Our central air started having leakage problem right after the 5-year warranty expired. I have used 3 technicians and none could identify the leakage. Now the compressor died completely at year 8. I have spent over $1k on various diagnostics and Freon refilling. Having called Carrier asking for help since the first time, but could not get any help. Essentially they told us that there was nothing they could do after the warranty expired. Stay away from this brand. I will not buy from Carrier and not recommend it to anyone.

We had a new Carrier 4 ton Heat Pump & Air Handler installed in a 2000 sf one level home in May of 2007 at a cost of $14,700. April 2009, the unit was not working due to a failed control board in the air handler. Part was replaced under warranty, however, the labor and trip charge was $187.00. January 2011 - No Heat Removed and replace failed compressor on system under warranty. Labor to replace their faulty compressor $480.

June-July 2014, removed and replaced failed compressor again in heat pump. Recovered old freon, pulled vacuum, charged to specs. Also removed and replaced starting components on compressor. Total bill $1745.00. February 2015, removed and replaced failed air handler circuit board and heat relays and boards to air handler. No longer under warranty. Total bill $1016.00. I have a note from the service tech, "If heat pump compressor breaks again by May 2016, Carrier will replace with new unit."

They did nothing for a long time but after much persistence they sent the top tech. He and another tech worked for hours. Could not get it to work properly. The unit would shut itself off, I WOULD HAVE TO TURN OFF POWER, to reset and start. Heat pump would come on with gas only selected. Air conditioner always tripping out, SERVICE CALL AFTER SERVICE CALL. Now compressor gone. If any ATTORNEY IS READING THIS CONTACT ALL THESE PEOPLE. CARRIER BUILDS CRAP AND DOES NOT STAND BEHIND IT.

In June 2014 in the middle of the three hottest days of the year (up to 107 degrees), the compressor failed and had to be replaced. This unit (and the whole house for that matter) was only 2 1/2 years old at that time. The compressor was ordered under warranty and it got mis-shipped and took 10 days to arrive and, surprise labor wasn't covered. Got a bill for over $800 for that. Worked fine until just over a year later (June 2015), it quit cooling again right at the beginning of 100 degree heat. Now it is another part, which is now out of warranty and the part and labor is expected to be around $1000. Never, never, buy Carrier again.

I have a Carrier 24ANB624A003 condensing unit matched with a 59TN6080V 17-14 gas furnace and using the communicating thermostat. The contractor that installed it used best practise methods and materials when installing the unit. That included pulling a proper vacuum in the refrigerant pipe and installing a filter dryer before opening the valves on the condensing unit. Carrier's condensing units are pre-charged with enough refrigerant gas for 25' of line set. The contractor has provided me with a ten-year comprehensive warranty conditional on my having them do the annual preventive maintenance.

I have 36 years of experience (now retired) as a commercial heating and air conditioning contractor and I have designed and supervised the installation of thousands of systems and am a member of the American Society of Heating Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers so I can speak with some authority on the subject. Carrier's quality is as good as any other manufacturer. Problems with systems are more often that not poor installations and poorly trained technicians. If your contractor does not provide a ten-year comprehensive parts and labour warranty then choose one that does.

We purchased a large new home 5 years ago with 4 top of the line Carrier Infinity systems installed by a very large AC company with a very good reputation. We were never informed that you must register Carrier products within 90 days to receive the advertised 10 year warranty. I called about a year after install and thought it would be an easy adjustment for them to give us the full warranty but I was told by one agent and then her supervisor that they each always register their own personal products within the required time and I should learn to do the same. I wasn't amused by their advise. They then only were willing to give the minimum 5 year parts only warranty and replaced multiple air handler blower motors, control boards, temp sensors, controls, condenser unit fan motors and more parts without paying any labor.

Fortunately due to having 4 units, when one downstairs unit goes out the cool air from upstairs keeps it very comfortable in our main area of the house, and if you didn't check the thermostat you would never know one was out. Our main area unit has been out for the last 6 months. On three separate service trips to repair the unit, it would go back out between a few hours to the next day. I was unsure when our 5 year warranty was over and as it turns out we had a tech back 4 days after the expiration, and on this trip another condenser fan motor was bad. Carrier Infinity units use a very high dollar motor, the book installed price without warranty is about $1400. I called Carrier and asked about a goodwill extension on that motor but was informed that as it may have been out while under warranty, it is now a few days past the expiration so it is not covered.

These failures were not due to poor installation as there are 4 units all with different problems and were installed by a company that Carrier actually recommends as a top installer and they were as well as other companies were back to try to do many repairs. This seems to be a common Carrier experience. I read comments from Carrier dealers defending the product trying to deflect criticism on other installers but that's not realistic. I hope my experience helps others decide on a purchase and remember that even if they gave a 10 year warranty, you still pay for the labor to repair unreliable equipment.

I will never again purchase a product from Carrier or any other company who is not proud of their warranties and make it easy to determine the length of their warranty. I purchased an Infinity air conditioner from the Carrier Corporation through Airflow Designs in Orlando FL. The air conditioner was originally installed on May 3, 2007 and cost $7,600 for the unit and a 10 year warranty. On July 5, 2010 the compressor went out and again on May 22, 2015 the compressor went out again. After lots of phone calls and much aggravation I have found that they used Bristol compressors and would be using that same product previously installed when installing this compressor. If that compressor has a high failure rate why do they continue to use them?

However they would install another condenser for $2545 (cost from Airflow cost from Carrier was $1545) made by another company. It took quite a while to get in touch with anyone that actually works for the Carrier Corporation to find out what kind of support they provide for ineffective products. I contacted the corporate offices for Carrier (5/22/2015) and they only meet once a month to discuss this kind of issue and I got a reply 3 weeks (6/15/2015) after the request for help resolving this matter.

So the choices were to go with what is covered under the warranty and has gone out twice in the past 7 years or pay a large sum of money to replace this unit that seems to be problematic. What is the point of having a warranty if you are going to continue to get ineffective products installed? I am also wondering why this company thinks that I would spend that much money with them again instead of going with a company that has a better reputation! Keeping in mind that I have an extended warranty for parts and labor for this air conditioner.

Purchased a new Carrier HVAC for my home in 2007. It was properly installed by licensed technicians. I've had 9 (nine) major service calls requiring replacement of major components in less than 7 years. Thankfully I was covered for many of the services by a Sears master service agreement. That said, I've still had to come out of pocket for several service calls for things not covered by the plan (i.e. Puron refills... 11 lbs 2 days ago ($450)). Similar scenario last year... slightly less. That's just the AC. However, the furnace has made up more than half of those 9 service calls during the period. I've spoken to an attorney who has advised a class action lawsuit. I would certainly be interested in joining such a suit. I have all documented service records to prove the faulty lemon that they manufacture.

I had my Carrier Heat Pump installed when we added on to our home back in 2009. I was told by my HVAC installer that the unit I was buying was energy efficient and came with a 10 year warranty. Today I was told by the installer that my blower motor was out and that it was under warranty. Later I was told that the 10 year warranty I was sold was not valid because I did not register it online within 90 days of the installation. We were never told by the installer that we needed to do this to have the warranty. In fact the page of information that was torn from the book and had the serial numbers on it does not even have any statement regarding the need to register the product within 90 days in order to obtain the 10 year warranty. Not even hidden in the fine print. Carrier instead requires the installer to make sure that the buyer knows that they need to register online.

Both my wife and I work and we are not even sure if either of us were home when this work was completed as we had contractors working at the house. I took this all the way up to a "Senior Person" at Carrier. I was told by them nothing they can do, take it up with the installer. They will not allow you to go back and register your product. If this company is as good as the other installers that have posted say, then I would think that Carrier itself would allow the consumer to register the product retroactively, especially when the homeowner was not aware of the requirement.

I'm not even saying they should pay for the immediate service, my installer will take care of that because that falls on him, but to screw the homeowner out of the rest of the warranty shows a definite lack of support for their products. What happens now if my installer goes out of business or sells his business to someone else? I agree with the others on this blog who have wrote no Carrier ever again. I have an older Trane unit in the upstairs that has not given me one problem. I guarantee when that needs to be replaced, it won't be with a Carrier!

Along with an absolute multitude of others on this site, we have experienced the failure our Carrier compressor. I have reviewed the two service bulletins put out by Carrier regarding their known defective system. The first is 9/17/12 - in which they provide two options. In this bulletin, on the second option, if you chose to purchase the whole new unit with the scroll compressor which they seem to imply is the better choice due to unreliability of the Bristol 2 stage compressor, but which costs the consumer more money for the replacement new unit and the labor. They originally offered a full ten year new warranty on the new unit - which seemed the right thing to do - it's a whole new unit and should receive a whole new warranty.

However, in the 4/1/14 bulletin they retracted this warranty offer! They now want you to buy a whole new unit and pay labor - at a cost of approximately $2,800.00 and still have the same warranty has the consumer had on the original unit which failed. It appears they can't stand behind their product and back it with an appropriate warranty. I am investigating the filing of a class action law suit. Please provide information if you would like to join in being a plaintiff in such a suit.

I purchased a geothermal heating unit model 50YGV049JD2C311 serial number 2813V15349 for my new construction home. I moved in this past December. In February I received my first electric bill and it was for $1004.97. I immediately called an electrician to the house to see if there was an issue as my bills had been around $150 on average. He came out and tested the house to find that the geothermal was pulling about 60 amp of power. He told me this could be normal, not sure. So I called my builder who purchased the unit. Oxner custom construction was the builder. It took him about a week to get out there. Once he tested the unit, he told me that the main circuit board had been faulted since Jan. 1st and I have been running on emergency electric heat since that date. The unit said auxiliary heat but gave no warnings, no flashing lights, not indication what so ever it had failed.

The contractor told me this was the second unit this has happened on that he has used. He was able to get a replacement board, but another month's electric bill came and it was $812.14. So, I have spent nearly $2,000 on electric bills this winter for a product which was supposed to be energy efficient. I never would have bought this unit if I knew I would have $1,000 electric bills. I called carrier customer service twice asking for compensation as their unit failed causing me this burden and it has happened more than once. They told me they could not help me on the phone.

The person speaking with me gave me an email address. I wrote to this address several weeks ago and have received no communication from them. I have contacted the BBB and Carrier wrote back saying their warranty does not cover energy costs associated with their but yet they will tell you how much money you will save. THIS IS A LIE!!!! I have no faith in this unit and want it out of my home.

I am a service technician for the upstate area of SC and have been to school many years for the Infinity series. I really feel bad for all the issues and complaints on here about these systems, but honestly I have the same for all the other brands as well! Yes Carrier did have some issues with the Bristol compressors, BUT found out that most "failed" compressors received back to the factory were OK and were a simple capacitor and start relay issue. Same for the TXVs most were found OK when returned. These are actual dealer notices we were sent.

SO I cannot stress enough about finding a very reputable company who knows the ins and outs of these high end systems. Most failures can be attributed to lack of airflow, improper evacuation of system at start up, failure to use a filter dryer for puron (I find this the most!) the list goes on. I'm not ditzing Trane here (they are good) BUT I have failures for them as well. Everybody uses the same basic parts nowadays thanks to global economy.

MAKE SURE YOUR TECHNICIAN IS NATE certified and has been to many class hours on the system before you even consider having it installed. We do a very thorough check of your ducting and other factors BEFORE we even consider selling you a system! Ducting, returns, supplies, pipes, it all must work as a "WHOLE" or problems will occur. I honestly have had people who swapped one brand for another because it failed too soon, only to see the new one fail again. Save yourself a big headache and do the extra research on the INSTALLER before you buy. I stand by Carrier and some of these odd warranty issues sound like dealer mistakes to me.

10 YEAR parts covered and we do 2 years of it ourself. All the other brands have the same warranty setup (unless noted on THEIR warranty cards). You do pay labor for covered parts BUT that amount is up to your particular company. We do a small flat rate (some of those prices are indeed up there!) SO be VERY careful on who you choose to put the unit in!! Old R22 units were indeed tough but inefficient. BUT a properly installed and running system should last many years. BTW Carrier puts all the important information right on the outside unit label (superheat/subcooling, etc.) so if any tech can't figure out what's wrong with that info right there at his fingertips... get someone else!!!

Little more than 2 years later, we're now suffering through almost $400 labor costs to repair our relatively young Carrier heat pump because the outdoor fan bearings failed and the fan motor must be replaced. When I asked Carrier for credit against these $400 labor costs, Nicole stated she's "bound by the manufacturer's warranty" so she cannot pay for labor on a part that admittedly failed way too soon. Careful of putting too much trust in the Carrier reliability. They're not willing to do what's right for the customer.

My Carrier Infinity Heat Pump was installed just 6.5 years ago. In sub zero temperatures yesterday, the compressor abruptly stopped working, system malfunction appeared on my thermostat and the install contractor came out to see what the problem was and told me one out of three wires in the compressor was shot or shorted making the whole unit inoperable. He had to reconfigure my system to be on only electric mode for the next 2 days at least until he could contact Carrier and see if a new unit was available.

That, in itself, is crazy as the temps are 11 degrees currently and I'm living on electric heat, a thorough drain of money. When I spoke with the contractor, he was going to look up my warranty to make sure the unit was still covered but stated that I would have to pay $800 or more in labor and materials to have the unit replaced. When I asked the contractor what the problem was, intrinsic, extrinsic or a connection, he was unable to tell me. He just said that the compressor was not working.

I am not an idiot. I happen to be a physician and a Calculus teacher. Why shouldn't he be able to troubleshoot? Why is the compressor a Pandora's Box of unknowns? We live in the 21st century. Why do we not know what happened to an appliance and the cause of it? For one, Carrier units should be able to handle the occasional subzero Connecticut temperatures. It is billed for install in New England.

Furthermore, the contractor on his emergency visit saw crumbs of insulation on the bottom of the unit which he speculated was from rodent infestation. Why isn't the unit impervious to small warmth seeking rodents? And if my unit was given a great inspection in November by the install contractor, why didn't he take off the casing and possibly see the rodent infestation then and or document the presence or absence of pests? Perhaps a rodent did eat through the wire and this could have been averted in November from the yearly maintenance inspection.

And lastly, why aren't labor and materials covered when we as consumers have already forked over about $9000 for the original installation long before the warranty expires. Car manufacturers stand by their parts with free labor for their warrantied parts. Why not Carrier, a multimillion dollar international company? If I were to have a new unit installed either with a new construction or a renovation, I'd have to give this all a great deal of thought.

I'm not happy. According to their package warranty which I have safeguarded since 2008, they do not cover labor or materials. That is why I would never consider a Carrier unit again. I plan on calling Carrier customer service tomorrow and speak with them or one of their technical field representatives for NW CT. I will relate the above and hopefully get some excellent customer service and satisfaction from them.

I built a new home in 2007/2008. I researched and purchased what I was lead to believe was some of finest equipment in HVAC on the market. Boy was I mislead. It was much more pricey than the standard system I was originally quoted but since I was building the home myself for retirement, I wanted the best. The heat pump I purchased was a Bryant Evolution, two stage, variable speed, model # 286-ANA-048000-CBAA, serial # 2907E28649, a 4 ton/16 seer system. Sounds cool but what a piece of junk. The system was roughed in late October 2007 with final installation/operation in late August 2008 when I finished the home.

First indication of a problem was a compressor failure the end of March 2009. I was told it was a fluke and the compressor was replaced under warranty. My HVAC system does not experience heavy use or extremes as far as heat and cold because I live in western Washington State where the climate is fairly moderate. In the winter, I burn a lot of wood and the summer we rarely use the A/C. That said, it should be fair to expect even a longer life from this higher end equipment. Not So! In January 2015, I experienced another compressor failure and this is where my true frustration begins.

My dealer confirmed that it was in fact another compressor failure and said this had been a much greater problem than Carrier had wished to admit. It was apparently enough of a problem that Carrier was offering a pro-rated replacement program. So my options are: (1) replace the compressor again and take my chances, (2) buy a new replacement Carrier heat pump at a discounted price (approx: $2,000.00) and hope to get a better unit. I have absolutely no problem with the pro-rated idea since I did get some years of service from the original system. The problem is, even though I am technically paying for a new unit, Carrier does not even have enough faith in their own equipment to give me a new warranty. Even if I opt to buy the new replacement unit, they will only recognize the remainder of my original warranty. Is this ridiculous or what?

If they were simply replacing my unit at no cost to me, because the original unit was crap, then I would have no beef at all with this ridiculous policy. But in essence, I am paying for the new unit both with more cash and the expectation that the original higher end system that I paid a premium price for would last far longer than it did. The last "standard grade" heat pump I had on my previous home lasted 18 years. So, what's wrong with this picture. When my dealer gave me these options and explained this warranty, I didn't believe it. So I called Carrier customer service. After talking with a representative and then a senior representative named Diane, I was told the dealer was correct and that was all Carrier was willing to do for me. I explained to Diane that this system had failed previously in 2009 but this made no difference. This was all Carrier was willing to offer even with their higher end systems.

Very sad that even they don't have enough confidence in their equipment to give a person a new warranty on new equipment. Needless to say I will no longer be using or recommend Carrier equipment to anyone, EVER. This policy and the way they stand by their products and treat their customers is simply horrible. DON'T BUY CARRIER !!!!! So now I will be paying another $5,000.00 to buy a Trane and my big investment just 7 years ago is gone.

One last note about some of their higher end products. My neighbor and long-time friend built a home next to me a few months after I built mine. Never guess what my recommendation was to him on HVAC for his house. Yep you got it, same junk. While he did not experience a compressor failure early on like I did, he did experience other smaller issues. However, his system failed (compressor) in the spring of 2014. His system was approximately 1 year newer than mine so his pro-rated cost to replace in April 2014 was approx: $1,500.00 instead of the $2,000.00 I was asked to pay. Ok, so good for him. He got a new replacement system (for a 5-6 year old system) for $1,500.00, AND a NEW Warranty that started from the day his new system arrived.

So I would say this was good business on Carrier's part by essentially continuing his HVAC experience for a pro-rated amount and giving him a new warranty on a new product. Something must have happened between April 2014 and the end of the year (probably more failures), because as I said earlier, Carrier no longer has the faith in their equipment to give a new warranty on new products. In case I forgot to say this, DON'T BUY CARRIER and tell all your family, friends, and co-workers.

Since we have been in the house we have replaced both compressors once and then one unit needed to be replace again within a year of the replacement, at which time they replace the whole unit for "poor design". We have replaced several thermostats and now have a failure of the fan coil motor and control module which will need to be replaced for $1200. Most of the repairs were expensive, costing thousands. Even when Carrier covered the parts, the labor and refrigerant were not covered and needed to be paid. The Carrier customer service is non existent. Being a dedicated Carrier dealer, technician and installer for over 20 years in SE Texas, I am sympathetic to all of the unhappy customers who have written reviews. However, just from reading the situations, I believe that the problem lies not in the equipment but in the so called "installers and service techs". There are literally hundreds if not thousands of "reputable" Carrier dealers in any given state. I have personally went behind some of these "service companies" and have seen the type of installation or service that was performed. To a Factory trained technician, the remedies are often relatively easy and inexpensive to repair.

The fault lies not in Carrier equipment, but in the local distributors who willingly sell Carrier equipment to any Jack leg moron who knows how to operate a thermostat. Carrier should monitor their distributorships more closely and see what companies are buying equipment and how many of these are having issues with "Carrier junk". Carrier is and will remain a world leader in the HVAC industry, but like everything else, the product is only as good as the person installing or servicing it. Look really closely at your contractor before you blame Carrier. There is not one manufacturer out there who is going to cover a bad install under ANY kind of warranty.

It causes leaks, has been down over a total of 30 days, at one time 8 days, just reverently another 4 days. I have contacted Carrier several times. 3 years ago they sent a Rep out because the unit just wouldn't work. Turns out some bozo tech from Linsdstrom put in a part upside down. The latest is they say I have a leak somewhere but they can't find it. They just recently, last month, replaced the compressor for the 3 time and it is possible they forgot to put in enough charge.

Carrier is now sending out another rep but Carrier has made it very clear they will not replace any parts, or give me any compensation towards a new unit or to repair the one I have now, as it is according to the Rep "10 years old". When I explained to him I have had issues with it for 10 years, he says he is aware of that, but they still won't budge. They are only paying for a courtesy inspection of the unit as my warranty expired 9 days ago. The biggest mistake I ever made was buying Carrier. People, don't buy from them. This is my second unit, Carrier, the original when I moved in the house, but as it was a "Builders Special" the life on it was only expected to be 5 years and that's all it lasted. Our air conditioner.. and three of our neighbors (all Carrier units) stopped working last year. All four households opted to get a replacement compressor because that is what failed. Almost one year later the compressor failed AGAIN on our unit. Because the unit was almost 8 years old no warranty applied so, we faced either another new compressor or buying a new unit.

BECAUSE of experience with Carrier, a name we use to trust, was so horrible, and then dealing with our local distributor, Kenrich Mechanical of Warminister, was even more unsatisfactory, we opted to go with a new unit.. using a distributor in our area with whom we felt more comfortable. We replaced the air conditioner unit, and the tech noticed the evaporator coil on our furnace was not the correct one and replaced that.. We feel we were given refurbished and aftermarket parts LAST SUMMER when the original compressor failed. (It was manufactured by Bristol and there was a recall on these particular compressors) During research I also saw there is a class action suit brewing because of the evaporator coils. I know equipment does not last forever but to only get 8 years out of an air-condition system is just not acceptable. I am holding my breath about our furnace. I put this information out there for consumers to be aware of our bad experience and hopefully avoid any future problems for themselves.

We found out the salesman for Carrier told the installer (we have it in writing) you do not have to register the equipment to get the 10-year warranty. We are still trying to get that fixed but they are honoring only a 5-year warranty on this issue. We had the compressor replaced and found out after the fact there are 2 programs: a unit replacement and a $200 labor credit. When we asked Carrier why they did not tell the subcontractor about the 2 options, they apologized but did not offer any other compensation. That program started in April 2014.

Two weeks after the compressor was replaced, the evaporator coil started to leak which is due to constructing them too thin for the pressures of the Freon changes. The replacement coils are constructed differently (dipped in nickel). We have asked 3 different service companies and they all say this is a widespread issue that Carrier refuses to address. We will end up spending close to $2,000 plus our time to repair the top-of-the-line Infinity equipment which is breaking down in the middle of summer. Carrier should offer ALL customers the extended 10 warranty at the original price or pay for these issues in full for the life of the equipment. Why does it take a lawsuit for Carrier to do the right thing fixing defective parts? We have 2 unit so potentially we could have to replace another compressor and coil which now are past the 5-year warranty time period.

Also, problems about refrigerant line leaking where it goes to the outdoor unit. The PSEG service guy tightened that nut but that didn't help. The system stopped operating on July 27th. PSEG will be checking the system on Tuesday, 7/29/14. I am in a quandary as to what to do if the leak problem is not solved. I wish that I didn't buy a Carrier system.

We purchased this house in 2006 and it was one year old. Ever since then we have had Carrier issues. Some I admit are with the really poor installation from Hallmark Heating and Air in Killeen, TX and they have drained us every summer for over $1500 plus my electric bill is over $500 in the summer. I contacted Carrier and they sent a rep down but without the installer cooperating, they just backed away. I don't understand why there is not a class action law suit. Anyone? Now the evaporator coil is out and I can't find anyone to replace it since they did not install it. It is over 100 degrees outside and all we can do it pour coolant $$$ into this thing to keep from boiling.

I have many many AC companies that have looked at this (including the Carrier Rep from North TX) stating they had never seen such a mess in their life. The really reputable company that we hired to replace everything said there is not enough insulation in the upstairs ceiling to get a test load to know what size unit to put in. We call an insulation company and they said there is no way to insulate the ceiling since there is only one entrance at the far end of the house and some of the crawl spaces are 6 to 8 inches and it would be too risky. Now we are stuck with no AC and No one to install a new one. Nightmare over and over.

I mostly live in Grenada in the Caribbean, and bought a 5 year old property in 2004. All the Carrier pre-Inverter air conditioners went on to work efficiently to the next 7 years, although the compressors [outside] rusted. In 2010, our local Carrier dealer convinced me that the new Inverter 12K BTU fan coil unit [220V/IPH/50HZ] would be much more economical to run. I duly bought 3 units which I've been careful to maintain from sea blast to the best of my ability.

Recently, over a period of 10 days, all 3 units stopped producing cool air. I was told that I needed 3 new circuit boards at the cost of over EC $1.900. Needless to say I wasn't pleased. One might be a coincidence, but ALL THREE? While it seemed obvious to me that there must be a fault [such as cheap parts] in all 3 units, I was told that the problem was caused by a voltage spike. Strange, because all the older units on the property continued to work fine, and not one single incident of electrical malfunction or trip had occurred. The dealer came out to discuss the problem, but my reasonable deduction was cast aside in favor of brick wall philosophy. I was told my warranty had expired and that Carrier was the best possible brand! Oh yeah? I have been offered 3 new half price circuit boards at the cost of EC$1,000 with no warranty whatever! Meaning that the same thing could happen down the line. If they are so convinced that Carrier is the greatest thing since sliced bread, why no warranty?! Needless to say, I'm furious. It's the hottest season of the year and nights are miserable without AC. HELP! What to do?

Had a Carrier A/C unit installed in August of 2012. In July of 2014 had to pay $220.00 for labor to replace a $29.00 motor run capacitor part that only took the removing of three screws to fix! Was told by Sears to look on the bright side, the part was covered. Carrier does not seem to understand that the use of cheap parts puts a heavy burden on the backs of its customers when they have to replace those cheap parts. Sure Carrier is not going to worry about a $29.00 part, it probably only cost them 5 bucks!

Sears did not even seem concerned about the part either, after all they got $220 for 30 min. of work. It seems that it works to the benefit of both Carrier and Sears to put cheap parts in the units. Carrier because they are cheap to warranty and Sears because of how profitable it is the replace item. I wonder if they understand how difficult it is to pay for these repairs when you are just getting by. I pray that they will consider this.

Purchased new Carrier Infinity series (Infinity Heat pump, Infinity air handler, Infinity Air purifier, Infinity control Thermostat, UV bulbs) through Sears in 2006. After the Carrier five year warranty expired: 1) Infinity Thermostat LCD failed $700; 2) Air purifier electrostatic element failed $800; 3) Circuit board on heat pump failed $700. Ok, the last one was due to a gecko crawling into the unit in cold weather and short circuiting the board. But then again, why did Carrier make such an open-to-the elements panel on the outside unit for sensitive electronics that would allow critters to crawl in? Don't forget the costs of the air purifier filter element - $100+ yearly ("But you get a year’s service out of it" still 8x more expensive than a regular Filtrete on sale at a big box store) and UV bulbs that Carrier says should be replaced yearly ($150 plus per bulb - 2 required).

But the biggest shock: Last fall I wanted to clean the heat pump unit's outside coil and discovered that the aluminum fins on the Puron (Freon) coils have pretty much oxidized and are deteriorating (crumbling to dust) ON AN 8 YEAR OLD UNIT! Now I read that Carrier makes a "Coastal" heat pump that is more corrosion-resistant from salt air. Wonder why? I am ticked at having paid $10k new system + $2200 to-date in repair costs to Carrier to be an unpaid beta tester for their "new" technology. And the beta tester "gift" just keeps on taking. "To Infinity and beyond" are my estimated future repair costs on this system.

I find it unacceptable as a senior service tech and a consumer. I believe the manufacturers have a responsibility to the consumer to at least deliver some truth as to what is expected from their products and not experience high cost ripoff repairs based on name brand. I do not recommend to my customers any well known brands due to parts availability because the installers/builders/contractors got a good deal on bad equipment or poorly manufactured products.

We replaced an older Rheem gas pack with a Carrier gas pack in Jan. 2003.... It worked well for almost 5 yrs with no problems... In Nov. 2007 the inducer motor was found unrepairable. The part was replaced under warranty but we had to pay the labor of $135. That was our only problem until July 2012... the unit quit cooling. We had it cleaned & it was low on coolant. After adding 1.5lbs of freon it was cooling again. Shortly after that service it started making loud noises when the fan came on but it didn't seem to affect the ability to perform. We had it checked again in Nov. 2012 because of the noise... I was hoping to catch a potential problem before we were left without heat or AC...

I was told it was the inducer motor that had already been replaced in 2007... it is making a noise but is operating properly pulling .31amps so no need to replace at this time. In the spring of the following year (4-2013) the AC wasn't working again... Had to replace some wiring and add another pound of freon. Now, this year in Mar. 2014, the heat quit... We were lucky that it happened to be one of the last really cold nights... This time it seems the problem is a BIG one... Two cracks in the heat exchanger... Of course the warranty ran out on the heat side of the unit a year ago... This repair will be in the neighborhood of $2,000.... I was advised by my service company to replace the entire unit instead of repair... He said with its age (11.5 yrs old) it would be the smartest choice?!?!?!?!?

So, I suppose he is right about replacing instead of repairing... ONLY because of the cost of repair vs. replace.... My point here is am I to expect to need to replace my unit approx. every 12 yrs??? I really thought something as costly as this should last longer... I can't say that we are dissatisfied with the Carrier unit for the most part... but is there a better choice out there??? After reading so many reviews, I'm not sure what way to go.... I'm unsure if I want to give Carrier a 3 star or 4 star rating.... I wish there was an in-between... I really feel somewhere about 3.5 is accurate. Advice/Recommendations Appreciated.

In 2002, I invested $6,000.00 to have Carrier's top-of-the-line heat pump installed at my home. A very large investment for me! I thought it will be well worth it to have the highest quality, 2-stage, rated with energy star and uses Puron. Turns out this unit is quite the lemon. By the looks of all the other complaints I now see concerning the same system, I guess they're nearly all lemons. Wish someone could make Carrier do the right thing and provide what they advertised. And are still advertising. I had this unit installed by a reputable heating and air company. From the beginning it never did work all that well. It did cool however so I did not complain. It only seemed to work about half as good as advertised. On real hot days, it would not keep up with demand and cool that well. If in the 90s outside, the best it would cool was to about 76-78 inside. Cool enough to live so I didn't complain.

In 2006, it stopped cooling altogether, so I called what many believe to be one of the most reputable heating and air company around to troubleshoot it. They said the compressor was bad and needed to be replaced. This was under warranty but I would have to pay the labor. Labor to install the new compressor was $1,200.00. I had a couple other companies also price the labor and all were about the same. It killed me to pay $1,200.00 labor to install a compressor that is under warranty. I considered alternatives such as maybe just install a new unit, but a new unit would cost more than twice that amount installed. I figured this is one of the most reputable heating and air companies around so I told them to go ahead and change the compressor and paid them $1,200.00.

It was cooling my home again but still only cooling about half what it should, same as before. In the winter, the electric back-up strips were on most of the time, even when outside was in the 40s. I put up, told the installer about this and they added Puron a couple of times at quite some expense. They told me I should have had them install the unit originally. Then they would stand behind it better. In summer 2008, there were many days in the 90s and the unit would only cool to about 79-80 inside. I had them check the unit again. They said the unit was leaking Puron from the charging valve and that this had nothing to do with them installing the new compressor in 2006. They gave me a price of $1,300.00 to replace the leaking charging valve.

It was extremely hot outside (upper 90s) during this time, so I paid them the $1,300.00 to replace it. After that, it did cool our house down to mid to upper 70s. Still not cooling so great but good enough. Winter time came and back to having the back-up heating kicking in when outside in the 40s and later even when in the 50s. The next summer, back to not cooling so well but could live, so did not complain. Winter came again and using back up heat. When the next summer came, it was in the 90s outside and could only cool to the 80s inside. I had to have Puron added again buy the same "reputable" company? They would not cut me any break on the cost of the Puron. They said if they were the original installer in 2002 then they would take care of me a little better. After they added Puron this time they said to just call someone else if I had any more trouble with it.

Now here it is summer of 2014 and not cooling at all. I had a different company look at it and they told me they believe the compressor is bad and recommended I call the same company that installed the compressor when it was under warranty. He said he have never worked on one of these "very high efficiency" units. I did call the Carrier Corporation a few times since the original install in 2002 and I was told that there was nothing that Carrier would do to help. We have Carrier's very best unit on the market and we are sweating in our home and just hoping it will be cool at night so we can sleep. Not sure what to do now.

I guess I will have to have another "reputable" company come out and install another unit or something. The new compressor was install in August 2008, not quite 6 years ago. I don't know if it will be under warranty or not. The original compressor had a 10-year warranty. Does that mean this second compressor will have a 10-year warranty? Wish Carrier would do the right thing and provide me with a new unit that worked as advertised. Any suggestions?

The system is terrible and will never be a reliable unit. After 8 months it has self destructed and can never be repaired because it is not designed for repair and is so complicated the service people cannot repair it. Our system shuts done and even the thermostat does not function. Will last maybe a week and the poor wiring and electronics just self destructs. Please do not buy a Carrier product. Terrible product and terrible service. Carrier should be ashamed to sell the Infinity and maybe should just get out of the business with such an inferior product offering. I have spent $17k on this product and I am sick over this mistake on my part.

We purchased a very expensive, we thought top of line Carrier Infinity system, heat pump, and have had nothing but problems. Just tonight, on the coldest DC night in 20 years, the thermostat shut off. This is the third time in 3 weeks this has occurred. To be fair, Carrier customer service has been prompt in follow up and assessing issues, but problems like these really shouldn't happen with frequency like we've experienced. Given other problems with the unit, I'm frustrated, agitated, and now COLD! Help us out, please!

We have been without air for weeks during the summer and, had to buy a window air unit just to sleep at night. Now we have been without heat for 8 days. The company we bought and had our unit installed from has replaced the motherboard and, replaced about 60 fuses. They will not even come out now, said there is a short somewhere in the unit and there is no way to find it. We called Carrier and they told us they don't replace units for any reason. To have the company who sold us the unit fix it. I told them they can't fix it they have been out 15 times. He told me to get someone else to fix it but, that will void the warranty. I purchased a new Carrier Infinity 25HNA unit in the summer of 2006. The purchase included a 10-year warranty. I just recently found out that my compressor locked up. (7.5 years). It has the Bristol compressor in it. My A/C guy mentioned that Carrier had numerous problems with this compressor. Carrier offered to replace the compressor but I would have to pay around $1400 in labor and additional parts to get my unit going again. On top of that, Carrier told me if I went this route there would be no further warranty on the unit. My other option was to pay $2500 for an entire outside unit and they would warranty this new unit for 10 years. I am very disappointed in Carrier. I have owned several other brands and never had a compressor go out. I own several rental units that the heat pumps have been going for almost 20 years. From the looks of this mess, i do not plan on ever buying a Carrier unit again.

I recently replaced an air conditioning unit that was 15 years old with a Carrier unit. The old unit was efficient and extremely quiet. However, the printed circuit board had to be replaced and I thought that after 15 years it was time for a new unit. This was a big mistake, especially replacing it with a Carrier unit. The new unit vibrates and the vibration transmits to the house. It is very irritating. After many attempts by the installer and a Carrier representative to decrease the vibration, Carrier finally said that this was normal. They did install vibration dampeners and isolated the unit from the duct-work, but it is still noticeable. We live in Arizona where the air conditioning runs frequently. I am very dissatisfied with Carrier's attitude and position in this matter. The installer has been great and has gone out of their way to improve the situation, but the vibration will not go away. Stay away from Carrier.

I purchased a Carrier Infinity dual fuel system in 2005. It certainly has not been maintenance free. As an example, new coil, 21/2 lb Puron, new thermostat ($800.00) including labor. I emailed them about the thermostat, which by the way was the 24th version. As Carrier handled the other consumer complaints, it is out of warranty. I also had to have the entire air purifier replaced (Gapaaxcc1625-A01). I thought that if you have to update a thermostat 24 times, Carrier should work with the consumer. No way. After emailing Carrier about my concern, I got answers from 3 different reps; all said, "Sorry, out of warranty." As I read the other 133 complaints about expensive repairs, I came to the conclusion they work with no one. My next purchase I make I will go online and see what others are experiencing with a product. Had I done that as the others said, it would have been a Trane.

I just opened this website and noted that most of the Carrier reviews were terrible. This is a more advanced system than most HVAC repair companies have knowledge of or experience with. We had a bad experience a couple of summers ago (the a/c was not cooling) and it all came down to the one question I failed to ask the 2 repair companies that were sent to our home by our home warranty company: "Does your company INSTALL Carrier systems?" Well, (after the 2 companies had spent countless hours and replaced the evaporator coil--which did not make the problem go away), that one little question did the trick! The warranty found one company that actually had installed these systems and they came out and after an hour of hooking up the compressor to the tech's computer and consulting with the engineers in Houston, the problem was identified. They replaced the compressor and that was that.

We love it. The comfort it brings to our home and the money it saves with the highest efficiency system... We only wish we would have gotten a zoned system. I would recommend Carrier---but you have to get the right people to be your service technicians, preferably the company that installed it...and just take really good care of the system--do all your check-ups regularly. It is not inexpensive to purchase, so why would you just hire anyone to service it?

And then there was the third summer. After shelling out over $1800 to refill my AC unit, someone told me that I may have a leak. It was a little hard for me to grasp considering the house was not even 3 years old when this all started. Nonetheless, we have a copper plated coil that has multiple holes the size of a straight pin. Because we are not in our warranty period anymore, the cost to replace the evaporator coil with a tin plated coil exceeds $5k for parts and labor. And to top it all off, I called Carrier and they told me that a copper based coil can develop holes due to weather, animals, contractor materials, etc. Really lady! Seriously! Otherwise, the motor would have had to be purchased for the unbelievable price of over $400. When it was checked by the vendor and found to be defective, a claim was submitted for a replacement motor and our service person paid for expedited delivery.

That claim was made on Saturday, September 14th. The motor was to be delivered on Tuesday so that it could be installed that evening. Then it was to be delivered on Wednesday, but no motor. Then it was Thursday and still no motor. And now it is to be Saturday. Let anyone with a Carrier be aware that, while there may be a warranty, don't expect Carrier to be concerned about your comfort. After coming home from work on a hot, sunny, Friday afternoon, I noticed the inside of the house was MUCH hotter than what the thermostat was set for. After going outside and checking the heat pump, I noticed that the copper lines were frozen and the fan wasn't spinning. After calling the installation company, they said they wouldn't be able to be out there until Saturday afternoon (of course!). The repair technician came out Saturday around 3:00 pm and said that it was the motor and that "Carrier knows these are bad motors, but they won't do anything about them until they break. They last roughly 2-2.5 years before they need replaced. I have already replaced at least 40 this year and that's just me.... I have three other partners!". Of course, he said that it wouldn't be able to be taken care of until Monday after he contacted Carrier.

On Monday, he ordered the part and Tuesday around noon, he actually came and fixed it. If anyone knows what the weather is like in September in South Carolina, then you know that there were FOUR VERY UNCOMFORTABLE NIGHTS OF "SLEEP" (you're not getting much sleep when it is hot and humid... all a fan did was circulate the hot air). I wish that I had known about all these problems with Carrier before we built our house 2.5 years ago! I can assure you that from here on out, that for me, "it will be hard to stop a Trane". I have asked two different technicians now, who they thought makes the best unit, and both unquestionably said Trane.

Thanks to Carrier, I am now out $300 because of a known faulty motor (sorry to everyone else who has spent more money because I know that sounds like chump change, but I definitely would like spending that on something else). If any car manufacturer had known issues, they would put out a recall and fix the unit.... Why isn't Carrier doing the same? Unscrupulous is word that comes to mind...

We are being told to pay $349 for replacement of the coolant or we will be taken to small claims court. We agree to pay the service call charge.... but feel it is unfair and unreasonable to be asked to pay for new coolant for a unit when the old one failed. We feel this charge should be absorbed by Carrier especially when it is clear their compressors are flawed.

I am extremely disappointed in how Carrier has acted in this situation. I would never purchase any other product made by them..... mostly because of how they respond to the consumer and also the way they leave their suppliers on the hook... making the suppliers look bad and be forced to try to recoup any of their losses by strong arming the consumer.

There is a leak in the copper coil which I'm told is common. Most startling to me, however, was how corroded the entire evaporator unit appeared. I took a photo and posted here. The prevailing story I hear from the repair folks is that Carrier's technology got way ahead of quality... in an effort to meet the rising efficiency requirements. The parts warranty is helpful, but the labor combined for all three repairs is now at $2000. Oh yeah, and I called Carrier (as a homeowner) to express my dissatisfaction. He filled it and went through the system but last week we had the same problem and shut the system down until the dealer could come back and go through the system. He found formicary (ant nest) corrosion which was detected with his high tech system and performed a test that showed the coil water looking like champagne bubbles. He stated there was no repair for this -- only replacement of the coil ($2,000 and no warranty) or replace the unit $3,500 with a 10 year guarantee. Our system, which is 7 years old, was only covered for 5 years -- which is terrible.

Now Carrier offers a 10 year guarantee on parts, 2 years labor. We've spent a considerable amount on this split system and it should have lasted 12-15 years. We live in Southern California and rarely use the system -- at the most for 3 months out of the year. Now we will be replacing the unit (does not pay to do just the coil). Likely we will be looking to another manufacturer even though Carrier tells us that they can coat the copper tubes. I likely will go with Trane, who has abandoned copper for aluminum. Both A/C and furnace came with a 10-year Carrier parts warranty. Also, I purchased 10-year Carrier labor warranty, which was offered in lieu of Carrier cool cash rebate of $350.00. My invoice clearly shows that there is a 10 years parts and 'Carrier' labor warranty on both units.

On May 31, 2013, our A/C unit stopped working. The dealer who sold and installed the unit is no longer in business. On June 3, 2013 I called Carrier at 1-800carrier, Canadian helpline. Carrier's customer relations responded. She said that the dealer only registered for 10-year parts warranty and there is no labor warranty in their system. She said that she would send a message to Carrier office in Mississauga to look into this further and see what they could do to help me.

On June 3, I received a call from Carrier's technical division in Mississauga, who was extremely rude and simply said, "There is nothing I can do to help you because the dealer did not register the labor warranty." He said that he would talk to his sales management team and get back to me. He was focused more in telling me how their internal system worked rather than paying attention to my problem. He refused to give me his work number or the email address. He said to contact the 1-800 number (USA) and they would call him to contact me.

After three days of several follow-up calls to 1-800-Carrier, the same person calls me back to tell me the same thing that 'there is nothing he can do for me". He concurred that there should be a 10-year Carrier labor warranty on both units as clearly indicated on the invoice. He also agreed that the cost of 10 years warranty was $350.00 (same as the Carrier cool cash rebate, which I never received because it was applied to buy the 10 years labor warranty), but flatly refused to honor the warranty because this warranty is not registered in their system and he could not go back and register this warranty after three years. There's a freon leak in the upstairs unit and freon has had to be added to both units 4 times. It leaked water condensation in the attic, and now I go to turn it on over the weekend and the downstairs unit blows warm air. It won't cool.

It has cost me over $1,300 out of pocket for the things not covered under warranty. Some labor was not covered, some service calls were not covered and, who knew I'd have to pay shipping to get replacement parts shipped to me and then pay shipping to have the faulty parts shipped back to Carrier??? What a ** way to do business. The installer, Love Heating and Air in Monroe, NC is worthless and horrible to deal with and now I'm getting the runaround with Carrier Corp. I'm done with Carrier and wish they would come and rip this crap out of my home. I'll buy the Trane instead or a box fan. At least, the box fan would work.

I bought a new home in Aug. 2008 with a 5-Ton Carrier A/C/ Heat Pump System. Last June, it stopped cooling. Technician came out and added 2 lb. of Freon but said he could not find leak - $249. Heat pump started making weird noises so I had tech from a different A/C repair business come out and he put 3 lb. of Freon in and said the evaporator coil is leaking - $175. The unit is just under 5 yrs old so warranty will pay for evap coil but I have to pay the labor & freon. I am having it done next week and have been quoted $600 to $800 Freon & labor depending on the time it takes. So this is possibly going to cost me $1224 on an A/C system that is less than 5 yrs old. Also, there is no more warranty because my 5 yrs is up in August. I will never buy another Carrier product again. It is junk.

We purchased a Carrier Infinity system from RA Dobson in Fairfax County, VA in 2006. Immediately, the system had many problems and would short out and we would be without air conditioning at the height of a DC hot and humid summer. After a couple of years of this, the problem was fixed by reinstalling the unit by another contractor. Starting last summer, we had problems getting the system to cool down below 78 degrees on a good day. CroppMetcalfe came several times and could not figure out what was wrong so we just let it go.

Today, the first very hot day in DC of 2013, the system is not cooling very well and CroppMetcalfe came out and told us that the compressor is shot and that it's a defect in the system that Carrier knows about. They said that Carrier would be happy to give us half off on a new system since the replacement compressor would cost us almost as much and would fail like the one that's in there already. Yikes! Carrier - wake up! Your product is being recalled and you want me to spend on a new system from you to the tune of $5k?

I'm very disappointed in my experience with this company. I will not be purchasing another Carrier product and will make sure I let others know. I thought we were purchasing a system that would go the duration and bought the best they had at the time for a pretty penny. It's time for this company to stand by its products and make this right.

Module failed on model #FV4BNB006. I called an HVAC company. Carrier said the unit was warrantied for 5 years at the time this was purchased, although now the same exact unit is warrantied for 10 years. Sure enough, without knowing the exact date of install, Carrier claims the unit is out of warranty as of November of 2012. They don't care that the same unit now currently has a warranty of 10 years (new policy as of 2009); that the unit should not have failed 5 years prematurely; and that we, at the time we called, were only 3 months over the 5-year warranty. I spoke with a supervisor Jamie at customer relations. She was curt, only would repeat their policy and could care less about the situation of the same exact unit being warrantied for 10 years now. She didn't even know what the part was nor considered that it should not have failed at least 5 years premature!

Oddly enough, there was another person listening into our conversation (another supervisor, Diane ID #**). She just came on the line without identifying herself and interrupted our conversation to say they would do absolutely nothing nor consider helping. Not only did I find this company absolutely uninterested in doing what is right, you could tell they were trained to do exactly the opposite. The way they operate, having big brother ready to chime in when they can to deny a claim, was downright creepy! Do yourself a favor. Look at all these miserable reviews of this awful company and steer clear of them. I have never written a review of a company before, but if there's one person I can help by reading this, it's worth it. Carrier, you truly are an awful company and should be ashamed!

The leak was detected in the heat exchanger which now must be replaced. Carrier has been no help whatsoever. In 2008, I purchased a major product which was a Carrier Bryant ClimateMaster GT-PX water source heat pump. I thought I purchased the best warranty and well-known product available with the cost of over $7000. After 18 months of operation, this unit started having problems. After a multitude of service calls to the dealer, it was determined that there was a water to freon leak. It was then classified as a catastrophic failure event. This happened during the middle of winter and we had to rely upon the back up heat system, which barely provided enough heat to keep but consumed a huge amount of power.

Carrier required the dealer to cut the water coil unit and sent to Oklahoma to be analyzed. It was apparently determined the copper tubing had developed corrosion by contaminated loop fluid and their opinion was that it was not a manufacturing problem. I requested the coil system be returned so that I could have it analyzed by my own sources. I did not receive any response. I did, however, keep both intake and outtake ends of this coil system. There is no indication of any corrosion.

Through many calls to dealer, distributor, and manufacturer (Carrier), the distributor finally agreed to replace the now destroyed heat pump, if I agreed to remedy the so-called water corrosion problem with a separate enclosed plate to plate loop heat exchanger, which I agreed to due out of desperation at the cost of $2600.

The new water source heat pump provided by the distributor is a Carrier 50 YD model, installed on 04/22/11. Alas, this was not the end of the story. On 01/11/13 (20 months after installation), I had to have a service call to replace the freeze control sensor. One month later, I'm still having problems. Another service call determined there was a freon leak at one of the solder connections which was repaired. I was wrong once again thinking, I had a good warranted Carrier product.

As I understand it Carrier would not honor any of the repair costs which the dealer said he would absorb. Needless to say, I'm stuck with this product. I really have no problems with the dealer or the distributor. It appears to me they took the brunt of the cost on this matter, which I feel should have been provided by the manufacturer. As you can see, this has been a long drawn process which the manufacturer has not taken any responsibility. This has created a lot of extra stress on my family and me. Obviously, I am not a happy customer and I feel that Carrier has given me, my dealer, and the distributor a lot of headaches and hassles. This is causing a lot of redundant time-consuming checks and rechecks and no warranty support. I will never recommend or purchase a Carrier product.

We shelled out almost 10 grand for this unit and totally bought into the Carrier spiel, etc. As of this week we are without a working compressor, and running on emergency heat mode which as far as we were informed is quadruple the electrical demand, ergo we are pissing money out the window. The technician (a Bryant dealer/service) who responded to our call had to come over from a town in the neighboring state due to the fact that the Carrier dealer from whom we purchased our unit and relied upon for service/maintenance/filters, etc. moved out of our state without notifying any of his customers that they were going out of business. ** thoughtful of em!

Upon inspection of the unit, the tech informed us that the compressor was a piece of ** and needed to be replaced - after only four years? Come on! What the hell, we're under warranty, right? Then this nice gentleman sat us down and told us "Where the bear ** in the buckwheat" about Carrier Infinity and Bristol compressor pumps and what pieces of crap the pumps are and the lack of concern on the part of Carrier to take any responsibility for duping us, mokes. We bought top of line for energy efficiency and with idea that we wouldn't have to replace it for a long time. It was a sick joke! Our electric bills have been much higher; we just got one that sent me into a rage. My KWH usage per day went from 102 for same period last year (which was too high then) to 165 this year. The control board has never worked right; it had been replaced and still defective. They've told us everything under the sun as to what the problem could be. They never call back and so far, there’s absolutely no resolution.

This is my short review. I'm waiting on someone to call me back yet again today. I will give further details in a future review. The bottom line is that this is an expensive lemon that we've had no luck getting anything done about. Previous to this, we had a York for 27 years (you read the number right) that we bought used; it was never serviced even once until it finally died of old age. We wanted another York but we were told they were no longer a company; we let them talk us into a Carrier. It was a huge mistake.

On our last bi-annual service call (January 24 this year), the outdoor temperature sender unit was determined to be bad and was replaced at no charge. Then three days ago, we received a system malfunction notice on our indoor thermostat so I called our service company and they were slammed, so we set up an appointment for today. The tech came out, spent an hour checking the system and determined the compressor is failing causing the thermal lockout conditions which were recurring on a regular basis (it is a Bristol compressor).

He called their carrier supplier while he was here, went through the problems and trouble codes with them on the phone and then received the okay to replace the unit. There will be no charge to us due to the 10-year service agreement. I told him that I had read about the problems with the Bristol compressors and he said he was aware of the problems as well. He said they had a great supplier to work with and had some problems initially but no longer have them with respect to getting warranty replacements when they properly document the issues involved and the warranty is in effect. Apollo is our contractor here in Kennewick, Washington and they've done a good job and have the right relationships with the manufacturer and vendors to get things done.

The outdoor unit is a 38YDB using a Bristol compressor. The compressor recently failed after 10 years and 6 months. Through our HVAC repair company, we knew that Carrier has had problems with the Bristol compressors (which are no longer used) and our repair company should know since they have been a dealer for almost 30 years.

I contacted Carrier customer service and customer relations personnel by telephone and I made them aware (although they didn't acknowledge) of the company's compressor problems. I asked two questions : 1) would Carrier provide some satisfaction to our situation with regard to how close to the warranty the failure occurred? and 2) if we should choose to purchase a new Carrier unit, would the company provide any type of recompense toward the cost of the new unit? Carrier provided nothing in response to my inquiries. Essentially, "No, we're not going to provide any measure of customer relief or satisfaction" and with the tone of, "nor do we really care if you take your business elsewhere." This I will certainly do!

I purchased a new home in Sept. 2007 with a Carrier HVAC system. I made several complaints to the installation company during the first year about quality of the installation. Three trips and the company assured me they had corrected all items. In just under three years, cooling coils on both units of the two-unit system failed and had to be replaced. Replacement coils were furnished under warranty but the bill was $1500. I hired another company to do an analysis of system. Based on this inspection, I filed a formal complaint with state licensing bureau. Finally, about $4,000 worth of corrective action was performed at no charge. Corrections included the installation of an additional return air ducting that was not installed but was on original design.

Well, now 3 years and 5 months later, the cooling coil on one unit has again failed leaking out all Puron over a weekend. Carrier will not provide replacement coil under warranty. Work is being completed today and I'd guess the bill will be around $1500. So HVAC repairs of $3000+ in 6 years on new home has to be considered unacceptable quality.

I purchased a whole house Carrier Puron AC and gas heating unit in August of '08. Fortunately at the time, I purchased a factory warranty for parts, ten years and labor, five years. This August, the unit started running constantly and I called a factory authorized AC dealer to fix it. They found the evaporator unit had leaked and replaced it and recharged the unit. All was covered, even the freon. The service was excellent. However the need for the replacement of the evaporator was disturbing. The old unit had copper covered coils and they replaced it with tin covered coils. According to the service techs, Carrier has had lots of problems with the copper covered coils and they are kept busy replacing them with tin coated ones. The newer models have tin covered coils. The reason is the freon is kept at a higher pressure in these new models and the coils could not handle it.

Many consumers were not as fortunate as me and were out of pocket for $350 to $400 in labor. Someone needs to file a class action lawsuit for these models to ensure extended warranty for all these units so the consumers are protected from a poorly designed product. I cannot say enough about the repair techs. Only a poor rating goes to Carrier for their treatment of consumers.

Hey Jerry in San Antonio! I have the same problem you speak of and I'm also extremely angry! I tried to figure out a way to email you directly or respond directly, but I can't figure out how to respond directly so I hope you get this message.

I live in nice and hot Phoenix, Arizona! On about May 30th, my air conditioner started showing signs of problems. To add to my problems, I had been pretty sick with a nasty virus that lasted for several months and the temperatures in Phoenix were extreme even for Phoenix. May 31st was 109, June 1st was 111 and June 2nd was 107. Thankfully I was able to get out of town for the weekend to not mess with these indoor temperatures. But even then it really didn't matter much because the soonest I could get a technician out to fix my unit, it wasn't until late in the week the following week.

This technician told me that he was able to find a leak, but wouldn't know where. He put a leak detection in, topped my system off with refrigerant and then gave me a bill for $332.56. The A/C began to work again, but the leak was worse than we initially thought. About a week later, my A/C was back to where it was and this technician found a leak in the coil. Again, let me remind you all these problems were going on while I was also driving around town with doctor appointments and feeling sicker than I have have felt in my life and I'm still not 100% better.

I asked the tech how much it would be to fix the coil. I told him that in between visits, I was able to determine that my coil was under warranty but understood they didn't pay for labor. He gave me an estimate of around $2,600 and then brought it down to around $2,100, because I had a previous relationship with them for tune-ups and preventative maintenance. Even this price seemed really steep, so I told the guy I would shop around and he completely understood. Later that night, this tech called me back and told me that whether I went with him or not, the local supplier in Phoenix that provides carrier warranty parts disagreed about my warranty status. I told the tech that I spoke directly with Carrier and they told me "my coil is still under warranty." He then said, "Well they disagreed" and I was like I'll just deal with that later.

That night I sent a tweet out and found some really good A/C companies who gave me a rough quote. The one I ended up going with was an excellent company. He said that the cost of doing a warranty replacement on a coil all depends on the original installation so he'd have to come out and look at my unit. So fast forward to week three of since this ordeal began and the guy comes out on a Wednesday afternoon to take a look at my coil. The tech told me that the repairs should be easy, but once again, he was still having issues with the local supplier wanting to give out the part because again, they disagreed with my unit being under warranty.

I explained to him that it clearly states on Carrier's website that the warranty is 5 years from installation or with new homes, it's 5 days from the closing date of the original owner. Well you can imagine that many houses like mine in Phoenix were built than say for about a year or two. We moved in 10/08, which would mean that the warranty is good through 10/13. The parts dealer again disagreed with me and even my tech went the extra mile with me trying to get this figured out. By this time I was horrified. It had been weeks since the original problem, my symptoms were getting worse and it was 105 to 110+ every day and yet nothing resolved my A/C! In fact I was so sick, I asked my father-in-law from Missouri to fly out to Phoenix just to help me because I couldn't think straight and I needed rest.

Later that night the tech called and explained to me he went all the way to the top to get my part approved. He said he'd be coming out in the morning around 9:30. At 9:30 on the dot, my doorbell rang. He explained to me that he would take the coil out take it to the parts dealer because they need the old (which is understandable) and would be right back with my new one. At 10:30, he had the part out and told me he'd be back. Several hours passed and by 3:30, I called the tech if there was any problem. He told me once again that the parts dealer was being stupid, but he finally got a part. But this part wasn't a dollar for dollar replacement. It was a different coil that would require him to "rig" it to fit.

On this day, the temp was above average for Phoenix at 109 degrees. The poor tech worked from about 4:00PM till about 11:00PM at night trying to at least get me cool air. He was able to do it, but he still wasn't finished. He came back two days later on a Saturday and worked 4 more hours in the blazing attic and got it fixed. Needless to say, I've never seen some individual work so hard for me. When I got the bill, I was shocked. It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected. Now at first many people would argue that I was ripped off, but in all actuality I wasn't. I mentally figured out the hours the guy worked and realized that he undercharged me. He actually undercharged me by quite a lot.

I then asked the tech why the difference in estimate and he told me the main reason it took him so long was the fact that I didn't get a dollar for dollar replacement. They said my coil was discontinued and the larger part he had to rig in would have to due. If you remember, it took him barely an hour to get the part out, but nearly 10+ hours to put it in and rig it to make it work. Now I know this guy worked hard, but making something work seems to be a temporary fix. This part wasn't designed to be in the air conditioner, let alone I would have been better off probably just buying a brand new unit than doing a warranty replacement.

Anyways, I know this is a long story, but Carrier was absolutely awful when it came to handling my replacement. They were of no help when I explained to them that their parts dealer was giving me hassle. I further explained to them that I live in one of the hottest cities in the world and I was very sick, hoping that would spark some sympathy to help this get resolved faster but yet again, that didn't work. Nearly $2,000 later, I finally got my replacement (under warranty coil) replaced! Thanks Carrier, your customer service sucks! It was for just over $1,500 instead of around the $900 I had originally expected.

This is the brief summary of the problems I had with my Carrier Infinity, which was installed on 3/4/288: In February 2011, control board fuse was replaced at labor cost of $79 due to no heat. In April 2011, control board and high pressure switch in unit were replaced (after numerous visits and system fails) at labor cost of $100. In October 2011, I replaced fan on motor at labor cost of $135 due to no heat again. In August 2012, I replaced capacitor in outdoor unit at labor cost of $166.63 due to no A/C. After which, the system ran for 12 hours straight without cycling off to bring the temperature down 10 degrees. (Carrier's response is that this is normal and the diagnostics reported by the technician are all in line.)

We have one year left on the five-year warranty and as each year passes, the repairs get more serious and expensive. Our previous Trane system operated for 20 years without needing any major repair. This Carrier system had lots of little undocumented glitches the first year of install and started with the major failings two years in and it's been a continuous party ever since. It is never a simple fix either. The service tech has to contact Carrier and come back once or twice to resolve the issue. In the case of no heat, we run on emergency heat while this happens (and my electric bills hit $500).

I have contacted Carrier about the recent repair and the history of major failures. Other than to request the documentation listed above, they have chosen to ignore me. They have talked to the installer, who is no longer on their list of dealers on their website and advised that either he's supposed to contact me (he has not) or a district manager is going to contact me (he has not), and they quit answering my emails. It's been a week now. I guess they hope I'll just go away. I'm filing complaints with every possible venue (BBB, Attorney General, Consumer Protection). My complaints are not with my service provider. My complaints are with Carrier. Someone I work with has the exact same system, installed at the same time as mine by the same technician and has no problems at all. What does that say?

Carrier does not stand behind the products they manufacture nor do they have the time or desire to deal with the consumers purchasing them. I will never purchase another Carrier system again and I will gladly take as much time as necessary to report my negative experiences with them on every available forum in the hope that I can save someone else from making their own $10,000 mistake.

The owner of the installation company told me that Carrier acknowledges that this is a faulty unit (as evidenced by the multiple other complaints here), but refuses to replace it with anything other than another unit of the very same defective model. And of course, I have to pay all the labor charges again.

Carrier knows this is a bad compressor and should replace it with one that won't keep burning out. I still have five years left on the five star warranty.

I'm the same person who contributed the complaint below. I am obliged to state that in the end, three days later, Carrier authorized the complete replacement of the outdoor unit, which is worth several thousand dollars. However, Carrier is wiping their hands of it from this point forward. In other words, no warranty. I will also have to pay the labor and supply cost of over $900 and that is with the labor being significantly discounted by my HVAC company. I am very pleased that Carrier finally authorized this replacement. Hopefully, the new 4-ton Carrier Infinity heat pump will perform as well as the 2-ton Infinity heat pump that conditions the first floor of our house.

We installed a Carrier Infinity 4-ton heat pump model 25HNA648A30020 in a new custom built home in 2007, opting for the top of the line, high efficiency unit, thinking that we would recoup our upgrade expenses in energy savings. Wrong! So far, we have had to replace a compressor, a coil, and a circuit board. All these parts were covered under Carrier warranty, but not the labor. All told, we have spent $3887 in labor and Freon (R410). We would have been better off going with the builder grade unit. Our HVAC system undergoes routine maintenance twice a year, so this is not due to a lack of proper routine service. We have done everything the HVAC company and Carrier recommended.

At one point last year, two Carrier field service reps came to my house to evaluate our duct system, at the request of the owner of our HVAC company. The Carrier field service reps agreed to the recommended duct redesign. I was willing to do anything to correct the problems and make the frequent equipment failures stop. I saved all service records and have over 30 pages of them now. The same unit went out 2 days ago for the second time in the middle summer in hot, humid South Carolina. HVAC company has not been able to run a diagnostic yet because the compressor was too hot. To add insult to injury, we were told the warranty on the Bristol compressor replaced in April of this year would not even last for the balance of warranty on the HVAC unit. That signaled to me that Carrier expects it will fail again within the balance of the heat pump warranty and they don't want to pay for it.

Given numerous similar complaints and universal lack of responsiveness on the part of Carrier customer service, it would seem that a class action suit might be in order. Too bad, Carrier prefers to let it get to that stage rather than faithfully standing behind their products. Doing the right thing might be expensive, but not nearly as expensive as it will be when attorneys get involved.

I asked them to replace it as they promised from the beginning - in addition as to why the customer should accept malfunction from a brand new equipment. Then, they started this repairing trip from day one - very bad, slow response and support from Carrier and their distributor.

I bought a new Carrier Performance model air conditioner in 7/09. 3 years later, supposedly the evaporator coil is possibly leaking refrigerant (410a) as the unit is barely cooling. The estimated cost to replace the coil (coil still under 5-year part warranty) for labor is $993 (includes the cost of 8lbs of Puron) and an additional $150-$400 to do a leak search. I am looking at approximately $1200+ for labor to repair. For a fairly expensive outlay for a piece of equipment and only lasting 3 years, this doesn't sit too well with me. After reading all the following complaints about Carrier and their evap coils, you wonder, where is their engineering on these coils? Possibly thicker copper tubing might help with the increase in operating pressures with Puron?

Where is their quality control? Where is their concern for their customer base? If you keep making an inferior product (or is this planned obsolescence?), maybe Carrier needs to take lessons from Japan on making good products. My previous Payne A/C lasted approximately 35 years with only approximately 3 service calls. Needless to say, I am a very dissatisfied customer with this product. In fact, I am thinking on having this unit "pulled out" and buying another brand and take my loss as I have no confidence that another evap coil replacement will not fail in the future.

Bottom line, there is no such thing as Carrier customer service and no faith in their Infinity system on my part. In the last 3 years and 8 months, the system has had 2 faulty boards which have had to be replaced. The first board in the A/H was replaced on July 21,2011 under warranty. We had to pay for the labor out of pocket. Today, July 8, 2012, not even 12 months later, we have yet another faulty board in the A/H which has to be replaced! This board is not covered under warranty and of course, we will have the added expense of the labor for installation. Two faulty boards have not been the only problem, which we have incurred with this system. We have had several service calls due to problems with the compressor. So far, the technician has been able to repair the compressor. We expect that it will have to be replaced in the near future. Of course, these service calls were yet another expense out of pocket.

We have had nothing but problems with this system since the installation 3 years and 8 months ago. When the first board was replaced in July 2011, we were without air for one week due to the unavailability of the parts. We called the Carrier Corporation to file a complaint. We were treated rudely over the phone. We then sent a letter in writing to the Consumer Relations Dept of Carrier Corp. We never received a response. We are very dissatisfied with the Infinity System! We feel it was only a very short time after installation before the system failed and we were on our own with no help whatsoever from the Carrier Corporation. We will never install another system built by the Carrier Corporation!

I have a Carrier-Payne A/C heat pump that was installed in a new construction in late 2005 or early 2006. I do not know the specific model number. Up until about 2 years ago, the unit ran problem-free. Since that time, I have had nothing but problems. The unit will quit heating/cooling without warning. The outside fan (not sure what it's called) does not come on when the unit comes on and the compressor kicks out to prevent overheating. I can turn the unit off for a few hours and when I turn it back on, it runs fine for hours, days or weeks. It’s totally unpredictable.

A technician will come out tomorrow for at least the 6th time. He has replaced a variety of electronic modules, the outside fan twice and added freon once, even though it was not critically low. He is at a loss on what to do next to try and fix it. Neither he nor I have called Carrier and after reading these posts, it would probably be a waste of time. I am paranoid about this unit and had to have someone 'house sit' while I was on vacation just to keep a check on the A/C. Based on all of the compressor problems I've read about, I'm thinking that is the next thing to go out. I can't think of a compelling reason to replace this Carrier with another one.

When I replaced my aging contractor's grade heating and cooling system a few years back, I chose to go with, what I thought was, a top of the line product, Carrier. It was expensive but I was willing to pay for reliability and efficiency. While the heating unit has performed adequately, the cooling system has been temperamental since it was installed. Just 25 months ago, my compressor needed to be replaced. Carrier, ever so graciously, provided the replacement part for free, but I was stuck with the $550 labor charge. Last week, as the temperature in my hose got into the upper 80s, I discovered that the replacement compressor had failed. The service technician said that this was a well-known and documented issue. I was charged $80 for this information.

Yesterday my faulty Bristol compressor was replaced with a "beefed up" Bristol compressor which I hope can last for more than 2 years. This time, I was stuck with a bill for $450. If this is the reliability and comfort I can expect from an $11,000 system, I shudder to think what it would cost for a system that I could really rely on. I am puzzled why in the auto industry, when there is a known issue, manufacturers recall the affected cars and make the necessary changes. But when Carrier has a known issue, they are not proactive and the consumer gets stuck with the bill after spending several miserable days in a house that feels like an oven.

In a similar vein, how many times will I be stuck paying for the same faulty compressor. I can't imagine that when my first Bristol compressor failed in May 2010 that it hadn't already been identified to Carrier as a widespread problem. Why replace a bad compressor with another bad compressor and expect any different outcome? I see that I am not alone with this problem. Doesn’t Carrier have some responsibility to all of the disappointed homeowners who paid a premium price for a failing product?

I had three Carrier units (top of the line) installed for our new home. Every year since, we have had numerous problems and service calls. Now, it has become unbearable. Last Friday, our air conditioning went out. It is now Tuesday and there has been no resolution or help from Carrier's online or phone center. We replaced the air handling unit ($900) two weeks ago. Now, the compressor is bad in our main unit. We called the company that installed the units and they showed up and found that it was the compressor. When they submitted the information on the warranty, they found that Carrier knows that the units are bad and has a program to replace the compressor with a different brand.

So, the guys filled out all of the paperwork (Bristol Program Audit Form) and run the diagnostic tests to prove to Carrier that it is the compressor. There was a long list of serial numbers and models included in this list (I call a recall list). Upon returning the information to the Columbia, SC representative to get authorization for the part, they are told that since they are now not a certified Carrier service center, that they are unable to do the repairs. So we have had to start the process all over again. The service technician seems baffled since they let him do one less than two weeks ago, with the same faulty product.

Additionally, the service company is not sure that the new $900 air handler with be compatible with the new compressor, if we ever get one. The temperature inside of our home is 84 degrees and it is supposed to reach 100 degrees by Friday. Since I have three of these units, I am concerned about the future of the units and the failure of Carrier to be proactive in replacing the compressors that they know have been faulty. Again, calling the 1-800- CARRIER number just led me to someone telling me that it is my home and my problem to handle and that the problems with the compressors are very limited. However, it must not be very limited to have a written protocol for the diagnosis of the problems and the units affected.

My June 2005 Carrier heat pump (50XZ036, packaged unit, 36KBTU or 3 tons) failed within the 1st year while parts and labor warranty was in effect. The evaporator/inside coil had to be replaced after more than one attempt by the original Carrier installer to simply recharge the leaked Puron (a trademark for R0410A, a type of Freon as for the old R22), and I hope for the best. The unit would quit cooling after several weeks of use. I heard on this site that 2005/6 evaporator failures are from using R22 evaporator coils, which are not designed to withstand Puron operating pressures.

In 2009, when the parts-only warranty was in effect, the 2006 replaced evaporator coil failed, and I paid a second Carrier installer $450+ to replace the evaporator coil. The original installer wanted $900 in labor, of which Puron was ~$400. The 2nd installer had a lower Puron markup of x4 (~$25/#) versus x9 (~$50/#) for the 1st installer. Puron sells for $155 for 25 lbs. The 2nd installer in 2012 charges $35/# for Puron, R-414a.

In 2010, the compressor failed to run for 20 hours; only the inside fan would run, and the failure corrected itself before the 2nd installer came to investigate the failure. The heat pump worked well in the next two years.

In June 2012, I came back from vacation to a warm house (81F). The compressor was running all the time, and 72F air was coming out of the vent instead of ~58F. The evaporator coil leaked Puron, and it ices over. After 3 failed evaporator coils from the same cause of external tubing corrosion caused by the design of cooper tubing contacting aluminum fins, I can say that these non-moving and non-electronic components are a manufacturing defect.

I am seeking that Carrier Corp. turn back the clock to 2006 and repair my evaporator coil for free for both parts and labor with the improved evaporator coil - something they should have done in the first repair in 2006.

There is a Carrier October 2005 literature citing the option of getting a corrosion-resistant evaporator coil. This was never told to me in 2006 or in 2009. Why is there an option to a consumer to buy the $5000 heat pump with the poorly designed evaporator coil or the one with the improved tin version of evaporator coil? No one would buy the inferior product.

The northern Alabama distributor mentioned that since 2010, Carrier will not install the inferior evaporator coils in the SE US. Just yesterday, this same distributor preferred to sell my 2nd installer the inferior evaporator coil while he had the improved tin evaporator coil. I asked him what his markup was in trying to sell these inferior evaporator coils. Oh, that is proprietary. After talking with the 2nd installer of my findings of the improved tin coil and the 2010 Carrier SE US directive, he called the distributor and found that the tin evaporator coil is available and cost less that the inferior one. If I do not get satisfaction from Carrier Corp., I am taking everybody to Small Claims Court.

My residence air conditioner was leaking water under the furnace combination. The air conditioner tech diagnosed the pan leaking after checking for the freon pressure. I said why can I not patch the pan. He showed me how to access the evaporator coil and pan on the gas force air furnace by removing a panel on the rear near the evaporator coil. I have a Carrier AC.

I looked hard for the source of the water as the pan was not leaking when I poured water on the pan, and the water was properly draining. The evaporator coil can slide out of the furnace housing, but one needs a platform to rest the coil to prevent kinking of the lines (very important as freon will leak, if not careful). I finally saw about two inches of dust/dirt at the top of the evaporator coil and surmised that this dirt was preventing the evaporated water from draining properly. After cleaning the evaporator coil, the AC seem to work, but the outside temperature was not hot enough to really test the AC.

Another process was required, get some coil solvent from Home Depot and spray it on the coil. Be sure to get the ones that evaporate by themselves not require rinsing. I sprayed water on the coils after the foam went away just to be sure. Theoretically, the evaporated water will wash the solvent away when the AC is operating. Anyway, for a mechanically inclined person saving $5k to $6K using the above is worth a try! Or, you try talking the tech into looking at the coil itself and doing the cleaning for a few hundred dollars to pay for his time.

This is a follow-up. It appears our local Carrier distributor and servicer will replace our defective Carrier AC coil and install new and updated tin-coated less corrosive coil. We just need to pay labor, shipping, etc., for $500. That seems better than $1200-$1300 for a ten-year old unit that is about half the cost of a new one. The consumer relations department of Carrier in Syracuse offered me a $100 coupon.

I made several calls. Our local Carrier rep was most helpful. He listened and we talked for 45 minutes. I tried to emphasize it is not unreasonable for a loyal customer/consumer to expect more than 10 years from such a major purchase as an AC unit. Carrier is the oldest and largest AC corporation on the planet. If they are not listening to their customers from the corporate level, then consumers will not buy Carrier products.

I still maintain that Carrier initially installed a faulty coil in the unit. Their response is the coil was made to be more efficient. I maintain if there is such a mass failure rate, consumers are not ultimately going to be happy with the product. I direct your attention to the corrosion testing lab website at **. Here, they scientifically test the integrity of the copper coils in AC. The test coil was not ever used in any AC. The test coil segment showed stress corrosion cracking. Why would copper tubing be so faulty? According to the corrosion lab, high purity copper is almost immune to this problem. They suggest ammonia is one main corrosive culprit. We do have ammonia in our cleaning products, compost (flower dirt inside decomposing) and in flooring adhesives—but to this extreme? The lab maintains there is no main chemical species being a "bad actor" in the cracking failures.

One final note: the thickness of the copper tubing tested is .011. This is the thickness of my high E guitar string. Is this thick enough to withstand the stresses inside and out of an AC coil configuration? What are consumers to do? Is there any corporate integrity left in America? When I bought my new Carrier AC system with Puron AC/Heat Pump 7 years ago, I looked at the unit before it was installed and said great the main drain pan is plastic instead of galvanized, so I won't have a problem with corrosion as did my 13 year old builder grade AC unit. The difference is even with the corrosion on my old unit, I never had a drain pan that leaked. Now, the plastic pan has developed a crack in the end of the pan where the water runs to the drain. The water was not going out the drain but instead leaking into the emergency drain pan.

In order to replace the pan, the freon needs to be reclaimed and the evaporator unit needs to be separated from the system and then removed from the main housing. All of the insulation on the floor of the case will be replaced because it is water logged. The new plastic pan will be installed and the evaporator will need to be reinstalled, connected, system recharged and buttoned up. Hopefully, the system will work without any additional problems.

The scroll compressor went out on this unit about 4 years into the unit's life. The compressor was covered under warranty but the $700 labor cost was not.

I do not want to guess at what the leaking pan will cost. Having worked in manufacturing of machinery and seen many changes to improve the ease of servicing a piece of equipment, this is one area which needs attention to a design change.

After hearing some of the horror stories about Carrier, I must say I should feel lucky because living in Florida is a real test on an AC unit and yes I am not happy with having to repair something I feel should not fail as it is basically a non-moving part but so far the unit has provided good cooling/heat.

After the service work is accomplished, I may just post another comment to follow up with the above comments. If Carrier is truly concerned with customer complaints, you will respond to this post.

We purchased a brand new Carrier AC in 2009. In spring of 2011 we started having consistent problems. In a matter of 3 months we spent $505.00 on repairs only to learn the coils had a leak. Lucky for us the coils are under warranty; however, labor costs are $700.00. We decided to wait until the spring before fixing the AC since we just spent $505 on it. A few days ago, I contacted Carrier regarding the consistent problems with our AC. After reading to them the product code on the AC unit, we learned the AC was not a 2009 model but a 2006 model. So, we paid for a 2009 brand new AC that was actually a 2006 model. Carrier suggested the company, Advance, who installed the AC actually put a refurbished or used AC in our home. Carrier will not agree to pay the $700 to have the coils replaced. Advance, has agreed to lower the price to $380; however, they seem to be missing the biggest issue. We paid for a brand new AC that was actually 3 years old. Had we gotten a brand new AC, we would never have spent so much money in the first place keeping it running!

Either circuit boards, leaking coils and now both units cut on and off in the heat mode every minute or so. Labor has not been covered on any issues. I will never buy another Carrier product and will warn every person I know that intends on purchasing a new HVAC system.

Okay, I read a lot of the posts on this site. I have a Carrier and I have no problems. From reading the posts there is one thing that a lot of people overlooked that can be the cause of most of these problems. The duct work, if it is under-sized, broken, leaking can cause all of these problems. It may not be the system at all. Look at the duct work. In my area 90 percent of the duct work is way under-sized.

The smell I heard about from another complaint is my issue. I called the tech who put this in and was told it might be the new coils burning the oils put on by the factory and it should go away. Wrong. It has not gone away and it's now over a month old. It also hums when running. I don't like this system and it's only one month old. I will contact Carrier again to demand some answers. We spent too much money to just live to deal with it. I will let everyone know how they handle this.

I was informed that the major parts of the unit were defected and the unit should be replaced. I contacted Carrier on Dec. 13, they would investigate and advise. After not hearing from Carrier, I recontacted them on Dec. 27 and was told they would contact my service provider who sold me the unit with a decision shortly.

On January 9, I once again contacted carrier and was told they would replace damaged parts but would not reimburse me for the labor which would be approximately $500.00. I advised them that parts were guaranteed for five years and they should be responsible for the replacement of defective parts. I was told this was not their problem. Their customer service division was most unprofessional people I have ever dealt with.

Purchased new Carrier Infinity System for my home in July 2010. The system was great until heating season. When we began using the heat, we started noticing a bad odor. I contacted the dealer who installed the system and they said it was just that the system was new. A few months later, with no change in the odor, I contacted them again and they came out and told me I must have a dead animal in the duct work. Not! The odor was not constant like it would be if it were a dead animal.

Then cooling season rolled around and no problems. The system worked great. Now heating season again and again, the odor was back. Called dealer again and they came out and said they couldn't smell it. Gave it a couple weeks and called dealer again (when it was very cold outside). Finally, the technician admitted noticing the smell, but had no idea what it was. He contacted the regional Carrier representative and was told that it was Dirty Sock Syndrome. He recommended cleaning coils with Listerine and installing a UV light.

Dealer wanted to charge nearly $700 to install a light to get rid of an odor that I shouldn't have in the first place. It didn't exist with my old unit. From what I have read on the Internet, the UV light will likely not solve the problem anyway.

I contacted Carrier and am getting the run-around that it was my environment that was causing the problem. Nothing had changed in my environment. Same environment with old system = no foul odor. Same environment with new system = foul odor. Conclusion was that there was something with the new equipment that was not "getting along" with the same environment thus the only thing that had changed was the equipment.

Carrier, to this point, has refused to help. This was a known issue that these manufacturers were aware of and have been aware of, but refused to warn consumers about or correct the problem. In my mind, we need a Class Action suit filed in defense of the consumers in this country that are being taken for a ride by the HVAC manufacturers.

We wanted air conditioning, and were told that we needed to buy a new furnace unit combination, so we bought a Carrier. It was 14 years ago, and we have had to have repairs done to this thing, every single year. I will never buy another Carrier product as long as I live. The original furnace was 20 years old, and had only been serviced twice in that time. This is a rental, and in our own home, we have a 37 year old furnace that has been serviced once. Neither one of these furnaces were Carriers. Never buy a furnace with a circuit board. They do not last more than a year. It costs more than $200 every time you get it repaired.

My service company followed the repair instructions that suggests replacement of a main PC board and then a motor module. It turns out the main PC board did not need replacement and the motor module was defective - a couple of months outside warranty. Carrier won't accept the unused main PC board back once it was opened. At wholesale cost I was out $900 for the two parts. I would wish that Carrier would accept the PC board back for credit and replace the motor module under warranty. So far I have had no luck going up the chain at Carrier. Luckily, I was able to find that it was just a run capacitor, after shocking the **out of myself, as I am not a certified HVAC guy, but it was back up and running.

Over the next few years, I noticed an extreme amount of rust water coming from the drain line. Now, the A/C is broke again, this time compressor is locked up. I spent $300 to have tech come out and tell me this. He also told me that Carrier has a ten year warranty on parts. Wrong again, I talked to a manager and they said 5 years. In 09, they went to ten after the new and improved coils and compressors. The funny thing is she told me that 5- 10 years is normal life expectancy. Are you kidding me? I'm a flooring contractor and if I told that to my customers, I would never get any business. While it is "rare" that I have had to call for service on the system, the few times I have, (including today) I am charged a "service fee". This is the term used by the dealer so that I am paying for a 'service fee' and they can say that I am not charged for the labor. I think it is misleading to buy parts and labor extended warranty and find the local dealer charges a "service fee/call." Today, it was $112 to come out for less than 30 minutes. Carrier has offered no explanation for these issues on a new unit and only stated that their units have a one year guarantee.

This is poor quality and highly irregular for parts to break down in this manner. AC repairer commented that Carrier has had numerous issues with the blower units. I was the third one this week.
