purchase of an area rug. When I went to the local store the selection they had in the store was not anything I could use so I went on line to check out what was available here. I was able to find (2) different styles that I liked and went back to the local store with the required information in hopes they could order it for me. I was told I had to order it myself on line and I could use my gift card to pay for the purchase, however when I went back on line and tried to place my order they wouldn't accept my gift card for payment and when I called to inquire about this I was told I could only use my gift card in a store, where they don't have what I wanted.
When I asked if I could redeem the gift card for cash I was told this wasn't possible either and they tried to get me to open a charge card with them so I could purchase the rug I wanted. All I want is the rug or the cash and they can NOT provide either. What kind of a company is this that can not provide the customer with appropriate service or will not even honor their own gift cards for on line purchases? No wonder people are going to Lowes for their purchases. I would suggest that a change in corporate policies be made to allow gift cards to be used for on line purchases and I know there are company representatives who agree with me because they told me this when I called them regarding this issue. If your own corp. personel feels the existing policy regarding gift cards and on line purchases is stupid don't you think it's about time to change this policy.
I spent many hours on line trying to find something that was not available in the store.
I made 2 trips to the store to try to get this resolved.

My husband and I purchased what we believed was a John Deere riding mower from Home Depot in 2005. It was the most expensive model they had, nearly $3000, and we also purchased all the available attachments. Within a few months of mowing, 1 time each week, 1.5 acres, the mower started having mower deck problems,,,uneaven cutting, pulleys wearing out. My husband went to Home Depot and they could not assist in the repairs except telling him to go to a John Deere dealer.
My husband visited the local Deere dealer and said the guy just rolled his eyes and said Not another one The dealership informed my husband that we purchased basically a generic lawn mower, that John Deere merely stamped its name on. The dealer showed my husband an actual John Deere brand mower and it was twice the machine, more heavy duty and built like we expected a John Deere to be.
Upon learning this my husband returned to Home Depot and informed the manager that he was feeling ripped off. We explained our disappointment to the manager and he just stared at us with a blank, "I don't give a damn" type of expression.
So here we sit, with a mower that basically does a poor job at mowing our lawn, and we have no alternative but to deal with the fact we were deceived and taken advantage of by a false advertising campaign by John Deere and Home Depot.

Received an email 10 MONTHS later stating the gift card had mailed. By then I had moved. I called the customer service number with my rebate and submission number and they told me there is nothing they can do, my rebate record was too old and was not accessible. To top it off, the stainless burners have already rusted and the holes shoot flames out of them, the grill is unusable.

We purchased this table, 6 chairs, and umbrella and stand set from Home Depot in May 2006. Today (May 6, 2007) it spontaneously exploded into a thousand pieces of small glass. I looked online to research how to replace the table and saw other complaints eerily similar to mine. This is disturbing and JRA Furniture Industries who manufactures these should replace them at no charge.

I have been reading on your website about the $299 or above no-interest-for-a-year issue. My spouse and I have been through the same situation 3 times in 3 years. We make a purchase, are assured by the store mgr that it qualifies for the promotion, and receive the first bill only to find that our transaction is noted as Revolving Credit, payment due monthly. We have called each time, and told that it was a billing mistake, which will be resolved with the next bill. It typically takes us 3 months of phone calls to get the billing resolved.
This 3rd time was the final straw. We will be cutting up BOTH our HD cards once our most current promo offer is paid off, and will no longer be making major purchases at HD. We have also found, over the past few years, that the quality of the major item we have purchased at HD is NOT the same as what we have found elsewhere. Specific examples are the HD-sold John Deere tractors, and Anderson doors.
The promo billing issues have been time-consuming to resolve. The John Deere tractor (HD replaced it twice the first two months I owed it) is NOT warrantied by John Deere, although HD assured us that it was, prior to making the purchase. The local Deere franchise has told us that we will be lucky to get 5 years' usage out of it (JD tractors typically last 15-20 yrs, we're told.)
The Anderson storm door that HD installed was installed poorly, and we have not been able to get HD to come back out and re-install it. It is also very flimsy, compared to the (supposedly, according to HD salesperson) similar model that one could purchase at a Windows & Doors retailer.

I was needing parts for a Murray Lawnmower I bought four years ago. I tried calling the only parts place listed in Texas in my owners manual. After 8 failed attempts I tried the internet, and ran across complaints about Murray mowers. Low and behold I read about someone else that had a leaking gas tank. The second summer I used the mower I noticed gas in the oil when I checked it. I changed oil and after I mowed I noticed it again.
Then I started noticing gas left over in the tank when I was finished mowing, was not there the next time I mowed. Finally I found it was leaking from the fuel line after the filter. I called Home Depot and they basically told me to contact the dealer.

I purchased $4100 of appliances from Home Depot, it was a disaster from the start. The dishwasher was ordered in the wrong color but I noticed it before the order was placed. I was told it would be 10 days, it turned out to be a 21 day wait. I did complain to the acting manager and insisted that I be given a loaner fridge or my money back. He delivered us o fridge the next day. I told him that the rebate was going to expire in a couple of days and I was concerned that the appliances would not be delivered in time to get the UPC codes for rebate submission. The appliances were delivered the next day, 2 days shy of the rebate expiration.
I gathered all my paperwork and submitted the rebates directly to the post office so that I was sure they would arrive on time. I receives a check for $55 for delivery rebate and a gift card for $125 but have not gotten anything for the other rebate that I am entitled to, but now they say that they received no other rebate information so they are finished giving me my gift cards. I would advise that you go elsewhere to purchase major things or special-ordered merchandise.

I purchased a sink and faucet with the extra parts needed. I paid $185 to have the new sink installed. When the contractor from Perez Plumbing arrived he said the $185 only covers the pull out and put in of new sink. It does not include hooking up the sink and that there will be an extra charge of $95 and hour, plus parts. I paid $112 made out to Home Depot, not the contractor. The following day I was on the phone with contract in hand demanding my money back for the extra work. Nowhere in the contract does it say if the old drain and new drains do not line up then there will be an additional charge for plumbing. A Mr. Smith came to my home, took pictures and agreed with me that the $185 was to cover the entire instillation. It's been two weeks now and I still don't have my money.

On February 24, 2006 we purchased 10 x 12 Mesa West Tuff Shed from THE HOME DEPOT. The shed was a little larger then we had planned to buy, but with a 10% rebate ($253.90) it would be very close in price to the smaller model. So, in good faith we purchased the larger shed. We then took great care in filling out the proper paperwork and sent it off to THE HOME DEPOT on March 3, 2006. May 2006 was the end of the offer. Five months went by without hearing from them or receiving the rebate check, so we decided to give them a call. I ordered a tub shower via an associate who was having difficult. It seemed as though she had the order straightened out when we made the final purchase. The fist delivery was incorrect. The second delivery arrived and my contractor went to pick it up, verified the product SKU and brought it to my house telling me he verified this with the store.
The contractor ripped out the old tub shower and upon removing the product from the box, my wife realized that it was the incorrect product...one we did not want. The description on the invoice was what we wanted...the ID number associated with the item was incorrect. In other words, from a word perspective it was what we ordered, but from a SKU perspective it was not. I called the home depot and told them that they needed to allow us to install the incorrect tub shower (so that I had a place to wash) and that they needed to compensate the contractor (and me) for the additional labor. This was agreed upon and the appropriate invoice was sent to the manager. It has been a run around ever since.
It's not so much the money, but the treatment, lies etc. I am having to deal with at this store. It's ridiculous. The value is $750 for labor.

I spent over $14,000 at Home Depot during the course of my kitchen remodel, and submitted paperwork for 2 rebates. 1 for appliances that would total $100, another for the cabinets that would be a gift card for $500.
I was denied the $100, because Home Depot claimed that it was not sent within the qualifying time frame, and the purchase was not made in the qualifying time. When I told the local store's expediter, she personally gave me a $100 gift card.
I was told the $500 gift card was sent on September 28, and that it would take at least 30 days to arrive. By November 8, I still had not received it, and so emailed the online rebate center. I was told the original one would be deactivated, and that a new one would arrive within 14 business days. That one also did not arrive. I called them, and was told that my address was not correct within their system, and that is probably why the transaction had stopped processing. She assured me that the card was surely on its way.
I emailed again on December 18th, and was told that the original card they sent had a zero balance, so the resubmission was cancelled.
I never received the card. I am an honest person, and have no criminal record, yet I have been spoken to with suspicion and definitely not with any apology by the service associates. I live in a condo with a locked gate and a locked mailbox that only I and the mailman have access to.

There were 8 boxes in the original order, 2 boxes per door. So far, UPS has picked up 2 doors, then a half of a door, then a half of a door. There are still two boxes (1 door) waiting on my front porch to be picked up...
I have called Home Depot more times than I can remember. My last attempt at getting this situation resolved was yesterday, Friday Nov. 17. For grins, I did so and was introduced to what customer service truly means. The UPS lady spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me trying to figure out how she could help me. At the end, the only thing she could do it listen to me complain. She expressed her condolences for my terrible experience with the incompetent bunch at homedepot.com and bid me a pleasant day. Company states $0, then $100, and now $50, depends on who and when you talk to somebody. Home Depot told me it would be $100. I call Home Depot and they don't care, they tell you to call the rebate company. It's really all a rip off and based on consumers giving in to Home Depot and the rebate company - so the majority of rebates probably go un-paid.

On June 7, 2006 I placed an on-line order for four items. Three items never showed up but I was charged for the entire order. Since then I have been trying to either get Home Depot to send me the missing things or give me my money back. No such luck. On July 10th I requested a refund and the customer service person assured me it would be taken care of within 5 to 8 business days. Two weeks later I still had not received a refund. I called back making sure I called very early in the morning to avoid hold times of 1 hour plus. Miraculously I got the same operator as I got on July 10th. He again told me the refund would be issued in 5 to 8 business days. Of course nothing happened, no money was refunded.

I ordered a Patio Umbrella Base on 6/14/06. I received the base on 6/16/06 and realized I had ordered the wrong size. I contacted Homedepot.com customer service on 6/16/06 informing them of the error and requesting a return authorization which was provided. I was informed the product should be picked up within 10 business days. I contacted Homedepot.com customer service again on 7/20/06 indicating the product had not been picked up and was informed it would be another 3 to 5 days due to a backlog with UPS.
I contacted Homedepot.com customer service again on 8/01/06 and was then informed that their warehouse had not actually sent a pick up notification to UPS. They did so at that time and provided me a tracking number. I contacted UPS on 8/09/06 requesting information on the pick up and was informed that they had not received a Tracking Label from Homedepot.com and with out it could not pick up the product. I then contacted Homedepot.com customer service again and was informed that they would need to bring a resolution specialist into this issue. I was informed that a Tracking Label would be sent directly to me by 8/11/06 so I could either contact UPS myself or take the product into a UPS location to return it.
I contacted Homedepot.com customer service again on 8/16 reiterating all of the above and was informed that my information had been misplaced due to a Computer System foul up in July. At this point I was informed that an Escalation Team member was being brought into the process and I would be sent an email of the tracking information from UPS. I did in fact receive an email from Homedepot.com customer service with a tracking number on 8/18/08 indicating that the product would be picked up in the next couple of business days. I have been checking the UPS site and it appears that the new return request I was provided on 8/18/06 is in the same state as the one I was provided on 8/01/06 in that the corresponding Tracking Label has not been supplied to UPS. Today (08/22/06) I replied to the Customer Service email indicating I would be submitting a complaint through Consumer Affairs. I am an extremly frustrated consumer that will not purchase any other products from Homedepot.com under any circumstances.

Online Specials Memorial Weekend I went online Friday June 26th and they had a lot of online specials listed. I saw a Maytag gas dryer on sale for an excellent price marked as an Online Special for $582.39 down from $647.10. When I clicked to add it to my cart it showed the non special price. I called customer service to inquire, and after she confirmed she had the same problem, I was told it was most likely a glitch, so I had to speak to their Internet service department. After being on hold for at least 25 minutes, I called customer service again and begged them not to put me on hold. This service rep. was wonderful and she set up a 3 way call with someone in the appliance division. I was asssured the sale price would show up when the order was confirmed in a day or two and we said our goodbyes.
I went ahead with the online order after this assurance, well long story short, the salesperson called Tuesday the 30th to confirm order and finalize the information. The price she stated was again incorrect,I explained to the rep. the earlier discussion and the order was finalized. Or was it? I received a call an hour later and was told the Online Special price was not going to be honored, it took a conversation with a supervisor to finally settle things (I made a copy of the web page and I wasn't afraid to use it if I had to). I did receive the special price but WHAT A PAIN!! How many others were given the same load of crap. UPDATE-Delivery men were 2 hours late with my dryer. 8/16-Still waiting for the free delivery rebate.

I purchased several different items online from Home Depot. I called Home Depot on July 15, 2006 to get a return confirmation number as is required on the HD website. I waited nearly an hour for a real person to answer. Meanwhile the Home Depot theme song played over and over and over and over again (I can only assume to get customers to hang up and leave them the hell alone). When I finally did get through, a customer service rep. kindly gave me a confirmation number and said that a UPS driver would pick up my package for return in a couple days (that Thursday to be exact).
After a week or so went by and my package was still sitting on the front porch, I put in another call to HD customer service. I waited another 40 mins. for a response, and again the HD theme song played in my ear the entire time. Customer service finally answered, and told me that whoever advised that my package would be picked up the same week, was entirely wrong, and that it takes 10-14 days for processing, and then UPS would pick up my package. After waiting several days past the 14 day time limit I tried calling early in the morning hoping to avoid a long wait time once again. I was right. I only waited about 35 mins.
After explaining the situation for a third time, I was told that the problem would be taken care of by the (more efficient, better trained?) HD complaint department. This time my package would be picked up the following week. That following week has since come and gone and it's now a month later and still no sign of that big, shiny brown truck. As you may have already concluded, I will NEVER, EVER purchase another item from Home Depot online again! I would strongly urge others to avoid the online store as well, unless they just can't get enough of that Home Depot theme song and the customer service song and dance.

I attempted to make contact daily for two weeks - even holding for four hours once! All calls to the customer service care center ended up in India (where I got the worst reception, and followup). Whenever I got a US line, I would be transfered to another. It's as if the dog's tail does not know where the head is. Long story short: After finally contacting real people on August 9th, I was told that the screen would have to be returned then reordered via online. My free shipping would not be available and I would again be at the mercy of hoping the merchandise would arrive in good shape. I have opted to keep the screen with its tear - but to NEVER do business with homedepot.com again- ever. I would stronly advise the same for everyone reading this.
I will probably have to replace the retractable screen portion at my own cost sometime in the near future at a cost of approximately $75. I will do it directly through the manufacturer though, and avoid the homedepot.com hassles. They really have grown too fast for their britches. I called the 800 number on the website for questions regarding shipping and waited on hold for approximately 1 hour till I got to speak to someone that had a clue (ie supervisor) everyone else could only tell that my order was being processed at the warehouse. The person that I spoke with said the umbrella shipped on 7/3/06 and the 7 pc. patio set shipped that day.
I did not receive the patio set until 7/17/06 and umbrella still isn't here. On 7/24/06 I called the 800 number and sat on hold once again for over an hour. The person I spoke with told me the umbrella never shipped and that it was on backorder until 8/27/06. At that point, I decided to cancel my order for the umbrella. The person soposidly canceled the order and said I would not get charged for it. On 7/25/06, I received an email from Home Depot Customer care saying that the umbrella shipped via UPS on 7/25/06 and that it would be to me by 7/31/06.
At that point I became angry due to the fact that the person I spoke with the day before told me that it was on backorder and supposedly canceled my order. So once again I called the 800# and proceded to wait 1hr 5minutes to talk to someone that had a clue and she told me that the order was never canceled at the warehouse and that is why it shipped and that my credit card was charged when it shipped. Now I had to get in touch with UPS to try and refuse the delivery and they have to ship it back to the warehouse and then I will soposidly get a credit. It sounds really simple but I am sure I will have a problem with the credit process also...nothing has been easy with this transaction...this is HOME DEPOT I am dealing with not some no name company....how can you say that an item will arive in 5-7 business days and not get it until over a month later?

We purchased a new Honda mower from Home Depot. We used the mower a total of 5 times and the mower quit running. We took the mower back to Home Depot on June 9 and the sign on the wall stated you could make a return within 60 days with receipt. When we requested to replace the mower, we were told it had to be sent off for repairs. We pointed out the sign on the wall and the Home Depot employee pulls a piece of paper taped to the register (not viewable to customers) out stating it doesn't apply to power equipment.
We were then told the mower would be sent for repairs and would be ready the following Friday and we would get a call. When we didn't get the call that was promised to us, we called them. They told us it would be ready the following Tuesday and they would call. When they didn't call again, we called them and were told that we needed to speak to Lloyd in receiving, but Lloyd didn't work until the following day. We called Lloyd Wednesday morning and were told the piston walls were scored and it would cost more to repair than to replace the mower. We asked Lloyd how this could be since we only used the mower 5 times, the said it was due to lack of maintenance. My fiance' checked the oil in the mower before each use and even before we took it back to Home Depot -- the oil was fine. How could this have happened?
We got less than 3 hours of actual run time out of this $400 mower and our only recourse is to buy another mower when we didn't do anything to contribute to its breakdown. Also, our yard looks horrible because they never offered us a replacement in the mean time. Honda or Home Depot should replace the mower or give us our money back, as there was an obvious defect in it.

Almost as soon as I started using it, I noticed that the exhaust blew directly in my face, proposing a health hazard .Secondly, I realized that the cylinder also had a hydraulic leak that sprayed a fluid mist directly in my face as well. Both these problems were serious enough for me to discontinue using the faulty equipment and I phoned the store about my concerns. They instructed me to return the tool.
I was made to pay over seventy five dollars for a tool I only got about 30 minutes use out of and possibly a health problem. Home Cepot claims on its on-line ad "that when you need equipment and want quality, service and value for your money, the Home Depot Tool Rental Center offers top quality name brands, thats well maintained, and ready to use."
The log splitter appeared to have been missing a part causing the exhaust problem, and there was a small hole at the top of splitter's cylinder that sprayed fluid directly into my airway. I am very concernedf the harmful effects of breathing hydraulic fluids and exhaust fumes on my respiratory tract .The "knowledgeable associates" tightened the hitch so tight onto my 2" ball that it took them over forty minutes to install and remove it from my truck's receiver, making it impossible for me to remove it to position the splitter where I needed it to be.

One of the purchases in one of the departments on the day in question was for $271.37. I asked, and was assured that since I was spending over $3500 that day that this particular purchase would be part of the zero payment/interest program.
They gave me the wrong parts for that $271.37 item and it had to be returned and exchanged for product that was for an amount that was even less. Again, I was assured that it would be part of the zero interest/payment program because of the initial purchase that it was supposed to go with.
For some reason, the $271.37 kept disappearing and reappearing in the form of debits and credits on my account. I thought I had it all straightened out and payed the account, almost $10K, in full. After that, the $271.37 showed up again.

When I went to complete the payment on the $2900.00 Guardian Generator, I was told that it would be an additional $4199.65 over the initial deposit, because of additional circuits that had to be purchased in order to get the hot water, heat, and water, which were 20-amp circuits. I made the final payment on November 5, 2004.
After multiple telephone calls asking where my generator was, it was finally installed on Friday, January 31, 2004. Unfortunately, I was at work during the installation, but my wife was at home. Cemco Systems was again the contractor who did the complete installation. At the end of the day, the lead installer knocked on the door and informed my wife that they had finished the installation of the generator, but that they did not hook up the well pump because they did not realize that we had a well and it "would be too expensive for them to do it."
Their recommendation for her was to find someone else to do it cheaper. They also informed her that they could not hook up the heat pump because we had "purchased the wrong kind of generator for the kind of heat pump that we had."
Needless to say, I was furious since they were the ones who recommended the type of generator for us to buy in the first place. I immediately called Home Depot and spoke to the manager and a few other sales associates, one in particular who stated she was a liason between the contractor and the consumer, named Ginger. All agreed with me at the time that the only reason any reasonable person would buy a generator at that expense would be to have heat, water, and be free of flood during power outages. They assured me they would be back in touch with me by Monday of the next week. It is now Friday and of course I have not heard anything.

Now instead of waiting until January when next tax season is, I have to pay nearly $100.00 a month. It is a burden for me.

When I received the next 5 statements, I made the same phone call each month with the EXACT same results the service representative told me to disregard the bill, that they would take care of it. In May, 2003, I received a notice from a collection agency on behalf of Monogram Credit Card Bank of Georgia regarding my account with Home Depot. It stated that my account had been sold to them and the balance was now $2673.53. The balance with Home Depot was only $2099.23 which was not supposed to be due until July 3, 2003 based on the one year, no payments, no interest campaign.
I discussed this matter with Fran Bogen at Farrell & Seldin Attorney at Law Collection Agency. At the time, I was 8 months pregnant and could not personally handle the stress of the situation, so I settled the matter for $2138.82. It has now come to my attention that this collection is being falsely reported on my credit report. It is showing up as late payments as well. I have always maintained a credit score in the mid-700s (considered excellent). It is now only 675 because of this! I am buying a house now and it is going to cost me an addition point at closing because of the low credit score over $6700!

The only thing wrong with Robert's solution, of course, is that Monogram Credit Card Bank provides the store-brand credit cards for both Home Depot and Lowe's.

Now here is the kicker...on Saturday July 5th, I receive a call at 11:40 I answer it, they ask for my husband (he's the primary card holder) I say he's not here and before I can get out the rest of what I wanted to say, the girl says "thanks we'll call back"! Then on Sunday, 9:15am they call back again, same thing happens. Then I leave for most of the day, while I am gone, they call 10:18, 11:07, 11:41, 2:50, 3:29, 3:58, 4:31, 5:00.
Then Monday morning 8:50 am, after a night being up until 3am or later with stomach illness, they wake me up!! The conversation went like this "lady asks for my husband, he's not here ma'am, he's deployed fighting a war. Then she asks for me, this is me, she starts to ask me like 20 questions to verify that and I cut her short and ask who she is calling with and what she wants, well there is a payment past due blah blah and I cut her off again and tell her that it was only 2 weeks past due when I received the July bill and I immediately paid it but because of the freakin' holiday they won't have their money until Tues or Weds. And that I didn't apprecaite being woke up for a bill that wasn't even 30 days late, I could understand 100 calls a day if I was 30, 60 or 90 days but I wasn't and I'm sorry I forgot, but my husband is off fighting a war, I had to quit my job to stay home with our daughter because she was tramautized by him deploying again for the 2nd time in less than 3 years and didn't want me leaving to work everyday, then my grandmother found out she had cancer and died all within a matter of 2 or 3 weeks in June and that kind of took precedence over everything!"
She was like UH UH and just hung up on me. They are harrasing people with these consistent phone calls and making us feel like criminals just ebcause we forgot a payment and it was NOT even 30 days late...things happen but I got the next bill, noticed the payment was not made and made the June and July payments immediately, so why is that not sufficient for them to trust people. Call me whent he July payment is not made, call me when the first payment is over 30 days late, don't call when I am only 15 days late and call 10 times in 1 day.
