Do not buy any GE product. They do not stand behind the integrity of their products, they know when they sell it it is not going to work. You will go through months and many different repair companies and it will never be fixed. They will lead you on till you get so upset. You just go buy something else and have your money for what you got from them and there is nothing you can do.

Worst fridge and worst customer service!!!! I paid a few thousand dollars for a brand new fridge and I got a loud broken fridge!! And the nerve of them not only didn’t they refund me or fix it, they told me I had to pay if parts were broken!!!! Real nerve!!! I’ve been dealing with them for a year, only caused me aggravation. I don’t know how they’re still in business!!! Horrible. I wish I can give zero stars!

Absolutely pathetic quality product. Like many other people have said, the appliance quits working in some capacity (in our case the fridge quit cooling) within a few weeks to a couple months after going out of warranty. Then, the company wants to charge MORE than local repair shops just to show up to do diagnostics on their own lemon product. We had a dishwasher do a similar thing, also made by GE. Do not buy this company's pathetically low quality goods.

Bought it in 2024, it freezes everything, even with the temp turned up to 40, t makes noise (loud), the motor had to be replaced, the rails for the freezer drawer had to be replaced, now, the freezer light won't come on and it starting to make the loud noise again after being replaced two day prior! Less than a yr old! I give it a 2 only because I like the ice maker.

Replaced our 11 year old GE fridge with a Café model almost two years ago. GE promised a special deal only available to repeat buyers. Price was nothing special, no great deal. The Café is supposed to be top of the line. From day one, right hand door seal was wrinkled, needed replacement. Freezer door would not stay shut. 3 service visits later, the whole lower slide mechanism was replaced. Door shelf brackets were discovered to be malformed. Entire door replaced. Ice maker often melts the ice just enough so that it won't dispense reliably. I just open it up and knock the ice cubes free of each other. Service people are respectful and prompt (parts can take a long time to arrive). But they don't make up for all my problems. Fortunately all were covered under the warranty. No additional problems over the past 3/4 year but now just waiting for the compressor to fail as I've heard from other people's reviews. Don't buy one.

In mid-year 2022, I did a complete kitchen remodel which included purchasing several GE Profile appliances one of which was a side by side refrigerator. In less than 3 years, I am having to replace the refrigerator due to the fact that the compressor has failed. This was confirmed upon inspection of a certified appliance technician and the cost to replace the compressor would be as much as replacing the refrigerator with a new unit. Given the facts that the refrigerator was one of GE's top of their line products and being only less than three years old I am very disappointed in the quality of the product. With that I am also concerned about the longevity of all of the other GE products I purchased.

I honestly wish I could give negative stars. Our refrigerator is out of warranty, but with that being said, it's only two years old. We started to smell a "chemical like" smell in the fridge and freezer. Then, the "small" was affecting the taste of our food. We had two different service people come to help who could not smell. They were not helpful. We cleaned out the fridge. Replaced the water filter. The smell and the taste in our food is back. When I called back to file a complaint, I could have another tech come out and pay for the service again or GE would only replace this fridge at a discounted rate for us. They are not concerned that this refrigerator could possibly make my family sick. The model number is GSS25GYPGCFS. Make it's a fluke, but you think a huge company like this would care more about if one of their appliances was making a family sick. Makes me sad.

Updated on 07/03/2025: This is an update on my review from June 14th. After filing a complaint with the BBB, GE agreed to replace the fridge and cancelled the 12th repair ticket. So the delivery guys said I had 7 days (verified by GE) to return it if it had issues. Right off the bat (next day) - fridge is at 55 degrees, freezer is 20-set at factory recommendations. Door pops open on this one also and it is so loud I had to turn the TV up in the other end of the house!. After contacting GE by email (case worker who has yet to respond to multiple emails) and phone and being told yes it could be returned, I contacted one of the repair people, who said to turn the temp ALL THE WAY UP. Well that got the temp to 43-45 - still too warm! - and the freezer to 10 - (still) 20 but as he said, that is not cooling correctly. It runs constantly.
Many phone calls over the course of those 7days, each time, I was told I could return it (they had shipped the exchange in), but no one would initiate an exchange. I said I did not want a 3rd non working fridge and just wanted my money back. I was told told no, because I didn't pay for it!! Yeah I paid for the first fridge AND ALL MY LOST FOOD, not to mention the last 5 months of hassle and 11 service calls. Then I was told they could not talk to me because I filed the complaint with the BBB, who closed the complaint and refused to reopen after the exchange. The last few GE people I have spoken to have been extremely rude, a certain couple in particular. I guess I will have to eat the cost of the fridge and my food and I just went and bought another brand. Not a thing done on the 2nd fridge that didn't cool right from day 1!
Original Review: I bought a GE fridge in 2024. Before it was out of warranty the freezer wasn't freezing well and things in the refrigerator area were freezing-10 degrees difference between the freezer and fridge. The fridge has gone from freezing things to running warm. When you shut the refrigerator door the freezer door (still) pops open and I'd have to shut that. Fast forward to June 2025- My 12th repair is scheduled to come out next week. 5 different repair companies, 9 different techs-11- soon to be 12 - days of waiting (8-5) and changing my schedule to accommodate the repair companies over the last 5+ months. They've replaced seals, the control board, now it's maybe a sealed system issue or compressor-- c'mon! The last temp check (by the tech), after the control board replacement, was 24 degrees in the freezer and 52 in the fridge. And a week before they could get anyone out. Obviously a lot of lost food and even 24 for the freezer is not safe.
It is still under warranty because the problems started before the warranty ran out. But really, my only fridge, it's summer and I'm a senior. I was told to go rent a refrigerator or go buy a dorm one-- Really GE??? I had initially been told by GE that after 6 service calls it would be replaced. Total BS. The last repair company that was out, called GE techs each time with diagnostics and GE would always suggest something else. These repair people can only do what GE tells them to do since it's warranty. And, while some GE customer service people seem to want to help- There are some really rude ones! When I asked to talk to a supervisor, she hung up on me. My case worker with GE has not returned emails or any sort of contact for almost 2 months.
I'm beyond mad now-- I have to wait yet another week to see if maybe that is the problem and is corrected. I have spent hours on the phone, days waiting for unresolved repairs, I spent good money on my fridge and food and all's so far lost. "Go rent a refrigerator while (we screw around) trying to get yours fixed for the 12th time". The curb wouldn't be my first choice on where to stick the fridge!

I would not recommend purchasing a GE appliance. 1. In 2021 I purchased a high end Ge Cafe refrigerator/freezer CSB48WP2NS1. I paid $7,889.26 for a built-in style refrigerator/freezer that included installation. I had to pay an additional $175 to have adjustments made to my cabinets so that it would fit. The month after the warranty was up, the motor began running loud and after much complaining by me... The warranty was extended an additional 2 months and a service call was done which repaired this noisy issue. 2. In 2023 the icemaker was replaced to the tune of $371.89. 3. in 2025 the evaporator fan motor was replaced to the tune f $591.05
And to add injury to insult, I was given a choice of water/ice dispenser or no? I chose no. Well the design of the icemaker is such that there is a hole where the ice goes into the dispenser. There is no "cover" for this opening and consequently every time we go to scoop out ice cubes, a half dozen ice cubes come tumbling through that hole and onto the floor. Every serviceman tells me that there is no "cover" for that specific design.
My previous KitchenAid lasted 20 years with only 2 service calls at the end of it's life. If only I had paid an extra $1000 and waited an extra 1-2 months for a replacement KitchenAid! Never again. You get what you pay for. Both servicemen indicated that they get lots of service calls on GE refrigerator/freezer products and the last one recommended I stay with Kitchen Aid or SubZero for built ins.

We purchased a GE refrigerator in January from Lowe's. Within the first 2 days we noticed it was not cooling correctly. Too late to return it to Lowe's. The refrigerator was too warm and humidity was 60% to 90%. The freezer was well below zero, down to negative 16, frost on the food and humidity 50 to 65% . Dairy and fruit was spoiling in the refrigerator in 3 days. Frozen food was covered in frost. GE replaced the refrigerator so we upgraded to a better model, GYE22GYNKFS. NOT GOOD either. This fridge is doing the same thing. Fridge temps range from 32 to 44 with humidity 40 to 90%. Moisture in our food containers, fruit is wrinkly after 3 days, bread is soggy and the paper milk cartons are squishy. The freezer temp ranges from 6 to negative 13 with humidity 50 to 65%. Our food is still spoiling in the refrigerator and freezer.
GE says the unit is working fine. So not the truth when the temperature and humidity is so off in the freezer and refrigerator. The content temperature matches the thermometers we have in the refrigerator. GE does not believe us since the thermometer in the walls of the refrigerator says the temperature is lower than what we report. This unit was not working correctly since the day it was delivered. They have serviced it twice and will no longer service it because they feel it is working properly. They apparently do not stand behind their products. We will not buy from GE again. Their response to us is they will use our situation for improving future products. What a joke!!

I purchased a GE Profile, top of the line. In two years had to replace because it wasn't cooling. Brought another, but not a Profile, because they were the only ones who had the size that would fit in the corner. Now it's making a loud noise that I had Sears come and take care of for over $600. The problem doesn't seem to be resolved, and I had issued with Sears with the home warranty that they would not comply with. Thought they had fixed it, but it's starting to make the noise again.
Thought I had gotten in touch with a GE person, but I was told someone would get in touch with me my phone, I just had to pay a $5 refundable fee, but in small letters I would have to, like Sears pay $49 a month until you cancel and believe me cancelling from Sears was almost impossible. And when I finally got in touch with a person, they charged me $570 to cancel. Don't do Sears and don't buy GE. Also had to replace a Profile stove and an over the range microwave. Brought those altogether and apparently, I was given the worst of the bunch. That was out 10 years ago. Thought any given one would last longer. The only reason the dishwasher is still here is that we don't use it.

I bought my GE Refrigerator 11 months ago and it’s already not cooling. I called customer service and they seemed very nice but not very helpful. GE has no services in my area so they had to set me up with Titan Appliance and solutions which never answer the phone and then their voicemail is full 80% of the time so you cannot leave a message. Finally after 1 month of my fridge still out, they supposedly fixed it with a new compressor and it still doesn’t work. Titan doesn’t call back half the time and all GE does is tell me I’ll have to request a locating service to find another company to fix it and that can take another 24-48 hrs. This is ridiculous and they should have made more effort to make this right. This fridge is a lemon and should be replaced by GE with a new one or give me my money back so I can get a different brand. Also, initially the ice maker took 1 month to fix when it was brand new!!! Don’t buy a GE!!

We purchased a GE Profile fridge which was delivered on 12/27/24. On 1/20/25 the fridge quit cooling and working. Lowe's would do nothing and we began talking to GE customer service. They sent D3S to our home on 1/23/25. Dave with D3S told us the compressor was out and he recommended a replacement. GE would not replace and ordered a compressor. Dave with D3S came back to our home on 2/11/25 and while taking the unit apart discovered it's more than compressor. He thinks the evaporator is out. He said we could quote him. He didn't know if a new compressor and new evaporator would fix the problem. Contacted GE customer service. They still refused to replace.
2/21/25 Dave came back out with new evaporator and compressor and the unit has a leak in the wall. 2/21/25 he deemed it unfixable. We waited 32 days to get a statement that the unit is unfixable. GE kept trying to fix not repair. Now we must wait 24-48 hours for GE customer service to call us to tell us how they will replace. My husband is terminally ill with ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease in a wheelchair. The until smelt like smoke on 1/20/25 and we contacted our local fire department who came to our home and smelt the burning smell and unplugged the unit.
We immediately contacted GE and made them aware and they still didn't help our family. I have never left a poor review for any business as I feel strongly that issues do happen. This situation is beyond my good nature to understand or accept. I purchased a new GE refrigerator in July of 2021. It was the second best in the GE line at the time of purchase. At a year and 2 months I had to replace the refrigerator fan motor assy which I did not complain about and just paid to have replaced. So here we are at 3 1/2 years old and my GE certified technician states that my unit is junk due to a sealed systems issue, he also informed me that the line is bent that would have been a production issue. I contact GE to see if there is anything they can do to help and also inform them of the bent line, with some hesitation they stated that they would give me 80-90% off the price of parts and I would be responsible for the labor of $900.
Per GE's request I had the appliance center get me a parts list, upon calling GE back to with that list to have them order the parts as they stated they would do, they then told me they would only cover 25% of the parts bill and the lady I spoke to was very disrespectful and unwilling to help or make the situation right, so I was lied to. Most of the appliances in my house are higher model GE products, I feel as though I would be considered a valued customer (someone they would want to keep happy). I was very let down and disappointed to find they were unwilling to make right their statements or compensate appropriately for the faulty unit I was sold. The cost to repair this unit is more than I paid for the refrigerator new. Moving forward I will not purchase another GE appliance. Very disappointed with the customer service, quality of the product and cost to me for their inadequacies.

We had someone from Bodewell come out four times and “fix” it until we got a different person to come out and PD finally let us know they would have to replace it…
Three years later, we the replacement went hot… First the freezer and within two days, the refrigerator. It has been exactly one month and two days, we have had two men from Bodewell and one from Happyhome come out to fix it and each time we have to wait to have parts ordered. GE Cares, Bodewell, and HappyHome are not fitting names for these companies. I would not recommend any GE appliances even to my worst enemy. GE is a piss poor company that does not care about quality or its customers. It shows that on GE rating score of 1.2. I purchase 2 Refrigerators, 1 Stove, 1 Microwave, 1 Dishwasher, 1 Landrey Washer and 1 Laundry Dryer at the same time 6 years ago. During the past 3 months the laundry washer and dishwasher needed to be replaced due to no parts available or just too costly to repair. Now one of my Refrigerators went out. I am no young kid starting out. I am 68 years old and have purchased these products before and had them last 15 + years before needing any maintenance of replacement.
Given that, I hope that the GE management enjoys the bonuses given. I believe that GE needs to take a new approach to their quality standards. Why should I pay for extended warranty when GE management refuses to improve the long-term quality of these type of appliances other than to make more money. Please fix your quality before anyone else suffers this same fate.

We have been 41 days without a working refrigerator. 2 technicians took the back wall off and the components have burned, as well as a busted compressor and Freon leak. The safety of this appliance is obviously compromised. GE has been incredibly inefficient at getting this resolved. It’s an obviously faulty product and needs to be replaced. But they have failed to take care of this in a timely manner. They have slow played me, put my family of 5 without a refrigerator for over a month. It’s been broken longer than it’s worked. Hated to replace my beloved 13 y/o white GE profile model which had issues eventually - but I LOVED it anyway! Considered paying $1700 to repair because I LOVED IT. Purchased Model # GFE26JGMW because there is no white in the GE Profile and the GE Cafe's white model has "blingy" gold trim handles. This fridge LOOKS GREAT but runs LOUDLY w/ a crunching noise. I was afraid it wouldn't last a month. Very limited shelf arrangement options. Had to struggle with both hands to collapse the "collapsible" shelf. Shelf rubs plastic on plastic screeches loudly and the front edges of the shelf are unaligned when pulled back in place. I had to finagle it to look like it should.
You might want to pick what position you like best and leave it there. My old Profile's collapsible shelf glided with ease. CRISPERS DO NOT SEAL!!! CRISPERS DO NOT SEAL!!! Lower freezer drawer drags upper drawer out when it is pulled out which obstructs view of items in bottom drawer. In order to see food in bottom drawer I pushed upper all the way in which causes it to go over the back of bottom drawer. The bottom drawer then HITS the upper drawer when pushed back in. You'd have to hold the drawers while looking for items in bottom. DRAWERS SHOULD BE ON SEPARATE TRACKS!! This is a "starter" bottom freezer frig for sure.
It is too much work to use the features - outside of just keeping your food cold. Didn't "feel like" I had a GE product at all - or maybe to be fair I should say it didn't feel like I had my original GE Profile (not sure of the quality of the new GE Profile - because it doesn't come in white - but consider paying the extra $$ to purchase it instead). Disappointing. It felt like getting a dollar store brand of your favorite toy instead of the real deal on Christmas morning. Two stars because its a GE, it looks great, door features seemed to work well, it gets cold and it is WHITE. Sent it back though and purchased my first Whirlpool instead. I'm praying. :).

We purchased a GE Fridge Model #PVD28BYNCFS in 2022. Starting in November 2023 we have had this unit repaired for the same issue 3 times. Nov-2023, Feb-2024, May-2024 and now it is experiencing the same issue. Each time it goes out we must unload into another available unit or ice chests and throw away what cannot be salvaged. Originally, I was advised that if they cannot fix the issue, they would replace the unit. We are now on the 4th time with the same issue in the last 8 months. GE is not willing to replace the unit. They claim I do not fall within the parameters of replacement. They want to service it again. Why, so it will last only 2 months so I can throw out food again and have to go through this same ordeal every 2 months!
Needless to say, our patience on this matter have run out, not to mention the cost of replacing lost food. I advised them I cannot wait 4 to 5 days for someone to come out only to have to wait another week for parts to come in and then have to repeat this in another 2 months. At this point I told them it was unacceptable and we would rather purchase another unit at the local Home Store to get up and running in lieu of having to go through this once again in 2 months. The response, "OK, Well if there is nothing else I can help you with, have a great day." Absolutely unbelievable! No more GE products in my households!

My new $800 GE top-freezer refrigerator (Model No. GTS19KYNRFS) is so unbelievably noisy it can be heard 20 feet away, through walls. It is unusable in a living space. Although the refrigerator is still under warranty, GE will not replace it, because it is cooling adequately. When pressed for options, the smooth, experienced GE supervisor says she would sell it for $500 on Facebook marketplace or Craigslist. According to a Home Depot appliance manager, the most expensive GE model isn't as noisy. Good to know; however, the nine GE Appliances I just purchased will be the last money I give to this company. And, after my experience with five different GE "customer care" representatives and the GE supervisor, I'm sure they're absolutely devastated to lose my business.

I ordered a refrigerator from GE Appliance store online. The website said it was available in my area but the soonest delivery date was about two weeks away so I scheduled the soonest delivery date approximately two weeks later. The afternoon before the delivery I received an "email", not a call or text as I requested, that the refrigerator I ordered was back ordered. When I called and asked how long it would be they had no idea, but were hoping in another 2 weeks. How could the company that is producing and selling these not know sooner than the day before delivery, that it would become back ordered.

We purchased a GE refrigerator/freezer in June of 2020. Two major problems with it. First the handle to the freezer fell off about 6 months ago. Secondly, now the ice cube machine no longer works. I grew up in the 1960s-1970s with Philco appliances. My dad managed W/D plant so we received a new Refrigerator/ freezer, W/D, Upright Freezer, color TV, and range every year. When my dad took another job in 1967 my parents purchased all of the appliances. Guess what? They finally replaced them after I graduated in 1978! They were built to last! Unlike today's that are designed to start failing after 4-6 years.

Within a few months, the ice maker was not working (loud clicking noises where we have to use a blowdryer to defrost to make it work) and now the freezer stopped working. Service rep came out twice over past few weeks and still not fixed (something about a part not communicating/making a connection). After two service calls, we were just informed we have to unplug the refrigerator for 48 hours as the ice build-up is so bad that he cannot replace one of two parts. Warranty has come and gone. Don't know what recourse there is if it's not fixed but here we are. I thought spending over three thousand on a fridge would last more than two years. GE: never again.

Purchased the 27 cu. ft. French Door refrigerator (Model #GNE27JYMFS) from a Big Box store. 4 days after delivery, the freezer stopped working, and fridge wasn't cooling as expected. A GE repair specialist came out and determined that it needed freon. Apparently it isn't entirely uncommon for the factory to fill them inadequately. So, after another 4 days, the freezer stopped working again. A second visit by the same GE repair specialist yielded a "non repairable" designation. We were instructed to call their Customer Service line again to schedule a replacement. We were then told that the model was not in stock at the regional warehouse and would be almost 4 weeks before it would be available. And, we needed to call back 10 days out to "order" one.
After a few days we called back to see if they could do better than that (second chances and all...). However, after spending yet another hour plus on the phone, we only learned that the new estimated availability was now another 5 days later. A "Customer Advocacy" supervisor spent a little time on the phone with me only to effectively tell me that this was the best they could do, take it or leave it. OR, I could take on the responsibility of contacting the retailer to see if they might have one in stock to do a "dealer credit" swap to get one to me sooner. This has only resulted in 4 more calls and still no resolution.
I wish I could say I am shocked at how terrible the customer service has been with GE. Unfortunately, I guess this is what we should expect these days. Apparently, Haier isn't concerned about the repetitional damage they have inflicted upon a once proud, American appliance manufacturer's name given that they are a Chinese firm. I would only caution against dealing with GE appliances as they are not at all concerned with customer satisfaction (or quality products, apparently). And, God forbid you get one of their lemons (as I did). They will not go out of their way to make it right. They will expect you to do ALL of the work to get a working appliance - hope you have lots of time and don't mind doing a lot of work on their behalf. Also, I wouldn't get rid of that old fridge until you can confirm that your new one will actually work.

I'm approaching this from purely a factual standpoint. The facts in my situation speak for themselves - all my frustrations aside, this is absolutely the worst experience I've ever had with a fridge and a company. We purchased our GE Profile 27.9-cu ft Smart French Door Refrigerator with Ice Maker, water and Ice dispenser and Door within Door November 29th 2021. Nov 29th 2023 the fridge began to go out. The exact 2 year mark, this fridge was no longer functional. We attempted countless service visits from the store we purchased this fridge from and with each attempt, the fridge would fail in another way. The freezer was the first thing to go out and consistently the problem throughout the entire 3 month long journey to resolution. To this day, we still do not have a working fridge/freezer.
After the company admitted this was something they could no longer fix, they reached out to GE. GE is absolutely the worst company to deal with - they do not care one bit about taking care of you. Their customer service department gives you the run around, puts even their own service techs on hold for over 25 mins before assisting them for 2 mins, and will not provide any reasonable solution other than making you jump through all of their hoops. We had one of the rudest techs visit our house and complain almost the entire time he was in my kitchen. I have been more than patient living out of coolers with ice, making countless trips to the store to buy a little at a time, and trying to remain calm with the company as they work through each of the issues.
All in all, this is an unreliable fridge for the amount of money you're putting toward an appliance. The company highly recommends you purchase the extended warranty - my guess is they have no faith in their products. After order and shipping 9 parts to my house for the tech to repair, this was still a broken appliance. Wil never purchase another GE in my life.

I have only written a couple reviews in my entire life and felt compelled to inform everyone I can of how bad a product and how terrible the Customer Service is at GE so that I can help others in preventing them from purchasing a GE Product and experiencing what we have experienced as a result of a terrible appliance. The GE GE Profile - 27.9 Cu. Ft. 4-Door French Door Smart Refrigerator with Door-In-Door - Stainless Steel is the Worst Appliance I have ever purchased and worst company I have ever had to deal with for Customer service. I will NEVER buy another GE Product again based on the quality and the terrible customer service. I purchased the GE Profile 27.9 4 door refrigerator May 20, 2023 from Best Buy. This refrigerator went out beginning of August, 2023 (less than 3 months after purchase) and we lost over $200 of groceries.
It was easy to schedule a service call, however the first tech misdiagnosed the problem. The second tech / service call showed up and couldn't make the repair due to the mis-diagnoses and wrong parts being shipped. A third service call was set up after we waited over a month for the parts, then he found the problem to be completely different and went to his shop to get different parts and soldering equipment. I spent hours on phone calls and waiting on technicians trying to get it repaired. The repair was finally completed Oct 10, 2023.
Now December 12, 2023, the GE Refrigerator goes out again. Just spent another day waiting on a Technician on December 12, 2023, who now needs to come back January 5, 2024 after parts were ordered and delivered. Now I will have another wasted 1/2 - full day waiting on service to get my new refrigerator working again. I just spent another 1 hour and 6 minutes wasted on a phone call with another GE Customer Service person and told I need to wait on my repair - Meanwhile we still don't have a working refrigerator. I don't wish this on anybody and STRONGLY RECOMEND NOT BUYING ANY GE APPLIANCES based on the service and NOT standing behind their product.

I do not usually write negative reviews because I prefer to approach life with a positive outlook. However, as an interior designer, I feel it's important to warn others that GE Appliances' Cafe line is aesthetically pleasing but highly unreliable. Despite their one-year warranty covering service and parts, the frequency at which their appliances break down is unacceptable. One of my clients has been experiencing issues with their Cafe French Door Freezer for the past six months, despite it being less than a year old.
The freezer has defrosted multiple times, which has caused the ice maker and water dispenser to stop working. Every time a GE technician would come to diagnose the problem, they would order parts and return two weeks later to fix it. And then, within a month, the freezer would break down again. According to GE's policy, if an appliance has been fully serviced/repaired four times, it will be deemed non-repairable and replaced with a new unit. A full-service repair is when a technician conducts a diagnostic check and then repairs the appliance. However, in this case, GE has sent technicians to my client's home several times too many for those diagnostic checks and completed at least four required full-service calls, including replacing crucial parts like freezer freon.
To provide some context, the freezer unit is less than a year old and has broken down for the fifth time after its fourth completed service repair by a GE technician just two weeks ago. When I scheduled the fourth repair for the end of November, the customer service representative extended our warranty for another nine months. She explained that given the rate of breakdowns, the freezer was likely to break again soon, so she wanted to ensure that we had no problems getting a full replacement when that happened.
Unfortunately, now that the freezer has broken down for the fifth time in less than a year, GE has denied a replacement after dozens of calls and several hours on the phone with their service department and customer relations. This is unacceptable. GE Appliances must be held accountable for their lack of product reliability and customer service. If you are considering purchasing from GE, save yourself time and money. The Cafe appliance line may look good, but it's not worth it!

In May of 2020 GE Monogram Customer relations offered to replace my 42" Monogram refrigerator which had a multi year history of defrost and evaporation cycle problems. This included ice buildup on the freezer wall and ceiling surrounding the fan causing extreme howling noise, inability to maintain temperature and water leakage onto my Kitchen wood floors that resulted in significant damage to the wood floors and cabinet. After many attempts by GE Factory service to resolve the problem they offered to replace the refrigerator with a new model if I agreed to pay approx $6,500. I agreed believing my Monogram problems were over. Within months Sept 2021 the new refrigerator had identical problems as the old. Water leaked again onto my wood floors and the fan motor became loud. GE factory service came out, same technician who worked on the old unit. He checked various component concluded the door seal may have been the cause.
January 2023, (yep) water leakage release onto the wood floor. Fortunately we were home and were able to prevent floor damage. Same GE factory rep came out and indicated that this model defrost and evaporation system had a high frequency of failure but his solution would solve the problem by plugging the hose that allowed the water to exit the unit. There has been no leakage since January but we have frequent intermittent hauling coming from the fan which is a indication that there is ice build up around the fan.
Since Sept this year a new GE factory service technician has attempted to resolve this issue. The previous technician had over 20 years experience. This technician joined GE approx one year ago and previously was a fire rescue medic. He made four attempts at resolving the problem ordering different parts only to find upon receipt that they were not for this model. He tried to receive guidance from GE engineering, their solution was to caulk two very small opening in the ceiling of the freezer fan compartment..
Since January of 2021 GE Monogram customer relations has sent me two letters extending the warranty for this refrigerator through May of 2024 for this problem. If it was to reoccur it would be repaired at no cost to me. They have not billed for any of these service calls. The day following the last service call, I received a letter from GE Monogram customer relations stating that my 3year old Monogram was NON REPAIRABLE, but they would give me a special 7 day offer to purchase a new refrigerator for $4,816.04. It is very clear to me that this model has inherent design flaws in the defrost and evaporation system. In regard to their offer for replacement they need to HONOR their commitment of warranty, starting perhaps by sending out a more experienced service tech.

Think hard before buying GE Monogram appliances. ‘GE Appliances' is no longer the well-respected GE brand. We only recently learned that GE’s appliance business unit was acquired by Haier in 2016. Perhaps the 1/5 BBB customer review rating should be a clear indication but read on for our experience. Our 4 yo GE Monogram side by side 48", counter depth, uber expensive (supposedly implying better quality and customer service), refrigerator stopped cooling in Feb 2023.
For 6 months Haier made multiple diagnostic visits and multiple repairs (including months of parts delays). First, they replaced the temperature probe, the drip tray with heater, and the temperature cutoff -- as assessed by their own diagnostics. The unit failed within a week. They returned to re-diagnose and then months later (after more parts were ordered) re-replaced the temperature cutoff (same part, now replaced twice) and replaced the motherboard. The unit failed again within a week.
Then they came back on two separate instances to diagnose the unit again while being guided by their TAG team. During the second of these visits Haier diagnosed that a section of the 'red wire' (along the which much of the earlier repair work was conducted) is damaged. Haier claims that the section of red wire which is damaged is actually buried in the insulation. They haven’t provided an explanation for how the buried section of the red wire could have been damaged only after multiple diagnostic and repair visits. Not only is the buried red wire not accessible, but there is no reasonable explanation for how it perhaps could have been damaged except due to manipulating exposed sections of the red wire during repairs. Only Haier manipulated the unit since Feb 2023 and replaced multiple parts along the exposed sections of the red wire.
Haier hasn’t provided any further technical explanations and because the buried section of red wire is inaccessible, Haier has deemed the unit unrepairable. In questioning their assessment and asking them to repair the supposedly buried red wire, Haier has pointed to technicians not being allowed to make such repairs. A 4 yo, $10,000 GE Monogram fridge, is now unrepairable. In an unhelpful written response from customer service Haier provides no explanation for our technical inquiry and instead says “regardless of how the unit was made to be non-repairable, the best thing we can offer for a unit outside of warranty is an age based discount into a new one.” As a result, Haier wants us to pay $5,000 to subsidize the cost of the replacement, claiming if we had the extended warranty, we wouldn’t incur the $5,000.
We have described our technical concerns with Haier’s repair service in detail. We have received no technical explanations from customer service about damage to the buried red wire. What we did receive was an email minimizing our repair mess by saying "regardless of how the unit was made to be non-repairable....” Dealing with patronizing emails and a $5,000 bill just adds to the burn of dealing with 6 months of failed diagnostic and repair service which has now resulted in an unrepairable $10,000, 4 yo fridge. It only makes us further question Haier’s latest diagnosis of a damaged buried red wire.
With no further information from Haier, the only plausible explanation we can come up with is that Haier damaged the exposed section of red wire during repairs, resulting in possible damage to the buried section of the red wire. As such, Haier should honor its repair warranty. Either fix the supposedly damaged buried red wire (which they say they won’t due to Haier repair restrictions) or pay in full for the replacement. Our original warranty, whether lapsed or standing, is completely irrelevant in this case.
As of June 13, 2023, the latest response from Haier to our repeated technical inquiry about failure of buried section red wire is another templated reply from customer service: “I apologize for this situation, we do want to help in any way that we can. The best thing we can offer is a discount into a new unit.” This non-response only reinforces Haier’s avoidance to finding/admitting Haier’s repair mistakes. We are exploring what we do next.

My new french door refrigerator freezer motor sounded odd from the get-go, and completely stopped cooling 4 months after being placed in service. The refrigerator came with a standard Magnuson-Moss repair-or-replace warranty. Here's where things got ugly. I got onto a customer service do loop immediately on contacting GE, in that the website asked for my zip code and then said I need to call GE, and the customer service ARU would not do anything other than text me the website address. When I finally reached a person, she acknowledged my "urgent" (her word) situation and passed me to a customer "advocate," who turned out to be nothing but the first in a long line of recorded messages and unhelpful GE employees I reached after long, long, long waits on hold.
This advocate advised that GE had no one to help me in my area (house is in a small town). I naively thought this meant they would have to locate a service provider and would actually do so, because honorable people and companies do what they say they will do, particularly when they say it in writing. Over the next two weeks and countless telephone calls (initiated by me), GE sending someone to the wrong address in the wrong town, GE advising me two different times of companies who would be handling the service call who had never heard from GE and who did not service GE appliances at all, GE finally admitted that it could not service my appliance and had no intention of trying or of replacing my appliance. So, two weeks wasted, with no refrigerator over the holiday season, and I was left with a dead refrigerator and to my own devices for solving the problem.
It would have been possible to send a repair person from a nearby town, although that would have meant paying mileage, or to simply ship a new refrigerator, so the obvious conclusion is that GE does not honor its written warranties if it determines that to be inconvenient and expensive. I contacted GE executives directly and got the purchase price less delivery charges reimbursed. Do not do business with this company.

There was an issue with the freezer not getting cold enough to freeze my ice cream and fruit as well as there were items, like salad in the drawers, freezing and being ruined. After 4 repair technician that came to “fix” the issue - the 1st one said, "It’s working fine" and "You’re just keeping the freezer door open too long."
The 2nd one said the compressor was faulty or there wasn’t enough refrigerant in the system and will need to be replaced. At this point she said, "We (GE) can send another repair tech" who agreed with with the 2nd repair that the compressor needed to be replace.
The repair tech called it in and his company would order the parts. 10 days later I called the GE case manager to find out what’s going on since I haven’t heard anything - I was told that she will know what parts to order by the end of the day (spoke to someone other than the case manager). Two weeks later I got a call from the “GE repair business” that the compressor came in but it was damaged and would have to reorder it. Well 3 weeks later I call them back and the person who answered the phone said that “we have all the parts” and can send out a technician in 5 days.
When he came to “repair” the fridge he said, "It is working fine" and if I wanted to replace the compressor (which he “happened” to have one on hand) it would cost me $1300. He said he didn’t have any order to replace the compressor (so why the hell did he happen to have one, that took weeks to get after ordering, on hand). So after weeks of dealing with GE and the companies that they use I still have a refrigerator that's faulty. And the day after the last repair technician left, GE and their incompetent case manager closed the case without even reaching out to me. Don’t buy GE - crap products now and worse customer service..

I purchased a Cafe refrigerator at the end of March. On July 28th my refrigerator and freezer stopped cooling. On July 29th I contacted GE (held for over an hour) and was told that they did not have any technicians available in my area (I live in Northern Virginia) and they would forward my information and have customer relations call me within 48 business hours. So that actually meant 4 days since it was Friday. Tuesday August 2nd I called again and was told that they didn't have any technicians available and they would reimburse me if I used someone local. I called a local company and they arrived the same day. I was told that the relay was bad and the part would have to be ordered from GE. One week later the part was delivered and the technician came out to install.
I was up and running for less than two days before it stopped cooling again. I called the technician again and this time he determined that the control board needed to be replace. Two days later the new control board arrived and the technician connected it and the refrigerator would not work. After diagnosing further he determined that the compressor was bad and he recommended to GE that it be replaced. GE denied the replacement and sent another technician out with a different company that could not help me and told me that he also believes the refrigerator needs to be replaced....Well GE denied the claim today.
I have sent two emails to my customer relations person (Courtney). He has yet to respond or follow up with me. The only contact I have with GE is when I hold for a minimum of 1.5 hours to get a representative on the phone and they tell me that Courtney will followup with me...So here I am with no refrigerator and no plan of repair or replacement and a customer support person that doesn't care to call anyone back. I will NEVER buy another GE appliance and I would suggest that to anyone reading this post.

I contacted GE warranty service department. No service techs were available until 6/8/2022. I had to throw away approximately $600 worth of food that had spoiled due to the refrigerator not working. On 6/8/22 the service tech examined the refrigerator and determined it needed a new compressor. An order was placed by the technician Order ##**. The original compressor part #WR87X41647 is no longer available. The new compressor part #WR87X37686 is backordered and will not be delivered until 7/25/22.
I have seen other complaints online regarding this particular GE refrigerator model about the compressor failing within months of purchase. I have a strong suspicion GE is aware there is a problem with the original compressor because the original compressor part is no longer available. They should not have sold this model with a known problem. Continuing to sell a faulty product is a deceptive business practice and should be considered fraud or at the very least a bad business practice. I now have a refrigerator that does not work and yet I have to continue making payments to Best Buy. GE needs to make this right and send me a replacement refrigerator immediately or refund the entire purchase amount immediately. A refrigerator is a necessity, not an optional appliance. It is unacceptable for a brand-new refrigerator to have a compressor fail within 104 days of delivery. Refrigerators are supposed to be long lasting appliances.

DO NOT BUY A GE CAFE REFRIGERATOR!!! I have been having issues with 2 GE CAFE refrigerators. I have contacted GE Customer Relations several times and have been overly patient with GE. My patience of over 3 years has been spent so I am filing complaint online today and make current and potential future GE consumers aware of the poor customer service and product guarantees.
I originally had issues with my original GE CAFE and I had an extended warranty. I had it serviced around 3 times and GE sent out 3rd party technicians that were not trained to high quality service level. The last 3rd party technician came out on the 3rd call and cut the refrigerator's wires too short. I demanded a GE Official Certified Technician come out and they evaluated my GE CAFE Refrigerator and said it was not repairable since it was INCORRECTLY repaired by the 3rd party technician sent by GE. I was very frustrated and contacted GE Customer Relations to resolve the issue. They never admitted they were at fault and it took several calls for them to help me replace my refrigerator.
GE should have offered to replace my refrigerator since it was their FAULT that I needed to replace the refrigerator. However, they did not replace my refrigerator, instead they offered me a very low amount of a prorated credit to purchase a new GE Refrigerator. They low balled me since the refrigerator was not very old and it was GE's FAULT that it needed to be replaced. After several calls with GE Customer Relations they slightly raised the GE refrigerator by a SMALL amount. I was already over 1 month without a refrigerator working so I had to settle and get the small credit and pay a higher price for the new GE Refrigerators. (I only bought GE because it matched all of my other GE appliance that I bought in my remodeled kitchen (stovetop, ovens, dishwasher, microwave)). This is only the start of my GE Customer Relations issues.
In the beginning of 2019 I purchased another GE CAFE refrigerator to replace the refrigerator noted in the paragraph above. However, within the 1st year I had issues with the new GE CAFE Refrigerator. It was under the GE Warranty and I contacted to have the refrigerator serviced since the food in my refrigerator was freezing and it was leaking water.
Since the start of the service on my GE CAFE Refrigerator that began in early 2020, I have had technicians come out at least 12 times and called GE Customer relations at least 30 times with at least a 2 hour wait each time! I didn't want to deal with 3rd party undertrained/cheaper technicians so I ALWAYS asked for an official GE Technician. I have asked several times for GE Customer Relations to REPLACE the DEFECTIVE GE Refrigerator that I paid a lot for and also an extended warranty. GE, you need to STAND BY YOUR PRODUCT. Each time I get the same response from GE Customer Relations that they are concerned with my issue but can only give me a small credit amount. I don't want to make the same mistake and get a small credit and buy a brand new overpriced GE Product so I am waiting for GE to REPLACE their product as they should.
I will spend 2 hours tomorrow waiting for GE Customer Relations and ask them for the fifth time to REPLACE their warranted DEFECTIVE product. Based on my history with GE Customer Relations, I will probably have their technician come out and try to fix it but the recurring icing of my refrigerator will happen. I have lost at least $600 in my family food that have frozen in my refrigerator over the past 2 years. I have also been home for each service technician to come and fix the GE Refrigerator.

I was thrilled to find a refrigerator Made in the USA. Unfortunately, Made in the USA does not necessarily mean "quality product" as in the old days. Refrigerator was installed Dec., 2016. At the advice of the appliance shop owner, bought the extended warranty as he said there may be problems with the computer parts. In Nov., 2019, the drain hose plugged and that was covered under the original warranty. In Oct., 2020, it happened again. This was NOT covered and cost over $90 to repair. Claimed "it was not part of the refrigerator".
Now, it has happened a THIRD time and was told by the extended warranty people that it is not covered because it is not a mechanical problem. Said extended warranty does not extend the original warranty!! Am I to expect this to happen every year? I would like to also mention that there was a time where the front panel died; no lights and no water. A new door was ordered but oddly, the panel turned back on before the new door was installed and has not been a problem since. As far as I am concerned, I received a lemon and GE should replace. So upset and disappointed after paying over $2,000 (on sale).

The refrigerator section should be maintained at a temperature below 40 degrees F and and above 32 degrees, ideally at 37 degrees. Bacterial growth occurs at temperatures of 40 or above. The maximum temperature of the freezer section should be 0 degrees F because only at this temperature or below can foods be kept fresh indefinitely. Above this, they can only be kept fresh for 3 months. This fridge has one control for both compartments. Only when dialed to the coldest possible setting can I keep the freezer at or below 0, but at this setting, the temperature of the refrigerator compartment freezes food. At the next less cold setting, the freezer is at +10 degrees after between closed for 10 hours overnight.
A first GE tech adjusted the baffle between freezer and fridge and said he hoped this would work and to call again if not. The 2nd GE tech, unlike the first, did not even look at GE’s page for technicians to specify how to handle such problems, simply said there was nothing he could do, that the temperatures “met specs.” What are specs? Technician said a 37 degree difference between freezer and fridge compartments. Note that even if it met these specs, the freezer would be at 0 if the door were never opened and the fridge compartment at 37 if the door were never opened, BARELY within FDA recommendations and SHOULD be at these temperatures when the control is at the midpoint.
The specs themselves are terrible. The difference should be 45 degrees to give some leeway when doors are opened, but it does not even meet these specs reliably, indeed varies widely over the day and night. I bought this piece of junk very recently, but am seriously thinking of giving it away and getting an LG with separate temperature controls for freezer and fridge. I do not recommend any GE model that has a single temperature control for freezer and fridge. I feel that $1500 is down the drain. — Also, Abt sent me an email to review this product. After I had given it 1 star and before I could write my review, the web page suddenly disappeared!

I have had numerous repair people out to attempt to rectify the situation but nothing has helped. You adjust one area, temperature, and then it creates another, water in the bottom, overflowing condensation pan. I hope the mold is not killing us. We purchased a GE Monogram refrigerator directly from GE Appliances for ~$10k - PLEASE DO NOT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE. The first refrigerator arrived damaged. After trying to fix the refrigerator for months but cycling through issues like the water/ice dispenser not working, the doors not lining up, etc., GE replaced the refrigerator.
The new refrigerator has been even more problematic. In less than 6 months, the new refrigerator developed a very loud noise and the freezer was not cooling properly. The noise was so loud, my family could not sleep or eat at the kitchen table. We were desperate to get it fixed but the earliest GE service call was a month away. Because the freezer was not cooling properly and we were convinced the whole thing would die before the service call, we were forced to purchase a new refrigerator to put in our garage. An additional $1k expense, but thank goodness we did (keep reading).
When the technician finally arrived, he found a large block of ice behind the back panel of the refrigerator that he thought was caused by a manufacturing defect. The noise was from the fan blades repeatedly hitting the block of ice. The technician removed the ice and taped up the shelf that he thought was misaligned and causing the water to drip down the back. (Note, the technician was professional and seems like a nice guy. This review is not related to our interaction with him.) Approximately one month after the refrigerator was repaired (and 7 months from delivery), the control board failed. Both the refrigerator and freezer stopped working entirely. Unbelievable for a brand new refrigerator to have these issues. Time for another service call..
The service technician told us that parts to replace the control board would be expedited so that the refrigerator could be repaired asap. Instead, GE sent the parts by ground shipping from California to the east coast taking close to a week and didn't schedule an appointment (which was later cancelled) for days after the parts had arrived. Absolutely no sense of urgency to get it fixed. Today, the $10k, 7 month old refrigerator has not been working at all for weeks, and has not worked properly for half the time it has been in my home. I have completely lost confidence in this product and it is clearly defective.
GE Appliances is unable to provide us with a reliable, working refrigerator. We have spent countless hours dealing with numerous issues between the two refrigerators (original + replacement), experienced immeasurable frustration and found the GE consumer advocates to be unhelpful. We simply would like to return the refrigerator at this point but GE Appliances does not want this piece of junk back. In fact, the GE Appliance consumer relations team told me to contact the GE Appliance store team about returning the defective refrigerator. The GE Appliances store team told me that dealing with these issues is the GE Appliance consumer team's job and suggested that I speak to a supervisor on the consumer relations team. Both teams confirmed they are all part of the same company - GE Appliances. Both teams refuse to take responsibility. I am still waiting for a call from the supervisor...
A terrible product and awful customer service. DO NOT PURCHASE AN APPLIANCE FROM GE APPLIANCES. Long story short, GE sold us a broken refrigerator and won't replace it at no cost. They want us to pay for another refrigerator, so we end with one working refrigerator for the price of two. My husband and I bought a GE Profile French door refrigerator. After a while, it began accumulating water at the bottom of the refrigerator compartment, which was covered by the interior drawers so you couldn't see the water until it started overflowing into the bottom freezer compartment and onto the floor. We had a GE repair person come to our home to look at it twice, and he said there was something stuck in the drain line. He said in the factory, small screws or other things can get dropped into the drain lines, the drain lines get plugged up, and there's no way to fix it. He said it was a known problem. He also said this problem was covered by the warranty, and we should get a replacement refrigerator.
My husband has had many conversations with consumer relations at GE (over several months because of their delays), and they refuse to provide us with a non-defective replacement at no cost. GE said we waited too long to report the problem, and so the warranty expired. The repair person told us this problem takes a while to reveal itself, and that it will continue to accumulate and leak water. There should be no time limit on a factory defect.
This is not a problem that arose during our ownership of the product. This is a problem that originated in the factory. Because this is a known problem (admitted by a GE repair person), GE should have tested the drain lines at the factory before releasing the refrigerator for retail sale. The refrigerator was broken when they sold it to us. There was an implied warranty that the product we bought was not broken. There was no signage, nor did anyone alert us to the fact that the drain line was clogged. GE sold us a broken refrigerator - broken before it left the factory - and now they want us to spend more money to buy another refrigerator, so we end up with one working refrigerator for the price of two; that is, if the replacement doesn't have the same defect, but we won't know that until another warranty expires.

We've had our GE Profile refrigerator for about 2 years. Our ice maker has broken twice. At an expense of $350+ for repairs each time, it's a pain. Expected better from a GE product, which is why we were willing to pay more when we bought it. In addition, we're getting an occasional loud buzzing noise that suddenly appears. It's so loud you can't even hear the TV in the room. The repairman said it's probably a bearing and there's nothing he can do about it until it breaks. I'm sure that will be at the most inopportune time. Will get a different brand next time and probably won't get an ice maker again. Consumer Reports suggests they tend to break more than any other part of a refrigerator.

Unfortunately, this thing leaks water out of the back, into the refrigerator, every time I make coffee, get ice, get water, or just in general I get a HUGE puddle of water that leaks into the fridge, then down the front of the fridge and onto the floor. I am constantly cleaning it up. UGH... Don't buy this unless you fully enjoy wiping the inside and outside of the fridge and floor all day every day. So disappointed.

It's warm in the fridge section (temps in the 40s and 50s which makes food go bad), and 18 to 22 below zero (way too cold) in the freezer. It also leaks big puddles on our kitchen floor. So we can't use the fridge part, only the freezer. And we've been waiting almost TWO WHOLE MONTHS now. Still not fixed with 2 different visits, parts ordered, and so on. Now today, we waited weeks for them to come and they cancelled last minute. Worse they rescheduled a whole week away from now. Thus far, the refrigerator is acceptable, though not as appealing as our 25 year old one that it replaced. The new one's doors are heavy and don't close with a slight shove (you have to consciously and firmly close the doors). The bright back-lit interior is easy to find things in; there's lots of room, though it's not as well thought out as their older ones (the door shelves are quite narrow and dont' hold much on the side with the icemaker). I bought this 27.8 CF French door fridge last July through Costco. Right off the bat, the ice maker was not making enough ice. Before I bought it I had a GE fridge and I compared the old one with this new one and everything was comparable, including the amount of ice it makes. I had Ge come out five times to fix the issue of us always running out. The last two times they cancelled the appointment on the day they were supposed to come out saying there was nothing they could do to fix it.
After I got Costco involved, they had GE send out a different service guy come out. Turns out that the ice maker does make the same amount as the old one. It's just that since it's in the door, the bucket it deposits the ice into is much smaller, so as soon as you fill up a couple of glasses it's empty. So they advertise a refrigerator that "makes" enough ice but it'll always run out. After a year of trying to get it resolved they said they will NOT do anything about it and we are S.O.L. GE is a Chinese owned company, wonder if that's why their products and service suck. By the way, the Costco Concierge couldn't do anything so why have it?

We thought this was a great refrigerator when we bought it in February, 2019 until a few days after we passed the deadline to return it. That is when we started noticing its shortcomings. Here are the problems:
1. You cannot put anything on the back of the middle shelves of the refrigerator because they will freeze solid. This is at the recommended 37-degree setting. All the cooling comes down a vent in the back middle and hits anything near it. Yes, I said the refrigerator freezes food.
2. The top refrigerator shelf bracket is 12 inches from the top of the refrigerator. That is a lot of wasted space. I made an extra shelf out of a kitchen rack to utilize the space effectively.
3. The refrigerator shelves are frequently coated with moisture.
4. The refrigerator drawers frequently jam when moving them in or out.
5. The icemaker freezes the ice cubes into an unbreakable iceberg clump. I must dump the entire tray about once a week to be able to reach into the ice tray to grab a handful of ice cubes for my thermos. Once it is dumped, the icemaker starts making ice, but you cannot get it for a couple of hours until it has made several batches. The ice tray design prevents the auger from touching the ice, so you cannot get it from the ice dispenser. It is extremely difficult to get your hand under the auger to get even one or two cubes.
6. The crushed ice dispenser frequently dispenses nearly whole cubes.
7. The freezer shelf bracket design is inadequate. The refrigerator has shelf brackets 2 inches apart for easy adjustment to your needs. But the freezer brackets only allow two choices, either 11 or 13 inches apart. The closest you can put the bottom shelf to the basket on the bottom is 19 inches. That is a lot of wasted space, and you must stack items too deep, and as a result they fall out frequently. I made a new shelf for the area to use the space effectively.
8. The freezer door bins are too shallow, limiting what you can put in them. Usually only one frozen meal, unlike my old fridge that would hold two.
9. The fridge is noisier than you would expect for a new fridge.
10. They recommend replacing the $49.99 water filter every six months. I find it difficult to believe that our public water system contains that many impurities.
11. This one is my favorite. They have added a device to help close the refrigerator and freezer doors. When you give the door a push, expecting it to close like a normal refrigerator, it stops with the door half open. It is a good thing there is a door alarm. We frequently hear the alarm unless we remember to push the door past the “door closer”.
This is a candidate for the world’s worst refrigerator. It is way worse than any I have ever heard of. I am 80 years old and this one has more problems than all the other refrigerators I have owned or used in my entire life. Based on GE’s own reviews that I have read, I can expect a lot of part failures and other problems to add to my list in the future. So far, I have been lucky, but expect new aggravating things in the future. I have avoided buying the warranty that they way too frequently offer by email. I keep hoping the refrigerator will totally fail, so I then must buy a new, easily better one in almost every way. You will probably not publish this review. It is unlikely that any prudent individual reading it would ever buy this GE GSS25GGHWW model refrigerator.

Pros- When it's cooling, it's really cold, we love that, has some pretty decent airflow, not super loud, easy to install, works great with remote and via phone app.
Cons- never seems to work with Google or Alexa, it's a pain, so we don't even bother. The thermostat just seems off, but this is now the 3rd GE we've had that works the same. Let me explain, you set it. For 73 and the room will drop to 71/72, but instead of holding that temp, the compressor turns off, and will not turn back on until the room hits 77, that's just weird and not how any other brand AC we've ever used works. Makes the room very uncomfortable with that big of a temperature swing. Happens whether on cool or eco, we usually just keep it on cool. Also the settings do not stay after you turn it off, always goes back to to eco/auto fan.

Moved into our 10 yr old home 3 months ago. Two weeks ago we noticed a pool of water on the floor in front of our GE Profile French Door refrig/freezer. After emptying out the refrig and pulling the inside back panel, the defrost line below the coil was discovered froze up - so I quickly hit it with a hair dryer to thaw it out so we could put food back in and call for service. When I first talked with the GE service tech, he immediately knew what the problem was and ordered the part - without ever being here. Obviously these French door refrig’s have a reputation for this problem.
When the service tech arrived we already had the refrig emptied & unplugged for 24 hrs as directed. The part that he was to install was not a replacement, but rather a part that was not in the original design - the part was nothing more than a metal rod that extended heat from the defrost heater strip down into the defrost drain tube. So the “fix” (which took about 5 minutes of his time) was to resolve a simple but serious design flaw that relied on water flowing thru a confined space subject to freezing temperatures.
After the service call when I contacted GE about the design flaw and requested consideration of refunding me for the $200 service call, they said sorry that it was not a design issue and that the 10 yr old refrig was out of warranty (I never claimed it to be warranty). Seems any time that a resulting “fix” is actually installing something that the factory did not install originally, and could have easily resulted in a slip-&-fall from water on the floor, would be a performance & SAFETY RECALL. Talking with the GE Case Manager’s Supervisor further supported GE’s policy of not caring about the consumer - only GE$’s. I can only imagine how many other consumers GE has done this too. Lesson learned: GE designs might get you thru their warranty period, but after that the consumer is fully responsible for THEIR design flaws. NO more GE for me and I fully support Consumer Affairs' low rating for GE appliances.

We bought our GE refrigerator Model GFE28HGHBWW in February 2015 for over $2000 with an extended warranty. We bought the extended warranty this time because we had so many problems with our prior refrigerator which was a Samsung. Anyhow, when our GE fridge was delivered one of the top doors was chipped, so we had to have another door delivered and that took care of that issue. Less than two years after this purchase, we noticed that our food did not seem to be very cold and the refrigerator was making a loud humming noise so we called and arranged for the tech to come out. There was a problem with the fan and a temperature sensor. Also, a duct tower and and evaporator cover needed to be ordered. The tech needed to come back and install those, which was done within 3 weeks.
A year later in March of 2019, we had the same problem with food not staying cold, and we noticed some of our foods seemed to be quickly spoiling. I would buy sour cream or half and half and by the time I opened it, well within the expiration dates, it would have curdled. Our fridge also started making a very loud humming noise that lasted 2-3 minutes, three or four times a week at random times throughout the day. Again, went through the system and arranged for the tech to come out. When he came out, some of the same parts as last time needed to be ordered. So, he had to come back in 2 weeks when we received the parts.
A year later, February 2020, same issue with the noise and food not staying cold. Called and just had service again. Parts had to be ordered at the first visit, and when received a week later, the service tech came out to install. The service techs have been very helpful and seem to know what they're doing. However, I think there is a major flaw in the design of this fridge's inner workings. We are now out of the extended warranty time and guess what! Our fridge has started to make a humming noise again and food does not seem as cold. I am very disappointed in the quality of this refrigerator. I am also disappointed in the company. I would like to think that the company's managers would have a system in place to note when a customer has recurrent problems with their appliances and to reach out to that customer who has invested in their products.

Poor DC Fan motor design. In early 2017, we bought all of our GE Profile appliances including the refrigerator through our builder as part of building a new home. Love the slate exterior. Within the 1st year the noise from the refrigerator began to sound like a jet taking off. GE sent a repairman out and replaced the DC Fan Motor under warranty. Fast forward a year, and the same thing started again. GE sent a repairman out and he did replace the part free and only charged us 1/2 the cost of the trip charge. Guess what, we're into year 3 on this refrigerator and the noise is starting again. I would not recommend these appliances. I know things don't last like they used to, but this is just a poor design. Even the repairman told us that. Apparently, they did realize that the design was bad and have made changes. Doesn't help us a bit.

I purchased a brand new GE Profile Refrigerator March 2019. In early January 2020 it stopped dispensing water and making ice and it leaked water all over a hardwood oak floor. I contacted GE for warranty service and waited more than a week for their repair to show up. The GE repair person told me that the entire door that contained the ice/water dispenser would need replacement. Next, I was told this item was on backorder due to so many of their refrigerators breaking and that it could be a month or longer before they could fix it. Way to go GE. However, we didn't realize that the strips of what we thought were stainless steel plastic at the bottom of the shelves and drawers are actually very thin silver stickers that are starting to come off. We called GE and they said that we were not only outside the warranty window but that even if we were not, the issue is considered cosmetic. A hard pill to swallow on a $3,000 purchase. Customer service has now explained to me that the doors will be around in march 2020 or so. They will call me to tell me when. I had asked for it to be replaced since we have to buy ice and bottled water now. Here is the issue. It is January 2nd 2020 and we have lived with this defect since the end of November. The next tech said it was the compressor. Parts are never in stock and it took over three weeks for the first part to come in and then another week to schedule service. Luckily I had the five year warranty and was able to get a refund. Others aren't so fortunate. Two other people I know had the refrigerator die after 2 years. The new refrigerators are junk. I wish I would have kept my old side by side. The techs told me they buy older refrigerators due to the better quality and longevity of service. The repair man was here every 1-2 weeks, fixing the same issue which was the fan assembly in the freezer kept freezing up and would not run. We finally got rid of it and called GE. I must admit they were very responsive and offered me an amazing deal on a new one. Big mistake on our part. We were told all the problems with the old model were fixed. NOOO they were not.
We purchase the new model September of 2016 and it was working great until about 6 months ago. The same issue started as with our old model. They got back to us to suggest that they can sell us matching unit. We were very that problem will be resolved quickly.
Our old unit has paneled door. They asked us to take down the panel and once they delivered new one we can put panel back on. But when they delivered fridge, my husband find out it doesn't look matching. The mistake we made was allowing deliver and installation people leave. They know it does not match but it was not their job to say no. We took many pictures and send it to customer service, and we stuck with mismatched set. Also our old panel does not fit into new unit either. They want to sell us the matching unit at discount. But we could not located anyone to just make paneled for both doors at reasonable price.
At the end we bought a stainless set at discounted price and discarded the one we just bought so we don't need the panel. But after our payment, it took free weeks to be schedule for delivery. First time, one of unit was dented. We sent it back. Second time two paneled units were delivered. We sent them back. Third time one unit was stainless and one is paneled. Fourth time two stainless units were delivered but were doors on the wrong side. Last time I request customer service to inspect the unit before they were shipped out.
Now few months later our ice maker is not working. Scheduled service three times. First time my husband got home late, tech was gone. Second time, tech never showed. My appointment was from 8-12. I called at 1pm and they said it won't be accurate. I keep checking tracker. It was moving from morning to afternoon until 7pm stopped. So I rescheduled for the following week. The third appointment I was keeping eyes on the tracker. It was again changing from morning to afternoon. When I called around 2pm. She told me the tech probably will be here in one hour. All the food in fridge and freezer destroyed and water all over the floor from the ice melting through the water dispenser. Had to wait 1 week tech to come, another week for new compressor to be ordered and a few more days to install that. It worked for 3 days and then stopped working again and they now want another company to come and pull the fridge out and leave it there until they can send techs out to run a test on the heat exchange system and the evacuator to see where the leak is.

The freezer drawer on my refrigerator is misaligned. We measured it to confirm and there was a quarter of a inch difference. I didn't understand the directions in the manual on fixing freezer door gaps. I called GE to ask if this was serviceable. They said yes and sent a technician. The technician was extremely rude from the beginning for some unknown reason. Despite this I was as polite as possible. I showed him the issue and he immediately barked this is not his job, and I should have called the store where I purchased the item to fix this. Since he was in a bad mood I didn't want to engage so I said nothing.
But in hindsight I had called Customer Service and they were the ones who told me they would send a technician so I don't understand why I am being lectured by this man. He turns the allen key twice on the right door and says I'm done. I said, "Well the issue is more the freezer drawer. The left side is lower than the right." He didn't bend to check and just said, "You are seeing an optical illusion, it's fine. You are seeing things." I said, "Sir no. I'm not I would not call a technician to waste my time. I have measurements." He lied to me and said, "You can't do anything the bottom freezers are sealed from inside so you cannot align them." So, he was basically saying the manual GE supplied has false information?
We went back and forth on this and he was getting louder and I would have to get louder cause he wouldn't let me speak. He said, "I'm leaving. I don't have to be here." I said, "Well what is your name since you never gave it me because I need to file a complaint." He said, "It's on my shirt - read it!" At that point that was too much. Then I said, "You have no reason to be aggressive, rude, and dismissive of me. I will be filing a complaint against you. I don't understand what you are mad at, is it my face?" He goes "Well, I'll file one against you."
This is on my security camera him threatening me with a complaint. I said, "Go ahead just go." I call GE not even 10 minutes later to make another appointment and they said the technician has put me on a Do Not Service list because he didn't like the way he was treated. Apparently I can now never get in home service from GE again. He was the one aggressive with me and this was just retaliation cause I said I would be filing a complaint against him. The Customer Service Escalation team was useless. This man came into my home and was disrespectful to me yet they are supporting his baseless claims. They said, "We need to protect out technicians." You need to protect your technicians? I'm 108 pounds. You sent the large, angry man into my home who basically told me he is too good to align doors, that I am wasting his time, I am seeing optical illusions, and you need to protect your technician?
I spent $8000 on your appliance suite, I was nothing but nice to this man but he was looking for an argument. Also, when I bought these appliances there is a standard warranty which says GE guarantees under its one full year warranty, 'GE will provide, free of charge, all labor and related service costs...' So, how can they refuse service? Now, I'm being told when I call customer service that they will give me $250 to find my own provider to fix problems. The warranty contract says GE will provide...it doesn't say customer is responsible for finding provider. Some incidents will cost way more than $250 especially in the New York area, that fee is unreasonable. Nor does it say in the contract the provided GE Service Technician has a right to terminate/alter the the Standard Warranty.
You can't change the terms of the warranty at the whim of a technician who decided he didn't like me, or didn't want to do the work. So if you expected a great customer service by spending slightly more on the GE Cafe Series that is absolutely not true. The service is terrible. It's absolutely insane that I spent that much money and they are trying to renege on the standard warranty. Please everyone be aware that GE are not upholding their Standard Warranty on appliances at the whim of their technicians.

Door stop falls apart, causing damage to our counter. In March 2014, we purchased refrigerator model at Home Depot: DSE26JSECCSS. Here is a Link: https://www.geapplianceparts.com/store/parts/assembly/DSE26JSECCSS. The refrigerator door on this model has a major design flaw: the door stop is too weak to stop the door from hitting the counter. After 5 years, the door stop has broken 3 times (the first time within 2 years of purchase). Now with the holes stripped (and unable to hold a replacement door stop), GE says that we have to replace the entire door for $400 + labor! And refuses to cover us under warranty! The whole appliance is on sale for $1100, so $400 to replace a poorly designed door is obviously not worth it.
When the repair guy came and told us we needed to replace the door, he admitted that we were far from the only customers who have had the refrigerator door fail on them. Upon follow up with GE customer service, they acknowledged that the problem that we have experienced with the door with this model is a known issue. Plainly, it is an engineering flaw in which the door stop was not designed with strong enough materials to hold the door when it is full of the common products it is intended to hold.
They offered us the opportunity to purchase a new door for $85 (instead of $400), but said we would still need to cover the installation cost ($125-200). Also, they said it would only be covered by warranty for one year, which is not adequate (as we learned the hard way). Since the company admitted to us that this product has a known design flaw, they should address it via a product recall, not by forcing customers to pay over $200 to fix a problem that is caused by GE's own engineering mistakes and resulting poor quality product. Thus far, they have not budged in forcing us to pay. DO NOT buy this model - it is poorly designed and the door will swing open and damage your counters. And DO NOT buy GE - they do not stand by their products. There's plenty of other good refrigerators out there by more responsible companies!

The ice maker would not work properly, and ice started forming in the Freezer section. There was dripping that came out of nowhere one day, behind the fridge. Thankfully, we had put a water leak detection alarm (found on Amazon) behind the fridge, that alerted us immediately.
**The back story to us buying a new fridge was to replace a fridge that leaked from the ice maker hose for 7 weeks unbeknownst to us, and did 30k worth of damage to the kitchen. So you know, a water leaking behind a new fridge was not a good thing. 5 service calls later, the fridge is still dropping cooling temps on and off through the day.

One day noticing eggs smell funny and bought thermometer to monitor temps. Climbing into the 58-60 degree range. Called service, attempted repairs, one month later, unit declared dead and replaced a third time. Third unit no cool within three days. This is after we just bought a whole fridge full of food. So we ended up being out at least 700 in food over the course of this thing, without refrigeration for several months, but at least customer service was helpful.
After the third unit died, customer care department started the refund process.
