I got a GE cafe two years ago, all the matching appliances. A few weeks ago, we heard beeping in the middle of the night. ow every night at two am we get a message on the panel with annoying beeping. This weekend, we went out of town and when we returned the microwave was and had been on for a very long time. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that our house could burnt to the ground while we were gone! Thank God it didn't! Not to mention. my dishwasher does not clean! It takes 3 runs to wash.

I bough a GE microwave oven, model JVM1740SM1SS, less than 2 years ago. The keypad says that it is shorted out and needs service. It turns on randomly. I unplugged it and plugged it back in, and it will either say, 'service needed, keypad shorted out' or 'press clock.'

GE has so many complaints about there microwaves, some that are very serious. They still claim that there are no problems with them. They have to know there are problems, but do not want to issue a recall and take a financial lose. It's only a matter of time, before something so serious happens that it will be a bigger financial lose than a recall.

GE built-in oven with microwave on top in white color, model no. JKP90CMICC. Microwave's outside door is peeling off in chunks. This is a manufacturer defect and I have contacted GE to see if they will stand behind their product's quality and replace this door of the microwave. I have heard so many negative things about GE customer service so I don't have much hope but I have to pay to replace this poorly constructed door. I will never buy another GE product and I will spread the word on how they treat their customers. I will post again when and if I hear back from them.

GE Monogram mfg date Sept '04 had quit working and the repairman said it’s the magnetron. He said he quit selling appliances for this very reason - it cost as much to repair as buying new. He said they make them as throw-away appliances. That's what's wrong with our manufacturing! Something that expensive should last more than 5 years!

I purchased a GE over-the-range microwave, GE Profile **, on 2/22/2005 as part of a kitchen renovation. I also purchased the GE Profile dual-fuel range, **, and the Profile ** refrigerator at the same time.

I am now having to replace the over-the-range microwave as the interior enamel is chipping off in chunks rather than the discreet amounts in the beginning. The dual fuel range burst into flames and was replaced 3 years ago (the line was eventually recalled). The tracks that support the drawers in the refrigerator are breaking off slowly but surely, meaning they will not be useable shortly. I would not take a GE appliance as a gift.

Fact no. 1: On 02/25/07, I supplanted a burnt-out 12-year old Kenmore microwave oven. Regretfully, my replacement of choice is a GE JES1456WJ02 unit acquired at Home Depot in Cumberland. At that stage, my spouse was afflicted with an advanced case of Parkinson's disease, and eventually, I had her concerned caregiver reporting having found chips of paint spread on food extracted from the new oven. From that point onward, I established a close watch of the infamous appliance, after confirming that the chipping paint originated from the roof of the GE oven. But I withheld from filing a claim with GE at the time because my wife's health deterioration absorbed all my attention.

Fact no. 2: But on 12/12/09, a couple of months after my beloved one passed away, I decided to take the oven to a Home Depot claim department where they immediately agreed to replace the defective unit for another one of similar characteristics. With a sigh of relief, thinking that I had taken care of the problem, my assumption was incorrect.

Fact no. 3: Today, 10/28/11 in fact, I discovered chips of paint floating over a plate of soup extracted from the GE oven. I was aghast! I couldn't believe it! Still, further inspection determined that the lousy internal coat of paint is likewise peeling off from this monstrosity appliance manufactured by GE.

Since 2010, our 2006 GE 1.1 cu. ft. countertop microwave oven model # JES1136WL has had power failure problems. It began in our previous home and now in our next home. All of a sudden, I'd check the panel and it would say "PF", which means power failure. So, I'd reset the clock and there it is, ready for the next usage. Over a year later, in our new home, as of yesterday, it will start and immediately cut off. Now, we've been using this microwave in the same plug since May and now it's October. So, what happened? Today, I'm looking for the user's manual and have located it online. But it appears that the PDF GE has for it, the Adobe document, has a problem. So, I'm going to check it on my laptop, as this is my PC. Thank God we only paid under $100 for it. On some of these consumer complaint stories, the person paid a great deal for theirs.

We will just buy a KitchenAid instead. The LCD panel is not sealed, so when you cook, even using the exhaust fan, the moisture gets up in there and damages the panel. This is such a terrible design. We paid $600 for this microwave thinking it is a good quality appliance. Never buy GE! I was in Best Buy yesterday and told people who were there looking at microwaves. Terrible quality! I have a General Electric HVM1540DN1WW over the stove microwave that I have had. This month will be a year and a half. The oven stopped heating so being a DIY person, I pulled the oven out and took it to my workshop to see if it was something I could repair.

Inside the front panel was a very helpful schematic of the whole oven. Using the troubleshooting step listed on the paper, I found that the Magnetron tube had gone out. So I went to my owner's manual and found that the tube had a four-year warranty on it so I called General Electric consumer relations to have the part replaced.

First I had to fight with them because they said it was only covered for a year. After about an hour and a half on the phone and giving her the publication number on the manual, she agreed that it was indeed covered for four years. So she said that she would replace the part and she would even send a technician out to install it at no charge. I was very happy at this point. She said that she would ship the part to me next day with UPS and the tech would be out the following day to replace it. So far so good, till the next day when the part did not arrive.

I called back in to General Electric consumer relations and spoke with a man this time and he told me that she had canceled the order that is why I did not receive it, and he couldn't see why. So he looked at the comments she had made the day before and did see that she said she would replace it and send a tech. The tech was supposed to be here the next day and I had no part for him to install. The man said he would place the order and have it shipped to me by the next day no later than 10 a.m. and the tech would be here between 1 to 5 p.m. Great! Until the next day and again no part when they said it would be there.

Again with the call only to find out that it was scheduled to arrive next day guaranteed by 7 p.m. The tech is supposed to be there with in the next few hours and I wouldn't have the part. I called Fed-Ex and sweet-talked the lady into getting a hold of her driver to see if she could get to me ASAP.

Bingo, next thing you know I have the part, the tech calls and the part is replaced. Oh boy, the big gaping hole above my stove is finally going to be filled once again. (I promise I am coming to the end.) After reinstalling the oven, I found out that it was taking longer to heat than when I got it, and it has a brand new Magnetron in it.

Again with the call to General Electric consumer relations to set up another tech to come out and check it out. So the following day, the same tech arrives and puts a cup of just barely cool water in it and puts it in for 30 seconds, pulls the water out and says "it is working just like it is supposed to" and leaves. Well, again I called General Electric consumer relations to let them know what has transpired, but this time I asked to speak with someone higher up the food chain. I then spoke to a lady and she said that she would set up another tech to come out and check it out, and if it resulted in the same way that she would replace the unit with a new one.

The following day, the same tech calls me and said that the oven is working the best that it could so I should call back to consumer relations as he did and set it up for a new one to be sent in its place. So I called once again and was not able to speak with the same lady and the only thing she could do is send me a voucher for $250 laying around for a new oven, but I would have to purchase one and send the voucher in with the receipt to get a refund. I told her that I did not have a spare $250 dollars around to go buy a new oven and then wait for the refund to get to me. So I asked that she have the lady that said she would replace it to call me back to straighten this problem out.

Finally the following week, the lady calls me back and said, "This is the best that I can do, due to me voiding the warranty." I asked, "What?" She said that the tech that spoke with me said that because I had hard wired in the unit to the house wiring, it was receiving low voltage so she couldn't do any better than that. I told her that was the most asinine comment I have ever heard coming from a field tech and asked her whether he went to a school backyard Techs-r-Us. I asked if she would have the tech call me to explain. I also gave her some friendly advice that she should not use that comment to anyone else for fear of someone laughing at her. We agreed to have the voucher sent if that was the best she could do.

I will not buy another GE appliance again! I have purposely not mentioned anyone's name because it was the experience, not the person that I spoke with.

GE brags about employing its own service technicians yet, when I called to schedule an appointment to fix our Advantium 120 microwave (3 years old), they told me that unless I provided proof of purchase to the technician, he would charge me even for parts under warranty such as the magnetron tube. This in spite of the fact that they have all the purchase information at their fingertips, as I reported when we registered our purchase. They even told me our date of purchase, had our address, email address, etc. They dismissed my suggestion that an email from them to me that I could show the technician should suffice. After 3 years and severe family health issues, I have sadly misplaced the proof of purchase, not realizing that registering the appliance for warranty provided no real benefit; not even proof that I didn't steal the thing. I am saddened that a company of the former stature of GE would stoop so low to avoid a legitimate warranty repair.

Two years ago, after owning a GE JVM1490 microwave-convection oven (over the stove) for three years, the door handle broke.

Let me clarify that I worked for GE first as an engineer, later as manager, for 20 years including 6 in Major Appliances. I am ashamed of what I am reading how GE is treating customers today.

I am perfectly capable of replacing the handle myself if I am provided the complete and correct assembly drawings and/or instructions. GE refused to provide me anything when I requested them. The scant drawings and instructions I found online are insufficient. As a matter of fact, the design is so poor that removing the internal bezel, which you must do to reach the handle fasteners, forces you to break the mounting tabs, requiring replacement of this part plus the handle. This was confirmed by the parts store I visited.

However, even after removing the bezel, neither I nor another ex-GE appliance engineer could figure out the access to the fasteners. I have glued the handle three times using epoxy and Cyanoacrylate (super glue), but it has broken off a fourth time. I will figure out a way of fixing it before I pay GE close to $100 for both the handle and bezel. And if I replace the appliance, you can be sure it will not be GE.

GE should be ashamed of the poor design and deplorable customer service they are giving now. How things have changed!

My suggestion is that all with this problem post name and phone number of GE customer service personnel they spoke with.

Now, in less than two years, the inside is already clipping off so it is dangerous to use. I returned it to the store and was told that the guarantee was good for only one year. So, I would have to pay to have it repaired. My last microwave (before GE) lasted well over 10 years. I always thought that GE was a good company; I guess not. I feel that it is their fault. I seldom use the microwave and I even clean it with a damp cloth. I do not think that I should have to pay for the repairs and I should be given some kind of a discount on a new one. It is for a door seal gasket for the microwave. A model JVM60 GE Spacemaker installed over the range. The microwave worked perfectly for several years. Then one day, when I pressed the start button, I noticed a small fire inside the window above the control panel where the time is displayed.

I called repair man; I was told that it was the circuit board, and GE was not able to send repair spare part. Since then the microwave is only good for displaying the time, and storing my everyday pan. I do remember paying $400.00 for this microwave because I purchased it at my employment. It would seem to me a company making a $400.00 appliance would be backed by a circuit board, which they know would go bad in a short time. That's why they only had a one year warranty guarantee.

To show you the difference in a microwave appliance, I purchased a small counter top microwave in 1997; it still works like a charm, and I use it every day. From the negative reviews I read on these Spacemaker microwaves, I firmly believe there should be some compensation to us consumers for the money spent, plus the hazards we experienced. GE SPACEMAKER XL 1800, Model Number JVM1870SK03: I have had nothing but problems with this microwave since I purchased it. First, the underneath light did not work, then subsequently, some of the buttons on the front panel didn’t function, and it made a loud buzzing noise which I thought it would explode in addition to the sparks that were observed inside the microwave. I could only heat for 2 minutes, after 2 minutes, the microwave would power down and then restart in the middle of the night making a beeping sound.

I had two licensed electricians here which cost several hundred dollars. After contacting GE, I got absolutely no assistance from them whatsoever. In fact, they were quite nasty and offered for a GE technician to come out for $150 plus cost of repairs. I replaced the magnetron only to have the same problem 1 month later. Once again, I contacted GE and they basically told me to purchase another microwave as it sounds like it was "shot". When purchased new, this cost over $850.00! I would never purchase another GE product. I have now come to read that the stove I have from them is listed as being recalled, a fire hazard and is dangerous!

I placed a punctured potato in my GE microwave model JVM1850DMCC serial number **and pressed the "Potato" button. The microwave caught fire and the only thing that shut it off was the safety thermostat. A GE technician came out to my house to repair the microwave oven. The microwave was totally dead and had fire damage. It was unrepairable because the oven cavity was unrepairable and he stated that the microwave needed to be replaced. While he was at our premise, I called GE Consumer Relations and they agreed to replace the microwave which was only eight months old and under the original manufacturer's warranty. They said that they would call and send a technician out as soon as it was shipped from their warehouse.

Three days later, I receive a call from GE that they were refusing to replace the microwave and offered me a $150 coupon off the purchase of another GE microwave. I called back and spoke to Cindy in Consumer Relations and she argued with me and stated that they are not responsible for microwave oven fires and that I should have been standing there watching the potato. I explained that the potato sensor button failed and that the only thing that would shut off the microwave was the safety thermostat according to the technician. They sent another GE technician out to my house and even though the potato sensor failed, he would not declare the microwave defective. He tested it with the replaced safety thermostat and said that the beverage button worked, so the microwave was fine and not GE's fault. I am very upset that GE refuses to be responsible for their faulty product and will never again purchase GE products in the future.

There was extensive smoke damage to my home because the smoke was blowing out of the microwave and the microwave was dead so the microwave fan would not work to blow the smoke out of the house. I had to put fans at all the entrances and open windows.

I am still without a microwave. It is sitting in my garage. I had the technician remove it because it stunk up my home. I feel that I should be reimbursed for the faulty microwave or that they should replace it free of charge. I had purchased a 4-year extended warranty with this microwave that was supposed to start August 2011. It does me no good if I don't have a microwave.

I walked over to the microwave and it was running by itself. On the screen, it was scrolling, "Fresh vegetables...canned vegetables...frozen vegetables"! I started hitting the stop button, but it didn't work. So I unplugged it. I plugged it back in and it started running again with the same message scrolling across the screen! I unplugged it again, plugged it back in and the message on the screen says something about the keyboard shorting and it may need to be serviced. We just got the thing last summer. After reading all of the other complaints, I am scared to buy another GE microwave. This one is going to the junkyard in the morning.

I called GE regarding the issue and was told that the part was covered and the labor was not. I asked the customer relation operator what the standard life expectancy of a GE microwave was and she refused to answer. I asked if a year and two months was reasonable and her answer was I should have purchased an extended warranty. She told me a service call would be around $100 and the failed part would be covered. Why should I have to spend additional dollars on a part that is clearly defective?

At this point I would rather strap this piece of ** to the roof of my Suburban and write on the back of windshield, "Ask me about my GE experience!" and purchase a reliable produce like Maytag or LG that is made in the USA and not in Mexico. Even the company I bought it from (Home Depot) said they have had so many problems with GE products that they were encouraging people to purchase different product lines. The microwave interior top panel is melting and the paint is chipping away and exposing metal which we've been told can now rust. My GE Spacesaver Microwave oven is just 17 months old. The door handle has broken. I have had three of these microwaves in the past and multiple broken door handles. I have no children and my husband and I don't even use the microwave on a daily basis. Two years ago, prior to replacing my last microwave, I called GE's customer complaint line and they told me no one else had complained about their door handles. So I finally replaced that microwave. (I was replacing the handle several times a year.)

Now, on this 17 month old unit, the same thing has happened again. When I called to complain yesterday (7/26/10), the woman I spoke with was very rude. She told me that she was not aware of any problems with their door handles. When I persisted, she asked me how I was cleaning the unit. I told her that I use Windex. She told me that that was the problem, that the owner's manual clearly says ammonia and alcohol will damage the unit. She told me they had done tests with ammonia and that cleaning the door with it would not only cause the handle to break, but that the door would crack. I told her that, indeed, my door was cracked too. I happened to have my owner's Manual with me when I called so I read to her what it said about cleaning the unit, "We recommend against using cleaners with ammonia or alcohol, as they can damage the appearance of the microwave oven...."

I argued that this recommendation was based on concerns for the "appearance" of the unit and that I had used Windex on appliances for years very successfully, always enhancing the appearance and never damaging it. It did not clearly state not to use ammonia or alcohol. It was their recommendation. I also argued that a broken door handle was not an issue of "appearance," rather it was an issue of "functionality." She would not give in. She told me that the unit was no longer under warranty and that I would have to pay for a new handle ($40, but she would give me a discount because of my complaint and only charge me $20). She also told me that I could replace the entire door for $200 (she would discount that to $100) but that she could not ship a door directly to me as I could not install the door myself because there was a radiation hazard.

Now the microwave only cost $450; the door was priced at $200? She, of course, wanted to schedule their service people to come to my house and do the repair. I asked to speak to her supervisor. I finally got to speak with Keisha who was just as bad as the first person I spoke with. The only thing she said that was different was that she could ship me the door if I wanted and that there was not a concern for radiation. She was unsympathetic. I wasted an entire hour on the phone (having been passed to four people prior to Keisha). I ended up paying $20.95 for a new door handle and hanging up very disappointed with GE, once again. I asked Keisha if she had documented my complaint and if someone would review it. She said she had documented it but that, "no one else will review it. I'm the one who reviews it. "

About one minute later, I smelled a bad smell, and at the same time the smoke detectors throughout my house started making noise. I looked at the microwave and there was a fire on the right side of the microwave interior! I ran over and pulled the burning box out and ran it under the faucet to put it out. The plastic piece that covers the magnetron output on the right side of the microwave was still burning, but I was able to blow it out like a birthday candle.

I have examined the scorched pizza box and the debris inside the microwave. There is no evidence at all that there was anything metal or otherwise inappropriate for putting in the microwave. It's the same cardboard pizza box I have heated pizza in many dozens of times over the years. I have no idea what or why this happened.

When I contacted GE, they told me the warranty had expired and a new handle would be $90, just for a handle. The reason it snapped off was because a cheap plastic plug that held a screw in place simply broke off. This is planned obsolescence.

They sent someone out that was not a GE Factory trained technician who did not even have any parts. I had to schedule another day off for another call. Bottom line is GE will give you the run-around hoping you will give up your claim. Prior to this, the turntable had been in perfect condition, no cracks or damage whatsoever. I wish I could attach a copy of a receipt I have for two lamp holders for my GE microwave oven. The back-story is this... The bulbs in my microwave gave out and needed replacing. After being screwed in to their holders for a couple of years, these bulbs are difficult to remove. In fact, in both cases, while trying to unscrew the bulbs, the glass shell of the bulb separated from the metal base that screws in to the bulb holder. Both of them!

When this happens, the bottom of the microwave has to be take apart to remove the bulb's metal base. Sometimes that goes successfully, sometimes not. In this case, not! The bulb holder was brittle and while trying to get the metal bulb base out of it, both bulb holders cracked and needed replacing, which I did.

So, in order to replace two $3 bulbs, I ended up spending over $30 bucks to fix this problem.

My request to you is that you please make the bulbs of sufficient quality such that they may be unscrewed without the glass separating from the base! Should be easy for as large a bulb supplier as you, eh?

We have a GE Profile SpacemakerXL microwave oven that is 9 years old. We have already had the magnetron tube replaced a couple of years ago. The microwave just stopped heating again, and we are assuming it is the magnetron tube again. While the part is still covered under the 10-year warranty for magnetron tubes, we are not able to find out the labor costs as it is GE's poor policy to not give out that information.

Their policy is putting the consumer in a difficult position forcing them to pay the service fee without knowing what the labor costs are and whether or not it is feasible for the consumer.

I have read about hundreds of complaints of this nature, and GE is unwilling to change their policy. This being said, we have decided not to have the microwave fixed, as it is very likely we will have the same magnetron issue a year or two down the road. We will be replacing our microwave with anything other than GE. It is this type of service that will keep me from buying other GE products as well. I suspected a magnetron based on other complaints in the internet, which it was. GE came out on 3/30/10 and replaced the magnetron, and charged me $223.62. I am outraged that an appliance that is just 3 yrs. old and gets only minimal use would need a major part like this replaced. I never in my 54 years had to pay for an appliance to be repaired so early after purchasing it. Most of my appliance over the years lasted well into their teens! Something is wrong and I was ripped off, what is my recourse? Consequence is the $223.62, which I know I will never see. I feel if enough people complain then GE may at some time be held accountable for selling appliance that are obviously faulty in some way.

The microwave was built Jan 2009 in Malaysia and installed in May of 2009. When the 1:30 was up, she opened the door to check on it. When she closed the door and began to re-program it for some additional time, the glass on the front exploded with a large bang. Being a combat vet, this didn't sit too well with me. It was safety glass, but small fragments flew all over the kitchen. She could easily have gotten a splinter in her eye. No harm was done except scaring the crap out of us. We purchased a GE Microwave Oven in November of 2008 (Model WES1384SMSS). We have had some problems with it apparently overheating while baking potatoes using "convenience feature" 7. The oven would seem to shut down afterward and be unusable for a period of time following. Whether or not that has any relation to the problem that has not rendered the microwave now inoperable, we do not know.

Two days ago, my husband reheated a cup of coffee in the microwave for 40 seconds and when the cycle was completed, he removed the cup from the microwave and sat down to have breakfast. About 30 seconds later, he heard a very loud pop and hissing sound from the microwave and when he turned to look he discovered that the glass in the door had virtually exploded. The sound was loud enough to send our normally not excitable dogs into a frenzy of frightened barking. Although the glass looks as though it is only cracked in hundreds of places and still intact, there were actually tiny fragments of glass that shot out onto the counter top and floor.

The microwave is, of course, beyond its one year warranty and it is probably pointless to contact GE about the matter. However, we feel this should be reported as a safety hazard because had anyone been close to the microwave when the glass broke, there could have been possible eye injury or damage due to the force with which the glass spread out into the room.

The third year, the Spacesaver microwave started making a grinding noise and quit, no clock, no lights, nothing. Nothing heats in the microwave oven now. Everything else works fine. I called Customer Service as this should be under warranty. The Profile line is their "top of the line" product and at the price it is, should definitely last longer than 2 1/2 years. I feel certain it is the magnetron tube which has gone out.

The GE microwave cook center (model JKP 85) needed servicing in 2007 (a new control panel) and the magnetron has been replaced twice in 5 years. Now the inner surface of the microwave is shedding its epoxy coating where the three plastic wheels that hold up the glass turntable touch the bottom of the microwave.

Checked the GE website and they say this is only a cosmetic issue as long as there are no holes in the surface of the microwave (there are no holes). I've scheduled a GE service call; they said they will wave the $89 service fee if I allow the technician to fix the microwave. Their website recommends a $34 can of their spray paint to fix the surface, but I want the technician to confirm the microwave is safe to use and then he/she can fix the surface. I asked whether the microwave can be replaced, but GE says the entire oven/microwave unit has to be replaced for $2100 plus labor and delivery. Sounds like a scam to me given all the complaints I've read about GE microwaves!

There was no mention anywhere that there was supposed to be a clear plastic film to prevent food from going through! The owner’s manual mentions glass door, metal shield, and how to wipe clean. But nowhere in the owner’s manual does it ever mention there is supposed to be a clear film, nor any mention of how to replace or clean this film.

We thought we needed to remove the screen to clean, and I called GE Customer to ask how to remove the shield. It was then that I was told there was supposed to be a clear plastic film to prevent food from splattering through the door. They scheduled a service person to come out. Instead, he called and said the door would require replacing. He ordered a door and rescheduled to come out when the door was to arrive. He suggested I call Customer Service and they should waive the costs since my original microwave came without the film.

When the new door arrived, I looked at the clear film, and had I not known in advance to leave it be, I would have peeled it off! It looks just like the protective strips that come on most electronics that you are supposed to remove prior to use! (One of the customer service reps stated that if GE had wanted the customer to remove the film, it would have stated so in the instructions. But when asked why the instructions did not state to leave it in place, I was told "We can't give instructions on every little aspect")

Customer Service agreed to waive the $165.00 cost of the door but said to have the service tech call them when he arrived and then they could decide if they would waive the labor charges. Once the service tech was here, he called and after putting me on the phone with two different reps, I was told they refused to waive the labor costs. They said I was outside the warranty window and felt they had done enough by waiving the cost of the door. Then I am told by the service tech that the charge for him to arrive at my door was $79.95, which by that time, I already owed! I said for him to go ahead and change out the doors. Imagine my surprise when not 5 minutes later, he told me I owed $170.93 ($79.95 trip charge and $90.93 labor)!

I am searching for my original receipt and then I will complain to Home Depot or Lowe’s as well. I tried to "Buy American", and I feel I have been taken advantage of! All this for a microwave that I use only to reheat food and water! The total out of pocket was $170.93. However, I want to make the point that GE should make customers aware that the clear film is meant to be left in place and not peeled off!

I own a GE Microwave Oven manufactured in September 2003 (Model No. JES1039WF001, Serial No. SF903490B). I would like to express my concern for the general safety of this product. I recently came home to find my microwave running and spontaneously sparking fire and smoking. The fire stopped when I unplugged the appliance. I removed the microwave from my house as quickly as possible so not to inhale the toxic smoke it was emitting. I left the house approximately 4 hours prior to this discovery and can confirm that the microwave was not on nor was it used that day. I am very thankful that I arrived home when I did, because it could have severely damaged my home and injured my pets. This fire was extremely unnerving and scary to think about what could have happened if I had not arrived home when I did. This dangerous event has discouraged me from purchasing any GE appliances in the future.

We purchased a GE microwave 3 years ago and the paint on the top started popping off and the microwave top could not be cleaned. No cleaner was ever sprayed on the inside of the microwave. The paint would fall in the food that was being heated which was dangerous for our children and ourselves and therefore could not be eaten and would have to be thrown away. Well, we thought maybe that was a manufacturer defect and then bought another GE microwave and now the same thing is happening to this microwave. The paint in bubbling on top and now on the bottom and this microwave will also have to be trashed. We feel we should make the public aware of this dangerous health hazard. We also feel we should be reimbursed by GE for both microwaves. A warning to consumers, do not purchase any GE appliances.

We bought a new Microwave and an oven from GE 2 years back. The paint on the interior (top part) started peeling off. We see quite a few paint cracks on the microwave interior. We bought the 3 years extended warranty. When we called GE to get it replaced we were redirected to Assurant, their insurance agency. We were told that the insurance covers only if the microwave is not functional. And this doesnt qualify as a functional fault. The paint inside the microwave shouldn't be peeling off in a couple of years. We paid a lot to get the top of the line oven and even bought the extended warranty to make sure we are covered if something like this happens. Right on the microwave it says "Do not attempt to operate this oven with damaged door, hinged latch or sealing surface". The Model number is JTP86S0H6SS serial number is VL629088Q.

On September 20, we went to Lowe's to ask if they had heard from GE about problems the microwaves were having. The salesman said no-they weren't aware of anything. If we had bought the extended warranty from Lowe's, they would have taken care of it. I think I've only had 3 other microwaves during my 35 years of marriage.
