I bought a $1500 tankless water heater from Build.com via Amazon. Can't fault Amazon, they don't sell WHs. Ferguson, via their plumbing supplier Build.com does. This particular WH has an astounding warranty. 10 years on the heat exchanger! If you haven't had a problem by then you're golden. My unit was going in new construction and therefore wasn't used before the 30 day deadline. 1 hour in... A condensate leak. I've been a licensed residential builder since '92. I went to plumbing school in 1980. I made well over a million dollars as a maintenance mechanic for the nation's largest Iron miner, hired off the street for my lucrative position. Yes, I installed it myself. I repeatedly had to repair the local plumbers' new work, not anymore. I've remodeled at least 20 bathrooms, full deal, right down to the joists. Again, one hour of run time.

Obviously condensate as it only drips 30 secs into the cycle and 2 min after demand. Hours later, nothing. It's condensate. Rinnai tech says it will have to be exchanged. Build.com says sorry... 30 days. But YOU sold me a WH with a ten year warranty, a year on labor which I don't want or need. After the rough-in I can change this in 15 minutes. How can you advertise and sell a warranty and then refuse to honor. Rinnai won't help. They sold it to Ferguson. Ferguson won't even speak to me as Build.com was the retailer. Build.com says sorry our policy is.... Their policy is "HAHA. YOU SHOULD'VE KNOWN BETTER".

I ordered a kitchen sink. First one arrived damaged. It was obviously a sink that had been returned previously, there were a few broken pieces of styrofoam, and the accessories were just thrown into the middle of the sink with no packaging. I had to return it, and they sent a 2nd one. This one again was the same - no proper styrofoam, sink was damaged. It was obvious from the way the box was taped up that this was again a sink someone had returned and no one checked the condition or packaging before sending it out. Of course, again I have to return it, and then wait for my refund - I won't give them a 3rd shot to get it right. I'm not sure what's up with this company but they are obviously selling 2nds...This was a $1600 kitchen sink BTW, not some discount brand

I'm only writing this review b/c my experience was so different from all the negative reviews out there. I think people just write reviews for this type of business when they have a bad time. So, I'm here to tell you that EVERYTHING about my experience was EXCELLENT. I got multiple shipments consisting of products that I've never had experience buying before. The folks in customer service were super knowledgeable and helped me chose the right stuff. Shipping was prompt. Nothing arrive broken. I could not have asked for more. More of my stuff even arrived a day or two earlier than predicted. I'm a happy camper.

The product arrived damaged and I refused the shipment - and shipment tracking shows it arrived right back to their warehouse four days later! It has now been THREE months since that refusal and I am still waiting for my refund. I have spoken with four different customer service reps - each of them telling me that they processed my refund and that it would take 3-4 days for it to arrive in my bank account. Yet, here we are, still no refund. Three months. Perhaps their policy is to stall as much as possible in hopes to get the customer to give up. Not happening - especially with an $1,600 item. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE!!! They are crooks.

Seems fair, Except once the background is looked at it’s noted “shipping label created 7-16”, “shipped on 7-19“. Wow. The shipping label was created. Thanks guys! I ordered all in all products for $10k+ for our new house. A couple of boxes had parts missing (like drain for sink etc.). I had 5 chats with the customer service so I could get the missing parts. Each of them confirmed the parts will be shipped and followed up by email. No parts ever arrived. When following up by email response... no ever answered again. You cannot get anyone on the phone - so all is via chat (wait time about 45 min). Finally: I cannot use the sink / cabinet for $1200 as the parts are still missing (after 3 months). DO NOT order anything from build.com if the package contains multiple parts - you will never get those parts.

I ordered 26 hardware cabinet pulls. I ordered 25 quantity in the 3" center to center size, and only one 5" CTC of the same brand/type of pull. After waiting nearly a couple of weeks, the pulls arrived - all 26 of them in the larger 5" CTC size. None were the smaller 3" CTC size that I needed. I promptly phoned Build.com customer service and after being on-hold for well over 20 minutes, I spoke with "Laura". She was pleasant, but never apologized for the Build.com's mistake (which held up my remodel project), and she arranged for me to receive the correct size pulls in a second shipment.

Laura sent me a return label by email, but I had to use my own paper and ink to print it, even though the mix-up was no fault of my own. Today, a week later, I received the second shipment of replacement pulls and ONCE AGAIN - the WRONG size was sent! I received more of the 5" CTC pulls! What the HECK? I called Laura back and asked for a full refund. This is ridiculous. 3 weeks later, and still everything they sent me is wrong. I'm going with purchasing hardware from another company now, sorry to say.

Most recently, Build.com shipped a whole order of mine to the wrong customer in another state and then put all of the items on backorder. Not good news for matching bathroom fixtures. Then, the build.com agent wouldn't allow me to return one of the other items which I had purchased and didn't use or open (because nothing went smoothly, I had to create work-arounds and duplicate purchases). She told me that she *could* approve it, but wouldn't approve it because it was purchased outside of 6 months. "You agreed to 6 months when you bought it, so that's what it is".

It wasn't a discontinued product or anything. She was just seemed happy to have the authority to say no. I cancelled all of my pending orders and got return authorizations for everything else I've ordered from them. Mistakes were made - but I will stay local from now on. Build.com is not for the professional who makes a living doing this.

I did this over the phone with the help of a customer service agent in Chico, California. The sink was delivered by UPS broken in pieces. Build.com then shipped another sink (the same model) to me via UPS. Again, it was broken in many pieces. This delayed my kitchen counter installation by a week. I then ordered a sink from Home Depot which was packed appropriately, and arrived intact. I asked Build.com to at least come and haul the broken sinks away because they weigh 70 pounds each. They refused and said it is against their policy. I was even transferred to the office of the president with my complaint and received the same answer - it's your problem, not ours.

I ordered it on the 16th and only got the thanks email. I logged on more than once to find out what was going on and the website itself is designed as if they are trying to hide information from the consumer. It said it was expected to ship by APRIL 28 but the order did not say processing yet.

On the 26th I logged in and it said processing but it now said expected to ship May 2. I figured where to cancel and clicked the button. Then it told me it could not be cancelled because it was already processing. It said to call asap. I called and was on hold for nearly 35 minutes with no one picking up. I tried chatting and it told me to call. I tried emailing and it told me to call. I'm glad I purchased this on my American Express Platinum because I know they will handle this fiasco with finesse. I am working on a home remodel, and the designer I am working with recommended Ferguson's/Build to purchase the bath and kitchen items. Most of what I purchased I ordered from the showroom in Pasadena. But one item, I had to order from the website. They offered free shipping since my purchase was a $1500 vanity and top. What I missed when I placed the order was that they only offer curbside service and do not require a signature. The communication between the carrier and the Build.com site indicated that the vanity & top had an estimated delivery date of today (06Mar23). But on Friday, I saw the truck pull up in front of the house. Fortunately, I was here and had the driver put it in the garage. Otherwise, I would have come home to find my $1500/approx 300 pound vanity sitting in my driveway. And since I don't own a pallet jack, I would have had no way to move it.

What made this so bad was the attitude of the driver (who laughed the whole thing off and said it was "typical" that the delivery date was in question), their customer service person who was rude as you could possibly imagine, and the attitude of the build.com people who let me know that the carrier (THEIR carrier) was a 3rd party that they have no control over. I was guaranteed that the items I ordered from the showroom would be handled differently. And were if not for the professionalism of the person I worked with at the store, I would have cancelled everything I ordered from them. But I would never order anything else from the website (Home Depot had the same item, and I know they provide accurate delivery dates), and will probably order anything else I need from another company. Home remodels are stressful enough without having to deal with unapologetically unprofessional people.

I certainly didn't do my research on Build.com. The customer service is horrific. First, after you order, it states that you will get a tracking number so you know when your product will arrive. I ordered 2 sets of glass shower doors, so it was important to me to know when they were going to arrive; I didn't want glass shower doors sitting outside my front door. I never got the tracking information. I spent a significant amount of time emailing and calling Build.com's customer service, and all I got was "we are calling the vendor to get tracking for you." So be aware that your product isn't coming from Build.com but some unknown vendor who doesn't respond to Build.com's inquiries.

Finally I asked to cancel the order, and of course, the shower doors arrived the next day. The next issue was that one set of shower doors didn't come with knobs. There are holes in the glass shower doors for the knobs, but no knobs. I have currently been trying to get Build.com to send the knobs. \Same ordeal--we are trying to contact the vendor, over and over. Finally was told vendor is sending them and I would get the tracking info. Nope. After weeks of MY time, no knobs, no tracking information.

    Updated review: March 28, 2023

We were able to resolve my issue and I am extremely happy with how the company handled everything.

    Original Review: Jan. 27, 2023

I recently purchased a Refrigerator that showed online and with the customer service representative a 24 inch Liebherr a few months ago. This is how long this issue has gone unresolved. They sold this to me at over $2800.00 dollars and once I received this and the box was removed not only was I missing parts but I was also missing the bottom vent and this Refrigerator was only 22 inches wide. I have emails after emails and witnesses to my phone calls and Liebherr then told me that this Refrigerator was discontinued long ago and they should have told me this before they sent this to me. The warranty department told me that they could not guarantee a warranty on this appliance but would do their best to find me the model number to the vent piece so that this could be installed.

I notified Build.com via emails right away which the representative who was amazing was shocked to know all of this information and was trying her best to help me the best she can. I then got in touch with the parts department who was able to find me the model number of the vent piece which I then sent to Build.com. They told me that they could not find this model number and that I would have to try to find something to retrofit this appliance. So now not only did I have missing pieces to a Very expensive appliance but I needed to pay additional costs to my carpenter to retrofit a 24inch to a 22 inch Refrigerator with no ventilation piece that is NEEDED to properly vent this appliance so that this would not easily stop working and brake. All of this was sent to Build.com once over 1200.00 dollars of additional costs were spent.

To make it even worse the Refrigerator that was sold to me was NOT a slide in but you also need to build a box to lift this so that the freezer was NOT SITTING on the floor. I spoke with Liebherr about this and they told me that the salesperson should also have told me that even though this is a standard tall appliance this type of Refrigerator in a custom build up too. For months I sent emails and pictures explaining all of this to Build.com and then lo and behold when I went onto their site it NOW SHOWS that this appliance has been discontinued. What they don't know is that I have the original order with the pictures on their site time and date stamped so I can prove that this purchase was made way before they decided to disclose the truth about this appliance.

Through all these months I requested to either have them ship me a new one that I paid for or refund me at least 1/2 since to cover all my expenses and they refused both requests and instead tried to say that I bought a 22 inch Refrigerator according to their specs even though I have pictures on their site that shows 24 inch. Please also note that I have been in designing and construction for over 30 years and NEVER have I had such a horrible unprofessional experience with a company like BUILD.COM which is also a sister company to FERGUSON which I will direct all my clients to not buy anything from this company moving forward too. I am in the process now of working with my attorney since I gave Build.com enough time to do the right thing and they chose to ignore me.

I will never again buy anything from this company. We needed a compact washer/dryer for our space, and Build with Ferguson was one of the few who sold the one we wanted and said they had it in stock. It was unavailable in any retail stores near us. By the time we purchased, we had already been without a washing machine for 3 weeks as ours broke and we tried unsuccessfully to have it repaired. We purchased from Build because their website said they could get it to us the fastest. A week later, they delivered just the dryer. Not only did they not call us to let us know that they weren’t delivering the washer (we were worried it at been stolen), they also dropped the dryer off at the bottom of the hill we live on, despite our explicit conversation with their freight carrier to please bring it to the back alley behind our house. My husband had to walk it 3 blocks by himself to get it in our house, including a bumpy gravel alley.

Then when we contacted them to find out what was happening with the washer, at first they tried to claim it had been delivered. Then after being passed around to multiple people and hung up on, they realized it was on back order. They said it should arrive “sometime next month” and eventually told us it was coming over 2 weeks later. We asked for a discount because of the significant delay, which they declined.

Then on the day it was supposed to be delivered, I got a call from the carrier saying they didn’t have it on the truck. I called Build and once again, at first they were confused, and put me on hold, and transferred me accidentally to the carrier. Then eventually they figured out that the carrier had LOST the washer somewhere in Atlanta, days ago. They couldn’t tell me how soon they’d be able to ship a replacement. I couldn’t take it anymore so I canceled and got a refund. Horrible experience, terrible customer service, and incompetence everywhere. Never, ever buy from these people.

Unfortunately the initial customer service representative was very rude and even laughed at me when I explained my frustration with having paid an electrician to install a chandelier that was small and built crooked. Even after she acknowledged their mistake with listing that chandelier incorrectly, I had to speak to a manager and that manager said all they could do was return the chandelier but I would need to pay to get it taken down as well as purchase a box because they don’t typically return the items without the box.

I was advised that I could not be compensated in any way for having already paid to have the chandelier installed or having to pay again to get it reinstalled although the mistake was made on their behalf. I am now out of the cost of having it installed and now having to have it taken down and having a new one installed. They weren’t willing to do anything to resolve their mistake and now I will need to wait another month at least a month to get the refund. Horrible company, will not do business with them in the future. Buyer beware. It costs $700 each time the electrician has to come out to install old and install chandelier. This will be an additional $1400 on top of the $700 for the initial uninstall and reinstall of the current chandelier On top of the cost of the new chandelier.

2 months ago I bought a fridge. They gave a delivery estimate of 3 months. I also bought an extended warranty for it - and found out later that the warranty starts on the day of purchase. NOT at delivery. AND it includes the 1-year manufacturer's warranty. Not quite a extended as it sounds... Then I got a call from the shipper (a month before scheduled) that my fridge would be delivered tomorrow on a semi: could they drive that to my house? No, not tomorrow, I'd either need a few days to clear the area or a smaller truck. The shipper said they could easily send it on a smaller truck. I called them a week later to see when to get my fridge (that I waited 2 months for) and learned that they sent it back instead. They claimed my money had been refunded, because I "refused delivery". Well, I had not received any notification of refunded money either. So what happened?

I had paid by PayPal and when I cancelled the fraudulent warranty, it was refunded to paypal. The fridge was "refunded to original payment method" in their system - which meant the money was NOT sent back to me until I complained. They simply sat on it. I asked if I could get my fridge from the shipper's terminal: no. They take customer's money as free loans and have no actual products to ship. Do NOT give them your money, Build with Ferguson is a fraud!

I have used Build.com in the past to purchase many items for my home improvement projects and the service is usually great. However, something happened recently that makes me doubt our financial institutions as well as these web-based retailers. Someone recently used an old Amex card that was associated with my Build.com account to purchase $2,000 worth of plumbing supplies.

I check my credit card accounts fairly regularly but this purchase happened right after one of my check ins. When I saw the charges on my card, I immediately called the credit card company but they told me because the card number was already associated with Build.com I should speak with them. It was Sunday so I would have to wait to actually speak with anyone so I started doing some digging. It seems even though the order was not made under the account I have with Build.com, my email address associated with the account did receive some notifications. The first was on 3/6, the day the order was placed. I did not receive an order confirmation but they did email me to tell me there was a problem with the payment information. I am not sure if the fraudsters fixed the issue because I didn't and yet, the order went through.

I got a second email on March 7th indicating the items were on the way. Luckily that email had the UPS tracking numbers and I was able to confirm the items were delivered to me at an address in NJ and were delivered on March 8th. For the record, I don't live in NJ, never have, don't know anyone in NJ and have never purchased anything to be shipped to NJ. I don't know if the residents that live in Princeton Junction are a part of the fraud or not but now that I had enough knowledge to about the fraudulent order, I did not want to wait until 3/14 to contact Build.com so I used the chat options. The person I chatted with was pleasant and has nothing to do with my frustration at this time. They informed me that the transaction was flagged on 3/10 by Build.com as fraud and that I would be receiving a refund.

My anger comes from the fact that Build.com knew the day of the order that something wasn't right because they sent me an email about it. However, they processed the order and shipped out the items in less than two days. The items were ordered on 3/6 and delivered on 3/8. It seems on the 10th they decided it was indeed Fraud, had charged my credit card but had not informed me that there was fraud. I found out because I actually check my charges. Had I not done so, I would have paid $2,000 for something I did not purchase and that Build.com knew I didn't purchase. Were they waiting to see if I would do something about it or if they were going to get to keep my money? I no longer have any faith in this company to do what is in the best interest of their customers.

Why is it that the people who are victims of Fraud are not informed and are only refunded if they catch it? The bigger question is why does a credit card company who knows that an account number has been breached and used for fraud in the past refuse to close down that card number completely and continue to let it happen?

Build.com is owned by Ferguson’s Plumbing. They own an appliance showroom in Las Vegas and supposedly an installation service for appliances bought through them. We went to the Showroom with a decorator to remodel our kitchen. After ordering and fully paying for the appliances the salesperson never informed us that the rangetop was not actually available. 2 months later I was informed it would not be available for 6 to 8 months. I attempted to call our assigned saleswoman, Heidi, no less than 3 times leaving a message to call me back since she never answers a phone. I finally gave up and ordered my replacements on Appliance Connection. Getting my money refunded from Ferguson’s took 2 months and many more phone calls.

Last week the oven got delivered, but the Ferguson installers refused to install falsely claiming the custom cabinet was not deep enough (not true). I had to pay an additional $400 to have a professional appliance installer come to the house, push the oven into its custom space, and simply attach the electrical whip. Their installers acted annoyed that they had to perform work. I will NEVER order anything from this company again.

Build.com contacted me and said they would be happy to help, but needed pictures so they could make a claim against the shipper. I took 5 or 6 pictures and sent them to the company. I received an email saying they didn't get the pictures. I sent them again. I received another email saying the same thing - that there were no pictures attached to my email. I sent the pictures again and have not received a reply. I emailed them later and asked what the status was -- no reply. How this company is still allowed to trade is a mystery to me. Ordering is easy and smooth but then the nightmare begins. Ordered 22 boxes of very large porcelain tiles which arrived 2 weeks later than promised and half of them smashed to pieces. The boxes were not neatly stacked or secured and looked like they’d been thrown onto the palette from a great height. Complained to Ferguson's who assured me new boxes would be dispatched free of charge. 25 phone calls, 5 live chats, 4 emails and 6 weeks later, still no replacements arrived.

I never spoke to the same customer service agent twice and each one I did speak to had never heard of the previous one. Having run out of time and not having enough tiles to complete my work, I arranged to return them and get a refund. I was told to expect an email with the Returns Label attached. 2 weeks later, no email or label. Called again, no record of requesting a return so set it up again. Label arrived and collection date set for a week later. Collection day came and went, no show.

Called Ferguson's at 4:30 and was put on hold for 30 minutes while she tracked down the pick up driver. Was told he was delayed due to traffic and was 3 hours behind schedule but would DEFINITELY be arriving late in the evening. Nope, that didn’t happen either and haven’t heard another word from them. They give an Oscar winning performance on the phone and fill you with convincing assurances which never materialize. Just wish I’d read the reviews before ordering from this company so don’t waste your time or money with them.

I explained that I didn't intend to hunt down and pay for packing material, drive to a dropoff to send back. They sent a driver out to get the parts but he wouldn't take them because they weren't packaged up.

I called again to Build... and told them to send someone out to pick them up as they were...not our responsibility to package up the wrong product sent. A month later they charged us again $400 (which we will appeal with our Visa). Could only get robo-answers when I tried to call. Got on live chat and they wouldn't fix the situation. Beware, it's apparently a shipping company with little staff, no operators, and no way to fix an issue, even when it's their doing.

On 21 March 2021, I placed an order at Build.com for a Kohler Santa Rosa toilet. My credit card was charged right away for the price of the toilet which was approximately $300. A week later the shipping company delivered several boxes from Build.com to my house. A few days later my contractors who were working on our bathroom renovation indicated that incorrect item was delivered: instead of one Kohler toilet two Toto toilets were delivered to me. The packaging slip that was attached to the boxes indicated my name and order details for Kohler toilet.

I immediately reached out to the Build.com customer service. After approximately 40 minutes of wait time I was connected to the representative who assisted me with the return or the items which were sent to me by mistake by Build.com. A week later the shipping company came to pick up the boxes (which were unopened since original delivery), however, they were not able to pick up the boxes since they were missing a pallet on which the boxes were originally delivered. This was due to the fact that my contractors discarded the pallet together with some of the construction debris in. I called the customer service again.

After an hour wait I spoke with the representative who indicated that they can’t pick up my order without a pallet (even though all the packages are unopened and in the same condition as they were delivered to me). I was suggested to go to Home Depot and seek for a new pallet there. Since I don’t have a car which can fit a pallet into, I sent another e-mail to Build.com requesting to resolve this situation since it was obviously not my fault that Build.com messed up my order (my order was never delivered and I was stuck with two toilets I never ordered).

Shortly after I received a call from Build.com and the representative indicated that they will arrange the pick up of the boxes by UPS (who do not require the pallet). She also indicated that I will get my money back shortly after the items are picked up. The next day the UPS guy came by and was able to pick up only two boxes (one toilet) since Build.com provided him with only two labels (while I specifically indicated that there are 2 toilets in 4 boxes). After correspondence with the customer service again I was assured that they will send additional two labels.

The next day the same UPS guy came with ONE LABEL for 0.5lbs package (!) and obviously did not pick up the second toilet since there are two boxes and their weight is definitely more than 0.5lbs. I sent another e-mail to the customer service but they responded that I need to “call in and ask to speak with a manager”. After my request to provide the direct phone number of the manager or ask him/her to call me (I don’t have time to spend additional hour waiting on the line and explaining the entire story from the beginning) there was a radio silence - Build.com customer decided to stop responding on my e-mails.

As a summary, I have never received my original order but was charged for it. It’s almost 3 months that I am dealing with Build.com and trying to get my money back for the order that I have never received. They suggested that I talk to the manager and stopped responding to my e-mails… I’m currently dealing with my bank to dispute this fraudulent transaction with Build.com. Story about Build by Ferguson and their poor shipping services. I placed an order last weekend through Build by Ferguson. I ordered one shower door, one price, one number. Much to my surprise, it ships as two parts (no notation of this in the item description). In addition it shipped from two different carriers. Originally scheduled for delivery on Wednesday, 2/24 from both carriers. One of the carriers (Estes) never called me and the tracking info was never updated. By Friday, it still showed as being delivered on Wednesday.

The other R&L Carriers called immediately, but told me I needed to be present on Wednesday from 2-5pm to sign, they also told me I could complete a form to allow them to drop without signature, which I completed and emailed back the same day (Monday). Despite multiple calls with R&L, the item was never delivered.  After multiple calls I kept getting told, "You have to call back later and tell the other person." They never found my form yet I sent it, multiple times to the email they provided. Estes local terminal told me it was just delivered to them on Friday (despite being told it was to be at my house on Wednesday), but at least did offer pick-up services. Something that R&L would not do.

Moral of the story, stick with a reputable company and service. We may take for granted UPS, FEDEX and places like Home Depot and Lowe's, but they would never allow this type of customer service. Buyer beware and that's why I'm spending the time to write this in the hope that someone reads it and makes a better choice than I did.

The 102 will ship out today or tomorrow but they just do not have tracking as of yet. I apologize, the back order date was an auto generated email from the manufacturer. Let me know if you have any questions."

The order arrived 2 days later but missing one item. The day the order arrived and I saw what happened I immediately sent a reply email to the person notifying them of the problem, but no response has been sent by the next day! I then called Build.com and waited at least 20 minutes for the next available agent to help me. When he answered my call I gave them my order number and explained that when I ordered they showed several in stock for both items but I did not get one of my items. He said that the shipping was scheduled for a month from now from the manufacturer. I explained that they showed in stock and I also received an email from Build.com saying that they would be shipping shortly. He then said that the manufacturer is out and it won't ship until next month.

Basically he didn't care. I said that this was bait and switch tactics. He said that they i.e. Build.com do not warehouse anything. They are strictly online ordering and send it to the manufacturers to fill. If the numbers are not right it is the manufacturer's fault. SO they have no dog in the fight and could care less if I buy or not because you buy online thinking that it is a large operation by the description of the web page but all they are is an office that is an order processing business. So I will never use them again and would recommend to others thinking of using them to be buyer beware. They are a lot of show but no go type of online company. The reason for ordering was that they showed in stock. But hindsight is that they don't stock anything at all!
