Fridge repair - They found someone who was good, fair and honest. They need to work on emphasizing customer relations with HA's customers to their contractors. This business was an hour and a half late and did not call to tell me they would be late. I had to call them. This is one of the issues I had with the first time I tried to use HA on another matter. The contractor was always late and did not show up twice. I fired him before he started.

Used HomeAdvisor twice in the past year or so for very different services and both times was very happy with the results. First was to find first-time and ongoing house cleaner for my aging parents. Almost 6 months now of excellent service, plus trustworthy and dependable, and very pleasant personality. Second was antique wood tables refinishing - again excellent job in every way. Looking for someone to insulate garage ceiling. Through the search I was provided with at least 10 results for the job. I attempted to contact four. Only one didn't respond. The three who did respond were all very polite and were able to answer questions about the job immediately and even ask for specific details. I was thrilled that I got so many responses immediately. However what I didn't know is that HomeAdvisor charges their contractors for each lead. Since I went with a provider that was in the neighborhood at the time, it wasn't fair to the others who wanted to quote. Painted my home quickly and effectively. They did an awesome job. Filled in all cracks from the original building and settling. The painters were very kind and explained everything. When they finished, they gave a good walkthrough to explain their job and fixed all holes and issues in the paint job.

They did show up within the allotted time frame but it would be a good idea if they called before coming just to make sure I was home and not outside etc. and maybe miss the appointment. There was no follow up after the appointment was made online. Other than that, it was fine.

Overall, my experience with HomeAdvisor has been positive, although it has also been hit or miss. I have used HomeAdvisor to get several bids/quotes. I find that usually HomeAdvisor will only match me up with a single company in their preferred list, and then several companies with no backing or Guarantees. I also find that many of the companies that they match me up with are at the higher end of the price spectrum, and really push add-ons above and beyond the original project. Slightly higher price I don't mind, but I really don't want to be upsold prior to completing my first project. I have attempted to use HomeAdvisor for 5 projects, but I have only successfully hired one company so far. Hopefully this number will go up as I learn how to better navigate and request services through HomeAdvisor.

It's easy to get other projects and award them to the vendor, but from experience, don't do that. I was stuck with a project for over a month because the vendor suddenly was not available, or another sub-contractor had not done their part and so on. If you need to award another project, it's best you start all over... This way, HomeAdvisor will keep a tab on them, and they know it.
