Arlo home security uses wireless devices you buy upfront and manage through the Arlo Secure app. You can choose individual devices, such as cameras, doorbells, floodlights, sensors and a keypad hub, then set up the system for the areas you want to monitor.

The system can be self-monitored through the app, but some features require an Arlo Secure subscription. For professional monitoring, you can add a paid plan with 24/7 response features.

Arlo doesn’t require long-term contracts for its subscription plans; plans are billed on a monthly or annual basis and can be canceled through your account.

Arlo home security requires upfront equipment purchases, and monitoring costs extra. Its security kits start at $179.99 and go up to $579.99, though individual security cameras can be purchased starting at $49.99. Its accessories range in price from $14.99 to $299.88.

Arlo Secure has two main paid plan tiers: Plus and Premium. Plus costs $95.88 per year for one camera or $215.88 per year for unlimited cameras. Premium costs $299.88 per year for unlimited cameras and adds emergency response features. A higher-priced Premium plan includes 24/7 continuous video recording for up to three cameras. If you prefer month-to-month billing, Plus costs $9.99 per month for one camera or $19.99 per month for unlimited cameras, while Premium starts at $29.99 per month.

Arlo sells its own equipment, including security cameras, video doorbells, floodlight cameras, sensors, sirens, keypads, security tags, chimes, solar chargers and mounting accessories. You can buy devices individually or choose a security kit that combines several pieces of hardware.

Its home security kits typically include a keypad sensor hub and all-in-one sensors. The sensors can detect several types of activity or environmental changes, including motion, doors or windows opening and closing, water leaks, temperature changes and smoke or carbon monoxide alarms. Arlo also sells indoor and outdoor cameras with features such as 2K or 4K video, night vision, two-way audio and integrated spotlights, depending on the model.

You can expand your system over time with a la carte equipment. Individual cameras start at $49.99, while accessories range from $14.99 to $299.88. Arlo devices work through the Arlo Secure app, and some models are compatible with smart home platforms such as Amazon Alexa, Google Home, Apple Home and Samsung SmartThings.

Arlo supports DIY installation, with many wire-free devices designed for tool-free placement. Its door and window sensors can be placed, moved or adjusted as household needs change, and the sensors use adhesive mounts rather than hardwiring.

Arlo partners with OnTech Smart Services to offer professional installation for select cameras, doorbells and other supported devices.

Your installation process depends on the equipment selected. Sensors might not require drilling, while cameras, doorbells, floodlights and keypads may need mounting based on the device and location. Its wire-free keypad can be mounted or placed on a flat surface, and it can run wire-free or connect with a micro-USB cable.

Arlo products purchased directly or from an authorized reseller generally include a limited hardware warranty. Most products are covered for one year against defects in materials and workmanship when used as intended. Some accessories, batteries and components may have different warranty terms.

The warranty applies only to the original purchaser and doesn’t cover damage from misuse, accidents, improper maintenance, modifications, unauthorized repairs or unauthorized accessories. Arlo also accepts returns for eligible products purchased through its website. For an additional fee, you can purchase an Allstate Protection Plan that covers parts and labor for mechanical or electrical issues.

Arlo home security may be worth it if you want wireless equipment, DIY setup and app-based monitoring without a long-term contract. Its cameras, sensors, doorbells and floodlights work best for customers who want flexible equipment options and don’t mind buying devices upfront.

It may be less appealing if you want lower upfront costs or prefer full access to video storage and monitoring features without monthly fees. Professional monitoring is available through Arlo, but it costs extra.
