In 2009, we remodeled our kitchen and we went to Steele's Warehouse in Butte to look at appliances. We wanted a good quality and because we had heard good things about KitchenAid, that is what we looked at. After doing some research, we decided to purchase our entire kitchen appliances and to go with the KitchenAid. The first month we had our dual fuel convection range, the lights went out in the oven. We called the recommended service tech and he replaced them. A short time later (approx. three months) the lights once again burned out, and again we called the tech and he once again replaced them. At that time, the oven also was not working and he said it needed a new motherboard and replaced it. Now several months later once again, the stove is not working and once again the lights are out, again.
We bought the recommended extended warranty only to find out you have outsourced it to a company that will not cover the stove under the warranty because it could have been a power surge? I will never purchase another product from the Whirlpool company. Because if you can't fix it, what is the sense in having it? We spent $3,300 for this stove and can't use it. What do you recommend?

After six years, our microwave stopped working. A service repairman said he could fix it for $375, something to do with the panel door message. I figured I could go without the microwave for a while. Then after cleaning the oven, the glass shattered in the microwave. Heat must have risen and too hot. The oven still works, but the glass is still getting into the oven and on the floor. Of course, this model is discontinued. I'm looking at GE as a replacement. Too bad as everything else in our kitchen is KitchenAid. I would not recommend anyone doing their kitchen with this company.

KitchenAid double gas range (model KGRS505XSS01) burner failed on arrival; knob failed after six months, not covered by warranty. (We tried to force the knob and bent the pin.) That cost $185. Another knob failed one month after warranty ran out. Estimate for same repair is $230. Stainless steel surface is stained, scratched, and discolored. I had trouble on the phone with Sears service company, A&E Services. I was on hold for an extended time as they were having technical difficulty, and eventually I got cut off. Parts available from Sears and from Whirlpool for $59 vs. $80 quoted by A&E Services.

We own two model number KESA907PSS KitchenAid stove/ranges. We have replaced two control panels due to boilovers on the range - spills or boilovers run down into the electronic control panel and short it out, making the oven features unusable. We were able to turn on the oven, but we would have to turn off our breaker to turn the oven off. KitchenAid would replace the part while under warranty, but they would not pay for the service call. Service calls were provided at over market prices of $90 per call. It was easier just to call an independent. Additionally, the knobs on the front of the stove push in and turn on if you barely bump or lean against them. We have accidentally burned/melted items that were on the burner.
This is a huge liability for Kitchen Aid I would think. We try to make sure nothing is ever left on our stove top and we check our stoves before we leave our home for fear that someone may have accidentally leaned against the knobs and turned the stove on. Very scary! I will never purchase a major appliance from KitchenAid again. I have smaller appliances for KitchenAid that I have not had problems with.

KitchenAid Model No. KDRP467K 36" Architect Series Dual-Fuel Range. The rotary control was set to bake at 350 degrees F. At 12:30PM, I placed oatmeal cookies on a cookie sheet (metal) into the oven preheated at 350 degrees F. At 12:37PM, the oven began to smoke. We checked the setting and temperature, attempting to open the oven door. It was locked and the oven was apparently in the clean mode although the controls were clearly not set to clean. I shut the power to the range off at the breaker panel. The range took two hours to cool. We have never used the self-cleaning feature.

I just spent $165 for yet another service call to replace the latch on my KitchenAid range that was purchased in July 2006 from Builders Source in Albuquerque, NM. This makes a total of almost $500 spent on repairs to a range for which we paid $1,346. This was the third call and the second latch for the oven door. The technician noted that the door hinges, replaced in November 2011, need replacing also. The oven door would not shut; it is losing heat and it couldn't maintain temperature and could not extinguish the light. Then, it would not open. All of these are safety and performance issues. There is no response to emails and calls to KitchenAid's "customer service.” Builders Source offered a discount if I want to buy a new range, but I don't want to shop for major appliances every 5 years. I don't want KitchenAid's unsafe, over-priced, and unreliable junk in my house either.
In addition to the range, the handle fell off my KitchenAid microwave, the compressor failed on the refrigerator, and the latch, springs, and door failed on the dishwasher. There was a time when an appliance’s longevity and dependability relied on being well-made, and buyers weren’t saddled with purchasing extended warranties. Until retailers like Builders Source insist that manufacturers stand behind serviceable appliances, consumers will be deluded and disappointed with shoddy merchandise and choosing between which brands will provide the least trouble and expense. I expect that KitchenAid will continue manufacturing unsafe, overrated products and unresponsive, uncaring service until their once-respected reputation and the retailers that push these shoddy products disappear.

I have had 4 control panels replaced on my KitchenAid stove. When the 4th one went, they tried to convince me to replace it again but I refused. They then offered a "deal" to give me a discount on a new stove. To end the problem, I agreed and guess what? Two months and control panel problems. Their products are defective and the service reflects the products. Do not buy KitchenAid or Whirlpool! You will be sorry.

I have a KitchenAid double wall oven, convection on top. While running the self-clean on the top oven for the first time, the oven door glass shattered about 1.5 hours into the cycle. There is a near identical complaint on this website. KitchenAid will cover the part, but not the labor. I had shattered hot glass all over my kitchen floor because it slides out the bottom crack. It got into the bottom oven, shards come out every time I open either oven, even though I tried to vacuum in the cracks. Really KitchenAid?

We purchased two kitchenful of appliances, one was the Pro Series. Within a few months, the enamel on the KEBS208SSS top oven began to pit and chip away. KitchenAid sent out a new oven. We were happy. We should have known that this could potentially happen again. Meanwhile, the microwave computer board went out after the warranty date and it would have cost nearly as much as a new one to fix. The hood over the range has had issues with needing replacement bulbs, only to find out that this time the fuse connector was burnt. "Too bad the warranty period is over and good luck," said the KA agent.
Last week, I noticed that my replacement oven was showing pitting and wearing away of enamel once again (blue enamel). The KA agent was kind enough to tell me I was probably using it wrong and that I was supposed to clean up the large spills before running the cleaning cycle. I might add that a piece of the foil I used to line the rack for the large spills fell to the bottom of the oven and is now permanently attached to the enamel. I have not used the cleaning cycle in fear it will cause more damage. Again, the agent told us there's nothing KA can do and maybe search for an enamel repair kit and good luck with getting it resolved. I am shocked by KA's attitude and lack of support.

I purchased $12,000 in appliances a year ago during a remodel of my existing kitchen. Since day one, the commercial gas stove has been a problem. I had more than five repairs and every time, it would start something new to go wrong. One afternoon, I thought I smelled smoke and when I turned around, the entire electronic portion of the stove was on fire. After extinguishing the fire, I called the distributor and was told Whirlpool will replace the stove immediately and we will cover the expense of the installation. That was seven weeks ago, no stove, so phone call from Whirlpool, no reciprocation for my patience.
Yesterday, I was told that it is probably back-ordered. ** Whirlpool, my house could have burned down if I had not been there and yet seven weeks later, I am still waiting? Never again will I buy another Whirlpool product and especially KitchenAid. I'm still without a stove in a $50K remodeling job. I have called an attorney so don't bother with a phone call.

Last year I remodeled my kitchen & all new KitchenAid appliances were installed - to the tune of over $16,000. The 36" single wall oven alone cost over $3000. After I used the clean function (for the first time) - the oven wouldn't heat. They sent out a repairman who fixed it. A few months later, I used the clean function again (for the 2nd time) - same thing happened. And now, 1 month after the warranty expired, it's happened again. Same problem all three times & yet after a long call to them today, KitchenAid refused to do anything! In a year, I probably used that oven less than a dozen times. Needless to say, I won't be recommending them to anyone. And btw, the repair service they sent obviously didn't know what they were doing, because as I now know, the problem was never solved.

I have a KitchenAid Double Oven Gas Range. I read up on the oven before purchase and my purchase was due to the high ratings it received. I love the double oven, but I am very disappointed with the stainless steel stove top range. I consider my self pretty careful with my appliances, but taking care of the stove top is ridiculous. It scratches easily and within weeks of use, brown stains have formed around the burners which will not come off. Of course, you cannot use abrasives and stainless steel cleaner does not work. This oven is only a few months old and I planned on having it for a long time especially with the price paid and being a KitchenAid appliance which is known to be a reputable name. I am at a loss, I am hoping KitchenAid will stand behind their name and do something to make this right.

I have had problems with my KitchenAid gas range right out of the box. I purchased it for $2500 about 4 years ago. Just after the first year, self-igniting elements failed, so I phoned "customer service" - the worst customer service I have ever experienced! In short, a $500 repair bill to have a tech repair the problem. I have been using a lighter ever since! The convention oven worked 50% of the time. After one year, I finally have to go buy a new oven after only 4 years because the pilot failed to ignite the gas oven - very dangerous part to fail. I will never buy another KitchenAid product as long as I live. KichenAid Brand is owned by Whirlpool, and I will purchase any product Whirlpool sells. KitchenAid Superba Electric Double Ovens - We recently purchased the above ovens. They have never worked correctly. There have been four or more service calls. They have replaced the sensors twice. They have replaced the mother boards twice. Each time, the serviceman is hopeful the repairs will work. They have not. Last night, the lasagna took 50% longer to cook as our guests waited. We discovered the oven was actually at 345 rather than the 400 it was set at. A call to KitchenAid was of no help. They said they had a record of only one service call and seemed very unresponsive. I purchased six appliances when I upgraded my kitchen: refrigerator, range, microwave oven, trash compactor, and beverage center to the tune of $10,000. At this point, I would never recommend KitchenAid to anyone. The microwave broke and the part was never available. After months of arguing, I had to get a new one. The refrigerator’s thermostat went out and they did not make the part. I had to get a new refrigerator/freezer. Now, I ran the clean cycle on the oven and the oven overheated and locked up for the second time. The oven is now not operable and I will have to pay a service man to put in another new thermostat. My research shows over 400 complaints. These ovens are a poor design and the self-cleaning feature cannot be used. In addition, I have had to have the trash compactor repaired. The appliances are 36 months old. And when I call KitchenAid, they really don't care to resolve the issues. Very frustrating!

On Wednesday, April 11, 2012, I ran the Self-Cleaning cycle on my KitchenAid Built-in Double Ovens. Approximately an hour into the cycle, the glass liner exploded and shattered. I reported to problem to KitchenAid's Customer Service and they had a local service rep call me within 24 hours. He indicated that he had to order the part but should have it within a week. It has been almost two weeks and I have not heard from the service rep. The oven is less than 6 months old so it is covered under warranty. Although I had been extremely happy with how the oven performed (baked) until recently, we are extremely dissatisfied with how KitchenAid is treating the problem. My stand mixer had a bolt fall out while I was using it. I don't know where it came from, but now the stand won't stay locked down when I use it. I tie it down when I am using it. My fridge is the fancy freezer on the bottom, two-door type. There is a set of plastic drawers in the fridge that can't be used because the plastic frame that they hang on broke! My stove I have is a glass top slide-in convection oven. I have had the cooktop replaced, the front panel has been replaced twice, the meat thermometer sensor has had to be replaced twice and many more repairs. If anything overflows, the circuits blow and nothing on the cook top works for a few days until it is dried out. Last Thanksgiving, I had to cook my turkey on the barbeque and my oven didn't work for 6 weeks!
Last night, a screw fell out of the bottom of the door and the inside and outside of the door was coming apart. I could see a screw was loose. I took the door off to fix it and had to take it apart. I decided to clean the glass while I had everything apart (my glass window was filthy because when anything overflows, the liquid goes down the panel and into the door). And when I was putting everything together, I heard a weird noise and the panes of the glass window shattered. These appliances cost me over $5000.00 and I bought them thinking I would never have to replace them.
I've contacted KitchenAid and they have sent people out to fix it. However, that is because I've paid for an extended warranty. They will not replace the stove because a problem has to re-occur 3 times for it to be replaced. Meanwhile, they have paid $1000s in service repairs and are too obstinate to replace the stove which is obviously a lemon (like all my KitchenAid appliance). I am just sick about all the problems I've had.

I have 10+ yr old KitchenAid Superba double ovens. I was baking cookies at 350 degrees in top oven. I took one tray out after 7 minutes and cookies on top were burnt. Door locked itself before I was able to move other cookie trays around. Smoke in oven and perhaps oven fan not working. We turned the wall breaker on and off several times to restart the electronics, which seemed to indicate fan was working when electricity was on. After an hour of oven smoking, refusing to open and oven message of "too hot", flames were seen through the door, like a smoldering fireplace. I ended up calling 911 for oven fire. After trying to open the door and let smoke out, the appliance cooled down apparently while firemen were in the kitchen so that the flames dissipated and door would open. Apparently, the flames were from the cookies igniting.

My husband and I purchased all KitchenAid products for use in a new home we were building in late December 1997. In the first cleaning of the double-wall oven, it locked up; and we had to have the service man from Sears come out and fix it. Since that time, I have had some trouble with the touch pad working and then not working.
About 2 weeks ago, I called Sears; and they sent a repair man out to fix this problem. He informed me that the part for my Superba KitchenAid double-wall oven had been discontinued and that I had probably paid $2,700.00 for this oven. Much to my amazement, because we purchased so many kitchen appliances, I had no idea we had paid this price. Nonetheless, he informed me he had other customers whom he had tried to get parts for and gave me very little hope of ever finding the part to repair this oven.
So I called KitchenAid and was told it had been discontinued and hopes of finding part number 4451292 was going to be very unlikely. I proceeded to get onto the internet on Ask.com and found a repair site. I did some research and found it has been discontinued and that they don't have any idea of anywhere to get this control pad fixed or purchased.
I feel that, after reading all the other complaints on these same malfunctions, there should be some kind of enforcement that KitchenAid or Sears should have warned the public at the time of purchase as to the approximate time you have to get parts for such expensive items. My oven is almost new inside and out. I and my husband (who is now deceased) worked out on the road for many years, and use of this oven was very limited due to us always being gone out on the road. The bottom oven has been used maybe 3 times, and the top oven has not been used hardly at all, compared to my KitchenAid microwave, which we both used all the time.when we were home.
My guess would be that it would about compare a thousand or more to one. The touch pad on my microwave is still doing super. After viewing all the complaints on this model number KEBS277DWH1, part number 4451292, and the issues all of us are having with these ovens, I would hope that someone would stand up for us in a class action lawsuit. These products are very expensive, and nobody is helping the consumers on this product problem. Please someone stick up for all of us who need someone who can make this company responsible for such inadequate products.
As of today, I have no ovens to cook Easter dinner in, because nobody has a part to repair this. And I am a widow and haven't the money ($3,500.00) to buy another one. This is what repair.com wants for another one. I'm very dissatisfied and angry with the outcome of all the work and research done and to get nowhere. Help!

The oven is less than one year old and under warranty. A service person inspected the oven, stated this part is not removable for replacement or repair. The service person telephoned in the concern and was informed of a patch/repair paint kit and said it will be shipped to me. However, it was suggested I contact KitchenAid directly if I found this solution to be unsatisfactory. After the departure of the service person, I inspected the chipped area further. Cracking was noticed on both sides of the chipped area that extends out an inch to an inch and a half on each side causing concern that the issue will continue.

We recently installed our new KitchenAid combination microwave and oven to find several hundreds of fine fiberglass filaments protruding from the oven gasket. The owner's manual contained nothing about this. I attempted to call KitchenAid about the filaments. Per page 22 of the owner's manual, "After checking 'Troubleshooting,' you may find additional help by checking the 'Assistance or Service' section or by calling KitchenAid. " When I called, they cited numbers I encountered only a recording directing me to choose from ordering parts or scheduling a service call. I had to learn from non-KitchenAid online sites the filaments are fiberglass.
The salesperson, from whom we purchased the oven, directed us to heat the oven to 350 degrees for 2 hours to "burn those off and any other oils". We did not find anything in the owner's manual identifying and addressing this. We do not want to suffer harmful health effects from eating fiberglass filaments in our food, there is a reason why people wear respirators while installing fiberglass installation. Why would KitchenAid think it's okay to be eaten in food?
Nor did the owner's manual say anything about having to remove the entire appliance to change the microwave light; only that it is "inaccessible". This was not disclosed to us when we previewed and later purchased the unit. We were further angered by what we have read today on this and other sites concerning exploding glass, locking doors and temp controls necessitating pulling the circuit breaker to shut it off, self-cleaning leading to exploding glass, inability to replace the microwave light without removing the entire appliance, and KitchenAid's knowledge of all of this and more with an unbelievable lack of response reminiscent of Ford's fatal exploding Pinto gas tanks and failing Explorer tires.
We were already without a microwave and oven during several weeks of our kitchen remodeling, now my wife is afraid to use this appliance, wanting it removed from our home. Most likely, this will necessitate rebuilding the cabinet to accommodate another company's' microwave and oven combination, and whatever additional expense and time that will require. Needless to say, after reading this and other complaints we do not hold our breath that KitchenAid will assist us in any way.

We bought our KitchenAid stove in November of 2005 (model # KGRA806PSS00. We have had to fix it twice. Now, I have been told the electronic panel board has went out again for the second time. The repair cost for the parts to fix it this time is $524.00. I called KitchenAid to complain and they basically said, "Sorry, would you like us to set up a service call for you?” I was on the phone for almost an hour with a supervisor. It will do no good! I will not be fixing this stove again.
It originally cost $2199.00 in 2005 and I will be not put in another computer board again. I have all KitchenAid appliances in my kitchen and I can tell you this: I will never bring another KitchenAid product into this house again. KitchenAid does not stand behind their name. I have had a problem with my brand new KitchenAid side by side fridge since day 1 !! The ice maker freezes up within a few hours of producing ice. The dispenser won't dispense ice because the ice is a frozen mess, but a slight leak of water continues to drip through the ice maker onto my wood floor. I didn't break it, it came this way! KitchenAid has sent 4 different repairmen from 2 different companies and so far no one has figured out what the problem is. Now they want me to setup a fifth appointment for another repairman to come. The unit has always been broken.
KitchenAid should stand by their reputation and heavy ticket price and replace my fridge. They can fix it in their factory, but taking 4 days of work off to await repairmen to fix a brand new fridge is enough. So I still have a broken fridge, as my wood floors are being ruined while KitchenAid continues to try to repair it . Kitchenaid is a joke of a company and I will continue to share this information and my story until they replace my fridge!

Today, I was baking chicken, first at a slightly higher temperature than at 350 F. When I took the chicken out, we noticed a small piece of glass the size of a dime on the inside and a crack running from top to bottom. I have read the numerous other posts regarding exploding glass and I seem to have gotten off lucky. However, now I am terrified to use the oven, especially at higher temperatures.
I have a kitchen full of KitchenAid appliances. My experience with KitchenAid service has been nothing short of a nightmare. Four years ago, the ice maker in the fridge malfunctioned in the middle of the night and continued to dispense water all night long until it had flooded my kitchen, dining room and basement below, ruining a portion of our hardwood flooring. KitchenAid took no responsibility even though the fridge was only about four years old. We also had continuous problems with our dishwasher not staying closed during the wash cycle. After numerous service calls, we finally discovered there was a recall to replace the latch.
The big question now is what is KitchenAid waiting for? The potential danger of the exploding glass is extreme. There seems to be a high frequency of this occurring. Perhaps we can vocalize this on Facebook. There has to be power in numbers. KitchenAid can be certain that I will never buy another major appliance from them again.

During a dinner party the week before Christmas, the oven door exploded in my 2 month old, second use of Superba model #KEB-277, which original cost is nearly $2,500. It took me being a proactive consumer, spending about 1/2 hour a day for 6 weeks for the final repair to take place. The first "warranty" repair company just did not show up for an appointment.
Finally, it took to making two appointments with different companies just to make sure someone showed up to look at the problem. Second company was wonderful - however, it still took me being involved with KitchenAid "Safety Division”, their customer service and HHGregg (who told me it wasn't their problem since the 30 day warranty had expired! ), to finally get pieces to repair the door.
Since neither KitchenAid nor HHGregg saw any need to replace a defective product, I insisted on all 2 new pieces of glass, a new steel shell that had been dented with the explosion, and all new racks. The problem is behind me, but I will never purchase another KitchenAid appliance nor buy any product at HHGregg.

On 2/4/12, I purchased a Kitchen Aid double oven microwave unit nearly three years ago, when doing a kitchen remodel. All the appliances are Kitchen Aid, thinking we were purchasing a good, reliable brand name. Yesterday, I placed the oven in the self cleaning mode. After about 2 and a half hours, the inner glass panel on the oven door exploded, sending hot, shattered glass onto the floor. The intensity of the heat cracked the new cabinet along the top of the oven. I called the service center, and they indicated there have been no recalls on this problem. I am horrified to think that if my grandchildren were present, they could have been injured. After reading other complaints on this website, I think Kitchen Aid needs to do a recall on this unit. By the way, they did not offer to replace the glass. They said the glass was covered, but not the two service calls to replace it, and the glass can only be ordered by a service technician.

Now, the oven will not turn on! When I tried contacting Kitchen Aid, they claimed there are "no known problems", however, I do know there is a class action lawsuit in New York, and I also ran across this article.
It seems Kitchen Aid has been aware of this fault for the last 15 years. Kitchen Aid has had knowledge of the defect, since 1996. As early as 1996, Whirlpool issued Service Pointers to authorized repair technicians informing them that there was a defect in the oven, that caused it to fail following the self-clean cycle. Additional service pointers were issued in 1997, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007, and recently, in December 2008. Despite having knowledge of the defect, as early as 1996, Whirlpool has nevertheless chosen to conceal from its consumers the reality, that the self-cleaning cycle will destroy the internal control panel, after only a handful of uses". There are thousands of us in the same boat. Can't something be done?

We built a new home in the Rio Grande Valley in 2005. Since we had previously remodeled our home in Irving, Texas using KitchenAid products which gave excellent service, we assumed we could rely on newer models to do the same. This was a mistake. We installed a stainless steel oven/microwave combination (Model No: KEHC309KSS 05, Serial No: XS060040 57).
The microwave door springs continually break and the light bulb burns out regularly. The product requires a service call every year. It requires two men to change the microwave light bulb because the whole unit has to be pulled from the cabinet. One man must hold the unit while the second replaces the bulb. Even though the service people are told they must send two men, they seldom comply, requiring the scheduling of a second service call. If we did not continually purchase extended warranties, there would be no way to keep the product operable.
After reading all of the posted complaints, we are now afraid to use the self-cleaning part of the actual oven. This was a poorly designed product which never should have been marketed in the first place. After a two page letter listing the number of service calls and the problems, we received a call from KitchenAid stating they had received the letter, had no record of any previous complaints and were relaying the information to their engineers. It sounded as though there would be no follow-up and no effort to resolve the complaint. It's amazing that a company can continue in business with so many complaints against it by relying on past reputation. We would never recommend a KitchenAid product again.

Do you know what temperature the glass is when it shoots out of the oven? I called the extended warranty company who tried to deny the claim to fix it. I spent over an hour on the phone just to secure a service appointment. Then I look online and discover that many people are having the same issue with ovens that were purchased about the same time as mine. Consequently, after the oven is repaired it still does not function properly. That is a concern for the safety of my home and my children.
Then I contact customer service at KitchenAid. Their response is that they are sorry but I'll have to deal with the extended warranty company. They documented my story and that was it. Clearly there have been other complaints. The lack of response makes the company negligent. After less than 5 years, the bottom oven door locks, without warning or just cause. KitchenAid is aware of this manufacturer defect, but chooses to ignore it, and refuse to resolve this issue. Turning off the circuit breaker should reset the computer, but don't count on it. The other solution you may be given is to turn on the self clean feature, cancel it after 2-3 minutes, and hopefully it will unlock. I am appalled that managers like Kia (ID 8592), has no concern for customers. Kia basically stated that after one year, warranties expire, it becomes the customer's problem.
The licensed technicians are stumped to fix the problem, but won't tell you until they collect a service call fee. What is even more outrageous is the model and serial number are inside the oven, but when the door is locked, you cannot not see the number. It is a no-brainer to relocate the model and serial number, so it is accessible when the oven locks up, because it will.
The bottomline is, a class action lawsuit needs to be filed, and a national recall needs to go into effect. Please send me an email if you want to be included in this lawsuit. Send facts with your complete information to **. This is an obvious manufacturer defect which is a hazard. The oven light will not turn off, and the oven door locks for no apparent reason. The oven shuts off in the middle of cooking, then will turn itself back on, anywhere from 30-60 minutes later. My husband and I moved into our just built, brand new home with brand new appliances, in November 2006. We have a Kitchen Aid Gas Range Architect II series (model KGRS807SBL00). The first Christmas meal, in December 2006 was just shy of a disaster. The fan in the oven kept making a horrible sound, and then the oven shut off in the middle of convection cooking the prime rib roast. Luckily, the neighbors let us use their stove to finish the roast. Our entire family and guests didn't eat, until almost 9PM that night. The oven, of course, turned itself back on within an hour or so. A service call the next day showed nothing was wrong with the oven, and the issue couldn't be replicated.
Next year, no noise from the fan, but during the Thanksgiving dinner, the oven shut off again unexpectedly, in the middle of a regular baking cycle, and of course, with no warning, turned itself back on 30 minutes later. This year, same thing happened, and again, a $30-$40 service call to a licensed Kitchen Aid technician shows nothing. The diagnosis can't be made, because the issue can't be replicated. The oven is barely 5 years old, and of course, is outside of the warranties, and frankly doesn't get much use. It's just me and my husband cooking. We're often not even home, and I've used the self-cleaning cycle twice in the 5 years we've had it.
This oven doesn't take a beating in terms of use, and certainly seems to be a faulty product. The only similarity to the occurrences when the oven shuts off appears to be that several burners are going while the oven has been on for a while. It's like the system overloads, which sounds like a computer or electrical sensor issue. I've spoken with several customer service agents, and and ultimately, my calls to Kitchen Aid are a waste of time. They continue to recommend more service calls, which cost money every time, with no resolution and a stove I'm stuck with, which won't work consistently. The oven sensors don't work properly, and when using double oven, unit shuts down and lower door locks. It seems like many others on this site have had the same problem. It sounds like a class action suit to me as it also appears Kitchenaid does nothing to make it right. When you pay over $2,000 for an oven, you expect a solid 10 to 15 years of use. That is not what is happening. My choices are to pay another $2,000 to $3,000 for a new oven or $500 to $800 for repairs every 4 to 5 years or so. It's not good either way.

Since the day I purchased this range, gas/convection oven, I have been disappointed with the quality. First of all, the salesperson at ABT told me the same thing about limiting the amount of self cleaning you do (but said you should do that with all self cleaning ovens.) Then, the fan on the oven sounds like a jet engine when it is on convect or cool down mode. I purchased this range in 2005 I believe, and this Thanksgiving, literally moments after the turkey was done, the oven shut down and will not turn back on. After reading all of these reviews, it clearly does sound like a recall issue and it is unfortunate that Kitchen Aid refuses to acknowledge their poor workmanship or design on this product.

On November 17, 2011, I used my self-clean function of my KitchenAid gas range (model # KGRS807SSS01) according to instructions in manual. The oven is only three years old. After one hour, the oven turned off. The door was locked and it was not due to a circuit breaker. I have had to have two service calls, purchase an electric roaster to cook the Thanksgiving turkey in and received no help from the KitchenAid call center because the authorized repair person stated that I needed part #9762774 for the touch control system. But was told that the part would not be covered under the five-year warranty because it is not the touch control system.
Utterly frustrated after spending three hours on the phone, two service calls and over $400 to repair something that should work. Both repair persons stated that they advise never to use the self cleaning function of the KitchenAid range for just this reason.

We purchased a KitchenAid gas stove (Model KGRC608LSS0) in 2003. The first year we had Thanksgiving, the oven completely shut off in the middle of cooking a Turkey. The oven would not restart for 2 hours. We called KitchenAid and had a repair come out, the next day, who of course could not find any problems, $150.00 wasted. The next Holiday dinner, the same thing happened, again couldn't find a problem. The next time I had Thanksgiving, I decided to cook the Turkey early so that I could turn the oven off for at least an hour before cooking the rest of the meal, and that worked. This past Thanksgiving, I tried my method again but this time the oven would not go back on for 1.5 hours. I tried heating the rest of the meal using the convection and after 45 minutes it shut off again. 22 people waiting for dinner and cooking side dishes in the microwave, not the way I want to host the Holiday. Perhaps this is one way of getting out of cooking the Holiday dinner.
We also had used our self cleaning and it ran for entire day, the control panel didn't blow but this happened before we experienced our problems with the oven shutting off, perhaps connected? All of my major kitchen appliances are KitchenAid. I will not make that mistake again!

I called Kitchen Aid for new knobs, and they said they would send new control knobs as a "one time courtesy". They do not consider it under warranty, as they call it a "cosmetic issue". I purchased an Architect Series II gas range in July 2009. The range is in a home that is inhabited only part time and has not been used much. In fact, it has probably been used a total of twelve times in two years. The first time that I used the self-clean function, the digital control panel went blank and the oven door remained locked. This occurred after about 1.5 hours of the self-clean cycle. I have researched this issue and discovered that it is an exceedingly common defect.
Although this is marketed as a self-clean oven, it can never be self-cleaned without the risk of damaging a fuse that controls the control panel. When I contacted KitchenAid, they acknowledged that this defect has been recognized and repaired, but that my model and serial number do not fall within the recognized group of defective products. My product is an Architect Series II gas range. The numbers associated with it are KGRS807SSS and XY0202920. I have attempted to get KitchenAid to address the problem, but, as described above, they claim that my product falls outside the range of those that are defective. My problem is purely coincidental, although there are many similar complaints regarding the same product listed here.

This unit has been nothing but trouble since we got it and we are at the point of replacing it. In Canada, this unit sells for over $3500.00. I never even thought to check consumer reports before we bought because I knew (ha!) that KitchenAid appliances were the top of the line, had an excellent reputation, and felt so lucky that I could financially buy such an excellent set of ovens for the first time in my life. Boy was I ever wrong.
I won't go through the litany of issues we have had but they are similar to the rest of the complaints and issues stated previously. We had a Warranty with Sears which has now run out. I have to say the serviceman who does the warranty work for Sears was wonderful and I have no issues with him but, he also disclosed problems with several similar ovens.
One easy fix: we have had issues with the door hinges/springs deteriorating and the doors not fully closing, hence the oven not warming. A quick fix is to buy two approximately 1" diameter rare earth magnets and place them on the sides of the door about 3" down from the top so as not to affect the electronic panel. They will keep your door tightly closed.
I too, would join in any class action suit against KitchenAid/Whirlpool and will continue to badmouth the company at every opportunity until they had the decency to admit publicly that there are problems with these ovens and offer to repair them free of charge. Thanks for the platform to speak up.

I wish I had read reviews here before we bought our stove! We have a 2003 KitchenAid (KGSC308LSSO) -- $1400 and change. It has fussy controls and hard to clean; I've never liked the thing. The self-cleaner stopped working years ago; we've just lived without it. Then last week the stove was preheating to 350F, and the inner glass window spontaneously broke. My husband called it in; gave them the model number and all other information.
Today I have to take a half day off of work. The usual response, "we'll come between 1-5 PM" routine; around 3 PM a repairman called to say he would be coming by to look at the stove, and put in an order for any needed parts. What the **? We need a window. It's going to cost me half a day of work, plus the cost of a service call, or two calls, to have some guy who sounded pretty incompetent on the phone tell me that we need a new window? No more KitchenAid in this house.

We purchased a KitchenAid Superba Architect Series double oven (model # KEBC208KSS02) in 2003 for our new-built home. After using the self-cleaning oven, the display of the oven went completely out and the oven doors were locked. We had the oven repaired (we had to replace the motherboard which was over $800 once the repairs were completed) and 3 months later we had the mother board go out again.
We were then told the board was only under warranty for 90 days (we were just out of warranty on the board) and that we would have to purchase another board. This is absolutely unacceptable.
I have read so many forums and complaints online about this same problem and am disgusted that KitchenAid has not done anything about this. When we phoned KitchenAid about this problem to file a complaint, they would not do anything about it.

We remodeled our kitchen in July of 2006. We installed all new KitchenAid appliances. The slide-in gas range/oven (model # KGSA906PSS01) is a terrible product. I had 2 service calls on the oven in the first few years. Once the 5 year warranty had expired the motherboard had to be replaced, followed by the gas valve, the sparker module and the gas range circuits. Buying a new oven now seems like a smarter move.
The customer service was unsympathetic and didn't even try to stand by their product.

I too bought KA 600 Pro in December of 2010 after having a KA Ultra Power (KSM90) for about 10 years (which I had bought used from a friend). I bought the 600 Pro with much expectation to do more with it than what I was able to do with the Ultra Power. First of all, my Ultra Power had no issues with making bread doughs, I had two bowls to make two full batches back to back. And it did not give me any problem, never shut down, smell, etc., although I could tell it was a bit stressed when I did stiff dough and full amount sometimes. I also always make WW and white mixed (50/50).
When I got the Pro 600, I had something to compare it with, so I had expected it to be much stronger, as it is 575 watts vs. 300 in my previous UltraPower, I expected to make much bigger batch of dough as it was 6 qt. vs. 4.5 qts. The box even says it can handle 15 cups of flour! But from the first batch it started smelling like burning and then a few minutes later I could even see some smoke coming out from the head. I called KA and told the problem, they said they never had this kind of issues (which is a complete lie as I can see so many people with the same problem), but they offered to replace without a question. That was nice. So I got the second mixer, try it again, same problem. They sent me another one. Same old story. I knew by the second one it wasn't the first mixer's problem, but it was ALL newer KA problem. But I had to agree to the replacement mixers as that is the only way they would finally give my money back. Then I got an upgrade to a KA Commercial 5 Series, which is supposed to be certified for commercial use. I tried it out. Not much difference in the bread dough kneading and also when I used the grinder attachment, with the first try I heard something like a popping noise then it sounded like the machine was falling apart. I stopped it and called KA and they agreed to buy back my machine. I haven't received my refund yet, but they are supposed to send it to me.
Now, after all these, I still haven't given up my love for KA stand mixers yet because of my experience with my Ultra Power and due to what I have heard about the Hobart made mixers. So now, I'm turning to eBay and looking for a good used Hobart made K5SS. I hope I will find a good one, which I believe I will as I see them come up time to time. I think more and more people will be looking for them though.

I was using my KitchenAid stove (free-standing range) and had a pot on the back burner. When I went to put some potatoes into the water, the glass on the back-splash of the stove shattered. It sent shards and pieces of glass towards my face and all over the kitchen -- up to 5 feet away. We are still finding tiny slivers of glass in our kitchen from this. I called KitchenAid first thing in the morning and told the customer service person what happened; she said to unplug it, and that they will send a repair person. She also said "glass breaks". I explained that it was more than glass breaking. Nothing had hit the glass. It shattered while I was cooking and exploded towards my face. I was very lucky that I wasn't really hurt.
The customer service person told me that even though the unit was out of warranty they would be happy to replace the glass. I asked if the glass had been changed or redesigned so that it would not shatter again. She said no. She also said that I would need to talk to the safety department. I was transferred to them. Barbara, the safety person, said the same thing and also offered me 10% off of a new stove. When I said that it was not enough to get a new stove, she suggested I let them fix my stove and then sell it, and use that money to get a new one with the discount. When I asked her if she thought I should tell the buyer that I was selling the stove because the glass exploded in my face; she didn't say anything. She just said, “This is all we will do for you.”
I asked for her supervisor and was transferred to Mary **. She gave me a lengthy description of tempered glass and how it was supposed to do this. She said that if the glass was old and had probably been bumped in the past, it would cause it to break eventually. I looked in my manual that came with the stove and there was no mention of that piece in the manual -- or anything saying that after a certain amount of time, the glass should be replaced; or if it has ever been bumped, that integrity of the glass with be compromised. When I called again and brought this to her attention, Mary ** said , “We will not replace your stove. It is 10 years old. We will give you new glass and a discount (15%) on a new KitchenAid stove.”
I asked why they would send me the same glass that almost injured me and expected me to be happy. If it happens again, me or my family could be really harmed. She didn't have an answer. She just kept saying, "glass breaks - we will replace it." I asked them to send me something in writing saying that they feel this replacement piece is safe and will not cause harm to my family if I use it, and that there is no specific length of time that I can use it safely. She said they will send a letter stating they will replace the glass. She then suggested that I slide the glass behind the metal piece that is currently in the stove; so if it does happen to shatter again, I won't be hurt. I told her this doesn't give me any confidence in the product.
Also, why would I put the glass in if it is not used properly? Wouldn't that be more dangerous? Again, no answer from her. I also spoke on the phone to the KitchenAid repair person that they (Kitchen Aid) called and scheduled to order the new glass. When I spoke to him on the phone, I told him that KitchenAid claims this never happens and it is a freak thing. He said it happens frequently. I asked him if he would put the glass in, if it were his oven and it had done this. He said, “No, there should not be glass on that part of the oven at all. It's a danger.” I called Mary ** at KitchenAid and told her that their own repair person didn't recommend putting the piece in the stove.
I said I felt that I should get a new, hopefully safer range from KitchenAid; and that there was nothing that said that just because I have had the range for 10 years, I should expect it become a hazard. If they have not redesigned the part to be safe, then they should replace the unit. She said there is no way that they will ever replace a stove this old. She said that there is nothing else I can do other than try to take them to court. Overall, I have gotten conflicting information. I was told not to use the stove at all with the glass missing, and that I don't need the glass.
I was told that this was tempered glass and what it's supposed to do; and yet, there is no mention of that in any of the product literature. I was also told this is what tempered glass does, yet this never happens. So I am not sure if I should use the stove or not, or if it's safe to have the glass or not; and they will not replace my stove.

After about the first hour, I left the kitchen for five minutes, came back and there was glass everywhere. Kitchen Aid denies any liability here, off warranty and is offering me a 50% discount for a new glass. However, I have glass shards all over the oven, in the vents, gaskets, and I can't reach these areas to clean it out. At the end of January 2011, I had a serious problem with my KitchenAid oven model KEBU107SSS00, Serial Number XU3510616. The oven is less than 2 years old. On Monday, for the first time, I tried the self-cleaning feature of the oven. After approximately 1.5 hours into the cycle, I heard a pop coming from the oven. When I checked, I saw that the inner door glass had completely shattered. I immediately stopped the cycle. I opened the door after the oven cooled down and unlocked, the inner glass was in a thousand pieces. Again, this was the first time I had used the self-cleaning feature of the oven.
Even though the oven was technically out of warranty (1 year warranty), since the glass broke the first time we used the self-cleaning feature, we thought that there was a manufacturing defect with either the glass or the oven and that KitchenAid would stand behind its product. We were mistaken! My wife called KitchenAid and all the representatives said was that it was out of warranty and KitchenAid would not cover the repairs. My wife pushed it up a level to the supervisor and she said the same thing, it is not under warranty. She did say that she could give us a 50% discount on the glass, a savings of about $60. Frustrated, I called 3 repair companies for a cost to fix the problem. Amazing, when I explained the situation, each company said the same thing; this sounds like a manufacturing defect and KitchenAid should fix it.
I emailed KitchenAid twice to find out who at KitchenAid I could contact to get some satisfaction with this problem. I never heard back from them. I have been a loyal KitchenAid customer. In fact, I currently have 5 KitchenAid appliances in my home: Oven, microwave, refrigerator, dishwasher and beverage/wine cooler. I would think that you would want to keep customers like me and not just say it is out of warranty, especially since the total cost to repair the oven is approximately $250!

I purchased a Kitchen Aid Single Wall Oven about five years ago and had it installed as part of a complete kitchen re-model. A licensed contractor installed it. I had a problem when I used the self-clean cycle, the thermostat burned out.
I contacted Whirlpool and they offered to compensate me for only the cost of the part. It took a long time for the technician to install the new part because the design and placement of the thermostat was located awkwardly. It requires complete dis-assembly and removal of the oven.
Now, after baking some brownies at a temperature of only 325F for only 30 minutes, the glass door of the oven exploded outwardly and landed on my feet. Luckily, I was wearing slippers and long pants, otherwise, I surely would have been cut by the flying glass. Our chihuahua came into the kitchen while this was happening and I shooed him out because the glass kept on coming.
This product is extremely dangerous and I would like to see Whirlpool have a recall on their ovens. I read other consumers' reports and they experienced the same things I had. I used to think KitchenAid was a safe, reliable product. Now I don't.
I am actually frightened to use my dishwasher, also a KitchenAid because I have read of fires caused by faulty wiring. It is also five years old. So is my refrigerator. Whirlpool, please do something about this exploding glass problem before someone gets killed or blinded or maimed by flying glass.

I called KitchenAid and the representative told me the door was under warranty but the glass was not! Completely ignored the fact that I was injured because of this and kept me on the phone claiming that he was looking for the cost of the glass replacement part! This is after I had already told him exactly what happened twice. Meaning, I had to pay for the "service" to give KichenAid another chance to take my eyes out. He said that the only thing to prevent this from happening again was for me to buy another appliance. I called Kitchenaid at least 10 times and spoke with their call center telling the problem and my concerns. They sent out two different companies and both acknowledged that there was a problem, but said nothing could be done to fix it.
One of the repair companies said they have heard this complaint before. I told Kitchenaid that the my mother lives in the condo and the ovens create an unsafe condition for her. My mother is 97 years old and the heat caused by these ovens is overwhelming. The kitchen becomes the oven. Using the oven causes the kitchen to overheat which is a hazard for my elderly mother. The heat is too much for her (too much for anyone) and I am afraid she will faint, fall or become ill from it. I have asked the store where I bought it to have their local Kitchenaid representative call me and he has not. The most recent time it died was when we were using it as an oven to cook food (what a concept) for a period of about four hours. Highest temperature was for about one hour at 400 degrees. This is the second time that this oven has failed this way. I had the computer replaced about two years ago. I see online that this is a common problem with these ranges. The customer service person told me that they are aware that the self cleaning feature causes the stoves to break but said that this problem was not unique to KitchenAid. I am willing to participate in a future class action lawsuit against KitchenAid for this problem.

I am an owner of the Kitchenaid double wall oven model 3 kebs208dss8. I could not begin to list my numerous complaints about this oven and the lack of any help or concern from Kitchenaid. I have replaced both oven doors 3 times as well as the hinged 4 times. I have had the oven serviced twice when the fuses blew when cleaning the oven. In addition, the control panel no longer works and has been replaced on another occasion. They are now claiming they don't make the parts to replace defect.
My oven is now useless. Kitchen aid is well aware of the problems with the ovens they are doing nothing. It is outrageous that they are not being sued. I have spent over 5,000 at this point on this piece of junk. Shame on Kitchenaid. The retailers should no longer carry there products. Please address this situation. It is so unfair to the consumer that a major company can get away with this.

My KitchenAid Superba double oven (Model: KEBS208SSS00) keeps thinking that the probe is connected. This has prevented us from using the oven for over two months. We bought the oven three years ago and besides the holidays, we use the oven seldom. We contacted KitchenAid's help desk and they referred us to service after having me go through the "Bread proof" proceeding on page 15 of their user's guide. It is incredible that no mention of the probe is found in any other place and that there is no other way to get the oven out of the probe cycle--not even to turn off the oven, but by keeping the door open. Based on the comments by other customers, KitchenAid is aware of the problem, but is not willing to solve it. I wonder if we could submit our complain to the BBB or any other organization that may help us to have KitchenAid solve this problem. Please comment.

I recently bought a brand new home that came with a Superba Built In Electric Convection Double Oven. I decided to use the self clean function for the first time. I followed the instructions and went to bed. In the middle of the night, I heard an alarming noise. The entire inside glass of the oven had shattered into a million pieces, for which it took countless hours to clean. Upon calling KitchenAid, they made it seem like I had done something improper. Well upon research, it would seem that this is not the first time that people have complained about glass shattering, tinging or simply not working after using the self clean function. To make matters worse, customer service is horrible. They sent me the wrong parts for fixing the problem and had the audacity to blame me for them sending out the incorrect part. They are supposed to be the experts on their products, not me.

Well, it's autumn and we are starting to cook indoors again. And once again, our KitchenAid oven thinks there is a cooking probe inserted. This has been a continuous problem ever since we got this oven four years ago.
The excuse that the repair people give us is that KitchenAid knows there is a problem, but refuses to do anything about it. There is no cover over the probe inlet and, therefore, debris supposedly enters there when cooking. Great design! Especially since their older stand alone ovens had a flip cover over the insert that would probably have cost them less than 5 cents. Well, it just explains why Americans don't want to buy American today.
My wife and I will probably buy a new oven tomorrow because neither of us have any intention of going another year with having to either flip the breaker switch so we don't have to listen to the "beep" all night because the oven controller thinks there is a probe inserted or to try to clean the hole because it is almost impossible (believe me, I've tried many times tonight without success). And you can sure believe, I will never buy another Kitchinaid appliance, and I probably won't be buying American either. Thanks KitchenAid for a defective design that you won't admit is bad and fix!

Count me in on any class action against KitchenAid. I have a double oven wall (oven model KEBS208DSS6). During the clean cycle, it completely fried. Thank goodness my husband was home and quickly shutoff the power off to it. The door latch completely melted so the door would not open, all the sensors and fuses fried, and also the micro computer panel. I fixed all except the computer panel. It is no longer available. I can't find it anywhere.
This makes my oven unfixable and basically a beautiful piece of garbage in my kitchen wall. It appears that this is a common problem and I would like KitchenAid to take responsibility and/or at the very least, make available the parts to fix them. I feel if my husband had not shut off the power, this could have caught fire. There are no parts available, so that makes this unit garbage and I will have to buy a new one.

I remodeled my kitchen 10 years ago and purchased all new KitchenAid appliances. One of the appliances was a Superba double oven with convection and self cleaning features on the top oven. Nine months after installation, I ran the self cleaning mode. The control panel board burned out. It turned yellow along with the door handle. To make it worse, the door lock stayed on until a repair came and opened it. There was some sort of "flaw" and it took several months for my repairman to receive the parts needed to make the repair. That meant I had no oven for Thanksgiving dinner and had to treat 12 relatives to Thanksgiving dinner at a restaurant.
Since then, I have reverted to wiping out the oven weekly being afraid to run the self cleaning mode. Two days ago, I decided to run the self cleaning mode in my oven. The stupid thing burned up again. The reason I am not giving you the model number is because the oven door is still locked! This is a terrible product that should be recalled. KitchenAid sold me a warped glass top gas stove almost 2 years ago and they have not replaced it. They just shut my case with it not being resolved. I have vowed to never buy another KitchenAid product.

I purchased a KitchenAide Superba Model Number **** with Serial number **** in 2005. The first time I used the clean cycle, my oven was out of warranty so I paid out of pocket for the total repair. The thermostat was the problem. The next time I used the clean cycle, the same problem. The oven was unusable because it would not heat. This was in June of 2009. The thermostat is still the issue so the technical support said I had to replace the t-stat with a higher temp one. KA paid for the part while I had to pay labor.
Well, here we are in September of 2010 and silly me, I decided to clean the oven again. Well, needless to say, my oven does not heat again! The technician came out again and called KA technical support who now says to replace the t-stat, blower motor, door gasket and to add a shim kit to the door. My total estimate was over $500. I called KA and they refused to help. I asked for a manager. This person said they would pay for 1/2 of the cost of parts but not labor. I was still not happy so I asked for another manager. This person states that they should not be helping me at all because it is out of warranty but would cover all the parts but not labor. So this time it will cost me another $200.
I intend to use the clean cycle once every 30 days because that is how long they will warranty the parts and labor. And I can only imagine that I will be without a working oven for several days every 30 days. The repairs do not fix the problem, they just allow the oven to heat. You cannot use the clean cycle which is one of the reasons I picked this model.

We've had 2 ovens in one year. Starting with the most recent and going back. Oven #2 exploded. The inside glass shattered while the broiler was heating up. My mother and I were standing 3 feet away! We could have been hospitalized and blinded if the outer glass busted also. We are traumatized! There's glass everywhere. I can't tell you the model right now because the oven is still full of glass. (a tech is on his way to have a look-see and we wanted him to experience what we experienced).
How we got oven #2: After 3 months, we put the oven#1 on the self cleaning cycle. The self cleaning cycle left a crack and a huge brown spot on the oven floor. There were lots of little crunches- yes, like burnt potato chips everywhere.
Repair guy #1 comes out and says, "that happened because we cooked with foil in the oven." Yes we did have a sheet of foil on the oven floor during cooking to prevent spills. Not during the cleaning cycle. So he tells us one thing, then emails the company another. His email said we damaged the oven by cooking with foil! Repair guy#2 comes out and says it's the heating element that caused this crack and brown spot. And he says, "these newer ovens can't take the heat from the self cleaning.
You shouldn't have used it." By the time repair guy#3 comes out, we're furious and ready to go to court. He checks it out, puts in an order for the oven to be replaced and tells us not to use the self cleaning cycle when we get the new oven. The KA oven that came with the house lasted 15 years. But these new KA ovens are dangerous and should be recalled before someone gets hurt! Class Action suit, count us in!

The following clean cycle oven would not heat. We have service provided by our gas company. The representative came out, diagnosed the problem as heating element and ordered a replacement. It did not fix the problem. He called the KitchenAid distributor who told him it was the control board. A week later, the control board came, was installed, and it all worked except for the "cancel" button. He called KA again, they now said it was a fuse and the front push-panel. KA (I called the home office) then sent an "authorized" repair guy. He pronounced the oven was fine, but noticed we hadn't had the back blower squirrel-cage upgrade for high altitude (6000' above MSL). At that point we all wondered why a company would even distribute a product to the Intermountain West that had a very inadequate fan to keep the whole box from turning bright red and setting fire to the house. He then said he would email his findings to the home office.
In the meantime, the gas representative came out, replaced the front push-panel and a new fuse. He put the oven on clean cycle, and about 15 minutes in the fan, quit working. The sidewall of the oven cabinet was above 325F which I consider a fire hazard of the first order. The oven in question is their model KEBC 107 KBL 903. When the tech first opened the top of the cabinet, there were black crunchies like potato chips scattered around and there was evidence of smoke/heat on one of the wire raceway. Upon inspection, it turned out to be what used to hold wires bundled together, tape. There were also three crispy sections of the board around various resistor groups. The "authorized" technician said that was probably from cooking something at the wrong temperature. Really? If KitchenAid wants a new business model, I suggest building stone walls. Never again.

But I was able to detect an open thermal switch back of the oven. The repair people at KitchenAid wanted almost a thousand dollars for the repair. Reason for the new oven order. I sent the owner to a parts place.
For $85 he got a part that I have often bought for less than $10. The oven worked. I brought the defective part home with me to NY. The autopsy revealed a bimetallic disk that like a mini umbrella should pop inside out upon heating and the other way upon cooling. It popped as it should when I heated it but refused to return to its old shape when I took it away from the heat. I tried it in my deep-freeze. No luck. This sub-part should not cost a nickel--no exaggeration-- but many ovens are going to the junkyard because of it. Way to go, Kitchenaid--if you want to go out of business. Since the failures occurred within one year of the purchase, the repairs were covered under warranty.
After the last repair in March 2006, I called KitchenAid customer service to complain about this problem a number of times.
