HGHW coverage and plans
HGHW plans cover a wide range of home appliances and systems, no matter the make, model or age. California’s tiers and plan packages vary from those of the other two states, offering coverage unavailable in other states on select appliances.
Plan details
While HGHW’s plans have different names and some different offerings, they are mostly the same across all three states. The big difference is that plans in California offer some coverage you can’t get in the two other states, including smart home, doorbell, ceiling, attic and exhaust fan coverage.

What does HGHW not cover?
Like most other home warranty companies, HGHW has some limitations and exclusions you should consider before signing a contract. Here is a list of items that standard HGHW contracts do not cover:
- Regular maintenance or cleaning
- Damage caused by people, pests or pets
- Missing parts or any improper repairs, installations or modifications
- Any issues caused by missing parts or equipment
- Known issues flagged by the manufacturer
- Cosmetic issues or damage that doesn't affect how your unit works
- Solar energy systems or electronic management systems
- Anything classified as commercial gear
- Professional-grade appliances
- Problems caused outside of normal wear and tear
- Any service requested before or after the coverage period
- Restocked or returned item fees
- Haul-away costs
- Certain system or appliance parts
It’s important to note that some repairs or replacements have a price cap. This means that the company will only pay up to a certain amount for a repair or replacement; then, you are responsible for the rest. Here are the caps found in the California customer contract:
Equipment | Cap |
---|---|
Solar pool and spa | $1,500 |
Water softener and reverse osmosis water filtration system | $500 |
Outdoor kitchen | $1,000 |
Ornamental fountain | $500 |
Refrigerators | $1,500 |
Septic tank pumping | $500 |
Sewage ejector pump | $500 |
Smart home | $5,000 |
Solar water heating system | $1,500 |
Select swimming pool/spa equipment | $1,500 |
HGHW cost
With HGHW, all states have one-year or two-year options. The base plan costs $390 to $445 for one year and $715 to $750 for two years.
HGHW contract pricing for California
Standard coverage | Advantage Plan | Advantage Plan Plus | Total Protection Plan | Total Protection Plan Plus | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
One-year contract | $390 | $525 | $620 | $725 | $815 |
Two-year contract | $715 | $945 | $1,125 | $1,190 | $1,525 |
Once you’ve paid for your package, you’ll pay an $85 trade service request fee for each claim you file. If you get a plan with a $50 trade service request fee option, then you’ll just need to pay $50 per claim.
If the problem isn’t fixed on the first try, you won’t need to pay another trade service request fee if you need a technician to revisit your house. Labor is guaranteed for 30 days, and parts have a 90-day guarantee. Additionally, pest control services get a 30-day warranty from the original service date. You must report any malfunctions within 30 days of the service to ensure coverage without paying another fee.
Compare with competitors
There are a few ways that HGHW sets itself apart from the competition. Generally, home warranty companies don’t cover appliances and systems that are still under the manufacturer’s warranty. HGHW has plans that cover $1,000 worth of labor for systems and parts that are still under a manufacturer’s warranty.
Unlike other companies, HGHW doesn’t include washers, dryers, or refrigerators in most of its plans, and it doesn’t offer monthly payment plans.
When it comes to cost, its service fee is in line with what other top companies charge. The yearly fee is almost half of what its competitors charge.
HGHW’s cancellation policy
You can cancel your contract with HGHW at any time. You'll get a full refund if you haven’t filed a claim and if it’s within the first 30 days of your contract. If you did file a claim, you’ll get a prorated refund unless the cost of the repair or replacement exceeds how much you paid for your plan. In that case, you’ll have to pay the difference back to HGHW.
If you file after 30 days, you’ll get a prorated refund minus an administration fee. If you file a claim and it costs more than what you paid for your plan, you’ll have to pay the difference and an administration fee.
