We bought a brand new house in Jensen Beach Fla. in Aug 2015. We keep the AC at 78 degrees and turn it off in the winter. The blower motor fan died on Thursday night. This is just over 3 years. This should not happen. It cost us $125. for the person to walk through the door then $300. to get it fixed even though it is under warranty! Not excitable! Carrier needs to fix this!

Well it's that time of year again when the old AC unit that is only 5 years old fails. You would think spending 6K on a new name brand ac unit would last a few years at least. Once installed the unit lasted about 13 months and the coil leaked inside the house. A new one was installed and Puron re-added and all good, maybe a one off defect right? 4 years later same thing, now the HVAC guys all say it's the fact they used copper and aluminum coils with high pressure Puron, a known failure waiting to happen. The new coil I have coming this week is all aluminum, and it covered under warranty still! But not the 2K plus cost for dyte, Puron, then replacement and yes more Puron! Calling Carrier is a joke, you get top level support that says I need to send an email to the review board. Buy some cheap Chinese AC unit. It will last longer or at least as long.

When the unit arrived from the factory, the plastic door latch was broken. The HVAC installer retained the broken door latch and indicated they'd try to get a replacement. That never happened. When I called Carrier for a replacement part, they indicated they do not ship parts under warranty and told me to go buy the replacement part locally. If they won't honor their warranty with a little plastic part that cost them fifty cents to make, I don't feel they'll be honoring it for large ticket items.

Our Carrier unit was only two years old and we had to have repair techs check out why it wasn't cooling. They found several leaks on the coils. Repaired them and charged us for replacing all the lost refrigerant. Contacted Carrier and told them if their manufacturing was any good we would not have leaks in just two years and they should be responsible for reimbursing us the several hundred dollars we paid out. Go song and dance saying they were not responsible. So since we live in a large community of over 500 homes I posted a nice warning on our Clubhouse Bulletin board telling residents to call me before purchasing a Carrier. Sooo that few hundred dollars they refused to pay is going to cost them thousands in loss of potential customers.

I purchased my house in 2001 and it came with a Trane unit which started to give me issues in 2009. In 2013 I purchased a Carrier unit that has given me issues since before the first year was up. The first service call was before the labor warranty expired but because the unit needed Freon, I had to pay for that and they were back within 2 months and then charged over $1000 which I strongly disputed but still had to pay more than half. That was just the beginning of what has turned out to be the worst purchase I’ve ever made. My unit is not even 6 years old and I’m about to get a 5th compressor.
I’ve reported the issues to Carrier and got a claim number but they will only speak to the technician who is not very good at paperwork. Today he is going to go exchange the compressor and I’ve asked that he request a someone From carrier come out to inspect the unit. I’ve hired an electrician to check to see if he could see from his perspective what could be the cause. I’ve done more than my share and have been way more than patient, but I’ve put thousands of dollars into Freon and labor cost on a unit that if it was a car, it would be called a lemon.

Replaced a working older Goodman with the 2 Ton Carrier. In the last 4 years the Carrier has shut down at least 3+ times, including again last night, in the dead heat of the Florida summer. Today’s repair most like will be a costly blower fan motor, and will spend another day and night without AC in this heat. But will not be the first time. Have spent $$$ in parts repairs, while my neighbor's 14 year old builder's Goodmans are still running fine. I do not feel that I can go on vacation and leave my home because this Carrier has been so unreliable and could freeze up and overflow. Can only wish that I never chose it.

I purchased a Carrier Infinity series 5 ton, to replace the prior unit that had been there since the home was built in 2006! $10,000, in cash I paid, and the unit is not even a year old yet. I have replaced the inverter board twice, already! Day before yesterday, the house starts to get rather warm, and I run to the thermostat to see a error code 179, outdoor unit communications failure. I call my installer, and they show up, and after 45 minutes, diagnosed another inverter board failure! Spoke to Carrier on the last board, and they told me to contact my installer, basically, don’t call us, after we sold you a piece of junk!
I’m sorry when I think that an American company, that is supposed to produce and sell you superior products, basically takes an undeserved crap on its consumers and fails to honor and stand behind the products they sell! It is of my sound advice to future customers, don’t purchase anything from a company that won’t stand behind their products, and furthermore, if you wish to relocate outside America, good riddance! I live in Florida, and I have to tell you, it’s hot as balls here, and we are experiencing global warming, despite what that pumpkin face in the White House says!

Purchase a new Carrier A/C unit in April 2018. Nightmare started 3 months later. As of today mid Aug 2018 have had service people out 4 times. Every time it’s something different. When I mentioned I was going into office because we want a new unit. The tech told us that Carrier is known for replacing every single piece but the shell before they replace a unit. Unbelievable. It’s 90 degrees in my upstairs. I cannot believe we are going through this with a brand new AC unit. NEVER AGAIN. PLEASE DO NOT BUY CARRIER. Nothing but trouble with this just 6 year old unit installed in 2012. After thousands in replacement parts and service it still is not cooling my home properly. We bought the home with the system in place and did not have it installed ourselves. So very disappointed in Carrier which I thought built a quality product. Have not contacted the factory but in reading many many reviews just from 2018 it appears that they don’t bother to even stand by their product. Bad, bad business! Be aware—don't purchase the Carrier products! Consumers need to act with their pocketbooks so there are not further rip offs and poor quality products.

I was a previous owner of a Carrier Gas Pack HVAC unit when in 2009 we decided to remodel our home. Since the HVAC system was 13 years old we decided to upgrade (??) to the Carrier Infinity Gas Pack. This system has been a nightmare. The 10 year warranty ran out because the registration did not get completed when in 90 days of purchase so that became 5 years. The original purchase of the unit was $6200.00 and since 2009 I have incurred over $4000.00 in parts and labor for circuit board, burners, induction motors and refrigerant. I now am told that I need another circuit board $1100.00 which is not under warranty and the unit is 9 years old. I am sorry that this company has a poor CSI but I will not purchase any more of their equipment. Unfortunately I really like the company that I use to service this piece of junk.

We have already waited for over 1 week (since July 21, 1:00 PM) and are told the part will be here by August 3. The part is covered by Warranty but the labor is not. We are told it will take about 6 hours labor at $88.00/hr and we will have to pay that. Does this sound like a reasonable deal???

Beware that...if you pay good money for a Carrier Extended Warranty...that your contract may say “Carrier Customer Protection Plan” across the top. May show the Carrier logo…and may also show “Carrier Contract Administration Dept. P.O Box 4808, Syracuse, NY 13221 (800) 227-7437. With all that, the Extended Warranty may not be worth the paper it's printed on. It is apparently still a local Dlr that may, or may not choose to enforce it, and provide a part under the warranty. Carrier Corporation, 1800-CARRIER will not be of any help. I have repeatedly tried and provided contract #s and ser. #s. Unfortunately a waste of time and money.

The problem with a Carrier unit is that you cannot buy aftermarket parts. A blower motor will cost $600 from them, but if you could buy an aftermarket blower motor it would be $125. A Carrier circuit board will cost you $550 and an aftermarket for any other A/C unit would cost $50. Another problem is they don't stock anything and you have to order from the factory which take 4 days, because they will not overnight anything. I would buy a Bryant if I was going to do this again, everyone carries their parts and you can have them the same day at a much lower price. Think about going for a week without A/C when it's 115 degrees out, before you buy a Carrier unit. I am going through this right now. It is 8 days later and I still have no A/C.

Built new home in 2012, evaporative coil needs replacing now. The installer never left any owner's manual so I was unaware that the unit needed to be registered to get the 10yr warranty. The HVAC system was installed, new, in March of 2015. It seems unreasonable that the evaporator coil should fail within three years, but it (and my neighbor's) did after about three years. Sure parts are warranted, but the labor was excessive for the repair. I'd look elsewhere for a good unit if you have the opportunity.

I bought my heating and air conditioner on 7/18/16. On 6/24/18, the compressor stopped working and the tech found that the plug and compressor had melted. Although the compressor was covered, my bill was $734. The $4070 Carrier unit did not even work for two years. I think since it was Carrier's fault their unit was at fault that they should have been responsible for the bill since the compressor has a warranty for ten years and didn't even last for two years. They should have at least been responsible for the freon that the unit lost because of their inferior product. I will never buy another Carrier product!

In 2010 we decided to go with a geothermal unit in our new construction home. We purchased a Carrier GT 4 ton unit, which we later found out was a ClimateMaster. After 8 years of various service calls, I can say, with confidence, it's not saved us the money we thought we were going to save even though the parts are still covered under 10 yr warranty. The unit had many parts that were known to have issues and still yet the company installed this unit knowing we were going to have problems down the road.
We went on our beliefs that Carrier was a respected brand in Geothermal units. I still believe geothermal is the way to go but I wouldn't trust Carrier as a provider for any heating or cooling units for your home at this time. When we would call Carrier about warranty repairs they would give us the runaround. Finally, Carrier ask us not to contact them anymore and directed us to work with ClimateMaster. ClimateMaster's field service providers in our area are very expensive for labor cost.

Once we get it going again, it keeps running and won't shut off. The unit is broken again. Needless to say we are at our wit's end. Yippie, Carrier decided to keep manufacturing in the US. THEY SUCK! When the President moved to save Carrier jobs, I initially was pleased, as Carrier was the HVAC that came with our home. That system worked fine for 22-plus years and was not new when we moved in. Last year we finally had to replace it and went with Carrier based on past performance. What a HUGE MISTAKE! It's had one heating repair and now we are in the process of a second cooling repair and it's brand new. Since the install, our energy bills consistently have been higher than most of our neighbors. When the heat kicks on, it sounds as if a dragon lives in our basement, making the former home office down there unusable. Apparently the old systems had some sort of inner shield that reduced such noise. Why would Carrier have removed this?? The tech says the culprit for our cooling woes is an expansion valve which tends to stick. Apparently many consumers have this problem with the new Carrier units.
The lines were flushed a few weeks ago to try and correct this valve issue. Here it is, just a few weeks later, and the SAME PROBLEM occurs. While waiting for the repair tech, we've suffered in a hot house and have water from frozen and leaking pipes damaging the newly-painted basement floor. Carrier apparently does not like to send replacement parts until the techs jump through many hoops. I thought I'd researched brands, but I guess I was basing my decision on Carrier's old reputation. Now we are stuck with an expensive new system that is faulty. It does not cool or heat our home as well as the old Carrier system, and now I'm told by several techs that we "should have gone with a Goodman." This is unacceptable. Carrier needs to fix its issues and replace those defective parts at no cost to the consumer and stop using delay tactics to get parts that work to the techs in a timely manner. Better yet -- build the system correctly the first time!

Carrier A/C warranties are a fraud. When I bought my house from the seller that had the unit installed I was represented that the unit was covered under a 10 year parts and labour warranty. When the unit recently broke down the service company told me that my warranty had expired, even though it was still within the 10 year install period. When I questioned them how this could be so, I was told that the Carrier warranty expires early when an ownership change. When I called Carrier and questioned the representative, he took note, but refused to answer any questions, insisting that the unit was out of warranty. When I asked to speak to his supervisor, he essentially send me to the undesired customer sinkhole. Clearly, Carrier cares zippo for customer care, or rather they care zippo for customers. DONT PURCHASE ANY PRODUCTS FROM THIS COMPANY!!!

I bought my home brand new in 12/10. I also have the extended 10 year warranty. In the time that I have lived here I've had AC techs out on 9 different occasions. Replaced blower motor, thermostat & evaporator coils on both units. Due to this we have them serviced quarterly, which has not made much difference. I keep the filters changed, system cleaned. It's just one thing after the other. While the parts are covered by the warranty the labor is not. To date I have spent an estimated $3k on repairs/replacements for a unit installed in a brand new home December 2010. This is beyond ridiculous. Prior to this I owned a condo that was well over 20 years old, original unit, rarely had an issue that wasn't general maintenance or Freon related. These units are garbage! This time I showed them the receipt that it was just put in. It was a TXV valve that has prob been broke since they put it in. It has a 10 year warranty on parts but the company still wants to charge 65 dollars on the part as warranty and 35 dollars to ship it to the local dealer on top of what the repair is. After several visits by several technicians they replaced a low pressure switch and a coil in the inside unit. Last occurred last fall. I turn the unit on the spring and no A/C. Called the company that installed it since it is still under the 5 year labor 10 year parts warranty. It required 2 lbs of Puron. They never checked for a leak but recommended I have a nitrogen test that would cost me $800.00. I asked why I have to pay for a leak test under warranty. When my Trane heat pump finally expired after more than 20 years, I made the mistake of hiring a company, Bryant Heating and Cooling, which installs Carrier units. Within a year, the defrost board went out. After a few more years the compressor broke, Carrier replaced it under warranty, but Bryant wanted $1500 labor (about 2 hours work) to install it, but finally reduced the cost to $750. After installing the compressor, a valve in the heat exchange unit in the garage was found to be defective. A year later, the unit lost pressure, which was traced to a leaking canister next to the compressor (I'm not sure what it's called). The technician convinced Carrier to supply the part, but labor again was going to be $1500, but was reduced to $325. DON'T EVER BUY A CARRIER! Want to risk dying from Carbon Monoxide poisoning? If you do not, then stay away from Carrier. Our Carrier heat exchanger failed and it turns out this is a very common thing FOR CARRIER, so common that there was a class action suit that saw Carrier doubling the warranty from 20-40 years, but unfortunately NOT issuing a recall, putting Carrier customers like me in the worst possible risk: death.
Murphy's Law: the KNOWN DEFECTS of our Carrier unit caused it to die during the coldest week of the year. A professional came out and informed us of the following: The safe max level of CO is 70 PPM. The max that should ever be measured in the exhaust port is 3,000 PPM. Ours was at 11,000 PPM. If that had backed into the central ventilation unit, even our CO detector would not have gotten us or our pets out safely, as exposure to that concentration immediately causes death.
The unit had to be shut down and I had to take time off from work and buy space heaters to keep the pipes and us from freezing. Our electric bill obviously skyrocketed and where the unit has been replaced with a new one, what was Carrier's response? "Yeah, and, what do you want us to do? There's no recall so we're not responsible." Wait. Carrier's known faulty equipment was subject to a class action suit. Carrier's known faulty equipment spewed out fatal amounts of carbon monoxide from which we could have died. Carrier's known faulty equipment has cost me an additional $1,000. And Carrier doesn't care about Carrier's known faulty equipment and its impact to customers? Want to risk dying from Carbon Monoxide poisoning? If you do not, then stay away from Carrier.

Then the inside unit needed to be sent back a few weeks later. 1 Year later in 9-degree weather with no warning from the Infinity app the inside of the unit clogged and now needs replacing again. Carrier is not available on Sundays so if you need any replacement you need 2 days.
I had a perfect functioning electric unit that was replaced for cost and energy reasons, I have thousands in now in back up portable a/c's and heating units since I've lost faith. It's worrisome that the inside of the unit looks like it burned and if the house didn't drop 10 degrees while I was home we may have had more than 1 frozen pipe. Today I am going to try to get Polsinello to quickly get another one order since the service tech stated it's not fixable after charging us 270.00. The install cost 10,000.

I purchased a very expensive filtration system and the filters are always filled with mold and the unit keeps breaking down. CAN WE START A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST CARRIER? When I called Carrier they would not speak to me. The thermostat does not work well and is very complicated and there is no manual. They told me to go online. Really for $6,300 I need to go online. Carrier Corporate validated my warranty: replace and install part or discount on new furnace. Dealer said 3-day minimum wait if part available to ship over weekend. We opted for a new furnace as 5 days without heat was enough. Carrier found a warranty loophole: "You didn't ask our permission first before you took the discount option." Discount denied. We purchased two Carrier Infinity furnaces 6.5 years ago. Serial number 0711A033962 and 5110A03655. Cappy Heating and Air Conditioning installed them. We selected these because we believed they were the best furnaces. About five years into the life of the furnace one controller failed. Cappy replaced those. ($1000+). Now after 6.5 years the primary and secondary heat exchangers need to be replaced on both units! (My cost will be over $1,000.) We replace our air filters every 6 months so it wasn't poor airflow. It was poor workmanship.
I expected Carrier to be a reputable caring company. Nope. They are covering part of the labor on the secondary but not the primary. Really! Where is the logic there? When I spoke to Diane in the Carrier's claims department, she stuck with the policy. Might as well just talk to a robot. Conclusion, Carrier's best furnace is of poor quality & controllers are poor quality. Nobody's perfect, however, I expected they would own up to it. Nope, support is poor quality too. Very disappointing.

I had two Carrier heat pump system installed in my home in southern Georgia 3 1/2 years ago. Since then I have had to have a service person visit 5 times. Today will be the 6th. The first year there was a full coverage so no real problem. After year one it's just parts. Today the service company will be replacing the indoor coil on one of the units. The cost to me will be over $800. In the past they replaced a fan motor, a capacitor, twice, made two service calls to repair a electrical short that occurred in the same place inside each unit, though 3 months apart. Byrd Heating and air did the installation and service and they are great. The rest of this write up is my opinion...
The problem is the Carrier products are junk. And it hurts me to say that because I lived in Syracuse for most of my life. Carrier was headquartered in Syracuse until they were purchased by United Technologies. They were a great company then, and very very proud of their quality. Something like I am experiencing would never happen, and if it did they would have a factory guy at your door to make it right.

When we originally had this HVAC solution installed in our home, we had high hopes and expectations. Unfortunately, in our experience, the system has extreme reliability issues. Original installation: Mid to late Spring of 2013 (retrofitted in home built in 1998). Installer: AB **(Kansas City area). FIRST REPAIR CALL: Initial furnace startup failure in the Fall of 2013 - Swapped out the main circuit card. No cost to us as labor was still covered under AB May warranty.
SECOND REPAIR CALL: Second cooling system startup failure in the Spring of 2014 Performed some airflow adjustments and modified installation of ducting to suck from interior air. Reportedly, the ducting route was too long for use on the intake side We were not charged for any parts or labor as labor warranty was right at the end of coverage period. THIRD REPAIR CALL: Initial furnace startup failure in October of 2017 - Swapped out the motor. Parts covered under warranty, but not locally stocked. This resulted in $$$ for two service calls: Troubleshoot issue. Replace part and test system. This was in addition to several days of burning a gas fireplace with fans.
The good: When the system is working, we have experienced much more even heating and cooling throughout our lofted, multi-level home with about the same or slightly lower energy usage. The 10 year factory parts warranty has saved us thousands of dollars on the replacement of the high tech components. The bad: With 3 failures in 5 tries, I have little confidence in the ability of this system to start up during season changes. Repairs have taken hundreds of dollars out of my pocket and if not for Carrier's 10 year parts warranty, we would be out thousands of dollars. Where's the efficiency in that? I could have kept my old 80% builder grade furnace for the past 4.5 years and still be ahead of the total cost of ownership for this new "high-efficiency" model.
Summary: As of this writing, our experience dictates that we would NOT recommend this unit. The "reliability" of the system is more like a year 1/Version 1.0 product, not year 3 (model was apparently introduced in 2011). Carrier, you have significant work to do before I change my feelings about your product line based upon this experience. In fact, if this unit costs me another repair service call before 2030, I will cut my losses by scrapping the whole thing in favor of a different manufacturer.

Why should we bear the burden for replacement?!? I wrote to Carrier (Bryant) and got a terse response regarding their "limited" warranty. No, not good enough!! I wrote back and let them know my feelings as well as my plan to share my experience with as many other who would listen.
I have read so many accounts of similar experiences with Carrier: they replace the part that failed but do not reimburse the labor (which is often more than the part!). This is NOT acceptable and we need to mobilize to make manufacturers like this more responsive to consumers. Continue to share your stories and write to Bryant. We also need to contact our elected officials to develop legislation that will better protect us. Good luck to all!

I called Carrier and it only has a 5 yr warranty, I was told sorry have a nice day. This is BS to have a unit 5 yrs old lose 2 motors. Not to mention the cost of the Xm evaporator motor is several hundred dollars.
These new motors does not have cost savings the consumer is told they do. If a motor replacement is $400 @ 5yrs then you will never see a return on investment, energy savings. Total junk. I suggest people install a regular 1/2 hp motor with a fan relay at half the installation cost. I've worked on hundreds of Carrier, Trane & York units from 1/2ton window units up to several thousand ton chillers. I've even been to the Carrier training facility is Syracuse NY.
As a Retired licensed stationary engr. we started noticing the lack of repairability in the 90's on all refrigeration and motor control units. Once the energy craze took off cooling units (all motors/controls etc) became electronic nightmares. The consumer is being fleeced as some contractors are charging 1000$ to replace a motor and capacitor, board whatever part they think might be bad because these units can't be properly diagnosed once a internal part goes bad. 5 yrs in and I'm looking at just under a 1000$ in repairs for a 4000$ unit. All energy money savings is lost on repairs. I use to work on units that were 20-30 years old and were still operating with minimal repairs.

I had the unfortunate experience of replacing two furnaces this year. One was a 12-year old Bryant and the other was a 7-year old Carrier. In both cases, the heat exchanger failed prematurely. In both cases, the technicians informed me that this is a known issue to Carrier with furnaces built between 2000 and 2012. In fact, they have been sued for this exact problem. In both cases, the part was under warranty; however, Carrier does not cover the cost of labor. Labor is the most expensive part! They also replace the exchanger with the same exact part that is known to fail! The cost of the labor and the other impacted parts cost half as much as a new furnace. In both cases, the technicians, which I trust, suggested that I not put any more money into the old furnace. The CO levels were through the roof, so they refused to turn the furnace back on due to safety concerns. Of course, the most recent happened during 3-degree weather in Minnesota.
I feel cheated by Carrier for leaving flawed furnaces in the market. I feel cheated by Carrier for only covering the part (heat exchanger) when labor alone for that item is $1300. I feel cheated by Carrier for conveniently only covering standard parts for 5 years when furnaces are expected to last 15 years. I feel cheated by Carrier/UTC because my new furnace had to either be a Bryant or Carrier brand because my house was frozen and I had no time to research other service providers and their offerings. No reason to call customer service with Carrier. They elevated the issue to "Level 2" support, which then told me to email their "Management Review Board". I have two top of the line Carrier Furnaces. Both have been serviced annually. Both crapped out requiring major repairs after 6 years. Both were sold with 10 year parts warranties as they were high-end models. Now however, Carrier refuses to honor the warranty - even for parts. They claim a legal technicality buried in tiny fine print. Customer service was not responsive in any way. Both for reliability reasons and because of their unwillingness to honor their warranty, I would join the chorus of voices suggesting to avoid Carrier.

I replaced 13 year old Trane units that performed flawlessly for two Carrier Inverter units top of the line for top efficiency with the promise of quiet and reliable and an overall install cost of 50K. In year two one unit's outdoor inverter caught fire and was backorder for nearly a month. While they paid for the part I had to pay $1200 of labor not covered and was without AC for a month. Then the second unit failed who was installed a year later with some freeze thermostat malfunction and a bill of 1400. Again labor not covered and a month delay on getting parts. So all the energy savings and huge investment barely pay for the repair bills.
Clearly Carrier does not stand behind its products and I would never buy their units again. Additionally seeing the pictures of how the unit was burned to a crisp was very troubling and when the dealer said it happens sometimes, I lost faith in Carrier. The people who invented air conditioning forgot that customers have choices. Our family will never buy Carrier again.

I purchased a brand new heat pump August of 2014. I live in an area where you don't need to use the heat pump but only a few days a year. In the winter I use a gas fireplace or the gas furnace. September of 2016 my heat pump was making a metal on metal sound so I had a hunch I was having a Freon leak. I called my service technician who confirmed via a nitrogen test that I had a Freon leak. This basically is a new unit since it doesn't get used very often. I called Carrier to see if they would help with labor charges as my brand new unit now is going to cost $1,500 to fix just in labor charges which includes the $507 charge to test for the freon leak plus another $105 to replace freon. They were less than sympathetic and fully stated they do not help with labor charges no matter the circumstance.
I will never use another Carrier product. I will never refer anybody to purchase I carry your product. I had faith in the company that installed it realizing they don't know the products that they get from the company from the distributor. I'm highly just satisfied with Carrier and I think it class action suit needs to be brought against them for POOR products.

Last part replaced was done on 9-22-2016 and it was a fan motor. The parts are covered by warranty but the $375.00 for labor for this most recent repair is not, nor is the $125.00 yearly "check up fee". My Carrier unit installed about two years ago (summer 2014) and still under warranty, has performed poorly for most of the Spring 2016, starting in May and running through the summer. After several “diagnostic services” (paid for by me, out of pocket) - My Carrier-approved contractor/installer Air Professional Associates LLC (APA) informed me that they traced the poor performance to a faulty/leaking condenser in the original Carrier unit... AND Carrier told them that it will only replace the part, but will neither repair the unit to functioning performance nor pay for the labor required for APA to repair it.
The labor expense to install the new condenser is around $800 - between 10-20% of the original price paid for the unit. I have done research online – and have seen what appears to be a regular and consistent record of unhappy consumers with failing Carrier heat pump units. Based on what APA has told me about what Carrier’s policy for warranty coverage will/won't reimburse, this arrangement suggests that Carrier is "outsourcing" its cost of poor quality to customers. For me to pay this amount to enjoy a functioning unit is not acceptable as a customer. This was a major expenditure for my home (approx $5000 installed), within two years of brand-new installation. I’m angry and upset about this.
I've logged in at the website (and received no response from Carrier). I then sent registered letters to Carrier (their response: they tell me that they're not going to make the unit functional). In the market, they appear to be competing on price - counting on getting their units installed without the quality to operate for an acceptable lifetime. As a homeowner - once the unit is installed - you are "stuck". There's an extensive pattern of failing Carrier heat pump units. If you have a choice - I'd recommend that you find another vendor. Carrier won't help you.

On October 24, 2014, I had a new Carrier air conditioner installed. Unfortunately, the product has not performed well and to our expectations. As of May, 2015 the unit was making an unusual loud noise, although the technician was not able to find anything wrong. In August, 2016 the unit was making a loud noise again. This time we also noticed water leaking and that the unit will successively go on and off. The technician determined that the unit's expansion valve was faulty. In August 2016 the repair was completed. While the parts were covered under the warranty, we incurred expenses for the labor in amount of $375.00. In addition to the expense incurred and the hindrance of not having AC in 100 degrees weather, we had to twice take time off from our jobs, once to have the unit inspected and a second time to have the repairs done, which took nearly 5 hours to complete. We were disappointed to say the least and find it unacceptable that a new unit that has been in use for less than 2 years, to have such issues.
To resolve the problem, we contacted Carrier and kindly requested a full reimbursement of the $375.00 cost we incurred. Per our online research, this issue has happened to other Carrier users and we deem this to be a flaw in the manufacturing of the system, and not normal wear and tear. The response back was that, while they are sorry for the inconvenience created by their system, they can't help us as they are not responsible for the labor cost we incurred! After we spent close to $7k on a new unit, I find it unacceptable to have to spend another $400 in the second year on repairs!

Couple months later, the unit wasn't cooling enough. We hired another technician who discovered that the unit was empty from freon due to a leakage of the evaporator coil. Luckily the part is under warranty which will expire in 23 days. Unfortunately the part is on backup order 'till November of this year which is 2.5 month from today. were polite and professional. I had zero issues with the way they treated me but the message was poor. I will try to keep this as short as possible. We purchased a 3.5 year old home last year. The previous owner almost never used the AC. He figured that they ran it maybe 3 weeks total in the 3 years they had the home. We purchased mid summer and ran it sparingly last year. This spring we had to have it charged and again 6 weeks later. Another month later it was out of refrigerant again. They came in with a sniffing tool and found a leak in the evaporator coil. We had $500 into service calls at this point. I was told that it was manufactured on Aug 19th, 2011. I called in Monday August 22nd, 2016 and was basically told that I was out of luck because the warranty ran out on Friday.
The fact was that it was not installed until October 20th, 2011 but no one could produce the original receipt. The original owner, original builder, original HVAC installer and current HVAC company all offered to call in or write up letters detailing the issue but I was told an original receipt was my only option. I would not recommend or ever use Carrier again. The repair cost me $1400 to go along with $500 in service calls and time off work. Poor quality and VERY VERY poor customer service. Purchased 2 Infinity Series A/C units in April 2014 at a total cost of over $25,000. Just 2 days ago, the module and blower motor failed on 1 unit. While Carrier warranties the parts for 10 years, it does not cover labor. It seems inconceivable to us that their warranty for a part, which cannot be replaced by a consumer, does not accommodate the nearly $400 cost of replacing that warrantied part when it fails - particularly within 2 years of a 10 year warranty.
Additionally, the attitude of the Customer Service staff at Carrier was dismissive, at best. A brief read of Consumer Affairs reviews suggests we are not the only customer with this complaint. They (Customer Relations at Corporate Office) stated that registration for the unit was not completed. It only shows the registration for the furnace which extends that warranty from 5 years to 10 but did not show the same for the compressor.
Therefore they would not honor the warranty for the compressor. I told them there must be a mistake since why would only one part of the system be registered and not the complete unit. They refused to do anything to remedy the matter. So I am stuck with a bill of several thousand dollars to repair or replace the system. Also, I had to replace the coils three years ago. Very dissatisfied with the quality of our Carrier 4 ton air conditioner (model 24ABB348A003). The compressor failed after only 3 years and it was not a blow out failure. The technician said it is internal failures most likely due to the quality of the compressor. The warranty of course only cover the park itself, not even the coolant they have to refill after reinstall the compressor. The diagnosis and the replace of the compressor cost about the 1/4 of the original cost and install of the air conditioner. It is ridiculous to have to spend so much on labor to fix a major component on an problem most likely due to the quality of their product.
When speaking to a carrier representative, they do not stand by their product, only referring to the letter of the warranty agreement. Parts also does not include coolant cost. The excuse is that they do not know what exactly cause the compressor failure and they do not look at every compressor that failed, even those that failed in much less typical lifetime of the product. It is very good to know that Carrier does not take quality of their product seriously enough to diagnose major component that prematurely failed. Either that or they have so much failure on their compressor that they just don't care. Either conclusion does not speak well of Carrier as a company.

He agreed to talk to the first company. Days later, no response. The outside HVAC company told me they have tried to contact the agent several times. No response. I contacted customer relations at Payne. I was just informed my conversation is being recorded. This unit is still under warranty and now I have read reviews from this site, I am horrified! I have spent hours on the phone. It has been 90 degrees this week and I can't get anyone to help me.

We have a top of the line Carrier Infinity heat pump put in place in 2014. It was installed by an authorized installer who has been installing Carrier systems for 45 years. The unit is supposed to be state of the art and cost over $10K. But in 2015, one year after it was put in place, the system broke down in the summer and a motor had to be replaced. Now in 2016, second year after the installation, the system broke down again and another motor has to be replaced. And it takes more than 10 days to order the motor in today's world when everything you order from Amazon can arrive in 2 days.
When I called Carrier to file a complaint, the lady I spoke with was supposed to be a senior level rep, and she was even more disappointing. Please note, I wasn't even asking them for anything. My repairs are covered by a service policy I already had. I just wanted to let them know my frustration as a consumer, and I think given the good reputation I have heard about Carrier, you would think how their customers are feeling about their quality and service. Well, this lady blamed everything on distributors and installers, and said Carrier provides 10 year parts warranty and that's all they can do. She basically said "Why are you wasting my time by calling me." without using those words.
Well, for a state of the art system such as Carrier Infinity, you probably wouldn't expect to shut down for 2 weeks every year in the hottest days of the summer. And you would probably expect Carrier to care more about the quality and service experienced by their highest paying customers. I need to replace another old HVAC system soon and I never thought I would get anything other than Carrier. Now I will look into what other competing products are out there.

In 2009, I replaced two old 7 SEER and 9 SEER units with brand new high-efficiency Carrier units. Luckily, I had a friend who sold me and installed two new units for $11K. One local HVAC company asked me $22K and another asked me $15K for the same models. Thank God I didn't have $22K tied up in the mess that I bought. The downstairs unit is saving us right now. I have a box fan propped up blowing cool air upstairs, where my INFINITY SPLIT UNIT has become a piece of crap apparently. The coil was rusty and leaking freon; freezing up. I have huge water spots on my ceiling where water has overflown the drip pan, which suggest to me the float switch isn't any good either. The upstairs thermostat earlier this week registered 86 degrees. The unit was blowing but not cooling. On Saturday morning, my friend sent his brother-in-law to replace the coil in the attic.
The brother-in-law told me that the air coming out of the vents should be upper 40s and at least low 50s. With a meat thermometer, he and I checked the temp for approx 30 minutes and it never dropped below 60 degrees. He said that it would cool on down after it ran for a while. It never has and after it cools for a while the air coming from vents is between 70 and 75 degrees. Today, one day after replacing the coil and with thermostat set at 70 degrees, the temp at mid-day was 79 degrees. I keep asking myself if it's worth $450 to lower the temp by 7 degrees. How would you feel?
Last night and all day today, I have tried probably 25 times to call and text my friend that installed the unit and sent his brother-in-law to do the dirty work and collect money. He has not replied. I don't want to criticize my downstairs unit because, like I said, it is saving us right now. However, we have had to have service calls for it two or three time during winters because it wasn't heating. Ideally, with these Carrier units, we need cold air to rise and warm air to fall and we'd be fine. Doesn't work that way, huh? If you are reading this and you are about to buy a new unit for your home, please take my advice and the advice of many others below and steer clear of Carrier products. I'm far from an HVAC expert, so I can't make a recommendation on which brand to buy. The only thing I can offer is to save yourself some grief and headaches and DO NOT BUY CARRIER!!!

I purchased a Carrier Home Comfort 21 seer rating unit, at the time it was their top of the line unit. Unit was purchased and installed in 2010. In 2013 the unit went out, ended up being bad compressor, which was replaced under warranty, but labor of course is not including so to replace and recharge unit was $900 - this puts me almost $14000 into this unit. Now three years later 2016 unit is not working and can't be diagnosed at this point, I've already paid $130 which replaced the capacitor that was bad, but unit is still not working. I would not recommend Carrier and will never buy their brand again. I have four other units - two were replaced 6 years ago too. They are much less expensive Payne units and have not had one problem.

I had a new heat pump installed yesterday. While the technician was here, we attempted to register the new equipment using the website address in the Carrier literature. A message came up and said it's not a valid website (cac.bdp.com). So I called Carrier, their phone message said to go to Carrier.com/homecomfort to register the product, which I did. While the tech was here, I attempted to register the equipment but the website kept asking for the installer no matter what I entered. The technician recommended that I call Carrier back (he had to go to his next job).
I called Carrier and was told they no longer accept product registrations over the phone. So when I told the woman I could log in to their website to register the product while she was on the phone, she said she wasn't allowed to hold for customers. She seemed pretty rude. The problem here is that the Carrier website won't allow me to register my product (tried three different browsers) and their customer service will not help me register. This comes across as a warranty scam. Make it difficult so that customers don't register the product then deny warranty claims.

We purchased a Carrier air conditioner and furnace through a dealer called Weather King 8 years ago. We thought Carrier was a quality company. The unit seemed to function well for a while. We live in Ohio and only use the air about 6-8 times a year, so we were surprised when the unit kept running and not cooling last fall. We contacted the dealer and paid $79 for a service call. We were told there was a loss of Freon and to schedule a visit in the spring. We did so, and were charged almost $500 more with no repair. We were told the coil was bad and told to contact Carrier.
The Carrier rep was very curt and refused to help. She said that even though we registered the unit, the warranty was good for only 5 years. We have since learned from professionals that the defective Carrier coils are an industry wide problem and that a class action suit may be filed soon. We feel Carrier is deceptive in their practices and would advise readers to STOP BUYING CARRIER.

Got Carrier Infinity Greenspeed in November 2012. Got the 97.2% efficiency infinity modulating natural gas furnace and 4 ton 17 SEER air conditioning unit. I do love the low speed variable heating as it keeps a gentle constant heat. Cooling is also good and efficient. Both units, however, have been unreliable. In October 2014 the furnace broke. We needed a new inducer motor. They don't keep parts at Carrier, so it took several days to get the part. Cost me $400 for labor and other parts. In July 2015 air conditioning unit leaked and had to have coolant replaced.
In May 2016, the unit would not start during routine twice a year maintenance service agreement we had with installer. There were multiple leaks and the entire outside unit and coil had to be replaced. The installer was great and didn't charge for labor since we had repeated problems with the unit. Carrier again did not have parts on hand, so had to wait a week on parts. Still cost me $600 in additional installer parts not covered by Carrier. So, on this supposed high end system, both the furnace and air conditioner have had major failures in under 3 years of use and these have cost me over $1000 out of pocket. Obviously, my conclusion is that Carrier Infinity Greenspeed is a piece of junk.

When I turned it on for this season, it would not cool. The original installer, Cool Now in Tampa, refused to provide maintenance or service and told me I should find someone closer, it was too far for them to travel.
I called a local servicer, Longs A/C in Avon Park and had them come out to see what was wrong. They told me it was a common problem and the coil needed to be replaced. They could cover the part under warranty, but because it was one month beyond the labor warranty, they have to charge me $485 to fix a factory defect. It seems obvious that something new, with only 6 months of service should not require expensive service this soon. I called Carrier direct and they said there was nothing they could do about it. Our 10 year warranty would be in effect (per their terms) upon purchase of the home (not when the unit was installed). Carrier not only cannot readily promote on their website who to contact for residential warranty support, listen to the issue and provide support but now refuses to stand behind either the 10 year (extended warranty) or the 5 year (limited warranty) clearly spelled out on their own documents.

Compressor went out under the ten year time span. Replaced by installer but like everyone else not the freon or labor. If there is a class action lawsuit I'd sure like to join in on it. Anyone involved can contact me at any time. Latest problem is in the zone control board. I am still dealing with this issue at present.

We purchased our new Carrier Infinity system with very high hopes that this would be a system that would be worry free for many years to come without any problems for our home. Especially spending over 10k thinking you get what you pay for. Not even 2 yrs. and the notorious codes 41 & 44 blower motor came up. We have a 10 yr parts warranty only. Quality parts should typically last at least very close to the end of the warranty or past. I am very meticulous of keeping our appliances clean filters changed etc. After spending hundreds of dollars for diagnostic & repair fees to change the blower motor and module it is running again. For how long? Only the good Lord knows. I'm sure before long another component will fail, probably one of the same that have been replaced on this site from others.
As a contractor myself and being on major commercial construction sites for over 25 years I have seen Carrier systems installed and thought they must take care of their customers who purchase their systems and products. After reading reviews of other folks who have experienced the same or similar problems, it would be statistically appropriate to deem this as complete negligent to the consumers to use cheaply made components in their systems causing premature failure resulting in the consumer to pay for labor costs to fix the system. For this to be happening at the rate like this, it can only be two things. Either cheap parts or bad quality control. It logically could not be coincidence.
For Carrier owned by United Technologies Corp. to use cheap components in their systems allow them to manufacture units for less money. Therefore their profit margin for these units override the cost for the repair parts to be replaced. It is not the local hvac contractors fault as they are just there to fix the problem. Understand Carrier does not truly care about the comfort of you or your family (babies, elderly, special needs). They only care about the bottom line. Late founder Willis Carrier would not approve of these practices. As with many major corporations that use these practices will continue to get away with this greed fueled path until government intervention or class action.

I have been through 10 significant repairs under warranty and two significant repairs 2-8 weeks after the warranty expired. I bought an extended labor warranty from the dealer which seems to cover nothing. For a fully covered extended warranty repair it cost me $544. After doing some very recent research it seems the High pressure system is the cause of at least my 2 coil replacements and severe noise in the unit (generally the quality of a cheap AC unit which I should have bought in the first place). The unit is inside the house so you just have to live with it forever. At 21K very poor decision on my part. My advice is buy from a good installer and buy the cheapest one with a 5year warranty and save you money.
Also complained to Carrier and they passed the buck to Climate Master the subcontractor. Also complained about the installer and carrier and BBB closed my negative review administratively without any input from me. This is why negative reviews are impossible to find at BBB as they are a tool of the businesses. I did not mention the dealer's name as that may be problematic but I expect BBB to fight for consumers.

After reading this site, writing to Carrier and speaking to dealer/contractor, I am even more angry. It seems it is only us, the consumer, that gets hurt in this deal. The consumers pays for a new Carrier unit with ten year warranty, the motor is defective so we end up paying service to replace this motor as service is not covered. The contractor however sends motor back to Carrier and Carrier sends them a replacement motor (probably one that was a problem) at no cost to contractor so he wins big bucks in repairs. I agree we need class action...

He informed me that the fan motor controller was malfunctioning and that it had to be replaced or it along with the fan motor. The unit is not yet 10 years old and this is ridiculous for it to not last any longer than this. I have already paid a couple hundred dollars for a capacitor coil that failed early this year. The local dealer discontinued installing the unit that I have due to too many failures and problems with the variable speed fans and controllers. My old unit cooled my house just fine, but was beginning to need replacing. Worn out. On a 90 degree day, with the thermometer set on 72 degrees, it gets up to 80 degrees in my house. After six trips to check my duct work and everything else my dealer could think of, they called the Carrier Rep and he could not fix it. Only one week later and no cooling. They return and tell me that now, it's a bad TXV valve. Cost for estimated repair? $1,000. I called Carrier and explained all of this. Their response? "You're on your own."
I now see the amount of issues with this TXV valve and people are telling me that there could have been contamination from the lubricant that the Copeland uses, which has been known to clog TXV valves. No one in the service department has yet brought up flushing or vacating the system to remove any contaminants and they tell me that I'm taking a gamble of installation of a new TXV valve that they can't guarantee that this won't happen again.

I spoke to Carrier Rep and she advised that due to a higher failure of compressors in my Infinity model the Carrier Reps and Dealers got together to come up with what she called a "Solution". They are giving me the parts at no charge (which is already covered under my 10 Warranty for compressor) and they are also allowing $200 toward the labor to replace my compressor. My AC Dealer is charging $980 to install it so I am left with a bill of $835 with tax to replace a bad part that they know fails (most of the time and/or more than once - from what I am reading on this website). If there is a lawyer that has had an issue with Carrier please contact us to start the Class Action Suit. $8,000 is a lot of money to pay for less than 7 years of AC.
"Back in the day" units might have cost $2000 but they lasted 20-30 years. Now we are paying 4 times as much and they are lasting less than 10 years. The suppliers are releasing a bad product and the Dealers are charging absorbent prices for labor to fix our bad units. This is highway robbery for the consumers. We all need to go back to the $100-150 window AC units and leave the central air companies with no business. I could use 5 in my house and may have to replace them every 4 years but over a 20 year period I would have only spent $2500 to 3750. During rebate promotion in Virginia, the state approved a sub-standard product rather than the superior Carrier compressor and coil (ADP specifically). Carrier and their dealers sold the product as Carrier, never explaining the difference of the parts being used. Carrier accepted the 10 year warranty on parts and labor, saying specifically "Carrier warrants that it will cover without charge, through a registered dealer during normal working hours, any labor costs associated with a defect or malfunction in the covered equipment.", in this case the compressor. The dealer who installed the unit "does not cover Virginia. One of our other dealers will cover it as we know you are covered." Corporate office for the chain says "We have no dealers licensed to work in Virginia. You will have to have Carrier handle your claim."
Carrier told us "You will have to find a dealer that will take over your warranty which will be handled through their distribution center." (Huh?) The Carrier award winning dealer with whom we have an inspection contract, and also has an outstanding rating in the not for profit Checkbook, not knowing we have the warranty, would charge us $1195 in labor to replace the coil, as they were not a party to the purchase of this unit and did not receive the payment for the warranty. This is the first day of this drama. The dealer who sold us may have violated by coming to Virginia to install. The State may be culpable in specifying substandard products when higher quality were available. Wonder who was involved in those decisions?
The preferred Carrier dealer has three clients today that are having the same problem with the same coil and compressor. And Carrier knew what was going on during this, selling these units as Carrier, when in fact they are not. AND, now that they are breaking down, five years in, they are not backing them up with Carrier products, only replacing the sub-standard ADP. More to come.
