JK Mechanical technician confirmed that leak in coil (evap coil) and JK Mechanical confirmed that it's under warranty but they are asking me $1500+ for diagnose issue and replacing part... I am really very disappoint with the quality of Lennox product since it failed within 3 yrs... It didn't live at least 5 yrs... Lennox will keep on sending me parts but major question who is going to pay JK Mechanical every time $1000s of dollars. Lennox should take responsibility since it's a knows issue (leaking coil) and still they are selling such faulty product in market, you cannot just clean your hands by sending coil replacement but you should send your tech support to fix the issue.

I live in a neighborhood of some 500+ homes. Many homes have had to replace their evaporator coils in their Lennox AC systems due to the coils rusting and then leaking the refrigerant. I thought I was lucky... until last week. My first floor unit stopped cooling. Diagnosis is a defective evaporator coil after less than five years of use (some neighbors got two out of theirs). This repair will cost me $1400 and I have two other systems in my home. The class action lawsuit provides no compensation as Lennox is denying all claims. As well, the lawsuit states an owner has to have replaced TWO coils in the same system in order to be eligible for a $550 reimbursement for labor and refrigerant and also have the choice between a coated copper tube or aluminum coil.
Thank, Lennox. You'll sell me two defective copper coils before I'm eligible for a $550 reimbursement and choice between two coils that should have come with the unit initially. The only people getting rich here are Lennox and the lawyers for the lawsuit. Buyer beware. Buy something other than a Lennox for your home. Once my next coil goes in any of my three systems, I'm putting in a Carrier or Trane.

We live in Palm Beach County, Florida. We have two Lennox XC-21 systems. We removed a SEER16 system in the attic, and added ONE XC-21. We added an additional XC-21 system for our new addition. One unit was in the attic, and one unit was in the house. Today, both are in the house. Our home is 3600 ft^2 under air conditioning.
We have paid a total of $33,000-34,000 to date for install of the new systems. We did not want the variable speed units. We chose the two-speed unit (XC-21). The first XC-21 system ("System A") was placed in the attic to replace the old system. This was January 2016. Here are the problems we experienced: The system was not insulated like the old unit, and it sweat constantly. It sweat all over. The water drenched the circuit boards, and rusted out a breaker in the attic within 15 months of install. The unit sweat so bad that there was a constant stream of water dripping out the secondary (not primary) drain. This drain was in the ceiling next to our front door. The thermostat had to be replaced.
System A died about three times in three years due to random issues related to the constant sweating. Symptoms of a died system: The thermostat would go blank, sometimes just spontaneously go back on. Then, the thermostat would completely died. Black screen. Dead. We made the decision to move this unit in March 2018 from the attic to inside the house, into a large storage closet. It has been six months. We had to do this.
Current problem: The outside meter of temp and humidity is broken, and the thermostat thinks that is 66 F outside (it's 91 F). The system will not power on. System B is inside the house. Like System A, the thermostat is black. I call the company that installed and of course is all kinds of things, but not Lennox.Lennox is poorly insulated and unpredictable. The electronics are too complicated for most technicians, even in well-funded companies. Make sure that your a/c calculations are done properly!!! There is no room for error on these poor systems. I would recommend researching Doosan or another system looking to break into the market. I have heard equally bad things about Trane and Carrier.

Bought our home in 2016. Home was built in 2013 with a 2013 Lennox AC unit. Have had nothing but issues. The coil created a leak and now the capacitor is broken. Stay far away from this brand. Will never own a Lennox again in my life.

We bought our unit in July 2011. We had a service call today and learned the coils are rusted out. They are made of copper and copper rusts with the new freon. It will costs us over $1900 to replace the coils. Lennox is now making the coils from aluminum. But not for our unit. We will pay all of this money and get copper again. I would not recommend Lennox. They should be forced to give us a reduction on the cost of the replacement and they should have to design it in aluminum. The repairman told me the unit was clean and everything else was good. The coils look like they are on a 20 or 30 year old machine.

We purchased a Lennox XC21-060; CBX32MV-060, the more expensive of our purchase options. We have had nothing but problems with it. MANY repairs, including a $1200 communication board (not covered by warranty). One weekend, they had to come on Saturday and fixed one problem and then come back again on Sunday for a second problem. One problem they have not been able to solve is the AC running, but not cooling. I have to shut down the entire system and restart it. That's a problem if I am not home as it will just continue to run if I am not home. And the technicians can find no reason for it to happen. Now, we have a problem with one of our zones where the AC kicks on for five minutes, off for five... continuously... and raising our electric bill. The technicians again say there is nothing wrong with system. I've even tried contacting Lennox and they just refer me to the service company. I would never, never buy Lennox again.

Very disappointed with Lennox. Our air conditioner in our home that is just under 3 years old was not cooling correctly. We found out it needs a new evaporator coil, due to it leaking Freon. We just spent $700 to diagnose the problem, and that doesn’t include the labor to replace it. After doing research we discovered that this is a major issue that many people are having. There was even a class action suit that has since expired. However the payout was ridiculous and didn’t begin to cover damages. Lennox was basically left unscathed. If you put out a product that causes people to spend hundreds of dollars in labor to repair, you should be held liable, and make it right. What’s to keep companies from producing a JUNK product if they aren’t held accountable. I’m disgusted by this company, and will never buy their product again.

In February 2017 my husband and I closed on our new construction Lennar home which included a Lennox Air Conditioning unit, M/N CBX27UH-036-230-6-03 S/N ***. In January 2018 we placed a call to Mills Air due to our AC not blowing cold air. Mills Air came out and stated that there was some settings in the thermostat that had changed, it was corrected and the AC worked. In July, 2018 it was apparent that the home was not cooling as quickly as it should. The AC was set at 75 but the thermostat was reading 79 and didn't change for hours. We were outside of our 1 year warranty so we contacted Western Air to come out and look at the unit. The HVAC tech mentioned that there was not a gasket on the outside unit, and that there was a Freon leak, but he thought it was probably because the gasket was missing.
He filled 1.5 pounds of Freon into the unit and installed the missing gasket. Within 2 weeks the AC appeared to be slow to cool again. On July 28th Western Air came out and did a leak test. A leak was not able to be found, but the tech had to replace 1 pound of Freon. Dye was added to the system to do a leak detection test. On August 10 the AC tech from Western Air came back out and found the leak in the evaporator coils in the air handler. The reason I am writing this is because in 2015 Lennox was under a class action lawsuit, Thomas v Lennox, in regards to the same situation. From my understanding, Lennox used mixed metals in their coils which caused them to rust and leak.
According to www.evaporatorcoillawsuit.com the nature of the lawsuit was "A Settlement has been reached with Lennox Industries Inc. ("Lennox") in a class action lawsuit about whether it manufactured and sold defective evaporator coils. An evaporator coil is a part of an air conditioning system or heat pump system in the cooling mode. Lennox denies all of the claims in the lawsuit, but has agreed to the Settlement to avoid the cost and risk of further litigation."
We feel that since we have only lived in our home for less than 16 months at the time the leak was documented, that it appears that Lennox is still selling/installing units with this same issue. Our Evaporator coils were copper, as were the coils in the lawsuit. When I spoke to Lennox's Consumer Affairs Department on 8/15/2018, I asked if they still had the copper coils being produced and the gentleman I spoke to said that there are probably still some in circulation. I do not know why a company would still manufacture and provide these units to homeowners when there was such a large known issue. There are at least 2 other homes in my brand new neighborhood that have had leaks in their units already. As a new homeowner, you do not expect to have to replace the Evaporator coils on your AC within the first 16 months, just 4 months outside of the 12 month labor warranty.
I am asking that Lennox covers the cost of the labor to diagnose and replaced the coils. The original date of service was on July 12, 2018 and that visit cost a total of $119.70. On July 28, 2018 the labor and dye test cost was $237.81. We have not received the invoice for the review of the dye test on 8/10/2018 and we were quoted $527.03 for the coil replacement (minus any Freon refill) on 8/15/2018. $884.54 is what we are out of pocket for something that should not have occurred so quickly. We feel that Lennox should take responsibility of still allowing faulty evaporator coils to be installed.

On March 23, 2017, I purchased two Lennox Air Conditioners an Xc16S060-230-05 and Xc16S048-239-04 for my home that cost $18,360. I have had trouble with these units and the installer has been to my house 5 times since the installation. One unit cycled on and off the other lost Freon and neither filter door works properly. You have to duct tape them closed. More importantly the units still do not cool my home properly. I am at the end of my rope. Buyer Beware.

I bought a Lennox A/C System because the Heating and Cooling Company said that they are one of the best. After 4 years the coil was leaking coolant and the coil had to be replaced. The coil itself was covered under warranty but not the very expensive labor change. The technician that replaced the coil said he has been replacing quite a few of them and replacing them with upgraded coated coils. There is obviously a problem with the coils if they are replacing them after 4 years with upgraded ones. Also, when the air handler was opened up, the insulation above the fan motor became loose and was lying on top of the fan motor and covered the intake. If this company truly stands by their products, they should recall them or at least cover the labor.
When I called their Consumer Affairs Department, All they did was told me they were sorry and read me the part of the warranty that says they don't pay labor after 1-year. My next store neighbor bought a cheaper system around the same time I bought my Lennox and it has outlasted mine and he paid thousands less. Save your money, don't buy a Lennox!

I bought this heat pump model LR14HP30P in late 2015. It has broken twice since then and the latest with the blower motor and module, which is a substantial break. While the part itself is under warranty, the labor and diagnostics are over $400. Then there is the exorbitant and hidden $125 shipping fee for the #Warranty part that was coincidentally available the next day, which means it really was local. I am not impressed with the company, the product, and especially the rip off #Warranty fees. By the way I hung up after waiting 20 minutes for Consumer Affairs at Lennox and then called back and chose the menu to buy something and got someone in about 60 seconds who then informed me about the hidden fees. I would not recommend this product or company to anyone.

After installing in 2016 a new AC, 2 yr and $4700 later my unit needs a new panel board and motor. This is a new AC!!! Parts are covered but labor is not so will cost me $500. It's very upsetting. I wish we can really do something about these companies that only rip off people. After seeing all Lennox reviews I wish I never bought one. The company that installed them, I bet they get huge discounts for selling consumers this type of unit. A one yr labor is not enough warranty. At least 3 yrs and 10 in parts.

Serial number: 16111E07954. Model 13 CHPXA-30-230-1. Thinking about reporting this to news channel for people not to purchase Lennox. Very unhappy with products. Installing contractor A-1 Certified also told them would not required them either.

I've read a lot of the existing reviews and feel the same way about my system. Mine was new construction 2.5 years ago and it's been a hot boiled mess ever since. I've had a least 8 or 9 service calls mostly from the builder's original installer. Winters I can't keep the heat warm enough and in the summers the AC goes out. I already had to replace the compressor once and expansion valve. Some solenoid too. I can't even begin to tell you how much coolant the system has had to recharge it. They just did a full system recharge after doing a pressure/leak test.

I decided to write this review after I was just told that I need a new compressor for my Lennox heat pump. This will be the 3rd compressor for this unit which was purchased new on 4/27/12. As you can see it is only 6 years old. In 2012 I had a complete new Lennox system installed which included a top of the line XP-17 Dual Fuel Heat Pump, new furnace, coil, and the latest I-comfort Thermostat for $10,235.00. In March of 2014 (2 years) the compressor went out under warranty. After complaining extensively to Lennox, they agreed to pay for half of the labor to install. I still had to pay over $700 to have the compressor replaced. Now (June, 2018) my compressor has gone out again. It is still under warranty but again Lennox does not cover labor. Therefore, I have just agreed to pay $2100 to have the compressor replaced again. As far as I am concerned, Lennox compressors are junk and I would never buy another Lennox product again.

Labor is never covered on this product and if the builder refuses to fix it it will be cheaper to just buy a new one. Find the cheapest AC with a full 5 year warranty and a local well rated contractor. Trane has the same issues=no labor warranty so be careful what you buy and from whom.

Brand New Pulsating Furnace and A/C (Installed May 2018) - I wish I would have checked this website before I made a decision to buy a well advertised and marketed brand such as Lennox. I decided to replace my existing HVAC system which was 30 yrs old with the top of the line Lennox rather than a Japanese model which was offered by my contractor. What a mistake, the furnace didn't even work right out of the box, that should have been a red flag for me. Now the condenser coil is icing up every time the unit is turned on and the furnace is flooded with water. I hope that they will take this piece of garbage back, I'm out thousands of dollars on what I thought was a quality product, now I am in the same boat as many others here... DO NOT BUY, YOU WILL BE SORRY, SAVE YOUR MONEY! Typical marketing B.S. riding on the coat tails of a once quality product.

I purchased a 3 ton A/C Lennox model 13ACX-036-230-17, Coil model # CH33-36B-2F Coil/3Ton/Cased installed late summer of 2013. This had a 10 year warranty on it. After 15 months of use of a period of 4 1/2 summers the coil went out with a major leak. Lennox advertises they have the best coil unit. It cost me another $1600/labor to replace and the warranty covered all but $400 of the replacement part. I have emailed Lennox 3 times since May 2018, no reply. I have called twice and again today was on hold for 41 minutes then I was cut off.
The consumer should not pay anything for a unit or brand that has a warranty. All I ask Lennox for is to repay me for the labor costs, they can keep the $400 extra on the coil. I would not recommend a Lennox. It is hard to choose when you are misled through advertising stating they have the best. I read they have had a lawsuit settled for poor coils in 2016. It sure has not changed anything as the problem with their coils remain.

In July 2014 we purchased a Lennox HVAC fully convinced we were getting the best on the market. Two years later the coil was leaking and had to be replaced. Now, two years after the coil was replaced and 4 years after purchasing the unit, the coil is being replaced again. Our repairman says his company is no longer carrying the Lennox brand because of such poor quality. We have one more year on the warranty. When this coil has to be replaced, we will be purchasing another and, hopefully, better brand of HVAC. I cannot express my disappointment. Several thousand $$$ for a very poor quality product. Personally, the least Lennox could do at this point is extend our warranty.

My Lennox air conditioner stopped working 1 year and 1 day after installation. Lennox's defective components cost me $930 in labor costs 1 year after installation. They were unwilling to assist with this cost despite the obvious cause of the problem, their defective parts. Their representative held claim to their lack of responsibility as it applies to labor, labor cost (this situation) would not be an issue if their a/c unit was of better quality with a longer life expectancy than 1 year.

We have had nothing but problems since the units were installed on April 24, 2017. MCS has sent a technician out to our house on 6 different occasions, 05/02/2017, 06/17/2017, 06/30/2017, 07/09/2017, 03/19/2018, 06/04/2018 and MCS needs to come out again today 06/13/2018 to get the unit running again. Each time a MCS technician runs test, resets the units and turns it back on. Not once have they provided a solution for the problem.
The technicians are very polite and knowledgeable. They report the problem to their bosses but that is as far as it goes. A Lennox customer representative has contacted me and asked permission to access our system remotely and investigate the problem. We are still having the problem and my wife and I are regretting spending roughly $18,000.00 + for what we are told is a Cadillac model. I am totally dissatisfied with the Lennox brand and MCS the installer. I am looking into legal ways to get satisfaction. I work hard for my money and should not be treated this way. I bought my new construction home in 2015. In the first year, my Lennox evaporator coil went out due to a leak. These were the defective copper coils involved in the class action lawsuit. Luckily I didn't have to pay any labor costs as these were still covered under my home builder warranty. Now in May 2018, the second coil went out, another large leak. The part is still covered under the 5-year warranty, but service/labor/refrigerant costs amounted to over $1,000.00. I don't think I'm qualified to get reimbursement under the lawsuit for multiple reasons. Lennox isn't making this right and they continue to produce defective coils. They have no concern for the consumers. I don't know why the BBB continues to back this company when most of their reviews are negative. We moved in our new town home in April, 2010. In June, 2018, a little over 8 years, our coil began leaking freon; two different places on bottom front corners. We were told it needed replacement. At first the technician informed me it wasn’t under warranty, then later I was told (after I read the warranty) it was under warranty but labor and freon would not be covered. I took pictures of the rusted coil around all edges of coil. The coil, itself aluminum, had galvanized steel surrounding all edges of the coil, approx 1” wide. This was rusted and metal was crumbling from rust, around ALL edges. Condensation from coil and humidifier contributed to rust plus the fact it was steel, not aluminum. Was replaced by dealer on 5/24/18 with a complete aluminum coil, no steel any where, and now even tubes going in and out of coil are aluminum; no steel anywhere. Old coil is a defective product and labor and freon should be covered under warranty!!!

We had our working 25 year old HVAC system replaced with a Lennox system by FH Furr around 5 years ago. Last year when it was serviced we complained that the unit did not appear to keep up. The servicer added some refrigerant and said it just needed to be topped off. He did not charge me and I thought that we pretty nice. Once again this season I noticed it was not keeping up and when the company came to service it I was told that it needed some more refrigerant and went on to add 5 lbs at a cost of over $350.00. They suggested that we do a leak test at a cost of $220. The results showed that the indoor coil has a leak and I am now told that the cost to replace will be $1500.00.
I called Lennox and they suggested I contact their consumer affairs department. Good luck getting someone on the phone. On hold for 3 hours and still told all consultants on the phone. Our home is less than 5 years old and has 3 Lennox units. One has lost all refrigerant and the other two are low and barely cooling. The repair company said all 3 have leaking coils. It was not mentioned that Lennox has an ongoing issue initially. The coils will be covered under warranty but the labor to install and the cost of the refrigerant is not and will run approximately $3,000. I mentioned I had read about the ongoing problem with Lennox coils. The technician informed me the replacement coils will be the same defective material as the ones being replaced.
Lennox is changing to an aluminum design but not for warranty replacements. The coils we are receiving will only be covered through the original warranty period. Based on this information and the history to date I am speculating we will be having the exact same issue in about 3-4 years and be faced with an even larger bill to pay for aluminum coils, installation labor and refrigerant. Has there been any secondary lawsuits filed against Lennox to pay for labor and refrigerant costs?

I recently joined the class action settlement re evaporative coils and it turned out to be a joke for consumers. Lennox made out like a bandit, which begs the question whoever represented Lennox customers must have been in on the deal. The settlement is ludicrous. You get no relief from bearing the labor costs of your coil failure unless you’re still under your authorized contractor’s own warranty. Otherwise, you get nothing from the Lennox settlement to reimburse costs to replace the original coil.
What the settlement offers is a measly $500 against a SECOND failure, where labor could easily be $1000 or more. You have to wait for a second failure to occur on the coil again before you get that benefit from the settlement. Additionally, the first coil replacement gets an expanded warranty which is in reality a reduced warranty of five years. In my case I had eight years remaining on my Lennox unit including the original coil. Ordinarily, the replacement coil would resume whatever warranty period was left (in my case 8 years). But now I have only five years on that coil, meaning I lost 3 years of the original warranty as my reward for joining the class action. The third party managing the settlement has yet to answer my query as to how this was ever viewed as an attempt to make the customer whole again from a company’s screw up in using widely-known inferior coils.

I bought a 2 ton Lennox unit in 2011 that the installer told me was energy efficient, (it wasn't). This unit has never ran right. Loses it freon... Total frigging JUNK. It has not been ran but about half the time and most of the time it is broke down. I have called for repair 7 times. Today I decided I had enough when the labor once again is another 830.00 bill. Last month wires inside the unit rubbed together and shorted the system. Of course, Lennox will replace the parts because they're under warranty but I had to pay $500 for labor. When I called Lennox, they blamed it on the installation. I will never purchase a Lennox product again.

Licensed Sears service technician stated this is a common problem with Lennox; repair is not possible and only can be corrected by replacing the indoor air handler coil, costing over $3,300. We paid over $7,000 for this unit, and all the electric, pipes, and sump pump were already in place and in great condition, and not replaced. We are now shopping for any brand other than Lennox!

Lennox was involved in a class action lawsuit involving their evaporator coils. They settled out with consumers however, they continued to sell units with the defective coils so those of us who were unfortunate enough to purchase a Lennox after the settlement, we not only have defective units that Lennox will not cover costs for and can't join the settlement. My own two units failed within 18 months. I, too, was advised by Lennox Consumer Affairs that I should have purchased a "Labor Warranty" - and I pointed out to them that I was never offered a "Labor Warranty" - not by Lennox, not by my builder, not by the installing dealer, not by the servicing dealer.
Probably because they all knew that the units were defective and they stood to make a profit charging me labor to repair the units, while they would lose money selling me a "Labor Warranty." I do have a "Maintenance Warranty" but all that does is provide regular maintenance on the units twice a year, it does not cover the cost of replacing defective parts. I am reaching out to attorneys to see if there is a chance of another lawsuit. I would advise everyone else to look for a "Product Liability Attorney" in your area. Let them know there are hundreds if not thousands of us out here who have been ripped off.

In May, 2014 we purchased and had installed in our home 2 Lennox MS8 Single Zone Heat Pumps. We could not install a normal central heat and air system because our ceilings are too low for the ductwork. Everything was working well until August 2016 when the drain hose in our bedroom that drains water to the outside of the house backed up and water started dripping into our bedroom on to our furniture and new flooring. We were not told when the units were installed that this was a possibility and we never expected it. My husband sucked out the drain hose and placed screening over the end of the hose hoping to keep this from happening again.
After a while I noticed what I thought was mold growing in the unit that had the water backup problem. I purchased a mold testing kit and sent it in and sure enough the test results were positive for mold. I called the company and explained what had happened and that we had mold growing in our unit and was told there was nothing they could do about it because that was not covered by the 5 year warranty. We called the installer who finally came out and cleaned the unit on 8-4-16 at a cost to us of $103.50. The unit in the back room stopped blowing air at all and we had to get that unit cleaned out too. There are two air filter screens in each unit and I diligently keep them cleaned but that still did not keep the one in the back from getting clogged and stop blowing air correctly.
When the installer to clean the back unit he said that the screen filters that come with these units are pretty much useless. Wow, I wish he had told us that prior to us paying him $4,631.00 for the two units in our main house. I really wanted Mitsubishi brand heat pumps but the man that did our installation said he only had Lennox. We have a call into our installer as of today to come out, once again and clean the two units in our main house. He has not returned our call. I am very disappointed in these systems.
If you are considering getting a heat pump for your home DON'T BUY LENNOX! In January 2017 our hot water heater leaked and we had to have all our floors removed and replaced because we could not get the same flooring we had down. When they removed the bedroom flooring under the air conditioner that had leaked into the house there was mold on the floor and the water had also ran into the bathroom causing mold under that flooring also. I have uploaded the receipt for the purchase of these units along with pictures of the mold in the unit that had the water back up. Image 3062 is the mold that was under the flooring where the unit leaked onto the floor.

I bought an expensive outside unit for a new home. The unit had a rebate as part of the purchase. Rebates normally come in the form of a check which can be deposited. In Lennox case it is provided on a debit card that is only good for 6 months. The card states that it is active but there is an expiration that is not noticeable. If you don't use it on time the funds disappear and the website that I used to verify says it cannot be reissued. I saw another complaint about the 2.95 cash fee but this is more significant. In this case Lennox can reclaim rebate money that it owes a customer. Be wary and use it fast if you get one. This is a great business scheme for a business to take money that it owes back and add to their bottom line. I do wonder how many others are affected. I plan on adding this complaint to as many sites as possible to ensure that the public knows about this issue!

We moved into our new home at the end of July and two days later the AC unit quit. Two service calls later and new parts and it was working fine until last week when the emergency heat kicked on and would not shut off, the temperature outside was 62 degrees, the emergency heat should never have turned on. The thermostat was set to 66 degrees and the temperature inside the house was 73 degrees and climbing. We had to shut off the breakers once again.

The part is under warranty. However, Lennox is and will not assist in covering the cost of the labor and refrigerant cost. The unit had a maintenance program for over 3 years from One Hour heating and cooling and never revealed the problem.
I have included picture of the internal workings of the air handler. Since I was the second homeowner Lennox would not warranty any of this damage. I bought this newly-built house on Dec 27, 2013, installed with two brand new Lennox whole AC/Heating Units, one for upstairs and one for downstairs. The unit for upstairs stopped working this past Sunday, 7/16/2017. Completely unexpectedly, and without any warning at all, there was no air conditioning in the upper floor of our house, and this is in the middle of summer, so it is highly inconvenient and uncomfortable for us. We could not get someone to come out to take a look at the AC unit until the next day, and we discovered that there was a copious amount of refrigerant leaking from the condenser coil of the broken unit. Due to the complexity and length of the condenser coil, we were unable to pin down the leak, and it still requires further work. The house was brand new, and the units were also completely new, so that means this unit has broken in less than 4 years.
This is absolutely unacceptable, and as a customer of Lennox, a supposedly high-quality company, I am very disappointed. I expect better, and additionally, I was promised better. For comparison, in our old house, which was built a much longer time ago, the AC/heating system was from a small company and worked perfectly for 11 years. An old unit working for 11 years versus a new unit only working less than 4 years is ridiculous. There is a statement in your website: A life with Lennox comfort systems is as close to perfect as it can get. However, we are experiencing 85F-90F in our home at upstairs because Lennox AC unit stops working due to defect of condenser coil. I can only conclude that Lennox is inadequate and making false promises about the quality of its machinery.
We were told an estimated labor fee to replace the deficient condenser coil would be around $1,200.00. Again, this is a shocking amount to pay for such a new unit. Our warranty covers labor for only the 1st year, and parts for only 5 years. The original home builder, Pulte Company, chose the Kaiser Company as a dealer and installer. Due to the contract, I also didn't have any choice in choosing the installation company for the Lennox AC/heating system, and furthermore, I was not given the possibility of purchasing any other kind of warranty. I called Lennox customer service department and explained our situation, ask for extended warranty program, they refuse us to join now.
They don't have any confidence about their products, plus terrible customer service. They play the trick between home builder and dealer, sell large amount of defect/under quality products to home builder and dealer, the homebuilder didn't give homeowner any information about extended warranty information (10 year cover labor and parts). Later on homeowner will pay large amount money for the repairment of Lennox defect products. Lennox should close their manufacturing!! I have nothing but a good experience with my Lennox equipment. I had another company install some equipment before my Lennox equipment was installed and had nothing but issues with it. It eventually died 5 years later, and that contractor consistently told me there was nothing wrong with it. Wrong size equipment, wrong size line set, and improper air flow at the coil. Moral of the story is that the low quality equipment installed properly will outlast quality equipment installed improperly.
HVAC is one of those things where most are dependent on contractors being honest with the customer and most contractors are not. When I was having issues with my previous equipment, it was around a $100 a pop to have someone come out and look at it and give me a different story on what the problem was. I eventually had to do my own research and learn what is right and wrong when it comes to equipment installation. I ended up using a company that was being used to install equipment in a neighborhood where the homes are fairy tale. They were great. My knowledge has saved family members thousands (literally), including my own mom. I don't have a license to install, but I do know what is right and what is wrong.
A contractor that short changes the customer and installs the equipment wrong is the problem. There are a lot of variables when it comes to having the equipment work properly. Using a line set of proper size, having the right amount of cold air returns, where the cold air returns are placed, having proper airflow at the air handler/furnace, along with sizing the coil and condenser properly. All of these specs are based off of living at sea level and most of us don't. So it needs to be adjusted accordingly. Homes where the top level, (not a rambler) gets hot is due to not having proper cold air returns installed. Most contractors skimp on this during initial construction due to it being work to get returns to the top of the house, and don't put any or not enough in.
Unfortunately using a contractor that doesn't install the equipment properly is the problem, not the equipment. After having my equipment replaced at a cost of $11,300 dollars, I have had it in for 10 years with zero issues. The homeowner when paying someone to do the job shouldn't be expected to know what is right and wrong, but unfortunately that seems to be the way the world operates anymore. I have heard horror stories from people where companies have intentionally sold people new equipment when there was nothing serious with what they had. I only trust my original installer, and still hover when having a maintenance done. Be cautious when having your refrigerant checked too, because each time you do you're losing a little. It shouldn't be losing any over time.
People that are having issues with losing refrigerant it is due to a leak somewhere in the line. The line should have been tested for leaks before charging. That contractor that you trust may be your problem. It isn't the equipment. And I will say it again, low quality equipment installed properly will outlast quality equipment installed improperly.

We closed on our NEW Pulte home on Oct 11, 2011. On Aug 8, 2016 we had our first a/c issue with Lennox. The upstairs unit was not cooling sufficiently. Tech came out and recharged the unit adding 2 lbs of refrigerant. $209 service charge. On May 19, 2017 same issue with a test for a leak. $430 service charge. Go away on vacay for a couple of weeks, come back, same issue. Another call. This time no service charge. Couple of days later discovered a leak in the evaporator coil. Cost to replace $2,422.64. Really?
I call Lennox. Five year warranty. "You are out of warranty. Sorry, bye." This all started on 8/8/16, within the 5 year warranty. Is there a little man in the evap coil saying, 'hey look at me, I am leaking here!' It takes time to sort things out. Let alone the A/C season ends sometime in Sep and begins again around May. So for the five years and nine months the unit is installed it gets used maybe six months out of the year. So in essence my system is two and a half years old, not five.
Here is the kicker to all of this. The paperwork and warranty card are tucked away next to the unit. I didn't know the units needed to be registered. I have two units. Where is the second set of paperwork? I don't know... not anywhere to be found. I call Lennox. They tell me to go to **. The deadline is 2/1/16 or 60 days AFTER your original coil is replaced. Great. Is there anyone to talk to at this website? No. Do I have some questions? Yes. Is there an email address to address my questions? Yes. Will I get an answer? Well, it has been a couple of days so far and nothing. I am not holding my breath.
Why doesn't the builder leave behind a folder for the new homeowner that is nuclear orange in color. The folder should say, "Things you must take care of immediately!" In that packet is a checklist with all of the warranty cards that need to be registered. This way with all of the chaos of moving in you know you have to take care of something important. NOW!
So now I go after my builder. After all Pulte states "Over 65 years of experience go into the building of every Pulte home, and our construction standards are set high to meet expectations. When we build your new home, we follow a process that meets high standards of quality and attention to detail." Um... nope. They should say "Over 65 years of experience go into the building of every Pulte home and we have learned over the years that we can squeeze our suppliers extremely hard to meet Wall Street's quarterly profit expectations. You can count on getting mechanicals for your home that look good and will last just long enough to be out of warranty. By then we are out of the picture." So what did the builder say? Same thing. You are out of warranty.
Final thoughts. This is a great country. But unfortunately we are racing to the bottom. No one wins there. I would rather have a bullet proof HVAC system (25 year warranty) installed in my house. Yes, it will cost them more, but they can pass that cost on to me. How am I going to know how much they paid for the system? In doing so their name becomes synonymous with quality. Now... I will never do this again. REMEMBER WHEN WE BUILT THINGS THAT LASTED? Damn shame... P.S. My wife told me she didn't want to buy a mass produced house. "They will cut corners everywhere they can." I should have listened to her. I owe her that statement for the grief this overall experience is causing her.

So to replace this item was $595 in labor or $525 to repair. I really wanted to do the $595 so Lennox would feel the pain but the installer said I would probably get another lemon that had to be repaired the next year. He said it was probably manufactured on a Monday or a Friday, which had the highest failure rate.
The other unit (main house) had the coil go out. While the 'part' is under warranty, installation is $1,000 total. Had to pay $325 to find the leak. This coil was just replace last year too. I cannot keep replacing these annually. I found an installer who said NOT to buy the copper coil, only allow installation of the aluminum. They are supposed to be out this month. My installer says no. I'll be over $2,000 in repairs before this is over and probably have to do it again next year. Fast forward 3 years and our AC is acting up again. The tech said it had no freon and there was a leak. Go figure, only 3 years after replacing the exchanger, the whole copper line running out to the outside, and the outside unit... It's broke again. Lennox is crap. Never buy Lennox unless you want to replace your whole system every 3-5 years.

We had to pay hundreds of dollars to have the coolant put back into the unit just for the air conditioner to stop working the very next day. We have a two-year-old son who has a bleeding disorder and requires medicine and a lot of medical equipment to be kept in our house. We cannot allow our house to get very hot. We are fearful that even if we pay another several hundred dollars, the air conditioner is going to stop again the next day. Having this air conditioner in our home has put our son in danger because his extremely expensive medical supplies and medicine cannot get hot. Not to mention, it is not safe for a two-year-old to be in an extremely hot house.

Second summer A.C. had to have part replaced, year 5 A.C. unit had to have new motor!! Year 9 this is right now coils have a leak, not covered under warranty $3000 and next year is year 10 end of warranty altogether. $15; to 19 thousand dollars to replace both units. My husband and I purchased our Lennox Xc1403623007 air conditioner three years ago. We replaced an old Carrier air conditioner. We spent over six- thousand dollars for it. We have already experienced a leak and the protocol is for the air conditioner service people is to inject with a sealant die and then add for Freon. That cost us eight hundred dollars. I'm aware that there is a class action law suit against Lennox for faulty coils. You don't get anything back unless they change your coil out and you still have to pay for labor and Freon. What a JOKE. They only offer seventy-five dollars for a service fee and five hundred for labor if the coil is actually replaced. So, now we wait to see if the sealant works and if it doesn't it will cost us labor and freon. That will be another eight hundred to one thousand dollars. I WILL NEVER BUY A LENNOX AGAIN.

I live in Houston, TX. We have a new house in which a brand-new Lennox AC system was installed in 2011. After a repeated failure of the evaporator coil, I decided to take this issue further and write to the general public in hope that enough complaints would make a difference. In July of 2014, we had the evaporator coil burst and leak. We paid $1400 for this issue to be resolved. Just a short amount of time passed and here we go again with the same issue. Just this Sunday, the AC stopped working yet again due to the exact same issue. The evaporator coil has a quarter of an inch hole in it and the refrigerant leaked fully! We are slammed with another round of huge costs.
I called Lennox customer service and they said the part is under warranty and they will provide another coil. However, they are not responsible for the refrigerator, labor and etc costs. I tried to explain that it is not the customer's fault that a manufacturer's part failed and brought an array of costs (and not once, but twice!). I am not only talking about monetary costs, but also huge discomfort since we have no AC for the second time around in Houston and it is 97 F inside, but also transactions costs, our cost of time spent and finally huge environmental cost since leaking refrigerant is highly potent greenhouse gas!
And needless to say, I am furious. A young person trying to make a living will not settle on paying $1,400 each time this happens. A quality AC unit is expected to last at minimum 10 years. And because of Lennox' faulty equipment, it keeps on failing every 2-3 years! There is class-action lawsuits everywhere, bad reviews, but the company does nothing to mediate this problem.

The evaporator coil on the Lennox AC system in our newly constructed home purchased April 29, 2013 had to be replaced in June 2015. We learned the Lennox evaporator coils were defective and filed a claim with the class action lawsuit but never heard anything. Now the replacement (2nd) Lennox evaporator coil has failed in less than 2 years. Each time, we had to pay labor costs, which run approximately $1,000, even though the part is under warranty. Many of the homeowners in our townhouse community who have the same Lennox system have also had to replace their evaporator coils. Lennox products are defective, and the company does not stand behind their products. The system is also very noisy and doesn't cool consistently, but only the installer, who was hired by the builder could check the system, and of course, he insisted there was nothing wrong with his installation or the system.

I purchased a Lennox heating and AC unit on September 11, 2014. I have since had the company out three times for repairs. (I previously had a York system for over 21 years and had them out once after 20 years of operating fine.) The first time was because it shut off with no explanation. The repair technician stated that something tripped the emergency shutoff. They flipped it back on and went on their way. The second time was because water was leaking out of it. They said it just needed to be caulked and left it. Not even a month later it stopped cooling and water was leaking. They said, "It's a hole in the coil that needs to be replaced for $1500. The part is under warranty but the labor is not." After researching, I found this is a common problem that they have and there is a class action lawsuit due to it. Don't buy this product!!!

My first experience with Lennox equipment was good. I purchased an a/c(XC13) unit from them in 1986, and it has worked for 25 years without any problem. For this reason, when I decided to buy a new cooling unit in July 2011, I chose Lennox again. The dealer was Four Seasons (Bedford Park, IL 60638), recommended on the Lennox webpage as "Lennox Premium dealer". In the fifth heating season, the air-conditioner practically stopped to cool, and I called Four Seasons. They sent a technician who was supposed to determine what part was broken or not functioning properly. He came on June 12, 2017, and (after washing away some ice), measured the refrigerant (freon) pressure level, and said "there is a microscopic leak somewhere in the system; it can be anywhere". For this he took $85. He could not say what is the cause of the leak. Now I do not consider this to be a "diagnosis" at all. Afterwards he proposed two "solutions".
1. (the one he recommended) - Freon repair package for $1400.00. He would put a dye in the refrigerant, let it circulate for 5 weeks, and this was supposed to show the location of the leak, after which a leak would be repaired. This seems to me a crude and expensive solution, and not giving any certainty, that all leaks have been found or that another will not appear soon after such "repair". I would rather have them replace possibly defective parts by new one after another, till the problem is fixed. I have the warranty for 15 years for parts, labor and compressor which should cover this.
2. Temporary fix. He would pump two pounds of freon into the system ($79 per pound). He said "it might hold for several years, because the leak is microscopic'' (no support given for this claim). It seems that in this way one could keep pumping in the refrigerant without end (and paying for it). He also said the warranty for freon is just two years, so one would need to check pressure yearly to benefit from this. He could not offer any satisfactory solution and left. As many other people now, I conclude that Lennox products quality declined drastically, its warranties mean nothing, and their dealers are as good as Lennox. I am not going to use them ever, and discourage other customers from doing so.

Nearly killed us. Watch out for anything from Lennox. After we got to 16 of our neighbors having cracked heat exchangers on these units in new homes then I stopped counting. Many, many people thought they had recurring flus. Many sick kids throwing up and many even worse off people. Still hearing about sick people every week. Lennox offered to take our system away but when we told them they were welcome to come investigate at our house then they never responded. Turns out they knew about the problem as far back as February 2015 but never told homeowners.
I guess the Consumer Product Safety Commission is on the take somehow or it's politically not allowed to investigate large corporations because after a little over 2 months after we filed a report we received a letter from them saying they would not investigate. We had provided them a lot of evidence and the situation is cut-and-dried... close to 100% of our neighbors with Lennox 13GEP** had cracked heat exchangers where poisonous gases can flow into the homes. Many, many were very sick. Unfortunately, the legal system would cost $125,000 to $250,000 to try to take them to court; so, with no government agency willing to investigate, then there is no justice in America.
By the way, if you have a cracked heat exchanger then you had better check if you have "turbulators" (Nox unit, screen, baffle sometimes called). See the photo for an image of the tabs holding them there. In ours there was a known problem of these bending when hot and touching the inside of the heat exchangers and burning a hole in them. The HVAC warranty company did not bother to investigate nor repair. The North Carolina real estate legal system and the purchase contract for the new homes makes it impossible to go to court unless you are a millionaire, from what we understand. So, basically, they can put you through hell and make you sick the rest of your life because they are too greedy so unscrew the two screws needed to remove the panel and see if these are on there! My house was built in 2013 and a new Lennox air conditioner and furnace was installed. I have the annual maintenance and cleaning done on my air conditioner and furnace by the H&C company that installed it. Last Spring when the air conditioner was 3 years old, the H&C service guy found that it was low on Freon. He had to put 2 pounds into it. I had to pay for the extra Freon and for the leak test and they didn't find the leak. My air conditioner seemed to cool fine and didn't seem noisy the prior summer and early fall. So, not sure if it leaked over the winter. Then this Spring, had it cleaned and maintained again and now it is down 4 lbs of Freon. This time the H&C service guy found the leak in the evaporator coil. Again, my AC seemed to cool fine last summer and early fall and no loud noise. So again, did it leak over the winter when the furnace was running?
So, now it is going to cost me around 550.00 in labor (part is under warranty) to replace the coil when it was obviously defective from the beginning. I saw there was a class action lawsuit against Lennox about these coils in air conditioners purchased between 2007 and 2015. My air conditioner fits into that range, but the lawsuit is supposedly closed, so I am stuck paying for the labor. I think Lennox should pay for the labor thru the warranty since it is obvious that this was a bad part. I have always had Bryant and Carrier and never had any coil issues. Is there anything I can do now since the lawsuit is closed, but the faulty coils are still in people's air conditioners?

I was just told yesterday that the unit is bad and needs to be replaced. The problem is that I got shafted when I bought the unit because it used the old Freon system. I had a major leak last year that cost over a 1,000 dollars to just replace the freon. Now the coils are shot and along with the lost freon, the coils need replaced and the repair company said it wasn't worth fixing. I replaced a cheap builders unit with this one thinking I would save money on heat and air costs. It did help a little but the cost of the unit and the fact that it only lasted 14 years negated any savings at all.
Plus over the past 14 years I've put out 2,500 in repair costs. That does not include the normal maintenance of the system. I've always kept the coils clean and changed filters inside more than needed to take care of the unit. I guess that's why it lasted as long as it did compared to other purchasers. I agree with the comments written here that a Lennox unit is junk. It never worked as advertised and was expensive to repair and maintain. Even environmentally, this unit dumped 22 pounds of freon into the air. What good is an energy efficient unit if they dump their freon into the air?

The now out-of-business dealer added another vent to an already well ventilated room, much to our disagreement. We never were happy and I called Lennox customer service several times with no help. Fall was upon us in 2014 and so it was not used being used, so I stopped calling.
The following Spring/Summer we asked the out of business dealer to come several times and when he did he would always say the thermostat was fine and perhaps you need insulation added to the attic or new duct work. Even though when we had the previous a/c unit the neither the insulation NOR the venting was an issue. We went ahead that summer and added insulation but still did not reap any benefits. Numerous calls were never answered and the customer service finally reached a representative to come evaluate. He backed up the now out of business dealer and was no additional help.
Now we come to 2016 and we have the same issue with the temperature in the house being 80 when we set it on 73. Another Lennox dealer came out, who voiced being upset that we did not purchase the units from him, for 3 separate days, changed an orifice, added freon and charged us $305 for their labor. It cooled for about two weeks and then we had the problem again.
We have a neighbor who works on a/c units look at it and he put dye in the coil and found we had coil leaking. He said it needed replaced. We did not want the current town dealer to come out since he charged us parts and labor for something that should have been under warranty. Also, we found out about the class action lawsuit was on this coil, yet the original dealer installed it anyway and the second dealer never mentioned it either. Needless to say it has been replaced and now we want the cost reimbursed for what we had to give for the 2nd Lennox dealer and the new installation Customer service for this company is very very poor. The numerous calls made, I had to wait up to 45 minutes to get assistance.

As I was out of town a lot, I had my 14 year old Lennox heat pump system changed in 2010. Was afraid that it would fail while I was gone. In 2014, the air handling (evaporator) system fan motor with an electronic control module failed. I was gone but my neighbor noticed that the system was not running. The motor was replaced.
In 2016, the fan motor failed again. This time I replaced it with a motor that functioned with capacitors. The repair man told me that the reliability of the failed motor was terrible and that the capacitor motor was much more reliable, although it caused the system to have a higher SEER number and made more noise. One of big pluses of the Lennox system was how quiet it was. By putting a more reliable capacitor motor, it introduced more noise into the system. A lot more. Has anyone else had this problem? And if Lennox knows that it has this problem, why don't they fix the damned thing. I am 100% sure that I will never buy a Lennox product again.

I was told by the Lennox dealer that these were the cheap ones and I should upgrade them. We paid 10,000 dollars for them at first. Then put in another 4500 in 5.5 years. Horrible product, do not buy Lennox systems. My unit is in Tulsa, OK. It is 48% humidity on a 97 degree day outside. My inside humidity is 68% and unit is set to auto with humidity set for humid climate. This unit will work to try to get to 75 degree F with 68% humidity INSIDE with 48% out. Have new filter, unit was cleaned and serviced. It only gets home to 77 degrees F.
The variable speed cannot handle the service it is seeing. Additionally the heater can take far too long to raise temperature from a lower day setting. This unit looked good on paper, but does not work in the real world. Fins are too tight together to ever work efficiently after a short time in service. Filters are over 100.00 each!!! No other filters meet the exact Lennox sizing, or didn't when purchased. I have dogs and change 4 times a year. $400.00 plus just for filters.

NOT GOOD. This unit was installed by a certified Lennox technician. This is a 5 ton system that was installed in a new home November 2014 and went into service January 22,2015. There was not a dealer around that would offer warranty on labor. It is efficient but the money you save on your energy bill every month, and then some, goes back into service calls and repair bills. The TXV has went out twice, Lennox sent new ones under warranty but it still cost me $345.00 each time due to shipping of parts, service call and new freon. There is a problem every 4-5 months with this system and is costing a lot of time and headache. Love the thermostat features though.
Now, 19 months later it needs a new blower motor and circuit board in the air handler. I have never written a review before and I'm doing this to save everyone from wasting their time and money. I am trying to spread the word to every person I know about how crappy this Lennox brand is. I promise that Lennox will see a drop in their sales in Halifax, Va because I know a lot of people around here and I'm spreading the word and I have proof of every time it fails.
This product is total junk and that's probably the reason there's a big lawsuit in the courts now on this model. Ask any of your local HVAC Technicians what they work on the most and what brand they would recommend before you go out and invest $1000's on a unit. Do not listen to the rep that gets commission and sits in an office every day. Do your research and reviews first. Trust me, Sanford and Son had better junk than this!!! Their salesman Alex ** goes around showing you the big ring he got from Lennox and when I called him he hung up on me instead of being a man and trying to solve the problem but I guess his big ring means more than customers. Let's say you bought a new house three years ago and it had a new Lennox HVAC unit pre-installed. Then three years later, the AC unit started to not cool, in the middle of a hot Los Angeles summer. So you call a local AC service, and they tell you the coolant level is unusually low. Because it's a relatively new system, they suggest it's a leak and that you should have it tested. To get you through the summer, they refill the coolant at $50/pound. A month passes and your AC stops cooling again. This time, you call Lennox and they recommend a certified Lennox dealer to do the maintenance. You ask this company to look for leaks. Without doing an actual leak test, they tell you there aren't any leaks, then refill the coolant for $50/pound.
One week passes and your AC stops cooling. So, you call the same company and ask them to send a technician who knows how to check if the evaporator coil is leaking. This guy inspects the coil, says, "It's fine," tightens a bolt, refills the coolant and says, "If the coolant runs out, you need to do a leak test." Frustrated, you call a different AC service and ask them to do a leak test. He performs the test, and discovers your evaporator coil has a leak. Meanwhile, 7 of your neighbors with the same Lennox AC unit are experiencing the same problem. You look on the Lennox website and see they are settling a class-action lawsuit regarding this same evaporator coil. At this point, you've already spent over $1,000 on coolant, tests and tech visits, but your AC still doesn't work.
The temperatures in L.A. are averaging 92 degrees, and when it goes up to 99, you check into a hotel so your 3-year-old daughter can sleep at night. Lennox refuses to issue a recall and denies there is a defective part. In my particular unit, it turns out, the evaporator coil may not be made by Lennox, thereby voiding the 5-year manufacturer warranty on this particular part. Thus, the part plus labor could cost another $1,000 plus additional coolant. By the way, a replacement for the evaporator coil is very difficult to locate, and so I wait another week in now 99-degree temperatures. A month ago, I tried to post a review on the Lennox website. Their "Consumer Affairs" division emailed back, asking for details on my AC unit and the service companies called. They have yet to offer any assistance, even after my repeated emails to them for a reply. Lennox still hasn't posted my review.

XP14 Elite Heat pump - We bought the Lennox heat pump in Oct. '08, replacing a 30 yr old GE heat pump. In the summer of '09, it lost its refrigerant. The cost to repair the leak and replace the refrigerant: $1100.00. In the spring of '12, breakers kept tripping. Cost $68.00 to replace even though no cause was found. In Oct '12 we had to replace the heat sequencer at $208.00. Still having breaker problems. Winter of '12-'13, outside unit not working. Installer couldn't find cause, called another company. They diagnosed a bad compressor. Replaced it in May '13 at $1027.00. Oct. '13, unit not working due to low pressure lockout. Repairman thought he fixed it but problems continued. Nov. 13 replaced the inside TXV - $489.00. Feb. '15 outdoor unit not working again but didn't call repairman until I could talk to Lennox.
FINALLY talked to field rep from Lennox. He came out with the repairman who said nothing was wrong and did nothing other than change the settings on the thermostat and got it to working. However, I had noticed that he had wiggled the wires in the control box first. At least he didn't charge me for this service call!!! Well, guess what... it's not working again. Paid $6500.00 for the heat pump and have already invested almost $2900.00 in repairs, not counting the extra utility costs. Am I happy with Lennox? Definitely not! Would I recommend Lennox? Never, ever, ever!!! Would give it a 0 rating if I could.

We purchased our home in 2007 in Charlotte, NC. When the economy crashed in 09 we were left with a bankrupt builder so nobody to file complaints with. Our air conditioning just stopped working. I went to look at the units next to our house and found the aluminum mesh or coils white and crumbly to the touch. I immediately called a Lennox repairman or dealer who came out and said he'd never seen anything like it and gave us a bid for a new unit of 6,000 dollars plus. I called competitor Lennox people and they said exactly the same thing. Never seen this before and said only animal urine could do that or someone sprayed chemicals on all three units. Both explanations were unfeasible and impossible. But I spent 5,000 to replace the one and braced for 2 more and a loan to totally replaced the rotting units. Then I received a postcard in the mail. A routine class action suit that I would normally toss until I saw Lennox.
After doing basic research I found the exact problem in the photos but their photos were much less damaged than our units. The lawsuit was settled without them admitting guilt and ours were purchased a month before the inclusion date on the class action, So I'm stuck with at least 20,000 of damages by a company who admitted they used the wrong stuff in their aluminum and all three dealers never mentioned it to me. What a bunch of lying thieves. Do not buy from Lennox. I have the photos but they won't give me an email address to send these to.

On July 23rd 2015 around 12:30 p.m. I was installing an air flow furnace tightening up a gas flex when my hands slipped, came forward and instantly severed the tendon in my long finger. You guys really need to do something about the sharp edge inside the furnace. I have 30 years experience and have never cut myself so severely. I've been out of work and on workman's comp for 7 weeks with several weeks of rehabilitation to go. It involves two surgeries and right now I don't even know if I'll be able to return to work. A simple strip like weather stripping on that sharp edge would save lots of injuries. And it bothers me because the deluxe furnaces have them but your lower grades don't. This is to whom it may concern. Again this is been a catastrophic injury for me and a reply would be greatly appreciated. And at this time I don't know whether to get a lawyer or not.

I have left a review on the Nordyne site, and now for the second half of the story, we come to Lennox. I had a Nordyne AC unit, installed in 2006. The evaporator coil leaked twice and was replaced twice under warranty. The third time, I chose to replace it. Because I was so busy caring for my husband with Alzheimer's, I did not do my usual diligent research, and I allowed myself to be sold a Lennox unit. And now, it starts all over again.
The inside coil, a Lennox CX34-30B-6F-2 failed after two years and four months. It has been replaced under warranty at a cost of $583 after all was done. I called Lennox, and they referred me to the class action lawsuit. And I will try to file for the max of $625, although they are asking for a couple things that are proving to be troublesome to obtain. Hopefully, they will accept the affidavit I am providing as substitute for a canceled check. My point being, there is obviously an industry-wide problem that needs to be addressed.

Hey everyone - my Lennox Air Conditioner also had problems with the Evaporator Coil. GREAT - Part was covered (less than 5 years old). BAD - Labor, diagnostic, refrigerant... of course were not covered (close to $1000 in all). Anyway, I received a post card that there is a lawsuit with a class action settlement where you can get hundreds of the labor back and a service rebate. This will not total cover my outlay but will certainly help to soften the money pain a little bit.
BTW - both the Furnace and Air Units (installed together) have given me repeated problems from the first year on and we spent thousands on the purchase of the two of them in Mar 2011. Would not go with Lennox again for either heat or air in the future. The money outlay, the aggravation of multiple visits on the furnace each year and now the Air Evaporator Coil for the Air unit has over the past 4 years cost me mega time, mega stress, loss of sleep, aggravation, loss of work, cold in winter, hot in summer. On the bright side the HVAC service person has been nice - but that does not make up for the LEMON of a Furnace and Air Systems we had installed. Buyer Beware!!! Don't buy Lennox!!!

That means I get a one month warranty on the part. After calling Lennox there is no option in place to extend the warranty with the new part either. I had several issues with this company. Me and my wife hired a contractor for a major addition to our current home. Our contractor hired Southern Heating and Cooling to install 2 new units to our addition. First problem was they moved an existing unit about 12 feet from its previous location and it stopped working. I had them look at it because they were the ones who moved it. They told me it was a busted coil on the unit, which is a fairly new unit. They told me they would fix it for $1600. I called the company that installed it and they came out and checked the coil. Guess what, there was nothing wrong with it. Southern didn't put coolant back in the unit after they moved it. The other company, Johnson's, didn't even charge me because that unit, Amana by the way, "was under our extended warranty".
The next problem we had with Southern was when they installed our 2 new units, the upstairs unit was not working at all. Never did. We called them back the next few days after they had completed the job and they said they would be out to check it. Well they checked it and they didn't even hook up the electrical to the breaker box. Guess what, they tried to charge us for labor to come out and fix their mistake. I thought when you pay for installation of a new HVAC unit, it should work when they finish, electrical hook-up included. My wife argued with them for days on the phone about the bill/charge. They finally dropped it.
We had also asked them to run the drain pipes out of the side of the house sloped away from the house, but they didn't. Instead, they drilled into our new siding and not the block and we have a constant puddle of water all over our freshly poured concrete patio that we can't even use now. Oh, and some of the water drains back under the house. I'm responsible for fixing that mess, wow. Now the units are about a year old, still under warranty, and the largest Lennox unit quit cooling. The outside unit completely stopped running. Southern sent out a technician and he looked at it, filled it up with coolant, and told me it had leaked out from the cap where he put the coolant in. I didn't think it could just leak out from a cap but didn't say anything. It was blowing cold air when he left but the next day, it was blowing warm air again and the unit stop running.
My wife called Southern again and they said they would send someone out that next day. Well, I took off work to be there and they never showed up. My wife called them the next morning and they said they would be out that day. I took off work a half day to go home so I could be there. It's now 4:40PM and still no one has showed. We haven't even received a call letting us know yay nor nay. Very tired of this run around. If all Lennox dealers are like this one, I would steer clear of Lennox, if you actually have a choice of which HVAC you choose.

We had 5 ton Lennox unit XP-19-060-230-05 heat pump, CBX32MV060230603 air handler installed in October 2008. Two years to almost the date later the compressor exploded, really did explode sounded like a cannon went off and freon shot 30 feet in the air. It would have hurt someone if they were close by. It was under warranty but I had to pay 690.00 labor and freon cost. The unit has leaked down four times since then, that could be the ** work that was done when it was installed or when the compressor was replaced. Still deal with that about every 1 1/2 years. The foil insulation inside the air handler peeled off and the squirrel cage blower motor sucked it up and blew small pieces of that throughout my duct system and in my home. I had to have my ducts cleaned out another 700.00 dollars. The static pressure was checked later and it was found to be normal. Just ** craftsmanship from Lennox.
So it was not static pressure issues as the Lennox factory rep told me on the phone. Passing the blame typical of a inferior company. I repaired the insulation myself with hardware cloth screwed to the side of the unit. Why would I want to reinstall or have someone re-install the factory foil insulation just to have it come off again and fill my air ducts with loose fiberglass. Later on the capacitor went bad on the compression. Now this week the unit was not cooling proper I called out the Lennox factory repair company that I have a service contract with, he found the TXV valve to be faulty (image that) and I paid them upfront to get the service/repairs going. This was Tuesday night and I just got off the phone and was told the part will not be here to next Monday after being told it would be here today. Lennox companies that don't stock Lennox parts. Typical Lennox nonsense.
I have had central air systems over the past 45 years that went 15 years and never had a hand laid on them. Let me assure you if you go Lennox get ready for trouble and additional expenses because of the poor craftsmanship of the product. I have never been so disappointed in anything mechanical in my life as I have in this Lennox XP-19 system. TAKE MY ADVICE AND FIND ANOTHER BRAND. YOU'VE BEEN WARNED!!

Kobie Complete replaced a Rheem 30,000 BTU (1,000 CFM) HVAC unit with a Lennox 48,000 BTU (1,600 CFM) system. Kobie Complete FAILED to properly engineer the installed system. The Lennox air handler delivers 1600 CFM through ductwork that was designed for 1,000 CFM, Kobie further reduced the duct system capacity by installing the dimensionally larger unit (further restricting the air flow). The result - extremely high noise from the registers (velocities @ 1700 FPM).
This engineering nightmare is compounded by the high air volume flowing through a 9 Kw heating coil which results in an unacceptable temperature rise (<5 deg). Although I am not the original purchaser, I am suffering from results of this improper design. According to every service contractor "the air handler cannot be adjusted more than 10%." It appears that Lennox manufactured these in such a way after the R-22 had begun the phase out and just jacked the compressors up and used R-410A. The units produce the needed pressure for R-410A but the copper system is only designed to handle the lower pressure needed for R-22 systems. Bud's first installed a Lennox heating/cooling system in our house when it was built in 2001. After 12 years of service, during which repairs increased in frequency and cost, we decided to replace the system with a new one. This review deals solely with the new system. The new Lennox system, which Bud's installed in the fall of 2013, using the existing ducts, consists of two Signature Series (XC21/SL280V) units for our main downstairs living area, and one Signature Series (XP21/CBX32MV) unit for an extra room above the garage. The total cost was $35,603 minus a $3,000 rebate.
The installation by the technicians was done expertly and meticulously. Cooling in the summer of 2014 was better than before - both quieter and more efficient. Moreover, the furnace/air handlers for downstairs and upstairs are slightly quieter in normal operation than the old ones, while the outside heat pump for upstairs is slightly noisier. But there were already problems.
In the winter of 2014, during the second inspection/tune-up, the technician found a foul odor coming from both [downstairs] furnaces due to moisture which could cause mold, and he told us that this problem could be fixed by installing Germinal (UV) Light Filtration Systems. We agreed to it, even though it irked us to pay $1,340 minus a $268 smart care 20% discount to repair a new system. This fix promptly reduced the humidity reading from 55% to 24% - and in cold winter days even lower. So the Light Filtration seemed to do what it was intended to do. However, we never had this problem before with our old system, and we had not changed our daily routine. (Subsequently, we bought two humidifiers to keep the moisture at a more comfortable level around 30%.)
When it rains or snows with temperatures falling below 36 degrees, the heat pump freezes up. It does not do so quietly: first the noise level increases as ice forms on the fan blades, and then the pump moans and groans after coming to a stop. The first few nights (yes, nights) I used hot water (via a long hose from the water heater) to defrost the pump, but now I merely turn it off and wait 'til the next morning to do so. The obvious irony is this: when we need the pump the most, it often fails. This problem never occurred with our old heat pump. One obvious difference between the old and new pump is that the old one had metal fan blades and the new has composite blades on which ice seems to form more readily. But I don't know whether this is the main problem.
All three systems use the Lennox MERV 16 (20 x 20 x 5) filter, which costs $156 from Bud's and $94 from Amazon. It's not the price difference that bothers us; we now purchase the filters from Amazon. What bothers us is this: the expandable filters which Bud's initially installed are tedious to replace, even though, as we found out later, there is an equivalent Lennox MERV 16 filter (at the same two prices from Bud's and Amazon) which can be easily replaced. Why? The only reason I can come up with is that Bud's wants to discourage customers from buying and changing the filters themselves. Why else? (However, we do like the MERV 16 filter, and need to replace it only once a year.)
It seems that these problems arise from the Bud's/Lennox business practice. Problems 1 and 2 are failures of engineering or of the use of these systems, as they are, in this region. Either way, the customer ends up paying. And Problem 3 seems to be an attempt to gain an extra profit from yearly filter replacements.

My Lennox XP-17 heat pump has been freezing up during the winter. Shortly after buying it in 2012, I noticed that the blades were frozen in place due to a recent ice storm. My local Lennox dealer installed a de-icing shroud on it with no charge. Since that time, I have noticed that my electric bill has been higher than normal during the winter months with this system that was advertised as being efficient. The heating elements on the shroud are designed to turn on at 35 degrees F. The heat pump does work well in the summer. A few days ago (Feb 23rd, 2015), the heat pump was making a lot of noise and the blades were not turning. A technician came out and found that the de-icing shroud was not working. I wonder if it ever was working in the first place. This is clearly an engineering fault of the Lennox Company. I am wondering if the snow cover for this unit will work.

In March of 2009 I invested 14k in 2 new Lennox units for my home XP-15's. This has proven to be the worst decision I have ever made. It's been 5 years and 14 repairs since they were installed. I tend to think that many repairs in that short a period of time would tend to indicate a problem with the product. Unfortunately that's not how Lennox views it.
In the beginning I tried to discuss my issues with Lennox Customer Service (oxymoron at best) only to be informed by a very nasty individual that the labor warranty was 1 year and hung up on me... By the sound of his voice I think he took some perverted pleasure in doing so. I have never bothered to attempt this again. My wife suffers from MS and for us A/C is a necessity. The units these pieces of junk replaced actually worked and were only replaced due to their age and the fear that they would fail and leave my wife in distress. I can't reapply, afford to replace these units but then again I can't really afford to keep them either. If anyone ever figures out how to hold Lennox responsible for their faulty products please post it here so we can all take advantage of your findings.

I have had my brand new heating and air unit (Model SLP98UH135XV60D-06) installed February of 2014. I bought the 'Ultimate' Lennox heating unit, 98.2% efficiency! - All the 'bells and whistles'...$10,000 worth! The condensate drain pan was cracked. It took THREE trips from a service tech to determine that the water running all over the floor might be something other than the drain tube. Three days, mind you I need to be there to let them in. Then the heating unit failed this past January 2015, it was the 'upper limit roll out switch', that 'tripped', they needed to come back to replace IT (two more days where I had to go home to let them in)-all under warranty, but it's supposed to be the best unit money can buy, and I have a total of 5 service calls on the unit!
This morning I awoke to a cold house (2/18/2105). My heating unit failed AGAIN! This time they found it to be the 'burner box gasket' was defective when manufactured, and the flame 'rolled out' of the burner box, and tripped the upper limit roll out switch once again...turns out it's not the switch that they replaced was bad, but the gasket was faulty. Biggest mistake was to hire John H. Coleman Company of Knoxville, TN to install my unit. It is now becoming painfully clear they do NOT have technicians that can correctly diagnose a problem, coupled with the poor manufacture of the Lennox unit that shouldn't be having these kind of problems!

About 9 months after installation, my condensing unit from Lennox started to make a metallic sound. The dealer returned and told me it was the vertical adjustment on the fan. The fan was "adjusted" and he left. A week later, same. The third time, the motor was taken off at my insistence and we found out that the hub holding the blades had just broken off the shaft but was still hanging on a few millimeters of aluminum. We were lucky that it did not decapitate us as we opened it up while still free wheeling. The dealer took it to the parts center and no replacement was available. We roasted for 2 weeks then the fan arrived. Lennox said they'd put a credit through and sold the contractor the new fan. The contractor never got the credit, these folks are thieves. Lennox, never again!

I had a new Lennox residential gas fired hot water boiler, (Mod # GWB8-075E-2) installed by our local Lennox dealer on Dec. 3, 2014. Problem #1...the tech. informed me that the temp./pressure gauge was not working at all and they would have to order a new one. Also had to order LP gas orifices for the burners due to being unable to adjust for proper flame using the natural gas ones that came installed with the boiler, due to the fact that we have oil lease gas as our main supply.
Problem #2...on Dec. 22, 2014, I placed a call to the dealer stating that the boiler was firing up (heating) more time than when it was not. I checked the water temp., at the first section of the line coming out of the boiler that had an air bleeder, by filling a cup with hot water and checking the temp with a digital instant read thermometer that read 155 degrees. He sent a tech. over who raised the temp. high limit that was set at 180 to 205 degrees.
Problem #3...on Dec. 31, 2014, I called the dealer to advise him the boiler quit working (not firing up). The dealer came and worked on it approx. 1 hr. and got it running. He had cleaned the pilot burner/ignition sensor. Problem #4....on Jan.8,2015, I called the dealer for the same problem as problem #3. Tech. cleaned the sensor again. Problem #5...still no temp./pressure gauge or orifices.

My home came with a Lennox heating and air conditioning system. It is now ten years old and the heating system failed. The part required for repairs is in IL and I am in PA. My HVAC repairman said it would take two days to ship it here and I could pay $120 extra for expedited delivery. This is absurd; Lennox has NO interest in customer support. I could complain that it broke rather early but I am mostly pissed that they do not have regional parts depots. It is below freezing all this week and my home runs the risk of freezing pipes because Lennox just doesn't care.

My furnace is only three years old and needs a pressure switch already. Clearly, this is a significant issue given the comments on the internet. Lennox should be forced to recall this furnace and replace these parts for free. This is the worst furnace I have ever owned and will never buy a Lennox again. The cost to replace this is not cheap and totally absurd for a switch that takes seconds to install but reports are that Lennox is at fault. This company should be sued!

Two and a half years ago I had my 22 year old A/C heat pump replaced with a $6,000 Lennox unit. Ten days after installation the unit quit working. The contractor/installer said there was a defective safety device which notoriously fails on Lennox units and they bypassed the "safety" device to get my unit working again. In June 2014 (barely 2 yrs old) my A/C went out - some sort of leak in the coolant line and it cost me $800 to fix it. This week (Dec 2014) the unit quit heating. The contractor said the TXV valve went out and they want to charge me $1,412 to replace the part and the coolant. Needless to say I am as angry as I've ever been about spending HALF the price of the unit to repair it after less than 3 years. My old unit lasted over 20 years before it started costing me money and this piece of junk Lennox made is only 2 1/2 years old. I would never purchase another unit from Lennox or again use the contractor who installed it.

Noticed unit was constantly running but never meeting the set temperature. Had the servicemen out and he said we need a brand new TXV and liquid line filter. It was raining outside so they couldn't fix it - something about making sure water/moisture doesn't get inside the new parts. They are scheduled to come out next week and replace the parts - of course labor is not under warranty so it will cost us around $800 to have it fixed. Unit is only 1.5 years old on a brand new house we bought last May. I am angry that we are having to deal with something like this on a new house and nobody is taking responsibility for a faulty part. Quick look on this message board and I see the same issue for many other consumers. How many other people need to report the same thing before Lennox takes responsibility?! Merry Christmas to us. I would like to express my complete dissatisfaction with your factory replacement part products. We had to have a circuit board replaced on the heating side of our unit on November 13, 2013. On November 20, 2014 the part no longer functions properly. You want to say that you have a one year warranty, but when the part of the unit was only used for 5 months at the max, and then it fails your product does not measure up to these standards. A Lennox manufactured part should last well past this one year standard as you so advertise. The stance that you are out of warranty and we can not help in any way does not impress customer support in the long run as well. I can see why your products are not used in our area, and probably will continue to not be used.
I work in the construction and property management and will be sure to inform all of my customers and owner to not use Lennox product in the future and if you have one with any problems to completely replace the unit as soon as you can. I will also post this complaint on your customer web portal / facebook accounts / and twitter feeds. Thanks again for not helping and having a wonderful customer support team that does not help in any way. Ask yourself how much did this small part cost and the hard line stance of no support past one year, was it really worth it. Completely Dissatisfied.

Unit is three and a half years old. First thing to go was the THX valve and there was an overcharge of Freon. Total cost was 816 bucks. Now, two months later, it has blown two transformers, 216 bucks. As of today, it needs a system rewire and a new condenser coil, another 629 bucks. Here I am with a unit that is almost 4 years old and have dumped almost $1800 into it for nothing more than inadequate parts and service from the maker. How is there no class action lawsuits against this company for making such a terrible product? Anyone else want to look into this or have looked into this? Avoid these units!!!!!

The coil was replaced but now, November 2014 there's no heat because the reversing valve is not operating - another ($900 plus). What happened to, you get what you pay for? The reason I purchased a Lennox product is because of its reputation, not its name.

I had a Lennox heat pump installed August 2010. Paid $6300 -- not the most expensive or least expensive, right in the middle of several quotes for different units. March 2013 -- replaced TXV = cost $795. The part was under warranty, the labor was not. The first TXV valve sent was defective and AC company thought they could charge me for TWO service calls of $795. Today I find out the evaporator coil is leaking -- that's another $775 (labor only because the part is still under warranty), includes 8 lbs of freon ($38/lb) and installation of new evaporator coil. I will never recommend Lennox to anybody. This friggin thing has cost me a ton. I should have gone with Trane. If there is every a class action lawsuit to Lennox, I want to know.

Install the XC 25. This thing has lived up to everything it was promised to be! It is super quiet, and there was a very noticeable drop in my electric bill right away. I read a lot of different issues and was somewhat concerned. However the guys that sold me the unit talked a lot about how the quality of the install can greatly impact the quality of the unit. I am now a firm believer. I would highly recommend Lennox - very great product. However I would also highly suggest you find a highly trained and recommended installer so you don't have problems that others have seen.

Thermal Expansion Valve (TXV) issue - Installed Lennox XC17 with CBX32MV furnace in June 2014. Upon returning from a 5-day family vacation at the end of August, noticed that the unit was running constantly and not cooling. Service came out the next day and informed us of known issue with the TXV. I spent more than I should have ($10K) for the unit and installation based on their sales pitch which touted the reliability of Lennox with proper, professional installation. This is the first issue which has come up. Now I see that we may expect many repeated problems with Lennox. They are pointing the finger at a "sub-tier supplier" which changed a processing chemical for a part which is causing the TXV to fail. That supplier has reverted back to an older version of the chemical. It all sounds like passing the buck to me. They should have already recalled those units which were impacted, and pro-actively replaced whatever parts needed to be replaced. Just stay away from Lennox. Pay attention to the available reliability reviews. Don't be taken in by a slick sales presentation.
