I bought a Mitsubishi 60" rear projection TV in 2008, and now, I have white dots all over my TV. This being a known problem with this TV, I expected it to be taken care of by Mitsubishi. It was not the best offer they gave me - I was to pay them $250 for repairs on the TV. This is unacceptable. When you pay over $2000 for a TV, it should last a lot longer than 4 years.

My 73" DLP has white spots. I have been trying for a month to resolve issue with customer service. They offered to furnish park, lamp and 1/2 of labor. When the servicer called, they stated Mitsubishi would pay no labor. When I called Mitsubishi, they stated they would no longer honor their agreement. Now I'm stuck with a TV that is defective and no repair. Very disappointed with product.

I’m on my fourth phone call with Mitsubishi Visual America. I purchased my TV (Mitsubishi DLP WD-60735) from ShopNBC on 9/2008 with a 3-year extended warranty that expired on 9/3/2011. Starting on 11/2011, I got my first white dot that appeared and now I have many. I have replaced 3 bulbs in that time with no questions asked. After much research about these complaints, I have tried to be a "squeaky wheel" and not fall for Mitsubishi's part replacement offer with just the cost of labor ($200)! They have an inconsistent approach to repairs costing $200 to $1500, depending on how knowledgeable the consumer is to this scam repair that should be a recall!
I am not satisfied with their offers. They keep arranging "call backs" after further looking into my case. I have been offered a free bulb if I pay $200 labor for the DMD chip. Again, I said no! It’s interesting they are offering to fix this part that is out of warranty at all. It shows me they know it is defective! Call back number 5 is due tomorrow from Mitsubishi's support hotline. I started this process on May 23rd. I want them to step up, replace the part for free and re-evaluate this defective TV!

About four years ago, we purchased our 57-inch television. For the first two years, everything was great. When we moved houses, the television would not work. We thought that we messed the bulb up in the television. We replaced the bulb then. The television was only 2 1/2 years old. We then rearranged our living room about three months ago and had to replace the bulb again. About a month later, we started to get the the dreaded white and black dots all over the screen. I contacted Mitsubishi today and they want me to pay to have the repairman come fix the television because my warranty is out. I will never buy another Mitsubishi again.

My husband and I bought a 65" Mitsubishi about three years ago. Two years passed and the bulb goes out! I was not happy on the price for a bulb! Now, we have white spots all over the TV and it is ridiculous. I also see dark spots. I see from everyone else's response that Mitsubishi is not being responsible. This is clearly a defect and they should step up.
I will tell you this, we will never buy a Mitsubishi product again and we will make sure to spread the word so hard. Working people do not spend hard-earned money on a product that should be 100% replaced by Mitsubishi. I wish we never bought the Mitsubishi and went with the LG we were debating between. This is very frustrating, but I am glad we can post and let everyone know so they won't buy a product that is not worth half the money we spent.

My 73" Mitsubishi DLP lasted about two and a half years (under heavy use) before its first white dot reared its ugly head. You'll begin seeing more each week/month along with black specs. They are supposedly stuck mirrors within the DMD chip in the light engine. It's annoying that this happens so fast, and usually shortly after replacing your first bulb.
I went on to YouTube and watched videos of people removing the light engine and replacing the DMD chip. It's actually easier than you think and it took me only 30 minutes. Anyone can do it with minimal effort. I purchased a 1910-6143w DMD chip for my wd-73c8 off eBay for $175 and free shipping. It worked great and my TV is as good as new.

We bought our TV, and it has been a piece of junk from day 1. The bulb went out and now is a paperweight. We replaced it with an LG smart TV. Great TV by the way. We would like to fix the crappy one, but I refused to do so after hearing my friend's troubles with her same Mitsubishi one. They are going on their 4th bulb. It went out again today on them. I want help for her and us, so we can (huge laugh here) use the paperweight again. I would not recommend Mitsubishi to anyone ever! Any help is appreciated. My wife bought me a 73" Mitsubishi TV for Christmas of 2010. She paid over $3,000 for it. It worked fine for about six or seven months then the bulb went out. I paid about $200 for a bulb. That worked for about three months and the bulb went out again. I'm in the middle of watching the Lakers vs. Nuggets in the playoffs, and my damn bulb blows in the fourth quarter. I'm very upset about this. I have called Mitsubishi in the past and all they did is refer me to a local repair shop in my area like Best Buy where my wife bought the TV from in the first place. And they tell me my bulb is blown, something I already know, and no reason why it keeps on blowing out. This will be the fifth bulb that I will buy. I'm spending around +$600 on bulbs alone. I will have to pay extra to have a bulb shipped before the playoffs finish. I am very upset with this TV.

Now, the screen has approximately 50 black spots and as well as 20 white spots, some of which are flickering. I didn't get the extended warranty, but still I don't think a TV that cost me $1500 should be having that kind of issues. My 63 inch Mitsubishi TV is only a few years old. I noticed white dots about a month ago. Every day, they are increasing in number. I went online and found hundreds of complaints so I too called Mitsubishi. What was different about the response I got from the rep was that I should plug something into the TV as it was a plug and play to see if it wasn't my cable box that was causing the white spots. I told him that I didn't have anything else and that I shouldn't have to buy another component set or otherwise along with my TV to prove what he already knows about the defect in the television. I told him I did not want to play games with him and that I'm not plugging in anything else and that there are thousands of us with this problem and that he knew it.
I also told him that I knew that he was supposed to give a number of responses in hopes that I would go away but that wasn't going to work either. He then gave me the scripted response yet they would pay for parts. It would be my $200 that I would have to pay for labor. I then asked for the chip to be sent to my home and he said he would have to escalate the call to an advisor and that they would call me back in 2 business days. This was today and we will see what happens next. I will keep you guys posted. Thanks to everyone before me who posted as I would never have known exactly what to do had I not read these complaints.

Our 64" Mitsubishi DLP TV is expensive to maintain. It is only 4 years old. 6 months ago, I had to replace the bulb for about $280.00, not too bad. I guess, all I had to do was pop the old one out pop the new one in. But now, we are getting white dots. It started with one or two and in just a couple of weeks, there are now over 20. From what I am reading, I am expected to pay for the labor to get this fixed and there is no guarantee that it will stay fixed. I am not sure the money I have invested in this TV was money well spent. This TV is not very good quality and will most likely look at other brands when we purchase our next TV. Please place my name on the class action lawsuit. Thanks.

Back in January 2012, my Mitsubishi DLP 65-in 65735 TV needed a new lamp. After replacing the lamp, I started getting these white and black dots all over the screen. I contacted Mitsubishi concerning the issue and they sent a technician out to diagnose the problem. The technician stated the DMD chip was failing and needed to be replaced. Mitsubishi then agreed to supply the part, but I would be responsible for labor. Knowing my TV was out of warranty, I thought that was a good deal and so I agreed. The cost of labor was $145.00 and after replacing the DMD chip, my television was fixed - no more white and black dots.
A couple of weeks ago, I noticed a new problem with my TV. While watching a program, you will see small camera-like flashes at random on the screen. The only way I can describe the problem is it’s like small camera flashes the size of a pen’s head on the inside of my screen but appearing at random. I called Mitsubishi about the problem and they agreed to send out another technician to diagnose the TV. On April 10, 2012, the technician showed up and stated the DMD chip would need to be replaced again.
Today, on April 12, 2012, Mitsubishi called and stated they would supply the part and I would have to pay for the labor to repair the TV. I explained to the Mitsubishi rep that I have replaced the DMD chip once before and the current DMD chip is the replacement they supplied the fist time just 2 months ago. The rep stated there was nothing she could do; the best they could do would be to supply the parts and I would have to pay for labor! I have a 90-day warranty on the DMD chip, but that is only for the replacement of the chip, not labor! I then asked to speak with a supervisor or someone with more pull and the rep stated there would be nobody else to speak to. The rep stated the matter has already been discussed with managers and that's the best they will do.
Mitsubishi is a terrible company. They have no respect for the people that buy their products and expect the buyer to pay for repairs, even though the repairs are for defective products. I will never buy another Mitsubishi product from this day forward and warn others to do the same. Buyer beware.

Count me in on any class action lawsuit. I won't buy Mitsubishi ever again.

After reading the long list of Mitsubishi TV complaints on many websites, I feel the need to add my own comments about Mitsubishi's lack of customer support. I own an "older" (7 years) rear projection 65” TV model WS-65513. Late last year, the picture started showing up as waves that continued to get worse as the TV warmed up. This was understandable since it's expected that electronics will need to be repaired as time goes on. What we didn't expect was the response from the TV repair technician that Mitsubishi no longer makes parts for this TV and that if he couldn't repair the part of the motherboard that was causing the waves, then the TV was gone.
He took the insides with him and thought he had it repaired. When he put it back together, it immediately started with the waves while he was still in the house, so he took the entire unit out so they could examine it at the shop. About a month later, he brought it back, all repaired. Within the month, it was doing it again. We called him back and he took the unit out again. It’s now another month and it’s still in the shop. The technician said the part they used was defective and he’s still trying to locate another used part as Mitsubishi does not support the product anymore.
It’s now going on 5 months without this TV and I still find it hard to believe that Mitsubishi has stopped making parts for a TV that’s only 7 years old. I wrote to Mitsubishi and received a telephone response that confirmed they do not make parts for this TV and there's nothing they could do since it's out of warranty. I know it's out of warranty. That's why I paid for the repair. I just wish I had purchased from a company that would continue to make parts to support a $2000 product for a lot longer than 7 years. My next TV, which I'm shopping for now, will most definitely not be a Mitsubishi.

I bought a Mitsubishi TV on Nov 2007 at a cost of $2000. Few, seemingly minor problems along the way, including green flashing light which turns the TV off unexpectedly, bulb burned on screen. But now, and of most concern, prolific white dots across the screen. I didn't know if it was fixable at all nor what cost might be. I believed the only solution was to dump the TV in a landfill area? I found an online community with the same totally exact problems with their Mitsubishi TVs, even a Facebook page entitled simply: "I have a defective Mitsubishi TV". Along with this consumer affairs page on the subject, I learned of all nightmares others had gone through when attempting to get to Mitsubishi, let alone have them fix their TV problem(s).
I initially called Costco, the place we bought the TV from, their concierge line (866-861-0450). I told my problem and were they aware of these issues? My own TV is out of warranty by this time (3/19/12), but others online were, too, so my predicament is not a solo event. Costco should at least be aware of this and not be selling lemons for Mitsubishi, a company that didn't care they had a problem nor were they willing to fix any of these problems from reoccurring, if at all. Why would Costco, whom many had come to trust over the years, continue or want to continue doing business with another company, Mitsubishi, that was making them and others look bad? The Costco concierge rep, a very nice lady, listened and then told me my specific TV was not on a recall list, but got permission to call Mitsubishi for me, after I told her of the online similar issue postings and stayed on the line while I spoke to Mitsubishi.
At first, the Mitsubishi rep Edison said there was nothing Mitsubishi could do as my TV was out of warranty. When informed of what I discovered online from others with similar complaints, Edison came back, after research and offered to send parts gratis, but I would have to pay for half the labor charges. At this point, paying any amount over and above what I had already paid for the TV was not acceptable but if it would indeed be fixed, I was willing to pay something in order to keep the TV and not take it to the dump. I offered $125, they required $163 for a $325 estimate. Odd thing is, Mitsubishi wanted me, in Hawaii, to pay to use some "authorized Mitsubishi dealer" in Lexington, Kentucky for the repair and I would have to pay upfront to do so. I disagreed to pay anyone that far away whom I did not know. Any hard-earned money for repairs Mitsubishi could not warrant me would fix forever my TV issue or be done promptly or would be done at all.
Edison of Mitsubishi said he would forward my request and I would be called back, something I was learning was a standard answer on their list of responses to customers. The nice Costco rep, who was still on the line listening, said she would call back also after giving time for Mitsubishi to do as they said. This was on 3/14/12. On 3/15/12, Joshua from Mitsubishi called after speaking with his supervisor who did not waiver from original offer. This is when I informed Mitsubishi the online readings were saying Mitsubishi would send parts for free and would pay most, if not all, the labor costs for these TV problems. Joshua said he would refer it through and I would be contacted again.
On Friday, 3/16/12, a rather quick and unrecognizable message was left from someone whom I later understood was a Shantell. I called the Mitsubishi 800-332-2119 number and spoke with Lanzer, who informed me Shantell's message was parts and 1/2 labor costs. I informed Lanzer I would be willing to pay $125, as times are tough for everyone, but at least I was willing to pay something. Lanzer again referred this back to Mitsubishi and said I would be contacted.
Monday, 3/19/12, I received a call from Shantell of Mitsubishi. She stated matter of factly that it was parts and 1/2 labor, no difference. Take it or leave it. If I agreed, the Kentucky authorized repair dealer (Bobby John's Electronics, Inc.) would get the fix in order, put in for parts, it could take the better part of a month at least and I would have to pay upfront for the pleasure of doing business with someone in Kentucky whom I did not know nor have the assurance anything would be done except that they'd have my money. NFW. I suggested to Mitsubishi's Shantell that a reputable repair dealer here on Maui might be able to do the job instead of someone from thousands of miles away. She said if I wanted to do so, that would be fine, that the dealer would have to come do a diagnostics and estimate on my TV and I'd have to fax that in to Mitsubishi at a number she gave (949 609-4900). Is this what I wanted to do? Yes.
I contacted a TV repair place referred to me by our electrician (my husband is a builder). It seems this repair place, Aka's TV & Electronic Repair in Kihei, Maui, Hawaii (808-879-5926), not only can do the work specified but has already done prior work orders for Mitsubishi and also referred me to the Mitsubishi rep who okay-ed the work be done (Jon **). Also, since Mitsubishi already knew what the exact problem with my TV is, why is the diagnostic and estimate required which is an added expense/visit? I called Mitsubishi back, spoke with someone named john (not Mr. **). When I told him of the new developments I had uncovered/researched, including the name of their Jon **, he became a little more alert and listened while I suggested Mitsubishi should use Aka's TV & Electronic Repair as one of their "authorized repair" places. They would be doing a disservice to Mitsubishi not to. I was put on hold while John called Aka's TV to get further information, finding out the case number of the case Aka's had previously taken care of for Mitsubishi.
So then John said he would re-refer my case back to Shantell who would be contacting me again. I called Aka's to let them know this. An hour later, I was contacted, per appointment, by the Costco rep who asked what had transpired since last she and I spoke. After giving her my debrief, she too said she would contact me this Thursday to see what Mitsubishi had to say. In all of this, consumer affairs should know there are many consumers who are quite angered about Mitsubishi's quantity over quality and our government's allowing them to continue to sell pieces of junk to us at prices above and beyond what their junk is worth. It does seem like they are making their monies now on all the parts made to purchase to "fix" our TVs, which we spend more money on so as to not have them break down. Guess planned obsolescence is not too well-known in our own vernacular.
We are understanding, too, that since Mitsubishi is a maker of some of our government's military and defense industries, shall we say "parts", that maybe that's why nothing's being done to stop Mitsubishi from making crappy pieces of junk because it would mar a relationship we have with them? The question has to be asked. If Mitsubishi is so terrible in not only their products, but also in their customer support and their customer relations. Of those products, one has to consider that other things they make i.e. military in nature could also stand to be questioned as lemons. And again, we the American public are paying for it. Please let me know if there is a class action suit happening on these TVs. It's a shame we've let it go this far. Somewhere, someone has to have the ballistics to stop the madness here. Please.

My wife and I have a 73 inch DLP 73732 purchased 5 years ago from Best Buy with an extended 3 year warranty. Since then, we have had 3 bulbs go (barely use the TV... no kids) and have had the color wheel/engine go out for the second time. The first time, Best Buy came out and confirmed it was the "Engine" of the DLP when all the weird colors would blink green and blue. The cost for the part according to Best Buy was $1,400.00 without labor. Well, the warranty is over and the color wheel and bulb have failed once again.
In 5 years, that is completely unheard of. The design has to be the reason for this so called engine/color wheel failing from the intense heat of the bulb and the lack of it cooling the insides. This suit is just garbage to replace the one bulb. I will never go back to any Mitsubishi products and will file an additional complaint with Consumer Reports.org since I am a long term member. I purchased my TV about 4 years ago. Just this week, I've started getting white spots on the screen. Every time I turn on the TV there are more and more spots. From reading different comments, this is a common and very expensive problem with Mitsubishi TVs. I would like to be a part of any class action suit! This TV was way too expensive to go out like this.

I experienced the same thing as everyone else in this forum. White spots started appearing, multiplied, and now our TV doesn't have a picture anymore. I bought Mitsubishi since I was raised on these TVs and their quality has been impressive. My parents still have one of their old Mitsubishis that's 20-plus years old. I bought a 55" Mitsubishi big screen, one of the old school models that served as a TV and piece of furniture all in one. That thing lasted a good 8 years, so when it came time to replace it, I had tunnel vision where I only looked at Mitsubishi. I bought a 60" DLP (because you always have to go bigger) and have been impressed yet again with another quality Mitsubishi product. 14 months later (just long enough not to be covered by their warranty), my high quality Mitsubishi product became a high quality piece of junk. What happened, Mitsubishi? You're losing your loyal customers in droves. Model: WD-60638. Serial: 138605. Manufactured: October 2010.

We have had our WD-77534 Mitsubishi for 4 years and 3 months and are completely disappointed in it. About 6 months ago, we had to replace a lamp and another lamp about 2 months later. Now, about a month ago, we started getting white spots on TV. I did some research and found out it is the DMD (Digital Mirror Device) and that the mirror stops working. Little tiny mirrors start freezing up. There are, I think, 2000 or 20,000 of them. I don't remember. And now we have about 1000 on our screen. It looks like a constellation with an attitude! Anyhow, to replace them will be $250 if it's a stand alone part. If it's part of another part, it's $750. What the hell? We bought the TV from HSN and they raved about it. We have a Hitachi old school TV that still works flawlessly and we haven't put a red cent in to it. Sign me up for class action. Whatever! I’m disgruntled behind repair. This is the last Mitsubishi we will own unless someone makes things right!

I purchased a TV for $3,000 a couple years ago. I brought it to a local Authorized Mitsubishi Service center after contacting Mitsubishi in regards to my issue. The result from the Service Center was that the part to fix my TV was $3,720.
After doing some research, I found that this was a known problem with these TVs. I contacted Mitsubishi again and told them what I had found. They agreed to supply the part for no charge which was great considering it was out of warranty. The service center told me $95 to install the part. I was very satisfied with the decision. Well, I find out in a week after the agreement that the part is "discontinued" and there was nothing they can do except offer me another TV. They offered me a Toshiba TV which was not even close to the same quality as the $3,000 TV that I had purchased and not to mention, they wanted me to pay $500 for it as well. How is it that I should have to pay that much for something that was supposed to cost me $95 and it is not even the same quality.
I called them and demanded to speak to a higher up and AJ contacted me. I explained to him my dissatisfaction and he told me he would "rework the numbers" and "TV choice". Today, I received a call with them offering a TV that was much nicer and the same quality of mine which was an LG Model. Problem is they now wanted me to pay $900. How is it they authorize a $3,700 part to repair my TV and it is discontinued and that became my $900 problem?

I am writing to write my extreme displeasure with a purchase of a KWD-82840 television I purchased on December 22, 2011 and received delivery of shortly after the new year of 2012. Upon delivery in early January 2012, this television has never worked. It is now March and I have been going back and forth with your customer service department since then. Also, the primary reason I purchased the new Mitsubishi television was to enjoy the NFL playoffs and Super Bowl with friends and family in my entertainment room. My family and friends love that I usually have a wonderful entertainment set up for such events as the Super Bowl but obviously this did not work out as planned. I would also like to mention I am an A/V hobbyist and have a Sharp Aquos in my office, and 5 Sony Bravia televisions throughout my home. Prior to purchasing your Mitsubishi, I had a 60 Sony SXRD I purchased in 2006 for my entertainment room which still worked great but I wanted an upgrade in size. I chose the Mitsubishi over the new Sharp 80" LCD screen and it is proving to be one of the biggest mistakes I have made in a long time.
Upon receiving the television, I got a constant blinking green light and the television would not power on. I spent a solid day troubleshooting from tips in your owners manual and nothing worked. I called your customer service several times and finally spoke to someone who said he definitely knows the problem and it was a bad main unit. He said he would ship one to a service center and they will contact me. Well, about three weeks later, a tech finally came to my home (as I had to take a day off work) and took the television apart and replaced the main unit and they said it wasn't the problem. The tech then went on to say the problem was a bad optical engine and I should call Mitsubishi and have one sent to them.
I then spent several hours on the phone with some customer service reps and after an arduous time on the phone, I finally got someone who said they will send a new optical engine out to the tech working on the television. I asked for this to be expedited as it was now nearing the end of January and the Super Bowl was on the horizon. Of course, this didn't happen, and a few weeks later in early February the tech came to my home with a new optical engine (had to take another day off work). After an hour or two working on the television, he said that the optical engine wasn't the problem and that he thinks it might be the panel in the front of the television malfunctioning. The tech went on to say to call Mitsubishi and have a front panel sent to them. I then proceeded to spend another few hours going back and forth with several people on the phone until one of the reps was actually chuckling at this situation going on so long and would send the part out not knowing if it was the actual problem of the television.
A few weeks later, I had not heard anything and I called the tech that was working on television and he said they had not received any part from Mitsubishi. I was irate and called Mitsubishi up a few days ago and the rep apologized and I asked to speak to a manager (which they said couldn't locate, guess someone is more important than a customer). They gave me the same speech that they had given me month prior that someone is working on my case and would get back to me in a business day. Well, that was Tuesday February 28 and as of this morning, Friday March 2nd. I did not hear back from anyone. This morning, I put another call in to Mitsubishi and the rep read from her same script saying she would look into it and now someone would get back to me in two business days. I lost my composure and told her how disappointing it is to be treated this way after spending several thousand dollars on a television that has never worked. It is seemingly a lemon and rather than just make the situation right. I have been getting the runaround going on three months.
Interesting in that about a year ago I bought a 55 Sony Bravia that wasn't working properly and Sony literally sent me new one three days later, took the old one back and apologized profusely. I am very disappointed I didn't buy a Sharp or Sony, whom I have had very good customer experiences with. I am learning the hard way what companies stand by their products and which clearly don't. I am also in medical sales and I deal with a lot of customers daily in the field (doctors, pharmacists, administrators) in the New York and Connecticut area. Most of these customers, as well as family and friends, know I am an A/V hobbyist and we always discuss the latest devices on the market. I have told everyone in my sphere at how horrific this experience was and that they should avoid Mitsubishi at all costs. I know I am just one customer out of thousands but I thought you should know about my situation. If I am being treated this way, how many other customers are being treated like this or worse?

Two yrs ago, we bought our Mitsubishi 73 inch TV from Fry's electronics in Arlington, Texas. My husband picked it up one evening after work and they loaded it in the truck for him. When he arrived home at 8:30 pm and easily unloaded it and opened the box, we found the whole screen to be busted out. We called Fry's from both phones and were told too bad. Of course, that was unacceptable for us seeing how we just paid $3500 for it and the stand. After two days of fighting with them, we were told that they would review the store video and show us that they inspect every TV that leave the store before it leaves. After 30-minute wait, they called back and said for us to bring the TV back and they would replace it. All the manager could say is they could not prove the TV had been inspected before it left the store so they replaced it.
We just replaced our first bulb in October 2011 and even though I thought wow, this TV is costing us another $100, I went with it because I love the TV. My wife has always complained about the cost of the TV and how a TV should never cost that much. So just the other evening, my wife says, "What's that spot on the TV?" I get up and try to wipe it off and of course, it does not come off. So my wife googles it and finds this forum. I love my TV and I will be very, very, very angry if in fact my TV starts to look like the galaxy and I have to fork out more money to fix it. Mitsubishi will have another very angry person on their hands if this is something that can not or will not be fixed by them. Faulty parts, hmm, this sounds like a Toyota recall ! We spend outrageous amounts of money on TVs and they are only lasting 3-5 years. This is out of hand and someone should have to pay to fix the problem and not the consumers! Class action suit, you bet you! I will personally take the money I may have to invest into my TV and sue the crap out of Mitsubishi!
There is no one in their right mind who could afford to go through this. We grew up with TVs that are still working great 20 years later. Technology is expensive I get that but if you pay what we have paid for a TV then you damn well expect to get at least 10+ years out of it! Not 2-3 years that comes out to like $1000 per year for a junker. Lemon lay on TVs? I will not pay someone to come out and repair my TV. If it comes to that, I will be taking my TV straight to Mitsubishi and I will camp out on their door step and call every news station and paper that I can think of. I will broadcast on Facebook and Twitter and warn people not to spend their hard earned money on a hunk of junk called Mitsubishi! Good luck, everyone and if anyone hears of any type of recourse on this TV issue, please feel free to contact me. I will be right there with you. Thank you all for your information and I truly believe that we can make them pay if we all join together to get justice. Use your senators and reps in your state to help us stop this robbery!

Certain resistors in the DM and E2P circuit boards are causing the screen to shut down aka "the blinking green light of death" or blue screen. While the problem is repairable for a reasonable fee if the parts can be purchased, Mitsubishi will only provide the parts to "Authorized repair shops". This results in higher parts and labor costs because you are at their mercy. I could have my 5yr old unit repaired for about $200-$300 if I could get the parts. I paid $1,440 for the set (I see them on sale now for $1100), so I really feel for those who spent thousands more than me, but I don't think $1,440 should be considered a disposable TV.
I owned three Mitsubishi TVs before this, and always considered them a top brand. I have an old projection, that has never had a problem. I believe that Mitsubishi has been dishonest in dumping these flawed sets onto the public, and would like to be added to the hundreds (thousands?), who would be part of a class action law suit. There must be at least one lawyer out there, that has bought one of these junk sets?

We purchased a Mitsubishi 60" WD60735 in 2008, and just a month ago, it began developing white spots and small black flecks on the screen as well. We have never had any problems with any other of our HD TV's (from other brands), and we have owned them for much longer! The white and black spots continue to multiply. We have put in a call to customer service at Mitsubishi, but from all we have been reading in the forums, we do not feel very hopeful for a satisfactory response from this company. For the money we spent on this TV, we should not be having these issues.

I bought my TV on February 9, 2011, thru Dell and it took me a month to even get the Mitsubishi TV customer service number. On March 2, 2011, I filed my first complaint. It took me until December 8, just to get them to send out a repair technician. Many parts later and terrible phone calls later, they are trying to replace my TV with their lowest model they make now. I understand it is bigger, but I live in a condo and don't need bigger.
Almost a year later, they are trying to make me pay to upgrade to a TV, equivalent to mine and I lost out on my extended warranty that I paid for and they want to do nothing for me. Within the first month, I wanted them to just take back the TV and give me my money, but no such luck. I really don't want to go through the problems that the rest of you are having and can not stand paying for something that I haven't been able to watch and don't even have right now to make a real expensive clothes hanger out of.

We have now replaced our lamp 6 times since we purchased in 2007. A year ago, the light engine was replaced and the color wheel. This was done after a month of describing our "lemon" 65-inch DLP's problems to Mitsubishi personnel. We sent our TV out to an electronics repair shop approved by Mitsubishi, but not us. We didn't get our TV back for almost 3 months. One month after the supposed repairs were done, we began to see wavy muted blotchy pictures. Mitsubishi said this was from a bad cable. None of my other TVs had this problem. This has never been resolved, we just couldn't wait on the phone for help or discussions for another month. Our bulb is out again! Mitsubishi knows fully well they have a problem product, as do the electronics stores that sell them. We have paid far too much money and time for this TV. We should get our money back, period!

About 4 years ago, my husband bought me a 60 inch Mitsubishi 1080P 57734 model TV as I had to have both hips replaced for a total of 13 surgeries and could do nothing but lay down and watch TV or read. I was not that into TV but you can't help noticing something that big. We bought the extended warranty. It's a good thing we did as the lamp blew out quite frequently. Sometimes it would just not turn back on and then other times it literally exploded like a gunshot.
We figured, oh well, we had paid thousands for it and still had to spend a couple hundred each time the lamp blew on average of a bulb every 6 to 8 months but I had gone from an active horsewoman and certified Master All Breed Pet Groomer to a cripple whose sanity pretty much depended on living life vicariously through this God awful machine. If not being able to walk isn't bad enough, you develop pneumonia because your body doesn't work any better than the TV does and when you come home from the hospital you turn the TV on and realize you now have a entire constellation or ten on the screen with more white dots aka stars appearing daily.
I looked up this unusual problem only to realize it is far from unusual and Mitsubishi has known about this for years. Not only have they known about it but they have managed to mass produce the faulty product and only repair a few of them here or there. Now I am normally a very tolerant person but under the circumstances I must admit I am severely angry about this and I find myself laying here squinting to see the TV through all the spots and wiping away the tears that could be from the depression this development with my TV is causing or it could just be from eye strain trying to watch it in this condition.
I cannot afford a new TV and can't afford to fix this one either. I know it may sound ridiculous to some people but I have come to rely on my TV for my soul source of a very limited life and enjoyment. I watch the news to keep current on world affairs. I watch horse shows and rodeos dreaming of a time gone by but by immersing yourself into the show you feel the horse under you again. You watch movies to steal away from the pain you are constantly in and when it hurts so bad your pain meds don't phase you and you can't sleep, there is always some kind of show you can turn on and concentrate on that instead of the agony your in.
Take away that escape and you might as well shoot me and get it over with. Mitsubishi I hope you make it right for all the people you have, are or will be ripping off. No one deserves to get taken the way you have been doing people when you used to have one of the best reputations for quality products there was. There are some people who will file their complaints, buy different TVs and go on with life with anger in their hearts and lighter pocketbooks and bank accounts. Then there are the people like me, the ones whose televisions are such a vital part of their life that it is a medical necessity to help get you from one day to the next.
I'm not throwing a pity party. In fact quite the opposite. I'm tired of dealing with repairmen, parts companies and the constant cost that I just can't afford to keep putting into an obviously malfunction product that just keeps getting worse. I and others like me, have to spend our limited funds on hospitals and medicines. Can a television be classified as a needed medication? Nope, but I bet you didn't think about that when you gladly marketed a product long over due for a recall. I hope all the peoples voices finally fall on priorly deaf ears and you do the right thing and at least replace the problem that is the cause of the TVs going out permanently premature.
It'd be heavenly if you replaced the TVs that you know have multiple problems. I hope you at least consider everything everyone's said and if a lawsuit is filed, I hope to be around to be included in it. Please do the right thing..

I purchased the 73" Mitsubishi Diamond TV when it first came out, and I paid $5,000 for it. The first 3 years I had the TV, it was fine. Then all of the sudden, it started turning off by itself randomly before it finally died. I didn't know what it was so I called the warranty service, they sent an authorized Mitsubishi TV repairman and he had no clue what was wrong with the TV. So, he wrote it off as a loss and suggested that I call the warranty service, and get my check to buy a new replacement TV.
From my understanding, in regards to the warranty, I was supposed to get the amount that I paid for the TV so that I can purchase another one. To my surprise, the warranty company wouldn't even give me $2,500 because of the depreciation of the TV.
Just out of curiosity, I thought I'll risk it and purchase a new bulb. I spent $200 for a new bulb and the TV turned back on. I was really happy until the bulb went out again just a little over a year later. This time, I was going to be smart and shop around for the bulb. I found one online for $89, I was happy to find one at that price. The bulb lasted no more than 3 weeks before it literally made a loud noise and blew-up while I was watching TV.
This time, I wasn't going to risk buying the bulb online again. So I went to Fry's Electronics and purchase the bulb there for $130. When I was there, I found out from the sales rep that there were two types of bulbs for this TV. One that was the "generic" brand and the other was the brand that Mitsubishi had recommended. Yes, the generic brand was cheaper all of them seem to be under $100. I told the sales rep at Fry's Electronic that I want the one that Mitsubishi recommended which was $180 at Fry's, but since they do price matching, I was able to get it for $130.
A couple of months later, I started noticing a couple of white dots and a couple of black dots. Then it just started multiplying, and it seems to be multiplying faster and faster. Now, more than 60% of my TV is covered by these dots. After reading everyone's complaints, it looks like I'll need a new bulb. Seriously, I don't want to spend another $100+ for another bulb for fear that it's only going to last a couple of months before it goes out again, or it started producing dots.
I used to love this TV and would highly recommend it. Now, I will never buy another Mitsubishi TV ever again.

My first dot appeared on December 26, 2011. Now, I have many white spots and hundreds of black spots. Thanks to this forum. I had probably saved a couple of weeks in calls to Mitsubishi.
When I first called them on January 10, 2012, I was armed with enough information to intelligently make my point on the bad DMD chip which needs replacement. Of course, at first, they wanted me to pay for the labor just like everyone else which was $250.00. I was adamant about not paying anything, but of course, they had to bump this issue up to management.
So after nine days of waiting and a few calls in between, we agreed on a payment of $50.00 on my end. I was really not fully satisfied but gave into the $50.00 charge on my end just to resolve this problem. After settling with Mitsubishi, I called the repair shop that will be doing the work; and they assured me that they will be out to my home to fix this problem for $50.00.
I am sure I could have had them pick up the entire cost, but after almost ten days of phone calls, I was done. So I gave in, but if you really hold to your convictions, and are in no rush to have it fixed, just keep calling and demanding it gets fixed for free. I also asked the repair folks if these chips they are installing have been upgraded to last longer than 3 years. They said that they have been corrected?! Thanks and good luck to all of you, Mitsubishi DLP owners.

I didn't think much of it at first, thought it was a possible broadcast issue with a movie we were watching. Today, I noticed another spot. The spots seem to show up when the screen changes frames and then disappear. Concerned, I started doing some research on the Internet for possible causes. I came across numerous reviews about the light engine failing in the television within 2 to 3 years of use. When the light engine begins to fail, you begin to see white and black spots on your TV screen.
I bought this TV for $1800.00 from Circuit City in 2008. The lamp was a little over $100.00 from ****. The whole purpose of buying this TV was to save money. I had it figured, that if I changed a lamp for a $100.00 once every 18 months I'd still be ahead compared to the pricey Plasma and LCD models of the same size. Now, it seems I bought a TV for $1800.00 that will not only need a new lamp occasionally but will undoubtedly need costly repairs every couple of years. I've been very happy with the TV up to this point and I hope Mitsubishi assumes responsibility for a defective light engine. After doing exhausting research on the matter and reading countless consumer complaint reviews about the same problem, I sincerely believe Mitsubishi should recall this specific light engine. It's obvious there's a problem with the light engine if it fails within 3 years. Before this problem occurred, I thought Mitsubishi sold quality products at a reasonable price. Now I'm not so sure.

The Mitsubishi WD-65736 purchased on Dec 8, 2010 began exhibiting white spots several months ago. Now it has about 100 white spots and many black spots too, due to the mirrors on the DLP chip failing and getting stuck in either the open or closed position. I paid $100 to have Mitsubishi's authorized technician to come out and tell me what I already knew. It needs a new DLP chip or a new light engine. Now I am waiting on Mitsubishi Consumer Relations to respond with a resolution. This appears to be a very widespread and common problem with poor quality, defective DLP chips. I bought a Mitsubishi 73" DLP model 73734 in August 2008. I have replaced the bulb 4 times within 3 years. I had an extended warranty that covered all but the cost of one bulb. Due to the bulbs not being readily available, (I assume because of the high demand for them) I had to purchase an off brand bulb at my expense or just go without TV for 4 weeks. It appears that I will have to shell out at least $250 a year for a new bulb from here on out as this seems to be the life span of them. The last bulb was replaced under warranty in August 2011, one day prior to the warranty expiring. Prior to this, I started to notice a couple of small white dots on the left side of the screen. I was told by the technician that a new bulb would remedy the problem as it was probably dust on the bulb. After installation, I did not watch TV for a few days and upon turning it on, realized that there were even more dots, both black and white. Now I have hundreds of dots that make it miserable to watch TV.
When I called the technician to complain about the dots, I was told that my warranty had expired and I would have to contact Mitsubishi for assistance, as it appeared to be the DMD Chip going out. I contacted Mitsubishi and was instructed to call an authorized service center for evaluation and fax the documents to them; more money out of my pocket ($90). Mitsubishi contacted me (after I initiated the call) a few days later and offered to pay $100 towards a $700 repair. What a crock. As if it’s not bad enough that the cost of the bulbs are going to make the TV a bad purchase, but now such a huge expense with a 3-year old TV that will have no guarantee once fixed.
After reading all of the complaints posted here and on many other sites, I regret spending (and will continue to spend) my hard-earned money on such a substandard product. Every one of these TV should be recalled and Mitsubishi should be required to provide a quality replacement product that don't fail just as the warranty runs out. I am waiting on the "higher level" at Mitsubishi to call me as I refused their ridiculous offer of compromise. Buyer beware if considering a Mitsubishi product.

As with many others on this posting, I purchased a 57" WD-57733 1080p DLP HDTV. I purchased this unit on 12/12/07 and it was delivered on 12/14/07. I purchased the unit from Mathis Brothers Furniture in Tulsa, OK along with a 3 year extended warranty. The literature that came with the extended service warranty states "Coverage under this plan is effective immediately upon the expiration of the shortest portion of the manufacturer's original written parts and labor warranty." Within the owner’s guide, it states that both the embedded software and the lens have a one year period of warranty from the original purchase date.
As luck would have it, I got my first white dot or dead pixel as I have seen it called here. I initially tried a new lamp, which obviously did not rectify the situation. So, I researched and saw that it was going to be a $1300 fix. The problem now is that Mathis Brothers is telling me my warranty was for 3 years from date of purchase and not 3 years from the end of the one year manufacturer warranty. I am obviously not happy as this is a 4 year old TV. And a $1300 estimate to fix the problem is leading me to look into purchasing a new TV, as the repair cost is nearly the cost of a larger and newer unit.
My complaint is more geared towards Mathis Brothers, the seller of the unit, and their description of the extended warranty essentially not providing coverage according to the coverage listed within the actual service plan description. I am, however, very dissatisfied with Mitsubishi regarding this defect in a 4 year old television. In my mind, this is unacceptable and I cannot believe they are simply washing their hands off this defect. I will not buy another TV from Mitsubishi and I definitely will not purchase anything from Mathis Brothers Furniture in the future either.

I sent a complaint to Mitsubishi, and they said to get an estimate to repair, then call their 'out of warranty' department. The repairman is coming later this week. This is the first problem with the TV. It even has the original lamp. I have a 65" HD/DLP TV. Like most everyone else I had to replace a bulb early on at my own expense. That was almost 3 1/2 years ago. Since then, I've had pretty good luck with it. But, occasionally I'll get a message across the bottom of the screen that says it's "too hot and the TV will shut off in 1 minute" or something to that effect. It has actually shut off on occasion and I have to let it set for a short period of time before turning it back on.
However, if I see the message in time and cycle the unit on and off it solves the problem. Knock on wood. I have not experienced the issue with the dots appearing on the screen that almost everyone else has been saddled with. Within the last 3 months I have been having an issue that I didn't see in any of the complaints I read herein. One day, out of the blue, the volume on my set mysteriously just increased itself to maximum. The volume bar appeared on the screen and the bar slid from left to right on its own. The set would not respond to the remote control and the volume had to be reduced by hand.
Sometimes it worked the 1st time and others I had to adjust it several times by hand. Since then, it has progressed to the point that not only will the volume control not respond to the remote, but the on/off feature won't either. It's an intermittent problem with no rhyme or reason to when it works and when it doesn't. All other functions on the remote work fine. I've changed the batteries in the remote and contacted my cable company to see if it might be somehow connected to their equipment. They've run online diagnostics to test their equipment and everything on their end is functioning correctly.
Even when the volume/on-off issues occur, I have no problem changing channels or accessing channel guides with the remote. I talked to the sales folks at Best Buy to see if they'd heard of similar predicaments from other customers but they just looked at me and shrugged their shoulders. No help there. Anyone else ever experienced this issue? Resolution?

Later, black dots appeared as well. Now there is over 500 dots. I contacted to where I bought the TV and they will not do anything about it.
After researching the internet and finding out that it is a DMD chip that has gone bad. Countless people have posted and commented on this same exact problem with Mitsubishi TV on several internet sites. Mitsubishi want the customer to pay a services fee before they will schedule an authorized repair to come out an evaluate the problem. Then, the customer has to pay for all cost of labor, repair and parts then prove it to Mitsubishi and than they may pay you back for only the part.
I am not going to go through that hassle for a defective TV that should have lasted longer than it has nor can I afford to pay out-of-pocket expense. Why pay for a repair and part to have the same thing happen again in 2 or 3 years? I have traced this problem through complaints on the internet all the way back to 2008. Mitsubishi are well aware of the problem with their TV's and are unwilling to satisfy their customers. A salesman told me today they have 2 of the same TV left in their store and are trying to get rid of them for a low price. If there is a lawsuit in the future against Mitsubishi, I am a willing victim that will participate. I have all my documents and dates.

We purchased a 57-inch Mitsubishi TV three and a half years ago. We had to replace the bulb about three or four months ago and white dots started appearing about two weeks ago. This is ridiculous. Mitsubishi wants me to take it, get a diagnosis and fax the information. Then, they will see what they can do. That's just a bunch of **. If there is a class action suit, count me in!

I'm a little sick over this. We bought a 65 in. Mitsubishi rear projection TV, model WD-57733 just a little over two years ago. We have been quite happy with this TV. We did have to replace the bulb one year ago but understand that that comes with the "territory." We are a big TV watchers at all. I would say our TV is on well high average.
One month ago, I noticed a white spot appear in the mid to lower right hand portion of the screen only when the TV is turned on. A few days later, a second spot appeared, in the same vicinity. As of yesterday, we are now up to 5 spots. I did a little "Googling" and it looks like this was/is a big problem with Samsung TVs and in fact, Samsung fixed this for free. I didn't find much on Mitsubishi. Any advice? We are of course out of warranty and from what I could find online, this is a very expensive fix. One message board poster said it was $900 in parts + labor. The TV was just a little over $2000.
I find it very hard to believe that the lifespan of this TV is 2 years. I feel that it should last much much longer than that. That is a DLP (Digital Light Processing) projection TV. It is a fairly common fault with DLP TVs. You have a failing DMD (Digital Micromirror Device). It is a largish chip that has more than two million little moving mirrors on it. Some of these mirrors are getting stuck. It is going to get worse as more of the mirrors fail. They would not fix the problem.
Mitsubishi would not do anything but they say if I have it repaired they would maybe help out with the repair. But under a fix income, I do not make very much now. There is no way I can pay for a repair.

I bought a Mitsubishi WD-60737 in 2009. I thought it was a great deal. Within two months, I noticed a white dot, then another and another not long after my bulb went out. So I replaced it. It was good for a couple of months, then the bulb went out again. I replaced that one but two weeks later, that bulb went out. No response from customer service, I got a runaround. Mitsubishi is the worst. If there is a class action lawsuit, count me in.

I have a WD60737 from March 2009. Last month, it started developing white and black spots and a hazy mark around the periphery of the screen. I was wondering what this is, and it seems to be a big time defect on all these TVs that they sold at that time. The DMD chip is a problem where the mirrors seem to be stuck at an on or an off position, and the haze is caused by something in the engine. Their authorized repair tech come in, charged me $86.13 to see the set and gave a quote. I am working with the customer service at this moment, but I am not going to pay a single cent to get this fixed!
Mitsubishi needs to pay for these repairs, that is $1012 as quoted by the repair tech to replace the engine. Mitsubishi should step up to its name and get this fixed without charging the customer, irrespective of the warranty. A TV should not get spoiled in 2 years. I will follow up on this site (and other sites) based on Mitsubishi's response and manner in which they handle the complaints.

It started out with 2 white dots on our screen which was no big deal. However, now it has almost 50 and seems to be multiplying. After reading the reviews on the Mitsubishi DLP High Definition TVs, I am wondering if I got a bad deal! I called consumer affairs and they told me to have a tech come out and diagnose the problem and fax it to them, and they would see what they could do. If this is a known problem and it obviously is, then why don't Mitsubishi just have a recall on these TVs and fix the problem?

I currently own a 3 year old a Mitsubishi 73-inch, 1080P, purchased in January 2008. Six months ago, a small black dot appeared, and now the screen is working on it's fourth spot. After reading these complaints, I am afraid of what I have to look forward to (If I had known this was going to happen, I never would've made the investment of $3,700.00). I was going to call Mitsubishi, but why bother, only to get the response (run around) everyone on this web site has received. I see I am just another victim. My now 3-year-old 55" Mitsubishi DLP television began developing 'white dot syndrome' about three months ago. Repair quotes to repair the TV amount to just under $750 with no guarantee that the new part will hold up for at least 3 more years. That cost is almost half of the original cost of the television. I considered myself a loyal Mitsubishi customer, having big screen TVs bearing their label for over 15 years. My contact with Mitsubishi has convinced me that they are not an honorable company and that they will not even admit that there is a defect.
They just lost one customer, who will now help spread the word about Mitsubishi's failure. There are good competitors out there and that is where I am going this week.

My 65-inch Mitsubishi WD-65733 DLP TV starts showing white dots on the screen. A new dot appears every few days and is getting progressively worst. I called and check up about it and found it its a manufacture fault. Google it! If you have warranty, extend it.
The epidemic seems to happen right after the warranty expires and or after changing the lamp. I have been dealing, arguing over the phone for the past week, trying to get it resolved through the manufacture and it's a nightmare. It sucks because they know its their fault and it has happen to hundreds of people and their has not been any attempt to fix the problem. I have been on the phone back and forth for over two weeks and all day today and still they refuse to fix the problem. This is horrible that they know it's their defective part and yet the company wants to charge its customers for the repair.

I know I am not the only person that Mitsubishi has provided a defective product too. I spent over $2,700 for my television (73" DLP) a little over four (4) years ago. I purchased the television on 12/8/2007 for one white spot to appear on 4/2011 to nearly a thousand white spots to appear today. I've tried to negotiate with their customer service department but they will only paid for the initial service call and for the part (which probably cost them $5). They are refusing to pay for the installation of the part and expect me to pay $195.00.
I am really surprised that Mitsubishi does not back their product. Even if I was to have purchased the extended warranty, it would have well expired. With all the trouble that I've had trying to get Mitsubishi to pay for this defect, I am now having to make this public. I would like to start a class action and have Mitsubishi pay for everyone's television with the similar problem and/or reimburse the poor customers that were unfortunate to have to pay to get their televisions repaired.
If you are interested in a possible class action, please keep your repair bills, the purchase documents and any photographs that you can provide showing the white spots. If we get enough people, I will see if I can get my law office to have a nationwide recall on this manufacturer defect. Good luck with negotiating with Mitsubishi, they don't want to admit to the defect and they could care less about customer loyalty. You can also call Consumer Reports to indicate this problem and they will rank the television's performance. Thanks all.
If you all want to see what a $2,700 television looks like with white spots on the entire screen, I'll send pictures or watch Star Wars or Star Trek.
