My new Friedrich unit keeps cycling off and on. The Friedrich tech says the internal thermostat is getting confused, that I need a remote thermostat. They stopped making remotes for this model in 2019.

I bought a PTAC (model #Wallmaster WE12D33-A) in March of 2016. The unit was installed in early May. In August of 2019 the air conditioner failed. A certified repairman replaced the condenser and compressor at that time. The warranty only partially covered the almost $1,000 repair. In May of 2021 the unit was again not functioning. A $1000.00 got me one summer of use. The certified repairman came back and indicated I needed a new unit. I made repeated calls to Friedrich service and customer/warranty departments with no results after 3 weeks of trying and callback requests. I obviously bought a "lemon". Have have received no good faith attempt by Friedrich to rectify the problem. Do not purchase or do business ever with Friedrich. They are not a reputable company and do not stand behind their products. Their customer service is completely non-responsive (if you can get through). They do not care.

We have had three Kuhl AC's (thru wall), models SQ06N10B and SQ06N10C. Each and every one has failed after 1-3 years and they are not cheap! In one case, a unit stopped cooling after 2 years (all same failure), Friedrich authorized one of their repair outfits to look at it. They had it from Sept 2016 to April 2017, unable to repair so Friedrich replaced it. The replacement failed in one year! Another unit failed at 3 years, authorized repair could not repair it after 6 months, Friedrich had to replace it. That replacement failed after 2 years same way. We now have a unit that is failing after only 3 years, insufficient cooling like others. But in the meantime Friedrich pulled a fast one, no longer warranty on both parts plus labor on sealed system, only parts. So, a repair, if possible could run close to a thousand dollars if they spend a lot of time on it! Not only that, the replacements they sent in past years are guaranteed only from date that failed unit was bought.

Note that all failed units made IN MEXICO. It should be noted that over 20 years ago we had wall units from Friedrich and 2 out of 3 still work, they used to make good products but no more! One spends $70-$800 on a wall unit and consistently fails in 1-3 years? NO MORE. Will buy inexpensive window units from now on, likely Japanese! STAY AWAY FROM FRIEDRICH - they are junk now and have a terrible warranty!

Friedrich a/c rebate is a scam as stated by others on this site. I have been waiting for my rebate since summer 2020. It is now May 2021. When you call, they verify address and promise it is enroute. I also received an email confirmation that the check is on the way...again. They constantly try to blame my address that has never changed; I have NO issues receiving mail. I reported them to Better Business Bureau. They lied to BBB and claimed that they reached out to me to verify my address...yet again! I will report them to my state Consumer Affairs next. This is going on for several months now. Imagine the desperation of a corrupt business that prefers to play games with consumers rather than send a $30 rebate check. Friedrich has destroyed their reputation. I will never buy their products again.

Purchased a Friedrich Room Air Conditioner in August. It came with a $30 rebate offer. Rebate will be sent in 4-6 weeks. It is now December. No rebate. I contacted "support". Don't bother calling as they don't answer. I emailed "support". I did get a reply that basically said... "Hey, we sent it to our rebate vendor (whatever that is) and they must be running behind. Your rebate was approved, it's just that they are running behind." I followed up with another email saying "I want my rebate now."... Reply..."I told you, they are running behind." I filed a complaint with the BBB (there were 32 complaints about Friedrich there before mine).

My advice... don't buy from this company. Research every major purchase you make. Google the company's name and add the word "complaints" or "Issues" to it. I also filed complaints with my state's Consumer Affairs Office and the Office of the Attorney General. I contacted the local Friedrich dealer (the one I purchased the unit from) and gave him the details. He said he would check out the BBB website and discuss it with other dealers in the area. I hope they stop buying from this company.

I have been going through nothing but aggravation since I purchased a Friedrich thru the wall air conditioner (model UCT12a10a) in April 22, 2019, used it for four months, uncovered it this season only to have warm air coming from the unit. Because the year was up I had to go through Friedrich limited warranty. Due to (covid 19) every Friedrich repair shop in my area was closed, couldn't get anyone to come and check out the AC. The process with Friedrich went back and forth until June when I was told my only option was to go to a repair shop they recommended that was out of state to drop off the AC. Three weeks later received a call from the repair shop to pick up the ac. The ac worked for a few days only to have the same problem return.

Spoke to Friedrich hoping perhaps I could get some kind of replacement or refund and I was told my only option was to go back to the same repair shop to get it fixed. So again I went out of state to drop off the ac. I tried to leave feedback at PC Richards where I purchased the air conditioner, I received an email in August saying my feedback cannot be published to the website. I also received another email for my contact information so they can contact the vendor on my behalf to see if they can resolve the issue. I then received a phone call that the ac would be replaced, come to the store drop off the old unit and pick up the new ac. Well here I am again two months later with a replacement Friedrich UCT12A10A, same problem, warm air coming from the unit. I am DONE with Friedrich products!

THE MANUALS ARE TERRIBLE! That said, however, the units (I have personally now installed 3 of them) are quite good. Why did I buy the next 2? After the 1st install, I no longer needed the so called installation manual(s). I strongly suggest that before you purchase (if you plan to DIY) examine the installation manuals online. You will find for example that LG's documentation to be extensive and Friedrich's very minimal. -- I might add that a couple of calls to customer service dept were also less than satisfactory. I give the units 4 stars and the documentation 1 star.

Had an authorized Tech service guy come in to look at them. He agreed they were noisy but couldn't do anything about the noise level or the faulty thermostat. Contacted Friedrich headquarters to no avail. Despite the fact that they are (falsely) marketed as quiet units headquarters guy told me the warranty doesn't cover noise level. He didn't address the thermostat issue at all. Guess that isn't covered either.

After just two and a half years I knew that it was not as cold as it used to be and this was proven just before I replaced it. Reviewed Sept. 9, 2019

Updated on 06/04/2020: I posted a review here last September of my brand-new Friedrich wall unit. It was very long, and very unfavorable. This is an update: Went to use the A/C for the first time this summer. Temps in the upper 80s today. It doesn't work. Spent 40 minutes on hold with Friedrich trying to get help and was disconnected. Texted the special tech support guy I was connected with by my installer last summer, he hasn't responded. DO. NOT. BUY. THIS. AIR CONDITIONER.

Original Review: Wish I could give zero stars. The apartment I purchased several years ago was equipped with a Friedrich wall unit that was at least 25 years old and incredibly loud. I would often turn if off, even in the dead of summer, because I simply couldn't take the noise — it was literally impossible to put the TV loud enough to hear over it. I finally decided to replace it this summer. I was excited to get a new, higher-tech, quieter AC. The installer, who obviously has a deal with the company, only recommended a Friedrich — essentially an updated version of the unit I had. He said it would be quieter because it was so much newer. Showed me a brochure that touted the brand's "QuietMaster" technology. Lol.

Off the bat, the unit I was sold made an intermittent clicking noise. Install company sent a repairman. Seemed to be fixed, but a few hours later, the clicking noise was back. A few weeks later they replaced the unit altogether — only the new one is even louder and more disruptive than the last. There is a constant ringing/buzzing noise above the whoosh of the fan. Occasionally a flutter in the fan too, just for fun. The ringing burrows so deep into my head that I hear it for a while even after the unit shuts off. I have numerous times turned the whole thing off before it reaches the designated set-point temperature because I can't handle the sound. I have even had visitors to my apartment request that I turn it off because of the noise.

Some days I just leave it off entirely, despite the fact that it's summer in NY and we've had temperatures above 85 for weeks. As with the much older model, it is almost impossible to put the television loud enough to hear it clearly over the clatter. The other night I was approaching my building on foot from down the block and heard what I thought was the sound of a very loud generator. I suspected it was on the roof of a neighboring building. As I got closer to home I realized the sound I was hearing was my own AC echoing down the street. As others have pointed out, it sounds like a jet is idling in the wall. Or a refrigeration truck.

Beyond the noise, this hulking, hideous (despite its supposedly sleeker design) machine has plenty of problems: a remote that works only if you point it not at the unit in general, because that would make too much sense, but directly at the small, upward-facing, top-left display panel. It is a wall unit that sits eight feet off the floor. I'm lucky that I have a lofted bedroom, so at least I can walk up a flight of stairs to point the remote down toward the display panel so it will work. Of course that completely defeats the purported convenience of, y'know, a remote. I heard from the install team that they get lots of complaints from people who simply can't use the remote at all because of how their room is configured. If I couldn't use it I would need to keep a full-sized ladder next to my air conditioner in case I needed to make adjustments manually via the display panel. Cool.

The manual is nonsensical and full of mistakes; initial set-up on unit one took about three hours of my life. Even my boyfriend, who is adept at these types of things, pitched in and found the manual infuriating. Also, the tech features the company touts are a joke. The app is not compatible with iPhones; you'd think someone selling you this very costly device would mention that, but instead they just wax on about how great it is that you will be able to use an app to control your machine from anywhere. Except...you won't. (Congratulations, though, Droid users.)

Setting up the Wifi at all was so complicated the installer ultimately connected me with another AC guy at a different company who specializes in helping people with the Friedrich app. (Side note: There are two Friedrich apps available when you do a search in the app store. One apparently is the "wrong" one. The only way I found out was from this guy telling me after the fact, after I'd downloaded the bad one and had all kinds of trouble. Anyone who doesn't have the benefit of help like I did wouldn't know.) He was the one who confessed that the app is not iPhone-compatible, then said, all easy-breezy, that I can just pull up the website via a browser on my phone. Which defeats the purported convenience of, y'know, an app. (By the way, you have to completely log out and then log back in to the site whenever you want to make an adjustment to the controls.)

Then he talked about how great it is that the site shows a bunch of data readings from my machine that are complete gibberish to a consumer but apparently tell repairmen things they might need to know if they ever have to come fix a problem. Um, OK. I don't care about digits, acronyms, and graphs that makes no sense to me. Consumers want a functional *consumer* product. He also said that Friedrich is making improvements to the app "every day." Note to Friedrich: How about don't beta-test your app on consumers who've paid thousands of dollars for a piece of machinery whose manufacturer brags about its technological advancements? Also, the room temperature readings the site shows based on the device's thermostat always seem WAY off. Like by 5-10 degrees.

This machine cost somewhere in the neighborhood of $1,200. With installation/labor, I paid $2,000. For a hunk of junk that is still so loud and irritating I mostly keep it turned off unless it is really sweltering. I purchased the model that heats, too, since the heat in my building is terrible. But I already know I won't be using it this winter because of the noise. This experience has been miserable. Weeks of back and forth with the installer, and it's still not over. I will never, ever buy Friedrich again and would never recommend it to anyone, and I told the installer as much. And if you work with a dealer/installer who only recommends Friedrich and no other brands, run the other way.

Sadly, I replaced my old Friedrich through-the-wall which ran for twenty years, with a new one, and while it looks great, the digital panel often stops working all together...this a month after installation. The surge protector built into their plug is not tripped, so it appears to be in a poor display circuit. Update on 10/02/2019: Well I'm back. Two A/C's later, 4 louver fronts later. The unit still has an inherent rattle in the front cover. I even tried WD40 spray to no avail. The compressor also still sounded like a small jet engine. When I removed the old front to put on the new one to my shock the whole inside has styrofoam. No wonder why the darn thing is so noisy. I would have never thought a Friedrich would have a styrofoam interior.

I didn't want the hassle of returning this unit again etc, so I bought 3/8" sound deadening foam tape. I covered much of the styrofoam with it and installed the new cover. Well, it's not a perfect fix but it worked. I can now hear my TV and the decibel level I can live with. I paid over 1000.00 for this unit plus many hours waiting for installation. I have probably had at least 4 installers come to my home. Most of the installers said Friedrich new models are not what they used to be, wish I had known. BUYER BEWARE is my opinion. What a nightmare. Note this unit is made in Mexico not in Texas as I thought it was. Then again what is..

Original: The new model KCS14 is the second one I got after sending the first one back. I could very easily send this one back also. Very sad to even report this. The front grill has an inherent rattle which starts to drive you crazy. It rattled on the first unit I returned and rattles on the second one as well. And as the other review it does sound like a small jet engine even after I screwed down the window frame that could possibly amplify any sound. I can live with it but at these prices, why. You have to play with the slide switch on the grill to find a setting where it doesn't rattle, but it doesn't stay like that, so you constantly have to get up and move the slide switch again. Friedrich authorized dealer states you can always get a replacement grill but after having two already I'm snake bit to get another one.

I tried to explain to him that it's difficult to live without heat in NYC winter but he refused to provide me with a replacement unit, "It's not how we do things at Friedrich," or even to give me a time frame. Well, I am boiling from anger so much that I don't really need heat in my bedroom. On a positive side, Amazon issued me the full refund. Thank you, Amazon!

I purchased a Friedrich window unit A/C thinking I was going to get a quality product like they USED to make; instead, I got a piece of junk that lasted barely two years, and I’ve been waiting for nearly THREE MONTHS for a warranty replacement and have gotten nothing but runaround from their corporate office. What I’ve found out from my own experience and talking with their service reps is that Friedrich is a completely different company now and quality/customer satisfaction are the LAST things they are concerned with. I purchased 2 Friedrich dehumidifiers from Allergy Supply. Both still under warranty. They worked well until this year when the one in my basement stopped working. Would not pull humidity out and the pump would not work. This was in June 2018. I called Friedrich who directed me to a local service center who I paid, and they said the unit had low freon and could not be serviced. Funny you can recharge AC in a car but not for a home. I called Friedrich again and they said I needed the tag from the unit and other docs.

So back to the service center, who put the tag on the back of their service order (per Friedrich instructions they said). I collected all other docs and scanned them all before mailing. Friedrich claims they never received my docs and so I emailed the scanned docs which they accepted except for the unit tag. I called them today (09/17/2018) to appeal to them as our basement is now getting mold again. They agreed to replace it with the scanned docs and said it would be 10 to 14 business days for delivery. Really? 3 months of this? Come on!

Looks can be deceiving. This Kuhl model (Friedrich SM24N30A 23,500 BTU through sleeve a/c) is sleek and modern and quiet but primarily that's not why you buy it. Performance is everything and for 3.5 years that's what we got. Then it started to freeze up after 8 hours. After 6 hours. After 4 hours. After 2 hours. We had purchased a 5 year major component warranty. Friedrich told me to talk to them. Friedrich wouldn't even admit it was a problem with their unit. They said my room must be too small. When I told them it was 47x14 with a 12 ft. ceiling their response was, "We can't help you".

The company that I'm now working with has ordered a new compressor but Friedrich can't tell them when it will be shipped. In fact the firm who works with the extended warranty told us that the wrong size compressor had been installed in the unit at the factory and as an authorized Friedrich repair shop they would know the difference. One person at Frieidrich admitted it could happen. Another told them that's impossible. We're at the height of the summer and now we have to rent a loaner until they get the right compressor in. My recommendation: Buy a Friedrich at your own peril.

The new Friedrich through the wall, model EP12G33B was purchased and installed by PC Richards. System has a remote control. Everything worked well... Until the past week. The computer went wacky. Even if you turned off the Air-conditioning the compressor still ran. Crackling noise started to come out of unit. Then it just stopped working. After 2 years? A small fortune went into this unit. Filters changed and always unplugged while away.

Will my house burn down because of this? I'm sure the unit is not in warranty. What happened to Friedrich Corp?? I see many other NJ/NY complaints. Could we have gotten a bad batch? If anyone else has one of these units and have had the same problems, please let me know. I'm so terribly disappointed in the company. I hope when I contact them, they will make good on the unit.

I bought a new wall mount A/C (24000 BTU Friedrich) 2 yrs ago. It worked wonderfully for 1 month then quit. Warranty replaced the computer brain. 1 month later, a wire inside melted. Warranty fixed it again. It worked ok for the rest of that summer. Next summer, it is freezing up solid. The 1year warranty is almost up. Warranty replaced both evaporator AND condenser. 2 months later it is freezing up again.

Friedrich USED to be the best one could buy. Not anymore :( Today, they are the junkiest, most overpriced pieces of junk on the market, making sales only from their past reputation which is quickly becoming a stench. The refineries and chemical plants I work at used to all buy Friedrich exclusively. Now you see Frigidaires and GE's taking their places. This latest generation of junk is turning everyone away. I hate to see a good company go bad. I also hate to see my $1500 wasted like it was. Friedrick USED to be an A/C that was still working and got replaced because it got old and ugly and covered with rust. Now... it is just sad. RIP Friedrich.

Updated 11/3/2017: Just brought my Friedrich home from the dealer after its 4th warranty repair and its 3rd condenser coil installed (because the refrigerant had leaked out, causing it to freeze up into a ball of ice... again). Anyhow, got it installed, turned it on, enjoyed the cool breeze for about 90 minutes... ice ball again. Evaporator frozen solid. Waited weeks for the part, 120 miles driving to deliver and pick up the unit at the dealer... for 90 minutes of cooling. This is getting crazy.

Come to find out after installing this very heavy unit that the front control panel is not working. I called technical assistance and got many names and phone nos. of service dealers, but they either didn't want to work on this unit (too many BTU's??), they were not licensed for my area, or I was too far away for them, some of them were actually very rude and one even hung up on me. In the end after 3 hours on the phone, I had to call P.C. Richards and Son where I purchased the unit, and after they confirmed no one would service it, I'm getting an exchange, but now I have to uninstall this unit and reinstall the replacement, which is not straightforward as you must realize.

I guess I'm going to have to pray that the next unit is OK, or that the unit never needs a repair in the future (unlikely from what I am reading in other reviews), as I have no way apparently to get it serviced... What kind of customer service is this for a high end product like this? At first I was thinking to, with time, replace all my A/C's with Friedrich ones, but I'm definitely having second thoughts on that now. Not even a week after purchasing it, my frustration level is through the roof... An unhappy first time customer of a Friedrich A/C unit, and apparently not the only one.

I purchased a Friedrich "N" model Air conditioner from LivingDirect for $1179.00, weeks ago, because I have to have remote control capability. Right off the bat the model number was not available in the firmware drop down list. The setup was not for a novice but then I'm not. The setup failed halfway through due to the "Kuhl" control unit's inability to communicate with the Internet on my Zyxel CenturyLink Modem, through a special port. Friedrich said it was the Modem or the setup. I'm not a novice with modems or routers either, but I called CenturyLink. Their techs and I troubleshot the Modem and my Local Area Network, at yet more additional expense to me. The modems, and the LAN are all working properly and the port(s) needed are "OPEN." I informed Friedrich's customer service who said the tech support would call me back shortly. Three weeks and a dozen phone calls later, "Not a peep out of Friedrich."

Everything being said and tested, it only leaves the Kuhl plug-in adapter and/or device that are the likely culprits. However Friedrich seems to want to ignore the problem instead of sending me a new adapter and/or device. One of their customer service agents actually suggested I "box up the entire air conditioner and return it." I asked who was going to cover deconstruction costs?" Result now - absolute "SILENCE!" Now I'd like to be clear here. LivingDirect has done everything possible to help resolve the problem and seem to be as upset with Friedrich as I am. I do not hold them culpable in this matter. They have even suggested replacing it with another brand but I cannot afford the deconstruction and reconstruction costs in money and loss of time on the project.

What a mistake!!! I purchased a cp12c10 on 5/26/07. The compressor went within 2 years. It was replaced in the spring of 2009. Once again the compressor blew in the spring of 2012. Once again after much fighting with Friedrich, it was for the fourth time in a span of 7 years replaced on 4/12/14. This replacement unit for the last 5 months has been making a racket like the sound of a jet engine when the compressor kicks in.

Once again I battled with Friedrich consumer affairs over this inferior product. On a unit that is under 2 years old!! What a disgrace & shame that a company that at one time had such a fine reputation has declined so rapidly. I read previous reviews and complaints about Friedrich and see that my utter disgust & dissatisfaction are corroborated.

I researched the source of the problem & here is the root of the problem. Friedrich as so much of corporate America is outsourcing their units to China in order to corner the market for the less expensive units which at one time they did not market. Up until recently their pricier SS units were made in America. Now it's my understanding that even the SS units are now being made in Mexico. The digital thermostats work great and the remotes control all the power saver features. I keep the remote on the night table and if I wake up warm or want to turn it down the remote does the trick.

We bought a new Friedrich wall unit air conditioner. It was fine for the first year, the 2nd year, it stopped working. We called the store where we bought it and was told it was under warranty to call the co. We called the Friedrich (wasn't all that pleasant) and they told us to contact a repair firm in Lakewood NJ. We called, they came, took the unit. This co. never responded to our phone calls. They finally brought it back, turned it on and it worked for the 10 minutes they were there. Next time we turned it on, it didn't work, blew hot air. Called them again and it took forever to get a response from them!!! They finally came and took the unit again, made us wait again before they responded to our calls as to when it would be back.

They finally came and said it was repaired, stood in our living room for 10 minutes while it blew cold air. Great! This was the end of the summer and we never used it again. We turned it on and again it didn't blow cold air, only hot air. I am done with this company's brand of air conditioners. They weren't that nice on the phone and the sub contractors they use were useless and the unit was expensive to boot!!!

I have always known Friedrich to produce the best AC's on the market. But the two units I purchased late last Summer were horrible. The models I bought were: SQ10N10, SS14N10A. First of all, It is a fruitless task to setup the timers on the units. You have to open the front of the unit where the filter is located to access the keypad to set the timers each time you want to change the timer settings. If you always want it to go on or off at the same exact time, this is a one time task. If not, prepare to spend some time doing this.

The wifilink app is horrible and is a separate purchase. Even the technician I spoke with at Friedrich said it was lousy. There is no way to determine if your unit turned on or off until you get home. You either walk into a sauna or you walk into a chilled room. It's hit or miss and no one can explain why this happens. The setup of the wifilink alone is enough to set even the most patient person off. I don't think it could have been made more complicated if they tried. You actually need to two people to be able to complete this task. I have two different units and both have the same issues.

Having not turned these units on all Winter, when I tried to set them up again (May 2015), I spent hours trying to figure this out. Friedrich offers customer service only during business hours so you will need to take a day off work to get help. There is no evening support. If I had known this in the first place, I would have went somewhere else.

I spent $2,200 on these two machines and have begun the process of having them returned and replaced with something that works. I can't believe it has gotten to this point. I am prepared to go to the mat with them if I have to. I will say, the folks I have spoken with in customer service have been pleasant and understanding, but they are not at liberty to provide any additional information that you could get yourself online.

It's important to note that I have a technical background and still found this to be complicated. These are air conditioners. I want cool air. Not trying to launch a missile into space here. I am very disappointed in Friedrich but I will give them a final chance to make it better before I seek some legal assistance. Very frustrating. I could not recommend a Friedrich to anyone at this point.

Friedrich air conditioner 9800-1200 btu's model CP183G30A - The first of these $994 units installed in my 13th floor condo did not work when it was turned on... to the chagrin of the dealer who recommends this unit highly. I had used this company for 25 years with no problem. But on this model the control panel is a bear - when you turn it off you have to re-set it, when you turn it back on, bummer. You have to stand on your head with a magnifying glass to read the control panel, very tiny and at the very bottom. Then the 'door' is in the way. The manual does not explain what the 'Modes' are about... on which one does it drip and not drip? Afraid I'd try and find another brand.

Bought this unit in Aug. 09. In Sept 14, 1 mo after the warranty expired, I woke up and the unit had turned itself off. I tried the reset test feature on the power cord to no avail. Unit simply does not work... no lights, no fan, nothing. My previous Carrier unit worked for 13 years. Considering Friedrich's 'reputation' I feel burned and disappointed.

Bought A/C 7/16/2014. Was delivered 7/26/2014. No instruction manual or remote control unit in box. Store had to contact Friedrich warehouse in San Antonio, twice. And I emailed them after they sent a manual but no remote. Didn't get remote till 8/24. In the meanwhile, unit after a few days, started to leak water from left inside corner. Store sent 2 men 8/13/2014 to drill a hole in back and insert shims to tilt unit. Worked fine until yesterday night 8/31/2014 when it happened again from the front middle. Will go back to store again. They have been quite cooperative; it's Friedrich I'm having doubts about. Maybe they gave me an old unit without remote or manual in box? Either way I'm getting tired of the leaking problem!

Bought a Friedrich AC. from PC Richards & Sons, July 10, 2014. Had a hole cut in wall to install AC on July 17. Very noisy when compressor kicked in, couldn't sleep. Called Friedrich, told to have Pete's Appliance come to fix on July 28. Put some foam in, didn't stop noise. Went to PC Richards Aug. 4, they had Pete's Appliance come again Aug. 8, still noisy, said a supervisor would have to come out, why I'll never know. I will never buy again at PC Richards, and never buy another Friedrich product. Nobody seems to care, mean time it cost me a lot of money and still no AC.

I bought a new unit (SL28M30) and the fan was rattling. I had to work with Friedrich via telephone and get special diagrams of the parts because the parts manual did not even show the part that was missing! A small collar around the fan drive was missing! Brand new $1500 unit! They offered to send a technician, but I'm thinking, "Oh boy, here we go. I have to have a technician come in for a BRAND NEW unit???!!! No way." I made a simple collar and put it on the unit. It worked fine. But I have had to pull this large unit out of the wall a dozen times to adjust this and clean that - what a pain. That was 2010. The unit became unusable in 2013. The last unit we had looked like it was at least 20 years old - that was the one we replaced. Now this unit is a goner in 3 years with limited use! Stay away from Friedrich AC!!!

Unit shut itself off and will not turn itself back on unless I push power button twice. Called the person I purchase the unit from Jarmon Air Conditioner only days after installation. He came out and told me that there was nothing wrong with the unit. I threatened Better Business Bureau and a attorney. He then advised me of a firmware upgrade that this unit needed. When he place the flash drive in it he blew the board then he attempted to change the board which blew the unit. He then ordered and replace the unit with the same model #, said he tested it. You guess it, it has the same problem AAAAHHHH. Called Friedrich. They sent me a flash drive to install. No way will I even try it. Had no idea. I thought I was buying a good unit since it was to be install in the wall. I spent 1,800.00. So sad.

Model P12B (portable A/C unit ) - This A/C unit takes up a big space in the room, much more than I had expected. The compressor seems to go off and on constantly making the unit extremely noisy. I keep the temperature setting on 72 degrees and the room temperature may vary from 3 or 4 degrees warmer or colder than the desired setting. Thank heavens I do not have this A/C in a bedroom. I cannot imagine trying to sleep with it going off and on. I do have the unit in the family room and the TV volume has to be constantly adjusted with the operation of the air conditioner unit. I guess I am stuck with this one, but I would not buy another one or recommend this product to anyone.

Friedrich / Kuhl 5400 btu - Not very impressed with this unit but since I went through the time to mount the wall sleeve, I will stay with it I guess... Already I have a unit that has escaped the firmware mods made to this unit control. My unit fan shuts off continually even though I have it set on continuous fan! Lost some sleep with that thing going on and off all night. They are sending me the USB chip fix... Now when and will it do the trick? Tried my remote and it automatically changes things into auto fan, which I don't want while I sleep! So let's hope the chip fix cures that also?

At around twice to three times the cost of a Home Depot throw away or what I had before this Friedrich.... It's not any quieter than my DAEWOO unit... In fact the Friedrich needs some work on the blower design (foam form) that they use because you can hear air hunting around in the unit for a smooth escape??? Kind of an annoying flutter sound, not as flowing as my DAEWOO unit... Any speed by the way makes this blocked-air-sort-of fluttering noise. Compressor vibe is not dazzling as well... You can still hear the compressor hum even though its brick wall anchored in my case. Disappointing... NOT going to use the WiFi feature as I don't want to push my luck. I just wanted a hearty and quiet unit for sleeping mode... with a fan that doesn't cycle all night!

The ONE good thing that I like is the easy access to the cold coil for cleaning!! The other units give you filter cleaning access, but you can't keep the cold coil clear of build-up crap unless you can easily see it! That's what it did in my DAEWOO. I consistently cleaned the filter, but the cold coil STILL managed to become clogged with micro-dust because it was a major pain to remove the front grill! Okay Friedrich/Kuhl unit... You get some points here for easy cleaning of the coil face. Awaiting my zap chip to make my fan stay on... Let's see how that goes... Would I do this again? NO!

I have had good luck with Friedrich room air conditioners with some of my units lasting up to 12 years. Being a loyal customer, I stuck with this brand when I needed replacements. I had one unit that the compressor burned up while under warranty. Being under warranty was nice, but I was without an A/C for almost two weeks. Friedrich made me pay for shipping costs for the new parts. This unit lasted another four years. Now, when I bought a new Friedrich KM18, I started having problems after only three years. It just would not cool. Now, since the warranty was only for one year, I replaced it with another KM18J30. I noticed that the major components in these last two units are LG brand. Yes, you guessed it. The latest unit is starting to have cooling problems.

Friedrich are just not made the way they were at one time. While the quality is getting worse, the price keeps going up. Of course, there is a second line of Friedrich air conditioners that are made in China. These units are more in line price wise as other brands. I was told even by the store salesman to stay away from them. It is just a shame that the more expensive line of Friedrich units are really LG units when you look inside; both fan motor and compressor are made by LG. I guess that is why the new Friedrichs don't last. After all, they are not even Friedrich, only assembled by them. At one time, quality was important to Friedrich. Unfortunately, this is no longer the case.

I bought a Friedrich air conditioner (first one, the rest of the house has Fridgedaire air conditioners and never had any problems). The air conditioner worked in a 120V 15A outlet shared with a computer. There were no problems for two weeks. In the second week, I heard a pop and the air conditioner died. Friedrich authorized repair came and said it was a controller board, and they didn't know when they could get one. I called PC **, the retailer, and they were good enough to replace the unit. The replacement kept popping the circuit breaker on the same outlet, whenever the compressor kicked in. I had an electrician come in and hook up a dedicated 20 Amp outlet, and the 15 Amp air conditioner kept popping that circuit also. This is the second brand new Friedrich air conditioner that was defective in a row, and now I'm back where I started with Friedrich telling me I've got to miss more days of work while they determine the problem before they will replace the air conditioner.

Last year around June 2009, we brought a Friedrich thru the wall Air Condition. The A/C was working fine last year, but this year, when I used for the first time, white powder like material coming out the vent. And the A/C has problem cooling.

I called Friedrich since it's within warranty period. They agreed, and sent out their nearest service dealer (S&L Appliance) picked up the broken A/C unit. After a week, I called the S&L; they told me evaporator coil (part #621-033-06) was needed to fix my A/C problem. And the part was in backorder, will take up 2-3 weeks. I also called up Friedrich Customer Support, and they confirmed this part is not in stock. And there is nothing they can do in the mean time.

If this A/C unit is within the warranty period, and it is not my fault this unit is broken now. The customer has to suffer without A/C for next couple weeks in 90 degree weather. Not fair to the consumer, and Friedrich should have compensated customer in this case.

I want Friedrich to return my money or replace the unit. $800+ is lost on this air conditioner.
