I had my new Lennox system installed 2 years ago. Last week it stopped working. The local contractor that sold it to me found that the Freon was low. That meant a leak. They found the leak at the coil in the air handler. The coil has a 5-year warranty. The problem is that they won't cover labor so it will cost me $850 to have it replaced under warranty. They put it back together since it would take time for them to get the replacement coil. They recharged the Freon so it will work for me and charged $202. That will total $1052. I got the new system so I could enjoy a few years of not having to worry about it breaking down and having to spend a bunch of money on it. 2 years just isn't long enough. I'm tempted to remove it and take it to the local distributor and find an ** to (well you know). Just wrong.

I had a new Lennox furnace (Model # SLP98UH135XV60D-04) installed in October 2013. It works very well except one thing that bothers me. When the blower motor runs, which about 50% of the time, winter or summer, it makes a whining sound that is heard distinctly all through the house as it travels through the ductwork. It is just loud enough that it would bother some people and not others. Of course I expect to hear the rush of the air out the vents when the blower is running, but the whining of the motor itself is somewhat torturous. The contractor ordered another motor and replaced it. It sounded the same. Then the contractor and a Lennox rep came to my house and agreed it was a little loud. They told me they did something that quieted it down. But they did not, as it continued to sound just the same. When I am in bed waiting to fall asleep, I am happy when the motor stops.

Elite Series CBX32M - Ever since a local company installed Lennox unit in my condo in 2008, I have had the coils replaced twice. It seems as though the unit lasts two years and then it starts leaking coolant. The company who installed the unit has been very good about servicing it but, how long can a company keep replacing the coils. After reading many reviews, it seems as though this is a common problem with the Lennox units. Once again, after two years, my unit is leaking coolant again. Once again, I have to call the service people to come out and find out what is going on. So my unit is running constantly in this 100 degree weather and my warranty is probably out. I am afraid it will cost a fortune to fix even with my service plan. My problem is with the unit, not the service people.

I purchased a Lennox 15GCSX package unit in 2007. I thought that this would be the last heating and air conditioner unit I would need to buy because I am in bad health and getting older. After getting out of the hospital for major surgery, I was looking forward to coming home to a cool house since I live in Tucson, Arizona. A few days after coming home, the unit stopped cooling. I had paid over $10,000 for this unit. I called the dealer that had installed it. They sent a technician out at the cost of $95 only to tell me the coolant had leaked out and it would cost $700 to fill it and if there was another valve that went out, it would cost another $1,100 for that. I had paid for a parts and labor coverage of $495 when I purchase. Neither the dealer or Lennox would do anything to correct the problem.

I purchased a Lennox roof-mounted 15CHPXA-30-230-1A packaged heat pump system in March 2008. My old unit was 30 years old (original equipment) and was working properly. I live in the Sacramento California area and it typically reaches 100 degrees June through September and I simply wanted a more efficient, energy-saving unit.

In July 2014 the unit suddenly stopped cooling normally. I called the installer and arranged a service call. After an inspection and pressure test the repairman told me the evaporator coil developed a leak. I was told the failed part was not covered under warranty and that the cost for replacement and repair would be $3300.00.

I phoned the Lennox corporate office and was basically told stuff happens and there was nothing Lennox was going to do to help rectify the issue. I paid $8000.00 for the unit. I assume a significant portion of this cost is installation and removal of the old unit. It is unacceptable for a single, vitally functional part of this appliance to fail after six years. It is unacceptable for a single, vitally functional part of this appliance does not have a better warranty. It is unacceptable for a single part of this appliance to cost about half the cost of the total unit. It is unacceptable that Lennox does not stand by their product. I stopped running the unit to prevent further damage. The outside temperature was 100 degrees today. At 8:00 PM the temperature inside my home is 86 degrees.

LENNOX #CBX32 - Our new home was purchased in 2006 - 2500 sq.ft. After 1 1/2 years the unit wasn't cooling as well as it should, so we called the dealer for Lennox that installed the unit. They came out and related it was the copper wire not soldered down and the Freon had leaked. Of, course they said that wasn't under warranty, but would service the unit for $735.00 (Freon very expensive). Thank-you very much! So I called my regular A/C repairman (also Lennox-certified) and related it should have been covered by the dealer since it was a factory defect, but he repaired and filled the Freon for $450.00. Now in 2013, I'm fighting massive black mold, that's been shooting out of all the vents! I've had two different repairmen to check the unit and can find nothing wrong to create the mold. Called Lennox and asked for help. They hung up on me!!! You know where Lennox can go!! They use to be top A-1 in A/Cs, but I will not buy one again and advise anyone else to do the same... The quality service is no longer there.

My wife an I moved into a new home in 2008. We have a Lennox heat pump system that has had nothing but problems from day one. Our A/C unit model # 13HPD-024-230-01 goes out on us every single year during the hottest of days. To date, we have replaced the fan motor and assembly, the capacitor, the contactor, and fixed a Freon leak (which still happens every single year). Our furnace model # CB26UH-0242-230-1 goes out on us every other year and to date we have replaced the blower motor, the sequencer(s) and numerous other interior parts that I cannot count. I have also spoke to several of our neighbors with the same system and they also have experienced nothing but problems with their Lennox units. It is clear to me after hearing neighbors, friends and other clients, as well as my own experience that Lennox products are inferior and simply are NOT built to last any substantial length of time. I would not recommend ANY Lennox product to anyone unless you are willing to suffer through the many times it breaks down.

So a system that is 9 months old and had maybe 4 or 5 months of air conditioning needs a new coil and 10 lbs of Freon at $160.00 as well. I didn't get this figured out until it was past the one year warranty. All you folks that only made it 3-5 years... try 9 months and still owing on it! I will never purchase this system again!

Contacted the HVAC dealer by phone and inspected the exterior unit. Inspection revealed that the entire internal components has been exposed to a significant fire and all burnable components were consumed. Only the sound blanket insulation that was fire retardant and the metal parts remained. The HVAC technician investigated and reported that the terminals had apparently blown out, for an unknown reason, and the oil used for lubrication in the motor likely caught fire.

I just exceeded the cost of the furnace as the part is not warrantied. The furnaces are a disaster and you won't get any assistance from Lennox. You can't email them let alone trying to get through on the phone. Don't waste your time having their products installed. Each visit to repair the unit costs $400.00. $2400.00 over 10 years and the boards last 18 months, maybe 2 years if you are lucky and they are aware of the problem as I was told it's "common", yet no plans to resolve the poorly constructed boards. I cannot believe that Lennox will not stand behind its product.

Lennox G71MPP-60C-090 - This furnace was installed in my residence in October 2010, replacing a Carrier that was installed when the house was built in 1990. This furnace does a good job of heating our house, but I am disappointed with the Propane gas consumption. I calculated the total fuel usage on both furnaces:

    - Carrier 1/30/04 to 10/26/10 - 1.79 gallons per day

    - Lennox 10/30/10 to 01/07/14 - 1.91 gallons per day

This difference is not large ($85-$100 year) but is disappointing in view of the 95% claimed efficiency for the Lennox and the fact that one would expect more progress in the 20 year span between furnaces. The furnace has been evaluated by a Lennox factory trained technician and the furnace is operating to specifications. In view of this experience, I would not recommend a Lennox furnace.

They replaced it with a Dunkirk Q90-150. Since 2005, we have had to replace a couple of computer boards and at least 3 ignitions. Last night it started to leak. Our temps are presently 4 degrees and falling. They are supposed to be sub-zero tonight and single digits for the next 4 days. When working with warranty department, they were extremely slow about returning calls to my repair person. I finally intervened and in no uncertain terms talked to consumer affairs and to warranty. Took us all day to get the warranty processed only to find out that they are just replacing the guts with another heat exchanger. And to send this unit even overnight would mean I am without heat for a couple of days.

I could not afford to have my home unheated during this period of single/sub zero temps. Plus, 3 units in 10.5 years is unacceptable. Lennox heat pump was installed December 2011. During a recent ice storm during Christmas 2013, the defrost board failed according to the Lennox authorized repairman. He just called to tell me that Lennox has a problem with this and has had to order over 250 defrost boards for this unit and it will take 2 to 3 weeks for it to come in to the local company. I had to resort to space heaters for the last few weeks because all that came out of the vents was cold air. I had visited the Lennox site but they had no information on what to do and no support at all when I called. I then did a search on the internet and found out that I could get heat from the a/c unit in the attic by putting the setting on Emergency Heat.

I did this out of frustration from being cold and having the flu. The post said that this is very expensive but I had to resort to this to get warm. I just received an electric bill for $330 because the heat pump was constantly running. My usual bill is about $100. I am sure that my next bill will also be close to $300 because it took awhile to get someone out to look at my unit. I chose Lennox because of the name and am disappointed in their product, their taking responsibility for this and their not having any support on their website.

Purchased a brand new Lennox XP14 heat pump and Lennox electric furnace (air handler), which were installed together by a certified dealer. Living in Quebec, I was assured that on cold winter days the system would be extremely energy efficient, as the 2 units would work in tandem, with the electric element only coming on as required to "help" the heat pump. Well, the first cold night (around -18 Celsius) came, and the heat pump just stopped working. The heat was still working, but it was only the furnace element, no high efficiency heat pump! I called the dealer and was told they would not come to look at the unit until the weather warmed.

It's been a month since my first call, with several in between to try to schedule an appointment. Finally, today I received a call from my dealer who told me that they have found that the heat pump has an electronic sensor which switches it off when the temperatures drop!! It was suggested that I turn off all of the electric breakers to both the furnace and heat pump in order to rest the system, and when I schedule my spring maintenance, an additional exterior sensor would be installed which should solve the problem for next winter. Somehow, I do not think it is wise to ask a customer to start playing with breakers in order to hopefully fix a problem, and then wait until spring. There are still 3 more months of Canadian winter, and I will not be spending my time playing in my electric panel to fix an obvious problem with my Lennox equipment. All told, I am very discouraged with this whole experience, and would not recommend any Lennox product.

About 4 years ago, we had two identical x19 Lennox heat pumps installed within about 6 feet of each other at our estate residence. From the start, one of the units has behaved badly while the other worked as expected. The units were installed by a high-end contractor from Charlottesville who had installed three other (Trane) units at our other properties. Their work was great and their response has exceeded expectation. None of the Trane units have ever given us problems.

In contrast, one of Lennox units has worked poorly from the start. It has had board failures several times, repeatedly frozen up, and generally functioned inconsistently. It has repeatedly gone into defrost mode in the winter, lowering the interior temperature 3 to 5 degrees and then shut down or frozen over. Sometimes it would run and run and generate little or no heat. Other times, it would repeatedly go into 2nd stage, make little heat, and run for hours while the matching unit ran moderately as expected by the weather.

Just a few days ago, the faulty unit froze up with 3" of ice on the top and completely ice-filled on the sides (photos attached from this most recent failure) and, of course, no heat - again. The matching unit sitting beside this defective unit worked flawlessly. Over these four years, our respected HVAC contractor has made numerous trips checking the unit, replacing boards, checking pressures, etc. - all to no avail. After a few weeks, the problems start again. This is just one lousy dog of a unit.

Finally, I demanded that our contractor take the faulty unit out and replace it. Apparently, this finally moved the needle so that Lennox agrees to send someone to look (how kind of them...). They are arranging to have a Lennox rep here in the next week - but(!) already the Lennox guy is saying it's possibly weather-related. That's simply bunk. If it was weather-related, both units would be affected approximately the same way (trust me, Lennox, the weather really IS the same when the two units are six feet apart). I am ready to hear all the excuses.

The way we see it, we're 100% OK with three Trane systems and hitting a lousy 50-50 with two expensive Lennox units. We'll report what the Lennox guy does (or doesn't) do. Please do look at the photos. Would you really like to see this over and over?

P.S. The last photo of the attached series was taken a full 30 hours(!) after we shut down the faulty unit. After 30 hours, it was still filled with ice around the coils and across the top. It took another two days to thaw out before we could restart it. Thanks, Lennox - class act...

Then came the falsehoods, too wet to replace the unit, too cold to replace the units! Finally, after many complaints, parts replaced, but the original problem not addressed.

After three years of failures and the local dealer stalling by saying, "We adjusted this, let's see if that works." After much frustration, I installed a pellet stove to heat our home!! Finally after three years, the unit still having the same difficulty the local dealer came back, then replaced the fan motor and controls, but charged a large labor bill! Seems like a common theme! Now they have not renewed my service contract, I assume this is to allow Lennox to say I did not have the annual service done, so the warranty is void!! Also purchased two HC10 whole-home filtration systems. After three years of fighting dust build up in our home, discovered the filters create a white dust and distribute thru the ductwork! Should be illegal to operate this way!

My family had a Lennox A/C unit that worked for 19 years, wWhich was when our home was built in 1991. On August of 2010 we thought that we upgraded our cooling system with a Elite Series XC14 unit($9000). But after only 3 years the unit froze up. When the Service Tech came out he found that there was a leak in the evaporator coil and that it needed to be replaced. Knowing that it was under warranty left us no worries until we were informed that we would have to pay the labor cost of $850.00. What I don't understand is they knew there were problems with the units they were selling. It is my understanding now that they don't use those same evaporator coils anymore. But what about the people who had the defective coils? Do they not matter?

Seems pretty clear to me that instead of doing the right thing and take care of the loyal consumers who put their trust in their reputation, they've become more worried about the almighty dollar, building defective products and doing as little for their patrons as possible. If they continue to go down this path then they're doomed to fail and go the way of the Dodo. You can bet that I'll be posting a picture and video of everything on Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Not to mention that I come in contact with hundreds of different people everyday while working outside and I'll ask them to lend me their ear on this subject.

Lennox Model #CBX27UH-042 - A brand new Lennox system was installed in my house in May 2012. A week ago, the blower fan in the air handler quit working. I called the company that installed the system and told them I suspected the blower fan motor had died, and they sent a repair tech to check it out. He verified that the motor was indeed bad and charged me $89. The whole system has a 1 year warranty on parts & labor and a 5 year warranty on parts. So of course I would have to pay for the labor to replace the motor as it was beyond the 1 year warranty by 4 months. They replaced the motor the next day, and I was charged $270 for what took less than an hour. I told the company I had read on the internet about Lennox having problems with blower fan motors, and they said they didn't have any bulletins from Lennox about it. But the tech did tell me he has replaced some before.

I'm 66 years old and I have never ever had to replace a blower fan motor before. These new variable speed motors with built-in module controls are too fancy for their own good. I'll guarantee you the control module is what fails and not the motor. So I'm out $359 and not happy about it. I wonder how long this new motor will last. Now I will say that the tech told me he thought Lennox was the best system on the market (20 years experience) and I felt he was being honest (not because I had one). That doesn't say much for the products out there today (said Carrier was the worst). Good luck everyone with whatever brand you choose. I'm thinking about an extended warranty on parts & labor, but man are they expensive. Probably because they have to keep paying out for repairs. What does that tell you??

My husband and I purchased a new construction home in July 2008 in which 2 Lennox heating and air systems were installed. In Sept 2011, the upstairs unit stopped cooling the day prior to our routine annual service call. The HVAC specialist explained that the AC coil was frozen from the loss of refrigerant and he found the leaks in the coil. He went on to explain that the evaporator coils used in the 13ACD series were of poor quality and that the coil had to be replaced. Because our unit was still under the 5-year warranty, Lennox agreed to replace the coil but to our surprise would not cover the cost of labor. So, my husband and I had to pay $900 in labor costs.

Then on September 5, 2013, again during our routine annual AC service, the HVAC specialist informed me that there is corrosion on the coils in our downstairs unit and that he found a leak in the evaporator coil. Then he explained to me about the defective evaporator coils that were used in these Lennox units. Since I had heard this same exact explanation 2 years ago from a different HVAC specialist from a different company, I began to suspect that these were not coincidences and began to do some research which led me to this forum. We have not yet replaced the coil in the downstairs unit because it is now going to cost us over $1800 because Lennox has refused to cooperate because this time the 5-year warranty has expired. This is very frustrating, not to mention expensive and has definitely changed my view of Lennox products.

We have had nothing but trouble with our heat pump air conditioner... It is only 3 yrs. old and have had 4 or more service calls. The Freon has leaked out of a part from the factory. The service guys welded it back and same thing happened again the next year. Replaced that part from factory and had to put Freon back again... Also in the winter we had a clog in the humidifier so everything got wet, another service call. So NOW this summer it is not keeping the house level of humidity below 57% to 59%! Feels like sleeping outside in humid weather. Hence another service call! He wired the fan to move slower so it will run to gather the humidity from the house if it is over 50%. Also changed the coil, as the one we had is no longer made! He had to retrofit it to fit our unit. Well it definitely is over 50% most of the time.

I have to turn it down to 71' to get it to run on high to get the humidity just to come down to 56%. This is crazy. Is Lennox going pay our electric bill? This piece of equipment has cost us enough money in the last 3 years to partly pay for a new unit. The service rep out of Omaha is of NO help. He tells my husband that we are on our own, as to service calls. They will replace whatever parts are still warranted, but, as all of you know service, labor is NOT CHEAP! I am so disgusted with Lennox that we just want our defective unit replaced! It cost us hardworking people a lot of money and thought we were getting TOP-of-the-line.

Well let me tell you there are plenty of people asking how we like our new heat pump and they are going to hear exactly how we feel about it! I will NEVER recommend a Lennox anything... I bought a new home in 2006. The A/C worked fine for about a month then it just started blowing hot air. I called the A/C guys who filled it with Freon (which it should not have been out of). One month later, it was empty again. The A/C guys checked the line and said the cheap laborers who did the stucco had used long nails and punctured the lines in about 6 units including mine. They tore a hole in the side of my house, patched the leak and used a paint roller to roll a 2' line of stucco back on - lovely.

The next summer, A/C is blowing hot air. A/C guys come back (I might add the A/C guys were the ones who installed the unit in the first place). They sniffed for leaks and couldn't find any. They said the only alternative was to put the line on the outside of my house - which they did, and it cost me $1000.00 (plus the Freon cost each time, of course). The A/C ran for a month and then out it goes. I call them back. They put in more Freon and tell me that I should get a newer, more modern unit to the tune of $2500.00 because everyone is using those now. Well, I didn't have $2500.00.

I call another A/C guy. He comes over and says that the leak is where the initial A/C guy welded the copper too close to the unit more than likely burning out the compressor. $545 later he looks for me a new unit which I get for $1500 - a Goodman basically the same as the Lennox. He hooks it up - still leaking. He goes sniffing around again and now tells me that there is a leak in the back of the coils. So, he's looking for me a replacement coil - at least $400 if he can even find one. I'm ready to burn the house down if the heat doesn't do it for me. Any ideas? Can anyone be held liable?

I purchased a home and one of the reasons why we bought the home was that it had a relatively new Lennox Elite Series Heat Pump. We have been in the home a little over four years now. This week we paid $180 to add 2 pounds of Freon. The contractor that came out suggested that we try and add the Freon to see if it is a slow leak, before we get into expensive fixes. That lasted two nights and it started not to cool again. I have an AC guy that I typically call out who I completely trust. They couldn't come out when the unit originally started acting up, but I did however call them out for the second service call. They suggested we make sure that the original call wasn't someone who failed to do the job properly. And let's rule out the obvious.

So when they refilled my Freon, they said it was 8 pounds low - my unit only holds a little over 9 pounds. The quality service people they are. They told me not to pay them anything - let's see if it leaks back out before we decide where to go from here. So, three days later, the unit quit cooling again. It now looks like we are going to pull the coil on the unit under the house to see if we can find where the leak is on the coil and if it is repairable. If we find that's the problem and it's something that can't be soldered, then it looks like we will be ordering a new coil. My advice is, after reading reviews of others that have Lennon heat pumps, don't waste your money on a $7,000-$10,000 unit that will require more of your money within six years. That, my friends, is not what I call a quality product.

My local Lennox Dealer installed a great Lennox air conditioner at a great price. Unfortunately, the manufacturer-supplied "A" Coil evaporator coil has a design flaw. Instead of being made completely of aluminum, to save manufacturing expense, it is made of copper coils with steel end brackets. I am not sure of the thinking regarding this design. This device removes moisture to condition air. This moisture causes the steel (how surprisingly) to rust, which, in turn, reacts with the copper coil, which then deteriorates and results in a coolant leak.

It is my understanding that Lennox does not make this coil but it is supplied by a sub-contractor who supplies this item to differing Air Conditioning Manufacturers, a normal business practice. These units were only supplied for a limited time period, discovered to have this design flaw and are no longer made and supplied by the sub-contractor. What I do not understand is why the replacement labor expense of this warranty item is passed down to the consumer? This is an obvious design flaw by the sub-contractor. This begs the question, are Lennox and other companies being reimbursed for this defective item and not passing this on to the consumer? Photos will be taken when & while the defective item is removed/replaced.

Got some people out to look at it and Lennox told us the unit was shot and very inefficient. We got a bid and they financed us. 3 months later, the squirrel cage rattled. It loosened up and fell rubbing. I called and it was fixed. Two weeks later, it happened again and this time the cage had to be replaced. They told me it was due to the filter needed to be replaced because of a load balance. At that time, I learned that we had to have them (Lennox) come out every 6 months to change filters. I was mad. They would not tell me how or where to get them. Forced me to call them.

Each 6 months it was a fight because it would usually cost me over $100.00. Later, I called to get a service filter and I was told my mother board needed to be replaced. I was told the great pump didn't work. As far as I knew it worked. The company charged me again. They told me we had major mildew and mold on one trip and I thought that was the reason for their fancy filters. I never heard again about the mold after showing my wife that problem, and I told her to get rid of them after they explained that it was going to cost $700 or $800 to fix the mold problem with some other product light of some kind. Then on another trip, some valve went out and it was replaced - more money.

The last trip sent me through the roof. I called them on 5/20/13 to service, and we were told that we have a leak and it was going to cost $800.00. My wife called me and I wanted to know why every time they come, it's costly. She told him that she only had the $100 for the service call and filter. The man stated that the service is already higher than that. Our old Trane may not have been energy efficient but it never cost us like this. Either we are being scammed, or we have the worst unit in history. At this point Lennox is crap.

So I had Scott's Heating and A/C dealer install two very top-of-the-line units ($23,000) and have spent over $2,000 fixing these units over the past years. They had expensive variable speed fans. The first thing that happened is the local dealer I bought from sent a tech out to adjust the fan settings because it sounded like a 727 going off in the house. The tech said they were set to factory specs and nothing more he could do (dumb dumb). I had another dealer come out and adjusted them (great job) but for another $175 to start with. Then came the vibrations with the new 410A models and they leaked so bad each year and the other dealer was adding freon each year through an inspection contract. I didn't realize it was really bad for the ozone so I never said anything to anyone until 2000.

When I did confront the second dealer, he told me he had been trying to contact the Lennox rep for three years about my units, and I knew that was ** so I told him so. Then he said he no longer would he work on my systems. Now that I look back, I should have sued both the dealers and Lennox Corp. Finally, I did get to see the Lennox rep and he was a poor example of good customer experience for Lennox brand. He basically said, "We're sorry!" In all our years, we have had several homes and many with Lennox systems, and never had any problems. So they knew they had problems when the 410A systems had been out for awhile because of the higher line pressure and vibrations. And instead of taking care of the people that paid the high prices for them, they didn't do a thing. It turns out faulty welding was the cause; and customer service said in not so many words that 2011 there were some similar problems and that's why they offer ten-year warranty. However, labor was $650 and Freon $200. Now, Lennox may be a good brand for those it's working for, but if they were really good and believed in their product warranty, they would include labor for at least two-three years. Just keep this in mind when buying an A/C unit because labor is not cheap and that cost-efficient unit may end up costing you more in the long run. Be careful when buying these units.

I purchased a Lennox AC unit from Slomin's with an extended warranty, labor and parts for 10 years. The AC compressor has failed and they all refuse to honor the warranty on the contract based on a technical issue which is vague at best in the agreements. I spoke with each company several times with no resolution. I spoke with all the departments and managers, each time getting a different response from each of them. They each passed off my problem to another company. Basically, they told me it is my problem and I would have to pay them $179 plus tax per hour to service the unit and pay for all parts which could run into thousands of dollars. They are refusing to honor the warranty written on the front of the contract. I tried to resolve this amicably but with no resolution. I appreciate any help you can give. Thank you.

Our old system (different company) worked for 20 years. New Lennox put in 5 months ago. Foul, putrid, repulsive odor from substance that suddenly appears inside drainage pipe next to system in laundry room. Never happened before. Vile and disgusting. I have pictures. (Maybe regulatory and licensing agencies should be notified.) Ice builds up in outdoor pump. The pump stops, and more recently, a loud flapping of blades against the ice. It doesn't stop, and techs have to be called several times. We are told that it needs a corrective measure / heat strip to keep interior of outdoor unit from icing up. Keeps happening. Tech comes again and says sensor is defective. They will bring a new one in a few weeks when they are supposed to come for spring inspection.

Given this short but alarming history with Lennox, I do not trust them and now feel uncomfortable in our own home. (Maybe the Attorney General's Office should be notified.) They will probably wait until it is warm and the problem will not exhibit itself until next winter. Also, this new unit does not seem to keep the house as warm when kept at similar temps as before, even though it is supposed to be a better unit than our old one. I have read - too late (after we paid $8,000 minus a $2,000 rebate) - all the other reviews here, and a class action lawsuit is very much in order. The money and energy drained from consumers for new equipment that is not performing as advertised or promised is unacceptable.

What will happen when we finally do use it for air conditioning, given all the horror stories listed here? That consumers even have to think in this mode after spending 1,000s of dollars is ridiculous and offensive. Lennox knows that all of this would happen. It has been happening even as they present themselves as experts, so they are required to know and are held to a higher standard; yet, here they are, charging thousands of dollars and making excuses when their units cause terrible problems and break. I will never recommend a Lennox to anyone. An astute lawyer or legal firm should take note of all that has been written on this site and bring a class action lawsuit.

The doctor thought I had a sinus infection but I hadn't been sick or had any drainage. Just after the five-year mark, I had my ducts cleaned and when they opened the air handler, it was filled with mold on one of the sides. After sending a chemical through the intake to kill the mold, they removed it. I contacted the company who originally installed it and they said that can happen and I could buy an ultraviolet light to inhibit the growth of the mold.

Again, six months later, I checked the handler and found mold growing on one of the sides of the handler but it has also spread to the other side. In my opinion, this model is defective and for some reason is susceptible to the growth of mold. I don't feel I should have to pay another $1,000 after having already paid over $5,000 for an elite Lennox system. I have taken very good care of this system. We called Lennox manufacturing direct first to find a local approved dealer. We're directed to Central Air Conditioning to do the said covered parts and that we would have to pay labor only as that the unit is still covered for parts only. The repair dealer just left. Today is July 20, 2012; and we not only had to pay for labor, but we were charged parts as well. We then contacted Lennox warranty services to find out how we would be reimbursed for parts.

We're told that one of the parts was not covered, even though the technician who installed a part called a hard start could not get the unit to work without that specific part. And the other part, the dual capacitor, is covered if Central Air were to submit a request for warranty replacement. We were told by the tech that Lennox charges them $50.00 just to send out a warranty part to them and so they buy it somewhere else that only charges $45.00 as that saves the customer $5.00. So a 5- or 10-year warranty on parts is a very misleading statement and should be removed from any literature that comes with their units. I will not buy a Lennox again. I'm very disappointed.

Bought a house in August of 2011, A/C goes out a week later. We had a repairman come out to inspect the defective fan motor and was replaced. Total cost including inspection was $400.00 Unit was covered under a warranty of 5 years from date of installation (1/08). I contacted Lennox seeking reimbursement and was told they do not deal with the consumer or customer. That they would only reimburse the repair company if they filed claim. Repair company didn't want to get involved because they did not do original installation of the product. Installation was not the issue, a component in the product was defective.

HVAC has major problems: coils, compressor, etc. It leaks Freon. It doesn’t cool/heat properly. It leaks in the attic. It always breaks down. In fact, it breaks down annually, sometimes 2-3 times since buying the house. The builder doesn’t want the responsibility of course. The labor costs are outrageous. I could have replaced the unit by now. Owners should get together and file a class action suit against this crappy Lennox HVAC unit.

It seams the warranty is less and the product becomes less reliable. I do not know where to go from here. If anyone has an idea, I would appreciate the help lennox is doing less and less.

We purchased a Lennox Complete Heat system that had a fifteen-year warranty on it. They decided to change it to 10 and now, we have no warranty left. Our HM30 tank ruptured and this cost us thousands in floor repairs. Now, we have no hot water, air conditioning, or heat since it all worked together. We are out in the cold, but we paid around $8,000.00 for the complete package unit with this great warranty and Energy Star Ratings. This is a joke. Lennox should stand behind their products and make things right.

This has caused us a large financial hardship. Our insurance rates went up because of the damages. We will be replacing a system that should still have years of warranty left on it. False advertising has set us up to deal with this on our own.

Our HVAC contractor, Stadtler Heating and Cooling, recommended the Lennox Complete Heat for our remodel/addition. The design was a failure and after several complete replacements, they substituted with another company's product (Heat Transfer - first, the Voyager and then, the Phoenix--both are failures). This site makes you select a rating for my overall experience. I tried 0 stars, but it's not a valid selection. It's too bad there's not an option for negative stars!

In ten years time, we have had five units fail and are now on to the sixth! Lennox and Stadtler and Heat Transfer do not stand behind their products longer than the warranty from the installation date of the original product! Our HVAC contractor, Stadtler, will no longer provide us HVAC services even though none of the system or product failures were due to negligence or lack of maintenance (none of them were ever really operational, long enough to have needed maintenance).

I guess that's the way it is now--no pride of workmanship or expectation that their products should last longer than the warranty period. Now, we're stuck footing the bill for a replacement system that entails a separate water heater and boiler system (no option to change back to conventional forced air system without ripping out walls) at a cost of more than $10K.

At 9:15 AM, George came out from Oak Island to work on the Lennox heat pump and found a bad suction valve to heat pump--changed out circuit board and discharge sensor, coil sensor and AMB sensor. We're going to have the 4th one installed on the advice of Lennox. The freon was lost. The solder came apart. We were told by the contractor that it's okay to run for long periods, running up to 11 hours straight. He said that he has a heat pump. We asked him if his runs 11 hours straight. He made no comment. We told him that he could trade and hear that rattle on the side of his house all night. We paid for vents to be adjusted. What a joke! We were told that wrong duct work was installed that's why it doesn’t work.

When we called our home builder, we were told that there's one of the same size in same home that never had this problem. Then, Lennox sent a fresh set of eyes, yet another heating contractor, not Lennox. He advised the correct duct work (maybe?). But he said that we need a new thermostat, since it's a Honeywell not a Lennox problem and we have good equipment. Well, why doesn't it work?

I am glad this guy feels reporting back to Lennox. We have good equipment. That's the way to go I guess, since our warranty is up this summer and stretching us out closer to warmer days. So, we will not know if it's fixed until next winter. I have never seen such a scam in my life! It's no wonder people give up and just pay for a new system. They missed days of work and experienced being treated like a complete idiot by these people. I hope that they are on the receiving end of this one day. I had a Lennox heating and cooling system installed on 8-15-08. Problems with the insulation, the copper coil, and freon leaks are unacceptable issues for a relatively new machine. The system was installed by Del Air. Alex, from Del Air, came out to service the air conditioning on 8-5-10. He showed me the insulation on the interior wall of the indoor model # CBX32MV060. The insulation was completely separated from the wall and was being sucked against the air compressor--blocking air flow and machine function. Worse, I am concerned about the insulation fibers my family has been breathing in as a result of this. The air filter in the house was changed by Alex. The air filter was significantly dirtier than it has ever been. The color on the filter resembles the insulation fibers from the Lennox indoor machine. I have saved this filter in the event it is needed for proof of any kind.

Alex, from Del Air, glued the insulation down and then braced the sides with bars. He showed me a picture, on his phone, of another local customer with the same model Lennox. The insulation was torn from both sides. Alex told me it is a common problem with this model Lennox. He had the picture in the first place because he sends the picture to his manager from his job site.

Further, as he proceeded to service the machine, he called to my attention a freon leak and said I need a new copper coil. Alex and I had communication breakdown at that point and he said he would be back the next day with his manager--that was four days ago and I haven't heard from them yet. I am concerned the Lennox model is a lemon and I would like a replacement-preferably a different brand.

Limcan Walker employee Marlon arrived at my home for a maintenance visit. My wife was home and let him in to do his work. He asked her to turn up the heat on the thermostat so that he can perform a limit test. My wife was on the phone but she estimated that 5 minutes passes when the smoke alarm went off and smoke started coming out of the vents.

She went upstairs to open the windows but due to the thickness of black smoke, she could only open 1 window before she had to come downstairs and catch her breath. She lets the barking dogs outside into our backyard and went back upstairs to open more windows. Again she couldn't stay upstairs for long as she is inhaling smoke and has trouble breathing. Eventually she opened all 4 windows upstairs and turned on the 2 exhaust fans in the bathrooms. She also opened the downstairs windows and turned on 2 exhaust fans downstairs.

Marlon told my wife that the a-coil has burned because it was mounted too close to the heat exchanger, and that we will need to purchase a new one for $1100. He also told us that our heat exchanger is cracked and that we will need to get it replaced. He said that the heat exchanger is covered by a warranty but labor cost is not included - that will be $837. He said that the heat exchanger has probably been emitting CO for several days. (We have a CO detector and it has never gone above a reading of 0).

I came home from work right after this happened, but when I arrived Marlon had gone and left a quote for the replacement parts, as I mentioned above. The notes say: "furnace has a cracked heat exchanger above the bolt" "a coils drain pan is burned and melted away" "price to replace heat exchanger is 837.00 and a coil is 1100.00 plus taxes of 5% furnace left off". Marlon did not leave any maintenance report from his visit. We had prepaid for the maintenance visit by credit card.

I called the Lennox Consumer Affairs line and he was shocked at what had transpired. He told me that the service company should be completely responsible and that a limit test should not allow the temperature to get high enough to melt the a-coil. He said that the a-coil should be rated for at least 500-600 degrees and that the limit switch should prevent the temperature from getting too high. It would not matter where the a-coil is mounted. He recommended that I call Lennox customer service to resolve this situation since this was a Lennox owned but independently operated service company. I left several messages for Customer Service to call me regarding the situation.

Tuesday March 23/2010, I spoke with Lennox Customer Service first thing in the morning and she assured me that she would get working on this issue. I received a call from Ian **, general manager at Limcan Walker. He wanted to come and see the furnace for himself. I agreed to meet him at lunch time, since my wife did not want to be there alone with anyone from Limcan Walker. Ian arrived with an employee Richard. They inspected the furnace and a-coil. They looked around for the crack in the heat exchanger, but could not find a crack.

He said that although there was no visible crack, they recommended to replace the heat exchanger due to the fire. He said that when the limit test was performed, the blower is turned off to simulate a blower failure. But when Marlon had performed the limit test, the limit switch had failed, causing the temperature to go too high, which caused the a-coil to catch on fire. He said the location of where the a-coil is mounted is irrelevant. When I asked if there was any safety mechanism to prevent this from happening when a limit switch fails, he said no. In his opinion the procedure was followed correctly, and he did not admit any responsibility.

I mentioned to Ian that I had spoken with my home insurance company to let them know about the incident. He made another offer: $2200-$2300 for a brand new G61 furnace. This would include the cost to replace the burnt a-coil. I would have to pay to clean out the ducts (and carpets, etc., if necessary) myself. I spoke with my insurance company again and they advised that if I file a claim, they will make sure ducts, carpets, etc. are cleaned and assessed by a reputable disaster cleanup company.

I paid for an inspection by a local heating company that evening. He inspected the furnace, and tested the furnace's operation. He was able to start the furnace and blower, then he performed a limit test. His report states: "Removed 'heat' motor wire from board to simulate a failed main blower motor --> started furnace --> furnace ran normally but with no main blower for approx. 3min then shut down on limit after approx. 3 minutes." So it is evident that the fire must have been a direct result of negligence on behalf of the Limcan Walker employee.

Also, it seems apparent that every attempt was made to make me pay for a new furnace instead of accepting responsibility for the incident. I have requested from Lennox/Service Experts: Proper cleanup of ducts (and carpets, etc. if necessary) by a reputable disaster cleanup company. Replacement of the a-coil. The furnace to be replaced or repaired so that the condition is as good or better than before their visit. -a refund for their maintenance visit.

Existing furnace: Lennox model 90UGFA3-75-6, serial number 5801J17717 A-Coil: 2-ton R22. Soot in the ventilation system - from burnt a-coil (plastic material). Smell of plastic in the house (mostly upstairs). A-coil completely destroyed Furnace condition unknown - possible replacement needed.

I purchased a Lennox G50UH-60C furnace in December of 2007 under the guidance from Econo Air that this was the top of the line furnace. Immediately after installation, we began to hear a fairly loud running noise each time the heater was turned on. I had Econo Air come back out with in the first 30 days to check the unit and they indicated that there was nothing wrong with the unit. In December of 2009 the noise that was being generated each time the heater turned on began to get louder and louder over the next 60 days until February when it stopped working all together.

When I called the installation/service company out I was told that the blower wheel and blower holders needed to be replaced. I was told the parts were under warranty and needed to be ordered. After waiting two days, without any heat, for the parts to arrive, I received a call on the day the parts were to be installed telling me that the labor associated with this install would cost me $575! They of course would cut me a "deal" for $290 if I signed up for their 1 year maintenance plan.

I contacted Lennox Consumer Complaint Department to express my frustration that I would be responsible to pay such a large amount of repair money when the unit is just over two years old. They were of not support and simply indicated that I could file an official written complaint to their Corporate Office.

Other than having to pay for the labor to install a part that was defective from the manufacturer, the most frustrating thing is that the service company wanted $575 for a job that took one man less than two hours to repair! I think Lennox and the service providers are making money off of their defective products.

I would not endorse or recommend a Lennox unit to anyone looking for a Furnace. In fact, I would not recommend any product produced by Lennox. They care about the initial sale and have not concern about the consumer beyond that. I am not sure how this company has earned the "Good Housekeeping" seal of approval!

I could not believe it when I read the note from Nicole in Souderton, PA. I also bought an XP-15 Elite Heat Pump System from C&C Heating in Souderton in April 2007 and have had nothing but problems! Transformer was replaced, coil sensors repaired, heat pack replaced, cold air coming from my heating vents in the winter, outdoor unit locked out numerous times, bad relay switch found, bad sequence from heat pack, need to replace outdoor heat pump fan. I have been on Emergency Heat since the end of December!

I have been in contact with Lennox and sent them faxes, but it appears that they do not think we have a lemon as I keep telling them I do. The money I have put out is outrageous! Lennox should stand behind their product, and at this point, all I want them to do is take it out of my house. Nicole, if only we could stand together. We should be able to do this, and if there are two of us, I bet you, there are more out there in our local area.

I installed a Lennox Elite series heating system in July 2003 and within the first month, it shut down. It has continued to shut down and run on the second stage since installation. In the Summer of 2008, we had the compressor fail and it was replaced under warranty. But as you know, this does not include labor and coolant. The total was just shy of $600. We thought this was the end of our troubles but this was just the beginning.

The next summer, no cooling cycle during the hottest months of the year. We called our service company, the original installation company, and they charged us $90 to change a filter that was a week old. This fix lasted two weeks. We have changed our seven filters in less than five months and this last hydro bill was $200 more than last year's as this unit is running completely on its second stage! I will never buy another Lennox product and strongly advise anyone who is looking at Lennox to consider other pump manufactures. Do your research--I wish I had!

I purchased a new Armstrong Air Advantage oil furnace from Reliable Heating in June 2008. The following is a sequence of events related to poor service from Reliable Heating and a defective furnace from Armstrong: 1) On Aug. 15, 2008, fuel oil leak was detected at the filter assembly. 2) On January 27, 2009, after only 3 months of operation, a service call was needed to address the cause for black soot being spewed all over my basement.

    3) On Feb. 3, 2009, the furnace was overheating and oil was accumulating in the burner chamber from a post-cycle drip. A service call was again required to fix this. 4) On Nov. 9, 2009, the furnace would not fire. Another service call was required and a new relay was ordered. This time I had to pay a service charge of $97.50, which was $19.50 for 15 minutes of labor and $78.00 for diagnostic charges since my 1 year warranty had expired. This didn’t seem right since in actual operational terms, the furnace had only 8 months of service (the furnace is not used from April to October).

    5) On Nov. 9, 2009, the service tech replaced the relay. But the real problem was the primary control assembly which was eventually replaced. Also, I now have to keep a piece of newspaper under the oil nozzle to soak up the fuel oil leakage (safety hazard? I tend to think so!). I wrote complaint letters on Nov. 11, 2009 and again on Nov. 20 to Reliable Heating and contacted Lennox (Armstrong’s parent company) on Nov. 18 by e-mail. Reliable never responded and Lennox refused to help me resolve this issue. All I asked for was reimbursement of the $97.50 for a service call that didn’t fix the problem and for a 5 year extension of the warranty on the furnace to cover both labor and parts should this furnace fail again (which in my estimation is very likely).

We purchased a Lennox HPX15-60 High Efficiency Heating and Air Conditioning System (heat pump) in Nov. 2005. In July 1, 2008, the condensate failed and caused major water damage to the ceiling, walls and wood floors under the unit. The company that manufactured the unit said it was not the fault of the condensate. Then what, the Lennox unit? Nobody had an answer and would not take responsibility for the failure. The company that installed the unit for us replaced the condensate at no charge but we did have to pay $525 for labor.

We also had a problem the first summer of 2007 with what the tech called "dirty sock syndrome"; when we turned on the air conditioner, it smelled horrible. He said to just let it run and the smell would go away, that took all day and into the next. Each year since that, we have a mild case of the same smell for hours after turning on the air conditioner. The coils are checked and they tell me they are fine and not buildup of algae is on the system.

Now, here it is December 30, 2009 and we have no heat. The system has failed again. Only this time, I am told it is a circuit board or sensors. I refused to pay for these replacement parts, the unit is just 4 years old. I was told by my tech that they contacted Lennox and told them they need to cover these parts. I am still waiting for the parts, and will have to pay for the labor to install them. I think this is so unfair. Why should we have to keep paying labor and damages from this system? Why can't companies back up their products with full replacement and labor costs? I was told this was a top of the line system. Ha! What a fabrication.

I am so unhappy with this system. It has never heated properly or cooled properly. Our home is only 1800 square feet and it takes more than an hour to cool or heat. We live in So. Ca and it should not be that difficult to heat a home this size. I will never buy another Lennox product and if anyone asks me about them, I will discourage them from buying their products.

Hello and thank you for your help. I moved into a new home on 5/2/2006. Within the first year, the AC failed and was serviced by the subcontractor (not Lennox, the product maker) and was left in running condition, but sounding like rocks in a blender every time it started. 2 weeks ago, the unit began acting up again, popping the circuit breaker every few minutes. I contacted both the sub-contractor and Lennox this time. Each expected me to pay for a service call, just to come look at it. I felt that I should not have to pay for service on an obviously defective product. The sub-contractor (Red Rock Mechanical) was kind enough to come out, check it and not charge me.

He checked everything. Again, could find no reason for the problem and suggested that I replace the breaker. I did that and it seemed to run until today. The breaker popped again. I turned it back on and the AC unit exploded! All the coolant leaked out and now I am without AC in Arizona, in summer! I called Lennox and Red Rock. Again, Lennox told me to contact you! Apparently, they hold no responsibility for their product and feel that I must file a complaint just to get satisfaction?! I don't understand this illogic, but here I am. Red Rock at least called me back a few minutes ago and is going to try to contact a Lennox rep (this was suggested by Lennox, I don't know why it is Red Rock's problem when Lennox could just as easily have sent someone!?). Again, more illogic!

As is my luck, it seems obvious to me that I got a lemon AC unit! Dying within the first year, sounding like rocks in a blender, dying again and popping the circuit breaker and then exploding!? Not normal! Lennox should be held accountable! Thank you!

On inspection (March 18), they advised us that they could get it going, but that it would fail again as the Tank was cracked. On April 24, the tank ruptured, flooding the Furnace Room, scalding my wife’s feet as she ran in to turn the system off, and damaging items stored in the Furnace Room. I contacted our HVAC company to ensure that the correct steps had been taken to isolate the water supply.

The System is still under warranty, however no spares (which are supposedly warranted) still exist for this system. Lennox had offered to supply us with a Polaris System (which from comments on various Consumer sites has its own issues) to which on the advise of our HVAC tech was never designed to couple to our system, would need thousands of dollars of "after market" equipment for it to function, plus considerable re-plumbing - all at our expense.

Is there no longer any Moral and Ethical responsibility left with this company, because the ongoing impression I get is that once the system is installed, "We accept no responsibility for the poor design?”

They warranty the product for 5 years but in reality the product should be good for at least 15. (I am told this by both companies that came out to look at the unit). The ironic problem is that 6 other residents on my street that all have the same unit have the same problem. We are all in need of a new $1300.00 e coil which happened to need replacing right after the 5 year warranty. This is not right especially since the product should be good for 15 years.

I have called Lennox and Aspen and both say the warranty is expired and there is nothing i can do. I disagree especially because there are 6 other units with the same problem at the same time.

I am confident that Lennox put a faulty coil in their air conditioning units knowing they would only last until 5 years and that many more residents in my area will have to replace this expensive coil right after the 5 year warranty is up.
