Really liked the Rainbow vacuum and the demo was good, but the basin has a weird odor. I called the service guy. He said it would cost me $50! I was disappointed because I spent over $3,000 on this vacuum!! They couldn't just give me a new one?! I have to admit I did feel pressured because of the "better buy today or it's a lot more" spiel. We did not give them our old vacuum though, which I thought was kinda weird anyway. They were bugging one of my friends to have a demo at their home. I finally had to call them and ask them to stop! We've only had it for 7 months, but it does work good and smell good. But it is a bit cumbersome.

I thought about buying a Rainbow since I had one before. After thinking it over, the following day, we decided to cancel our contract. We sent the cancellation in person to their store. Since then, we still have the Vacuum; nobody has picked it up. It's been well over the 21 days. I haven't heard of anyone keeping the Vacuum after the contract was cancelled. The contract says you can keep it after 21 days if nobody comes to get it. So I still have it, and I just wonder if I will get charged for it if they haven't tried to come get it?

The owner of Aqua Air Solution has refused to return my calls. The General Manager, Dawn **, refuses to pick up these Rainbow vacuums. She has told the BBB that I needed professional help, and she previously texted me and called me a Drama Queen. She told the BBB that I was just upset because my credit card was declined, when the fact is I put this on layaway and made a payment. I told the Rep, Randy **, that I still wasn't sure I would keep these on layaway since my husband hasn't seen the demo or has approved of any type of approval to purchase. I was told the company required a credit card on file for the layaway program. I found out later that the rep, or someone from this company, forged my husband's name to the legal contract and put charges on my credit cards. I was informed they needed additional credit cards because this card given only has a $1,500.00 limit.
The General Manager, in fact, overcharged me by $1,477.80. The cost was $2,914.38, and she charged me $4,392.13. She told the BBB of Nevada that I was just mad because my credit card was declined. She needs to check her records. I haven't been able to get the problem solved. The General Manager also informed the BBB OF NEVADA that I gave my friend her personal cell phone number so my friend could call and belittle and scream at her. I didn't out her cell phone number to anyone. My friend looked up the phone number for Aqua Air Solutions and had to ask for her. She did not belittle or scream at anyone. She just wanted to let Dawn, the GM, aware that she was thinking of working for their company and all, while buying a vacuum through their layaway plan. She just wanted to know if this is the kind of company that would treat customers or new employees the way Dawn had treated me before she would be interested in their company. All of a sudden, the GM, Dawn **, told her to never f----- call her again. She told my friend to go f---- herself and hung up on her.
I have now requested a copy of the contract signed by me, and proof of a signed delivery form showing the date received and signed by someone who lives in my home. This form should have the item number and description of the merchandise that was delivered, with the serial number. The General Manager told the BBB OF NEVADA that she had all the documents to support her claim, but she didn't offer a copy. I am now requesting a copy of her cell phone records because she lied again.
I have attached the copy of the contract that I requested, showing the forged signature. The GM, Dawn **, whited out the forgery before she copied it. I asked her why did she just do that. She said it wasn't a signature; someone just printed my husband's name, so it wasn't really a signature. I had just seen it, and it was a forged signature. Still, even if someone just printed my husband's name on a legal contract where it requests for a buyer's signature, she never gave me a copy of the back side of this contract, where it needs to be signed again to show that I would have agreed to all the terms and conditions. Since my husband never met anyone from this company, this contract should only have my signature only. I need help with this, because the GM just lies.

I was promised free movie tickets for having a demo and never received anything. I gave a list of people they could contact with a little help from me calling them in advance. I was able to get them only one other demo. My husband surprised me because he really liked the machine and was very interested until the price quote. It's over $3,000 and it doesn't look like it would cost that much to make. Their profit is over the top and then some.
There must be another system somewhere in this world that works like that much cheaper. He would have bought one for me if it was affordable. I am disappointed to be under all that pressure to do the demo with promises of Coca Cola or movie tickets and then not receiving anything. I won't recommend any of my friends anymore to even see the demo.

Alert, alert! Buyer alert... If anyone calls you to set up a demo for the Rainbow cleaning system (vacuum), to help out your family member or friend win additional gifts, ask them to call you back and, research the company before you schedule anything with them (In each state, this company uses different names for their company). In Las Vegas, they go by the name of Aqua Air Solutions. They have F rating at the BBB. They will scam you. They will pressure you - pushy manger and unprofessional. This system cost around $150.00 and the mark up is $3500.00. They will give a discount only if you purchase that day and you have to give them your vacuum for a trade-in of $500.00.
I noticed during my research on the Rainbow cleaning solution (vacuum) that the price is different depending on the company. The bad reviews are 77 on just 1 search engine. I wish I would have done this before I let them in my home. I liked the system and I couldn't purchase it that day. Also, my husband hadn't seen it yet. After several calls back and forth, "they won't give up". The manager said I could put in on layaway. I asked the rep to put it on layaway and give him a $50.00 deposit; also my husband needed to see it first. My husband had to work the day the rep was scheduled to come back. He left no number for me to reschedule. The gentleman told me that the company doesn't have business cards because they found it to be a waste of money.
I was in my room taking a nap when he arrived. My daughter said to him we needed to reschedule. He told her that they needed a credit card on file. Feeling pressured again and not going by my instinct, I gave him my credit card number. I told him, "Please do not put any charges on this card because my husband has not seen this machine," and I was under the impression it is on layaway. By the time my daughter walked back out to the living room, the rep had the whole vacuum pulled out of its box and left it there. Wow!! This is how they do layaway. The rep previously told me that we could do this for a side business and just show 30 demos in 30 days and that the company gives you back a check for the cost of the vacuum, minus any taxes.
So my daughter decided to check this out and went to the meeting to learn about showing the demos. I am still under the impression that I was under layaway. The manager comes up to me and says that my credit card will only accept $1500.00 and she would need another card. I was like, "What? My credit card was never to be charged." She told me not to worry and that she would take care of it. I told her that I DID not even authorize or sign anything for them to debit my credit card. She told me that my husband DID. I told her my husband has never met anyone from their company, so how could he sign a contract? I come to find out the rep DID. He forged my husband's signature.
This program to work for them didn't work out for me. They refused to come and pick up the vacuum. They told me I am stuck with that. If I cancel the credit card, they will come after me with a felony. The manager told me to go ahead and hire a lawyer and that I will not win anything. Has anybody had this kind of problem with this company? Does have anyone have any ideas what I should do? Please do research on that company before letting them in your home.

We've had this Rainbow for 6.5 yrs. 2 weeks ago, it stopped then smelled something burning like a plastic. I'm a handyman, DIY guy. My instinct was to check what happened (I disassembled and checked; on that spot by opening/tampering you void the warranty written attach to inside of the vacuum). At that time, I didn't know that there was an 8-year warranty for the motor and the controller. By the time I checked the controller (electronic), I saw a black Metal Oxide Varistor come off from the base of the module which means that the lead melted. This Varistor is one of the surge protectors diverting extra voltage. I re-soldered this Metal Oxide Varistor to the module/controller base and retested; the vacuum started but I saw sparking and when I inspected the metal oxide varistor, it turned out to be cracked/broken. For safety issue, I didn't use this vacuum and emailed Rexair the problem I found, and they told me I voided the warranty because I opened it and tampered with it and asked for my address to direct me to their registered Rainbow office.
Before contacting the registered Rainbow office, I looked around to an electronic supplier but couldn't find the exact type of this varistor; they are just less than a dollar apiece in the web. I went to see their registered Rainbow office - no luck. I ended up buying a new controller. They gave me a "good" deal for $150 Canadian but it might be just a $1-$5 problem with the metal oxide varistor. The technician tried to see what's unusual, offered to clean, replace bearing, filter, etc. I told him, "Mechanically, everything is fine," and said, "I am a technician too," just to stop him. He still insisted on changing the filter.
They are trying to pressure you, selling and telling something about what is going to happen... He was not able to convince me to inspect the inside because I already did. He installed the new CONTROLLER and tested the vacuum and it runs great. Not convinced yet, he compared it to other vacuums. No luck for him to convince me, he insisted on changing the filter. Just to make him happy, I let him change the filter. He threw my old controller to the garbage can. I picked it up and I said, "I need it for my spare." He told me not to take it. I told him, "This is mine and I want to keep it and I paid for the new controller." I insisted on taking it and he said, "I'm not leaving without it." He took the controller from me and removed the electronic part and gave it to me and he took the controller's plastic body.
Why did he throw this to the garbage can? I sense that they will reuse this from this controller. The price in the website is $269 to $299.00. It's just a $1 part, and this controller will work again. It is a very simple problem but if you bring it to the registered Rainbow office, I don't know how much it will cost you if you don't know anything technical about this.
I see the configuration of this vacuum. Given the price, I would understand and accept it if the problem is mechanical but it's not. You're not supposed to change the whole thing. My fault is I voided the warranty in finding the problem. Maybe they don't want you to discover the very simple problem but it will cost you when you open it. It's an almost 3 grand vacuum. Not a chance I'll buy this anymore.

Reading these reviews, at least the bulk of them brings back so many memories of my days in the finance business handling the credit contracts for Rainbows. At that time, they had just raised the price from $800 to $999 and we would finance them for 24 months at 24% interest. It was amazing to me that we used to get contracts in from people who, it turned out, didn't even own carpeting! They were buying them as some sort of air purifiers. That air purifier claim was the only real difference between Rainbow, Kirby and Tri Stars... All were in that same price range and all were sold door to door to people who, for the most part, couldn't afford them.
I got to know the business pretty well. The local Rainbow distributor was making great money. It was the early 1980's and he was making an income well into six digits. The salespeople were mostly a joke... All "management trainees" who would have to sell their first three machines on their own (relatives and friends, of course). They made $50 for the first sale, $100 for the second, $150 for the third and for each new sale and after selling nine, they got a "free" machine to sell. Of course, only a few made it to sale #2. I only knew of one full-time sales guy who ever made it to 10.
The distributor confided to me that his cost for the unit was just over $100, so given the commission of let's say an average of $100, he was making about $700 on each sale. We used to finance 20-30 of them a month and, of course, they also had cash and credit card sales. They had a revolving door in their "training room" and used to hire 8 to 12 people per week... every week... week in and week out. They would "test" everyone when they applied for a position and, amazingly, 100% would qualify as having management potential.
Sounds like some things never really change. I recall that Consumer Reports did a review on vacuums back then and named the JC Penney $79 upright as their best buy. I still wonder how I slept nights knowing what I was doing to those people over those contracts... and having to then collect them.

I bought a Rainbow because I had used one before and thought it was great. This one has never lived up to the expectations. There is no one to call or anywhere to go for help. It's like “we've got your money, good luck”. I have a Dirt Devil that someone gave to me that does ten times the Rainbow does. I don't need an attorney, but I will not buy another one.

On 2 May 2013 (a Thursday), the Rainbow sales rep came to our house to give a demo to my wife and me. She was new (we may have been her first demo), but did an excellent presentation. She was very professional, polite, and energetic. During the presentation, I told her I was not interested at all since I didn’t want anything to do with cleanup/maintenance for any type of purifier/vacuum that required water. But after the 2-hour demo, we ended up signing the contract for a Rainbow E-2 at ~$2,600 (which I thought was way too high for any purifier/vacuum). We used it that night as a purifier and the next day as a vacuum.
We discovered the following issues with it: It makes a very annoying constant whine when the motor is running. It is far too heavy for my wife (back problems) to move around/lift when vacuuming and difficult for me too, which would only get worse as I age. It did not have a swivel hose connection, which caused the hose to twist into a near knot when using it; hose got tangled with the attachment caddie on the vacuum. It collected zero dust in the water when purifying the air. It would become our Master demanding daily water replacement/basin & machine cleaning after nearly every use, and compared to everything we saw in Google reviews, it was way overpriced!
On 4 May (a Saturday), I sent a text to my sales rep informing her to cancel our order and arrange pickup of this machine and attachments. On 6 May (a Monday), within the 3-business day limit per the contract, I sent the required cancellation letter with signed copies of the contract cancellation to My IAQ office listed on the contract. On 8 May, my sales rep said I needed to speak with her supervisor about the cancellation. His name is Jim **. I called and gave him all my reasons for cancelling. He then said I would have to bring in the machine to their home office 50+ miles (100+ miles round trip) from my house. I disagreed with that and he became very agitated and pushy. I then informed him of a line in the purchase documents that stated, “The Seller agrees to pick up items at the Purchaser's residence..."
He then became very rude and was saying how inconvenient it would be for the sales rep to have to travel all that way (lives near their home office) to retrieve the items. He said it was my responsibility to transport the items to the office. However, there is nothing in the contract that states that. I said he did not need to lay a Guilt Trip on me about the sales rep having to come get it. He then called me a jerk!! I told him we were done and the next call from anyone better be to schedule the pickup at my house! I then hung up on him!
During the phone call, he also said we could be liable for a restocking fee up to $500! I informed him I was not told about that at any point. I would definitely not have signed the purchase order if I was aware of that. I also told him it was nowhere in the purchase documents I had. However, I found the last line of the very small print before the signature line on a yellow copy stating, “$500 Restocking fee required.” But the first line of the cancellation statement on both the Pink and Yellow document copies states, “If cancelled within 3 business days, there is no penalty or obligation due to the cancellation.”
Now, I am waiting for anyone to call and schedule a pickup at my house for the items we do not and never will want! Buyer beware!!! Do your homework before even thinking about buying one of these new during a demo at your house. Do like the smart folks in Google and buy a used one if you really want all the hassle of using it for under $500 with all attachments included. Don’t ever put yourself in a position to have to deal with anyone in this company beyond your sales rep! If they give me any more hassle or rude behavior, I am reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and will also contact my lawyer to pursue a lawsuit for their pathetic and abusive customer service.

I have had my vacuum for approximately 8 years. I've been through many carpet cleaners. The motors keep stopping to work. My vacuum system has a broken housing. This is not from abuse. It is just cheap plastic. I had it cleaned professionally by a rep from the company. I paid $120 for this service. A rep came out and said it looked like years of dirt on inside of the system. It was not cleaned at all. They want me to pay approximately $60 for new housing, approximately $60 for new filter (should have been changed prior cleaning) and pay for a new cleaning. This system is a ripoff. They just want me to buy their new system.

My son and daughter-in-law are living in my home temporarily. It's only for a few months and they are leaving in June. They were shown a demo in my home for a friend of theirs. Like most people, it was love at first sight. My D-I-L sort of knew the concept so made sure my husband and I were out of the house during her demo. Of course, they decided to go with the "ride along plan". Sally ** did her demo and assured her that doing one for me in my home would not be an issue. I did a demo for her, in my own home. I got suckered too, as Steve ** was very friendly. As we sat through the 4 hours, I explained that I was interested in doing the ride along plan but most of my friends lived in Lawrenceville and points N/NE of there.
He explained that as a general rule, they like to stay in a 45-mile radius of McDonough but that they had no problems making a few exceptions. He further stated that like him, they would pick a rep that lived closer to those points so it was in a 45-mile radius of where the rep lived. Great! No problem! 8 bookings in 48 hours for two 'luxury' hotels or one hotel, one cruise ship - no problem. I called some friends, had them booked and now came the trouble.
My first potential "sell" or demo, wanted hers over and done with as she is very busy and stays in between her house in L'ville and a house in Dahlonega. She wanted the very next night as she happened to have the time to come down from Dahlonega for the demo, visit a few friends and get back to the mountains. Now, mind you, her permanent residence is in L'ville. She has a cabin in the mountains.
Miraculously, there was a 4-4:30 opening for the very next night so I booked it. The next morning, I checked my email and I had not received confirmation. As my friend was making a special trip from out of town, I wanted to make sure that all was a go. So I called my rep; he did not answer. There are no numbers that I could find on my paperwork for the office. However, my rep said he did the demos and his wife worked in the office and he left her cell phone # as well. So I call Susie. Susie said they were very booked and she wasn't sure if they could "fit them in" which I didn't understand because the time was available. Susie said she would call me back. Susie, sometime later, sent me a very unprofessional text simply stating, "We will not be able to fit you in today," period. No, "I'm sorry for the inconvenience," or "Let's see what we can do to make this happen..." Nothing!
So I texted her back and explained that my couple was coming in from out of town just for the demo, if they could do it the next night (which they had a 4-4:30 opening that day as well). She came back with, "The demo has to be done in their own home." I explained that it was their own home and that they owned the cabin house as well. As my couple were waiting to see if they were going to make the long haul back home, I did not get a response. Over an hour later, I texted Susie to say that I was really sorry to bother her but they really needed an answer so that they could plan their day accordingly. She again simply stated, "No, we can't."
My next step was to email the lady the rep told me about who if I had any questions or concerns, she was the one to contact. After much delay, I was told that L'ville was out of their territory (it is 54 miles, not the 45-mile guideline). Now I had another dilemma and yet more questions. If Lawrenceville was out of territory and my other bookings were further away than that, where did that leave me? Well, 5 days and 3 emails later, I'm still waiting.
Here is where the scam comes into play for me. My rep tells me, "Absolutely, we will have no problem going to those places." I come to find out that they do have a problem; they don't go to those places. But here is the bait and switch. I had signed my contract and my 3 days to terminate that contract were coming fast. Two days in and no return call or email. So I took my contract to the store I signed it and the lady in the office asked me if I had contacted my rep. I told her no, that I was following cancellation procedures per the contract.
She looked at the contract and said, "Yea, we need to go ahead and take care of this because tomorrow is your 3rd day and we are closed tomorrow." That means had I waited to go in on the 3rd business day as stated in my contract, I would have been bound to the contract even though "they" were closed as the 3 days were up. She told me as soon as I left there to contact Steve so that we could make arrangements for him to pick up the equipment (that I was now in love with). I texted Steve explaining what was going on and that I was left with no choice but to terminate the contract because I knew of no one in McDonough and that my demos were too far away even though he had told me it would be no problem. I told him to please let me know that he received my text.
About 20 hours later, I had to send him another text. I had been told so many stories from so many people that I was getting nervous that I was going to be stuck with the contract somehow. He said yes, that he had gotten it and that I had 2 choices, clean the vacuum very well and make the long trip myself to return it or he could come get it for a fee (over $100 but he didn't tell me that, which means he was hoping I would say, "Okay come get it..." and then get stuck with an unforeseen $100 fee). He also stated since my daughter-in-law had already had a demo in my house prior to mine that my demo would be disqualified.
Remember, her rep knew and my rep (same guy) knew that a demo had already taken place in my home, but since I purchased the vacuum it was "okay" but since I had to cancel the contract because I know no one in a 45-mile radius who is married, working, non-biracial, non-gay and high income, and no one to help me resolve my issues or answer my questions, I'm now "disqualified" which means my daughter-in-law now has to find yet another person and sit through yet another 4-hour demo, only to hope that these strict laws and guidelines are met.
These folks need to realize we only know what we are told; if the reps say, "It's okay," and if the reps say, "Yes, we can go there," then we can only assume that it's okay to do another demo or that it's okay to book further away, even though the rules say you can't. They work it to their advantage. They say that it's okay to get the sale; they say it's not okay if they don't. Then they disqualify you! I honestly believe they were waiting me out, hoping my three days would come and go and then they would contact me to say, "No, the other addresses would not work either." Then I'm stuck in my contract. They don't even care enough about the consumer, the ones that make their house and car payments.
I have yet to have anyone from this company call to say, "Let's look at the issues at hand and see if we can resolve them," so that they have a sale and I have a vacuum cleaner. Keep in mind that in less than 60 days, my son and daughter-in-law will no longer live here and since I have seen a demo in the last 5 years... guess what? I can't get another one! Wow!
God forbid if someone's spouse died and they were left a $500,000 life insurance policy, guess what? They can't see a demo; they are no longer married or the lady that owns her own cleaning service, such as myself that would love to have this kind of power for work. I can't understand if someone has the means/credit/wants to do the ride along, what difference does our income, the color of our skin, our choice in marriage or our partners make? This is still America (for now) and we have to jump through hoops so that we can buy your product? No thank you.
But if you look online, you can get a Rainbow for around $1499. That's with shampooer and all attachments. They claim the extras alone are $900. Having read a lot of the complaints, I'm not so sure I want one. I'm scared of the customer service issues given my experience with them thus far. It's a shame because it is a wonderful product and no one to compete with. But because of lies and greed, they do and say and act how they want. I love the product, but because of these facts, I will probably choose to boycott them.

After a home demonstration on a Rainbow vacuum cleaner on February 10, 2013, I purchased the product for $2,700. After using it, I felt it was way too heavy for me. I filled out their "notice of cancellation" form and sent it by certified mail. I received my delivery notice card back and they had signed and dated it. It was received by them within the 3-day cancellation stated on their contract. They had another of their salespersons pick up the once used vacuum on 2-16-2013. I had him sign and date that he had picked it up. It has been a total of 46 days since. I have repeatedly called because their notice of cancellation contract states I will have my money returned in 10 days. Christine **, the seller’s wife, has been giving me the runaround.

We recently allowed a salesman of Rainbow to do an in-home demonstration in our house. The young man came in wearing a hoodie and sneakers. He never introduced himself. He showed us the product and we were impressed, but he said he kept forgetting things in the car, and he would just walk out occasionally. During the whole hour or so he was "demonstrating", he kept checking his phone and texting! Very poor salesman if you ask me. When he finished, he said he needed to call his boss. So he talked to him and we insisted we were not interested. But his boss kept trying harder and harder to get us to buy. He even told the salesman to give us a buyer form to fill out. I felt like we were being tricked into something. Also, the whole time the salesman talked to his boss, he rolled his eyes. He finally left and all we could do was laugh. I would never purchase anything from such an unprofessional company.

Like a twit, I bought another Rainbow this past summer (2012) - this would be the third one. After the second one, I was pretty much annoyed with the Rainbow, constantly something was breaking on it; nickel and dime is all it did. So when I got suckered into another Rainbow demonstration, I didn't go with my gut instinct and say no to the Rainbow. Well here it is, February of 2013 and guess what, yep, the Rainbow has already broken. Now it is simply a broken wheel on the power head, a wheel that will not stay on, and a service center that is over 40 miles away. If the unit were an older unit, then I may be a bit less annoyed by this broken wheel but since the unit is practically new, I am pretty PO'd. Add to that the repeated attempts to get someone on the phone to see about how to get it fixed. Seems they are quick to sell you one but not so quick to respond when your product breaks. If a Rainbow salesperson comes to your door, don't open it, save your cash and your sanity.

I've been down this road.) So he shows up at 4:30 and by the time it is all said and done, I have the paperwork filled out and he's leaving my home at 8:50pm. Keep in mind, this salesman is actually super nice. In the 4 hours plus he is here, he demonstrates his vacuum. I'm impressed. It uses water; I like that. The vacuum head gets into every nook and cranny that there is! I love this thing. Here is what I did not like. The sales pitch is insane. I finally get approved for $1,862 plus my $800 trade in for my Kirby Sentria at 20.8% interest for 48 months! So that's an insane amount of money for the vacuum.
I decided to start doing my homework after he left. eBay has this thing with every attachment included for $1599.00 + $50 for shipping, all parts included. While my salesman was here, I asked some extremely important questions about selling. I'm very interested in how much commission he's making here. He told me I can get the shampooer and mop for free if I list 10 friends and qualify or disqualify them. We qualified a few, not many. They only do married, high income, non-renting persons. So, we are continuing on the fact that I'm going to get this thing free. Sale one in 20 demos and then 1 more in 20 days after that, then pay taxes and then it's mine all mine. So, I called him back up after he left and told him I like it; I don't love it. So he came back to get it. I asked him how much commission he makes. He said it's $500-$700. Can you believe you are paying that much of your hard earned money just for someone to sell this thing to you in your own home? Sorry, there has to be a better way.
I refuse to pay someone that much of my money. Had he said $100-$150, I might have been okay with that. But a huge chunk of the purchase price, going in his pocket, I think not. I never lied to him. After finding it on eBay for $1,599, I felt like someone punched me in the gut! At that point, I no longer loved it. It made me sick. I felt I had been taken advantage of. I hope this helps anyone that plans on buying one of these, or just bought one. You have 72 hours to cancel the contract. Read the pink sheet you signed, mail it to the address on there with your signature at the bottom, if the salesperson is not so nice. If your salesperson is nice and respectful, they will take it back, like mine was. I didn't have a bad overall experience. I just like to hang on to our money. (Sorry, I know I skipped around some.) Happy buying, I hope.

My husband and I had someone come do a demo at our house so that my sister could get extra attachments for her Rainbow that she had just purchased. During the demo, the girl acted as if she didn't have a clue; she left parts at the office, didn't bring all she was supposed to. Then, I find out that she told my sister to lie and tell us it was an hour. It ended up being almost four hours and finally, my husband told her he was hungry, we had to go eat and she had to go. He asked her to give us the proper paperwork and fill it out so we could keep the vacuum. We planned to demo it to some of our friends and get ours for free.
Little did we know that they go through your list and disqualify most everyone because either they rent, lease, are too old, too young, single, divorced, etc. My best friend who is a judge makes more than $150,000 a year and because she had recently divorced, they would not demo the product to her and told me I would have to replace her. I had them do a demo for my parents. They decided to buy a slightly used model instead of the new one. So, he promised to bring it back the next day.
When he called my mom, he told her that my dad was 9 months too old to qualify because he has just turned 61. He then told her they could do it in her name only, but she would have to lie to the bank and tell them she made approximately $1,000 a month more in retirement than she does. She said absolutely not, cancel my purchase. They did. Now they called and said since we were such hard people to work with, they want their machine back.
I am now worried that we will give it back and they will continue to bill us. Not only this, but they called my husband and I three times in one day and then had the nerve to just stop by our house on a Saturday night as we were going out for the evening and expected us to chat and either give them the machine or write them a check. I was shocked and decided to start looking for some other means of assurance. I found these complaints and now I am even more worried that I will be paying $2,500 even if I give the thing back. Please be sure to read everything and double check your information. It's bad when a company will ask you to lie to be qualified, yet they disqualify everyone you demo because of stupid insane reasons.

Hubby and I were watching TV last night when someone rang our doorbell. It was dark outside, after 6:00 pm, so we assumed it was our neighbor. Instead, it was a woman who spoke very fast saying Rainbow wanted to open a shop nearby but had to have an 85% positive rating before they could do that. She'd give us an air purifier for free if we would help them out. Hubby said OK, and the woman went to get another Rainmate (the one she had given him had a part missing). She said the new one would be in a big box but not to worry, the product was much smaller than the box indicated. When she came back with the Rainmate, she had Doug in tow, and she thanked us again for helping them out.
I'm still not certain how Doug got in the door, but we weren't concerned yet. He started to unpack a box, so Hubby asked him what he was doing. Doug said he was going to show us how the system worked. We're still thinking he's going to show us how the Rainmate worked, as unnecessary as that seemed to be (add water, plug it in, turn it on). No, he wasn't talking about the Rainmate; he was talking about the Rainbow System. He demoed it, used some of the same tactics others have complained about, and seemed ready to go on for quite some time. I put an end to that by asking what this was going to cost us.
Long story short, the price started at over $3,400 but eventually got down to $2,500, which included a $300 "trade-in" on my Kirby. Yeah, right! I told him no way. I also told him why I wouldn't buy the "system" if I was in a store comparing it to other vacuums. Hubby and I did not appreciate the deception used to get into our home and the time the demo took away from our time together. We have precious little in the evenings and we really don't appreciate it being stolen from us. I honestly thought Hubby was going to get rude and kick Doug out, but he didn't.
I guess they didn't really need an "85% positive rating" because we weren't asked to give a rating or complete a survey or anything. Hubby asked for a business card, and Doug said his boss doesn't use them anymore because he's wasted too much money on them. We were given no literature or contact information. That seems suspicious to us. After Doug left, Hubby reminded me that there is a sign clearly stating, "No soliciting" in our development. Had we realized this would be a solicitation, we would have ended it immediately and told them in no uncertain terms to leave the area immediately before security arrived. I don't put up with deceptive sales practices in stores. Why should I do so in my own home?

I got a Rainbow Demonstration in my home in October of 2011. I decided after a month or two that I could easily sell these machines, heck they sell themselves, right? Wrong! They told me to come in for training and they would also come to my house to train me. I signed up to do 30 demonstrations in 90 days. You don't have to sell one, of course you will, but you didn't have to, you would still get yours for free. Just do the demos in 90 days and you get your machine for free. Yeah, what a joke!
I signed the contract and did the demonstrations. What they don't tell you is, you sign up for a no-interest-in-90-days loan through Prime Acceptance Corporation in Chicago, IL. Why out of state? Because WI state law does not allow such type of transactions (that is how the 3 people I signed up under me got out of the contract and got all of their money back). Well, I completed the demonstrations and sold 8 units! What happened to me, was that Chris ** never paid off my loan. His boss, Sam **, bothered him to pay for it, but either way I am stuck paying the loan, it has hurt my credit score because I assumed he would take care of his part of the contract. Their office is out of Madison, WI.
If you hear of Healthy Homes, or any other fancy name for Rainbow machines out of Madison, WI (or Milwaukee, WI), I am here to warn you. If it has anything to do with Chris ** or Sam **, you are going to get screwed out of about $3,000 and then some! They don't return your calls. Their offices close and re-open under different little changes to the name in WI. Watch and be careful. Don't believe the demonstration in so many days gets you a free machine, or wait their one excuse was you get to "sell" your machine. That's how you pay for your loan. Why would you sell it? That's why you are doing the demonstrations. It doesn't make any sense and it's just a scam to make a buck, a lot of bucks in reality. The machine is worth less than $1,000! Yet they sell it for $3,000! It's unreal! Don't get scammed in WI on Rainbow machines!

I purchased my Rainbow brand new vacuum in 2005. Shortly before Labor Day, my Rainbow vacuum started making strange noises and giving off a weird odor. Although it was seven years old to me, it was "like new" and I really liked the vacuum. I contacted Rexair for a local service company that would service my vacuum (this was the first time it needed service). First, they gave me a gentleman (who they later discovered does not service their own vacuums) and then five days later, they gave me Big Dreams in New Hartford.
"Marla will take care of you." She sure did. Two shipments to New Hartford and $400 later and the vacuum sits in my living room smoking and not working. It worked less than 1-1/2 hours after the first time Big Dreams had the the vacuum and less than 10 minutes the second time. "The problem is in the canister of the vacuum." When I contacted Rexair, they want me to pay the shipment back to "Marla" for the third time. Let me add that her demeanor and comments were extremely unprofessional (blaming the issue on the shipper, etc).
The proof is in my pictures and witnesses. And how much more do I need to spend to get absolutely nowhere? I recently took the vacuum to a reputable dealer (over a 1/2 century in the vacuum business) who says this is the second time in less than a month he has received a Rainbow vacuum with the same complaint. If I took the vacuum to just anyone, I could see their side. But when their own people can't fix it and are ripping off the public, they need to know. Up until now, I liked everything about the vacuum but I certainly won't be buying another one when the manufacturer won't stand behind their product. And I should add that their business etiquette was far from professional.

I had a very pleasant salesman come demo the system after we filled out a card for a free air purifier at a local home show. I have worked at in-home sales before, so I knew what to expect. I have always liked the concept of the water filtration, and of course, the demo was amazing as was the price ($2,500). But we could have it tonight for $1,950.00 with my current vacuum as a required trade in. If I had money to burn, I would have bought it, as it would clean far better than my other machines. My wife's main objection, like many others I have read, is the weight and we have a three level house.
This salesman was great; he offered ideas on how to lighten it up – like move it in sections, not real practical, but at least a suggestion; and his best move was calling his boss, which is always part of the sales pitch when they are losing ground; and his boss offered us an additional slightly used model free, so we could have one on two separate levels. My wife's comment was, "But we have three..." No, he didn't offer a third. I would have been surprised at being offered a second one except for the fact that our salesman opened his presentation by telling us about selling for Rainbow, the eight trips he had earned in the last two years, and all the perks and incentives Rainbow offers. All that did for me was scream huge profit margins built into these machines. So we stood firm and the salesman was disappointed. It is a big investment in time and effort for them to do these demos (part of why the profit margin has to be so high). He remained polite and professional.
We did get the air purifier and we gave him some friends’ names in the hope of further perks, not that I expect any of them to really sit through a demo. If you have to buy only new stuff, keep saying no till you beat them down to a deal you feel great about. So I said I love my Rainbow, right? Three days after this, I had a lovely used D4C model (current model is "E" series) on its way to me, thanks to eBay, for $195.00. No warranty or service available from Rainbow, of course, so what? You can buy used Rainbows from $15 to $2,000, and all the parts are available online or you can have an independent repairman service them. So do your homework and save yourselves a boatload of money on a great vacuum. This goes for any in-home sale product like my great Kirby G4 vacuum I bought for $120 a few years ago.

In 2000, my Rainbow had to start cleaning up after my grandchildren up to August 2012, total of 11 grandchildren. I love my Rainbow. I bought a Rainbow vacuum years ago and it quit working within about two years. I called the company several times to try to get the vacuum serviced. All I got was the runaround and once I realized I wasn't going to get anyone to help me, I put it in the closet and bought a different vacuum cleaner. I eventually threw the darn thing away. It was just as well because it was too heavy to pick up, let alone drag up the stairs. The water canister was messy to empty. The motor was extremely loud and it was very expensive! A few years ago, a friend of mine became a sales trainee for Rainbow and asked if she could demonstrate the vacuum and the air purifier to me. I told her I would sit through another demonstration only if she told the sales rep that came with her that I would not be buying the vacuum, but would be interested in the purifier.
Throughout the demonstration, the sales rep kept hounding me about buying another vacuum. I reminded him what happened with my previous purchase and that I wasn't interested. He was persistent and rude. I bought the air purifier and paid for three fragrances to use in it. The sales rep only had two fragrances with him but promised that once he got back to the office, he'd put the third fragrance in the mail. I never received it even though I called twice to remind him about it. Well, the air purifier has since quit working properly. I've spent numerous hours trying to fix it myself. Needless to say, I won't be buying anymore products Rainbow has to offer!

Bad service: We spent $2,525 on a Rainbow vacuum. The man that sold us the vacuum was a very lazy salesman. My daughter-in-law did most of the work for him. She sold us the vacuum, not him. He had promised her a hundred dollars if she could sell a vacuum for him, and she did. She did not get the money or her air purifier as she was promised. It was my understanding that it can be used as an air purifier as well as a vacuum. As for an air purifier, the vacuum sucks unless you have it on high. You can’t hear a thing over the noise from the vacuum. On low, it does not work.
He also promised us three things as part of our purchase: Fresh air sent solution, clean floor, and a bottle of eucalyptus fragrance. We bought the vacuum on 04/24/12 and have not received anything as of 08/12/12. I have talked to his boss Sedric; and he said he would get our things for us, but has not done so. That was a week ago and still not a thing from them. I have called two phone numbers for management and all I get is an answering machine. We would have not bought this vacuum if we knew we were going to have this many issues. The vacuum works great on floors, but we mainly wanted it also for an air purifier due to my health. I would not recommend this machine to family or friends ever. The service is the worst I’ve seen in a long, long time. I wish that people would not take advantage of hardworking people and their hard-earned money, all $2,525 of it.

They packed up their stuff and then took the small purifier that they had given me. These people wasted my time and then took back what they had given me because I couldn’t afford the large expensive item. Never again am I going to let a slimy lying salesperson in my door, especially if they are selling Rainbow products! These people are not to be trusted! I sold Rainbows door-to-door for some 23 plus years. And over all, day after day and being in so many homes, nothing at all works as good as a Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner. That's the bottom line. But I have to tell you that the older Rainbows from about 1980 to 1996 were the best vacuums ever made to this date. I have used my vacuum for some 21 years with no problems at all. The newer models I have not owned, but they turn a lot higher rpm. Is that more short-term wear on the machine? Probably. But they are made cheesier, weak, junk, cheap. They were trying to make too much money.
New sales people are all trained and taught that the Rainbow is an air purifier (drilled into their head). I will tell you that it is a vacuum that traps almost all dust and dirt in water. Remember you can't stomp dirt out of a mud puddle. Wet fly can’t fly and dry fly can’t dust. But wet fly can dust! There will be a quiz later. Still, it's the best concept of all times out there. Oh, they have made the vacuum heavier, lighter, shinier, vortexes, upright and pull-type (tank). They all just don't work. Bags and Vortex? I just love my Rainbow and if you have one, you should too. Clean the separator and grease the nut once in a while. You dump that stuff out of your house; don’t put it back in the closet. Does that make sense? As for cleaning the air, I never have used it for that! Just vacuum more, slow and easy.
Just look at what you are really getting out of your carpets with every use. As for a poor, weak, maybe lazy, desperate salesman that is not trained well at all, well they are in the roofing, siding, carpentry, landscaping, windows, just about every type of business out there! I will and always defend the Rainbow Vacuum, period, end of story. It is the best. And you saw it when you bought it. I just wish I would have sold you yours. As I loved selling Rainbows door-to-door and I was the best. No one can sell a Rainbow like me, no one. I am not a con man. Follow up is where it is at. A lot more sales but the distributors don’t know any better nor do they teach this either. I would still be doing to this day except for the guy that took over Montana right above me, and he moved in to my town on top of me, opened an office, and did not tell me for over 4 months! Trash, just trash.
Most of all, the upper echelon in most of these vacuum companies are just old, who-knows-who in the business, the has-been’s, for real. And they just overpriced the distributor cost for their profit and they in turn raise the cost to both sales people and the consumer as well. Sad. Just remember, "Selling is Capitalism in its rawest form." You negotiate your deal in your home! $2,600 nuts, just nuts. Dirty pot-lickers, I tell you. I sold them for $1,200 and never had a problem selling them at all, ever. Hey, if you have buyer’s remorse, that is one thing and some people do. But if you just missed a good deal on a shotgun, canoe, snow mobile or a camper, and you are blaming it on your wife for buying one of the top 10 best tools in the world for your home, you are a redneck.
And as for this air purifier or water purifier free thing - a joke. I never did it in 1993 and I never would. They just don’t get delivered to the customers. You are just being greedy. Free, right. Buy the Rainbow, refer for some friends for the shampooer and be happy. Quit complaining and use the heck out of it. Don’t store it on water. Keep the separator as clean as your teeth and enjoy it as it is the best. It’s just common sense. Oh, yes and some people just don’t take care of anything they own. For those people, everything is junk, cheap made, and they are just never happy people. Get one and use it. Be happy.

Any time I use mine in a house that has used standard vacuums, they are amazed at the amount of dirt I get from their carpet. When we took up our carpet recently, there was hardly any sand under it and we live in a rural area surrounded by dirt and grass, not pavement and concrete. This past week, the bearing in the power bar motor went out and the representative repaired it quickly and relatively inexpensively, while my husband waited. He is making a really good deal on the newest model and we are considering buying. He will recondition the old one for free and it will go to one of our children. I called them and was told they couldn't find a problem. I even told them where the problem seemed to be coming from.
My little stairs attachment has quit. It will come on for a few seconds and then quit. I can't get my stairs done. I wiggle and make sure it is connected, but that won't get it going. I miss my old vacuums that they took as trade in because they always worked. I am so disgusted with this machine and your company, who doesn't seem to care. I called the main number and spoke to a lady that asked me, you didn't get the message that the interview needed to be here in Lake Dallas? Ummm No, there was no phone call or message. I checked my voice mail and call logs. We set up another interview for the following day. I get there and they tell you about their company and how wonderful it is and you speak to people that have been there for 20 years and blah blah. I get the call that evening that I had gotten the job. But instead of my hometown, I had to drive to Lake Dallas for training. No problem.
After a couple of days of training, a half a tank gas along with $8.00 a day in toll fees. I thought, this company hasn't asked for my DL#, SS#, nothing. It's Friday evening and the end of our training session and they wanted us to spend our entire weekend soliciting my friends and family to purchase this vacuum. What is sad about the entire thing is, there was another lady in my training class that had just been served an eviction notice and she was spending every dime she could come up with to get to this class only to find out she was getting paid nothing! Thank goodness I had not stopped my unemployment. Imagine the mess, and I am a single mother with two children to support.
The product itself seems amazing and honestly if I had not had to deal with such shysters like this. I would have definitely wanted to purchase one. After seeing the way they treat people. I will never purchase one nor will I ever recommend them to any of my friends or family.
Also, they told us all we had the chance to get the free system or the small room humidifier as well, as long as I gave them 10 of my family and friends names and numbers to harass! I got my list together and then there was something else that needed to be done. They had no intention on giving us the free system like they said they would in class. These are nasty people. We would only have to show 21 demos in a very short period of time. Didn't sound that bad so we drove 50 miles (we live in Morganton, NC) to Gastonia to open house where other folks wanted to get a free unit. We had to give the salesman a $20 check to that I guess to make sure we would show up. We meet our salesman and he got us in the room. Yes, there were many people there.
We listened to the presentation but money was not as easy as it was presented. To see 21 couples married and own their homes to sell 3 units and get one free. OK, yeah. Well, we didn't get excited and didn't want to do this. The presentation was over and the speaker talked us into it and didn’t want to even give us our $20 check. I guess they need it worse than we did. They will not let you go and will do everything they can to talk you into selling for them to make couple hundred dollars per unit. But when you factor the millions of satisfied customers that, like myself, have own not one but two Rainbows (the first one still works in my garage after 22 years), it is hard to give too much credit to a few bad outcomes. It would be interesting to get all the facts for each of these "dissatisfied" Rainbow owners before giving total credit to their one-sided accounts.
I have never had anything but positive feedback from everyone that I have recommended the Rainbow to and has bought it. We become fanatical fans of the benefits of this very complete and smart, 21st century state-of-the-art cleaning system. Nothing compares. Nothing even comes close. And my family has the proof in the hundreds if not thousands of dollars that we did not spend on allergy doctors for our three children living in Central Texas, the home of allergy nation. Yes, it is pricey but so is a 3D 60" screen TV and it doesn't do nearly as much for the well being of my family as the Rainbow System does. You do get what you pay for.

I had a young man come to my house because a friend was trying to earn a Rainmate so I watched his hour demonstration and asked a lot of questions because they have changed. Never did I act like I was going to buy and he just showed me and asked if I would like to own a Rainbow, I told him I need to think about it he just started cleaning the machine and I told him I would take it I wrote a check. They are a little more than the last one but then again everything is! I love my Rainbow it does everything and it does everything phenomenal! I would never take, ask or buy a regular vacuum!

My rating is of the distributor, not the Rainbow. It has been a while but I did work for Rainbow in Ardmore, OK. My mom did my demo and I decided since I could not afford one, I would work to get mine for free. My mom had done it with no issue for the Durant, OK store. I was to do 20 demos and would receive mine at no charge. I did this and sold a couple. The distributor had just taken over the store for her mom and was a young girl. I finished my last demo and she kept running me around because the last one cancelled the purchase (you have 3 days to do so) and I hadn't made her enough money.
I was not selling as many as others did. I did my demos even driving up to an hour one way just to do a lot of them. I was never told I had to sell a certain number to get mine. The company is built on door to door sellers who all get this deal. I just wonder how many have been ** over as I was. I wish now that I had sued them just for the principle of the deal. Shortly after I finished and was trying to get her to own up to Rainbow's end of the bargain, her store was closed.
The vacuum is amazing. If you do not believe, then most likely you got a really bad demo and were not shown how to use the machine properly.

I like my Rainbow Sweeper but I will never buy or recommend one ever again. I will also advise when you have a salesperson come to your house record the sales pitch he gives you so that you will not get taken! Double check your contract and how they write it! Don't be a trusting person. The local store here in Parkersburg, WV has poor customer service. We have called two times and have gotten no response back. All we get is the runaround. They don't care.

My wife and I had a demo by a nice woman in our home, the Rainbow was very impressive and we almost purchased one. We decided to think on it considering that it was a major purchase, adding up to almost $3000. That night, I had to sleep in the spare room. I told my wife that she must not have cleaned our rugs real well.
That very next morning, Beatrice took out her $150 vacuum we purchased at the local Target store and I'll be a goat's granddaddy if that old thing didn't pick up nastier than that bulky $3000 piece of Rainbow junk. I had to buy Beatrice half dozen roses to apologize. I wouldn’t spend that kind of money on one of them. Their Rainbow, if I was any of you fellers, just head on down to your local Target store and pick yourself up one of them snazzy purple suckers and call them good.

I have had 2 Rainbow Vacuums. I love them. I have tried others but nothing comes close to the deep cleaning it does and the whole room smells better. You can see the clean carpet just by looking. For me. it seems like the people on this page has got some sorry sales people. I am so very sorry because there is no product that comes close to these vacuums. Nothing. I will not waste my money on anything else.
I am going to keep my latest Rainbow to give to my daughter as soon as I service through my sales person to make sure everything runs great for her. She already borrows the shampoo part and the regular vac, so she might as well keep it. I can't believe anyone would not like it. I love it! It is worth every penny!

We initially bought a Rainbow vacuum from Mr. Jones on 11/22/2011. We paid the sales tax on the vacuum that night in the amount of $127. Shortly after the salesman left, we decided we did not want to vacuum, so we called him right away to return it. I packaged up the vacuum right away and he said he would pick it up on Monday. Over the weekend, I went to pull my own vacuum out and discovered it was gone. The salesman took it after he used it for a demonstration, which I did not know. I assumed my husband put it away. I looked on the bill and there was nothing written in the "trade" column, and he never talked to us about trading in our vacuum.
So when we called, we told him to bring our vacuum back. The salesman did not come on Monday so my husband called later and the salesman said, "I will bring your piece of *** vacuum." He eventually did bring our vacuum back and picked up his. When he was getting his vacuum he was slamming the box around when he was making sure everything was there and he just walked out leaving my door wide open and he didn't say a word, except that we would get our refund for the $127 within the next 7-10 days. It is now 12/21/2011 and we still have not received our refund, even though he has told us several times he has mailed it. He also has said three times now that he will drop the money off at our house, but he continues to make up excuses why he couldn't make it to our house.
To add on to my original complaint. The salesman had said his wife or son would be mailing the refund. The salesman texted my husband, saying "Son, let me tell you something, you ***, I hate people that cancel on me then you keep tell me my wife ***, don't talk or call me any more. I'm busy. My son said he sent it; you will get your ** lil 127 That ** to me ill make sure of it, my wife calls me I'll have her take it to your house. I'm n a demo. I'll call you when I get out; this people want a clean house for their babies to play in."
I want my $127.00 of course and I want this salesman to be fired so he doesn't not tarnish the reputable name of Rainbow.

I bought my Rainbow machine back in 2004 and love it, wouldn't trade it in for anything else. I use it for everything: bare floors, carpet, dusting, vacuuming my furniture and refreshing my rooms. I love it so much that I signed up to be a part-time sales representative for Rainbow. The first time I heard about it was at home show in Richmond, Virginia where a guy was giving away the Rainmate air freshener for free with a demonstration. When he told me the price, I told them I couldn't afford it but he'll worked it out with a credit agency.
They made the payments small enough for me to afford. I think the amount of the machine is well worth it. I even talked my mom into trading in her Kirby. She even sees the difference in her floors. I'm sorry if there are some people who didn't have the great experience with their representatives, but if I can help in anyway, I will try because I know customer service should be the best that you can give someone.

I sold Rainbows door-to-door for some 23 plus years. And over all, day after day and being in so many homes, nothing at all works as good as a Rainbow Vacuum cleaner. That's the bottom line. But I have to tell you that the older Rainbows from about 1980 to 1994 were and are the best vacuums ever made. I have used my vacuum for some 18 years, no problems at all. The newer models I have not owned nor sold, but they turn a lot higher rpm. Is that more short-term wear on the machine? Probably.
New sales people are all trained and taught that the Rainbow is an air purifier (drilled into their head). I will tell you that it is a vacuum that traps almost all dust and dirt in water. Remember you can't stomp dirt out of a mud puddle. Still, it's the best concept of all times out there. Oh they have made the vacuum heavier, lighter, shinier, vortexes, upright and pull-type (tank). They all just don't work. I just love my Rainbow and if you have one, you should to. Clean the separator and grease the nut once in a while. Or it will whine. As for cleaning the air, I never have used it for that! Just vacuum more, slow and easy.
Just look at what you are really getting out of your carpets with every use. As for a poor, week, maybe lazy, desperate salesman, they are in the roofing, siding, carpentry, landscaping, windows, just about every type of business out there! I will and always defend The Rainbow Vacuum, period end of story. It is the best. And you saw it when you bought it. I just wish I would have sold you yours. As I loved selling Rainbows door-to-door.
I would still being doing to this day except for the guy that took over Montana right above me. Most all the upper echelon in most of these vacuum companies are just old, who know who in the business. And they just overpriced the distributor cost and they in turn raised the cost to both sales people and the consumer as well. Sad. Just remember, “Selling is Capitalism in its rawest form". You negotiate your deal in your home! $3000.00 nuts, just nuts.

I never received my air purifier because the distributor went out of business. I called the company but they could not help. They told me that I had to go to my distributor. I told them that they had gone out of business. They told me once more that I have to go to my distributor. I told them once again that I can't because they went out of business. They told me a third time that I have to go to my distributor.
I don't know who is taking complaints at the company but they are as dumb as a rock. I can get absolutely no customer service because my distributor has gone out of business. I would give anything to have my old vacuum back. You pay over $2000 for a vacuum and you are stuck. The shampooer is a piece of junk. It does not work.

Three years ago, we had the unfortunate experience of having Sam ** (Southern Indiana/Louisville, KY area) do a demo, as a favor to a friend. Sam sat not even five feet away from our wood stove, with which we heat our home, and did his "miracle" demo with the vacuum, comparing it to ours. We even talked about heating with wood at some point. This man never said one word about the fact that you can't use these vacuums to clean up ash! Ash is the primary source of dust in our house, as well as dog dander and hair.
To my great dismay--as I did not want to spend half a fortune on this machine--my husband decided to buy it. A few months ago, it started making a deafening sound, despite cleaning the filter, etc. I contacted a repair person who said that this was a problem with a part that needed to be replaced--apparently, a known problem with these vacuums that is currently being resolved.

Approximately two years ago, I went to a Mexican restaurant and filled out an entry to attempt to win a cruise vacation. Days later, I received a call from a salesman who stated that I had won but I must agree to view a demo of the Rainbow vacuum. I agreed. When the salesman arrived at my home, he was very friendly--almost too friendly. The demo was great! I was reluctant in purchasing the machine because it was priced over $3,000; however, the salesman told me how I could finance the machine if I was buying my home. I agreed. He contacted someone on his cell phone and provided information before passing the phone to me.
When I got on the line, the representative verified my name, address, if I was buying or renting, and credit card information. She read off some information that appeared to have been recorded. When it was over, the salesman gave me the vacuum and promised that he would bring me an attachment for cleaning carpet if I gave him a call the next day. I was most impressed with the carpet cleaner.
Later, I discussed the purchase with my mate who insisted that I was scammed and instructed me to return the vacuum. I attempted to contact the salesman over a period of a week before he finally returned my call. The salesman told me that I was too late because Preferred credit had already issued him the money for the machine. He gave a spill about him having to feed his family and all.
I then contacted Preferred credit, who told me that I needed to contact the salesman so he could return the money. I tried but I never heard from the salesman again. And I did not receive the carpet cleaner either. Preferred credit debited my account for over a year prior to my having financial difficulties. I contacted Preferred several times and explained my situation. Now, someone (Tim) from Preferred credit has been stopping by my home threatening a lawsuit. This purchase is one that I truly regret. I need assistance.

We purchased a Rainbow because we had won a free air purifier from a local animal hospital. The guy came out with the free one and did a demo. We thought that this would be a good investment because of our daughter's allergies and asthma. He had some of the stuff with him; however, he would have to come back with the rest of what came with the product. At the same time, we gave him four people to give demos. He went to three of them and on the fourth person, he decided to run his credit before doing the demo. Needless to say, the fourth person did not qualify for one. The salesperson decided that since the person did not qualify, we needed to come up with another person. I have no clue on how this is my fault, but he refuses to bring us our free stuff for the four referrals.
We called and called but there was no answer along with no return calls. So, I got hold of the Rainbow company and they gave me this guy's boss' number. Of course, the boss decided that he did not care and neither does the Rainbow company. When I called to talk to them about it, they told me that there is nothing that they are able to do and that I need to talk to his boss again. When I told them that I have already done it, they still do not care.
I called them back and finally got through. I needed another water base for my Rainbow because somehow, mine broke. The guy said that it would take him a couple of days to get his hands on another one. Needless to say, that was over a month ago and we still don't have the replacement part. So, I am paying for a Rainbow every month, which I am not able to use. Oh, yeah, and for those who want to know, we purchased our Rainbow vacuum in December of 2010 and we are still waiting.
I warn people to be very careful when buying from this company because they do not care, once you buy the product, how they are represented from others selling their product. The people who sell Rainbow will ignore you once you have bought the product and they will not live up to their end of the deal. However, you are expected to live up to your end. They are lying to people and getting them to give names for the promise of free stuff yet that free stuff never seems to arrive. The main number will not do you any good because they claim that they are not able to help and you need to talk to your local dealer.

I sent a complaint last week about the Rainbow Dealer that did not deliver what he promised when we purchased a Rainbow Vacuum from him.
It was two weeks late since he said he would deliver the items and we heard nothing from him. So we called his number. After four days we called three times without response. We had to search on the internet for an hour to finally come up with an address for his business and my husband went down there. It was an unmarked and nearly empty office. The only thing that gave my husband a clue that it was his office was when he asked someone where it was.
He said he had been sick for four days but he got all our phone messages. He promised he would deliver by Thursday evening. Thursday evening came and he called to say he was out of town and he could not get to us until 8:30 pm. We said that would be fine yet he didn't show up.
My husband called him again and left another message, telling him I'd be home the next day and he could drop by then. He left a message on my husband's work phone and said he didn't intend to come late that evening and was planning to be by later afternoon. He never came and never called.
But while we were gone that evening which he knew we'd be gone, he dropped the stuff off on our front porch. He was supposed to trade us the long hose for the short one. We called to let him know we got the stuff and he can come any time to get the short hose we owe him. He never answers his phone, so we left a message on the answering machine. We have not heard a thing from him so far.

We purchased a Rainbow three weeks ago. We had a delightful time with the salesman. We loved the machine. However, he promised that we would receive a 15-ft. hose in trade for the original hose. We would also receive the floor squeegee and the Rainbowmate. He said he would have to order these items and they would arrive in two weeks time. He said that we could get the Aquamate for free if we give him four qualifying referrals and if we couldn't get four, we'd get a 25% discount on it for each referral we did get. We were only able to get him one referral. We have called and left messages on his answering machine twice so far, asking when he is going to deliver the extra promised items and if we can get the 25% discount on the Aquamate. He has not returned our calls.
I am beginning to lose hope that he is going to come through with the promised items as I realized he never put it in writing that he would be getting us these things and we failed to ask him to put it in writing and sign it. With each day that goes by and no communication, my heart sinks a little more, wondering if we are also victims of a scam. He did not give us an email or other contact information, only a phone number that he never picks up. It's always an answering machine.
We will continue to try to contact him. If we do not get any satisfaction in the next two weeks, I will post a follow-up to this and mention the city in which this Rainbow dealer works so others can stay away from him (them). If I do not post a follow up, then all who read this can assume he came through as promised and we are satisfied customers.

I had a young man come to the door. He had been a classmate of my daughter's. Stupidly, I let him in, and he started telling me he worked for Rainbow, and I told him I was retired, and would not be able to afford the payments. Well, he promised me that I would not see a payment if I did the 25 in 30. He said he would help me do it, and I would get the credit he reneged on this.
I found out this never happened, because he did not deliver as he promised, and I got stuck with payments I didn't need. Also I find out the guy is an addict, and strung out on pain medicines. Well lucky me! I also got a part time job there, and found out all the sales hype they use. Like reps from Rainbow go to county, state fairs, and have a booth set up. They will have a jar or whatever filled with money, and you are to fill out a card to see who comes closest to the amount.
That card has your name your address and your telephone number. Well, they have you now. They call everyone that filled out a card, and tell the customer that they have won a daily prize from the daily drawing. This daily drawing means everyone who filled out a card gets a call. When they bring your prize, they would like to do a few minutes worth of demo of the Rainbow. Don't do it because it will not be just a few minutes, but a few hours.
Nothing against the vacuum, because I like mine, but no vacuum is worth $3,000. I find that some of the sales people just want to sell, sell, sell, and line their pockets with your money, and do not give a ** about the customer. Also, they have supposedly a grocery drawing, where they go door to door, and have people fill out cards again. You just gave them all your information. They wait a few days, and then they call every card they have, and to this day, I didn't hear of anyone who won the groceries. This is from someone who worked there. The damage is that I will never trust a sales person again.

My mother, who also bought a vacuum for her home, waited on replacement of the defective power head for over 2 weeks (was promised 3 days).
When we provided names of friends, they claimed that their company policy was not to do demonstrations to single women (no problem with single men, though we had one of each on our form). After a severe chewing by my wife, they relented. Did not return calls or reschedule with one of our referrals. On July 26, 2010, we had a young man (Sean **) come to our door, with a free one room cleaning machine, just to see a 15-min. demonstration. What a big joke! They were there for over 3 hours!
First, the young man came in, then later, when I indicated we could not afford a Rainbow to the tune of $2341.16, his boss (Justin **) suddenly appeared at our door with a long tail, about a rebate. Another big joke, he did as he said though, he sent the rebate check to me. Oh, but this is not the end of the demonstration yet, a 3rd man (Lain **) came to our door, who said he was the big Boss. Ye gads, we were bombarded with not one, but 3 fast talking, pushy salesmen.
We ended up signing a yellow paper. The following Saturday afternoon, I received a letter in the mail from a Credit Company congratulating me on my credit, that it was great, and that a Rainbow System would be charged from me, through them. Because it was Saturday afternoon, I was unable to contact any of the salesmen. However, my husband was able to get an answer at the office with Lain **, who was so loud and rude, way out of line when my husband tried to explain our problem, he promptly made it clear too bad, so sad. It was ours to keep and pay for, rather the law was broken or not and promptly hung up on my husband Gene.
Hmmm, very disturbing, as no one had asked permission to even run a credit check, nor did anyone ever mention the fact that this would be run through a credit company at 21.99 % interest! This is something, had we known, we never would have signed anything! My husband and myself were lead to believe we would be making monthly payments to the Rainbow Company.
The young man (Sean **) said, he had to call the office, soon after that statement, he said to me, "She wants to talk to you also." I assumed this was the secretary at Rainbow. When I asked who I was speaking with, she told me Jamie. Not in my wildest thoughts, did I ever once believe I was speaking with a Credit Company. The Lady did not identify herself as a representative of any Credit Co. These Rainbow Sales people do not tell you everything up front, rather they beat around the bush, and leave the most important things out completely, i.e., the credit check, the credit company, and who knows what all they do that is crooked.
In my mind, this is against the law. I would agree to keep the machine, if we would be able to pay direct to the Rainbow Company. These 3 pushy salesmen took advantage of (2) 71-year old. They talked so fast, neither one of us could even consume all the lies they were pushing at us so fast.
I have living proof of the poor customer relations which I have read on the internet! I have called and called and called to no avail. The young man, Sean ** does return my calls, however I feel this is due to the fact that he is still too new to have learned all of the crooked things to say and do like the other two men - Mr. Justin **, and Mr. Lain **. When I called the main office this morning, I was told the man I was talking to was just the service man, he told me he would transfer me to Mr. **. Big Joke. Mr. ** was conveniently not available, however Mrs. ** took my call. How very interesting a person she is. Just as crooked as all the rest of the Rainbow Sales people.
She was very rude, and had the same fast rude lingo as the Rainbow sales people, who evidently have been trained to speak to their customers in this manner. I say again, very rude, nasty and very unruly to me! Not a very good way to speak to a new customer. So, like all the letters I have copied from the internet, I feel the same way as they all did and do feel!
I am enclosing a few of the letters for your information. I also will put my input on the internet to hopefully help some poor soul from becoming led into a raw deal like we were, even though I do believe it is a very good machine.
I have copied several pages from the web, all of which Rainbows sales people were very pushy, and their customer service is rotten. At this time, we are requesting to either get out of the contract with the Credit Co., and pay Rainbow Co, direct at no interest, or return their Rainbow machine to the pushy salesmen.

I ended use of the product but my husband agreed to do a demo of the new Rainbow in Spring 2010. This was a guy I went to high school with and high pressure tactics wouldn't work. The demo was fun and when we said no, it meant no. End of story.
Surprisingly, the company honored the 'deal' they tossed us plus something we didn't expect. They sent us the GPS system and the Rainmate. We'd never been told about the Rainmate. So the group in Columbia, Missouri was good to their word.
The only thing negative I can say is we were given a voucher for a free vacation that turned out to be a total scam. I don't blame Rainbow but they should have checked out the validity of the offer. The other thing was they offered to meet me on the way to do a demo in my area with stuff. I was buying fragrances from them for my new Rainmate. They stood me up. I hate being stood up especially when I had to cancel plans with friends - thinking these folks were late. Two days later, a woman called me, "I've got your fragrances." I told her where I stood on this and she was stunned the guy at the office never said 'boo' to her. I got the impression she was not the person who was in our area doing a demo.
I want to buy a Rainbow if I can find someone willing to sell a new one (not previously demoed machine) who will negotiate a decent price. But I'm leary to do business with them. Yes, they honored the original agreement. But will I get the good honest folks if my machine breaks down or will they stand me up? That's the expensive question.

I have tried Dyson (definitely not worth the money) and Kenmore. The Rainbow beats both products hands down at cleaning. The complaints I read on this site seem to refer mostly to the poor customer service or the salesman. I guess I am lucky because we had a very non-pushy salesman 12 years ago, I have never had to have my unit serviced and therefore haven't had to deal with customer service. I feel like the Rainbow was a great investment that I will have for many years to come. I don't remember the exact cost but $1500 sounds close. I have probably spent that much in extra vacuums that I am never satisfied with over the years. Just wish the water basin wasn't such a pain to deal with but still LOVE my vacuum.

They had a promotion, if you refer 3 people where both wife and husband are home, you get a pot set better than Zepter. So I referred 3 people and they went to one person’s house that wasn’t a qualified referral because the husband was working part time. So they cancelled all my referrals and told me I’m no longer qualified for the promotion. They never asked me if spouses were working.
When I called Marina, in the Brooklyn office to find out why she cancelled, she told me I know why. I guess she couldn’t think of a good enough reason. They are a bunch of liars and they don’t tell you everything upfront. Not only that, my husband and I sat for a demonstration for 5 hrs. We wasted our time in looking for the referrals and with the guy, who by the way was very disrespectful and wouldn’t take no for an answer.

I had a rainbow demonstration done to help my brother get the RainMate that him and his wife wanted. Although we could not afford one, I did one anyways. The salesperson did the demonstration and told me if I did 21 demonstrations I could get my rainbow vacuum for free. Since I wasn't working at the time I decided to do them so I could get one for free. I did 20 of the 21 demonstrations, and sold 2 vacuum cleaners.
While I only had one left to do, the rainbow people at the Gastonia and Morganton office said that my time had run out and I needed to do 18 more demonstrations, so I guess the only ones that counted were the 2 that I sold. It is a rip-off. They don't tell you everything up front. You have to go to at least one meeting a week at either the Gastonia or Morganton office, and if you do a demonstration for single people it does not count, nor does it count if they are married and only one of them views the demonstration.
To top it all off, they gave me a used rainbow, not a new one. I could tell it had been used in demonstrations, because the part where the hose goes into the machine was dirty. The rainbow people at the Gastonia and Morganton offices lie, trap, and use people to make money for themselves. They will tell you anything to get you to buy one. They will also get you to get them names, and take them from you. They will let someone else do demonstrations on the names you got for them.
I made a few payments, but lost my job, and now it is hurting my credit score. Also some of the people I did demonstrations for are mad, because they gave me names and someone else is doing the demonstrations instead of me.

Rainbow system is not as good as they say. It has many problems to fit in an average Canadian home with multiple floors. The actual price is not even a thousand dollars. A little research disclosed that machine is about $500 only and the rest of the three to four thousand dollars are the commissions. We were told to "give it a try for three months" when we tried to return the machine within 24 hours. They also offered an "Equity Four Program", that is another scam right there. To hide the return policy, the salesman did not leave any sales receipt or credit application behind. What a scam!

My boyfriend and I went through the demonstration for the Rainbow Vacuum Cleaner on Friday 4/23/2010. We were told we could keep it for a couple of days and if we decided that we did not want it (because we mentioned throughout the demonstration that we could not afford it) that we could return it at anytime. After having the product all weekend and through today 4/28/2010, we have decided that because we just purchased a home and have several other bills and a house to pay for, that we would like to return it.
Upon contacting the individual who did the demonstration, we were told that we could not return it without the return significantly lowering our credit scores. Upon asking why, we were told that we had 3 days from the time of purchase to return it, or we were stuck with it and if we did return it, it would be a lengthy process and again our credit score would be lowered. We were asked if we read the papers that were left with us about the return policy and we said we didn't see one. She then told us where we could find it and it was on the very bottom of a page so faded out that it was hardly noticeable. On top of that, we were not given a new Rainbow Vacuum, we were given a used one that we were told had been used in many other demonstrations (It has sat in the box ever since the date of the demonstration was over).
We simply just want to return the product without having it affect us or our credit score in any negative way at all. We have also been called repeatedly day after day and at least 5 times per day each. We feel that we have been harassed and on top of that, we feel that the return policies for this company are not customer friendly and the employees of this company do not care about how you feel you have been treated wrongly. Please just help us to return this product and retain what credit score we still have at its current level.

I did a search to find the Denver (actually Wheatridge, CO) Rainbow repair shop to pick up some more scents for our Rainbow vacuum and was surprised to find any complaints about Rainbow vacuums. As far as I am concerned, they are the best vacuums made, hands down. We have had ours for almost 30 years with only one servicing about 4 years ago where they gave it a cleaning and replaced a bearing which ran about $70.
Yes, it was pricey when we first got it but it does an amazing job of cleaning and I think that is partially the reason that, although I have asthma, I seldom have any problem with it at home. If you are in the area, check out Rainbow Vacuum Cleaners-R Service Center in Wheatridge, CO. I know they sell used ones and maybe new ones and have been in business a long time so they must be doing something right.

Rainbow Vacuum sales gimmicks are definitely time intensive and high pressure tactics. My experience was no different and she did take my "old" vacuum cleaner with her. With all of that being said, the Rainbow Vacuum cleaner has been a great machine. I have cats and cat fur, it cleans it up even after 10 years of use. I took my Rainbow to the only service shop in the USA, in Denver, Colorado. They serviced it and it performs great. It still does, several months later. I don't understand when you have a good product why cheapen the whole experience with poor business practices. Buy the Rainbow used/refurbished mid 1990's model-they run forever. And for go the "demonstration".

A demonstrator came to our home at 6:30 in the evening on Thursday. We agreed to do the demonstration for a friend. Anyway, I had tried to call and get him to come on another day but he just wouldn't give in. I had my three kids there who had school the next day, they were getting restless, hungry, and needed to take their baths. It was after 10:00 before he left and he didn't even ask if you want to buy it, he asked what payment option will I be using.
He wanted us to give him names of people so we could get the free humidifier, we didn't even want it. Anyways, I wouldn't wish that kind of torture for over three hours on anyone. Me and my husband were both furious after he left, I felt like just throwing him out of the house. They shouldn't be allowed to do this to people. I will never let anyone do a demonstration in my home again.

I purchased a Rainbow system on Feb. 1, 2010 and was told I could return it if I was not satisfied. I was told that I was getting $1000 food voucher, a trip voucher, and the rainmaker free. I paid the salesman Nick in full that day. Three days later, he brought my machine but does not have: the food voucher, the trip voucher, the rainmaker, the scents I paid extra for, and was missing the bag to clean cushions. He said they were back ordered and I would get them shortly.
Days later and a lot of phone calls after, I talked to RK who is the owner of this distribution place. I explained that I just want my money back, because I haven't gotten all the stuff I was promised. He said he couldn't do that and assured me he would get me everything due me plus an extra $1000 food voucher. I haven't gotten the rest of the stuff and he isn't returning my calls!

I just want to let everyone know that I am using the same Rainbow that my grandmother purchased in the mid 80's! Now, it looks like crap and most of the extra parts and pieces are missing but it still works great! I am actually looking to purchase a new model just because you can only imagine what a 25 year old vacuum cleaner looks like. It doesn't like to start, if its been sitting in the cold garage and a vacuum repair man totally screwed up my power tool a couple of years ago. I figure it's time to put the old girl out to pasture.
For those of you who have been taken advantage of by salesman etc. Sounds like you got suckered and we all have had those experiences. With the advent of eBay etc. You can find these machines everywhere now and at much better prices. I don't know why you'd let a salesman into your home? Take it from me, if my 25 year old machine still works, then there is nothing wrong with a refurbished one (those are easier to find).

Rainbow vacuums treat single people like second-class citizens. My friend bought a Rainbow with a deal that would lower the cost by $1,000 with 10 referrals if two referrals purchased. But, by Rainbow's contract, the only referrals that counted in the 10 were referrals to married couples, regardless of ability to purchase. Referrals to single people would count only if they actually purchased. I could not believe my ears!
I called the Rainbow sales office and asked about making a purchase, and sure enough that's what their contract says. I was so angry that I told them that I have plenty of money to pay for it and know plenty of other women like me who did too. But I would never buy from a company that treats single women like second-class citizens. A salesman then called back and tried to tell me that he would overlook that part of the contract for me and would count any referrals that had the ability to purchase. So apparently, in addition to thinking I'm a second-class citizen, he thinks I'm stupid enough to sign a contract that he will then ignore. I was born in October, but it wasn't last October!

I had two twenty-year old kids come to demonstrate the Rainbow Vacuum for me on Wednesday, 1/6/10. At the end of the nearly 3-hour demonstration they offered me a payment plan schedule and I chose the lowest payment: $102.00 a month for 24 months. I was also asked to fill out a credit app, which I did. I asked them why they make you fill that out after they take all of your checking account information. They said everyone fills one out. I told them due to a divorce I did not have squeaky clean credit and even though that was said I was left the vacuum and under the impression that they were going to start taking out the payments as of 1/9/2010. That is on the contract that the payments would start on Jan. 9th. They filled out a buyer’s contract.
This was on Wednesday evening and today is Monday the 11th and the owner called me today and told me that I was not approved by the finance company and he wanted the vacuum back. I am not happy about this. I gave them my credit info about my banking account and gave them names of people that may be interested in their product and they treat a customer that way, by embarrassing them. I told a lot of people that I purchased it and now I have to give it back. I would like to know if that is legal since they sold me the vacuum as far as I am concerned. They left it here for 5 days. I love it and I do not feel I should have to give it back to them. They filled out the contract for me. Should I file a complaint in court? Any info you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

My vacuum is a piece of crap. It has lack of power, and the hose falls off from the carpet cleaner. Also, the carpet shampooer does not work.

The hose was very difficult to snap into the vacuum, and the plastic snap pieces broke off. I can't get rid of the bad smell. And the hose for the carpet with extra power kept shutting off, and the floor brush kept falling off. Also, 3 small attachments attached onto the end of 2 pieces of the hose but not into the last piece, so you can only use them with a short hose (This is extremely inconvenient.).

The vacuum distributor went to my house and tried to sell a new vacuum to my wife, and for some reason, he tricked my wife in buying a newer version of Rainbow vacuum. He told my wife that he will take our old vacuum for him to clean and later bring it back to us. We bought our old vacuum for $1,400.00. He never bought our old vacuum and he even charged us more money. He is a Filipino and I'm sure that were not the only Filipino he scammed. I think he is trying to scare my wife. That is why my wife kept it secret from me. My wife tried a couple of times asking, begging for him to return our vacuum and I think he’s nowhere to be found now. We only have his e-mail address. I bought a Rainbow system in March 2009 and was told that if I gave them four names, I would get a shampooer in 4-6 weeks after the four people got a demo. It's now Aug. and I finally got it. I love the product they sold me but their customer service is lacking. I had to continually call and bug them for my shampooer. On the good side of things, the shampooer is fantastic. It cleans the carpets better than rug doctors. Really great machine.

There were a lot more gifts that I got, but not the gas certificate. So, I tried to get the money of the gas certificate, but the company went out of business. So, I called Rainbow and they gave another company for the gas certificate, but I waited for over four months. I called Rainbow again and they gave these numbers: 1-800-771-4004 and 561-844-4537. I called and there were no answers. I left a message for about five days and there’s still no answer. So, I called Rainbow on 7-29-09 and they said there is nothing they can do about it, so I'm not happy with that. I just want what they promised me. If you please can help me, I’ll appreciate it. My friend bought a Rainbow for $2,300 and realized that it doesn't work even close to other products. They feel like they had been scammed, even more so when I mentioned that 8 years ago, my sister in-law bought one for $1,200. We haven't been able to find any information regarding a satisfaction guarantee. What do we do? She has had it only for two months and I used my vac on her carpet just after she used hers and I picked up all kinds of dirt. That's not healthy at all.
