I bought my 32 inch flat screen Funai TV on Black Friday for $100 at Walmart in 2013. It worked fine until December 2015. I powered on the TV, the logo flashed across the screen for 1 second, and then came to a black screen. It hasn't worked since. I've been holding on to it, but my chances of getting it fixed are slim to none, so I'm going to trash it. I was shocked to see that so many people had the exact same experience with this brand/product as I did! Has the company helped anyone?

Brought a Funai tv in 2014 on Black Friday from Walmart and just today it died. Red light blinks a couple times and logo comes up and tv goes off. Tried unplugging it and holding the power button for 10 seconds and then plugging it back in and press the power button on the tv and it does the same thing. Now my daughter doesn't have a tv in her room. I have one more like it and I'm wondering is that going to die as well? Seems like these televisions last only 2 years. I wish the company would do something for the customers who trusted their brand. Worst $100 I ever spent.

TV's used to last forever. People only got rid of their black and whites for color even though the black and white still worked. It's a throwaway world now, nothing lasts anymore.

Funai TV - this company is a rip off. I purchased TV back in 2014. It lasted about two years but he will set off by yourself. It seems like every Funai product does exact same thing. Somebody needs to be looking into this company. I called customer service. They told me I had to go an hour and a half out of my way to Portsmouth. Just going there and coming back will probably cost me a new TV.

This was also bought on Black Friday (like all the other people) a couple of 2 years ago. I think the TV has a timer in it like a time bomb - just shut down while watching it and won't turn back on (virus timer to shut down). Called Funai customer service, they told me to take it to a service center (1/2 hour away), told them why would I do that if there is no warranty? Throw away TV. I know NEVER TO BUY ANY OF THEIR PRODUCTS (Magnavox, Emerson, Sanyo). For some odd reason, a lot of people got burned Black Friday at Walmart on this TV - all stop working with the same problem. This is definitely a bad brand to stay away from. This is really unbelievably and may warrant a class action suit. This TV was their replacement for Emerson that was in their ad.

I am dumbfounded as I read countless reviews for the same tv and same year it was manufactured. My tv was bought at the pawn shop. I paid $90 for it, however it worked perfectly for the 3 months that I owned it. But when I attempted to turn it on just now it wouldnt turn on... Just blink for a second or two and then seemingly just goes off. This is definitely a bad brand to stay away from. This is really unbelievably and may warrant a class action suit. Sad!

I had a talk with this so call company, after I submitted a report to them asking them why a LCD tv goes out just as the warranty goes out and all I get was simple step such as turn the tv off, change the channels etc. like I haven't tried that once it happened. So I sent them this. I tried all those steps and a few notes to make on your end. One I work on computers building them etc so the steps you gave are a bit childish. As for the warranty I just said it just expired which shows me you don't read or take the customer seriously, but the thought of a LCD having problems within 2 years of owning it shows poor quality as well. I should have known when I read the customer report on your product. Here are some of your fans you have made.

Also I will look into this timer virus due to the fact that a few just said theirs went out about the same time mine did and the likelihood of a LCD tv going out at almost the same time and right after the warranty goes out raises an eyebrow and makes one think that a scam going on. If there is such a thing on the LCDs then I hope you have a good lawyer because I will have no problems starting a class action lawsuit.

This was also bought on Black Friday (like all the other people) a couple of years ago. I think the TV has a timer virus. (I did not realize that I was leasing the TV when I bought it.) One of those sue happy lawyers needs to file a class action on this one. I doubt that Walmart had a hand in the design of this unit. But what does tick me off about Walmart warranties is, they make you pay for shipping back to company. When they have such a monster fleet, they need to accept THEIR extended warranted items at THEIR STORES.

Purchased this TV at Walmart as a Black Friday special. That was a $100 mistake. The TV will not power on and is only 2 years old. Same issue everyone is having. This TV is in our spare room so it wasn't used all the time. It was advertised as an Emerson in the ad. Walmart used the bait and switch on everyone. Funai, Emerson, Sanyo, Magnavox, and Kodac are all the same company so it appears the Funai is the low end division. I think between Walmart and Funai they should replace this TV that people still have working or not. It's only a matter of time until everyone experiences this issue. I will never buy a TV from Walmart or any of the brands associated with Funai. This is the 2nd TV from Walmart that has turned into a dud of a product. Live and learn.

The same thing happened as others have stated. We turned on the tv, the red light flashed, Funai flashed on then tv shut itself off. We did buy the 2 year warranty which expired 11/28/15. Obviously this is a worthless tv if so many others have the same tv with the same timeline with the same problem. When will we as consumers be protected from scamming retailers and companies?

I unplugged it, plugged it up again, but it never came back on. I did not buy an extended warranty, but looking over the reviews, that would have been worthless, just like the TV. It did not even have the life of a light bulb. My brother got his the same day & after calling him, discovered his went out the week before. I purchased this television on Thanksgiving day 2013 at Walmart during their black Friday sale. There was only 2 left when I got there and the older gentleman manning the TV's told me it was manufactured by Emerson. Trusting Emerson, I bought it for my bedroom. This TV was literally only watched maybe 1 hour over the last 2 years but we mounted it in our new home in the bedroom suite. Within the first day the sound will go out after about 10 minutes until the channel is changed, then changed back.

This TV is junk and I REFUSE to pay more to have it fixed than it cost! I have a 55" TCL Roku in my living room and at Sam's club it was very cheap with excellent ratings, so if it comes down to it I will have a theater room in my bedroom. I'm with whoever said a class action lawsuit should be filed! This TV never, ever was abused, got wet, anything of the sort. Not even dusty! It was a quick money maker and Walmart, unfortunately, endorsed it costing all of us thousands, I am sure.

I have tried all logical measures to reset the TV to no avail. Given the numerous complaints that appear to be the same as this one, by now, there must be some policy in place that honors customer satisfaction. I am looking forward to this ever growing company to be wise enough to make good on this product to improve your credibility. Right now, I have zero confidence in this company and this product. Like all the other complaints that have been posted here, I tried unplugging the unit, etc, to no avail. Two years old and now totally nonfunctional. I bought this television, didn't buy the warranty. Big mistake, TV stopped working - red light on and TV turns on, shows name brand then turns off. The company said, "Take it to the repair shop, 75.00 just to look at it." With all of the people complaining about the same issue you would think this qualifies as a Lemon Law and we should have the set fixed or replaced.

Like I was always told, you get what you pay for. I hope something can be done. I'm a single mom and work too hard for my money to be thrown away on a product that I can't use and may have to send to the big cloud in the sky for recycle. American made is the way to go. I thought this was a product from Samsung, that would explain it. I bought one of their tablets and it stopped working also. Where is RCA, Westinghouse and any of the old reliable companies that will put the customer first and not money? Bad reviews can ruin your business. Thank you for a hard lesson learned. I will not buy another one of these televisions. I will do my homework next time.

I too have been having an issue from this Black Friday TV from Funai. I have personally contacted the company in North America and Japan. They just say "ah so sorry for the inconvenience but you can pay to have this problem fixed." This is not an acceptable answer to me. This product needs a major recall and/or a class action lawsuit needs to be filed against this company. Maybe we Americans need to just boycott all sales from foreign countries and only buy American made products. When I did finally talk to someone with some sense they can only say "I'm sorry." That is a cop out. This company knows what the major issues are with this junk product and they do not want to stand by their product.

I urge all of you that have this product to flood their emails everyday with complaints. They more than likely wont answer them but maybe the flood of email will fault out their servers and they will close their doors. I am very dissatisfied with this company and I say they are a junk company, just like junk cars and junk bonds. They need to be put in the recycle bin and a new and improved company may come out of it. I doubt it though cause once a junk company always a junk company. If you are reading this FUNAI make good on your company code of ethics and replace all of these TV's that the consumers are buying and complaining about.

If you do not want to do this for all of us then you need to flush your company down the toilet because your company is crap. I have had enough of crap products from crap companies, all of us need to band together and stand up to these corporate giants and start making them liable for their crap they push off to us. We all live and learn by our mistakes but I am one person that will not let this issue go. I will contact all my friends, family and the news media to give Funai the worst reputation that I can give. I bought them in March and about the 20th of July I went to turn on my TV and 70% of it was blacked out on the right side and a bright white on the left side. Now ordinarily I would have blamed an inferior product, but I love my daughter's TV and I was going to chalk it up to nobody's perfect. I didn't want any money. I had contacted someone at Funai who then passed me to someone else. That is two long distance calls on my phone bill. I had my 32-inch for about 1 month before problems arose. I, like many, got mine 2013 Black Friday at Walmart. However there are several ways to remedy all the issues I have read. On and off. Volume turning up and down uncontrollably. Source menu scrolling uncontrollably. Google Funai factory reset and follow the instructions. Or unplug the T.V. for several seconds (~30), plug it back in as many times as needed.

Or this is the most favorable one - it will void your warranty (it takes shipping handling plus 1-2 months for a replacement from factory) - remove the stand and the front panel via screws. Then on the bottom of your TV where the button are, remove it from its house via 1 screw. There is a white ribbon connecting this function board. Push the power button and remove the white ribbon cable. Clean the button on the underside with a toothbrush, make sure all debris is off and plug it back in. DO NOT USE liquid. Test the functions and repeat the factory reset if needed

Removing this board will stop the issues as this is what's causing the problem, NOT the screen. Sorry for whoever paid 155$ so you can tune the T.V. to what you wish and disconnect it temporarily for an easy fix. However the method above works best. After it stops going wacky, screw everything back in to avoid dust damage. The function board has an issue of shorting out or cross-connecting when it's not supposed to causing these issues. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

Mom contacted phone number in manual and got FUNAI (Magnavox sold to China - that's outsourcing for ya). Funai told her she needed to provide a receipt. I emailed the Sam's Club confirmation of purchase on 29 Dec 2014, something they needed before a warranty repair could be made. On 5 Jan 2014, Funai told mom that they did have the document. I called and insisted they look harder - they found it! However, the person on the phone said that the date could be edited. Basically, insinuation that I would try to defraud them over a warranty repair.

After pressing for a manager, I was told that an in-home warranty repair would be made and was give a phone number - THAT WAS OUT OF SERVICE! 6 Jan 2014, I called Funai back and told them of my experience so far and was given another repair center number in Fresno. I obtained a manager signature on a Sam's Club print out and have made that available to my mother because Funai said the warranty tech might refuse service without a receipt. I gently tried to steer mom away from Magnavox but she thought it was a good brand, maybe 40 years ago - before everything was outsourced to Asia. If I had checked this site first, I would have seen the almost 300 complaints. Don't buy Magnavox without considering other name brands. Problems with a Black Friday Funai TV deal from Wal-Mart. As the old saying goes: "You get what you paid for. You don't pay much, you don't get much!" But my TV did not even make it a year before it decided to "act a fool!" First the pixelation problem, which I thought was my cable provider's fault. After reading some of their complaints, I am not quite sure who is to blame for that. Next is the problem that it won't turn on. I know that I only paid $98 but come on! This is a tv that is used in a bedroom. I would at least expect 3 years from it. Lesson learned! Wait and save up and buy quality. Not this worthless piece of foolishness.

That one lasted about 2 months when the sound then started going wacky and eventually went out. I sent it back on Sept. and was told another would be shipped out. I spoke to a supervisor that I did not want to wait a month again and he said it would go out as soon as they have confirmation I sent the other back. That didn't happen. They received it on 8/27/2014. Still no response. I called the next day and was told they had received it, but it would be another 20 days before they would send out another TV. I asked why and received the response that it takes that long to ship another out. When asked why would it take 20 days to put a shipping label on a package. They hung up on me. This is utterly ridiculous. I have even talked to supervisors and still no response. DO NOT BUY FUNAI and since it is the same as Emerson and Sylvania, and Magnovox I would be cautious with these to. Stopped working when on off button broke no remote tv. So Funai can make good products. It seems they went uphill now back downhill. Who runs the company? Quality at a good price would be nice. Emerson was a good company as well as Sylvania. But the problem is that companies do not make their own products anymore. They go by the lowest bidder. Phillps/Magnavox same company have done this. To compete Funai has to cut Quality. GE is still Funai I believe but they sold RCA to mainland China and now its Quality has come up. Admiral is owned by china and is now AOC decent. Sylvania tv went out after 6 months. Warranty not worth what I paid. Shipping cost as much as a new tv.

I have read here in many comments that the PC boards or internal power supply units going bad and this causes the television to stop working. I want to add here that it may not be the fault of the manufacture that the television or equipment is going bad. The problem may that the power line coming in to your outlet contains harmful electrical surges which are causing the damage. The front end of the power supply board may contain M.O.V. (metal oxide varistors) which short out when a big enough surge comes across the hot and neutral lines of the power grid. When the M.O.V fails and shorts out then the televisions fails. If you plug your television in without any protection then this might happen. And it won't be the fault of the manufacture.

It's amazing the amount of reviews that I've read in a 20-minute span that has had the exact same issue with the same television we bought. Thousands of televisions have done exactly this: We bought a 40" LCD Emerson TV on November 26, 2011. We didn't start using it until just before Christmas last year. So basically here we are a year later, and the television, all of a sudden, turned off and lost all power. We checked the outlet; this was not the issue. We've left it alone and tried to plug it back in to see if it would reset itself. That was also not the problem.

We called Emerson (Funai). The girl was very matter of fact and quickly told us that it was the power board that died and that we would need to get it fixed. She said that we were still within our warranty time but it would cost 110 dollars for labor. When she looked up our area, there were no authorized dealers to fix it. So she said that they wouldn't be willing to fix it. So basically, we were just out of luck and we had to suck it up and cut our losses.

A television should last more than a year. There is no need of a company making crap and selling it to unsuspecting consumers. They should be ashamed of themselves. I will never in my life, buy anything else that has the Funai name attached to it. I will tell anyone that I come in contact with never to purchase anything from them either. Emerson is now listed as junk in my books.

This has left customers with no other option except to cut their losses. A television should last for more than one year, and manufacturers should take responsibility for defective manufactured products.

I called Funai or Emerson and was told simply that I was out of warranty and that it is the circuit board. The customer service representative sounded as if he was familiar with this problem and was matter of fact about it. He even told me how much it would cost to get the item repaired. This is very wrong, and I will never buy another Emerson again and will advise everyone I know to do the same. I moved the TV to an outlet in another room to try it - still, no power and will not come on. I called Funai Customer Service from the warranty information I got from Walmart on this model LC320EM2F and they told me it would be $70 for them to diagnose, repair and return.

Once I paid the $70, they would send me a box and have the TV picked up and shipped to them. The warranty clearly states that it is a one year warranty; why should I have to pay anything? Walmart will not replace even with my receipt. They said after 90 days it went to the manufacturer's warranty. I do not think it is right for them to charge for an item that is covered by the warranty. I looked at 331 complaints/comments currently logged on this site regarding this same problem!

They said that the product records warranty that I received in the box for the TV and that they had no knowledge of the power-surge coverage "during the manufacturer's warranty period." It is null and void because the manufacturer’s warranty states that the product is not covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Funai Services state they are "very strict" on their warranties and that I could call the warranty department tomorrow and that they will tell me the same thing. Maybe, quality control needs to inspect what warranties they are putting in their boxes. I have wasted my whole day from 4:30 this morning to around 8:30 pm trying to get an answer. "Thank you, Ms., As this is an issue that a customer cannot repair on their own and the unit is more than 4 years old; any servicer may not be able to obtain parts. This type of repair is not one that you just open the unit and screw a blub out and put a new one in. Even in a clean room environment the repair is not always possible. If you choose to contact the BBB I understand, however, since we are acting within the terms of the warranty contract and it would be impossible for you to complete the repair on your own, the claim will not go far. I will simply supply the exact same information to them that I have supplied to you.

Even in 2010, Consumer Reports have not been able to determine an "estimated life expectancy" for an LCD and at the time of your purchase in 2006 it was impossible to determine. Remember that CRT (picture tube) TVs have been in production for over 75 years and it has been determined that a reasonable life expectancy is about 11 years (that is an averaged estimate) per Consumer Reports. Thus far, they have not been able to determine this because LCD TVs have been on the market for consumer entertainment use for less than 10 years and it is constantly changing.

"One of our agents should have been able to advise you of this at the time of your first call. I have already sent an advisement to the call center managers to address this issue in the continuing education classes. Again, we do appreciate your interest in performing repairs on a unit that is out of the Manufacturer's Limited Warranty, however, this is something that is not only not possible for you to complete, but could also be harmful to any customer to try on their own. Thank you Tracie J M., Level 3 Customer Service Representative, Funai Service Corporation, Spiegel Drive, Groveport, Ohio 43125."

I am without a properly working TV and cannot obtain parts to service such. I will never purchase an Emerson product again. Emerson does not stand behind their products or parts and has no concern for the consumer.

I bought two digital convertor boxes. Both burned out within 6 months. The make is Magnavox, but I was told to call the Funai company, and they said the warranty is expired. There's nothing they will do to help me.

These boxes are all the same. It is a rip off, and I can't afford to buy a new TV at this time and won't buy another converter box. So the same thing can happen again. So now, I have no TV service. The government should investigate all these rip offs and do something, since they forced us to get these converter boxes that are just junk.

I called Funai Corporation to discuss a problem with Emerson 32-inch LCD HDTV turning off right after the power button is pressed. It seems to be a very long list of same issue with this specific model/serial/mfg. date of Dec ‘07. Since it is 6 months out of the one-year warranty, they told me I would have to find a repair shop and pay out of pocket. No recall for this exact same problem in nearly every TV with this model/serial/mfg. date. Only authorized dealers in my state are at least 3 hours away.

I paid nearly $600 for this TV less than 18 months ago. Now it is junk. I cannot afford repairs; my husband lost his job 6 months ago and as we were once a hard working family, we are now unable to even find work to pay our mortgage, let alone replace nearly new appliances. My kids won’t have a Christmas this year, and now they have no TV to watch cartoons on. I bought this when we could afford it; now, we can’t afford to pay repairs for Emerson's faulty product. They admit it is faulty, but refuse to remedy the situation. Now I can’t even sell this for groceries; it’s a worthless pile of plastic.

I purchased a Magnavox/Funai converter box late 12/08 and stopped working in 9/09. I am unable to contact L2 support (1-888-290-0871) nor will they return my phone calls. The L1 support (1-800-605-8610) was able to help with troubleshooting and confirmed that the box is no good, but they will not help with return policy. Model #TB110MVV9A, serial #U45809891. Funai produces inferior products and Funai's help desk is useless. I would like a new DTV digital to analog converter box.

I purchased this 32" LCD TV (model # LC320EM82S) about 14 months ago, and last night it blew a fuse. I opened the back of the TV and replaced the fuse with the exact same rated fuse and it blew the new fuse as soon as I plugged it in. I called the customer service number on the rear panel of the TV and they stated that it was not their problem. Also that by opening the TV myself I had voided any warranty. My concern is that this TV should have lasted a lot longer than it did, and due to a faulty design it has not. I have checked the internet and have found page after page of complaints with this particular model failing well before 2 years of use.

After paying about $600 for this TV just over a year ago, it appears I will have to pay the same price or more to buy a replacement TV. Now during these times, hard economic times, families do not have the expendable income they once did to make purchases like this. I believe that the Funai Corporation should be made to take action. My TV was never dropped or exposed to harsh conditions. Consumers purchase large electronics like this with the assumption that they will last for around 5 years, but this particular brand has a track record of dying before it reaches 18 months.

We bought an Emerson TV model LC195EM9 B. December 15, I know it doesn’t have 20 hours on it, and it does not work. We missed the warranty by less than one month according to Wal-Mart. I called Funai Corp., for customer service, and they want me to drive it to a certain tech - closest one to us is around a 130-mile trip - to get it fixed. They will pay for parts since the TV with receipt is covered under one year warranty. How nice that we should have to have expenses on something that is considered new. We are very disappointed with this unit and asked to have our credit card credited, definitely needs a recall on this model.

I purchased this TV (Emerson 32" LCD TV Model # LC320EM8A) from Walmart, cost over $500 on 9/14/07. The TV just stopped working; no power was getting into it. I am an elderly disabled widow living on a very tight tight budget. My niece called the 1-800 number to help me out with this, and William, supervisor with Badge ** from Funai (the warranty and contact info) stated that it has a 90-day full warranty and 1 year on parts.

I am past the warranty period. The TV lasted less than 19 months. Crap out of luck is basically what William told her. After further investigation, I come to find out this model seems to have quite the reputation of being a piece of crap. Now I am stuck with a TV that cost over $500 that did not last even 2 years. Where is the justification in this? Emerson can sell a product and take hands over fists of money from people and not be held responsible for any defects that last past 90 days when obviously there is a huge problem with this model TV.

In February of 2008, I purchased an Emerson 32” LCD TV from Walmart Model #lc320em82. In July of that same year, the TV stopped working. The power would come on for a second and then turn off again. I called Funai, the company that made the TV, and they referred me to a local repair shop. They would only pay for the parts under the warranty because I could not find the receipt for the purchase. I was of course not pleased with having to pay $150.00 to have the TV fixed as it was only 5 months old but agreed anyway. That seemed to do the trick and the TV worked again until this morning when sure enough the thing came on and then turned off a second later. I again called Funai, only this time they informed me that they only give a 90-day warranty for the TV after a repair is made.

I understand that this is no longer under warranty but at what point is it my responsibility to pay for faulty equipment? There is obviously a defect with these TV's and I think that Funai should be held accountable. My last TV lasted for 17 years and this one can't seem to go more than a few months. For those looking to buy an Emerson LCD, I say: buyer beware. I purchased the Television for $650.00 including tax and then paid an additional $150.00 to have it repaired. I am now looking at least to have it professionally repaired again if I want to salvage the TV.

We purchased a 32-inch LCD TV model number LC320SS8 A, serial number J49726156 a little over a year ago, so it is out of warranty. I called Funia/Sylvania. They will not help because it is out of warranty. They do not care; it is 3 weeks out of warranty and the TV will not turn on anymore. I called two service centers. The first one said they will not service Sylvania anymore because the parts are hard to get and Sylvania is difficult to deal with. I called another service center. They said, "Call Sylvania back and try to get them to pay for parts." So I did and Sylvania does not care. The service center also told me that chances are the problem will repeat itself. We are better off buying another TV that is NOT SYLVANIA!

I purchased a Sylvania 15 LCD HDTV for a bedroom dresser in August 2008 at Meijers. The original price was $269.00 and I purchased it for $211.99. On Feb. 11, 2009 (under six months) after watching the TV, I turned it off with the remote and it made a high-pitched squeal that didn't sound right, so I tried turning it back on and it wouldn't come on. The screen looks as if it is trying to come on with faint flashes of light but no picture or sound. It's as if it's dead. The warranty says parts are covered for up to a year and labor is only covered for 3 months. I called Customer Service and explained what happened and I have my receipt. They said to take it to a service center for repair. I called the service center and it will cost $200.00 to repair a TV I paid $200.00 for. I am on disability and can't afford this, so I sent an e-mail to Customer Service and they replied with a number to the warranty dept. I called that number and no one answered. I called back again and no one answered. I found the CEO's number and called it, no one answered. I can't get any help. I just want it fixed (repaired), replaced, or refunded. It's only six months old and should not have anything wrong with it.

Yesterday, Jan. 9th, 2009, I shut it off for about an hour and when I turned it back on, it went on for 2 seconds and says Digital Television on the bottom right corner and just shut off. I started to check around the internet and apparently, multiple people are having this issue and they all have to pay for the repair. I would like to register a complaint. I do not think it is fair for us to pay for repair?!

The TV will no longer turn on and it happened exactly after the 1-year warranty was up. I'm just speculating because I'm sure this could be flawed but there was no option of having an extended warranty nor did Walmart carry the TV in store, only on the website could it be bought which is the same for the newer Emerson/Funai 32-in LCD TV. They won't even repair it when it's out of warranty.
