Ny wife was watching tv she heard a noise like a motor running. She thought it was comming from outside. Then she smelled something burning went into the kitchen the G E microwave oven was on and smoke was pouring out of it. She then unpluged it open the door in the back corner it is melted and black. The problem is that she did not use the microwave this morning it came on all by itself. What could of happen if it came on while we were all sleeping. It is a GE model #JES1358WK02 serial#AL918354U date January 2006. Iam worried that this could happen to someone else with a bad ending. We bought a new home in 2006 with "upgraded" GE appliances. The Profile Spacesaver microwave does not heat, the dishwasher does not clean the top rack of dishes, the oven door locks while food is cooking, and our gas stove top has quite working twice. I will never use GE again. Every appliance has stopped working or does not work to its full potential. This is a nightmare, and we paid extra for the "better" appliances!!!!!! Wish there was something we could do legally!!!!

My microwave (JKP90WM1WW), a combo micro/oven unit, turned on by itself, and started burning. Only way to shut off was to turn off the breaker. I see where there were recalls listed in 12/07 for the same problem. However, my unit was manufactured in 3/08, and therefore no recall has been submitted for this model and year, but I think the same problem is prevalent. I have contacted the CPSC today (9/3/09) and understand there is a class action lawsuit filed by a Hasaan ** of Washington, DC, with the same complaint. I have gotten nowhere with GE as they say they have not heard of this problem and would send out a repairman to analyze the problem at $100 an hour, but my best estimate for repair would be between $400 to $600 and no guarantee this same problem wouldn't happen again. I think the only way we can be safe with this unit (if it is repaired) is to shut off the breaker every time we leave the house. What a hassle, but I don't want to come home to a pile of ashes or even have it smoldering while we are asleep. Right now my $2000 micro/oven unit is unusable (purchased 4/08). We have had to purchase a separate microwave to do our cooking. Hope you can help. Thank you.

I have a two-year old GE Profile SS microwave. It powers on then immediately powers off and then the screen freezes. Sometimes, it powers on again and then freezes for weeks at a time. It is a year warranty and the smart board is $150, not on the GE website. It is $299 on it! That's the end on any GE products. Karma is a **, huh, GE? No wonder your stock is worthless.

We purchased a new home with GE Profile stainless appliances installed - they cost a premium. The Microwave lasted approximately 16 months before it broke suddenly. $140 service call later, I was informed that it would cost an additional $150 to repair. The condition was a loud ticking noise and absolutely no heating of contents. It turned out to be the main component in the unit...made in south Asia by the lowest bidder. I decided to buy a new one and bought the Adora to save $125. 14 months later, the unit stopped working suddenly (between making kid's oatmeal breakfast) - exact same condition. I am really tweaked by this.

The Refrigerator Ice Maker produced an ice cube that was too large. The ice cubes merged during freezing and caused a severe problem dispensing through the door - a loud grinding noise with nothing coming out. Then it went through 3 of these cheap plastic drive rings located on the spiral dispensing bar. One after the other they broke - a $28 part that cost a quarter to mold. Finally, I stopped replacing it and I just open the door to get my ice - thank you, GE.

Nine (9) emails on their customer service site have gone unanswered. No phone support available. Yet after replacing the microwave, I received 5 letters offering extended warranty protection from the company. Now, I am no idiot (or maybe I am for yielding to my desire to maintain matching appliances), but what does this say about the company? They just took my money at the store and then they inform me that it is going to break in between years 1 and 3. The executives of this company deserve to have all the near new appliances that simply "broke" dumped on their front yard - blocking the Hyundai from getting out of the garage of their palatial mansions.

I have had a GE SpaceMaker JVM1650 over-the-range microwave. It was built in August 2004 and installed in our house. We bought the house from the first owner in 2006. It is now August 2009 and for the past year, the microwave would just reset itself a few seconds after turning it on. After this reset, I would have to put in the time, AM or PM, and then put in the date, then I would have to try it again. Most of the time, it would work again for a while. This past week, it happened about 6 times repeatedly, so I started researching it. I found that this is most likely a bad magnetron problem that GE has had since the 90's. I called GE and found I only had a one-year warranty. I verified this by pulling up the owner's manual. What a load of crap. To replace the Magnetron myself would have been about $130.

I seriously have microwaves at work from the mid-80's that get the crap kicked out of them daily in our factory and they still work great, yet this microwave in my house in perfect condition can't function as designed. After last week's fiasco, trying to get a burrito cooked, I went to Consumer Reports and found the replacement microwave. I went to Lowe's and got a Samsung, top-rated stainless microwave for less than $300 and it has a ten-year warranty on the magnetron. I installed it in about an hour and it seems to work great. Screw GE and any of their crappy appliances. Our last GE dishwasher in our old house had a recall on it. The GE fridge in our new house doesn't get cold enough and it makes a weird noise at times. The GE dishwasher doesn't' do a great job and the GE gas range takes for freaking ever to boil water. I am done with GE and look forward to replacing every appliance I have with anything but a piece of crap GE.

My 4 year old GE Spacemaker Over the Range Microwave oven, Model EMO3000, stopped working on August 25, 2009. When I attempted to use the oven, it started and shut down in 2 seconds. The oven required a reset of the clock prior to attempting to use it again. After resetting the clock, the same problem occurred and the unit is completely non-functional. In researching the problem, a simple Google search reveals numerous complaints about the same problem with the Spacemaker ovens. This appears to be a known defect in the product. I contacted GE as this problem is not listed on their website and received generic replies for repair.

My question to GE was directed at acknowledging a known defective product and offering a reasonable solution for remedy. GE is unwilling to take responsibility for marketing a subpar product and encourages repairs, which according to consumer complaints, cannot resolve the inherent defective nature of the product. It is unacceptable to not inform the consumer, at the time of purchase, that this product has a limited lifetime due to poor quality in the manufacturing process. GE is selling defective and sometimes dangerous products and should be held accountable. The microwave oven is too costly to repair and reviews of consumer experiences indicate that the defects cannot be cured. The only option is to discard the product.

My GE Spacemaker is less than 3 yrs. old and has a mind of its own. It starts beeping randomly and we have to turn off the breaker to make it stop. When we turn it back on, F3 code flashes on the display screen w/ a continuous beep. Sometimes, you can press the keypad and it will function, but most of the time it is dead. I called the appliance store where I purchased this micro and was told I would have to pay an hourly service fee of $70 to have someone come out and tell me what the problem is. Shouldn't a microwave last longer than 3 years? It is so unfair for a company to get the consumers' money and not stand behind the products they promote and sell us.

We moved into a new place on July 29, 2009 with all GE Profile appliances all from 2001. The night before our move, our 2003 GE Profile microwave stopped heating anything - it's completely shot. Since we had to have one based on sale of our house, we bought a new one for $399 with installation. Remember, we moved out of state the next day, so there's no time to search out the best costs.

Now in the new place after only 3 weeks, our Arctica fridge water line was not working, and the fresh food section was always too cold and froze. With our microwave, you could not really read the read-out, and the turntable stopped working immediately. Finally, our double wall ovens stopped working. It's unbelievable. We have only lived here 3 weeks.

Service came timely from GE, and the guy could not have been more efficient or nicer. However, the fridge needs $300 for part plus $85 for service call (We decided to get a new one, not GE.), the ovens had to have a $350 part (He compensated the service call.), and the microwave will need a new turntable motor at $200 and a new digital controller at $300. No! A new microwave is only $300! So, we fixed the oven and are getting a new fridge and microwave. We will not buy GE Profile again.

We own a GE spacesaver microwave (Model: JVM1870SF2) and the glass microwave tray broke in two while heating food! The unit is about four years new. Ordering one from GE is about $100! I still paid $50 from third-party. Amazing. I have used more variety of GE medical products than probably anyone in U.S. because of my diverse medical training: diagnostic ultrasound; MRI scanners; CT scanners; general x-ray; specialized IR, and cardiac c-arm machines. GE currently cannot repair problems on my cardiac equipment at a major hospital for one year now. As a consumer, every company out there makes junk. Part of the bigger problem is us. We've been programmed to expect less, after years of using Chinese-infused products. Glass microwave plates breaking when being heated?

What did the engineers think it was going to be used for? $100 for replacement. Pyrex glass bowls (same thing) cost $5.87 at Walmart and they use more glass. Come on, GE. I'm obviously a brilliant person to use all those medical devices and my opinion counts big time. I lost $100 for something which should have been manufactured to withstand heat of a microwave oven.

The dishwasher doesn't shut off and microwave has a mind of its own. The service man came out and said he has to order parts for both units. After two months of complaining and arguing with them, now it's Aug. 7, 2009 and the units are still broken and I'm getting no satisfaction. I asked for new replacements and they said they couldn't do it. I had to unplug the microwave before it starts a fire and dishwasher will run forever without turning off. In May 2009, I purchased an all new kitchen appliances from GE. After a few weeks, the OTR MW Model JVM1850SM2SS caught fire while MW popcorn. After 1 minute, the entire MW was filled with smoke and the popcorn scorched. I contacted GE service and the tech told customer relations that the incident was caused by customer abuse.

I guess he knew better than to say that to my face. The fire caused a burn mark in the rear of the unit. GE sent touch up paint but that has not helped. I still have popping sounds when I use the MW. GE's last offer was to replace my unit with a new one. My cost would be 50% of the original price plus $75 service fee. Cost to me would be $312. I told GE that can put the offer where the sun doesn’t shine.

I also requested a copy of the service calls which I received. The service calls do not state a reason for the fire or service performed. I called GE to see if they would replace or fix it and was told that I might be eligible for a type of rebate. I complained that I either wanted it replaced or repaired and was told that if I did not like the rebate program, they would put me down as refusing it. I stated that I was not refusing it but would like to speak to her supervisor or manager and was told that she was a case worker and I was not going to speak to anyone else. I understood that I would be receiving something in the mail for this "rebate" but have yet to hear from them.

I doubt that they will make good on the faulty microwave. I am frankly surprised on how little GE cares for its customers. They build faulty equipment, will not honor repairs or replacements, and their personnel could care less. I am now stuck with a non-working microwave from GE and they got my money. When I contacted GE they basically told me that because it was more than a year old I would have to pay a technician to come out and look at. According to GE, if it is still heating then there is nothing wrong with the unit itself. Are they concerned at all about the bright light and smoke? No--not as long as it's still "heating"! We have a General Electric microwave model number GE JVM1450WA that we bought in October of 1998 while remodeling out kitchen. Last week, the unit stopped heating food. Everything else seems to work fine, lights, fans, clock, etc. but the unit will not heat up the food. I was instructed that this was due to a failed magnetron and that I should consider replacing the Microwave. The unit is just over 10 years old and the manufacturers warranty has long expired, so I am not too disappointed.

The unit has been a good product but after reading all of the negative complaints regarding General Electric microwave ovens, I am concerned about their reliability. I have recently had to replace two GE microwaves at my work as they have both failed in a relatively short period of time. The first was about four years old and the second one was just over one year old. I have never personally had any other brand of microwave oven but I remember my parents having a Quasar countertop model for over 20 years that just would not quit. They ended up giving the unit away and buying a newer, smaller unit that took up less counter space.

Since my microwave ovens at home and work are all wall mounted, (over the range) units, each new microwave oven installed means more holes drilled in my walls and cabinets. Even though I am replacing one older GE model with another newer GE model, each microwave oven seems to have its own unique mounting hardware and thus requires drilling additional holes in my walls and cabinets. I am starting to worry about the structural integrity of the wallboard and cabinet bottom to hold up the microwave oven securely. It seems that the mounting hardware should be standardized, at least within the same manufacturer's line of product!

I only had my GE microwave for 1 year, then all of a sudden, the buttons stopped working. In order for me to get to work, I have to unplug it and then use only the express buttons to cook food. I can't set my own time to cook food. The start button, the clear button--none of the buttons work. When I want to re-use the microwave again, I have to repeat the same steps of unplugging it then pushing one of the express buttons. This is tedious, because it is mounted over the stove and my family needs to use a step ladder to unplug and plug the darn thing when they need to use it.

I had no idea after reading all of the other complaints on this page that GE had so many problems with their products. It's a lesson learned for me. Now I'm worried that all of my other appliances will stop working, because they are all GE products also and just over a year old. I had a GE microwave oven for about 5 years that was always in need of repair. During a service visit by a GE repairman, I was encouraged to buy a new microwave oven rather then repair the old unit. I purchased the brand new unit from the GE repairman for approximately $425 upon his good advice (or was it good salesmanship?). Thinking that the new unit would be trouble free for years (were my expectations too high?), I decided that this was the most cost effective way to go. The new microwave, Model JVM15400M2WW(manufactured in March '08) was installed on 4/26/08. Just a week or two later the magnatron tube failed. Why was I was not surprised by this? I contacted GE and asked them to pick up the new microwave and have them refund the $425, but they refused to do this. They insisted on dispatching a repairman. They told me that they would extend the original 1 year warranty to 2 years and the unit would be as good as new. On 6/2/08 the repair was done, a new magnatron tube installed. The new magnatron tube failed on 5/19/09, after less then a year of very limited use. I called GE, and they agreed to waive the $99 service charge, and labor, if I paid for the replacement parts only. I was told that the magnatron tube itself costs approximately $100. When I returned from work on Friday evening, I received a confirmation call from GE, however, on Saturday morning, at 7 am my phone rang (this call woke up my entire family), and a recorded message indicated I would be the next appointment. I glanced out of my window and saw a GE repair van parked in front of my house. I walked over to the van at 7:10 am, and told the repairman that it was OK if he came inside and started his repair (he had already awakened my entire family). By 7:20 am he was situated in my kitchen with his portable laptop on my countertop. He immediately knew that the magnatron tube had failed, and told me that according to his information, GE consumer relations had agreed to waive only the parts charges, completely contrary to what I was told a couple of days before. The net result is, with no charge for parts, he expected me to pay him $275, $99 for the service call, and $175 for labor. I told him that this was outrageous, and he left my home without me paying him a cent. I am certain that GE will be contacting me trying to extort $99 for this service call. In dealing with GE I have learned three things, 1- GE microwaves are terrible , 2- when boating stay away from the coast of Somalia, and 3- a different group of pirates runs GE.
Damage Resulting = The economic consequences are that I have invested hundreds of dollars in inferior GE microwave ovens, have been inconvenienced, and now have to sue GE in Small Claims Court to get my money back.

It just stopped heating one day although everything else about the oven continues to work, lights, motor, clock, timer etc. I was told by GE reps as well as several appliance repair people that the problem is the magnatron. It is commonly known that this part is a problem in the GE microwaves. The part itself, I was told has a warranty of ten years. The catch is you cannot replace it yourself and the service charge and labor to fix a part under warranty are as much as the unit. There is something seriously wrong with a company being allowed to continue to produce faulty products that they will not fix for less than the original purchase price. I checked to see if there had been a recall on these microwaves and there has not. But, I read literally hundreds of complaints regarding many of the GE microwaves. Of course I will not purchase another one of their products but what about all the people that are shopping today or tomorrow or the next day that have no reason to read these complaints. After calling both GE and doing some research on line it seems that there have been many problems with this GE product and in most cases it is an issue with the magnetron. There are GE Profile Spacesaver microwaves recalled. These were built at the same time as ours and only one number in the model number differs. I have no idea why ours was not recalled. The repairman is here as I write my complaint. It is still under parts warranty but we will be paying $85.95 for the trip and another *$150+ for less than an hour worth of labor. Total sum with tax $273+. Reading other complaints about this line of microwaves chances are good that we will need to replace the same part again in a few years. Hoping I could do it myself next time, I watched the pro... there is no way a novice could do this repair. Whom ever decides how much to charge labor per "job"(not per hour) obviously knows this, hence the $150+ labor charge for a 45 minute repair! When we asked the repairman what the life expectancy is on a microwave he answered, "15 to 20 years". Our GE microwave is a little over six years old with minimal to average household usage.

I bought a brand new GE microwave over the counter from Lowe's in Williamsburg, VA on Feb.19, 2009. We had it installed by their subcontractors, Gault Electric, the next week. They picked up the microwave and brought it to us when they came to install it. From the very beginning, my husband and I kept smelling something but we thought it was the newness of it. On Tuesday, April 14, I was using the microwave and all of a sudden, I smelled something burning and it cut off. Everything just went blank. I immediately called my husband at work who said to call Lowe's, so I did. I told them what happened. They got in touch with GE and called me back saying GE wanted me to call them. GE proceeded to say that I'm under contract, so they can send a repair person out. I said I don't want my microwave repaired. I want a new one. We went back and forth on the matter. They said I would have to go back to Lowe's for a new one because that's where I bought it. All they can do is repair it if it can be fixed.

GE went as far as to say, "If you bought a pair of shoes from a store and something was wrong with them, you wouldn't send it back to the manufacturer, would you? You would take them back where you bought them." So I said, "Okay but Lowe's is telling me to call you." Again, GE said, "We can send a repair person out. You have a 1-year contract." So after a few calls speaking with Miranda and Debbie, I called GE back to set up an appointment. The repairman (John) came on Thursday, 04/16/09. He told me that the microwave had a bad power board and showed me the part, and that's why we were smelling something. You could see the burnt part. John thought he had a part for it, but it wasn't the right piece he said after me telling him that Lowe's said if he deems the microwave unfixable, then I could get a new one.

He said, "Of course, I'm a repairman. I can fix it." I said, "But I want a new one." So he said I would have to talk to Lowe's. He could set up another appointment to come back with the part and fix it. I made the appointment which was Thurs., 4/23/09. I called Lowe's to let them know what the problem was and again I stated I want a new microwave. If I wanted one fixed, I would have kept my old over the counter microwave that I had for 12 years since we bought our home. So on Saturday, 4/18/08, the repairman John called me to say he had the part and if I would be home, he could come by since he was in the area. Confused on what to do, I asked him to call me back in 5 minutes. I asked my husband and I called Lowe's and spoke with Debbie. I told them GE's repairman wanted to come today. Debbie told me to let him come, that's what she would do. Again, I told her I still wanted a new microwave (over the counter) but I would let him come.

When the repairman called me back, I told him to come on and he did. And right now, it's working. But I'm not comfortable with that one. I paid for a brand new and I got a faulty one which had to be repaired in less than 2 months. I'm still waiting to hear from Lowe's. I spoke with Debbie on Saturday and she promised me she would call GE when she came in Monday, 4/20/09. In fact, she said she would even come in a little earlier to take care of this matter. I haven't heard from her today. So I called the store again and spoke with Katelyn. She said Debbie wasn't there and Miranda was in a meeting. So I'm still waiting to hear from them. I want a new microwave. I really feel as a consumer, I'm not being treated fairly. Lowe's is worrying about getting paid from GE so that has to have a sign off from GE. In other words, I am really upset. Everybody seems so sympathetic but not enough to give me, the consumer, a new microwave.

Hopefully, my story will save your life and you'll replace your old microwave. My wife was melting some butter last night when I saw sparks flying around the inside of the microwave. Then, smoke and fire followed. I couldn't believe it. I opened the door and blew out the burning plastic cover of the magnetron, which is on the top inside of the microwave. A hole was burned through the cover the size of a quarter.

After speaking with experienced people in the appliance business, I've come to learn that all microwaves die a death like this. They either burn up their wires, start smoking, buzzing, or start on fire when the magnetron focuses too much power in one spot. If I had known this, I would have bought a new microwave every five years just to avoid the fire hazard. I am so glad I was home when this fire happened. I can only imagine what the outcome would have been if someone else like my kids were operating it at the time. The moral lesson is toss out your old microwave frequently at least every 7 years. Don't wait for the fire to happen. Save your life and avoid the imminent threat to your family. Be smart. Toss it out. Report your claims to the U.S. Product Safety Commission.

In Oct. of 2008, we purchased a microwave/convection oven from our local Home Depot. The first oven had a fist-sized dent on the side and had to be replaced. When the second oven was installed, it would randomly make a loud buzzing noise while cooking the food and did not brown the food evenly. Home Depot came out and checked, but they were unable to make the oven produce the buzzing during their visit.

After dealing with this for several months, we decided to ask for the oven to be exchanged. I called the number on the GE warranty book and was told we were out of luck, no exchange. I asked if I might talk to someone else and talked to Bobbie ** at a 1-800-386-1215 number. She told me Home Depot was obligated to stand behind their products as a GE distributor.

Home Depot replied that their warranty only covered thirty days. The expediter called GE and arranged for a technician to make a service call on Feb. 20. On the 19th, someone called from GE to troubleshoot over the phone. She told us the magnetron tube would make different noises due to different types of food being cooked. (It would, however, produce the buzzing at different times while cooking the same food.)

When the GE technician arrived the next day, he was unable to fix the problem. He told me the uneven cooking appeared to be a design problem. I asked for him to just exchange the oven, and he replied even his boss couldn't get an oven exchanged. How is it that a purchase in excess of four hundred dollars is not backed by warranty? We had the product less than five months, and I expected a company as large as GE to be reputable. We ended up buying a much more expensive oven that actually worked. I think GE owes me the additional difference in cost. I'll never buy another GE appliance.

We have been in our home 4 years. We have purchased two GE Profile microwaves in that time. We were unhappy that our microwave was not even 3 years old when it gave out. So, we called repairmen that told us that the magnatron in this particular model has a ten year warranty and usually is the problem. But, they would need to charge us $157.00 to even determine if that was the issue. This, of course, does not include the price of a part that may be needed or the installation of that part. I found this microwave for sale on the internet for $150.00. I bought a new microwave 4 months ago and paid an individual $80.00 to take the other one out and install the new one. This morning this microwave stopped working. I am so disgusted. I do not know where to go from here. This particular model is built into my cabinetry. We are sick of undependable appliances. We had just as many problems with our Kitchenaid dishwasher. My advice: Don't buy GE appliances!!

Our 3 yr. old GE profile microwave quit heating our food today. I called the place we bought it from and were told its probably the magnatron and these have a 10 yr. warranty. Great Right!! Wrong. I spent a couple of hours calling 5-6 differt GE numbers and being on hold to be told the warranty is for the part only, and it does not cover the scam of paying a repair man $100-$300 for coming to the house to put in a part I found 15 minutes away for $69. When I found this site with DOZENS maybe HUNDREDS of the same complaint I almost flipped out. I will most likey fix this on my own and post again with the final results. I told GE that Im 45 years old and that the month I turned 16 my mother bought our families first and only microwave for me to quickly heat up my food before I left for work. That same microwave oven went thru hell for years as my brothers and I pounded that thing. That same oven is still being used daily with no problem today by my retired parents. We moved in about six months ago and started noticing that the oven would sometimes have sparks on the side wall. Today the sparks turned into a fire - luckily I was right there and turned it off immediately. It looks like the wall insulation has rubbed off and that's what is causing the fire. After reading these reports, I assume that calling GE to replace the thing or even come to look at it is useless so will just go ahead to buy a new non-GE appliance.

He told me I have warranty on the part but it will cost and additional $300 to fix it. I bought a GE Microwave oven in 2003 for about $150. Six years later it stopped heating, so I opened it up and determined the magnetron was dead. The terminals are shorted to ground, and it smells like ozone, and it burned and blackened.
Luckily the magnetron has a 10 year warranty. But to get a replacement you have to have a repair man come to your house, which is $80 the moment he knocks on your door, and labor charges after that. They won't tell you anything about the labor costs. I ask: Can I deliver the oven to a repair center myself? Answer: No! You must have a repairman drive out to you. At least they won't charge for the new magnetron. It's under warranty after all. You can also just forget the warranty and buy a magnetron. That'll only cost you -- $150. At least that's the price on the GE parts website. So it's like Joseph Heller runs GE's warranty department. Their goal is to provide a warranty that looks good but is actually worthless. I'm glad it's only $150 for a new oven. I'll be getting one today. And it's not going to be a GE.

I had asked what the service charges were and the representative advised the fee is according to the job along with a $75.00 house call. The service person immediately after I discibed the burnt electric odor said he knew what the problem was. He advised this part frequently burns out for no reason at all or power surges. He removed 3 screws from the unit, removed the part (took about a minute) and plugged a new one in (part #WB27X1160). It took longer for him to process my credit card. The charge was a total of $187.41. I checked the internet and that part comes up many times. I believe this part burns out VERY often and GE has not addressed it's defective or cheaply made quality. The part from GE is $32.90. It is certainly a money maker for their service department. I checked online and the microwave can be bought from $399. - $449. I called ther customer relations department to complain about such a costly bill for such a small part that should not have burnt out in the first place. She informed me the part was covered under the warrentee and they did not charge me for the visit but the labor charge was the whole cost! So the labor cost for a five minute job replacing a small item that should not have failed on a $400. appliance is $187.41. That is robbery. That represents approx $2,100.00 per hour. She also advised that is why people have service contracts. I asked her if people should not feel secure buying their products unless they intend to purchase service contracts.

It broke the first time when the appliance was 6 months old, again when it was just under 2 years old and then again 6 months later. GE fixed it the first 2 times, but now refuses to fix it because it is out of warranty. My complaint is that there is an underlying problem with the microwave that keeps burning out the keypad. Here's a bill for 100 for that brilliant advice." Hormones kick in, call and ** so much they have him come out and fix it for free, minus the 100 dollars for service call. Thanks for the favor. Fast forward one year, dishwasher starts flooding water all over the floor into finished basement.

Happens a couple of times, decide to hand wash, much cheaper than having a service guy come out to tell me I need a new dishwasher for 100 bucks. Hand wash dishes for family of 4 until we can afford dishwasher. 2 weeks ago, surprise! Oven goes. My husband calls and makes appointment for service, tells them the part and what's wrong with it. Rude service tech comes in, sits at my kitchen table with his laptop and tells me it will be over 300 dollars to fix the oven. He has the part in his hand. His labor is 175$. It would maybe take him 15 mins to install part. Oh, best part is the top burner is broken too but I'm too petrified to ask how much that would be. Refuse service. At this point, I want nothing to do with GE.

So now I just lost 100$ for an estimate and I still have a broken oven. Called customer service and all they say is, "This is a valid charge, ma'am." So now, I have a broken dishwasher and oven. I told her that the thing almost burned our house down and that if anyone was paying, GE could reimburse the City of Virginia Beach for the cost of sending three trucks and crew out here. She agreed to send a tech without the fee. He looked at the burned area inside and noted that something inside the units sometime get stuck and this happens! The burn focused on a plastic clip that held the shelf and it burned through that hole. He told us a lady would be calling soon. He hightailed it out of here. As he cleared the driveway, the lady called and told me she could offer us a replacement for $136.99. The retail for the unit is $219.00 and I was being charged a useage fee of $59.04 plus tax of $2.95 and a fee of $75.00 for someone to bring a new unit out, install it and remove the old unit. I told her I was completely competent to remove this unit, return it to her and install the new one and I was not going to pay anyone $75.00 to profit from my misfortune. She then told me she could make that fee $50.00. I told her I was not paying that either. She referred me to a Ray Graft in Louisville, KY. I faxed him a letter on January 7, 2009 and have not heard a word since. This was today, Thursday January 22, 2009. By lunchtime, I was in the middle of the project. At lunchtime, I placed a sweet potatoe in my General Electric Spacemaker 1800 XL microwave to cook for a quick snack. After a few minutes I checked to see if it was cooked but it was still hard so I extended the time and continued to work at the cupboards. To my surprise when I glanced in the direction of the microwave, there was a flame coming from the food in the microwave. The flames quickly spread inside the microwave, and soon the smoke alarms started to go off in all the rooms. I remembered a forward that I received long ago on how to put out fires and quickly opened the microwave and tossed my husband's aprons - his Christmas gifts - on top of the flame and then soaked a towel in water fromthe sink to put on top - I was not sure in the moment whether the towels had to be dry or wet so I did both. Soon the fire was out. Needless to say, the experience was traumatic. Lots of airing, scrubbing and a later visit of our neighborhood electrician resulted in the knowledge that our microwave would in all likelihood need to be replaced.

The part has problems and should be recalled. GE knows this and this part called a Magnetron? is under warranty, but labor is not. Fine I agreed to pay for labor. GE set up the appointment on Monday told me it would $84 for labor. Confirmed this with an email (Below).
I had to wait from 8 AM 5 PM for the service rep. Today at 12: 20 PM, the serviceman called and BEFORE even coming out said that the labor cost would be $178. He said that GE should have told me and he was sure that they did not. I am beyond Angry! Why would anyone pay that much to repair a microwave? Why did GEs representatives tell me the cost would be $84? I researched it online and others have paid around $75 for the labor on this same DEFECTIVE PRODUCT!!!!

It will turn on as soon as you shut the door and the only way you can get it to quit is to open the door again. Sometimes it just doesn't work at all. Sometimes it appears to be working but it actually is not heating the food up.

I contacted my home warranty company. They sent someone out who said the magnatron antenna had burned through the passage above. it was irriparable, but it was still under warranty. I contacted GE and they told me they could replace the unit for 80% of the value. I would be responsible for 20% of the cost, Shipping and handling, and labor. I concluded that Home Warranty Programs are crap,(they wouldn't do anything because of the GE warranty) and GE doesn't stand behind it's product anymore.

My GE Spacemaker over range 1660 started arcing and snapping at about 18 mos. old and after reading all the complaints here and elsewhere I was expecting the worst. I called GE parts number in their user manual and after telling them the symptoms and that I am an experienced tech in other fields they had no problem sending me a new magnetron at absolutely no cost even for shipping. It arrived with no new stirrer antenna or diode as I expected but they looked fine anyway so I installed the mag today which took perhaps an hour as it was the first time after all. I am happy to report that it is perfect again so far. The old mag appeared to be a bit overheated but that was about all the damage I could see. In was expecting to see a lot more damage than I found.
I am not a great GE fan but I must say they came thru for me with style and were very polite. Now if they would just put a backup battery on the damn clock it would be perfect as we loose power alot here in N. Maine and this model insists on time and date before it will heat a cup of water.

A representative told me I dont have to pay anything except labor; the total charges will be $74.95 for sure since it was under warranty.
The repairman came to my house and told me -everything is fine but magnetron need to be changed, however, the total price is $190 instead $75. The price is almost as same as a brand new one. Of course, I refused his asking price. There will be more than $300 if I have to pay part. I just noticed not just my self, my neighbors have save situation, and I have a feeling if they put this on their program on purpose. They probably make money in wrong way. I want to know why they made it so difficult to change by your self if this product is very easy to be damaged. Yes, they dont want you to replace it. They just want to make money from this way.

I tried calling G.E. service to get some over the phone troubleshooting assistance but I was told that they did not do that. The only thing they would do is send out a service tech, along with a big fat service charge. This is a letter I have just composed to GE Consumer Relations:
I am writing for your assistance to attempt to resolve the matter of my defective GE Microwave. After numerous phone calls to the GE Consumer Relations Center failed to resolve my problem, I am resorting to writing to you with hopes that you can help me. We moved into our new house in January of 2006. Soon after our move, we did some minor remodeling to the kitchen and one thing we did was to purchase a new range and a GE Microwave to go above it. We purchased it from Sears Appliances in Wysox, PA, an authorized GE Dealer. After we had the microwave installed (according to the specifications on the accompanying pamphlet) for less than a year, the door frame started cracking just below the handle and then on the other side of the door as well. We called Sears and they told us to deal directly with GE. We called GE and were told we would get a new door frame to replace the one that was cracked. The fiasco that ensued for us to receive the door frame was quite something, as you sent our door frame to an address in Dallas, Texas. It took weeks and weeks and numerous phone calls for us to get the frame and then we ended up receiving two frames separately – obviously with the confusion on your end they shipped us an additional frame. Well – we had to call a GE repairman to come to replace the frame (for a cost) and low and behold, less than a year after we replaced that frame – it also cracked (in the same place). So as luck would have it, we had another frame from the original fiasco as described above. We replace the frame again and less than a year after that – the frame cracked AGAIN – in the SAME spot! So we are on our third door frame cracking in less than three years. A dear friend of our works at GE and she was kind enough to get us the number for Consumer Relations. I called for the first time about a month or so ago. I spoke to several people who were not helpful at all and offered me a 10% discount on a new microwave. I thought that was not at all in line with what we should receive for our trouble so I asked to speak to a Supervisor and ended up talking to Mr. Wilson who was very helpful. In our conversations, Mr. Wilson offered to send me a new unit for the price of $75.75. The unit we spoke about is model number JVM1740DMCC. I told Mr. Wilson I would get back a hold of him after I had looked at the unit and let him know my decision. I liked the unit and I was very pleased with this offer and another problem developed. This was the issue of where the new unit would be delivered. I called back and was never able to talk to Mr. Wilson in any of my subsequent phone calls. I asked that it be delivered to the Sears store where we purchased the original unit. I was given the run around and told that the store was a dealer but not a service center and it couldn’t be delivered there. I called the Sears Store and they were n=more than willing to have the unit sent there. Then, GE agreed to send it there and the woman I spoke to told me I had to bring in the old unit to exchange for the new one. THIS WAS NEVER DISCUSSED WITH ME AT ALL UNTIL WE WERE TO THIS POINT IN THE NEGOTIATION. I had NEVER been told that this was an exchange. As a matter of fact, when it all first began, the first woman I spoke to was offering me 10% off a new unit that would be sent to me as a new unit. So not at this late date in the process, all of a sudden I am told it is an exchange!! So that means that I have t have someone come to my house to remove the old unit and take it to the store. Then I am without a unit until the time that the new unit is delivered, the old unit is picked up and I have to call someone again to come to the house to have the new one installed. I am totally frustrated and disgusted by this whole process – and then there is the matter of the way a number of GE people have talked to me on the phone. There is obviously no such thing as customer satisfaction other than with Mr. Wilson who no one will let me talk to any more!!! He was the ONLY helpful person in this whole process. One of the women I talked to said in a condescending tone “WHY would you think we would send you a new unit for that price?? I can’t believe you would think that! Now I ask you – is that any way for your consumer relations staff person to speak to a consumer???? What I can tell you is that I want the original deal of the new unit – model number listed earlier – sent to the Sears store in Wysox, PA in good faith to compensate for the enormous amount of time spent and the total aggravation I have experienced in this whole three-year process. I will also tell you that with the way I have been treated in all of this, I will never again buy a GE product. I am so upset by this.

Fortunately, right after the warranty expired. We call GE and they sent a technician who replaced the magnetron. The technician charged a small fortune for about 20 minutes of work. I was shocked when he billed us $389 dollars. To my disbelief, the magnetron just broke down again. A little over a year since the last repair. That's another $400 to repair. Since I didn't pay for the extended warranty, I had to dish out more money. At this rate, I'll be paying about $400 every other year for this piece of ART.

All lights were off and none of the buttons had any effect. I unplugged the unit for fear of potential fire and called local appliance service company. Repairman came out the next day, plugged the unit in, and viola!...the unit came on and acted normal in all respects. The repairman said nothing was wrong with it and charged me $91.50 for a minimum amount of labor. Two days later, while heating a potato, the microwave shut down again! So, I unplugged it and let it sit for about an hour, plugged it back in and it returned to normal. I called GE Service Department and asked them what was causing this. The rep told me it was probably the mother board and it would cost approximately $216.00 (parts and labor) to replace this board. Since I do not trust "on-the-phone" analyses, and cannot be sure that is indeed the cause of the problem, I am unwilling to drive my own personal cost to more than $300.00 to fix an appliance which may fail again in the near future. I would be better off purchasing a new microwave oven and you can be assured it won't be a GE Product. It is no wonder that appliances made by American manufacturers are so crappy and unreliable.

I have the GE Spacemaker Microwave, JVM1650WB008, manufactured 2002. On Christmas, Dec. 25, 2008, my 9 year old daughter put a hot pocket in for 2 minutes and called out to me because the microwave was on fire! There was no metal or other products in there, just the hot pocket. The fire was coming out of the side of the interior wall. I googled this product and found that this is happening quite a bit and am wondering why this has not been recalled. This is extremely dangerous and it scares me to think what would have happened if my daughter had walked away. This was the second GE Spacemaker we have had, the first one began crack and fall apart after about two years. I made the unfortunate decision to replace it with the same model, since the builder had cut the space to fit this specific model. NEVER AGAIN! My home came with supposedly upgraded GE appliances, but they have all failed horribly. The dishwaher had a defective seal and caused approx. $8,000. in damage, which GE did cover, since it happened to all the homes in my track. The built in oven's control panel failed, oh course right after the warranty was up, had it replaced and paid several hundred dollars, just to fail again in another year or so. Built in range, burners began to stop working properly and just releasing gas and clicking.
Needless to say, as I have replaced all my appliances, they are not GE! I work in the remodel industry and tell everyone not to use their products, period! This fire hazard now is by far the most concerning and they should be held accountable for not recalling an appliance that can potentially cause serious damage and injury to the public.

I tried 3 more minutes and it was still room temperature. Thinking I had done something wrong, I cleared the microwave and tried another 3 minutes and this time the microwave started making a loud buzzing noise. I quickly shut if off and warmed the corn on the stove. After church today, I came home and look up the paperwork on the unit. Then I went to my trusty computer and put in GE Microwaves and found your site. I intended to call a repairman and have the unit fixed, but after reading all the complaints and fire hazards from people, I unpluged the unit and I intend to get it replaced, AND IT WON'T BE WITH A General Electric unit. I hope my stove, refrigerator and dishwasher have a longer life span than my microwave did and I hope they don't present a fire hazzard.

We built a new home less than 2 years ago and had all Monogram appliances installed. Our Monogram dual use microwave (ZMC1095SF03) gave out this past September and needed a magnetron. I knew it needed a magnetron before I called Monogram. Monogram stated they would waive the service call fee for a repairman to come out. He came out and within 20 minutes we (I helped him) replaced the magnetron. Much to my shock he stated it would be over $300 in labor for what he did. After calling Monogram they stated it would be $240 b/c of the waived service fee. I still thought it was way too high for a microwave less than 2 years old that I paid $1,800 for with a trim kit. We have been disputing the charges. I never signed anything and think the labor rate is outrageous for a part under warranty. The magnetron has a 5 year warranty. Several people at GE have stated the magnetrons have a problems and you are lucky if you get 2-3 years out of it. Anyway, I'm still disputing the charges and I'm glad I did not pay because today the magnetron went out again. GE says if I pay my original bill they will fix the magnetron again. So at this rate I'll be paying about $200 to GE every 6 months. They also offered me a new advantium with trim kit for about $900. I'm thinking I might want to stay away from built in models and GE. When remodeling my kitchen, I purchased a GE Profile microwave oven along with a refrigerator, oven, and dishwasher. The appliances sat while the work was finished. A few months later the microwave quit working. I called for repairs. A serviceman came out and ordered a part. Over a period of months parts were ordered, the repairman ordered parts and when they were delivered he said they were the wrong part. GE kept saying they were the part that he ordered. finally parts were being installed, but, alas, it never worked. After months and six repair visits (this does not include mediating between the repairman and the parts departments)and six days off work to let him in, GE replaced the microwave. At one point the repairman said it was a good thing the microwave was under warranty because the part costs around a five hundred dollars! Great business to be in; quite a mark up! Last night, surprise, it quit working again, but it is November 5th and the warranty expired on September 4th. So, do I invest hundreds of dollars in something that I expect to be junk, have an elaborate and over-priced bread box, or throw it off the back of a truck at the door to GE or Sears?

Well we figured since it was manufactured in march of 1999, maybe it was time to be replaced. With my husband being laid off work indefinitely and my job also in question, we could not afford to buy another spacesaver. So, we purchased a smaller countertop microwave also made by GE(model#JES735WJ;serial#902203U.) THIS MICROWAVE QUIT HEATING UP AFTER TWO WEEKS AND TWO DAYS! AND IT WAS MANUFACTURED IN MARCH OF 2008! Not knowing that we had purchased a piece of garbage, we lost track of the reciept. Neither my husband nor I had the patience nor the time to call these people and tell them something that they probably already knew about their merchandise. Our GE Spacesaver microwave was acting strange. By strange I mean, I couldn't turn off the light over the stove. It just went from dim to bright. It would say off, but the light was still on. I unplugged it and plugged it back in and it was fine for a day or two, but then it would do the same thing. Yesterday, I heard something running, but could not figure out where it was coming from. I finally came closer to the microwave and found the noise coming from it. No light was on and the usual fan running noise was not present. I got a flashlight and looked through the door. The turntable was going around as if the unit was in use.

I was concerned this might be a fire hazard and that there might be a recall, so I got online to check and found this website. Thinking back, I have also heard an occasional pop or crack. After reading all the problems others have had, I don't think we will bother with a warranty or repairs. We'll probably just get a new unit and not one associated with GE.

Purchased a GE JES1136 in May 2007. It was fine until a week or so ago - now sometimes, but not always, we will hear a loud buzzing noise periodically when the microwave is heating. At first I just thought, weird, what the heck, but sometimes it happens for longer & longer periods, and more often, and I noticed that when it makes this noise I can see a bright fluorescent yellow light/lightning behind this small maybe 1.5 x 2.5 inch panel on the upper left part of the right wall of the microwave. Also, if it is allowed to do this for more than a second or two, or very often, there is a burning wire/electrical smell when I open the microwave.

Sometimes it won't make this sound at all - and sometimes it will make it enough that I'm not comfortable operating the thing. So basically if we're heating something we just stand right by the microwave to make sure that we can stop it in a timely manner if it starts doing that. In fact, maybe I'll start standing around the corner from it because I feel that this may develop into a safety issue. I'm out of warranty anyway and figured that it would be more expensive to repair than to replace; from the rest of these poor people's experience, it sounds like it would be not worth the trouble/money even if it WERE still under warranty.

I bought it for $80-$90 at Walmart, not the cheapest but not the most expensive there. We purchased it for the slightly larger cabin space, and for slightly larger than the lowest wattage, because for a long time at my parents' house, we had this old microwave that was given to my parents as a gift when I was a baby, to help heat my bottles easily (I'm 24 now) and it took forever to heat food. We eventually got rid of it maybe 5 years ago either for that reason or because it started not having a problem running with the door open - which of course isn't right, but I mean, you'd have to be stupid to LET it run with the door open, so whatever.

Even though my microwave still heats my food, and doesn't ALWAYS make the buzzing and da-glo yellow, and it hasn't spontaneously combusted as have the microwaves of some people on this forum, I AM NOT fully comfortable operating it and would like to get a new microwave when it is a financial possibility or if this one gets worse. I know after reading these posts that I WILL NOT buy a GE, which I was comfortable buying because it has generally been a well-respected brand. I'm not sure what brand of new microwave I will get.

I'm almost tempted to get one of the old ones at a garage sale because even though they take a long time to heat food, they're probably safer than this new piece of poo I seem to have bought. And as I said before, though it took forever to cook stuff, my mom's microwave that she had before the one she has now lasted for like 20 years. THAT is the kind of performance I am looking for. Fortunately, no one has been injured with this appliance but as I said, I'm not totally comfortable continuing to operate it as it is, because it's obviously not a normal thing for a microwave to do. I just want it to heat my food and not break only a year and a half after I bought it new, is that so much to ask from ANY brand?

When we called Sears, they instructed us to call GE; GE would assist us in getting the replacement for the defective product.

We called GE Consumer Relations number (800-386-1215) and spoke to Adrian. She said that this is an installation problem, but they will send someone out to inspect it. The first appointment they missed and rescheduled. The second appointment was also rescheduled. Between 9-11-08 and 10-04-08, they continued to reschedule, and they missed the last scheduled appointment on 10-4-08. We did not hear back from them since 10-4-08.

We called on 10-14-08 and spoke to Adrian again who told us that this is an installation issue--not a defective product. When I asked how they determined their decision without inspection, she refused to provide a reasonable answer and would not say or offer anything else. I asked her supervisor, and Rude Peggy answered. Without any introduction, she flat out refused to offer any help. And in a sarcastic manner, she replied, "Oh yes, we do stand behind our products. Do whatever you wish." When I asked for their address to send legal documents, she refused to provide an address or any further information including her last name.

Because of their repeated delays in scheduling, I lost my 30 day return policy with Sears. The microwave works, but it is a safety issue to install it with 2 of the 3 possible contact points. This is clearly a manufacturing defect that GE refuses to take responsibility for and provide its consumer with any recourse.

I called GE service department, found out the ridiculous price of repairing it and decided to continue using it until it died completely, which was October 08. It kept overheating and would just shut off. I decided to call GE to schedule a service call. They told me that I would not have to pay for the $99.00 service call, why I haven't a clue.

Expecting the same experience everyone else had, I tried to save some time and told the woman who took my call that it was the magnatron tube and I would like to have the service man bring one with him so I didn't have to have 2 visits. The only complaint I do have is with the woman on the phone. She was rude, tried to give me an 8 hour window for the repairman and told me he would have the magnatron tube with him. Turns out, if it is a magnatron tube, they need 2 people to get the microwave out so it wasn't possible to do in 1 visit. They need 1 visit to diagnose and the other to repair.

The service man was wonderful and explained everything to me. He explained that the parts would be shipped directly to me and why, put me for the first visit the following week and showed up on time and did his work quickly and efficiently. The parts were here in a few days. I had no problems at all. Just wanted to give people a little hope if they are debating repair vs buying a new one. The magnatron tube was under warranty even though I didn't have a receipt. My microwave was manufactured in 1999. I did have to pay for service which was $187. The initial fee for them coming out was covered in the repair. I think it was $80 something if I decided not to have them repair it. Good experience out here in the Philadelphia suburbs. Thanks!

They sent me a free handle once (same exact design) but not this time.

It is unfortunate that this kind of problem will prevent me from buying another GE product because the microwave has otherwise operated flawlessly. However, I need to know a manufacturer will address design flaws without seeking to profit from the remedy.

GE Consumer Services said I would have to pay $99.95 for someone to LOOK at it only and tell me what the problem was. I would have to pay for parts and labor. They refused to give an estimate of what labor cost and parts cost would be and let me know in no uncertain terms that I would be responsible for those costs. They claimed not to know what parts were needed, yet, when I asked if it was possibly a fuse, they suddenly became knowledgeable about the fact that it was definitely not a fuse.

I made an appointment for a repair man to look at it, but after reading all the complaints listed, I think I will cancel it. After a cost of $400 plus for the oven, and being aware of what repair costs are in New York City, I have no choice but to suck this up or I will be paying close to the original cost of the oven for repair service -and for how long will it function? Another 6 months?

A unit costing this much should not burn out after 1-1/2 years. It is not right that I should have this big expense after such a short time. Bought a GE Spacesaver from out neighbors who had NEVER used it, even though it was two yeasr old. It was brand new! Installed it over our stove, worked for about two weeks and then it just went blank, like it had been unplugged. Checked everything. Circuits, outlet were okay. Called GE to find out what to do and they said they'd send out a repairman for $100.

Got on line to see what I could find out and, WOW, did I get educated. Called back and GE siad the unit was out of warranty and that there was no recall. Tried to reason with them but this was an exercise in futility. GE is NOT a company we will use in the future and we will tell EVERYONE about the problems we have had with their product, and how poor their service was. This, along with everyone elses notice will eventually put them out of business for their lack of empathy or pride of workmanship. If I treated my cleints and customers in the same way, then I'd be out of business in months!

Our GE Sensor mirowave Model JES1351WB almost caught our whole kitchen on fire! My neice placed a large frozen bagel on a paper plate and pushed the defrost button, walked into the other room, 60 seconds later black smoke poured out of the top of the microwave. I got up from 12 feet away and we opened the microwave to see flames. We had to get a fire extinguisher to put out the blackened bagel and finally the fire department came to help us remove the microwave. It was plugged in behind a heavy microwave hutch filled with dishes and canned food, so it was not easy to unplug the unit immediately.

Now the yellow extinguisher powder has left an irritating coating on everything (inside of closed cupboards included), and we have nasty smoke damage in the living room carpet and furniture. Our insurance company will not pay for the cleanup and I am disabled. My niece has since gone home to another state, my daughter had to be treated for smoke and extinguisher chemical inhalation at the hospital, and she cannot help me clean up because she is asthmatic and the chemical dust triggers another attack. What a nightmare! I have to wash every single dish and dust every single cupboard and container of food in my entire kitchen now! I cannot even go in there. I am so overwhelmed.

We moved into a new home Build by Pulte Homes in a area known as Serrano. In El Dorado Hills, California. All the appliances came templated by the hundreds of Pulte Build Homes. Pre-installed are all General Electric Appliances.

The Built-in microwave now has a f3 error. It has been absolutely annoying to beep every 30 seconds for the past four days in our house. I have turned the power to the whole house off and it seems to be on a different breaker. There is NO Way to see a power off switch either in the Breaker or on the Microwave. There are no instructions from PULTE homes to turn off the microwave or to find out where the plug is on the built in Microwave.

Annoying beeping sound. for 4 days. No access to a power off switch. The GE Alliance person said they can come out in 5 days. It is still under warranty but the GE Appliance person is still not here.

Purchased a new GE Spacemaker in Feb. 2002. The turntable motor quit after a year & a half (of course, it would have to be after the mfg. warranty had expired). It's now Aug. 2008...I'm now trying to find a new motor for it(tired of hearing the grinding noise if I forget to run it without turning the turntable off) and wondering (after reading all the other complaints on these models), if I should just bite the bullet and buy a different one (although a new motor is about $40.). I would definitely stay away from a GE model though.

I owned an Amana Microwave prior to this unit, for over 20 years...not once did I ever have a problem with it.

Whatever happened to Quality Control with GE...did they take a permanent vacation????

I purchased three GE appliances (refrigerator, electric Range and microwave) The fridge in 2005 and the Range and microwave in 2006. All three appliances stopped working and had to have replacement parts. GE tried to make us pay for the repairs to the fridge in 2007 even though they knew there was an existing problem with the water dispenser and even designed a part to fix the issue. I was on the phone with a GE Rep for several hours explaining that we should not have to pay for a part that the company knew was defective. The heating element burned completely in half in 2007 and we had to order a new one which cost $75.00 plus shipping and handling.

The Spacemaker microwave stopped working (not heating) this month due to the magnetron tube. I complained to the Better Business Bureau and received a call from Ms. C. from GE that they would pay for the service call and parts but that I would have to pay for the labor. The technician came out today for five minutes and said that the tube needed replacing and that the labor would be $100.00. I asked him how long it would take to replace the tube and he said anywhere from 30 - 45 minutes. I consider that a hefty labor charge for less than 1 hour of work. He said that if I paid for parts, visit and labor the total would be approximately $300.00. He said it would be cheaper to buy a new microwave. I would have to agree.

Therefore, I have concluded that not only is GE Appliance making alot of money from their products, but also from their service calls. Their products are not reliable. I will not buy another GE product. GE is also overcharging for visits. Especially appliances that are just a couple of years old. As Ms. C. at GE stated, "we will just have to agree to disagree". I'm having to pay $100.00 for labor when is only taking 30 or 45 min to replace a tube. That is outrageous. The appliance is only 2 years old.

Manufactured March 2004 - 4 year old GE JKP86-27 just stopped heating. It still goes on like it is heating/working but the food comes out cold.

This is a double oven unit with the microwave on top of the in cabinet oven so it is expensive to replace!

One day it was working and the next day it wasn't.... I called Sears to see about getting it serviced and the service department said it would cost as much or more to fix then to buy a new one. It has been used only to heat coffee, tea and/or cook fresh vegetables. This is in a 5 year old kitchen used by 2 people over 65 years old!

I bought an over the stove microwave on Feb 28, 2008 and installed it the middle of April, 2008. Around the third week of June I noticed a smell whenever I used the microwave. The smell got worse with each use and within a couple weeks I was unable to use the microwave. I called for service and they sent someone out within the week.

The technician arrived on July 7th, 2008 and thats when the real problem started. The technician said he would order the parts and they would be shipped to me and he would return the following Monday to put the parts in. However, I had to take the microwave off the wall for him to work on it.

I had not received the parts by Friday, July 11, 2008, I called GE again and was told that I was not on the schedule as they had one of the parts but that the magnetron tube was on backorder with no estimated date of arrival. I stated that this was unacceptable and that if they couldn't fix it they need to replace it. The customer service representative then told me to call the next day as the parts could come in and be shipped and would be here on time. I called on Saturday only to find that all I got was an automated response. The automated response indicated that I was scheduled for service as promised, so we took the microwave off the wall.

The following morning, Monday, July 14, 2008 I received an automated call at approximately 7:45 AM that stated I was the next service call. I waited until 10 AM, then called to find out what the delay was. At that point I was informed that there was no service as the parts were not in and still not estimated date of arrival. She said she would check into it and call me back. I contact another customer service rep at noon and was again told they had no estimated date of arrival for the parts.

She suggested I contact a different division of the customer service, when I demanded that something be done to rectify this problem. When I called the other division, I was told they had an estimated date for the parts to arrive as July 25th. I stated that waiting another two to three weeks with the microwave taking up a large portion of my counter was unacceptable. As this representative was uncooperative and somewhat rude in her responses, I hung up on her and called back to speak to someone else. This representative said she looked it up and that the parts were due in on July 18th. When I questioned the fact that with four different people supposedly looking at the same computer screen there were three different answers, she said that this was what her computer said and that it was the best she could do.

I contacted the store where I bought the microwave, Lowes and explained the problem to them. Since I bought this particular microwave based on their recommendation, I ask if they could help. I was told that there was nothing they could do but they would make a call and see if they could find out any additional information. They called back to tell me there was nothing they could do and that they had gotten the same response I had already received.

At 3 PM I received a call from someone who identified himself as the GE repairman and he informed me that the regular guy had called in sick and so he was doing double the work and he wasnt sure when or if he could get to my place that day. After some discussion with him whining about how it was already 3 PM and he had not even had lunch yet, etc, I ask if he had the parts. He told me they were to be shipped to me and I should have them. When I explained the situation he said he just wanted to let me know he might be late or not get there and that he didnt know what to do about the parts. I finally told him if he did not have the parts, it would be useless for him to come by as he couldnt make the repairs anyway.

On July 24th, 2008 I received a call from A-1 Delivery Service. I was ask to set up an appointment to deliver my microwave. I ask if this was a new or reconditioned microwave and was told it was new. The appointment was set for Tuesday July 29th, 2008. On Monday, July 28th, 2008 A-1 Delivery called again to give me a set timeframe of before noon for the delivery.

On Tuesday I waited until almost 1PM before I called to see if there was a problem as the delivery had not yet arrived. I was told I was the next stop and they arrived shortly thereafter. However, once again there was a problem. The driver/installer informed me that the microwave was the wrong color. I told him to install it anyway as I didnt want to wait any longer. He started telling me that they could have the white one out on Friday morning, that since my other appliances were all white. I stated that I really didnt want to wait any longer, but he said since I had a white one and that I might want to match all the appliances, and it would only be 3 days. When I expressed concern about the fact that I didnt want to waste another day waiting for a delivery, he promised to deliver it before 8 AM. He said that they made their deliveries to the desert early so they could get out of the heat and that his first delivery that day had been in Indio at 6:40 AM. I finally agreed to let them bring a white one on Friday, August 1st, 2008.

On August 1, 2008 I got up early to make sure I was ready for the delivery. However, once again I was disappointed. I called A-1 Delivery at 8 AM to see when they would be here only to be informed that they wouldnt be making the delivery. Once again I had been lied to. When I spoke to Campos at A-1 Delivery he said the only way to order a different unit was if the one they delivered was damaged.

As it was never taken out of the box, I am quite sure it was not damaged. He stated that they did not re-order for a color change. It appears that I was put off once again by GE in an effort to keep me from calling my lawyer. With the effort the delivery guy put into convincing me to wait three days for the white one, I am suspicious about their involvement as well. At this time I still do not have a working microwave, but a box from GE arrived the day after the driver convinced me to wait for the right color. No one has contacted me about any repairs and at this point I am sure there must be so many problems with this unit that I worry I will have more issues even if it gets fixed. After all why would there be such a backlog on parts for a unit that was manufactured in January 2008??

The last conversation I had with anyone was with Campos at A-1 Delivery at approximately 9:30 AM today (August 1, 2008). At that time he said he had sent an email to GE, [after he told me he was going to call them when I spoke to him at 8 AM this morning] and that he would send another.

Since this began I have been lied to, put off and just plain ignored. Why is it such a problem to simply fulfill a warranty promise??

Extra cost of gas to cook with, which created more heat, therefore causing extra use of electricity for cooling unit to maintain a comfortable temperature in my home. Inability to utilize kitchen to fullest extent due to space required on counter for defective unit. Not to mention the stress and frustration I feel in trying to deal with this situation
