My Kitchen Aide Gas Stove back guard shattered while I was preparing dinner on 5/15/08. I have contacted Sears where we purchased the stove about 7 years ago. This is safety issue.
Sears gave us an estimate to repair this defective stove;$473.51!

We purchased a K/A dual fuel range model #KDRP407HSS11 about 1.5 years ago when we re modeled our kitchen. We have already had to replace the liner underneath the gas burners. If ANYTHING spills over on it, it will not clean off. Even if following the cleaning instructions. The appliance repair man that came to replace the first on said If it happened once, it will happen again. I have a service business and am in quite a few houses every day. Not to long ago I had a customer how had the same range only several years older. She had never had this kind of problem and her liner looked as if it was new. She uses the range everyday!!. So now, a less than 2 year old range needs another liner under the gas burners.

In 2000 we remodeled our kitchen and replaced the old appliances. We purchased a KitchenAid Superba double oven unit. The style matched the other new appliances and we had a KitchenAid mixer which had performed well for many years. We hoped that the oven quality would be equal to the mixer.
Shortly after the unit was installed the interior light quit working. After a service call and a wait for parts the transformer was replaced and the lights again worked. A short time later the lights went out again. Rather than go through the hassle I went to a local store and purchased another transformer. When I purchased the transformer the salesman commented about the quality of the original transformer. . Two KitchenAid transformers lasted slightly beyond the warranty period while the one I installed continues to light the interior of the inoperable appliance.
The ovens never seemed to cook properly and did not appear to reach the proper temperature. Due to the hassle and lack of accomplishments through prior conversations the company was not contacted.
We decided to try the automatic cleaning feature. After completing the cleaning cycle which could not be adjusted for anything other than four hours, the display began making different noises and erratic displays appeared in the screen. We contacted KitchenAid who advised to turn the power off for a few minutes. Nothing changed until the power to the oven was turned off for two days. The oven never properly completed a self cleaning cycle.
Approximately one year later we ran the self cleaning cycle again. This time the heat escaping from the top oven destroyed the plastic control panel. Since that time the ovens will only cook at 350 degrees and none of the other features operate. Local repair shops advise that the replacement display is expensive and if it does note solve the problem the parts cannot be returned. It was suggested that a repairman be called in an attempt to diagnose the problem. The ovens never performed up to our expectations and it does not seem reasonable to continue to put money into such a low quality product with an expensive price tag. If only I had encountered this web site prior to buying the ovens.
No economic or physical damages have resulted. The only consequence is having to deal with a kitchen appliance that is often needed but never works properly.

Our KitchenAid built-in electric oven, model KEBC101Kss06, was part of our new home that we purchased October 19, 2006. In mid-April of this year (2008) I ran the self-clean cycle for the first time. After the cycle was complete, the oven would no longer heat. I called KitchenAid customer service and, since the oven was more than one year old and out of warranty, they told me I would have to pay for a service call and repairs. Service was performed the following week (April 28, 2008) by A&E Factory Service.
The repairman told me the high temperature of the cleaning cycle caused the thermostat to stay open, and that this was a known problem with KitchenAid ovens. He replaced the thermostat and convinced me to purchase a separate thermostat fix part that would keep this from happening again. To his knowledge, there had never been a recall nor had KitchenAid ever made the thermostat fix part available free of charge to correct the problem. He had also told me this failure occurs when the full self-clean cycle (rather than the short cycle) is used and recommended I only use the short cycle. However, the full cycle is the default setting. Since this repair is only covered for 90-day warranty, he advised that I run the self-clean cycle again as soon as possible.
Total cost for repair was $154.00 labor and $53.40 parts ($207.40). If this was a known problem there should have been a recall/free repair provided by KitchenAid. It is my understanding that this problem had already existed for several years by the time we purchased the oven with the house. At the very least, the cycles should be changed so that the default setting is not the extended cleaning cycle that is known to cause this problem.

The hinges on my KitchenAid slide in oven have failed for the 3 times since I purchased it. All repairs were out of warrenty and kitchen aid refused to do anything about it. This problem is caused by a design flaw in the hinges. Kitchen Aid claims no other customers have this problem. By reading on line I see this is no true. It is terrible how companies can continue to product inferior products and go unchecked. You can't even sue them in small claims court in New York because they are not located in this state. They are worse than gansters these companies and should be treated as such.
I had paid over $450 to repair a product that was never designed correctly. Since my oven door has no worked properly on my occaisons the cabinets next to the range is also damaged to the tune of $350....

We purchased a new slide-in KitchenAid gas range in August, 2005. Right around the time the one-year warranty expired, we tried to use the self-clean feature on the oven for the first time. In the middle of the cleaning cycle, the front control panel went out, leaving the oven door locked and the oven useless. After quite a struggle with KitchenAid, we were able to get the oven repaired. It was the same problem many others have cited -- overheating of the thermal sensor.
Tonight, we started the self-clean feature for the second time (OK....we don't cook a lot...), and the very same thing happened. I agree this is an obvious design defect. And it should fall under some implied functionality warranty. If a company is going to sell something as self-cleaning....and charge the consumer more for that feature, then that feature should function as advertised. If it doesn't, the product should be recalled.
Loss of time from work, loss of use of appliance for several weeks. This time, there will be a cost of repair or replacement.

I bought a new home April 30th, 2007 that had all kitchenaid applicances. February 2008, my husband was baking and heard a loud noise and upon opening the oven there was a fire. The temperature in the oven became so hot that it burned a hole the size of a quarter in the bottom of the oven.
I contacted KitchenAid and a Maytag repairman came to my home and deemed the oven unrepairable. I was asked to contact Kitchen Aid, which I did as instructed. The oven model that I have no longer comes in the color that I have in my home (Bisque).
The only option was to accept a new oven in stainless steel or black which does not match any of my other appliances and would not compliment my new home decor. Kitchen Aid is less than consumer friendly. My only choice is for to receive a pro-rated buy-out and give them back their oven, which is definitely not a problem.
The issue is as of today, I have not received a refund and I have talked to multiple employees at KitcheAid, constantly having to repeat my issue. Today, finally I am told that a check will be mailed in my name to a company that will bring the check to my home and take the oven, which of course I don't want or can do anything with.

The Kichenaid superba wall oven has a serious design flaw. The thermal fuse goes every time you turn on the oven self-cleaning feature. The fuse costs some $45 with shipping and the oven needs to be taken out of the wall to fix it, another $60 if I don't do it myself. I would have expected kitchenaid to have better designed products.

In 2004 we completely remodeled our kitchen, using a contractor of stellar local reputation. He recommended Kitchenaid appliances. We spent over $5000 on a smooth-top stove/convection & conventional oven, side-by-side refrigerator, and dishwasher. Prior to this, our only exposure to Kitchenaid was countertop small appliances. To say we have been horribly disappointed is an understatement. The top of the cooktop has eroded along the edges, even though we have scrupulously followed their recommendations for cleaning, using appropriate products. The oven door allows drips to run down the INSIDE of the glass, which makes it constantly look dirty. There's no way to get inside to clean it. The larger burner only works on ONE temperature - which is high, making it useless for delicate cooking. The ice maker constantly breaks. The refrigerator filter light is constantly on change even though a new one was installed just days before. The temperature of the fridge will not moderate. It freezes lettuce in the crisper, even though it is on the warmest setting. The dishwasher is rusting inside, even though appropriate soap, etc. has only been used. No one responds to our queries. Perhaps, Mr. CEO Jeffrey Seigel, will be considerate enough to do so.
We will have to replace the stove at a cost of $1300+. When the rust decides to totally do in the dish washer, we will have to replace it. Same for the fridge. Kitchen aid markets itself as high end. It is more like low end.

I purchased the KitchenAid Electric Range Model #KERA807PSS01 on Dec. 18, 2007. This range has been a nightmare as is dealing with KitchenAid/Whirhpool. First they tell me that this range was sold to someone else in 2006 and it was a scratch and dent so therefore it has no warranty. I bought this range new at a local appliance store that I've dealt with before. The oven won't cook and when it did it took 2 1/2 hours to bake a simple pan of brownies. KitchenAid tells me, oh well that's how long it takes to bake brownies.
The other day I went to open the oven door and it's locked and the control panel tells me it's in the self cleaning mode and the door is open. I did not touch anything on the control panel. It just turned on by itself. I have been on the phone with KitchenAid/Whirpool for 3 weeks now. They have sent out 2 repair men just to tell me that they can't repair the stove without having to order several new parts. One repair man told me that from the looks of the range from inside it looks as if it had fallen down a flight of stairs. The stove is not even 3 months old yet. The appliance store I bought the range from is having trouble with their rep trying to get me another stove. They keep telling him that this stove was sold to someone else in 2006 so therefore they (KitchenAid/Whirlpool) won't fix or replace the range.
I can't use the stove because the oven door won't unlock. It keeps turning on the self cleaning all by itself. I have a 3 month old stove and can't use it. I am out $1,200.00 and can't get help.

I bought 4 KitchenAid products when I remodeled my kitchen in 2005. So far the microwave stopped heating anything so I had to buy the extended warranty and have it fixed. Then the control panel on the front of my convect oven model KESA907PSS00 stopped working. On Friday I went to shut my oven off and the good old control panel wouldn't allow me to shut off the oven...had to shut it off at the breaker. It was really convenient having to cook Easter dinner and running up and down to turn the breaker on and off. Each time someone comes here to fix these appliances it takes weeks...first to get an appointment, then for the diagnosis, then the part has to come and then the repair man has to come back. We own a KitchenAid double wall oven. On 2/16/08, when I used the self cleaning button, the entire oven died. I had a local oven repairman come to the house to fix it. When he called KitchenAid to get information about parts and the history of this oven, they would not help him.
So I used a KitchenAid approved repair company. They came to my house a week later and said that a fuse in the wiring harness of the oven was blown. I was asked to pay for the part, which I did, and was told it would be shipped to my house withing 10 days. It is now March 22nd and I still have no part. The oven repair company is unable to obtain the part because it is on back order. The date of arrival for the part has been pushed back 3 times.
There is obviously a big problem with the design of this oven. I have tried to discuss it with KitchenAid but they do not think this is a common problem or that there is a defect in the oven. They are unwilling to help me in anyway since my oven is no longer under warranty. Since KitchenAid does not recommend any oven cleaners to be used on the oven, it looks as though we have paid $2000 for an oven which cannot be cleaned.

We have a KitchenAid Superba Double Wall Oven that we purchased way back in October 1999. The first problem we had was in April 2000 when we attempted to self clean this oven. We got the same Power Failure code that many others have received when also trying to self clean this oven. The computer had to be replaced; at this point we were still under the initial warranty. Then, in October 2000, I once again attempted to self clean, and once again the oven had a nervous breakdown. The technicians once again replaced the computer. Since then I mostly manually clean this oven as I do not like to be without an oven while I wait for my appointment with the technicians. I also have purchased the extended warranty, renewing every three years, for I live in fear of the oven shutting down completely.
My problems with this oven do not end with the self cleaning. For a period of maybe 5 years, the lower oven door would not close all the way, prompting a close door message to flash and the temperature never would get to where it should be. Technicians came and taught me that I need to put a dish towel in the door, close the door to manipulate the hinge, and then the door will close. I cannot tell you how annoying this is. Finally the technicians ordered new hinges and the door closed...for about two weeks. Then I was once again receiving the close door message, using the dish towel trick and pulling my hair out.
This oven cost $2300 back in 1999. This is no joke. Finally on the third change of hinges, the door successfully closes. In about 2006, the oven started making a terrible loud noise when on; the noise emanates from the fan. No one had been able to fix this yet, but it is difficult to think while the oven is on due to the racket. I sympathize with all of the other writers who have been tortured by this oven.

Interesting that when I went to this website, I immediately found a complaint very similar to mine! We purchased a KitchenAid Electric Double Wall Oven in 2002. Within 2 or 3 years of our purchase, we found that every time we ran the self-cleaning feature, the oven would no longer turn on and heat. In our case the problem seemed to be a thermocoupler of some sort. We had the oven repaired at least once under the warranty, and at least twice since then. I complained to KitchenAid, saying that I felt that if we could not use the Self-clean feature, in my opinion, it made the appliance technically inferior. Besides being expensive to repair, the process is always a lengthy one. First it is a matter of getting a service person to check out the problem. Then the part has to be ordered. Then he has to come back to make the repair. I believe that KitchenAid will not take responsibility for their shoddy appliance because if the word gets out, they would have a deluge of complaints of a similar nature. I will never buy another KitchenAid appliance if I can possibly avoid doing so.
Fortunately there are enough other brands to choose from. The company adds insult to injury by refusing to acknowledge that there is a problem and by giving the consumer a total brush-off by cowardly hiding behind the excuse that the warranty has expired. It seems obvious to me (and apparently a number of others!) that KitchenAid ovens have a design flaw. An oven that has a self-clean feature should be able to withstand periodic self-cleaning cycles. The fact of the matter is: over the duration of owning the oven, we have used the self-cleaning feature fewer than twice a year. If the company considers that over-usage, that tells you something about the shoddy workmanship and design of the product. I will attempt to seek satisfaction from the manufacturer; but if my experience will be anything like it has been in the past, I can expect, once again, to be immediately dismissed and brushed off.

I purchased a Kitchenaid convection oven/stove in Aug. 2005 from Sears. In April of 2006 I decided to self clean the oven and part way into the cycle, the front panel went blank and as the door was locked, there wasn't much we could do other than to pull out the unit and find the problem. It happened to be the T-O-D,a thermal overload device. I assumed this was a safety feature of the oven and the oven must have gotten too hot and burned out the thermal unit.
We ordered another one from a local dealer who services Kitchenaid appliances and everything was fine until I decided to clean the oven again the other day and the same thing happened. I contacted Kitchenaid and related the problem to them and after putting me on hold for some time she informed me that she had contacted quality control and they had no reports on this problem. I find this hard to believe after getting on the internet and reading numerous complaints about the very same problem. I'm at a stalemate. What can I do as a consumer to force Kitchenaid to admit they have this problem and address it so I don't have to start cleaning my self-cleaning manually?

Five years ago we had our kitchen gutted and remodeled at a cost of approx. $40K. We bought top of the line KitchenAid appliances. Last week the light bulb apparently burned out in our KitchenAid Superba microwave oven. I could not even see where the lightbulb was inside, and looking at the User manual found a diagram of where it was supposed to be but still couldn't see it. I called the 800 number for KA product appliance repair and was told a Technician would have to come out and take a look at it. The minimum service call would be $72.00. The Technician came out a few days later, took a look at the microwave and said he would have to order the lightbulb; and the minimum charge for parts and labor to replace the bulb would be $207.00 (which did include the original $72.00 for the service call). The bulb itself was $35.00.
At that point, having already committed to the $72.00, I approved the work order for the replacement. The Technician came out yesterday and in order to replace the lightbulb, had to pull out the entire built-in microwave oven from the wall and get to the lightbulb from the outside top of the microwave. Talk about a stupid design for placement of the light bulb. When the Technician finished replacing the light bulb and pushed the microwave oven back in, he scratched our custom paint in two places on the wall. I just e-mailed KitchenAid about this and called the Repair 800 number, but I'm not expecting much of a response. I have already warned three friends about this and will certainly not recommend KitchenAid products to anyone.
I now have two areas of the cabinet around the microwave oven that have had the paint damaged. I'll have to have a painter come out and touch it up, but I don't expect that it will match exactly since the cabinets were painted originally five years ago.

After reading all the complaints about KitchenAid oven failures during or after clean cycle, and all the multiple failures of the same type, and customers being charged over and over for the same fix , I must say something. Yes, there has been an ongoing problem with these ovens for around seven years. I should know because I have repaired many. The failure on the first models required a modification kit called a blower kit. During the high temperatures of the clean cycle, hot air escaping out of the oven cavity through the door seal is sucked up by the fan that is supposed to cool the outer cabinet. This hotter than normal air causes the thermal safety to open. This model did not have a fuse at the control board . It did have a thermal fuse on the back of the oven, left of center. If this model failed, the controls still worked but would not bake.
The fix is to replace the rear thermal fuse, replace the blower motor with a larger blower, replace the door seal, which is usually hardened, disassemble the door and add another piece of glass, and install a shim kit on the door hinges. When you need an appliance fixed, call around to some local businesses like real estate agents [for referral], plumbers electricians. Don't just pick some one out of the yellow pages. Most of the multiple repairs are because they were not repaired right the first time. Don't pay for anything until the job is done. And don't call Sears.

I paid $269.00 to repair the oven as the latch assembly had to be replaced because the part melted due to the intense heat of the cleaning cycle. I contacted KitchAid and told them that this had to be a design flaw as that latch assembly never should have been made of plastic. They informed me that they were not aware of this problem. They refused to pay for the repair bill and offered a one year warranty on the new part. I now clean the oven manually because I feel that this could potentially be a fire hazard and I don't want to be paying $269.00 every time I clean the oven automatically. I will never purchase a major KitchenAid appliance again.

New Kitchenaid KEBC 207 KBL 05 built-in double oven (purchased from ApplianceSmart while the house was under construction) cannot be cleaned without disabling a thermostat. Then ovens won't operate. Has been repaired four or more times. The last two times, the company offered different fixes that would supposedly stop the problem. Just cleaned the oven again and now not operating. A repairman told us that this has been a common problem with this oven. We have just scheduled another service call. The representative told us there is no law requiring them to replace the oven. The fixes included removing some insulation to allow heat to escape and extending the fan time after cleaning until heat can dissipate. Of course they have to replace the thermostats each time also. I wonder if these fixes are even safe. Both of the double ovens do the same thing when cleaned. Why would they not recall this model?

I purchased my Kitchen Aid 01/23/2006. It was model no. KGRA0806PWHOO, a gas convection range. I had to have this range serviced 16 times in the first year. When I contacted them about replacing the range, I was stone walled by Ms. Diane Perron, who was not at all sympathetic to the troubles going on with my range. She finally agreed to send me, without charge, another one-year service agreement. If the stove broke down in that year, I was to get a new range. Because it has broken down over the weekend and Martin Luther King holiday, I could not reach her. I too was cleaning my range when it overheated and burned out the mother board. The oven will not open, it is totally useless. Other service calls were for not being able to shut the oven off, the fan to cool the oven would not run, the range top kept cracking, when the fan did run, it made so much noise that I could not hear the television in the kitchen, and the bell for the timer went out. The mother board needed replacement 2 times.
This time when I do get a hold of a repair man, I am sure the mother board will need to be replaced again. From reading the complaints on this stove, it is sure to happen again. What is the sense of this? I am ditching this range; it will not cost me another penny; I refuse to get another warranty for it. Besides the aggravation of having an appliance that does not work half of the time, waiting for the repair man, then waiting for the parts that most likely will be back ordered, I am out the initial cost of the stove, $1200. It is not worth the cost of another warranty, because of the design flaw that Kitchenaid refuses to acknowledge.

I purchased KA Gas Range Model KGRT607 in April 2003. Since then I've had the following problems: oven temp sensor broke and required replacement; gas burner ignitor would not stop clicking and required replacement; glass backsplash shattered, spreading glass all over the cooktop; and now the oven glass window has shattered. This range model is defective and every call I've made to KitchenAid has resulted in their standard response: every problem is a usage problem, (i.e., my fault not their designers). I was told that I shouldn't be surprised that the glass backsplash broke, afterall it was glass. When I asked why a warning wasn't included with the stove, the reply was: don't you know that glass breaks? Now that the oven glass window also has shattered, I plan to replace the oven before it injures someone. Rarely have I encountered as irresponsible an attitude as that of KitchenAid toward the defects of this range.
I plan to sue in small claims court for the costs of repairs and replacement. Fortunately, no one was injured. I have photographs of the shattered glass and even a bag full of the diamond-edged glass shards that could have blinded one of my children had anyone been near the stove at the time. I wish I could warn other mothers to avoid this product.

I purchased a built in double oven unit KEBS278DSS11 for my kitchen remodel in 2001. I had their products in a former home, and they had worked for 30 years. So I felt confident. However, since installing them, I have had to replace the hinges in the doors at least once each year. Every time they tell me that the doors are too heavy; but the hinges have been redesigned, and every time they break--usually during the holidays when I really need the ovens. This November I had the lower hinges replaced, and by December they totally failed, and the door won't even close anymore.
I called and scheduled another service call. Fortunately I purchased a service contract on the oven and dishwasher (which also fails constantly), but I still have to pay the $50 service fee each time they come out, plus take time from work to meet them when they check out the problem, then come back with the part to fix it. I have contacted Kitchenaid about it with no reply. The ovens work great, when they work. I am close to replacing this unit completely. I will never buy Kitchenaid again.
Constant service calls at $50 each time, and lost time at work waiting for service mechanics.

4 years ago we bought a new stove top, wall oven, refrigerator and dishwasher. We thought we were buying the best.
My oven door smokes up and has to be taken completely apart to clean the inside. Their response to that was, It has to be something in your home.? The repair man says that they all smoke up and there is nothing you can do about it. There was a wall oven in the opening before and the window in it was not clouded. They did replace the door to try to resolve the issue but it smoked up the very first time I cleaned it too. It is still smoked up. I can't see into my oven without opening the door and others can see it is dirty.
They replaced my refrigerator because the interior cracked. Thank you for that, but the icemaker has been repaired 3 times and replaced at our expense once.
My stove top had a burner burned out and replaced. They took care of that. I worry about when the next one blows out. I saw the bill for the element and it was over $100.00 just for an element replaced.
My dishwasher has had 3 repairs done on it and it is now broken again.
I went on-line to see if there were any tips for us to be able to repair these expensive "best there are" appliances. I had better luck with the used appliances that I bought for years before we could afford to buy all brand new top of the line appliances. Crazy huh?! I have been so disappointed and think it is crazy that we have had one problem after the other. You can't tell me that is normal. That is how I found this site. I wished I had read it before I bought Kitchenaid.
I bought Kitchenaid appliances because they had the longest warranty. I assumed that meant that they had a great product, not that I would need to use the warranty over and over and over again. It has become embarrassing to call the repair man.
It is a shame that Kitchenaid no longer is touted as the best there is. I will personally be inclined to go with G.E. next time. I was leaning that way a little when I first bought these. While the warranty lasted they took care of it. Except they never resolved my smokey and streaked wall oven door issue. It is ridiculous to have to pay through the nose for extended warranties on products that have had problem after problem. It would be smarter to throw them out and start over with a new brand.
I don't know where to take it from here. It is time consuming and frustrating to be without the use of appliances while you are trying to coordinate when the repairman can come, and when you will be home.
Needless to say, these are the last Kitchenaid appliances we will ever buy.

The rod that locks the door travels from the front of the oven door all the way out the back of the oven and bends up 90' do protrude through the plastic catch attached to the lock solenoid. It appears to me the rod becomes so hot during the cleaning cycle that the heat transfer's through the rod to melt the plastic catch on the solenoid. The repair company are very familiar with these ovens and told us the metal used in the hinge mechanism is defective and they have been repairing these defective parts consistently.

We replaced our oven 6 years ago with a top of the line "architectural grade" Kitchen Aid electric oven. Every time we use the self-cleaning mode, the oven will not heat up for use. We have replaced the bake element every time we want to clean it. We cannot clean our oven the way it’s supposed to be used without an expensive repair bill to remove it and replace the element. This has been going since purchase and we paid $1800.00 for this oven!

I bought my stove KESI901PWH00 in June 04 and it has broken every year since. The first time the oven would not shut off. I had to program the timer to get it to shut off. By the time you get A&E to come out and then they have to order the part it can take 2 weeks being without an oven. The next year the blower went. I notice that my front burner wasn't working right. It was wired backwards. Today my oven won't work.

My oven, approximately 10 months old, smelled as if plastic was burning in the oven. It burned my eyes and set off the smoke alarms. I checked the oven for possible problems, but I saw nothing. I had not yet used the self-clean cycle. When I tried the self-clean cycle, the smoke and fumes were horrible and I had to shut it off.
I had a "technician" out today. It was obvious he did not really know what he was doing. He tried to convince me that the smoke must have been something spilled on the oven floor. I kept telling him it was not a food smell, but a plastic or chemical smell. He agreed that he smelled it, but assumed it would burn off in the clean cycle.

If web posts are correct, problem is a thermal breaker that trips on self-cleaning cycle (too hot, or breaker is insufficient to the task), but the oven is now a $1400 piece of junk. I have inquiry out to KitchenAid; we'll see, but again, if web posts are accurate -- they will blow me off, as they've experienced this or similar problem now for a year or more.

My husband and I purchased kitchenaid appliances which included a 5 burner cooktop, double oven, microwave, dishwasher, compactor and front load washer and dryer. To date we have had to have the fan replaced in the microwave, the fan tightened in the double oven, the washing machine developed a mildew smell and we were told by the technician that this happens because water sits in a pan or line so he told us we had to throw a cup of bleach in every few months to prevent the smell from coming back.
The trash compactor has had numerous problems and has required a technician to come out several times. The first time the door got stuck shut and they couldn't get a technician out here for several days. Keep in mind there was trash in there and the smell was terrible. He repaired that problem and less than a week later the fan stopped working. He repaired that and shortly after that the solid pack wouldn't work. The techinician had to replace the motor. Shortly after that the bottom lever to turn the compactor on wouldn't work. He repaired that and now the compactor is turning on by itself when the door is closed and makeing a loud noise upon completion.
The technician is coming to look at that today as well as my front load washer as it has started to leak. I beleive it is rubber gasket but won't know for sure until the tech gets here. The biggest problem I have is the fact that now this is starting to cost me money. When the appliances were under warranty it was an inconvenience but free. Some of the warranties have expired and I have had to purchase extended warranties knowing these appliances are constantly breaking. We purchased kitchenaid with the thought of high end dependable appliances.
I feel that I have been forced to purchase extended service contracts knowing that the appliances are constantly in need of repair. The alternative would be to pay for the service calls and repairs and I feel that would eventually cost me more than the warranties. I should not have to purchase extended service contracts or pay for service calls and repairs because of the poor quality of their appliances.

On October 20th I received delivery of a KitchenAid dishwasher (model#KUDI02FRSS), microwave (model#KHMS155LSS) and oven (model#KGSS9077SSS) from Jem Appliances in Whippany, NJ spending over $3000.00 on KitchenAid products. That evening I went to use my new oven and found that it did not work, received an error code F3E3 (meat sensor probe). Since it was a Friday, I now had to wait until Monday to contact KitchenAid. When I contacted KitchenAid first thing Monday morning and asked them to replace the broken stove with a new one. They told me they could not do so and would send a technician.
They also informed me they could not set-up the appointment for me so I had to call A&E Factory Service myself. The technician came on Tuesday, October 24th says he needs to order a part which will take 5-7 days to arrive. While he was trying to fix the oven he also scratched the stainless steel control panel. Once again my husband calls Kitchen Aid customer service and this time speaks to Marilyn a customer service supervisor. He again expresses his unhappiness and requests a new oven but is told we cannot get one. If we want a new stove we need to write a letter to the executive offices, she would not give us a phone number. Marilyn tells him she will try to get the parts sooner.
Once they arrive we need to call A&E Factory Service to send a technician out again. As for the stainless steel control panel part that was scratched she has no idea how long it will take to get this part since it seems to be out of stock. Once she knows when it will be in she will give us a call. We will then need to call A&E to set up an appointment to have that replaced.
Please keep in mind that I have now been without an oven for 5 days and I have two small children to feed.
After never hearing back from Marilyn I call customer service to get an update, I am told she is unable to speak with me at this time. I am told by the rep that the oven part will be sent out today (Wednesday) and I should receive it by Friday. They will have A&E Factory Service come on Friday to replace the part. The control panel should arrive to them by Tuesday or Wednesday the week of Oct. 31st and once it arrives they will send it to me. I should have by the beginning of the next week and then I can call A&E to replace the part. The best they could do was say they were sorry for our inconvenience and offer us a $50.00 gift certificate.

I purchased a Kitchenaid wall oven/micro oven combined unit (model #kemc378kwho). I had a similar problem in that the fan blades on the oven came in contact with the housing causing a squeal like a jet engine taking off. After 8 months and 5 replacement fans, they replaced the entire oven. Now, I have a problem with the meat probe. There is this option where I plug a probe into the oven and put the other end into a roast. I set a temp and the oven turns off when the probe temp is the same as the entered temp. I have never used the probe but the oven says the probe is plugged in. I have tried plugging in and then removing the probe; I turned off the power at the circuit breaker; and I tried to clean the jack where the plug plugs in. Kitchenaid will only schedule service at this point. I asked for repair manuals and they are not available. I cannot afford service at this time but I need a working oven for Thanksgiving.

We bought a KitchenAid convection oven and stove over a year ago. After 1 month out of warranty, I wanted to self clean before going on vacation. I used the quick clean cycle but an hour into it the whole oven shut down. There was nothing on the digital panel and the oven door was sealed. I had used the self clean normal cycle months before with no problem. Anyway, it has been 4 repairs later. Each time the oven works great but when I self clean the blower, thermostat, and sensors go out. Now I have to try and deal with KitchenAid since this seems to be a design flaw or just a lemon. In mid-2004 I purchased a KitchenAid Architect series combo oven/microwave. When the light in my microwave burned out, I could not figure out how to change the bulb so I called service for help. I was told a technician must come out and change the bulb, owners could not! I asked about charges and was told the minimum charge is $65 and maybe more depending on how long it takes to change the bulb.
No where in the sales literature or the instruction manual is the owner advised of this apparent design flaw. While this seems like a small matter, taken on the whole, it is huge - a technician and a service call to change a light bulb.

We called KA but were told we needed to go through a repair company, which we did, 5 times now. Apparently KA and the repair company say this is a fixable issue and they continue to send the repair guy out to fix it. The oven will work until I clean it again.

We were so excited about our new Kitcheaid gas stove when it was delivered. But then we found that the most powerful burner, with up to 15,000 btus, took over half an hour to boil a kettle of water!
A service tech couldn't figure out the problem, so we ordered a replacement. We thought all was fine, but then the oven portion failed to work properly. The oven heats up to the desired temperature, but fails to maintain that temperature. So after half an hour, what was 475, is down to 200 - leaving uncooked food.
I called once to fix this and thought everything is fine, but now it is happening again. It is so disappointing.

This factor can cause one's house to burn down when gone unnoticed. It should take a positive amount of preasure to turn it on .I would think that a company with such highly trained engineers can rectify this defect.

Kitchenaid's service was unacceptable during their warranty period..the oven should have been replaced then....and now i am at the mercy of the warranty company as to the repairs and i am having to contiinue to purchase the extended warranty to over a $2500 oven that has never worked and i cannot afford to replace. I avoided autocleaning since this seems to be the factor that most often preceeds the breakdown of the oven. I have had to hand clean it. HORRIBLE product...HORRIBLE service.

I'll just add my statement to all the others. My 2 yr old Superba stainless steel, expensive Kitchenaid model #KUD501DJSS0 is a piece of junk! We have had at least 15 service calls, replaced the door seal twice, the electronic control panel once, unjammed the grinder twice, replaced the nonfunctioning heating coil, the inside metal door panel, etc etc.
Today I ran it empty with a cleaning solution and afterwards found thick gummy debris caked around the runners and baskets. I almost think it's unsafe to use, on top of the fact that the dishes are never completely clean and need rewashing. Sears claims it's Kitchenaid's problem and Kitchenaid gives out standard replies, so I don't expect to get any compensation but I want to let people know NOT to buy this product---it's worthless!

I purchased a Kitchenaid Convection Oven freestanding range from Sears in mid 1998 (Model 666KGRT507 FWH1). It was expensive. There is apparently insufficient or no gasketing at the front edge electronic/burner control panel on this model. In early 2004 approximately 1/2 cup of water spilled on the cooktop surface during cooking. Some of the water made it to the front of the cooktop, ran to and flowed (seemingly unrestricted) under the raised edge of the front of the cooktop.
This caused the electronic control board, housed just beyond the raised edge, to short and burn out. A repair (new circuit board) was done at a cost of $435. Less than 2 months later, a much smaller amount of liquid (approx 1 tablespoon) made it to the front edge. I could not apply a dishtowel quickly enough. The liquid almost instantly wicked under the front edge and began another short circuit. Stopping the liquid prevented a complete short circuit. Some of the oven control functions were lost.
I contacted both Sears and Kitchenaid, at least twice, fully explaining what happened. They would not help except to offer another repair at my expense. I opted to use the stove (the burners still worked and the oven worked in some modes). Yesterday I tried to use the clean cycle on the oven. Big mistake. The oven overheated to the point the glass cooktop shattered. The stove is a ruin.
I think this particular model has a major design flaw or a gasket, which would prevent this problem, was left off in the original manufacture AND not installed as part of the repair. I am now forced into the position of having to purchase a new range. It will NOT be from Kitchenaid or any product from any brand produced by the same manufacturer.

The light in the oven of our 10 year old kitchenaid stove was connected to the main circuit control board without a fuse. We learned that the fuse had simply been bypassed with a wire. When a light bulb became loose and my husband tried to remove it, the bulb separated and it caused a direct short to the circuit board and destroyed the whole board. Total loss of function for the oven and the visable control area (lights, timer, programs) resulted.
The cost of a new board in Canada is close to $500. so it is not worth repairing. Has this design flaw been corrected? Kitchenaid offers no assistance in this matter.

About a year after that the control panel wouldn't work and had to have another service call. About a year later I had to have a spark modulator replaced when the burners continued to pop and snap for hours.
Now here we are about a year later, it's Christmas Eve 2003. I cleaned it, you know having company and all. The burners started to pop and snap and continued to do so for hours. I read my book and it stated that it probably got wet. So we tried to dry it out. Then for no apparent reason the snapping stopped but now two of the burners in the off position would not go off. We can't disconnect the gas because we are having 20 people over for dinner that I have to prepare in this oven. We have no other choice at this point other than to let the burner burn.
Two days until someone can come out. I can just imagine how many times I will hear that my burner is on. What a nightmare. I too bought this stove because of the KitchenAid reputation. Never again. I used to have a KitchenAid dishwasher about 25 years ago. It was the best dishwasher I ever had. When we moved I insisted on having another one and got rid of the one that I had. That was a mistake and so was this stove. What happened to this brand. They really went downhill.
