom cabinet that was created to hold this microwave, I will do it. I have no confidence that this product will not burn my house down, or worse. Sharp, I got nothing from you. But I do have a voice and I know how to use it (I own a marketing company) and plan to re-post this on every single forum/customer satisfaction/complaint site I can find and urge others to do the same. I will follow up with links to other forums for other Sharp victims to use once I select the most credible avenues. Sharp, you had ample opportunity to do the right thing. If I can dissuade just one person (I fully suspect more) from purchasing your products, I will have my Karmic justice.

We purchased a microwave drawer for a kitchen remodel. The second time I used the microwave it caught on fire. I put an egg sandwich wrapped in a paper towel (as their manual suggests) in the microwave for 1:30 as I have for years. The new microwave has a warm option. My husband was not ready yet, so I put it on the warm option for 5 minutes. It did not make it 2 minutes until flames were shooting out of the microwave. Sharp took away our warranty and blamed the fire on me, saying I cooked the sandwich too long. Sharp has been rude and argumentative through the whole process. This happened May 15, 2015 and still we have no microwave. Goedeckers, the store we purchased it from will not replace it because Sharp took away the warranty.

I am so disheartened that consumers do not have more protection than this. I will never have another Sharp product! "Sharp is dedicated to improving people's lives through the use of advanced technology and a commitment to innovation, quality, value, and design" yet my microwave keeps blowing up! I purchased your $1000.00 EXTENSIVE QUALITY CONTROLLED product approx. 2 years ago and have been using it less than 2 years. The unit exploded while warming a baby bottle back in Dec 2014. The EXTENSIVE QUALITY CONTROLLED product SPARKED, SIZZLED, SMOKED and eventually died while my young children were waiting for their milk. At that point, I opened a claim with Sharp and YOUR CLAIMS DEPARTMENT DEEMED IT A SAFETY ISSUE and a technician was sent out to my home to replace the faulty board.

LESS THAN A YEAR later, THE SAME THING HAPPENED AGAIN, but they are now declining responsibility that the product clearly is defective. The technician that came to my home, told me that it was the SAME PART THAT HAD AGAIN FAILED. Does my house have to burn down because of a possible fire? I spent a lot of money on this unit, because I thought I was buying a quality product and it has caused nothing but problems since day one. I have had to go out and purchase another microwave in the meantime while I have waited patiently for Sharp to review my case. I am extremely disgusted that you won't honor this faulty, unsafe unit.

I WILL NEVER PURCHASE A SHARP PRODUCT AGAIN! Your organization ought to be ashamed of themselves charging $1000.00 for a piece of junk that has faulty parts. Sharp microwave under counter - model # KB6524PS - We have had the worst experience with this product, the manufacturer and their representative. While our Sharp is technically 4 years old, the house we bought was brand new and sat for three years.. We purchased the house and have only used the product for the last year. The drawer mechanism that automatically opens and closes the door is not operating. We called Sharp and they sent their representative to review and problem. This service/review visit cost us $149. We were told the part Sharp had given the rep was either not the right part or the wrong part. The drawer still didn't work.

The rep discussed this with Sharp and they sent him another part. He came back out to "fix" the microwave but once again, the part was not the right part as it didn't fix the problem. We were told to call Sharp as they might give us credit towards another microwave or do something. Evidently there are 5 different parts that could or might fix the problem but Sharp is not willing to send all the parts to the Rep so he can make one visit and fix the problem. The second visit/service call cost $159 and as mentioned, didn't fix the problem. We called Sharp and tried to reason with them to make this one last service call as we have paid over $300 and still no resolution. Sharp's idea is to keep feeding their Rep with parts one at a time to see what works. If we kept doing that it would potentially cost us another $450.

This entire process is flawed and totally not above board. We have to use "their" representative which makes you think this is not necessarily "above board"... We have decided to keep the microwave and use it "broken" even though there is potential for us to burn ourselves. We simply can't afford to keep paying $150 each visit and have the product still not work.

July 10, 2014, I bought a Sharp Microwave to replace a GE Microwave that burned out after 12 years of use. I am kicking myself for not purchasing another GE. April 5, the microwave makes a loud buzzing noise and starts to spark on the inside. I pull the plug, just as the inside wall of the microwave is melting and ready to catch fire. There was some smoke, but I caught it right away since I was standing next to the unit and had vented all the smoke out very quickly with no other damage. I call Customer Service April 6 where they ask I email photos and state that they will send a replacement unit same day. I call back to make sure they received the photos and the story changes. Now they want a safety inspector to call because of the fire hazard. I don't get a replacement until I get that call. I have to wait 3 days for my "turn" which makes me wonder how many fire hazards they have to deal with?

April 9, I call again because I didn't hear from the safety inspector. The story changes a third time. Now they claim the inspector closed the file based on the photos and a new unit would be mailed April 9 and that I should have it by Monday, April 13. Here we are April 15, I call to see "where is the replacement". The story changes again... They did not send the replacement when they said they would on April 9 because they needed me to write a letter of demand to get the replacement. So I write a formal letter and email it off, but not before calling corporate and complaining to the person in charge of Reverse Logistics on their voice mail about the stories that keep changing. Let's note that no one from Mahwah called back. Go figure.

I do get a call from the original claim rep who changes the story again. The document I need to sign is a "hold harmless" agreement indicating they will send a replacement unit and that I am not going to seek any further restitution or damages from Sharp. No problem, I sign the document and email it back asking for a shipping number. I then get a call from someone who sounded like they spoke with a mouth full of food asking for a credit card number. I had to get them to repeat 3 or 4 times to understand what they were asking. I am baffled by the request because I am not purchasing a new unit. They are replacing it under warranty. Then she said they weren't charging anything. If you're not charging anything why do you want my card#? She would not provide any explanation. I asked for something in writing because is sounded like a hoax.

The letter indicates they want me to buy a new unit direct form them and they will credit the cost when they get the old one back. NONSENSE... Like I am really going to trust them not to change their story again? If I buy a new unit, it will not be a SHARP! If Sharp ultimately wanted a credit card for any reason, why didn't they say that at the first, second, third, or even fourth point of contact? Why is it the story on how to get the warranty replacement changing with every call? I will probably buy a new microwave that is NOT a Sharp just to be done with this nonsense.

This was a unique unit, had cards that you would slip in and out of a slot for various cooking times for many items and even some blank cards you could fill out for your own recipes. A quick in and out with the card and then push start button and the microwave did the rest. There is no way I can see to clean between the inside of the door glass and attached metal screen that prevents microwave leakage. Viewing the unit with the door closed, this microwave unit looks permanently dirty because the door has a space that is unreachable and covered with steam and tiny food particle deposits. I have never had this occur with other microwaves. 2) Like all newer microwaves, the 'key pad' buttons one uses to input time and power settings is flat......but these 'buttons' are harder to push than they should be. 3) The audible signal that tells you cooking is finished is Obnoxiously Loud......and there is no way to turn down the sound level. I purchased a Sharp microwave R530ES, on January 26, 2013 replacing an Amana microwave that was over 20 years old and still working. I paid just under $300. A few days ago I was heating a cup of water in a glass measuring cup. The oven was operating less than ten seconds when there was a loud popping sound and smoke. The room filled with the smell of burned wires/electronics. I phoned Sharp to report the incident and was given a case number. I was informed the appliance had a one year warranty. They denied they had any issues with their microwaves.

Before placing the call I searched online and found a number of complaints similar to mine. I mentioned this to Sharp and they asked if I found it on the Sharp website. I said no and was informed that since it wasn't on their website it was not a legitimate issue. Am I supposed to believe if there were issues with their microwaves they would advertise it on their website? I am extremely upset with Sharp. I am disabled and cannot load a microwave into my vehicle nor can I get it into the house and lift it onto the counter. I thought Sharp was a reputable company but it appears they are a failure in either design or manufacturing or perhaps both. I have to throw out a microwave that looks brand new. I will never own a Sharp product again.

Sharp mod# R-209HK makes humming grinding noise but does not heat. Would like to know how to fix it; if DIY. I paid $20 at a garage sale 4 yrs ago. Only problem was the door latch had to be pushed down from the top to open. It has been a great unit. It started a loud groaning noise, light flickered, and stayed on but no heating. Is there a cheap fix? Sincerely a great unit.

Model R-651ZM - This is our 2nd Sharp Microwave. We've had this about two months and bought it from SAM’s Club. The first one lasted about 4 months, the second last about 2 months. It started making a loud overdrive kinda sound for about a day now and just stopped working. Back to SAM’s Club tomorrow to exchange. They said previous that they hadn't heard of any problems with Sharp, but I've had two of them go out, and it's not my wiring in the house. I have a dedicated circuit for my microwave. I hope this helps.

Landlord purchased a new sharp carousel when we moved in April 2014. Tonight I heated soup. Then two hours later reheated 1/2 a chicken breast. Loud humming and flashes started. It was in a plastic dish. We tested with nothing in it, shooting flames from the interior right side where the cover for the waves as that cover is now brown. I am clearly afraid this will catch the kitchen on fire.

My Sharp R 270 has just started to smoke and smell of burning wire. Recently, I noticed that the area below the turntable was getting badly stained and difficult to clean. Now I can see that a hole seems to have been eroded in the side wall, near the top on the vent side. This is dangerous as if something had been put on to cook and left unattended for a few minutes I assume it could have caught fire; and the kitchen with it. This microwave is about 3 years old and only used a few times a day, mainly just for warming up coffee! Its replacement won't be from Sharp.

Sharp R-270SLM - I purchased my new sharp microwave less than a year ago and I thought at £50, for a sharp reputable brand and its quality was a bargain. So I purchased one thinking this would be a worthwhile investment. In the first few uses, I noticed that steam would not come from the air vent but would buildup in the compartment inside whilst I was cooking. Then four months after the purchase, I noticed what looked like a brown mark on the outer rim where the door closes too. Then, brown marks started to appear under the turntable and at the rear corners of the microwave. I have now contacted the customer services to see what they are willing to do...

Sharp Microwave Model Kb6525P - I was cutting up a chicken in a foil pan on my counter top. I accidentally cut a hole in the foil pan and the juice and grease leaked out onto the counter top down the side and into the Microwave. The oil and juice actually seeped into the front component and into the drawer as well as between the two glass front panels. The microwave drawer would not work after that and then the whole thing quit. Upon inspection by the service tech, he found that the plastic tabs holding the front panel had disintegrated. He also found that the electrical cord had not been sealed in properly and if the liquid had gotten in there, there would have been an electrocution of the microwave and probably me.

This Micro was only 4 months old. After 2 1/2 weeks, Sharp has not given me a decision on what they will do. This product is an accident waiting to happen and is a total piece of Junk. If the drawer and components are not sealed what keeps the microwaves from escaping. Read all the rest of the bad reviews before you buy, they are all true, including the Customer Service.

THESE MICROWAVES NEED TO BE RECALLED!!!! THEY ARE DANGEROUS AND ARE GOING TO SERIOUSLY HARM OR KILL SOMEBODY. My last and present microwave had an issue with condensation building up inside. Next comes the rust, and then the interior starts to change color and bubbles up. Today I was cooking a frozen casserole for only 4 minutes. I got a whiff of a very foul burnt smell. I quickly opened the microwave door and the inner plastic portion of the door had melted and stuck to the front lower edge of the microwave. Now the door won't close and you can't use it anymore because the melting of the plastic left a hole on the front of the door. I have never seen anything like this before in my life. I have been using microwave ovens for 40 years and never encountered anything like this before. My whole apartment smells awful and my sinuses and eyes are on fire. Did I get radiation poisoning? I am considering going to the hospital now. MANUFACTURERS OF SHARP SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED!!!!!!

I just got off the phone again with Sharp Customer Service concerning the third microwave I purchased of this same model that has become defective in less than 14 months - the first two happened in under a year and the third (which was a replacement that I had to pay a pro-rated amount for) quit working in 14 months. The first two had serious problems with water building up in the microwave and on the window, and then the inside base paint began to bubble, wear off and the metal rusted. I started with a purchase of two and gave one to my daughter. The one I gave to her quit working in about 8 months, but because my husband had just passed away she didn't want to burden me with another problem so I didn't find out until I had the problems with mine three months later.

Both of these units also seem to have heating problems - food did not cook as quickly as it should. My daughter had already discarded her microwave so I couldn't return it for a replacement, but I did contact them about mine and it took three months to get a resolution of sorts. I couldn't find my receipt because of the confusion of a fast necessary move to another home, so they told me that I would have to pay $75.00 to get a replacement, after I had to take it to a "repair" shop, wait for it to be evaluated, and then possibly get a new one. I paid the money and had to go to the "repair" shop to pick up the replacement - that was in May of 2012.

The new microwave seemed fine - no excess water problems and heating seemed acceptable. However on 7-21-13 the unit just quit working right in the middle of heating some food. The clock and timer work, but the unit will not heat or turn - nothing - not even any sound. I contacted Sharp and even though it had been 14 months I felt that I was justified in asking for another replacement microwave, and not the same model number because of the consistent problems I had experienced with the prior three. Their response was a definitive "no" because I was REQUIRED to sign a letter releasing them of responsibility in order to get the unit they sent to me as the replacement for the second defective one.

I am going to write a letter to the corporate office to try to get some resolution to this problem, but based on the conversations I had with the customer service representatives I don't expect the corporate head of customer relations to care either. I will write the follow-up on this site after I receive their response.

Sharp scheduled an in-home service call, which ended up being a take the unit away call and left me without a microwave for weeks on end. They still haven't decided if they are going to repair the disgusting smelling burned plastic unit or give me a new one. Stay way form this unit if you value the safety of your family!

Sharp Microwave r-309yv - I bought this microwave to replace one of another brand that burned up. Now I have this one for about two months and it seems the same thing is happening again. It stops running. At first I thought it was the outlet, so I checked that by plugging a lamp and the lamp worked. So I plugged in the microwave and it starts working again. A few weeks later, it stopped again. This time when I moved it to check the plug, I noticed that the bottom right hand side was very hot on the bottom. It stayed hot on the bottom for some time, even though it was unplugged. It has to be shorting out and burning bit by bit. At least I caught this before it smoked up my kitchen like the last one I had. If your microwave stops running, check the right hand side on the bottom. It should not be hot there.

Health hazard: I have a Sharp R320B microwave that went bonkers. It was running on a 2-step cooking setting (meaning, 2 timed cooking at different power levels). On the last sequence, the microwave stopped for a few seconds/minutes then continued in cycles. Then it stopped. When I opened the door, the microwave turned on. I quickly closed the door and tested other settings (such as running at set minutes on full power). Same problem of gremlin microwave turning on with the door open, about which the Sharp's own manual warns that it exposes the user to harmful energy. Also, I unplugged microwave for a while on thought it might reset the microwave. After plugging it back into the outlet, I opened the door to test again and the microwave immediately turned on with the door open.

This is an old microwave, and I've been planning on replacing the microwave anyway. But as an FYI to others and for file on record, I submitted this warning. Other than the exposure of microwave radiation from the malfunction, I did love the programming features which mostly were convenient and actually used by me.

After the first year, the inside of my Sharp Carousel microwave started rusting and the paint flaking. Each use would cause flakes of paint to loosen and fall onto the food. Since I couldn't find out if the paint was lead based and since the kids weren't always conscientious about covering their food, I had to retire the microwave from use. I eventually purchased another brand of microwave, but discovered how difficult it is to find out if the Chinese manufacturer is using lead based paint.

The noise was so loud when it popped. The inside was melted and black. I am disabled and don't have money to go out and buy a nice microwave to replace the one that caught on fire. I have gone to websites where others have had the same problem I have with the same type microwave. There should be a recall on these microwaves before someone's house burns down.

In 1996 I purchased my dream home on the water in sunny south Florida. It took me seven years of savings to finally be able to create, pay for and install my dream kitchen. After all the cabinets were custom made, I spent weeks and months seeking out the best appliances for my kitchen for the best price.
I was originally seeking a Wolf or Viking range, but I was turned on to the Dcor appliance through a gentleman by the name of Van Weiss at Ajax Philadelphia Inc. He sold me a 30 inch Dcor Preference gas range (PGR30S-LP) along with a Sharp Microwave(R1754) that is installed above the range. (Copies of invoice included.) I had nothing but challenges with the microwave. The entire operating system was an LDS unit. Living in Florida, we have lot's of storms. Each time a storm would come and power would go off, or when we experienced brown outs in heavy summer heat, (we had the best surge protector on these appliances that you can buy) the LDS unit would go out and we were unable to use the microwave. During the warranty period, they kept sending a service company to replace the LDS unit. I knew the warranty would run out and I would then be in trouble with this unit. I wrote to Sharp and called to managers etc, then they finally replaced that microwave with another one. A Sharp Carousel (R2130JS). I was happy to have the replacement. Immediately, the entire microwave began melting above the stove. None of the lighting on the microwave works anymore inside or out. It is obvious that this should not have been installed above the Dacor Range and was improperly sold to me. In 2006, the pilot mechanism in the Dacor Range went and I had to replace it to the tune of $300.00. The entire front of the range just above the door, where the operating system is has cracked and pieces have literally fallen out of the stove. So now, I have a $40,000 kitchen with appliances that are broken and falling apart with normal use. In August of 2008, I lost my business after 25 years and have fallen into very hard financial times along with many in this country. I simply cannot afford to go out and purchase new appliances. I have included pictures of the mess these appliances are in along with all the paperwork. I cannot believe that at 50 years old, I finally got to the place to buy my dream kitchen with top pf the line appliances and it turned out to be such a nightmare.
