Abode is a do-it-yourself security system that offers the option of professional or DIY monitoring for your home. You can customize security packages to protect your home from break-ins, fire, flooding and more. The equipment is simple enough to install without tools. If installation seems too daunting, however, you can choose to have your system professionally installed.
Pros & Cons
- No contracts
- Self-monitoring option
- Simple DIY installation
- Cellular backup only with Pro Plan
Abode is an affordable and simple home security system. You can create a system that works for you and choose professional or DIY monitoring. Some features, such as devices and cellular backup, are limited.
How does Abode security work?
First, homeowners choose their security system. They can build their preferred system based on their needs or purchase one of the three Abode home security kits. Abode also offers four bundle packages with varying levels of added hardware. Once you select your package or build your unique system, it’s time to set it up.
Abode guarantees a simple setup that comes together in minutes. If you prefer, Abode also offers professional installation. Once you set up the system, you can monitor your home from anywhere with the mobile app. Homeowners can choose a self-monitored or professionally monitored system.
Abode monitoring options
Homeowners don’t need a monitoring plan to use basic Abode features. Free self-monitoring allows you to watch live video of your home and control system equipment from your phone. You receive immediate notifications if something happens. Homeowners get all these features even without a plan.
If you upgrade to the standard self-monitoring plan, though, you can also access a recorded timeline, store recorded video and set up automations.
Professional monitoring offers more robust and dependable protection. Homeowners get 24/7 protection with rapid emergency response. There’s also cellular backup in case Wi-Fi fails. Professional monitoring ensures your home is monitored even when you have to be away from your phone.
In case of an emergency, you can hit the panic button and get an immediate response if a smoke alarm or other alarm sounds.
Abode plans and pricing

Is Abode a good security system?
Abode offers many appealing security features for homeowners. It’s affordable, there are no contracts, and customers can choose to monitor their systems themselves. Abode also has its limitations, though: It doesn’t offer as many devices as other companies, and unless you choose a professional monitoring plan, your system won’t have a cellular backup. Overall, Abode is a good choice if your security needs are small and simple.

Very easy to install and set up, the app works seamlessly with our other home devices, we love the geo features, and the mobile app. We also love that it’s self-monitored but can be remotely monitored while away from home, or professionally monitored for short or long-term trips.
